The Shoe That Got Away
Aired: May 1st, 1949. Jack threatens to fire longtime announcer Don Wilson over a stale introduction, Mary reads a wonderfully absurd letter from her mother about pest control and a mermaid sister, and Dennis Day recounts his fishing trip to Lake Mead — where his big catch turns out to be a waterlogged shoe. It's classic Benny-era banter before the show veers into its Treasure of the Sierra Madre send-up, packed with deadpan asides and the ensemble's easy chemistry.
