- 1:13Speaker 1: Paul Rasconi. Paul was my father in law, and he
- 1:18Speaker 1: passed away last Thursday at the age of eighty three.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I've often said that I won the in law lottery
- 1:25Speaker 1: because Paul and my mother in law, Marge, are incredible people.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Paul was the first member of his family to go
- 1:32Speaker 1: to college, and after graduating with honors, he served in
- 1:35Speaker 1: the army, where he rose to the rank of captain.
- 1:38Speaker 1: After his military service, he had a highly successful career
- 1:41Speaker 1: in finance and traveled all over the world on business
- 1:45Speaker 1: while raising six kids. He was a smart, funny, open
- 1:49Speaker 1: minded and thoughtful man and a huge sports fan. Since
- 1:53Speaker 1: he grew up near Boston, Paul was a big Red
- 1:56Speaker 1: Sox and Patriots guy, but he also adopted my teams
- 2:00Speaker 1: and became New England's biggest Bengals and Bearcats fan. He
- 2:04Speaker 1: also introduced me to one of my all time favorite desserts,
- 2:09Speaker 1: grape nut pudding. He was a great man who lived
- 2:12Speaker 1: a remarkable life, and there has never been a more
- 2:16Speaker 1: supportive father in law. Now, let's get to football and
- 2:21Speaker 1: the radio replays from the bengals nail biting win over
- 2:24Speaker 1: the Seahawks. First and goal from the one, It's a
- 2:27Speaker 1: handoff to Kevin Walker and he goes into the end zone.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker, I beg your pardon. He goes into the
- 2:33Speaker 1: end zone, standing up for the Seattle touchdown. So after
- 2:37Speaker 1: a bye week, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron had a lot
- 2:41Speaker 1: of time to plot out the opening drive and it
- 2:44Speaker 1: was a beauty for Seattle. First and goal from the
- 2:46Speaker 1: eight of Seattle two twenty eight left in the first quarter.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Shotgun snapped to Burrow. He wants to pass. His throat
- 2:54Speaker 1: caught Tyler Boyd lurches into the end zone, touchdown. Ben
- 3:00Speaker 1: goals as the Bengals go seventy five yards on fourteen
- 3:05Speaker 1: plays for an opening touchdown. On first in goal, Burrow
- 3:09Speaker 1: catches the shotgun snap, fakes a handoff to Mixon, bouncing
- 3:12Speaker 1: in the pocket, rolling to his left. Penalty flag down.
- 3:15Speaker 1: He bears a strike caught in the end zone by
- 3:18Speaker 1: andre Yosi Vosh. There's a penalty flag at the four.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It was thrown pretty early. It's holding on Seattle. That
- 3:26Speaker 2: touchdown is gonna stand.
- 3:28Speaker 1: This will be a fifty five yard field goal try,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and if he misses it, the Bengals will start from
- 3:33Speaker 1: their own forty five. Jason Myers is the kicker, The
- 3:36Speaker 1: punter is the holder. The fifty five yard kick on
- 3:40Speaker 1: its way and it is good. Nine to twenty four
- 3:43Speaker 1: left in the third quarter. The Bengals have a fourteen
- 3:46Speaker 1: to ten lead. Gino Smith to throw fires downfield. Mike
- 3:50Speaker 1: Hilton interception at the four yard line. Mike Hilton jumping
- 3:55Speaker 1: in front of Jackson Smith and Jakebob the rookie out
- 3:58Speaker 1: of Ohio State, and the Bengals get it back after
- 4:03Speaker 1: the Burrow interception on a pick by Mike Hilton. Second
- 4:07Speaker 1: down and nine Seahawks, Gino Smith back to throw. He
- 4:11Speaker 1: throws it up the scene and it's intercepting a diving
- 4:14Speaker 1: pick by Cam Taylor Britt. He's running back to the
- 4:17Speaker 1: forty the thirty five when he gets tackled at the
- 4:20Speaker 1: thirty four of Seattle. This will be a fifty two
- 4:24Speaker 1: yard attempt for Evan McPherson. He is sixteen for twenty
- 4:28Speaker 1: in his career from fifty plus remarkable eighty percent. Robbin's
- 4:33Speaker 1: ready to hold. The Bengals trying to push the lead
- 4:35Speaker 1: to four from fifty two yards away. The snap, the
- 4:39Speaker 1: placement to kick, it's on its way.
- 4:41Speaker 3: He is good.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Gino Smith with sharbone in the backfield. Fourth and goal
- 4:48Speaker 1: from the sixth Smith to throw pump face sud at
- 4:52Speaker 1: the fifteen yard line. Sam Hubbard brings down Gino Smith
- 4:58Speaker 1: and the Bengals takeover with two oh three to go.
- 5:02Speaker 2: How about the eh boys on that particular drive. Trey
- 5:05Speaker 2: Henderson with a huge sack. Sam Hubbard with a huge
- 5:09Speaker 2: fourth down sack. That's two red zone drives the Seattle
- 5:14Speaker 2: Seahawks have scored.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Squad Dooche. There are more than sixty five thousand seats
- 5:18Speaker 1: here at Bakhor Stadium right now, none of them are
- 5:21Speaker 1: being used. Fourth and seven from the eight, Gino Smith
- 5:25Speaker 1: back to throw finooking yeads. The ball squirts forward hel
- 5:30Speaker 1: the Bengals fall on it at the eight yard line.
- 5:34Speaker 1: That is coffin nail Bam, bam bam.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You have Sam Hubbard and Hill, Hubbard and Hill, two
- 5:43Speaker 2: more age boys. You get Henderson, Hill Hubbard, all the
- 5:47Speaker 2: age boys making plays pressure in the quarterback down the
- 5:51Speaker 2: stretch of the game.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Bengals fans from coast to coast can breathe a sigh
- 5:56Speaker 1: of relief. The Bengals are back to five and Joe
- 6:01Speaker 1: Burrow gets another week to rest his calf as Cincinnati
- 6:05Speaker 1: beat Seattle today by the final score of seventeen to thirteen.
- 6:11Speaker 1: It wasn't a masterpiece, especially on offense. But this isn't
- 6:15Speaker 1: figure skating. There are no style points. Here's head coach
- 6:19Speaker 1: Zach Taylor.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Texaned Steve Speck yesterday, the Saint X coach, you know,
- 6:22Speaker 4: they had to win on the road, and I said,
- 6:25Speaker 4: a great job. He said, it's better to win ugly
- 6:27Speaker 4: than lose pretty. And I mean that was the first
- 6:29Speaker 4: thing that hit me when I walked off the field
- 6:30Speaker 4: to day was at times it felt ugly, especially on offense.
- 6:34Speaker 4: But again, our defense stepped up and made some big
- 6:36Speaker 4: boys first out a lot.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Of to out there.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Here's a closer look at what the Bengals defense did
- 6:41Speaker 1: in the low red zone in the second half. On
- 6:44Speaker 1: the Seahawks first possession of the third quarter, they got
- 6:46Speaker 1: to the three yard line and didn't score. On their
- 6:49Speaker 1: next drive, they got to the four yard line and
- 6:52Speaker 1: settled for a field goal. Then, trailing by four, on
- 6:56Speaker 1: their final two possessions of the game, the Seahawks got
- 6:59Speaker 1: to the six yard line and didn't score, then got
- 7:01Speaker 1: to the nine yard line and didn't score. That's four
- 7:05Speaker 1: drives where Seattle got inside the ten and scored a
- 7:09Speaker 1: total of three points. One of the defensive heroes was
- 7:13Speaker 1: Cam Taylor Britt on his twenty fourth birthday. He had
- 7:16Speaker 1: an interception and three pass breakups, and I talked to
- 7:20Speaker 1: him after the game. We're in the locker room with
- 7:24Speaker 1: a guy they called juice. Cam Taylor Britt a huge
- 7:27Speaker 1: interception as the Bengals make one big defensive play after
- 7:31Speaker 1: the other, down to stretch to hold on and win.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Tell me about what you guys did in the red
- 7:36Speaker 1: zone in this game, and we just.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Had to hold up. We always realized, you know, yours
- 7:40Speaker 3: no equal points, and I had the opportunity to be
- 7:42Speaker 3: in the red zone, you know, four times. I believe
- 7:44Speaker 3: it ended up with just three points of four. So
- 7:46Speaker 3: you know, we just really harp on that. You know,
- 7:48Speaker 3: we got a you know Stenson so os and you
- 7:50Speaker 3: know standyard ground with it.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And it wasn't just the red zone. It was the
- 7:53Speaker 1: low low red zone. They were like inside the five
- 7:56Speaker 1: or inside the ten four times and six drives in
- 7:58Speaker 1: the second half and got three points. That's amazing.
- 8:01Speaker 3: That's how you hold up, man, it's mingo defense.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Tell me about the interception, because not only did you
- 8:05Speaker 1: come up with a diving peck, but your run back
- 8:08Speaker 1: led to the field.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Man, Uh, it's something that I got early on in
- 8:13Speaker 3: the game. I got the same route, and you know,
- 8:15Speaker 3: once I just see the inside release, I felt the coming.
- 8:17Speaker 3: He doesn't run too many routes, so you know, his
- 8:19Speaker 3: roupture is very limited. So once he went out inside,
- 8:22Speaker 3: I already knew what was coming, and I just literally
- 8:24Speaker 3: you could see on a film. I just ran underneath
- 8:26Speaker 3: it and yeah, the ball was coming.
- 8:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Two weeks, two picks and what not.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yeah, we gotta keep it going. I feel good.
- 8:33Speaker 1: How about being three and three after an on and
- 8:36Speaker 1: two start and now going into the by with kind
- 8:38Speaker 1: of a fresh start and a five hundred record.
- 8:40Speaker 3: It's about zero zero I look at it. I think
- 8:42Speaker 3: that's how a lot of guys look at it, Like
- 8:44Speaker 3: you said, a fresh start. You know, we got to
- 8:46Speaker 3: come back after the by, you know, and just keep
- 8:48Speaker 3: our foot on. You know a lot of people's next
- 8:49Speaker 3: because it's not gonna be easy, as.
- 8:51Speaker 7: We can see today.
- 8:52Speaker 3: And we got to forty nine's coming up, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 3: right after the bar.
- 8:54Speaker 1: There were so many plays in the low red zone
- 8:56Speaker 1: where they got to Geno Smith as you're covering in
- 9:00Speaker 1: those situations, do you hear a roar and realize they
- 9:03Speaker 1: got to the quarterback?
- 9:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's crazy. I was actually guarding d K on
- 9:07Speaker 3: one of them, think a back line route, and they
- 9:09Speaker 3: actually threw the balls to move. But the ball was
- 9:11Speaker 3: altered because I think Sam Ritrade got back there. But
- 9:14Speaker 3: I knew the ball got altered because I heard the crowd.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Bad because I heard the crowd, So I look it
- 9:19Speaker 3: and the ball was coming out. Oh all right, So
- 9:21Speaker 3: you know it does give me a little tips in
- 9:23Speaker 3: there and there I hear ball calls all the time. Man,
- 9:25Speaker 3: maybe snapped ahead or.
- 9:26Speaker 1: A lot of guys were waving their arms to get
- 9:28Speaker 1: the crowd to make a lot of noise. Did that
- 9:29Speaker 1: make a difference in the red zone?
- 9:31Speaker 8: Man?
- 9:31Speaker 3: It was huge today. Man, I can honestly say I
- 9:33Speaker 3: couldn't hear a thing. I believe that's great. You know,
- 9:36Speaker 3: I was just going to line up, give me a
- 9:38Speaker 3: signal and I got to play. Communications was real hard
- 9:41Speaker 3: out there towards the end of the game. But you
- 9:42Speaker 3: know that's why, you know, that's where the standing man.
- 9:44Speaker 3: We live for those.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Moments brat twying to win and enjoy the bye.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you, The.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Bengals finished with four sacks and thirteen quarterback hits. Sam
- 9:54Speaker 1: Hubbard had one of the sacks and five of the
- 9:57Speaker 1: hits on Geno Smith. Here's Sam Dave Lapham.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Five trips in the red zone three times, they scored
- 10:06Speaker 2: no points. You guys had an interception in the red zone.
- 10:09Speaker 2: You stopped them on downs twice in the red zone,
- 10:12Speaker 2: they kicked the field goal, scored a touchdown. Five red
- 10:15Speaker 2: zone possessions ten points.
- 10:17Speaker 8: It's gonna win you a lot of football games. We
- 10:20Speaker 8: did it this week. We got a big challenge after
- 10:22Speaker 8: the buy. We're gonna enjoy this one for twenty four
- 10:24Speaker 8: hours and look forward to getting our bodies righty for
- 10:26Speaker 8: San Francisco.
- 10:28Speaker 2: So this offense, what was the what was the key
- 10:32Speaker 2: to shutting this offense down? What do you have to
- 10:34Speaker 2: do to take this this offense out of their game.
- 10:36Speaker 8: You gotta be physical, we gotta be gaps sound. Their
- 10:39Speaker 8: run game is an incredible you know, really great weapons
- 10:43Speaker 8: on the outside. We had to play our best defense
- 10:46Speaker 8: tackling wise, fundamental wise, and get some turnovers and we
- 10:50Speaker 8: did that today.
- 10:51Speaker 2: You guys played complimentary football when the when the offense
- 10:55Speaker 2: had to step up their first two possessions they did score.
- 10:59Speaker 2: You you back the offense up when it needed you,
- 11:02Speaker 2: defense the offense back to defense up when you guys
- 11:04Speaker 2: needed them.
- 11:05Speaker 7: It was a good sign.
- 11:06Speaker 2: See complementary football like that today. Yeah, definitely.
- 11:09Speaker 8: We know there's gonna be a time where we're not
- 11:11Speaker 8: playing our best and the offense is gonna pick us up.
- 11:13Speaker 8: And that's the beauty of being on a good team
- 11:15Speaker 8: with good players and good people that want to play
- 11:17Speaker 8: for each other. And it's fun being out there with
- 11:19Speaker 8: those guys.
- 11:20Speaker 2: How big is it, Sam to get a win like
- 11:22Speaker 2: this and to go into the buy we like you
- 11:24Speaker 2: talked about now you're three and three. You climb back
- 11:26Speaker 2: out of the little bit of a hole. You three
- 11:28Speaker 2: and three getting into that buy.
- 11:30Speaker 3: It's huge, man, That's what we need.
- 11:31Speaker 8: That's what we talked about, and I'm happy we got
- 11:33Speaker 8: it done.
- 11:34Speaker 1: A lot of.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Football left, no question, a lot of football left you.
- 11:38Speaker 2: You got a lot of football in you. Congratulations on
- 11:40Speaker 2: a big game, man, Thank you well.
- 11:42Speaker 1: The defense was stellar. The offense was a bit of
- 11:45Speaker 1: a head scratcher. The Bengals opened the game with two
- 11:48Speaker 1: long touchdown drives, then really didn't do anything on their
- 11:52Speaker 1: final eight possessions, not including a one snap kneel down
- 11:56Speaker 1: at the end of the game. The Bengals had ten
- 11:58Speaker 1: first downs on their first two drives, and at one
- 12:01Speaker 1: point Joe Burrow completed fifteen straight passes. But if not
- 12:06Speaker 1: for Cam Taylor, BRIT's third quarter interception had a twenty
- 12:09Speaker 1: four yard runback that gave Cincinnati the ball in Seattle territory,
- 12:13Speaker 1: the Bengals didn't cross the fifty yard line the rest
- 12:17Speaker 1: of the day. Here's center Ted Carris with lap.
- 12:22Speaker 6: Defense won the football game today. Let's let's give a
- 12:24Speaker 6: lot of shout out to them. The story going into
- 12:26Speaker 6: bye week should be our defense is elite, like they've
- 12:29Speaker 6: been for a long time.
- 12:31Speaker 7: Won the game for us today.
- 12:33Speaker 6: I thought we did some good stuff in the first half,
- 12:35Speaker 6: didn't really get much.
- 12:36Speaker 7: Going in the second.
- 12:37Speaker 6: But you know, that's a good football team, that's a
- 12:40Speaker 6: playoff football team coming into town. Really really grateful to
- 12:44Speaker 6: even up our record going into a week off. Kudos
- 12:48Speaker 6: to the d I mean, as much as I'll say
- 12:51Speaker 6: that as much as I can.
- 12:52Speaker 7: This week, that was unbelievable performance by them.
- 12:54Speaker 6: I mean, there are backs against the wall on the
- 12:56Speaker 6: ten yard line three times in a row.
- 12:58Speaker 7: To win the game.
- 12:59Speaker 6: So three drives in a row really to win the game,
- 13:01Speaker 6: So that's unbelievable. We want to be able to do
- 13:04Speaker 6: a little bit more for him.
- 13:06Speaker 7: Situational run game poor on us. I thought we did
- 13:12Speaker 7: a good job protecting though.
- 13:13Speaker 6: I thought we had a pretty solid day against a
- 13:16Speaker 6: really really good front.
- 13:18Speaker 7: I mean that's a good group over there.
- 13:19Speaker 6: That's a Pete Carroll defense with the Hall of Fame
- 13:21Speaker 6: Mike linebacker.
- 13:22Speaker 7: So you know, glad we did enough to win. Still,
- 13:26Speaker 7: some things that work on.
- 13:27Speaker 6: We're going to take a good look at ourselves this week,
- 13:29Speaker 6: get some rest, get ready to go to San fran
- 13:33Speaker 6: which is gonna be a big one.
- 13:34Speaker 2: So the first two possessions go exceedingly well, and then
- 13:38Speaker 2: did they do anything different? Did they make any halftime
- 13:41Speaker 2: adjustments that were extraordinaries? Was it just not quite just
- 13:45Speaker 2: to tick off execution wise to the offense?
- 13:47Speaker 7: What was the deal they already think that. I'm sure
- 13:49Speaker 7: they made some adjustments.
- 13:50Speaker 6: I mean that's also Hall of Fame coach over there.
- 13:53Speaker 7: I think probably the main thing. I'll look at the film.
- 13:55Speaker 6: They probably went for more of a too high shell
- 13:57Speaker 6: to play in, you know, middlefield clubs blitzing a little
- 14:01Speaker 6: bit more. They butzed Bobby quite a bit. But overall
- 14:06Speaker 6: solid performance. I mean, left some things on there on offense,
- 14:10Speaker 6: and you know we're gonna continue to improve, But kudos
- 14:13Speaker 6: to the defense.
- 14:14Speaker 7: Unbelievable performance. Really proud of these guys.
- 14:17Speaker 6: Really, what a relief to get a win, even up
- 14:19Speaker 6: our record to five hundred going into a week off,
- 14:22Speaker 6: no question.
- 14:22Speaker 2: What does it mean to go into the buy at
- 14:24Speaker 2: five hundred.
- 14:25Speaker 6: It means I can go to my dad's game a
- 14:27Speaker 6: little bit happier.
- 14:28Speaker 7: Yeah, enjoyed the bye week. Thank you go Knights.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Ted's dad as the head coach at Marion University, an
- 14:35Speaker 1: NAIA school in Indianapolis. The Knights are six and oh
- 14:40Speaker 1: this year. Cam Taylor Britt was not the only Bengal
- 14:43Speaker 1: to have a memorable birthday. Andre Yosi Vash also turned
- 14:48Speaker 1: twenty four on Sunday and scored the bengals second touchdown
- 14:51Speaker 1: on a three yard pass from Joe Burrow. After Andre
- 14:54Speaker 1: got off the phone with Peter King for Peter's Football
- 14:58Speaker 1: Morning in America column. In a few minutes with the
- 15:01Speaker 1: rookie from Princeton, andre Yosi Vash caught his first NFL
- 15:06Speaker 1: touchdown pass at least in the regular season. I remember
- 15:08Speaker 1: when you caught one in the preseason. He said, this
- 15:10Speaker 1: one doesn't count till it's regular season. How did that
- 15:13Speaker 1: feel today?
- 15:13Speaker 9: Yeah, it felt awesome. You know, at first, I didn't
- 15:15Speaker 9: know if it was going to stand or not because
- 15:17Speaker 9: they threw a flag, but you know, they they said
- 15:20Speaker 9: it was a touchdown, and I almost I mean I
- 15:22Speaker 9: started to tear a little tear up a little bit
- 15:23Speaker 9: once I once I started, after I was done dazzing
- 15:25Speaker 9: with teeth.
- 15:27Speaker 7: But it was It was a great time.
- 15:28Speaker 1: You know.
- 15:28Speaker 5: It was a scramble drill.
- 15:29Speaker 9: You know, you're working that a lot, especially you know
- 15:30Speaker 9: Joe Burrow, he can extend plays a bunch, so he's
- 15:33Speaker 9: always gotta be ready. And he was actually nice enough
- 15:35Speaker 9: to get me the ball after, you know, because I
- 15:37Speaker 9: completely forgot about it. But you know, that's the kind
- 15:39Speaker 9: of guy. He is, super thoughtful, So I was just
- 15:40Speaker 9: really appreciative of set.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, he made a mad dash into the end zone
- 15:44Speaker 1: to make sure that that ball was recovered.
- 15:45Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, he did. And then I honestly completely forgot
- 15:48Speaker 9: about it, and then he came up to me with
- 15:50Speaker 9: the ball, and so it just shows, you know, how
- 15:52Speaker 9: how thoughtful he is.
- 15:53Speaker 1: So, as you mentioned, he extended the play from your perspective,
- 15:57Speaker 1: When do you realize, all right, he's buying time. I
- 16:00Speaker 1: got to do something to get over Yeah.
- 16:01Speaker 7: I mean, you look at him.
- 16:03Speaker 9: You know my route took a little bit longer than
- 16:04Speaker 9: it would have taken in the first place, so I
- 16:06Speaker 9: already knew that there's a possibility of being a scrambled
- 16:08Speaker 9: I look at him and he's already out of the pocket.
- 16:10Speaker 9: So I tried to just find a hole. And you know,
- 16:13Speaker 9: at that point you're just kind of you're just looking
- 16:14Speaker 9: to see where something's open, and you know, lucky enough,
- 16:17Speaker 9: you just put it right on me and I was
- 16:18Speaker 9: able to score.
- 16:19Speaker 1: He wasn't able to do that much in the first
- 16:20Speaker 1: four games because of his calf. We've seen a lot
- 16:22Speaker 1: of it now in the last two weeks. Yeah. How
- 16:24Speaker 1: important is that specifically in the red zone.
- 16:27Speaker 9: Yeah, it's super important because you know there's such a
- 16:29Speaker 9: short field to work with, especially when you're in the
- 16:31Speaker 9: red zone that you know sometimes plays need to be extended.
- 16:33Speaker 9: You know, you need the extra factor for it to
- 16:36Speaker 9: work because you're so confined. So it brings a different
- 16:39Speaker 9: dimension to.
- 16:39Speaker 5: The offense for sure.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Let's talk about the defense for a moment. Four times
- 16:43Speaker 1: in the second half Seattle had it in the low
- 16:45Speaker 1: red zone and got one field goal. As you're watching that,
- 16:48Speaker 1: how nerve racking?
- 16:49Speaker 7: Is it?
- 16:49Speaker 1: What's going through your mind?
- 16:50Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean it's I get nervous a little bit,
- 16:54Speaker 9: But there's something about that defense that you know they're
- 16:56Speaker 9: going to pull something out, you know what I mean,
- 16:57Speaker 9: Like you always know they're all dogs in that defense,
- 16:59Speaker 9: all ready to make a play. And so yeah, I'm nervous,
- 17:03Speaker 9: but I'm also confident at the same time. So it's
- 17:05Speaker 9: like a weird feeling that I don't want to know
- 17:07Speaker 9: how to explain.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Yeah, the crowd was into it. The place was rocking.
- 17:11Speaker 1: It was pretty remarkable when the defense kept making stop
- 17:14Speaker 1: after stunt.
- 17:14Speaker 7: I mean it was incredible.
- 17:15Speaker 9: I mean, you know, they put us on their back,
- 17:18Speaker 9: and it's just nice to see that we have the
- 17:20Speaker 9: defense to rely on, especially if you know the offense
- 17:23Speaker 9: is down or something else happens. And I love those
- 17:25Speaker 9: guys you're making all those plays.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Congrats on the TD, Glad you got the ball. Congrats
- 17:30Speaker 1: on the win as well. Thank you, appreciate the Bengals
- 17:33Speaker 1: Booth podcast is brought to you by pay Corps, Proud

- 17:50Speaker 1: is the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. With Sunday's win,
- 17:54Speaker 1: the Bengals kept pace in the AFC North with Baltimore
- 17:58Speaker 1: and Cleveland. The Ravens are alone in first place at
- 18:01Speaker 1: four and two after beating the Titans in London twenty
- 18:05Speaker 1: four to sixteen. Justin Tucker kicked six field goals in
- 18:08Speaker 1: the win. And speaking of field goals, the Browns didn't
- 18:12Speaker 1: have quarterback Deshaun Watson on Sunday and yet went toe
- 18:16Speaker 1: to toe with the five and oh forty nine Ers.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Cleveland led by two with nine seconds to go when
- 18:21Speaker 1: San Francisco rookie Jake Moody took the field to attempt
- 18:25Speaker 1: a forty one yard field goal. Here's Niner's radio voice,
- 18:29Speaker 1: Greg Papa. Here we go. If he makes the kick,
- 18:32Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers win. They're six and oh. If
- 18:34Speaker 1: he misses the kick, the forty nine Ers lose. It's
- 18:38Speaker 1: that simple snap hoo. Jake has it away, he has
- 18:42Speaker 1: the distance and it is no good. Jake Moody missed
- 18:48Speaker 1: the kick and the forty nine Ers lose. Just push
- 18:51Speaker 1: it out to the right in the whole way. Wow. Wow. Indeed,
- 19:00Speaker 1: Cleveland ended San Francisco's fifteen game regular season winning streak.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And that's not all. Deebo Samuel left the game of
- 19:07Speaker 1: the shoulder injury and Christian McCaffrey exited with an open
- 19:10Speaker 1: leaque injury. Their schedule to get tested on Monday. The
- 19:14Speaker 1: forty nine Ers faced the Vikings next week before hosting
- 19:17Speaker 1: the Bengals in two weeks. Cleveland improved a three and
- 19:21Speaker 1: two and pulled even with the Steelers, who had a
- 19:23Speaker 1: bye this week. The Bengals are a game behind Baltimore
- 19:27Speaker 1: and a half game behind Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Now time
- 19:31Speaker 1: for the radio guys recap lap. This game featured one
- 19:36Speaker 1: of the great red zone defensive performances I've ever seen
- 19:39Speaker 1: in my life. Seattle had the ball six times in
- 19:42Speaker 1: the second half. On four of those drives they were
- 19:45Speaker 1: inside the ten. They got three points.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Amazing, I mean five red zone possessions on the day,
- 19:52Speaker 2: they get ten points out of a total two points
- 19:54Speaker 2: per red zone possession. The low red zone defense was phenomenal.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Think of all the snaps. I mean, they had to
- 20:02Speaker 2: have fifteen snaps in the low red zone easily, and
- 20:05Speaker 2: they didn't give up any points. I mean it was
- 20:07Speaker 2: they did get a touchdown on their first red zone drive,
- 20:09Speaker 2: but then interception, then they settle for field goal and
- 20:12Speaker 2: then two back to back possessions where they lose the
- 20:15Speaker 2: ball on downs. Three of their five possessions they get
- 20:19Speaker 2: no points. That's just mind boggling to do it in a
- 20:24Speaker 2: game like that. It was a low scoring defensive struggle.
- 20:29Speaker 2: The Bengals did score two touchdowns in their two red
- 20:31Speaker 2: zone possessions to start the football game. The game was
- 20:35Speaker 2: one in the red zone, There's no doubt about it,
- 20:38Speaker 2: and particularly in the low red zone.
- 20:39Speaker 1: And to me, it's always interesting to see, you every
- 20:43Speaker 1: red zone drive is a little bit different. A lot
- 20:45Speaker 1: of these. It was like first in goal at the
- 20:47Speaker 1: five or the four, and whether it's a penalty or
- 20:50Speaker 1: a sack or something, Seattle would get driven back and
- 20:53Speaker 1: then the defense would come through when they had to.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and when you look at it, I mean, Gino Smith,
- 20:58Speaker 2: it seemed like he was holding the ball forever and
- 21:01Speaker 2: the coverage never broke down. You know, he could never
- 21:03Speaker 2: find any place to put the football in. You know,
- 21:05Speaker 2: that kind of coverage will lead to quarterback sacks. Sometimes
- 21:08Speaker 2: the pressure led to big plays on the other end defensively,
- 21:11Speaker 2: when he put the ball in spots where he normally
- 21:14Speaker 2: doesn't do it. He does normally keep the ball out
- 21:16Speaker 2: of harm's way. He had some issues in that regard
- 21:20Speaker 2: a little bit today, but it was amazing how well
- 21:24Speaker 2: they played defensively, and lou Anrumo was mixing it up,
- 21:27Speaker 2: you know, on the back end with his coverages and
- 21:29Speaker 2: his blitz packages and his combinations and everything that goes
- 21:33Speaker 2: along with it. And I think he had Gino Smith
- 21:35Speaker 2: thinking too much. I mean Gino this year watching tape
- 21:38Speaker 2: on him, he seems to get off of a bad
- 21:41Speaker 2: potential read right away. He wasn't getting off of it
- 21:45Speaker 2: as quickly, and when he went to something else was
- 21:47Speaker 2: just as bad. I mean, he was having problems figuring
- 21:50Speaker 2: out what the hell to do with the football.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Sam Hubbard has been a great two way defensive end
- 21:54Speaker 1: throughout his NFL career, not thought of around the league
- 21:58Speaker 1: as a tremendous pass rusher. But he was today five
- 22:00Speaker 1: quarterback hits and a keysack.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Incredible, and really you gotta tip your cap to him.
- 22:07Speaker 2: I mean, he is a guy we've talked about his motor.
- 22:09Speaker 2: It's NonStop. He's an overdrive. He doesn't put it in drive.
- 22:13Speaker 2: He puts an over drive and keeps it there. He's
- 22:15Speaker 2: a you know, unbelievably well conditioned athlete. His body's his temple,
- 22:21Speaker 2: there's no doubt about that. And for him to do
- 22:23Speaker 2: a lot of the things that he does, I mean,
- 22:27Speaker 2: lou Anarumo will use him as a chess piece, drop
- 22:30Speaker 2: him into coverage, He'll use him as a spy on
- 22:33Speaker 2: mobile quarterbacks at the linebacker position. I mean, there's not
- 22:36Speaker 2: very much that Sam Hubbard can't do. And he's a
- 22:40Speaker 2: guy that teammates know, no matter what, he's going to
- 22:44Speaker 2: be there and he's going to be there doing the
- 22:46Speaker 2: right thing where he's supposed to be, when he's supposed
- 22:48Speaker 2: to be there, doing exactly what he's supposed to do.
- 22:51Speaker 2: And his teammates can just check all those boxes and
- 22:53Speaker 2: they don't have to worry about Sam Hubbard ninety four
- 22:55Speaker 2: is getting it.
- 22:56Speaker 1: So the Bengals first two possessions were great thirteen plays
- 23:00Speaker 1: sixty nine yards touchdown, seven plays seventy three yards touchdown,
- 23:04Speaker 1: and then the offense was anemic after that. I don't
- 23:08Speaker 1: think they had more than one first drive in any
- 23:10Speaker 1: possession after that.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Yeah, first downs were hard to come by, there's no
- 23:15Speaker 2: question about it. And asking guys in the locker room,
- 23:19Speaker 2: did they make adjustments or was it just inefficiency in
- 23:24Speaker 2: terms of execution offensively, you know, or just to tick off?
- 23:27Speaker 2: And I guess probably what I derived from answers given
- 23:32Speaker 2: kind of a combination of both, you know, was they did.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Seattle definitely started muddy in the middle of the field
- 23:39Speaker 2: a little bit more than they had been, it sounds like,
- 23:42Speaker 2: and you know, maybe didn't give as much ground in
- 23:46Speaker 2: that in that middle of the field as they as
- 23:48Speaker 2: they had been. But you know, that's a that's a
- 23:51Speaker 2: playoff caliber football team, there's no question about that. And
- 23:55Speaker 2: you know that that's a big win. I mean, that's
- 23:58Speaker 2: that's a good victory to get to be the Seattle
- 24:00Speaker 2: Seahawks under any conditions and circumstances.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Three and oh against the NFC West and three against
- 24:06Speaker 1: everybody else.
- 24:07Speaker 7: That's crazy.
- 24:08Speaker 5: Isn't it.
- 24:09Speaker 2: It's absolutely nuts. The winds. The winds all count. But man,
- 24:13Speaker 2: it'd be nice to get one against the AFC because
- 24:16Speaker 2: you know, tie breakers and all that sort of thing.
- 24:18Speaker 2: That's uh, that's who we're looking at. The next game
- 24:20Speaker 2: is the final component of the of the NFC West.
- 24:23Speaker 2: You get four of them in a five week span.
- 24:26Speaker 2: It seems like it's crazy. But and Cleveland proved that
- 24:30Speaker 2: they're mortal, you know, I mean, they're there now. They
- 24:33Speaker 2: played up in Cleveland and Bengals have to travel to
- 24:35Speaker 2: San Francisco. And we know that playing here was definitely
- 24:41Speaker 2: beneficial for the defense in the red zone and low
- 24:43Speaker 2: red zone. The crowd was into it. It's tougher to
- 24:46Speaker 2: execute on the road. Uh, communication becomes an issue, all
- 24:50Speaker 2: those things. You just don't feel as comfortable and as crisp,
- 24:53Speaker 2: you know, when you're when you're dealing with all of
- 24:55Speaker 2: those variables and all those things. And I think it
- 24:57Speaker 2: showed up today.
- 24:58Speaker 1: So at one point during the today, they put up
- 25:00Speaker 1: on the video board the mile per hour that the
- 25:04Speaker 1: fastest players had run during the course of the game.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Whoever had been time fastest on the GPS. Joe Burrow
- 25:10Speaker 1: is up there for one of his scrambles, he ran
- 25:12Speaker 1: nineteen miles an hour. I think we have definitive proof
- 25:16Speaker 1: that the CAF is in pretty good shape now. With
- 25:18Speaker 1: an extra a week to rest.
- 25:19Speaker 2: No question, and two weeks before he has to play
- 25:22Speaker 2: another game. You know, it's like he'll get a lot
- 25:25Speaker 2: of rest this week and then have the weekend off
- 25:28Speaker 2: and then you know, get into a normal practice again,
- 25:32Speaker 2: practice habits, and I don't anticipate him having any issues
- 25:36Speaker 2: during practice, and then you know, go out to San
- 25:39Speaker 2: Francisco and try to whip up on the forty nine ers. Man,
- 25:43Speaker 2: do I ever hope we beat the forty nine ers?
- 25:46Speaker 1: Got some bad memories about that team.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Oh Man, I can't stand those uniforms. I don't know
- 25:51Speaker 2: if I vomit in the in the in the booth,
- 25:55Speaker 2: it has don't take it personally.
- 25:57Speaker 1: It's just all about San Francisco. I'll bring a bucket
- 26:00Speaker 1: just to be safe. Good radio show karma continues. Cam
- 26:04Speaker 1: Taylor Brettline joined us last Wednesday night on our Game
- 26:07Speaker 1: Plan show and had a huge interception and twenty three
- 26:10Speaker 1: yard run back to set up Cincinnati's only points in
- 26:13Speaker 1: the second half.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Exactly, I mean that field goal was him. The offense
- 26:17Speaker 2: didn't move in an inch. And when you can get
- 26:21Speaker 2: return yards like that, I mean the three interceptions that
- 26:25Speaker 2: Seattle had coming into this football game, they had one
- 26:27Speaker 2: hundred and fifty plus return yards. Two of them were
- 26:30Speaker 2: for touchdowns, another one was over twenty yards. So I
- 26:33Speaker 2: mean they're scoring points. The offense didn't have to worry.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Then you're giving up you're generating first downs. The offense
- 26:38Speaker 2: didn't have to worry about in terms of hitting yards
- 26:41Speaker 2: and Cam Taylor Britt did the same thing for this
- 26:44Speaker 2: offense when it was struggling to do anything, and it
- 26:49Speaker 2: turned out to be a big, big factor in the
- 26:50Speaker 2: football game, scoring those points.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Two straight, three out of four. Bring on the forty
- 26:56Speaker 1: nine ers in two weeks.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Bring on the forty nine ers. Rest, relax, recuperate all
- 27:01Speaker 2: those ours, and go out and rip the forty nine ers.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Butts Lapp, of course, played in the bengals first Super
- 27:08Speaker 1: Bowl loss to San Francisco and was in the broadcast
- 27:11Speaker 1: booth for the second. The Bengals did come away with
- 27:14Speaker 1: a win the last time they played in San Francisco.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Now time for this week's fun fact segment, where you
- 27:22Speaker 1: get to know the person under the pads. Time for
- 27:27Speaker 1: some fun facts with cornerback DJ Turner. After your first
- 27:30Speaker 1: practice in Cincinnati, we discussed your real first name, Juan Drego.
- 27:35Speaker 1: You are Jan Drego the second, and you said, at
- 27:38Speaker 1: some point here in Cincinnati, everybody will call me by
- 27:42Speaker 1: some version of that. So what are your teammates and
- 27:45Speaker 1: coaches calling you?
- 27:47Speaker 5: I've gone Drego the most time. More announce Drego, cob,
- 27:51Speaker 5: people call me one. Come, people call me Juan Drego,
- 27:56Speaker 5: uh Drejo'drand called me dragon. I've gotten a lot of
- 28:01Speaker 5: different versions of this already. I already knew it what happened, though.
- 28:06Speaker 1: So if you have a son someday, will he be
- 28:08Speaker 1: one Drago the third?
- 28:09Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the plan. That's a good plan.
- 28:12Speaker 1: We're visiting the DJ Turner. You were the Bengals second
- 28:14Speaker 1: round draft pick this year. Miles Murphy was the first,
- 28:17Speaker 1: and in one of the great coincidences of all time,
- 28:20Speaker 1: your dad was childhood friends with Miles' mom. He attended
- 28:24Speaker 1: her wedding. They've remained friends over the years. How often
- 28:27Speaker 1: did you two guys see each other growing up?
- 28:30Speaker 5: We saw each other once in a while, but you know,
- 28:32Speaker 5: we both were so busy with football and re crud
- 28:34Speaker 5: and stuff like that, so you know, we'll see each
- 28:36Speaker 5: other once in a while, we played against each other
- 28:38Speaker 5: something like that, So it was it was mainly more
- 28:40Speaker 5: like football events, so stuff, you know, in that type
- 28:43Speaker 5: of environment.
- 28:44Speaker 1: So I think many people have heard of the name
- 28:46Speaker 1: Rape Buchanan, former Pro Bowl cornerback, had a twelve year
- 28:50Speaker 1: NFL career. You started working with him at an early age.
- 28:54Speaker 1: How did that come about?
- 28:55Speaker 5: I forgot how it came about, but yeah, I started
- 28:57Speaker 5: working with him basically my freshman and sophomore your definit
- 29:01Speaker 5: sophomore year of high school. And yeah, I forgot exactly
- 29:06Speaker 5: how it came out, but yeah, I went to him,
- 29:08Speaker 5: and yeah, I'm going him basically ever since.
- 29:10Speaker 1: It's pretty advanced training for a young kid who aspires
- 29:14Speaker 1: to be a cornerback.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I definitely installed a lot of stuff earlier
- 29:18Speaker 5: into me.
- 29:19Speaker 1: How did you gravitate to defense as opposed to trying
- 29:21Speaker 1: to score touchdowns with your athletic ability.
- 29:24Speaker 5: I didn't want to depend on the quarterback, Yes, it's
- 29:27Speaker 5: really all. That's really all I came down. So I
- 29:30Speaker 5: didn't want to depend on the quarterback.
- 29:31Speaker 1: So yeah, when you catch their passes. Now you can
- 29:34Speaker 1: turn them into pick sixes.
- 29:35Speaker 5: Yeah, ex actually that's how you know, That's how I
- 29:37Speaker 5: looked at it.
- 29:38Speaker 1: We're chatting with DJ Turner. In your senior year of
- 29:41Speaker 1: high school, you elected to attend the IMG Academy, which
- 29:46Speaker 1: is a prep school that has a great program for
- 29:48Speaker 1: aspiring athletes. I've always been fascinated by the IMG Academy.
- 29:53Speaker 1: It seems like an Olympic village to me. There are
- 29:55Speaker 1: tennis and golf, prodigies, football, basketball, baseball, et cetera. What
- 29:59Speaker 1: was that experience like and how did it prepare you
- 30:02Speaker 1: for the future.
- 30:03Speaker 8: Oh?
- 30:03Speaker 5: Yeah, it definitely was good. IG's basically is college. That's
- 30:08Speaker 5: really what it is. It definitely gives you prepare for
- 30:11Speaker 5: next up and you're playing against the best people in
- 30:13Speaker 5: the country, so it definitely is a good thing.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Speaking of college, you could have gone anywhere, Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida,
- 30:20Speaker 1: you name it. You chose to go to Michigan. Did
- 30:22Speaker 1: you enjoy the recruiting process or did you find it stressful?
- 30:26Speaker 5: I wouldn't say either those. I mean it was cool.
- 30:28Speaker 5: You know, no colleges wanted to go, you know, I
- 30:30Speaker 5: had them many offers, but it got to the point
- 30:32Speaker 5: in time I was kind of tired of it, and so,
- 30:36Speaker 5: you know, really just narrowed it down to a few schools,
- 30:39Speaker 5: and yeah, I just chose Michigan, and yeah, it was
- 30:42Speaker 5: the best decisions for me.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I heard you tell a story about Michigan head coach
- 30:46Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh that I'm hoping you will repeat. There was
- 30:49Speaker 1: apparently a whiteboard sign in his office that is the
- 30:54Speaker 1: result of a conversation he had with your dad.
- 30:56Speaker 5: Oh. Yeah, before I committed it, might said he his
- 31:02Speaker 5: son Jack Yead, his son named Jet, and he said,
- 31:06Speaker 5: I want you to treat dej On how you treat
- 31:08Speaker 5: your son Jack. And so he wrote that on the
- 31:10Speaker 5: whiteboard live when I was a recruit, and to this
- 31:13Speaker 5: day it's stilling his whiteboard.
- 31:15Speaker 1: So you were there at Michigan for four years and
- 31:17Speaker 1: every time you'd walk into his office you would see
- 31:20Speaker 1: what he wrote down as a result of that conversation
- 31:22Speaker 1: with your dad.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Actually it's pretty good stuff. So in your final two
- 31:27Speaker 1: years at Michigan, the team was great, qualified for the
- 31:30Speaker 1: College Football Playoff both times you beat Ohio State in
- 31:33Speaker 1: back to back years, and the first win over Ohio
- 31:37Speaker 1: State ended an eight game head to head losing streak
- 31:40Speaker 1: against the buck Eyes. What was the euphoria like after
- 31:44Speaker 1: that game when you were part of the team that
- 31:45Speaker 1: ended that streak.
- 31:46Speaker 5: Oh man, it was great. It was a great feeling.
- 31:50Speaker 5: You know, that game is is huge. It's a lot
- 31:53Speaker 5: of a lot on the line for that game, so
- 31:56Speaker 5: so you know, change the dynamic of what's been going
- 31:59Speaker 5: on or what was happening in the past previously games
