- 0:00Speaker 1: I don't know what happens you leave work and do
- 0:01Speaker 1: a couple of shooters. It's one more thing.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I'm one more thing.
- 0:08Speaker 3: I was about town a couple of stiff ones to
- 0:13Speaker 3: get through this stinking podcast.
- 0:16Speaker 1: That's not true. So before we play one of our
- 0:20Speaker 1: favorite clips we've ever had in the history of the
- 0:22Speaker 1: radio show, apparently we have a new one. So these
- 0:25Speaker 1: are news anchors getting into an argument on the air,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Michael or like off the air, but they typed it's
- 0:30Speaker 1: off the air, but cameras are rolling, so it sounds.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Like a segment went bad. Is apparently what happened.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Okay, let's hear it.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to do that again. I am I'm
- 0:39Speaker 2: an Amy script the Amy's Angels one there was the
- 0:43Speaker 2: second thing didn't make sense, so I was just trying
- 0:45Speaker 2: to fix that part. And I can't wait for you
- 0:47Speaker 2: to go through them all and then I go through
- 0:49Speaker 2: them because then I'm already getting ready by that. But
- 0:51Speaker 2: this time we had to do the PSAs, So.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Finish, what go ahead?
- 0:59Speaker 2: I don't think you are you walking out really angry?
- 1:01Speaker 3: Geez?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Oh, Pete, can I feel please finish? We're'm gonna say
- 1:04Speaker 2: what the.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Grow up.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I'm so done with her antics telling on me every
- 1:12Speaker 2: five seconds. I'm done.
- 1:14Speaker 1: So I wish there was more. There had to be
- 1:16Speaker 1: more because it was mundane. But then it went zero
- 1:18Speaker 1: to right. There had to be more. Who cut it off?
- 1:22Speaker 3: Damn it?
- 1:23Speaker 1: Uh? It sounded like there was a gentleman there who
- 1:25Speaker 1: was trying to calm things down. And you hear that
- 1:28Speaker 1: towards the end, And isn't the woman in the classic? Yes? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 1: So now we're going to go back to uh famous
- 1:36Speaker 1: Los Angeles news. We gotta get more of that.
- 1:40Speaker 3: There's got to be Unless somebody realized, oh, these mics
- 1:43Speaker 3: are hot and cut it.
- 1:44Speaker 1: At that could be very well.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Yeah, that's happened to us more than once.
- 1:50Speaker 1: We're usually bad. Well I'm not gonna say we're usually bad.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Mouthing yeah, good lord man would be a bad idea.
- 1:58Speaker 1: The smart thing if you're in broadcasting is to never
- 2:01Speaker 1: say anything around a microphone that you don't want aired
- 2:04Speaker 1: or recorded. That's the smart thing to do. Do I
- 2:07Speaker 1: follow that? Have I followed that? Over the previous forty
- 2:11Speaker 1: three years I've been talking into microphones? Uh No, I'm
- 2:15Speaker 1: just lucky that there's not some viral something going out there.
- 2:19Speaker 1: That is a national meme of various things.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I've said, We've become savvy enough though that if we're
- 2:25Speaker 3: in a studio with microphones and we're getting, you know, treasonous,
- 2:32Speaker 3: that we unplug the microphone.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Reason. So this is a classic. I've heard it eight
- 2:41Speaker 1: million times and I look forward to hearing it again.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's so good. Male anchor and female anchor who had
- 2:47Speaker 1: been working together for years, and they were a big
- 2:49Speaker 1: deal in Los Angeles for a long time, and they
- 2:53Speaker 1: got I don't know what I've probably been building for years. Anyway,
- 2:56Speaker 1: this is how it went during a commercial break.
- 2:58Speaker 5: I guess first second, all the time it frequently is
- 3:04Speaker 5: complaining about it, then we better because tonight we better
- 3:08Speaker 5: talk about it because I think you've got a problem.
- 3:10Speaker 5: I think we've got a problem, all right, if that's
- 3:12Speaker 5: what you think, And we'll talk about it after the show,
- 3:15Speaker 5: and we'll talk about it with Roger Bell, because I'm
- 3:17Speaker 5: not going to sit here night after night and put
- 3:19Speaker 5: up with this sh okay.
- 3:22Speaker 6: Night after night, night after night where what looks.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Like that's the way it's going to go.
- 3:29Speaker 6: A little higher than that. Even you're not only wrong,
- 3:33Speaker 6: you're way out of line.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Let me tell you, so you started it pass you
- 3:36Speaker 5: want Harold Green? You might get them?
- 3:40Speaker 6: Is it really good?
- 3:40Speaker 2: Old Harold Green?
- 3:41Speaker 5: Okay, okay, you want to start dealing with Go ahead,
- 3:48Speaker 5: that's what you want. You just might get it. You know,
- 3:54Speaker 5: you go home and have a couple of shooters, and
- 3:56Speaker 5: I don't know what happens when you come back. You're
- 3:58Speaker 5: not the same lady.
- 3:59Speaker 3: That's it's not set.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Some nights it is.
- 4:03Speaker 6: Manne and the news happened. You see it happen on
- 4:08Speaker 6: Channel seven, the number one station to news and information
- 4:13Speaker 6: and Southern Cam upon you No Paul Moyer and Mark
- 4:17Speaker 6: Johnny mountin weather, Oh God, donajo, So I'm so happy?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Is eye Witness.
- 4:21Speaker 5: News the Mike you go in dead tonight in an
- 4:25Speaker 5: execution style murder in Los Angeles. Good evening, all, it's
- 4:28Speaker 5: now the eleven.
- 4:29Speaker 1: He's off being a professional.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Johnny Mott is refusing to choose sides in the current
- 4:34Speaker 3: bitch fest.
- 4:36Speaker 1: There's so much goodness in that. Oh, I know, we've
- 4:40Speaker 1: always enjoyed the fact that poor Hill de Green, who
- 4:42Speaker 1: done nothing wrong? WHOA how did I come in? Frick?
- 4:46Speaker 1: He's thinking, how did I get involved in this? Do
- 4:49Speaker 1: you want to work with shit? Wait on shit? Oh
- 4:56Speaker 1: my god. And then I like, he accuses her of
- 4:59Speaker 1: being too drunk to do her job and she has
- 5:02Speaker 1: like no response to it. Well, that's not true.
- 5:06Speaker 7: I mean, if you told.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Me I was drunk on the air and I wasn't,
- 5:11Speaker 1: what the hell are you talking about? Let's she is
- 5:14Speaker 1: too drunk to come up with a better comeback. That's
- 5:17Speaker 1: not true.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Night after night, I feel I almost feel bad for
- 5:21Speaker 3: her because she's a gentle spirit.
- 5:23Speaker 1: She sounds a dope.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, probably hot. I don't I don't know her. Actually,
- 5:28Speaker 3: I think she's still kicking. Harold Green passed what a
- 5:31Speaker 3: couple of years ago. I don't know what Headstone say.
- 5:38Speaker 1: He wasn't ship.
- 5:43Speaker 7: Quin saying is ship You.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Want to work with Harold Green? That's fine, good Old
- 5:47Speaker 1: Harold Green. You want to work with shit?
- 5:51Speaker 3: Sorry, Hans, I'm a nice guy, best way, maybe my
- 5:59Speaker 3: best days are behind. He's no need to you know,
- 6:02Speaker 3: I'm not even.
- 6:03Speaker 1: In this argument. Ah boy, that is so dangnan funny.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Oh, she has the aggressiveness because they had to go
- 6:13Speaker 3: back on the air, so everybody had to keep cool,
- 6:16Speaker 3: kind of.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Which one of them is pounding the papers. You think,
- 6:20Speaker 1: is that him or her that's dealing with their frustration
- 6:22Speaker 1: by pounding the scripts over and over again. I guess
- 6:25Speaker 1: it's him.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I'm guessing it's him. Probably seemed like a more male
- 6:29Speaker 3: thing today, and.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Her really weak retort of, oh, you're not only wrong,
- 6:34Speaker 1: you're way out of line.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Wow, about if I up the anti handing a little bit.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Oh here we go, Hell, hath no fury? Like a
- 6:43Speaker 1: woman's scored. She's about to lay it on him. You're
- 6:46Speaker 1: not only wrong, you're way out of line. What's that's
- 6:49Speaker 1: all you got?
- 6:50Speaker 3: You know? She strikes me as a sweet.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And then maybe she's just too nice to get into
- 6:55Speaker 1: the bare knuckled fight that what's his name was looking
- 6:58Speaker 1: for there right exactly?
- 7:00Speaker 4: We called her, kiddo.
- 7:00Speaker 1: You know that's true.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Look, kiddo, Wow, I just hope those two were able
- 7:08Speaker 3: to patch it up.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Do we know the story? Did they end up working
- 7:11Speaker 1: together for years after that? Or was that the end
- 7:13Speaker 1: of it?
- 7:13Speaker 4: Or I think they continued on.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I think they did too.
- 7:17Speaker 3: I remember we've heard the whole story more than once, but.
- 7:21Speaker 1: It was a long time ago, so back then it
- 7:24Speaker 1: will I mean, it's do we have a data on that.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Do you have any idea what year that was. No,
- 7:28Speaker 1: but it was before something could go viral online and
- 7:31Speaker 1: all that sort of thing. So you could have just
- 7:33Speaker 1: moved on and it only existed like at radio stations
- 7:36Speaker 1: and TV stations being passed on like physical media. If
- 7:40Speaker 1: it happened today, it would be everywhere. Jimmy Fallon would
- 7:45Speaker 1: be talking about it, and I mean it would be
- 7:47Speaker 1: be memes and set to music and everything like that.
- 7:50Speaker 1: You'd have to remss this, You'd have to address it.
- 7:53Speaker 7: You'd have to walk about Harold Harold Green, rug and shit,
- 7:56Speaker 7: shit Harold Green, the dance remigs, night after night, night
- 8:06Speaker 7: after night.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Harold Green, Tonight, Harold Green. That's not true. True. Yes,
- 8:14Speaker 1: they would have had to have addressed it, but I
- 8:15Speaker 1: think back in the old days they probably could just
- 8:17Speaker 1: soldier on and the ninety of their audience never heard it,
- 8:20Speaker 1: so didn't know that. Behind the scenes she was talking
- 8:23Speaker 1: about how drunk she was. I know, you go home,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I have a few shots, come back in here. Differently,
- 8:28Speaker 1: that's not true. Sounds a little true, man. You sound
- 8:33Speaker 1: a little slow.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Night after night, you know you do occasionally. I know
- 8:38Speaker 3: you have run into the drunk who does not slur
- 8:41Speaker 3: at all. Right, that's always impressed me. That's that's my
- 8:46Speaker 3: uh uh oh, I've had too much because I will.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Start to slur and you notice it yourself. Oh yeah.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Yeah. In fact, it's you know sometimes that happens that
- 8:55Speaker 3: you think, no, I'm fine, and then like thirty seconds
- 8:57Speaker 3: later you're like, that's why I think, oh oh no, whoops. Yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 3: I'm not going to finish this. Yeah, because I'd rather
- 9:05Speaker 3: not be embarrassing myself.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I do that enough.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Yes, Michael, that's the question is strictly for entertainment purposes
- 9:13Speaker 4: anybody listening, So would possibly either one of you have
- 9:18Speaker 4: ever been inebriated?
- 9:20Speaker 1: Oh many times? Oh yeah, what on the air? Yeah yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 1: many times, not many times, but more than once.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I mean there have been a couple of
- 9:31Speaker 3: things that we've done.
- 9:32Speaker 1: In the evening, well I've done I have to separate
- 9:35Speaker 1: between things where and I don't know if they I
- 9:37Speaker 1: don't know if you could still get away with this
- 9:39Speaker 1: in the radio industry. Maybe it could, because they do
- 9:41Speaker 1: that on New Year's Eve on CNN. That's part of
- 9:44Speaker 1: their whole thing. How drunk They're going to get nobody
- 9:46Speaker 1: watches to see how drunk they get. But I've done
- 9:47Speaker 1: a whole bunch of radio things where drinking was like
- 9:50Speaker 1: we were all drinking and that was part of the deal.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Like you're broadcasting at a parade or a concert or whatever,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and you're talking about how much you're drinking and everybody
- 9:58Speaker 1: knows you. That's different then the I wasn't supposed to
- 10:01Speaker 1: be drunk and I was, which only happened two or
- 10:05Speaker 1: three times I think, where I was actually drunk working
- 10:10Speaker 1: like an evening shift. God, I had one bad one
- 10:12Speaker 1: in Kansas City. Woo oh no. My best friend and
- 10:16Speaker 1: I went out. We drank all afternoon and I had
- 10:18Speaker 1: to work the shift that night. Oh boy, and I
- 10:21Speaker 1: was so damn hammered and uh playing records at the time.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And I'll tell you what happens when you're drunk the record.
- 10:29Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if it's a five minute song. It's
- 10:31Speaker 1: over in like that. I mean, you you get it on,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you get it rolling, you try not to slur out
- 10:37Speaker 1: this is Fleetwood mac over enunciating seato slur and uh,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and then you think, okay, I'm cool for a little
- 10:46Speaker 1: bit and you look over it's over and it's going
- 10:48Speaker 1: skits over you know it's already at the end of
- 10:50Speaker 1: the song. Oh that was rough. I absolutely should have
- 10:54Speaker 1: would have been fired for that if anybody had caught on. Wowow,
- 11:00Speaker 1: that was rough. I think that was the only time
- 11:03Speaker 1: I was actually drunk when I was supposed to not
- 11:06Speaker 1: be drunk. But that was a rough one. Horrifically hungover. Yeah,
- 11:11Speaker 1: oh my god, that's a different topic. Yeah. Name me
- 11:14Speaker 1: somebody in the radio or TV business that has not
- 11:16Speaker 1: done their job horrifically hungover and maybe they work for
- 11:19Speaker 1: k q R, Quaker Television or.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Something, right, Yeah, not good memories. Oh no, that's good
- 11:28Speaker 3: at all that. I can feel the nausea, the pain,
- 11:31Speaker 3: the headache.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Go if I remember just the same. Wait, I'm not
- 11:35Speaker 1: done with my description. It was k c FX, which
- 11:39Speaker 1: I believe still exists in Kansas City, and we're on
- 11:41Speaker 1: the air and game snow down the Fox. Yes, we
- 11:43Speaker 1: had the chiefs and I was working overnights on like
- 11:46Speaker 1: a Saturday night, and it's three o'clock in the morning.
- 11:48Speaker 1: So I don't know how many people were listening, but
- 11:52Speaker 1: if I remember right, I'll have to ask my friend Chris,
- 11:54Speaker 1: because he was there in the studio. People were calling
- 11:56Speaker 1: in and saying dude, are you okay? Oh yeah, that
- 12:00Speaker 1: was not good. Oh good boy. He could have snuffed
- 12:04Speaker 1: your career. And it's infinitly absolutely could have. Oh my lord, god,
- 12:08Speaker 1: dang it. I just get a song on him. Think okay,
- 12:11Speaker 1: I'm cool, I've got four let I'm gonna get a drink.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Oh what's over? Tell you what, Jack?
- 12:16Speaker 3: You go home, you drink forty beers. You're not the
- 12:19Speaker 3: same guy.
- 12:20Speaker 1: That's not that very true. Well, I guess that's it.
