Latest / Lisa & Russell / Barra & Hayden Young: Left Footer On The Wrong Side!
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Okay, Dan, thanks, buddy.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Youngie, look, everyone wants to know, great man.
- 0:27Speaker 1: How did you do it? How did you do it?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Was it a fluke? It wasn't a fluke. Left footer
- 0:31Speaker 1: on the wrong side. One of the goals of the year.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Only daylight between the goals and it went through. Talk
- 0:38Speaker 1: us through it, my friend.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think because it was a tight angle and
- 0:45Speaker 2: the expectations were sort of off, I wasn't really expected
- 0:49Speaker 2: to kick it. So there wasn't actually that, I didn't
- 0:51Speaker 2: feel that much pressure. I just thought I'm just going
- 0:52Speaker 2: to go back.
- 0:53Speaker 1: And What about when the siren went while you were
- 0:55Speaker 1: walking in?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, I knew, yeah. I knew there wasn't long, so
- 1:01Speaker 2: I knew the siren was about to go. So, yeah,
- 1:03Speaker 2: I just thought I was giving my best shot. And then, yeah,
- 1:05Speaker 2: I was pretty pumped when it did go through.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Mate, it was magnificent. And I reckon you celebrated before
- 1:11Speaker 1: it went through. Well, not celebrated. You gave those blokes
- 1:14Speaker 1: some advice across the fence there.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that's actually probably true because it honestly, off
- 1:21Speaker 2: the boot, I just– I knew it wasn't missing. Like,
- 1:23Speaker 2: I just felt that good off the boot. And then, yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 2: so I think I turned maybe a second earlier to
- 1:29Speaker 2: the crowd, which was risky, but luckily it didn't deviate.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Their faces when they were booing you and then suddenly
- 1:36Speaker 1: it went through. Where does that rank amongst your biggest
- 1:39Speaker 1: moments of your career? Is it one later on you
- 1:42Speaker 1: look back on or is it now you realize just
- 1:44Speaker 1: how big that was? It was like the turning point
- 1:46Speaker 1: in the match, basically.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't probably realise at the time because we
- 1:49Speaker 2: were still 20 points down. But I think, yeah, post-game
- 1:54Speaker 2: and sort of from now on, knowing that we sort
- 1:57Speaker 2: of came back from that point and had such a
- 1:58Speaker 2: good last quarter, it probably does add a little bit
- 2:01Speaker 2: more weight to it. So, yeah, I don't know. I
- 2:03Speaker 2: might look back on it. But, yeah, I still am
- 2:05Speaker 2: very proud that I was able to put it through
- 2:06Speaker 2: and help our team get some momentum. So, yeah, it
- 2:09Speaker 2: was special.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Mate, the only people prouder were the people at Gold
- 2:12Speaker 1: 96 FM. Where were they? I can tell you. Lisa's
- 2:16Speaker 1: in Bali cheering and Dan as well. Look, tell us
- 2:20Speaker 1: about halftime. I believe the coach was pretty relaxed. He
- 2:23Speaker 1: was almost jovial. He loves that word, jovial. And he
- 2:26Speaker 1: even cracked a gag amongst the boys. Was that right?
- 2:30Speaker 1: He wasn't too worried?
- 2:32Speaker 2: I can't remember if he cracked a gag or not
- 2:34Speaker 2: because I was pretty locked in. But yeah, his messaging
- 2:38Speaker 2: was really clear, which was great. He had a lot
- 2:42Speaker 2: of belief in the group. And I mean, we... had
- 2:46Speaker 2: actually played reasonably well in the first half, we just, like,
- 2:48Speaker 2: butchered a lot of opportunities, and, like, we had more
- 2:51Speaker 2: inside 50s, and we were going well around clearance, so,
- 2:55Speaker 2: you know, he wasn't necessarily concerned, but, I mean, he
- 2:59Speaker 2: might have been a little bit more concerned at three-quarter time,
- 3:02Speaker 2: had I not kicked that goal, and gave ourselves a
- 3:04Speaker 2: little bit of a chance, but, yeah, no, he was
- 3:07Speaker 2: really good, he coached well, he had a lot of
- 3:09Speaker 2: belief in us, and it probably enabled us to go
- 3:11Speaker 2: out in that last quarter, and play with freedom.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And you guys have a lot of belief as well. Dan, uh,
- 3:16Speaker 1: after the game, I've never seen this before. The coach,
- 3:18Speaker 1: Dean Cox, the opposition coach came in.
- 3:21Speaker 2: He's a good man.
- 3:21Speaker 1: In his darkest moment to congratulate. Did you see him?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Did you see him come in? What did you think
- 3:26Speaker 1: when you saw him?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Uh, yeah, I was surprised, but yeah, it was, um,
- 3:29Speaker 2: pretty admirable. Um, Yeah, no, he just came in and
- 3:32Speaker 2: congratulated the coaches and wished us luck for next week.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Does that happen normally?
- 3:37Speaker 1: Do coaches come in from.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Time to time? Not that I've ever seen it. So, no,
- 3:41Speaker 2: it's pretty amazing.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Mostly they stay in their room just wanting everybody, you know.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it would have been tough for them. But, yeah, no,
- 3:47Speaker 2: he's clearly a great man.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So how's the week been so far? Tickets, family, there's
- 3:52Speaker 1: going to be 3,000 at training tomorrow, the grand final
- 3:55Speaker 1: parade Friday. It's a big adjustment, isn't it?
- 3:58Speaker 2: It is, yeah. No, it is. There's certainly a little
- 4:00Speaker 2: bit more happening. My tickets are all sorted, which is great.
- 4:04Speaker 2: So I had to get that done as soon as possible.
- 4:06Speaker 1: How many was that? Did you have to get sorted?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Roughly 10, I think. Wow. A few family members.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Is there an allocation?
- 4:13Speaker 3: Do the players get a number?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, we get access to a certain amount and then
- 4:18Speaker 2: you can get sort of tickets through the AFL-PA, which
- 4:20Speaker 2: every player gets access to. So yeah, it's... Bit of
- 4:23Speaker 2: a mad scramble, but got it sorted. So yeah, get
- 4:26Speaker 2: that done early in the week. And then, you know,
- 4:28Speaker 2: training we'll have on Wednesday and there'll be plenty of
- 4:32Speaker 2: people there.
- 4:32Speaker 1: They're charging to get in because it's packed. I think
- 4:36Speaker 1: they have to do that. So it's going to be
- 4:38Speaker 1: 3,000 at Coburn tomorrow morning. The grand final parade, first
- 4:42Speaker 1: time when we did it at West Coast, sorry to
- 4:44Speaker 1: mention West Coast, in 91, we didn't go in it.
- 4:47Speaker 1: We said, we're not changing our routine. Get nicked. We're
- 4:49Speaker 1: putting blue and yellow balloons and they're going to go
- 4:51Speaker 1: down in the cars. And anyone who's not playing. So
- 4:54Speaker 1: none of the stars actually went down. I went down.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And then the next year, Moldes goes, and whatever you do,
- 5:01Speaker 1: we went in the next year, 92. Whatever you do,
- 5:04Speaker 1: don't take any water from the crowd. They'll poison you.
- 5:06Speaker 1: They'll poison you. How paranoid were we?
- 5:10Speaker 2: That's good advice.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're a Victorian. Mate, can you believe, you
- 5:15Speaker 1: being a Victorian boy, you must be thinking, oh my God,
- 5:18Speaker 1: I am in the grand final parade. I am in
- 5:20Speaker 1: the grand final. It's monstrous, isn't it?
- 5:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. It's still sort of sinking in a
- 5:25Speaker 2: little bit. And I think because potentially in that game,
- 5:28Speaker 2: it sort of felt like we were losing and then
- 5:30Speaker 2: we came back. So it feels a little bit more
- 5:32Speaker 2: special that we were able to get it done. But yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 2: it's something that I've dreamt of my whole life. And,
- 5:37Speaker 2: you know, I love playing on the MCJs where I
- 5:39Speaker 2: grew up watching football. I would go and watch the
- 5:43Speaker 2: grand final parade. I was a Collingwood supporter. So I
- 5:45Speaker 2: went and watched them in the parade a few times.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And yeah, it's just some of the highlights of my childhood.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Pretty special, and I'm super excited. And it's great. Yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 2: I'll have lots of family and friends there that will
- 5:56Speaker 2: be able to be at the parade and at the game.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Pointing out. Look, I'll ask you a quick one about
- 6:00Speaker 1: Lockie Neal. Not about him, but about the issue. Should
- 6:04Speaker 1: you miss a grand final for a gut punch? What's
- 6:06Speaker 1: your view?
- 6:07Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't really have a view. I
- 6:09Speaker 2: don't know. Leave it to the MRO to decide. If
- 6:14Speaker 2: he plays or doesn't play, hopefully we get the job done.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I heard today the defense will be that the vision's
- 6:20Speaker 1: too grainy. It looks like when you see the Yeti
- 6:23Speaker 1: or whatever.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It's a long way off, isn't it?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Yeah. You know that vision?
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It's not the Yeti. What's it called?
- 6:28Speaker 2: The abominable snowman.
- 6:29Speaker 1: The abominable snowman. It looks like that vision. That's how
- 6:32Speaker 1: bad it is. Hey, quickly, Andy Brayshaw, we can be
- 6:35Speaker 1: immortals if we win Frio's first flag. Have you thought
- 6:38Speaker 1: about that much? Have you thought about you could be,
- 6:41Speaker 1: we could know an immortal?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Definitely have. Definitely heard it a lot in the last week,
- 6:47Speaker 2: that's for sure. But prior to that, it's sort of
- 6:49Speaker 2: just been something that's been on our wall since I've
- 6:52Speaker 2: been at the football club that we see every day
- 6:54Speaker 2: and it's always a constant reminder. But I wouldn't say
- 6:58Speaker 2: I think about it 24-7, but certainly in the conscious.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Hayden, do you see much of the background noise as
- 7:06Speaker 3: far as, did you see all the Frio fans that
- 7:08Speaker 3: flocked out onto the streets of Frio today?
- 7:11Speaker 1: After the game on the weekend. Do you guys get
- 7:13Speaker 1: exposed to that?
- 7:13Speaker 3: Do you see it?
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, no, we definitely saw that. We were sort of
- 7:17Speaker 2: in the hotel room after the game. We were all
- 7:19Speaker 2: looking at all the footage and it was, yeah, all
- 7:22Speaker 2: the boys were loving it. It was absolutely insane. That's awesome.
- 7:24Speaker 2: It makes you feel pretty special.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Can you imagine what could happen if you win, mate? Listen,
- 7:30Speaker 1: last one. You weren't at Optus last night for the
- 7:32Speaker 1: Brownlow function. It was the Nick Dacos show. I bet
- 7:36Speaker 1: you were upset you weren't there knowing you. Not, not.
- 7:41Speaker 1: How good's Dacos though? I mean, you grew up a
- 7:43Speaker 1: Collingwood fan. He's big, isn't he?
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty impressive. Pretty impressive. He probably should have won
- 7:48Speaker 2: one already, but yeah, it doesn't surprise me that he
- 7:51Speaker 2: won in that fashion either. He's a star player and
- 7:54Speaker 2: clearly dominated all year and is well deserving of a
- 7:57Speaker 2: Brownlow medal.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Feels like a lot of the state is behind you,
- 8:00Speaker 1: great man. And you know, what you did last weekend
- 8:03Speaker 1: was incredible and galvanized the joint. And I think Feels like, Dan,
- 8:07Speaker 1: what do you reckon? Feels like even the Eagles people
- 8:09Speaker 1: are sort of shifting a bit.
- 8:10Speaker 3: The whole state definitely getting around you boys.
- 8:13Speaker 2: That's good to hear. That's good to hear. We'll make
- 8:15Speaker 2: the most of it for this week because it won't
- 8:16Speaker 2: last next year.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Good on you, mate. You're a beauty. I wish you
- 8:19Speaker 1: all the best, eh?
- 8:20Speaker 3: That's amazing. Thank you very much, Barra. And thank you, Hayden.
- 8:24Speaker 3: And thanks for coming in, mate. And good luck for
- 8:26Speaker 3: this weekend.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Go the Dockers.
