- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's jump right into some football discussion. Jeff Legwald of
- 0:03Speaker 1: ESPN joins us right now. He is live in Indianapolis.
- 0:07Speaker 1: We're talking combine. Jeff Legwald, I don't know how much
- 0:12Speaker 1: you can help yourself with the measurables, but Sonny Styles
- 0:17Speaker 1: certainly seems to be styling his way into a higher
- 0:22Speaker 1: first round pick. What is he getting done this week
- 0:25Speaker 1: at the Combine?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Oh? Just everything? How about that he's getting everything done?
- 0:32Speaker 2: He's been the maybe what teams would say, the guy
- 0:35Speaker 2: who's been the best interview. What he did on the
- 0:39Speaker 2: field last night was ridiculous, and his game tape, for
- 0:46Speaker 2: you know, his career and especially this past season was exceptional.
- 0:50Speaker 2: So there are no boxes that Sunny Styles doesn't check
- 0:54Speaker 2: as a draft prospect, and that's why he won't wait
- 0:58Speaker 2: very long to hear his name called on draft Day.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I love that the uh the Broncos had a formal
- 1:05Speaker 2: interview with Sonny Styles, but unless they're going to trade
- 1:08Speaker 2: twenty slots up in the first round, they have no
- 1:10Speaker 2: shot at getting it.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Jeff, If I was to set the total at
- 1:15Speaker 1: three and a half over or under three and a half,
- 1:20Speaker 1: Ohio State Buck guys go in the top ten of
- 1:22Speaker 1: this draft over.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's wild.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's an amazing group. And you know, the
- 1:31Speaker 2: two best forties you know, Now, granted, the forty yard
- 1:35Speaker 2: desh isn't everything, but the two best forties among the
- 1:37Speaker 2: linebackers last night were teammates from Ohio State, and they're
- 1:42Speaker 2: two of the best players on the board. And again,
- 1:44Speaker 2: when when you're talking about the combine and what it
- 1:47Speaker 2: means and all this, I think it's always important to
- 1:51Speaker 2: remember the guys who do great here and have exceptional
- 1:55Speaker 2: game tape. That's those are your elite prospects. And Rvel
- 2:00Speaker 2: Reeves might be the best player on the draft board,
- 2:04Speaker 2: and Sony Styles are two of the elite blue the
- 2:08Speaker 2: scouting coding of blue players on the board.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Jeff, I'm curious your opinion, do you, because again, it
- 2:15Speaker 4: feels like the Broncos have had a lot of linebacker interviews.
- 2:18Speaker 4: And then maybe you're gonna tell me it's just coincidence,
- 2:20Speaker 4: because because all right, that's because the Bronco you know,
- 2:23Speaker 4: the I guess the linebacker group was in there earlier
- 2:25Speaker 4: than some of the other position groups.
- 2:27Speaker 3: But is this a team that tells us what they're
- 2:29Speaker 3: doing or is this a team.
- 2:30Speaker 4: When it comes to George Payton, Sean Payton, do you
- 2:32Speaker 4: find that you can't really trust him until the pick
- 2:35Speaker 4: is made?
- 2:36Speaker 3: You know?
- 2:36Speaker 4: Like again, I for background, like Mike Shanan never talking
- 2:39Speaker 4: to Jay Cutler before drafting him and all that, Like,
- 2:41Speaker 4: how do you think this team operates when it comes
- 2:43Speaker 4: to draft picks.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I think they operate on due diligence and when they
- 2:49Speaker 2: you know, Sean Payton earlier this week's here in Indy,
- 2:54Speaker 2: you know, named positions he considered musts for the Broncos
- 2:58Speaker 2: in the offseason, and he named linebacker and he named
- 3:02Speaker 2: running backs. So I think you know, they've been public
- 3:06Speaker 2: about there. They're gonna do their due diligence and free
- 3:09Speaker 2: agency and the draft on those two positions. You know,
- 3:13Speaker 2: I think they're truthful about that. Now. As far as
- 3:17Speaker 2: who they're interested in, they they they're no more uh,
- 3:21Speaker 2: you know, clear on that publicly than any other team.
- 3:25Speaker 2: In fact, you know, last year, I think Sean Payton
- 3:28Speaker 2: forbid anyone in the building to speak R. J. Harvey's
- 3:31Speaker 2: name publicly before the draft.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Jeff leg Well ESPN joining us from Indianapolis. He's with
- 3:38Speaker 1: us on the Ramos Law hotline. Car accident. You need
- 3:40Speaker 1: Ramos Law medical doctor and attorney. Visit ramos law dot com. Jeff,
- 3:44Speaker 1: let's jump to guys that are already in Broncos uniforms.
- 3:48Speaker 1: News of the Day j Kwan macmillan second round tender
- 3:53Speaker 1: roughly five point eight million dollars for this upcoming season.
- 3:57Speaker 1: We've had the discussion on this show Absolute No Brain
- 4:00Speaker 1: or to bring back Jaquon McMillan. What are next steps
- 4:04Speaker 1: now for the Broncos and if you could try and
- 4:08Speaker 1: ballpark us out at contract, what's that look like for
- 4:11Speaker 1: Jaquan McMillan.
- 4:13Speaker 2: You know, I don't I'm not sure what you know
- 4:15Speaker 2: that there aren't many comps for you know, Nickel Corner,
- 4:19Speaker 2: uh and all of those things, and sometimes you know,
- 4:23Speaker 2: unfortunately for Jaquan, your your level of contract progression reflects
- 4:28Speaker 2: on how you came into the league and and you know,
- 4:32Speaker 2: coming in as an undrafted and making a team that's
- 4:35Speaker 2: sometimes that's a longer road to a bigger deal. But
- 4:38Speaker 2: I think this is just a step in the process.
- 4:41Speaker 2: You know. I think they certainly want to bring it back,
- 4:45Speaker 2: they want to talk about something longer. But I think
- 4:48Speaker 2: the issue will be will somebody come uh, sweeping in
- 4:52Speaker 2: to force their hand a little bit. And sometimes teams,
- 4:57Speaker 2: you know, sort of want to let everybody else set
- 4:59Speaker 2: the mark. And with a restricted free agent, you have
- 5:03Speaker 2: the opportunity to let other people tell you kind of
- 5:07Speaker 2: what the value of your player is out there instead
- 5:12Speaker 2: of just what the the agent is telling you or
- 5:14Speaker 2: what you think your data tells you. So I think
- 5:19Speaker 2: that's some of just tendering him now, but I think
- 5:23Speaker 2: they hope to get something done. But you know, again,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I think a lot of that too is when they
- 5:28Speaker 2: sit down in the building, what's the long term plan
- 5:31Speaker 2: for John A. Baron, you know, a first round pick
- 5:36Speaker 2: moving forward? But in their perfect world, they have all
- 5:40Speaker 2: the corners they want back on the depth chart.
- 5:44Speaker 4: By the way, Jeff, we are live at Ball Arena
- 5:47Speaker 4: in front of the Mammoth game coming up tonight that
- 5:48Speaker 4: I've got to call. You're hearing shake Down Street in
- 5:50Speaker 4: the background. I don't know how much that's coming through,
- 5:52Speaker 4: but they are warming up for their big performance later.
- 5:55Speaker 3: If you'll feel right now, I'm taking it there you go,
- 5:58Speaker 3: yeah it. Hey, Jeff, what are some tight ends that
- 6:03Speaker 3: you think will work?
- 6:04Speaker 4: I mean, that is a position that I'd love to
- 6:06Speaker 4: see them add to and I love Frankly, I I.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Would not care if they traded up for Kendrick Sidik.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I don't know that will happen.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Give me some names that you're kind of interested in
- 6:16Speaker 4: watching that you think might fit the type of tight
- 6:19Speaker 4: end that Sean Payton likes because he's not always looking
- 6:22Speaker 4: for the joker, even though he is right.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah, now you know they one named the sort of
- 6:29Speaker 2: watch and the best world is. They did have Max
- 6:32Speaker 2: Claire from Ohio State. Uh, they did have a you know,
- 6:36Speaker 2: one of their formal sit downs with him. I think
- 6:39Speaker 2: they've taken a long look at injuries from Texas. Jack Endrees, Uh,
- 6:45Speaker 2: you know, kind of a guy who flashed some downfield
- 6:49Speaker 2: ability with Texas even though he didn't get that many,
- 6:53Speaker 2: uh that many targets. But you know, I think those
- 6:56Speaker 2: are kind of the guys you're you're you're looking for,
- 6:59Speaker 2: you know, Dallan Bentley from Utah, Utah As they have
- 7:05Speaker 2: plenty of guys in the Broncos locker rooms for Utah,
- 7:09Speaker 2: so they obviously like what the program produces there, including
- 7:13Speaker 2: a tight end they took last year in the drafted loner.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So but they they've made the rounds here. You know
- 7:20Speaker 2: they they've They've had plenty of their formal sit down
- 7:24Speaker 2: slots taken up by tight end, running back and inside linebackers.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Jeff, what do you think of Kate Aughton out of
- 7:31Speaker 1: Tampa Bay, veteran tight end four years in the league,
- 7:36Speaker 1: certainly more of a I guess the term is two
- 7:39Speaker 1: way tight end because you can use them in line,
- 7:41Speaker 1: you can split them wide if you want to. Uh,
- 7:44Speaker 1: does Kate Oughten check this Sean Payton boxes so to speak,
- 7:48Speaker 1: if they're going to keep Evan Ingram around?
- 7:51Speaker 2: I do? I think so, because they I think they
- 7:53Speaker 2: need more players that sort of don't tip their hand
- 7:57Speaker 2: by when they're in the game. So anybody who has
- 8:00Speaker 2: at tight end, who has that two way ability gives
- 8:03Speaker 2: you that flexibility to not be showing people, Okay, when
- 8:07Speaker 2: this guy's in, it's most often a run set, and
- 8:10Speaker 2: when this guy's in, it's most often this collection of
- 8:14Speaker 2: pass routes. So yeah, I think any player like Atton
- 8:18Speaker 2: who has that can play on early rundowns and can
- 8:22Speaker 2: play in long yardage downs balls, I think certainly helps them.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Again, this is all shaken out like it is going
- 8:32Speaker 4: to be a defensive pick if they stay at thirty.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Just the more I see some of these studs, some
- 8:37Speaker 4: of the freak numbers. Everything you promised us a month
- 8:39Speaker 4: ago is coming true and looks like it's going to
- 8:42Speaker 4: continue to come true.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Out at Indianapolis.
- 8:46Speaker 4: There is an offensive lineman, maybe a top pick they
- 8:50Speaker 4: could survive surprise us with. Is there a position that
- 8:53Speaker 4: would surprise you at thirty, Jeff, I've done a lot
- 8:55Speaker 4: of drafts with you, and obviously you don't know what
- 8:58Speaker 4: you're gonna get. You've told us all there's a pretty
- 9:00Speaker 4: good chance you're not even to have a first round
- 9:03Speaker 4: grade on a guy at thirty anyway. But is there
- 9:05Speaker 4: a position that would be a surprise at thirty for you?
- 9:10Speaker 2: Uh? I guess I And you know, folks may be
- 9:15Speaker 2: surprised by this, but it would surprise me a little
- 9:20Speaker 2: if it's a wide receiver because they've been so adamant
- 9:23Speaker 2: about both the GM and the head coach have been
- 9:27Speaker 2: so adamant this week about what they've invested in that
- 9:30Speaker 2: room already and how much they like it. So I
- 9:34Speaker 2: don't think that's a smoke screen. I think they really, really,
- 9:38Speaker 2: really do white their situation at receiver if healthy. But
- 9:43Speaker 2: you know, again, if you get down to pick thirty
- 9:47Speaker 2: and there's a receiver who's in your top eighteen on
- 9:50Speaker 2: your board, you're taking the receivers. So but that'd be
- 9:55Speaker 2: that'd be kind of a position where I'd be intrigued
- 9:58Speaker 2: to see who's on the board if a receiver came
- 10:00Speaker 2: off at thirty for them and Andy, I got some
- 10:03Speaker 2: more bad news for you. The corners just ran and
- 10:07Speaker 2: fifteen fifteen of them ran under four or five. So
- 10:14Speaker 2: it is a defensive board. My friend.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Oh look, Dmax, you guy that hates the corners, not me,
- 10:19Speaker 4: you can talk to him about that. I mean, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 4: I what if the corners the guy you gotta go get?
- 10:24Speaker 4: The corners the guy you gotta go get, because again,
- 10:26Speaker 4: I don't know that they're gonna be able to afford
- 10:27Speaker 4: to Radley Moss at some point. I don't know, you know,
- 10:30Speaker 4: I think there's a number of guys that you get
- 10:32Speaker 4: to get. Now that safety, what about the safety from Toledo.
- 10:34Speaker 4: This is not what I wanted to ask you, but
- 10:37Speaker 4: the safety from Toledo it seems to already be getting
- 10:40Speaker 4: a ton of buzz.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I know, we told you there was a mock that
- 10:43Speaker 3: had him there.
- 10:44Speaker 4: After the testing, do you think there's any chance he'll
- 10:46Speaker 4: still be a guy that could be there.
- 10:48Speaker 1: It's a manual McNeil Warren.
- 10:49Speaker 3: They're saying, could be the next M and Warry.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Sounds like a good law firm, a manual McNeil and Warren.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, make the call?
- 10:59Speaker 3: Is that?
- 11:00Speaker 2: And when when you're in trouble right now, the safeties
- 11:04Speaker 2: are just now getting ready to run right Okay, they're
- 11:07Speaker 2: keying it up. So but he what people like about
- 11:12Speaker 2: uh McNeil Warren is that, uh, he gets the ball
- 11:16Speaker 2: out on the ground. I mean he he forced nine
- 11:19Speaker 2: fumbles in his career. Uh and that's a pretty good
- 11:22Speaker 2: total for a safety. So and he's really uh uh
- 11:28Speaker 2: range long and rangy as a player. So he's kind
- 11:32Speaker 2: of got that long frame. And what that means is
- 11:35Speaker 2: suddenly you can be a four to five eight guy,
- 11:38Speaker 2: but you play like a a four four nine player
- 11:42Speaker 2: because of your reach. And and that's why when you
- 11:46Speaker 2: hear scouts and GM's talking about he, you know, players
- 11:49Speaker 2: being long, that's why they want it, because the speed
- 11:53Speaker 2: quotient becomes a whole different thing.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Jeff Broader question before we get you out of here,
- 11:58Speaker 1: philosophical all you've covered. I believe this is your fifth
- 12:02Speaker 1: or sixth George Peyton draft that you have covered. Now
- 12:07Speaker 1: as you have gotten to know the way that Peyton
- 12:10Speaker 1: and Peyton work together and kind of what they're looking for,
- 12:13Speaker 1: do you feel as though you have a good sense
- 12:15Speaker 1: of as you watch players, as you listen to players,
- 12:18Speaker 1: you can think to yourself, Oh, this guy sounds like
- 12:21Speaker 1: a Broncos kind of guy.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I know that that's the Sean Payton does one
- 12:30Speaker 2: very big thing that every GM or scout loves, and
- 12:34Speaker 2: that is he has a very clear and definitive idea
- 12:37Speaker 2: what he's looking for at every position, and that that
- 12:42Speaker 2: that clear choice to him has definitive parameters tight weight, speed, character.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I mean, they they very quickly take players off their
- 12:54Speaker 2: board who don't fit that that profile. And I think,
- 12:58Speaker 2: you know, George Peyton has a very good understanding of
- 13:01Speaker 2: what that is. And you can go through I can
- 13:06Speaker 2: go through my draft evaluations and my reports, and I
- 13:11Speaker 2: can very quickly remove plenty of guys who have no
- 13:15Speaker 2: shot at getting drafted by the Broncos because they don't
- 13:18Speaker 2: fit one of those things.
- 13:21Speaker 4: All Right, we got about a minute Brett Beach apparently
- 13:24Speaker 4: said that like twenty of his players of his top
- 13:26Speaker 4: seventy five already gone because of nil deals. Do you
- 13:29Speaker 4: believe that this draft has been affected to that length
- 13:32Speaker 4: as well?
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe, but you know, I think I think some
- 13:40Speaker 2: of that is a little bit.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Just talking in the bar, having a little fun.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that seems a little enhanced. Let's say, Ah.
- 13:49Speaker 4: But maybe he's visited the Rocky Mountain Men's clinic there.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go. There's no question at the back
- 13:55Speaker 2: end of since nil really got cranked out, the Day
- 14:00Speaker 2: three has been severely impacted. I think a lot of
- 14:03Speaker 2: people feel like the boards are dinner from top to bottom.
- 14:06Speaker 2: But I don't think, uh, you know, there's a handful
- 14:11Speaker 2: of guys who have been would have been in the
- 14:14Speaker 2: in the first round conversation, but it wouldn't have meant
- 14:18Speaker 2: like six or seven more first round grades in this draft.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I don't think those kinds of players stayed behind because
- 14:25Speaker 2: you if if you're a first round pick or even
- 14:28Speaker 2: a high two, there aren't many nil deals that are
- 14:31Speaker 2: going to beat the guaranteed money of what you would
- 14:33Speaker 2: have been as a draft pick.
- 14:35Speaker 1: To that point, Jeff, like, now that we're like we're
- 14:37Speaker 1: beyond the COVID window and everything else like that. I mean,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I've heard comments being made the next year's draft is
- 14:44Speaker 1: expected to be an historically great draft.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Loaded, loaded. Everybody's already positioning for.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Yeah, what what do you what have you heard on that?
- 14:53Speaker 1: And how is that impacting uh teams thought processes.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I think you'll see a lot of drafts, weekend trades,
- 15:01Speaker 2: and even trades leading up to it that include twenty
- 15:03Speaker 2: twenty seven draft picks because people want them because they
- 15:08Speaker 2: they do see a very right now, you know, And
- 15:12Speaker 2: that's always sort of like the strength of schedule thing.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You know, how does how tough does the team's schedule
- 15:18Speaker 2: look before the season? Sure is always different, but no,
- 15:21Speaker 2: right now it projects to be a really really good draft. Maybe,
- 15:26Speaker 2: you know, since you know, the twenty twenty four draft
- 15:30Speaker 2: was considered pretty good and you know, on par with
- 15:34Speaker 2: some of those were the first round the true first
- 15:38Speaker 2: round grades push eighteen, nineteen or twenty something like that.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Jeff Lakewell and everybody ESPN from Indianapolis at the combine
- 15:47Speaker 1: breaking it all down for us. Leggie will talk to
- 15:49Speaker 1: you Monday.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Thanks, dude, Take carefuls We'll see him
