- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:31Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:36Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:38Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:42Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking
- 0:45Speaker 1: about this week's full episode subject on York. We are
- 0:49Speaker 1: previewing the coming episode on the Who and the Riverfront
- 0:52Speaker 1: Coliseum disaster, talking I'm so obsessed with you, Blues, and
- 0:56Speaker 1: we go through your voicemails, text DMS emails and as always,
- 1:00Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie. Al Right, this goes, let's
- 1:03Speaker 1: get into it. So Ricardo Lopez was obsessed with York
- 1:17Speaker 1: and nearly killed her, as we just heard in this
- 1:19Speaker 1: week's full episode. Mark David Chapman was obsessed with John
- 1:24Speaker 1: Lennon and did indeed kill the coolest Beatle. Nathan Gale
- 1:29Speaker 1: was obsessed with Pantera, and he shot and murdered their
- 1:33Speaker 1: guitar player dined by Daryl when Dyne was on stage
- 1:36Speaker 1: with his other band, Damage Plan. Coincidentally on the same
- 1:39Speaker 1: date that John Lennon was murdered December eighth, also the
- 1:43Speaker 1: same day that Jim Marson was born. Anyways, this theme
- 1:47Speaker 1: of obsession got me thinking about musicians and their obsession,
- 1:54Speaker 1: so flipping it. So these everything I just talked about
- 1:56Speaker 1: was about fans being obsessed with rockstars. This is about
- 1:59Speaker 1: musicians who are who themselves are obsessed. Okay, And I
- 2:03Speaker 1: thought about how obsessed Kurt Cobaine was with Courtney Love.
- 2:07Speaker 1: It's something that I don't think gets enough coverage, but
- 2:11Speaker 1: I found it when I was researching Nirvana. For the
- 2:14Speaker 1: two episodes that we did in Nirvana, you could see
- 2:16Speaker 1: it's clear as day the dude was obsessed with her.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And there's a lot of his writings that depict his obsession.
- 2:23Speaker 1: So some people would ask, was Kurt even obsessed with Courtney?
- 2:26Speaker 1: And the answer I think is absolutely yes he was.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Here's an example in one journal entry of Kurtz, he
- 2:33Speaker 1: writes about Courtney Courtney, this is a quote, Courtney, when
- 2:35Speaker 1: you're not around, I literally can't breathe, I can't think.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I feel like a lost child looking for its mother
- 2:42Speaker 1: in a department store. I ache for you. I need
- 2:44Speaker 1: you so fucking bad it scares me. I want to
- 2:47Speaker 1: crawl inside your body and live there now. Of course,
- 2:52Speaker 1: Kurt Cobain was a total mess when he died, aside
- 2:56Speaker 1: from his relationship with Courtney Love that depending on who
- 3:00Speaker 1: you talk to, will be described to you as being
- 3:02Speaker 1: toxic or damaged at the time or it's hard to
- 3:08Speaker 1: depict that relationship without negativity there at the end. And
- 3:12Speaker 1: Kurt was of course depressed and heavily addicted to drugs
- 3:17Speaker 1: and had been for some time, and that means, you know,
- 3:20Speaker 1: his brains were kind of like oatmeal. But all that said,
- 3:25Speaker 1: I often think what would have happened if Kirk Cobain
- 3:27Speaker 1: didn't kill himself. How would it have gone for Kurt?
- 3:31Speaker 1: And in this context, I'm thinking how would his obsession
- 3:35Speaker 1: with Courtney Love have played out, not just in his
- 3:38Speaker 1: relationship but in his career. I have thoughts, none of
- 3:42Speaker 1: them are good, But I want to keep going down
- 3:43Speaker 1: this obsession rabbit hole with you guys. And where the Nirvana,
- 3:48Speaker 1: where the Kirk cobeine of it all led me? There
- 3:50Speaker 1: aren't any Nirvana songs that I can think of the
- 3:53Speaker 1: deal with the type of obsession that we're talking about.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Maybe there were I didn't really research. I was just
- 3:58Speaker 1: thinking off the top of my head, but it could
- 4:00Speaker 1: be thinking, what are some of the other tunes of
- 4:03Speaker 1: some other songs of obsession from artists that are bordering
- 4:08Speaker 1: on the creepy okay? Songs of obsession that are bordering
- 4:12Speaker 1: on the creepy okay? Well, speaking of John Lennon, there's
- 4:15Speaker 1: Run for Your Life with it's I'd rather see you dead,
- 4:17Speaker 1: little girl than to be with another man now. John
- 4:20Speaker 1: Lennon later said, of course, that he regretted writing that song,
- 4:25Speaker 1: and I always saw the song as sort of a
- 4:27Speaker 1: product of the times. And if you're going to indict
- 4:29Speaker 1: anyone here, I'm not letting John Lennon completely off the hook,
- 4:31Speaker 1: but you got to indict the times. Okay. John said
- 4:34Speaker 1: he regretted it. He always said he regretted that song.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And again, I think it's more about the time that
- 4:38Speaker 1: the songwriter was working in more than it is an
- 4:40Speaker 1: actual statement about a woman that the songwriter was thinking about.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And again I'm not excusing John Lennon. I'm not excusing it,
- 4:48Speaker 1: but we got to take a new context the era
- 4:50Speaker 1: that lyric I'd rather see you dead little girls than
- 4:52Speaker 1: to be with another man. It is hardly I want
- 4:54Speaker 1: to fuck you like an Animal by Trent and Resnor,
- 4:56Speaker 1: which I'm not sure if obsession was on Trend's mind
- 5:00Speaker 1: when he wrote that lyric or not, but one could
- 5:02Speaker 1: sure as hell make the case. I love that song,
- 5:04Speaker 1: by the way, but you know, taken literally kind of
- 5:08Speaker 1: fucked up. Also, I'm pretty sure Marilyn Manson claims that
- 5:11Speaker 1: he wrote that lyric, that he gave Trent that idea.
- 5:14Speaker 1: That's a whole other wormhole. But let's stay in the
- 5:17Speaker 1: creepy obsession song wormhole for a minute. Okay, And thinking
- 5:22Speaker 1: about this, I came a I don't know why, but
- 5:26Speaker 1: Sarah McLaughlin just she cracks me up.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 5:30Speaker 1: She's like the most self serious, least funny person out there.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Although she was in an episode of PORTLANDBIA, so I
- 5:35Speaker 1: gotta give her some credit. But anyway, Sarah mclochlin, check
- 5:37Speaker 1: this out. This is so fucked up. Sarah maclachlin had
- 5:39Speaker 1: a super fan, an obsessed fan, a computer programming fan
- 5:43Speaker 1: from Canada. Okay, so I'm assuming a nerd and he
- 5:46Speaker 1: wrote her all these creepy letters, very very disturbing stuff.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Sarah McLachlin then took some of the Stalker's own words
- 5:55Speaker 1: from those letters and used them in a song that
- 5:58Speaker 1: she wrote about obsession called Session the Stalker. This is
- 6:02Speaker 1: where it gets weird. The Stalker then sued Sarah McLachlan
- 6:04Speaker 1: for plagiarizing his words, which she admitted she had done that.
- 6:10Speaker 1: She didn't admit plagiarism, but she admitted she used the words.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Wasn't like she was plagiarizing on purpose, trying to pass
- 6:18Speaker 1: it off as her own work, you know, to kind
- 6:20Speaker 1: of get by on people. She was blurring her life
- 6:22Speaker 1: with her art in a pretty awesome way, I would say,
- 6:25Speaker 1: and also obviously very creepy in a good way. But
- 6:29Speaker 1: to make the story even weirder, the case that was
- 6:34Speaker 1: brought by the Stalker against Sarah McLaughlin was never resolved
- 6:39Speaker 1: because the stalker killed himself. Super Dark, Super dark, Sarah
- 6:46Speaker 1: McLaughlin Dark the music's dark too, or shit's dark really
- 6:51Speaker 1: is for somebody so innocent looking. By the way, there's
- 6:55Speaker 1: a fantastic video going around the internet of these two
- 6:59Speaker 1: do at this at a karaoke club and they get
- 7:03Speaker 1: up to sing whatever song Sarah McLaughlin uses in that
- 7:08Speaker 1: commercial she does with the dogs that she's trying to save,
- 7:11Speaker 1: where the dogs are all in cages and the dogs
- 7:13Speaker 1: are all beat to shit, and you know, she's this
- 7:16Speaker 1: is her charity, this is the thing she's doing, and
- 7:18Speaker 1: I'm not making fun of it. It's a great thing
- 7:19Speaker 1: that she's doing, whatever this foundation is. But we've all
- 7:23Speaker 1: seen this commercial, I think, and you know, Sarah, in
- 7:27Speaker 1: addition to the images of the dogs which are truly horrific,
- 7:30Speaker 1: Sarah McLaughlin a very obviously self serious kind of way,
- 7:34Speaker 1: is given the vo on the trauma of these dogs
- 7:39Speaker 1: are facing and why people need to send their money
- 7:41Speaker 1: to this foundation. So back to this video that's going
- 7:44Speaker 1: around the internet, which is hysterical. These two dudes are
- 7:47Speaker 1: at a karaoke bar and they get up and they
- 7:49Speaker 1: choose this song and one dude is singing the Sarah
- 7:51Speaker 1: McLachlin part, and the other dude is reading the vo
- 7:54Speaker 1: from the commercial about the dogs and the reaction on
- 7:59Speaker 1: the people's face in the carryo it's this fucking priceis
- 8:03Speaker 1: It's so good? Google?
- 8:04Speaker 3: That? All right?
- 8:05Speaker 1: What other songs? What other creepy obsession songs are there,
- 8:09Speaker 1: inspired here by Buorick and Ricardo Lopez, their Stan of course,
- 8:13Speaker 1: by your favorite and mine apparently Eminem. We all know
- 8:17Speaker 1: that song, so I'm not going to go into it here.
- 8:19Speaker 1: There's a ton of these that we know about one
- 8:20Speaker 1: way or another by Blondie, which those lyrics deserve another look. Okay,
- 8:24Speaker 1: check those out. Another listen Every Breath You Take by
- 8:27Speaker 1: the Police. That's not even worth mentioning, it's so overplayed.
- 8:31Speaker 1: But check out Tom Jones is Delilah all right? Where
- 8:34Speaker 1: the pov from the singer and the song is about
- 8:36Speaker 1: murdering a woman for literally murdering a woman for being
- 8:39Speaker 1: with someone else, Tom Jones, I didn't know you had it?
- 8:42Speaker 1: Inya one more here, okay, And this is this is
- 8:46Speaker 1: a great song with or without the obsession context. Here
- 8:51Speaker 1: Frankie tear Drop by Suicide. Great, great, great song and
- 8:55Speaker 1: super creepy. Now it's it's more of a modern murder ballad.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Then it is a song about obsession, but it's got
- 9:03Speaker 1: a lot of obsession in it, and it's just damn good.
- 9:06Speaker 1: And if you don't know the song, it is a
- 9:08Speaker 1: great introduction into one of the coolest bands to ever do,
- 9:11Speaker 1: a band who influenced everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Radiohead. Okay,
- 9:16Speaker 1: actually this is reminded me of one more song about obsession.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I mentioned murder ballad, So Knoxville Girl by Louvin Brothers
- 9:22Speaker 1: is a murder ballad and it is clearly about obsession.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Lots of versions of Knoxville Girl, including one by the Lemonheads,
- 9:29Speaker 1: but the Luvin Brothers is the best version. Knoxville Girl
- 9:32Speaker 1: might be the song that got me into country music
- 9:34Speaker 1: and superstoke my love for music and crime. It's the
- 9:38Speaker 1: story of one man being obsessed with a woman and
- 9:40Speaker 1: not being able to deal in Well. I don't want
- 9:43Speaker 1: to spoil it for you, but go check it out.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Go listen to Knoxville Girl and listen to the Louvin
- 9:47Speaker 1: Brothers version of it. All right, l ou Vin Luvin
- 9:50Speaker 1: And speaking of the Lemonheads, their new single it's really
- 9:53Speaker 1: fucking good. It's called Deep End. Jam Ascus and Juliana
- 9:56Speaker 1: Hatfield are on the track and it rocks. It's fantastic.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Can't wait for the full album. Dando bring it all right.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Thank you b Yorke for sending us down this obsession
- 10:05Speaker 1: rabbit hole. Check out the Buyorick episode if you haven't
- 10:08Speaker 1: already released it just this week. Also this week, we've
- 10:13Speaker 1: got our Rewind episode coming up next right after this episode,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and that's on Amy Winehouse speaking of obsession, Blake Fielder,
- 10:19Speaker 1: Much Amy. And then next week we've got our new
- 10:21Speaker 1: episode on the Who coming No Obsession here. This is
- 10:24Speaker 1: a part two of sorts. It's a continuation of the
- 10:27Speaker 1: Who story that we started a while ago that's centered
- 10:30Speaker 1: around Keith Moon. Part two episode deals with the Riverfront
- 10:34Speaker 1: Colisseum tragedy, commonly referred to by mistake as a stampede.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It was not a stampede. You have to listen to
- 10:41Speaker 1: hear what I'm talking about and hear what this actually was.
- 10:44Speaker 1: But when you're listening to the Who episode, be thinking
- 10:47Speaker 1: about all the tragedies that we've talked about from rock
- 10:49Speaker 1: and roll history. We've talked about a lot of them,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and let me know or anyone can be any rock
- 10:54Speaker 1: and roll tragedy even once we haven't talked about, And
- 10:56Speaker 1: let me know if the Who Riverfront tragedy is the
- 10:59Speaker 1: worst rock and roll tragedy and music history, and if not,
- 11:02Speaker 1: what is all right? We could do a whole season
- 11:04Speaker 1: on this I'm not going to, but it's interesting to
- 11:06Speaker 1: talk about because the details are often horrific and just
- 11:10Speaker 1: very vivid and great for storytelling. So call me with
- 11:13Speaker 1: your answers or text them enemy six one seventy nine
- 11:16Speaker 1: oh six six sixty three eight. You might hear your
- 11:19Speaker 1: voice and or your answer on next week's Bonus after
- 11:22Speaker 1: Party episode. You can also DM me your answers to
- 11:24Speaker 1: the question of the Week at Disgrace Lam Pod on
- 11:26Speaker 1: the Socials. Man, I got this song on my fucking
- 11:29Speaker 1: head right now.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Gotta he gottah da dada be wa a a do
- 11:36Speaker 2: do a d d d do do doom bob da
- 11:42Speaker 2: da bab du do do doom ba do do.
- 11:46Speaker 1: What is that? What is that song? It sounds like
- 11:48Speaker 1: a friggin ninety sitcom? What is that? What is that song?
- 11:53Speaker 1: I don't hate it, but something tells me I hated
- 11:55Speaker 1: it a long time ago. Let me know what I'm
- 11:57Speaker 1: thinking about. All right, I gotta take a quick break.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I need a drink. Clearly you can probably hear it
- 12:00Speaker 1: in my voice and I will be back in a
- 12:02Speaker 1: flash with answers to your questions on the Question of
- 12:05Speaker 1: the week. Last week regarding Adie Bandy Byorke and we
- 12:09Speaker 1: will have your voicemails, your calls, your DMS emails and more.
- 12:12Speaker 4: I'll be back in a flash.
- 12:31Speaker 1: All right, I'm back. Listen Apple podcast listeners, do me
- 12:34Speaker 1: a favor, all right. Make sure go into the app.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Make sure you get auto downloads turned on.
- 12:39Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:39Speaker 1: That's going to ensure that you get all of our
- 12:41Speaker 1: episodes delivered. You don't miss anything, all right. Sly Stone
- 12:47Speaker 1: died this week. Just a real bummer. Sly Stone was
- 12:50Speaker 1: an amazing artist, of course, a revolutionary artist, one of
- 12:53Speaker 1: the greatest artists in my estimation, to come out of
- 12:56Speaker 1: the so called peace and love generation. Whatever you want
- 12:59Speaker 1: to refor to do it as. Sly of course had
- 13:02Speaker 1: his demons well documented in our Disgrace and episode. But
- 13:06Speaker 1: Sly also shows up in a couple other episodes. Our
- 13:08Speaker 1: Woodstock episode, our WHO episode, the first WHO episode. That's
- 13:13Speaker 1: because the Sly and the family Stone performance at Woodstock
- 13:17Speaker 1: is the best performance at Woodstock. They went on super
- 13:21Speaker 1: late and they just completely tore it up, owned the crowd,
- 13:25Speaker 1: just incredible. Sly also shows up in one of our
- 13:29Speaker 1: Fleetwood Mac episodes. I believe it's the one I believe
- 13:32Speaker 1: it's part two when we get into the recording of rumors.
- 13:35Speaker 1: If memory serves Lindsey Buckingham, they went up to I
- 13:39Speaker 1: believe it's in Salsilito. Is that where sly had a studio,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm not sure. Somewhere in northern California, and sly had
- 13:45Speaker 1: built this pit in the studio where he could lounge
- 13:49Speaker 1: and listen to music and record. And there are all
- 13:51Speaker 1: these kind of weird little additions to the studio that
- 13:54Speaker 1: sly had made that were sort of to I don't know,
- 13:57Speaker 1: enhance his state of mind, so to speak. Regardless of
- 14:01Speaker 1: disgrace and regardless of anything we do here, of course,
- 14:05Speaker 1: sly Stone is one of the greatest to do it ever,
- 14:08Speaker 1: and he's left a tremendous legacy of music behind sly
- 14:11Speaker 1: Stone Rest in peace. Six one seven nine oh six,
- 14:16Speaker 1: six six three eight. Hanging on the telephone with you
- 14:18Speaker 1: guys every week. I'm in the phone booth, the same one.
- 14:21Speaker 1: It's the one across the hall, hanging on the telephone.
- 14:24Speaker 1: You want to send me a voicemail, you want to
- 14:25Speaker 1: send me a text us check out Eric, Eric, Eric,
- 14:30Speaker 1: where you're at Eric? In the eight oh five, Hey.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Jay, Eric from uh oh, California, now in Tennessee. Love
- 14:39Speaker 3: for your show, just listening to the Marilyn Manson episode
- 14:45Speaker 3: Love his first three albums. Knew about his uh accusations
- 14:53Speaker 3: and weirdness, But after listening to your episode, Oh my god,
- 14:58Speaker 3: oh my god, I don't know if I could listen
- 15:01Speaker 3: to his music anymore.
- 15:02Speaker 1: At uh.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, just.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Uh wow, uh yeah. Eric, sounds like we fucked you
- 15:14Speaker 1: up with that Marilyn Manson episode. Um, you know, take
- 15:18Speaker 1: some time, take some long baths, you know, clean yourself off,
- 15:24Speaker 1: get all that Manson filth Offia. You might be able
- 15:26Speaker 1: to come back to the music. Maybe perhaps we shall see.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Thanks for the call, Eric, All right, let's check out
- 15:34Speaker 1: Chips in the three oh three.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Yo. This is Chips from the three oh three, your friendly
- 15:39Speaker 3: neighborhood janitor scrubbing floors. You're asking about crimey books a
- 15:46Speaker 3: few weeks ago. I'm really behind on Bones episodes. I'm
- 15:49Speaker 3: trying to catch up right now. But uh, you asked
- 15:53Speaker 3: for a few, I only got one. Maybe I've been
- 15:56Speaker 3: reading books with my lady just outside on the porch
- 15:59Speaker 3: while smoking or et cetera. And The Lovely Bones is
- 16:07Speaker 3: a really good book about I mean it's told from
- 16:11Speaker 3: the perspective of a dead girl, so it's very existential
- 16:15Speaker 3: and kind of crimey. I wouldn't say deeply crimy, but
- 16:19Speaker 3: I mean the the whole story revolves around the crime
- 16:26Speaker 3: that was committed on her when she died. And it's
- 16:29Speaker 3: it's super cool, super emotional, a little bit hampy. Honestly,
- 16:34Speaker 3: some parts of it can be like h but it
- 16:38Speaker 3: really grips you hold and got a good narrative. Anyway,
- 16:42Speaker 3: check it out.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Goodbye, Chips, Thanks for the call. Appreciate you man, Appreciate
- 16:49Speaker 1: you listen to us while out there scrubbing the floor
- 16:51Speaker 1: is doing the hard work. I had that job once
- 16:53Speaker 1: as a young man, back when I was in a band,
- 16:56Speaker 1: so I know the sweat and the elbow grease and yea.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I love that we're in your ears while you're working.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Someone's recommended this book before The Lovely Bones, and what
- 17:07Speaker 1: I love about how you set it up is it's
- 17:10Speaker 1: a great what if. You know, it's sort of I
- 17:13Speaker 1: heard someone say once that to write a great book
- 17:16Speaker 1: you have to start with what if, and it has
- 17:19Speaker 1: to be this like really insane thing. What if the
- 17:22Speaker 1: dead person told the story of their murder. You know
- 17:25Speaker 1: what I mean. It's a good It's it's good. So
- 17:27Speaker 1: I'm intrigued, so I appreciate it. Chips six one seven
- 17:29Speaker 1: nine or six six six three, You guys want to
- 17:31Speaker 1: leave me a voicemail, give me a call. We can
- 17:33Speaker 1: talk about anything. We can talk about Marilyn Manson. We
- 17:35Speaker 1: can talk about b York. We can talk about the
- 17:37Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Pirates, we can talk about the Philadelphia Phillies, which
- 17:40Speaker 1: I don't understand why this is coming in, but hey
- 17:42Speaker 1: says from the eight oh three here, as a long
- 17:45Speaker 1: suffering Phillies fan, I feel your pain with the Red Sox.
- 17:48Speaker 1: All right, slow down, long suffering Phillies fan. Did you
- 17:52Speaker 1: guys win the World Series a couple of years ago?
- 17:54Speaker 1: Aren't you in the playoffs? Like every fricking year. I
- 17:57Speaker 1: don't know how the Phillies are doing this year? As
- 18:00Speaker 1: bad as the Pirates, probably not as bad as the
- 18:01Speaker 1: Red Sox either. They were doing pretty damn good last
- 18:03Speaker 1: I checked, which was I don't know three four weeks ago,
- 18:06Speaker 1: eight or three. Goes on to recommend some you know
- 18:09Speaker 1: some what is it? It's like it's basically like a
- 18:12Speaker 1: Red Sox snuff film. It's about Game seven eighty six.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I'm good. I'm good eight oh three. My man Ish
- 18:20Speaker 1: from the seven eighty to one Massachusetts. Hey, man, it's Ish,
- 18:23Speaker 1: hope all as well. Figured i'd share so much intrigue.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It's a nineteen seventy nine World champion Pittsburgh Pirates hat.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Did you guys hear two after parties ago? For all
- 18:32Speaker 1: the Pirates fans out there two after parties ago, I
- 18:36Speaker 1: were very astute. Producer Matt Boden At the end of
- 18:40Speaker 1: the episode, the very end, after I read the billboard charts,
- 18:45Speaker 1: Matt played a little bit of Pirate's history. Now I
- 18:48Speaker 1: heard it, and I meant to ask Matt what the
- 18:52Speaker 1: hell that was, because I had no idea and that
- 18:55Speaker 1: is space and I forgot about it and he brought
- 18:57Speaker 1: it up.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Hey.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I wonder if any Pirates fans heard that and figured
- 19:01Speaker 1: it out, and none of you did. All you guys
- 19:03Speaker 1: are sending me in pictures of your hats like Ish
- 19:05Speaker 1: here with this nineteen seventy nine World Championships Pittsburgh Pirates
- 19:09Speaker 1: T shirt with the pillbox Pirates hat on it, Pictures
- 19:13Speaker 1: of Riverfront whatever the hell that stadium is called? Is
- 19:16Speaker 1: that what it's called pack Son. What's it called Tupac Stadium,
- 19:19Speaker 1: Tupac Shakira Stadium in Pittsburgh. But no one picked up
- 19:23Speaker 1: on that little bit of Pirate's history that we had
- 19:26Speaker 1: in the after party. For you guys, go back and
- 19:28Speaker 1: listen two after parties you go. I believe it's the one,
- 19:31Speaker 1: the after party that came right after the Gogs episode
- 19:33Speaker 1: nine to two to zero writes in Hey, I saw
- 19:35Speaker 1: nine inch Nails Downward Spiral tour with Manson in the
- 19:38Speaker 1: Jim Rose Circus. Look into the Jim Row Circus, man,
- 19:42Speaker 1: you don't need to tell me to look into the
- 19:43Speaker 1: gym Ro circus. I saw the Jim Ro Circus as well.
- 19:46Speaker 1: First Lollapalooza. Manson writes about that tour in the book
- 19:51Speaker 1: all Right, eight O eight Texan. In regards to this
- 19:54Speaker 1: list that we talked about in the bonus section of
- 19:57Speaker 1: last week's after Party, we talked about it was the
- 20:00Speaker 1: list we found of the worst bands of the nineties.
- 20:02Speaker 1: It was a very interesting list for a bunch of reasons,
- 20:05Speaker 1: and one of them I don't totally agree with Ata
- 20:09Speaker 1: eight here, but eight O Wait is saying, in regard
- 20:11Speaker 1: to the worst bands of the nineties. I'll be one
- 20:14Speaker 1: to say I like music from all those bands and
- 20:16Speaker 1: still listen to this day. This list just reflects how
- 20:20Speaker 1: awesome the nineties were. If that's the worst, and that's
- 20:24Speaker 1: a damn good point. Shane from the eight one to
- 20:26Speaker 1: six where it said, Hey, Jacob Shane from the eight
- 20:28Speaker 1: one to six, worst band of the nineties as well
- 20:30Speaker 1: as the two thousands and even the eighties is fucking ICP,
- 20:34Speaker 1: hands down the worst shit ever. All caps eight one
- 20:40Speaker 1: six has really worked up about ICP. I'm assuming ICP
- 20:43Speaker 1: is insane clown Posse. Was insane clown posse around in
- 20:46Speaker 1: the eighties. We need to do an insane clown Posse episode.
- 20:50Speaker 1: That's one of those subjects I'm not very familiar with,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and I'm kind of afraid of what the research is
- 20:57Speaker 1: going to do to me, but I'm here for it.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You guys want to hit me up on voicemail, on text,
- 21:04Speaker 1: hit me about anything you want to talk about, Insane
- 21:06Speaker 1: clown Posse, Pittsburgh pirates, true crime, thrillers, novels. All right,
- 21:13Speaker 1: Allen rights in and that's a Llyn at disgrace landpod
- 21:18Speaker 1: on Instagram. Hey Allen from the six one nine. I've
- 21:21Speaker 1: been a Disgrayland fans since the very beginning, turning everyone
- 21:23Speaker 1: I know out of your greatness. I grew up in
- 21:25Speaker 1: Bakersfield but now live in San Diego. In a while back,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I was driving up to visit my parents who still
- 21:31Speaker 1: live there, and figured it would be the perfect time
- 21:33Speaker 1: to re listen to your Merle Haggard episode. I thought
- 21:36Speaker 1: I'd have to dig through the archives, but wouldn't you know,
- 21:38Speaker 1: it was that week's rewind episode and there it was,
- 21:41Speaker 1: at the top of the Disgraceland feed. I timed it
- 21:43Speaker 1: perfectly as I hit play coming out of the mountains
- 21:46Speaker 1: on the ninety nine Freeway transition at the base of
- 21:48Speaker 1: the Grapevine for the final forty minute stretch. It ended
- 21:51Speaker 1: right when I pulled up to their house, which happens
- 21:53Speaker 1: to be right next to Merle's old part of town
- 21:56Speaker 1: in Oildale. I took a screenshot on my phone to
- 21:59Speaker 1: commemorate the and then he includes the screenshot here in
- 22:03Speaker 1: the DM and I think that's damn cool, Alan, very cool. Guys.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Want to hit me up about where you listen to
- 22:10Speaker 1: Disgrace Slam, Go ahead, you can do that on Instagram.
- 22:13Speaker 1: You can do that six one seven nine O six
- 22:15Speaker 1: six six three eight by voicemail or text. I'm around
- 22:18Speaker 1: and I'm looking forward to talking. What I don't want
- 22:21Speaker 1: to talk about, though, is the Red Sox. But I
- 22:23Speaker 1: gotta do it. Just a little Matt, give you that,
- 22:24Speaker 1: give me the ticker. Here comes, here comes, it comes
- 22:26Speaker 1: to sports ran a little thirty second sports rant. Now, listen,
- 22:29Speaker 1: the Red Sox took two out of three from the Yankees.
- 22:32Speaker 1: This is just to tease people. This isn't real. This
- 22:36Speaker 1: is a sugar high. This is They're not a good team. Okay,
- 22:40Speaker 1: as much as it pains me to say that, they're
- 22:42Speaker 1: not a good team. And you know how I know
- 22:45Speaker 1: that because Raffie Devers is still on the team. And
- 22:48Speaker 1: you know why I'm saying that because I don't like
- 22:49Speaker 1: Raffi Devers. I think the guy, you know, I know,
- 22:52Speaker 1: he hit a monster shot against the Yankees, home run,
- 22:54Speaker 1: but you know what, he hit it after he dogged
- 22:56Speaker 1: it to first base. He could have run that out.
- 22:59Speaker 1: He could have easily had a hit. But no, no,
- 23:02Speaker 1: it's just it's indicative of his overall selfish, bullshit play.
- 23:08Speaker 1: If the guy would just fucking play first base. So
- 23:12Speaker 1: many of our problems would be solved. That's it, Bud.
- 23:14Speaker 1: He won't and we're screwed because we don't have good leadership.
- 23:17Speaker 1: And what can I say, the Red Sox, it's like
- 23:19Speaker 1: the nineteen eighties now worse than that early nineties. That's
- 23:25Speaker 1: what we're dealing with here. It's a bunch of bullshit.
- 23:28Speaker 1: It's got to change. Help me change it. Don't make
- 23:30Speaker 1: me a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, please please. I'm rooting for
- 23:34Speaker 1: the Mets. I'm putting all my energy in a rooting
- 23:36Speaker 1: for the Mets right now. I say that, but I'm not.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I haven't watched a Mets game since the last time
- 23:40Speaker 1: we talked. But I don't know, man, I don't the
- 23:44Speaker 1: Red Sox. All Right, I gotta stop talking. I'll be
- 23:49Speaker 1: back in the flash with your talking to your emails
- 23:52Speaker 1: and a little bit of a Hollywood man.
- 24:03Speaker 4: All Right, we are back, and you know what time
- 24:05Speaker 4: it is.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It's time for the hollywood Land Minute, brought to you
- 24:08Speaker 1: by the Hollywood Land Podcast. Yes, exciting news. I know
- 24:14Speaker 1: I brought to you last week, but I'm gonna bring
- 24:16Speaker 1: it to you again this week because I'm getting the
- 24:17Speaker 1: message out. Okay, I'm staying on message. We added bonus
- 24:20Speaker 1: episodes to Hollywood Land the Rap Party, and they're not
- 24:24Speaker 1: the same as the after Party. These are different. This
- 24:26Speaker 1: is me and My Man's Death sitting there every week
- 24:28Speaker 1: chopping it up, talking about that episode, but also talking
- 24:31Speaker 1: about our recommendations, what we're getting into as it relates
- 24:36Speaker 1: to that hollywood Land subject. This week we got into
- 24:40Speaker 1: John Belushi. Now, if you don't know what hollywood Land is,
- 24:42Speaker 1: it's Hollywood and true crime. It's very similar to Disgraceland.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I host the shows. The bonus episodes, however, are co hosted,
- 24:49Speaker 1: like I just said by myself in My Man's Death.
- 24:52Speaker 1: We have a ton of episodes in the archive, episodes
- 24:55Speaker 1: on Drew Barrymore, John Waters, David Lynch, Jack Nicholson. Just
- 24:59Speaker 1: this week we got our John Belushi episode in the feed.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Check that out. We're gonna have a new bonus episode
- 25:05Speaker 1: coming up. We're talking about I'm talking about anyways, music
- 25:09Speaker 1: that John Belushi inspired me to listen to. Zeth goes
- 25:13Speaker 1: into a bunch of sort of great big Man comics
- 25:16Speaker 1: and big Man stars from the past, and we get
- 25:19Speaker 1: into the Blushi episode as well. Check this out go
- 25:21Speaker 1: subscribe to Hollywood Land if you're not already, here's a
- 25:24Speaker 1: little taste of what I'm talking about. We may or
- 25:28Speaker 1: may not know. I don't know how many of you
- 25:30Speaker 1: know this, but in the early eighties, Fear, the punk band,
- 25:33Speaker 1: played on SML. Right, Zeth, you're well aware of this.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and Belushi was responsible for getting Fear the
- 25:41Speaker 1: gig and complete mayhem erupted when they played. All these
- 25:45Speaker 1: kids started slam dancing. Now you gotta think, this is
- 25:47Speaker 1: like Zeth. What year is this, like eighty one something
- 25:50Speaker 1: like that, so early. Yeah, of your TV viewing audience
- 25:54Speaker 1: at home and never seen shit like that before, So
- 25:57Speaker 1: I thought I would, you know, for those of you
- 26:00Speaker 1: who are interested in hardcore, this is a great introduction
- 26:03Speaker 1: Visa v John Belushi. And there's if you want to
- 26:07Speaker 1: hear some of the music made by the kids in
- 26:08Speaker 1: that crowd, the New York harcore compilation on Revelation Records
- 26:11Speaker 1: that came out and I believe nineteen eighty nine, perhaps
- 26:15Speaker 1: eighty eight. It's called Where the Wild Things Are. It's
- 26:17Speaker 1: a New York hardcore comp grab that. There's also this
- 26:21Speaker 1: book Zeth. You can see if it's a book of photographs.
- 26:23Speaker 1: If you're interested in the DC hardcore end of the spectrum,
- 26:27Speaker 1: this is called bandon DC Photos and anecdotes from the
- 26:30Speaker 1: DC Punk Underground nineteen seventy ninety eighty five. But these
- 26:33Speaker 1: photos are amazing at HR from the bad brains there
- 26:36Speaker 1: on the pod, Cole, a bunch of these kids. We're
- 26:38Speaker 1: in the SNL audience, rubbing shoulders up with John Belushi.
- 26:43Speaker 1: All right, there you go. That's a little bit of Hollywood.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I go subscribe to the Hollywood Lamp podcast wherever you
- 26:47Speaker 1: get podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, whichever app you're into. iHeart Amazon, Wondering,
- 26:52Speaker 1: go get it. As you just heard there, we had
- 26:55Speaker 1: a little bit of the recommendations I love the recommendations piece.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I love talking Rex. You guys, give me your Rex.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Gonna be doing a little bit more of that in
- 27:03Speaker 1: the bonus section of this episode. This here after Party,
- 27:06Speaker 1: you're gonna be talking about books, little film, little little film,
- 27:10Speaker 1: little TV. Gonna get into it. I'm psyched. But if
- 27:13Speaker 1: you're not a Disgraceland All Access member, you're going to
- 27:16Speaker 1: miss out on this. So those of you who don't know,
- 27:18Speaker 1: five bucks a month you get all Access membership you

- 27:25Speaker 1: hollywood Land episodes. Now you're also going to get one
- 27:30Speaker 1: additional full episode per month. Go to disgrace lampod dot

- 27:46Speaker 1: those conversations. Disgrace lampod at gmail dot com. This email
- 27:51Speaker 1: comes from Alphie mctigue, subject niche punk bands under the Radar.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Hi there, I'm Alfie here in England, borne Mouth. I
- 28:02Speaker 1: know I'm not pronouncing that correctly. It's spelled b o
- 28:04Speaker 1: u r n E m o u t h. I
- 28:08Speaker 1: apologize for butchering the name of the town you're from, Alfie.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Alfie goes on to say live here in England specifically,
- 28:15Speaker 1: and was curious to whether you could look into some
- 28:17Speaker 1: bands that have fallen into some obscurity over the years,
- 28:20Speaker 1: the Mighty Muddy Bostones, Agent Orange and Sloppy Seconds. I
- 28:25Speaker 1: know the Bostones are very well known in the US,
- 28:27Speaker 1: but not so much in the UK. Well, I'm from
- 28:29Speaker 1: Boston there, Alfi, so they're, you know, very well known
- 28:32Speaker 1: to me. I've know some of those guys. I'm friends
- 28:34Speaker 1: with a couple of them. I first saw the Mighty
- 28:36Speaker 1: Mighty Bostones play Alfie when I was sixteen years old
- 28:39Speaker 1: at the Worcester Artist Group. My band cast Iron Hike
- 28:43Speaker 1: was lucky enough to play with the Bostones numerous times.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I even had another band, I think when I was
- 28:48Speaker 1: in a band called the Whitey Bulgers, or maybe it
- 28:50Speaker 1: was a confidence man. I think we played with the
- 28:52Speaker 1: Bostones as well. Just the best fucking dudes. No crimes
- 28:58Speaker 1: there though, so I don't know. I don't think there's
- 29:00Speaker 1: a Bostones episode coming anytime soon, but I'm happy to
- 29:03Speaker 1: talk to you about them on the side here. You
- 29:05Speaker 1: want to keep emailing me Agent Orange and Sloppy Seconds,
- 29:07Speaker 1: I don't know much about but I will check into it.
- 29:09Speaker 1: And if you, Alfie, know of any crimes related to
- 29:11Speaker 1: those two bands you want me to look into, that
- 29:13Speaker 1: can kind of write a story around. Hit me back up.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Disgrace Lampod at gmail dot com. Guys, this episode is

- 30:08Speaker 1: I mentioned just sort of bring attention to some of
- 30:11Speaker 1: the artists we've talked about already in this episode, and
- 30:14Speaker 1: if we've done episodes on them in the past, and
- 30:16Speaker 1: we have, there's a whole bunch a couple of them.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana. We got two episodes on Nirvana. We've
- 30:21Speaker 1: got a great episode on Pantera. There's a Blondie episode.
- 30:24Speaker 1: No suicide episode yet, but maybe someday there will be.
- 30:28Speaker 1: All right, let's recap. I got a lot to do today.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Still I'm leaving them arow. I'm going a little vacation,
- 30:33Speaker 1: recording this episode a little early. It's still gonna pack tonight.
