- 0:00SPEAKER_00: On the path to become a mastermind, one of the most important things is your pursuit for knowledge.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: And my favorite way to gain more knowledge is to read books.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Today I'm going to break down one of my favorite books ever, which happens to be Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: He explains in a nutshell that success isn't built on luck, but by the habits that people, successful people, do every single day.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: So to be successful, you need to make sure you embody these habits.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Let's start with the first one, which is be proactive.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: This habit is a personal favorite because it talks about personal responsibility.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Instead of assigning blame to other people, you rather take ownership of everything in your life.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Understand that only you can make a difference.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: It talks beautifully about the circle of concern versus the circle of influence.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: So many people have things that they are concerned about, the taxes, the weather, the government, you know, the bad roads.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: But all these are things you can't actually change.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: You are on social media watching a war in another country that you are never going to visit, and you are spending four hours thinking about it.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: But you have no power to change it.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Instead, you need to focus your attention on your circle of influence, the things that you can do something about, the things you have real influence over, like learning a new skill, learning how to talk to your coworker to get them to do what you want them to do.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Grow in yourself, when you handle the things that you can control effectively, you start to grow, and then you can slowly affect the things in your circle of concern.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So be proactive, take responsibility, and change your life.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: The second habit is that successful people begin with the end in mind.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Before they start any journey, before they get on any path, before they do anything, they look at the end results for what they are looking for.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: They don't just jump in and now say, what are we going to do next?
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: They know the end before they start the beginning.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: So let me give you a small exercise that you can do.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Write your elegy.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Imagine right now that it's your funeral and you are being celebrated for your life.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Write down what you want them to say about you.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Do you want them to say he was a responsible father, a strong leader, a kind and generous man, a wealthy, intelligent man?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: List who you want them to describe you as.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: When you have that down, start to embody that description.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Start to become the person that you want to end as.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: If you want to be remembered as kind, start to share.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: If you want to be remembered as a strong leader, start to lead today.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Doesn't matter who.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Lead that boy in your neighborhood who is looking for a mentor.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Begin with the end in mind.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: You need to set your destination before you start the journey.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: The third habit of successful people is they put first things first.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: So many of us are what we call busybody.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: People are working hard every day, but they amount to nothing.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And that is because they are working on the wrong things.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: He explains the Eisenhower matrix, which is a perfect way to handle your time management.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: The first thing is you need to understand the power of leverage.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So leverage, if you remember when they teach you this in science, a lever is something which gives you the power to do more than you are capable of.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So a leverage task is any task that makes it easier for you to do other tasks.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: In knowing what to do first, you need to decide the important things in your life.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: You know everybody and what's important to them.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: The fact that this is important to Kojo does not mean it's important to Amma.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Maybe Kojo is at that stage of his life where that means something to him, and Amma isn't.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: So Amma shouldn't just copy Kojo.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: It's like you can't watch a podcast.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: The podcast is talking about financial growth and everything, and you hear them talking about investing and cryptocurrency and everything.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Yet you owe loans.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: You've not finished paying off your own your loans and you want to take money and go and invest.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: No, what's important at your level is pay off your loans.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: So to be able to understand this properly, you have to have a system that you follow.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: You identify what is important, what is urgent, what is not important, what is not urgent.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Every task that you do is either one of these four situations.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: It's either important and urgent, important, not urgent, not important, urgent, and not important, not urgent.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: You have to become the kind of person whose tasks mostly fall in important, not urgent.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Because that means you are doing things ahead of time that means something to you.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: It reduces anxiety, it makes you a better planner, it makes you much more efficient.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: When you are operating in important urgent, that means you are in crisis mode all the time.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: And even though it may feel like you are doing important things, you won't get the best result because you are always anxious, you're always on the go, always in a rush.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: And that kind of person only survives, they don't thrive.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: So put first things first.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Look at what means a lot to you, plan it, schedule it, get it done in advance.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: The fourth habit is think win-win.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: I see so many people get this wrong in negotiations, in building businesses, in taking jobs, whatever they're doing, they think win-lose.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Most people walk into a room and they are only asking themselves, what is in this for me?
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: How do I get the most out of this?
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: How do I squeeze this person the most?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Now the truth is, in a win-lose situation, eventually that relationship breaks.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: We have symbiosis.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: It can either be mutualism, which means you are both benefiting, commensalism, which means only one is benefiting and the other is not affected in any way, or parasitism, which means one wins and the other loses, and nobody keeps a parasite around them for too long.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: So if you just want to be able to get a quick win and lose in the long term, go for win-lose.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Do a fast scam, you know, pull one over somebody's eyes.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: It won't last long, but you will just get ahead for a very short time.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: But if you really want to benefit over a long period of time, always ask how do we both benefit from this?
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: When you are negotiating, you are negotiating with a delivery man, with a truck driver, you're negotiating as you're buying ice cream, whatever it is.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Ask yourself, how do I spend the least money so that I win?
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: But how does he also make the most money so his business also wins?
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: You need to make every negotiation end in a win-win situation.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: That is how truly successful people win.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: The fifth habit is a very difficult one for most people.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Seek to understand before being understood.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: I see it all the time.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Two people are having an argument, and each of them is just waiting for the other to stop talking so they can give their point.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: They are not actually listening to what the person is saying.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Before you try to be understood, you have to ask yourself, do I understand what this person is saying to me?
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Do I understand where this person is coming from?
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Every action people take has a logical reason behind it.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Unless the person is insane, they have a logical reason behind it.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: So if you don't agree with what somebody is doing, it probably means you don't understand their reason.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: So before you walk into a room and try to get everybody to see things your way and do things your way, you have to understand this person.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: I mentioned a win-win situation.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: You can't have a win-win situation if you don't understand what somebody is looking to gain from this negotiation.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: You have to be empathetic.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: You have to think from the person's point of view.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: What will benefit this guy?
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: What will benefit this girl?
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: What do they truly want out of this?
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: The Cho Tra driver is driving too fast.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Why is he driving so fast?
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, he wants to make maximum sales so that he can afford to pay his kids' school fees.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Okay, I understand him.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: So what can I do to help him?
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Because that's not my goal.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: But now that I understand his goal, what can I do to help him get his goal so that I can also get my goal?
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Alternatively, okay, I understand why he's doing that.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: And it's not going to change because it's important to him.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: But since my safety is important to me, I will not take that car so that I am safe.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: When you understand people, you are able to take better actions.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: You know, Mel Robbins talks about this perfectly when she explains the let them theory, where you allow people to be.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Because when you allow people to be who they are, you get the chance to understand them and make a better decision now that you know what their true goal is.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: So seek to understand before being understood.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: The sixth habit is synergize.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Collaboration is one of the most important things in massive success.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: If you want to go fast, go alone.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: If you want to go far, go with a team.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: You need to make sure that you are surrounded by the right people who have the right mindset, you have a shared goal, and you build something together.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Because most of the great achievements, most of the great feats that you are looking for cannot be done by one person.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: If it could be done by one person, it wasn't going to be great in the first place.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: So you need to look for that synergy.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Build your team, build your following, build your cult, build your community, like-minded people that can all achieve a goal.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: For instance, I'm saying I want everyone watching this to become a mastermind.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: I can't do that alone.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: First of all, there's a team that's putting all this together.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Filming this, taking the audio, building the set, doing research for me, putting it out there.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: I need a team to do this efficiently.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: But it goes further than that.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Without you, the community that is watching me, learning from me, giving me input, letting me know in the comments what they want to hear next time and everything, this goal of turning our community into masterminds is not possible.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: So instead of trying so hard to be selfish and looking for only your benefits, think like a community, synergize and move with the team.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Now the seventh habit is to sharpen the saw.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: You know, when you have a tool, when you are working hard and your saw is no longer cutting through the wood, do you spend more time trying to cut through the wood with the saw, hoping that it will suddenly become better?
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Or do you go back and sharpen the saw to be more efficient?
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: Sharpening the saw is about building your skills.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Read, learn, research, ask questions, watch podcasts, take a mentor.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter what stage you are what stage you are in in your life, you can always get a mentor because wherever you want to go next, there's somebody who's been there before.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Ask them how they did it.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: And the truth is, most successful people want to share.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Almost every successful person wants to share.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: So you can just walk up to somebody right now, walk up to a millionaire, walk up to that businessman, that CEO respect, and instead of saying something small for the boys, ask them a question on how did you do this?
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: What disciplines did you have that got you here?
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: What habits did you embody that made you who you are today?
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: What did you do wrong that if you could do things again, you would never do that way?
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Grow, learn, sharpen your skills.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: That is the true way to become a mastermind.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: You have to be obsessed with self-development.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: You wake up in the morning, you're thinking, what can I do better today?
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Learn from your past mistakes.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: If you are not growing, you are retrogressing.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: So sharpen your soul.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: Now let's get practical.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: I always say it's good to have knowledge, but if you don't apply it, there's no use.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: So right now, take it step by step.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Every week, take one of these habits and see how you are going to start embodying this habit, how you are going to better yourself, develop yourself to become the successful person that you know you should be.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Take your time with it.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: You will make mistakes, but failure is only a part of the process.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: If you are able to embody these seven habits, then success is guaranteed.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: It's only a matter of time.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: I hope you truly become the mastermind.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: I know you are meant to be.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
