- 0:00Speaker 1: Scrubbing In with Beca Tilly and Tanya rad and iHeartRadio
- 0:04Speaker 1: and two times People's Choice Award winning podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Hello everybody, we are scrubbing in.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Yes we are, another day another pod.
- 0:20Speaker 4: That's right. You know I'm feeling a little bit lucky today.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Oh tell me more, Mark, do you think there's any
- 0:26Speaker 1: chance in the next ten minutes you could make a
- 0:28Speaker 1: birthday game?
- 0:29Speaker 5: I'm on it, absolutely, I can.
- 0:31Speaker 4: I agree. Wow, what is it?
- 0:34Speaker 3: What? Why are you feeling lucky? Well?
- 0:39Speaker 4: I think it's my May Cause Miracles book.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Oh, I was gonna ask you about that.
- 0:44Speaker 4: It's so good. So what's the what do you what's
- 0:47Speaker 4: the process that's.
- 0:48Speaker 6: The latest miracle?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yeah, well thanks for asking Easton. It's not like about
- 0:54Speaker 1: creating miracles. It's about opening up your space.
- 0:58Speaker 4: To receive them.
- 0:59Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:00Speaker 1: We when we lean into fear, when we lean into
- 1:04Speaker 1: negative self talk, when we leave into lean into like
- 1:08Speaker 1: bad attitudes, when we lean into scarcity mindset, those are
- 1:12Speaker 1: all blockages or miracles. So it's kind of like like,
- 1:16Speaker 1: imagine there's like a spider web in front of you
- 1:18Speaker 1: in life, and I'm just kind of like cleaning out
- 1:20Speaker 1: the spider web.
- 1:21Speaker 4: So I have a clear path.
- 1:23Speaker 2: What are the like, what are the daily tasks to
- 1:27Speaker 2: do that?
- 1:30Speaker 1: Off the top of my head, it's hard to remember,
- 1:32Speaker 1: but like the first they they're in chunks. Each week
- 1:35Speaker 1: is like a different theme, and like the first theme,
- 1:38Speaker 1: the first week was all about like identifying the fears
- 1:40Speaker 1: that I have in my life and then kind of
- 1:43Speaker 1: reverse talking about those fears, like pointing out the positives
- 1:47Speaker 1: and like what could come instead of leaning into like
- 1:49Speaker 1: the fear. One day it was like all about gratitude,
- 1:52Speaker 1: like leaning into gratitude.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So they're weekly, they're daily, other daily, Yeah, but like
- 2:00Speaker 1: every week is like a different kind of like what's
- 2:04Speaker 1: the word.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Oh, okay, gotcha. So that's why you feel you're film
- 2:11Speaker 3: lucky today?
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just like good vibes, good cobsweb cobwebs are
- 2:15Speaker 1: coming down, and.
- 2:16Speaker 3: You major you were throwing paper into.
- 2:17Speaker 1: The towns making buckets earlier. It just like feels like
- 2:21Speaker 1: good vibes.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, all right, Well stay tuned.
- 2:23Speaker 2: We do have some dear Bonio questions to get through
- 2:26Speaker 2: before we play games.
- 2:28Speaker 4: We gotta we gotta my advice hat feels strong.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Oh wow, wow.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Halfways have cleared? Whoa the guru hat?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Is on.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Well, let's jump in.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Here we go from Brook. I have been a single
- 2:40Speaker 5: mom of two young kids for a year and a
- 2:42Speaker 5: half and I have my kids full time, so it's
- 2:44Speaker 5: hard to date. I recently noticed the guy who moved
- 2:47Speaker 5: into a house in our neighborhood and I'm thinking about
- 2:49Speaker 5: approaching him. I'm a pretty reserved and shy person, so
- 2:52Speaker 5: this is out of my comfort zone to approach a man. First.
- 2:55Speaker 5: I wanted to get your thoughts on how to introduce
- 2:56Speaker 5: myself and find out if he's single. I've only seen
- 2:58Speaker 5: him outside a few times our daily family walked. I
- 3:01Speaker 5: thought about leaving him a note in his mailbox. Is
- 3:03Speaker 5: that creepy?
- 3:05Speaker 2: I think personally I would stick to you know when
- 3:09Speaker 2: you run into each other, or you could leave him
- 3:12Speaker 2: like I would say, like a basket of Like okay,
- 3:17Speaker 2: well I would say basket cookies, but like times are
- 3:19Speaker 2: just weird now, but like maybe an unopened bottle of
- 3:22Speaker 2: like champagne or something, say like welcome to the neighborhood,
- 3:25Speaker 2: so that it's friendly but like thoughtful.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Well, we don't know he should recently moved in. I
- 3:30Speaker 1: feel like there is a grace period, like if he
- 3:33Speaker 1: moved in six months ago and she brings him a
- 3:34Speaker 1: bottle of champagne, saying welcome to the neighborhood.
- 3:37Speaker 4: It's a little late, No.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Would just be like, I've been busy with my two kids,
- 3:42Speaker 2: but I wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood. That way,
- 3:44Speaker 2: you just throw it in there that that you're you've
- 3:48Speaker 2: got kids, and you're If he sees you out, he'll
- 3:51Speaker 2: be like, oh, that might be the girl that left
- 3:54Speaker 2: me the champagne.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So I love the note in the mailbox. Personally, I
- 3:59Speaker 1: think you start out with a lot of eye contact.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's really intent.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So during the walks, you give him some eye contact,
- 4:07Speaker 1: you exchanged some pleasantry.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Show me what that would look like for you.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Like you're on a walk and I lock eyes with you.
- 4:16Speaker 4: It's cute, well, smirk eye contact.
- 4:20Speaker 1: So heavy eye contact on your walks, Okay, establish some
- 4:23Speaker 1: sort of pleasantry, some sort of interaction in that way.
- 4:27Speaker 1: After a couple of those, then I say, go into
- 4:29Speaker 1: the mailbox.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Okay, well, because who cares?
- 4:33Speaker 1: If he doesn't like you, he's not going to follow
- 4:35Speaker 1: through with whatever you ask him to do in the mailbox,
- 4:37Speaker 1: No harm, no foul, Who cares?
- 4:39Speaker 2: I think you leave a bottle of champagne, say welcome
- 4:41Speaker 2: to the neighborhood, and then when you see him on
- 4:44Speaker 2: a walk, they like, hey, like, I don't know.
- 4:45Speaker 3: I left you this champagne.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Or maybe he'll say like, hey, did you leave me
- 4:48Speaker 2: the champagne, and then that starts a conversation.
- 4:51Speaker 3: That's what I would do.
- 4:52Speaker 5: How about you this next time you see him outside
- 4:53Speaker 5: of the house, when you're on your walks, you say, Hi, Hi,
- 4:55Speaker 5: you the neighborhood.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Hi.
- 4:57Speaker 5: I just want to let you know I'm brook, I
- 4:59Speaker 5: live right around the corner. Nice to meet you.
- 5:00Speaker 2: She just doesn't know when that time's gonna happen, so
- 5:03Speaker 2: she's trying to expedite that. You my others, my other
- 5:10Speaker 2: thought was just wait till you see him out again.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Keep it simple.
- 5:14Speaker 4: But I have the eye contact can break barriers.
- 5:19Speaker 5: And really weird people out there.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Probably if he is weirded out by some eye contact,
- 5:25Speaker 4: he's not your guy. He's just not.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I would just be really super cool, casual and like.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Hey, we can't all for seed in life being cool
- 5:36Speaker 1: and casual like becatilla. I'm just gonna say that as
- 5:39Speaker 1: a fact. Know all have all people swarming to be
- 5:42Speaker 1: with us. Some of us have to work for it. Okay,
- 5:44Speaker 1: how how was that my life at all?
- 5:47Speaker 4: You had a lot, You.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Had a lot of swarmage in your day before you
- 5:51Speaker 1: were locked up.
- 5:52Speaker 3: That was like ten years ago. Whatever.
- 5:54Speaker 1: They still swarmed you. I was never swarmed. I had
- 5:57Speaker 1: to swarm.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I had to.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I had to the honey I swarm.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, if they're not swarming, you go out and swarm.
- 6:07Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 6:08Speaker 1: So Becca was swarmed and I was the swarmer. There's
- 6:10Speaker 1: two types of people in the world, and I'm by
- 6:13Speaker 1: with Brooke. If she's on my side. You got to
- 6:15Speaker 1: put yourself out there.
- 6:16Speaker 2: All right, Brooke, you have three options. Heavy eye contact
- 6:19Speaker 2: that could break barriers, or put security out. Put the
- 6:23Speaker 2: letter in the mailbox after.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Oh wow, double whammy.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Okay, heavy eye contact plus leather letter in the mailbox.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I say, leave a bottle champagne, Welcome to the neighborhood.
- 6:33Speaker 2: See you around. And then Marcus just wait, wait until
- 6:37Speaker 2: you run into.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Him conversation First, to kind of suss out the situation,
- 6:42Speaker 5: he made something. Oh yeah, I moved out of here. First.
- 6:44Speaker 5: My wife's with the kids back in New Hampshire and
- 6:47Speaker 5: they're coming out here. Like, who knows, get a little
- 6:49Speaker 5: bit of life story first before you make a big
- 6:52Speaker 5: thing that's going to make it super awkward in the future.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I don't think any of these make it. The letter
- 6:56Speaker 3: in the mailbox, what.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Is that you bring him a bottle of champagne?
- 7:02Speaker 2: Oh, well, then you can gift it to someone. Well,
- 7:07Speaker 2: oh was that going to come up in the first conversation?
- 7:09Speaker 6: If then, are you working the steps?
- 7:13Speaker 1: I'm just saying, like a bottle of the alcohol is
- 7:16Speaker 1: a little risky, bottle of milk.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Club soda whatever, milk okay, broke good luck, But I
- 7:24Speaker 2: don't know that we helped you at all. But we
- 7:25Speaker 2: did get three different options, so keep us posted on.
- 7:31Speaker 5: All right, d says, Oh, I'm so yeah. We'll got
- 7:34Speaker 5: one time for one more before we take a break.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Dan's been listening to Scrubbing In since she was sixteen
- 7:39Speaker 5: and just got her license to be a therapist. She's
- 7:41Speaker 5: now twenty four, pursuing a doctorate to become a therapist.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Hearing Beca and Tony each we talking about their lives
- 7:47Speaker 5: and friendship has built me up in so many ways
- 7:49Speaker 5: as a young, confident woman. Wow, my girlfriend and I've
- 7:53Speaker 5: been dating almost six years want to get engaged in
- 7:54Speaker 5: next spring. Wedding planning is tricky because in the six
- 7:57Speaker 5: weeks we've been dating, my girlfriend's parents have expressed how
- 8:00Speaker 5: disapproving they are for religious reasons. They've never acknowledged us
- 8:04Speaker 5: as a couple. They've never had me over to their home.
- 8:06Speaker 5: They've never been invited to family events. I've never been
- 8:08Speaker 5: invited to family events. Talking about our weddings brought about
- 8:11Speaker 5: questions about how we go about the ceremony without her
- 8:13Speaker 5: parents and most of her families. Specifically, how do you
- 8:15Speaker 5: think would be best for us to walk down the aisle?
- 8:18Speaker 5: I always thought I'd be walked down by both of
- 8:19Speaker 5: my parents, but my girlfriend's expressed it that would be
- 8:22Speaker 5: difficult for her because no one and her family would
- 8:24Speaker 5: be willing to walk her down the aisle. Do I
- 8:26Speaker 5: walk alone and risk disappointing my own parents, who are
- 8:29Speaker 5: super supporting and loving. By the way, I'm looking for
- 8:31Speaker 5: creative solutions for walking down the aisle and the wedding
- 8:34Speaker 5: as a whole with her family being unavailable to the idea.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Oh, this is so hard. First of all, you listening
- 8:42Speaker 3: since her sixteen just blew my mind.
- 8:44Speaker 6: And now right now she's engaged. That's insane. Just started
- 8:49Speaker 6: the show last year.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I'm so happy that you have found someone that you
- 8:56Speaker 2: love and want to be with forever. I think navigating
- 9:00Speaker 2: people who are not approving of your relationship, especially family,
- 9:05Speaker 2: is really challenging and difficult, and I don't think that
- 9:09Speaker 2: pain goes away no matter how excited you are to
- 9:14Speaker 2: be with someone and have like a celebration like this.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I think the main thing is the beauty of life
- 9:21Speaker 2: and getting older is getting to find people who are
- 9:24Speaker 2: around you who are your chosen family. And I know
- 9:27Speaker 2: we use that term a lot, but I think those
- 9:29Speaker 2: people that you surround yourself with and that are supportive
- 9:32Speaker 2: and make you feel so loved and seen are so valuable,
- 9:37Speaker 2: and I think that focusing on them is going to
- 9:40Speaker 2: be really important for your or future fiance, future wife.
- 9:46Speaker 2: And I think when it comes to walking down the aisle,
- 9:50Speaker 2: I don't think you should not have your parents walk
- 9:52Speaker 2: you down, because if that's something you've always dreamed of,
- 9:54Speaker 2: I think it's really important for you to get to
- 9:56Speaker 2: have that moment. But maybe your girlfriend or your partner
- 10:00Speaker 2: can find either someone who is like a father figure
- 10:03Speaker 2: or a sibling, or someone who's really special to them
- 10:06Speaker 2: to walk them down the aisle, or maybe your parents.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I would say too to say, I think your parents
- 10:12Speaker 1: should walk both of you down.
- 10:14Speaker 2: The aisle, or maybe one at a time so you
- 10:16Speaker 2: both get your moment. But I think that could be
- 10:18Speaker 2: really special. Since your parents are supportive and they're going
- 10:20Speaker 2: to be her in laws, then getting to like introduce
- 10:24Speaker 2: that dynamic and to the people that are most important
- 10:29Speaker 2: to you, I think is a really could be a
- 10:30Speaker 2: really impactful special moment for them. And to be honest, like,
- 10:34Speaker 2: at the end of the day, her parents are the
- 10:36Speaker 2: ones that are going to have to live with the
- 10:38Speaker 2: fact that they weren't a part of that and that
- 10:41Speaker 2: someone else took on the role to walk their daughter
- 10:43Speaker 2: down the aisle and they missed out on something that
- 10:45Speaker 2: was so beautiful and important. And your partner should be
- 10:49Speaker 2: able to celebrate being loved and being seen by you
- 10:53Speaker 2: and not letting that damper it even though I know
- 10:56Speaker 2: it's like a painful thing.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I wanted to say too, sorry that you guys
- 11:01Speaker 1: are going through that. Yeah, I it just it sucks.
- 11:04Speaker 1: It's super selfish and it's not okay. But I also
- 11:08Speaker 1: had the idea of your parents, like walking one of
- 11:13Speaker 1: you down at a time, like taking one up, leaving
- 11:15Speaker 1: one going back and taking the other end. Because I
- 11:17Speaker 1: do think honoring your parents that way because they've been
- 11:22Speaker 1: so supportive, and I just think that's such a beautiful
- 11:26Speaker 1: way to honor your parents. And then kind of, uh,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't want to say, like
- 11:33Speaker 1: stick it to her parents.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But like I kind of kind of like listen, like
- 11:38Speaker 3: you guys want to be here.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I do have support elsewhere, which is it You
- 11:43Speaker 2: never can replace the feeling of getting support from your
- 11:47Speaker 2: own parents. Like I don't think that's a realistic expectation,
- 11:50Speaker 2: but I do think I don't think it's fair for
- 11:52Speaker 2: you to take away your moment with your parents on
- 11:56Speaker 2: a day that you've probably dreamed of in a moment
- 11:58Speaker 2: you've dreamed of. And I think you're and you have time,
- 12:02Speaker 2: like you're not even engaged yet, so you have time
- 12:05Speaker 2: to kind of figure out what that would look like.
- 12:06Speaker 3: But there are so.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Many people who, even people who are in queer relationships,
- 12:11Speaker 2: who have family dynamics where it doesn't make sense to
- 12:15Speaker 2: have a parent walk them down the aisle or they
- 12:17Speaker 2: walk down alone, and it's going to be so beautiful
- 12:20Speaker 2: either way. And I think just knowing that your partner
- 12:26Speaker 2: is going to your girlfriend is going to have moments
- 12:30Speaker 2: where it feels really sad and heavy and that may
- 12:34Speaker 2: not ever go away, but she's also going to get
- 12:37Speaker 2: to have beautiful moments of seeing who is there to
- 12:39Speaker 2: support her and focusing on that.
- 12:41Speaker 6: I like to throw out one more thing. Allison's father
- 12:45Speaker 6: tragically passed before we got married, and so talking about walking,
- 12:49Speaker 6: who is you know, how is she going to walk
- 12:51Speaker 6: down the aisle was a big topic. And we walked
- 12:53Speaker 6: each other down the air like there was no one
- 12:55Speaker 6: up there, you know, from like I wasn't up there already.
- 12:58Speaker 6: And then she and I walked down together and it
- 12:59Speaker 6: was a really spared moment for her and I. And
- 13:02Speaker 6: that's another option, you know.
- 13:03Speaker 3: I do love that too.
- 13:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I Also we went to Dean and Kaylen's wedding and
- 13:08Speaker 3: Kaylen walked down by herself and it was so it
- 13:11Speaker 3: was like a movie scene. I'll never forget that, like
- 13:15Speaker 3: kiss me by Yeah Rich I was playing.
- 13:19Speaker 2: It felt like in the weather was beautiful, and she
- 13:22Speaker 2: walked down and it was so powerful that she was
- 13:24Speaker 2: by herself. So you know, maybe your girlfriend can find
- 13:28Speaker 2: feeling empowered by that too.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:31Speaker 2: So I'm really sorry you're going through that. And I'm
- 13:33Speaker 2: also so happy you found someone that you want to
- 13:35Speaker 2: be with forever. And there's there is beauty there two
- 13:39Speaker 2: things can exist at the same time, and I've learned
- 13:41Speaker 2: that a lot.
- 13:43Speaker 4: So say it again for the people in the back.
- 13:45Speaker 3: We love you and we're so happy for you.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Yeah, so happy for you.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Dee.
- 13:50Speaker 3: We need to take a break, we do.
- 13:51Speaker 5: Indeed, all right, we'll be right back.
- 14:09Speaker 3: We're ah, gotcha.
- 14:13Speaker 5: I think Becka won every single commercial break this whole week.
- 14:16Speaker 4: I would like to point out she did not, in
- 14:18Speaker 4: fact on Mondays.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Well for the birthday game for her from anonymous. Am
- 14:23Speaker 5: I crazy? Or is this normal? This is my second
- 14:26Speaker 5: Mother's Day. My husband's the best person ever. He is
- 14:28Speaker 5: Robbie two point zero. Wow, He's everything I could ever want.
- 14:32Speaker 5: I'm not complaining about him, But my question is about
- 14:34Speaker 5: Mother's Day. On the day itself, he posted a story
- 14:37Speaker 5: about his mom, who he's really close to, but he
- 14:40Speaker 5: never posted anything about me, the mother of his child.
- 14:43Speaker 5: I was a little sad about that, so we had a conversation.
- 14:45Speaker 5: He told me I'm not his mother.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Oh.
- 14:48Speaker 5: In a nice way. And that's why I didn't post
- 14:50Speaker 5: anything about me. I know this sicilian stop, but I
- 14:52Speaker 5: shouldn't be caring about it because the oh day was perfect.
- 14:54Speaker 5: He took care of me, he gave me the sweetest things.
- 14:57Speaker 5: But am I crazy for feeling sadilled down because he
- 14:59Speaker 5: didn't an Instagram story for me?
- 15:03Speaker 4: I would murder.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I'm a murder.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Murder murder.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Oh my god, I'm murder.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Here's the thing.
- 15:10Speaker 1: If he didn't post anything on Mother's Day, I'd be fine.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I would be like Robbie two point zero. You're good,
- 15:17Speaker 1: we're good, we're solid.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Thank you for me.
- 15:19Speaker 3: But he did other things in person.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yeah, she said the day was perfect. He was so great, great, right,
- 15:25Speaker 1: no problem. You decide to post a public shout out
- 15:30Speaker 1: to your mother, but not to the mother of your
- 15:34Speaker 1: child is absolutely diabolic.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Di'monical, and you're not You're not.
- 15:39Speaker 4: You are not my mother. No, but I am the mother.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Honestly, she is the matriarch of your your unit.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Now she's a matriarch.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I would be I don't know what should be angrier.
- 15:58Speaker 3: That is my advice.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I don't let me tell you father's days around the corner.
- 16:01Speaker 1: You better do a carousel of your dad and like
- 16:06Speaker 1: your neighbor's dad and your your word.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Father, yeah, father, priests, the community church. You shout out
- 16:15Speaker 4: every father in your life. Yeah, but you except for
- 16:19Speaker 4: him because he's not true daddy.

- 29:08Speaker 6: I think Sam Smith and Marshmellow are thirty nine.
- 29:13Speaker 5: Went what you went? Thirty six times? No, thirty seven
- 29:15Speaker 5: times thirty six? Becca thirty nine? They turn thirty four?
