- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's sit out to the Ramos Law hotline car accident.
- 0:02Speaker 2: You need Ramos Law medical doctor and attorney ramas Law
- 0:04Speaker 2: dot com or joined us. We are every Thursday by
- 0:06Speaker 2: Jeff Lagwalld of ESPN dot com.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, Leggy Fellas.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Just to get this out of the way, have you
- 0:13Speaker 2: ever interlocked your fingers with a source before? Not recently,
- 0:19Speaker 2: not recently, but maybe maybe that's a that's a former colleague.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm not sure he wants to go there, just joking around.
- 0:25Speaker 3: We all know.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Anyway, I do want to ask you one thing real quick.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Kirk Cousins was on with the NFL Network and kirk
- 0:32Speaker 2: Cousins said this about joining the Raiders.
- 0:36Speaker 4: I don't want to start unless I'm the best option.
- 0:38Speaker 4: So and I told you know, Clint Dad that best
- 0:41Speaker 4: players should play. As long as that's the case. You know,
- 0:44Speaker 4: I have no qualms with however it plays out. But
- 0:46Speaker 4: I do think Fernando's going to be a great addition
- 0:48Speaker 4: to our team. I think he's going to have a
- 0:49Speaker 4: great future in the league. You know, I have no problem.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So he goes on from there, he talks about it's
- 0:53Speaker 2: great to get Fernando in the room. I don't think
- 0:55Speaker 2: the draft started yet, how does the NFL feel about
- 0:58Speaker 2: him just saying, Oh, Fernando's gonna be a I can't wait.
- 1:02Speaker 5: I don't think that when you have the first pick,
- 1:03Speaker 5: they don't care. No, it's you know, long ago. Uh
- 1:10Speaker 5: you know, it's a long time ago now. But there's
- 1:13Speaker 5: been cases where the team with the number one pick
- 1:15Speaker 5: actually started to negotiate the contract with the with the
- 1:20Speaker 5: player before it was so slotted like it is now,
- 1:24Speaker 5: Like everybody knows pretty much what the financial terms are,
- 1:29Speaker 5: uh for Fernando Mendoz's deal, if he's the number one pick.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Those contract issues yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Yeaheah, that did that didn't used to be the case.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Teams used to fear, this is gonna take so long
- 1:42Speaker 5: to negotiate this deal that we'll get started now.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Since we know we're going to pick him right away.
- 1:47Speaker 5: I think the Colts even uh cranked it up early
- 1:51Speaker 5: with Peyton Manning, uh you know, that year to get
- 1:54Speaker 5: the contract ready because they knew they wanted him to
- 1:57Speaker 5: play from the from the first minute.
- 2:00Speaker 6: Jeffrey, what is going on with Lamar Jackson and the
- 2:04Speaker 6: Ravens And somebody was talking I heard over last weekend
- 2:08Speaker 6: about him possibly to Miami when he's free.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I mean, what's going on there.
- 2:14Speaker 5: I don't get a sense that the you know, anybody's
- 2:17Speaker 5: moving on from anybody. I think there's you know, there's
- 2:21Speaker 5: a coaching change. You have a high profile quarterback, right
- 2:26Speaker 5: he You know, quarterbacks take all the heat if you
- 2:30Speaker 5: don't get it done, and you know it's I think
- 2:35Speaker 5: everybody sort of looks at it and says, Okay, long
- 2:38Speaker 5: time coach who's there a long time is out and
- 2:44Speaker 5: the quarterback remains. So he's gonna be the flash point,
- 2:48Speaker 5: you know for all of this. I think it'll be
- 2:51Speaker 5: a tough year in that regard for him because people
- 2:56Speaker 5: are just gonna be coming at him and from all angle,
- 3:00Speaker 5: you know, because he's sort of the you know, last
- 3:03Speaker 5: man standing from what they built and you know they
- 3:06Speaker 5: didn't get over the last hurdle. So yeah, he's he's
- 3:10Speaker 5: gonna be a focal point. But I you know, player
- 3:14Speaker 5: wins multiple MVPs. I'm not sure I move on unless
- 3:18Speaker 5: you see a really degenerative state of his play. And
- 3:22Speaker 5: I don't see that when I watch him play. But uh,
- 3:27Speaker 5: the quarterback team relationship and this day and age with
- 3:30Speaker 5: all the social media, all the commentary all the ways
- 3:36Speaker 5: you know, the players feel pressure. I think, you know,
- 3:41Speaker 5: it's that that role a in a team is difficult
- 3:45Speaker 5: to handle, and I think he's he's in one of
- 3:47Speaker 5: the bumpy spots right now.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Jeff Leakewell at ESPN dot com with this all conversations
- 3:51Speaker 2: with Legy, you brought to you about the International Brotherhood
- 3:54Speaker 2: of Electrical Workers IBEW Local sixty eight. Start with the
- 3:57Speaker 2: job and with a career. All right, So he asked
- 3:59Speaker 2: you about the Raiders, to ask you about trades, let's
- 4:03Speaker 2: combine them. Do you think that the Raiders during this
- 4:06Speaker 2: either leading up to the draft or maybe during the draft,
- 4:09Speaker 2: are gonna deal Max Crosby or is that kind of
- 4:11Speaker 2: done now?
- 4:13Speaker 5: Yeah, it's you know, it's a hard deal to make
- 4:15Speaker 5: because of the contract and everything. So this late in
- 4:20Speaker 5: the game, everybody's kind of used up their free agency
- 4:24Speaker 5: cap space and all of those things. So that's a
- 4:28Speaker 5: and you've got to be, you know, under the cap
- 4:32Speaker 5: to participate in the draft.
- 4:35Speaker 3: That's that's part of the deal.
- 4:36Speaker 5: So it is harder to trade that kind of marquee player,
- 4:40Speaker 5: you know, around the draft. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen,
- 4:43Speaker 5: but you know, I've been asking around just kind of
- 4:47Speaker 5: on a few things when I talk to people, and
- 4:50Speaker 5: that's one of them.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I don't get that sense.
- 4:53Speaker 5: It would really have to be bubbling beneath the surface.
- 4:57Speaker 5: And you know, again, I they that that trades a
- 5:01Speaker 5: lot harder to make on the draft weekend than it
- 5:05Speaker 5: would have been when free before free agency open.
- 5:09Speaker 6: I don't know what to make of the A. J.
- 5:10Speaker 6: Brown situation either is he going to is he going
- 5:14Speaker 6: to be traded? Is he not going to be traded? Well,
- 5:16Speaker 6: they all just get back together. As Jalen Hurts really
- 5:19Speaker 6: that much of a pain in the butt in the
- 5:20Speaker 6: dressing in the locker room.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Do you have any idea what's going on there?
- 5:25Speaker 5: Sometimes I think, you know, I think when we put
- 5:31Speaker 5: things that happen in our own workplaces and we act
- 5:35Speaker 5: like it's a bigger deal in the NFL that I
- 5:38Speaker 5: have ane, I have a problem with that sometimes, like
- 5:41Speaker 5: it appears to me Jalen Hurts his biggest crime as
- 5:44Speaker 5: he likes to keep to himself. And uh, you know,
- 5:49Speaker 5: if that's his personality.
- 5:51Speaker 1: That was a crime, you'd be in prison.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Yeah for a long time probably, Yeah, But which is
- 5:58Speaker 5: you know, and you can keep to yourself.
- 6:00Speaker 3: So but you know, the guy wins an awful lot.
- 6:05Speaker 5: I don't think Howie Roseman, their general manager, makes trades
- 6:09Speaker 5: unless he wins the trade.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I mean that's and again when.
- 6:15Speaker 5: I ask people in the league about all that the
- 6:18Speaker 5: price is high. He wants a high price. If somebody
- 6:22Speaker 5: comes up to meet that price, yeah, there would.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Be a deal.
- 6:27Speaker 5: But I don't think he's going to cut his asking
- 6:32Speaker 5: price unless something changes significantly from the way things are
- 6:38Speaker 5: going right now.
- 6:39Speaker 1: But that means that they really don't want him. And
- 6:43Speaker 1: where's my love?
- 6:44Speaker 6: And you know, I thought I was a big part
- 6:45Speaker 6: of his team and he Brown's already sort of a
- 6:49Speaker 6: free spirit anyway, right, I mean, when does the diva
- 6:52Speaker 6: factor come in and say, well, if you don't want me,
- 6:54Speaker 6: that I definitely want out regardless of the price.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Well, you know, unfortunately, as a player up to you,
- 7:00Speaker 5: I mean, you can make life difficult for the team,
- 7:05Speaker 5: so they want to trade you. But you know, again,
- 7:08Speaker 5: I think something would have to change philosophically right now.
- 7:13Speaker 5: The Eagles don't make deals unless it makes sense for them.
- 7:18Speaker 5: They don't just move players to get them out of
- 7:21Speaker 5: the way. They move players to regain value. You know,
- 7:26Speaker 5: and they like to get more value than they give up,
- 7:29Speaker 5: and a player like AJ Brown, that's a difficult trade
- 7:33Speaker 5: to make because you're asking for a lot of value.
- 7:36Speaker 5: And in the end, I mean, they've dealt with them,
- 7:41Speaker 5: you know, day to day, they know him. I think
- 7:44Speaker 5: there's going to be an element in that building where
- 7:46Speaker 5: they feel like they can find a way to function
- 7:50Speaker 5: once the football really starts. But I think it'll take
- 7:55Speaker 5: a lot for them to make the deal. And if
- 7:57Speaker 5: you want that player, you're going to have to give
- 7:59Speaker 5: up lot.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Jeff Lagweld ESPN dot Com with us. Let me read
- 8:04Speaker 2: you this from The Athletic. This is a quote from
- 8:06Speaker 2: Don't You Love These? An anonymous NFL executive on the
- 8:11Speaker 2: Broncos trade for Jayalen Waddle. He said, take your shot,
- 8:15Speaker 2: but you'd better know some of the flaws. Availability is
- 8:18Speaker 2: a concern, and he doesn't exactly exude toughness. Maybe your
- 8:22Speaker 2: culture changes that he opens things up and he's in
- 8:24Speaker 2: his prime. As far as the availability and toughness factors,
- 8:28Speaker 2: would you push back on those or agree with him?
- 8:32Speaker 3: I don't see the availability issue. He's played a lot.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Of games, you know, I've heard I heard Dolphins fans
- 8:39Speaker 2: talking about, Yeah he plays, but he's always dinged up
- 8:42Speaker 2: or leave in the second quarter or something like that.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I guess is what they're talking about.
- 8:46Speaker 5: You know, again, I when a player is traded away,
- 8:49Speaker 5: there's always this stuff in the jetwash, because if you're
- 8:53Speaker 5: the team making the trade, you've sort of got to
- 8:56Speaker 5: explain it to people, either behind the scenes or out front,
- 9:00Speaker 5: you know, putting your name on it. Either way, it's
- 9:03Speaker 5: pretty common. But I don't think. I don't know. If
- 9:06Speaker 5: you ask people in a personnel people in a vacuum,
- 9:11Speaker 5: does he have availability problems?
- 9:13Speaker 3: The answer would be no. So you know, I don't
- 9:16Speaker 3: think that one. You know, toughness, I don't know.
- 9:19Speaker 5: You know, I don't when he seemed pretty tough when
- 9:24Speaker 5: he was a big part of the offense and had
- 9:28Speaker 5: you know, a hundred plus targets through the middle of
- 9:31Speaker 5: the field. So when your team goes bad, everybody's play
- 9:35Speaker 5: suffers and you're not gonna look as good as you did.
- 9:40Speaker 5: So I don't see those things. But you know, look,
- 9:44Speaker 5: I've been like the draft. I've been doing the draft
- 9:46Speaker 5: long enough to know you can find. I don't care
- 9:50Speaker 5: who the player is, how great he is, how great
- 9:53Speaker 5: he will be you can always, and I mean always,
- 9:57Speaker 5: find one scout who isn't all that thrilled by the players.
- 10:02Speaker 5: So you know, I take that stuff as as it comes.
- 10:05Speaker 1: We are exactly two weeks away from the draft. Two weeks. Yes,
- 10:11Speaker 1: when's your thing coming up?
- 10:13Speaker 3: Week from Sunday?
- 10:16Speaker 1: A week from so?
- 10:17Speaker 6: Okay, so you won't be able to chew on it
- 10:19Speaker 6: for six for five days before the draft?
- 10:23Speaker 5: Yes, okay, you can give it your full scrutiny.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Did you just ask him when his things coming out?
- 10:31Speaker 3: Yeah? He did, But I I like, I just want.
- 10:35Speaker 5: I let that go because you know, I know how
- 10:37Speaker 5: this show is because he's doing the ring.
- 10:40Speaker 3: I don't mean it's a drunk it's a drunk take
- 10:43Speaker 3: if I'm not careful. So I got I got to
- 10:45Speaker 3: bring it around, you know. Okay, hang on, he did,
- 10:48Speaker 3: he did ask me.
- 10:49Speaker 1: That, Okay, I just wanted to verify I heard what
- 10:52Speaker 1: I heard.
- 10:53Speaker 3: You know, I get that.
- 10:54Speaker 5: I get asked that at least once a day.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Is Mike ask you that? All right? All right?
- 10:59Speaker 3: All right, Wow, that's that's for your show, not me.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Your show, Leggy.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I have to do it.
- 11:10Speaker 2: We're pretty close. Can I get in the seventies eighties. No,
- 11:16Speaker 2: I can't get the ninety third player next week?
- 11:19Speaker 1: Next week?
- 11:20Speaker 3: Okay?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Deal, what's my limit? What's like the highest you you'd
- 11:24Speaker 1: allow me to go on your list?
- 11:28Speaker 3: You can't have top forty? Okay, fair, I'll give you
- 11:32Speaker 3: a Broncos pick or two.
- 11:34Speaker 6: Okay, okays? Hey do you I don't really know what
- 11:38Speaker 6: you do outside of football, because that's really all you
- 11:41Speaker 6: do is football.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Do you golf at all?
- 11:45Speaker 3: I attempt to. Yes.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Oh you're kidding me, dude.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I still I still walk and carry my bag.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Well, then you'd be that guy you will.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I don't ride carts. I don't do
- 11:58Speaker 3: any of that.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I wouldn't you. Yeah, you know I was gonna invite you, dude,
- 12:02Speaker 1: But no, I ain't walking. No, I know you're not.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I like to walk.
- 12:08Speaker 5: No, I walk, and I still carry my bag and
- 12:10Speaker 5: usually I finished the round and the people I play
- 12:13Speaker 5: with will ask me how old I am?
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, you know what I like about you?
- 12:17Speaker 6: You have interest in other sports besides football, which is
- 12:20Speaker 6: your life, no doubt about it. I mean, but do
- 12:22Speaker 6: you like on this early Thursday morning? Are you on
- 12:25Speaker 6: the app on ESPN and watching the Masters early on
- 12:30Speaker 6: that kind of.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Thing, not this time of year.
- 12:32Speaker 5: I mean, I'll i'll see who's who's leading and things
- 12:35Speaker 5: like that. But this is this is draft mode right
- 12:38Speaker 5: now until I okay, until I land the top one
- 12:41Speaker 5: hundred guitar mac.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Do you think Ty Simpsons the first round pick?
- 12:46Speaker 1: No?
- 12:46Speaker 3: I do not.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Well do you think sorry, let me rephrase that, I
- 12:49Speaker 2: know what you think. Do you think he will be
- 12:50Speaker 2: drafted in the first round?
- 12:52Speaker 3: I do.
- 12:53Speaker 5: I think he has a chance. Now, I don't think
- 12:54Speaker 5: it's the slam dunk. A lot of people think it is.
- 12:57Speaker 6: Uh.
- 12:58Speaker 5: And it's not that he's not a good player. Look,
- 13:02Speaker 5: the guy started quarterback in the SEC. You're a good
- 13:06Speaker 5: football player. I think we get too wrapped up sometimes
- 13:10Speaker 5: you know that there are only thirty two good football
- 13:12Speaker 5: players and those are the only guys in the first round.
- 13:15Speaker 5: You know, talk to Nick Benito, you know, talk to anybody.
- 13:19Speaker 3: There are lots of.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Good football players who weren't in the top fifty. So,
- 13:24Speaker 5: but you have to look at it like the ten
- 13:27Speaker 5: thousand foot view. He's only started fifteen games history, and look,
- 13:33Speaker 5: there are outliers, certainly, but history says that is a
- 13:38Speaker 5: difficult resume for a starting quarterback coming into the NFL.
- 13:43Speaker 5: There's not a lot of success stories. The success stories
- 13:47Speaker 5: are good ones, but there aren't a lot of them.
- 13:49Speaker 5: And that's you know, that's thirty forty years worth of data.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so that matters. He's only six'.
- 13:56Speaker 5: ONE i almost never hear that talked about right. Now
- 14:00Speaker 5: he is a six foot one. Quarterback that's. Difficult he's
- 14:05Speaker 5: almost never played under. Center that's difficult depending on the
- 14:09Speaker 5: team you go.
- 14:10Speaker 3: To so he's got some.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Challenges but as a decision, maker he processes really. Quickly and,
- 14:18Speaker 5: look he's a coach's. Son i've you, Know i've seen
- 14:21Speaker 5: his dad coach At Tennessee. Martin it's you, know his
- 14:25Speaker 5: fundamentals are pure and. Sound his feet matches eyes when
- 14:31Speaker 5: he's when he's looking things.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Over that's.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Important you don't always see, that but you, KNOW i
- 14:37Speaker 5: think you, know, again this is the time of year
- 14:40Speaker 5: when the draft discussions at its, peak and there's nobody
- 14:44Speaker 5: wants to live in the middle. Ground you, know everybody's
- 14:47Speaker 5: terrible or everybody's.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Great you just hit on.
- 14:50Speaker 7: Something think about how many great quarterbacks were coaches. Sons
- 14:54Speaker 7: elway was a coach's. Son Bo nick's not a great quarterback,
- 14:58Speaker 7: yet but he's on his way. There, coaches you look
- 15:00Speaker 7: up and down THE nfl over the, history it's it's
- 15:03Speaker 7: amazing how many coaches molded their kids into.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Quarterbacks, well that's because they want them to be their.
- 15:09Speaker 5: Quarterback a lot of times they want the best quarterback
- 15:15Speaker 5: on their. Team so they, no there's there's there's epic
- 15:22Speaker 5: amounts of, examples you, know through the. Years, yeah but
- 15:26Speaker 5: this is a this is a weird board for the
- 15:29Speaker 5: quarterback Because i've it's been a long time Since i've
- 15:33Speaker 5: heard this many varying. Opinions after the almost unanimous number
- 15:40Speaker 5: one quarterback on the, board you could get a different
- 15:44Speaker 5: order from from two hundred different people if you ask, Them.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Jeff, like who comes?
- 15:49Speaker 2: Next, Yeah Jeff lakewe AT espn dot com towards this Every.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Thursday always appreciate.
- 15:52Speaker 1: It let you thank, you.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Buddy thanks all as we'll see.
- 15:55Speaker 6: It
