- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:16Ladies and gentlemen, please stay tuned for a live television
- 0:19First, welcome to What's Your Least Favorite Scary Movie?
- 0:22The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:25the absurd and all of our. Favorite and least favorite
- 0:27scary movies Because we believe every horror movie rightfully
- 0:30has its fan base even. If I don't always.
- 0:31Let's get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:33My name is Jesse and welcome to Night Owls with Jack Delroy.
- 0:38Hell yeah. We are doing our Patreon voted
- 0:43episode this month. It was a movie that neither of
- 0:46us has ever seen. Late Night with the Devil.
- 0:48Yeah. So, so thank you guys for doing
- 0:51that. It's another new release that we
- 0:52have going on here. Yeah, it's two months in a row
- 0:55now. Yes, you know, and if you want
- 0:58to be able to vote on things like that.
- 1:00Bottom of the show notes. To our Patreon, be a Be a bubby.
- 1:04Be a bubby. OK, before we start, I have a
- 1:09quick announcement. Yeah, we are on TV Trivia Pod
- 1:12this week. It came out on roughly Tuesday.
- 1:15Yep, we have been on the show a couple of times and this is the
- 1:19first time I actually get to talk about horror.
- 1:21So we're real excited. And we covered Child's Play.
- 1:24Yeah, so Child's Play trivia is going down over there.
- 1:27It's a good time. We recommend everybody to go
- 1:29check that out because we like being on their show over there
- 1:33and it's just a good time. It's a it's a real fun time,
- 1:36Yeah. We love trivia.
- 1:37We love the show. What's not to love?
- 1:39Yeah, exactly. So go check that out.
- 1:41I don't think I have any other announcements.
- 1:45To Be or Not to Be came out this weekend.
- 1:47Yeah. We talked about a clan movie
- 1:51neither of us had ever seen before.
- 1:53It was in fact not Terrifier 3, although that.
- 1:56Got talked. About some as well, but we
- 1:59talked about drive through. Yeah, drive through it was.
- 2:01It was my pick. It was, you know, just a fun
- 2:04little 2000s slasher movie that I don't know, I thought would be
- 2:08fun. So we talked about it.
- 2:09So go check that shit out. Yeah.
- 2:11And also after we recorded last week, we realized we haven't
- 2:13talked about any of our October watches.
- 2:16So we're gonna just, we're gonna go over those real quick.
- 2:19Yeah, So what? We've watched so far this month.
- 2:22For those that have been with us over the years, at this point we
- 2:26do a little thing every October that we call the Scream Screen
- 2:29where we watch a horror movie every day of the month.
- 2:32Which most people do something like this, but a lot of people
- 2:35have their own flavor to it. We call ours our scream screen
- 2:38just it's a name we came up with years ago.
- 2:41We take turns picking and we also switch between an old
- 2:45favorite and something new. Like new isn't we haven't seen
- 2:49before so. We're gonna just do a little
- 2:52recap. Yeah, minor micro recaps of all
- 2:55of the movies that we have watched up until now.
- 2:57We got 12 days of movies here, so let's let's get the first one
- 3:01out the way. So Jesse had first picked.
- 3:02Yes, and it's all we always start with a familiar and I went
- 3:05with the forever purge. I actually, I was stuck between
- 3:08a few and I let Talia pick and she, she loves, what's his name?
- 3:14Lucas Josh. Lucas.
- 3:16Josh Lucas. Yeah, She, she loves him.
- 3:18So she's like, alright, go with that, Yeah.
- 3:20It's a good movie. It's a it's one of the fun perch
- 3:22movies. Yeah.
- 3:23And it's 1 though, you know, we, we haven't, we haven't fully
- 3:26covered, but we have a mini review.
- 3:27Yeah, we we did like a mini review because we got out of the
- 3:30theater watching it a few years ago.
- 3:31We were like, we just need to talk about it right now.
- 3:33So. So, yeah, all right, Next up was
- 3:36my pick. It was a familiar and it was
- 3:38Deadstream, which is a Shutter movie and it's a fun one.
- 3:44I I don't know why, like I caught like part of it on the
- 3:47shutter live feed one day in September.
- 3:50I was like, oh man, I forgot about that movie I need to watch
- 3:52again soon. So I wanted to watch it and it's
- 3:55funny it. Holds up.
- 3:55Yeah, it's, it's funny, it holds up.
- 3:58It's got some good horror elements to it.
- 4:00I just, I have a fun time with that movie.
- 4:02That's a great movie. He really picks up on the like
- 4:06cringe YouTube. Yeah, streamer, like the live
- 4:09streamer of those people. Yeah, Oh my God.
- 4:12So yeah. Next up was a new pic.
- 4:15It was mine, it was a new pic, and it was Winnie the Pooh.
- 4:17Blood and honey too. And you better believe we're
- 4:19going to talk about. Absolutely.
- 4:21I loved that shit. It was even more fun than the
- 4:24first one. I know it's not everybody's a
- 4:25cup of tea, but I fucking lived for it.
- 4:28Yeah, well, I wonder if you, if you're a lot of people, have
- 4:32expressed much more positive thoughts about this one than the
- 4:36original. So maybe give it a shot.
- 4:38You don't even really need to watch the first one to
- 4:40understand what's happening. It's not super.
- 4:42Like, yeah, it's just. So they give a recap at the
- 4:44beginning. It's fucking Winnie the Pooh
- 4:46slashing people. Yeah, and that's all you need to
- 4:48know. All right, Next up, what's a new
- 4:50one for us? For me, it was my pick.
- 4:52I chose Maximum OverDrive. We had Akadaka doing the movie
- 4:59soundtrack, so that was a lot of fun.
- 5:00Stephen King coked up directing all kinds of weird fucking
- 5:04trucks doing shit. We have Emilio Estevez, we have
- 5:09Lisa Simpson's voice actor. Yeah.
- 5:11It's just there was a lot going on.
- 5:13It's such a strange movie, man. It is, but it's.
- 5:16Very, very Stephen King. Like at one point I was like,
- 5:19does he think Southerners are stupid?
- 5:21And I was like, I mean. He was not he.
- 5:25He's. Like that's how he writes his
- 5:26books too. He likes to like give a dialect
- 5:28and he really likes to do like a regional yokel.
- 5:32Yeah, it was kind of making me offended, honestly.
- 5:35He's like, damn. Just like, fuck you, Steven.
- 5:39Same name, you fucking asshole. Sorry.
- 5:41Excuse me. All right.
- 5:43Travis Travis continuing to still get overly worked up about
- 5:46Steven. Yeah, OK, so familiar fave up
- 5:48next. Just scream. 4.
- 5:50Yeah, that's just. We we had a long day wrangling
- 5:54children. They were in ours.
- 5:56So it's OK. Yeah.
- 5:58Just kidding. It was nieces and nephews.
- 6:00It was. Yeah, Scream four.
- 6:02Yeah. So we're like, we're gonna come
- 6:03back to comforting favorite. Yeah.
- 6:05And then the following day was mine, which was Freddy versus
- 6:07Jason, which is same. Yeah, You know, it's just
- 6:10another fun little splasher. Actually, what happened was we
- 6:13watched Scream Four and then it like that was an option to play
- 6:18after. So Travis played it and we fell
- 6:20asleep and woke up part way through it.
- 6:22And the next day he's like, I just wanna watch the whole
- 6:25thing. I didn't.
- 6:26Yeah, I was really wanting to watch it, and that was my day to
- 6:30pick, so fuck yeah. Yeah.
- 6:31All right, Next up, new. Spin the bottle.
- 6:34Definitely gonna be talking about it on the show.
- 6:37It's got terrible reviews. It's honestly it's kind of a
- 6:39terrible movie, but I love it so much this.
- 6:41Just came out. I love.
- 6:43Just came out this month. Yeah.
- 6:44So you can't even rent it. You have to purchase it.
- 6:48And Jesse was like, we're buying it.
- 6:50Like, listen, if it had gone to theaters, I would have paid more
- 6:53for tickets for it. That's fair.
- 6:54I was so looking for. Now we can keep watching.
- 6:57It it's Justin Long and Ally Larder in a haunted game movie.
- 7:02What is my favorite sub genre of horror people?
- 7:07You need to keep your expectations about Justin Long.
- 7:09He's throughout the whole movie, but he's not the main.
- 7:12Yeah, he's not a main character, but like he sells every fucking
- 7:16line. He knows what movie he's in.
- 7:18He's. Been around this.
- 7:19Block so it's. I have a lot of fun with it
- 7:22honestly. Following that was my new pic.
- 7:26I chose the sadness. God damn.
- 7:28The name is very appropriate. I loved Ward Zombie.
- 7:32Your whole thing saying is that the one about emotional zombie?
- 7:36Yes, it is. Yeah, it is.
- 7:38Yeah, but I love that as like a description for them.
- 7:41It's. Such a fucking intense movie.
- 7:44Everything that you've heard about it, it's worse than you
- 7:46hear. I was feeling all kinds of ways
- 7:49about it afterwards. We joke around, Travis picks a
- 7:52movie every year that's gonna just really fucking bum somebody
- 7:55in the house out, and that was it.
- 7:57That was his pick. This.
- 7:58Year and when I say worse, I don't mean like bad it was a.
- 8:00Phenomenal, amazing movie. It was great.
- 8:02It was one of my favorite movies I've watched in a long time.
- 8:04My soul died. Just be prepared for a heavy
- 8:07shit. Yeah, yes, yeah.
- 8:09Don't go into. That way it's called the
- 8:11sadness. And that's right.
- 8:14Yes, it's very all right. So next was a familiar
- 8:18Terrifier. Yeah, we're just ramping up for
- 8:21a Terrifier we watch through, which is why the following day I
- 8:24did Terrifier 2. We had watched All Hallows Eve
- 8:26also. It just wasn't like one of her
- 8:29official picks, but it was just a movie.
- 8:31We both actually ended up kind of independently watching
- 8:33throughout the week. So I was like, all right, we
- 8:36need Terrifier. So we need us to.
- 8:38This past Saturday was a neutral new pick.
- 8:40We did Terrifier 3. Well, the Friday before Trevor,
- 8:43I just chose Terrifier 2. Yes, I.
- 8:45Already, said Terrifier Two. Yeah, OK.
- 8:47Yeah, so we went and saw Terrifier 3 this past weekend.
- 8:50If you have not seen it yet, go check that shit out.
- 8:53Shout out to our pals Chad and Mandy who went with us.
- 8:57Watch Buddies for. That so yeah, absolutely loved
- 9:01it. It's a great movie.
- 9:01We're we'll talk about it as soon as it becomes available for
- 9:04our home release on the show. So for sure, yeah.
- 9:09Wow, it like Damien really did that, you know?
- 9:15Yeah, I mean that that's what happens when each movie you kind
- 9:18of have to try and one up yourself, you know what I mean?
- 9:20But it doesn't feel try hard. It doesn't.
- 9:22No, it doesn't. OK.
- 9:25And then the final one was a Jessie new pic, which we did
- 9:27last night. Yes, that was a makeup for
- 9:29earlier in the week where we didn't have a chance to watch it
- 9:32cuz we were celebrating a friend's birthday.
- 9:34Yeah, so I had to make up for it with the final girl.
- 9:38Yeah. We'd never seen it.
- 9:40It's been on my radar for a while and it was all Peacock, so
- 9:43I was like, hey, I want to watch this.
- 9:45And you know what? Really fucking good.
- 9:47I love it. It was a lot of fun.
- 9:48That was it was funny and it was.
- 9:49Good, like a lot of really great references.
- 9:52It was a good homage, yeah. It paid tribute to a lot of the
- 9:55classics and had some big deep cuts in it too.
- 9:57Yeah, she was like. But my friend Tina says that the
- 10:00best feeling a woman can experience is having sex and
- 10:02smoking pot on a water bed. And we went.
- 10:04Did she just? Save that movie.
- 10:08And also shout out to Thomas Middleditch giving us a Sprite
- 10:11and bright Forever this. Character is so funny in this
- 10:15movie, him and Adam Devine. Devine, I don't know how you say
- 10:17his last. Name.
- 10:18Yeah. I've never heard his name said
- 10:20out loud. Just at this point I'm afraid to
- 10:22ask. Yeah.
- 10:24So that's a good one. If you are looking for something
- 10:26to watch this month, I absolutely.
- 10:28Recommend if you're like I've heard of it and I've heard it's
- 10:30good but I've just never watched it.
- 10:31Watch it. Watch it babe, it's good.
- 10:34OK, so that was our whole recap of what we've watched so far
- 10:38this month. And we will pick up from there
- 10:40next week. Yeah, so I think we are now
- 10:42ready for poll results. Sorry.
- 10:44We'll move on real quick. This will be a really fast one.
- 10:47We talked about Phantasm last week and we just wanted to know
- 10:50how much does Reggie fuck watts or tons?
- 10:54And surprisingly on Twitter and Instagram, we got the same exact
- 11:02results. So on both platforms it's 50% or
- 11:0756% watts, 54% tons. That math doesn't math. 56 and
- 11:1444. OK.
- 11:15Yeah. So 50.
- 11:16Four Sorry, 56 and 44. He fucks 100 and. 10% he does,
- 11:20yes. Reggie Fox, y'all, and I'm not
- 11:24gonna take credit for that. That one was inspired by
- 11:26Cubesave. So yeah.
- 11:27Review from last week about how he fucks and I'm like he does
- 11:30fuck, but how much? And now we know it's lots.
- 11:35Officially. Canonically, it's lots.
- 11:36Canonically, Reggie fucks lots. I can't wait to meet him at
- 11:40Scarefest and be like, the people have spoken.
- 11:42You fuck lots, man. Yeah.
- 11:45OK, so I think we're ready to roll on into waiting on with the
- 11:48devil. What do you say?
- 11:50I'm ready. I'm ready to talk about this
- 11:51yeah so late night with the double had it's like official
- 11:56premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival March
- 11:5910th 2023, but it's actual like release was March 22nd 2024.
- 12:04We ended up watching it on Shutter, but as of right now you
- 12:06can also watch it on AMC Plus, Prime Premium, Filo, YouTube
- 12:10Premium, YouTube TV, Primetime, Sling TV, or you can rent some
- 12:13from Google Player. Fandango at home.
- 12:16Written and directed by the Karen's brothers, Cameron and
- 12:19Colin. OK.
- 12:21Music by Roscoe James Irwin and Glen Richards.
- 12:24Special effects makeup by Russell Sharp.
- 12:27Starring David Dasmalchian as Jack Delroy, Laura Gordon as
- 12:31June Ross Mitchell, Ian Bliss as Carmichael Haig, Faisal Bazi as
- 12:35Chris Stew, Ingrid Torelli as Lily and Reese Alton as Gus
- 12:39McConnell. Wow.
- 12:41OK, All right. I did all that in like a single
- 12:45breath. Good job.
- 12:46Thank you. All right, now it's time for our
- 12:48favorite game budget or bugtad. I don't think this seemed like
- 12:55an indie production to me. I think this is because
- 12:58something about this. Yeah, there's just something
- 13:02about a screams, like a small crew.
- 13:04So I'm thinking Bugtad. OK and in fact I have to default
- 13:09to our the old rule of no budget is micro budget.
- 13:13I do not have the budget information available.
- 13:16I do have an opening box office because it did have a limited
- 13:18wide release. Limited wide release?
- 13:21That sounds stupid. Limited theatrical release,
- 13:25opening box office of 2.8 million and a worldwide gross of
- 13:2815.4 million. Current IMDb score of seven,
- 13:31point O out of 10. Nice, I remember this movie had
- 13:34some hype whenever a release so I'm not surprised it did pretty
- 13:38well. I got other movies from 2024,
- 13:41now I'm we're getting into spoiler territory with Late
- 13:44Night with the Devil and for all of these movies just a heads up.
- 13:48Yeah, if you, if you haven't seen it, just be aware we're
- 13:51talking about all the shit. Yeah, already at this point.
- 13:53Yes, so I know sometimes like we try and avoid like super main
- 13:57spoilers until we start talking more about the movie.
- 14:00But yeah, my theme is bad deals. So either somebody made a bad
- 14:06deal or they tried to do a thing and it's like, what did you hope
- 14:09to gain from this? Or like they gained the thing
- 14:11they wanted, but it's like, was it worth it?
- 14:14Yeah, cuz like for him, like deal with the devil.
- 14:16But he didn't even get number one and he still lost his wife.
- 14:19Like that's a bad. Like you needed a better lawyer,
- 14:22Jack? Johnny Carson made a better
- 14:24deal. Right, like.
- 14:27Johnny Carson's like and I'll suck your Dick.
- 14:30Yeah. That's probably what dinner.
- 14:33Right there. So the first movie I have is
- 14:37Long Legs. OK.
- 14:40Because the devil made a dope mummy daughter.
- 14:47Yeah. So basically she had to go do
- 14:50bad things to save her daughter. Hold on.
- 14:52OK, Let's not make Are we spoiling all?
- 14:55I said there was going to be spoilers.
- 14:57Even for these spoiler alert for all of these movies, Yes, all of
- 15:02the. I thought you were just talking
- 15:03about Lena with. The no spoiler for all of these
- 15:05cuz they're all 20 and 24. OK jump ahead a little bit,
- 15:09cover your ears or something if you don't want any of these cuz
- 15:12these are all of new movies so beware.
- 15:14Yeah, so that really is July 12th, 2024.
- 15:19Don't have a budget for it but it made a worldwide gross of 108
- 15:22million cuz it fucking deserved it and it has an IMDb score of
- 15:266.7 out of 10. It did that because of the
- 15:29fucking marketing. It did a good job.
- 15:31The marketing was phenomenal for that movie.
- 15:33The movie was also great. A lot of people, yeah, people
- 15:36are talking. People are talking, people are
- 15:38saying this. Is a big movie.
- 15:40The next movie I have Maxine. Yeah, she becomes famous, but
- 15:45she has to fight a cult. This is so funny.
- 15:49These are the exact movies that shows her in a violent nature.
- 15:54I mean to I actually forgot what movies you picked for that.
- 15:57I knew you had to do some like recent ones.
- 16:00But I'm really curious to know what the third one is now.
- 16:03I I don't think it's one that you picked.
- 16:05OK so Maxine released July 5th, 2024.
- 16:10Budget of 1,000,000, worldwide gross of 22,000,000.
- 16:13IMDb score of 6.3 out of 10. Yeah, that's a fun movie.
- 16:17OK, what was There was no spoiler for that one.
- 16:20Like her having to fight the cult.
- 16:22I guess I avoided most of the spoiler for that.
- 16:24OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:26All right. And then finally Abigail, which
- 16:30we haven't seen it, but I know that the general premise is that
- 16:32it's like these people kidnaps. We haven't seen it.
- 16:36But she's actually. Do you not know the twist?
- 16:40Yeah, every. That's what I was gonna say.
- 16:41We've seen the trailer, therefore we've seen the movie.
- 16:44We know exactly what happens. And well, don't worry, we're
- 16:46gonna be watching it at some point this month because it's on
- 16:48my. List I'm sure.
- 16:50But yeah, she's like, actually a vampire.
- 16:51So, you know, they think that they're gonna get like this big
- 16:54ransom payment and instead they probably mostly bad.
- 16:57I I've heard nothing but amazing things about that movie.
- 17:00I just hate how I like told you everything in the trailer.
- 17:03I really feels like it's one of those movies that it's more
- 17:05about the ride. It's the journey, not the
- 17:07destination. That's fair.
- 17:09I just even like big moments. Like I've seen that Duff.
- 17:13I know who dies. OK so that released April 19th
- 17:182024. Budget of 28 fucking $1,000,000.
- 17:22Worldwide gross of 42,000,000. IMDb score of 6.6 out of 10.
- 17:26Wow, Yeah, I didn't realize that they had that much behind that
- 17:30right. I mean they had a pretty bad.
- 17:32Cast yeah. So like, I've been very curious
- 17:35about it for a while, so. But I know you've had your anger
- 17:38about the trailer. I mean, I don't know, it's just
- 17:42like you said, like I I've heard enough good things, so I'll
- 17:44check it out. It's just, yeah, just because
- 17:47that trailer, it was kind of off putting.
- 17:49It was the opposite of long legs.
- 17:50Like the marketing made me not want to watch it.
- 17:53OK, I have some tag lines. Yeah, OK, one on the poster
- 17:58warning may be disturbing to some viewers.
- 18:01That's cool. I like it because it feels like
- 18:04it's, you know, A tag line for the episode itself.
- 18:06Yeah. Well, generally, yeah.
- 18:07Yeah, I like that a lot. A 1970s late night talk show
- 18:12goes to hell in this fiendish horror thriller.
- 18:15OK. That just seems like a mini
- 18:17review. Exactly, I don't like tag lines
- 18:19that are like a mini review. It's like summing it up, yeah.
- 18:22The live television event that shocked a nation.
- 18:26I could see that being like another real thing.
- 18:30Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exorcism with A twist.
- 18:36Yeah, yeah. Kind of a little, yeah.
- 18:38Don't adjust your set. Don't touch that dial.
- 18:43Exactly. That's ours.
- 18:45I'm calling that one. Don't touch that dial.
- 18:47We'll see. OK.
- 18:49Keep it in mind. All right?
- 18:50Keep it in mind. You're just so quick to shut it
- 18:52down, but then wait until we get to the end of the episode and
- 18:54we're struggling. I didn't say no.
- 18:57I just said we'll see, OK, That was very open-ended.
- 19:01It's not my fault that you decided to take it negatively.
- 19:05Yes. OK, you don't know what he
- 19:08sacrificed to get here, so those are all our tag lights.
- 19:14Yeah. Not bad.
- 19:15Mostly solid. Yeah.
- 19:16There's a good crop of them. They're small and they're just
- 19:17kind of. Yeah.
- 19:18But that's just about any movie, really.
- 19:21So I have a small amount of fun things.
- 19:23OK, the Karen's brothers thought that late night in the 70s
- 19:27eighties was already like kind of slightly dangerous in a
- 19:30window into a strange adult world, which I love the image of
- 19:33these two young brothers be like, I don't know about Ben,
- 19:35Johnny Carson fella. Like it seems like him
- 19:38specifically because he's referenced a lot in this.
- 19:41Yeah, really. Like he probably did some shit
- 19:45with the devil. They think they had to have
- 19:47watched an episode at some point that traumatized them, but
- 19:51anyway, they thought it would be like fun to take that and put
- 19:54like a supernatural twist to it. That's cool, yeah.
- 19:57Yeah, Dust Malchien was offered the role after they found a
- 20:02write up that he didn't think Gloria of regional horror hosts.
- 20:06Oh, really? Yeah.
- 20:07So I think that's kind of cool that like he wrote about horror
- 20:09hosts and they were like, this guy knows about hosting.
- 20:12I've he's one of those actors that like I kind of see around,
- 20:15but I don't really know if he's in Hawaii.
- 20:16Things that I watch but I'm familiar enough with.
- 20:19Them. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:20He's like he's got, he's got a filmography, you know what I
- 20:24mean? But like, this is the first
- 20:26thing that I could really, like, immediately tell you.
- 20:27I remember seeing him. Yeah, me too.
- 20:29Yeah. They use some digital visual
- 20:33effects, but they also use a lot of practical effects, including
- 20:35file effects. Yeah.
- 20:37Yeah. Hey, do we want to get into the
- 20:39whole AI thing now or do you have anything?
- 20:41I don't have anything for that, but I figured we'd probably talk
- 20:43about it in like our uglies, OK, Cuz I figured that's probably
- 20:47OK. That's fair, you know?
- 20:49Yeah. And then finally it was shot in
- 20:51Melbourne, Australia really. And I told you I was pretty sure
- 20:54it was Australia based on the cast and the fact that they gave
- 20:57a little note respecting the local indigenous groups.
- 21:01So. I'll give you a little nugget of
- 21:04information that Chad actually told me yesterday.
- 21:06When we were watching. Terra Fire 3 because he was
- 21:09asking me about the movie and what I thought of it, but he
- 21:12said that. What's the actor's name again?
- 21:15David does small Chan. He told me that he took the SAG
- 21:18minimum for this movie because, wow, he was.
- 21:22So he enjoyed the script for it so much that he really, really
- 21:27wanted to be a part of it. So he was just like, I'll just
- 21:29be a part of it, you know, like help the production.
- 21:32You don't have to spend like this tiny amount of budget that
- 21:35you have on me. Even though he, this guy is in
- 21:38big shit. He's in the Dune movies, which
- 21:40are like a huge thing right now. Yeah.
- 21:42So yeah, like a high demand guy. Really liked the script.
- 21:45He did it for the passion. I respect that.
- 21:47Yeah. It was really cool.
- 21:48For sure, and he honestly also just kind of fucking killed the
- 21:52role. He did.
- 21:54Yeah, absolutely. I guess that's a good segue, and
- 21:56it's very good. Bad, ugly and absurd.
- 21:58And since I got some of the background, that means you gotta
- 22:01kick it off, Bobby. OK, well then yeah, that was the
- 22:05exact first thing that I had. I had Jack's actor fucking
- 22:08killed it like he did the late night persona so well.
- 22:13He really did. He had the late night persona,
- 22:15but he also like when shit started going down, like you
- 22:19could see that like desperation. He had to believe that it was
- 22:23his. Yeah, reaching out to him.
- 22:24That was really good. I also liked how you saw his
- 22:28composure change in between, like when it would do the behind
- 22:31the scenes footage. Yeah.
- 22:32So like, and that was I love that for a storytelling device
- 22:37in this movie, like you see the live footage, so you see what
- 22:41was broadcasted and then it has the behind the scenes, it's all
- 22:43in black and white. And that's such a creative way
- 22:47to like, continue the story and like piece together little
- 22:50things that are happening throughout the movie.
- 22:52I don't know. I thought it was really clever.
- 22:54And they did a great job with that right there.
- 22:56Yes, I love the format of having it be a late night talk show
- 23:00because I like this way of introducing all of these
- 23:03interesting new guests. And it's organic.
- 23:05Like you can bring out a fucking medium.
- 23:08You can bring out a magician. Skeptus.
- 23:10Or is that the term skeptus? Skeptic, skeptic.
- 23:16Sorry to hear that. He's septic.
- 23:20OK. Yeah.
- 23:23No, I thought that was really cool.
- 23:24And then you can also bring out the possessed girl, you know,
- 23:26like, that was such a cool way to do that.
- 23:28And like, yeah, you can, like, have these wacky and, like,
- 23:32interesting people come out and it not feel forced.
- 23:35You know what I mean? Yeah, it's really cool.
- 23:39Yeah. Like that was it.
- 23:40Like, there's a lot of really cool things that they did with
- 23:42this movie that I really enjoyed.
- 23:45Yeah, I think for me, the good, it really nails the feel and the
- 23:50beats of a late night talk show. Like even if you didn't watch a
- 23:54ton of it, you still know like his banter with his like.
- 23:58Psychic Guy. Well, no, Gus, the leader of his
- 24:01band, because the the host always has like that one guy
- 24:05that like is there for he's in the band and he's kind of like a
- 24:08mini Co host and he's there for him to rib and yeah, exactly
- 24:10like he plays that role. Like they both play that role
- 24:13perfectly. Yeah, and same with like the
- 24:15opening monologue where it's like a bunch of jokes.
- 24:17Yeah, you're basically you do like a little mini stand up
- 24:19stuff. Yeah, yeah, it like they hit all
- 24:21of the beats just so perfectly. And I felt like I was watching a
- 24:25real late night show when I was like kind of sucked into it.
- 24:28Yeah, that was. It was a cool thing about this
- 24:30movie because I was familiar with it, but really whenever I
- 24:34heard about it and nothing about it sounded interesting to me.
- 24:36It was kind of one of those that like I was like, well, I'll
- 24:39probably watch it eventually. And then we started getting
- 24:42close to October and I was like maybe we should save it as a
- 24:45potential for that and. Then so yeah, I'm really happy
- 24:48that because like now that I've watched it, I'm like, oh, why
- 24:51did I think that this would have been lame?
- 24:52I love this Halloween night broadcasts.
- 24:54Like shit going down type shit. I loved it.
- 24:57I absolutely get the hype and another thing is that I was
- 25:01afraid we were gonna see a lot of the deal making, but I'm glad
- 25:04that it's contained as like the episode itself and also like a
- 25:08mini documentary about what happened with the episode.
- 25:11I like that format. That was cool, Yeah.
- 25:13They presented it as if it's like you get, yeah, that many
- 25:17documentary like, here are all the details and the bits of
- 25:21information that you'll need for this to make sense.
- 25:24And it kind of reminds me cuz like watching it, you also have
- 25:28the sense like if I was an audience member at home, it
- 25:31makes me think of that broadcast they did in Britain.
- 25:33And like I wanna say it was like the 90s where it was a.
- 25:37The sage thing, yeah, Ghost watch I think is what it's
- 25:40called. Ghost Watch, where like they
- 25:42presented it as though it was like a real like documentary
- 25:45where they're going to this family's house to like see their
- 25:49haunting possession. And it got to the point like
- 25:52that people were actually terrified.
- 25:54There was a warning at the beginning of it, but so many
- 25:56people missed that. Yeah, if you tune in, that's how
- 25:58you. Guys know and they thought this
- 26:00stuff was really happening and it caused like a public panic.
- 26:03And I was like sitting here thinking about that watching
- 26:05this, like if I was at home seeing all of this, I would be
- 26:08like, wow, it's really cool that they managed to put this
- 26:10together for live TV. Like that's what I would be
- 26:12doing in my head. Yeah, yeah, it was really cool.
- 26:17Also, that caused the guy to kill himself.
- 26:20That whole thing, do you remember?
- 26:22That was part of like, one of like the little things that we
- 26:24watched. Oh my God, yes.
- 26:26Oh yeah, Guy got like too caught up in the whole thing.
- 26:28He actually was like. Oh shit, yeah, yeah, it was.
- 26:30And it's dark. Yeah, that's part of that's one
- 26:33of the reasons why you don't do that shit.
- 26:34Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:36So all. Right.
- 26:37Bad. Oh man.
- 26:40Well, it's hard to say what is bad about this.
- 26:44It's really hard to pick something bad, you know what I
- 26:47mean? Yeah.
- 26:49I got, I guess it got like a little familiar and
- 26:54stereotypical when you brought like the little possessed girl
- 26:57out and it was basically like a rehashing of shit from The
- 27:00Exorcist. Yeah.
- 27:02You know, like if you could have given like a different, like,
- 27:04flavor to it, something that's new, I think that would have
- 27:08benefited it a little bit more. But I mean, it was just so like,
- 27:13yeah, this is like, I've seen this character like 5,000,000
- 27:16times already. Like it's not really fresh or
- 27:19anything. Everybody else here is kind of
- 27:21bringing some freshness to it. And then this right here is
- 27:24like, OK, whatever, you know? Yeah, it was the least, it was
- 27:28the least entertaining part. I liked every like all the other
- 27:30stuff too. Honestly my favorite part about
- 27:33the about Lily was when she wasn't actively being possessed.
- 27:37She was creepy on her own. Yeah.
- 27:38Yeah. I would have liked to have had
- 27:40that explored more, yeah. Yeah, I'd say my my least
- 27:45favorite part and where I think it like it kind of falls short
- 27:48for me is the ending where it drops that feeling of being like
- 27:51a mini broadcast documentary type thing.
- 27:54Because we go into. Jack's head and we see his
- 27:58confusion, which explains why he ends up doing what he does but.
- 28:02I forgot about that from. Like the?
- 28:06Way it's presented to us, we're supposed to be watching the
- 28:09footage. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:10The vehicle that the story is coming through, it doesn't make
- 28:13sense. You're right.
- 28:14Yeah, that is true. That's a that's a really good,
- 28:16bad one right there, because I would have liked for it to have
- 28:19stayed strictly TV format. Yeah, like what?
- 28:22What was it that the rest of the like country thought of when
- 28:26they saw this? Yeah.
- 28:28What was the general reaction to it?
- 28:30That's what I would have liked to know.
- 28:32And I know that that like probably ruins like that tension
- 28:35that you have right there at the end.
- 28:37So they probably wanted to keep that feeling going.
- 28:40But I would have liked to keep the format the same.
- 28:42I don't even need to see the reactions.
- 28:44I just wanted to still remain a live broadcast, you know,
- 28:48instead of just going into, like, a weird dream territory.
- 28:51Yeah. Yeah, I like that better.
- 28:53Is it bad? OK.
- 28:55All right. Ugly.
- 28:57OK, I guess. There was a lot of controversy
- 29:02with. This there was controversy about
- 29:04the AI thing. All right, I know a lot of
- 29:05people will say that it was blown out of proportion and
- 29:07whatever. Yeah, it was like a 2 second.
- 29:09So like the little bumpers that they did.
- 29:10I love the bumpers, by the way. That was like a good.
- 29:13I like how they were Halloween themes, so they were cool.
- 29:16There was one of them that was generated through AI and that
- 29:20caused a lot of controversy. There's a lot of people that
- 29:22straight up boycotted this movie because of that.
- 29:26And here's The thing is that I heard about this and I did not
- 29:31realize it was literally just a flash on the screen.
- 29:34Yeah, However, it's like what you said when we were watching
- 29:40this. It is such a slippery.
- 29:42It's a slippery if you give give an inch to take a mile type
- 29:45thing like. And that was part of what the
- 29:46SAG after strikes were about was because of studios wanting to
- 29:50use AI. And we're not even just talking
- 29:53about things like this, which puts artists out of work, but
- 29:56also like they want to like use AI to generate like scenes and
- 30:01voice overs and stuff from actors without them actually
- 30:04being in the studio. So.
- 30:05They don't fucking background characters.
- 30:07Yeah, you'd be like, no more extras, shit like that.
- 30:10And it's not first of all like that just devoids art of any
- 30:17soul to. All mediums, yeah.
- 30:18Like that's the thing to me. Like, I get it.
- 30:20It was one like a little quick illustration there, but that was
- 30:23somebody that could have like earned money for the craft right
- 30:26there. And by doing that, you took that
- 30:29away from them. And I don't care if it's a small
- 30:32indie production. I don't care if it was only on
- 30:34there for like one second. Like that was still a thing that
- 30:39you use AI for? I fucking hate AI being used in
- 30:42this shit. A lot of Indies don't pay their
- 30:45extras. At all, Yeah.
- 30:49A lot of Indies pay very little to the actual like crew members,
- 30:53if at all like. You probably could have asked
- 30:56somebody to Draw Something and they would have done it for
- 30:58free. That's how a lot of people get
- 31:00their start, get their entry into the business, is by getting
- 31:04involved in these Indies. Yeah, I mean.
- 31:06Having something. Even something like that you
- 31:08could have like been like just a small amount, like I don't know,
- 31:11I'll give you 100 bucks for it and somebody be like, fine,
- 31:13whatever. I can use this as my like for My
- 31:16Portfolio. Yes, like I'll be like, hey, I
- 31:18have a thing that's in the movie here.
- 31:20You know, I've only made fifty to 100 bucks on it, but I can
- 31:23claim that like my work has been used in films at this point.
- 31:27More than anything, art needs to remain art, and it can't be done
- 31:31if it is created by AI. Yeah.
- 31:33So while I don't agree with the straight of boycott of this
- 31:37movie because I feel like there was a lot more put into it and
- 31:40yes, it's a fantastic movie, so don't let that ruin it for you.
- 31:44It's fair to condemn this movie for that.
- 31:47Like shame it for that right there, because that wasn't a
- 31:50cool thing to do. Y'all, That wasn't good.
- 31:52I don't like that. Yeah, absolutely.
- 31:54All right, what's your ugly? Oh, that was you just.
- 31:58Yeah, I. Figured we were doing that
- 31:59together. OK, I'm, I'm good with that.
- 32:01All right? Absurd.
- 32:03Again, he You want me to go first?
- 32:05Oh, yeah, sorry, sorry. There was a moment in the
- 32:10opening there when they are interviewing the audience and
- 32:13there's this fucking guy, Barry that they interview.
- 32:16And I swear to the guy, this guy is giving his audition to become
- 32:19the next talk show host up there.
- 32:20Because this guy is just straight up like tearing down
- 32:23Gus, tearing down Jack, all that shit.
- 32:26Do you remember who I'm talking about?
- 32:28This guy, my older sister and I went to go see Spam a lot a few
- 32:32years ago and there was a guy behind us the whole time who was
- 32:36like the musical theater version of this because he was laughing
- 32:39way too loud at all of the jokes and occasionally like why am I
- 32:43not in this? Is that what he was saying?
- 32:46Verbatim. Yeah.
- 32:48That's. And like, honestly, because she
- 32:51was, my sister was also very pregnant at that point and I
- 32:54thought the pregnancy hormones were going to overcome her and I
- 32:56was going to have to bail her out of jail.
- 32:58Like it was obnoxious. And we're like, we can get it.
- 33:02You like spam a lot? We get it.
- 33:04You get the joke. Yeah, you really get it.
- 33:07You're so plugged into the source material that you just
- 33:11are above everybody else in this.
- 33:13Yeah, that's the. Energy noticed.
- 33:15You want everybody to know that you like, you're so good at
- 33:18this. Like, I get it.
- 33:18And that's this. That's Barry.
- 33:20Yes, exactly. Whenever I saw him, I was like,
- 33:22fuck this guy. Fuck you, Barry, sit the fuck
- 33:25down. This isn't your show.
- 33:26This is Halloween. I want to bring up the medium.
- 33:29I want to see the guy vomiting black goo.
- 33:31Yeah, give me that. I didn't really want the
- 33:33vomiting black goo, but I wanted to watch him make his like,
- 33:35really poor attempts at guesses. I also love that this is like a
- 33:39theme that he has for his show, that that would be the talk show
- 33:41that I would like. You know what I mean?
- 33:43Like, I don't know. None of the guys do this shit
- 33:45now. They, like, maybe have, like, a
- 33:47Halloween decoration on, but like, you bring on a fucking
- 33:49medium. Yeah, you bring on like a
- 33:51magician that's there to call out all this shit.
- 33:53That's cool. That's like creating like some
- 33:55good conflict right there. Exactly like that was so smartly
- 33:58done because like we get the little bit of spooky for the
- 34:00people that believe in that, but we also get like the skepticism
- 34:03for the other half of the audience and it just creates
- 34:06like an internal conflict that makes something interesting to
- 34:09watch. Yeah, exactly.
- 34:11I thought it was a really cool. Yeah.
- 34:12I want people to actually do this.
- 34:14Yes, I would have loved this show.
- 34:16Honestly. It would have been amazing.
- 34:18I would have tuned in every Halloween for this show.
- 34:21So. OK, sorry.
- 34:22That was my story though. What's yours?
- 34:24That he made a deal with the devil and still didn't make it
- 34:26to #1. I know, right?
- 34:29Should have sucked that Dick, man.
- 34:30I don't know. I don't have to tell you, Satan.
- 34:32Satan is AI mean. He's Satan for a reason.
- 34:35Yeah, you know, you have to do shit like.
- 34:38That yeah, he's double dealing and you always got to sweeten
- 34:40the putt. Yeah, exactly.
- 34:44You got honey, Dick. Moral of the story?
- 34:46Suck Satan's Dick. Yeah, Satan will honey Dick you.
- 34:50That's the moral of the story right there.
- 34:53OK, oh God, we need to stop talking about Satan's penis.
- 34:56OK, so what's yours? What's your rating?
- 34:59Man, this movie was awesome. I'll give it a nine.
- 35:02I'm gonna give it a nine and a half.
- 35:04OK, Yeah, cuz I just, I think it was just, it was, I was not
- 35:08expecting to like it as much as I did.
- 35:10Same man. It caught me so off guard, but I
- 35:12loved it. Yeah, it was.
- 35:13Fantastic. Yeah.
- 35:16So it was starting average of 9.25.
- 35:18I think that's really good and I think this movie deserves it.
- 35:20So, all right, cool. All right, well, let's let's get
- 35:23into this broadcast. We start off with Travis getting
- 35:28very angry about the number of production logos.
- 35:30Oh God. It's not part of the movie, but
- 35:32it was part of my movie watching experience.
- 35:34There were. Ten maybe.
- 35:38It went on for maybe 5 minutes. I I'm not even exaggerating.
- 35:41When the movie finally started, I was really hoping it was
- 35:43another production logo because I just, I wanted him to like
- 35:46completely lose his shit. It's.
- 35:47A valid criticism, then. It opens with the opening of the
- 35:52violent 70s, so we get like a just a whole recap of how shit
- 35:57was going to hell in the 70s. There's all kinds of riots and
- 36:01politics and all of this shit. But don't worry because April
- 36:054th, 1971 Jack Delroy with his Night Owls can't premiered and
- 36:09came to save the day. Yeah.
- 36:12So it also mentions how he is associated with the Grove, which
- 36:17is like I can't remember the actual.
- 36:21There's an actual group like this in real life, I just can't
- 36:28remember the actual term for it. I'm picturing the thing, Graham.
- 36:33The Simpsons. So we do.
- 36:36I mean, we do. Kinda, yeah.
- 36:38It's something like that. I'm pretty sure there's a real
- 36:39thing where they all go out into a forest and it's like whatever.
- 36:42Like they do shit and it's all like a bunch of famous people.
- 36:46Yeah. Apparently he always denies that
- 36:47it's anything like that, but the show starts to become successful
- 36:51and he actually ends up signing A5 year deal in November of
- 36:531972. He's married to Madeline Piper
- 36:57and they're just like a well regarded couple.
- 36:59Everybody's like they're so cute and non-toxic.
- 37:02Love them. That's great.
- 37:03They're genuine, I think. Yeah, I guess like they
- 37:05actually, you can tell they actually like each other.
- 37:08So through Four Seasons, he's gotten a lot of nominations, no
- 37:11wins. The ratings are high, but
- 37:13they're still not as high as Carson.
- 37:15Then in 1976, his wife is diagnosed with terminal lung
- 37:18cancer despite never having smoked a day in her life, and he
- 37:22has her on near the end of her life.
- 37:24And it's the highest rated episode in the show's history.
- 37:27Oh, can I just say her acting here, her it's very much the
- 37:33black lung acting like the black glung.
- 37:37Yeah, that's how she's delivering the line.
- 37:40So you're like. I don't I don't know what lung
- 37:44terminal lung cancer sounds like so.
- 37:46OK, maybe it's not fair for me to make Yeah, but at the same
- 37:48time it didn't seem good. Yeah.
- 37:52However, Despite that being the highest rated episode, it's
- 37:54still one point below Cars. Yes.
- 37:57I'm glad that that's still a priority.
- 38:00He she ends up dying two weeks later and he flees New York and
- 38:04then returns to here one month later, which a lot of people
- 38:08were critical of, but I also kind of fucking get it cuz.
- 38:13A month away. Sometimes, I mean, a month is
- 38:18such a short time to deal with that kind of loss, but at the
- 38:20same time, sometimes you just need something to distract you.
- 38:25Yeah, you like having that normalcy can help, you know,
- 38:28pull you back in. But yeah, you need that time to
- 38:32mourn. I think it's kind of weird for
- 38:34people to criticize somebody doing that because that's such a
- 38:37huge moment. I remember when people were
- 38:40surprised that I came back to work as early as I did, I was
- 38:43like, well, it's that or sit alone in my house with my own
- 38:46thoughts. So I am here.
- 38:49Yeah, yeah, it's, it's not an easy decision.
- 38:51Then it's it doesn't deserve any criticism.
- 38:55Yeah, everybody grieves differently.
- 38:56And yeah, you know, this is also very much a job where taking too
- 39:00long of a break can really affect how long you have the
- 39:04job. Which ultimately he's having
- 39:06crashing numbers here. Everybody's going terribly.
- 39:09So he's finally, he's scrambling.
- 39:12He's doing more and more exaggerated acts.
- 39:14Yeah, he's kind of getting like, I guess similar to like, I
- 39:20wouldn't say Howard Stern's, but I know like Arsenio.
- 39:23Yeah, that's actually what I was thinking of because Arsenio
- 39:25Holland, near the end of his run, he was bringing on more and
- 39:28more like controversial. Yeah, it was.
- 39:29Just to the point like where crew were leaving because they
- 39:32disagreed with it. Exactly.
- 39:33Yeah. So it was kind of like he was
- 39:35kind of becoming that, just bringing wacky people in just to
- 39:37try and get ratings, and it was just not really going well.
- 39:41But he always had these awesome Halloween episodes.
- 39:44Yeah. So they were planning for a
- 39:45really, really big Halloween episode to maybe save the show
- 39:48this time. Sweeps Week, October 31st, 1977.
- 39:54So he starts with his like little bit at the beginning he's
- 39:57scaring Gus. His Gus is like, yeah, he tries
- 40:01to introduce him and he like, sneaks up behind him and it
- 40:03feels very like, again, they capture the feel of these types
- 40:07of shows. I liked it.
- 40:08Yeah, it was. I like this opening because, you
- 40:10know, he's like, he's calling him and he's not at the door.
- 40:12And he, like, appears with him with a little ghost sheet and he
- 40:15Spooks him. Yeah.
- 40:16So he starts going on into his little opening monologue.
- 40:20Yeah, and he's very transparent about it being sleeps week and
- 40:23rating. And he was like, but honestly,
- 40:25what really matters is you, all the audience, you've made this,
- 40:28you know, a wonderful six years for me or whatever.
- 40:33And then he introduces his 1st guest, which is the medium
- 40:35Christu. Yeah, Oh yeah.
- 40:38So we got psychics, exorcist, mediums, we got all kinds of
- 40:41shit. But First off, we have Christu
- 40:43and he's the medium. They have him speak with spirits
- 40:47there. Yeah, so this I thought, I
- 40:50really love that they bring the skeptic on afterwards because as
- 40:53soon as he he starts doing his medium bit like these are, it's
- 40:58really just about being able to read the crowd.
- 41:00They did it. They did it perfectly here.
- 41:02So like here he's like I'm hearing APP Peter, Peter Pete
- 41:06Peterson and then one guest like gets up and he's like re meaning
- 41:11Peter Mann. That's, that's my wife's maiden
- 41:14name. And he goes, ah, she's past.
- 41:16He goes no, she ran off with the neighbor.
- 41:18Fucking Barry. This is Barry here.
- 41:20He's really trying his hardest to like just one up everybody
- 41:24and be like a fucking showman. Yeah, how you play Barry?
- 41:28Not either. So yeah, he he just kind of rips
- 41:32over there with Barry for a minute and then he's like, OK,
- 41:34I'm getting another one. I'm getting Eddie, Eddie.
- 41:37And then someone's like Edmund. So he goes over there.
- 41:40It's two women. It's a mom and a daughter, 20
- 41:43and the brother slash son Edmund, He took his life and
- 41:49they have like this real like emotional moment and it's very
- 41:52touching either way, regardless if if you believe the what's.
- 41:57Happening or not? Yeah.
- 41:59He says I'm hearing Papa. And then the daughter was like,
- 42:03no, we didn't really call him Papa.
- 42:05And then the mom was like, actually, he had a stuffed teddy
- 42:08bear that was saying Papa, and it was his favorite toy.
- 42:12And the guy's like, oh, well. Or she's like, let him know.
- 42:16Tell him that Papa is so OK. He's like, he knows it's OK.
- 42:21He's talking to the ghost. Yeah.
- 42:23And they start to go to commercial, but then Chris, you
- 42:26has this like really intense reaction, way different than
- 42:28what we've seen before. And he's like, there's a mini
- 42:32has somebody please, we've got a call from a mini.
- 42:35Yeah, it's like a big headache. I'm picturing a man, an
- 42:38unmarried man, with a wedding ring.
- 42:40Please accept this. Please accept this.
- 42:43But then they go to break. I thought, like, a really cool
- 42:45hint about how this was real when this happened was whenever,
- 42:49like, the camera flickers. Yeah, the TV screen flickers a
- 42:52little bit. So you're like, you know,
- 42:53something supernatural actually happened.
- 42:55Yeah. And also like one of the lights
- 42:56busts up top or something like that.
- 42:58Or is our favorite drinking game, Website says.
- 43:01A paranormal record? Yeah.
- 43:04Exactly. So then we go on break and we
- 43:06get the behind the scenes shots. Gus, you know, is talking about
- 43:10how the band and him are very nervous of like what is planned
- 43:13for the show. Christu is like he's real tired.
- 43:17He's not looking good at all. It's agitated.
- 43:21Yeah, and Jack is nervous. Like he's just, he's nervous in
- 43:24general about the show and he hasn't really said yet.
- 43:28But the thing with Chris do got him spooked.
- 43:31Yeah, also his his I guess manager.
- 43:35Yeah, the producer, Leo, yeah, he is very concerned about their
- 43:38sponsors cuz one of them is sitting up front.
- 43:42And one of them is also the head of the network.
- 43:44Or something like. That, yeah.
- 43:45And the people that will save the show are there, so they need
- 43:49to impress and entertain. So he's really pressuring him to
- 43:52do so. They come back next guest is
- 43:55Carmichael Haig, who is a magician and a skeptic.
- 43:59He tests claims of the paranormal with his group and
- 44:01they have a $500,000 reward for anybody who can provide
- 44:05definitive proof of the supernatural.
- 44:08Yeah, he's part of IF SIP Investigative Paranormal
- 44:11Activity, something sector. Oh yeah, something like that.
- 44:19Yeah, they investigate paranormals that occur.
- 44:22Yeah, basically, yeah. Christu is like during all of
- 44:26this, like he's coughing a lot and he's like trying to drink
- 44:28some water. And he ends up throwing water in
- 44:30Chris Carmichael's face and he tries to storm off, but Jack
- 44:35stops him. And he's like, hey, that reading
- 44:37before I was that that might have been for me cuz Minnie was
- 44:41a private nickname that I had my wife.
- 44:44And then Christu goes. Yeah, just straight up black
- 44:50bombs all over Carmichael. Yeah.
- 44:53And then they go to commercial. Yeah.
- 44:55And at the break Carmichael accuses he accuses Jack of
- 45:01collusion basically because he says that this was clearly
- 45:07planned between him and Christu cause of the whole mini thing.
- 45:12Yeah, Yeah. You're saying that he like,
- 45:13planted all that stuff? And then he tries to ask if he
- 45:15can get an in at the Grove. He's like, you're a member,
- 45:18right? Like, you know.
- 45:20Yeah, yeah, You know this fucking guy, He's a sweezy guy.
- 45:23Yeah, so. Oh God, this guy, he plays it so
- 45:26perfectly too. Yeah, so back from break they
- 45:30got the next guest. He he's off saying mini script
- 45:34came across his desk about a month ago.
- 45:37As he's doing it like sirens are happening too.
- 45:40Oh yeah. Yeah, it's about conversations
- 45:43with the devil is what it's called, and it's about this
- 45:45woman who is a parapsychologist that has a client named Lily, a
- 45:51little girl that is possessed and she has, well, that's not
- 45:54the term that they use, but yeah, essentially it's just like
- 45:58a log, like a journal of all that shit.
- 45:59So basically what happened was there was a cult and they
- 46:04believed in communicating with the devil and they often tried
- 46:07to get people possessed. And Lily was one of those people
- 46:10that was possessed and during a ritual of some sort the house
- 46:14ended up burning down and she was the only survivor.
- 46:17Yeah, and they have a recording of their first session.
- 46:22So basically it just starts with her asking her questions and
- 46:26immediately devolves into like screams and shit and like it's
- 46:29just that it goes bad. They come out, June and Lily do,
- 46:33and they are dressed like Janet from the Good Place.
- 46:36Yeah. And she is, she's kind of
- 46:40unnerving in the way that like young children plus like a lot
- 46:45of really intense trauma can do. Like it's it's very well written
- 46:50and well acted. She's staring directly at the
- 46:52camera and talking. She's not looking at the people
- 46:55that she's having a conversation with.
- 46:56And she also immediately brings up Jack's dead wife.
- 46:59It's like, I'm sorry to hear that, you know, making him very
- 47:02uneasy. Yeah.
- 47:03So they take a break after they've all been introduced.
- 47:06And June pulls Jack aside, and she's like, hey, Lily has become
- 47:10more unpredictable. I really don't think we should
- 47:11go through with what you were wanting to do.
- 47:13And he's like, you said you were ready.
- 47:15We've got to do this. Also before this, like when he
- 47:18was walking off, he's like, all right, let's do makeup.
- 47:20And then in like a weird demonic voice, Lily looks over at Jack
- 47:24is like, aren't I already pretty Jack?
- 47:26And then he's like, yeah, yeah, sure.
- 47:28Whatever. I don't know if there was like
- 47:30the demon talking or if that was many being channeled through her
- 47:34or something. Or just like abrupt traumatized
- 47:37little girl. Yeah, it just, it wasn't a
- 47:39natural. There are a lot of options.
- 47:40Yeah, there was a lot weird going on there.
- 47:43So Jack and Leo talk. Leo tells Jack that Christu died
- 47:49of a hemorrhage on the way to Sinai.
- 47:51And Phil, Phil is like, he's the like director of photography or
- 48:00something, I guess. I think he's a showrunner.
- 48:02Yeah. He's like, he's running the
- 48:04cameras, he's like giving everybody cues for when to do
- 48:06shit. And through all of these breaks,
- 48:08he's been saying like, I'm not picking it up.
- 48:11Whatever it is you're saying, I'm not picking it up.
- 48:12And he's saying this again like he's like, I'm not singing out
- 48:15in any of the studio cameras. He's doing this while Gus is
- 48:17trying to like, talk to him because Gus is getting mad
- 48:19because things are changing from the scripts.
- 48:22I feel bad for Gus in this movie.
- 48:24Yeah, Nobody gives Gus any respect and they just are always
- 48:27ignoring him. It just like fucking Gus.
- 48:31I feel bad for the guy. And out on the stage, Carmichael
- 48:33is questioning the mom and daughter and finds out that like
- 48:36a producer had spoken to them and the lobby beforehand.
- 48:39Yeah, they asked like a bunch of questions and stuff like that,
- 48:41Yeah. So they return.
- 48:44June defends her parapsychology like as a study and she points
- 48:49out that she's got a PhD, like she's well educated.
- 48:52She has items that like from their study and that like we're
- 48:57related to Lily's case. Lily calls the demon inside of
- 49:01her Mr. Wriggles. Sound like a dog name.
- 49:04I love it. Yeah, and then the music gets
- 49:07like really loud and everybody gets freaked out.
- 49:10And then Carmichael's like, it's just feedback.
- 49:13No from. Your system, it was the fucking
- 49:15musical instrument that you don't touch.
- 49:17I can't remember what it's called but Gus was over there
- 49:19playing it in the intro too. Yeah, but like there was also
- 49:22like a feedback. Oh yeah, there's a so when?
- 49:24He goes and unplugs it. It ends it.
- 49:27So Lily says it was Mr. Wriggles clearly, and Jack asks.
- 49:33Ask why the name is Mr. Wriggles.
- 49:35OK, And then she says, because he wriggles himself up in my
- 49:38head and then he'll wriggle himself out.
- 49:40Yeah. And then Jack's like, would you
- 49:42mind if we invite him to talk to us?
- 49:44And June's like, it's not a conducive environment.
- 49:47And then eventually she relents when he was like, we'll get the
- 49:50audience to be very cooperative. She peer pre, he peer pressures
- 49:54her into it hard. Yeah, I get it.
- 49:56This whole time is also Lily's been making her feel super
- 50:00awkward because she keeps saying June thinks you're very
- 50:03handsome, Jack very, very handsome.
- 50:06You can tell how like bashful and nervous this is making her
- 50:08like. I mean, yeah, for real though, I
- 50:11could see that. Yeah, that's, like, that's
- 50:13embarrassing. Yeah.
- 50:15OK. So she reluctantly agrees to go
- 50:17through with it as long as everybody in the audience
- 50:20complies. Everybody on set has to go by
- 50:23her rules. Yeah.
- 50:24So they cut to break June tears Jack down.
- 50:28Yeah. Like, how dare you do that to
- 50:30me? She knows exactly what he was
- 50:32doing and she was kind of put backed into a corner where she
- 50:35felt like she couldn't say no. Yeah, Gus is also very pissed
- 50:38because he's like, we're messing with shit we don't need to be
- 50:41messing with. The crew is scared.
- 50:42They're threatening to walk off. Yeah, he's like, you're meddling
- 50:45with shit that you don't understand.
- 50:47Jack. I like how he was like, look,
- 50:49because like Jack tried to like, boil him up to.
- 50:51He's like, Jack, I need to talk to you.
- 50:52He's like, not now, Gus. He's like Jack now He's like,
- 50:55I'm tired. This shit.
- 50:56No respect. Blots his face with his.
- 51:00Yeah. So yeah, he's like, by the way,
- 51:04I know Mr. Riggles killed Christu.
- 51:06And because like before, whenever the news is broken, the
- 51:09drag, it's like you can't tell Gus.
- 51:10Gus is going to flip a shit about this.
- 51:12Yeah. So yeah, he knows about it.
- 51:15So they cut back to the show. The session begins with Lily.
- 51:18Yeah, Lily is restrained and June explains that Lily is like
- 51:23the demons entry to the world and she tells the audience that
- 51:25no matter what happens, they have got to remain calm.
- 51:30That is not going to fucking. Happen.
- 51:32No, not at all. But it happens.
- 51:35He wriggles himself back in here, comes to ask who, what,
- 51:40where, why is everything? And then he like, yeah, it's
- 51:44like, good to see you again, Jack.
- 51:45And Jack's like, I don't think we've been acquainted.
- 51:47And he was like, we met among the tall trees.
- 51:51And then he kind of implies an affair between June and Jack and
- 51:55then starts doing like the vulgar demon in a child's body
- 51:59thing. Jack and Jill went up the hill
- 52:01and fucked each other's braids. Yeah, and this gets June so fed
- 52:05up that she slaps her. Yeah.
- 52:06And then like, she's like June, why would you slap me like that?
- 52:11And June immediately is like, oh, fuck.
- 52:13And then she tries to comfort her.
- 52:14But I saw the demon. Yeah, yeah.
- 52:18And like, she's like trying to do the exorcism shit.
- 52:21Where she. She's across.
- 52:22She's speaking. Some Latin at her and it doesn't
- 52:24really work. And then the chair starts to
- 52:26levitate, and then it falls. And then Lily is back to being
- 52:29Lily, and she's crying. And June is apologizing.
- 52:32And Carmichael starts to protest everything that happened.
- 52:36But they cut to ads. And at the break, they cut Lily
- 52:39free. And they're like, are you OK?
- 52:41And she's like, I'm a bit embarrassed.
- 52:44Yeah, which I feel really bad. She's 13.
- 52:46She's 10. Isn't no 1310 when they found
- 52:50her? Yeah.
- 52:51She's had such a hard fucking life and now she's being like
- 52:54exploited. On TV, Yeah.
- 52:55Can you imagine? That's got to be terrible, so.
- 52:59Oh, and her doctor is her legal guardian, and I feel like that
- 53:01crosses all kinds of ethical boundaries that we didn't have
- 53:04healthily established in the 70s.
- 53:06That was so weird that they revealed that.
- 53:09But like, it cuts to break and Jack takes June aside.
- 53:12He's like June. This was fucking huge.
- 53:15I want to be a part of this. This can be a regular spot on
- 53:17the show. And she's like, how about you
- 53:20tell me about them tall trees first, Jack?
- 53:23Yeah, yeah. And then Gus is pleading to Leo,
- 53:26and Leo is like, do your job. You're the wacky sidekick.
- 53:29You get picked on. Yeah.
- 53:30It's like, if you like, I don't want to hear a fucking word from
- 53:33you again. If you say one more word, you're
- 53:34fucking out of here. I don't think I would want to
- 53:36work for Leo. No, fuck this guy.
- 53:38I feel bad for Gus. Gus seems like a real 1.
- 53:41And Gus tells Carmichael that Chris stews dead.
- 53:43I'm just waiting for Carmichael to stir all kinds of shit up at
- 53:45this point because he's been getting all like he's a little
- 53:49weasel. He is, yeah.
- 53:52Like, I get it, he wants to have like scientific proof and I
- 53:56respect that, but he's doing it in a weaselly way.
- 53:59Yeah, so Leo goes over to Jack and he's like Jack.
- 54:02Three of the crew have already walked off or walked off, but
- 54:07the execs love it. Yes, keep this shit up.
- 54:10You're getting so many positive reactions from sponsors.
- 54:13We want this to keep going. So they return and June says
- 54:17that she and Lily are family and she tries to like, reach for
- 54:20Lily to comfort her. And Lily, like, visibly like,
- 54:22pulls away from her. Yeah, I got a quote from her.
- 54:24She's like, I'm asleep. But they asked like, what is,
- 54:27what's it like whenever Mr. Wriggles is inside you?
- 54:30And she says it's like I'm asleep but awake at the same
- 54:32time. To which I say dreams.
- 54:35Like, I mean, to me that just seems like you're dreaming, but
- 54:37who am I? I've never been wriggled.
- 54:40So your Betty needs a good wriggling once in a while to
- 54:44really understand their their place in the.
- 54:46Universe. So this is when Carmichael calls
- 54:49out the event. He's like, OK, I know exactly
- 54:51what happened here. I can 100% prove that that was
- 54:56all a show. So June.
- 54:59He's like, this was hypnosis. Yeah, that's all it was, was
- 55:01group hypnosis. And he wants to demonstrate with
- 55:04Gus. And Gus is like, absolutely
- 55:05fucking lutely not. And Leo backstage points a gun
- 55:08at him. So he he ends up agreeing, goes
- 55:12over there and you know, he's doing the very like
- 55:15stereotypical magician look at my wall.
- 55:18And. Yeah, and he's having the
- 55:19audience do it. Too, I like that too.
- 55:20They they broadcast it to everybody so like they get the
- 55:23close up so the audience at home gets hypnotized.
- 55:26The audience and the studio does everybody there is even Jack and
- 55:29them. Yeah, And he was like, oh, when
- 55:31did you develop this fear of worms?
- 55:32And he goes, they're just gross. They're creepy.
- 55:34Who wouldn't be afraid of worms? Yeah, How did you know about
- 55:36that? And then he starts getting
- 55:39really hot and itchy. So, yeah, and then he so he
- 55:44starts to like take off his shirt and he's like, it's
- 55:48getting hot in here that. Is in fact a shirt.
- 55:50So take off all your clothes, you went full of Nelly.
- 55:54Get in too hot. Now I've got these worms.
- 55:58Oh, shit, I got a cut on my neck.
- 56:00Yeah. And he's like, what happened
- 56:02there? And he's like, oh, yeah, I did
- 56:03myself shaved this morning. And then he starts to like,
- 56:05touch it, and he pulls a worm out of his.
- 56:07Cut. I'm sorry, but also when we went
- 56:10to see Terror Fire 3 the next day and we had the ad for Flight
- 56:15Risk and Marky Mark has a cut. Yeah, neck.
- 56:19And I was like, where's the worm?
- 56:21Yeah, yeah. So he starts like doing that and
- 56:24then he opens up his shirt all the way, exposing this full
- 56:28blown tummy. And then he like takes it, rips
- 56:31his stomach and worms just fall out and everybody in there
- 56:36seeing it, everybody freaks the fuck out.
- 56:39And then he's like he's having his whole meltdown.
- 56:43And it goes on for like about 30 seconds and then suddenly
- 56:46Carmichael just snaps his fingers and then everybody snaps
- 56:49to discuss, is looking like a fool on his hands and knees on
- 56:53the floor. Pork does I feel so bad for.
- 56:56Him, he says. I have never been so embarrassed
- 56:59in my entire life. And you know he meant it.
- 57:01Yeah, well, because everybody's confused because, like,
- 57:04everybody saw that shit, so they're like, OK.
- 57:06With the tongue of Preston Lacey in Jackass Forever.
- 57:10Yeah, I'm. 50 years old and I just shoot my pants.
- 57:13Yeah, exactly. OK.
- 57:15So that's like they're like, OK, so let's re watch the footage
- 57:19and then I will show you exactly what you guys just experienced.
- 57:22And then we see the playback of him and doing all the
- 57:26suggestions. He's like, you're getting a
- 57:28little hot there and he's like, God, it's really hot in here.
- 57:31And then he's like, Oh yeah, you, you cut yourself right
- 57:35there. Won't you check it?
- 57:37Pick at it for a little bit. Oh, there's a worm there, you
- 57:39know, and whatever. And you can tell these are all
- 57:41just things that he suggested and they're all manifestations.
- 57:46That's when Gus is like super embarrassed.
- 57:49And then Lily is like, well, with all due respect, if we saw
- 57:52this on the playback, should we not watch the playback from what
- 57:55happened with me, which is the question I was asking?
- 57:59Great. Question.
- 57:59Yeah. So everybody's like, fuck yeah,
- 58:01fire it up. And Jack's like, well, we've got
- 58:03Cleo ready backstage and she's already missed the past couple
- 58:06episodes, but I think this is more important.
- 58:10I would feel pissed if I was Cleo.
- 58:12She's like, I'm on the Halloween episode.
- 58:13This is going to be killer for my career.
- 58:15And then Jack's like, no, fuck you.
- 58:18She's been brushed off too many times.
- 58:20Yeah, this would be like a relationship.
- 58:22Yeah, we're done. Like I'm going to Carson fuck.
- 58:24It so OK. So they go through the playback
- 58:31frame by frame from what happened and he at one point he
- 58:38says his wife new ghost form behind him and Carmichael is
- 58:42like, OK, well, this is all clearly a setup now.
- 58:44Are you serious? You're bringing back your dead
- 58:47wife from the episode with your highest ratings.
- 58:49That's low. Yeah, he's like he says, like
- 58:52he's still skeptical of this. He's like, you guys did some
- 58:55very clever footage editing. I'll give you credit for that.
- 59:00Like, how the fuck are you? That's just somebody in denial
- 59:02at this point. Yeah, You can't do this type of
- 59:04shit. You know what I mean?
- 59:06Even in real time, they were hearing Lily's voice change in
- 59:09real time in front of them. Yeah, and she's having like a
- 59:12really odd reaction. She starts reacting to the
- 59:14electricity and it's like coming through her hands.
- 59:17She ends up killing Gus and strangles June with her cross
- 59:21necklace until it her slits her throat.
- 59:23Her fucking head splits open. Yeah, creating like a fire face
- 59:27head. I don't even know how to like
- 59:29this is like how you just can't have words to describe exactly
- 59:32what you're experiencing here. But yeah, it takes Gus like,
- 59:36flips his head around, snaps his neck so it's June's throat,
- 59:41burns Carmichael with electricity or something.
- 59:44No, just like straight up Nelson.
- 59:46And Leo pulls Jack off stage. We have like the police stand
- 59:51by. And then it gets to the show
- 59:53opening again and Jack is very confused and all of these like
- 59:57bits that we saw from the beginning going through his time
- 1:00:00on the show, we're reliving all of these clips and he's just
- 1:00:03confused over again. And then?
- 1:00:07We cut to him, cut to the signing from where he got his
- 1:00:12deal and he was like, but what did we have to sacrifice to get
- 1:00:16here? And then we see the cult leader
- 1:00:19Diabo, the one who is responsible for what has
- 1:00:21happened to Lily, and he is getting him to drink from a
- 1:00:25goblet as like people around him are chanting, one of them being
- 1:00:29the audience member from before with the skeleton costume that
- 1:00:32he makes fun of. Yeah, yeah, I was during my
- 1:00:36head, I was running. What did they put in there?
- 1:00:37Because they looked like they were enjoying seeing him drink
- 1:00:39that. Like did they just spit in it or
- 1:00:41shoot? Like what?
- 1:00:42The fuck is he? Drinking.
- 1:00:43I don't know. Then he goes to a room where his
- 1:00:47wife is and this looks very much like a playset like.
- 1:00:51Yeah, I like the way that they did this.
- 1:00:53So it was all seamless. And this is like a sad.
- 1:00:56Yeah, in the movie. Yeah.
- 1:00:57He goes to there to see his wife on her like deathbed.
- 1:01:00And she's like, maybe you didn't know this is what was going to
- 1:01:03happen, but you knew something was going to happen.
- 1:01:05And you're on your own now. Yeah.
- 1:01:07It's like there's one last thing you need to do.
- 1:01:09You know what you need to do, Please do it.
- 1:01:12And it's. Like the dagger that she had or
- 1:01:14whatever was like. From Lily's possessions.
- 1:01:17Yeah, is on the table. So he takes it and then he stabs
- 1:01:20her with it and then we snap back and to.
- 1:01:22Reality. So goes gravity.
- 1:01:25He has killed Lily. It's just, it just ends.
- 1:01:30Yeah. And like, like it pans out and
- 1:01:32he has to just kind of like realize.
- 1:01:33What the fuck's happening? Awake dreamer here.
- 1:01:36Awake what? Does that mean?
- 1:01:38I think he's like thinking that he is maybe still under hypnosis
- 1:01:42himself and is trying to like wake himself up.
- 1:01:44Could be, yeah, but yeah. And then the transmission ends.
- 1:01:48That's how it goes. God this movie is just is so
- 1:01:53good. It really is.
- 1:01:54It's. So good.
- 1:01:55It's tight it. And like, it's one of those
- 1:01:58things that, like, you know, something bad is going to happen
- 1:02:00and you have a very good idea of what is going to happen, but
- 1:02:03it's still like the tension is building the whole time.
- 1:02:06Yeah. And you're waiting to see all of
- 1:02:07these pieces fall in place. Really, I think the strongest
- 1:02:10part, I mean, Jack was great in it and his whole thing like
- 1:02:14piercing together, all the like, having all these guests are like
- 1:02:16the perfect combination to like piece together all the things
- 1:02:19that were coming to get him. But having Carmichael on there
- 1:02:23the entire time, just like tearing the shit down and like
- 1:02:25presenting, like doing the hypnosis thing was so cool too,
- 1:02:28because that got me. I was like, oh shit, it's
- 1:02:30actually happening. And I like that some of it like,
- 1:02:34and you know, he's being like he's planning something to for a
- 1:02:38big gotcha moment. But I do like that we don't
- 1:02:40necessarily see him spill all of that out on screen.
- 1:02:43Like we just see him doing the collections.
- 1:02:45Like we as an audience are still getting an understanding of this
- 1:02:48stuff being set up. But because we're seeing
- 1:02:51everything else playing out, we know something else is
- 1:02:53happening, too. Yeah, like I like how all of his
- 1:02:56stuff there, it's all reasonable explanations for things until
- 1:02:59the end where he's like, oh, you guys are just doing like
- 1:03:02editing, editing, like, no. Yeah, but no, that was awesome.
- 1:03:05I will. I just.
- 1:03:06Yeah, this movie was fantastic. I love the format of it.
- 1:03:10I think I'll make it 925. I'm keeping mine at a 9.5 so it
- 1:03:16is going to be a 9.375 ending average.
- 1:03:21Nice, very strong. All right.
- 1:03:23So the changes. Maybe hire an artist?
- 1:03:29Yeah, get an artist for the bumpers.
- 1:03:30Yeah, all the other ones were awesome.
- 1:03:32I love them. They're great.
- 1:03:33But aside from that, yeah, I, I kind of agreed with you.
- 1:03:37Like the ending. I would have liked for it all to
- 1:03:39have stayed on. Yeah, the screen.
- 1:03:42I don't want it to be going into, like, Jack's weird place,
- 1:03:48you know? It just, I wanted it to be a
- 1:03:51true broadcast. I want this to feel like a
- 1:03:53broadcast through and through, so that would be the only thing
- 1:03:56that I would change for this really.
- 1:03:58OK, that and art. Yeah, I agree with both of
- 1:04:01those. Yeah, as well.
- 1:04:03Talia, goodness, she was, she was restless.
- 1:04:08Yes, she was throwing a tantrum. She was hitting her button.
- 1:04:11She was wandering around the room.
- 1:04:13She she was on Gus's side. Kylie was Team Gus.
- 1:04:16Team Gus, yeah, she's like, they shouldn't be doing this stuff.
- 1:04:19This is bad they. Should not be doing this.
- 1:04:21This is like, they're not being good girls right now, they're
- 1:04:23being bad girls. Yeah, she also, she understands
- 1:04:26his embarrassment any time we talk about the embarrassing
- 1:04:28things. Yeah, when we talk about her
- 1:04:30farting. Yeah, she said.
- 1:04:31Don't do that. I'm so embarrassed.
- 1:04:32She's like in the living room. She's like, really?
- 1:04:34What the fuck? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:38So I think that like she recognizes that it's powers
- 1:04:43beyond control and because of that she thinks it's very scary,
- 1:04:47but she doesn't think that they should have done it in that time
- 1:04:50and place. So she's deducting it points and
- 1:04:52I think she's ultimately going to give it an 8.
- 1:04:54I think she thinks it was a real broadcast.
- 1:04:56She's like, this is an incredible moment in our
- 1:04:58history. Yeah, she's like, we could, we
- 1:04:59could turn this off though. Yeah.
- 1:05:01Also, yeah. Can we please watch Terrifier 2
- 1:05:04now? Yeah, yeah, she was.
- 1:05:06So frustrated because we kept saying we were going to watch
- 1:05:08Terrifier 2 and then we were putting on other things and like
- 1:05:10I'm not even joking that every time something that wasn't
- 1:05:12Terrifier 2 started playing she would like growl at us.
- 1:05:15It's true. She she got really upset with us
- 1:05:18and all of it was my fault because I would started it and I
- 1:05:21was like, no, let's watch the first one.
- 1:05:22She's like, so then there was like a big pause between when we
- 1:05:25actually had to watch the second.
- 1:05:26OK. OK, so Zoe's ultimate warrior.
- 1:05:31Man, I think Willie right. I was gonna say I said
- 1:05:34Carmichael. Oh, why Carmichael?
- 1:05:37He's very persistent and making sure that his viewpoint and only
- 1:05:41his viewpoint is heard and understood.
- 1:05:43He constantly interrupts other people and he's like nosy in
- 1:05:47everybody's business. Oh my God, you're right.
- 1:05:49She is Carmichael 280. God yeah.
- 1:05:54I feel like she would try and hypnotize this like it is food.
- 1:05:58Time, yeah. It is time to eat, yes.
- 1:06:02If she thought it could work, she'd be like, we'll eat
- 1:06:04anything, even worms. Yeah, like, seriously, she tried
- 1:06:08to eat my fake cheese earlier. Didn't like it.
- 1:06:10Yeah, but you know she was gonna try it.
- 1:06:13OK, who drew away to who? Did I really like to?
- 1:06:15I guess honestly, like probably, I think I would probably relate
- 1:06:26to Jack mostly because it seems like he generally agrees with a
- 1:06:31lot of Carmichael stuff. He's a recurring guest.
- 1:06:34So he seems to already kind of like what he brings to the show,
- 1:06:37but he also seems to like believe in like what he can see,
- 1:06:40but he also knows like there's the paranormal stuff out there
- 1:06:44and he believes in that too. So like that kind of like I very
- 1:06:47much, I believe in that kind of stuff, but I also I'm scientific
- 1:06:51by nature. So like I like to see like if I
- 1:06:54can find a reasonable explanation for something, I
- 1:06:56will accept that you know what I.
- 1:06:57Mean, Yeah, I relate to Gus because I liked his approach of
- 1:07:06not not putting up with the bullshit of the business.
- 1:07:09You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 1:07:10Like he was very much like, like, I know that this is what
- 1:07:13you guys are saying, but like, hear me, this is not right.
- 1:07:16This is fucked up. And they just don't fucking care
- 1:07:20what he has to say because they're like selfish assholes
- 1:07:23and they are really just kind of trying to line their own
- 1:07:25pockets. Yeah, but he seemed like a real
- 1:07:271. He wanted to, like, have a good
- 1:07:28show. He, you know he.
- 1:07:30Wanted to have a good show. He's OK with being the
- 1:07:31punchline. Yeah, he can beat the punchline.
- 1:07:34He doesn't have to be the main guy.
- 1:07:35He just has to, you know, he just wants to entertain him and
- 1:07:38he also wants. Some acknowledgement of what he
- 1:07:40brings. Exactly.
- 1:07:41Yeah, yeah. Like he's fine with not being
- 1:07:44the star, but like he wants recognition that he's been fine
- 1:07:47with that. He wants what's owed.
- 1:07:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:07:50What's fair. Yeah.
- 1:07:52I, I like to. I like to.
- 1:07:53The world needs sidekicks. They do, yeah.
- 1:07:57OK, so dream sequel. Oh man, I guess I would want to
- 1:08:04see like maybe a more modern take on this like.
- 1:08:09A different. Version of like, what have
- 1:08:11people sacrificed to get their success?
- 1:08:13Maybe modernize it? Maybe other stories of the
- 1:08:16growth like other people that have had their influence and
- 1:08:20where they burned out. Influencers.
- 1:08:24I think that would be like a real fun.
- 1:08:26Like a modern day thing? Yeah.
- 1:08:28Interesting. I.
- 1:08:29Think it'd be fun to see like a modern version of that, kind of
- 1:08:31like, you know how we watch Dead Stream?
- 1:08:33Like a combination of Dead Stream and Lena with the.
- 1:08:35Devil, do you really think influencers that are going out
- 1:08:37there to the Grove though and so on or so like have a million
- 1:08:40followers, some of them maybe, I guess, yeah, I guess if you're
- 1:08:44trying to modernize it, maybe, maybe like a podcast thing.
- 1:08:49But even then now, yeah, yeah. I don't know.
- 1:08:53There's a lot of things that you could probably do with that.
- 1:08:56But yeah, I guess maybe have like a hint of like what
- 1:09:01happened, like Jack's fade after the fact, since he was, you
- 1:09:03know, alive and he killed a child.
- 1:09:06So, like, right. And they, they have footage of
- 1:09:09it clearly because we watched it.
- 1:09:10So, you know, I want to know the fallouts of that.
- 1:09:13Yeah, all he can do is really like, plead down the charge.
- 1:09:17Like, what kind of murder is it? Is it manslaughter?
- 1:09:19Is it homicide? I liked him so much though that
- 1:09:22I would kind of like to see him more.
- 1:09:25Yeah. You know, I would like a
- 1:09:26straight up sequel. OK.
- 1:09:29Personally for me, OK, I just don't know what that would look
- 1:09:34like. Or maybe it becomes like an
- 1:09:38anthology type series of like similar stories and he gets to
- 1:09:41be in all of them like Devin Sotwa and Chucky.
- 1:09:45Yeah, OK. I'd be OK with that.
- 1:09:46Yeah, that actor was solid. He was one of my favorite parts
- 1:09:49of this movie. Yeah, he fucking killed this.
- 1:09:52Sure. Yeah.
- 1:09:53OK. All right.
- 1:09:55We both get what we want. Yeah, OK.
- 1:09:58I don't want to see him as an influencer though.
- 1:10:01I don't want that. Yeah.
- 1:10:03OK, so now it is time for reviews.
- 1:10:07OK, so I knew generally that we both liked this, so I pulled a
- 1:10:12negative. How did you know that I liked
- 1:10:14it? I did not say a word about it.
- 1:10:17I just had a feeling. I liked it, Therefore he.
- 1:10:21No, I just had a feeling. No, I get you.
- 1:10:24I'm kidding. This is an IMDb user review.
- 1:10:27It's a one out of 10 called. I can see its appeal.
- 1:10:30The first guy on the show reminded me of those
- 1:10:32televangelists who claimed to perform miracles on TV.
- 1:10:34You know, the pastors who supposedly heal people but end
- 1:10:37up often exposed for paying actors to pretend they were
- 1:10:39blind or paralyzed. Watching the performance felt
- 1:10:42like flipping through channels on a 70s talk show being in
- 1:10:45theater. It was as if these people were
- 1:10:46part of an actual live audience with the additive lure of behind
- 1:10:49the scenes footage giving it a documentary or found footage
- 1:10:52vibe. I can see why a lot of people
- 1:10:54enjoy it and if you do, great. The cinematography is good at
- 1:10:58capturing the essence of its era and it draws you into its world.
- 1:11:01However, it's not really a scary story, but it just doesn't fit
- 1:11:05into any other genre besides horror.
- 1:11:07I guess I can appreciate its originality and it's just a
- 1:11:10regular movie, but as a horror film, it sucks to me.
- 1:11:13Horror movies are inherently supposed to evoke fear and make
- 1:11:16you squirm in your seat, but I didn't experience a single
- 1:11:18moment of fright. In my opinion, a horror movie
- 1:11:20must deliver on the scare factor to be considered good, even if
- 1:11:23the production quality, sets, acting, and storyline are all
- 1:11:26exceptional. If it fails to elicit any fear
- 1:11:28to me, it simply sucks ass. I always reassure my easily
- 1:11:32frightened friends that horror movies aren't as terrifying as
- 1:11:34they used to be, aren't even scary at all, and even those
- 1:11:37would have been hesitant to watch horror films their whole
- 1:11:40life come away with the same verdict.
- 1:11:41It's incredibly frustrating when a horror movie is nicely crafted
- 1:11:44but lacks any genuine scares. It pisses me off.
- 1:11:47OK, well I'm glad that you enjoyed the movie itself, but so
- 1:11:53here's my thing. A horror movie doesn't have to
- 1:11:57scare me for it to be a good horror movie.
- 1:12:00And here's the thing, why? It's because the more you get
- 1:12:04into that genre, the more jaded you are, the less scared you get
- 1:12:08at that shit. It's like Chasing the Dragon.
- 1:12:10I see people post online all the time, like why don't movies
- 1:12:12scare me anymore? And it's like, because you've
- 1:12:14watched too many of them. That's always the answer.
- 1:12:16You know what to expect, you've seen the beats, you just got to
- 1:12:19appreciate it for what is. And every now and then you'll
- 1:12:21come across one that actually does freak you out.
- 1:12:23Barbarian was the most recent one for me that had me in my
- 1:12:26seat holding my breath, clenching my fists like.
- 1:12:31The sadness was for me, the sad, like whenever that old woman's
- 1:12:34like handsome boy. Oh my God, I actually had
- 1:12:37goosebumps whenever that happened.
- 1:12:38But and. That didn't scare me the same
- 1:12:40way, but I think it also comes down to the different things
- 1:12:42that scare. Different.
- 1:12:43Exactly. Yeah, it's subjective, but at
- 1:12:45the same time this movie, I agree it's not scary.
- 1:12:48I'm not see but I'm not scared though.
- 1:12:51Because I know something's gonna happen.
- 1:12:53Yeah, it's tense. I'm not scared of this type of
- 1:12:55shit, though. If I take this movie and I show
- 1:12:57it to my dad, my dad would shoot his pants.
- 1:13:00My dad has refused to watch any movie with me that involves
- 1:13:04exorcisms, possessions, anything like that.
- 1:13:07To him, that should. It's too real.
- 1:13:09It freaks him the fuck out. So this movie would be one of
- 1:13:11those ones that's actually scary.
- 1:13:13Yeah. So it's just like a subjective
- 1:13:15thing. Yeah.
- 1:13:16Absolutely. Yeah, it doesn't.
- 1:13:17It doesn't make or break a horror for me, though.
- 1:13:19Like if it's a fun, it's a good movie.
- 1:13:21Like, I'll still say it's a good horror movie.
- 1:13:23Yeah, and it's absolutely valid to say something isn't scary to
- 1:13:25you, but to say it's not scary at all.
- 1:13:28It's just kind of. Presumptuous, but give it a one
- 1:13:30out of 10 rating because of that.
- 1:13:32Like it's like everything about this movie is great
- 1:13:34cinematography, it pulls you in and so, you know, great
- 1:13:36characters, all kinds of that, but it didn't scare me so I'm
- 1:13:38gonna give it a one that just doesn't make much sense.
- 1:13:40Yeah. Wild.
- 1:13:42Yeah, but I Yeah, whatever you do you, buddy, that's fine.
- 1:13:45OK, well, let's let's hop on over to listener reviews then
- 1:13:49why don't we? Yeah, let's.
- 1:13:51See what the Pete's got to say. OK, so our Instagram review is
- 1:13:57from missing Reels. It's our buddy Mike.
- 1:14:01Mike Thompson. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:03What's up, man? Yeah, he's been on the show.
- 1:14:05If you listen to our episode on the Changeling, that would.
- 1:14:07Be Yeah, yeah. So he says.
- 1:14:09Incredibly fun, fresh and well executed.
- 1:14:12Yeah, I do think it was a fun way to do this type of movie.
- 1:14:16I agree. Yeah, I like this little way of
- 1:14:20doing these found footage movies.
- 1:14:22I really, cuz the vote was between this and WNUF Halloween
- 1:14:26special, which is essentially the same thing.
- 1:14:28It's a news broadcast doing like a live Halloween episode or
- 1:14:32whatever. But those are fun to me.
- 1:14:34That just seems like a fun way to like tell a story.
- 1:14:36My biggest thing with found footage is that I want it to
- 1:14:39make sense why it exists. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:14:41A good reason for it helps with that a lot.
- 1:14:43Yeah, those are great reasons. This makes sense why it would
- 1:14:45exist. Yeah, OK, Over on Twitter,
- 1:14:49Doctor Aquile Boob says loved it.
- 1:14:51The retrofill and the dreads slowly slowing grinding, slowly
- 1:14:56grinding up towards the inevitable.
- 1:14:58The hypnosis scene was so trippy.
- 1:15:00The final 10 minutes were a bit anticlimactic, unfortunately,
- 1:15:03and took away from the rest, but I still think it's a great
- 1:15:05movie. Wow.
- 1:15:06I mean, that's exactly what we were saying too.
- 1:15:08Yeah yeah, that hypnosis scene was awesome.
- 1:15:11That tricked me too cuz I thought for sure the shit things
- 1:15:15were finally going off the rails and he.
- 1:15:17Was like saying you're awake, you're awake and then it isn't
- 1:15:20until he snaps but like he has that moment of panic where I'm
- 1:15:22like shit. Yeah, word, Zombie says.
- 1:15:25I really like this movie, love the documentary style and story
- 1:15:28and characters. The only thing I did not like
- 1:15:30was the ending. It broke the entire rest of the
- 1:15:32movie. Wow.
- 1:15:32OK, OK. Yeah, that seems to be We can.
- 1:15:35All agree. Yeah, that's funny.
- 1:15:37Chad says sometimes you see a movie that feels like it was
- 1:15:40specifically made for you, and I've been lucky to have three of
- 1:15:43those this year. And this is so me.
- 1:15:45I love the whole framing of the story, the hinted clandestine
- 1:15:49ties. Clandestine.
- 1:15:50Clandestine. Thank you.
- 1:15:51I'm not good with big words, Chad.
- 1:15:53I'm sorry, the hinted clandestine ties.
- 1:15:56If you haven't heard a word out loud, it's valid.
- 1:15:59I'm not judging. And it goes absolutely bad shit
- 1:16:01at the end. Perfect.
- 1:16:02OK. Chad likes the ending.
- 1:16:04I'm glad Chad likes it. You know, it's for some people,
- 1:16:06it works. Yeah.
- 1:16:08Chad, I want to talk about this more.
- 1:16:09Yeah, see you on the 10th. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:16:12I talked about it a little with him yesterday, but obviously
- 1:16:15didn't have like a huge one because we were focused on
- 1:16:17terror fire. Yeah, the Half Price Horror
- 1:16:20podcast says it's got some flaws.
- 1:16:22There is a little too much foreshadowing in the first act,
- 1:16:24stuff during the ads doesn't feel like it fits, and the third
- 1:16:27act abandons the found footage conceit, but it's hard to hate
- 1:16:31on that stuff when the overall product is so much fun.
- 1:16:33Man I really disagree about the laying the groundwork and the
- 1:16:37ads, but to each their own. Like I can see if you wanted it
- 1:16:42to feel like the broadcast that the audience is getting.
- 1:16:45What ads are they're? Talking about like during the
- 1:16:47breaks, the ad breaks. Oh, I like this stuff too
- 1:16:50because I thought to me it was like world building a little
- 1:16:52bit, like, you know, you're getting more of the story in
- 1:16:54like a organic way instead of them putting on their personas.
- 1:16:58Yeah, yeah. But you know, like if you just
- 1:17:00wanted to straight up personas, I totally get that too.
- 1:17:04OK, that's it. That's the reviews that we have
- 1:17:07for this week. So thanks everybody for sending
- 1:17:08us in. We always appreciate that when

- 1:17:29I can't remember when we last watched it.
- 1:17:31Yeah, it's benefit cuz that's one of the ones that we don't

- 1:20:39kind of a response to something about Terrifier, but Jurassic

- 1:21:44you've gone past the point where there would normally be blank.
- 1:21:48It should just be silence right here.
- 1:21:49But it's still going, and it's kind of uncanny.
- 1:21:51End of the movie where he goes to nightmares.
- 1:21:54And so, yeah, well, welcome everybody.
- 1:21:59We're in the after show. This.
- 1:22:03OK, exactly. We have this moment like 10
- 1:22:05minutes after we finish recording and we go, oh.
- 1:22:07Fuck yeah. OK.
- 1:22:10Well, OK, this is one that I thought of during the episode.
- 1:22:15OK, technical difficulties. Stay tuned.

- 1:22:28Paranormal difficulties. Stay tuned.
- 1:22:33Is that better? Yeah.
- 1:22:34OK. Or should it be paratechnical
- 1:22:36difficulties? Even better, let's just keep.
- 1:22:40Let's just keep. All right, pair of technical
- 1:22:43difficulties. Stay tuned.
- 1:22:45Yes, OK. OK, there we go.
