- 1:18Speaker 4: we'll be bringing to the show and we'll dive in.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So would you like to kick us off out?
- 1:23Speaker 1: Oh, okay, straight in, all right, So my what's the
- 1:28Speaker 1: tea of the week is?
- 1:31Speaker 3: Twenty sixteen is so back? Have you seen this?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yes, so according to TikTok, searches for twenty sixteen have
- 1:41Speaker 1: searched by four hundred and fifty two percent.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So where were you guys in twenty sixteen and.
- 1:51Speaker 3: What were you wearing?
- 1:54Speaker 5: I was at high school, but I was I feel
- 1:57Speaker 5: like Australia was a little bit behind the trends, a
- 1:59Speaker 5: little like I like twenty seventeen for me more looks
- 2:02Speaker 5: like what twenty sixteen looks.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Like on Interest.
- 2:05Speaker 5: But I actually shopped at for Revenue and was wearing
- 2:08Speaker 5: kind of granny clothing in twenty sixteen. I didn't have
- 2:10Speaker 5: my Windsor Smiths shoe bear. After twenty seventeen, Oh.
- 2:13Speaker 4: My god, the Windsor Smith's shoe cage shoes.
- 2:16Speaker 3: You know what was quite hurtful of a realization for
- 2:19Speaker 3: me was I was like, where was I in twenty sixteen?
- 2:20Speaker 3: I was like, what grade would I have been in?
- 2:23Speaker 3: And then I went I was out of high school
- 2:24Speaker 3: for three years?
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, oh fuck, Like I graduated truly.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Yeah, fully, I was in my early twenties, so I
- 2:34Speaker 4: was well and truly an adult.
- 2:37Speaker 2: But yeah, I remember like the.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Very dark eyebrows, like a very Matte dark lipstick. The
- 2:46Speaker 4: matt lipstick was insane, yeah, and like very Matte foundation.
- 2:50Speaker 2: But then a lot of highlight.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yes for me in twenty sixteen was the Anastasia Beverly
- 2:58Speaker 1: Hills highlight of palettes YouTube like I was a big
- 3:03Speaker 1: YouTube girly and like peas get degrees UNI mentality.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, there was a lot.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Of peplum in my wardrobe of turquoise aqua, a little
- 3:16Speaker 1: bit going on, but mainly like the wet look leather pants.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Do you remember those? Yep?
- 3:21Speaker 5: I never Yeah, Galaxy liggings is that twenty sixteen or later?
- 3:24Speaker 2: That was like twenty eleven. I was wearing those in
- 3:27Speaker 2: my first year of UNI, like the black milk. But
- 3:30Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if that.
- 3:31Speaker 3: When was Jeshy Campbell boots?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Do you remember Jeffrey Campbell.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Was also like twenty eleven. Yeah, that was like twenty
- 3:38Speaker 4: eleven to twenty fourteen. I'd say the Jeffrey Hampballs.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So this trend has been nicknamed twenty twenty six is
- 3:44Speaker 1: the new twenty sixteen, and it's basically everyone kind of
- 3:48Speaker 1: going back to the golden era of the Internet. So
- 3:52Speaker 1: like the Snapchat Dog Feel Time, I love the Flower Crown, Yes,
- 3:57Speaker 1: Tumblr Aesthetics, the Mannequin Challenge, Yeah yeah, the bottle flip videos, yes,
- 4:04Speaker 1: bring those back.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I enjoyed it. Bring it back.
- 4:07Speaker 1: The overlined Matt lips chokers and Instagram Battie makeup, and
- 4:11Speaker 1: of course the absolute peak of Kylie Jenner's King Kylie era.
- 4:16Speaker 3: So it was the year that Kylie Cosmetics lip kits
- 4:19Speaker 3: broke the Internet.
- 4:20Speaker 5: And I have a question. Did you guys ever buy
- 4:24Speaker 5: a Kylie Jenner lip kit? I didn't, but I bought
- 4:26Speaker 5: Colour Pop. Colour Pop was my ear up. But Kylie,
- 4:29Speaker 5: I remember it was so hard to get them. The
- 4:31Speaker 5: really cool kids in my grade got them because their
- 4:34Speaker 5: mom's or dad's at work went and waited in line
- 4:37Speaker 5: when we were at school like online. I mean, yeah, anyways,
- 4:41Speaker 5: and I didn't get one. Did you guys get one?
- 4:43Speaker 4: I think I bought the Vogue magazine that came with
- 4:48Speaker 4: with the Kylie that that happen, and that was the
- 4:51Speaker 4: only way I was ever able to get one. So
- 4:53Speaker 4: of course it was in like a fuck shade that
- 4:54Speaker 4: I would have liked. It wasn't It wasn't one of
- 4:58Speaker 4: the blues, but it was one of the like nudy
- 5:00Speaker 4: neutral ones.
- 5:01Speaker 2: But I think it was more of a like pink,
- 5:03Speaker 2: like pinky, peachy kind of color that eye with. But
- 5:06Speaker 2: I used to wear.
- 5:07Speaker 4: This was also before twenty sixteen, but like, do you
- 5:09Speaker 4: remember Lime Crime, Yes, so they sort of really started
- 5:13Speaker 4: the colored lipstick trend and I used to wear that,
- 5:16Speaker 4: So I think by the time the lip kits came around,
- 5:19Speaker 4: I had already moved past.
- 5:20Speaker 2: My colored lipstick era.
- 5:21Speaker 1: But on your note of Colour Pop, though, do you
- 5:23Speaker 1: remember that in twenty sixteen there was a bit of
- 5:25Speaker 1: a scandal because there was allegations, which I don't believe
- 5:31Speaker 1: have been proven or anything like that, that Kylie Jenna
- 5:34Speaker 1: lip kits were formulated in the same factory as Color Pop.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I did not hear this, yeah, and that everyone was
- 5:41Speaker 1: saying that Kylie Jenner lip Kits again alleged alleged Kylie,
- 5:45Speaker 1: Don't Sue Me, was the same formula as Color Pop.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Because as someone who every single drop woke up at
- 5:56Speaker 1: like two am to buy the lip kits, it makes
- 6:00Speaker 1: me kind of like my skin Crawel, because I'm like,
- 6:03Speaker 1: how much money did you spend on these fucking lipkits,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you dumb bitch?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Like how much were they at the time?
- 6:09Speaker 3: Great question, Sally.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I actually had that answer prepped, and they were twenty
- 6:13Speaker 1: nine USD right, so roughly around like fifty dollars fifty
- 6:20Speaker 1: four fifty to fifty four dollars right. But this is
- 6:24Speaker 1: also my question, is you would get a lipstick and
- 6:28Speaker 1: a lip liner in one pack for fifty dollars, making
- 6:32Speaker 1: the lip liner twenty five dollars roughly and the lipstick
- 6:35Speaker 1: twenty five dollars. So is that actually now we look
- 6:40Speaker 1: at prices of products now, well, Kylie Jenner lipkits actually affordable.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not actually too bad. Yeah, I know what
- 6:49Speaker 2: are they now?
- 6:50Speaker 1: They're sirventy four dollars USD now, so at mecha, they
- 6:54Speaker 1: retail for fifty four dollars. But I don't know if
- 6:56Speaker 1: I see anyone ever using them or talking about them anymore.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Not like the lip products.
- 7:02Speaker 4: I feel like, very occasionally I hear people using some
- 7:05Speaker 4: of the Kylie.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Cos the tints apparently use Charlie Dinner.
- 7:11Speaker 4: No.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I actually have never bought any Kylie product.
- 7:15Speaker 5: I can't believe her.
- 7:17Speaker 3: We're gonna tell Kylie call her up, call tailor up
- 7:22Speaker 3: to cold tailer up.
- 7:24Speaker 1: But here's the plot twist of my tea, right, is
- 7:28Speaker 1: that in just three months we've actually gone back for
- 7:32Speaker 1: the ten years and now apparently two thousand and six
- 7:37Speaker 1: is so back. So I asked you the same question,
- 7:41Speaker 1: where were you in two thousand and six?
- 7:44Speaker 3: Now you can make the feedus. I was five, That
- 7:49Speaker 3: is fucking I was ten.
- 7:52Speaker 2: You would have been what twelve? No in two thousand
- 7:56Speaker 2: and six?
- 7:56Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, was I twelve years older than may?
- 7:59Speaker 2: Are you the teen thirteen?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Okay? I was off one year. The shop was not necessary.
- 8:05Speaker 4: No, sorry, I don't know why. I think I felt
- 8:08Speaker 4: so much older at the time, you know what I mean.
- 8:10Speaker 4: But two thousand and six I was like, well and
- 8:12Speaker 4: truly in my EMO era, Like that was the golden
- 8:17Speaker 4: year of the EMO era.
- 8:18Speaker 2: So that was like one of the best years of
- 8:19Speaker 2: my life.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so like for me as well, like we were
- 8:22Speaker 1: born in the nineties to that TikTok trend, will you
- 8:24Speaker 1: turn us into dinosaurs?
- 8:26Speaker 3: That it's like I feel I always feel so.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Nostalgic for the nineties, and we're going to do an
- 8:30Speaker 1: episode on nostalgia next week, so we won't go too
- 8:32Speaker 1: much into it, can't. But do you feel that way
- 8:35Speaker 1: about like two thousand and six and stuff like that
- 8:38Speaker 1: when you see trends like that coming?
- 8:40Speaker 3: What do you think now?
- 8:41Speaker 5: I kind of do because I idolized my older cousins
- 8:44Speaker 5: who were teenagers in two thousand and six, and so
- 8:48Speaker 5: I remember looking at them going out clubbing like King's Cross,
- 8:51Speaker 5: like I was just there, like I wasn't droning along,
- 8:55Speaker 5: and they would we like such cool outfits like the
- 8:56Speaker 5: wedge hills and the layers and the side part, and
- 9:01Speaker 5: so I feel nostalgic for that, like watching them go
- 9:05Speaker 5: through it as a child. And I also I'm obsessed
- 9:07Speaker 5: with childhood photos.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I always look back at every same I have like this.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Box that has like all of my like actual photos
- 9:13Speaker 1: in it. Whenever I get drunk, I like force all
- 9:15Speaker 1: my friends to look at them, pull it out. And
- 9:18Speaker 1: I've got one friend and every time he's like, give
- 9:21Speaker 1: me to books, and he loves yes, sorry, and he
- 9:27Speaker 1: gets his favorites and then he walks around the party
- 9:29Speaker 1: and shows it everyone everyone and he's like look at her,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and he's like look and this is her dad and
- 9:36Speaker 1: this is her no, And I'm like, sure, that's enough.
- 9:38Speaker 3: He's like, no, it's my box.
- 9:40Speaker 2: You're gonna like go try and find it one day
- 9:42Speaker 2: and I'll be gone.
- 9:42Speaker 1: He would be seriously, But I was looking into this,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and because so many of the trends that we're seeing
- 9:48Speaker 1: kind of come back in, I actually think fit more
- 9:52Speaker 1: into that two thousand and six ish era.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Rather than twenty sixteen.
- 9:58Speaker 1: So I thought we could a little game of two
- 10:03Speaker 1: thousand and six trend check yay or nay?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Oh, ok, yeah, I'm excited.
- 10:08Speaker 1: We've got a millennial, we've got a gen Z, we've
- 10:11Speaker 1: got a sillennial, a millennial, We've got whatever I want
- 10:16Speaker 1: to start. I want to be on for the day
- 10:18Speaker 1: because whatever article you look up, I'm either one or
- 10:20Speaker 1: the other only, So I kind of just like choose
- 10:22Speaker 1: whatever I want to benefit me that day.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Like if there's gen Z's bullying a millennial, I'll be like, yeah, ill,
- 10:27Speaker 3: your ankle sucks. And then if we're bullying gen zs
- 10:31Speaker 3: are like, yeah, stupid useeens anyway. Okay, So yeah your nay.
- 10:37Speaker 6: So I'll get you to answer first for this one.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Peep toe shoes ooh.
- 10:44Speaker 6: Sabrina Carpenter was seen wearing pop recently.
- 10:47Speaker 5: I think I think nay oh why because I once
- 10:55Speaker 5: I took my mum's credit card with love to Mum,
- 10:58Speaker 5: and I went to the shop at my birthday party
- 10:59Speaker 5: and I bought all of these really huge Diamonti peeptoe
- 11:03Speaker 5: heels that I could not walk in for like my
- 11:06Speaker 5: sweet sixteen and so I have really bad memories associated
- 11:09Speaker 5: with almost breaking my ankle and peeptoe shoes.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Like, yeah, see for me, it's for her Bets rebrand.
- 11:22Speaker 3: No, I haven't.
- 11:22Speaker 6: Oh my god, the best re brand is insane.
- 11:24Speaker 2: They've had a huge glower. It looks so good and
- 11:27Speaker 2: it's I'm so excited.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's turned out of ten. I've got homework for today.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 5: So I don't know. I feel like it's my associations
- 11:34Speaker 5: with them, but MYLXA Brenda Carpenter could pull them off.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I'm a nay more because I just have really long toes. Yeah,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and I feel like they're going to be like kind
- 11:44Speaker 1: of crawling out the front and it's like.
- 11:46Speaker 4: A scary, whereas I don't love having my dogs out. No,
- 11:50Speaker 4: but then like a closed toe heel sometimes is like
- 11:53Speaker 4: can look a bit awkward peeking out of like a
- 11:56Speaker 4: long dress or a pant, so I don't mind it.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:59Speaker 5: My next one side parts, No, I'm sorry, nay.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Really but again this is me making it all about myself.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Is I gave myself a side part for years in
- 12:12Speaker 5: primary school, so I just had bad memories associated.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Yeah, so middle part, but some.
- 12:16Speaker 5: People can pull it off. Well, actually, yay for others,
- 12:19Speaker 5: but nay for myself.
- 12:21Speaker 3: You got to say true to yourself.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Guy, Okay, so nay, yeah, back yourself, back myself.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so I completely agree. Nay for me.
- 12:28Speaker 4: I had a side part for I think maybe a
- 12:31Speaker 4: solid eighteen years of my life, and its eighteen looking
- 12:38Speaker 4: back at the photos, I'm like, this just didn't suit
- 12:41Speaker 4: me and my face shape. Yeah.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I think for some people it's great.
- 12:45Speaker 4: I don't have the hairline for it, and I've like,
- 12:49Speaker 4: I feel like it's given me a cowlick like having
- 12:52Speaker 4: the sidepart for but I'm like, it also took so
- 12:56Speaker 4: long to train my hair to sit in the middle
- 12:58Speaker 4: part again that I'm like, fuck all that work.
- 13:00Speaker 2: To be undone.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:02Speaker 1: See I'm a yay because I also have said Cowlick,
- 13:05Speaker 1: and I think at one point I'm just gonna have
- 13:07Speaker 1: to succumb to it.
- 13:07Speaker 3: It's holding me hostage. At this point. It's like, am
- 13:10Speaker 3: I you can do it?
- 13:11Speaker 7: Though?
- 13:11Speaker 4: I remember you used to do speaking of twenty six Steen,
- 13:14Speaker 4: like you used to be able to do really well,
- 13:16Speaker 4: the like Kylie Jenner kind of like flipped hair where
- 13:19Speaker 4: it wasn't like pinned down or flight in a sidepart,
- 13:22Speaker 4: but you had the volume where you could kind of.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I think I've like ruined it though, because I've been
- 13:26Speaker 1: wearing my hair in the middle part for so many
- 13:28Speaker 1: years that now it's like if I try to flip
- 13:31Speaker 1: it over, it's like, yeah, it doesn't know what's going on.
- 13:34Speaker 1: We need to just pick one part and stick with
- 13:37Speaker 1: it and stop listening to pop culture.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Yeah, otherwise you fuck your hair up. Okay.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Turquoise specifically turquoise jewelry, yay or nay?
- 13:48Speaker 3: I think yay. It's kind of fun.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Aquamarine, Yes, sort of vibes love aquamarine.
- 13:56Speaker 3: What do you guys think? Yeah, it's a.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yay for me.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I like it.
- 13:59Speaker 4: I love jewelry same cool, and I love like a
- 14:02Speaker 4: boho chic Mary Kate and Ashley moment, and it's very that.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I feel like you could literally just put on an
- 14:08Speaker 1: aquamarine and see like every fashion trend.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I agree, that's like trending now, so true.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Also love that movie. Okay, yeah your in a bandage dresses.
- 14:21Speaker 5: I saw someone styling then the other down tetok and
- 14:23Speaker 5: I was like, wow, you look amazing, but no, actually, yay,
- 14:30Speaker 5: I think they're cool.
- 14:32Speaker 3: You see, I did my time. Yeah, I did my time.
- 14:35Speaker 5: Where's my cool? Older cousin's words, So that's what I remember.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, like it's my time to shine now. Yeah
- 14:40Speaker 2: I could do that.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah. For me, it's a na purely just from trauma,
- 14:45Speaker 1: like from from years of trauma.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Yeah, totally, it's a n a from me. I didn't
- 14:52Speaker 4: like them then and I don't like them now again.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Like I've seen people wear them and they look gorgeous,
- 14:57Speaker 4: but for me and my aesthetic, like it just would
- 14:59Speaker 4: never Yeah exactly.
- 15:01Speaker 6: I think everyone else looks great at them, but I'm
- 15:03Speaker 6: like for me, I'm like, that's okay.
- 15:04Speaker 4: That's why, Like some people are probably like checkerboard advance no,
- 15:08Speaker 4: whereas I'm like, that is like a staple that I
- 15:11Speaker 4: decided I loved in two thousand and six and it's
- 15:13Speaker 4: kept its way exactly.
- 15:15Speaker 3: And then finally capri pants.
- 15:19Speaker 5: No, I'm sorry, I can't get around them.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I just can't.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys pro.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Capris okay, but again one of those things that like
- 15:29Speaker 1: it's so just to the eye of the beholder, like yeah,
- 15:33Speaker 1: anyone else, I'm like, you look amazing, but because I
- 15:37Speaker 1: feel quite short, and then when I wear them, I'm.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Like, I feel like I'm.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Back in twenty sixteen going to the gym where like
- 15:46Speaker 1: my three quarter length leggings, that's exactly how I feel like.
- 15:50Speaker 3: I don't feel chic.
- 15:51Speaker 2: No, I feel like we need shunk.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Like whatever. The opposite of chek is. I'm like, it's
- 15:59Speaker 3: getting shunk.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Yeah as three short kings. Yeah, I can understand why. Yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 2: we're probably not a big fan.
- 16:06Speaker 3: But again, so like to get.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Some like e warm in my brain though, and in
- 16:12Speaker 1: like ten years I'll be wearing capries.
- 16:14Speaker 3: And be like, I love these, these are so god.
- 16:17Speaker 5: But I think my capris would fit like full length
- 16:19Speaker 5: pants though.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Literally.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Well, my final question is if you had to bring
- 16:27Speaker 1: one two thousand and six trend.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Back, what would it be? And oh wait, to have
- 16:32Speaker 3: two questions.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Okay, if you could try and travel back to two
- 16:35Speaker 1: thousand and six or twenty and sixteen, which one would
- 16:38Speaker 1: you pick. I'd honestly go back to two thousand and
- 16:43Speaker 1: six when I was five years old and I had
- 16:44Speaker 1: no worries except what snack I was going to get.
- 16:47Speaker 3: After pre school.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Hannah Montana was on Hannamon Tan, which I also wasn't
- 16:51Speaker 5: a Foxtel baby child neither. I was ABC three, but
- 16:55Speaker 5: my mum and dad would buy me the Hannamontana DVDs
- 16:57Speaker 5: so I could watch it, so I was a big
- 16:59Speaker 5: Hanontana girl.
- 17:00Speaker 3: And the trend that I.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Would bring back, I actually really love the wedge, the
- 17:04Speaker 5: massive high heels that have like all the straps, and
- 17:06Speaker 5: is that two thousand and six we could make.
- 17:08Speaker 3: It whatever we wanted to do.
- 17:09Speaker 5: I feel like those massive chunky shoes really remind me
- 17:13Speaker 5: of like going out clubbing.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yeah, like the really high wedge, Yes, the really high wedge.
- 17:17Speaker 5: Oh and it's like a gladiator style, yes, I know exactly.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Like the straps up. Yeahah, I know exactly what to
- 17:23Speaker 1: bring back. I think, what would you ring back?
- 17:26Speaker 4: I love that from two I definitely would go back
- 17:28Speaker 4: to two thousand and six. Yeah, as I said, twenty
- 17:31Speaker 4: sixteen was like a flop error for me.
- 17:32Speaker 2: It's like such a nothing.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Yeah, like I didn't really resonate with any of the
- 17:36Speaker 4: trends too much, whereas two thousand and six, I was like,
- 17:39Speaker 4: this is my personality and it has stayed.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So it's really hard to pick one.
- 17:45Speaker 4: But I would say, raccoon stripes in your hair.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Do you guys remember this? So I'm not sure, Gabby,
- 17:52Speaker 2: if you would pick from there.
- 17:53Speaker 4: So essentially it was like in your hair, you would
- 17:56Speaker 4: have safe you had black hair, you would have a
- 17:59Speaker 4: one blonde streak, and then it would have like black
- 18:02Speaker 4: stripes through it.
- 18:03Speaker 5: Oh my gosh. I have seen this online. I obviously
- 18:06Speaker 5: have never done it to my own hair, but that's
- 18:08Speaker 5: so cool.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Yeah, so I love that, or like just streaks in
- 18:13Speaker 4: your hair.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah, let's bring it back.
- 18:15Speaker 3: I kind of agree.
- 18:15Speaker 2: What about you?
- 18:17Speaker 1: I think we need to bring back like the two
- 18:21Speaker 1: thousand and six internet like cringe.
- 18:24Speaker 3: We need to bring back like internet cringe.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Any space?
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah you guys have MySpace? Yeah? Oh yeah, we had
- 18:30Speaker 3: top friends, We had all that.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I was a big tumbler girl, not to like Brad,
- 18:34Speaker 1: but I had like thirteen thousand tumble followers.
- 18:37Speaker 3: That's major bras. Yeah, Tumble famous.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I can see that.
- 18:41Speaker 1: But I like, I'm like, we need everything so esthetic
- 18:44Speaker 1: on the internet.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Now.
- 18:46Speaker 1: It's like, yes, they love, but I'm like, can we
- 18:48Speaker 1: bring back the photo booth?
- 18:50Speaker 3: Lip syncing with your cousin a sleepover?
- 18:53Speaker 1: And it's like good girl's gone bad?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Gosh?
- 18:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, such a good song.
- 19:03Speaker 3: We should make a two thousand and six verse twenty sixteen.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Playlist done, such a good idea.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Oh my god, Yes, what songs would you put in it? Wait?
- 19:12Speaker 6: Though, that's too hard because we'll get it wrong.
- 19:14Speaker 3: But yeah, we're gonna make like a two thousand and
- 19:16Speaker 3: six versus twenty sixteen players with like all the iconic songs.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Okay, we'll put it in the show notes.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Oh my god, love that? Okay, well that's my tea?
- 19:23Speaker 2: Oh my god, exciting?
- 19:25Speaker 3: All right, I love it.
- 19:26Speaker 6: Gibbs a guest of honor. Okay, what's the tea.
- 19:30Speaker 5: My tea is? Obviously, this week we had the oscars,
- 19:34Speaker 5: and the one thing that I thought was really funny
- 19:37Speaker 5: is have you guys also been clocked into the Timothy Chalomay? Yeah,
- 19:40Speaker 5: Ballety opera moment, yeses, So I found it very interesting
- 19:45Speaker 5: in his promotions for Marty Supreme, which with so much
- 19:49Speaker 5: love to that movie. I haven't seen it yet, either
- 19:51Speaker 5: of but I do feel like he's been in the
- 19:52Speaker 5: persona of Marty for so long. I'm just kind of
- 19:55Speaker 5: a little bit over that character. Like bring back French Timmy.
- 19:57Speaker 5: When he was just kind of a little goongi which
- 19:59Speaker 5: is a made up word, like.
- 20:00Speaker 2: A bank, a backlass top sequence and stuff, he just was.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Like so cute.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Anyway, in the promotions for that, he had Misty Copeland,
- 20:09Speaker 5: who's a ballet dancer, where all this merch and then
- 20:13Speaker 5: she said this statement that was very interesting that he
- 20:16Speaker 5: got her to do all those promotions but then sort
- 20:18Speaker 5: of shagged on her industry, industry, and then she obviously
- 20:22Speaker 5: came and performed at the Oscars when Timothy was in
- 20:26Speaker 5: the audience, which is very interesting.
- 20:27Speaker 4: I thought, yeah, because didn't they do a bunch of
- 20:31Speaker 4: promo for the film with various greats of different fields
- 20:36Speaker 4: and industries.
- 20:37Speaker 2: So yeah, very very interesting.
- 20:39Speaker 4: But then also like Timothy's Chalo maze, I think his mum,
- 20:43Speaker 4: sister and grandmother or maybe Auntie are also all like
- 20:47Speaker 4: professional ballerinas. So it's like, you also know people who
- 20:51Speaker 4: work in these fields and who clearly have worked very
- 20:55Speaker 4: very hard to get where.
- 20:56Speaker 2: They are, Like, very bizarre take for him. Bizarre take, Yeah,
- 21:00Speaker 2: but I did think it was.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I was like, did was that already organized that she
- 21:05Speaker 4: was going to be involved or was the academy like.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Yeah, they be a messy beach. Yeah, I kind of
- 21:12Speaker 3: hope it was the messy bitch version.
- 21:13Speaker 1: But I saw and take this with a grain of
- 21:15Speaker 1: salt because I saw it on TikTok, but.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Very beautiful sauce.
- 21:22Speaker 1: That Timothy shallow May also went for the role of
- 21:25Speaker 1: Spider Man, which Tom Holland obviously got. But Tom Holland
- 21:30Speaker 1: got the role because he was ballet trained, he could
- 21:32Speaker 1: do the stunts.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Oh my god, does he have.
- 21:35Speaker 4: A vendetta against ballet because he wasn't picked.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Because this isn't the.
- 21:42Speaker 2: First time that he said that.
- 21:44Speaker 4: He said it in multiple I think maybe at least
- 21:47Speaker 4: two other recorded instances. So I'm like, why is this
- 21:50Speaker 4: your Roman empire? Like ballet and opera, and also these
- 21:56Speaker 4: are two crafts that have been around for like a
- 21:59Speaker 4: very very long time, So I'm.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Like, I don't know, if I would say that they're
- 22:03Speaker 2: dying arts.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Like and also ballet is like the backbones of theater,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and like the law and legacy of theater to which
- 22:15Speaker 1: cinema has been able to evolve from. Yeah, so like
- 22:20Speaker 1: respect your eldest, I know that's so true. But who
- 22:24Speaker 1: was your best dressed at the Oscars?
- 22:27Speaker 5: The actual Oscars? My best dress actually was for the
- 22:31Speaker 5: van I thought Kendall Jenner's it was. I think it
- 22:36Speaker 5: was a custom Chanelle dress. It was this beautiful blue.
- 22:39Speaker 5: I thought she looked absolutely incredible. I loved her look
- 22:43Speaker 5: so much. It was my favorite fully reposted on my
- 22:45Speaker 5: story like a fanger.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it was so good.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I think a lot of the outfits for the Vanity
- 22:52Speaker 1: Fair after party were actually better than the Oscars.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Actually, do you think that's because they have to wear
- 22:58Speaker 4: something that they have to sit in, like during the
- 23:01Speaker 4: awards ceremony, Because like Odessa Azion's look was maybe the
- 23:05Speaker 4: best like celebrity red carpet or you know, event look
- 23:12Speaker 4: I have seen in a very very long time. My
- 23:14Speaker 4: thoughts was that they probably have less power over what
- 23:19Speaker 4: they wear to the Oscars because it's probably brand partnerships,
- 23:23Speaker 4: so it's like, you know, Sarah Pigeon in Calvin Klein,
- 23:27Speaker 4: It's Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton, which that dressed took
- 23:31Speaker 4: over six hundred hours to make and it fucking looked
- 23:34Speaker 4: it ten out of ten.
- 23:35Speaker 3: WHOA.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, So I think that reason is they probably
- 23:40Speaker 1: get a little bit more wiggle room with like an
- 23:43Speaker 1: after party dress, whereas their red carpet dress.
- 23:46Speaker 3: I would assume is probably brand.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Deals, and like even with you know, their makeup is
- 23:52Speaker 1: always done by one brand, their dress is always done
- 23:55Speaker 1: by one brand, so it's like and then the jewelry.
- 23:58Speaker 1: So I think they probably get a little bit of
- 24:01Speaker 1: a sway of what they like and what they don't like.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it'll be like this is what you're wearing.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and maybe they also try to keep it a
- 24:07Speaker 4: little bit more like classic old Hollywood because like the
- 24:12Speaker 4: Oscars is such an iconic event.
- 24:15Speaker 2: It's been around for ninety eight years. Same, I wonder
- 24:18Speaker 2: what they'll do for that.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Been around for one hundred and one, what they'll do
- 24:22Speaker 4: for the one hundred years.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I know it will have to be insane, but yeah, but.
- 24:27Speaker 5: Did you know that the Oscars is Recalled is set
- 24:30Speaker 5: at a mall in America. It's set up just in
- 24:34Speaker 5: a random mall, like there's a Sephora next to it
- 24:36Speaker 5: and stuff like, yes, what I saw a TikTok about it,
- 24:40Speaker 5: so sources sort of trust.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Me, bro, But yes, it's just an a random stopping mall.
- 24:49Speaker 4: My god, I'm using that.
- 24:53Speaker 2: That from one of my friends.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Kind of trust me, bro.
- 24:56Speaker 4: That is amazing what I'm feeling that I stole it
- 25:00Speaker 4: from someone.
- 25:01Speaker 2: I want to look this up where it was.
- 25:03Speaker 5: I'm sure it's Oscars. Yeah, it's just a random shopping
- 25:07Speaker 5: crazy yes, because they have some iconic theater in the
- 25:10Speaker 5: mall or something.
- 25:13Speaker 6: Holy shit, random.
- 25:18Speaker 2: It was held.
- 25:19Speaker 4: It was held at the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood.
- 25:23Speaker 2: So let's look up what is Ovation hollyword?
- 25:27Speaker 3: Yeah, is it like some niche theater?
- 25:30Speaker 2: Shut the fuck up. It's a shopping center.
- 25:32Speaker 3: The Oscars is held at a shopping center. This is
- 25:35Speaker 3: given sane.
- 25:37Speaker 4: When they do film premieres at Entertainment Quarter in more Park,
- 25:41Speaker 4: literally wow.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Or when they did the Freaky Friday when at Bondai
- 25:44Speaker 1: Junction it was going to literally buy tampons.
- 25:47Speaker 2: And I was like, and we heard screaming and we
- 25:50Speaker 2: were like, what's and.
- 25:50Speaker 6: It was like disco balls downstairs outside Woolies dancing. Meanwhile,
- 25:54Speaker 6: Lindsay lowhands and stairs, we were walking by them like Comet.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Day.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Yeah, so wild. So wow, that's my favorite thing I've
- 26:08Speaker 3: learned this week.
- 26:09Speaker 6: Yeah, that's incredible, unbelievable.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeah, like do they do that every year? That is wild?
- 26:14Speaker 3: I want to look up like Oscar fun facts. Now.
- 26:17Speaker 4: I read this article that was published in Vulture this
- 26:20Speaker 4: week and the headline was everything I saw and overheard
- 26:24Speaker 4: at the Oscars.
- 26:25Speaker 2: And look when I clicked.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Into it, I was like, ooh, this is going to
- 26:29Speaker 4: be juicy tea, And to be honest, it wasn't super skill. However,
- 26:34Speaker 4: they were describing the things that they saw, like on
- 26:38Speaker 4: the red carpet and between like as the celebrities were
- 26:41Speaker 4: like going to the bars, and like the different celebrity
- 26:44Speaker 4: interactions of people that you're like, you.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Guys are talking like so so random.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Our Lincoln in the show notes, Yeah, it was so
- 26:51Speaker 4: so interesting because I was like, this is giving like
- 26:54Speaker 4: work Christmas party.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I always think I go do celebrities go to the Oscars?
- 27:00Speaker 1: Then it's kind of just like an influencer reves, yes,
- 27:03Speaker 1: Like is it like the TikTok Awards to them like, yes,
- 27:07Speaker 1: I wonder it is like that.
- 27:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Are they like, oh, gotta go to this work thing
- 27:11Speaker 1: or are they like, like, at what point does it
- 27:14Speaker 1: stop being like if it was your first because you'd
- 27:16Speaker 1: be like, oh my god, I about the Oscars? Do
- 27:18Speaker 1: they stay excited for or is Leonardo DiCaprio or like
- 27:21Speaker 1: Kate Winslet like who have been there a billion times
- 27:24Speaker 1: being like all right, when's this when's.
- 27:27Speaker 3: This show going to be over?
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 27:29Speaker 3: But also loved Michael B. Jordan winning.
- 27:31Speaker 5: I was just about to say, yes, I haven't is
- 27:34Speaker 5: that that was Sinners?
- 27:36Speaker 1: Have watched Sinners is one of the best original movies
- 27:40Speaker 1: I've seen in so long.
- 27:42Speaker 3: I also love like a vampire movie. So is it scary?
- 27:45Speaker 4: No?
- 27:45Speaker 3: Not really, And then I will watch it and I'm
- 27:47Speaker 3: not like scary. I don't like scary movie. It's definitely
- 27:52Speaker 3: look or is.
- 27:53Speaker 2: That just because Michael B.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Jordan's and Haley and Hailey and there's a pretty sexy
- 27:58Speaker 1: scene in that and Jack there's like a bit where
- 28:02Speaker 1: she like spits in Michael Jordan's mouth and I was
- 28:04Speaker 1: like that should be me, And my boyfriend was like,
- 28:10Speaker 1: which one? And I was like, both, I care. I
- 28:14Speaker 1: was like just letting in the middle.
- 28:15Speaker 3: I was like, I'll be a maloney.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I was just happy to be involved.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Yeah, sorry, please yeah, please.
- 28:25Speaker 2: But yeah. Michael B.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Jordan was the sixth black actor to claim the Oscar
- 28:30Speaker 4: for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
- 28:32Speaker 2: So incredible, Like, obviously.
- 28:36Speaker 4: We wish that it would have been more, and there
- 28:38Speaker 4: should be more, but I.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Hope that he's really proud of himsel and he went
- 28:42Speaker 1: to in and out after I saw that, so cute.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah, what a beautiful man.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Also, the Anna Winter Devil Wears prior to moment with
- 28:53Speaker 4: Anne Hathaway, Yeah, that was another really iconic.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Moment Andy on stage. Yeah did you call it Andy
- 29:01Speaker 3: or Emily? Yeah? Yeah, what do you think of my dress?
- 29:07Speaker 3: And the numinies are?
- 29:09Speaker 1: I thought that was really good because when The Devil
- 29:11Speaker 1: Wears Priora came out, didn't Anna Winter not really give
- 29:14Speaker 1: it any gas or attention. I thought she was at
- 29:18Speaker 1: the time was a little bit like, huh, well, Anna
- 29:21Speaker 1: Wintle can do whatever she wants.
- 29:22Speaker 3: She's chic not chunk, so.
- 29:24Speaker 1: True that she kind of didn't really give it much
- 29:27Speaker 1: attention at the time, whereas now I think she's kind
- 29:30Speaker 1: of embraced the Devil Wears Prator for what it is
- 29:33Speaker 1: a little bit more. So I thought that was really
- 29:34Speaker 1: cool to see her like playing a little bit more exactly.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Yeah, in the role, because Miranda Priestley is like probably
- 29:42Speaker 4: one of the most beloved antagonists in modern movie history.
- 29:47Speaker 4: So I'm sure when it first came out she would
- 29:49Speaker 4: have been like, oh my god, how are people gonna
- 29:51Speaker 4: see this perception of me? But really, like people think
- 29:55Speaker 4: that she's quite iconic, yeah kind of people.
- 29:59Speaker 3: I love her.
- 30:00Speaker 2: She's the best boss bitch.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Well, moving on, soal, what's the tea?
- 30:06Speaker 2: The tea is? Is retail dying?
- 30:10Speaker 4: I'm closing a big question here, and I've got a
- 30:13Speaker 4: few examples to bring in, but one of the more
- 30:16Speaker 4: recent ones is that Glue Store will either shut or
- 30:19Speaker 4: sell the remaining of its sixteen stores before the end
- 30:23Speaker 4: of the financial year in twenty twenty six.
- 30:25Speaker 3: There's only sixteen left.
- 30:27Speaker 4: Yeah, So a few weeks ago, at the end of February,
- 30:32Speaker 4: the owner Accent Group announced to the ASX that it
- 30:34Speaker 4: will shut or sell its sixteen stores by.
- 30:37Speaker 2: July twenty twenty six.
- 30:39Speaker 4: This follows an eight point four million six month loss
- 30:42Speaker 4: and the closure of seventeen Glue stores in mid twenty
- 30:46Speaker 4: twenty four. So I think maybe that's what we're thinking
- 30:48Speaker 4: as well, because I was like, no, there were heats more,
- 30:50Speaker 4: there's a Clue stores, But I'm like nay, But I'm like,
- 30:55Speaker 4: now that I think about it, some of the Glue
- 30:58Speaker 4: stores I used to frequent aka Broadway Shopping Center like
- 31:01Speaker 4: that hasn't been around for a long time. So yeah,
- 31:03Speaker 4: maybe there is only sixteen left. So Axan Group also
- 31:07Speaker 4: operates athletes for Platypus and Hype DC, as well as
- 31:11Speaker 4: Sketches and Vans, so they do own a lot of
- 31:14Speaker 4: different brands. But this is a trend that we've seen
- 31:17Speaker 4: with a bunch of iconic retailers in Australia over the
- 31:21Speaker 4: last few years.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Quick Q, So we'll Glue be shutting its stores but
- 31:25Speaker 1: remaining online.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, interesting.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Yeah, So I'll be interested to see how long, yeah,
- 31:32Speaker 4: that lasts and if they are just really going to
- 31:34Speaker 4: focus on their e comm or you know, if they'll
- 31:37Speaker 4: shut them down and then maybe reopen like some flagship
- 31:41Speaker 4: stores in some of like the.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Bigger areas, or what they'll do.
- 31:45Speaker 4: But yeah, this is a trend that we've seen with
- 31:47Speaker 4: a bunch of iconic Australian retailers over the last couple
- 31:50Speaker 4: of years. There's so many, but a handful that I
- 31:53Speaker 4: could think of was in March last year, Jean's West close.
- 31:56Speaker 2: All of its brick and mortar stores.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Miller's and nony B also shut in January twenty twenty five,
- 32:02Speaker 4: Stack's also shut a number of their physical stores to
- 32:06Speaker 4: reprioritize their e comm offering, and Sephora has also experienced
- 32:11Speaker 4: a seventy eight million dollar loss in Australia according to
- 32:15Speaker 4: the Australians.
- 32:15Speaker 3: So we've seen it launch, yeah, yeah.
- 32:19Speaker 4: So we've seen a few different Australian retailers kind of
- 32:24Speaker 4: struggling over the last couple of years. And I was
- 32:27Speaker 4: looking into this and it's apparently something that has been
- 32:31Speaker 4: described as the retail apocalypse, which is the ongoing decline
- 32:36Speaker 4: of brick and mortar stores since the twenty tens, speaking
- 32:39Speaker 4: of twenty sixteen roback and the increase in online shopping
- 32:44Speaker 4: since that time, which I think makes sense as well,
- 32:46Speaker 4: because we also saw that the Iconic, which is an
- 32:50Speaker 4: entirely e comm brand right turned its first profit after
- 32:54Speaker 4: fifteen years of business. So the Iconic posted a one
- 32:58Speaker 4: point nine million net profit into twenty twenty five, swinging
- 33:01Speaker 4: from a twenty point seven million loss in twenty twenty
- 33:04Speaker 4: four and nearly a forty eight million dollar loss in
- 33:07Speaker 4: twenty twenty three, which I thought.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Was really really interesting.
- 33:11Speaker 4: But I also wanted to throw it to you guys, like,
- 33:13Speaker 4: do you ever shop in store?
- 33:17Speaker 5: I do sometimes if I want to see the sizing, Yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 5: if I haven't shopped from the brand before. And I
- 33:24Speaker 5: also sometimes like the in store experience a more than
- 33:27Speaker 5: shopping online. Also, you get it instantly versus exactly waiting.
- 33:31Speaker 5: But I don't know, what do you think?
- 33:33Speaker 3: I think?
- 33:35Speaker 1: My initial thought when we were talking about this earlier
- 33:39Speaker 1: this week was if, in like, if retail stores become
- 33:45Speaker 1: like a moot point and don't exist, what will that
- 33:48Speaker 1: mean for quality? So, if I can't go into a
- 33:51Speaker 1: store and check quality, feel the fabric of an item,
- 33:56Speaker 1: feel the make, see how it looks on my body,
- 33:59Speaker 1: how will that then affect the quality standard that brands
- 34:03Speaker 1: have to live up to If my first impression of
- 34:06Speaker 1: it is when I've actually bought it, And also, with
- 34:10Speaker 1: so many brands having different returns policies online, what's going
- 34:15Speaker 1: to happen when the only way we can buy things
- 34:17Speaker 1: is through a computer, because I feel like we would.
- 34:21Speaker 1: My gut says that, like the quality of items is
- 34:25Speaker 1: going to go down because brands don't have to then
- 34:27Speaker 1: actually sell to you anymore like I can give you.
- 34:31Speaker 1: And with so many brands now using AI in imagery online,
- 34:36Speaker 1: there's not actually a fucking garment like.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Actual interaction between me and a garment that I'm purchasing.
- 34:47Speaker 3: So I'm kind of sad about this. But I think
- 34:50Speaker 3: what's interesting is the flip so we've seen like mortar
- 34:56Speaker 3: and Pestle stores. No, that's not it.
- 35:11Speaker 5: I'm never calling it anything else now. That is so icony.
- 35:19Speaker 2: That is amazing. That is amazing.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Okay.
- 35:28Speaker 5: Did I also think it was Pestel So I'm going
- 35:30Speaker 5: through something myself?
- 35:31Speaker 2: Well, so much from.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Because it says brick and mortar and a mortar and
- 35:38Speaker 3: pestl is okay?
- 35:42Speaker 5: Because I also then after we stopped laughing, I was like,
- 35:44Speaker 5: but wait, she's.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Right, Who's wrong?
- 35:51Speaker 3: That's not the right one? Fuck my life.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Anyway, that was incredible.
- 35:58Speaker 8: I think we're seeing this flip from brick and is
- 36:03Speaker 8: it more retail stores physical retail stores that like haven't
- 36:09Speaker 8: been able to adapt to the online landscape, whereas.
- 36:13Speaker 1: E comm stores that started as e comm stores are
- 36:17Speaker 1: now bringing.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Actual physical stores.
- 36:21Speaker 1: So like, for example, Dish, they have been rolling out stores.
- 36:25Speaker 1: And Dish actually started as like a Princess Poly and
- 36:29Speaker 1: like a show Po and then they had this massive rebrand.
- 36:32Speaker 3: I didn't know that.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Very like Princess Poly Showpo, very like like affordable e
- 36:39Speaker 1: comm fast fashion vibes, and then they rebranded to be
- 36:42Speaker 1: like more mid tier and high level. And then we
- 36:45Speaker 1: also see now Princess Polly has started opening physical stores.
- 36:48Speaker 1: They have a store at Bondi Junction, and I've also
- 36:50Speaker 1: saw this week that Birge Girl is opening a store
- 36:53Speaker 1: in Bondai.
- 36:54Speaker 5: Well, I went, I've been too the Virgio at Ringa Mall. Yeah,
- 36:58Speaker 5: and I really like it because I didn't know, especially
- 37:01Speaker 5: those sequeny tops, you don't know what they're going to
- 37:02Speaker 5: look like until you try the ones. It was great
- 37:04Speaker 5: that you could go in store exactly a vertu.
- 37:06Speaker 3: So wow.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Yeah, So we're seeing this thing where brands that haven't
- 37:11Speaker 1: necessarily adapted to the online landscape like kind of fall
- 37:18Speaker 1: and across the board, like their online sales and their
- 37:21Speaker 1: physical store sales, whereas e comm brands that have started
- 37:26Speaker 1: online and now branching into physical stores, and that hasn't
- 37:29Speaker 1: always worked, as we know with you know, Matilda and Stacks,
- 37:32Speaker 1: how she wanted to bring it back to what their
- 37:34Speaker 1: core was. But I also do think as well, like
- 37:39Speaker 1: when we think of a brand that is so physical
- 37:43Speaker 1: in retail, is what jumps into my mind is Kmart.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Yeah, and how cam Art.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Has been always a retail store and never really an
- 37:53Speaker 1: online e comm place to shop.
- 37:56Speaker 3: However, with its like real estate that it.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Owns on TikTok and kmart halls and come with me
- 38:03Speaker 1: to Kmart. And also just the leveling up of their
- 38:07Speaker 1: target audience, like they have just boomed recently, Like I
- 38:12Speaker 1: don't know if you guys have seen even this year,
- 38:14Speaker 1: like k Mart's just dropped this new range of like
- 38:16Speaker 1: jackets for autumn with like a fake Swede jacket which
- 38:20Speaker 1: is like really nice, like a gray Bomber jacket.
- 38:23Speaker 2: The denim the denim well.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Yeah, like a denim set and it's so good. And
- 38:28Speaker 1: I think they have also tried to lean into within
- 38:32Speaker 1: some of their products, aligning with you know, more natural
- 38:35Speaker 1: fabrics and not across the entire board, but it also
- 38:39Speaker 1: you know, sits at an affordable price point that it's
- 38:42Speaker 1: a very very weird landscape at the moment.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like you can't paint the whole space with
- 38:50Speaker 4: the same brush because some places are still booming.
- 38:53Speaker 2: And another place.
- 38:55Speaker 4: Where we do a lot of in store shopping still
- 38:58Speaker 4: is grocery shopping, which I thought was really interesting as well.
- 39:03Speaker 4: So eighty order and peel, Yeah, exactly, eighty six percent
- 39:08Speaker 4: of Australians still do their grocery shopping in store and
- 39:11Speaker 4: the main reason for this is quality control. So with
- 39:15Speaker 4: three and four wanting to select their own produce and
- 39:18Speaker 4: two and five wanting to select the best expiry dates,
- 39:21Speaker 4: and I'm like, so, why don't we have this same
- 39:25Speaker 4: philosophy with you know, like fashion, beauty tech or home
- 39:30Speaker 4: weares for example, Because yes, I know, like choosing a
- 39:34Speaker 4: good avocado verse like picking a top. Yes, it's different,
- 39:38Speaker 4: but still this quality control that goes into it. Like
- 39:41Speaker 4: you said, you can't even if you can read the
- 39:43Speaker 4: fabric compositions on a website, you can't feel the material.
- 39:47Speaker 4: You can't see how it looks until you actually order
- 39:51Speaker 4: it and get it. To you, which is probably why
- 39:55Speaker 4: according to DHL, the majority of shoppers return thirty percent
- 39:59Speaker 4: of their online purchases. Yeah, so that was a lot
- 40:03Speaker 4: higher than I thought. I'm like, that's one in three
- 40:06Speaker 4: purchases you're sending back that you order online because, like
- 40:11Speaker 4: you were saying, Gabby, like another big perk of shopping
- 40:14Speaker 4: in stores that you get it straight away right, whereas
- 40:16Speaker 4: you have to wait for the for the delivery to
- 40:19Speaker 4: come and then there's the whole process of sending it back.
- 40:23Speaker 2: And a lot of brands.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Previously had prioritized free returns right to make that easier
- 40:27Speaker 4: for people. But apparently that's a trend that we're going
- 40:30Speaker 4: to see potentially decreasing in Australia over the next couple
- 40:35Speaker 4: of years. So according to ship At, the percentage of
- 40:37Speaker 4: Australian retailers offing free online returns has dropped from forty
- 40:40Speaker 4: nine percent in twenty eighteen to fourteen percent in twenty
- 40:44Speaker 4: twenty five. So brands are focusing on friction less returns
- 40:48Speaker 4: rather than free returns. And listen, I'm like, as a consumer,
- 40:52Speaker 4: I'm like, that's annoying for me, right, But then when
- 40:55Speaker 4: I read this article, a link in the show notes
- 40:57Speaker 4: from Broadsheet who were sort of explain why this.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Trend has been happening, and maybe this isn't.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Necessarily a bad thing, because I do think it could
- 41:07Speaker 4: potentially promote more mindful spending. If you think about like
- 41:12Speaker 4: I'm gonna have to pay money to send this back.
- 41:14Speaker 4: I don't see it as as much of a like
- 41:16Speaker 4: disposable thing, right because it is like a huge cost
- 41:21Speaker 4: on businesses to cover the cost of returns. But also
- 41:26Speaker 4: I saw a report from Good three sixty and they
- 41:29Speaker 4: estimated that thirty percent of clothing that's returned isn't resold,
- 41:33Speaker 4: so a lot of it ends up in landfill.
- 41:35Speaker 3: I actually saw, do you guys fell her Lily Brown.
- 41:39Speaker 1: She has her brand Chill, Yeah, And she showed these
- 41:45Speaker 1: pajamas that had been sent back to their brand, and
- 41:49Speaker 1: they had like very evidently been like worn and washed
- 41:56Speaker 1: and sent back. She showed like the peg marks on
- 42:00Speaker 1: the pajamas and then the tag had been like sewed
- 42:05Speaker 1: back on, like it had been ripped off, and they
- 42:07Speaker 1: got like twine or like string and sewed the string
- 42:11Speaker 1: back onto it.
- 42:12Speaker 3: And it was like crazy that I'm not surprised by that.
- 42:17Speaker 3: You see so many people also who do.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Like dress hiring businesses. Yeah, when they get dresses back
- 42:22Speaker 1: and they're like cooked.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:25Speaker 4: So I'm like, I wonder if we're going to see
- 42:26Speaker 4: the pendulum swing at some point, because you know, like
- 42:31Speaker 4: we said, there are so many positives to shopping online,
- 42:35Speaker 4: but also so many shopping in store as well, like
- 42:38Speaker 4: that quality control, like being able to get the product
- 42:42Speaker 4: that you want straight away, and then also the returns, Like, yeah,
- 42:46Speaker 4: I'll be interested to see if the pendulum does or
- 42:49Speaker 4: can swing back, because obviously a huge part of this
- 42:51Speaker 4: conversation is like the cost of living increases because all
- 42:54Speaker 4: of the things that we're facing as individuals, like the
- 42:57Speaker 4: increased costs of utilities and rent and you know, wages
- 43:01Speaker 4: for them, the cost of product, et cetera. It's all
- 43:04Speaker 4: going up. So there's also that to consider as well.
- 43:09Speaker 4: But I'm kind of sad about it because I'm like
- 43:11Speaker 4: I do and is it just the nostalgia thing playing
- 43:14Speaker 4: in loved.
- 43:15Speaker 7: Going like on a Saturday, do you want to just
- 43:17Speaker 7: go out the shop and and just like that was
- 43:20Speaker 7: the activity walking around shot and even just that looks nice,
- 43:26Speaker 7: I love this and then putting it back Yes, yeah,
- 43:28Speaker 7: I want its art form it really is.
- 43:31Speaker 2: And I wanted to ask.
- 43:32Speaker 4: You guys, are there any like in store shopping experiences
- 43:35Speaker 4: that you really really miss that you'd want to bring back? Oh, like,
- 43:42Speaker 4: for example, like video Easy.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Ah, I loved the DVD store.
- 43:48Speaker 4: I was gonna ask you, Gabby, if that was something
- 43:51Speaker 4: that you got to experience.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Yes, that was major.
- 43:54Speaker 5: It was my favorite thing to do was going to
- 43:57Speaker 5: the DVD store and he just walked through the aisles
- 43:58Speaker 5: and pull out different movies.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Oh wow, the best.
- 44:01Speaker 1: I got Aquamarine from the DVD store and it was
- 44:04Speaker 1: when it like just came out and it was one
- 44:05Speaker 1: of those like one night ones where you got it
- 44:07Speaker 1: and then you had to take it back the next day.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Yeah, like the three time Hot the Hot release, Yeah,
- 44:12Speaker 3: oh wow.
- 44:13Speaker 6: I watched it three times because I was like, I've
- 44:15Speaker 6: got this for one night.
- 44:16Speaker 3: I've got to get as much like Kenny and I
- 44:17Speaker 3: had a portable DVD.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Player same, Yes, so good. Yeah, And it was like
- 44:22Speaker 2: I think could take off if you.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Want to seriously, but yeah, that was the best.
- 44:27Speaker 1: I do also think like the magic of the movies
- 44:30Speaker 1: has lost a little bit of its sparkle. The like
- 44:33Speaker 1: Lollies game, Why am I paying eight dollars for a
- 44:36Speaker 1: bag of lollies or like twelve dollars for a couple
- 44:40Speaker 1: of lollies that's been sitting there for about four and
- 44:42Speaker 1: a half weeks. Yeah, I'm like gonna break I'm literally
- 44:45Speaker 1: going to break a tooth on one of those like
- 44:46Speaker 1: sour coke bottles. Literally they have been fossilized, speaking of
- 44:50Speaker 1: two thousand and six, Yeah, that's how long they've been there.
- 44:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:54Speaker 4: They were also there when Aquamarine came out. No, that's
- 44:57Speaker 4: so true.
- 44:59Speaker 2: You guys might be too for this.
- 45:00Speaker 4: But one of my favorites was Sanity, Yeah back in
- 45:03Speaker 4: the day, which was the CD store, right, And one
- 45:06Speaker 4: of my favorite things about that in story experience is
- 45:09Speaker 4: that so you could buy singles, right, So it would
- 45:11Speaker 4: just be a CD that would have like one single
- 45:13Speaker 4: on it and then it might have like three remixes
- 45:15Speaker 4: and maybe a B side if you were lucky. But
- 45:18Speaker 4: they had a wall where you could go and listen
- 45:21Speaker 4: the headphone to the albums and like it was honestly amazing,
- 45:28Speaker 4: especially because back in the day you would have to
- 45:30Speaker 4: listen to the radio or watch rage or video hits
- 45:33Speaker 4: to like hear your favorite song. If you didn't have
- 45:36Speaker 4: the CD, so it would be like the waiting game.
- 45:38Speaker 4: So if you didn't own the CD, going to the
- 45:41Speaker 4: mall and going to sanity and being like, I can
- 45:43Speaker 4: just listen to whatever song I won was the best.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Ye do you know what?
- 45:47Speaker 1: Like they still exist, but again I think the sparkle
- 45:49Speaker 1: is gone.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Is the magic of a food court?
- 45:52Speaker 2: Love a food court. The world is your always.
- 45:55Speaker 3: The world is always. And when you would go with your.
- 45:56Speaker 6: Mom and it was lunchtime and she would see one
- 45:59Speaker 6: and she'd yeah, and because you were little, you'd have
- 46:02Speaker 6: to like duck deep dive, duck and dodge, and if
- 46:05Speaker 6: he didn't get there before someone else, your mom would
- 46:07Speaker 6: look at you like you were the disappointment of lifetime.
- 46:10Speaker 3: My mom never did that, so Mum, she was actually
- 46:12Speaker 3: really nice and amazing. You never ever did that.
- 46:16Speaker 1: And you'd be like, oh, dishonored family if you didn't
- 46:19Speaker 1: get that fucking table.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Yeah the best?
- 46:21Speaker 3: What about you? There any shops that you miss? Actually
- 46:25Speaker 3: very easy?
- 46:25Speaker 5: That one had just come back with such a vengeance
- 46:27Speaker 5: in my brain. I loved going there, like after school
- 46:30Speaker 5: on a Friday night and my family would get takeaway
- 46:33Speaker 5: pizza was like and we would pick out a movie
- 46:38Speaker 5: and it was just the best, Like, oh wow, it's
- 46:40Speaker 5: so fun. And also when I was off school sick,
- 46:42Speaker 5: mom would take me and I could pick out whatever
- 46:44Speaker 5: and watch that.
- 46:45Speaker 1: So your mom loved you more than anyone else. Meanwhile,
- 46:50Speaker 1: we're here watching Ready steady fucking cork Smash, though fake
- 46:55Speaker 1: to sim would be like lost the Match.
- 46:58Speaker 3: You can watch Oprah, Okay, Doctor Phil.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I did.
- 47:02Speaker 4: Love Hueye's cooking though, as well some of those daytime
- 47:06Speaker 4: TV shows.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it's another fabulous episode about the tea.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you so much for joining us. Thank you
- 47:15Speaker 3: so much for having me.
- 47:16Speaker 5: I'm obsessed with you both.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Oh my god, the feeling is mutual.
- 47:19Speaker 2: And where can the chicks find you if they don't
- 47:21Speaker 2: follow you already?
- 47:22Speaker 5: Oh you can find me on TikTok or Instagram both
- 47:25Speaker 5: at Gabby Whips.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Yes.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Well, thank you chicks for having us in your ear holes.
- 47:33Speaker 3: We absolutely love to be here.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Big kisses, big Moochhi, love you, bye, see you next Tuesday.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Bye,
