- 1:35Speaker 4: First off, let's get to the point. The NFL announced
- 1:38Speaker 4: last night at the time we're recording that on Tuesday
- 1:40Speaker 4: afternoon lunchtime time TBC, the Pittsburgh Steelers opponent and date
- 1:45Speaker 4: for the game and Crowe Park this autumn will be announced.
- 1:48Speaker 4: That a lot of speculation online, you'll get the official
- 1:51Speaker 4: word from both the NFL and the team this Tuesday.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I know that means so much to so many NFL fans,
- 1:58Speaker 4: no matter who you support, this is a big moment
- 2:00Speaker 4: and I think even for myself it's starting to hit
- 2:03Speaker 4: home now what's about to happen? So so excited for it?

- 2:15Speaker 4: is on Instagram and on TikTok as well. For now, today,
- 2:19Speaker 4: we're joined by a man who was in Dublin a
- 2:21Speaker 4: couple of weeks ago, two time Super Bowl champion, a
- 2:24Speaker 4: guy that enjoys the fish, and a guy that, frankly
- 2:27Speaker 4: from seeing first hand folks, loves the Island of Ireland.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Defensive end for the Pittsburgh Steeters. Let's welcome Brett Keesl
- 2:33Speaker 4: to the Irish Theaters Podcast. Irish Theaters Podcast, presented by Erling,
- 2:37Speaker 4: is a guy that knows the Emerald Isle very well.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Nigh after being here a couple of weeks ago, two
- 2:43Speaker 4: time Super Bowl champion, buzzin' to have the chance to
- 2:46Speaker 4: shout to Brett Casele again, Brad Falca did the champion again?
- 2:49Speaker 5: Howiding? What's the crack my friend? What's going on down there? Story?
- 2:54Speaker 4: Horse, Brad, story horse, story Horse. I feel there's a
- 3:01Speaker 4: lot we can talk about. There's obviously a lot of
- 3:03Speaker 4: excitement with steel Anish at the moment. Their game is
- 3:06Speaker 4: going to be announced steady opponent for the theaters, and
- 3:08Speaker 4: the date is going to be Annoyce early next week officially,
- 3:11Speaker 4: everyone's very excited. You had a chance to come over
- 3:13Speaker 4: here a few weeks ago, you said, story horse there.
- 3:16Speaker 4: You seem to pick up the lingo very easily anyway,
- 3:18Speaker 4: the language.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I have an amazing time over there. It's one
- 3:23Speaker 5: of my favorite trips I've ever taken in my life.
- 3:25Speaker 5: It was great to go out and fish at Laos
- 3:28Speaker 5: Angling Center and obviously getting to hang out at Dublin
- 3:32Speaker 5: and go to Croke Park and have the draft party
- 3:35Speaker 5: and get to meet kind of Steeler Nation Ireland and
- 3:39Speaker 5: feel their passion and energy for the game. Really looking
- 3:42Speaker 5: forward to the matchup. You know, everyone's kind of wondering
- 3:46Speaker 5: who it's going to be.
- 3:47Speaker 3: So we'll see, we will see. That's gonna be announced
- 3:50Speaker 3: in a few days.
- 3:50Speaker 4: And Jill, I'm glad you mentioned that I'll come back
- 3:53Speaker 4: to the fishing in the second and we had the
- 3:56Speaker 4: chance that people would text us and maybe feedback to us.
- 3:59Speaker 4: And that couple of people at the Calm Heyward events
- 4:01Speaker 4: and the one thing they said about you was you
- 4:04Speaker 4: looked like you had You know, if you looked like
- 4:06Speaker 4: you you wanted to be there, you had to read
- 4:09Speaker 4: a really good time. But like, let's just jump to
- 4:11Speaker 4: that moment when we drafted Will hired Irish guy Tom
- 4:14Speaker 4: McCormick on screen, Like for people listening, this guy here
- 4:17Speaker 4: was standing hanging every word like a fan pumped And
- 4:22Speaker 4: I think what people were saying was they just enjoyed
- 4:24Speaker 4: the fact that Bret I seen the first hand you
- 4:27Speaker 4: had time for everybody there that they and I think
- 4:29Speaker 4: it meant an awful lot to a lot of people.
- 4:31Speaker 4: So thank you very much.
- 4:32Speaker 3: The draft party. How did you find that?
- 4:36Speaker 5: It was wonderful? You know, get you did a great job,
- 4:38Speaker 5: by the way, hosting the event. It's not easy to
- 4:42Speaker 5: kind of roll through that. As the draft goes on,
- 4:44Speaker 5: you never know what's going to happen or just like
- 4:46Speaker 5: my pick, I mean I was supposed to pick. I'm
- 4:48Speaker 5: standing out there in Throve Park, the lights are on,
- 4:51Speaker 5: the camera's on, and they're like we're trading the pick.
- 4:54Speaker 5: So there's lots of ebbs and flows that happened with
- 4:57Speaker 5: the draft. But to me and hang out with other
- 5:00Speaker 5: nation Ireland. I never lose sight that our game is
- 5:04Speaker 5: fueled by the fans, and we're so fortunate with Steelers
- 5:08Speaker 5: to have Steeler Nation support us the way they do.
- 5:11Speaker 5: It doesn't matter if we're in Oakland, it doesn't matter
- 5:14Speaker 5: if we're in Dallas. It doesn't matter if we're in
- 5:16Speaker 5: Tampa Bay, it doesn't matter if we're in Dublin. Like,
- 5:20Speaker 5: they show up in droves and are passionate about the team,
- 5:25Speaker 5: and so it's fun to, you know, hang out with
- 5:28Speaker 5: everybody and get them going.
- 5:31Speaker 4: You mentioned various places you had the chance to play
- 5:34Speaker 4: in between two and fourteen. Look, I know it's not
- 5:37Speaker 4: a stupid question, but you obviously expect the Funds to
- 5:40Speaker 4: be there, But were you surprised by the amount of
- 5:43Speaker 4: people there that we're Steeters Funds and Morsel as well
- 5:46Speaker 4: the knowledge that they have in terms of it's April,
- 5:48Speaker 4: it's been fleet two three months, it's the Super Bowl,
- 5:50Speaker 4: and there's guy who's just sitting and watching college guys
- 5:53Speaker 4: get picked.
- 5:54Speaker 5: It's impressive, it really is, especially that the game is
- 5:58Speaker 5: so far away, you know, so it was really impressive
- 6:02Speaker 5: to talk to people. I had the opportunity to sign
- 6:05Speaker 5: some autographs and that's kind of where I could chat
- 6:07Speaker 5: with people and get gained a little bit of their
- 6:10Speaker 5: knowledge and love for the game. And yeah, they know
- 6:13Speaker 5: all about Steelers, they know all about Pittsburgh, they know
- 6:16Speaker 5: all about the draft. They knew where I was from,
- 6:19Speaker 5: they knew I grew up in Wyoming, went to college
- 6:23Speaker 5: at BYU. They're very knowledgeable and in the best kind
- 6:27Speaker 5: of friends, Like they're so kind and generous. So that's
- 6:31Speaker 5: what I loved about the people over there in Dublin.
- 6:34Speaker 4: A couple of guys that came over I'll not starting Naven.
- 6:37Speaker 4: There's been not Mammy, which is great. A few guys
- 6:39Speaker 4: that came over stears legends. Actually missed a chance to
- 6:42Speaker 4: play in twenty thirteen, by you know, six seven months
- 6:45Speaker 4: or whatever.
- 6:45Speaker 3: A couple of years.
- 6:46Speaker 4: You had the chance to play at Wembley. Ironically, in
- 6:49Speaker 4: the last game to this point that the Steelers have
- 6:51Speaker 4: played internationally. That game was against the Minnesota Vikings. And
- 6:56Speaker 4: as a player, I know, I feel like a lot
- 6:59Speaker 4: of teams players and more used to it, not because
- 7:01Speaker 4: it seems to happen every other year, but what was
- 7:03Speaker 4: that like.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Going over there?
- 7:04Speaker 4: And actually, you know, really transition into that because back
- 7:06Speaker 4: in those days, you were sort of guaranteed to buy week.
- 7:09Speaker 4: You knew that you were going to get a better rest.
- 7:11Speaker 4: How did you find that experience?
- 7:14Speaker 5: I found it great. London was incredible. It was my
- 7:17Speaker 5: first time in London. Amazing to see, you know, the
- 7:20Speaker 5: fans that really were for all kinds of teams. When
- 7:24Speaker 5: you were on the bus to the stadium, there wasn't
- 7:26Speaker 5: like there. It was a huge like it is in Pittsburgh.
- 7:29Speaker 5: You go down to the stadium and it's all Steeler jerseys,
- 7:32Speaker 5: you know, and people grilling out and tailgating and drinking
- 7:35Speaker 5: beer there. It's like you see teams and jerseys from
- 7:40Speaker 5: every team in the NFL, all thirty two teams. So
- 7:43Speaker 5: it was really cool to see their passion. Obviously, they
- 7:47Speaker 5: know how to go to a game and celebrate the game,
- 7:51Speaker 5: so the cheering was fantastic, and you know, I was
- 7:55Speaker 5: disappointed with how our team played over there. I felt like,
- 7:59Speaker 5: you know, we were kind kind of our backs were
- 8:01Speaker 5: against the wall a little bit when we go there.
- 8:02Speaker 5: We flew all night, landed, got on the train, went
- 8:06Speaker 5: to some place, had practice, you know, and we were
- 8:09Speaker 5: all kind of in the twilight zone, but all blaming
- 8:12Speaker 5: on that little reason we didn't end up winning that game.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I'm sure it was a great experience regardless of a
- 8:19Speaker 4: result in terms of getting to see a different country
- 8:21Speaker 4: as well. And you mentioned you went to leash fishing,
- 8:25Speaker 4: like I sort of said this Stey on stage during
- 8:28Speaker 4: the draft party. For people listening, check out the theaters
- 8:30Speaker 4: tech talk channel Steters Ireland for a few more interests
- 8:33Speaker 4: and tidbits in this It's just been something that you've
- 8:35Speaker 4: enjoyed throughout your life because you seem to have a
- 8:38Speaker 4: great time and it's just funny because you see all
- 8:40Speaker 4: these different players, different teams over you just got a
- 8:43Speaker 4: chance to go fishing, which is.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Yeah. One of my favorite things about fishing is I've
- 8:49Speaker 5: been doing it all my life. I mean from the
- 8:51Speaker 5: second I could walk. My dad took me and parents
- 8:54Speaker 5: both my parents took me and taught me out of
- 8:57Speaker 5: being the outdoors and catch a fish and if we
- 9:00Speaker 5: wanted to eat it, we could, you know, if we
- 9:02Speaker 5: want to throw it back so somebody else could catch
- 9:04Speaker 5: it later. Great, But that time spent on the water
- 9:08Speaker 5: is so therapeutic for me. I love it because it
- 9:12Speaker 5: doesn't matter that I'm forty six and I still get
- 9:16Speaker 5: the same exhilaration when I get hooked up and a
- 9:21Speaker 5: big fish is tugging at the end of my line
- 9:23Speaker 5: that I did when I was five years old. And
- 9:26Speaker 5: I love sharing that with people. I love, you know,
- 9:30Speaker 5: hooting and hollering and yelling when I got a fish
- 9:32Speaker 5: on it, be it excited because That's what I'm feeling.
- 9:36Speaker 5: And you know, it was great to be out there
- 9:38Speaker 5: that day. The people that own that place are a
- 9:41Speaker 5: lovely couple, and anyone out there that wants a great experience,
- 9:45Speaker 5: I would definitely recommend going there because they have enormous trout.
- 9:50Speaker 4: There, enormous enormous probably for the draft party here, I
- 9:58Speaker 4: know here, And you've had the like unlike a lot
- 10:01Speaker 4: of Staters legends because some of them played just under
- 10:04Speaker 4: coach Tomlin. For example, you played under both a coach
- 10:07Speaker 4: Kaire and coach Tomlin. What was it like to play
- 10:10Speaker 4: under both coaches? And like the thing that the Staters
- 10:12Speaker 4: have done so well throughout the years is a transition
- 10:14Speaker 4: to a different coach on the continuity, I guess Brett
- 10:18Speaker 4: in terms of the tradition continues. What was like playing
- 10:20Speaker 4: under Booth? And have you any interesting or funny stories
- 10:24Speaker 4: about ever coach.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Well, color scared the heck out everybody. You know, he
- 10:30Speaker 5: was never afraid to let you know that he's the
- 10:32Speaker 5: top dog and he's the head coach, and you better
- 10:35Speaker 5: not mess with him. You better do exactly as he says.
- 10:38Speaker 5: It came. You know, it kind of made everybody a
- 10:41Speaker 5: little bit nervous, especially if you're a young guy. My
- 10:45Speaker 5: rookie year, I was coming around the edge on a
- 10:48Speaker 5: rush and my cleat slipped out from underneath me, and
- 10:51Speaker 5: this offensive line speared me, which means I'm on the ground.
- 10:55Speaker 5: He dives at me into my back with the shoulder
- 10:57Speaker 5: plays and puts his shoulder plage with all of his
- 11:00Speaker 5: bodyweight riding to my ribs, and as it would any person,
- 11:03Speaker 5: that upset me slightly. And so I got up and
- 11:07Speaker 5: I was kneeing him in the head and trying to
- 11:10Speaker 5: put my my foot kind of on his throat, and
- 11:14Speaker 5: I got a personal foul on the planet on the play,
- 11:17Speaker 5: and I came to the sidelines. That cower like grabs
- 11:20Speaker 5: me because it put whoever we were playing in the
- 11:22Speaker 5: red zone, you know, in the scoring position. So he's like,
- 11:26Speaker 5: how could you do that? You got to know the situation,
- 11:29Speaker 5: you got to know that you just put them in
- 11:30Speaker 5: the red zone. And he said, next time, I love
- 11:34Speaker 5: your fight, I love what you're doing. Don't do it
- 11:36Speaker 5: right in front of the official.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I can literally picture him saying that right now.
- 11:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I real. He grabbed me right around the neck,
- 11:46Speaker 5: you know, and was just like and if you didn't
- 11:49Speaker 5: know coach Kawer, like when he got in your face,
- 11:52Speaker 5: he used to spit, you know, spit would fly all
- 11:54Speaker 5: over the place, and so it's like, man, I'm getting
- 11:57Speaker 5: hose down here. Well he's chewing me out. But he
- 12:01Speaker 5: likes people to show fight, and I think he liked
- 12:03Speaker 5: that for me on that play. And you know, coach
- 12:07Speaker 5: Tomlin came in, uh what two thousand and ten nine.
- 12:13Speaker 3: No, I want to say, I want to say seven seven.
- 12:16Speaker 5: So I got hit in the head a few times.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Try and keep my numbers together. But yeah, it was
- 12:24Speaker 5: different cale. You know, Caller was a coach that had
- 12:29Speaker 5: a great resume. He'd been to the Super Bowl before.
- 12:32Speaker 5: He always had tough teams. He was from Pittsburgh. You know,
- 12:35Speaker 5: we didn't know a ton about coach Tomlin except that
- 12:39Speaker 5: he had coached in a Super Bowl with Tampa and
- 12:41Speaker 5: was up in Minnesota as their defensive coordinator. So he
- 12:45Speaker 5: was a defensive guy. But coach came in and he
- 12:49Speaker 5: let everybody know too who was boss. We had one
- 12:52Speaker 5: of the toughest training camps that year of my life.
- 12:55Speaker 5: You know. He wanted everybody to know that he meant
- 12:58Speaker 5: business and wanted to get back to the super Bowl
- 13:00Speaker 5: and not just get there, but and win. Ended up
- 13:04Speaker 5: doing it the next year, which is pretty incredible.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Some great memories.
- 13:10Speaker 4: And it's funny because I feel like, even though we've
- 13:12Speaker 4: got about fifteen minutes of this podcast, but I feel
- 13:15Speaker 4: like when you look at your CV and you look
- 13:16Speaker 4: at what you've done, we could probably sit for a
- 13:19Speaker 4: full couple of days in a fishing center and leisure
- 13:22Speaker 4: in the pub in Dublin and talk through this. I
- 13:25Speaker 4: do want to talk about the obvious one. It's funny
- 13:26Speaker 4: because we sort of spoke off camera with this. Cam
- 13:30Speaker 4: Heyward came over not unannounced. It was planned for a
- 13:33Speaker 4: few months, but I didn't realize it was going to
- 13:34Speaker 4: be a few days after you left the island. But
- 13:37Speaker 4: we've seen the video last week, Cam walking onto the
- 13:39Speaker 4: field and seeing Cook Park. As somebody that's played in
- 13:42Speaker 4: so many different stadiums around the world. What did you
- 13:45Speaker 4: make of Krook Park And can you imagine what's going
- 13:48Speaker 4: to be like later this year?
- 13:50Speaker 5: It was really quiet in there, you know. That's what
- 13:52Speaker 5: was amazing to me when I got to be in there,
- 13:55Speaker 5: just how quiet the inside of the stadium was. In fact,
- 13:57Speaker 5: when I got back to the States after announcing pick,
- 14:00Speaker 5: everyone was like, you weren't over there. That was a
- 14:02Speaker 5: green screen, like, be real, that never even happened. I'm like, no,
- 14:07Speaker 5: I was there. That was pro park, Like. It was
- 14:09Speaker 5: just quiet.
- 14:12Speaker 4: In the sad time at the night. It was bad time,
- 14:14Speaker 4: and people people replied to me, and I was like, like, no,
- 14:17Speaker 4: he's here. It was like a selfie of me and
- 14:19Speaker 4: I can guarantee he's here. But like, honestly, from watching
- 14:22Speaker 4: that back, it just looked really cool. And I remember
- 14:25Speaker 4: like you sort of kneeled the pick, and when you've
- 14:27Speaker 4: got the gods of one hundred players that you could pick,
- 14:30Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's not easy to do that. They're
- 14:31Speaker 4: under pressure and people wondering, Brad, that is live. You
- 14:35Speaker 4: do record another one just in case after, but that
- 14:37Speaker 4: that is live as well. And the thing that I
- 14:39Speaker 4: find I to hope you have stated with this. When
- 14:42Speaker 4: I went to Akroascher at Christmas time for the Chiefs game,
- 14:45Speaker 4: I remember looking to my left from the fifty yard
- 14:48Speaker 4: line and just seeing the hills of Pittsburgh and I
- 14:51Speaker 4: look at the hill at Core Park and I think,
- 14:53Speaker 4: I know it's different, but it's it's so sort of similar,
- 14:56Speaker 4: like to an extent, and there's going to be so
- 14:57Speaker 4: much black and black and yellow there, black and gold there,
- 15:00Speaker 4: and you can just sort of imagine that the ta
- 15:02Speaker 4: is a gonna fly him on here.
- 15:03Speaker 3: You have to get over for that. You have to
- 15:05Speaker 3: find a way.
- 15:06Speaker 5: I'll be there, I promise you. I actually talked to
- 15:09Speaker 5: Omar Kahn today, the general manager, and uh, I said,
- 15:13Speaker 5: you know I'm coming, so you better plan on it,
- 15:16Speaker 5: and they can't keep me away. I'll swim over there
- 15:19Speaker 5: if I if I have to, Michael, but Crunk Park
- 15:22Speaker 5: was incredible. I mean, you know, to get to kind
- 15:26Speaker 5: of see all the pictures of the athletes that have
- 15:30Speaker 5: played there and the history that's there and the different
- 15:34Speaker 5: things that have happened throughout the course of time, you know,
- 15:37Speaker 5: it's incredible. So I know it's going to be electric
- 15:41Speaker 5: with a regular season NFL game rock in that place
- 15:46Speaker 5: you know later this year.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I think as well, it's that can actually talked about
- 15:52Speaker 4: what the team has, and I know you've seen it
- 15:54Speaker 4: first time. Now it's unlike Ganahan and the our team
- 15:56Speaker 4: has so for people that's there only a few days
- 15:59Speaker 4: I from having the called Creek details, we're excited.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I can see Brad's face lightened up.
- 16:03Speaker 4: I think you saying that you'll see that, You'll swim,
- 16:06Speaker 4: You'll swim over.
- 16:06Speaker 3: There if you have to.
- 16:07Speaker 4: That's probably a graphic for social media next week. Just
- 16:11Speaker 4: just finally before we go, Brad, it's been great to
- 16:13Speaker 4: get to know you over the last couple of weeks.
- 16:15Speaker 4: One thing we talked a little bit about, you've maybe
- 16:17Speaker 4: had a wee bit more time to sort of digest it,
- 16:20Speaker 4: even just as a fun now not just a player.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Did you like the draft picks we hoppy, especially those
- 16:24Speaker 4: day free selections.
- 16:26Speaker 5: I was very happy with our draft. Of course, I
- 16:28Speaker 5: believe that games are one and lost up front, so
- 16:31Speaker 5: I love seeing that we were, you know, going after
- 16:35Speaker 5: some really tough offensive linemen or defensive lineman early in
- 16:38Speaker 5: the draft that have a lot of upside and a
- 16:42Speaker 5: lot of grit. Uh, you know, I was great. I
- 16:45Speaker 5: think it's great that we got White or Hya. I'm
- 16:48Speaker 5: pretty sure that's how it is Ya black Ya to Pick.
- 16:52Speaker 5: I mean, uh, you know, I saved the card and
- 16:55Speaker 5: wrote a little something on there. I'll give it to him.
- 16:57Speaker 5: I'm gonna go down and see the rookies next week,
- 16:59Speaker 5: so I'll give that to him. His mom can put
- 17:02Speaker 5: it in the scrap book, or dad or someone can
- 17:05Speaker 5: have it for later. But and then will Howard. I mean,
- 17:09Speaker 5: we were all talking about him, hoping that you know
- 17:12Speaker 5: that that would fall to the Steelers and great to
- 17:15Speaker 5: be there with Steeler Nation Ireland and get a big
- 17:19Speaker 5: quarterback like that that has a lot of potential, has
- 17:21Speaker 5: been to the National Championship. I think there should be
- 17:24Speaker 5: a lot of excitement coming around this team this year.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Exciting a few months, hopefully we get a chance to
- 17:30Speaker 4: see over here again. But Brad, I said it to
