- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after Party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party. The bridge to get you from one full
- 0:36Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other. The backyard to dig
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to
- 0:42Speaker 1: confront the myth, to reclaim the story. On this bonus episode,
- 0:46Speaker 1: a look at our favorite music history memoirs and rock
- 0:49Speaker 1: and roll biographies. A new song you're gonna love, and
- 0:52Speaker 1: an old song that you won't be able to stop
- 0:54Speaker 1: listening to. We're previewing next week's episode on Patti Smith Plus.
- 0:58Speaker 1: We get into your emails, comments, dms, and as always,
- 1:02Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie. This is the podcast for
- 1:04Speaker 1: the musically obsessed, the outsiders, the independent thinkers, who knows
- 1:07Speaker 1: that the best history is the history that gets buried.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Disgrace Lands, where I tell the stories they didn't want told,
- 1:13Speaker 1: the kind you'll end up telling someone else.
- 1:16Speaker 2: All Right, disc goes. Let's get into it all right,
- 1:33Speaker 2: disc goes.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm back once again, back in the chair, back behind
- 1:36Speaker 1: the mic, back in your ears. After some psycho level
- 1:40Speaker 1: travel last week, I flew out to Los Angeles from
- 1:42Speaker 1: the East Coast, arrived, checked into the hotel, got into
- 1:46Speaker 1: an argument with room service over some salmon. Woke up
- 1:48Speaker 1: the next day, headed out to a studio at an
- 1:50Speaker 1: undisclosed location, filmed an interview that will be live on
- 1:54Speaker 1: one of the bigger streamers next week, and then I
- 1:56Speaker 1: went straight back to the airport, grabbed the Red Eye,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and flew home. Nothing like cross country travel for one night,
- 2:03Speaker 1: but it was worth it. I can't wait for you
- 2:05Speaker 1: to hear this interview and for you to hear the
- 2:07Speaker 1: news that we've got coming to you all next week.
- 2:10Speaker 1: The entire way. The whole time I was traveling, I
- 2:14Speaker 1: had Dave Grohl's books Storyteller on my lap and in
- 2:17Speaker 1: my hands, and was barreling through it in order to
- 2:21Speaker 1: keep up with research for the Foo Fighters episode that
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm running this week. The book Storyteller Dave GROLs Storyteller.
- 2:27Speaker 1: It's an easy read, feels like it was easy to
- 2:30Speaker 1: write as well. If I'm being honest, there's not a
- 2:33Speaker 1: lot there. I mean, it's entertaining, don't get me wrong.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It's Dave Grohl, and the dude is charisma personified, and
- 2:41Speaker 1: he's lived one of, if not the most charmed rock
- 2:45Speaker 1: and roll lives that I can think of for a
- 2:47Speaker 1: rock star. And not that it hasn't come without a cost,
- 2:51Speaker 1: of course, and that cost, at least as it pertains
- 2:55Speaker 1: to the loss of Kirk Cobaine, is documented in the book.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Of Course. This book was written and released before the
- 3:02Speaker 1: death of Taylor Hawkins, so that loss is not detailed
- 3:06Speaker 1: in Storyteller, but neither are what I assume are some
- 3:11Speaker 1: of the more revealing bits from Dave Grohl's backstory. And
- 3:17Speaker 1: so is any sort of narrative thread. It's it's kind
- 3:22Speaker 1: it's I don't want to say it's all over the place.
- 3:23Speaker 1: It's not, but you kind of have to go into
- 3:26Speaker 1: it knowing gave Roll's story to figure out how the
- 3:29Speaker 1: whole thing is playing out. Not that it's hard to
- 3:31Speaker 1: figure out, it's easy, but it's not hanging on any
- 3:36Speaker 1: sort of one theme other than and I don't want
- 3:40Speaker 1: to discount this the joy that Dave Grole gets from music,
- 3:45Speaker 1: which is important and shouldn't be overlooked. But again, as
- 3:50Speaker 1: far as memoirs go, it's it's kind of lacking. But
- 3:54Speaker 1: the book does succeed on quick flashes into Dave's incredible life,
- 3:59Speaker 1: a hypercharged by jaw dropping experiences. Dave Grole bringing Paul
- 4:04Speaker 1: McCartney to meet ac DC, Dave Role performing for President Obama,
- 4:09Speaker 1: Dave Groll trying to get into Panteris Strip Club. The
- 4:12Speaker 1: book is a ton of fun, because Dave Groll's life
- 4:15Speaker 1: is a ton of fun. But the best music history
- 4:18Speaker 1: memoirs they reveal something else, not just the darker side,
- 4:22Speaker 1: but the vulnerability. And there's some of that here for sure,
- 4:26Speaker 1: but not enough. I can't fault them for it. I mean,
- 4:31Speaker 1: he's got about ten albums of heart on the sleeve
- 4:33Speaker 1: of arena rock anthems, and he's a musician on a memoirs,
- 4:37Speaker 1: so you know, it is what it is. They can't
- 4:40Speaker 1: all be Patty Smith, which brings me to my point
- 4:43Speaker 1: reading Dave Grohl's book on the heels of reading Patty
- 4:46Speaker 1: Smith's Just Kids and Mtrain is it's kind of jarring
- 4:52Speaker 1: because Just Kids might be one of my favorite memoirs
- 4:56Speaker 1: or autobiographies by the way I just learned, like seconds ago,
- 5:00Speaker 1: what the difference is between a memoir and an autobiography.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I always thought that a memoir was just a pretentious
- 5:05Speaker 1: person's version of an autobiography, like the way John Malcovitch
- 5:08Speaker 1: pronounces the word memoir and burne after reading my memoir,
- 5:11Speaker 1: or how my memoir my memoir. I can't do it.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I can't do John Malcovich, forgive me. I almost ran
- 5:20Speaker 1: over once. I'm mass Ava and Cambridge. But that's another story.
- 5:24Speaker 1: A memoir is about a specific time in the writer's life,
- 5:28Speaker 1: and an autobiography is more of a cradle to the
- 5:31Speaker 1: grave story. So by that definition, I'm comparing apples to
- 5:36Speaker 1: donuts here when I'm comparing Just Kids to Dave Girl's Storyteller.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Just Kids is Patti Smith's account mostly of her time
- 5:45Speaker 1: in New York City with Robert Maplethorpe in the late
- 5:48Speaker 1: sixties and seventies, and Storyteller is kind of Dave story
- 5:50Speaker 1: from birth up until the time he wrote it a
- 5:52Speaker 1: couple of years ago. But still one is vastly superior
- 5:55Speaker 1: to the other and far more of an enjoyable read.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And that's the Patty Smith book Just Kids. It's one
- 6:02Speaker 1: of the best memoirs I've ever read, really truly, and
- 6:04Speaker 1: I know that's the case for a lot of people.
- 6:06Speaker 1: A lot of people will tell you that same thing.
- 6:08Speaker 1: A lot of people read that book, even non music obsessives,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and it resonated with them, and it's understandable. It's incredible,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and it forced me to think about Patti Smith in
- 6:17Speaker 1: a different way, in a deeper way, and to hear
- 6:19Speaker 1: her music differently. And I can't say that Dave Girl's
- 6:22Speaker 1: book did that for me. I mean it did on
- 6:24Speaker 1: some level. Of course, you're being brought into a part
- 6:28Speaker 1: of his life that you haven't really seen before, so
- 6:31Speaker 1: of course you're maybe thinking about him in a fuller way,
- 6:34Speaker 1: but not really in a different way. You're certainly I'm
- 6:35Speaker 1: certainly not listening to his music in a different way.
- 6:39Speaker 1: About all this got me thinking and talking to some
- 6:42Speaker 1: Double Elevis folks about what the best memoirs and autobiographies
- 6:47Speaker 1: from music history are. Spring is now officially here, which
- 6:51Speaker 1: means summer is officially right around the corner. So if
- 6:54Speaker 1: you're in need of some reading recommendations, I'm going to
- 6:58Speaker 1: list some of my favorite music books penned by musicians.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Uh here in this after party, and I'm gonna ask
- 7:05Speaker 1: you guys to hit me up with your recommendations as well.
- 7:09Speaker 1: You are a very well read podcast listening audience, and
- 7:13Speaker 1: I know you've read a bunch of music books that
- 7:16Speaker 1: I have not read. So I want your inputs six one, seven,
- 7:20Speaker 1: nine oh six sixty sixty three eight voicemail and text
- 7:23Speaker 1: at Disgrace Lampod on the Socials. Disgrace Lampod at gmail
- 7:26Speaker 1: dot com if you want to email me. Aside from
- 7:29Speaker 1: Just Kids by Patti Smith, one of my favorite music
- 7:31Speaker 1: autobiographies is Get in the Van by Henry Rollins. Now,
- 7:35Speaker 1: when I was a kid in a touring band, this
- 7:37Speaker 1: was kind of our how to manual. Now, nothing we
- 7:41Speaker 1: ever did was as intense as what Henry and Black
- 7:44Speaker 1: Flag had to do in the eighties, but we knew
- 7:46Speaker 1: in North Star when we saw it, and this was it.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Black Flag were like pilgrims as far as punk rock
- 7:56Speaker 1: and hardcore music is concerned. They went out and they
- 7:59Speaker 1: created They didn't only just tour, They went out and
- 8:02Speaker 1: they created a circuit that is still still being used today.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I mean, this is in the eighties, which is insane,
- 8:08Speaker 1: and this book has it all, it's fantastic. I highly
- 8:11Speaker 1: recommend it if you have not read it, even if
- 8:12Speaker 1: you could give a shit about punk rock or Black Flag.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Henry Ronalds is one of the most entertaining writers that
- 8:18Speaker 1: I've ever come across. He's fantastic. Now. Another one one
- 8:22Speaker 1: that I was surprised by recently is I Am Brian
- 8:25Speaker 1: Wilson by Brian Wilson, a book that I read last
- 8:28Speaker 1: year after Brian died and before hurrying out an episode
- 8:33Speaker 1: on Brian in a fit of inspiration. This book really
- 8:37Speaker 1: blew me away. First of all, I already knew the
- 8:39Speaker 1: story like the back of my hand before I read it.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Most people do. But the telling of Brian's story by
- 8:47Speaker 1: Brian Wilson is about as honest and vulnerable a depiction
- 8:52Speaker 1: as you could hope for in an autobiography. And the
- 8:56Speaker 1: man's voice, My God, that voice, all the childlike wonder
- 9:02Speaker 1: and unpretentious genius of the Beach Boys songs, of the
- 9:06Speaker 1: Brian Wilson songs that you love, It's all on full
- 9:10Speaker 1: display in every single passage in this book. This book,
- 9:15Speaker 1: like the best songs by its author, will make you cry.
- 9:19Speaker 1: It's great. I highly recommend it. This next book, however,
- 9:23Speaker 1: will make you puke, and that's Marilyn Manson's The Long
- 9:26Speaker 1: Hard Road out of Hell. I've read a lot of
- 9:30Speaker 1: rockstar autobiographies, and never have I read one like this.
- 9:36Speaker 1: The man is practically begging to be hauled off to jail.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Marilyn Manson aka Brian Warner is an evil genius, and
- 9:45Speaker 1: he really leans into the evil in this book. I
- 9:49Speaker 1: took this information about as far as I could in
- 9:51Speaker 1: our Marilyn Manson episode without before completely grossing myself out.
- 9:57Speaker 1: There's a lot in this book that I didn't get,
- 10:00Speaker 1: and you know it's a lot in the episode that's presented.
- 10:04Speaker 1: You know, my point of view is not his point
- 10:06Speaker 1: of view, especially on him, as you'll hear when you
- 10:09Speaker 1: hear the Marri Manson episode if you haven't heard it already,
- 10:13Speaker 1: so check that out. The road map, however, for Manson's
- 10:17Speaker 1: autobiography is Motley Cruz Dirt by my guy Neil Strauss,
- 10:21Speaker 1: which kind of broke the mold for bad boy rock
- 10:25Speaker 1: star tell als I didn't grow up a fan of
- 10:29Speaker 1: Motley Crue, or of hair Metal or any of that
- 10:34Speaker 1: lame mass spandex cliche sunset strip rock and roll rockstar bullshit.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I grew up on punk and hardcore, so these guys
- 10:42Speaker 1: were the opposite of what I was into or even
- 10:45Speaker 1: what I was willing to tolerate as a young man.
- 10:49Speaker 1: As a young man, I get it now, and I
- 10:51Speaker 1: can take it now objectively. When this book came out, though,
- 10:55Speaker 1: like I said, I was still a young man and
- 10:57Speaker 1: I was still kind of, you know, in the throes
- 10:59Speaker 1: of of punk and hardcore. And I read it anyways,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and the only reason I read it was I was
- 11:06Speaker 1: staying at my friend Julie Duffy's place in Manhattan. At
- 11:11Speaker 1: the time. Julie was tour manager for like some huge artists,
- 11:16Speaker 1: like she still is, but at the time I think
- 11:18Speaker 1: she was on the road with Justin Timberlake or John Cougar,
- 11:21Speaker 1: Mellen Camp something like that. Anyway, she'd be on the
- 11:24Speaker 1: road all the time, and she would just let me
- 11:25Speaker 1: stay at her place on the Upper west Side, which sorry,
- 11:28Speaker 1: Upper east Side, east Side, Yeah, Upper east Side. It
- 11:32Speaker 1: was great, super generous, thanks Stuffy, still appreciate it. But
- 11:37Speaker 1: I was there one day and I think I had
- 11:39Speaker 1: a show that night or a meeting or something, and
- 11:42Speaker 1: I had nothing to do, and she had this book
- 11:46Speaker 1: in her apartment, and it was one of those things
- 11:48Speaker 1: where I just dropped my bag and I opened up
- 11:50Speaker 1: the book just to check it out, and I started
- 11:52Speaker 1: reading and I just didn't stop until I finished it.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I read. I read it all the way through. Just incredible,
- 12:01Speaker 1: and I loved it. It is out of control. Okay,
- 12:05Speaker 1: forget about the Netflix series, forget about that. Read the
- 12:08Speaker 1: book okay, and then read the Manson book if you
- 12:12Speaker 1: haven't already, because you know, by Marilyn Manson standards, the
- 12:17Speaker 1: Motley Creue autobiography is almost cute by comparison. Okay, these
- 12:21Speaker 1: next two. I was trying to get my thoughts together
- 12:24Speaker 1: about these next two, and I scribbled down this in
- 12:27Speaker 1: my notes today Chuck Berry's Autobiography and Glow by Rick James.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I was forced to reckon with a question that I
- 12:35Speaker 1: had encounter for the rest of my career. How the
- 12:37Speaker 1: hell did these guys admit all of this and get
- 12:40Speaker 1: away with it and not end up in jail? I
- 12:44Speaker 1: wrote that down too quickly, because obviously, if anybody knows,
- 12:47Speaker 1: it's me. They both went to jail. And these the
- 12:52Speaker 1: details in these books is the reason why. The more
- 12:56Speaker 1: interesting question is how did they end up being sort
- 12:58Speaker 1: of accepted back into I don't want to say polite society,
- 13:03Speaker 1: I guess with Chuck Berry. I mean, yeah, before Chuck
- 13:05Speaker 1: Berry died, there was this massive event for him at
- 13:07Speaker 1: the the the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library in Boston.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I remember it, and you know, a lot of a
- 13:13Speaker 1: lot of you know, Boston women areas anyways, were there,
- 13:17Speaker 1: and I remember just thinking that I had a little
- 13:19Speaker 1: fomo because I wasn't there, and I probably could have
- 13:21Speaker 1: figured out how to finagle my way in at the time,
- 13:24Speaker 1: but I just didn't. But on the same at the
- 13:28Speaker 1: same time, I was also kind of like, what, yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 1: you guys all know what this guy did, right, Like
- 13:36Speaker 1: you know, not right, I know, you know you're too
- 13:38Speaker 1: smart not to know. You know, we're just ignoring it.
- 13:44Speaker 1: It's all in this book. It's crazy. It's crazy. And
- 13:49Speaker 1: I know he invented rock and roll. And I know
- 13:52Speaker 1: that's a controversial statement. I didn't say it, Flipping Lee.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I actually believe that. But yeah, he also did some
- 14:00Speaker 1: pretty pretty pretty fucked up stuff and admitted to it
- 14:06Speaker 1: and in a lot of cases didn't apologize for it.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Rick James never really had it, was never really involved
- 14:13Speaker 1: with polite society. I don't think even even in the seventies,
- 14:19Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe but not really. And then but still,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know, after all the stuff with the abduction of
- 14:27Speaker 1: women and the burning them with crack pipes, and it's
- 14:31Speaker 1: still Rick James, bitch, you know what I mean, like
- 14:34Speaker 1: it was, He's still kind of a cultural touch point.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And when you read this book, in particular Glow by
- 14:40Speaker 1: Rick James as opposed to Chuck Berry's autobiography Glow by
- 14:43Speaker 1: Rick James, which was finished after he died, if I
- 14:48Speaker 1: if I'm remembering correctly, so it's not a pure autobiography,
- 14:54Speaker 1: but man, man, oh man, what he admits to in
- 14:58Speaker 1: the pages of this book are shocking, shocking, and I
- 15:01Speaker 1: needed a break after I read it, that's how shocking
- 15:04Speaker 1: it was. So those are a few. There's a ton
- 15:08Speaker 1: ton of others, a ton of others. If you're in
- 15:10Speaker 1: the mid century New York and mafia history, then Tommy
- 15:14Speaker 1: James is me the Mob and music. That's a must read.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Rod Stewart's Rod is surprisingly readable and smart. Keith Richards's
- 15:23Speaker 1: Life is practically canon at this point. Also, Keith wrote
- 15:27Speaker 1: it with author J. R. Moherringer, if that's how you
- 15:30Speaker 1: pronounce it. JR. Mohringer also has a memoir called The
- 15:34Speaker 1: Tender Bar. It's about his life and it is incredible.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Not a music book, but it's incredible. I think I
- 15:40Speaker 1: think that's the one that George Clooney and Ben Affleck
- 15:45Speaker 1: aflac Affleck, Affleck, Ben Affleck. Why can't I say that
- 15:49Speaker 1: all of a sudden turned into a movie The Tender
- 15:52Speaker 1: Bar filmed it up in? Where'd they film it? Sean
- 15:56Speaker 1: Salem helped me out? Is it Salem? Where they filmed?
- 15:59Speaker 1: I think they've didn't sale somewhere up there haverl something
- 16:03Speaker 1: like that. Similarly, I believe Henry Rollins ghost wrote David
- 16:09Speaker 1: Lee Ross's autobiography, but I'm not sure about that. If
- 16:13Speaker 1: anyone wants to track that down and let me know,
- 16:15Speaker 1: it'd be super appreciated. And so here's a couple more
- 16:20Speaker 1: that I'm just I haven't read, but I'm psyched to read.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Kerry Brownstein's Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, Richard Hell's
- 16:26Speaker 1: I Dreamed I Was a Very Clean Tramp, and Melissa
- 16:29Speaker 1: off DeMar's new nineties memoir Even the Good Girls Will Cry.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And I'm also related to that because Melissa was in whole.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I am stoked. I'm just stoked, very excited to see
- 16:42Speaker 1: this Courtney Love documentary when and if it ever comes out,
- 16:45Speaker 1: which the rumors are it's coming out this year, let's hope.
- 16:48Speaker 1: So all right, But I think if you're asking me
- 16:54Speaker 1: what my favorite musician autobiography or memoir is in terms
- 16:58Speaker 1: of pure enjoying, it kind of an unconventional choice here,
- 17:02Speaker 1: but I think I would have to say Beastie Boys
- 17:04Speaker 1: book by Michael Diamond and Adam Horowitz, which is about
- 17:09Speaker 1: as inventive as you can get. That said, it's not
- 17:13Speaker 1: just an autobiography, yes, it kind of is. It's part memoir.
- 17:18Speaker 1: It's also part oral history, with accounts from folks who
- 17:21Speaker 1: were there with the Beasti's during their formative and the
- 17:25Speaker 1: most impactful moments in their careers. It's also part scrap book,
- 17:29Speaker 1: it's part mix tape. It's just incredible, and the band
- 17:33Speaker 1: doesn't shy away from their worst moments, specifically the honesty
- 17:37Speaker 1: that they bring to the less than noble way in
- 17:40Speaker 1: which they treated original drummer Kate Shamanbach, or the embarrassing
- 17:44Speaker 1: way in which they handled becoming the dick joke that
- 17:46Speaker 1: they were trying to tell with license to ill. All
- 17:50Speaker 1: that said, if you're a fan of eighties nineties culture,
- 17:53Speaker 1: not just hip hop music, not Beastie Boys fans, whatever,
- 17:57Speaker 1: you're just a fan of that history, that time in
- 17:59Speaker 1: America and culture, this book's great. It's just great, truly
- 18:03Speaker 1: great inventive storytelling, and it is worth a place on
- 18:06Speaker 1: your shelf, if not in your beach bag this summer. Again,
- 18:10Speaker 1: even if you're not a Beastie Boys fan, I wouldn't
- 18:13Speaker 1: bring it to the beach. It's a good book, good
- 18:15Speaker 1: like hardcover, you know what I mean. I wouldn't ruin
- 18:17Speaker 1: it with all that sand, all that stuff, all right, So,
- 18:20Speaker 1: as you guys know, on the subject, still, Seth writes
- 18:24Speaker 1: a bunch of stories and disgrace and so there's a
- 18:25Speaker 1: whole slew of musician autobiographies that he's read that I haven't,
- 18:30Speaker 1: and some real classics like Peter Hook from New Order's
- 18:33Speaker 1: book and Robbie and Levon from the band their books.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And Zeth is also the man who helms Hollywood Land,
- 18:41Speaker 1: so he's read more memoirs and autobiographies from Hollywood than
- 18:46Speaker 1: I have. But I don't think he's read aero Flynn's autobiography.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I also don't think he's read You'll Never make Love
- 18:52Speaker 1: in this Town again like I have. So I'm excited
- 18:56Speaker 1: to talk to Zeth about his favorites, including those from
- 18:59Speaker 1: La La Land, not just for music, in the exclusive

- 19:20Speaker 1: on Sunday's people. Okay, Sunday, Sunday Sunday. So this Sunday,
- 19:27Speaker 1: while you're up, you know, up late in the morning,
- 19:30Speaker 1: you know, making your eggs and baky or whatever, cheppening
- 19:33Speaker 1: your kids around in the car, chilling in the garden

- 19:39Speaker 1: podcast app. Check out a classic episode of disgrace Ind.
- 19:43Speaker 1: This weekend, we're headed down the seven mile Road of
- 19:46Speaker 1: Excess and Cocaine Anamos with Stevie Nicks and the rest
- 19:49Speaker 1: of Fleetwood Mac. You're gonna wanna, You're gonna want to
- 19:52Speaker 1: be there with us. You want You're gonna want to
- 19:53Speaker 1: come on this trip with us, all right, and next week,
- 19:57Speaker 1: next week after that, it is finally here at the
- 20:00Speaker 1: launch of our new season, our new episode on Patti Smith,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and I cannot wait for you to hear this opus
- 20:06Speaker 1: that we've put together. It's about as true crime and
- 20:09Speaker 1: rock and roll as you can get. And when you're listening,
- 20:12Speaker 1: be thinking about your favorite rock and roll memoirs or
- 20:15Speaker 1: music history autobiographies and come back to me with your recommendations,
- 20:19Speaker 1: even if they're ones that we've already spoken about. Sometimes
- 20:23Speaker 1: getting consensus on a book is critical to getting someone
- 20:27Speaker 1: to crack open said book. And I really want to
- 20:29Speaker 1: inspire a solid summer reading list here for you guys
- 20:33Speaker 1: and myself over the course of this this episode in
- 20:38Speaker 1: the next after party. So next week's question of the
- 20:40Speaker 1: week is going to be which musician memoir or autobiography
- 20:44Speaker 1: would you recommend? Six one seven, nine oh six six
- 20:47Speaker 1: sixty three eight voicemail and text at Disgrace lam Pod
- 20:51Speaker 1: on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok and sometimes x Disgrace Lampod
- 20:55Speaker 1: at gmail dot com on the email machine. I will
- 20:58Speaker 1: be back after this with your voicemails and text, dms
- 21:01Speaker 1: and more. All right back in the saddle down on
- 21:27Speaker 1: the corner out on the street, sitting in the waiting room. Aha,
- 21:30Speaker 1: in the phone booth, it's the one across the hall.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I'm hanging on the telephone with you guys. Six one seven,
- 21:35Speaker 1: nine oh six sixty sixty three eight. Let's check out
- 21:38Speaker 1: what Lily has to say in Northern California.
- 21:43Speaker 3: This is Lily from Roland, California, just responding to the
- 21:48Speaker 3: episode from last week about that's the question about favorite
- 21:52Speaker 3: movie soundtrack, And man, I have a couple in mine,
- 21:58Speaker 3: but I think insure Land is my favorite. Also, that
- 22:04Speaker 3: movie is so underrated, but I mean the soundtrack really
- 22:08Speaker 3: just has so many amazing songs, like from the Replacements,
- 22:10Speaker 3: all of an Underground Bowie, New York Doll, Big Star,
- 22:14Speaker 3: I mean, just incredible. And I just love that movie
- 22:18Speaker 3: so much. I discovered it a kind of a formative
- 22:23Speaker 3: place in my life and it just has stuck with
- 22:26Speaker 3: me ever since. And also it's just such an underrated
- 22:28Speaker 3: movie all around, great cast, just great cinematography everything. I
- 22:34Speaker 3: love that movie so much. But some of my other
- 22:37Speaker 3: picks for best soundtrack were Empire Records Pump Up the
- 22:42Speaker 3: Volume Pretty in Pink, Donny Darko, Twenty Century Women, I mean,
- 22:48Speaker 3: and of course Almost Famous, which is also one of my.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Other favorite movies. Lily, thank you for the message. I
- 22:54Speaker 1: think you're intending Zeth to get that message. But since
- 22:57Speaker 1: Beeth and I have this soundtrack conversation that is ongoing,
- 23:03Speaker 1: I thought I would jump in here because you mentioned
- 23:04Speaker 1: Adventureland and I've never seen adventure Land ever, and I
- 23:09Speaker 1: love your depiction of the movie in the soundtrack and
- 23:12Speaker 1: your passion for it, and I am inspired to watch
- 23:15Speaker 1: it now and maybe it will end up being an
- 23:17Speaker 1: episode of our video podcast. This film should be played loud.
- 23:21Speaker 1: So thanks to the message, I want to talk to Seth.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna let him know to check it out as well.
- 23:27Speaker 1: All right, let's see what the three two three has
- 23:30Speaker 1: to say.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Jake, there is no britpop without these two bands, Stone
- 23:36Speaker 4: Roses and Inspiral Carpets. In fact, Noel Gallagher was the
- 23:41Speaker 4: guitar tack for the Inspiral Carpets and wrote many of
- 23:44Speaker 4: those Oasis songs while tecking for the Carpets. Also, you
- 23:48Speaker 4: need to look into the Happy Mondays, specifically the recording
- 23:52Speaker 4: of one of their albums in Barbados. They literally sold
- 23:55Speaker 4: furniture from the recording studio to buy crack stories of
- 23:59Speaker 4: driving cars to the front of bars. It's fucking wild anyway,
- 24:04Speaker 4: love the.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Show, all right, three two three, Thank you so much
- 24:06Speaker 1: for the message you know in Spiral Carpets. I did
- 24:09Speaker 1: mention them. Actually, I don't know if I mentioned them
- 24:11Speaker 1: in the Oasis episode. I knew Noel Gallagher guitar TechEd
- 24:16Speaker 1: for them, and that that's where the Oasis songs first
- 24:19Speaker 1: came together. I might not have even mentioned them, but
- 24:21Speaker 1: I did. I do remember reading about them in that research.
- 24:27Speaker 1: But yeah, I hear I hear you on the importance
- 24:29Speaker 1: of the band given uh, given what they meant for
- 24:34Speaker 1: nol An Oasis and in Oasis lore, and I cannot
- 24:38Speaker 1: wait to get into this Happy Monday story. You sound stoked.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I'm stoked it's gonna be. I think I'm not the
- 24:43Speaker 1: next one I research and write, but within the next handful. Okay,
- 24:48Speaker 1: So that means it'll be out this year at some point.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Thanks for the call. Three two three, all right, guys
- 24:53Speaker 1: six one six six, six three eight. You want to
- 24:56Speaker 1: get in touch with me about anything, You can voicemail,
- 24:59Speaker 1: you can text, you can call me. You can text me,
- 25:01Speaker 1: you can email me disgracelanmdpod at gmail dot com. Jason
- 25:04Speaker 1: for the four one six texts in with hey love
- 25:08Speaker 1: the podcast, Happy anniversary. Listening to the latest episode and
- 25:12Speaker 1: thinking about the rock and roll books that started it
- 25:14Speaker 1: all for me, and it is No One Here Gets
- 25:17Speaker 1: Out Alive by Danny Sugarman and Jerry Hopkins. I remember
- 25:20Speaker 1: reading it one summer when I was in my middle
- 25:22Speaker 1: teenage years, working as an attendant behind a desk in
- 25:26Speaker 1: the change room of my local pool, handing out towels.
- 25:29Speaker 1: In fact, I think all the guys that worked at
- 25:31Speaker 1: the pool read this book because we passed that old
- 25:33Speaker 1: dog eared paperback around all summer. Since then, I've read
- 25:37Speaker 1: many rock and roll bios and autobios, so when I
- 25:40Speaker 1: discovered your podcast, Disgraceland, it was a no brainer for me,
- 25:42Speaker 1: and I've been listening ever since. Rock and Roller No
- 25:45Speaker 1: One Here Gets Out a Live one of the seminal
- 25:48Speaker 1: biographies rock and Roll Biographies by Jim Morrison. I think
- 25:52Speaker 1: that's the book that Oliver Stone based most of the
- 25:54Speaker 1: movie on. Anyways, and man, it must have hit you
- 25:58Speaker 1: four one six at the exact at right time. I
- 26:04Speaker 1: feel like just teenage boys in the I don't know
- 26:08Speaker 1: how we'll do R Jason in the sort of eighties nineties.
- 26:12Speaker 1: That was that was a sweet spot for being turned
- 26:14Speaker 1: on to Jim Morrison from the Doors. Sounds like that's
- 26:17Speaker 1: exactly what happened at the pool you're working at too.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Seven seven four Texan just finished the dead episodes. Good shit,
- 26:25Speaker 1: I've been ahead my whole life. I grew up a
- 26:27Speaker 1: hardcore kid in the Worcester area in the nineties. I
- 26:30Speaker 1: wish cast Irn, I wish cast Iron Hike had one
- 26:33Speaker 1: more album, would love another reunion. Thanks for all the
- 26:35Speaker 1: enjoyment Dan Dan in the seven seven four. Thanks brother,
- 26:38Speaker 1: that ain't happening unfortunately, but uh it's nice to know
- 26:41Speaker 1: people care. And if you saw if you went to
- 26:43Speaker 1: see cast Irn night back in the day, thank you
- 26:45Speaker 1: and happy you're a deadhead. I like how I like
- 26:49Speaker 1: that trajectory from punk kid to deadhead. It makes sense.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Doesn't feel like it makes sense, but trust me it does.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Six four six Good morning, love Foof, but love Nirvana
- 27:01Speaker 1: way more. Yeah, I guess taste this taste right. You're
- 27:06Speaker 1: gonna listen to something more than you're going to listen
- 27:08Speaker 1: to something else based on your taste. The more I've
- 27:11Speaker 1: been listening to food Fighters and doing this research over
- 27:14Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks, is the more I come
- 27:18Speaker 1: to realize, you know, I'm kind of food Fighters first
- 27:22Speaker 1: two albums, those are the records I like. I've never really,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I've never sought out food Fighters music on my own
- 27:29Speaker 1: to listen to after that until probably the last few years,
- 27:33Speaker 1: and every time I would hear a single, I'd just
- 27:36Speaker 1: kind of be like the same for me. And what
- 27:39Speaker 1: I realized is the singles that come, you know, on
- 27:43Speaker 1: the third, fourth albums and beyond, they weren't necessarily made
- 27:49Speaker 1: for me. They were made for the world at large,
- 27:52Speaker 1: and they were made to be delivered on stage in stadiums.
- 27:56Speaker 1: And I think what changed for me was I saw
- 27:58Speaker 1: I've seen food Fighters live and that that had That
- 28:01Speaker 1: had a lot to do with changing it, because I
- 28:03Speaker 1: loved those songs that I previously didn't like hearing them live,
- 28:08Speaker 1: the bigness of them. But even before that, before I
- 28:11Speaker 1: saw them live, I saw that Wembley Stadium gig that
- 28:16Speaker 1: they did. I think it was an HBO special or
- 28:18Speaker 1: something that ran it, and it was incredible. It's just
- 28:22Speaker 1: amazing and uh it really it really gave me a
- 28:26Speaker 1: new appreciation for the Foo Fighters and and I kind
- 28:28Speaker 1: of didn't realize why until now because I'm so deep
- 28:31Speaker 1: in it in the research. Anyhow, that's my take. I
- 28:34Speaker 1: love Nirvana as well. I've gone back and I kind
- 28:36Speaker 1: of I listened to Nevermind for the first time in
- 28:39Speaker 1: a long long time as an album the other night
- 28:42Speaker 1: when I was waiting to get on the plane, and
- 28:47Speaker 1: my god, it's so good. It's explosive. All three of
- 28:51Speaker 1: the records are incredible for different reasons, and they're all different,
- 28:55Speaker 1: you know, it's like that they're really those that run
- 28:57Speaker 1: of records. Man, it's just great. They're not repeating themselves
- 29:02Speaker 1: in any way. But that one, that one, My goodness.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Nine one text and Hey, Jake, absolutely love your show.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Amazing work. I'd really love to hear an episode on
- 29:11Speaker 1: Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon definitely the most underrated beautiful
- 29:14Speaker 1: band from the nineties. Thank you, keep up the good work.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Nine four one you were in luck. We've got a
- 29:19Speaker 1: Shannon Hoon episode coming your way a couple of months.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Sammy Sami from the seven six' five text and, HEY
- 29:27Speaker 1: i know this subject is literally two years too, Late
- 29:30Speaker 1: BUT i love that in The Mariah carey, episode you
- 29:33Speaker 1: specifically Mentioned I'm real by J lo And Jah rule
- 29:37Speaker 1: because the drum beat at the beginning of each segment
- 29:39Speaker 1: after a break in the bonus episodes always makes me
- 29:42Speaker 1: think of the drum beat to the beginning Of I'm
- 29:43Speaker 1: real and then that's stuck in my head for. Eternity Best,
- 29:47Speaker 1: sammy SAM, I, SAMMY i like the way you spell your. Name,
- 29:50Speaker 1: uh AND i like That disgraceline got something stuck in your?
- 29:54Speaker 1: Head makes me think we're doing doing our jobs right
- 29:57Speaker 1: three h two? Right Sent really no mention Of stone.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Roll we talked About Stone roses three or two is
- 30:02Speaker 1: referencing our after party last week on On, britpop and
- 30:08Speaker 1: uh yeah we Mentioned Stone. ROSES i mentioned.
- 30:11Speaker 4: THEM i.
- 30:11Speaker 1: DID i THINK i said they don't belong on the. List,
- 30:17Speaker 1: sorry BUT i did. THINK i do THINK i said
- 30:20Speaker 1: THAT i Love Stone, roses but they they, Predate they
- 30:23Speaker 1: pre date the era we're talking, about and that's that's
- 30:27Speaker 1: why they got. Mentioned but they weren't on the, list
- 30:29Speaker 1: you know WHAT i? Mean four one five rites In, Hey,
- 30:31Speaker 1: JAKE i am late to the Most Badass women In music.

- 30:37Speaker 1: enough time to list the reasons WHY i love the
- 30:39Speaker 1: podcast that's in the four oh five we talked About
- 30:42Speaker 1: Dolly parton SOMEONE i REMEMBER i read a text or
- 30:45Speaker 1: an email where someone someone called in and, SAID i
- 30:49Speaker 1: don't remember what they, said but it was About Dolly.
- 30:51Speaker 1: PARTON i, think or maybe that was just a CONVERSATION
- 30:54Speaker 1: i had with somebody in. Person it's all blending. Together,

- 32:27Speaker 1: With Love. Story i'm done talking About JOHN. F Kennedy.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Jr And Carolyn bassett in The. Night And i'm not
- 32:32Speaker 1: done talking about the. Nineties But i'm done talking about,
- 32:35Speaker 1: that that dumb show THAT i loved so, much And
- 32:38Speaker 1: i'm now very upset it's. Gone BUT i have a
- 32:42Speaker 1: new show and it's way. Better AND i don't have,
- 32:46Speaker 1: to you, know tell People i'm watching it in hushed
- 32:48Speaker 1: tones Because i'm embarrassed by. It not THAT i was
- 32:52Speaker 1: embarrassed by Watching Love. STORY i don't give fuck what
- 32:55Speaker 1: people think about WHAT i watch on television and everybod

- 33:06Speaker 1: watching is awesome AND i meant to watch it years.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Ago it came out about four or five years, AGO i,
- 33:10Speaker 1: think AND i just missed. IT i missed, IT i
- 33:13Speaker 1: think BECAUSE i didn't have My hulu password or. SOMETHING
- 33:15Speaker 1: i don't know what the reason. Was BUT i haven't
- 33:18Speaker 1: even Told zeth about this BECAUSE i can't wait for
- 33:21Speaker 1: his eye. Roll But i'm going to convince him that it's,
- 33:24Speaker 1: great And i'm going to get him to watch it
- 33:26Speaker 1: and hopefully get you guys to watch it as. Well
- 33:29Speaker 1: and there's some good music. Involved, okay that's going to
- 33:32Speaker 1: be happening over in The Rap party starting next. Week
- 33:34Speaker 1: we're gonna be doing our recommendations over. There most of our,
- 33:37Speaker 1: RECOMMENDATIONS i should, say because BEFORE i get to the
- 33:42Speaker 1: because speaking Of zeth In, Hollywoodland zeth does The Rap.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Party zeth does the archive episode of Hollywood land on
- 33:51Speaker 1: that week's, subject like for, instance this week it's It's
- 33:55Speaker 1: Brandon lee From The. Crow and then he comes in
- 33:59Speaker 1: with The Rap party bonus episode where he does sort
- 34:02Speaker 1: of expanded take and talks to you guys and get
- 34:05Speaker 1: to your feedback on that week's subject Again Brandon. Lee
- 34:10Speaker 1: and then at the end of the week he does
- 34:13Speaker 1: what's called the Screening room where he teas up a
- 34:17Speaker 1: movie that we're all going to be watching that weekend
- 34:20Speaker 1: and talking about when he comes back the following week
- 34:24Speaker 1: with the wrap. Party, okay so it's all kind of
- 34:26Speaker 1: strung together, there and this weekend we're all Watching The
- 34:29Speaker 1: crow With Brandon. Lee so there you. Go that's what's
- 34:32Speaker 1: happening over. There get into the Hollywood land feed on
- 34:35Speaker 1: The iHeart podcast, App apple Podcast. Spot if wherever you're
- 34:39Speaker 1: listening to, podcasts make sure you subscribe to Hollywood. Land
- 34:43Speaker 1: the recommendations are in part kind of low. Key the
- 34:48Speaker 1: THING i love talking, about you, know, music and film
- 34:53Speaker 1: together is kind of right up there music and crime,
- 34:56Speaker 1: obviously but rex you know what it's. Like you get,
- 34:58Speaker 1: out you see your, friends what are you? Watching what
- 35:00Speaker 1: do you listen? To?
- 35:00Speaker 2: Do you?
- 35:01Speaker 1: Know you can't wait to talk about? It And zeth
- 35:04Speaker 1: AND i are gonna start to do that with more
- 35:05Speaker 1: frequency over in the wrap, Party so make sure you're
- 35:07Speaker 1: subscribed To Hollywood.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Man.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Okay one of the Things i'm gonna start doing here
- 35:11Speaker 1: going forward in the after parties are these song. RECOMMENDATIONS
- 35:17Speaker 1: i have found that in this attention economy that we're living,
- 35:21Speaker 1: IN i often like it when somebody recommends a song
- 35:24Speaker 1: to me now rather than a new artist THAT i haven't.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Heard it's just so, overwhelming like where do you even?
- 35:31Speaker 1: Start you know WHAT i? Mean and everything's all messed
- 35:35Speaker 1: up now because if you go To, spotify you're not
- 35:37Speaker 1: gonna you're not gonna get introduced to an artist the
- 35:39Speaker 1: way that you got introduced to it as a. Kid you,
- 35:41Speaker 1: know you're gonna get like their most downloaded, whatever which
- 35:45Speaker 1: could be just because it was covered by, somebody you
- 35:48Speaker 1: know What i'm. Saying SO i like it when somebody
- 35:50Speaker 1: just recommends a song to. Me so that's been spinning
- 35:53Speaker 1: around in my brain. Lately the other thing that's been
- 35:56Speaker 1: spinning around in my brain lately is trying try to
- 36:00Speaker 1: not become a cliche old, guy middle aged, guy, whatever
- 36:06Speaker 1: guy who's just grumpy about new. Music at the same
- 36:11Speaker 1: TIME i am grumpy about new. Music you, know one
- 36:16Speaker 1: of the things about being a man is as you get,
- 36:19Speaker 1: older you have to fight the urge to sort of
- 36:23Speaker 1: calcify into this version of yourself that never. Changes you.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Know it's a.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Stereotype i'm, generalizing but men kind of they just kind
- 36:38Speaker 1: of get stuck in their ways more than women. DO
- 36:41Speaker 1: i have found, Anyways i've certainly found this with. Myself
- 36:45Speaker 1: it's one of those THINGS i don't like about. Myself you.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Know we get long, lives short, lives however you look at.
- 36:51Speaker 1: It we want them to be the best, lives the
- 36:53Speaker 1: most rich, lives the most robust. LIVES i know there's
- 36:57Speaker 1: great music being made and being released, constantly BUT i
- 37:01Speaker 1: do have real serious beef with modern. Music And i've
- 37:05Speaker 1: realized over the last couple of weeks my beef with
- 37:08Speaker 1: modern music is more about guitar based modern music rock and.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Roll first of, ALL i just can't stand the fact
- 37:17Speaker 1: that rock and, roll guitar based rock and, roll is
- 37:19Speaker 1: no longer part of popular. Culture it doesn't dominate or
- 37:22Speaker 1: lead popular culture the way that it did WHEN i
- 37:25Speaker 1: was growing, up AND i can't do anything about. That
- 37:28Speaker 1: on the same, Time i've realized that what's happened to
- 37:33Speaker 1: guitar music in the last two decades is this sort
- 37:37Speaker 1: of mass movement toward recording in the box and recording
- 37:42Speaker 1: with digital. Tools AND i don't mean just recording to
- 37:44Speaker 1: pro tools instead of. TAPE i mean using digital plugins
- 37:52Speaker 1: and apps as opposed to using outboard. Gear AND i
- 37:54Speaker 1: don't want to bore you with the technicality of it,
- 37:56Speaker 1: all BUT i can hear the, difference and it's a bum.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Out you, know WHEN i listen to Led, zeppelin that
- 38:01Speaker 1: shit fucking blasts comes to. LIFE i was talking about
- 38:05Speaker 1: this couple weeks, ago you, guys if a kid wanted
- 38:07Speaker 1: to hear the beg's and Like Stan alive came on
- 38:09Speaker 1: AND i was just, like oh my, god this is.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Glorious not to mention the fact that everything is compressed
- 38:16Speaker 1: by the time we hear, it you, know into ones
- 38:18Speaker 1: and zeros On spotify Or apple or wherever we're streaming our,
- 38:23Speaker 1: music even on the, radio which has always been. Compressed but,
- 38:27Speaker 1: anyhow modern rock music suffers the most from, this and
- 38:32Speaker 1: everybody's doing it basically barely anyone records to tape anymore
- 38:36Speaker 1: except huge artists because it's super, expensive And god bless
- 38:40Speaker 1: up and coming new. Artists what are they gonna. Do
- 38:42Speaker 1: they gotta find a way to get their music out.
- 38:43Speaker 1: There and that's just the economy we live. In that's
- 38:46Speaker 1: just how things are done, now that's where we're. At but,
- 38:50Speaker 1: again rock music suffers the most because we're used to
- 38:54Speaker 1: hearing rock music be, huge, punk, hardcore classic, rock all.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Shit we grew up. Loving you, know if that's what
- 39:02Speaker 1: you're trying to get at as a as a guitar
- 39:06Speaker 1: based band now and you're recording in the, box you're
- 39:10Speaker 1: kind of. Fucked you're never gonna get that. Bigness it's really,
- 39:14Speaker 1: difficult AND i don't like. It If i'm being, HONEST
- 39:18Speaker 1: i can hear it in a, SECOND i can spot
- 39:20Speaker 1: it a mile, away AND i don't like it Because
- 39:23Speaker 1: i'm Just i'm just just not What i'm used to.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Now on the other, hand when it comes to electronic,
- 39:28Speaker 1: music electronic based, music electronic based produced. MUSIC i don't
- 39:32Speaker 1: mean like you, know E. EDM i don't mean like craft,
- 39:34Speaker 1: work you, KNOW i mean LIKE r AND b hip
- 39:38Speaker 1: hop pop, music which for the last beyond two, decades
- 39:42Speaker 1: the last four, decades they've been using drum. Machines for
- 39:46Speaker 1: all the pop MUSIC i grew up with in the
- 39:47Speaker 1: eighties and nineties THAT i Love, madonna you, know all
- 39:50Speaker 1: that stuff was not reliant on big, guitars big sounding
- 39:54Speaker 1: guitars and big sounding. Drums and if there were big sounding,
- 39:57Speaker 1: drums again it was it was created. Artificial SO i
- 40:02Speaker 1: find myself now walking through the, world walking into a
- 40:06Speaker 1: restaurant or just walking down the street and hearing a
- 40:09Speaker 1: car drive by with the windows rolled. Down and more
- 40:12Speaker 1: often than, not WHEN i hear things now AND i, go,
- 40:14Speaker 1: oh what's that that's, interesting it's often always pop, music
- 40:18Speaker 1: top forty, music and it's not guitar. Based And i'm,
- 40:22Speaker 1: finally for the first time in a long, time allowing
- 40:26Speaker 1: myself to be curious about this and, go wait a,
- 40:30Speaker 1: minute wait a, minute wait a, minute, wait what is?
- 40:32Speaker 1: THIS i kind of like? This why DO i like?
- 40:36Speaker 3: This?
- 40:36Speaker 1: OH i like this because this is fucking. Awesome it
- 40:39Speaker 1: doesn't matter that they made it a year ago or
- 40:41Speaker 1: two months ago or three years or. Whatever it doesn't
- 40:44Speaker 1: matter that it's pop. Music it doesn't matter that IT'S
- 40:48Speaker 1: r AND. B it doesn't matter to me because in
- 40:50Speaker 1: the SEVENTIES i love The Beach, boys because in the
- 40:52Speaker 1: EIGHTIES i Love. Madonna because in the NINETIES i loved
- 40:54Speaker 1: En vogue And shade And. SEAL i didn't KNOW i
- 40:58Speaker 1: Love seal until, recently BUT i love you know WHAT i.
- 40:59Speaker 1: MEAN i loved that. STUFF i wasn't actively seeking it.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Out it was just, there and now WHEN i hear,
- 41:05Speaker 1: IT i love. It So i'm not going to deprive
- 41:08Speaker 1: myself of modern music just because modern guitar music is
- 41:12Speaker 1: in a rut right. Now, now the good news, IS
- 41:14Speaker 1: i think modern guitar music is going to come. BACK
- 41:17Speaker 1: i really truly. DO i think the way it's recorded
- 41:20Speaker 1: is going to. Change you. Can't you, know when you
- 41:23Speaker 1: record with all of these you, know, electronic LIKE i,
- 41:26Speaker 1: said outboard gear and plugins and everything is in the,
- 41:30Speaker 1: box everything sounds the. Same and musicians are going to
- 41:34Speaker 1: get wise to that because listeners are going to get
- 41:37Speaker 1: wise to, that and they're going to stop. Listening and
- 41:39Speaker 1: then we're going to go back to this sort of
- 41:42Speaker 1: one hundred and eighty degrees back to recording in big
- 41:46Speaker 1: rooms in big. Studios how we're going to do, THAT
- 41:48Speaker 1: i don't, know but it'll, happen trust. Me so all
- 41:51Speaker 1: of that is a long way to say That i'm
- 41:55Speaker 1: gonna start. Recommending i'm gonna do this thing with you
- 41:57Speaker 1: guys every week called new, song old. Song, Okay i'm
- 41:59Speaker 1: gonna recommend one new song That i'm, into and you

- 42:04Speaker 1: can recommend whatever new song or old song you wanna recommend.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Me i'm gonna recommend one old song okay as. Well,

- 42:12Speaker 1: them and These i'm trying to pick songs Where i'm
- 42:15Speaker 1: trying to maintain this, vibe the spirit of like you

- 42:21Speaker 1: it just not only owns your, day it owns your.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Week you're, like, fuck, yeah, man where's that? Song you
- 42:26Speaker 1: grab your? FOOT i gotta hear that, song you know
- 42:28Speaker 1: WHAT i. Mean that's What i'm going for. Here so
- 42:30Speaker 1: we're gonna do the new song, first because that's gonna
- 42:33Speaker 1: be harder for. Me and then we're gonna do the old,
- 42:35Speaker 1: song because that's gonna be easier for. Me you're gonna
- 42:36Speaker 1: do the hard things first in. Life new. Song ever
- 42:39Speaker 1: since you left, ME i went Deaf French. MONTANA i
