- 0:02Speaker 1: Life Audio. Hello and good morning, faithful listeners, and welcome
- 0:06Speaker 1: to the Bible Explained Podcasts on this lovely Thursday morning. Okay,
- 0:16Speaker 1: faithful listeners, before we begin today's episode, you guys know
- 0:20Speaker 1: the drill. Here's a word from one of our advertisers,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and after you listen to this, we will jump into
- 0:25Speaker 1: Hebrews eight the entire chapter. Okay, we're gonna be reading
- 0:30Speaker 1: the entirety of Hebrews eight today, and this chapter is
- 0:33Speaker 1: talking about the obsolete Old Testament law and how we
- 0:38Speaker 1: cannot gain righteousness through the Old Testament laws. We need
- 0:42Speaker 1: a new covenant, a new promise. We're all gonna be
- 0:44Speaker 1: talking about actually how the Old Testament law promises things
- 0:48Speaker 1: that are not nearly as good as the New Covenant,
- 0:51Speaker 1: which is interesting because the Old Testament promises were prosperity essentially.
- 0:56Speaker 1: So let's read Hebrews eight the entire thing together. Now.
- 1:02Speaker 1: In the things which we are saying, the main point
- 1:04Speaker 1: is this, we have such a high priest who sat
- 1:07Speaker 1: down on the right hand of the throne of the
- 1:09Speaker 1: Majesty in the heavens, a servant of the sanctuary and
- 1:12Speaker 1: of the true Tabernacle, which the Lord pitched not man.
- 1:16Speaker 1: For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts
- 1:18Speaker 1: and sacrifices. Therefore, it is necessary that this high priest
- 1:22Speaker 1: also have something to offer, for if he were on earth,
- 1:25Speaker 1: he would not be a high priest at all, Seeing
- 1:27Speaker 1: that there are priests who offer the gifts according to
- 1:29Speaker 1: the law, who serve a copy and a shadow of
- 1:32Speaker 1: the heavenly things. Even as Moses was warned by God
- 1:35Speaker 1: when he was about to make the tabernacle, for he said, see,
- 1:38Speaker 1: you shall make everything according to the pattern that was
- 1:40Speaker 1: shown to you on the mountain. But now he has
- 1:43Speaker 1: obtained a more excellent ministry by as much as he
- 1:46Speaker 1: is also the mediator of a better covenant, which on
- 1:49Speaker 1: better promises has been given as law. For if that
- 1:52Speaker 1: first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have
- 1:55Speaker 1: been sought for a second. For finding fault with them,
- 1:57Speaker 1: he said, Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord,
- 2:01Speaker 1: that I will make a new covenant with the House
- 2:03Speaker 1: of Israel and with the House of Judah, not according
- 2:06Speaker 1: to the covenant that I made with their fathers in
- 2:08Speaker 1: the day that I took them by the hand to
- 2:09Speaker 1: lead them out of the land of Egypt. For they
- 2:12Speaker 1: didn't continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them, says
- 2:15Speaker 1: the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will
- 2:17Speaker 1: make with the House of Israel. After those days, says
- 2:19Speaker 1: the Lord, I will put my laws into their mind,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and I will write them on their heart. I will
- 2:24Speaker 1: be their God, and they will be my people. They
- 2:27Speaker 1: will not teach every man his fellow citizen, and every
- 2:29Speaker 1: man his brother, saying know the Lord, for all will
- 2:32Speaker 1: know me, from their least to their greatest. For I
- 2:35Speaker 1: will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and I will remember
- 2:38Speaker 1: their sins and lawless deeds no more. In that, he says,
- 2:42Speaker 1: a new covenant. He has made the first obsolete, But
- 2:45Speaker 1: that which is becoming obsolete and grows aged, is near
- 2:49Speaker 1: to vanishing away. Since last week, we have been talking
- 2:53Speaker 1: about how Jesus is our high priest and how he
- 2:57Speaker 1: has completely changed the order of the priest hood that
- 3:00Speaker 1: is found in the Old Testament, and he has brought
- 3:02Speaker 1: forth a brand new kind of priesthood that we are
- 3:05Speaker 1: all a part of. Jesus being our high priest and
- 3:09Speaker 1: our mediator, the person that we can go to when
- 3:12Speaker 1: we sin. So, starting in verse one of Hebrews eight,
- 3:15Speaker 1: now in the things which we are saying. The main
- 3:18Speaker 1: point is this we have such a high priest who
- 3:21Speaker 1: sat down on the right hand of the throne of
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Majesty in the heavens. So that is another reason
- 3:27Speaker 1: how Jesus's high priesthood is very different than the high
- 3:31Speaker 1: priests found in the Old Testament. You might remember when
- 3:35Speaker 1: we went through all of the temple furniture back in
- 3:37Speaker 1: Exodus twenty five. You know, everything that Moses had to
- 3:40Speaker 1: make for the tabernacle in the wilderness. There was a table,
- 3:44Speaker 1: there were lamps, stands, there was an altar, there was
- 3:48Speaker 1: basins and all this other stuff. But the one thing
- 3:51Speaker 1: you wouldn't find in the Temple to God were chairs.
- 3:56Speaker 1: The priests weren't supposed to be sitting down on the jobs.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Symbolized that the priests were never finished with their work
- 4:03Speaker 1: of being a priest. They had to constantly be moving around.
- 4:07Speaker 1: They had to constantly be burning the incense, praying to God,
- 4:12Speaker 1: offering the sacrifices, making sure the fire didn't go out,
- 4:16Speaker 1: cleaning the temple, eating the show bread, just doing everything
- 4:19Speaker 1: that the priests were required to do. But Jesus here
- 4:22Speaker 1: it actually says that we have a high priest who
- 4:26Speaker 1: is sitting down at the right hand of the throne
- 4:28Speaker 1: of the Majesty in the heavens, unlike those priests found
- 4:32Speaker 1: in the Old Testament who are always on the job.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Jesus is done with his job. That is what he
- 4:38Speaker 1: set up on the cross. It is finished. And when
- 4:42Speaker 1: he ascended up to heaven it says he sat down
- 4:45Speaker 1: on the right hand of God. He is sitting down,
- 4:49Speaker 1: which symbolizes that his job is done. I actually heard
- 4:54Speaker 1: a song recently. It was a very bad song where
- 4:56Speaker 1: the premise was essentially, yeah, God, I know that everything
- 5:00Speaker 1: is finished, but if you had to, you'd come right
- 5:03Speaker 1: back down and reoffer yourself for me over and over
- 5:06Speaker 1: and over again. And I get kind of what he's
- 5:09Speaker 1: trying to say. You know, it's suposed to be like
- 5:10Speaker 1: a really encouraging song about God's love, but I actually
- 5:13Speaker 1: felt that it was really downplaying the initial love that
- 5:18Speaker 1: Jesus showed us when he came down to Earth the
- 5:20Speaker 1: first time. That it was the most loving thing that
- 5:24Speaker 1: he could have ever done, and instead of being unthankful
- 5:26Speaker 1: for that, we should be showing great thanks for the
- 5:29Speaker 1: fact that he did it in the first place, and
- 5:32Speaker 1: that his job is finished, so that he can sit
- 5:35Speaker 1: down in the heavens and wait until he comes back again.
- 5:40Speaker 1: It says in verse two that Jesus is a servant
- 5:42Speaker 1: of the sanctuary and of the true Tabernacle, which the
- 5:45Speaker 1: Lord pitched, not man. So that alludes to the idea
- 5:49Speaker 1: that there is actually a temple in heaven. I think
- 5:52Speaker 1: that's kind of interesting. I never picked up on that before.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Jesus is a servant of the sanctuary and of the
- 5:59Speaker 1: true Tabernacle which the Lord pitched. Now, this could also
- 6:02Speaker 1: be talking about the Church. You know, in general, we
- 6:05Speaker 1: are the body of Christ. We are considered to be
- 6:08Speaker 1: the new Tabernacle where the Holy Spirit resides. But to me,
- 6:12Speaker 1: this sort of sounds like there is also a tabernacle
- 6:16Speaker 1: in heaven. And the author goes on to explain this
- 6:19Speaker 1: a little bit more in depth in verse four. But
- 6:22Speaker 1: verse three says, for every high priest is appointed to
- 6:25Speaker 1: offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore, it is necessary that
- 6:28Speaker 1: this high priest also have something to offer. Yes, so Jesus,
- 6:33Speaker 1: being our high priest, obviously offered a sacrifice, the sacrifice
- 6:38Speaker 1: being himself. But unlike the priests of the Old Testament
- 6:43Speaker 1: days Hebrew seven talks about how Jesus does not have
- 6:46Speaker 1: to keep offering a sacrifice over and over and over again.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Just a couple verses before this, in Hebrew seven twenty
- 6:54Speaker 1: six through twenty eight, here's what this says. For such
- 6:57Speaker 1: a high priest was fitting for us, holy, guiltless, undefiled,
- 7:01Speaker 1: separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens. Who
- 7:04Speaker 1: doesn't need, like those high priests to offer up sacrifices daily,
- 7:10Speaker 1: first for his own sins and then for the sins
- 7:12Speaker 1: of the people. For he did this once for all
- 7:15Speaker 1: when he offered up himself. So Jesus is done. Unlike
- 7:19Speaker 1: those high priests in the Old Testament, he does not
- 7:22Speaker 1: have to keep offering the same sacrifice over and over
- 7:25Speaker 1: and over again. It is done. He's sitting down at
- 7:29Speaker 1: the Father's right hand. His work is finished. And that's
- 7:33Speaker 1: another reason how Jesus's priesthood is very different than the
- 7:38Speaker 1: earthly priesthood. Firstly, he's done with his work. Secondly, he
- 7:42Speaker 1: doesn't have to keep offering sacrifices all the time anymore,
- 7:47Speaker 1: because he's perfect. He offered one sacrifice and that was enough.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Then Verse four if Hebrews eight says this, for if
- 7:54Speaker 1: he were on earth, he would not have been priest
- 7:56Speaker 1: at all. And I find that verse kind of funny
- 8:00Speaker 1: because it's sort of ironic to think that Jesus, being
- 8:04Speaker 1: God in human flesh, would not have been able to
- 8:07Speaker 1: be the high priest here on earth for multiple reasons,
- 8:12Speaker 1: the main reason being that he was not from the
- 8:15Speaker 1: tribe of Levi. But I'm sure that even if he
- 8:18Speaker 1: were from the tribe of Levi, the priest would have
- 8:20Speaker 1: rejected him because he was unschooled. He didn't go along
- 8:25Speaker 1: with their thought processes. He didn't he didn't teach tradition
- 8:29Speaker 1: as being law like the priests did, so he would
- 8:32Speaker 1: have been rejected either way even if he was a Levite.
- 8:35Speaker 1: But even so, it's funny to think that the God
- 8:39Speaker 1: of the universe was rejected from being high priest while
- 8:43Speaker 1: he was on earth. It says he would not have
- 8:45Speaker 1: been priests at all, seeing that there are priests who
- 8:47Speaker 1: offer the gifts according to the law, who serve a
- 8:50Speaker 1: copy and a shadow of the heavenly things. Even as
- 8:54Speaker 1: Moses was warned by God when he was about to
- 8:56Speaker 1: make the Tabernacle, for he said, see, you shall make
- 8:59Speaker 1: everything according to the past, that was shown to you
- 9:01Speaker 1: on the mountain. So the other finishes that thought by
- 9:04Speaker 1: saying Jesus didn't want to be part of the earthly
- 9:07Speaker 1: priesthood anyway, because quite honestly, it wasn't good enough for him.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Anything we do here on earth is not going to
- 9:14Speaker 1: be nearly as as beautiful as what's up in heaven.
- 9:19Speaker 1: It actually says right here that the religious things we
- 9:22Speaker 1: do here on earth are a copy and a shadow
- 9:24Speaker 1: of the heavenly things. And this is all relating to
- 9:28Speaker 1: the priesthood. You know, the tabernacle in the Old Testament,
- 9:32Speaker 1: it was just a shadow, a copy of what was
- 9:35Speaker 1: in heaven. The temple, same deal, it was a copy
- 9:38Speaker 1: and a shadow. It might have been a beautiful copy,
- 9:41Speaker 1: but you can't even imagine how much better the real
- 9:45Speaker 1: thing is up in heaven. And then the author goes
- 9:48Speaker 1: on to explain how apparently there is a tabernacle or
- 9:53Speaker 1: a temple in heaven that Moses was shown. It says
- 9:57Speaker 1: right here Moses was warned by God in verse five
- 10:02Speaker 1: when he was about to make the tabernacle, for God said, see,
- 10:06Speaker 1: you shall make everything according to the pattern that was
- 10:08Speaker 1: shown to you on the mountain. And that's talked about
- 10:11Speaker 1: in Exodus twenty five at the very very end verse forty. Now,
- 10:16Speaker 1: that is when Moses was up on the mountain visiting
- 10:19Speaker 1: with God. Apparently at some point in time God showed
- 10:23Speaker 1: Moses a heavenly picture of the tabernacle. And when God
- 10:28Speaker 1: gave Moses the plans for the earthly tabernacle, he told
- 10:33Speaker 1: him specifically, he warned him to make everything according to
- 10:37Speaker 1: the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.
- 10:40Speaker 1: So this sounds to me at least, that there is
- 10:42Speaker 1: some sort of tabernacle or temple up in heaven. And
- 10:46Speaker 1: maybe that is the place where God himself resides. I
- 10:49Speaker 1: don't know, But whatever it is, that was where Jesus
- 10:52Speaker 1: was supposed to be our high priest, not here on
- 10:55Speaker 1: earth with the copy and the shadow of the things
- 10:58Speaker 1: that are in heaven, but with the actual real thing
- 11:03Speaker 1: that is in heaven. That's where Jesus belongs, not here
- 11:07Speaker 1: on earth. So basically, even though Jesus was not qualified
- 11:11Speaker 1: to be our high priest on earth, it didn't matter
- 11:14Speaker 1: because it wasn't good enough for him anyway. He deserved
- 11:18Speaker 1: something so much better. And then in verse six, but
- 11:22Speaker 1: now he has obtained a more excellent ministry by as
- 11:25Speaker 1: much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which,
- 11:29Speaker 1: on better promises, has been given as law. So Jesus
- 11:34Speaker 1: has a more excellent ministry up in heaven than anything
- 11:40Speaker 1: down here on earth. And he is also the mediator
- 11:43Speaker 1: of a better covenant, which on better promises has been
- 11:48Speaker 1: given as law. So the Old Testament laws, they were good,
- 11:53Speaker 1: they were necessary for the people at the time. But
- 11:56Speaker 1: those who become obsolete, which is actually what it says
- 11:59Speaker 1: right here in verse thirty. And we'll get down there
- 12:01Speaker 1: in a second. This new covenant that Jesus has given
- 12:04Speaker 1: us is so much better than the old covenant, and
- 12:09Speaker 1: it includes better promises. Now this might be kind of
- 12:13Speaker 1: shocking to some people, because you know, a lot of
- 12:16Speaker 1: people read the Old Testament and they're like, man, why
- 12:19Speaker 1: doesn't God bless us with lots of stuff like he
- 12:21Speaker 1: did back in the old days, Because remember what were
- 12:24Speaker 1: the promises to the people in the Old Testament. Follow
- 12:26Speaker 1: these laws and God will bless you with a good harvest,
- 12:30Speaker 1: with prosperity, with children, with healthy families, and health for yourself.
- 12:36Speaker 1: You know, people look at the Old Testament, they're like, man,
- 12:38Speaker 1: those things sound really good. I want to be blessed
- 12:41Speaker 1: in my life. But it says right here in Hebrews
- 12:44Speaker 1: that the blessings offered in the New Covenant are so
- 12:48Speaker 1: much better than the blessings offered in the Old Covenant.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Remember that story when Jesus met the man who is crippled,
- 12:58Speaker 1: and they lowered him down through the room so that
- 13:00Speaker 1: he could get to Jesus. Because there was such a
- 13:02Speaker 1: huge crowd around Jesus at this point, what did Jesus
- 13:07Speaker 1: say to that man? He did not say, you are healed,
- 13:11Speaker 1: get up and walk. Well, he did eventually, but the
- 13:13Speaker 1: first thing that he said to that man, your sins
- 13:16Speaker 1: are forgiven, because that was the better promise that these
- 13:21Speaker 1: man's sins were forgiven. Because our status here on Earth
- 13:27Speaker 1: and what we're going through right now, it's temporary. Yes,
- 13:30Speaker 1: it's no fun when we have to go through trials,
- 13:33Speaker 1: when we have to deal with problems and sickness and
- 13:36Speaker 1: death and misery. We hate these things because they're awful.
- 13:41Speaker 1: But the most important thing we could receive is salvation,
- 13:46Speaker 1: because that's for eternity. The earth is temporary and it's
- 13:50Speaker 1: going away. Our lives are temporary. They're flying by. So
- 13:55Speaker 1: the good things that we experience here and now they're good,
- 13:59Speaker 1: but they're going they're not going to last forever. And
- 14:02Speaker 1: that is why Jesus got to the heart of the
- 14:04Speaker 1: issue when he saw that crippled man and he said,
- 14:07Speaker 1: your sins are forgiven you before he did anything else
- 14:10Speaker 1: for that man, because that was the most important thing,
- 14:12Speaker 1: that man's salvation. And that is why the author of
- 14:16Speaker 1: Hebrews says that the promise is offered with the New Covenant,
- 14:20Speaker 1: which is salvation and the fruits of the Spirit, and
- 14:25Speaker 1: the Family of Christ. All of these promises are so
- 14:29Speaker 1: much better than the temporary prosperity offered in the Old Testament.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And on top of that, look at the people in
- 14:36Speaker 1: the days of the Old Covenant. They couldn't even achieve
- 14:40Speaker 1: the blessings from God because they couldn't keep the Old
- 14:44Speaker 1: Testament laws. As one says right here in verse seven,
- 14:47Speaker 1: For if that first Covenant had been found faultless, then
- 14:51Speaker 1: no place would have been sought for a second. Now
- 14:54Speaker 1: we know that God's law is good. Everything he said
- 14:58Speaker 1: in the Old Testament, it's good, good, and it's how
- 15:01Speaker 1: people can achieve righteousness essentially. But because people are imperfect,
- 15:07Speaker 1: they couldn't achieve righteousness by following the law. So God
- 15:11Speaker 1: promised a brand new covenant in Jeremiah thirty one, which
- 15:16Speaker 1: is what the author quotes right here, starting in verse eight.
- 15:19Speaker 1: For finding fault with them, he said, behold, the days
- 15:23Speaker 1: are coming, says the Lord, that I will make a
- 15:26Speaker 1: new covenant with the House of Israel and with the
- 15:29Speaker 1: House of Judah. Not according to the covenant that I
- 15:32Speaker 1: made with their fathers in the day that I took
- 15:34Speaker 1: them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt.
- 15:36Speaker 1: For they didn't continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them,
- 15:40Speaker 1: says the Lord. So all of that is the author
- 15:44Speaker 1: quoting a promise that was given to the prophet Jeremiah.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I am going to make a new covenant with my people,
- 15:51Speaker 1: with the House of Israel and with the House of Judah.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Now we know what this new covenant is because Jesus
- 15:58Speaker 1: made it already. It's been made. We are currently living
- 16:02Speaker 1: under the new covenant. And I want to point something
- 16:04Speaker 1: out right here. It says in verse nine that I
- 16:06Speaker 1: will make a covenant with the House of Israel and
- 16:09Speaker 1: with the House of Judah. Now, if you're reading this
- 16:12Speaker 1: at face value, you would think that God is only
- 16:15Speaker 1: promising this new covenant to the Jews, but we know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: based upon other parts of scripture, that gentiles or non
- 16:24Speaker 1: Jews are also included in this new covenant, and anybody
- 16:28Speaker 1: can partake of this new covenant. And Paul explains this
- 16:33Speaker 1: a little bit more clearly when he mentions that anybody
- 16:36Speaker 1: who follows God has become a child of Abraham. Essentially,
- 16:42Speaker 1: only the Jews believe that they were children of Abraham,
- 16:46Speaker 1: and by a physical standpoint, that is absolutely true. Their
- 16:50Speaker 1: ancestor is Abraham. But in a spiritual aspect, only the
- 16:54Speaker 1: people who believe in God are actually the children of Abraham.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Nothing to do with bloodlines or ancestry. It has everything
- 17:04Speaker 1: to do with your heart. So spiritually, anybody who believes
- 17:07Speaker 1: in Jesus, you and I, we are part of the
- 17:10Speaker 1: House of Israel and part of the House of Judah.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Anybody can partake of that covenant, whether Jew or Gentile.
- 17:19Speaker 1: So I believe that God is speaking in a spiritual
- 17:22Speaker 1: kind of sense right here where he says, I will
- 17:24Speaker 1: make a new covenant with the House of Israel and
- 17:27Speaker 1: with the House of Judah, not according to the covenant
- 17:30Speaker 1: that I made with their fathers in the day that
- 17:32Speaker 1: I took them by the hand to lead them out
- 17:33Speaker 1: of Egypt, for they didn't continue in my covenant, and
- 17:36Speaker 1: I disregarded them, says the Lord verse ten. For this
- 17:39Speaker 1: is the covenant that I will make with the House
- 17:41Speaker 1: of Israel. After those days, I will put my laws
- 17:44Speaker 1: into their mind. I will write them on their heart.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I will be their God, and they will be my people.
- 17:52Speaker 1: They will not teach every man his fellow citizen and
- 17:55Speaker 1: every man his brother, saying no, the Lord, for all
- 17:57Speaker 1: will know me from their least to their greatest. For
- 18:00Speaker 1: I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and I will
- 18:02Speaker 1: remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more. So.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I believe that God is speaking of a time to
- 18:09Speaker 1: come where Jesus is going to be revealed to the
- 18:12Speaker 1: entire earth. And some of you who are new on
- 18:15Speaker 1: this podcast might be thinking that all of this sounds
- 18:17Speaker 1: really crazy, and I could see how you would think
- 18:20Speaker 1: that's the case. But if Jesus came to earth once,
- 18:23Speaker 1: and I believe that he did, and I think that
- 18:26Speaker 1: there's way too much historical evidence to prove otherwise, Jesus
- 18:30Speaker 1: was in fact a real man, and I believe that
- 18:33Speaker 1: he was God. C. S. Lewis makes a really good
- 18:36Speaker 1: point about all of this. He says that Jesus can't
- 18:40Speaker 1: just be a good man or a great prophet or
- 18:45Speaker 1: something like that. He's either a really good liar, which
- 18:48Speaker 1: doesn't make him a good man. He's either insane, which
- 18:52Speaker 1: doesn't make him a good prophet, or he is God.
- 18:56Speaker 1: There is no in between. So either Jesus is crazy,
- 19:00Speaker 1: he's a liar, or he's God. And I believe that
- 19:03Speaker 1: he's God. I think there's too much evidence to prove otherwise.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And so Jesus, who factually existed, if he is God,
- 19:12Speaker 1: then he can absolutely come back again. And he is
- 19:16Speaker 1: I believe going to come back again. I believe wholeheartedly
- 19:20Speaker 1: that the scriptures are true that Jesus is going to
- 19:23Speaker 1: come back again. So when Jesus does in fact return
- 19:27Speaker 1: to his people, all of this stuff from verses ten
- 19:31Speaker 1: through twelve is going to come to fruition. Basically, every
- 19:35Speaker 1: man is going to know Jesus. We don't even have
- 19:38Speaker 1: to evangelize anymore, is what it says right here. Nobody's
- 19:41Speaker 1: going to have to tell their brother saying you should
- 19:43Speaker 1: know the Lord, for all will know me from the
- 19:46Speaker 1: least to the Greatest. I will be merciful to their unrighteousness,
- 19:50Speaker 1: and I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more.
- 19:55Speaker 1: That's what's going to happen when Jesus finally comes back,
- 19:58Speaker 1: is revealed to the earth and reigns forever. God is
- 20:02Speaker 1: going to forget all of our sins and we're not
- 20:06Speaker 1: going to sin anymore. We're going to be in perfection
- 20:09Speaker 1: with Jesus at that point. But only for those who
- 20:11Speaker 1: believe in Jesus as their savior. Because when Jesus comes
- 20:15Speaker 1: back to earth the second time, he's coming as the
- 20:18Speaker 1: Great Judge. The first time he came to earth, he
- 20:23Speaker 1: came as the Savior. Next time he's coming as the Judge.
- 20:26Speaker 1: We want to meet him believing that he was our savior,
- 20:30Speaker 1: not meeting him as the Great Judge. So this is
- 20:32Speaker 1: very important. That's why a couple chapters ago, the author
- 20:36Speaker 1: tells us, he says, do this today, you know, turn
- 20:40Speaker 1: your hearts to God today, because you don't know if
- 20:43Speaker 1: there's going to be a tomorrow. You don't know. Do
- 20:46Speaker 1: it right now, turn your heart to God now. So,
- 20:52Speaker 1: faithful listeners, I'm going to jump to an ad break
- 20:55Speaker 1: from one of our sponsors real quick, and after that
- 20:58Speaker 1: I will conclude today's episode by talking about the last
- 21:01Speaker 1: verse right here to conclude in Hebrews eight, verse thirteen,
- 21:07Speaker 1: in that he says a new covenant he has made
- 21:09Speaker 1: the first obsolete, but that which is becoming obsolete and
- 21:12Speaker 1: grows aged is near to vanishing away. The Old Testament
- 21:18Speaker 1: laws are still there. They're not obsolete yet. They're not
- 21:20Speaker 1: going to fully vanish away until Jesus comes again the
- 21:24Speaker 1: second time. I believe. In Matthew chapter five, the Sermon
- 21:27Speaker 1: on the Mountain, Jesus mentioned that he wasn't going to
- 21:30Speaker 1: take away any bit of the Old Testament law, not
- 21:33Speaker 1: yet anyway, but he will when he comes back again.
- 21:37Speaker 1: That is when the law will be completely obsolete. It says,
- 21:41Speaker 1: the law is growing aged and near to vanishing away,
- 21:45Speaker 1: which is why we shouldn't be focusing on righteousness from
- 21:49Speaker 1: the Old Testament laws, because again, we can't keep the
- 21:52Speaker 1: Old Testament laws. We cannot become righteous through keeping the
- 21:56Speaker 1: Old Testament laws. We are imperfect human beings. And since
- 21:59Speaker 1: we can't gain righteousness from the Old Testament, then we
- 22:02Speaker 1: have to gain righteousness by following the New Testament, the
- 22:06Speaker 1: New Covenant, the new promise that Jesus has made for us. So,
- 22:10Speaker 1: faithful listeners, I hope you enjoyed today's episode, and if
