Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Don't litigate over how much you have a right to
- 0:03Speaker 1: have what I got, because until you suffered what I suffered,
- 0:10Speaker 1: floated through what I floated through, survived what I survived.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Don't be frustrated because some princess pulled me out the
- 0:19Speaker 1: water and put me in the palace. If you weren't
- 0:22Speaker 1: going to float down with the alligators, then don't complain
- 0:25Speaker 1: about me eating in the palace. God bless you, my friends.
- 0:36Speaker 1: We are together again and we're excited about it. We've
- 0:39Speaker 1: been sharing a series that is blessing God's people. The
- 0:43Speaker 1: series is The Verge. The message today is don't let
- 0:47Speaker 1: the chatter stop you. I cannot tell you how many
- 0:50Speaker 1: people tweeted me at Bishop Jakes to tell me This
- 0:54Speaker 1: message blessed them in a powerful way when I preached
- 0:57Speaker 1: it because so many people are distracted by the chatter
- 1:00Speaker 1: around them to the point that they cannot focus on
- 1:03Speaker 1: the goal before them. The message, don't let the chatter
- 1:07Speaker 1: stop you. Maybe what you need to get your focus back.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Check it out.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Now Moses is a grown man. We're seeing him close
- 1:20Speaker 1: to 40 years old. He's a grown man. He's blessed.
- 1:25Speaker 1: He got things he wouldn't have gotten any other way.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Education by the Egyptians. The Egyptian culture we are still studying.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Their advancement in technology is still intimidating even to modern
- 1:40Speaker 1: scientists today. Their architectural abilities have caused people to travel
- 1:45Speaker 1: for miles to study the pyramids. Moses was exposed to
- 1:49Speaker 1: that in a way he would have never been exposed
- 1:52Speaker 1: had he not gone through the adversity in his house.
- 1:54Speaker 1: He would have never been exposed to the opportunity, adversity, opportunity, adversity, opportunity, adversity, opportunity.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Every time he had an adversity, he had an opportunity.
- 2:04Speaker 1: He's 40 years old and he's got the opportunities that
- 2:07Speaker 1: people would kill for. Got the opportunities that other people
- 2:11Speaker 1: would have died for. Got to go places and do
- 2:14Speaker 1: things and understand things that had he stayed in the
- 2:17Speaker 1: house he started in, he would have never gotten. All
- 2:20Speaker 1: he would have known how to do was make bricks
- 2:22Speaker 1: without straw. But God pulled him out. And sometimes when
- 2:28Speaker 1: God pulls you out of your natural environment, it's painful.
- 2:33Speaker 1: You suffer a lot. But he didn't pull you out
- 2:36Speaker 1: to kill you. He pulled you out to bless you.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Now he's near 40 years old and he's blessed.
- 2:46Speaker 2: He's blessed. He's educated.
- 2:48Speaker 1: He's articulate. He's intelligent. He's bilingual. He's blessed. But he's confused.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You can be blessed and still be confused. He's all
- 3:08Speaker 1: dressed up.
- 3:11Speaker 2: And confused.
- 3:13Speaker 1: He's a grown man with little boy issues. Struggling and
- 3:20Speaker 1: suffering on the inside and walking around in all of
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Egyptian capes and all dressed up like he's a prince.
- 3:28Speaker 1: He looks like a prince, but he's not. He's a
- 3:33Speaker 1: Hebrew by blood, but he's not. He's neither Egyptian nor Hebrew.
- 3:38Speaker 1: He's stuck in the middle and he looks out the
- 3:42Speaker 1: window and he sees two men fighting. A Hebrew and
- 3:47Speaker 1: an Egyptian fighting. What he sees on the outside is
- 3:51Speaker 1: a reflection of what's going on on the inside.
- 3:56Speaker 2: If I say nothing else this morning, I have said
- 4:00Speaker 2: it all.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Because if you can grasp what I just said, then
- 4:06Speaker 1: you realize that what you see on the outside is
- 4:10Speaker 1: a reflection of what is going on on the inside.
- 4:18Speaker 1: What you see on the outside. I wish I had
- 4:20Speaker 1: time to really work that. I was sitting with a
- 4:22Speaker 1: bunch of psychologists and they were counseling a woman that
- 4:25Speaker 1: was saying that she'd been contemplating suicide. And the psychologist said, oh, no, no,
- 4:30Speaker 1: she's not going to commit suicide. I said how can
- 4:32Speaker 1: you say that with such absoluteness they said her hair
- 4:35Speaker 1: is combed she brushed her teeth her clothes are pressed
- 4:47Speaker 1: what you see on the outside is a reflection of
- 4:54Speaker 1: what's going on on the inside do you hear what
- 5:01Speaker 1: I'm saying there's fighting on the outside because it's fighting
- 5:10Speaker 1: on the inside i'm gonna drill into that a little
- 5:13Speaker 1: bit interesting point in 35 years of counseling people i've
- 5:19Speaker 1: counseled all kinds of angry men i've counseled men who
- 5:23Speaker 1: beat their wives i mean beat them beat them mercilessly
- 5:25Speaker 1: hit them in the head with skillets and wrenches and
- 5:29Speaker 1: stuff like that, threw hot oil on them, all kinds
- 5:31Speaker 1: of stuff. But I never saw a man who beat
- 5:35Speaker 1: his wife and liked himself. What you see on the
- 5:42Speaker 1: outside is a reflection of the conflict.
- 5:47Speaker 2: On the inside. I could go home now.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Because if you did that thought justice, you could spend
- 5:54Speaker 1: the next 24 hours Going through your life, saying what
- 5:59Speaker 1: do you see? Going through the trunk of your car,
- 6:03Speaker 1: through your garage, through your house, what you see on
- 6:06Speaker 1: the outside is a reflection of what's going on on
- 6:09Speaker 1: the inside. If you're happy to live in clutter, I'm
- 6:14Speaker 1: not going to bother you. I'm not going to bother you.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Now we all have to live in it, but if
- 6:22Speaker 1: you're happy to live in clutter, if you're comfortable and
- 6:25Speaker 1: it doesn't bother you, maybe it doesn't bother you because
- 6:27Speaker 1: what you see, he sees the fighting on the outside.
- 6:37Speaker 1: It's a reflection of the fight on the inside. He
- 6:40Speaker 1: raises his hand to stop it. He's trying to stop
- 6:45Speaker 1: it in them so he can stop it in him.
- 6:49Speaker 1: The fight on the outside forced him to confront the
- 6:54Speaker 1: conflict on the inside. All of a sudden, he's been
- 6:57Speaker 1: conflicted for 40 years, but some circumstances arose in his
- 7:02Speaker 1: life that brought to the surface the inner conflict that
- 7:06Speaker 1: he has in his soul. And he rises up because now,
- 7:10Speaker 1: faced with a Hebrew and an Egyptian fighting, he now
- 7:13Speaker 1: has to choose whose side are you on. 40 years
- 7:21Speaker 1: have not demanded that he make a choice. But one
- 7:25Speaker 1: incident has pushed his emotions to the surface. Do you
- 7:30Speaker 1: choose your conditioning or your pedigree? Now he chooses his background,
- 7:40Speaker 1: his heritage. And he kills an Egyptian. Kills an Egyptian.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And buries him in the sand. Looking to the left
- 7:53Speaker 1: or the right, he sees nobody and buries it in
- 7:57Speaker 1: the sand. 24 hours later, what he sees on the
- 8:04Speaker 1: outside is totally different from what he saw yesterday. He
- 8:08Speaker 1: does not see an Egyptian and a Hebrew fighting because
- 8:12Speaker 1: he's made a choice. Only to find out that there's
- 8:17Speaker 1: still conflict The Hebrews are fighting. And he rises up
- 8:23Speaker 1: to solve it. Now this is. When a woman is
- 8:28Speaker 1: birthing a baby. They call it crowning. When the head
- 8:31Speaker 1: first comes out. The head is the first thing that
- 8:33Speaker 1: comes out. You hear the nurse say it's crowning. His
- 8:36Speaker 1: greatness is crowning. His greatness is crowning. But it's crowning
- 8:41Speaker 1: at a time. That he is not positionally. In a
- 8:44Speaker 1: place to function. On the level that he's able to
- 8:47Speaker 1: think on. So he's functioning like a king, but he
- 8:53Speaker 1: is not a king. So you got an internal conflict
- 8:58Speaker 1: that has now gone external.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Think with me, church.
- 9:03Speaker 1: One of the things I love about preaching at the
- 9:05Speaker 1: potter's house is that you are a thinking people.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I cannot pastor people who do not think. I'm allergic
- 9:13Speaker 2: to them. They make me itch. Whew.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Deliver me from stupid people. I'm going to add that
- 9:23Speaker 1: line to the Lord's Prayer. Deliver us from evil and
- 9:26Speaker 1: stupid people. I'm just going to insert it right in
- 9:29Speaker 1: there just to dilate me out of it. Have you
- 9:35Speaker 1: ever had an argument with a fool? You lose all
- 9:40Speaker 1: interest in the argument when you find out that you
- 9:42Speaker 1: are not even intelligent enough to debate me on this
- 9:46Speaker 1: level and you start saying, that's okay. Don't even worry
- 9:50Speaker 1: about it. It's all good, baby.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Just chill. Rock with the music, honey. It's all right.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It don't even matter. Talk to the hand. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 2: He's in a dilemma now and he is fighting. He
- 10:08Speaker 2: is fighting. His greatness is coming out. It's crowning. And
- 10:13Speaker 2: when greatness crowns, it creates conflict.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Because it does not crown when you have been placed
- 10:20Speaker 1: in the position. It crowns before. You're rich before you
- 10:26Speaker 1: got the money. You're educated before you got the degree.
- 10:33Speaker 1: You're a preacher before they ordained you. You're a leader
- 10:37Speaker 1: before you get the job. You're a visionary before you
- 10:40Speaker 1: become a CEO. You're a wife before you get married.
- 10:44Speaker 1: You're a husband before you find a woman. If you're
- 10:47Speaker 1: not that before, you won't be after. So you have
- 10:53Speaker 1: to go through a period of displacement where you have
- 10:58Speaker 1: vision to function on a level and don't have opportunity,
- 11:02Speaker 1: which creates frustration. Yes, it does. Yes, it does. Because
- 11:06Speaker 1: you say, I feel this with everything I got inside
- 11:10Speaker 1: of me. But nothing outside has acknowledged me on the
- 11:14Speaker 1: level that I think on. And you don't feel appreciated
- 11:18Speaker 1: because your thoughts are up here and your situation. Do
- 11:24Speaker 1: you hear what I'm saying to you?
- 11:26Speaker 3: Still to come on The Potter's Touch.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I had no idea I was even important enough to
- 11:35Speaker 1: be hated on the level I was hated on. I
- 11:39Speaker 1: couldn't even defend myself because I was shocked that you
- 11:42Speaker 1: cared enough to write anything about me. Who am I
- 11:47Speaker 1: that you would care anyway? Your hatred of me helped
- 11:51Speaker 1: to tutor me into understanding my own significance.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Oh, y'all don't hear what I'm saying. What do you
- 12:01Speaker 2: do with the fire that will not go?
- 12:03Speaker 3: The wait is over. God wants to use you in
- 12:06Speaker 3: extraordinary ways now. Great things are ahead of you. You're
- 12:09Speaker 3: on the verge.
- 12:10Speaker 1: You are not just going from day to day, week
- 12:12Speaker 1: to week, month to month, and now you're getting ready
- 12:14Speaker 1: to step into another year. You are standing on the cusp.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Of an entirely new awakening.
- 12:20Speaker 2: There's a burning.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Desire down inside of you that will not shut up.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I got the pain, but I got the passion too.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I got the problem, but I got the passion too.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I got a little chatter going on, but I still
- 12:34Speaker 1: got the passion. Life is going to hand you something
- 12:37Speaker 1: every day. Take in what you can get out of it.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Let go of what you can't get out of it.
- 12:42Speaker 1: But don't let anybody hurt you so bad that you
- 12:47Speaker 1: shall die.
- 12:48Speaker 3: The wait is over. It's time to make your life count.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Order The Verge today. Visit our website or call 1-800-BISHOP-2.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Now look at the conflict for a minute. If it
- 13:07Speaker 1: were not enough conflict to be an Egyptian-speaking Hebrew, A
- 13:15Speaker 1: cultural conflict with an unresolved childhood. Now God is bringing
- 13:20Speaker 1: greatness out of a man who doesn't have a position
- 13:24Speaker 1: to match his intellect. A weaker person would have blown
- 13:31Speaker 1: their brains out. I said, this is just crazy. This
- 13:34Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense. Some of y'all are there right now.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Your life does not make any sense. You're in the
- 13:41Speaker 1: middle of your life and it doesn't make any sense
- 13:44Speaker 1: because you got thoughts over here, but your situation is
- 13:47Speaker 1: over here. And you're still trying to work out some
- 13:49Speaker 1: stuff from your childhood, but.
- 13:51Speaker 2: You're a grown man. Praise the Lord.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And you're in this situation and you're trying to fix
- 13:58Speaker 1: people around you while you're still conflicted on the inside.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And you wonder, how can the physician be sick? How
- 14:06Speaker 1: can the healer be broken? How can I help other
- 14:10Speaker 1: people and can't help myself? How can I, oh God,
- 14:14Speaker 1: help me to preach this thing. Am I talking to
- 14:17Speaker 1: anybody today? He's 40 years old. And he's trying to
- 14:23Speaker 1: get it together. And he's trying to figure it out.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And he's running out of time. And he's trying to help.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And he's trying to make a difference in spite of
- 14:30Speaker 1: his background, in spite of his childhood, in spite of
- 14:33Speaker 1: his conflict. He's trying to make a difference. He's trying
- 14:36Speaker 1: to make a difference. There's something down inside of him.
- 14:39Speaker 1: He can't figure out what it is. Nobody's taking ownership
- 14:42Speaker 1: of it. The Egyptians haven't embraced it. The Hebrews don't
- 14:45Speaker 1: like it. Moses doesn't understand it. Yet when he sees conflict,
- 14:49Speaker 1: he runs in there with a big S on his
- 14:51Speaker 1: shirt and he runs out there with his cape and
- 14:53Speaker 1: his boots on and he's trying to help people who
- 14:57Speaker 1: don't even like him. Have you ever tried to help
- 15:00Speaker 1: people who don't even appreciate the help you're trying to
- 15:04Speaker 1: give them? And there you are trying to make a
- 15:06Speaker 1: difference in their life and the very people you're trying
- 15:09Speaker 1: to help are giving you the most hell you ever
- 15:12Speaker 1: had in all of your life. Because you have never
- 15:15Speaker 1: been hurt till you get hurt by somebody you're trying
- 15:18Speaker 1: to help. Oh, I wish I had somebody who'd been misunderstood.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I wish I had somebody who was trying to do
- 15:27Speaker 1: a good thing. And every time you tried to do
- 15:29Speaker 1: something good, things got worse instead of better. The more
- 15:33Speaker 1: Moses tried to help people, the bigger mess he found
- 15:37Speaker 1: himself in. He's got a dead man buried in the
- 15:40Speaker 1: sand and he's out there in another fight. And before
- 15:43Speaker 1: he can get out of this, here comes that. And
- 15:45Speaker 1: before he can straighten out that, here comes something else.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Look like every 24 hours, a new kind of.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Fight breaks out in your life.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Is there anybody in church today that every time you
- 15:57Speaker 1: turn around, scared to answer the phone, scared to open
- 16:01Speaker 1: up your own email. You say, Lord, if another fight
- 16:05Speaker 1: breaks out in my life, I got fighting on the inside.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I got fighting on the outside. I got fighting in
- 16:13Speaker 1: my personal life. I got, oh God, I'm talking for somebody.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I don't even know who it is. And I want
- 16:23Speaker 1: you to see the irony. These two Hebrews are fighting.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Moses comes out to break up the fight. And one
- 16:31Speaker 1: of the Hebrews, he's not trying to kill anybody. He's
- 16:34Speaker 1: just trying to say, go home, don't fight. And one
- 16:36Speaker 1: of the Hebrews said, who are you to be trying
- 16:39Speaker 1: to straighten us out? Who made you prince? Well, who
- 16:45Speaker 1: did make him prince? The Lord had made him prince.
- 16:53Speaker 1: But he was trying to do the right thing at
- 16:57Speaker 1: the wrong time. Don't try to get there before you're there.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Just because you can think there, you have not been
- 17:11Speaker 1: placed there. You can be anointed and not be appointed.
- 17:19Speaker 1: You can be anointed to be king over Israel, David,
- 17:24Speaker 1: and then have to be sent back out there to
- 17:27Speaker 1: shovel sheep dung. Because one of the tests of greatness
- 17:33Speaker 1: is your ability to survive frustration. So God will put
- 17:39Speaker 1: greatness in isolation, which creates frustration. Because you have to
- 17:45Speaker 1: be able to survive frustration in order to be eligible.
- 17:50Speaker 2: To become a leader.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Because if you can't handle internal frustration, you sure can't
- 17:55Speaker 1: handle external frustration. If frustration on the inside is going
- 18:01Speaker 1: to make you quit, what in the world are you
- 18:03Speaker 1: going to do when you have frustration on the outside?
- 18:06Speaker 1: So when God is getting you ready for frustration on
- 18:08Speaker 1: the outside, he lets you deal with a lot of
- 18:11Speaker 1: frustration on the inside so that you can learn how
- 18:14Speaker 1: to be frustrated and still be faithful, frustrated and still
- 18:18Speaker 1: be consistent, frustrated and still be diligent. I'm talking to somebody.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I don't know who it is, but I'm talking to
- 18:26Speaker 1: somebody this morning.
- 18:29Speaker 2: So here he is.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And he's trying to, yes, shout with me, baby. I
- 18:35Speaker 1: feel something about to break loose in here this morning.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I feel the anointing of God about to break loose
- 18:40Speaker 1: in here. See, when you hear, this is how we
- 18:42Speaker 1: express ourselves, but when you hear people holler like that,
- 18:45Speaker 1: that means truth hits you. When truth hits you in
- 18:49Speaker 1: the face, all of a sudden you have a reaction
- 18:51Speaker 1: to it because I'm preaching to you about one thing,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but God is showing you different things in your life
- 18:57Speaker 1: that fit what I'm preaching about. That's a miracle of
- 19:01Speaker 1: preaching the gospel. And so.
- 19:05Speaker 1: The guy says to him, who made you prince over us?
- 19:11Speaker 1: His prophecy is in the mouth of his enemies. His
- 19:23Speaker 1: prophecy is in the mouth of his enemies. I learned
- 19:28Speaker 1: more about who I was from my haters. I had
- 19:36Speaker 1: no idea I was even important enough to be hated
- 19:43Speaker 1: on the level I was hated on.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I couldn't even.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Defend myself because I was shocked.
- 19:49Speaker 2: That you cared.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Enough to write anything about me who am I that
- 19:54Speaker 1: you would care anyway your hatred of me helped to
- 19:59Speaker 1: tutor me into understanding my own significance oh y'all don't
- 20:04Speaker 1: hear what I'm saying oh my god So his haters
- 20:11Speaker 1: now have said to him, who made you prince over us?
- 20:17Speaker 1: And then he says, this is where I want to
- 20:19Speaker 1: hammer down. He said, are you going to kill me
- 20:23Speaker 1: like you did the guy yesterday? Now, on one hand,
- 20:28Speaker 1: he has just discovered that he is a prince and
- 20:31Speaker 1: doesn't know it. Anointed but not appointed. Has greatness that
- 20:35Speaker 1: hadn't been revealed yet. And that's a wonderful thing. In
- 20:39Speaker 1: the next sentence, he finds out that his past has
- 20:43Speaker 1: come back to haunt him. What the first sentence should
- 20:52Speaker 1: have made him say, you know, yeah, I'm going to
- 20:54Speaker 1: be prince over you.
- 20:56Speaker 2: That's right.
- 20:57Speaker 1: God is just showing you what he's already showed me.
- 21:01Speaker 1: But the prince is a liar.
- 21:04Speaker 2: And a murderer. What do you do when you got
- 21:13Speaker 2: holiness and freakiness?
- 21:21Speaker 1: I'm going to look right over the top of everybody's head.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Amen lights. What do you do Y'all look so guilty.
- 21:43Speaker 1: If y'all didn't look so funny, I wouldn't know.
- 21:45Speaker 2: It was you. But I don't know nothing about you.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I just passed it here. I don't go home with you.
- 21:52Speaker 1: But what do you do? Ain't life crazy?
- 22:02Speaker 2: It's a mess, ain't it? It's a mess. It don't
- 22:04Speaker 2: make no sense, man. I tell you.
- 22:05Speaker 1: That's why I get into work because I'm trying to
- 22:07Speaker 1: figure it out because it's crazy.
- 22:09Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 22:10Speaker 1: What do you do when you got so much strength
- 22:12Speaker 1: in you that everybody comes to you and everybody leans
- 22:14Speaker 1: on you and everybody depends on you and everybody comes
- 22:17Speaker 1: to you for answers and you are a strong person,
- 22:20Speaker 1: but you are equally a weak person. You're a powerful person,
- 22:29Speaker 1: but you're also a tired person. And people see one
- 22:34Speaker 1: side and they don't see the other side. Am I
- 22:36Speaker 1: talking to anybody today? Amen. He is a prince over them.
- 22:45Speaker 1: He will deliver them. He will bring them out from
