Latest / Outspoken the Podcast / Ashy Bines' Former Best Friends Unite & The Postpartum Body Check
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show. Sarah's Day
- 0:12Speaker 1: has divided the internet after sharing a series of gym
- 0:16Speaker 1: selfies just five weeks after giving birth. Roxy Jasenko returns
- 0:20Speaker 1: from retirement and our highs and lows of the week.
- 0:23Speaker 1: But first, Ashley Bynes' three former best friends walked into
- 0:27Speaker 1: a bar. It sounds like a knock-knock joke, but it
- 0:29Speaker 1: actually happened on the weekend with Ashy the Punchline. It's
- 0:33Speaker 1: the latest revelation in Ashy's friendship breakdown with Kiara Dorough.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Before we get into it, Amy, can you give listeners
- 0:38Speaker 1: a refresher on what's gone down? Yeah, so the pair
- 0:41Speaker 1: hosted the Grow and Glow podcast together for two years,
- 0:44Speaker 1: and they were set to release a new product. However,
- 0:47Speaker 1: on the day of the launch, they revealed that something
- 0:50Speaker 1: suddenly came up and the product was delayed. Then came
- 0:54Speaker 1: the big unfollowing and the announcement in their podcast Facebook
- 0:57Speaker 1: group that Kiara had decided to leave the show to
- 0:59Speaker 1: focus supposedly on her family. The pair even shared an
- 1:03Speaker 1: explanation on their podcast. And while the stories appeared to
- 1:06Speaker 1: match up there, it was a different story on social media. Yeah,
- 1:09Speaker 1: because Kiara started making digs on her Instagram story. So
- 1:13Speaker 1: She was referring that there was much more to this story.
- 1:16Speaker 1: She said, I can't say much because I'm already losing
- 1:19Speaker 1: so much and don't want to lose anymore. But thank you.
- 1:22Speaker 1: And you are all so clever with a winking emoji.
- 1:25Speaker 1: She then went on to post a bunch of cryptic
- 1:27Speaker 1: quotes that threw shade at Ashi with one referring to
- 1:30Speaker 1: a narcissist. You know, shit's going down when the cryptic
- 1:33Speaker 1: quotes start coming out. It's a very millennial thing to do.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I remember doing this back in 2014. I haven't done
- 1:38Speaker 1: it for a while now. Ashi then went into damage
- 1:40Speaker 1: control on her podcast Facebook page, saying that she was
- 1:43Speaker 1: shocked by Kiara's behavior. And followers speculated that Kiara had
- 1:48Speaker 1: allegedly been hit with a gag order, as Ashi has
- 1:51Speaker 1: a reputation for allegedly sending cease and desist letters. Now,
- 1:55Speaker 1: while Kiara may be allegedly restricted in what she can
- 1:58Speaker 1: say publicly, it hasn't stopped her from giving her followers signs.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So on the weekend, Kiara posted a pretty innocuous photo
- 2:06Speaker 1: of three wine glassers and a menu at a restaurant
- 2:09Speaker 1: called Siblings. She didn't tag the diners, but she didn't
- 2:13Speaker 1: have to as they also posted near identical photos on
- 2:17Speaker 1: their own Instagram stories. So Kiara was having dinner with
- 2:20Speaker 1: none other than Ashy Bynes' former best friends, Sammy Leo
- 2:24Speaker 1: and Gretty Rose. I bet they had a lot to
- 2:26Speaker 1: catch up on and notes to compare. I would have
- 2:29Speaker 1: loved to be a fly on the wall at that
- 2:30Speaker 1: drink session. It is just such a fuck you to
- 2:32Speaker 1: organize a get together like that. I actually quite like it. Well, Ashy,
- 2:36Speaker 1: Sammy and Gretty, they all used to be best friends
- 2:38Speaker 1: until suddenly they weren't. And followers have always wondered what
- 2:42Speaker 1: happened between the women. We often get DMs asking, can
- 2:45Speaker 1: you guys please do a deep dive into this friendship breakdown?
- 2:48Speaker 1: There's so many people who are intrigued by it. And
- 2:50Speaker 1: that is why this is such a big power play
- 2:52Speaker 1: from Kiara. I would love to know who reached out
- 2:55Speaker 1: to who first. It reminds me of when you break
- 2:57Speaker 1: up with someone and you have this desire to reach
- 2:59Speaker 1: out to their exes to compare notes and see if
- 3:02Speaker 1: they did the same weird things. It's called trauma bonding, Sophie.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I wonder if Nat Rowland is a little bit dirty
- 3:07Speaker 1: that she was left off the invite list because She
- 3:10Speaker 1: is another one of Ashley Bynes' former best friends, and
- 3:12Speaker 1: she recently confirmed that they are no longer friends and
- 3:14Speaker 1: haven't been for a long time. You'd be absolutely spewing.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I'm sure she probably hit them up in their DMs
- 3:18Speaker 1: and was like, can we catch up next week? Let's
- 3:20Speaker 1: do the same sort of social media stories. Well, Ashley
- 3:22Speaker 1: has retaliated by sharing a photo on Monday of her
- 3:26Speaker 1: hanging out with her school friends over the weekend. She
- 3:28Speaker 1: captioned the photo, doesn't matter what I go through since
- 3:31Speaker 1: our teenage days, they are there through it all. Never
- 3:34Speaker 1: once do they ask or expect anything of me. So
- 3:36Speaker 1: forever grateful. What's the bet that these friends haven't heard
- 3:39Speaker 1: from her in months and then suddenly it's like, oh,
- 3:41Speaker 1: we've got the call up to come hang out with her.
- 3:43Speaker 1: What I take from the caption is she's implying her
- 3:46Speaker 1: former best friends were taking a lot from her and
- 3:48Speaker 1: expecting the world. I wonder what all their partners think
- 3:52Speaker 1: about this because I know if I was behaving this
- 3:54Speaker 1: way online, my husband would be like, Get off your
- 3:56Speaker 1: phone and fucking grow up. See, I think Kiara's husband
- 4:00Speaker 1: is probably very supportive of it. Reading between the lines,
- 4:02Speaker 1: it sounds like he's just as mad at Ashley as
- 4:04Speaker 1: she is. But don't you think there's a time when
- 4:06Speaker 1: you just need to jump off socials when it's becoming
- 4:08Speaker 1: a bit disruptive? I actually love this because they haven't
- 4:10Speaker 1: come out and slammed Ashley Bynes. They haven't said anything.
- 4:12Speaker 1: All they've done is posted a photo. But it's not
- 4:14Speaker 1: just the photo because they've actually all caught up. So
- 4:17Speaker 1: what else have they got in the works? Yeah, but
- 4:19Speaker 1: it actually sends the message that they want to say
- 4:21Speaker 1: more but can't, so they have to go have a catch-up.
- 4:24Speaker 2: We need to be quick because we're on a baby
- 4:26Speaker 2: time limit.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Self-proclaimed holistic health princess Sarah's Day has divided the internet
- 4:32Speaker 1: after sharing a series of gym selfies five weeks after
- 4:35Speaker 1: giving birth to her third son, Harlow. Many women on
- 4:39Speaker 1: their own postpartum journeys labelled the post as damaging. and
- 4:43Speaker 1: took offense to Sarah using it as an opportunity to
- 4:45Speaker 1: spruik her pregnancy fitness ebook, whilst others didn't see a
- 4:49Speaker 1: problem with Sarah sharing about her own experience. Now, Sophie,
- 4:52Speaker 1: it's been a tough couple of weeks for Sarah. Yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 1: she's been very vocal about how difficult she has found
- 4:58Speaker 1: this newborn experience because her son, Harlow, he has been
- 5:02Speaker 1: suffering from some very severe reflux issues, and it's meant
- 5:05Speaker 1: that Sarah has been in the trenches. She's been getting
- 5:08Speaker 1: very little sleep. She's been cluster feeding. Last week, she
- 5:11Speaker 1: said she was going to take some time offline because
- 5:13Speaker 1: she explained she had been struggling with her mental health
- 5:16Speaker 1: and admitted that she had no energy to speak to
- 5:18Speaker 1: her community. It's interesting because she only ended up being
- 5:21Speaker 1: offline for around 24 hours before she started posting all
- 5:24Speaker 1: these body checks of herself. I think she probably would
- 5:26Speaker 1: have benefited from taking that time offline because it's quite
- 5:29Speaker 1: clear that she's putting a lot of pressure on herself
- 5:32Speaker 1: to solve her son's reflux issues. She's been talking about
- 5:35Speaker 1: how she's been cutting out all these different food groups
- 5:38Speaker 1: because she thinks it's contributing to these issues. She's also
- 5:41Speaker 1: been speaking to a ton of naturopaths and trying to
- 5:43Speaker 1: figure out what is going on. Most recently, she took
- 5:46Speaker 1: Harlow to see an osteo to see if maybe the
- 5:49Speaker 1: issue was being caused by a lip tie. And as always,
- 5:52Speaker 1: she's been very open about discussing her son's potential medical concerns,
- 5:56Speaker 1: which some people find really relatable. I know there's been
- 5:59Speaker 1: a lot of followers who have said that They've enjoyed
- 6:02Speaker 1: seeing a realistic experience with a newborn and not someone
- 6:05Speaker 1: glamorizing it. But on the other side of it, she
- 6:08Speaker 1: did promise not to talk about her children's medical conditions
- 6:11Speaker 1: after there was a lot of issues and a lot
- 6:13Speaker 1: of publicity around her second son Malachi's health concerns. Yeah,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and I found it weird because last night she posted
- 6:19Speaker 1: a poll. asking for her followers to vote whether she
- 6:22Speaker 1: should get medical treatment on Harlow's lip tie. And I
- 6:25Speaker 1: was like, surely this is something you need to talk
- 6:27Speaker 1: to your doctor about. Not just a yes, no poll.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I mean, I personally think it should remain private. I
- 6:32Speaker 1: don't think that these things should be aired online, but
- 6:35Speaker 1: others have different opinions. Now for Sarah, she has been
- 6:38Speaker 1: raring to get back into the gym. She is currently
- 6:41Speaker 1: five weeks postpartum and said that she wanted to ease
- 6:43Speaker 1: back into things with the Pilates class. That's when alarm
- 6:46Speaker 1: bells started ringing for me because normally you're advised to
- 6:49Speaker 1: wait at least six weeks and have to get approval
- 6:51Speaker 1: from your doctor to exercise. Now in Sarah's case, she
- 6:54Speaker 1: did mention that her pelvic floor physio, Charlotte Connellan, had
- 6:58Speaker 1: given her the all clear. However, Charlotte is a business
- 7:02Speaker 1: partner and she's also engaged in cahoots with Sarah at
- 7:05Speaker 1: the moment because they have created this pregnancy workout guide
- 7:08Speaker 1: together called Body and Bump, which is what Sarah has
- 7:10Speaker 1: been spruiking. So it seems a little bit unethical that
- 7:13Speaker 1: it was Charlotte that gave her the all clear. It
- 7:15Speaker 1: does make it murky. I can see why Sarah wants
- 7:18Speaker 1: to return to the gym, particularly if her mental health
- 7:21Speaker 1: is struggling at the moment. Her whole identity is centered
- 7:23Speaker 1: around exercise and it's clearly an activity that makes her
- 7:27Speaker 1: happy and gets her endorphins going. And in her Instagram story,
- 7:30Speaker 1: she wrote, I could cry. I'm so excited to be
- 7:33Speaker 1: back in one, a hot Pilates class, two, a workout
- 7:36Speaker 1: class in general. I will go into more detail about this,
- 7:39Speaker 1: but moving my body does so much for my mental
- 7:42Speaker 1: health and emotional regulation, and three, my positive headspace. It
- 7:46Speaker 1: really didn't surprise me to see Sarah back in the
- 7:49Speaker 1: gym so early, but what did seem to generate a
- 7:51Speaker 1: huge reaction online? was how Sarah looked in her gym selfies.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Before we dive into how she looked, I want to
- 7:58Speaker 1: preface here that this is such a sensitive topic. And
- 8:01Speaker 1: I don't think that any postpartum woman's body should be shamed,
- 8:04Speaker 1: whether they've gained weight or they've gone back quickly to
- 8:07Speaker 1: their pre-pregnancy weight, because everyone's bodies at the end of
- 8:10Speaker 1: the day are so different. And there are a lot
- 8:13Speaker 1: of women like Sarah who, due to genetics or the
- 8:16Speaker 1: fact that they stayed very active during their pregnancy, returned
- 8:19Speaker 1: very quickly to their pre-pregnancy body. So I don't want
- 8:21Speaker 1: anyone to think that we are saying that there is
- 8:24Speaker 1: a right way to be after you give birth and
- 8:26Speaker 1: a wrong way. But I don't think anyone was shaming
- 8:28Speaker 1: her body. I think people were saying, she looks incredible.
- 8:31Speaker 1: She looks like she hasn't had a baby. And that
- 8:33Speaker 1: is really difficult. I mean, I'm six months postpartum and
- 8:37Speaker 1: I personally found it really difficult to look at. And
- 8:39Speaker 1: I saw a lot of conversation in our Facebook group. Oh,
- 8:41Speaker 1: people are just jealous. Well, yeah, of course I would
- 8:44Speaker 1: like to look like I'd been hitting the gym. Yeah.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But when I say shaming, what I mean about it
- 8:49Speaker 1: is I have spoken to other moms who they have
- 8:52Speaker 1: very much gone quickly back to what they used to
- 8:54Speaker 1: look like. And they haven't actually done anything. They've just
- 8:56Speaker 1: been genetically blessed. And they said that they almost feel
- 8:59Speaker 1: like everyone is making these assertions on them. That they're
- 9:02Speaker 1: not eating or that they're just flogging themselves at the gym.
- 9:05Speaker 1: They're not putting their child first. But she's literally back
- 9:07Speaker 1: at the gym five weeks after having a baby. So
- 9:09Speaker 1: I think it's kind of, she is playing into that
- 9:11Speaker 1: narrative that she is working out a lot. But that's
- 9:13Speaker 1: her first time working out and she looks like that.
- 9:15Speaker 1: But there's also a difference between having to share it
- 9:19Speaker 1: all online and shove it down people's throats. Yes, the
- 9:22Speaker 1: body checks. Because in this video that Sarah put up,
- 9:25Speaker 1: she's wearing light grey bike shorts and a white crop top.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Her abs are very prominent in her photo. She's got
- 9:31Speaker 1: her stomach is like completely flat. And she was also
- 9:34Speaker 1: posing in specific ways that showed off her body to
- 9:36Speaker 1: look thin. Among all of the photos, which many people
- 9:39Speaker 1: are referring to as body checks, She had to point
- 9:42Speaker 1: out that she was only five weeks postpartum and wrote,
- 9:44Speaker 1: my previous two postpartum experiences, I've gone back to workouts
- 9:48Speaker 1: at seven and eight-ish weeks postpartum. But this birth was
- 9:51Speaker 1: so different with no tearing, easy pushing, and I felt
- 9:54Speaker 1: physically great. Now, following her visit to the gym, she
- 9:58Speaker 1: was inundated. with questions about how she managed to actually
- 10:02Speaker 1: make it to the gym without Harlow. Sarah ended up
- 10:05Speaker 1: jumping on her stories and explained that everything fell into
- 10:08Speaker 1: place that morning. Here's what she said.
- 10:11Speaker 2: So the only way I can go anywhere without him
- 10:13Speaker 2: is if I feed just before I leave. But because
- 10:16Speaker 2: he's not on a schedule at all, like he is
- 10:19Speaker 2: five weeks postpartum and I just feed on demand. Like
- 10:23Speaker 2: sometimes that's every two hours. Sometimes that's like a cluster
- 10:26Speaker 2: feed at like witching hour and he's on my boob
- 10:28Speaker 2: the whole time. Or sometimes it's like three hours or
- 10:30Speaker 2: three and a half hours. I have no idea. And
- 10:33Speaker 2: it just so happened that he fed at like 6.30
- 10:37Speaker 2: this morning. Like he just wanted a feed. And then
- 10:39Speaker 2: so I could feed him at 9.00. put them on
- 10:41Speaker 2: my boob, drained it. And then I rode my bike
- 10:44Speaker 2: up to Pilates and I just made it. Like I
- 10:46Speaker 2: like got in the.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Class and it had started. She then prefaced after this
- 10:50Speaker 1: that she's not actually back at the gym training, but
- 10:53Speaker 1: today was about her mental health and getting 45 minutes
- 10:56Speaker 1: to an hour to herself. It's quite clear people were
- 10:59Speaker 1: quite shocked by Sarah's appearance because she had to return
- 11:01Speaker 1: to her stories again to provide a further update on
- 11:04Speaker 1: what her body looks like at the moment. So she
- 11:07Speaker 1: shared a video of This time of her shorts rolled
- 11:10Speaker 1: down so you could see her belly from two different angles,
- 11:13Speaker 1: front on and to the side. And in the corner,
- 11:15Speaker 1: she added a before image of her seven weeks pregnant
- 11:19Speaker 1: at one of her activewear collection shoots where she looked
- 11:21Speaker 1: absolutely ripped. And in the caption, she wrote, I was
- 11:24Speaker 1: seven weeks preggy here, so not showing, but I was
- 11:27Speaker 1: at one of my fittest before this pregnancy. Thank you
- 11:29Speaker 1: for everyone's lovely messages, but a few things. One, I
- 11:32Speaker 1: promise you, I still have a long way to go.
- 11:34Speaker 1: to regain my core and ab definition. That is not
- 11:37Speaker 1: my goal or not even in my mind at the moment.
- 11:40Speaker 1: It's strange that she says it's not a goal or
- 11:42Speaker 1: in her mind at the moment, but she's going ahead
- 11:44Speaker 1: and sharing all of these body checks. It's interesting that
- 11:46Speaker 1: she pointed out that she's not where she wants to
- 11:49Speaker 1: be in a fitness journey and she's still got a
- 11:50Speaker 1: long way to go. And I think that's because she
- 11:52Speaker 1: wants people to buy into the pregnancy fitness plan and
- 11:55Speaker 1: see that there is a transformation. She doesn't want people
- 11:58Speaker 1: to think that she's genetically blessed and just, you know,
- 12:01Speaker 1: she's clicked her fingers and gone back to what she was.
- 12:03Speaker 1: That's the issue. The messaging is so off in all
- 12:06Speaker 1: of this because she then continued in her post saying, two,
- 12:09Speaker 1: I did my body and bump workout program until the
- 12:11Speaker 1: end of my pregnancy. And then in brackets, my most
- 12:14Speaker 1: consistent workout routine in pregnancy yet. So she's just continuing
- 12:17Speaker 1: to flog the ebook. Then she said, and three, I
- 12:19Speaker 1: have lost so much of my strength and tone, but
- 12:20Speaker 1: that's okay. Being my third postpartum experience and even just
- 12:23Speaker 1: being 32 and more mature. I'm in no rush to
- 12:26Speaker 1: get my abs back or look a certain way. I'm
- 12:28Speaker 1: just so happy to be feeling like myself slowly again
- 12:30Speaker 1: and loving my body that has created three beautiful babies. Again,
- 12:33Speaker 1: there is just so much mixed messaging going on because, okay,
- 12:36Speaker 1: you can go to the gym for your mental health.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Why are you sharing it online? Why are you body
- 12:41Speaker 1: checking online? Do you realize that you're actually affecting the
- 12:44Speaker 1: mental health of postpartum women? I also think it's quite
- 12:47Speaker 1: easy to say that you love your body and you're
- 12:49Speaker 1: super grateful for it when you look near identical to
- 12:52Speaker 1: how you looked before falling pregnant. Well, the thing is,
- 12:54Speaker 1: she doesn't look near identical. She was extremely ripped before. Well,
- 12:57Speaker 1: then a standard size six or eight. Yeah, exactly. But
- 13:00Speaker 1: she still looks like a very thin person that just
- 13:03Speaker 1: might not have the ab definition and the muscle tone
- 13:05Speaker 1: that she once had. okay, that's going to be a
- 13:07Speaker 1: big change for her. But what really annoyed me because
- 13:09Speaker 1: there was a big conversation in our Facebook group about
- 13:12Speaker 1: it and people were like, oh, you're just jealous about
- 13:14Speaker 1: her body and good for her, it's for her mental health, blah, blah, blah. Okay,
- 13:18Speaker 1: that is completely fine. Sarah can go and do whatever
- 13:21Speaker 1: she wants in her own time. That is her own prerogative.
- 13:24Speaker 1: But when you are trying to prey on vulnerable women
- 13:27Speaker 1: to buy your postpartum ebook, that is the issue. Well,
- 13:31Speaker 1: that's the thing. Following these series of videos, She then
- 13:34Speaker 1: shared links to the Black Friday special that she was
- 13:37Speaker 1: running for this pregnancy ebook. And that is what made
- 13:40Speaker 1: me feel the most uncomfortable. I mean, from a business perspective,
- 13:43Speaker 1: it's the perfect time to mention it because we've already
- 13:46Speaker 1: made all these postpartum women feel insecure and like they're
- 13:49Speaker 1: not doing enough. So of course, they're going to think, well, fuck,
- 13:51Speaker 1: if I want to look like her, I better go
- 13:53Speaker 1: and spend $ 100 on this ebook. And what makes it
- 13:56Speaker 1: more apparent that it is just a push to sell
- 13:58Speaker 1: this ebook is it is not in line with what
- 14:01Speaker 1: she's currently been sharing. So last week she said, I'm
- 14:04Speaker 1: going on a hiatus. I do not have the energy
- 14:06Speaker 1: or time to focus on even putting content out there. However,
- 14:09Speaker 1: a couple of days later in the lead up to
- 14:11Speaker 1: Black Friday, she's at the gym. She's found time to
- 14:14Speaker 1: start flogging her ebook. It doesn't line up because she
- 14:18Speaker 1: is actually having a really difficult time. She clearly is
- 14:22Speaker 1: struggling with her mental health. And I think that is
- 14:24Speaker 1: why a lot of people are trying to see the
- 14:26Speaker 1: best and say, well, I think she's doing it for
- 14:28Speaker 1: her mental health, but When you really do look at
- 14:30Speaker 1: the strategy around trying to push this book in the
- 14:32Speaker 1: Black Friday sales, I also think that we need to
- 14:35Speaker 1: remember that this is very concerning and potentially damaging behavior
- 14:39Speaker 1: because these types of promotions are almost shaming postpartum women
- 14:43Speaker 1: into not feeling enough and then encouraging them to rush
- 14:46Speaker 1: back into exercise when their bodies have not properly healed yet.
- 14:50Speaker 1: But the reality is she may be doing it for
- 14:52Speaker 1: her mental health. cool, share that you're at the gym
- 14:54Speaker 1: but don't post the fucking body checks the whole time.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It just makes people feel like shit. But see, I
- 14:58Speaker 1: think posting the fact that she is at the gym
- 15:01Speaker 1: five weeks postpartum is damaging because her job is to
- 15:04Speaker 1: influence people and there'd be a lot of women that
- 15:07Speaker 1: have just had a baby and are like, shit, I
- 15:10Speaker 1: haven't even thought of going to the gym. I mean,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I'm six months postpartum. I used to exercise regularly before
- 15:15Speaker 1: I was pregnant. I have not done one workout. And
- 15:18Speaker 1: when I saw that, I was like, shit, am I
- 15:20Speaker 1: just being lazy? I mean, I am struggling to work,
- 15:23Speaker 1: look after my baby, run a house, like have a
- 15:26Speaker 1: social life. And then I'm thinking, oh shit, maybe I
- 15:29Speaker 1: should be exercising as well. This post definitely did elicit
- 15:32Speaker 1: a huge response from our Facebook community. And I have
- 15:36Speaker 1: to say the comments were pretty divided. There were a
- 15:38Speaker 1: lot of women who like UK to going through their
- 15:41Speaker 1: postpartum journeys and And they commented saying that they found
- 15:44Speaker 1: the post very damaging and upsetting. So one listener wrote,
- 15:48Speaker 1: as someone who had a baby a few days before her,
- 15:50Speaker 1: this is so frustrating, making me do some serious eye rolling.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I'm still having outfit meltdowns every day when I go
- 15:57Speaker 1: to get dressed. So To see this is pretty annoying.
- 16:00Speaker 1: It's literally genetics. God, I could not relate more to
- 16:02Speaker 1: that meltdown about outfits. Another listener said, as a woman
- 16:06Speaker 1: with prolapse, this absolutely enrages me. It's irresponsible and it
- 16:10Speaker 1: not only sets unrealistic expectations for postpartum women, it also
- 16:14Speaker 1: puts pressure on women to push themselves at the risk
- 16:17Speaker 1: of prolapse and other issues because they see influencers doing
- 16:20Speaker 1: things like this and thinking it'll be fine. Another listener said,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I get that everyone is different, but I don't think
- 16:26Speaker 1: one person watching feels good after watching those stories and
- 16:30Speaker 1: inevitably comparing baby or not. Now, on the other side,
- 16:33Speaker 1: there were some listeners that didn't see an issue with
- 16:36Speaker 1: her post saying she was simply sharing her experience. One
- 16:39Speaker 1: listener wrote, I don't see anything wrong with this. Her
- 16:42Speaker 1: mental health isn't great at the moment. So I say
- 16:44Speaker 1: good on her for doing something for her that's going
- 16:47Speaker 1: to help her. I see zero gloating here, nor education.
- 16:50Speaker 1: She's just saying she is doing what works for her.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Whilst another said she's been posting about how her mental
- 16:56Speaker 1: health has been impacted by this third baby. If she's
- 16:59Speaker 1: been given the all clear to exercise, good for her.
- 17:02Speaker 1: If that's what she wants to do and if that's
- 17:03Speaker 1: what makes her feel better, great. She's not telling anyone
- 17:06Speaker 1: what to do. She's sharing her experience. But don't people
- 17:10Speaker 1: understand that as an influencer sharing her experience, she's influencing
- 17:14Speaker 1: people to do what she does? I can kind of
- 17:16Speaker 1: see what they're saying because I think people feel uncomfortable
- 17:19Speaker 1: sharing to criticize her actions, particularly because she's going through
- 17:22Speaker 1: a difficult time at the moment. And clearly exercise is
- 17:25Speaker 1: something that helps people's mental health. And they're saying, look,
- 17:28Speaker 1: she's learned her lesson because she's not sitting there saying, hey, everyone,
- 17:31Speaker 1: you should be doing this. But then in a way
- 17:34Speaker 1: she is because of her e-book. That's what I was
- 17:35Speaker 1: going to say. I would like to know how many
- 17:37Speaker 1: of the people who commented positive things about it have
- 17:39Speaker 1: actually had a baby. Well, there were a few that said,
- 17:41Speaker 1: you know, I'm on my postpartum journey and I see
- 17:43Speaker 1: no issue with it. Obviously, everyone is going to have
- 17:46Speaker 1: a different opinion on it. And I think that everyone
- 17:48Speaker 1: is welcome to that opinion. But I think that postpartum
- 17:52Speaker 1: women are also allowed to share that it made them
- 17:55Speaker 1: really upset. I mean, I saw a woman crying on
- 17:57Speaker 1: TikTok saying that she has been working so hard to
- 18:00Speaker 1: lose weight and eating right. And then she sees Sarah's
- 18:03Speaker 1: Day post that five weeks after having a baby. And
- 18:06Speaker 1: it was just so demoralizing. And yes, of course, people
- 18:09Speaker 1: will say, don't compare yourself, unfollow that person. But that's
- 18:12Speaker 1: actually not really realistic because even if you unfollow someone,
- 18:16Speaker 1: the way the algorithm works, it's going to pop up
- 18:18Speaker 1: in your feed regardless. And don't you think as well,
- 18:20Speaker 1: it's like this thing of the way your brain works,
- 18:23Speaker 1: like you might think, oh, that's so toxic and that's gross.
- 18:26Speaker 1: But then you're kind of envious and think, oh, well,
- 18:28Speaker 1: I'd actually love to have that body. And it starts
- 18:30Speaker 1: to get in your head, oh, maybe I should be
- 18:31Speaker 1: doing this. Like for me, I'm like, maybe I should
- 18:34Speaker 1: be doing some workouts while I'm pregnant. And then I'm like, no,
- 18:37Speaker 1: I shouldn't do that. Well, I mean, it's not unsafe
- 18:40Speaker 1: to work out during pregnancy. It's actually quite good for you. No,
- 18:43Speaker 1: but I mean like more workouts than I'm doing. Look,
- 18:45Speaker 1: I mean, I. Which is zero. I'm not postpartum. I'm
- 18:48Speaker 1: not postpartum or pregnant. And it made me think, fuck,
- 18:50Speaker 1: look at her body. I want to work out. Like,
- 18:52Speaker 1: isn't it? It's terrible. Yeah. And that's the thing. We
- 18:54Speaker 1: all know deep down that it's not realistic, but that's
- 18:57Speaker 1: not how social media works. It preys on you when
- 18:59Speaker 1: you're feeling vulnerable. And that's what it's done here. And
- 19:03Speaker 1: what makes it worse is that she knows what she's
- 19:05Speaker 1: doing because she's got the hook of a postpartum guide
- 19:07Speaker 1: at the end of it. It's not the first time
- 19:08Speaker 1: she's been criticised for something like this as well and
- 19:10Speaker 1: I think that's what has pissed a lot of people
- 19:12Speaker 1: off is that she has a history of doing this. Yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 1: she hasn't learnt. I think what would really demonstrate the
- 19:18Speaker 1: impact that her posts have had on people is how
- 19:20Speaker 1: many people signed up that day for her e-book. I'd
- 19:23Speaker 1: be very interested to know those stats. So you're back
- 19:26Speaker 1: in PR. Housewifery was not for me. Roxy DeSanco is
- 19:31Speaker 1: officially back. The PR queen has returned to public relations
- 19:35Speaker 1: after sensationally quitting her company, Sweaty Betty, two years ago.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Roxy labeled the decision to quit as a midlife crisis
- 19:42Speaker 1: and recently revealed on the Lazy CEO podcast that life
- 19:45Speaker 1: as a housewife was boring. Let's have a listen to
- 19:48Speaker 1: what she said. I'm no good on the washing machine.
- 19:51Speaker 1: I'm fucking lousy on the hospital corners for beds. What
- 19:54Speaker 1: did you do in your housewife times? What did I do?
- 19:56Speaker 1: I shopped and shopped. It's the fucking most boring existence. Remember,
- 20:01Speaker 1: I worked since I was 14. Yeah. So I was bored. Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I left. I went to Singapore, suntanned, ate, drunk, put
- 20:09Speaker 1: 18 kilos on. Do we really believe that she didn't
- 20:12Speaker 1: have a housekeeper in Singapore? I think she did considering
- 20:15Speaker 1: she said she shopped and shopped and shopped. I can't
- 20:18Speaker 1: really imagine Roxy making the beds and doing the washing.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I'm envious of her because Singapore would be such a
- 20:23Speaker 1: fun place to go shopping every day. Yeah, but it
- 20:25Speaker 1: would get boring. It would be unfulfilling, particularly if you've
- 20:28Speaker 1: had this very successful career beforehand. Well, she's come back
- 20:31Speaker 1: with guns blazing because she has made the claim that
- 20:33Speaker 1: in the last two years since she's been away, no
- 20:36Speaker 1: one has taken her place in the PR world. because
- 20:39Speaker 1: they weren't willing to take the risks and push the
- 20:42Speaker 1: boundaries like her. And she said that that is what
- 20:44Speaker 1: has given her her competitive edge over the last 18 years.
- 20:48Speaker 1: A bit of a bold statement after the PR nightmare
- 20:52Speaker 1: that she was embroiled in recently with the house giveaway. Well,
- 20:56Speaker 1: let's have a listen to what Roxy said has made
- 20:58Speaker 1: her such a good PR guru. Treated the business of
- 21:01Speaker 1: the customers as my own. Because of that, I did well.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I made serious fucking money. But now everyone's safe and
- 21:09Speaker 1: concerned and so politically correct. I didn't give a fuck
- 21:13Speaker 1: what you think about me. Cancel culture is so big.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I mean, I think I've been cancelled 500 times. Yes,
- 21:18Speaker 1: you can't get younger. Hey, I'm the queen of reinvention, doll.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. I love it. I
- 21:23Speaker 1: love it. Yeah, the poster girl for it. You can
- 21:26Speaker 1: think of big PR firms in Melbourne and Sydney, but
- 21:28Speaker 1: they're not necessarily centred around an individual like Roxy. The
- 21:32Speaker 1: way that she is touted as being this PR queen
- 21:35Speaker 1: and she's really the face of the business. we don't
- 21:38Speaker 1: see too many companies run like that anymore. Yeah. I mean,
- 21:40Speaker 1: and Roxy's right. She has been canceled a number of
- 21:43Speaker 1: times for different things she has said, but she continues
- 21:46Speaker 1: to land big clients because people just love how blunt
- 21:49Speaker 1: she is. I mean, I listened to this interview and
- 21:51Speaker 1: I was like, Fuck, she's done wrong in the past,
- 21:53Speaker 1: but she is hilarious. Well, she also has a reputation
- 21:56Speaker 1: of someone who will get the job done no matter what.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I went to one of her live shows when I
- 22:02Speaker 1: was working at another PR firm right before we started
- 22:05Speaker 1: our business, Amy. And I remember hearing that she has
- 22:07Speaker 1: a rule that she has to reply to an email
- 22:11Speaker 1: within a couple of hours. And that's the same rule
- 22:14Speaker 1: that she applies to her staff. And it's that persistence
- 22:17Speaker 1: and consistency, I think, that helps her attract business and
- 22:21Speaker 1: keep business. See, I'm wondering, did she want to return
- 22:24Speaker 1: or was forced to return? Because when all of that
- 22:27Speaker 1: drama broke around the house competition, it sounded like she
- 22:31Speaker 1: took a very big hit financially, particularly having to refund
- 22:34Speaker 1: all of those customers, their entrance. Well, she did joke
- 22:37Speaker 1: on the podcast that she spent all of her money.
- 22:39Speaker 1: So I think there was a little bit of truth
- 22:41Speaker 1: to the fact that she is having to return for
- 22:43Speaker 1: financial reasons. And it will be interesting to see, Kate,
- 22:46Speaker 1: in terms of the scandal that we've recently seen unfold
- 22:49Speaker 1: with that housing lottery competition, whether that will affect her
- 22:53Speaker 1: reputation and whether brands will trust working with her. She's
- 22:56Speaker 1: already had huge clients like Stacks and Mermaid Hair return
- 23:00Speaker 1: to Sweaty Betty. Well, I wouldn't call them huge brands.
- 23:02Speaker 1: I mean, they are. Stacks is huge. Stacks is a
- 23:05Speaker 1: very successful activewear brand, but I wouldn't say Mermaid Hair.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Does she have a financial stake in Mermaid Hair? Yeah,
- 23:11Speaker 1: because they sponsor Pixie. I feel like she must have
- 23:14Speaker 1: something to do with them. I mean, Stacks is a
- 23:16Speaker 1: big brand in Australia, but the way she talks, you
- 23:20Speaker 1: would have thought that maybe there were some international brands
- 23:22Speaker 1: coming her way, particularly because she's been living in Singapore.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I mean, the brands make sense because she's a lifestyle agency.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Those are large lifestyle brands. I'm interested in hearing that
- 23:32Speaker 1: she thinks that her PR business is going to be
- 23:34Speaker 1: bigger than Ministry of Talent, because if anything, like from
- 23:36Speaker 1: having a PR business, the way that PR is going
- 23:39Speaker 1: is everything is moving to influencers. Everything is moving to
- 23:42Speaker 1: paid content. Mainstream media is dying. So it's quite an
- 23:46Speaker 1: interesting strategy that she's putting more of her attention into PR.
- 23:49Speaker 1: It's funny you say that because she took a stab
- 23:52Speaker 1: at some of her PR competitors. And she said that
- 23:54Speaker 1: PR agencies these days are putting too much focus on
- 23:58Speaker 1: just sending product to influencers. And I actually agree with it.
- 24:01Speaker 1: She said that influencers should not be the be all
- 24:04Speaker 1: and end all. And the issue is that everyone's an
- 24:08Speaker 1: influencer these days. And she said, if you look into
- 24:10Speaker 1: the stats, they're not selling as much product as they
- 24:13Speaker 1: used to and that more agencies should be focusing on
- 24:16Speaker 1: traditional media like TV, radio and print. And that's what
- 24:19Speaker 1: we tend to do with our clients. So I also
- 24:21Speaker 1: saw Sam Mangan who runs Spin & Co, which is
- 24:24Speaker 1: another successful PR firm, sharing that same sentiment around influencer marketing.
- 24:28Speaker 1: He said, because the influencer space is so oversaturated and
- 24:32Speaker 1: it's the wild west at the moment, that people are
- 24:34Speaker 1: paying all this money to for really no return. So
- 24:37Speaker 1: I'm really fascinated in particular to see what Roxy does
- 24:40Speaker 1: in the mainstream media with brands like Stacks and also
- 24:43Speaker 1: Mermaid Hair, who predominantly have built a following and got
- 24:47Speaker 1: an exposure through influencer marketing. Because if you think about Stacks,
- 24:50Speaker 1: they are always doing influencer collaborations. That's the only way
- 24:53Speaker 1: I heard about their brand. It sounds like she's coming
- 24:55Speaker 1: in for quality control over their influencers. Mm-hmm. Let's get
- 24:58Speaker 1: into our highs and lows of the week. And Amy,
- 25:01Speaker 1: we're dying to talk about your pregnancy. This has been
- 25:03Speaker 1: a long kept secret now. Yeah, it's been really frustrating
- 25:06Speaker 1: because I've wanted to say for so long on the
- 25:08Speaker 1: podcast that I am pregnant, especially when we do our
- 25:10Speaker 1: highs and lows, because I've had so many funny things
- 25:12Speaker 1: that have popped up during blood tests or ultrasounds that
- 25:15Speaker 1: I've wanted to discuss. But, yes, I officially let everybody
- 25:18Speaker 1: know last week that I was pregnant. Well, I've known
- 25:21Speaker 1: for two months now because you broke the news to
- 25:23Speaker 1: me on the podcast. People might have seen the clip
- 25:26Speaker 1: we posted on our Instagram and I had no fucking
- 25:29Speaker 1: idea because you'd been telling me, oh, I've got my period. Well,
- 25:32Speaker 1: you've got to pretend, don't you? You want that sort
- 25:35Speaker 1: of surprise because I'm 19 weeks this week. I can't
- 25:39Speaker 1: believe you're that far along because now that I've got
- 25:41Speaker 1: something to compare it to, like I was 17 weeks
- 25:44Speaker 1: pregnant at your wedding. It felt so far along the way.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But I think you seemed further back because you hadn't
- 25:50Speaker 1: announced it. It was like a secret. Also, because you
- 25:52Speaker 1: wear baggy clothes. So we only copped a look at
- 25:55Speaker 1: the bump really today before we recorded this episode. I
- 25:58Speaker 1: think I've sort of popped this week at the 19-week mark.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I have a bone to pick with you. I'm a
- 26:05Speaker 1: little bit sad that Sophie was the first out of
- 26:07Speaker 1: us to find out because I was on maternity leave.
- 26:10Speaker 1: You couldn't have waited until I was back. Well, okay,
- 26:12Speaker 1: so the reality is the first people I told, well,
- 26:14Speaker 1: Dale and I told, were like my mum and dad
- 26:17Speaker 1: and his mum and his poppy. And we did it
- 26:19Speaker 1: that weekend before I told Sophie in the podcast recording
- 26:22Speaker 1: people will have seen. And I tried to invite you
- 26:25Speaker 1: along to this event and you're like, I can't come,
- 26:28Speaker 1: I don't have time, blah, blah, blah. Oh, so you're
- 26:30Speaker 1: going to tell Kate first. No, but then I was
- 26:32Speaker 1: going to invite you as well. I was going to
- 26:33Speaker 1: tell everyone at once. Yeah, but you should have planned
- 26:35Speaker 1: it better. But it seemed, you know what, it seemed so...
- 26:37Speaker 1: obvious and I wanted it to be a surprise. So
- 26:39Speaker 1: I thought, look, it's going to be too hard to
- 26:41Speaker 1: get Kate to come down to this podcast recording. I'm
- 26:45Speaker 1: just going to surprise her in a separate way. So
- 26:47Speaker 1: I did it a few days later and I gave
- 26:49Speaker 1: you this baby outfit for Jack that said, my auntie's
- 26:53Speaker 1: got my best friend baking in her stomach or something
- 26:55Speaker 1: like that. So I'll have to put your reaction up
- 26:57Speaker 1: on the outspoken Instagram. Oh, I look so glamorous as
- 26:59Speaker 1: well in that one. We are going to go. So
- 27:02Speaker 1: do I, I look terrible in it. We are going
- 27:04Speaker 1: to go into more detail in our subscriber episode about
- 27:07Speaker 1: your pregnancy, which I'm really excited to get into. Yeah.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Maybe I should share one of my lows of the
- 27:12Speaker 1: week though, from when I was getting all of those
- 27:14Speaker 1: pregnancy tests, because there were two that stood out. One
- 27:17Speaker 1: was the fact that you do have to give a
- 27:19Speaker 1: urine sample. And despite needing to go to the toilet constantly,
- 27:23Speaker 1: for some reason, my bladder was not actually allowing me
- 27:26Speaker 1: to do any urine in the cup when I had
- 27:28Speaker 1: to provide it. Is that because you went five times
- 27:30Speaker 1: before you left the house? No, I was drinking so
- 27:32Speaker 1: much water in the car. I had stage fright and
- 27:34Speaker 1: had to come back in with this like pitiful amount
- 27:36Speaker 1: of urine. I was like, is this enough? The worst
- 27:38Speaker 1: bit is when you drink too much water and it's
- 27:40Speaker 1: too diluted. It's just like clear. Now, Sophie, you are
- 27:42Speaker 1: back from your honeymoon in Port Douglas. We were enjoying
- 27:45Speaker 1: the vlogs. I did give Brandon a little bit of
- 27:47Speaker 1: stick saying that he needed to get more involved. Yeah.
- 27:50Speaker 1: So these are TikTok vlogs. I feel like I've got
- 27:52Speaker 1: to finish them off because I've only done four days.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So maybe if more people start watching them, I have
- 27:57Speaker 1: to finish them off. I want to see them. But anyway,
- 28:00Speaker 1: I am the biggest fan of Port Douglas. I'm trying
- 28:02Speaker 1: to convince everyone to go there with me for a
- 28:04Speaker 1: group holiday next. It is incredible. It is stunning there.
- 28:08Speaker 1: It feels like you are in Hawaii, but still in Australia.
- 28:12Speaker 1: We hired a car and we were able to go
- 28:14Speaker 1: from our resort to the little town there. I became
- 28:18Speaker 1: best friends with a woman who runs the gift shop there. Oh,
- 28:21Speaker 1: my God. It is called, I think it's With Sugar
- 28:24Speaker 1: or something sugars. It's, oh, my God, I bought the
- 28:27Speaker 1: whole shop. Like, I love it. No wonder she loves you. Yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 1: it is just, Port Douglas is such a beautiful place
- 28:32Speaker 1: to go. Yeah, you kept telling us, you're like, oh,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I've decided that we're going to all do a big
- 28:35Speaker 1: family holiday there. And I was like, oh, how much
- 28:37Speaker 1: is the accommodation? And you mentioned the price. It wasn't
- 28:39Speaker 1: that bad. I was like, fuck it. Go overseas for
- 28:41Speaker 1: those prices. If so, it's paying for it. I mean,
- 28:44Speaker 1: why would I pay for you guys to come with me?
- 28:46Speaker 1: I think it was pretty on par with what you
- 28:48Speaker 1: pay to go to a resort. It was stunning. Like, fuck,
- 28:51Speaker 1: I wish I was still there. It was so nice.
- 28:54Speaker 1: My low of the week was an incident that happened
- 28:56Speaker 1: at Cairns Airport. Now... My husband is a bit of
- 29:00Speaker 1: an anxious traveler, even when it's interstate. He always looks
- 29:04Speaker 1: suspicious at airports just because he's worried about everything getting through.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I can confirm this, having traveled to Bali with him.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I've never actually had bags checked on the way back,
- 29:14Speaker 1: like into Australia, but he looked so nervous. It looks
- 29:17Speaker 1: like we had like 10 ton of wood in our
- 29:19Speaker 1: bloody bag. And he's literally like squeaky clean. Like, you know,
- 29:22Speaker 1: he's like a school prefect type vibes, like never do
- 29:25Speaker 1: anything wrong. Like, and so we were going through, you know,
- 29:27Speaker 1: when they have the scanners and you just walk through
- 29:29Speaker 1: this time, they had the body scan. Yeah. You had
- 29:31Speaker 1: to hold up. Like I literally felt like I was
- 29:33Speaker 1: getting a fake tan doing all these different movements. Anyway,
- 29:36Speaker 1: I went through no trouble. He then goes through and
- 29:39Speaker 1: gets pulled aside and the man said to him he
- 29:43Speaker 1: said something like um oh do you want to go
- 29:46Speaker 1: back here or can you take that i there was
- 29:48Speaker 1: some discussion and brandon thought that the man was asking
- 29:50Speaker 1: him to take his shirt off so he proceeded to
- 29:53Speaker 1: try and take his shirt off and the man's like No, no, no, no, no.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I just wanted to pat you down because you've showed
- 29:57Speaker 1: up on the scan, I think just because you're sweating.
- 30:00Speaker 1: So poor thing. Brandon was sweating through nerves from going
- 30:03Speaker 1: through security. Almost took his shirt off in front of her.
- 30:07Speaker 1: It was quite the ordeal. I am not surprised. I mean,
- 30:09Speaker 1: but surely a lot of people would be sweating in
- 30:11Speaker 1: Cairns Airport. Oh, it was bloody hot there. Everyone kept
- 30:15Speaker 1: telling me, oh, fuck, you're going to boil. Port Douglas
- 30:18Speaker 1: is so hot. It was like 32 degrees every day,
- 30:20Speaker 1: but a different type of 32. It was so humid,
- 30:24Speaker 1: but it was really nice. Well, my high of the
- 30:26Speaker 1: week is that we have finalized our Christmas series, which
- 30:29Speaker 1: will start airing next week. And I'm so excited to
- 30:33Speaker 1: finally share these interviews with you. So they are interviews
- 30:37Speaker 1: with some of our favorite influencers. And they're not just
- 30:39Speaker 1: about Christmas, but about things in general. We have asked
- 30:42Speaker 1: some Very interesting questions. I feel like the Daily Mail
- 30:45Speaker 1: need to listen because I'm sure they're going to write
- 30:47Speaker 1: some articles off what we have learned from some of
- 30:48Speaker 1: these influencers. Behind the scenes goss. There's a lot of
- 30:52Speaker 1: different opinions that these influencers have given us on different
- 30:54Speaker 1: scandals over the past year. So they really are must
- 30:57Speaker 1: listen episodes. We really did go there. And to be honest,
- 31:00Speaker 1: I was surprised that some of these influencers actually agreed
- 31:02Speaker 1: to be on our podcast because A lot of influencers
- 31:05Speaker 1: have blocked us in the past. Now, my low of
- 31:08Speaker 1: the week is I sat down, very excited to watch
- 31:11Speaker 1: a Christmas movie. I had the tree set up and
- 31:13Speaker 1: it was top rated on Netflix. It's got Chad Michael
- 31:16Speaker 1: Murray in it. And it's about this pub who put
- 31:19Speaker 1: on a male review. So like a strip Yeah, I
- 31:22Speaker 1: saw this ad. I thought this was meant to be
- 31:23Speaker 1: a good movie. Yeah, I thought everyone was saying how
- 31:25Speaker 1: good it was. It's fucking terrible. Rhys actually said, can
- 31:28Speaker 1: we please turn it off? It's pissing me off. But
- 31:29Speaker 1: it was a bit of eye candy to make it better.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I'm not surprised Rhys hated it. The advertisement was literally
- 31:34Speaker 1: just like a ripped Chad Michael Murray stripping. Yeah, a
- 31:36Speaker 1: couple of hotties stripping. I don't think it's supposed to
- 31:38Speaker 1: have a good plot. Okay, watch it and tell me
- 31:40Speaker 1: what you think because I couldn't handle it either because
- 31:43Speaker 1: I got to a point where I said to Rhys,
- 31:45Speaker 1: I didn't realise how bad at acting Chad Michael Murray is. Hate, hate.
- 31:49Speaker 1: He is not bad at acting. It was probably just
- 31:51Speaker 1: the fucking crap script. Every Christmas movie is bad though.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I feel like especially the new Netflix one, it's kind
- 31:58Speaker 1: of like the theme of these new Christmas movies. Yeah,
- 32:00Speaker 1: they're all low budget and low rent. Every one of
- 32:03Speaker 1: those movies starts with that the successful person is single
- 32:08Speaker 1: and then they have to go spend Christmas at home
- 32:10Speaker 1: with their parents. Like that is literally the plot of
- 32:12Speaker 1: every single one and then they fall in love with
- 32:14Speaker 1: someone out there. What's wrong with that? Like everyone needs
- 32:17Speaker 1: a bit of joy for Christmas. I want to watch
- 32:19Speaker 1: The Holiday. Have you guys seen that? Of course. I
- 32:21Speaker 1: said to Brandon because I said I think it's Holly
- 32:24Speaker 1: from Mamma Mia. She does this really cute thing with
- 32:26Speaker 1: her family where– They write down all of the Christmas
- 32:28Speaker 1: movies that they want to watch. They put them in
- 32:30Speaker 1: a jar and then each weekend they pick out a
- 32:32Speaker 1: new one. And I said, I want to watch the holiday.
- 32:34Speaker 1: And Brian's like, we're not watching that. Have you not
- 32:36Speaker 1: seen that before? Well, what was the other one he
- 32:38Speaker 1: didn't want? He didn't want to watch Love actually as well.
- 32:40Speaker 1: So maybe we'll have to have a girls movie night.
- 32:41Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I couldn't deal with that because my favorite
- 32:44Speaker 1: Christmas movies are the English Christmas movies. Well, that's all
- 32:47Speaker 1: we've got time for today. Thank you for listening to
- 32:50Speaker 1: another episode of Outspoken. Don't forget, if you want to
- 32:52Speaker 1: hear all about Amy's pregnancy news, then subscribe to Outspoken
- 32:56Speaker 1: Plus because we're doing a deep dive on there tomorrow.
