Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey, Hurdler's Emily A.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Baddi here bringing you the final episode of season three
- 0:28Speaker 2: Five Minute Friday, Wow Time Flies. Season three was the
- 0:34Speaker 2: first season where I implemented a twelve week kind of
- 0:38Speaker 2: production schedule, and it feels like it went by in
- 0:43Speaker 2: a complete breeze, but also like it lasted forever. I'm
- 0:47Speaker 2: sure that you know, being in the middle of a
- 0:49Speaker 2: global pandemic definitely has something to do with that. I usually,
- 0:55Speaker 2: as you know, come into these five minute Fridays having
- 0:58Speaker 2: a specific story to tell, a specific angle, so to speak.
- 1:03Speaker 1: But I figured that today I would.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Kind of just give you a little bit of a
- 1:08Speaker 2: recap and an honest insight into where I am after
- 1:14Speaker 2: the last three months.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Before I get.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Into that, I do want to take a moment to
- 1:19Speaker 2: thank my friends at Beam for sponsoring today's five Minute Friday.
- 1:25Speaker 2: If you have yet to hear about Beam, You've got
- 1:28Speaker 2: to listen up. Beam is a Boston based CBD company
- 1:32Speaker 2: that makes products that combine THHC free CBD with other
- 1:38Speaker 2: high quality ingredients. Founded by two ex professional athletes you
- 1:42Speaker 2: have heard from here on Hurdle before, Kevin and Matt.
- 1:46Speaker 2: They started the company with the idea that everyone should
- 1:50Speaker 2: have the chance to experience what better feels like, whether
- 1:55Speaker 2: you are sore or stressed. CBD can be key for
- 1:59Speaker 2: recovery and self care. I lately cannot get enough of
- 2:04Speaker 2: their Focus capsules. Not only do they have the THHC
- 2:08Speaker 2: free cbed powder, they've also got Lions Maine, Rodeola, Ashwagandha

- 2:48Speaker 2: I am still in this apartment.
- 2:51Speaker 1: You know I was. I was messaging a friend earlier today.
- 2:54Speaker 2: It's it's a hard time because so many of us
- 2:58Speaker 2: want to get on with our lives right. We want
- 3:02Speaker 2: to see our friends, see our family, do all these
- 3:06Speaker 2: different things. We've been in a global pandemic since March,
- 3:10Speaker 2: and it's frustrating for me to watch people live their
- 3:15Speaker 2: lives completely as though nothing's going on. I feel as
- 3:19Speaker 2: though some of these behaviors are definitely impacted by where
- 3:24Speaker 2: your geographic location might be. Being in a major city,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I can confidently say that a lot of us have
- 3:32Speaker 2: been taking the coronavirus pandemic very very seriously. And so
- 3:36Speaker 2: while now I might be able to see people I
- 3:39Speaker 2: care about more regularly in a safe and socially distant way,
- 3:43Speaker 2: I'm not traveling like I used to, I'm not galllevanting
- 3:46Speaker 2: like I used to, and it's hard for me to
- 3:48Speaker 2: see other people that are doing that. Okay, small coronavirus
- 3:53Speaker 2: related rant done. I think I'm just really paranoid at
- 3:57Speaker 2: the moment that we might go back into the way
- 3:59Speaker 2: that things were in April and the beginning of May,
- 4:02Speaker 2: and so I'm just, you know, manifesting positivity, trying to
- 4:06Speaker 2: keep my attitude upbeat and push forward and to be real,
- 4:11Speaker 2: I think that's kind of how I have been approaching
- 4:14Speaker 2: a lot of things in my life lately. I am
- 4:16Speaker 2: grateful because from an athletic point of view, I have
- 4:19Speaker 2: been kind of performing better and feeling better than I
- 4:23Speaker 2: have in a really long time, and of course when
- 4:27Speaker 2: you say sentences like that, something always tends to pop up.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So at the beginning of this week, I want to
- 4:35Speaker 2: say I sprained my toe, which sounds like such a silly,
- 4:39Speaker 2: little insignificant thing, but I sprang my toe, and I
- 4:43Speaker 2: noticed about late in the afternoon on Monday that it
- 4:46Speaker 2: started to bother me, and that was weird. I talked
- 4:51Speaker 2: to my friend that's an orthopedic surgeon at Yale, and
- 4:54Speaker 2: she said that she really didn't think that my toe
- 4:58Speaker 2: injury of sorts had anything to do with my recent
- 5:01Speaker 2: activity outside of maybe hitting it on something, because the
- 5:06Speaker 2: sprain came out of nowhere days after I had been active. Anyway,
- 5:14Speaker 2: I'm sitting in my apartment on Tuesday morning, after springing, springing,
- 5:20Speaker 2: springing my toe on Monday, and I have one of
- 5:25Speaker 2: those moments that if you've ever been injured, you know
- 5:27Speaker 2: it so well. You're sitting there and you're wondering what
- 5:30Speaker 2: you're capable of, and you're starting to get a little frustrated,
- 5:34Speaker 2: and I just shook it before it even got to
- 5:37Speaker 2: the point where it could grab a hold of me.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And I sat there and I took a deep breath,
- 5:43Speaker 2: and I said to myself that you have the power
- 5:45Speaker 2: to choose optimism, to stay positive, to move forward and
- 5:52Speaker 2: focus on the things that you can control instead of
- 5:54Speaker 2: freaking out about the littlest things that you cannot. And
- 5:58Speaker 2: so that's what I did. I went on a nice,
- 6:01Speaker 2: calm bike ride, didn't irritate my toe at all, and
- 6:06Speaker 2: went to my favorite coffee spot, and just as the
- 6:09Speaker 2: you know, the hours and the days went by this week,
- 6:12Speaker 2: I got more to a place of gratitude and less
- 6:15Speaker 2: to a place of anger. This little thing, like many
- 6:19Speaker 2: of the things, the hurdles that we deal with during
- 6:21Speaker 2: our day to day, it comes, it came, it will go.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I will move forward. And that's that again. I feel
- 6:30Speaker 2: like this attitude, this it's gonna be okay, Breathe through it.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Mentality.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I've been really leaning into it a lot lately, whether
- 6:38Speaker 2: it's with a lot of deadlines or trying to figure
- 6:41Speaker 2: out the best way to communicate effectively with my audience,
- 6:45Speaker 2: whether it's in my personal relationships and my professional relationships.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I am just at a point now after another three months,
- 6:53Speaker 2: where I'm excited about the opportunity and not letting the
- 6:57Speaker 2: hurdles be the reason that I I get overly worked
- 7:01Speaker 2: up or down on myself. I'm really focusing on the positives.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I'm focusing on the growth, and I'm remembering that with
- 7:10Speaker 2: hard work and time, you will see the positive fruits
- 7:15Speaker 2: of your labor. I feel like I'm rambling at this point.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So if you're still listening, thank you. And also if
- 7:21Speaker 2: you're listening and you can relate, I would love for
- 7:23Speaker 2: you to open your Instagram.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And shoot me a DM.
- 7:27Speaker 2: It's at Emily a Body and at Hurdle Podcast, and
- 7:30Speaker 2: let me know how have you been doing.
- 7:32Speaker 1: What's been going on for you?
- 7:34Speaker 2: Have you been able to when you hit these hurdles,
- 7:38Speaker 2: when you hit your own hurdles, focus on the positives,
- 7:42Speaker 2: because I know it can be hard.
- 7:43Speaker 1: So let's have a chat about that.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Highlights of the week, as always, links to all of
- 7:48Speaker 2: this goodness can be found in the show notes. I
- 7:51Speaker 2: do want to point out this week's weekly Hurdle newsletter
- 7:55Speaker 2: is packed full of exactly what you've been asking for.
- 7:59Speaker 2: You've been asking me for fall and winter running picks,
- 8:03Speaker 2: gear picks, sneakers, jackets, leggings, gloves, accessories, et cetera.

- 8:32Speaker 2: I got you. I am just here to offer you
- 8:36Speaker 2: a helping hand. Next up, watch an eighty nine year
- 8:40Speaker 2: old pizza delivery guy gets a twelve thousand dollars tip.
- 8:44Speaker 2: So there's this couple there on TikTok and there happens
- 8:48Speaker 2: to be an eighty nine year old pizza delivery guy
- 8:52Speaker 2: named Durlin that works at their local Papa John's. And
- 8:56Speaker 2: they don't love Papa John's pizza, but they love Durlin.
- 8:59Speaker 2: So I think after a while of this older gentleman
- 9:02Speaker 2: bringing them their pizza week after week, they started to wonder,
- 9:06Speaker 2: why is it that this guy is eighty nine and
- 9:08Speaker 2: delivering pizza Still, he shouldn't be working like this, So
- 9:11Speaker 2: they reached out to their TikTok community. They did a
- 9:15Speaker 2: fundraiser and the video that shows them handing Drlin a
- 9:20Speaker 2: twelve thousand dollars check. It literally brought me to tears,
- 9:24Speaker 2: it was so good. Listen Conan O'Brien needs a Friend
- 9:27Speaker 2: his podcast with Michelle Obama. I just I have the
- 9:31Speaker 2: biggest girl crush on Michelle Obama, and I love now
- 9:35Speaker 2: that she's in the podcasting space because she's showing up
- 9:38Speaker 2: on so many other individuals podcasts, so this one is
- 9:43Speaker 2: a must listen. She talks a lot about the importance
- 9:47Speaker 2: of voting. She talks a lot about what the coronavirus
- 9:50Speaker 2: pandemic has brought for her household and how they've been
- 9:54Speaker 2: handling this time her in Barack, and I just I
- 9:57Speaker 2: love listening to her talk.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I love her passion.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I think it's contagious, and I think you'll get a
- 10:02Speaker 2: good laugh out of hearing these two go at it.
- 10:05Speaker 2: And lastly, a read and then write in it. The
- 10:08Speaker 2: Heart Talk Journal fifty two Weeks of Self Love, self Care,
- 10:13Speaker 2: and Self Discovery by Cleo Wade. I love Cleoid's books,
- 10:17Speaker 2: I have all of them here, Heart Talk Where to Begin,
- 10:20Speaker 2: and so I was so amped to see that she
- 10:23Speaker 2: is releasing a special journal. I'm always trying to think
- 10:28Speaker 2: outside of the box, and these prompts look really promising,
- 10:31Speaker 2: so definitely, if you are into journaling, if you are
- 10:35Speaker 2: into doing that work that I love oh so much,
- 10:39Speaker 2: definitely give it a looxie. The last thing I am
- 10:42Speaker 2: going to shout out here, I've got a Handling Hurdle
- 10:44Speaker 2: Moment's Workshop this week, and if you have heard me
- 10:48Speaker 2: talk about this before you are considering taking it, I
- 10:51Speaker 2: cannot encourage you to do it enough. Every single individual
- 10:55Speaker 2: that has taken the Handling Hurdle Moments Workshop reaches out
- 11:00Speaker 2: to me and send so much gratitude because this is
- 11:04Speaker 2: a one of a kind experience. The Hurdle Moment's Workshop
- 11:07Speaker 2: is really about talking how to show up to challenge,
- 11:11Speaker 2: how to come out on the other side more optimistic,
- 11:15Speaker 2: more positive, and better handle the hurdles as they come.
- 11:19Speaker 2: This year, it's been full of them.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I know it.
- 11:22Speaker 2: I'm right there with you, and together in this workshop
- 11:26Speaker 2: you can connect with like minded individuals and really start
- 11:30Speaker 2: to get a better grasp on excellent techniques to brave
- 11:34Speaker 2: whatever else comes our way. And that's it for now.
