- 0:09Hello and welcome. You're listening to Galaxy
- 0:12Crashers, The Busted, and McFly podcast.
- 0:15The only podcast where the 2 worlds of Busted and McFly
- 0:17collide. Hosted by us 2 mums who love
- 0:20naughties, nostalgia and nonsense.
- 0:23I'm sham. And I'm Tay, and this week we've
- 0:26got super exciting episode coming up.
- 0:29But before we let you into all of that, we should probably
- 0:31catch up as we usually do. Shan, how are you this week?
- 0:35Oh yeah, yeah, I'm all right. Actually not been up to much
- 0:38really my life. That's a surprise.
- 0:39Phrase not been up to much. It was it was my mum's birthday
- 0:45this week so we took her out for a really nice lunch.
- 0:47Birthday bet. Oh I there we go.
- 0:49Happy birthday nanny hedgehog. I say.
- 0:52It was nice. We we were waiting for her for a
- 0:54while. So our car's gone in for its MOT
- 0:56and it's failed. Nice.
- 0:57So we don't have a car at the moment.
- 0:59So I had to get the bus in and I live in the like shit end of
- 1:03nowhere. So the buses are every three
- 1:05hours. So we were really early.
- 1:08So I took the girls for a really nice breakfast.
- 1:10We went to Boston Tea Party and had like I had like this whipped
- 1:13feta on avocado and sourdough. It was lovely.
- 1:16I saw the photo. Of this, it looked really yummy.
- 1:18It was phenomenal, it was so good.
- 1:21But then by the time mum got there no one was hungry so we
- 1:24just took her to Spoons. So we had this lovely, really
- 1:29nice fancy breakfast and then took mum for a jacket potato at
- 1:32Spoons. I mean, I love her spoons, so
- 1:35that's a win. Win.
- 1:36I know she. Yeah.
- 1:38Well, yeah, to be fair. But yeah, it was really nice.
- 1:41The kids love Nanny Hedgehog. They're like, obsessed with her.
- 1:45Yeah. And then apart from that, we've
- 1:48just been gardening really and and going on play dates.
- 1:50Isn't it really nice when you get on with your kids, friends,
- 1:55parents? Oh, absolutely.
- 1:57I mean, it's kind of the other way round for me.
- 1:59It's like my friends bring their kids and we force them to play
- 2:02together because Marley, so he's still so young.
- 2:06She doesn't have friends yet because she doesn't really,
- 2:08like, go to school or anything. So.
- 2:09Oh yeah. But yeah, I get it.
- 2:12I get it. How about you?
- 2:15What have you been up to? Not much really.
- 2:19I have had a little crystal market this, well, a market this
- 2:22weekend where I went to sell my crystals and I made a grand
- 2:24total of 2 lbs which was absolutely oh.
- 2:28Nice, breaking that money market.
- 2:31Oh yeah, see, this is happening to some.
- 2:33You lose them. Sometimes I do a market and I
- 2:35make like 6-7 hundred pounds. I think my best day I made 1200
- 2:38lbs in one day. And then you do others and you
- 2:41make 2 lbs. So it's just life balancing out,
- 2:43you know, giving and taking a little bit.
- 2:46But I went with a really good friend of mine.
- 2:48She's my crystal bestie. I call her, she's called Sophie.
- 2:50She is Puffin underscore rocks if anyone wants to check her
- 2:53out. She's fantastic.
- 2:55So it was lots of fun, but very little money coming in from it.
- 2:58But yeah, it was still a nice day.
- 3:00And then we had a little birthday party as well on the
- 3:03weekend, which was nice. Marley's friend Finley turned 2,
- 3:06so we went to the soft play which was fun for all of her and
- 3:10really other than that it was just like a really normal week.
- 3:12But this week is like so exciting because I'm off to see
- 3:15young blood on. Saturday.
- 3:16I'm so jealous. Joked about.
- 3:19I'm so jealous. Yes, so emo me is geared up and
- 3:23ready to go. I've ordered the corset, I've
- 3:25ordered the little choker with. Brat.
- 3:27Oh my God, look at you go. I was saying about I've got
- 3:30little chains to hang from my belt.
- 3:32I'm I'm in it, I'm in it, in it to win it.
- 3:34So yeah, a very exciting. I love that for you.
- 3:38But we should talk about this weekend, what's happening right
- 3:41now because we are so, so excited.
- 3:43We are joined by brand new tribute act this week and they
- 3:47celebrate one of the greatest naughties bands of all time 1 as
- 3:52well. Two Galaxy.
- 3:53Exactly. Please welcome to Galaxy crashes
- 3:56podcast, the busted experience. Hello, good guy.
- 4:00Hello, hello. How are you doing?
- 4:03All right. We are good, thank you.
- 4:05How are you? Great.
- 4:07Very well. Very well.
- 4:08Very excited to be here. Thanks for having us.
- 4:09Yay. Oh.
- 4:10So happy to have you and it's really nice because we've had
- 4:13the McFly side of tribute acts. Now we get the Busted side.
- 4:16Nobody can say that we love one band more.
- 4:18Than the best side. Yeah, well, the best.
- 4:22You've had the rest. Now meet the best.
- 4:26I'm joking. Obviously, obviously.
- 4:30So if this is your, this is your chance to introduce yourself,
- 4:33tell us who you are. Tell us a little bit about your
- 4:36band, how the band started, and, yeah, a little bit about what
- 4:39you've been up to. OK, well, I'm, I'm Matt.
- 4:43I am essentially I'm Charlie in the busted experience.
- 4:48Mr Simpson. That's the one, yeah.
- 4:51And I'm Jay. I'm James Bourne of the band.
- 4:55And then we've got Jake who plays Matt is not here at the
- 5:00moment, but yes, so the three of us.
- 5:02And then we have actually got a permanent drummer, which we will
- 5:05shout out woo Hoo. So his his name's Rich and yeah,
- 5:10and he is very, very good. Just.
- 5:12As we call him at the shows, Richard.
- 5:14Richard, yeah, he's, yeah, He's just as if, just as just as, if
- 5:20not more important than us, probably.
- 5:23He's a wicked drummer. Yeah, really good.
- 5:25So and the. Band needs a drummer.
- 5:27They do. They do.
- 5:28He's and busted. Definitely.
- 5:31And actually the setlist that I've got on my wall behind me
- 5:33was handed to me by the the Busted drummer at the gig, which
- 5:37I absolutely loved. He was.
- 5:38There we go. Eddie Thrower.
- 5:40Eddie Thrower? What A drummer, Yeah.
- 5:41He came over to me and was like handed me.
- 5:43He pointed at me and then gave the the set list to the security
- 5:48guard and he like made sure I had it.
- 5:50So, you know, obviously, I'm sure.
- 5:51That he's in love with the I'm sure that the 10 year old girl
- 5:54who he was actually pointing out wasn't disappointed at all.
- 5:57When you took me. Stole it off the security guard.
- 6:00Have you framed it? Snatched it off.
- 6:03I I didn't. Frame she has.
- 6:04Already in. It's in like a gaffer tape, but
- 6:06it's behind me and it's just stuck to the wall.
- 6:08Yeah, I love it. It's absolutely great.
- 6:10It was a great sat there. So yeah, why not love it looks
- 6:14like. Great songs.
- 6:15Yeah, they were. It was an amazing show, but
- 6:17we'll get to that because we'll talk a little bit about that
- 6:19later on. So my first question for you
- 6:21guys is how did the band start? Sort of Why did you choose
- 6:25Busted? What sort of made it all come
- 6:27about? Carl, there's a you're going to
- 6:30have to condense. Yeah, to condense this one.
- 6:33Right, I'll, I'll try and make this Long story short.
- 6:37You get like, but I've I I was the one who basically started
- 6:42the band. I'm James Bond of this, But when
- 6:45I originally started, I wanted to be the bass player and I
- 6:50actually spent I I spent probably about four years trying
- 6:54to find members and for some reason no one wanted to do
- 6:58busted. So then I.
- 7:02I know. Yeah, so and then I, I was in
- 7:06another band at the time. We was just doing like emo
- 7:08covers and I was a drummer in that band because I was getting
- 7:14so bored of being behind the kit.
- 7:17I wanted to be at the front. I started taking my acoustic
- 7:20guitar to the shows and started doing things in between the
- 7:25breaks. And then I'd done the song Meet
- 7:29You There. And I was like, what if, what if
- 7:32I go on guitar and try and try and find a bass player and
- 7:36everything. And then, yeah, found a bass
- 7:38player, went through a few members and everything.
- 7:41And then when the the when the original bass player started two
- 7:47years later, we now have the proper line up and I couldn't be
- 7:50more happier. Oh nice.
- 7:52That for you, I love that wasn't wasn't one of the wasn't one of
- 7:58the the McFly boys in your band originally?
- 8:02Yeah, so Sam played drums originally and then he's
- 8:07defected. So but yeah.
- 8:11And it's yeah. And so from my from my point of
- 8:14view as well, it was so I basically saw an advert on like
- 8:18join my band and I'd wanted to do, I'd wanted to do something
- 8:21like this for for ages. I actually put on, I put on AI
- 8:25put on a gig for my son's birthday when he was 8 and did
- 8:30some McFly, McFly and busted covers with some friends, like
- 8:34with friends of mine who I'm in another band with and they and
- 8:38that just kind of got me that kind of got me that I was like,
- 8:40I'd love to do that. I reckon it'd be really good
- 8:41fun. And yeah, it just so it
- 8:43happened, saw the advert, answered the advert came along
- 8:46for the audition and then what was it?
- 8:474 weeks later We played, we played the first show like, like
- 8:52with me with me and it sort of thing.
- 8:54And then it's gone on from there.
- 8:55And yeah, we've, we've really like sort of solidified the line
- 8:59up sort of more recently, but we're 100 percent, 100% and
- 9:05it's, yeah, it's really, really, it's really, really game places.
- 9:07So yeah, we're really excited. Nice, I love it.
- 9:11I absolutely love it. We we check out your socials a
- 9:13lot. We we I'm trying to be better on
- 9:16TikTok. This is where I find you guys
- 9:17most of your content on TikTok because we're rubbish at TikTok,
- 9:20but we really do try. It's a wonderful video.
- 9:23I think it was who's who's David you were doing in your video
- 9:26that you posted today. Is that right?
- 9:28That's right, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:29Love that. Absolutely love that.
- 9:31And I was like in a public place.
- 9:32I had it in my ear and I was just like listening to it
- 9:34through the speaker of my phone. Just started.
- 9:37Singing so bad. Did you?
- 9:38Yeah, it's joined in. I can't help it.
- 9:41I literally can't help myself. So one of our other questions,
- 9:44Shan, do you want to ask the next one?
- 9:47Oh yeah. So what was your first ever like
- 9:50busted memory or gig that you've been to?
- 9:56They can start this because he's he's OG.
- 9:58Well, the first band I ever saw, the first band I ever saw live
- 10:03was Busted with Real Instruments because before then, before then
- 10:08it was like blazing squads. And yeah, that was the first
- 10:15band I saw. And then, I don't know, I've
- 10:18just loved Busted ever since, so.
- 10:22So. Much and I are.
- 10:24Day daughters so. Yeah.
- 10:27And so I got into, I got into sort of late, weirdly, the first
- 10:32time I saw Charlie play play guitar was actually when I was
- 10:36at uni. And just as he, just after he
- 10:40left busted obviously he started up Fight Star and they happened
- 10:44to be playing down in Portsmouth, in Portsmouth where
- 10:46I was at university. And yeah and so I went to their
- 10:49first tour and saw him there. But then, well, just just
- 10:52generally had an interest in the songs for for ages really.
- 10:55And obviously when they're not around, you listen to them more,
- 10:58don't you? Do you know what I mean?
- 10:59It was such a what feels like forever feels like ages that
- 11:02they weren't there. And then, yeah, then the MC
- 11:06Busted thing happened. And I thought about getting
- 11:08tickets to the tour and didn't. And then they announced that
- 11:10Hyde Park show. So I said to my wife, I was
- 11:12like, right, we're going. And we went to that.
- 11:14And that that that was that was the start of it, really.
- 11:17And I've seen them a fair few times since then.
- 11:21I got to go to when they did the they did the when they released
- 11:25halfway there, they did some release shows at the 100 Club in
- 11:29London and it was like 2 hundreds, 200 people.
- 11:34And it was like I think they did, they ended up doing like 3
- 11:36shows or something, but it was about 200 people in there.
- 11:38And we got to go to we managed to get tickets to one of them,
- 11:40which was which was wiki. It was like they were.
- 11:43Everyone went on the stage, no. No, no.
- 11:46But it was one of them. Like no phones, you can't have
- 11:48anything because they were playing new songs and things
- 11:50like that. So really, really cool.
- 11:52That's so cool. So cool.
- 11:54So my next question for you is why Busted?
- 11:57I know you said that you both, you both like the band, you're
- 11:59both sort of early, you know you like them from early on, but why
- 12:03Busted was were there ever, were there ever any talks about any
- 12:07other kind of tribute band or every any other sort of bands
- 12:10that you liked that you thought would work well tribute wise or
- 12:13has it always been Busted? I just from my point of view,
- 12:16it's, it's a really weird one. I've been in like original bands
- 12:19since like for years and, and actually probably there was a
- 12:23time when I would have been like, no, I never want to be in
- 12:25a in a tribute band or a cover band or anything like that,
- 12:28because I never thought I'd get the same like that, that buzz of
- 12:31obviously playing music to people, especially when it's
- 12:33then your music was what was what I was what I sort of
- 12:37really. And I, and I obviously I still
- 12:38do that now and I still really enjoy that sort of things that,
- 12:41but weirdly I, yeah, I just, I enjoy playing this.
- 12:45I enjoy listening to the songs. I enjoy playing the songs.
- 12:47And then The thing is, it's what's what you find interesting
- 12:50is you know that people are going to know the songs.
- 12:54The key really is to get them engaged.
- 12:57And that I love that. I kind of really, I really enjoy
- 12:59the challenge. So when you're in an original
- 13:02band and you're going out and playing in a in a pub or
- 13:04something, not only have you got to hope that people are going to
- 13:06stay and watch, you've also got to try and convince them that
- 13:08songs they don't know they can get involved with, they're not
- 13:11there. To see the band, are they?
- 13:13No, it's just totally different situations.
- 13:15Whereas whereas with, with this as well, it's like, well, you
- 13:18can just like, you know, they're going to know the songs because
- 13:21they come, they come to watch. You've just got to try and get
- 13:23them involved. And I, I quite enjoy that, that
- 13:26sort of challenge. It's it's probably where we
- 13:29divert slightly from, you know, the sort of the busted tribute
- 13:33thing. And we're, we're a little bit, I
- 13:35guess put our own spin on it to some degree and I'll get it.
- 13:38I'll get in the crowds. I'll, you know, I'll get people
- 13:40to get off their seats and, and, you know, and you know, that
- 13:43sort of thing. And it's.
- 13:44You bring the energy, it's pretty.
- 13:45Chaos. We try to, we try to make it a
- 13:47party. Yeah.
- 13:48Rather than like, you know, there are some situations like
- 13:52where the band, you're the crowds, like sit there and
- 13:55watch. Stand there and watch, yeah?
- 13:57Absolutely. We're not like that.
- 13:58We're like, you know, we love that the stage big enough, we'll
- 14:01get everyone on the stage A. 100%.
- 14:03I love that. That's so cool.
- 14:04Yeah. That sounds right up our street.
- 14:07I think we definitely need to get a show, a show visit
- 14:09organised and it just sounds too.
- 14:11Fun for this. You won't get Taylor off it.
- 14:14You won't get Taylor off the stage.
- 14:15Don't invite that. I love it.
- 14:17That's fine. Yeah, that's fine.
- 14:19I could do in a break every once in a while if you want to come
- 14:20and sing something. Absolutely.
- 14:23And you know, I know all the words, so don't panic.
- 14:26And the drummer will. Be a cowbell.
- 14:27As well. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:32And also so another question is what's your favourite busted
- 14:36song slash member? What's your favourite member and
- 14:38why? Why are they your favourite song
- 14:40and or member? Go, Jay.
- 14:42You go first, Jay. My favourite song would be got
- 14:49what it's called. Brilliant.
- 14:51Good start. You want to start that one
- 14:52again. You love that song.
- 14:55Reunion. Reunion.
- 14:57I love reunion. I love Reunion and I'll tell you
- 15:01what sucks such. A good album.
- 15:02Like that? Well, I'll tell you what sucks
- 15:04about songs like that, right? Yeah, is and I, I genuinely feel
- 15:08like a song like that, unless a hardcore Busted fan are at the
- 15:13shows, the general public or the average person's not gonna know
- 15:17that they. Won't know it, no.
- 15:19You're so right. The Travis, me and Shannon have
- 15:21had this. We've had this conversation
- 15:23about 90s because I love 90s. I think it's such a good song
- 15:27and Shannon doesn't rate it at all.
- 15:30So when we get to that album. Shannon, you can leave the call
- 15:32now if you want that's. Fine, I know, right?
- 15:34Someone. That knows what they're talking
- 15:35about, Sheree. Found my new Co host Shannon.
- 15:38So that's it. Done.
- 15:41Yeah, When 90S comes round, just give me a call.
- 15:42I'll be there. So good, such a good song.
- 15:46It's definitely one of my. Favourites I can Reunion.
- 15:49I feel like Reunion is one of those songs where like, even if
- 15:53people don't know it, like, you know, if it makes your bum
- 15:56wiggle, it's a good change. Oh.
- 15:59So good, absolutely love that. There's a friend of a bum
- 16:02wiggle. Do you know what?
- 16:07On this podcast, sometimes things come out your mouth you
- 16:09just wouldn't expect and there. You go, it makes you bum wiggle.
- 16:12Jay Wilding, 2026, That's what's going on there.
- 16:16OK, Matt, what's your favourite busted?
- 16:18Song Oh, do you know what my my favourite song is?
- 16:22Thunderbirds. And I know that that can be a
- 16:25controversial one because people are like.
- 16:27Taylor loves that song, but. I absolutely do.
- 16:30You hate it, I. Hate it.
- 16:32That's probably my way, no? Travesty.
- 16:35Yeah, sorry guys. Should we just.
- 16:37I know. Should we just cut?
- 16:38I know why he. I know why he loves that song.
- 16:40Why? Is it because you love
- 16:42Thunderbirds movie? Yeah, because in busted songs
- 16:45there's not many chances to do guitar solos.
- 16:48Yeah, and I do do that this. Guitar solo in it.
- 16:51That's me, yeah. So it's all about me.
- 16:52Look at me, everyone. Look at me.
- 16:54Yeah. I, I, I always love that.
- 16:56I always love that song. I actually, I genuinely think
- 16:58it's a it's a, it's got a really a really cool chorus with it.
- 17:02And and I have to say, I suppose now, now that it's taken on the
- 17:05different sort of side for us, I think it's one of the most fun
- 17:09ones to play as well. And so I think that's and that's
- 17:12really that's really then giving it.
- 17:14And The thing is as well, even though people don't always know
- 17:17it, they know Thunderbirds as in the concept, so they kind of
- 17:22recognise it as well. So but yeah, I've just always
- 17:24really liked it. I always thought it was a great
- 17:25song the first time I heard it and it and it hasn't changed.
- 17:27So yeah, I really enjoyed. That I agree with you.
- 17:30When you've got the older people there, yeah, that don't know
- 17:33busted, they're gonna know Thunderbirds.
- 17:36It's just gonna take them. They.
- 17:37Don't know that. Yeah.
- 17:38Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I think for me, I rate it live.
- 17:42I love it live. And we do this when we rate our
- 17:45songs. We always give it like a a CD
- 17:47rating and then like a live show rating.
- 17:49And all the live show ratings are 10 out of 10 because they're
- 17:51always 10 nominal live. I just I think, I think.
- 17:55One of those skip songs for me, but it's not a bad song.
- 17:58It's just not so I think the I think the 2.0 recorded version
- 18:01is better than the original version.
- 18:03What with McFly on the. No, no, no, the like the no,
- 18:08just the one, just the one where they re recorded it.
- 18:10I just think. That's one of the arguments we
- 18:12always have is I really like the old versions, he really likes
- 18:16the new versions. OK.
- 18:19So I'll be like, oh, this goes like this.
- 18:20Jay, we we do this one. He goes no, actually if you
- 18:23listen to the 2004 version, it doesn't do that.
- 18:25I'm like, what's your opinion on the, what's your opinion on the
- 18:28re, the re recording of meet you there?
- 18:30Because they made that like a bit heavier, didn't they?
- 18:33That is wicked. Yeah, it's it's really cool.
- 18:35We love playing that one. We've actually talked about as
- 18:38well peek behind the curtain. We have talked about doing a
- 18:41version where we blend the two together.
- 18:44We might start and do like the first verse and chords off of.
- 18:47The Abbey Road version. Yeah, like the piano version.
- 18:50Oh. My God, stop.
- 18:52That's so we do like we do piano and acoustic, yeah.
- 18:55Oh my favourite of all time. My favourite.
- 18:57We haven't got there yet, but my favourite Busted song of all
- 18:59time is the Abbey Road Meet You There 110%.
- 19:02I would rank it above any other Busted song.
- 19:05So doing that, absolutely, I'm there for it.
- 19:07I wish I could play piano. Should be there should be on the
- 19:09stage with the cowbell the. Piano.
- 19:14Yeah, yeah, that over the over the Abbey Road version, just
- 19:16like really nice quiet piano, acoustic guitar Taylors in their
- 19:20gang, gang, gang, gang, gang, gang, gang.
- 19:22May well may I'm up for. It shows all about everyone
- 19:26having a good time, so is that. There we go.
- 19:30Sign me up. Yeah.
- 19:34It's time for this or that. If you're new here, where have
- 19:38you been? This is the section where we
- 19:40throw ridiculous choices at each other and our guests and nobody
- 19:43gets any time to prepare. So guys this if you've listened
- 19:47to the podcast, which I know you guys have, you'll know a little
- 19:49bit about how we do this or that.
- 19:51We usually try and give each other one a week, but we've
- 19:53chosen live for you, which we're very excited about.
- 19:56We've gone for Busted and we've gone for sort of some of them
- 19:59are songs, some of them are more general.
- 20:02OK, we're going to take a turn and I want you to trust your
- 20:05gut. Go with your first instinct,
- 20:07don't think too much about it, and then we can discuss after.
- 20:10Sound good? Yeah.
- 20:13OK, super. OK.
- 20:15So my first one is year 3000 air Hostess.
- 20:19Air Hostess. Year 3000.
- 20:22Oh, difference in opinion. Love that.
- 20:24We'll talk about that later. Next Sunshine.
- 20:27OK what I go to school for or crush the wedding.
- 20:31Crush the wedding. What I go to school for?
- 20:35I love. This is why, This is why you get
- 20:38the full Busted experience, because we between us, we like
- 20:41all the songs. It's fine.
- 20:43That's what we need. OK, love that next one.
- 20:46Three choices here. So it's this, that, or another.
- 20:50It is Team Charlie, Team Matt or Team James.
- 20:55Charlie. James Yeah.
- 20:58I love that. I mean, you just call yourself a
- 21:00loser, Team James. Loser.
- 21:03Brilliant, yeah. Perfect.
- 21:05Obvious answers for the guys that you play in the band.
- 21:07Love it, Shannon. I love that old school spiky
- 21:11hair busted or like night driver era busted.
- 21:16I I literally every question you asked, I know we're both going
- 21:19to say the other one. So Sanjay, you say the one that
- 21:23you think? Old school spiky.
- 21:25And I will be the night driver apologist and say I love Night
- 21:28Driver so sign me up. Thank you.
- 21:32Yeah, good album. Absolutely.
- 21:34OK, last one. Rusted ballads or chaotic punk
- 21:39ballads. Try again.
- 21:42Rusted ballads or chaotic pop punk bangers?
- 21:47Chaotic pop punk bangers. It's a mouthful.
- 21:50Isn't it Yay? One out of five, but I love
- 21:55that. Amazing.
- 21:55We didn't. Fail.
- 21:57We just had a no. No, no, just agree.
- 21:59Not the same. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:01I'll agree. To disagree, love that.
- 22:03Let's talk. Let's talk about those answers.
- 22:06So year 3000 or air Hostess, you both chose differently, which is
- 22:09amazing. Shannon, what would you have
- 22:10chosen? Year 3000.
- 22:16Such a hard 1 isn't it? I'm also year 3000 girl for
- 22:20breasted women. I will say I'm not.
- 22:22A fan I'm not a fan of. Go girls, you're not a fan of
- 22:27air Hostess? Did you just say?
- 22:29I don't think I'm a fan of either of those songs, really.
- 22:32Growing penis down the aisle What on earth?
- 22:34What, why? Why do?
- 22:36Not sorry. If you came to one of our shows
- 22:39though, yeah, it would change your.
- 22:40It would completely change. Hey hey live Every every song is
- 22:4510 out of 10 live. Every song is 10 out of 10 live.
- 22:49It's the album. It's the album.
- 22:51I think they're like, they're a bit more like Mickey and like
- 22:54fun and like silly songs, aren't they?
- 22:55Whereas like Busted do have a lot of those, but they also have
- 22:59a lot of songs that like are a bit more meaningful.
- 23:01But I love the like Mickey side of it.
- 23:03I think it's fun. OK, next one was what I go to
- 23:06school for or crash the wedding. Shannon, what would you have
- 23:08chosen there? What I go to school for?
- 23:12See, with versus, I'm crush the wedding, girl, absolutely crush
- 23:15the wedding. I'm with you, Matt.
- 23:16I'm with you at last I've. Got someone that agrees?
- 23:20I love crush the wedding. So good, so much fun, and so
- 23:23silly and like. Lyrically fun?
- 23:26Great. Song.
- 23:27It's good. It's a good song.
- 23:29Absolutely. But equally, what I go to school
- 23:33for is very, very nostalgic and very much like, hold on, the
- 23:38first. Well, I would be old version
- 23:41because I'm I'm old school. I love all the old ones.
- 23:46OK. I think for me, seeing them in
- 23:48their school uniform, like we were also in our school uniform
- 23:52at like the same time. So like we were definitely a few
- 23:55years younger, obviously, but we were looking at them like the
- 23:58cool older boys that they were. We just wanted to be part of the
- 24:02gang. So I think that was it.
- 24:04That was why I love the old school version.
- 24:06Really wanted to be cool. We were not cool.
- 24:09Let's, let's make that very clear.
- 24:11We we were not cool. Okay, ever see, have you ever
- 24:14seen interviews on Busted? They talked about the outfits
- 24:18they were originally was gonna wear in there and what James
- 24:21describes sounds ridiculous. And he was.
- 24:24Like Oh my God, I need to find not.
- 24:25Wearing that. Really.
- 24:28I need to find this interview. I love that.
- 24:30We'll have to we'll have to locate that one, Shan, because
- 24:32that sounds like a good one. The next one, obviously for you
- 24:36guys playing your individual people in the band, obviously it
- 24:38was quite easy for you to answer.
- 24:40So Matt, obviously team Charlie J, team James Shannon, you are
- 24:46team Matt, but team Matt all the way like.
- 24:50Team Matt all the way. I love it.
- 24:53We love Matt Willis. I'm very much team James Bourne.
- 24:56I just think he's the lyrical genius.
- 24:58I just think he is. There is no busted without James
- 25:02and obviously with the tour last year.
- 25:04He's he's very unwell at the moment, as we all know and it's
- 25:07just so sad and it's getting. Better.
- 25:10Well, from new updates, we know that something's in in the in
- 25:14the works and that hopefully he's getting better seen, but
- 25:16it's just not the same without him.
- 25:17They did a very, very good job of keeping that tour together
- 25:20without him, but it just it wasn't the same.
- 25:23Yeah, I'm definitely A-Team James girl.
- 25:25I love old school spiky hair. Busted.
- 25:28And also, can we remember Matt's like Purple He had?
- 25:32Didn't he have like plaible tips at one point?
- 25:35I thought the changes address the elephant in the room.
- 25:38Matt Williams had some of the the first hairstyles you've ever
- 25:41seen on a human just. Like like because James was the
- 25:46first Karen. James.
- 25:47Was. Wrong.
- 25:48Yeah, true, James. Was wrong.
- 25:49He was the first Karen. I always, I always look back
- 25:53when they did, when they did Mcbusted.
- 25:55I always wonder when the Matt Willis looked at it and goes,
- 25:57I'm 32 or whatever he was at the time and I've just had my hair
- 26:01done as a leopard and you think. It was green as well at one
- 26:05point, wasn't. It green, he's had streaks
- 26:07through it. When I saw him at Hyde Park he
- 26:09had some random blue streaks shaved into it and.
- 26:12That's but maybe that's why for it 'cause you remember all of
- 26:14them. But it's true exactly.
- 26:16Exactly, Yeah. I'm so here for it.
- 26:19I'm late for the colourful hair and I also really appreciated
- 26:23Tom's blue hair when he had his blue hair after that mcbusted.
- 26:26Girl. Oh yeah, I was.
- 26:28From McFly. I absolutely loved that love a
- 26:30bit but. Watched the I watched when he
- 26:32used to do do all the vlogging and stuff and I watched a couple
- 26:34of that and I watched him that that one where he actually put
- 26:37the the blue hair looked I just expected him to have like a
- 26:41massive blue hair. Or something like that.
- 26:43It was very bright. It was crazy.
- 26:47I loved it. I'm here for it.
- 26:49So I'm definitely old school spiky hair.
- 26:50Shannon, I imagine you're the same.
- 26:52I can't imagine your night. Driving around I'm exactly the
- 26:54same I I love a present for everyone.
- 26:57It's one of my favourite albums of all time.
- 26:59Great album. Yeah, I think it is brilliant.
- 27:02It's in my top five, probably my top five albums genuinely of all
- 27:05time. I just think, I think I my take
- 27:09on the Night Driver stuff because we've spoken about it
- 27:11before, haven't we, about whether or not we'd look at
- 27:13doing any of any of those sort of songs.
- 27:16In the setlist. And, and, and, and I, I just
- 27:19think as an album, I think it's a really great, it's a really
- 27:23great album. I don't necessarily know that it
- 27:25is. It's what people associate with
- 27:27Busted. Yeah, definitely.
- 27:29But I just think if you listen like from the beginning to end,
- 27:33if you just take it as like almost like a piece of music,
- 27:37it's in my opinion, it's undeniable.
- 27:39It's brilliant, but it's not. It's never going to have the
- 27:42energy. And I have to say, when I saw
- 27:44them on that tour, it was actually at times quite jarring.
- 27:48They play like air Hostess, be jumping around and then they
- 27:51play night driver and you go, alright, I'll sit down for this
- 27:54one then, shall I? Do you know what I mean?
- 27:55It was that sort of, but I think.
- 27:56I went to the night driver tour as well.
- 27:58I completely agree with that, yeah.
- 28:00It was definitely still really good, obviously still.
- 28:02Good, I just. Think it's still good?
- 28:04Yeah. I just think it's.
- 28:05But I love the I love the album. I think as an album, it's it's,
- 28:08it's amazing, but you can almost take it out of the catalogue
- 28:11can. You.
- 28:11Yeah, I think it was very much like a mixture of James's sound
- 28:17and Charlie sound. And it was when Charlie sort of
- 28:20came back in and like put all of his creative stuff back into the
- 28:24band and they were sort of trying to go with a different
- 28:27vibe that it worked really well for that specific type.
- 28:30But for fans that have been day dot fans, it wasn't the music
- 28:34that we were we were wanting from them, which is why when
- 28:37they're Meet You Halfway there album came out.
- 28:41Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, we're on the same way.
- 28:43But yeah, exactly. I honestly think you think as
- 28:46well the the the the muck Busted album could have easily been the
- 28:52Busted album that wasn't, you know what I mean?
- 28:55As in because I think it kind of it kind of follows the same.
- 28:58It follows if you go from like present for everyone.
- 29:00If you then did the muck Busted album, those songs would have
- 29:03made sense within the Busted cattle.
- 29:04So good as it was. Yeah.
- 29:06So air guitar the key. To that as well, is that the
- 29:10Muck Busted album? Quite a few of the songs on the
- 29:12Muck Busted album were actually written by James way before Sid
- 29:16came together, so I think that's a key thing as well.
- 29:19When James had his, I can remember James futureboyborn.com
- 29:23or futureboyborn.com, and I used to go on there and listen to his
- 29:28MP threes from my computer. Yeah, I didn't have the same
- 29:31downloads. Yeah.
- 29:33And that those songs were on there.
- 29:35I remember those songs being on there.
- 29:37On on YouTube as well, if you search better than I'm sure you
- 29:40have, I'm sure you've delved in, but on YouTube, there's a
- 29:43there's a demo of one-of-a-kind from night driver when it's just
- 29:47James and it's. So.
- 29:49He's written, he's written the whole thing already, didn't he?
- 29:51And I know that is it. Get Get over It.
- 29:55That was meant to be on Mcfly's sixth album that they didn't do.
- 30:00They've written that. They've written that already.
- 30:02See. I love Get over it.
- 30:03That's a great song. He also did Beautiful Girls of
- 30:06the lonely. Beautiful Girls of the Loneliest
- 30:08came from James's future boy born background thing as well.
- 30:12And what was the other one? Shannon, can you remember?
- 30:15It was what happened to your band.
- 30:16Be done with Son of Dork. What happened to your band?
- 30:18Yes, that was it. That was it.
- 30:20So we're hoping, because obviously there's not as many
- 30:22Busted albums as there are McFly albums.
- 30:25We're hoping that when we get to those points, we'll be able to
- 30:28do bit of Son of Dork, bit of Fight Star.
- 30:30Yeah. You know, and like Matt Matt
- 30:33Willis's solo I love lasted all of what, like 2 songs?
- 30:36Hey, leave my Willis. Hey, crossing line with
- 30:39powerless, we'll just play cameras.
- 30:41Was 10 out of 10. Yeah, we know you don't like
- 30:44Charlie. OK, I've got over it.
- 30:45Move on. You know, that's fine.
- 30:46We love Charlie. I love Charlie Simpson.
- 30:49I love Fightstar. I love President.
- 30:52I love Charlie Simpson. I think he's a legend.
- 30:54What is? He, I think he's great.
- 30:56Oh my God, did you not know? Did you not?
- 31:01See them? Australian Sydney, Yeah.
- 31:03You just ruined it for everything, yeah.
- 31:06OK, they need to be more careful if they want to keep themselves
- 31:08secret. Don't go to Australia's busiest
- 31:10airport with president stickers on your back.
- 31:13Also, maybe don't have the most recognisable voice in life.
- 31:16Yeah, he's got. Sarah yeah, Pete behind the
- 31:19curtain. My friend was in Australia when
- 31:21they were on tour in Australia and he went to see them at their
- 31:24only headline show they did which was in a pub in Melbourne
- 31:28and when they walked through the pub they all had the masks on.
- 31:32Oh, they committed it. They.
- 31:33Committed it 100%. But obviously not at the
- 31:36airport. I'll do that at the airport.
- 31:38Security with your president mask?
- 31:40Yeah. Exactly.
- 31:41Yeah, exactly. Gross.
- 31:43Yeah, I get it. Opens his passport.
- 31:45He's just got the president mask on.
- 31:46It's me. I mean, there would be some
- 31:49questions. Let's just leave it there.
- 31:54So we've been hyping you guys up on our socials this week and our
- 31:57listeners have a few very important questions for you.
- 32:00Yes, indeed. So we thought we would do a
- 32:03special Busted experience question corner.
- 32:06So that's our segmentation, right?
- 32:10So we're going to just sort of like, again, fire them off, but
- 32:12don't feel like you have to do too much explaining.
- 32:15Just give us a few like brief explanations.
- 32:18Otherwise, again, this, like you said, it will be a six part
- 32:20episode. Not that that's a bad thing, but
- 32:22the first question is what's your favourite Busted song to
- 32:25perform live? It has to dream reunion.
- 32:34Oh, love that. And I would say Thunderbirds or
- 32:37who's David? Ah OK, so similar to your actual
- 32:41favourite songs. Nice, nice.
- 32:44OK, cool, nice. Next one I love.
- 32:47That so which member do you most channel on stage do?
- 32:54You think it's your member? This is an easy one because like
- 32:59I do generally feel like everyone in the band kind of
- 33:03has, like they naturally kind of fall into place how the original
- 33:09member is if that makes. Sense.
- 33:12So like, we're not actually trying to be.
- 33:16We're not trying to be. There be there So.
- 33:18Happens to be. We kind of all have the same.
- 33:21Yeah, I'm tall and I've got eyebrows.
- 33:23Yeah, Like, you know, and it's like, you know, I'm sure you've
- 33:26seen videos of like, them playing live when like the way
- 33:30James just walks about and does silly stuff like.
- 33:32Yeah, I just naturally. Do that's you because.
- 33:34I just. Oh, no, that's amazing, though.
- 33:37You don't even need to put it on.
- 33:38Yeah, no, that's good. So you channel those, those
- 33:41members, but without even having to like, think about it, that's
- 33:43just who you are. On stage a little bit I.
- 33:45Love that, that's awesome. Amazing.
- 33:48OK, favourite Busted album and not too many to choose from, but
- 33:52there's a couple. I'm going to surprise you here.
- 33:56From. The halfway album.
- 33:58Halfway there, yeah. It's halfway there.
- 34:01Mine would be a present for everyone.
- 34:04Nice. Love that.
- 34:05Good choices, good choices. 10 out of 1010 out of 10 favourite
- 34:09deep cut. I don't know what count.
- 34:17I mean, what counts as a deep cut?
- 34:18I would say like losing you without you.
- 34:22Everything I knew is. Probably quite a deep.
- 34:25Cut. I like when the day turns into
- 34:28night. Yes, great.
- 34:31We just got we. That was last week's episode.
- 34:33Well, our last Busted episode was When Day Turns.
- 34:36You know you've listened to it. Yeah, we love that.
- 34:39Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:40So yeah, no, but I think that's, I think it's a really a really
- 34:43cool song. Cool, meet you there.
- 34:46The acoustic Grove is so good. Yeah, yeah, I am 10 out of 10
- 34:50here for that. Not that good choices.
- 34:53Amazing. What do you think is their most
- 34:55underrated song? I'm going to go.
- 34:58I'm going to go hard on this one, Nerdy.
- 35:02Oh, just Oh yes, nerdy again. So with this of.
- 35:06Course, but of course. Is undeniable.
- 35:09On that, you probably heard the episode where we actually talked
- 35:12about this already, even though we haven't quite got there.
- 35:14Do you think? Do you think the words are just
- 35:17because I'm nerdy and my friends are 30 or just because I'm nerdy
- 35:21and my friends are flirty? I think it's meant to be 30,
- 35:26which is depressing because I'm 40.
- 35:29So now it just says I've got those young friends.
- 35:32But yeah, yeah, yeah, that's me. That is literally me.
- 35:37There's a. Massive debate about this
- 35:39online. We literally literally went like
- 35:41overboard into it because there are no like official lyrics that
- 35:46like agree on the on the lyrics being flirty or 30.
- 35:49However, Busted did post a live version and they put in the
- 35:53captions the lyrics and they put 30, so we agree with that.
- 35:57Boston have said that it is. Because it it changes in the
- 36:01last chorus. And they say just because you're
- 36:04not isn't it don't doesn't mean that you're or.
- 36:06I can't remember. I remember.
- 36:08I remember what you mean. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:09But yeah, and then it wouldn't make sense if they were fled.
- 36:12Was the other way round. I think there's got to be two
- 36:14cents in there, aren't there? So.
- 36:16Absolutely. Good.
- 36:17OK. The other most underrated song?
- 36:21Loner in Love. Yes, love.
- 36:24That show a song. I literally listened to that
- 36:27just before we started recording today.
- 36:29Oh. My gosh, I haven't heard that so
- 36:32long. That's a that that for me.
- 36:34That's another song where I'd love to put in a live set.
- 36:37We eventually will, but obviously again, unless there's
- 36:42hardcore busted. The crowd pleads no.
- 36:44One's going to know it. Yeah, Yeah.
- 36:46So it's almost like playing an original song to everyone.
- 36:49Yeah, it's hard, isn't it? But sometimes it's nice because
- 36:52then you might have some people in the crowd that go, that's a
- 36:55cool song, haven't heard that before, like, and then go home
- 36:58and actually. Think about.
- 36:58Downloading it, that's how I've always thought if something's
- 37:01not popular, as long as the band plays it like to a high standard
- 37:06then people would enjoy it anyway it.
- 37:08Should be good. I suppose it would be like it
- 37:10would be like us going to a busted show.
- 37:12I love all the hits, but if they if they pulled something like
- 37:15that out of the bag or played something off of meet you that
- 37:17off of halfway there, you'd be like, Oh, this is I remember
- 37:21that show because they played that song.
- 37:22Because I remember when we did a show, we did a show a little
- 37:25while back. And when we do the slightly
- 37:28longer sets that we do, So I do why?
- 37:31But I just do it on acoustic. It's just me, just me playing
- 37:34it. And it can be a it can be a
- 37:37moment when it's like people are like, what the hell is this?
- 37:40And, you know, you know, when you at a big gig and you watch
- 37:41everyone go to the bar, you get a bit like that.
- 37:43But sometimes, like, they then look round and there are people
- 37:46singing it. So you're like, oh, well, you
- 37:47actually do know. Yeah.
- 37:49You do know that I just also puts the pressure on to get the
- 37:51words right. You know you.
- 37:53Go to Busted versus McFly. I did.
- 37:56I did. Yeah, they they obviously white.
- 38:00Oh, Jay. Oh my God, you missed out.
- 38:02You did go to. I'll be brutally honest with
- 38:05you, I don't know a lot of McFly songs.
- 38:09OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:10You've picked the wrong podcast to say that because they're.
- 38:13No, no. No, I'll be.
- 38:15Happy. Because I've paid up members,
- 38:17Paid up members. But McFly is one of those bands
- 38:20for me. I know they're popular ones,
- 38:21obviously. Obviously.
- 38:26But. Yeah, I've been past that.
- 38:29Yeah, well, for me, going to see bands live, I like to go and see
- 38:34bands that I know pretty much majority of the songs and stuff.
- 38:38Always I feel like I'm just sitting there like a lemon.
- 38:41You don't know. Yeah.
- 38:42You're not joining in. Yeah.
- 38:43Yeah, I get you. I get you.
- 38:44Yeah. It's very good they did.
- 38:46And the other reason why I didn't go is because I knew
- 38:49James weren't there. Yeah, he was waiting for the
- 38:51call up. He was like, you know, he looked
- 38:53a bit like James when he played his part from the cold play.
- 38:56Yeah. So yeah, screw.
- 38:58Chris Braun. We don't need Chris Braun.
- 39:00That that medley they did I thought was brilliant.
- 39:03Did you, did you hear about the medley that they that they
- 39:05didn't play? No.
- 39:08Where apparently there was a medley that was going to include
- 39:10night driver on what you're on 90s and another one off of
- 39:16halfway there. They'd actually practised it and
- 39:18everything and didn't and. Didn't so I said this was one of
- 39:21the main things I said to Shan is I was really disappointed
- 39:24that they didn't do like any of the halfway there songs and I
- 39:28feel like they were only catering to like they dot busted
- 39:32people and not the people that sort of joined little bit later
- 39:35on. Obviously I'm a day daughter
- 39:37anyway, but I love that album. I think they missed a real big
- 39:40thing there, but equally I know why they didn't because they
- 39:44didn't have James and I feel like the energy of that halfway
- 39:48there album, it just wouldn't have been matched without him.
- 39:50I don't feel like they could have matched the same energy
- 39:53because his vocals are so prominent on that album.
- 39:56I mean, they're prominent on all the songs that is so prominent
- 39:59on that album. And they are, they're shaped by
- 40:02James's sound, I think. And like, I don't know about
- 40:04you, but my God, I was like holding it together when they
- 40:07were singing Sleeping with the Light On.
- 40:08And they were like, we don't sing the first verse because
- 40:10that's James's verse and we're not going to sing it and we want
- 40:13you guys to sing it. And I was just there like, try
- 40:15not to bore my eyes out because the whole lady was just singing
- 40:19James's part and we were all so sad.
- 40:21I just think that they're they really could have.
- 40:23It would have been lovely to have heard that, but I
- 40:25understand why they didn't at the same time, you know?
- 40:28Yeah, I think, I think what that tour actually did, which you
- 40:31don't, you don't think of it until it's in another way.
- 40:34You don't think of it until he's not there.
- 40:36You realise what an like an integral part.
- 40:39I mean, obviously I know he writes a lot of the songs, but
- 40:41just just the way that he's there and the presents that he
- 40:44brings. Yeah.
- 40:46And the harmonies and things like that, they're just it, it,
- 40:49it was, you knew that it felt like in the nicest way.
- 40:52And it was brilliant and they they worked their way through it
- 40:54and it was so, so good. But it it wasn't the whole.
- 40:58Thing was missing something. And they know that it'd be the
- 41:01same. It'd be the same as Top Gear.
- 41:03People tried to replace them. It's never the same true
- 41:07replace. Yeah, exactly.
- 41:08That's the same with busting true.
- 41:09Well. Right.
- 41:10Unless of course Jay gets the phone call and then they can be
- 41:13replaced and Jay's there the. Time is sorted, resorted.
- 41:16I love that. I think it's.
- 41:18It's yeah, it's fine. Yeah, that's OK.
- 41:22No, just. No one would know.
- 41:26I love that. So next question is what's what
- 41:29song always makes like the crowd go wild?
- 41:31What's like the best crowd reaction song?
- 41:34Yeah, 321. Yeah, 3000, Bye.
- 41:37Wow, we assumed it would be. Yeah, it's not his old school
- 41:42favourite and. Like everyone gets up anyway,
- 41:44but for that song, the jumps, I don't know, the energy just
- 41:48seems to go up by like 10%. Yeah, it's.
- 41:52Just and I find that when we played that.
- 41:54Forgotten. Yeah.
- 41:55And I find that when we play that it doesn't matter how old
- 41:57the crowd are that you're playing to, they will still jump
- 42:01up and down. Everyone knows that.
- 42:03So we, we played at like the, the, we played at a festival
- 42:06last year in, in Lincolnshire, which was like a family sort of
- 42:09festival. And it was lots of kids that my
- 42:11son was there and things like that.
- 42:12And they were going absolutely mad to it.
- 42:14And then we played, played a pub in Bridlington, which was 18 and
- 42:17over, and there was like that everyone was just going
- 42:20absolutely crazy, jumping up and down for it.
- 42:23And it's. Just the time it's.
- 42:24Such a it's such a feel good thing and it and it's I, I love
- 42:28playing that song in those in those situations.
- 42:31Do you know what I mean? You know, you know, it's the
- 42:33song that you know, it's the song that most people have come
- 42:35to hear, but also it's the one that they know, you know.
- 42:37Oh, well, that's good. Because normally we try to, you
- 42:40try where possible to build the set in a certain way that it
- 42:44never really like dips down sort of too much.
- 42:46Because I, I think so I, I think the way that we do, we do like
- 42:50sleeping with the light on. And we'll play that sort of
- 42:53somewhere, depending on how long a set we're playing, obviously.
- 42:56But we played on Saturday. We did like 10 songs.
- 43:00You play that almost bang in the middle and you get everyone to
- 43:03get their phones out and everyone's doing that and then
- 43:05you then and then you do. But then we did like Wembley
- 43:08vibes. Yeah, it was Wembley vibes.
- 43:09And then we did like air Hostess.
- 43:11And then people are involved. They've they've got that,
- 43:13they've done the phone thing and they feel part of it.
- 43:15So then you keep the energy going and then you top that off
- 43:17with the year 3000. They're like, it was, yeah, it
- 43:19was really, yeah. It's really, really good one.
- 43:20I think the other reason why there's so much energy in that
- 43:23song is because people might bring people that don't quite
- 43:27know Busted, and I believe you don't.
- 43:29Even they know that one. Who busted are?
- 43:32I've heard that. Song somewhere.
- 43:34It's classic. It's classic naughties.
- 43:37Exactly. It doesn't matter how old you
- 43:39are, everybody know my. 2 year old Jonas Brothers cover Come
- 43:43on, let's go no. No.
- 43:45Well, we've had that discussion. We had that discussion a while
- 43:49ago. Yeah.
- 43:50We, we had a very few different, different, different opinions on
- 43:54that, that cover. I love the job.
- 43:56I'm completely honest. I'm the Jonas Brothers.
- 43:58But you know, at the same time, it would have been nice to have
- 44:00had just the Busted year 3000. You watched the programme.
- 44:04Yeah, it's all good. Oh, I love that for you.
- 44:06Fair play. OK, next question.
- 44:09Have you ever met any of the Busted Boys?
- 44:13I haven't. No, I've waved at Charlie at a
- 44:16Fight Star group once and then yeah, and then when we.
- 44:23Well, Dico, who's that? Weirdo.
- 44:24Yeah. Who's that bloke waving at me?
- 44:27Security. Security.
- 44:29And then when we went to the, the closest we'd got is that
- 44:32when I went to the 100 Club show, when they did year 3000,
- 44:37Matt dived into the crowd on his back and I and I held him up for
- 44:43like a second You've. Saved a minute, yeah?
- 44:46No, yes, exactly. So, yeah, that's about as,
- 44:49that's as close as we've got. Yeah.
- 44:51Was you not bad? Never washing his hand?
- 44:52Yeah. Never working, yeah.
- 44:54That's what we're like. We are crazy.
- 44:56No, Yeah, if it had been Charlie, obviously.
- 44:59Yeah, we, we were really lucky at the MC Busted gig.
- 45:02We actually won VIP tickets. So we were, we ended up, it was
- 45:07so good. It was the best moment ever.
- 45:09We ended up in the OMFG pit at the very front where it was
- 45:12really Oh my God. And that's like.
- 45:15We had timed up from 6:00 AM. Oh yeah, we didn't.
- 45:18We were the first people in the team and we didn't even need to
- 45:20be there till 6:00 PM because we won the tickets in the end.
- 45:23So it was, it was a waste of a day, but it's fine.
- 45:25It was worth it, No? It's not a waste though, is it?
- 45:28It was the best. I like a good.
- 45:30Idea you meet make friends with everyone around you such an.
- 45:33English singer, isn't it? Yeah.
- 45:35Yeah, definitely. It's so funny.
- 45:37We, we were quite, we were so lucky.
- 45:40But we, I think, I think the the gig itself, if I think about all
- 45:46the gigs I've been to, the macbasted gig for interaction is
- 45:50like like God Tia because we, you just don't get the
- 45:54interactions from the band like we did.
- 45:57It was insane. I chatted to James Bourne about
- 46:00how much I loved him. He told me he loved me and we
- 46:02were going to get married. That was the best moment of my
- 46:04life. You were like, show me outside,
- 46:05show me outside. Yeah, we were like, yeah, let's
- 46:08and then. Is that legally binding?
- 46:10Am I? Is that a proposal?
- 46:12Because yes, and that and that person there heard it so.
- 46:16Yeah. Me.
- 46:17I also this was before I met my husband so you know it's OK.
- 46:21You buy in California right now, Yeah.
- 46:23I would you will he actually, he actually has a little house in
- 46:26Cornwall which is not that far from me.
- 46:28So that's where I live. So, you know, not that you know
- 46:30where that is or anything, you know, Yeah.
- 46:34I know he's talking, so I chat with James.
- 46:37I played Tom's guitar. He put his guitar down and I
- 46:39like played his guitar. He sang Shine a Light to Me.
- 46:43Like he got down on his knees and like pointed at me.
- 46:45And Shannon was putting her phone torch on me.
- 46:48I was like, shine a light on her and.
- 46:50I held Danny Jones's hand and it was just such a good, a good
- 46:55like interactive show. And I think like, because we've
- 46:58not met them despite like not so like attempting to try to meet
- 47:02Matt Willis while we were in London.
- 47:03If you heard that episode, Matt, it was absolute nightmare.
- 47:07We failed very drastically. But we're still to.
- 47:11You've met Shannon's met Tom Fletcher at books.
- 47:14I have yeah. And that my.
- 47:16Son's met Tom Fletcher. He went to, he got his space
- 47:19band book signed by him. He went to that thing at the at
- 47:22the church where he did like a little Q&A thing.
- 47:25And then my wife and my son queued up for what felt like
- 47:29forever, apparently, and he just sort of stood there and he was
- 47:31like, hello book. And then just went.
- 47:34But it was I've got a picture of him meeting him.
- 47:38He's really friendly you, but you've got to be the talkative
- 47:411. I think like for all the videos
- 47:42I've watched, like if you don't attempt to have the
- 47:45conversation, he will probably just say, Oh yeah, thanks for
- 47:49coming. Yeah.
- 47:49And then on to the next because obviously some people are there
- 47:52are like die hard from someone. From their point of view, they
- 47:55must do it to so many people. It's hard.
- 47:58Yeah, definitely. Probably hard to keep.
- 48:01It hard to make every person's experience like a nice genuine
- 48:06moment, yeah. Exactly memorable.
- 48:08Yeah, yes, that's just easier to be polite and nice rather than
- 48:12try and talk all. About yeah, yeah, definitely,
- 48:15definitely, definitely next one. What's your dream venue to play?
- 48:26I mean, I'd love to play Wembley.
- 48:29Would you? I see.
- 48:29I'd turn that down, I mean. Dream big, Dream big.
- 48:32Dream big. Oh no, we meant stadium, you
- 48:35know, like, yeah, I'll remember. Stadium.
- 48:37Yeah, yeah. Principality, I don't know,
- 48:40Cardiff. Do you know what from from my
- 48:43from my side, I think it's more about I'll go where people want
- 48:47us to play. So I don't really care.
- 48:49I don't care if it's the the floor of your lounge or if it's
- 48:54a big festival or a big venue somewhere or whatever.
- 48:57I know that we'll bring the show that everyone wants to see,
- 49:00regardless of where it is. We've played, I think, in the
- 49:03the. Dream venue to play as a full
- 49:04venue we've. Played exactly that I'll and
- 49:07I'll tell you now, I'll take a full venue with 50 people that
- 49:11holds 50 rather than 50 people in an 800 cap venue.
- 49:15Do you know what? I mean I would take that order
- 49:17order. We talked about that.
- 49:18We played a show in Wales. We played a show in Wales,
- 49:21right? Yeah, like, and there weren't
- 49:24that many people there. And there's me getting all on
- 49:26the floor and everything. Yeah, he was.
- 49:27He was the most energetic I've seen him.
- 49:30And there was, there was almost as many of us on the stage as
- 49:32they were watching, like we turned up to this pub and they
- 49:35and the people there were lovely.
- 49:37That put us on, right. But how can I put this?
- 49:40They weren't necessarily ready for a gig.
- 49:43So they were like, right, turn up and they're like, don't
- 49:44worry, we've got APA. So we we.
- 49:46Were a pub that literally just opened.
- 49:48Yeah, right. Yeah.
- 49:49So we turn up, we're putting all the vocals are going through the
- 49:52television, PA and then and then and then we start playing and
- 49:59I'm like, are you going to turn the football off behind us?
- 50:02Nope. So what for the playing someone
- 50:04in the background and I'm I'm literally playing the
- 50:06instrumental bit of one of the songs and I'm checking the score
- 50:09and it was just. It was just.
- 50:10Just one of those, one of those moments.
- 50:12But do you know what random? I'd do it again.
- 50:14It was. It was good fun.
- 50:15And it didn't. Have a problem?
- 50:16We had a good time and I think you've got to make it what it
- 50:17is. But yeah, genuine.
- 50:19Yeah. Generally speaking, it's I'll
- 50:21play anywhere. Good, I love that that's what
- 50:24it's all about. Definitely.
- 50:25OK, my my question is do you have a favourite bossed music
- 50:30video moment? I think back to the music
- 50:33videos, are there any that you really love or any moments that
- 50:35like stick in your head? Oh, I'm trying to think if I
- 50:37even have one. With Is it?
- 50:43Is it Tom Fletcher who smashed Charlie's arse?
- 50:47Or what in crashed the wedding. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:49In crashed the wedding. 17 times.
- 50:53Yeah. Yeah, probably going.
- 50:54I was never being busted. It was one of the most right
- 50:57members weren't. It.
- 50:58Yeah, yeah, yeah. Love that.
- 51:00Brilliant. When I found out, when I
- 51:02actually found out I heard about it, I was like, no way.
- 51:05I had to go to the video straight.
- 51:06I was like direct. To YouTube.
- 51:09I'm going to do it again after this guy.
- 51:10I can remind myself of that magical moment.
- 51:12One of, yeah, one of my favourite, one of my favourite
- 51:15videos I think is actually is 90s and I love the bit when
- 51:18they're pretending to be the boy band.
- 51:21I think that's. So clever.
- 51:24So clever. Yeah.
- 51:25I love a good music video. And it's really sad because
- 51:27obviously there's so many, like, singles that didn't get music
- 51:30videos from their albums. And I often think about the
- 51:34songs that didn't get their videos that and how those videos
- 51:36might be. And we do that with McFly songs.
- 51:38Don't you, Shan, often, like, think about if there isn't a
- 51:41video, what would we like the video to look like?
- 51:43I think for me, the video moment that stands out in my head is
- 51:47what I go to school for. It's Matt being bent over a
- 51:50table and being whipped by his teacher, who's considerably
- 51:54older than him at the time as well, that sticks in my head
- 51:58rent free. Yeah, I've got.
- 52:00Wait, I've got another one. Yeah, you'll notice this now in
- 52:03Shipwreck, the music video. Right.
- 52:05Yeah. James is at the front.
- 52:07He's got his arms out like. This.
- 52:10Oh yeah. Charlie on Matt, they're holding
- 52:12him as if like. Yeah, Titanic.
- 52:15Like Titanic. Yeah, I love that.
- 52:17That's brilliant. That's a.
- 52:19Great song. I wonder as well when they talk
- 52:22about music videos, when you talk with that, like James and
- 52:25Matt always talk about how they wrote songs based on how the
- 52:29video is going to be. So like they'd written the video
- 52:31for the year 3000 whilst they were writing the song.
- 52:34I wonder as well whether they've done that continuously with any
- 52:37of the other songs they've written.
- 52:38That would be interesting right now, yeah.
- 52:40Yeah, especially like even like with the with the halfway there
- 52:43stuff when they wrote 90s. Do you think they're going as
- 52:45they're writing it? Oh, we could do a thing where
- 52:47you dress up like the backstreet.
- 52:48Boys and you do this, and you. Do like that.
- 52:51I think one of the reasons why their songs are like good,
- 52:54catchy and fun is because I don't think they write songs on
- 52:58or what will everyone like. I think they just write songs.
- 53:01They do it for them. Let's just.
- 53:03Have a laugh writing them a. 100% yeah 100.
- 53:06Percent. And that's the way it should be.
- 53:08That's the way it should be. It's music that they write for
- 53:11them that we love. It's time for In the Wild.
- 53:17Usually this is the area of the podcast where we talk about what
- 53:20the boys in the bands have been up to out in the wild, but this
- 53:23week it's all about the Busted experience.
- 53:26So tell us guys, what things have you got planned this year?
- 53:28Have you got any upcoming gigs, new shows, things that you want
- 53:31to share with our listeners? Yes, yeah, we've got, I'll be
- 53:35honest, we've got quite a few gigs coming up over the next few
- 53:38months, which is always exciting.
- 53:41Yeah. So we're, we've got a couple
- 53:44couple, I mean, I can list them off, but you know, we're
- 53:46playing, we've got a couple in May in Milton Keynes and in
- 53:49Colchester, which is kind of close to us, which will be a
- 53:52good one. We're in London in June.
- 53:55And then at the end of June, we're doing the Busted
- 54:00experience versus Mcflyd nice, which obviously you spoke to the
- 54:03Mcflyd guys a few weeks. Back battle.
- 54:06Of the bands you know exactly that battle.
- 54:07Of the bands looking to put, you know, our version of that that
- 54:11show on to some degree I think we're going to do some things
- 54:14the same and we're also going to try hopefully try a few
- 54:17different things that they they didn't do just to try and.
- 54:20Get that versus aspect in there, definitely, yeah.
- 54:23A little bit and I just, I don't know.
- 54:25I don't know about you guys. Obviously you went to the the
- 54:27show and the show itself. I thought the sets and
- 54:30everything were brilliant. My only thing about it was that
- 54:34I felt that they could have done a bit more together.
- 54:37Versus we've had this conversation a few times with
- 54:40guests. Now all the time, yeah.
- 54:41Yeah, with ourselves and two of our other guests, we've also had
- 54:44this conversation with and we we completely agree.
- 54:46We think that the. Versus aspect, we've lost a
- 54:48little bit exactly that. I just feel like it could have
- 54:51been more like just, I don't know, little things.
- 54:52Like, I would have thought one of the things we've sort of
- 54:55chatted about maybe doing is like each band playing one of
- 54:59the other band's songs. Yes, I would have loved that.
- 55:02I do. How good would it have been to
- 55:04hear McFly do, I don't know, a random busted song and then
- 55:07busted? Music.
- 55:08Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:10Or, you know, something like that and busted do like the
- 55:12heart never lies or something like that.
- 55:14Do you know what I mean? And just give it, give it
- 55:15something really different. So that might be something that
- 55:18we do, we're gonna do try and do some stuff together and then
- 55:20obviously finish with, you know, year 3000 because that's the
- 55:23best. Yeah.
- 55:24And then we are actually playing a couple of sort of, I guess,
- 55:29family festivals, a company called Sky Glow Festival, one in
- 55:35Cheltenham, one in Lincolnshire over the summer, which will be
- 55:37really cool, Cheltenham Racecourse.
- 55:39So that'll be interesting, yeah. We're playing in Leeds in July,
- 55:45we're playing in Bridgewater down in Somerset in.
- 55:48Sector oh, not that far from that that could be an option
- 55:52Shan, we could maybe go up that way a little bit we also.
- 55:56Got are you? How close are you to Frome Frome
- 55:59I? Don't even know where that.
- 56:01Is that's like that's in. Bath evidently not that close.
- 56:04Yeah, I don't know. I'll be.
- 56:06Honest, I don't know but. Yeah, I think so.
- 56:08Yeah. But we're doing.
- 56:09We're doing. 3 1/2 hours. Oh, OK, All right.
- 56:12Well, yeah, a good 3 1/2 hours, even better.
- 56:14Yeah. And then we're in we're, and
- 56:16then towards the end of the year we're in York, Chesterfield,
- 56:19Derby. And then we're doing another
- 56:21Busted versus Mcflyde show in in November in Felix, though.
- 56:27Oh my goodness. With our show on the 20th of
- 56:29November, I'm looking forward. To that.
- 56:31Oh yeah. Because we're playing with a
- 56:33Yumi at six, trivial and a. 60 no way that's.
- 56:37Going to be a wicked. No, Yeah, yeah.
- 56:39Meet you at six my. Lord.
- 56:41Oh. My goodness, that's simple.
- 56:42Band UK say. Where is that?
- 56:45Sounds like the venue cup of tea.
- 56:47That's in the venue, that's at the Hairy Dog in Derby, OH.
- 56:51My God that's so far but sounds so fun.
- 56:54But again, it's a Friday to make a weekend of it.
- 56:57And all three bands, like I just feel like all their songs are
- 57:00just banners. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:02And you, you, me at six are a massive, massive ban for me and
- 57:06Shannon. We've been to like a couple of
- 57:07their gigs together. We absolutely love.
- 57:09We went to the final nights at 6th Tour and it was just so.
- 57:12Amazing, yeah. I loved it.
- 57:14Yeah. You went twice.
- 57:16Yeah, you did, didn't you? Oh, it was just unreal.
- 57:18OK. So Derby's five hours drive,
- 57:20Shannon, so we could do it? Well, what's interesting not
- 57:23there, what's interesting you could do.
- 57:25You could do Derby on the Friday and then make your way down via
- 57:28Felix, though, and come to the Busted Verse McFly show the next
- 57:30day. Oh my God.
- 57:32Just be groupies. Yeah, just be the groupies that
- 57:34follow you around. What a time, what a time to be
- 57:37alive. I mean, there's lovely travel
- 57:38lodges along the, you know, along whatever motorway you have
- 57:40to go on. You know, it's lovely and.
- 57:42There's always an after party, yeah.
- 57:44And. You.
- 57:45Will you won't have to you won't have to pay to get in either of
- 57:48them. So if you can come let us know
- 57:49and we'll make sure you. I think we'll get some thing in
- 57:52the works, definitely. There we go.
- 57:54I think I would definitely come to the to the one in Somerset,
- 57:58yeah. It's not.
- 58:00Is it a place called Cobblestones in Bridgewater?
- 58:02Yeah, that's not far and I can stay up that way anyway, so.
- 58:05There we go. See.
- 58:06Let us know and we'll do a behind.
- 58:08We'll do a backstage podcast. Oh my God, you're so good before
- 58:13and after the show. Exactly.
- 58:14Yeah, super do you. Another question I thought would
- 58:18be quite interesting to ask you is whether or not you have any
- 58:21pre or post show rituals. Not so much I am I am one for
- 58:27making sure I give everyone either a high 5 or just a fist
- 58:30bump beforehand. Because I like to know that I'm
- 58:31like have a good show. Have a good show because I like
- 58:33to know that it's it's done. Yeah, that's.
- 58:36Good. There's a there's a band that I
- 58:38there's another band that I like and it's the thing I've always
- 58:40thought about doing. I'm like, oh, I don't know where
- 58:42they go around. They will put their hands in the
- 58:44middle and they go on three don't be shit.
- 58:48So I've thought about that, but no, I just I've, I've always
- 58:51done that in every band I've been in.
- 58:52I've got I just have to go round, be like, yeah, go on,
- 58:55have a good literally before you go on.
- 58:56I just feel it's that sort of sounds stupid, but like there's
- 58:59just that little bit of connection between.
- 59:00You. And then as soon as you go on,
- 59:03it becomes it's, it becomes, it becomes whatever it is.
- 59:05But when you go on that stage, you're doing it sort of
- 59:08together. Together I.
- 59:09Think the good thing with us as well is like especially with
- 59:12this new line up, we do go on the stage as friends and like.
- 59:17We have a. Laugh.
- 59:18So it's not. That's important.
- 59:20I know a lot of bands kind of like take it so seriously,
- 59:25almost scared to go on stage and things, you know what I mean?
- 59:27You've got to enjoy it. What's the point in doing it?
- 59:30Yeah, if you don't. Exactly that.
- 59:31And I'm, I'm, you know, I joke about it, but I'm, you know, I'm
- 59:35too old in the, I'm too long in the tooth.
- 59:37Is that the phrase I'm too long in the tooth now to worry about
- 59:39it? Like I, I get up there and I
- 59:41have and I have a good laugh. And if people want to have a
- 59:43laugh, then they can, they can enjoy it.
- 59:44But trust me, I'm going to enjoy it regardless, but it's much
- 59:47easier if you do it with me 'cause otherwise I will put you
- 59:49out of the crowd and tell you to enjoy.
- 59:51It enjoy. If there's a mistake like, we
- 59:53just laugh about it like. Ohh, good.
- 59:55Yeah, absolutely. That's the best way to do it.
- 59:59I love a pre show ritual. We used to do a lot like me and
- 1:00:01Shannon did musical theatre for a fair few years and we always
- 1:00:04had like, yeah, backstage things that we'd all do together.
- 1:00:07But one thing I read so I bought on vintage a couple of months
- 1:00:11ago, the Mcbusted like unofficial autobiography, like
- 1:00:15tour book. And in there it was talking
- 1:00:19about how before they went on stage, every time they do the
- 1:00:22unison clap. Have you heard about that clap?
- 1:00:25Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:26Where they would all, like, stand.
- 1:00:28And then they all just clapped. And the way the writer described
- 1:00:31it was so cool. It's like effortlessly just clap
- 1:00:34all at the same time. Give it again.
- 1:00:37I'll be, I'll be honest, we struggle to play to the click
- 1:00:39sometimes when we've got the time.
- 1:00:41So yeah, just looking at each other and go clap.
- 1:00:43I don't. I can't see it happening
- 1:00:44personally. But but I'll give it a go.
- 1:00:47That is actually more difficult than you think as well.
- 1:00:49It's so hard. We used to do it in theatre.
- 1:00:51Yeah, we used to do it in theatre as well.
- 1:00:53It's not easy. It's so difficult.
- 1:00:55Exactly. You've got.
- 1:00:56I'm so used to hearing the. Same wavelength.
- 1:00:58Yeah, I'm so used to hearing 123412 guitar stuff in my ears
- 1:01:04that I'm like, I wouldn't be able to, I'd have to say it.
- 1:01:05I'd have to go clap now and then I'd clap.
- 1:01:08I'd be fine. Well, you could give it a go.
- 1:01:11Yeah, I love that. Awesome.
- 1:01:13Well, thank you so much for sharing.
- 1:01:15It's nice for our listeners, obviously, to have a little bit
- 1:01:17of a clue as to what's going on with you guys this year.
- 1:01:19And before we close this episode in a little while, we'll make
- 1:01:22sure that there's time for you to plug your Instagrams and your
- 1:01:25Tik Toks and everything like that so people can actually find
- 1:01:28links to your shows. So stick around, make sure you
- 1:01:30hang about for links to everything.
- 1:01:32So if you're fancying going along to a bust experience show,
- 1:01:35yes, definitely stick around. You'll find that out at the end
- 1:01:37of this episode. It's time for Song of the Week.
- 1:01:43And this week we're talking about everything I knew by
- 1:01:46Busted. This song is one of those songs
- 1:02:00that I think like I almost like forgot about until I realised
- 1:02:03the episode was coming up and I was like, oh, I better like
- 1:02:05really listen to it because I don't often listen to like and I
- 1:02:09listen to the albums on Truffle and sometimes I pick specific
- 1:02:12songs I want to listen to, but it doesn't often come up.
- 1:02:15But when I tell you when I played this, Oh my God, it was
- 1:02:19like all of the lyrics. You know when you know a song
- 1:02:22and like from a long time ago and you play it and it just
- 1:02:26comes back into your head and you know every single lyrics.
- 1:02:29So what we normally do, guys, if you don't know is we talk about
- 1:02:32what we like about the song, what maybe we don't like about
- 1:02:34the song and we give it a rating out of 10.
- 1:02:36We usually give it a rating for like a live and the rating for
- 1:02:40the album version. Sham, do you want to go first
- 1:02:43And then we'll we'll do our bits quickly and then we'll move on
- 1:02:45to the lads so they can talk about it as well.
- 1:02:48I really love this song. I really love this song.
- 1:02:53I think it's one of one of my highest rated on the album.
- 1:02:57I think I'd give this one like an 8.5.
- 1:03:01It would be nice. Good, of course.
- 1:03:03Yeah, I love it. Good rating.
- 1:03:05Straight in. Yeah, I love it.
- 1:03:06And I'm not. I'm not one for a good rating
- 1:03:08usually. Normally I'm a low rating.
- 1:03:10I've heard, I've heard. You'd be quite.
- 1:03:11Yeah, quite. She's brutal.
- 1:03:13She is brutal. It's not busting, Tom.
- 1:03:16Fletcher could just go down a microphone.
- 1:03:18You'd be like, oh, it's amazing, absolutely amazing.
- 1:03:21Maybe if it was. Danny Dan Yeah, I didn't like
- 1:03:25the whole first. I wanna say like 3/4 of the Room
- 1:03:29on the 3rd Floor album, but this is probably my yeah.
- 1:03:34I would say 8.5, maybe even 9. I love the chorus, I just think
- 1:03:37it's so well written. Yes, it's so good.
- 1:03:41I completely agree with you. I think I would definitely go
- 1:03:44for an 888 slash 8.5. I think what I love about the
- 1:03:48song is I love the lyrics and I like the progression of like,
- 1:03:51it's almost like a story. I love that.
- 1:03:53I think it's very much like, you know, it tells a little bit
- 1:03:57about what's actually happening in that, like the story that it
- 1:04:00moves through, but it's not like too detailed and that there's
- 1:04:03too much going on and you can't really understand the situation,
- 1:04:05if that makes sense. You know, when there's a lot
- 1:04:07going on and it's hard, I really like that.
- 1:04:09And it's very much like feelings that we've all had.
- 1:04:12I think we've all had those moments where, you know,
- 1:04:14something doesn't quite go the way that you planned it to go
- 1:04:17and everything's changed and you're like, oh shit, what do I
- 1:04:20do now? Because.
- 1:04:21I think I could relate this song as the child and as an adult.
- 1:04:25As an adult, everything that they're saying, everything I
- 1:04:28knew is, is gone. I can't continue with the way I
- 1:04:31am right now because. You are everything I knew.
- 1:04:33Yeah, exactly. So that's one of the things, the
- 1:04:36reason for me, I think it isn't A10 is I think it's a little bit
- 1:04:39in terms of the melodic progression.
- 1:04:41I think the chorus is a little bit samey.
- 1:04:45I love the chorus. I know I like the chorus, but I
- 1:04:49do, I do feel like it's a little bit samey in terms of like the
- 1:04:52melody, but it's not. You get what I mean.
- 1:04:54Sat in a car because he myself sat in the car screaming that
- 1:04:58chorus out of an open. Window.
- 1:05:00Oh, I did that today. I did that today.
- 1:05:01Yeah, 100. Percent.
- 1:05:02I really love the chorus. I like the bridge and I like the
- 1:05:05chorus. I love the whole song, I just
- 1:05:07feel like if I had to pick something about it that I didn't
- 1:05:09perhaps like. Have to pick something.
- 1:05:11Taylor choosing to pick something.
- 1:05:13Also though I I've rated it an 8 so I have to explain why it
- 1:05:17isn't a 10. That's what I feel like when we
- 1:05:19rate. Rated 10 because it's not Meet
- 1:05:21you there. That's the only reason.
- 1:05:26No, I think that's it for me. I think there's just not as much
- 1:05:29like melody with the chorus. And I think, again, I do love
- 1:05:32it. I think it's really great.
- 1:05:32I think for me, that's the only reason I've marked it down a
- 1:05:34little bit. Let's go over to Matt and Jay
- 1:05:37then. What do you guys think of the
- 1:05:38song? What your ratings?
- 1:05:42Right. Well this song is a 10 out of 10
- 1:05:45for me. Yeah.
- 1:05:47So good. You can play it I.
- 1:05:51Really enjoy singing it, there's a lot of inside jokes with this
- 1:05:55particular song. OK with.
- 1:05:58Other people and stuff like the way, like the way I convisioned,
- 1:06:04like the way he wrote it, sings it.
- 1:06:06But like, yeah. So it's just, I don't know, it's
- 1:06:10a 10 out of 10 song for me because it's just a lot of
- 1:06:13memories around this song growing up, if that makes sense.
- 1:06:18Love that. Yeah, it's nostalgic, definitely
- 1:06:20OK. I have AI have a soft spot for
- 1:06:23this song. I wouldn't go as far to say the
- 1:06:2410. I'd say probably like an 88.5.
- 1:06:27I remember it from when I tried out.
- 1:06:30So when I came from my audition to join the band, it was one of
- 1:06:34the ones that I it was one of the ones that we played and it
- 1:06:36was one of the ones that I'd actually had to sort of learn to
- 1:06:39come here, if you know what I mean.
- 1:06:41So it was one of those ones that really SAT and.
- 1:06:43You didn't have to learn. It.
- 1:06:44No, but no but. Well, no, but I just.
- 1:06:47But as in it was one that I hadn't actually played along to
- 1:06:49before, if you see what I mean. So yeah.
- 1:06:50It's not like most most popular. Yeah, I enjoy it that side and I
- 1:06:54and I remember actually, so I, I remember at the time when Busted
- 1:06:58reformed and I went to that like the reunion tour, this was one
- 1:07:02of the songs they played when I was like, oh, you know, earlier
- 1:07:05on we were talking about that moment where you get a song that
- 1:07:07you're not expecting to hear. That was that it's become a much
- 1:07:11bigger part of their set and they play it all the time now.
- 1:07:13But I remember at the time thinking, I can't believe
- 1:07:15they're playing this song. Like I never would have picked
- 1:07:17this as one to play. So I think it's got it's got a
- 1:07:20soft spot there. I think there's some cool,
- 1:07:22there's some cool vocal stuff in there as well.
- 1:07:24Yeah, so. Yeah, definitely.
- 1:07:27It's a nice mix of everyone's, like, I like the fact here.
- 1:07:31One of the big things for me are busted is I love the harmonies
- 1:07:33and stuff, but I also like it when they all get their own
- 1:07:36little spot within a song. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:38And I feel like this is a really good balance there.
- 1:07:40You've got the verses of Matt, the pre chorus is James and then
- 1:07:43the chorus is Charlie essentially and obviously with
- 1:07:46some harmonies and stuff. Quite a lot, don't they?
- 1:07:48I love that. Yeah.
- 1:07:49And I like that because I like the fact that it's it just gives
- 1:07:51it a bit of a, an extra, an extra push really didn't and
- 1:07:55just highlights that they can all they can all sing and they
- 1:07:57can all play lunch. Yeah, I think that's something
- 1:08:00that McFly and Busted have in common.
- 1:08:02They are quite good at giving each person their moment with
- 1:08:06those like it's. There's no lead singer.
- 1:08:08They're all. No, Tom and Danny are very much
- 1:08:10balanced in terms of what they sing.
- 1:08:12And then you do get, obviously Dougie proclaims himself as not
- 1:08:16the best vocalist, but he does get his moments as well.
- 1:08:18I mean, Transylvania is pretty much a whole Dougie song.
- 1:08:21We love Dougie, but I think that like, I think for a long time I
- 1:08:24thought that when I was listening, I didn't feel like I
- 1:08:27heard as much Matt as I did James and Charlie.
- 1:08:31But actually the more I listen now as an adult, I think I can
- 1:08:33hear him a lot more than I thought I did as a child.
- 1:08:36Like, especially as a teenager, I think maybe I I was just so in
- 1:08:39love with James Bond that that's all I heard.
- 1:08:42I think Matt's got such a distinctive voice as well, so
- 1:08:44when you know it. And in this song, 10 out of 10
- 1:08:48Matt, this is a 10 out of 10 Matt for me.
- 1:08:50He is amazing in this song. His vocals are so good and he
- 1:08:54just like he stands out and that's what I love about all
- 1:08:56three of them. They've all got such unique
- 1:08:59voices. You can tell when each of them
- 1:09:00are singing. They have.
- 1:09:02Even when they have. None of them sound like each
- 1:09:05other. No.
- 1:09:06And that's amazing. Absolutely.
- 1:09:08And I also, I also like with this song, the fact that they a
- 1:09:12big thing for me with with the harmony stuff, because that's
- 1:09:14one of the things it busted as well.
- 1:09:15They they really got me into understanding like harmony,
- 1:09:18harmony in terms of like that. But what I like here is it's not
- 1:09:22always all three of them. So like for example, in the pre
- 1:09:25chorus bit, I know I shouldn't have to pay for every word I
- 1:09:28say. That bit that James sings,
- 1:09:30you've got Charlie singing the harmony underneath, but it's not
- 1:09:33a three parter. And I think that really then
- 1:09:35gives the impact that the chorus needs.
- 1:09:37Yeah, 100% it like builds it doesn't it up and up again for
- 1:09:41the for. The exactly that exactly.
- 1:09:42And then and then the fact that it then comes down to just
- 1:09:45Charlie doing the I don't know what to do because you're
- 1:09:47everything I knew that bit. I think that works really well
- 1:09:51as well. I just.
- 1:09:51It brings the emotion. Actually, I'm gonna, I'm gonna
- 1:09:53put it up to a nine. I've decided I've changed.
- 1:09:56He's convinced himself. I know you've convinced yourself
- 1:09:59to add 1. I love that.
- 1:10:02And it's 1. Of those songs where when people
- 1:10:04go for a breakup, it's almost like, oh, have they written
- 1:10:08that? About me had the hearts.
- 1:10:11Broken. Yeah.
- 1:10:12Oh my God. I love those songs, though.
- 1:10:14Sometimes you just need a soundtrack to your experience.
- 1:10:17Like me and Shannon, you've got. You've probably heard us talk
- 1:10:20about this before if you've listened, but we are very big
- 1:10:22Swifties. And I think for us, like when it
- 1:10:25comes to Taylor Swift, yes, love that for you guys.
- 1:10:29We're very much like lyrical Swifties.
- 1:10:32We are not Shake it off Swifties.
- 1:10:34We're not. You know, we do.
- 1:10:36We, You know, we're happy to. Well, yeah.
- 1:10:38I mean, old school old. I played Love Story at my
- 1:10:41wedding wedding party. We had a little doubt around
- 1:10:43that. Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:45So good. It's the storytelling aspect.
- 1:10:48And it's those moments that especially when you've grown up
- 1:10:50with a band like we have. And obviously, you guys are the
- 1:10:52same age as the Busted members, whereas we're a little.
- 1:10:56Bit didn't remind me of. That that.
- 1:11:00Nothing wrong with that. Holy unnecessary.
- 1:11:03No, it goes. 3010 I'll have you know 3010.
- 1:11:06Goes with the point I'm going to make in that you grow up
- 1:11:09alongside them and having the same experiences.
- 1:11:12Do you know what I mean? Yes, they're famous and they're
- 1:11:13in bands, but they still go through heartache.
- 1:11:15They still have issues with friendships and family and we
- 1:11:18all go through these things no matter where we are in life and
- 1:11:21actually experience that at the same time as someone.
- 1:11:24Again, why we relate so much to Taylor Swift is because we're
- 1:11:27only two years apart in age. We find that we go through
- 1:11:30things at the same time as she does.
- 1:11:32I'm few releases music that we really relate to and I think.
- 1:11:35And also, sometimes you need, sometimes you need those songs
- 1:11:39when you're going through something where you're like, you
- 1:11:41can't really put your feelings into, you can't, you can't
- 1:11:44explain your own feelings. And you're like, this is exactly
- 1:11:47how I feel. Thank you for, you know, like
- 1:11:50helping me process something. Have you ever done that?
- 1:11:52Just sent a song to someone you know?
- 1:11:54Like if you've gone through something with them and you
- 1:11:56can't explain how you feel, like just listen to this, you'll know
- 1:11:58what I mean. I feel like that was my whole
- 1:12:00Myspace era, yeah. Yeah, your Myspace song said so
- 1:12:04much about you. Then it's like you know, and and
- 1:12:07your top friends go, you know. Yeah.
- 1:12:10Oh yeah. Choosing.
- 1:12:11Quite. But yeah, do other, what else I
- 1:12:14think about this song that, you know, we, we touched on it
- 1:12:17earlier on about the fact that this, like this album, like the
- 1:12:20first album, generally speaking, is, you know, it's got the it's
- 1:12:25got the quirky fun songs on it, isn't it?
- 1:12:27It's got what I go to school for.
- 1:12:28It's got year 3000. It's got, you know, Britney and
- 1:12:32that sort of thing, right? Don't go wrong.
- 1:12:34All brilliant songs. But then this also shows for me
- 1:12:36the other side that they can't they they they do write songs
- 1:12:40that actually have a bit of meaning behind.
- 1:12:42Them do you? Know what I mean?
- 1:12:47All three of us at the same time.
- 1:12:49I was going to say this album also has Losing You and Without
- 1:12:52You which are also. Really.
- 1:12:54Deep cut songs, yeah. Really deep.
- 1:12:57Yeah. This is what we said about the
- 1:12:58last episode that we recorded. What was it called?
- 1:13:00What was the song called? When daytime in tonight?
- 1:13:03Like you. Yeah, you, you can almost grow
- 1:13:07up with them through the album. Like you listen to that song now
- 1:13:10and it's such a grown up version of the Busted that we just
- 1:13:13listened to 5 minutes ago 3 songs down the line, you know?
- 1:13:16Yeah, 300%. Yeah, I would love to hear, I
- 1:13:19would love to hear a 2.0 version of some of those lesser known
- 1:13:23ones as well. Can you imagine them doing that
- 1:13:25now, like doing what they did with the 2.0 stuff?
- 1:13:28Obviously that was always going to be the greatest hits because
- 1:13:31it had to be the greatest hits, but to have some lesser known
- 1:13:34hits as well, pick the songs off of that that we we've spoken
- 1:13:37about as well. Again, maybe further down the
- 1:13:39line, we'd love to do a show one day where we play like an album
- 1:13:44start to finish, four albums. That's a good idea.
- 1:13:47Good luck. Because I think then as well,
- 1:13:48you could show a bit more of what you know, everyone you
- 1:13:51know. I said generally people, you
- 1:13:53play the you obviously play the greatest hits and of course
- 1:13:55that's what you want to do because it's a two way St, isn't
- 1:13:58it? You get the you get the response
- 1:13:59off of people from what you play.
- 1:14:01So playing loads of songs they don't know is never going to
- 1:14:03work. But it's pointless.
- 1:14:04I'd love to do like a show where, you know, it's going to
- 1:14:07be pals, court, Busted fans or whatever, and you go, right,
- 1:14:11we're gonna do a present for everyone in full, start to
- 1:14:14finish the order that it is on the album and everything.
- 1:14:16Yeah. So there's gonna be in the bit,
- 1:14:18there's gonna be a bit in the middle when there's gonna be
- 1:14:19songs that you don't know. Yeah, but you would advertise
- 1:14:23it? No.
- 1:14:23So they know it's going through the full album, which would.
- 1:14:26Yeah, so they know what they were coming to see.
- 1:14:29Exactly that. Exactly.
- 1:14:30Absolutely. I just, Oh my God.
- 1:14:31I think it's so it could show. It could show so much more.
- 1:14:35I've I think I'd have to convince Jay to do Night Driver,
- 1:14:38but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
- 1:14:42That might be a quieter show. He's like you can do.
- 1:14:45It Yeah. Yeah, I love that with.
- 1:14:47Me on stage, yeah. No, that sounds good.
- 1:14:49That's a really great idea and it's nice that you're thinking
- 1:14:52about like all of those things and what's to come with the band
- 1:14:55as well. I love that for you guys and I'm
- 1:14:56sure we've got lots of really exciting things coming up for
- 1:14:59you. So we're looking forward to
- 1:15:00hearing all about it as as the months go on, it's that time
- 1:15:06again for us to say thank you so much for listening and joining
- 1:15:09us for another episode of Galaxy Crashers.
- 1:15:12And of course, a huge thank you to The Bastard Experience for
- 1:15:15joining us. Before we go, tell everyone
- 1:15:17where they can find you and all of your like, exciting upcoming
- 1:15:20shows. Yeah.
- 1:15:23Thanks for having us guys. First and foremost, we've had a
- 1:15:25really good time. This has been really fun.
- 1:15:26It's. Been a week's.
- 1:15:28Show I know it's been really weird listening back to me on
- 1:15:30the podcast I. Love it, I don't like listening.
- 1:15:34To my own voice, but. Hey, me neither.
- 1:15:35So if you can edit that out, that would be great.
- 1:15:37Make it sound like Charlie. Yeah, so I'll be honest, we keep
- 1:15:41it nice and simple. If you go to linktree.com/the
- 1:15:45Busted Experience, you'll find everything you need.
- 1:15:48Links to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, all the shows that
- 1:15:52we're playing are all listed on there.

- 1:15:54You get the tickets. Couldn't make it more, couldn't
- 1:15:56make it more simple. If we could pay for you, we
- 1:15:58would. That's the last thing we can't
- 1:16:00we. Can't do that but.
- 1:16:01Everything else is served up for you, but yeah, our next couple
- 1:16:04of shows coming up will be in Milton Keynes at MK11 on the 8th
