Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right, he's done it again, lucks and survived a second
- 0:02Speaker 1: no confidence vote in four months.
- 0:04Speaker 2: There was a confidence vote in my leadership this morning
- 0:06Speaker 2: at our caucus meeting.
- 0:07Speaker 1: I have the full support of our caucus, and our
- 0:09Speaker 1: caucus is united and it is determined to win this election.
- 0:13Speaker 1: David Seymour, Deputy Prime Minister, Act Leader with me this morning, David,
- 0:16Speaker 1: good morning, Good morning. No changes for the coalition, right,
- 0:20Speaker 1: nothing's happened.
- 0:23Speaker 2: No, you know, I was saying last night it kind
- 0:27Speaker 2: of looks like from a distance that it's all just
- 0:30Speaker 2: a bunch of politicians in Wellington. But there are different
- 0:33Speaker 2: institutions and the political parties one thing, the government's another,
- 0:40Speaker 2: and whatever may be happening in one of the political parties,
- 0:43Speaker 2: the government itself is a sort of joint project of
- 0:47Speaker 2: three parties, continues to function very well. I mean, just
- 0:51Speaker 2: yesterday we released that we've had record results for taking
- 0:57Speaker 2: unenrolled children, getting them enrolled and back school in the
- 1:01Speaker 2: first six months of this year. And you know, today
- 1:05Speaker 2: we'll have more to say about applings the government is
- 1:08Speaker 2: doing which are actually very positive. Like what well I
- 1:12Speaker 2: told you now I have to kill me.
- 1:16Speaker 1: What about what about that pole unfortunately they are. What
- 1:20Speaker 1: about that poll last night, And it's not just that pole,
- 1:23Speaker 1: it's the polls that now show that, you know, every
- 1:26Speaker 1: pole we get, Opportunity gets a little inch closer to
- 1:31Speaker 1: actually crossing the five percent threshold. And then you have
- 1:34Speaker 1: Hipkins come out yesterday and say, well, it's up to
- 1:36Speaker 1: the voters. Now, it's up to the voters, and so
- 1:39Speaker 1: you could potentially have Opportunity to party Maldi, Green and
- 1:43Speaker 1: Labor and you start adding up the taxes and things
- 1:46Speaker 1: get pretty scary.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think it's really helpful that that pole
- 1:51Speaker 2: has put the proposition to people at this point, so
- 1:55Speaker 2: they can really weigh their art. This Opportunity Party for
- 2:00Speaker 2: sense itself of centrist. I note in TV one's coverage
- 2:03Speaker 2: last night they paced them right in the center as
- 2:06Speaker 2: the keystone of the parties and their horseshoe graphic. And
- 2:11Speaker 2: yet this is a party that wants to raise taxes
- 2:15Speaker 2: by about twenty five billions so that they can pay
- 2:18Speaker 2: everybody a welfare benefit. That's a pretty extraordinary policy that
- 2:24Speaker 2: if the Greens came out with it, we'd say, well,
- 2:26Speaker 2: that's a radically left policy. But even the Greens haven't
- 2:31Speaker 2: done anything like that I think as people further examined, which.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Is going to be what happens now right. I'm speaking
- 2:39Speaker 1: to Quilae one at seven o'clock this morning, so I
- 2:41Speaker 1: have some questions. But in terms of the PMS called
- 2:44Speaker 1: a rule opportunity out, do you think actually, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 1: given you say they're pretty much left to the Greens,
- 2:50Speaker 1: it was a good thing. And would you rule them
- 2:52Speaker 1: out too? I mean, you wouldn't prop up in case
- 2:55Speaker 1: they do go back on it. You wouldn't be going
- 2:57Speaker 1: into any coalition deals or negotiations with top involved, would you.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Well, I just work on the basis of policy. You know,
- 3:05Speaker 2: there are two main policies, tax every bit of land
- 3:10Speaker 2: and the cot what that would do to farms and
- 3:13Speaker 2: the value of farms. In facts, it's it's not just
- 3:15Speaker 2: the tax you pay on your land, it's what it'll
- 3:17Speaker 2: do to land value because it will become very expensive
- 3:20Speaker 2: to own land in New Zealand. That's a policy that
- 3:24Speaker 2: we just aren't abide. And then this idea that you know,
- 3:28Speaker 2: instead of having some people on welfare and actually doing
- 3:31Speaker 2: our best to get them back into work, we'll just say, look,
- 3:34Speaker 2: bugger it. Everyone gets an unemployment benefit here's your here's
- 3:38Speaker 2: your four or five hundred bucks a week. If you
- 3:41Speaker 2: want to work, you can, but we're not really interested.
- 3:44Speaker 2: That's that's an extraordinary thing. And then on.
- 3:51Speaker 1: That basis, David, we would never see act in government
- 3:54Speaker 1: with TOP Well.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I mean, look, the funny thing is they say that
- 3:59Speaker 2: actually those policies aren't that important to them and maybe
- 4:03Speaker 2: they could give them up.
- 4:04Speaker 3: So I'm just focusing.
- 4:05Speaker 1: On the Okay, so you're so you're saying you could
- 4:09Speaker 1: work with top of they had a sex change.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Well I didn't, that's what you're saying, right, I didn't
- 4:16Speaker 3: realize what this early show was like. But all all
- 4:20Speaker 3: I would say is that, you know, they say that
- 4:24Speaker 3: they could give up the two biggest policies, which makes
- 4:26Speaker 3: you wonder if really the Opportunity Party or perhaps the
- 4:30Speaker 3: Opportunist Party.
- 4:31Speaker 1: David Seymour at Party leader, DEPU Prime Minister. For more
