Latest / The imuRgency Room / Nicki Minaj 's MAGA Era Is A Mess...

- 0:00I've been really trying to avoid this conversation, but
- 0:02unfortunately, it is time that we talk about Miss Nicki Minaj.
- 0:07And if you've been living under a rock for the past couple of
- 0:09weeks, you may not know exactly what's going on or how bad it's
- 0:13necessarily gotten. Let me give you the Cliff Notes
- 0:15sketch you up. So basically, as of a couple of
- 0:18weeks ago, Nicki Minaj is now MAGA.
- 0:20Yes, she is not just your average Trump supporter.
- 0:23She actually is the Trump supporter, as in going to
- 0:27summits and conferences with the president, saying that he is not
- 0:30only doing a great job with everything in the country right
- 0:33now, but is in fact her favorite person.
- 0:36And going to the first ladies movie premiere completely on
- 0:39free will, all too seemingly either troll or I guess, like,
- 0:43express her views on things. I don't know.
- 0:46I just know that it looks really bad.
- 0:47And it is really bad because what is happening in the
- 0:50rhetoric that she's spreading is very harmful.
- 0:52And I think most people see it as that.
- 0:54But there is a large population of people that do not.
- 0:57And the reasonings for that track, should I say?
- 1:00And if we want to be real, this is not necessarily the biggest
- 1:03surprise because Miss Minaj has had a history of sometimes
- 1:06spewing some rather conservative or Republican rhetoric.
- 1:09My mind immediately goes to the 2020 vaccine denial, or at least
- 1:12skepticism that she was very public about on social media,
- 1:14talking about how you shouldn't trust a shot because her cousin
- 1:17got big balls from it or something.
- 1:18I don't know. But it seems like compared to
- 1:19back then, things have gotten so, so much worse.
- 1:23Because not only are we just now blatantly getting homophobic and
- 1:26transphobic rhetoric coming from her, we're also getting a spew
- 1:28of a bunch of other unfounded in conservative rhetoric around
- 1:31things like voter fraud and voter skepticism.
- 1:33Along with taking advantage of some of the things that are
- 1:35going by right now with the Epstein files, promoting, again,
- 1:38unfounded or should I say at least alleged allegations of her
- 1:42enemies being child schmiders. Yeah.
- 1:46Yeah. Life gets bad, and it's only
- 1:48getting worse. And that's the problem.
- 1:50That's the problem. It just continues to get worse.
- 1:53And the reason I'm even making this video is because recently,
- 1:56and as of recently, I mean, yesterday as I'm filming this,
- 1:59the Grammys happened. And the Grammys were great.
- 2:01I'm really happy with a lot of the Grammys results.
- 2:02I think that the people that I wanted to win did win.
- 2:05And there are even a couple of surprises that I was kind of
- 2:07here for, like Justin Bieber performing in his undies.
- 2:09Like, who would have expected that?
- 2:10But I mean, are are we mad? Although there were some things
- 2:13that I didn't necessarily love about the Grammys.
- 2:15I think for one, and I don't know if a lot of people are
- 2:17clocking this, but like the camera angles for some reason
- 2:20this year were just terrible. Like I think for a lot of
- 2:23people's performances, the artists did the best that they
- 2:25could, but like the cameraman just did not live up to the
- 2:28expectations. Like I'm thinking specifically
- 2:30for like Tyler, the Creator's performance as well as like I
- 2:32think Addison Rae, where like the cameraman just was not In
- 2:35Sync and the angles are too wide.
- 2:37It just wasn't giving what I think the vision was supposed to
- 2:40give. And the mics were all so low.
- 2:42But I'm getting besides the point.
- 2:43This is not a Grammys breakdown. But the reason I bring up the
- 2:45Grammys was because Onika was mentioned, and not in the best
- 2:49way. The host of the Grammys, Shevard
- 2:51Noah, made a joke pretty early on in the show, essentially
- 2:54prodding up the fact that Nicki Minaj was not at the Grammys and
- 2:57was implying that that was a good thing because of her recent
- 3:00mogification. And to which seemingly the
- 3:02entire arena applauded and cheered to.
- 3:05But caught on camera was Chrissy Teigen, who gave the thumbs up
- 3:09being like, yes, this is a great thing, I love this.
- 3:11Onika is over now. Honestly, when I turned on the
- 3:14Grammys, I missed this part. So I didn't see this.
- 3:16I ended up having to catch that clip on Twitter.
- 3:18And when I did, I saw a lot of other things, a lot of other
- 3:22things. Miss Mama was activated and
- 3:25let's just say that things got very problematic very fast
- 3:27because Nikki was quick to tweet and retaliation that and I
- 3:31quote, everyone knows Chrissy Teigen has slash had allegedly
- 3:36with the classic Chucky picture. And that was only the start.
- 3:39That was followed by a slew of other tweets talking about any
- 3:42and everything, talking about the host and reposting graphics
- 3:45from the barbs that are just inaccurate and then going to
- 3:48promote her podcast interview with some conservative lady.
- 3:50And you may be asking yourself, how the hell did we get here?
- 3:53How did someone that was lauded as one of the biggest allies of
- 3:56the queer community get to this point?
- 3:59And I'm there with you. I'm wondering the same thing.
- 4:01I'm just genuinely shocked how far this whole situation has
- 4:04gotten and around how this is on so much farther than trolling.
- 4:07Because I know a lot of people defend a lot of her actions by
- 4:09saying like oh she's just trolling she's just doing this,
- 4:11she's not actually being serious and that she has some master
- 4:14plan that we all just have to wait and see the results up.
- 4:16And when I hear this, it makes sense why there is like this
- 4:18pivot towards the mogification because these explanations sound
- 4:21almost identical to the ones that like 2016 Trumpers had.
- 4:25Even a lot of Trumpers that still support Trump do have
- 4:28around the sentiment of these both being trolls and
- 4:30masterminds that have like this grand scheme plan working out
- 4:33that the rest of the world are just too dumb or too tapped out
- 4:36of the scene to actually perceive and know.
- 4:38And there might genuinely be a plan here at play.
- 4:40I don't believe that to be so, but you know, benefit of the
- 4:43doubt. Let's say there is some plan at
- 4:44play. How many people have to be
- 4:46harmed and feel unsafe in the crossfire for you to get to that
- 4:50point? You know, like, again, as
- 4:51someone that has been such a reverence, safe space and ally
- 4:56to the queer community, ally to women and a proponent for
- 4:59women's empowerment, how can you then seemingly turn your back on
- 5:02that community by very outwardly supporting the party that is
- 5:06anti all of that? And not just that, but then
- 5:08going forward to use homophobic and transphobic rhetoric towards
- 5:12people that you don't like. I'm thinking about the way she
- 5:14was calling Don Lemon a sucker, both online and in clips on that
- 5:17podcast that she's going on relentlessly going after her
- 5:19sexuality. And then the whole comment of
- 5:21Chrissy Teigen, did we need to be transphobic?
- 5:22Like the answer to that clearly is no.
- 5:24Because especially given the state of the world that we're in
- 5:26right now and considering the fact that you're now aligning
- 5:29yourself with MAGA, who has made it very clear that they feel
- 5:33that trans people should not exist, To then go and cast
- 5:36speculation and use Terpu language against Chrissy Teigen
- 5:39to essentially just have a gotcha moment and to also
- 5:41essentially just be transphobic. Like I'm just going through the
- 5:44Twitter right now and this just sounds like someone's Republican
- 5:48Facebook auntie. Like most of the things that I'm
- 5:49seeing here is just either rage bait or unfinded accusations.
- 5:53And we talk a lot about grifters on this channel when it comes to
- 5:56like influencers and podcasters siding with one side or being a
- 5:59talking head from one point and then switching up when the money
- 6:02dries out or they find out that they're were being played.
- 6:04But I didn't expect to get to a timeline where a A list
- 6:07celebrity would do such a public grift.
- 6:09And I think this is so problematic because of the
- 6:11person that's doing it and because of the fan base that she
- 6:13has. Like the barbs are one of the
- 6:15most loyal fan bases on the Internet, like truly a force to
- 6:18be reckoned with. And I fuck with bars.
- 6:19But what I'm worried about in this instance is the fact that
- 6:22there are a lot of young and impressionable barbs that are
- 6:24seeing this stark shift that can be easily influenced to start
- 6:27going down the alt right pipeline because that's what
- 6:30this is. It's just another funnel through
- 6:31that. Like this shift, while more
- 6:33overt, is just another way to start thinking and believing
- 6:37conservative talking points and conservative beliefs.
- 6:39And like what's happening here and what's happening in Candace
- 6:42Owens's side of the Internet are pretty much the same thing.
- 6:45And if not the same thing, then very similar.
- 6:47And I really don't care as much about the Nicki Minaj, but as I
- 6:50do the impact of what she's saying and the people that she
- 6:53has influence over because those things are long lasting.
- 6:56Whether or not you believe what she's saying or supporting what
- 6:58she's saying fully, the fact that people are ingesting this
- 7:00content more frequently and almost normalizing it by just
- 7:03sort of letting it happen only again normalizes it, but also
- 7:06increases the acceptance of these ideas.
- 7:08And these ideas at hand are inherently harmful, especially
- 7:12given where we are in history and where we are in this
- 7:14country. You have militarized forces
- 7:16going around this country, terrorizing people
- 7:18indiscriminately, taking people out and disappearing people left
- 7:20and right. And somehow this is the time to
- 7:22endorse the president for starting all of that.
- 7:26I don't know. I'm not buying it.
- 7:27And I don't know how this ends, nor do I know if there's an
- 7:30actual comeback from all of this because for better or worse,
- 7:33this is going to go down in history and not in a good way.
- 7:35And I've been seeing a lot of people say online that like,
- 7:37they're not taking this seriously or holding anyone
- 7:40accountable because we still let Kanye be in the conversation
- 7:42despite everything that he said and done and how he supported
- 7:45Trump in the past. And personally, I think there's
- 7:46two things here. 1, I think we should have handled his
- 7:49situation much earlier and we should have done something about
- 7:51that or been more vocal about not supporting that.
- 7:54And two, I think the times in which both of these things
- 7:57happened are so vastly different.
- 7:59Like, I understand the concept of a double standard, but at
- 8:01that time things were still bad. Trump was bad.
- 8:04Being a Trump supporter at that time was bad.
- 8:05But comparing that to now, giving vocal support to the
- 8:08administration now is a completely different sentiment.
- 8:12Things were bad then back in 2016, but things are
- 8:14exponentially worse now. We're inching, actually, we're
- 8:18not even inching. The fascism for all intents and
- 8:20purposes is here. And this country is looking more
- 8:22and more authoritarian by the day, giving enthusiastic support
- 8:26at any anytime Not great. But to give it now, when things
- 8:29are ramping up and things are getting increasingly violent and
- 8:32increasingly dangerous, to come out and be MAGA now means more,
- 8:35hurts more, and just generally looks worse.
- 8:37And I hate that it's gotten to this point.
- 8:39And I hate that it's Nicki Minaj that we're talking about,
- 8:40because, again, I've loved her music for so long.
- 8:43But I fear in this case things have just gone too far.
