- 0:17As veterans, we begin new lives when we leave our military
- 0:21service. What is faith?
- 0:24How do we incorporate faith in service and after what resources
- 0:29are available? Who do we talk with about faith?
- 0:33These are some of the many questions that one may ponder in
- 0:37searching for answers to the meaning of life.
- 0:41Join The Revivalists and let's search for some answers
- 0:44together. Luke 923 Then he said to them,
- 0:49All, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves,
- 0:53and take up their cross daily, and follow me.
- 1:17There we go. Sorry, Fox, I think we're still
- 1:20working out some intro video issues.
- 1:25Welcome to the Revivalist radio show.

- 1:31hosts, and. I'm Daryl Hartley or other
- 1:38countries. Darrell, he's been a little
- 1:43what's, what's a good a little hatchy?
- 1:45That's a good word, right? We'll make it a little hatchy.
- 1:49I, I stopped by Central Market on the way after my dental
- 1:55appointment. I got the, got the, I got the
- 1:59pearly whites all power washed. That's what that was the word I
- 2:03came up with and my my teeth are all power washed and Central
- 2:09Market hat is having their big hatch chili pepper thing, you
- 2:13know. So anyways, I bought some hatch
- 2:16Chili Peppers. He was coming over to get some
- 2:20what we decided to go ahead and Co host again this week in
- 2:24person because thanks. Thanks.
- 2:30This is one of my good friends. Hey, but love you too.
- 2:35So we thought we'd go ahead. And anyway, so I bet him some
- 2:40Hatch Chili Peppers with some Hatch cheese and some crackers,
- 2:45man. This garlic parmesan crackers.
- 2:48Yeah, organic. Mine organic.
- 2:51Yes, Roy, Black rash, the cherries.
- 2:56I love my organic, love my organic stuff.
- 2:59Oh thanks, he says. Have a great show too.
- 3:02So This is why am I brain cramping on names.
- 3:08I should go look at my Instagram and I could give us your name.
- 3:13I forgot I'm horrible at names. That does not sound good.
- 3:18I know, but he's coming out with his book pretty soon.
- 3:22Ibogaine. He's great with the ibogaine
- 3:25discussion There you go Scott wrestler.
- 3:27I'm sorry, Scott, I just told you I'm horrible with names and.
- 3:32It took three years to find out. Mine no.
- 3:37So it's been it's been a doozy of a day and he he follows up
- 3:43and says Scott says, hi, it's OG to you.
- 3:46So I've had a day folks, you know, I pre recorded my a show a
- 3:52while ago for Saturday for pain to purpose.
- 3:54So if y'all are interested in finding out some of the scoop on
- 3:59the claims process side of things for veterans, you need to
- 4:03make sure you watch my show on Saturday with Rick Ressler.
- 4:09It will it will be very informative for you guys and you
- 4:15know, great discussions on that. So and then my daughter say a
- 4:21prayer for my daughter. She went to the emergency room
- 4:24last night. So I had kind of a pit stop to
- 4:29drop off a few things for her, gave her some flowers and, you
- 4:34know, a little bit good Mama TLC for my daughter.
- 4:37And you know, so anyways, that's where we are.
- 4:42You want to lead us into prayer? So you're going to you're going
- 4:46to do the reading and I'll do the prayer and we're going to do
- 4:49the interaction because 50 everyone is a heavy, heavy
- 4:54chapter, particularly with the moral injury involved there as
- 4:57well. And you know, what we've been
- 5:00talking about after going through Genesis, we're going to
- 5:05take several episodes to really, I think you slice it up and
- 5:11really talk about the common themes that we have found with
- 5:15Genesis. And, you know, I think it's
- 5:17great for our whole discussion about moral injury to healing
- 5:21and recovery. And we didn't make sure that we
- 5:24cover that. There we go.
- 5:27Get us a little bit more centered in here on the screen.
- 5:30And I felt like I was cutting off half of my face there.
- 5:35One of these days I will have my studio here at the house, fully
- 5:40decked out. And and or plus your.
- 5:44My RV on wheels? Yes.
- 5:46The studio on the wheels. Yes.
- 5:48Studio on the wheels. All right, Daryl.
- 5:51Hey, go ahead. And then the Father, Son and the
- 5:54Holy Spirit Father, never. We thank you for this wonderful
- 5:57day. A day, Father, certainly there
- 5:59was never promised. We don't guarantee to us,
- 6:02because of who we know that you are as Father, God, Lord and
- 6:04Creator, as our Father, and as your children, you granted to us
- 6:09none. Lords, Lord, we thank you for
- 6:12you. We thank you for Christ Jesus.
- 6:13We thank you for the Holy Spirit.
- 6:15We thank you for all the wonderful spiritual and personal
- 6:18gifts you must throw upon us daily.
- 6:20We thank you for health, faith, love, hope, fitness, and
- 6:24Wellness. Bless our families and our
- 6:26friends, those that are praying for us, those that we pray for.
- 6:31And Lord, let us continue to watch over those.
- 6:33Lord, if you place in our presence that we may be the
- 6:36pinnacle of modeling who you are to them.
- 6:40It's a loving, wonderful name that is Christ Jesus.
- 6:42In the presence of the Holy Spirit, that your daughters,
- 6:45sons, friends and servants, we say Amen, Amen, Amen, and the
- 6:49Father, Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
- 6:52All right, let's jump into. I already have it ready to pop
- 6:57up here on screen. We're going to read Genesis
- 7:01chapter 50. Take your time.
- 7:04Yep. All right.
- 7:07Joseph threw himself on his father and wept over him and
- 7:11kissed him. Remember, Jacob's dead now.
- 7:14Right then Joseph directed the physicians in his service to
- 7:18embalm his father Israel. So the physicians embalmed him,
- 7:23taking a full 40 days, for that was the time required for
- 7:27embalming, and the Egyptians mourned him for 70 days.
- 7:32When the days of mourning had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh's
- 7:36court, If I have found favor in your eyes, speak to Pharaoh for
- 7:40me. Tell him my father made me swear
- 7:44an oath and said, I'm about to die.
- 7:47Bury me in the tomb I dug for myself in the land of Canaan.
- 7:51Now let me go up and bury my father.
- 7:54Then I will return. Pharaoh said.
- 7:57Go up and bury your father as he made you swear to do so.
- 8:01Joseph went out to bury his father.
- 8:03All Pharaoh's officials accompanied him, the dignitaries
- 8:07of his court, and all the dignitaries of Egypt, besides
- 8:11all the members of Joseph's household and his brothers and
- 8:15those belonging to his father's household.
- 8:17Only their children and their flocks and herds were left in
- 8:20Goshen. Chariots and horsemen also went
- 8:24with them. It was a very large company.
- 8:27When they reached the threshing floor of a Todd near the Jordan,
- 8:31they lamented loudly and bitterly, and there Joseph
- 8:35observed A7 day period of mourning for his father.
- 8:39When the Canaanites who lived there saw the morning at the
- 8:42threshing of a Todd, they said the Egyptians are holding a
- 8:46solemn ceremony of mourning. That is why that place near the
- 8:50Jordan is called Abel Mizrahim. So Jacob's sons did as he
- 8:56commanded them. They carried him to the land of
- 8:59Canaan and buried him in The Cave in the field of Macphaila
- 9:03near Monterey, which Abraham had bought along with the field as a
- 9:08burial place from Ephron the Hittite.
- 9:11After burying his father, Joseph returned to Egypt together with
- 9:15his brothers and all the others who had gone with him to bury
- 9:18his father. Joseph reassures his brothers.
- 9:23When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they
- 9:26said, What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us
- 9:31back for all the wrongs we did to him?
- 9:34So they sent word to Joseph saying, Your father left these
- 9:38instructions before he died. This is what you are to say to
- 9:41Joseph. I ask you to forgive your
- 9:44brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you
- 9:48so badly. Now please forgive the sins of
- 9:51the servants of the God of your father.
- 9:53When their message came to him, Joseph wept.
- 9:57His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him.
- 10:02We are your slaves, they said. But Joseph said to them, don't
- 10:07be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
- 10:11You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good, to
- 10:15accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
- 10:19So then don't be afraid. I will provide for you and your
- 10:25children. And he reassured them and spoke
- 10:28kindly to them. The death of Joseph Joseph
- 10:33stayed in Egypt along with all his father's family.
- 10:37He lived 110 years and saw the third generation of Ephraim's
- 10:42children. Also, the children of Makir, son
- 10:46of Vanessa, were placed at birth on Joseph's knees.
- 10:51Then Joseph said to his brothers, I am about to die, but
- 10:55God will surely come to your aid and take you out of this land to
- 10:59the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
- 11:04And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, God will
- 11:09surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up
- 11:13from this place. So Joseph died at the age of
- 11:16110, and after they embalmed him, he was placed in a coffin
- 11:21in Egypt. These are the words of our.
- 11:25Lord and the Lord had His blessing to the reading,
- 11:28hearing, and professing about faith in His Word.
- 11:34Wow. You know this, it is heavy.
- 11:38You know, this is, I don't know, there's a part of me that has
- 11:42really come to love Joseph as a character, but as a right, but
- 11:50he just very endearing, right? Very endearing and never.
- 11:56Mind, he was good looking and well built.
- 11:59Looks are something, but they're not everything you know but.
- 12:04Evil. Come on, the guys with Gargoyle
- 12:05standing in front of you not going to talk to him.
- 12:09And she knows that to be true. The Lord will say, well, Eva, I
- 12:13have a question for you. Why didn't you choose the
- 12:15gargoyle Lord? Now you know, I just no, no
- 12:19gargoyles. I've had gargoyles in my life.
- 12:21I didn't want to have another. One, yeah, I've had gargoyles,
- 12:28but there's probably been a time or two where I was not very good
- 12:33looking either, right? We all have.
- 12:35Gargoyle though. I'm I think I'm better looking
- 12:40now than I have had in some of my other times in my life.
- 12:45We both can, we both can attest to that, right?
- 12:48And and the people we were in our youth, they're no match for
- 12:52us today. Exactly 0 Yeah, I mean, we
- 12:55mature and. Shut them down.
- 12:58Well, we all mature in life. You know, This is a
- 13:02particularly, I would think, heavy chapter because we saw
- 13:08this evolution, we saw his full life schedule, you know, life
- 13:14event, these big critical things, brothers.
- 13:17Outlived him. Yeah, but it was kind of funny
- 13:22how fear on their behalf was sneaking in.
- 13:27And you know what? They would have done the same to
- 13:31him. You know, part of me as I read
- 13:34it was thinking, are they fixing up, trying to plot to kill him
- 13:38again? You know I mean.
- 13:40That that, that tinge was still there, right?
- 13:43Right. I mean, it's almost like I
- 13:45wouldn't have put it past them. I mean, he knew he was dying,
- 13:51but what if? What if?
- 13:53I'm going to play it. What if, what if he was actually
- 13:57poisoned by his brothers because they had that resentment again,
- 14:01I mean. Well, you know, they would have
- 14:03been summarily executed. That's Joseph we're talking
- 14:07about. Pharaoh would have snipped it
- 14:08out or with officials or whatever.
- 14:10They wouldn't have had a leg to stand on in that play.
- 14:13Benjamin, too, you know, I was not involved.
- 14:16Well, you know, brothers, so. I don't know.
- 14:20You know, it's, it's I, I think there's the side of it about
- 14:26the, there's a part that I was, I was reading that there's that
- 14:30honorable procession side of things that we experienced with
- 14:35military ceremonials, you know, burials that there was a very
- 14:40formal process that you and I both have seen on the right.
- 14:47So tell, tell us about that. So private first class Isabella
- 14:54Gonzalez was laid to rest at the Dallas Fort Worth Cemetery last
- 14:58Sunday. Not this one.
- 15:01Just passed that Sunday. Before and before that, she had
- 15:04a ceremony at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano,
- 15:07Carrollton. Epic.
- 15:12And you know no one you know where everyone knows that we all
- 15:15have an expiration date. But she was actually killed in
- 15:20battle, 19 years of age. Never see any descendants be on
- 15:26or on. But as our president gloryingly
- 15:29said, whatever this family needs now and going forward, they
- 15:34shall have people say what they want to say and how they feel
- 15:39and think about President Trump. But he's never, never lied about
- 15:44assistant veterans in their time of need or the time of
- 15:47discomfort or whatever. For those of us with the VA, we,
- 15:50we can test it. But her services on both days
- 15:53are very moving. There was a dry eye in the
- 15:55house, got to see her parents and family applause and
- 16:00personal, no photos or anything like that, but a hug.
- 16:04And they saw the chaplains badge.
- 16:06So they're, you know, they, they're, they're looking for as
- 16:08much comfort as possible. They have a large family.
- 16:12There's a large military presence in their family as
- 16:14well. If we go back and we talk about
- 16:16moral injury, this is going to stick with her mother, her
- 16:19father and her her family for the remainder of their lives,
- 16:22but Isabella will be celebrating for generations to come.
- 16:27You know, in some ways as you're saying that, and I'm thinking,
- 16:31you know, Jacob was one of those people that we're still
- 16:35celebrating and honoring. I mean, maybe not formally, but
- 16:39we are honoring his, you know, what he did because he gave us
- 16:45Joseph and gave us the 12 tribes.
- 16:48And you know, some of them are the ascendants right before
- 16:52Jesus that, you know, I think one of the things that I don't
- 16:58know, maybe maybe I'm wrong, but maybe you've seen it.
- 17:03But I know veterans who have had a loss of somebody in their, you
- 17:10know, group of friends, you know, they're soldiers and they
- 17:14lose that ability to cry. I've lost people.
- 17:19But I'm talking about in the, you know, you lose that ability
- 17:23to cry. But Joseph, who had lost so many
- 17:28years with his with his family, had reunited with his father.
- 17:35And and, you know, I love that there's this open discussion
- 17:40about him as a man weeping for his father.
- 17:45Is is. And today there's someone come
- 17:51right and I can, I can give you instances, you know, many
- 17:54prisons across the globe on Mother's Day, you can't get on
- 17:58that telephone. On Father's Day, every phone is
- 18:01on. And it's because more times than
- 18:05not, father was not available. Outside of impregnating your
- 18:08mother, father had other places and things to do.
- 18:13So we would say so the disconnect from fatherhood to
- 18:19sonship to daughterhood and such, to family, generational,
- 18:23being able to just grasp what we're talking about today.
- 18:26It's so uncommon because the father is absent in the home,
- 18:30the father is even dead in prison streets, another family
- 18:36with other families and so on and so forth.
- 18:39We must attest the fact that as Father God is our Father, He
- 18:45would direct our paths and guide our steps, that those
- 18:48relationships can be salvageable if both people involved desire
- 18:53that to occur. And I promise and guarantee all
- 18:56of you who may have a disconnection with your Father,
- 19:00find your Father if He's still with us, and make peace with
- 19:04them. Whether the Father reciprocates
- 19:06or not. Make peace with them and our
- 19:09Father in Heaven shall bless and reward you.
- 19:13That's incredible. You know, I think part of it is
- 19:16not just something obviously that is affected families who
- 19:22experienced prison ship, but I would think there's a big
- 19:26portion of those families who the fathers and mothers from
- 19:32military service have have had some broken bonds as well.
- 19:37I think it's the right term, broken bonds.
- 19:39There is a certain right. And how do you, you know,
- 19:43navigating that reconnection so that we get get families moving
- 19:50into the healing and recovery? Fact.
- 19:52Yeah. And it it it may take a week
- 19:58among decades for you as a human immortal.
- 20:03To come to the realization is that you're taking poison,
- 20:07expecting them to die. That's not going to happen.
- 20:11The person who's been injured must reconcile to themselves
- 20:15that I cannot live this way any longer and I must forgive the
- 20:19person. No matter how heinous the crime
- 20:21is, you must forgive them because our Father in Heaven
- 20:25forgives us and forgets. That's what the last part we
- 20:29don't do. We forgive, but there's still
- 20:31the siblings have not forgetted. When we come to the realization
- 20:35that we have to forgive and forget, and if it comes up, we
- 20:38have to pray it away, then we can make those reconciliations
- 20:41with mothers. So mothers cannot escape this
- 20:44either. But we're talking about the
- 20:45fathership right now. When fathers have injured the
- 20:48child by disappearing acts and such, the child will grow up to
- 20:53be this wonderful person. One outstanding image that can
- 20:59appear is Shaquille O'Neal. He does not have any formal
- 21:04communication with his father. That's the way it has to be for
- 21:07him. And his father will go around
- 21:09and say, well, I gave him the name.
- 21:11Well, we know what we know what you did right.
- 21:13And the reason you don't have this relationship with Shaquille
- 21:16is because when Shaquille needed a father, you were not present.
- 21:22And the mother went and found someone who's going to accept
- 21:25her and her child and subsequent children for whom they are and
- 21:30what they can be. A person can look at you because
- 21:33we're looking at we're looking at the global audience here.
- 21:36You can surmise where the person is, but you don't understand
- 21:40what it took even I to get to where we are and where we're
- 21:42still going. You have no idea.
- 21:45And there is dysfunction in the in in the family tree, but we
- 21:50have to navigate away from it. We have to prune it.
- 21:53That way it doesn't affect us the way it was because it's easy
- 21:56for you to push plate when you've been morally injured by
- 21:59your parent. A child only wants to love their
- 22:02parent and have it be reciprocal.
- 22:04What we see here is Joseph, even at 13 years, he was away from
- 22:09Israel. Jacob It was always reciprocal.
- 22:15Yeah, the, the distance, you know, distance makes the heart
- 22:19grow fonder. But they both went through what
- 22:22they thought were mourning processes only to, you know,
- 22:26fortunately been reunited. And there was, I was reading a
- 22:30few weeks ago as there's a podcast, Maybe it was that there
- 22:35was this woman who decided to figure out where her family tree
- 22:40LED. She knew that she was an adopted
- 22:44young woman from, I think it was Korea.
- 22:48All right, so you can see where I'm probably going with this
- 22:51story. Her father was an American who
- 22:55served in Korea, had fallen in love with this woman and was not
- 23:00able to, you know, go further because guess what?
- 23:06He got sent back to America unbeknownst to him she was born
- 23:13and the mother didn't have any way to connect with him.
- 23:17This was adna test that she had done and found him and there was
- 23:25AI think the connection was that there was also some other half
- 23:29sister or something that was back in free as well that he got
- 23:33to get reunited with both of them and documentary it might
- 23:38have been yeah you know what story I'm telling It was really
- 23:42I. Think I've browse through it in
- 23:45my own, but he's not the only one.
- 23:47Right. It's happened, it's happened
- 23:50plenty of times, but there is that aspect of moral injury.
- 23:55I mean, there, you know, we heard about it even with like
- 23:58World War One or World Two couples got married, you know,
- 24:04had sex. They get, you know, go off to
- 24:07war and unfortunately perish. There's a moral injury from that
- 24:11standpoint as well. There was a lady that I need to
- 24:16reach out. I need to reach out to her.
- 24:18Sharon Bannister, so beautiful lady.
- 24:22She was a speaker of ours. She was our keynote for Head
- 24:26Memorial Day this year. And she's a Gold Star daughter.
- 24:31Her father had perished in Vietnam.
- 24:35And so, you know, there is that moral injury that happens in
- 24:39some of these incidents. It's not always because of, you
- 24:44know, siblings being nefarious. I didn't have to use this word
- 24:48twice today. Nefarious and judge.
- 24:54I was wanting attention. Sorry, guys.
- 24:56She's like, I want to join. You know, it's not always always
- 25:00going to be because somebody's acting nefarious that there's
- 25:03some moral injury that's happening and being able to
- 25:08navigate well, how do we get past the this moral injury side
- 25:15and move it into healing recovery?
- 25:17If we wrote a book, it'd be volume.
- 25:20In fact, it may take up half of the Library of Congress on
- 25:24historical value of reconciliation with those who
- 25:28morally injured you. And sometimes you can do it.
- 25:32That doesn't mean you're going to still have the same status
- 25:35you had previously with the person.
- 25:37But when we are, when it's incumbent upon us to say I'm
- 25:44sorry, I apologize, I apologize, I'm sorry, and attempt to build
- 25:49from the remnants of what was torn down.
- 25:52That's what's significant. Now they can give you all sorts
- 25:55of symbols on their hands, all the colorful metaphors that come
- 25:58out of their mouths about they don't want to, you know, say or
- 26:01be around you. But you do your portion, and the
- 26:04Lord thy God will complete what remains.
- 26:07I think what was particularly beautiful about this story was
- 26:12the level of honor as we, you know, close out Chapter 50 was
- 26:20was Joseph's commitment to his father in honoring his father's
- 26:26last wishes. But then you also had the
- 26:29Pharaoh who says, yes, we support you and, you know, go on
- 26:36your journey. You know, as we were reading
- 26:40that, I was thinking, how many of us have our wills?
- 26:43How many of us have, how many have us have put together what
- 26:49we want our last wishes to be? If you don't do it, your state
- 26:53will do it for you. Right.
- 26:55And you're going to leave it up to people to make some decisions
- 27:00that, you know, we never had the discussion, right?
- 27:05You know, how do you, how do you do you know what your mother or
- 27:09father want? You know, I mean, we never had
- 27:13that discussion with my mother when she passed away.
- 27:16Where? What did she?
- 27:17Want. So he was making a video today.
- 27:20Y'all if you see this video you know I'm not here.
- 27:24This is what I want. No, what I'm getting at is that
- 27:35that, you know, honoring those wishes are so important, right?
- 27:42And that the provisions were already there.
- 27:45To the letter Joseph. Did it?
- 27:47Yeah. That, you know, he, he knew that
- 27:50he wanted to return where, you know, the rest of the family was
- 27:54buried. That was something.
- 27:56The provisions were already there.
- 27:58And you don't have to expend any other funds other than going
- 28:03through the mourning process itself and get the body there.
- 28:07You made Joseph promise him. Well, yeah, that was last.
- 28:11Well, that's his last words. Too that was the end of 48 on
- 28:17putting his hand on his thigh right that he said he would he
- 28:22was going to do what he said it's it's not just a matter of
- 28:27you know what somebody says, but if you're not committed to them.
- 28:31This was this gets back to integrity and and right, I mean,
- 28:36that's that's pretty important integrity and being a man of his
- 28:40word. And Joseph knew that his son,
- 28:45sorry, Jacob knew that Joseph was going to be a man of his
- 28:49word because I think he had some doubts about whether the rest of
- 28:53the boys were going to. Plenty of them.
- 28:55It's self for Benjamin. Right, right.
- 28:58Except for Benjamin, I think there would have been some
- 29:00serious doubts about whether what?
- 29:04Well, he read down the list and said he went down the list.
- 29:07Yeah, right. Yeah, he.
- 29:10Went down, he. Knew he knew.
- 29:12He knew, right? And.
- 29:13And so if we have the same insight in foresight, how far
- 29:18along can we be? But the Scriptures teach us we
- 29:21have not, because we ask not, and we perish for a lack of
- 29:24knowledge. So we go to the Father sincerely
- 29:29and ask. It may not be on your time
- 29:32frame, but He'll do it. And you don't have to ask Him
- 29:35once. You have to keep asking the
- 29:36same. God is not a God who repeats
- 29:40Himself. Yeah, it he's kind of like,
- 29:44didn't you hear me? Can you hear me?
- 29:46I already. Got you.
- 29:48I already said that fear. Not.
- 29:50Fear not so it was, you know the I love always reading the notes
- 29:56that are in my NIV study Bible. And you know, this gets back to
- 30:01what I was saying while ago. Now that Jacob or Israel was
- 30:05dead, the brothers feared revenge.
- 30:09That's that word fear. We just got to mention it feared
- 30:12revenge. Because they would have done the
- 30:14same. Thing right?
- 30:15Could he really have forgiven them for selling him into
- 30:19slavery? But to their surprise, Joseph
- 30:23not only forgave them, but reassured them, offering to care
- 30:27for them and their families. Joseph's forgiveness was
- 30:30complete. He demonstrated how God
- 30:33graciously accepts us even though we don't deserve it
- 30:37because God Forgives us when we have ignored, even when we have
- 30:42ignored or rejected Him, we should graciously forgive
- 30:46others. I'm saying that because it
- 30:49reiterates something that you were saying a while ago.
- 30:51We may learn how to forgive, but we don't necessarily know how to
- 30:56forget. And that's the hard part where
- 30:59we keep kind of going on repeat, right?
- 31:03Like the remember the, you know how the album spins around and
- 31:07it repeats? Yeah.
- 31:09And it gets. Get to the end, come back and
- 31:11put it back down. Yeah, but but even when you get
- 31:14a scratch on there, it repeats the same thing and I think.
- 31:19That's wax evil, I mean. I think that they thought that
- 31:23they were going to get the same issue.
- 31:26We'll see, man. Now he the gig is up, right?
- 31:30The gig is up. They know he knows that we'd
- 31:34caused all of this and he forgave us.
- 31:38He knew when they first came to Egypt who they were.
- 31:43Not a news crash yet. He he knew.
- 31:46But they're thinking in their hearts and minds the same way
- 31:50that they would have done. It could have been them.
- 31:53Right, right. They wouldn't have forgiven him
- 31:55that they'd have finished them off.
- 31:58Well, he could have, you know, Joseph could have very well.
- 32:01He could told all of them, hey, I'm bringing dad to Egypt and
- 32:07you guys can stay there, right? I mean, what's going to happen?
- 32:10We didn't ever talk about that option.
- 32:12We're going to get to it because we're going to tie in with the
- 32:14story in. But but think about it.
- 32:17I mean, if Joseph had a vindictive, A vindictive heart
- 32:22at all, wanted any kind of retribution against his
- 32:25brothers, he would have said you guys are all going to stay in
- 32:29Egypt or stay back in Canaan and perish.
- 32:33I don't care, you know, but. My father and Benjamin.
- 32:37Won't, right? Right.
- 32:39Because that was a choice. But you remember, he wept.
- 32:45He wept when he first met because he knew who they were.
- 32:48But that love was there. But guess what?
- 32:50He, he was, he's a man of God. And I'm getting the bills.
- 32:55Can you imagine? All the goodness from God to put
- 32:59on parchment paper or papyrus or whatever to, to, to to present
- 33:04this to us. Are we as forgiving and
- 33:10passionate about our beliefs as Joseph?
- 33:12No, we're not. We should get to that place that
- 33:15we can't. Because if anybody had any
- 33:18reason to be angry and befiled by the name of the Lord, it
- 33:22would be Joseph. But he did not.
- 33:25It's, it's not because Scripture is silent and we don't know
- 33:28because if, because we know Moses is the author of this book
- 33:33he wrote. He wrote the vast majority of it
- 33:35anyway. If there was something that was
- 33:40not supposed to be written, it wouldn't have been written.
- 33:42So yes, Joseph was human. Yes, Joseph was morph.
- 33:47Yes, Joseph probably had his time of doubt and such.
- 33:49Because I'm going to tell you this, when the Baker and the
- 33:55Butler was the Baker and the cupbearer were told what their
- 33:59fates were going to be, Joseph admonished them to tell Pharaoh
- 34:04that he was in prison for something he did not do.
- 34:09There's no reason for me to be here.
- 34:11And they forgot all of like they forgot about David out in the
- 34:14field, right? They forgot all about Joseph and
- 34:17Joseph toy more until Pharaoh couldn't interpret those dreams.
- 34:23And if you can't interpret the cane dreams, you're going to get
- 34:25executed. They knew that if it had not
- 34:29been for the cupbearer, all of them been wiped out.
- 34:33I. I think the biggest thing is,
- 34:39you know, we tend to think that we have these bad things that
- 34:43happen in our lives And, and you know, how many times have I
- 34:48talked about my own car wreck? It has been a blessing in
- 34:51disguise. I mean, this whole thing about
- 34:55their brothers selling him into slavery was a blessing in
- 34:59disguise that was lit. That's what led to the
- 35:03fulfillment of the original dream way back when.
- 35:07And he got and and Joseph's kindly telling his brothers,
- 35:13don't worry, God had a plan for all this.
- 35:15It wouldn't want us to eat. God made it.
- 35:19Yeah, ain't that crazy how that happened.
- 35:22Maybe with? A little crooked smile.
- 35:27So the note in here says God brought good from the brothers
- 35:32evil deed Potiphar's wives falls back decision.
- 35:36Remember, Remember that way back at the beginning about this, you
- 35:40know, once he got sold into slavery, that this was he, he
- 35:45was, he was, he was sold to them, right?
- 35:51And. Immediately.
- 35:53And the cupbearers neglect and seven years of famine.
- 35:58The experiences in Joseph's life taught him that God brings good
- 36:04from evil for those who trust him.
- 36:07So did you see on social media there's a guy who is taking a 30
- 36:12day challenge to act like a Christian and believe that God
- 36:19exists? He's a Muslim, isn't he?
- 36:22No, I'm asking. You, I think he was a non, he
- 36:26was like like agnostic and he decided to take on this
- 36:31challenge. What if he actually starts, you
- 36:35know, acting and believing that that there is a God?
- 36:40And I don't know how far he's gotten in the journey, but even
- 36:44after the third, I think some time of it, I don't remember for
- 36:48sure how many days, but he was determining that believing in
- 36:54something was way better than believing in nothing, that there
- 36:57was positive reinforcement that was coming in because he was he
- 37:04was choosing to believe versus not believing.
- 37:08Right. Imagine everybody.
- 37:15Where would you be right now if you had no belief?
- 37:19There are people who exist who don't, such as the person we're
- 37:22speaking about right now. But what about you?
- 37:25What if your belief was minimal or non existent?
- 37:28Where would you be? Ponder that.
- 37:30You don't have to answer today. Ponder that.
- 37:33Joseph had every rational reason to discount the fact that who he
- 37:38was, who he was birthed with and by and the Lord I got, he did
- 37:43neither. The Scriptures are clear.
- 37:48God blessed him wherever he was. Don't you want that?
- 37:53Don't you want those blessed? I do, I do, right?
- 37:58You want those things because they only come from him.
- 38:01They don't come from us. When somebody gives you
- 38:04something, they are compelled by the Holy Spirit to do it, not
- 38:08because they're nice people. They're compelled by the Holy
- 38:11Spirit to do it. Without the Holy Spirit, they're
- 38:13you think there's mayhem and, and, and goofing off going on in
- 38:16the world. Now, if the Holy Spirit wasn't
- 38:19here, no, but you, you'd be boarding your house up, never
- 38:22mind locking the doors and putting the alarm systems on.
- 38:25Crime would just be if you didn't have the police.
- 38:28For those of you who don't like the police, if you didn't have
- 38:30the police, do you know how much crime would actually happen?
- 38:33It would be like the purge 24/7, right?
- 38:37Could you imagine the purge 24/7 It'd.
- 38:40Be legal. Can you imagine?
- 38:43I just. I don't.
- 38:44Like him? Let's go over there and get him.
- 38:47You know, that's tough. I mean, careful what you ask
- 38:50for. You're good.
- 38:51I mean there there are consequences to things, so
- 38:55careful what you ask for. Joseph was not a bad actor at
- 38:59all. Not apparently, I mean, not, not
- 39:03that, not that, and not any indicators that I read War
- 39:09runner price. Let's see, Let's get to this
- 39:14comment on verse 24. This verse sets the stage for
- 39:20what would begin to happen in Exodus and come to completion in
- 39:24Joshua. God was going to make Jacob's
- 39:27family into a great nation, lead them out of Egypt, and bring
- 39:31them into the land He had promised them.
- 39:33The nation would rely heavily on this promise, and Joseph
- 39:37emphasized his belief that God would do what he had promised.
- 39:42And you have to think about it, folks, nothing up to that point
- 39:46gave any kind of indicator that God would do anything different.
- 39:51I mean that's date. The scripture said I change not
- 39:55said the Lord. There may be some areas where
- 39:59people say, well that's a contradiction.
- 40:00When he did change his mind, He's God, He can do whatever you
- 40:03want to do you. Mean like women.
- 40:07And again, when we get to heaven, he won't be there with
- 40:10that scroll. It's like, right, It's going to
- 40:15hit. It's going to hit this.
- 40:16It's like, wow, man, even. Really.
- 40:22So for the other folks that don't know, you know, when we
- 40:25first started recording a revivalist, I was like, man, I
- 40:28have AI have a question. He has a question.
- 40:30God and I I I was telling Daryl last week.
- 40:35I said, you know, I don't think I kept up with my questions for
- 40:39God lady. And he goes, don't worry you'll
- 40:41think about it. They.
- 40:42Will be revealed believe. Me.
- 40:45That's another book. Exactly that will be in the
- 40:49Library of Heaven. It's Congress, right?
- 40:51Yeah, it's. It's what did you mean by this
- 40:54God you have? One more.
- 40:57Yeah, just one. More curious people want it out.
- 41:04All right, so getting in. 26 The book of Genesis gives us rich
- 41:11descriptions of the lives of many great men and women who
- 41:14walked with God. They sometimes succeeded and
- 41:18often failed. Yet we learn much by reading the
- 41:21biographies of these people. Where did they get their
- 41:24motivation and courage? They got it by realizing God was
- 41:28with them despite their inadequacies.
- 41:31Knowing this should encourage us to be faithful to God, to rely
- 41:35on Him for guidance, and to utilize the potential He has
- 41:39given us. Potential.
- 41:40Think about potential and. What was that word?
- 41:44Be intentional. Well, that's my word for this
- 41:47year. We have to be intentional about
- 41:49our potential, OK? We need to write that down.
- 41:54Yes, be intentional about your potential because if you don't
- 42:00do what's outlined by the Lord our God, you know what He'll do?
- 42:04You'll give to somebody else who's less than you and you will
- 42:08see the benefits of what you could have done to what's being
- 42:12done by this other individual or series of individuals.
- 42:15It's like somebody who steals your copyright or your trademark
- 42:19or whatever. It wasn't for them, but they
- 42:23have it. But they'll reap less benefits
- 42:25of it than you will because you still, you don't have to have it
- 42:29on the paper. It's here and it's here, and
- 42:32that's how we have to have a Lord like God in our hearts and
- 42:35our minds, our souls. Who is this?
- 42:37Well, I think the biggest thing that I was thinking of is you
- 42:39can't let let other people take things away from you, You know,
- 42:45to subtract. I mean, I, you know, it's 3
- 42:51signs of a toxic person I talk about in my book.
- 42:54We'll see there it is pointing behind my head.
- 42:57Welcome to my people garden. That's that's the first version
- 43:02that the book, the hard copy, that's the original version.
- 43:06I have my second version out. But you know, 3 signs of a toxic
- 43:10person. The ones that bark the loudest
- 43:12are the ones that are the most guilty.
- 43:14They always telling them they always make somebody else look
- 43:18bad to make themselves look good and #3 is they always tell on
- 43:22themselves. I don't know about you, Daryl,
- 43:26but I think I see the traits of all three with these brothers
- 43:31because they have barked pretty loud, right?
- 43:35They have been pretty boisterous about what their fears were.
- 43:40They took those actions that I mean, they and and you know, you
- 43:45get to this point where they've done everything they could to
- 43:47make themselves look better than Joseph, even even though his
- 43:52actions have spoke louder than words then.
- 43:56But they always, you know, even here at the end, they told on
- 44:01themselves. There you go.
- 44:05You know you have to if you are curious about the people that
- 44:09are surrounding you in your people garden, you have to know
- 44:14what does that look like? Well, scripture has shown us
- 44:16what that looks like. I didn't make this up, I just
- 44:20told it in a different way using the parable, the sower.
- 44:23You reap what you sow. I'm so thankful that we live in
- 44:29a time and I'm reminded of Ecclesiastes 19.
- 44:35There's not one thing new under the sun.
- 44:39So the people that we're discussing today with those
- 44:42people. We still are.
- 44:44We still are. I mean, the moral injury, you
- 44:49know, you even get to this part about Joseph's life ending and
- 44:56yet he still is helping to ensure that his whole family is
- 45:01taken care of. What a what a gift of love.
- 45:06I can't say I would do that and being 100, I I can't say I would
- 45:10because, you know, we're human and more I do carry animosity
- 45:13and things because of things that have occurred to me in my
- 45:15life. But I have to find a place that
- 45:18it goes into a time capsule and it's only released by God
- 45:21because otherwise you see me, right?
- 45:25Otherwise it's, it becomes it is what it is.
- 45:28And we can make excuses. We can intellectualize, we can
- 45:31generalize, we can pontificate, we can elucidate all day about a
- 45:36subject. But if it's not, if we're not in
- 45:38right standing with the Lord, I got, I'm telling you, if you're
- 45:42not in right standing with the Lord, I got everything you
- 45:45attempt to do until you become right standing with him, meaning
- 45:48in protocol, it will not come to fruition.
- 45:54It will not. You may think, oh man, I'm
- 45:56winning. No, you're not, because he's not
- 45:58done with you yet. So Darryl, what do you think is
- 46:03a good way for folks? We're thinking both from the
- 46:08child perspective and from that returning parent from
- 46:15deployment, right? I mean, it it, you're, we're
- 46:19working on trying to work on those relationships because you
- 46:23and I both know from the trauma bond experience side of things
- 46:27and this is a really a moral injury side.
- 46:30How can we help folks navigate the healing and recovery side?
- 46:38First of all, we have to go on prayer.
- 46:42That's that's essential. And many times in your prayer,
- 46:47you can ask those questions. You know, it'd be very, very
- 46:50solemn and honorable when you're speaking to the Lord of God and
- 46:53be very, you know, reverent. Doing it incoming.
- 46:57But He will direct your past and guide the steps of someone on
- 47:02His words, and his actions will answer these questions for you.
- 47:06Not that they're prophetic. Not that they're Wizards now
- 47:09because they they have any, any alchemy, anything.
- 47:12What will happen is that there have been times recently this
- 47:18year that I wanted to push play and I talked to Eva and Eva came
- 47:24over with more. I was buried with reasons why
- 47:29not to. Because if you do you worse than
- 47:32the other situation all together and that's all people are going
- 47:36to remember is what you did doggone what he, she, they did.
- 47:42What did you do? You and your child and and and
- 47:47your parents come home and something happened with your
- 47:50brother, your sister, both of you.
- 47:51And then they they hear both sides maybe before they beat you
- 47:55half to them, but before they, they hear both sides.
- 47:58And then they'll say, well, what did you do?
- 47:59And if the answer is not sufficient, well, you know, here
- 48:04comes the punishment. So when a person has been on
- 48:07deployment, this person been in a relationship that went awry, a
- 48:12person that is is is severed a friendship with someone.
- 48:16Whatever the case may be, go into prayer.
- 48:20You'll receive greater guidance than you ever realize.
- 48:25Then go to someone that you really trust.
- 48:28God will already have that person waiting on you to talk to
- 48:33me, and then you will find out what you find out in the prayer.
- 48:37This is what we ought to be able to do.
- 48:39But more irrational people, we can't do that because we're only
- 48:43looking at the person paying a penance or offending us.
- 48:49Never mind you've already offended yourself.
- 48:51Probably, probably getting to that point when you come back
- 48:55from a deployment. That's a tough thing.
- 48:58Single or married or in a relationship, it's a tough thing
- 49:01because you've been away. Time has elapsed, right?
- 49:04Letters are one thing, telephone calls or something else, But a
- 49:08person's presence reigns supreme.
- 49:11And when you're not present for a person, they're liable if
- 49:14they're not rooted and grounded in God's Word to go astray or
- 49:18ride. So what we have to be able to do
- 49:21for those of us who are revivalists, we don't call
- 49:24ourselves revivalists, are revivalists.
- 49:27We understand the pitfalls of life.
- 49:29We don't ever want to return to that quicksand because quicksand
- 49:32does exist, contrary to my belief, right?
- 49:35So we don't want to ever go into quicksand.
- 49:37We want to be those people who are above ground, not risking
- 49:42anything because no man or woman or or entity can do anything to
- 49:46you that God won't allow. So blessed with that security,
- 49:51when we speaking to somebody, we're not speaking because
- 49:54we're, you know, we're trying to hear ourselves speak.
- 49:57We're speaking to a person that their lives may not be engulfed,
- 50:01ensnared in drama, trauma, situation, circumstances,
- 50:05trials, tribulations and persecution.
- 50:08That when you push play and you didn't think it through, you're
- 50:12going to do more harm to yourself, perhaps your family
- 50:15and anything else. And even once again, I bless you
- 50:18and I thank you and I applaud you because you don't know.
- 50:27I was, you know, we've talked about what you're talking about
- 50:30and I remember you saying you had this conversation with
- 50:34yourself. What would Eva do?
- 50:36I. Did.
- 50:37And I've had other people tell me that before, too, you know?
- 50:42I was going. To get them, you know, I mean,
- 50:45but they but they've had situations of what would Eva do?
- 50:48And I'm not trying to I'm not saying that to elevate myself.
- 50:53I I don't. Know I did say it.
- 50:55But I'm I'm very strategic in the things that I do.
- 51:00The the things that I say come from the heart, the people that
- 51:04I deal with, or it's always in a very cultivating manner.
- 51:09And I think that the people in my people garden know and trust
- 51:14that what I bring to them, you know, it's even developing.
- 51:20And I am sorry, Scott, that I could remember your name, but
- 51:23you're one of those people that I consider my people garden.
- 51:26That there is this opportunity of having relationships, even in
- 51:32a virtual circumstances of things that, you know, the good
- 51:36that we serve and the seeds that we sow with other people, you
- 51:43know, is immeasurable. And, you know, they, I, I, I
- 51:49feel very blessed and honored that I have people who come and
- 51:53consult with me. I don't have a degree in
- 51:56consulting or you know, I'm not a theologian or any of those
- 52:00kind of you're not. What are we doing here?
- 52:05Not, not a book, you know, the you know, the classical
- 52:12university dictated theologian. I, you know, I consider myself a
- 52:17lay minister that God works with me to help people.
- 52:22And that I think does give me, and certainly all of the
- 52:27experiences that I've been through in life has exposed me
- 52:32way more much in some ways like Joseph, I really identify with
- 52:38Joseph from a female perspective that I've endured these things,
- 52:45but God has he has made them for his good and not for my failure.
- 52:52And I think that's where a lot of people need to be able to
- 52:56flip that narrative in their own brain.
- 53:00Because something else I talk about in my book is there are
- 53:06lies that people tell us. Certainly Joseph's brothers have
- 53:11been great at lying all those years when the greatest liars
- 53:18are not those people. It's the lies that we tell
- 53:21ourselves. Could you imagine what the story
- 53:23would look like if Joseph had bought into what his brothers
- 53:29did to him and become the total victim and didn't know how to be
- 53:34able to use it for good? We would have a total different
- 53:38story we would be reading about because.
- 53:39We would also align control to. God, right, right.
- 53:43But he believed what God had shown him in that dream way long
- 53:49ago and he never let that, he never left that out of his goal
- 53:56post, right? If he's at the, you know, you
- 53:58guys know I'm a hiker. What's at the end of the trail?
- 54:03Joseph knew that God was at the end of the trail and God was
- 54:07going to get in there. He just had to stay the course
- 54:10and let things work through. All these distractions were
- 54:15exactly that, distractions. But God was going to see him
- 54:19through for his good, not for bad.
- 54:27It's succinctly said and you know how we stayed our lives
- 54:31going forward. There's always someone that you
- 54:34don't think will know will leave watching our lives have to be a
- 54:42mirror of what the effects preach.
- 54:44What we practice and practice what we preach we we get right
- 54:48now. Does that mean that you won't
- 54:50fall and get fractured and fail? No, it does.
- 54:53God will put you back to the head of the line on what's going
- 54:56on. And for those of us who are, you
- 55:02know, trending towards 60 and those of us who already are you
- 55:06the girl, you snipping, You snipping.
- 55:10So you know what we my children said, Daddy, you old.
- 55:15I said, girl, you better pray you turn 16 people.
- 55:21You've gone to high school and she's 28.
- 55:24They're gone, but you're still. Here.
- 55:28People in my class reunion a few weeks ago, they were planning on
- 55:33coming to the reunion and paid their, their, their dues, their
- 55:36fees and such. They didn't make.
- 55:40We don't know. And it's incumbent upon us now
- 55:44to have, if you don't have a closer relationship with the
- 55:48Lord our God, with Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit, you have to
- 55:52because there's going to come a day, it's called an expiration
- 55:55date. It's going to befall all of us
- 55:57and there's no bartering. There's no reasoning.
- 56:01No one with a cloak and dagger is going to come get you or a
- 56:04sickle. It's time.
- 56:07So take the time today, as I said last week, if you haven't
- 56:11spoken to someone, please call them, e-mail them, do the
- 56:18alternate e-mail, the alternate alternate e-mail, leave a note
- 56:23on the on the doorstep. Do something to let them, even
- 56:27if they detest you, take them in.
- 56:30If you have anything done before, say hey, I was thinking
- 56:33about you. And then if they blast you on
- 56:36social media, whatever the case is, that's not your business.
- 56:39It's just words. Don't leave today without
- 56:45leaving somebody a message or talking to them or communicating
- 56:48with them on some level because we don't know.
- 56:52That's the last time we saw those people from the class
- 56:55reunion before it all happened. So one last thing.
- 56:59So instead of we doing a 10 year reunion, we're thinking about
- 57:02two or three every two or three years to do something because we
- 57:05just don't know. No life is short, you know,
- 57:09That's why I've done my check one videos.
- 57:13So some of the people that we have known in our past before
- 57:18they took themselves out, you know, it was very unfortunate
- 57:22and beautiful people. And that's sad.
- 57:26But if we want to be able to help ourselves as a community,
- 57:31if we're wanting to change the numbers for veteran suicide, we
- 57:37have to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
- 57:41And you know, there's check one videos.
- 57:44I think it is where we can start right, Because I'm showing by
- 57:49example. Hey, I've been pretty
- 57:51transparent how how I felt, you know, in the last, you know,
- 57:56year and a half and finally getting come back.
- 57:58You know what my blood pressure today.
- 58:00I'm. So proud.
- 58:02I mean it was 137 / 72. That's a Far Cry steak.
- 58:08Potato and sour. Cream.
- 58:10No. I'll go back and have some more
- 58:12hatched Chili Peppers now that my mouth is not on fire.
- 58:16But you know, As for the last like 5 or 6 years, you know that
- 58:22my doctor wanted me to take high blood pressure medicine.
- 58:25I just didn't want to do it. Just no, I want to fix it with
- 58:28my diet. So I'm attributing it to diet,
- 58:31healthy living. I've been out there moving
- 58:34motion is lotion. And I think that, you know, we
- 58:38have to help ourselves. We have to engage with other
- 58:43people for those numbers to start changing the next couple
- 58:48of weeks. We are, like I said, we are
- 58:51going to be, we're going to take the whole of Genesis and really
- 58:58kind of, you know, focus it on this.
- 59:03What are the trends with the moral injury side, right?
- 59:06I mean, I think that's really going to help people digest what
- 59:09we've read. And you know, it's been neat for
- 59:12me to have taken this time slowly dishing it out and being
- 59:18able to unpack it all so quick. I know we have to go quick
- 59:23prayer. And dear Heavenly Father, thank
- 59:26you for bringing us together. Thank you for giving your us
- 59:30your word. And what you, what your message
- 59:34is that there is something out there for everybody.
- 59:37And you are bringing us together for one hour a week to cover
- 59:41this. But you are with us every day of
- 59:44our life, every minute, every second.
- 59:47Please Lord, keep everybody health and safety this week and
- 59:52and keep bringing them to you. In your name we pray.
- 59:55Amen. And Father, Son, the Holy
- 59:57Spirit. All right folks, you'll have a
- 1:00:00great week. See you next week.
