- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. Starting your day right means starting it with God.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And there's no better way to start your day with
- 0:13Speaker 1: God than to take some time with Him and just
- 0:16Speaker 1: listen to what He has to say, to speak into
- 0:18Speaker 1: your life, to shape your way of thinking, to set
- 0:23Speaker 1: your mind for the day on the things that really matter. Well,
- 0:28Speaker 1: that's what we do each weekday at this time.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We stop and read from God's word, the Bible, and
- 0:35Speaker 1: listen to God. And this week I love the theme
- 0:38Speaker 1: we're looking at the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ,
- 0:42Speaker 1: because this is the heart of Christianity. This is the
- 0:45Speaker 1: foundation on which everything else stands. The apostle Paul has
- 0:50Speaker 1: started off chapter 15 of 1 Corinthians that we're looking
- 0:54Speaker 1: at this week, talking about the.
- 0:56Speaker 1: The Gospel, this simple message that Christ died for our sins.
- 1:01Speaker 1: He took our place and faced God's judgement for us
- 1:04Speaker 1: so that we could come into His place and be
- 1:07Speaker 1: sons and daughters of God, welcomed into God's family, and
- 1:11Speaker 1: that Jesus, risen from the dead, can come into our
- 1:14Speaker 1: lives and change us completely and bring us into a
- 1:18Speaker 1: living daily relationship with Him.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Paul goes on to say, while this message about the
- 1:26Speaker 1: death and resurrection of Jesus, uh, it's the heart, it's
- 1:31Speaker 1: the foundation, and you need to understand it, he says,
- 1:34Speaker 1: starting in verse 12. Now if Christ is proclaimed as
- 1:38Speaker 1: raised from the dead, how can some of you say
- 1:41Speaker 1: there is no such thing as resurrection from the dead?
- 1:45Speaker 1: If there's no resurrection of the dead, then not even
- 1:48Speaker 1: Christ has been raised, and if Christ has not been raised,
- 1:52Speaker 1: then our preaching is in vain, and your faith is
- 1:56Speaker 1: in vain.
- 1:58Speaker 1: We are even found to be misrepresenting God because we
- 2:04Speaker 1: testified about God that He raised Christ, whom He did
- 2:07Speaker 1: not raise if it's true that the dead are not raised,
- 2:11Speaker 1: for if the dead are not raised, not even Christ
- 2:14Speaker 1: has been raised, and if Christ has not been raised,
- 2:18Speaker 1: your faith is futile, and you are still in your sins.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ, that is,
- 2:29Speaker 1: those Christians who have died, have perished. If in Christ
- 2:35Speaker 1: we have hope in this life only.
- 2:38Speaker 1: We are of all people most to be pitied.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Well,
- 2:45Speaker 1: There's a lot of people who would say, well, that's right,
- 2:48Speaker 1: we do just pity Christians for believing in those things
- 2:52Speaker 1: and using religion as a crutch to try and make
- 2:55Speaker 1: them feel better about life. Well, I will say, yes, uh,
- 3:01Speaker 1: my faith is a crutch in a sense because my
- 3:04Speaker 1: life is broken.
- 3:06Speaker 1: If you don't feel like your life's broken, if you
- 3:08Speaker 1: feel like everything's great and everything's as it ought to be,
- 3:11Speaker 1: you are definitely not ready to put your faith in
- 3:14Speaker 1: Jesus Christ and become a follower of his. It's when
- 3:18Speaker 1: you come to the realisation that every person on this
- 3:22Speaker 1: world is broken.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And that brokenness is because of the distance between us
- 3:30Speaker 1: and God who made us for Himself.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Until you come to that realisation and you look at
- 3:36Speaker 1: your own life and you say.
- 3:38Speaker 1: No matter what it looks like on the outside, there
- 3:41Speaker 1: is a kind of desperation on the inside because I
- 3:44Speaker 1: know life has to be so much more than this,
- 3:48Speaker 1: and I know that death is not just the end
- 3:51Speaker 1: of everything, but that my spirit will live on.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And I need God.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Well
- 4:00Speaker 1: That's the message of Christianity. Jesus didn't stay dead. He
- 4:04Speaker 1: rose from the dead. This is one of the most
- 4:07Speaker 1: faith inspiring things I ever did in my life. I said, OK,
- 4:11Speaker 1: if that's the case, I want to study the death
- 4:13Speaker 1: and resurrection of Jesus and see what evidence there is
- 4:16Speaker 1: for the resurrection of Jesus. I want you to know
- 4:20Speaker 1: that when you look at the historical evidence for the
- 4:22Speaker 1: resurrection of Jesus.
- 4:24Speaker 1: It gives you such a firm foundation for your faith
- 4:28Speaker 1: about everything else in the Bible. The resurrection of Jesus
- 4:32Speaker 1: Christ is one of the most solid historical events ever
- 4:36Speaker 1: recorded in human history, testified to by.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Countless eyewitnesses, people who were willing to die for their
- 4:45Speaker 1: claim that he had risen from the dead, it was
- 4:47Speaker 1: no advantage to them to make that claim at that point.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And yet they lived and died on this basis. Not
- 4:55Speaker 1: only that.
- 4:56Speaker 1: But I can tell you that I have encountered the
- 4:59Speaker 1: risen Lord Jesus, not in a physical sense, no, but
- 5:03Speaker 1: He has changed my life like night and day, and
- 5:07Speaker 1: He can change yours too. This is the heart of Christianity.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Jesus Christ rose from the dead, and your faith is
- 5:18Speaker 1: real when you put it in Him. I'm John North.
