Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / Inside The Tape With Greg Cosell: "Seeing Everything, But Really Seeing Nothing"
Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome to another episode of Inside the Tape with
- 0:12Speaker 1: Greg Cosell on Inside the Birds. I'm Jeff Mosher alongside
- 0:15Speaker 1: Adam Kaplan. Of course we have Greg Cosell to break
- 0:18Speaker 1: down on tape the defense by the Eagles in their
- 0:22Speaker 1: thirty eight to twenty win over the Giants. We already
- 0:25Speaker 1: did offense, and as always each week, we finished it
- 0:28Speaker 1: off with the other side of the ball. So Greg,
- 0:31Speaker 1: let's get to the Eagles defense, because we remember the
- 0:33Speaker 1: Week six game against the Giants. I think the words
- 0:36Speaker 1: we kept using were being bullied and dominated in the line,
- 0:40Speaker 1: at the line of attack, and in the trenches. But
- 0:43Speaker 1: it was not the case last Sunday. The Eagles were
- 0:46Speaker 1: a completely different team in the trenches.
- 0:48Speaker 2: And we talked about that. We said that it's not
- 0:50Speaker 2: likely that was going to happen twice in two weeks.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Three weeks to a vic fan Joe defense. That was
- 0:55Speaker 2: a game where they made way too many mistakes, guys
- 0:59Speaker 2: not playing smart football, which I'm sure got fixed dander
- 1:03Speaker 2: up because you know, hey, look, sometimes guys may may
- 1:06Speaker 2: get beat physically, that's the NFL. But the mental stuff
- 1:10Speaker 2: and not seeing things the right way, that's not Coaches
- 1:13Speaker 2: don't go for that, so and that didn't happen in
- 1:16Speaker 2: this game. The Giants, I believe, only had two hundred
- 1:19Speaker 2: and forty six yards of total offense. And you know
- 1:22Speaker 2: the thing that's really stood out to me, guys over
- 1:25Speaker 2: the last number of weeks, and I'm sure it stood
- 1:27Speaker 2: out to you, they really have become kind of a
- 1:30Speaker 2: foundational Cover one defense. They play a lot of man coverage.
- 1:34Speaker 2: This idea that it's all you know, it's all cover four.
- 1:37Speaker 2: You know, obviously that can be in their arsenal any
- 1:40Speaker 2: given week, and maybe a different opponent brings out the
- 1:42Speaker 2: cover four depending on who they're playing. But they have
- 1:46Speaker 2: played a lot of man coverage over these last number
- 1:49Speaker 2: of weeks. I think they're the third highest percentage of
- 1:52Speaker 2: playing Cover one in the NFL right now.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Like this is not what has done throughout the years.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Oh it's funny when he was in Denver and he
- 2:00Speaker 2: had certain they played a lot of Cover one.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Did they because they haven't done it here? And no, no,
- 2:07Speaker 4: but I'm going back. I'm trying to Chicago, Greg, what
- 2:11Speaker 4: was not only to cover one in Chicago?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Right right?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Well, I think the commonality is I think when when
- 2:18Speaker 1: when Vic knows he's got a front four, specifically some
- 2:21Speaker 1: killer edge rushers, whether it's Khalil Mack or Josh Sweat.
- 2:25Speaker 1: He's fine with letting that work and play in the zone.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I think in cases when he had certain I don't
- 2:30Speaker 1: think he had great pass rushers edge rushers at that point.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And he's still working this very thin rotation here at
- 2:38Speaker 1: the Eagles, so it makes sense he's got better back
- 2:41Speaker 1: end personnel right now than not to take away from,
- 2:44Speaker 1: you know, the front end. But I'm just saying he's
- 2:46Speaker 1: got some guys you can legit cover and help the
- 2:49Speaker 1: lineman get.
- 2:50Speaker 3: To the corner.
- 2:50Speaker 1: There's one guy cover, well, I would you can't just
- 2:54Speaker 1: like just because you have five guys in covers man,
- 2:59Speaker 1: like I'm you're covering. You know, the people have good
- 3:03Speaker 1: slot receivers.
- 3:04Speaker 3: But it's the other corner spot.
- 3:06Speaker 4: It's just I don't know about you, Greg and jeff
- 3:08Speaker 4: but it has stunned me that they have not gotten
- 3:10Speaker 4: burned more than I thought they get burned going after
- 3:12Speaker 4: him Ringo.
- 3:14Speaker 5: You're talking about Ringo, Yeah, yeah, it's very.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Odd to me. I don't remember.
- 3:18Speaker 4: We thought that we thought Jefferson would get him, didn't happen.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Uh No, he's giving up his shares of place.
- 3:24Speaker 4: But Jeff, the thing is, he's not getting burned over
- 3:26Speaker 4: his head like that's what we thought would happen because
- 3:28Speaker 4: the stiffness, traditional issues hadn't happened yet.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Hasn't happened yet.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And you asked me, Jeff, every week, you know what
- 3:34Speaker 2: they do from a coverage coverage game the question standpoint,
- 3:39Speaker 2: And this was a coverage game. They hardly They hardly
- 3:41Speaker 2: rushed five in this game.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Right.
- 3:45Speaker 2: You don't need to do that with Dark because Dart
- 3:47Speaker 2: is he's in the he's in frenetic mode right now.
- 3:50Speaker 2: He's playing like a rookie quarterback. He's not seeing things.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Uh you know, if it's totally clean for a play
- 3:57Speaker 2: like the scatterbow touchdown when I forget who was cover
- 4:00Speaker 2: bring him fell down, you know, then he can throw it.
- 4:03Speaker 2: But other than that, he drops back, he looks at
- 4:05Speaker 2: that one receiver and then he's just lost. And he
- 4:09Speaker 2: was in this game. I can't tell you what he's
- 4:10Speaker 2: gonna do this week. Like I said, when we did
- 4:13Speaker 2: the the the offense that all I'm saying is this
- 4:15Speaker 2: is what the tape showed, and he's shown that even
- 4:18Speaker 2: though he brings an energy and excitement to the in
- 4:20Speaker 2: the manner in which he plays, he's kind of lost
- 4:23Speaker 2: in what he's seeing. He's not there yet.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I know there are you always use the terms
- 4:28Speaker 1: stuck in the pocket.
- 4:29Speaker 2: There are a few.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Tugray he held onto the ball for four or five seconds.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I know he had.
- 4:35Speaker 5: He's know what he's looking at right right?
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Reminded me of the time Sam Donald when there was
- 4:39Speaker 1: a Jets that I'm just seeing ghosts out there.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You know, it's just.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Oh what he said that, I couldn't believe it. And
- 4:45Speaker 4: then and Greg Greg came up with the term with Donald, ironically,
- 4:50Speaker 4: stuck in the pocket.
- 4:51Speaker 3: He's the guys get stuck.
- 4:53Speaker 2: They just don't see it the right way, right, you know.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And that's that's very common for young quarterbacks because every
- 4:59Speaker 2: place called with a P and mine and if that
- 5:01Speaker 2: primary for whatever reason, is not available, young quarterbacks very
- 5:05Speaker 2: often it's you could really see it with Dart, it's
- 5:08Speaker 2: not it's not a true X and O point. You
- 5:10Speaker 2: can just see my body language. He's breaking down and
- 5:13Speaker 2: he you know, and then you miss things.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to be fair to the Eagles. I
- 5:17Speaker 1: mean they definitely played so much better up front. I
- 5:19Speaker 1: know they had five sacks and people go crazy over that,
- 5:22Speaker 1: but I felt like Dart ran himself into three of them.
- 5:25Speaker 1: He did, and and like the sacks didn't come from
- 5:28Speaker 1: the edge. They came. You have one from Joe Moo,
- 5:31Speaker 1: one from Bond, you had one from uh Jordan Davis.
- 5:34Speaker 1: That again, Dart sort of ran himself into. I think
- 5:36Speaker 1: the only edge player to have a sack was Jelex's Hunt. Yes,
- 5:41Speaker 1: how did Hunt play? Because he did look very active.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I thought Hunt played well. And again, what they did
- 5:47Speaker 2: with Campbell is he played on the edge in their
- 5:49Speaker 2: base defense and Dean was stacked. He did not play
- 5:53Speaker 2: any snaps on the edge in the nickel. He played
- 5:56Speaker 2: no snaps on the edge in the nickel. And in fact,
- 5:59Speaker 2: this was a game where Dean played meaningfully more snaps
- 6:03Speaker 2: than Campbell.
- 6:05Speaker 1: That's interesting. I mean, you know, without knowing, without Vick
- 6:08Speaker 1: saying it, it would make me think he still doesn't trust
- 6:11Speaker 1: Campbell as a pass rusher in a four man rush,
- 6:14Speaker 1: right right, Not when you have Jelex Hunt and Ouch
- 6:17Speaker 1: and playing better and Campbell's still a little bit new
- 6:20Speaker 1: to it.
- 6:21Speaker 2: But by the way, just to get back to dart
- 6:22Speaker 2: real quick, the term that Ryan Jaworski you know, used
- 6:25Speaker 2: which always resonated with me in this coast back years,
- 6:28Speaker 2: probably maybe even close to thirty years, because I worked
- 6:30Speaker 2: with Jows for so long and I put in my notes,
- 6:34Speaker 2: a dart too often is playing with fast, unfocused eyes,
- 6:38Speaker 2: seeing everything but really seeing nothing. And that's what happens
- 6:42Speaker 2: with a lot of young quarterbacks. You know, they just
- 6:45Speaker 2: see a lot of movement, but they don't really see
- 6:48Speaker 2: anything right, and darts kind of in that stage right now, anything.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Stick out to you on the back end with either
- 6:55Speaker 1: quinnyon or the safeties or anything.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Mcoob is still really good playing outhill on the run game.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I don't think they were tested very much in the
- 7:02Speaker 2: past game, you know, so it was you know, hard
- 7:06Speaker 2: to tell blanket ship. I thought it looked aggressive, and
- 7:09Speaker 2: you know, yeah, it was not a game where they
- 7:11Speaker 2: were significantly testing. Don't forget the Giants want to play
- 7:15Speaker 2: out a twelve personnel and until Bellinger got hurt, that's
- 7:17Speaker 2: what they were. And then in the second half, without Bellinger,
- 7:20Speaker 2: they went pretty much to all eleven personnel because they
- 7:23Speaker 2: didn't have it. They didn't have man hurts it's not
- 7:25Speaker 2: a receiver. So they didn't want to play twelve personnel
- 7:28Speaker 2: when they were losing because they didn't have another receiving
- 7:30Speaker 2: tight end. So by necessity they won eleven personnel, but
- 7:34Speaker 2: they weren't really tested, you know, in the back end
- 7:37Speaker 2: in any meaningful way.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Jeff, If you look at the guys that they're using,
- 7:40Speaker 4: both collins, if you look at the little Jordan Humphrey, Yes,
- 7:43Speaker 4: if you just look at the group and eleven personnel,
- 7:46Speaker 4: this is a game you're probably not going to be tested.
- 7:48Speaker 4: That's just without govern you're really limited. Chris Manhertz from Canisius,
- 7:53Speaker 4: by the way, a basketball school.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah, of course in the mac as I like to
- 8:00Speaker 1: call it. Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 8:04Speaker 1: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
- 8:07Speaker 1: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 8:12Speaker 1: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 8:16Speaker 1: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,
- 8:19Speaker 1: no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Camdn Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their staff
- 8:27Speaker 1: makes sure you feel taken care of every time you
- 8:30Speaker 1: walk in. Plus, they carry only the best quality cannabis
- 8:34Speaker 1: at the fairest prices, So whether you're stocking up for
- 8:38Speaker 1: the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a big win,
- 8:41Speaker 1: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
- 8:45Speaker 1: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 8:50Speaker 1: service members, and healthcare pros camedn Apothecary, Top quality cannabis,
- 8:55Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 8:58Speaker 1: one and up. All Right, so the first play here
- 9:01Speaker 1: is going to be actually not a great play for
- 9:04Speaker 1: the Eagles. It's the Scataboo touchdown. I wanted to take
- 9:07Speaker 1: a look at with you, Greg and have you diagnosed it?
- 9:09Speaker 1: Because Patrick Johnson had to play some significant reps again
- 9:12Speaker 1: at Edge. In fact, he played more Edge traditional education
- 9:16Speaker 1: than even Cable.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Shows up on film. I mean, he's not getting sacks
- 9:19Speaker 2: or anything, but it's not like he doesn't belong out there.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Right, So what happens in this case? Where is it
- 9:26Speaker 1: just a you know, guy versus guys gets shoved down
- 9:29Speaker 1: and he scores a touchdown Because it looks.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Like Eagle to earn two man coverage and they actually
- 9:36Speaker 2: had the edge player Johnson. He was matched on Scatterboo
- 9:40Speaker 2: on the wheel route from the offset backfield alignment. The
- 9:42Speaker 2: reason he got he was matched on him is because
- 9:45Speaker 2: this was a four man sim pressure. So Dean actually
- 9:48Speaker 2: added in as the fourth rusher instead of being maxed
- 9:51Speaker 2: on scatterbo So when scatterbo releases like that, and I
- 9:55Speaker 2: don't know if they thought he would stay in because
- 9:57Speaker 2: of the sim pressure, that's what we don't know, but
- 10:00Speaker 2: he ended up releasing. So the term we use is
- 10:04Speaker 2: Johnson had a peel and play him and that's not
- 10:07Speaker 2: his strength obviously, and he kind of he got pushed
- 10:10Speaker 2: a little, but that's allowed. It's within five yards and
- 10:12Speaker 2: he fell down and it became pitch and catch.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just I was I guess part of
- 10:17Speaker 1: me was surprised that Johnson was asked to cover, but
- 10:19Speaker 1: like you said, he they may have expected something different
- 10:22Speaker 1: from the Giants offense there other than having to not
- 10:26Speaker 1: have Patrick Johnson in coverage.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah happened. You know, I mean, you go with a
- 10:31Speaker 2: certain concept and you know, maybe you anticipate something else
- 10:35Speaker 2: is going to happen based on your sense of their
- 10:37Speaker 2: protection but this time it didn't happen, probably exactly the
- 10:41Speaker 2: way you wanted it, and you got beat for a touchdown.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It happens. It's the NFL YEP.
- 10:47Speaker 1: One of the rare times start Early wanted to go
- 10:49Speaker 1: down the field. He wanted to hit Darius Slaton, who
- 10:51Speaker 1: didn't play in the Week six. This gave the Giants
- 10:55Speaker 1: a little downfield dimension. And I believe you observed on
- 10:58Speaker 1: tape that Mitchell was basically playing the same side the
- 11:02Speaker 1: whole game, right.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I think he played boundary pretty much every snap at
- 11:05Speaker 2: one or.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Two, which is another new thing that Vick has done.
- 11:09Speaker 2: So and what they do a lot with him when
- 11:11Speaker 2: he's boundary and it's a three by one set is
- 11:14Speaker 2: they basically have him play zero because the safety to
- 11:17Speaker 2: that side, who's Blankenship here. Normally Blankenship is the boundary
- 11:20Speaker 2: safety as well, normally not one hundred percent. So Blankenship,
- 11:24Speaker 2: you know, looks inside. You can see it right here.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Blankenship has no interest in helping Mitchell. So Mitchell's essentially
- 11:30Speaker 2: playing zero man. Right, you look at blanken Ship. Yeah,
- 11:34Speaker 2: he's poaching, that's the term they use. He's poaching inside
- 11:37Speaker 2: right to the trip side. So now Mitchell's he's playing
- 11:41Speaker 2: zero man, right, It's sort.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Of like a double team tactic. You leave one guy
- 11:45Speaker 1: against their their quote unquote best receiver, and then you
- 11:48Speaker 1: devote your safeties and covers the other guy.
- 11:50Speaker 5: That's that's your zero park is the safety is alsewhere?
- 11:53Speaker 3: Right?
- 11:53Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, it's And then you know, Mitchell's just
- 11:58Speaker 2: a really he's a high quality corner and this is
- 12:00Speaker 2: great coverage.
- 12:01Speaker 5: It's great coverage, very good coverage.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And Slayton has given the Eagles problems in the past,
- 12:05Speaker 1: so that was that was good to say he's.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Given them a lot of problems more with run after catches.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I recall where he catched the ball and he then
- 12:13Speaker 2: used the speed as opposed to just catching vertical balls.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Right. Now, here's one of the sacks the Eagles got.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I'm guessing it was a sim pressure greg because it
- 12:22Speaker 1: looks like on this one Degene is gonna blitz from
- 12:25Speaker 1: from the slot. Yeah he does, Okay, so is this
- 12:30Speaker 1: go ahead?
- 12:31Speaker 2: No, let's just just run it?
- 12:33Speaker 1: So I and then this is what I meant by
- 12:38Speaker 1: Dart sort of running himself into a sack.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Uh.
- 12:41Speaker 1: But the pressure caused that more so from Degene than say,
- 12:45Speaker 1: like you know, guys beating guys one on one.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Now, who who made that sack?
- 12:50Speaker 1: It was Jordan Davis.
- 12:52Speaker 2: That was the Davis sack. So that was just yeah,
- 12:54Speaker 2: that was the slot blitzed by Degene. It was really
- 12:57Speaker 2: well disguised. Now, this wasn't RPO on step with a
- 13:01Speaker 2: gap scheme run inside, and it was meant to be
- 13:03Speaker 2: a quick throw to the flat to Bellinger, but de
- 13:06Speaker 2: Jeene's blitz took it away and there's no other throw here,
- 13:10Speaker 2: so it forced start to break down and leave the pocket.
- 13:13Speaker 2: And then Davis from the three technique. And by the way,
- 13:16Speaker 2: Davis here showed great hand strength with a club move
- 13:19Speaker 2: to beat the left tackle Thomas off the ball. This
- 13:22Speaker 2: was great by by Jordan Davis. You know that initially
- 13:26Speaker 2: isn't responsible for the sack, but this is really good
- 13:30Speaker 2: by Jordan Jeff. So this is this is basically you
- 13:37Speaker 2: can call it a one read throw or no red throw,
- 13:39Speaker 2: but the only throw he has here is the RPO.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Ele meant to throw it out in the flat to
- 13:44Speaker 2: Bellinger and Dejane took it away. And then you know,
- 13:47Speaker 2: I always wonder about plays like this guy's where I
- 13:50Speaker 2: wish I had the bat phone to call a coach
- 13:52Speaker 2: because the Eagles. The way the Eagles played this play
- 13:57Speaker 2: sometimes I think did they have a strong sense that
- 13:59Speaker 2: this could be the play because they took away this play.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yes, that is the perfect play call for a play
- 14:08Speaker 1: that's going to involve a slow handoff and I mean
- 14:11Speaker 1: you send the guy from the snot Yeah. Yeah. There
- 14:14Speaker 1: used to be a video game greg called tech Mobile
- 14:16Speaker 1: and if you've heard of it from Nintendo, but if
- 14:19Speaker 1: you called the exact right defense for whatever your opponent
- 14:23Speaker 1: called on offense, the computer would just automatically send everybody
- 14:27Speaker 1: at the cornerback and it would be a sack. It
- 14:28Speaker 1: was the greatest thing ever because you feel like you're.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Probably the only man in America that's never played a
- 14:33Speaker 2: video game in his life.
- 14:34Speaker 5: So well, you know you're not.
- 14:37Speaker 1: You can imagine, though, the feeling of playing game where
- 14:39Speaker 1: you know the computer just told you you did everything right.
- 14:41Speaker 1: You guessed your opponent's play and called the perfect defense right.
- 14:46Speaker 1: All right. This is one of those plays where I
- 14:48Speaker 1: think you're gonna probably say Jackson Dart seeings the field
- 14:53Speaker 1: but but doesn't see anything because this is just a
- 14:57Speaker 1: four man rush by the Eagles.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look at his body language. Just look
- 15:01Speaker 2: at him move he's there's no comfort here. He has
- 15:05Speaker 2: no idea what he's looking at, totally just seeing everything
- 15:08Speaker 2: and seeing nothing. Right, That's a great example here, great example.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So the question was, was there's somebody there at you know,
- 15:16Speaker 1: like when he's doing his pre snap and looking at
- 15:18Speaker 1: what he's seeing. Was there an obvious place to go
- 15:22Speaker 1: with the ball?
- 15:23Speaker 2: Well, this is an interesting look right now, just go
- 15:26Speaker 2: back a little bit before the ball snap if you could.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Right now, this is a little bit muddied as to
- 15:32Speaker 2: what the coverage could be because you know, they they
- 15:34Speaker 2: they motion or shift Robinson across the formation to make it,
- 15:40Speaker 2: you know, twins to that side and it's an empty
- 15:43Speaker 2: set now right now, this looks zonish all the way
- 15:48Speaker 2: because no one really reacts to Robinson. So right now
- 15:51Speaker 2: you're thinking, okay, this looks zonish because who's playing Robinson exactly?
- 15:56Speaker 1: Nobody across him right right.
- 15:59Speaker 2: So now when you run it, if I'm not mistaken,
- 16:02Speaker 2: this becomes cover one here.
- 16:04Speaker 5: It is. Yeah, it's cover one all right.
- 16:08Speaker 1: So you want to be able to rip the seams
- 16:10Speaker 1: sometimes against cover one. But it doesn't look like the
- 16:12Speaker 1: route concept is going to help you there.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Well, I wonder, you know, if he's looking for THEO
- 16:17Speaker 2: Johnson on Dejene. But then you have Bond sitting right there,
- 16:21Speaker 2: and I think, you know, that's where I think he
- 16:23Speaker 2: just started to go into and then and look, see
- 16:26Speaker 2: if he's a veteran quarterback or he's a comfortable quarterback,
- 16:30Speaker 2: Allie does always turn and stick it right on Robinson,
- 16:33Speaker 2: who's wide open. And this should have been pitching catch. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 2: but he's he's not. And this is not hard, by
- 16:40Speaker 2: the way, but when you're when you're just not there mentally,
- 16:45Speaker 2: everything is hard.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Right.
- 16:46Speaker 1: What about potentially if you don't see Robinson because you're
- 16:48Speaker 1: looking the other way, could you rip it down the
- 16:50Speaker 1: left sideline here and just give your receiver a one
- 16:53Speaker 1: on one shot?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Is that is that if you want to? I mean,
- 16:56Speaker 2: the point is is he's not none of that's registering, Jeff,
- 16:59Speaker 2: That's right.
- 16:59Speaker 5: Thing right, He's not seeing it.
- 17:03Speaker 3: He's just it's crazy. He stares on Robinson right and
- 17:06Speaker 3: he turns.
- 17:08Speaker 2: You know what this is like? You know, I just
- 17:10Speaker 2: thought of this analogy because I'm that guy. This is
- 17:12Speaker 2: like a home improvement project when people stay to you. Oh,
- 17:15Speaker 2: it's easy. Well, it's easy if you know how to
- 17:17Speaker 2: do it. But you know, I grew up in an apartment.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I never did home improvement project. Therefore it's not easy.
- 17:23Speaker 2: You know, I don't know how to do it. You
- 17:25Speaker 2: know when people say I love when people say that
- 17:27Speaker 2: kind of stuff. You know, well, it's easy if you
- 17:29Speaker 2: know how to do it, you know.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Yeah, of course taking up with Jackson Dark and now
- 17:37Speaker 1: we've got so this is a Jilex hunt sack the
- 17:40Speaker 1: key here. As you mentioned, Greg, the loaded front makes
- 17:43Speaker 1: a reappearance, which they've been doing.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Yeah, they were doing it game.
- 17:48Speaker 2: So this uh yeah, this was the This was third
- 17:52Speaker 2: and ten late in the third quarter. It was their
- 17:54Speaker 2: only snap of Diamond the game because Nickerson's in the game. Yes,
- 17:59Speaker 2: and with Bond this he was deployed as a spy
- 18:02Speaker 2: on Dart here.
- 18:04Speaker 3: And they released on Monday. By the way, what's that
- 18:07Speaker 3: Nickerson was released on Monday?
- 18:08Speaker 5: Was yeah, yeah, anyway.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Well he got his one snap this and this.
- 18:14Speaker 1: By the way, it's it's sort of interesting how they
- 18:16Speaker 1: I don't know if they disguise it, but they didn't
- 18:18Speaker 1: have Carter line up last time we saw them line
- 18:21Speaker 1: up in the loaded front he had, he kind of
- 18:23Speaker 1: shifted himself into him loaded front. But again remember you
- 18:26Speaker 1: pointed out how he sort of lined up over center
- 18:30Speaker 1: and then off the ball a little bit. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 1: he did that again.
- 18:33Speaker 2: No, Well, the interesting thing to me is, I have
- 18:35Speaker 2: no idea why Thomas looked inside the left tackle. I
- 18:38Speaker 2: have no idea why. Because that allowed Johnson to beat
- 18:40Speaker 2: him off the edge, and that's what you know, essentially
- 18:43Speaker 2: caused Dart to move and then Hun redirected, retraced the term.
- 18:47Speaker 5: They use, and he made the sack right.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Hunt showed up in this game quite a bit.
- 18:52Speaker 3: What do you like about him? By the way, at
- 18:53Speaker 3: this point, what would you like lately?
- 18:55Speaker 2: Well, I mean he's clearly a quick athlete, you know,
- 18:59Speaker 2: I mean, and then you can see that on tape.
- 19:01Speaker 2: You know, you want to continue to see the development
- 19:03Speaker 2: as a pass rusher. You know, here he readirects really nicely.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I mean, he's athletic. He can do this stuff. I mean,
- 19:09Speaker 2: you know, good awareness. Look at him redirect right here,
- 19:12Speaker 2: really comfortable, really smooth. You know, he's just a good athlete.
- 19:17Speaker 1: He wasn't going to miss this time he missed.
- 19:20Speaker 5: He made sure he got him there.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that was an interesting point you made on the
- 19:25Speaker 1: left tackle here.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Again, you know, because Bond comes up late. And so
- 19:30Speaker 2: what the reason Bond came up is because he wanted
- 19:33Speaker 2: to occupy the left guard and he wanted a gap.
- 19:36Speaker 2: The term will use is the gap it out, meaning
- 19:38Speaker 2: that if someone over now it's five five zero.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Protection, right, that's what they're doing.
- 19:44Speaker 2: But even I don't know why looked inside, don't right.
- 19:48Speaker 1: The left tackle you would think would take the edge
- 19:49Speaker 1: rusher on five out, So I don't know why that
- 19:54Speaker 1: was strange. Yeah, but he certainly gave Patrick Johnson a
- 19:57Speaker 1: little bit of an off to the races start there.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know Johnson, like I said, you noticed Johnson.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I mean, it's not like he doesn't belong out there, right.
- 20:05Speaker 3: He's been a good story, Jeff, to be honest.
- 20:06Speaker 1: With Yeah, Listen, I thought he was gonna stick with
- 20:08Speaker 1: the Giants. I know the Giants have good pass rushers,
- 20:10Speaker 1: but when he was with them last year, I thought
- 20:12Speaker 1: he would stick, but he did not, and the Eagles
- 20:15Speaker 1: were happy to have him back. Is this another This
- 20:17Speaker 1: is another loaded front here on the Ajoemo sack.
- 20:20Speaker 2: It's a loaded front.
- 20:22Speaker 5: Yep.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You see him at the top it's almost the same. Right,
- 20:27Speaker 1: you get the late slide by Carter, you get the linebacker.
- 20:29Speaker 1: This time it's Dean. I think, who creeps up into
- 20:32Speaker 1: the gap?
- 20:33Speaker 5: Right?
- 20:35Speaker 1: Or is that Campbell? That might be Campbell actually and
- 20:41Speaker 1: then boom boy. Jackson didn't have much of a shot
- 20:46Speaker 1: there the way the protection scheme got broken down. Now
- 20:52Speaker 1: who I'm trying to think who's responsible here, Craig because
- 20:58Speaker 1: it seemed like everybody was up on Jackson Dart immediately.
- 21:01Speaker 2: So this for the Ajomo sack? Right, it was the
- 21:03Speaker 2: fourth quarter. This came out of five man pressure, out
- 21:05Speaker 2: of the loaded front. Cambell was the fifth rusher opposite
- 21:08Speaker 2: the load. They played cover one behind it, Darth. See
- 21:12Speaker 2: here's an example. Dark broke down before sitting in the pocket.
- 21:14Speaker 2: He ran into this sack.
- 21:19Speaker 1: But I don't know is the left guard. There's five rushers, right,
- 21:26Speaker 1: so it's five on five. Did the left guard mess
- 21:28Speaker 1: up here because he kind of allows.
- 21:30Speaker 5: A free rusher run in seventy six?
- 21:32Speaker 1: Seventy six?
- 21:33Speaker 2: Yeah, go back go to the snap if you could. Sure, Okay,
- 21:41Speaker 2: So what what what we don't know here is is
- 21:48Speaker 2: how they want to block this. In other words, it's
- 21:50Speaker 2: very possible that the way they set the protection involved
- 21:54Speaker 2: Bawn here as well, and they dealt with Bonn as
- 21:58Speaker 2: a potential rusher. So starting with the left guard runion,
- 22:02Speaker 2: they have four to block four to that side. Now,
- 22:04Speaker 2: I don't know how the back is involved in this.
- 22:07Speaker 1: See that's the thing, right, So you're saying like a
- 22:09Speaker 1: slide protection.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Right, it could be yes, and it could be that
- 22:12Speaker 2: the back is responsible for Campbell. He's looking at him
- 22:15Speaker 2: right now. But I don't you know, that's what you
- 22:17Speaker 2: don't know, right.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I guess we might be able to figure out why
- 22:23Speaker 1: the movement. Yeah, if they look at the back side,
- 22:26Speaker 1: it does you're right.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, that's what they're doing. They're going four to
- 22:32Speaker 2: block those four and the back on camp that's what
- 22:34Speaker 2: they're doing.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Which actually you're right, they picked it up.
- 22:37Speaker 2: It was but look at the look at look at
- 22:39Speaker 2: dark he's bro Now. Granted they stunt, which ninety nine
- 22:43Speaker 2: point nine percent of the time from the loaded front side,
- 22:45Speaker 2: there's a stunt, but he's he never even sets. I mean,
- 22:48Speaker 2: he's he's he's lost already. Look look he's looking at
- 22:53Speaker 2: right now, Look at his.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Body and he walks right into him.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Yeah, he runs right into.
- 22:57Speaker 1: The sack, right, And that's that's kind of the point
- 23:00Speaker 1: I made. It's I don't want to get too crazy
- 23:02Speaker 1: over the five sacks because it wasn't like there was
- 23:04Speaker 1: this amazing edge pressure, and there was some good edge
- 23:06Speaker 1: pressure and there were some good moves, but it was
- 23:08Speaker 1: sort of, you know, wonky the way it all came about. Hey,
- 23:13Speaker 1: I still like a good night out, but I'm not
- 23:15Speaker 1: always in the mood to drink. And that's why I

- 24:42Speaker 1: Vic this year has shown you a little bit more exotic.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Like last year. At the beginning of the year, we
- 24:49Speaker 1: saw him blitz Cooper to gene a little bit. We
- 24:51Speaker 1: saw the sim pressures that we didn't see in his
- 24:53Speaker 1: from his predecessors. But this year I think he's doing
- 24:55Speaker 1: a little bit more upfront with twists, stunts and these.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Me and I don't have the one stat I don't
- 25:02Speaker 2: have a stunts that's not in this that's that I have.
- 25:06Speaker 2: But I feel like they've stunted more this year.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I would agree, I agree, And he's brought.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Out some stuff.
- 25:11Speaker 4: You showed us the Carter standing up, yeah, which is awesome,
- 25:15Speaker 4: which we we hadn't seen before.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Yeah, he's doing some different stuff.
- 25:18Speaker 2: But you know, as we talked about in the pregame
- 25:20Speaker 2: show last week, I did feel pretty confident. You know, look,
- 25:23Speaker 2: Fangoe smarter than I am. That's not even the question.
- 25:26Speaker 2: But I just felt really confident that the same thing
- 25:29Speaker 2: wasn't going to happen again this time, right, he was
- 25:32Speaker 2: just not going to happen.
- 25:33Speaker 1: There you go, all right, So that is a look
- 25:36Speaker 1: at the defense. The Eagles defense got a much much
- 25:39Speaker 1: bigger test when they come out of the bye week
- 25:41Speaker 1: against the Green Bay Packers. Ata.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I mean, if the Packers win it at home against
- 25:46Speaker 2: Carolina this week, it would be six one and one
- 25:48Speaker 2: versus six and two.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, it'd be a little big matchup.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Absolutely. And then, for whatever reason, the Packers seemed to
- 25:56Speaker 1: play about forty better when they're at lamb Then they
- 26:00Speaker 1: were away from Lambeau, they were like a different team.
- 26:03Speaker 1: They lose the round, they tie the Cowboys, so they'll
- 26:06Speaker 1: be at home and we'll continue to do Inside the
- 26:09Speaker 1: Tape all throughout the week's end of the season. So
- 26:11Speaker 1: for Greg Cosell and Adam Kaplan, I'm Jeff Mosher. You've
- 26:14Speaker 1: been watching Inside the Tape with Greg Cosell on Inside
- 26:18Speaker 1: the Burns
