- 2:04Speaker 1: I'm actually in Atlanta right now recording new content for
- 2:08Speaker 1: the podcast. But let's get into the new episode. Episode
- 2:11Speaker 1: number thirty six is Stupid Young It's the Buelet Cab Podcast,
- 2:15Speaker 1: Bulet Care Podcast. We got the homie Stupid Youngs to
- 2:19Speaker 1: check in. Man new album dropping this Friday, dropping this Friday.
- 2:23Speaker 1: By the time this comes out, it'll be out. So
- 2:26Speaker 1: it's out now, And I feel like you've had a
- 2:32Speaker 1: very slept on twenty twenty. Yep, yep, for sure, you
- 2:36Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like, I know, things are definitely
- 2:39Speaker 1: different as far as you know, show money's not out,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know, just there's obviously a lot of revenue streams
- 2:44Speaker 1: that have kind of closed up for artists during this pandemic.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But how have you kind of handled things? It's been
- 2:49Speaker 1: a blessing in the curse because I bought my house
- 2:51Speaker 1: this year. I saw that, yeah this year, and uh,
- 2:56Speaker 1: I get to spend more time with my son because
- 2:58Speaker 1: I'm on the road. But it's been it's like a
- 3:01Speaker 1: blessing and a curse. You know what I'm saying. They
- 3:03Speaker 1: stop one social income. But if you're a hustler, you
- 3:05Speaker 1: don't get in a gang of different other ways for sure. Man. Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 1: And it's it's crazy because I remember I've been seeing you.
- 3:12Speaker 1: You're a family man, you know what I'm saying, and
- 3:15Speaker 1: you don't hide that. And you know as of mine.
- 3:17Speaker 1: You know, I'm married, I got two kids. But how
- 3:20Speaker 1: has fatherhood changed you? Just as far as just you know,
- 3:25Speaker 1: on a day to day basis, and and and just
- 3:27Speaker 1: as as a as a man like you know what
- 3:29Speaker 1: I mean? That shit changes everybody. I feel like it's
- 3:32Speaker 1: it's a different type of feeling, like it's a uh,
- 3:35Speaker 1: it's a feeling that I never knew that was there
- 3:37Speaker 1: until I have my son, you know what I'm saying.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And I see him say his first word, call me
- 3:41Speaker 1: that Papa or dad whatever. It's different. And motive of
- 3:44Speaker 1: course it's gonnare if you have a kids going more,
- 3:46Speaker 1: that's everybody that cares about life and their kids gonna
- 3:49Speaker 1: motivate them the ground horror, that's a given. But like
- 3:52Speaker 1: to be able to teach him stuff and he learned,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, just just the balance is
- 3:57Speaker 1: the balance for everything, because like I thought, I'm trying
- 4:00Speaker 1: to do this music shit one hundred percent. So I
- 4:02Speaker 1: got to balance out the time with my homies in
- 4:05Speaker 1: the hood or whatever, the music, my family, you know
- 4:08Speaker 1: what I'm saying, business my son, and it's hard to
- 4:11Speaker 1: find that balance. But what the quarantine shit to cut
- 4:14Speaker 1: out shows? But I get to spend more time with
- 4:17Speaker 1: my son, you know what I'm saying. And it just
- 4:19Speaker 1: taught me, like to teach him and wake up every
- 4:21Speaker 1: day teach him something new. And this is this is
- 4:24Speaker 1: is a beautiful thing. It's an unconditional feeling. Yeah, it's
- 4:26Speaker 1: crazy because like I think that's you know, like you said,
- 4:30Speaker 1: it unlock something you didn't even know you like was
- 4:32Speaker 1: inside of you know what I'm saying. For sure, it's
- 4:34Speaker 1: like discovering a new sense or some shit. Yeah, shit
- 4:36Speaker 1: is wild. So you bouy a crib this year, which
- 4:39Speaker 1: is first of all, congratulations, thank you, thank you. Uh
- 4:42Speaker 1: did you get a good deal on it? Uh? I
- 4:46Speaker 1: ain't gonna lie. We was kind of rusting into it
- 4:48Speaker 1: because I was paying like fucking thirty six hundred a
- 4:50Speaker 1: month in rent for a rent that's what I'm paying.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I'm paying like thirty four right now in the condo though,
- 4:56Speaker 1: in at downtown LA. I'm like, I'm like, fuck, man,
- 4:59Speaker 1: all this money you add it up, that's like seven
- 5:02Speaker 1: bands in two months. That's a lot of money. That's
- 5:04Speaker 1: fourteen thousand and four months. Like this sh need to
- 5:07Speaker 1: be going to somewhere else. So yeah, I got a
- 5:09Speaker 1: good deal. I got a cool deal. And then the
- 5:11Speaker 1: real estate we already had relations with them because they're
- 5:15Speaker 1: like related to my girl family what I'm saying. So
- 5:17Speaker 1: it was kind of kind of works out. The price
- 5:19Speaker 1: went up. Ready, I just threw my son's second birthday there,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and then she came over said, oh, your house was up.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Let me know if you want to sell it. I'm like, nah,
- 5:27Speaker 1: I just got in here. We're gonna keep hold. We're
- 5:29Speaker 1: gonna hold on to it, because Yo, that's what's about
- 5:31Speaker 1: la Is. I don't feel like I feel like it's
- 5:34Speaker 1: whenever real estate takes a dip la certain places like
- 5:38Speaker 1: LA and New York usually really don't get it affected
- 5:41Speaker 1: because the man never is gonna like people want to
- 5:43Speaker 1: live here exactly. Ye Hey, so I was telling you
- 5:46Speaker 1: this before, before the cameras came on, Like, bro, Like,
- 5:49Speaker 1: I feel like you had a crazy few years, but
- 5:54Speaker 1: you're one of the biggest factors when it comes to
- 5:58Speaker 1: the West Coast shit. But I feel like you still
- 6:00Speaker 1: don't necessarily get recognition, the recognition that you probably deserve.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I think, I don't know, like racist bidership. I think
- 6:09Speaker 1: it's a lot of it. It's just it's new to
- 6:11Speaker 1: people Like I'm Asian. You know what I'm saying. I
- 6:13Speaker 1: still got work to do, I still got doors to
- 6:15Speaker 1: knock down and ship. I just feel like that that
- 6:17Speaker 1: that plays a big part because I see a lot
- 6:19Speaker 1: of motherfuckers saying, you know, I'm the biggest independent artist
- 6:24Speaker 1: out here in LA who does these numbers? Or I'm
- 6:27Speaker 1: the who does these numbers independent? Or who does this?
- 6:30Speaker 1: Does that? When really I look at my shit and
- 6:32Speaker 1: I look at their ship. Not no competitionship, but rap
- 6:34Speaker 1: is competitive. But it's like, I do these numbers in
- 6:37Speaker 1: my name, don't get mentioned, you know what I'm saying, Like, Yo,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I've I've had conversations with the guys at Empire. You're
- 6:42Speaker 1: like one of the biggest artists as far as just
- 6:46Speaker 1: revenue at the at Empire, they say, I stream very
- 6:49Speaker 1: well with Empire for life for sure. Yeah, you stream
- 6:52Speaker 1: very well. Yo. It's crazy because another guy, like you know,
- 6:56Speaker 1: someone you've got a great relationship with his MASSI who's
- 7:00Speaker 1: shared an Empire statement? What is your biggest statement you've gotten?
- 7:05Speaker 1: Do you not to be in your pockets? You know,
- 7:08Speaker 1: like you know, you get your your monthly Empire you
- 7:10Speaker 1: know what I get, like, oh like money. Yeah, it's
- 7:14Speaker 1: like the biggest month you've had for like like off
- 7:16Speaker 1: your music ship, my whole, my whole, my whole, my
- 7:20Speaker 1: whole life for sure. Nah. But shit, I touched. I
- 7:24Speaker 1: touch a lot of money with Empire. You know what
- 7:25Speaker 1: I'm saying. I touched. I touch a lot of money
- 7:27Speaker 1: with Empire. But let's talk about the first time I
- 7:29Speaker 1: seen some ship. So the first time I seen some ship,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I was eating I think I was. I was. I
- 7:35Speaker 1: was still hustling too. I'm over here paying for all
- 7:38Speaker 1: my music, sit trying to make his meat, paying for
- 7:40Speaker 1: that apartment in downtown because I just had my son.
- 7:44Speaker 1: So he's two now, that's about two years ago. This
- 7:47Speaker 1: like when Mando drop, you know what I'm saying, And
- 7:49Speaker 1: then I get a call from Nima. I was eating
- 7:52Speaker 1: that full out a full restaurant with my girl, and
- 7:55Speaker 1: I'm like, and I'm over before I got that call
- 7:57Speaker 1: from NEMA. I'm talking to homes like we need to
- 7:59Speaker 1: make this place, make this, you know, do little ship
- 8:02Speaker 1: to hustle. And then I get the call from NIMA.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You're like, man, how come you didn't tell me that
- 8:06Speaker 1: we haven't been paying you. It's just been stacking up
- 8:08Speaker 1: and stacking up. And I was just like, what the fuck?
- 8:10Speaker 1: And then he just you know, it was he's like, yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna send do you want to check or I'm
- 8:14Speaker 1: gonna send it to your account like I'm sending to
- 8:15Speaker 1: some counts like how much is He's like fifty seven
- 8:18Speaker 1: thousand or something like. But it was just that's like
- 8:20Speaker 1: the first big number, you know what I'm saying, ship,
- 8:22Speaker 1: And I was just like hell yeah, I was like
- 8:24Speaker 1: I need that run. Yeah. Places didn't go through like
- 8:27Speaker 1: ten minutes ago, right like I'm over here set Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 1: But I got more more from them, more from them,
- 8:33Speaker 1: for sure, you know, after that, but it started getting
- 8:36Speaker 1: bigger and bigger. But I remember that was the first,
- 8:38Speaker 1: like chunky, like that was just no, that was the
- 8:40Speaker 1: first check ever, you know, what I'm saying. Wow, it
- 8:42Speaker 1: was just a hell of a first rap check. Yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 1: I like, what the fuck? What do you think? Because
- 8:47Speaker 1: you have fans that are very very they're like it's
- 8:50Speaker 1: like a cold following, They're very dedicated. What do you
- 8:56Speaker 1: think it is about what you've brought to the marketplace
- 8:58Speaker 1: and what it is that like people resonate with so
- 9:01Speaker 1: much because the stupid young fans are very passionate fans. Yeah,
- 9:04Speaker 1: just like I think, like the the type of music
- 9:08Speaker 1: I put out was like because I like to do
- 9:10Speaker 1: versatile ship, you know what I'm saying. Like sometimes I
- 9:12Speaker 1: wrap about some deep shit they relate to, and then
- 9:14Speaker 1: sometimes I rap about some fun ship like some some
- 9:17Speaker 1: party and shit. I kind of like to do a
- 9:19Speaker 1: little bit of everything when I drop a project. That's
- 9:22Speaker 1: why I think that, like, if they feel like in
- 9:24Speaker 1: this type of mood, they'll listen to this song, or
- 9:26Speaker 1: they feel like they want to turn up on a weekend,
- 9:28Speaker 1: they listen to this. That's why I feel like, you know,
- 9:30Speaker 1: that's why they fucked me, the versatility in it. You
- 9:36Speaker 1: you just tapped in with Draco who just got out.
- 9:38Speaker 1: We just had him up here last week. You guys
- 9:41Speaker 1: did the Little Boozy record shot the video did you
- 9:45Speaker 1: did you and Draco have a relationship prior to him
- 9:47Speaker 1: getting locked up? Yeah? Before it was locked up as
- 9:50Speaker 1: kids for like nine months, and it was real. It
- 9:54Speaker 1: was real tight. It was real close. He didn't rap
- 9:56Speaker 1: at that time, so you knew him since you guys
- 9:58Speaker 1: were kids. You guys are locked up together with like
- 10:00Speaker 1: now juvenile whizdam to put us in a foster care
- 10:03Speaker 1: group home and was together and ship damn. So you
- 10:07Speaker 1: guys got a friendship outside of this rap shit. He
- 10:09Speaker 1: bought me I remember because on the weekend to let
- 10:11Speaker 1: you go with your family on the weekends only Friday
- 10:14Speaker 1: to Sunday. He came back on the whole past like
- 10:15Speaker 1: I got you something he got made a little gift
- 10:17Speaker 1: because I turned, well I turned sixteen, intore or something.
- 10:20Speaker 1: He got me an age hat yellow at Yeah, that's crazy.
- 10:24Speaker 1: So it was like it's crazy because he got out
- 10:26Speaker 1: and just recorded like that whole project. Yeah, Like in
- 10:30Speaker 1: like a week when I was locked up, I had
- 10:33Speaker 1: book composition books all written. You know what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 1: so you're not going like all of it, but you
- 10:37Speaker 1: doing like at least a good amount, Like where you
- 10:39Speaker 1: could put out a couple of projects and ship for
- 10:41Speaker 1: sure with this new album, talk about what was what's
- 10:47Speaker 1: the motivation behind the title? I love the cover from
- 10:51Speaker 1: here on out, From here on out, in the cover,
- 10:53Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of got it. There's a
- 10:55Speaker 1: lot of meaning wrapped up in that cover too. Yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 1: it is. It's like and well, it goes for everybo
- 11:00Speaker 1: even like whether you're a raper or you're just a
- 11:02Speaker 1: not a fire worker with kids or something. It's like,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I feel like a big part of life that a
- 11:07Speaker 1: lot of people don't try to work on is balanced. Yep.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Balance and balance is very very important. That's why when
- 11:13Speaker 1: they say times money, they're really talking about balance. And
- 11:16Speaker 1: that picture just shows balanced because it's like, how do
- 11:19Speaker 1: I balance this shit out where I don't do I'm
- 11:21Speaker 1: not too much in the streets where I get caught up,
- 11:24Speaker 1: or I'm not too much in the music where I
- 11:25Speaker 1: forgot about my people. You know what I'm saying. It's
- 11:27Speaker 1: like it's just a balance, that's why. And I had
- 11:30Speaker 1: a hard time from leaving the streets and shit like that.
- 11:32Speaker 1: So I just told myself, like from here on out,
- 11:35Speaker 1: like I gotta give more percentage to my music than
- 11:39Speaker 1: I am in the streets. Yeah, man, I was gonna
- 11:41Speaker 1: say because I heard you say that earlier, Like have
- 11:44Speaker 1: you noticed, because you know, if if you just kind
- 11:47Speaker 1: of see what's been going on, right, there's been a
- 11:49Speaker 1: lot of people getting caught up with cases and fed shit,
- 11:55Speaker 1: people dying, people getting killed. Bro, like the same fucking
- 11:58Speaker 1: company too too part of artists, you know. Varner was yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 12:04Speaker 1: and uh, it's just it's just crazy because I saw
- 12:11Speaker 1: I think it might have been meek. Someone just said
- 12:13Speaker 1: that being a rapper is the most dangerous job in
- 12:16Speaker 1: the world. Dangers job. It's a dangerous job, and you're
- 12:18Speaker 1: from the streets is a dangerous job. But also if
- 12:20Speaker 1: you're not, because you're aren't you a target? Yeah, you're
- 12:23Speaker 1: a target. Like if you if you're on if you
- 12:24Speaker 1: I feel like any anywhere you go, if you go
- 12:26Speaker 1: to a different city, it's like, oh, this guy's in town.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah that might be you know, a lick to for
- 12:32Speaker 1: someone ahead. And then like it's a it's a target
- 12:35Speaker 1: because like the ship you did before, you know what
- 12:37Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like they know you were super active, they
- 12:39Speaker 1: know you was doing this. Like if you from a
- 12:41Speaker 1: notorious gang. You for sure, it just triple it, you
- 12:45Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about. It just triples it. Like
- 12:46Speaker 1: Varner was tours. This hood is everywhere worldwide, so was
- 12:50Speaker 1: triple but then but then again at the same time,
- 12:54Speaker 1: it is a is an never how you said it
- 12:57Speaker 1: inevitable inevitable, right, because like you could be you could
- 13:01Speaker 1: be so on point, like so like think you on point,
- 13:04Speaker 1: your homie's own point, but a lot of the times
- 13:07Speaker 1: is unexpected. Like it's like Vaughan, that was quanta ornahomie
- 13:11Speaker 1: what I won't speak of who it is, But that
- 13:14Speaker 1: wasn't his enemies like that, ain't you know what I'm saying,
- 13:16Speaker 1: That ain't the other side if the enemies in the city, right,
- 13:20Speaker 1: it was it was some rapper shit. That's what's crazy.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Wasn't his enemies, you know what I'm saying, Like, it's
- 13:26Speaker 1: just is indeviduble, it's unexpected, unexpected. Yeah, yeah, no, definitely,
- 13:32Speaker 1: Like that's what I wanted to ask you about because
- 13:34Speaker 1: obviously you know your track record is clear, Like do
- 13:38Speaker 1: you find yourself maybe like having your circle become a
- 13:42Speaker 1: little bit smaller or maybe watching out like yo, man,
- 13:45Speaker 1: I might not need to go do a B and
- 13:47Speaker 1: C or be around A B and C anymore like
- 13:50Speaker 1: I used to be, just because now I got so
- 13:51Speaker 1: much more to lose. Yeah, yeah, I'll be like that.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But it's like that should that I did like back then.
- 13:58Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying before the rapture off it
- 14:03Speaker 1: like I don't need to be in the hood, you
- 14:04Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I don't need to prove anything
- 14:05Speaker 1: or do anything because a lot of the times is
- 14:08Speaker 1: not my homies. You hear about rappers saying their homies
- 14:11Speaker 1: hitting them because they'd be like, oh man, he just
- 14:12Speaker 1: a rapper. He not in the hood. He never would
- 14:14Speaker 1: he do for the hood. But it's the other way around.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'd be in my section in my homies. But what
- 14:19Speaker 1: you're doing here, man? Or like damn, don do that music? Shit? Bro,
- 14:22Speaker 1: fuck this shit. You know what I'm saying that they
- 14:24Speaker 1: actually tell me the like like what I'm doing here
- 14:27Speaker 1: and shit like that, So I guess that that would
- 14:30Speaker 1: just be my advice. Man. It's like you got something special,
- 14:32Speaker 1: brou And like I think that we've seen a lot
- 14:36Speaker 1: of examples this year that that it's just kind of
- 14:39Speaker 1: shown like it might like ship you got you come
- 14:43Speaker 1: from that background staying out the way might be the way,
- 14:46Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Sure off smarter, who's smarter
- 14:49Speaker 1: for show for show. I was just talking to you
- 14:53Speaker 1: in the lobby because I got a MASI plaque and
- 14:55Speaker 1: I was like, yo, when you getting one of these? Man?
- 14:56Speaker 1: And I know, I know you're close. We're talking about
- 14:58Speaker 1: with Mando, right. I keep checking the members with my
- 15:00Speaker 1: boy Gentry from Empire. It's closed, it's getting closed. It's
- 15:04Speaker 1: just a lot of those streams was overseas. And it's
- 15:07Speaker 1: crazy too because a lot of motherfuckers I don't understand.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I don't know how to real go certification or whatever works,
- 15:14Speaker 1: because it's like a lot of dudes who get those
- 15:16Speaker 1: plaques where YouTube views ain't up there, but man' got
- 15:19Speaker 1: like forty five million, and I'm confused. I'm like on YouTube, yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 1: and I'm like I'll come like my shit is on
- 15:25Speaker 1: fucking you know what? I think? I know, I know
- 15:27Speaker 1: part of that is, uh. I think YouTube streams don't
- 15:30Speaker 1: get counted, don't get the same way, the same like
- 15:34Speaker 1: the same way, especially if you're shit like it's on
- 15:36Speaker 1: your channel, right, yeah, then they should count them because
- 15:39Speaker 1: I know if your shit's on world Star. A lot
- 15:41Speaker 1: of artists who might be watching this if you up. Obviously,
- 15:44Speaker 1: if you upload the world Star, you got a big
- 15:47Speaker 1: audience because they got fucking fifteen million subscribers. But since
- 15:51Speaker 1: it's on someone else's channel, it doesn't go towards your certification.
- 15:55Speaker 1: There's a lot of people whose shit is like, you know,
- 15:59Speaker 1: fifty sixty million world Star, but those of you don't
- 16:01Speaker 1: count towards the song certification because it's not on their channel,
- 16:04Speaker 1: which is kind of wild. Or it might just be
- 16:05Speaker 1: streams or something. You know what I'm saying, facts, facts,
- 16:08Speaker 1: but no, we're talking about obviously the Mandal record. But
- 16:11Speaker 1: you know you and uh and uh now dropped the
- 16:16Speaker 1: Yellow Tape and Yellow Tape too? Was this year? Right? Yeah?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Which is crazy because it felt like it came out
- 16:23Speaker 1: last year. This year has been a fucking weird year.
- 16:26Speaker 1: We're the weirdest whatever. But what you and what about
- 16:29Speaker 1: you and Masie? I think that's like a natural, it's natural. Well,
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'm talking and talks with Davo and him about like
- 16:36Speaker 1: a collad project. We're still thinking about it. I got
- 16:40Speaker 1: like a couple of ideas in mind, but collab projects,
- 16:44Speaker 1: I even want or I might do one with them
- 16:46Speaker 1: or not? Might we are actually with Phoenix flexing from
- 16:49Speaker 1: Shortland Mafia. That'd be crazy. Him did a video and
- 16:53Speaker 1: the fans that said it was good chemistry, so it
- 16:55Speaker 1: was good chemistry. Might as well do more, right, Yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 1: that'd be big for the city, man, I think too.
- 17:00Speaker 1: That's what stuff about you you're being independent is you
- 17:02Speaker 1: could do whatever the fuck you want. If you want
- 17:04Speaker 1: to do a full project with somebody, you're like, Yo,
- 17:05Speaker 1: let's go. Ain't nothing holding you back? Yep? Who's someone
- 17:08Speaker 1: who you're a fan of that that you haven't gotten
- 17:11Speaker 1: to work with? That like maybe like you know, you
- 17:14Speaker 1: you've kind of came up on over the last couple
- 17:17Speaker 1: of years musically right now. I fuck with a lot
- 17:20Speaker 1: of Little Baby Ship, which I almost had the chance
- 17:23Speaker 1: to do a future with him, but he was scheduled it,
- 17:26Speaker 1: and I got in my feelings and I said, man,
- 17:28Speaker 1: fuck that he was scheduled it because it was better
- 17:30Speaker 1: be another big day for me and and the ticket
- 17:33Speaker 1: was lowered that time. Now his ticket is through the roof.
- 17:36Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I fuck with Little Baby shit,
- 17:38Speaker 1: Polo G Ship. I got a record for Polo g
- 17:41Speaker 1: Pology is crazy, just waiting to pull that trigger, YEPU
- 17:44Speaker 1: with Polo g Ship little Baby, little teaser. A lot
- 17:47Speaker 1: of motherfuckers who just do that new autotune waves ship,
- 17:50Speaker 1: but like this melodic Pologic rap his fucking ass off,
- 17:54Speaker 1: you know, Folo g rapper for real? What curious? What
- 17:57Speaker 1: was the ticket for a Little Baby's feature? Back back
- 17:59Speaker 1: when you could have got twenty bands? Damn for video
- 18:02Speaker 1: and verse in the studio, recording in the studio all
- 18:06Speaker 1: that because you know, my my engineer, he recorded, He
- 18:09Speaker 1: engineered like a lot of motherfuckers, and he's always tired in.
- 18:12Speaker 1: He always keep me in the loop, right yeah, shout
- 18:14Speaker 1: out Casey and yeah it was about to be twenty
- 18:18Speaker 1: but he was scheduling and I was like, man, you
- 18:20Speaker 1: know what, fuck that ship and booms one hundred bands
- 18:24Speaker 1: just for the verse. Do you feel like that was
- 18:27Speaker 1: like a lesson learned, like about ego, because I feel
- 18:29Speaker 1: like sometimes we get caught up in our pride and
- 18:31Speaker 1: ship and but it's no like everything you do every
- 18:34Speaker 1: in your career or you know, it's like a win
- 18:36Speaker 1: or lose, you know what I'm saying, Like you win
- 18:38Speaker 1: something you lose something like like Nipsey, I waited too
- 18:40Speaker 1: long for him and he wasn't charging ship. I just
- 18:44Speaker 1: waited too long. I wanted him because he was my
- 18:46Speaker 1: honestly my favorite rapper growing up. Nipsey. Yeah, Nipsey, my
- 18:49Speaker 1: whole section, my whole city. Well not well, all the
- 18:52Speaker 1: a's and long beat fucking now Nipsey's I think Nipsey
- 18:56Speaker 1: for the I mean ship. I first came on his
- 18:58Speaker 1: ship oh nine and got No Name, Volume two. I
- 19:01Speaker 1: believe it's the first project I heard from him. Rest
- 19:04Speaker 1: in peace to that. Yeah, it's crazy because, like I
- 19:06Speaker 1: feel like just in general, man like LA, the wave
- 19:10Speaker 1: in LA right now is extremely strong and it's very
- 19:12Speaker 1: I feel like it's the strongest it's been in a
- 19:15Speaker 1: very long time. I also feel like there's a lot
- 19:16Speaker 1: of camaraderie as to where maybe in the past there
- 19:19Speaker 1: wasn't as much of that. Like, I feel like for
- 19:21Speaker 1: the most part, everyone fucks with each other. I know
- 19:24Speaker 1: that there is it's La so politics getting you know
- 19:26Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But I think for the most part,
- 19:28Speaker 1: like you know, you kind of see the landscape of
- 19:32Speaker 1: LA hip hop. Everyone's fucking with each other, everyone's working
- 19:35Speaker 1: with each other, Like is that like, like, do you
- 19:40Speaker 1: consider yourself a leader of the new LA? Shit? Yeah, no,
- 19:44Speaker 1: because like when they talk about LA, it'll be like
- 19:47Speaker 1: what's West Coast or whatever? Like for sure, but like
- 19:51Speaker 1: like Long Beach always wanted to be his. Long Beach
- 19:53Speaker 1: is his own city. And of course of course, so
- 19:55Speaker 1: it's like I feel like I'm just I'm a lone
- 19:58Speaker 1: Beach dude, you know what I'm saying, Because l they
- 20:00Speaker 1: got their own ship, but then Long Beach just falls
- 20:03Speaker 1: under the l A category. So you could say it's
- 20:05Speaker 1: like a year and the thing I mean yeah, like
- 20:07Speaker 1: look Snoop's the biggest rapper ever from Long Beach, but
- 20:09Speaker 1: I mean everybody looks at it. It's a West Coast ship,
- 20:11Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Yeah, Like you know what
- 20:14Speaker 1: about shout out to Uh? You know, when it comes
- 20:18Speaker 1: to Long Beach, there Snoop O t un State Savvy's dope.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Uh what who, in your opinion is is outside of
- 20:29Speaker 1: Snoop Dogg, who do you think is the greatest Long
- 20:32Speaker 1: Beach MC ever? Besides besides Snoop, I think they dog
- 20:39Speaker 1: Yo for sure. The dog not quite a rapper, but
- 20:42Speaker 1: you know he's a legend for sure. A legend for
- 20:45Speaker 1: sure was Warren G from Long Beach. Yeah he from
- 20:47Speaker 1: Long Beach, So yeah, Warren G. Two Warrn is dope too,
- 20:51Speaker 1: But oh that ship you just gotta be a slider
- 20:53Speaker 1: back on. I feel like Nate Dog is just one
- 20:56Speaker 1: of a kind. Was that guy? I don't think anyone's
- 20:59Speaker 1: ever had the hook bag? It was like Nate Dog.
- 21:02Speaker 1: It was Acon t Pain And then that's really it.
- 21:07Speaker 1: You know you could who I think Blast Blast the
- 21:11Speaker 1: last right now is going to be that guy gonna
- 21:13Speaker 1: be that. I think Tie had a cool has had
- 21:15Speaker 1: to run, Ties had to run Blast, But Blast I
- 21:19Speaker 1: think different. That's an artist artist for sure. People people, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 1: Blast is alien. What you and Blast got anything together? Yeah?
- 21:26Speaker 1: We got a record. We got a record. It's just
- 21:28Speaker 1: not out it. It's not on the album music. No,
- 21:31Speaker 1: probably come on next year. But we got a record.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Because I know you're sitting on a lot of music.
- 21:35Speaker 1: So like a lot, yeah, like a lot a lot.
- 21:37Speaker 1: All the show I'm dropping now, I've been doing it.
- 21:39Speaker 1: It's probably recorded last year. I just like to move
- 21:42Speaker 1: a couple of steps ahead, you know what I'm saying,
- 21:43Speaker 1: Like I'm about to drop this project right now, but
- 21:46Speaker 1: I'm also working on other ship. I mean, shit, man,
- 21:48Speaker 1: next year, that's the way to go independent for show,
- 21:51Speaker 1: I mean shit minds. He dropped two albums this year.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Everybody was dropping multiple ship this year. Are you ever
- 21:56Speaker 1: inspired by any any like East Coast shit like as
- 21:59Speaker 1: a rapper, because I feel like you could rap, you
- 22:01Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? And yeah, yeah. When I grew up,
- 22:04Speaker 1: I always thought rapping was gonna stay like that lyrical.
- 22:08Speaker 1: So I was always like, I'm gonna do some lyrical
- 22:10Speaker 1: shit because I could. I'm like versatile. I could do
- 22:12Speaker 1: the lyrical ship, I could do like the party shop,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I could do the melodic ship. Whatever. But y'all fuck
- 22:17Speaker 1: with East Coast fun with David's tough, Davis is fire.
- 22:21Speaker 1: If I had to bet on a rapper from the
- 22:23Speaker 1: Ys that you fuck with, Davies should probably be just
- 22:25Speaker 1: based on you know, the you know, the you know
- 22:28Speaker 1: shout out and David is so tapped in in La.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I feel like everybody in La fucks with Dave. Dave's
- 22:34Speaker 1: a solid fucking dude man, shout da. What about you
- 22:37Speaker 1: obviously working with te Grizzy doing the video, I feel
- 22:39Speaker 1: like you guys, are kind of made for each other sonically,
- 22:42Speaker 1: you know, I feel like you guys love the same
- 22:43Speaker 1: kind of production. How did that relationship in that record happen? Man?
- 22:48Speaker 1: I just seeing him follow me and not just tapped
- 22:50Speaker 1: in with him, and he's like, I'm like, when you're
- 22:52Speaker 1: gonna be in La, Like you know, I'm out here
- 22:54Speaker 1: in LA all the time. So I'm like sent them
- 22:57Speaker 1: the record. It just made it happen. He invited me
- 23:00Speaker 1: to his video shoot for a single. He wanted to
- 23:04Speaker 1: let me be in a video, which was cool too.
- 23:07Speaker 1: His single off the Project Off h Off, his last album,
- 23:10Speaker 1: He's just dropped aduced by DJ Mustard. I wasn't on that.
- 23:13Speaker 1: I was just in the yeah, which was dope. I
- 23:16Speaker 1: feel like, yeah, he pulled up and did the video too.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yeah for sure, you have to, you know, I mean
- 23:22Speaker 1: with someone like Ta, like I know, he's a realized dude,
- 23:24Speaker 1: Like is that like, like, hey, look just do a swap,
- 23:26Speaker 1: like come do my video? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah for
- 23:28Speaker 1: sure that's dope for you know. Yeah, with you, it
- 23:31Speaker 1: worked like that. That's how it works. When's the last
- 23:33Speaker 1: time you had to pay for a feature h It's
- 23:39Speaker 1: been a while for real, it's been a while. Yeah,
- 23:42Speaker 1: but you you like, usually you still have to pay
- 23:44Speaker 1: something because you gotta pay for the video. Yeah, you
- 23:47Speaker 1: gotta pay for like yo, listen, fam if you need
- 23:49Speaker 1: a fucking more drobe or some food, or I gotta
- 23:53Speaker 1: get you your fucking car to come over to the shoot,
- 23:55Speaker 1: or it's not as easy as like, yo, thanks, just
- 23:58Speaker 1: pull up and you know, do the video bouncing, you know, yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 1: for sure, it's all this when you reach a certain level.
- 24:03Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, man, what is what is
- 24:06Speaker 1: the one thing that twenty twenties taught you? Man? Never
- 24:11Speaker 1: take a nothing for granted, like outside, for sure. Restaurants
- 24:15Speaker 1: and ship, Yeah, never takes shit for granted. That's about it.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Yeah that's some real ship for sure. So many things
- 24:23Speaker 1: that we just considered normal, like watching the Lakers or
- 24:26Speaker 1: some shit, or like going to the movies, simple as
- 24:29Speaker 1: I don't think I think the movies are a rap
- 24:31Speaker 1: for like forever what you said, I just don't think, bro,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I just don't think. Like these theaters are gonna survive, bro,
- 24:38Speaker 1: Like how these motherfuckers are gonna be? Like how long
- 24:42Speaker 1: is it gonna take for people to be comfortable to
- 24:43Speaker 1: go sit in the theater with fucking four hundred other people.
- 24:46Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like, how long can these copies?
- 24:48Speaker 1: Some shit? Now? With her? Though they got some show
- 24:49Speaker 1: where you could rent the theater out, you can't do
- 24:51Speaker 1: that you and your people. That's fire, Yeah, but like
- 24:55Speaker 1: who's doing that? You want to take your bitch to
- 24:57Speaker 1: a movie? You don't want to take fifty people to
- 25:00Speaker 1: a movie. You want to call my parents invite them. Now,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I'm just trying to go with my girl, like low key,
- 25:05Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Some food they night have
- 25:08Speaker 1: switched up in twenty twenty, Yeah for sure that shit. Yeah,
- 25:11Speaker 1: this shit is crazy. I also wanted to talk to
- 25:15Speaker 1: you about you know you and now, like you guys
- 25:20Speaker 1: have a dope chemistry obviously shot out to Stockton. How
- 25:24Speaker 1: did you guys outside of being Asian and being from
- 25:28Speaker 1: the West Coast, because it's almost like, yeah, of course
- 25:32Speaker 1: they would do a project together, right, like or two
- 25:35Speaker 1: rather and yeah, like talk about y'all's relationship and you know,
- 25:42Speaker 1: you guys got to relate to each other because you
- 25:44Speaker 1: guys kind of are both some you know, listen, like
- 25:47Speaker 1: you said earlier, being an Asian dude, rapping. It catches
- 25:50Speaker 1: people off guard a little bit. Yeah. Uh. I feel
- 25:53Speaker 1: like like like I didn't like knowing before the VisiC,
- 25:58Speaker 1: but when I seen this first song, I was just
- 25:59Speaker 1: like I relate to you know, we both aging with
- 26:02Speaker 1: both crips whatever. I got a hood in my neighborhood
- 26:05Speaker 1: down here. Is also when stocked in and asked the
- 26:08Speaker 1: homiesa hey, man, I'm gonna do something with this dude,
- 26:11Speaker 1: he hard as fuck y'all dude, like, is there a
- 26:14Speaker 1: politics between that? There was no politics. So we linked
- 26:17Speaker 1: and it was just love and it was just like
- 26:19Speaker 1: the ship I talk about is really really really real,
- 26:22Speaker 1: like from my area and the ship he talked about
- 26:24Speaker 1: it's really real from his area, you know what I'm saying.
- 26:26Speaker 1: So I just it's just and we linked and it
- 26:28Speaker 1: was just good chemistry from there. That's that's dope. Yes,
- 26:33Speaker 1: shout out to him, man. I feel like both of
- 26:36Speaker 1: y'all got your wave. And then the yellow tape was
- 26:38Speaker 1: just a very genius for sure. Dom Kennedy had a
- 26:43Speaker 1: yellow tape? Did you know that when you guys did that? Noah,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I didn't think about nobody when we did that. I
- 26:48Speaker 1: feel like fit us more. I was about to say,
- 26:50Speaker 1: you really can't like what you really can't. Nobody can
- 26:54Speaker 1: say ship like yeah, I get it, I get it, Yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 1: I get it. You know what I'm saying. Anything else
- 27:00Speaker 1: on the horizon for you, like like are you expanding
- 27:03Speaker 1: like you know, acting or anything different that that that
- 27:06Speaker 1: is outside of the music situation. I wasn't like two movies.
- 27:09Speaker 1: It just ain't. No. Yeah, they're chopping it around. I
- 27:11Speaker 1: believe that in the COVID, you know, stopped a lot
- 27:13Speaker 1: of ship. But other than that, No, I'm gonna just
- 27:16Speaker 1: keep working, raising my son, finding ways to make money,
- 27:20Speaker 1: and that's it. Any more children. You want to have
- 27:22Speaker 1: more kids? My girl want more kids a side, but
- 27:25Speaker 1: of course she does buy your dog. I'm like, man,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you having a hard time just fucking cleaning this big
- 27:32Speaker 1: ass house and watching one son? You want another one?
- 27:34Speaker 1: Just buy buy her a dog. Bro, if you want
- 27:37Speaker 1: a dog, just get her the puppy and that'll that'll
- 27:39Speaker 1: put it like a twelve month band aid on the pro.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I need longer than that, Yeah, he said, I need
- 27:44Speaker 1: three or four years. I might get three dogs for show. Hey.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you this because I was being
- 27:50Speaker 1: in LA Is it has there ever been a situation
- 27:53Speaker 1: where you might have wanted to have worked with someone
- 27:55Speaker 1: or you didn't work with someone even though there was
- 27:57Speaker 1: no like bad blood because of the politics. Hey, I'm
- 28:01Speaker 1: in that situation a lot, even without music. Like it's
- 28:05Speaker 1: weird because there's a lot of politics, but like I
- 28:07Speaker 1: could do something historical with this person, and then there's
- 28:12Speaker 1: just a lot of politics behind that, you know what
- 28:14Speaker 1: I'm saying. But it's like I did. I did ship
- 28:17Speaker 1: with some essays where the Mexicans who we are cool
- 28:21Speaker 1: with in the city didn't get along with you know
- 28:23Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But it was all about business and
- 28:25Speaker 1: bridging that gap, Like like I'm all about bridging that
- 28:29Speaker 1: gap unless you like my super number one ops, and
- 28:31Speaker 1: that's that's never gonna happen, right, right, But it was
- 28:35Speaker 1: like a little tension and shit, I'm pretty sure it
- 28:36Speaker 1: could bridge that gap and make history happen and shit,
- 28:39Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. But yeah, it's always politics
- 28:42Speaker 1: for sure, even including us. You know what I'm saying,
- 28:45Speaker 1: it's always politics. Give me the I guess the difference
- 28:50Speaker 1: between you know, the Asian section of where you're from,
- 28:55Speaker 1: and then like what is the difference between the like
- 28:58Speaker 1: obviously historically we think of crips from Long Beach they
- 29:02Speaker 1: look a certain way, and and people who aren't from
- 29:06Speaker 1: Long Beach or who don't who aren't aware of the
- 29:09Speaker 1: Asian presence, right, Like if you're someone who's from like
- 29:13Speaker 1: fucking Wichita, Kansas, and you're like, wait, there's Asian crips.
- 29:17Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like what is the difference
- 29:20Speaker 1: and if any and like how does how does it
- 29:24Speaker 1: kind of fit into the grand scheme of of everything
- 29:27Speaker 1: when it comes to that ship without getting like obviously
- 29:30Speaker 1: too too into it. Well, you know, like how we
- 29:34Speaker 1: form was because the Cambodian Kama Rouse War, which is
- 29:39Speaker 1: very slept on. They only know about like Hitler and
- 29:41Speaker 1: the Holocaust and shuff like that. But it was killing
- 29:44Speaker 1: the ruler of Cambodia was killing millions of our people
- 29:47Speaker 1: and millions. He just wanted to eliminate everybody and they
- 29:50Speaker 1: were doing that and it was like one point something
- 29:52Speaker 1: million Cambodia is getting killed through the whole country and
- 29:55Speaker 1: it's very slept on. And then I forgot what president was,
- 29:58Speaker 1: well year RESI it was like the seventies shit. So
- 30:02Speaker 1: then like late seventies, so then my dad and she
- 30:05Speaker 1: was already born and shit over there my mom. There
- 30:08Speaker 1: were young, very young kids. And then I forgot what
- 30:11Speaker 1: president was at the time. I don't know Reagan or
- 30:14Speaker 1: I don't know Reagan or Jimmy Jimmy Carter, maybe Reagan.
- 30:17Speaker 1: If it was Reagan or somebody early eighties, late seventies,
- 30:21Speaker 1: it's like Reagan, Jimmy Carter. Yeah, I'm thinking Reagan, but
- 30:24Speaker 1: I could be wrong. Don't quote me on it. But
- 30:26Speaker 1: they were they helped out, and they went over there,
- 30:28Speaker 1: and they brought us over here. And then some you know,
- 30:30Speaker 1: they I think the Vietnam Vietnam helped us, but they
- 30:33Speaker 1: brought us over here. In the large there was two
- 30:36Speaker 1: places where a large group of cambodies went to. Number
- 30:39Speaker 1: one where the most went to was Long Beach, California,
- 30:41Speaker 1: and then the second one was Boston, Massachusetts. That's where
- 30:44Speaker 1: we have a hood as well. And it was just
- 30:46Speaker 1: like we came over here and the other races, the
- 30:50Speaker 1: Blacks and Hispanics and Long Beas wasn't used to us.
- 30:53Speaker 1: But we were mainly beefing with the Hispanics. And then
- 30:56Speaker 1: the Blacks was already beefing with the Hispanics and then
- 30:58Speaker 1: their blacks were crips, and which is the only city
- 31:00Speaker 1: in the US whereas all crypt city there's not one bloodhood.
- 31:04Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Either you crip or you
- 31:07Speaker 1: south Side or Mexican. So we adapted to the community
- 31:12Speaker 1: and became crips. That's how people and then it just
- 31:14Speaker 1: spread like wildfire. And we're different because we're just like
- 31:18Speaker 1: I don't know, we just programmed different, you know what
- 31:19Speaker 1: I'm saying. Yeah, how disconnected is the Long Beach politics
- 31:22Speaker 1: from like La politics because you know obviously and even
- 31:25Speaker 1: in the valley there's like Pacoima and you know, it's
- 31:27Speaker 1: very it's very disconnected. Like with us, it is disconnected,
- 31:31Speaker 1: but it's kind of like our neighborhood is like our
- 31:34Speaker 1: like my neighborhood from in Long Beach was also in
- 31:37Speaker 1: the SV was in Van Eyes. They was also in
- 31:40Speaker 1: San Gabe Valley. They're also in Orange County. So like
- 31:43Speaker 1: they beef with those neighborhoods, which brings it to us
- 31:45Speaker 1: because it's like you be for one you before all,
- 31:47Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, But then it's like it's disconnected,
- 31:49Speaker 1: but it's kind of connected, like you know what I'm saying.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Do you have do you feel like being like like
- 31:56Speaker 1: you are you? Do you feel like you're a role
- 31:58Speaker 1: model for like young young kids that look like you
- 32:00Speaker 1: out of your city? Yeah? For sure? Do you take
- 32:03Speaker 1: that like to the heart because I feel like, you
- 32:05Speaker 1: know when you really can you know, maybe steer some
- 32:08Speaker 1: kids the right direction. Yeah, I kind of want them
- 32:10Speaker 1: to be be like you could be successful without getting
- 32:13Speaker 1: locked up or end up dead and and being you
- 32:16Speaker 1: could be cool because everyone is a kid. Want to
- 32:18Speaker 1: do what everyone is doing. Be the cool kids. You
- 32:20Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. You could be cool and successful
- 32:23Speaker 1: and without taking the same path I took, you know
- 32:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Yeah, like I think that you know, obviously,
- 32:29Speaker 1: we all are where we are because of our life experiences,
- 32:31Speaker 1: and you probably shouldn't regret much in life, you know
- 32:33Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But you know, if you could help
- 32:35Speaker 1: steer steer somebody a different direction because you already walked
- 32:39Speaker 1: that path for them, you know what I mean. What's
- 32:42Speaker 1: your favorite song on this album? Damn, that's a hard one.
- 32:48Speaker 1: O don't know. I got a lot of I got
- 32:50Speaker 1: a lot of favorite ones. I got that one, the
- 32:52Speaker 1: one I sent you. Yeah, that one. I feel like
- 32:54Speaker 1: you send me like four records. The one that I
- 32:57Speaker 1: liked though, I think it was called, uh, it's late.
- 33:01Speaker 1: It's called stupid Freestyle, but it's titled Yeah, it's titled that,
- 33:05Speaker 1: but it's really called stupid freestyle and there's just no hook,
- 33:08Speaker 1: no nothing. I'm just going on. I never wrapped like
- 33:11Speaker 1: fast like that before. Well you actually freestyle, yeah, yeah,
- 33:14Speaker 1: because when you came on Meeting Head show, you was
- 33:17Speaker 1: actually off the top of the head for a lot
- 33:18Speaker 1: of that ship, and a lot of people can't do that.
- 33:21Speaker 1: A lot of people, that's not what they do. They're like,
- 33:24Speaker 1: you're just telling me that I ain't got nothing ready.
- 33:26Speaker 1: You know, you was coming off the top of the
- 33:28Speaker 1: head for sure. So yeah, we had all kinds of
- 33:30Speaker 1: people like, who is this Asian guy saying the N
- 33:33Speaker 1: word on youall show? Sure, Yeah, it's crazy you have
- 33:38Speaker 1: you like you've gotten obviously critiqued for using the N
- 33:44Speaker 1: word writing your music and ship all the time, Like
- 33:47Speaker 1: is that something that you've evolved on it all? I
- 33:50Speaker 1: listened to your music like the New Ship and learn
- 33:53Speaker 1: to ignore it because it's like that at the end
- 33:56Speaker 1: of the day, that's how I grew up. That's how
- 33:57Speaker 1: I was raised, the environment I was raised, and there's
- 34:00Speaker 1: it is a saying that I always say. They threw
- 34:03Speaker 1: Tarzan in a jungle and he came out like that.
- 34:06Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. He didn't come out a
- 34:08Speaker 1: different way they like. It doesn't matter about the environment
- 34:11Speaker 1: you were raised. You have your own action and choices. No,
- 34:14Speaker 1: it doesn't. It does matter. Your environment makes you who
- 34:17Speaker 1: you are in a way, you know, most of the time,
- 34:19Speaker 1: at least, like you know, like eighty ninety percent. I'm
- 34:23Speaker 1: part of the eighty ninety percent for sure. Like you
- 34:25Speaker 1: could tell me to stop saying the N word or
- 34:28Speaker 1: this and that, But as soon as the I stopped
- 34:30Speaker 1: rapping or this and that and I go back to
- 34:31Speaker 1: my regular life, that's who I am. I'm gonna still
- 34:33Speaker 1: be like that to the till I fucking Has it
- 34:37Speaker 1: ever costed you any opportunities for features or relationships, not
- 34:41Speaker 1: that I know of. It could be someone that want
- 34:44Speaker 1: to fuck with me because of that, but't you just
- 34:46Speaker 1: don't know about it? The word? Yeah, yeah, that's well,
- 34:48Speaker 1: listen man, you could rap Man music is solid. The
- 34:52Speaker 1: project is officially out now because this is coming out afterwards,
- 34:58Speaker 1: and then you got you. I mean what songs that
- 35:01Speaker 1: we talk about. You got features ready for Blue Face
