- 0:24Speaker 2: Should that have interest in JJ McCarthy, No, that'll be harsh.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Where do you draw the line?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Like, who was too up? Better than of the top five?
- 0:32Speaker 3: All of them except kill Williams.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Then then we're we're.
- 0:36Speaker 3: What are we doing? That's given up? He's one game
- 0:38Speaker 3: since he's been in the league. I don't know if
- 0:40Speaker 3: you want me to look it up for you. We
- 0:42Speaker 3: haven't peen them. Man, I mocked that pick. I remember
- 0:44Speaker 3: the night when it happened, mocked and made fun of him. Yeah,
- 0:48Speaker 3: I'm out on mock drafts too.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Good for you.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Good for you, go on to the dark side.
- 0:53Speaker 2: But if you have to go to mock draft rehab
- 0:55Speaker 2: to be out on mock drafts, out.
- 0:56Speaker 3: On mock drafts. That's the best thing I've heard saying
- 0:58Speaker 3: the show couple of because you kids like to say,
- 1:02Speaker 3: with your fantasy terms, here we go again, Like.
- 1:06Speaker 4: That is very different from that's very different. Nerds Rope
- 1:11Speaker 4: also fantastic.
- 1:12Speaker 3: There's no surprise that the scout likes nerds. Wow.
- 1:17Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered.

- 1:26Speaker 2: Welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is a rainy and windy
- 1:30Speaker 2: Thursday here at Jillets Stadium. Hail, hail some places, snow
- 1:35Speaker 2: in other places further north. It's a wild and wacky
- 1:38Speaker 2: day today. Yeah, so we're okay.
- 1:41Speaker 3: How is the cape?
- 1:42Speaker 5: You got wind down, a lot of wind, a lot
- 1:43Speaker 5: of rain. Yeah, it seems like snow up north. But
- 1:46Speaker 5: thank god, April, what's going on?
- 1:48Speaker 3: Hate it?
- 1:49Speaker 2: It's it's crazy. Well at least it's not snow for us.
- 1:52Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, well hail, I mean that's pretty close. Yeah,
- 1:54Speaker 5: slippery must fell almost fell a little bit.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I couldn't even take the dog out this morning.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Wolf slippery and Sharon, huh. It was a little sippery.
- 2:03Speaker 5: But right as I was leaving the house that I'm
- 2:05Speaker 5: about eight eight fifteen something, it was all of a
- 2:06Speaker 5: sudden it just started haling.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Like it's like that kind of weird weather where it's rain,
- 2:10Speaker 3: it's ale, it's the wind. Sleep.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Sleep, what's the difference between sleet and hail?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Sleep?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Those balls balls yeah.
- 2:17Speaker 3: And you were like contractually obligated to say it's like
- 2:20Speaker 3: golf ball size. Hey, that wasn't quite unless it's really
- 2:23Speaker 3: bad at softball size. Oh no, No, it wasn't that big.
- 2:26Speaker 3: It wasn't that big.
- 2:26Speaker 2: But weather cliches great weather talk cats and dogs.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a little slippery on one twenty eight.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I will say I think it was more because of
- 2:34Speaker 3: the wind. It was sort of you know, veering you
- 2:38Speaker 3: off course a little bit, and then there was a
- 2:39Speaker 3: lot of slush on the road. But luckily we didn't
- 2:44Speaker 3: get really any snow.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't stick in Peabody anyway, right because of
- 2:49Speaker 2: the ocean.
- 2:50Speaker 3: All right, Yeah, Peoboty is not like ocean side. All right, Salem,
- 2:56Speaker 3: big news yesterday. It's it's and it's Paul, it's me.
- 2:59Speaker 3: It's jewel in that in the booth. Stefan Diggs. Yeah,
- 3:04Speaker 3: moving out, thank god.
- 3:05Speaker 2: A lot of people said they'd never trade him. And
- 3:08Speaker 2: I know, Paul, you don't think that the bills are revamping.
- 3:13Speaker 3: But they are. And I didn't say they're not revamping.
- 3:15Speaker 3: That's exactly what I said they are doing. I said
- 3:18Speaker 3: it's not cap related.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I didn't say that.
- 3:20Speaker 3: No, but that, But that's what I said. Didn't say
- 3:23Speaker 3: what you said. This is, this is I want different
- 3:26Speaker 3: guys on my team.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Other than Josh Allen was starting over right.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Pretty much. They want to change out some guys on
- 3:34Speaker 3: their team. Yes, they're moving on from guys. I don't
- 3:37Speaker 3: know if they're doing the right thing. I'm not trying
- 3:39Speaker 3: to like argue on Buffalo's behalf behalf, But this has
- 3:43Speaker 3: nothing to do with like cap casualties, which they're almost
- 3:46Speaker 3: always portrayed as. No, I'm not saying that's what I push.
- 3:49Speaker 3: It's actually cost. They wanted him off the team so
- 3:53Speaker 3: bad they were willing to pay an extra three million
- 3:55Speaker 3: on the cap, which is further proof. Yeah, that the
- 3:58Speaker 3: cap doesn't matter. It's the saving.
- 4:00Speaker 2: This is not money related.
- 4:02Speaker 3: They are saving a lot of money.
- 4:03Speaker 2: This is we don't think we can do it with
- 4:06Speaker 2: this roster, and we're gonna redo our roster. That's how
- 4:09Speaker 2: I read it.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I read it that they're looking at
- 4:11Speaker 3: this wide receiver. But I said the day before the
- 4:13Speaker 3: league year started.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I mean they, I mean, I don't know what the
- 4:16Speaker 5: rather needs are off the top of my head, but
- 4:18Speaker 5: with this wide receiver class, we've talked plenty about like
- 4:20Speaker 5: they're gonna probably get a first round pick with a
- 4:22Speaker 5: fifth round fifth year option, and then maybe they get
- 4:24Speaker 5: another one down in the third round and they'll have
- 4:26Speaker 5: all of a sudden, you know, two guys I don't
- 4:28Speaker 5: know if they'll hit or not, but.
- 4:29Speaker 2: A young So I make fun I say, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 2: the windows closing in the They've closed the window and
- 4:34Speaker 2: now they're going to reopen it with new people.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Yeah, take a half step back and then you know,
- 4:39Speaker 5: recalibrate around Josh Allen while he's still young, and give
- 4:41Speaker 5: them some guys that will be under rookie contracts for
- 4:43Speaker 5: you know, a couple of years. I mean, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 5: it's it's I mean, I give them credit, you know,
- 4:48Speaker 5: to kind of have the you know, courage to blow
- 4:51Speaker 5: it up a little bit, maybe before they could have
- 4:52Speaker 5: wrote it out one more year with Diggs.
- 4:53Speaker 2: And I hear people say, well, that's what the Patriot
- 4:55Speaker 2: should be doing. They don't have a Stefan Diggs to
- 4:58Speaker 2: move for assets. They don't have the people that are
- 5:03Speaker 2: worth getting rid of that you can you know, get
- 5:05Speaker 2: the assets for you might as well resign these guys.
- 5:08Speaker 2: They're not in the same boat. No, and then the
- 5:10Speaker 2: Bills in the Patriot.
- 5:11Speaker 5: And then you look at Houston, who you know, was
- 5:13Speaker 5: drafted well with a couple of their you know, receivers
- 5:15Speaker 5: that they brought in, and now they're at the place
- 5:17Speaker 5: where let's get that final piece to really you know,
- 5:20Speaker 5: make it all click into place. So you see the
- 5:22Speaker 5: directions that the two teams are going. I don't think
- 5:24Speaker 5: the Patriots are in position of either of those teams.
- 5:26Speaker 5: You hope to be one day, but.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Every team is going through the same exercise where they're
- 5:30Speaker 2: evaluating their roster and how close are we are we
- 5:35Speaker 2: not close? You know? Do we need to revamp? Do
- 5:38Speaker 2: we Is it just a couple of pieces in the Patriots,
- 5:41Speaker 2: you know position, there's a lot of holes that they
- 5:43Speaker 2: need to fill, but they're doing it. And to me
- 5:46Speaker 2: this the Bills are clearly saying we need to revamp,
- 5:50Speaker 2: we need we need new people.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Just said but do you guys think the timing was
- 5:54Speaker 5: weird of this? Like why it happened?
- 5:55Speaker 3: Now?
- 5:56Speaker 5: That was my only kind of is that, you know,
- 5:58Speaker 5: I don't know, maybe they were talking at the owners
- 5:59Speaker 5: meet to really hash it out last week, maybe, but
- 6:02Speaker 5: it just.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Seems like a weird little draft gets close, I think
- 6:05Speaker 3: you sort of start to figure out what exactly you
- 6:07Speaker 3: want to do, you want to get it done.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Yeah, there's some there's some trades like Tyreek Hill I
- 6:11Speaker 4: think got traded around this time from the Chiefs to
- 6:14Speaker 4: the Dolphins. So it's not to I think Paul's right.
- 6:17Speaker 4: You know, you're really your hay is in the barn
- 6:18Speaker 4: for the most part when it comes to the draft.
- 6:20Speaker 4: So if you're like a couple of these guys in
- 6:22Speaker 4: the draft, then you you're feeling good about replacing Stefan
- 6:25Speaker 4: Diggs that way. So now you decide, all right, well
- 6:27Speaker 4: we'll move on or whatever. But I give the Bills
- 6:30Speaker 4: some credit to for realizing that they've plateaued with this
- 6:33Speaker 4: core and saying it just it's not good enough and
- 6:35Speaker 4: we need to restart. I don't know how the coach
- 6:37Speaker 4: survived that, Like, I still don't really understand that piece
- 6:40Speaker 4: of it. But I think for both teams, the Bills
- 6:42Speaker 4: and the Texans, it just shows when you have the
- 6:44Speaker 4: quarterback the Bills are looking at and like, well, Josh
- 6:46Speaker 4: Allen will make anybody better. So we're just gonna draft
- 6:49Speaker 4: a receiver in the first round and he's gonna make
- 6:51Speaker 4: Adie Mitchell as good as defund or if you're the Texans,
- 6:55Speaker 4: you're saying, we have the quarterback, so let's put ourselves
- 6:58Speaker 4: over the top by adding Steffans. The Patriots don't have
- 7:01Speaker 4: the quarterbacks, so they can't be in either boat. They
- 7:03Speaker 4: can't be the team trading away the receiver talent and
- 7:05Speaker 4: they can't be the team acquiring the receiver talent.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Yep, it's got to be the team trying to draft
- 7:10Speaker 5: the quarterback talent.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Yeah, hopefully.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So now, what do you think about the narrative that
- 7:14Speaker 2: I heard yesterday? The AFC East now is wide open.
- 7:17Speaker 3: I don't really understand that mentality, No, I mean not
- 7:20Speaker 3: for the Patriots. I mean the Patriots are at the
- 7:22Speaker 3: very least looking up.
- 7:23Speaker 5: I mean maybe it's a little bit more wide open
- 7:25Speaker 5: for the Jets and the Dolphins with.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Good teams in the division. I mean, I don't really
- 7:30Speaker 3: understand what changes because you lose a receiver, Like I
- 7:33Speaker 3: read a lot of it, and this is one of
- 7:35Speaker 3: your rare not a straw man. Actually actually saw the
- 7:38Speaker 3: same stuff that you did, and I just scratched my
- 7:40Speaker 3: head wondering what people think this team is by comparison
- 7:45Speaker 3: to Miami Buffalo and the Jets in terms of personnel,
- 7:47Speaker 3: I definitely don't understand.
- 7:49Speaker 4: It doesn't close the gap for the Patriots, but I
- 7:51Speaker 4: do think that the Bills will take a step back.
- 7:53Speaker 4: I mean it's not just Stefan Diggs. They gave up
- 7:56Speaker 4: half their defense also, you know, I mean, they gave
- 7:58Speaker 4: a lot of their veteran players and the defense side
- 8:00Speaker 4: of the ball too.
- 8:01Speaker 3: But they've replaced them with players that they think that
- 8:03Speaker 3: they are going to be better off with. Are you
- 8:06Speaker 3: now again, I don't know if they're right.
- 8:08Speaker 2: This is not a They've replaced them with people I
- 8:10Speaker 2: think in the long term, who they think they're going
- 8:12Speaker 2: to be better off with.
- 8:13Speaker 4: This just feels like it feels so Bridge year Patriots
- 8:17Speaker 4: to me, where you know nine type of Patriots?
- 8:20Speaker 3: Where where instead of going twelve before, you go eleven
- 8:23Speaker 3: and five? Correct, because that's what it feels like to me.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Correct and and suddenly it's but you realize the wheels.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Are off, but you realize that the team is not
- 8:31Speaker 4: championship caliber, whereas I think Buffalo just choked.
- 8:34Speaker 3: So in terms of Super Bowl caliber, I would agree
- 8:37Speaker 3: with you. In terms of AFC East champion caliber, someone's
- 8:40Speaker 3: got to do it first interesting right before I do
- 8:43Speaker 3: you thrown them interesting too.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Its just to watch Josh Allen have to adjust without
- 8:47Speaker 5: I mean losing Gabe Davis and and Diggs. I mean
- 8:49Speaker 5: those guys have been distrust during the drink for the
- 8:51Speaker 5: last few years. You you know, you still have Kinkaid
- 8:54Speaker 5: and Dalton called h Dalton Keene.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, Shakiir is going to have a lot
- 8:59Speaker 3: on his play. But I evin't made a point about
- 9:03Speaker 3: what teams like that do, and this is what comes
- 9:07Speaker 3: with that responsibility. Kansas City just did it, and I
- 9:12Speaker 3: don't think that Josh Allen's Patrick comes but this is
- 9:15Speaker 3: what good teams do. When you have that guy. You
- 9:19Speaker 3: have to make good decisions and ones that maybe I
- 9:23Speaker 3: bet if you ask Sean McDermott, he would have said,
- 9:25Speaker 3: you know what, we can ride this out one more
- 9:27Speaker 3: year with Steph. But it's probably not the right thing
- 9:30Speaker 3: to do, you know, And you have a quarterback that
- 9:33Speaker 3: should be able to take just say a d Mitchell.
- 9:36Speaker 3: You should be able to take Mitchell and Shakir and
- 9:38Speaker 3: be Okay, You're not going to be great, But you know,
- 9:42Speaker 3: I think the tight ends were a bigger part of it.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Last year with Kincaid. I think they ran the ball
- 9:49Speaker 3: more with Cook last year. In the second half of
- 9:51Speaker 3: the season, They're probably looking at it as like, maybe
- 9:54Speaker 3: we don't have to have a guy catch one hundred
- 9:56Speaker 3: and ten passes, you know.
- 9:58Speaker 4: And then them out and throw his holme. And if
- 10:02Speaker 4: you look at the best Petrion time, you're way ahead
- 10:05Speaker 4: of the curve on this. But anybody not that.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I not that I disagreed with you in terms of
- 10:09Speaker 3: describing him the way you decide it. I don't think
- 10:12Speaker 3: he's a jerk off the field, but he certainly is
- 10:15Speaker 3: every bit the diva wide receiver that we see. But
- 10:18Speaker 3: if you look at the second half of the season,
- 10:20Speaker 3: when they played their best football, Steph Diggs was an afterthought.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He was.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Now there's a big difference between your numbers going down
- 10:28Speaker 3: and completely removing him. I get that. Yeah, So maybe
- 10:32Speaker 3: Shakir was playing well because Steph Diggs is occupying coverage
- 10:36Speaker 3: on the other side. You can't That's something that's hard
- 10:39Speaker 3: to quantify and you don't know what until you do it.
- 10:42Speaker 3: But the fact of the matter is when they played
- 10:44Speaker 3: their best football last year, he was an afterthought in
- 10:46Speaker 3: the offense.
- 10:47Speaker 5: I mean I think, to me, the Jets are the
- 10:49Speaker 5: team that should be looking at this like okay, like
- 10:52Speaker 5: you know, they they might have taken a little bit
- 10:53Speaker 5: of a step back, and they've got all these one
- 10:55Speaker 5: year deals. Aaron Rodgers close to the end like this
- 10:58Speaker 5: to me is the move to the Jets.
- 10:59Speaker 2: But if Aaron Rodgers plays well, I'm scared of the Jets.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Sure they beat us last year.
- 11:06Speaker 2: You know, I'm not just talking about us, I'm talking
- 11:08Speaker 2: about the league.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I mean, they they they.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Can make a run, and they've got some talent on
- 11:15Speaker 2: that team.
- 11:16Speaker 3: He gets to the playoffs and checks right, it is
- 11:18Speaker 3: a good team. You're right, Yeah, I'm teasing you.
- 11:21Speaker 2: But the other the other a FC power could we
- 11:24Speaker 2: see a crack a Fisher in the damn with the
- 11:28Speaker 2: Rashid Rice situation?
- 11:30Speaker 3: Oh would have took their news on that?
- 11:32Speaker 4: Well, they admitted that he's he's probably he's probably gonna
- 11:35Speaker 4: get his slap on the ris suspension.
- 11:36Speaker 3: You think so maybe a month? Maybe four games? Okay,
- 11:40Speaker 3: you think he's going to get suspended for that? I
- 11:41Speaker 3: think so. Do people die?
- 11:43Speaker 2: No?
- 11:43Speaker 3: But I mean it's alcohol, alcohol involved. I don't know.
- 11:47Speaker 4: But after the Henry Ruggs thing, I just think it's
- 11:50Speaker 4: a bad look for the league overall to have these
- 11:52Speaker 4: guys out there drag racing. So he's going to get
- 11:55Speaker 4: reprimanded somehow.
- 11:56Speaker 2: From Actually, if alcohol was involved, he might have done
- 11:59Speaker 2: the smartest thing he could have done and by leaving
- 12:02Speaker 2: the scene, right.
- 12:03Speaker 3: But I mean, you know, if legally alcohol is involved,
- 12:05Speaker 3: then he's got to get suspended.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but they can't. They he wasn't tested, They couldn't
- 12:10Speaker 2: find him till the next day, so there's no proof
- 12:13Speaker 2: of that.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Well, I think it's the same thing with the Bills.
- 12:15Speaker 5: As you know, there's a good receiver class, and when
- 12:17Speaker 5: you have Patrick Mahomes, you feel like you're already ahead
- 12:19Speaker 5: of the game and you're gonna draft one of these
- 12:21Speaker 5: kids anywhere from the first three rounds that you know
- 12:23Speaker 5: has some speed, and all of a sudden boom, you
- 12:25Speaker 5: know you've got another piece to kind of play with.
- 12:27Speaker 2: When you have great teams like the Patriots or the Chiefs,
- 12:31Speaker 2: you look for signs that guys are doing dumb things.
- 12:35Speaker 4: And Stefan Diggs was he was disgruntled, like he was
- 12:39Speaker 4: a deva receiver that that was disgruntled. I mean, he
- 12:42Speaker 4: was openly disgruntled, you know, in the media and stuff
- 12:45Speaker 4: like that and on Twitter, like tweeting, you know, we'll
- 12:47Speaker 4: see what they what the bills would be without Steffan Diggs,
- 12:50Speaker 4: you know that type of stuff, like even before he
- 12:53Speaker 4: got traded. So I he here's a problem. But I
- 12:56Speaker 4: look at the receiver class too, and you know, all
- 12:58Speaker 4: of us, I think would would be excited if the
- 13:01Speaker 4: Patriots traded for T Higgins or made one of these
- 13:04Speaker 4: splash receiver trades. But clearly the league loves the receiver
- 13:08Speaker 4: class just as much as everybody else does, because all
- 13:10Speaker 4: they got was the twenty twenty five second round pick
- 13:12Speaker 4: for Stefan Diggs. And I wonder what the asking really,
- 13:15Speaker 4: what's out there right now for T Higgins. You know,
- 13:18Speaker 4: you're gonna have to trade for him, and you're gonna
- 13:19Speaker 4: have to pay him one hundred million dollars and give
- 13:22Speaker 4: him a contract extension. And I think a lot of
- 13:24Speaker 4: teams that especially teams that are good at drafting receivers,
- 13:26Speaker 4: are gonna sit there and say, well, I mean I
- 13:29Speaker 4: can have Kean Coleman, or I can have Xavier Lagette,
- 13:32Speaker 4: or I could have you know whoever at thirty four
- 13:35Speaker 4: instead of trading and then paying an older T Higgins.
- 13:39Speaker 4: I think that the receiver market this year, outside of
- 13:43Speaker 4: Calvin Ridley's contract, has been very, very poor because of
- 13:47Speaker 4: this class.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I read somewhere else where somebody said that the Bengals
- 13:52Speaker 2: are clearly all in because they're not moving T Higgins,
- 13:55Speaker 2: they're keeping him. They're all in.
- 13:57Speaker 3: I think that's probably what's gonna happen.
- 13:59Speaker 5: I mean, draft could spur some movement, but I think.
- 14:03Speaker 3: He's probably gonna stay with the Bengals.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Yeah, real quick, though, Fred, I thought what you were
- 14:07Speaker 5: gonna say was the vote about the stadium in Kansas City.
- 14:10Speaker 2: That's you know, that's a good one, Mike. I was
- 14:12Speaker 2: going to bring that up because they turned down the
- 14:15Speaker 2: public funding in Kansas City, so.
- 14:20Speaker 3: So that Kansas might make a play, yeah for the Chiefs, but.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I was going to bring that up in relation to
- 14:24Speaker 2: what the Bills are doing. You know, they're building a stadium,
- 14:27Speaker 2: and I think I'm not sure if it's fully passed.
- 14:30Speaker 2: The money that they're getting, and now you're kind of
- 14:33Speaker 2: retooling in the midst.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Of that, is that risky?
- 14:37Speaker 2: You know, I guess as long as you have Josh Allen,
- 14:39Speaker 2: you know, it's okay, but you know, you're getting rid
- 14:42Speaker 2: of players, and you know, do fans look at this
- 14:46Speaker 2: as you know, Oh, it's going to be a reset.
- 14:48Speaker 2: It's going to take a few years before that we
- 14:49Speaker 2: get back to where we were.
- 14:51Speaker 3: You know, it's maybe I'm whistling past the graveyard. I
- 14:54Speaker 3: just don't see like all that big of a change.
- 14:58Speaker 5: As long as yeah, Alan, and as long as just
- 15:01Speaker 5: like Kansas City and I said.
- 15:02Speaker 3: It, yeah a million times is as long as he's healthy,
- 15:05Speaker 3: they're going to have Kansas City will have a chance
- 15:06Speaker 3: to win the super Bowl every year. Now, maybe Buffalo
- 15:09Speaker 3: is not at that level because Allen's not at that
- 15:10Speaker 3: Mahomes level. But as long as they have Alan, they
- 15:14Speaker 3: will be a threat in the playoffs every year. Yeah. Yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 3: maybe it's a notch down from the super Bowl because
- 15:20Speaker 3: he ate Mahomes. No one else is either.
- 15:22Speaker 4: I just look at the defense side of the ball.
- 15:24Speaker 4: They broke up that safety tandem. They already had lost
- 15:26Speaker 4: Tremaine Edmonds a couple of off seasons ago. There's just
- 15:29Speaker 4: a lot of new faces on that defense.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Now.
- 15:31Speaker 4: McDermott's a good defensive coach, so maybe he just makes
- 15:33Speaker 4: it work on his own. It's not so much Digs,
- 15:35Speaker 4: because I think that they can replace Diggs and Alan
- 15:38Speaker 4: is that good that he'll just elevate the offense by himself.
- 15:41Speaker 4: But defensively, they've have been really, really good on that
- 15:44Speaker 4: side of the ball really since McDermott took over.
- 15:46Speaker 5: I think what's interesting to me too, was last year.
- 15:48Speaker 5: You know, we talked a lot about going into that
- 15:50Speaker 5: season where the big conversation point with Buffalo was trying
- 15:53Speaker 5: to get Josh Allen to kind of you know, I
- 15:55Speaker 5: don't want to say play it safe, but along those lines,
- 15:57Speaker 5: and you know, I wonder if that's gonna be even
- 15:59Speaker 5: harder for him this year now that he's got some
- 16:01Speaker 5: new pieces that he might not trust the same way.
- 16:03Speaker 2: The percentage of targets that Diggs had compared to the
- 16:06Speaker 2: rest of the.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Office had to be overwhelmed.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Not this past year, but two years ago it was.
- 16:10Speaker 4: He was one of the target share is one of
- 16:12Speaker 4: the highest in the league this past year because the
- 16:15Speaker 4: last half of the season when they switched coordinators, he
- 16:17Speaker 4: kind of got phased out. So that was a big
- 16:20Speaker 4: reason why he was pissed off.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so disgruntled.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Yeah all right, Yeah, but you mentioned in Kansas City,
- 16:27Speaker 2: they turned down the renovation. I mean, I don't know
- 16:29Speaker 2: if that's that big a story, you know, good for them, Yeah, no,
- 16:33Speaker 2: I agree these owners have to.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I don't really agree with public funding.
- 16:39Speaker 2: No, it's true. I mean, and you know, we live
- 16:41Speaker 2: in a state where nobody's in favor of it. And
- 16:44Speaker 2: you know, Robert Kraft had a you know, this is
- 16:46Speaker 2: a long time ago, but had to finance this thing.
- 16:49Speaker 2: All he got was like seventy million for infrastructure, which
- 16:52Speaker 2: he had to pay back. So like he got no
- 16:55Speaker 2: money for the stadium basically compared to some of these
- 16:59Speaker 2: other places where it's to the point where the team
- 17:01Speaker 2: doesn't really even own the stadium. They just have a
- 17:04Speaker 2: sweetheart lease and it's run by the municipality.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Chargers, right, you know them too they explicit.
- 17:09Speaker 4: I mean, look at Buffalo. Buffalo's stadium is I think
- 17:11Speaker 4: one point four billion and eight hundred and fifty million
- 17:15Speaker 4: is coming from the state and then the palu because
- 17:17Speaker 4: are footing the rest of it. So it's the seventy
- 17:21Speaker 4: five percent of it is is state owned.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Right you know, So do you really own it when
- 17:26Speaker 2: the state, you know, I know, like the Texans don't
- 17:30Speaker 2: own that stadium. You know, there's a lot of teams
- 17:34Speaker 2: that the Giants I think they have most of it.
- 17:37Speaker 2: But that's also you know, the New Jersey Convention Authority, right,
- 17:43Speaker 2: you know.
- 17:45Speaker 3: I get it.
- 17:46Speaker 2: I get taxpayers saying no, you know, we know how
- 17:49Speaker 2: much money you're making.
- 17:50Speaker 5: Well, that was I mean, we spend a lot of time,
- 17:52Speaker 5: you know, talking about the Patriots in that poll, but
- 17:54Speaker 5: I mean the ownership for the Chiefs was pretty poorly
- 17:56Speaker 5: rated too, which was really, you know, just surprising to me.
- 17:59Speaker 5: You think teams are winning, that's what what pans care about.
- 18:01Speaker 2: But yeah, that's when you do the vote is after
- 18:03Speaker 2: you win a Super Bowl, and even then it didn't pass, you.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Know, yeah, yeah, Well I wonder how much that survey
- 18:10Speaker 3: had to do with it, because you know, it's obviously
- 18:14Speaker 3: the players that are you know, answering those questions. If
- 18:17Speaker 3: if the fans of the team are looking at and say, well,
- 18:20Speaker 3: all of our guys they don't like, they don't like
- 18:22Speaker 3: the owners because the owners promised to do X, Y
- 18:26Speaker 3: and Z, and instead he upgraded his suite. I'm sure
- 18:29Speaker 3: you guys have seen that. Well, and then he never
- 18:32Speaker 3: he didn't really do a lot of the things that
- 18:33Speaker 3: he said he was going to do.
- 18:35Speaker 2: His background to that because no, no, no, because when
- 18:39Speaker 2: when when Hunt first bought the team, he was from
- 18:43Speaker 2: Texas and he literally built a two level suite that
- 18:46Speaker 2: he lived in at the stadium. So that was already
- 18:50Speaker 2: there and they just kind of refurbished it.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Yeah, they added a story. Yeah one, But like you know,
- 18:55Speaker 3: so it's not like Swift. It's one thing to do
- 18:58Speaker 3: that while you're doing all the things that your players
- 19:02Speaker 3: are telling you need to be upgraded. They didn't. Well,
- 19:06Speaker 3: according to them, I don't know the inner work.
- 19:09Speaker 2: So I put my own I'll put my management hat
- 19:11Speaker 2: on and say, yeah, we don't want to throw money
- 19:13Speaker 2: into the stadium because we want a new stadium. That's
- 19:16Speaker 2: what we want to do.
- 19:17Speaker 3: But again, it's okay to refurbish my suite.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Well yeah, I mean that's one little part. I'm I'm
- 19:23Speaker 2: sure that's probably overblown.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I think if you saw it, you would say it
- 19:26Speaker 3: was one little bit.
- 19:27Speaker 2: But my point is it was already had a spiral staircase,
- 19:30Speaker 2: and it was already you know, an elaborate suite as
- 19:34Speaker 2: suites go, you know, and they just they made it better. Yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 2: it's oh, it's.
- 19:38Speaker 3: A whole house. It's three I believe it's three stories,
- 19:40Speaker 3: like a New York City apartment.
- 19:42Speaker 2: It is the owner, literally, the original owner, Lamar Hunt,
- 19:46Speaker 2: actually lived there.
- 19:47Speaker 3: And I don't hold it against them that he has
- 19:49Speaker 3: it like that. That part of it is not really
- 19:52Speaker 3: relevant to the It's that he decided this was the
- 19:55Speaker 3: time I'm gonna upgrade it. Well, evidently the locker room
- 20:00Speaker 3: is a mess.
- 20:01Speaker 5: That's what you guys have been there though. How was
- 20:03Speaker 5: that stadium?
- 20:03Speaker 3: Over all?
- 20:04Speaker 2: It's it's an you know, they tried to do some
- 20:07Speaker 2: renovations a few years ago. I guess they made some
- 20:10Speaker 2: areas better, the press box, for one, But it's an
- 20:15Speaker 2: old state.
- 20:15Speaker 3: It's awesome old.
- 20:16Speaker 2: It's kind of like Fenway. You're putting lipstick on a pig,
- 20:20Speaker 2: you know.
- 20:20Speaker 3: But you it's just it's way nicer.
- 20:24Speaker 4: It feels like such a football atmosphere though you don't
- 20:28Speaker 4: get in the NFL like it's almost like a college.
- 20:30Speaker 2: That was kind of Yes, no doubt.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I'm not positive it was actually the first, but I
- 20:34Speaker 3: think it was like the first like sort of modern
- 20:37Speaker 3: football bowl stadium like that. That's the way they built it.
- 20:43Speaker 3: It's a great place. It really is now it's all
- 20:46Speaker 3: It's time has come. I understand why they want to.
- 20:49Speaker 4: The only thing that's bad about it is that the
- 20:51Speaker 4: press box is like built on top of the three
- 20:55Speaker 4: hundred level of the stadium, and it's like you can
- 20:59Speaker 4: tell that it's it was like separate, you know, like
- 21:01Speaker 4: it was built like afterthought. Yeah, it was like you know,
- 21:03Speaker 4: like like you're at one of those amusement parks that
- 21:05Speaker 4: like just picks up sticks and moves all the time,
- 21:08Speaker 4: and I'm just like, I don't want to be up here.
- 21:10Speaker 5: This is is Buffalo getting there? Are they going to
- 21:12Speaker 5: be an indoor team? Are they getting a door? They're
- 21:14Speaker 5: gonna be a.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Outdoor There was a petition to be a dome. I
- 21:17Speaker 3: thought it was no.
- 21:19Speaker 4: I don't think so. No, but they there's some of
- 21:21Speaker 4: the fan base and wanted it to be a dome
- 21:23Speaker 4: because that's the type of team they are, you know,
- 21:25Speaker 4: Josh Allen and you throw the ball fifty times and
- 21:27Speaker 4: be inside and not worry about the weather.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I guess it's hard.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I've kind of like it.
- 21:31Speaker 3: I think it's a huge advantage for them because he
- 21:33Speaker 3: can throw the ball in any weather and teams come
- 21:35Speaker 3: in there and can't.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I've changed my tune over the years about domes. I
- 21:39Speaker 2: used to be really anti dome. There's football, but now
- 21:42Speaker 2: it's like you're charging so much money, and you know,
- 21:47Speaker 2: it's such a TV product.
- 21:50Speaker 3: People are going to games and dying welles.
- 21:53Speaker 2: But you know that's just stupidity. But you know, I
- 21:58Speaker 2: kind of I don't. I'm not so anti dome as
- 22:00Speaker 2: I used to be.
- 22:01Speaker 3: You know, I don't love domes. I'll admit it. But
- 22:06Speaker 3: it's not because of you know, like the Andy Hart,
- 22:09Speaker 3: you know, Iron game, Like I you know, I would
- 22:15Speaker 3: rather watch a game outdoors. But there's certainly games like
- 22:20Speaker 3: the Jets game last year when you're slogging through all
- 22:23Speaker 3: the snow to try to get you know, it wouldn't
- 22:25Speaker 3: be bad if we were in a dome.
- 22:27Speaker 2: It separates coaches. Yeah, I love good coaches can adapt.
- 22:30Speaker 4: I love everything about domes. Yeah, like when we go
- 22:32Speaker 4: to the Raiders in Vegas, I'm.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Because it control controls all.
- 22:37Speaker 4: This is this is it, this is what I want,
- 22:41Speaker 4: open air, press box, dome, steady. It's fantastic, like and yes,
- 22:46Speaker 4: because I don't want to go watch the elements have
- 22:49Speaker 4: a factor in the game that it becomes six to
- 22:51Speaker 4: nothing in a rainstorm against the Chargers.
- 22:53Speaker 3: I'd much rather watch good football. So I see, I
- 22:55Speaker 3: feel that way. I've long felt that way, and I'm
- 22:58Speaker 3: surprised actually to hear Fred sort of changes tune.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe because I'm getting older, because.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Old I don't like extreme weather games. Now I don't mind.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Like outdoors in general is fine, except for when it's
- 23:12Speaker 3: like the Kansas City Miami playoff game like that to me,
- 23:14Speaker 3: a survival of the fittest, Like that's no fin right,
- 23:17Speaker 3: you know, like what did you really do today?
- 23:19Speaker 5: It's like the perfect world you could have both in
- 23:21Speaker 5: each stadium and you know you're out open air in
- 23:24Speaker 5: the fall, and then as it gets cold and you
- 23:25Speaker 5: know you want to prevent those games.
- 23:27Speaker 3: I mean it's head surrandoerus, the retractable roof.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I just like, you know, some people say, oh,
- 23:32Speaker 4: you know, the men from the Boys thing, or like
- 23:34Speaker 4: the coaching, you know, like the win game, like the
- 23:36Speaker 4: coaching mat To me, the coaching is when you actually
- 23:39Speaker 4: get to like scheme things up and actually call plays,
- 23:42Speaker 4: because that's harder to do than to just have run
- 23:46Speaker 4: the ball sixty times in a wind storm.
- 23:47Speaker 3: It's not it's not about like a coaching like dominance
- 23:51Speaker 3: because the weather prevented teams from playing to the best
- 23:54Speaker 3: of their ability. Yeah, so good weather talk on the
- 23:58Speaker 3: show Good Weather.
- 23:59Speaker 2: It's a lot of weather, all web.
- 24:01Speaker 3: It's ridiculous that we're in the first week of April
- 24:03Speaker 3: and we're talking about like this level of a storm.
- 24:07Speaker 3: I don't know why we live here.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Oh, we've always had storms like this. I remember April first.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Remember the April Fools snowstorm that got.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I think I was in high school. Yeah it was.
- 24:17Speaker 4: I think it was maybe two years ago that we
- 24:19Speaker 4: got snow at this time of year, like an actual snowstorm.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't remember.
- 24:26Speaker 2: All right, Uh, phones are still down. You know, we're
- 24:29Speaker 2: still waiting for a new phone system. I don't know
- 24:31Speaker 2: when that's gonna happen. Matt sprung on me today. I
- 24:35Speaker 2: needed another new piece of equipment to make it work.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Is it a telephone?
- 24:39Speaker 5: Yeah, we need to call my defense.
- 24:43Speaker 3: I warned we would need equipment. I just didn't send
- 24:45Speaker 3: the link. Take that little wire with the clip and
- 24:48Speaker 3: you put it in the phone jack needed, Pa, Why
- 24:53Speaker 3: don't you just give out yourself people speaker.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Right, I don't think I want the p listeners having
- 24:59Speaker 5: my personal cell phone. No, you don't want about your
- 25:01Speaker 5: work on you know what I mean to Eldrick.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Dues, wake up. I had a thought, Paul, I disagree
- 25:10Speaker 3: with you like I'm trying to eat dinner. You can't
- 25:13Speaker 3: even call it. To defend himself, he will right, oh
- 25:17Speaker 3: not today somehow? All right?
- 25:18Speaker 2: What else before we go to emails and what else?
- 25:21Speaker 5: All that stuff I've just I haven't seen the whole thing,
- 25:24Speaker 5: but but I thought Julie Edelman and Ernie.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Adams was pretty funny, fantastic, good good call that was.
- 25:29Speaker 5: That was excellent, unbelievably Friday Night Lights, Ernie directing buzz Bissinger,
- 25:34Speaker 5: which randomly had come up show Buzzy Buzzy. He calls
- 25:38Speaker 5: him Buzzy, which I had no idea that he was
- 25:41Speaker 5: with those guys.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Frequent training care. He is, okay.
- 25:46Speaker 4: So it's it's very long, it's almost three hours. But
- 25:49Speaker 4: I listened to it yesterday when I on my way home,
- 25:52Speaker 4: and it's it is fantastic, Like it is as good
- 25:57Speaker 4: as it gets for football content that isn't like direct
- 26:00Speaker 4: football content. Him talking about just all the things that
- 26:04Speaker 4: they talked about that obviously the Friday Night Lights thing
- 26:06Speaker 4: was really cool. He talked a little bit about the
- 26:09Speaker 4: Niners in the Super Bowl and their decision and what
- 26:11Speaker 4: he would have done, which is what he did here,
- 26:13Speaker 4: So that was really cool. He talked about meeting Bill
- 26:16Speaker 4: Belichick for the first time and how they became friends.
- 26:20Speaker 4: I mean, it was just that guy does he should
- 26:23Speaker 4: be a Hall of Famer in my book anyways, but
- 26:25Speaker 4: like he's also hall of famer when it comes to
- 26:28Speaker 4: do and stuff like that. Like he was fantastic.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Yeah. I could see a lot of people now saying, oh,
- 26:33Speaker 2: we need to get Ernie Adams as a guest because.
- 26:36Speaker 3: He's so quirky and interesting.
- 26:37Speaker 2: But he's got so much information.
- 26:39Speaker 3: I just encourage everybody to go into the archives podcast.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Is there hats from the past? Ernie Adams was a
- 26:45Speaker 3: tremendous guest. Yeah.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and then.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Like a lot of other things, Yes, we have done.
- 26:49Speaker 2: That talking about you know, defenses and you know, playing
- 26:52Speaker 2: with leverage and you know the basics of you know,
- 26:56Speaker 2: what you do when it's cover five or something like that,
- 26:59Speaker 2: and like the way he explains it, like him and Bill,
- 27:02Speaker 2: it was just probably so obvious.
- 27:04Speaker 5: Yeah, that was that was one where they were Julian
- 27:07Speaker 5: was talking about playing defensive back and he just like,
- 27:09Speaker 5: just don't.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Lose your leverage.
- 27:11Speaker 5: And then they started talking about Kansas City about all
- 27:13Speaker 5: of a sudden they go to cover five and like,
- 27:15Speaker 5: what are you guys doing that?
- 27:16Speaker 3: Just that stuff? Thank you? Interesting? Yeah that was the.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Best part, right, Yeah, yeah, he was great. It was
- 27:23Speaker 4: It's long, so you gotta have time to be able
- 27:26Speaker 4: to sit down and watch the whole thing, but it's
- 27:28Speaker 4: worth it.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good stuff. What's the name of Julian's podcast?
- 27:32Speaker 3: Games with Names? Yeah? Games with Names?
- 27:34Speaker 2: Games with Names? Highly recommended.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Yeah, you got an Ernie T shirt too that he
- 27:39Speaker 3: dropped out. Is that name kind of like what you
- 27:41Speaker 3: and I always talk about, like all the Patriots games
- 27:44Speaker 3: have names? Or is it just that's a.
- 27:46Speaker 5: Good question, Paul, I've been wondering exactly.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I think that's what it's referring, because, you know what.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Mike and I have that big joke that we can
- 27:53Speaker 3: just rattle off two dozen games that have names.
- 27:56Speaker 5: I'm ashamed because you're probably right, and I was like,
- 27:58Speaker 5: I'm like, what does that mean?
- 27:59Speaker 3: Is it like I'm playing with famous people?
- 28:01Speaker 2: It's the snow game, it's the there's the.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Wind immaculate reception. There's the like Brandon Cook's game, there's
- 28:12Speaker 3: the Harper's Muff game. Right, there's the Mortar Kick game.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Like they have a lot of names. Yeah, you know that.
- 28:18Speaker 3: All you have to do is say one thing in
- 28:22Speaker 3: Patriots fans know the game you're talking about, right.
- 28:24Speaker 4: That's how just legendary the run was. Was that, like
- 28:27Speaker 4: there's just so many of them and we all watched them,
- 28:29Speaker 4: and we were all there till like it's crazy, and
- 28:32Speaker 4: Ernie just does a great job of talking about it
- 28:35Speaker 4: from like there's nobody more other than maybe Bill that's
- 28:38Speaker 4: more educated on what went on here for that period
- 28:41Speaker 4: of time. So that part of it, I just think
- 28:44Speaker 4: it's fantastic.
- 28:45Speaker 2: The thing that occurred to me most, you know, listening
- 28:47Speaker 2: to some of it was what a loss it was
- 28:51Speaker 2: for Bill when Ernie retired, Like he really was part
- 28:55Speaker 2: of his brain and he lost part of his brain
- 28:58Speaker 2: when Ernie left.
- 29:00Speaker 5: It was at least somebody who saw the game the
- 29:02Speaker 5: same way as him and and clearly had a respectable
- 29:05Speaker 5: relationship with him, where he could, you know, chime in
- 29:07Speaker 5: on that headset and say Bill, you know, wrap it out.
- 29:10Speaker 5: And Bill was you know instantly new he was right.
- 29:12Speaker 5: I mean that he go back to high school with
- 29:14Speaker 5: the guy that the shorthand that they had together. So yeah,
- 29:16Speaker 5: another another aspect. I think that certainly didn't help things
- 29:19Speaker 5: the last couple of years.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Yep.
- 29:20Speaker 4: This talk about the Super Bowl decision to kick or
- 29:24Speaker 4: not kick at an overtime was interesting. And he brought
- 29:27Speaker 4: up the fact that if you go second and you
- 29:31Speaker 4: know you need something, then you have fourth down, right,
- 29:34Speaker 4: And I think that, you know, that was his whole thing,
- 29:35Speaker 4: was like you can call your drive knowing that you
- 29:38Speaker 4: have four downs, so it makes it even easier in
- 29:41Speaker 4: his mind to.
- 29:43Speaker 3: The first time kicking off. Yeah.
- 29:45Speaker 4: Yeah, So and he said that he him and Bill
- 29:49Speaker 4: had already been thinking about the strategy of what they
- 29:53Speaker 4: would do before the rule even passed, because they knew
- 29:56Speaker 4: the rule was coming, so they had already been talking
- 29:58Speaker 4: back and forth about what would you do, how would
- 30:01Speaker 4: we approach this, that sort of thing.
- 30:03Speaker 2: That's why I would love to have Ernie and Bill
- 30:05Speaker 2: think about this new kickoff arrangement and what what they
- 30:09Speaker 2: would do. I'm sure Bill already has to.
- 30:11Speaker 3: So when normal people say that that was done with
- 30:15Speaker 3: San Francisco did which blew up on Twitter right as
- 30:18Speaker 3: it happened. Right, that's nothing. No if Bill and but Ernie.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Mustache, you're like, oh, this is kind of fun.
- 30:27Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 30:27Speaker 3: I didn't. I didn't think that I like And he
- 30:29Speaker 3: actually said, it's the first time that you should like that,
- 30:32Speaker 3: you should kick something like that. Interesting that we kicked
- 30:35Speaker 3: away a super Bowl kicking in overtime.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Oh jas well they also took the wind and that
- 30:41Speaker 4: worked out.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Yeah, well it really it really didn't that that went
- 30:45Speaker 3: back and forth three times. They punt died and finally
- 30:48Speaker 3: a punt hit a guy in a leg and the
- 30:50Speaker 3: Patriots took over and in field goal the game. But
- 30:54Speaker 3: they cost themselves to the Super Bowl by doing that
- 30:56Speaker 3: in fifteen. I'm much more upset about that.
- 31:01Speaker 2: I didn't know what's going on all right, web radio pages.
- 31:05Speaker 3: It's just like the hero worship is ridiculous. Like the
- 31:08Speaker 3: most obvious thing which happened live at the time that
- 31:12Speaker 3: everybody said. He comes on a podcast and says and
- 31:14Speaker 3: it's like mind blown, like it's just ridiculous, Like everybody
- 31:21Speaker 3: know Shanahan screwed up. Everybody knew what before it happened. Yeah,
- 31:25Speaker 3: he does. And the one thing.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I'm not as strongly on it as Paul is, but
- 31:30Speaker 4: Ernie does like to talk out of both sides of
- 31:31Speaker 4: his mouth a little bit, where like he's not an
- 31:34Speaker 4: analytics nerd, but he is an analytics nerd, you know,
- 31:38Speaker 4: and like these nerds don't know. And it's like, but
- 31:42Speaker 4: wait a second, to your your title here was director
- 31:46Speaker 4: of Football Research, and what you did for the Patriots
- 31:50Speaker 4: was analytics, but not those analytics. It's my analytics, you know,
- 31:55Speaker 4: And like those people don't know what they're talking about.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Yeah, but I did.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Like when we talk about like value with contracts, the
- 32:03Speaker 4: Patriots didn't just pull that out of their butts. They
- 32:05Speaker 4: had models that projected like this is what we think
- 32:08Speaker 4: this guy is worth. What do you think all these
- 32:10Speaker 4: nerds are doing in all these front offices now? But
- 32:13Speaker 4: if you asked Ernie, nerds don't know why they're doing.
- 32:15Speaker 3: It's the same thing like Paul saying.
- 32:16Speaker 5: It's like it's like Ernie just like you go to
- 32:17Speaker 5: a spreadsheet and it comes spits this out, but Ernie
- 32:19Speaker 5: just like processes it and he just says it like,
- 32:21Speaker 5: you know, that's like.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Clock management, right, I don't need a spreadsheet, right, you know,
- 32:26Speaker 2: I would love, you know, before the game and you know,
- 32:29Speaker 2: the two teams would be out warming up and you know,
- 32:32Speaker 2: going through their you know, run throughs or their walkthroughs
- 32:35Speaker 2: before the game, and Ernie would stand with his back
- 32:37Speaker 2: to the Patriots and just watch the other team. And
- 32:40Speaker 2: I always wondered, like, what information are you getting, Like
- 32:44Speaker 2: is it isn't useful or.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Or you know, oh I know, and obviously thought it
- 32:48Speaker 3: was minutia. Probably Well, you're looking to see the formations
- 32:52Speaker 3: what they're doing, because that's generally what the game plan
- 32:54Speaker 3: is going to be. Yeah, like yeah, okay, that they
- 32:57Speaker 3: ran thirty plays before the game and twenty of them
- 33:01Speaker 3: were out of you know, three wide receiver sets.
- 33:03Speaker 2: But you know even that you would do that and
- 33:05Speaker 2: give away your game plan.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Well, you're not really expecting the other team to be
- 33:09Speaker 3: looking like the way he used to do it. That's
- 33:11Speaker 3: why he got in a fight in Buffalo.
- 33:12Speaker 2: And I find that too, like why wouldn't you.
- 33:15Speaker 3: That's why did you ever see? Like the teams the
- 33:18Speaker 3: way they line up when they do that, it's to
- 33:20Speaker 3: block the other team from being able to see you.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Except for the Patriots would have a guy in the
- 33:24Speaker 3: opposite end zone, which is why Buffalo wanted to fight
- 33:27Speaker 3: them in Buffalo. It was happened like five years ago.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Yeah, you think he's watching like the kickers, the ball
- 33:35Speaker 5: comes off their foots, what their range is.
- 33:38Speaker 3: So Lee Johnson remember Lee Johnson punter. Yeah, he used
- 33:43Speaker 3: to say this is guy like this guy who was
- 33:46Speaker 3: just like just watching me kick. He's got creepy he's
- 33:50Speaker 3: got these big glasses. Do you remember this Fred Johnson.
- 33:53Speaker 3: He's like, I don't know what he's doing, but every kick,
- 33:56Speaker 3: he's watching me kick. He's looking down, he's at me.
- 34:00Speaker 3: He's watching me kick every single kick. You know, I'm like,
- 34:02Speaker 3: what is this guy doing? What is he looking at?
- 34:05Speaker 3: What does he want? He got cut like shortly thereafter.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Now what fascinating guy.
- 34:11Speaker 3: The last straw for Lee Johnson was that Chargers game
- 34:16Speaker 3: in O one that Brady led them back to, you know,
- 34:19Speaker 3: with the late score. He mishandled a snap and like
- 34:22Speaker 3: sort of served it up on a platter for a touchdown.
- 34:24Speaker 3: That's what put the Patriots behind by ten, like in
- 34:27Speaker 3: the fourth quarter, and that was it. I think he
- 34:29Speaker 3: got cut the next week, but he's just he goes,
- 34:32Speaker 3: why is this guy staring at me?
- 34:34Speaker 2: All the time.
- 34:34Speaker 3: He's always watching me. I think they got Josh Miller
- 34:37Speaker 3: twirling his mustache. I like Ernie. Ernie was a lot
- 34:41Speaker 3: of fun with no socks, and I when we did
- 34:45Speaker 3: the podcast more so he was. He was better off air.
- 34:49Speaker 3: And I know people always you know why, you know,
- 34:52Speaker 3: why didn't you have the best stuff? But he just
- 34:54Speaker 3: he was much more personable and fun off air. Yeah,
- 34:58Speaker 3: on Airy was very straight forward. Here's the facts, man.
- 35:01Speaker 5: It's funny always having a moment now in his retirement,
- 35:03Speaker 5: because I remember, I think I've told the story before
- 35:05Speaker 5: how I got an Ernie Adams autograph, which was kind
- 35:08Speaker 5: of funny. But he was kind of always this guy
- 35:10Speaker 5: behind the scenes that you didn't really know. He was
- 35:12Speaker 5: like the genius behind Bill and who. I think ESPN
- 35:15Speaker 5: had an article about him that was like, you know,
- 35:16Speaker 5: who is this man?
- 35:17Speaker 3: What does he do?
- 35:18Speaker 5: And they asked a bunch of people and you know,
- 35:19Speaker 5: now it's he's in a three hour podcast. You know,
- 35:22Speaker 5: he's in the Dynasty. He's doing like dramatic things. He's
- 35:26Speaker 5: in all kinds of things.
- 35:27Speaker 4: So yeah, it's kind of quite the personality too, like
- 35:30Speaker 4: and they kept him hidden.
- 35:31Speaker 5: It's like and like Bill has like disappeared, like no
- 35:33Speaker 5: one has seen Bill Belichick since what here?
- 35:35Speaker 3: Like has anybody seen Bill?
- 35:36Speaker 1: Like?
- 35:36Speaker 2: You know?
- 35:37Speaker 3: And he's doing.
- 35:39Speaker 2: The tour And back in the day he was a
- 35:40Speaker 2: notorious day trader. I mean like made money. Oh I
- 35:44Speaker 2: bet trading stock.
- 35:46Speaker 3: I wish I was that smart. Lee Johnson again, Yeah,
- 35:49Speaker 3: Lee Johnson was big on the day?
- 35:51Speaker 2: Was he?
- 35:52Speaker 3: Uh?
- 35:52Speaker 2: David in Madrid? Right?
- 35:54Speaker 3: Sin? Wow?
- 35:55Speaker 2: I have an unpopular opinion and wanted to hear your
- 35:57Speaker 2: thoughts about it. We all admit that the rebuild is
- 36:00Speaker 2: going to take at least two years, well not everyone,
- 36:04Speaker 2: and there are four left tackles that are going to
- 36:06Speaker 2: be very good slash elite next year's draft. Due to this,
- 36:09Speaker 2: I feel like we should take a quarterback and two
- 36:12Speaker 2: wide receivers with the top three picks and draft to
- 36:15Speaker 2: tackle next year in the first round. Hope to get
- 36:17Speaker 2: your opinion.
- 36:19Speaker 5: I don't I don't even sure. I don't really I
- 36:21Speaker 5: don't really hate that. I mean I just think you
- 36:23Speaker 5: gotta kit whatever you pick this year. I mean, you
- 36:25Speaker 5: need I don't care if they took a freaking cornerback
- 36:27Speaker 5: for your first round, Like you just you need star players,
- 36:29Speaker 5: you need power, You know guys who are game changers,
- 36:32Speaker 5: and you know, I think you're probably gonna have to
- 36:35Speaker 5: wing it at a couple spots this year, you know,
- 36:37Speaker 5: whether it's I mean, I don't want it to be quarterback,
- 36:40Speaker 5: but I.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Could see it being quarterback.
- 36:42Speaker 5: I could see it being Jacoby Brissett and a mid
- 36:44Speaker 5: round selection that you don't.
- 36:45Speaker 3: Really have high hopes for. I just hope that.
- 36:48Speaker 5: And Paul, we've been saying it since I started here
- 36:50Speaker 5: with you going to the draft.
- 36:51Speaker 3: It's just it's not a little like Eldrid when Paul
- 36:54Speaker 3: we've been saying this.
- 36:56Speaker 5: Get one of these freaking receivers are good like draft
- 36:58Speaker 5: a good receiver like that.
- 36:59Speaker 3: It's not that hard wide receiver class. Get one of them,
- 37:03Speaker 3: and we managed to get that aren't really productive. So
- 37:08Speaker 3: that that's my big thing. Get one of those. I
- 37:10Speaker 3: don't care about the order either. I don't. I would
- 37:13Speaker 3: and I would welcome an email back in to sort
- 37:16Speaker 3: of explain why, if there are so many tackles that
- 37:21Speaker 3: are so highly rated, would you want to wait till
- 37:23Speaker 3: next year.
- 37:24Speaker 2: No, he's saying next year there are tackles. That's what
- 37:27Speaker 2: he's saying.
- 37:27Speaker 3: He said, next year, there are four Next how.
- 37:30Speaker 5: Do we know that there's there's tackles every year.
- 37:34Speaker 3: There are some guys next year. I mean, like, I mean,
- 37:35Speaker 3: this is exceptionally strong class of tackles, is it not.
- 37:38Speaker 3: It's it's very good at the top. It's not very deep,
- 37:41Speaker 3: but it's very good at the top. And again, I
- 37:43Speaker 3: don't care if you want to get the wide receiver first,
- 37:45Speaker 3: that's okay, I.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Have there's no Joe alt next year, like Joe Alt
- 37:51Speaker 4: is you know, Joe Thomas, like one of those types
- 37:53Speaker 4: of guys. But next year, the kid from Georgia, I
- 37:57Speaker 4: want to say, is is a really good left tackle?
- 38:00Speaker 4: Like there's there's a couple of tackles like every year,
- 38:03Speaker 4: like every year.
- 38:03Speaker 3: If he was talking about next year, then that makes
- 38:05Speaker 3: more sense. He thinks next year's classes is going to
- 38:08Speaker 3: be comparable. So that yeah, that so that makes sense.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Wait till next year, he says, I get it.
- 38:12Speaker 2: The left tackles are Banks junior from Texas, Simmons from Ohio,
- 38:17Speaker 2: Connerley junior from Oregon, and Campbell.
- 38:19Speaker 3: From ls But he's talking about el okay, so that
- 38:23Speaker 3: makes that makes total sense. I missed that part of it.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I thought he was saying there's supposed to be four
- 38:29Speaker 3: league tackles this year in this draft, but every every.
- 38:33Speaker 4: But every draft, you can do that, like every like
- 38:35Speaker 4: this draft, you can go Joe all at Olofashanu. You
- 38:38Speaker 4: know you can just do it every year. Tackle is
- 38:40Speaker 4: one of those spots where there usually is two or
- 38:43Speaker 4: three really good first round tackles.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Hey, Patriots fans, if you want to see Toyota's best offers,
- 38:48Speaker 2: including those not seen on TV, go to buy at
- 38:50Speaker 2: toyota dot com. It's Toyota's official website for deals from
- 38:54Speaker 2: the official vehicle, the New Patriots, Toyota. Let's go get
- 38:57Speaker 2: a rain jacket and UH inside UH message support the
- 39:01Speaker 2: home team. That means us join the New England Patriots
- 39:06Speaker 2: or New England. Gillette Stadium's events staff here at Gillette Stadium.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Seasonal positions available in food and beverage, parking and security.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Come meet us in person at walk in Wednesday every
- 39:18Speaker 2: Wednesday in April from eight thirty am to six point
- 39:21Speaker 2: thirty Gillette Stadium, E one entrance. You may get an
- 39:24Speaker 2: on the spot offer to join the team. Wow, we
- 39:27Speaker 2: like you so much, Mike. We're not going to leave
- 39:29Speaker 2: the building until you sign you out.
- 39:31Speaker 5: I feel like that might be a good summer job
- 39:33Speaker 5: for like high school, like the boys when they get
- 39:34Speaker 5: in a little bit a little bit bigger, but you know,
- 39:36Speaker 5: like slinging food, walking around the stadium, taking in some events,
- 39:39Speaker 5: Like could be a good summer.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Job, right part did that? Yeah, Mike, my kids wouldn't
- 39:44Speaker 3: do that. No work, Martin's work.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Uh. Tyler in New York City says, I think the
- 39:51Speaker 2: Patriots are taking a wide receiver with number three. Overall,
- 39:54Speaker 2: everything else is a smoke screen. It's no coincidence that
- 39:57Speaker 2: the Browns offensive staff flocked to England after twenty twenty
- 40:01Speaker 2: two s lacking during the Zappening, a three hundred yard
- 40:04Speaker 2: two touchdown, no interception, three score victory for the third
- 40:08Speaker 2: spring of Bailey Zappi, Avp and company know they have
- 40:11Speaker 2: a diamond in the rock. Period needs to succeed. Is
- 40:15Speaker 2: a true number one in a franchise left tackle willb one.
- 40:20Speaker 5: I The point I would just make with this year,
- 40:22Speaker 5: The value of this year is that you are you
- 40:24Speaker 5: have a chance to get and I don't know, correct
- 40:27Speaker 5: me if I'm wrong. There's maybe like five potential really
- 40:30Speaker 5: good elite top of the like all neighbors. Harrison May Williams.
- 40:36Speaker 5: I don't know, another one maybe, but like I feel
- 40:39Speaker 5: like they got to get one of those guys, like
- 40:40Speaker 5: one of those five.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Somehow.
- 40:42Speaker 4: There's nine offensive players at the top of the draft
- 40:46Speaker 4: that are all studs. One of them is Brock Bowers,
- 40:48Speaker 4: which I just don't a good one. I don't know
- 40:50Speaker 4: if that necessarily makes sense for them to at tight end.
- 40:53Speaker 4: But you have the three quarterbacks Caleb Jaden Drake, may
- 40:57Speaker 4: have the three receivers Harrison Neighbors, and say you have
- 41:00Speaker 4: the two tackles, all fashion new, and then you have
- 41:04Speaker 4: brought Howers.
- 41:05Speaker 3: So there's there you go.
- 41:06Speaker 4: This board is one through nine on everybody's big board
- 41:11Speaker 4: is offense. They're the best defensive player in this draft
- 41:15Speaker 4: is Dallas Turner from Alabama, who is most people think
- 41:17Speaker 4: is the tenth or eleventh best prospect in the draft.
- 41:20Speaker 4: So if you could come away with one of those
- 41:23Speaker 4: nine guys, that's it. Now we can get into the
- 41:26Speaker 4: into the weeds of his brought powers makes sense. Is
- 41:29Speaker 4: the second tackle off the board makes sense after a
- 41:31Speaker 4: trade down. But those nine guys are all considered blue chip,
- 41:34Speaker 4: elite offensive prospects.
- 41:36Speaker 5: That's why you're you're the third overall pick, and I mean,
- 41:39Speaker 5: we know what it took for them to get that pick. Like,
- 41:41Speaker 5: it's not easy to end up at third overall, right,
- 41:43Speaker 5: Like you sometimes you just kind of luck.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Well, you know, because sometimes they were so bad and
- 41:50Speaker 3: they still didn't get you know, like like and they
- 41:53Speaker 3: still lucked into a couple of wins kind of.
- 41:54Speaker 5: So you know, it's just everything kind of has to
- 41:57Speaker 5: line up, especially if you're gonna end up, you know,
- 41:58Speaker 5: at the top overall pick, where it's it's not even
- 42:00Speaker 5: you suck. You have injuries probably too, so you know,
- 42:03Speaker 5: it's it's when you're at this spot, get one of
- 42:05Speaker 5: those guys. And if you get one of those guys
- 42:07Speaker 5: in that list, it's a good start. It's a good
- 42:09Speaker 5: start for rebuilding the offense. But I just I push
- 42:13Speaker 5: back on people who are like when they put a
- 42:15Speaker 5: number on the rebuild like like two years, it could
- 42:18Speaker 5: be for ever.
- 42:19Speaker 4: I mean, there's one it could be the Houston Texans
- 42:24Speaker 4: who are now probably contender next year.
- 42:27Speaker 3: That's the thing.
- 42:28Speaker 2: You know, again, we're so spoiled to have had Tom
- 42:31Speaker 2: Brady and did do what you know, remain at the
- 42:34Speaker 2: top of contender every year pretty much for twenty years.
- 42:38Speaker 2: There's thirty one other teams in the league trying to
- 42:40Speaker 2: get better every year, going for the same pool of
- 42:43Speaker 2: players that you are. It's hard. It's hard, right, and
- 42:46Speaker 2: they're not all idiots, all these other teams.
- 42:48Speaker 5: And by the time we're talking about the offense and
- 42:50Speaker 5: get like, then the defense is going to be a problem,
- 42:52Speaker 5: Like Judon's gone now, and you know, game you're always
- 42:55Speaker 5: it's always whack the mole. There's always a problem for
- 42:58Speaker 5: it to all line up, you know. But I think
- 43:00Speaker 5: we all agree, and I think generally the consensus agrees,
- 43:03Speaker 5: and it's kind of coagulating to coagulating around Drake may
- 43:07Speaker 5: I feel like he's that's the guy right now that
- 43:09Speaker 5: everybody feels like, if we can put that piece into place,
- 43:11Speaker 5: we'll have a chance against these good teams and.
- 43:14Speaker 3: The rest of it will figure out.
- 43:15Speaker 5: But that's the piece you need. Until you get that,
- 43:17Speaker 5: when you're just kind of spinning your wheels.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Bronson in Salt Lake City, Speaking of the AFC East,
- 43:23Speaker 2: the Dolphins lost some of their top defensive players like
- 43:25Speaker 2: Xavian Howard, Jerome Baker, Andrew Van Ginko, Christian Wilkins, plus
- 43:29Speaker 2: a bunch more just curious how you think that affects them.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Obviously he will still have an explosive offense. Just curious
- 43:35Speaker 2: your thoughts on the Dolphins roster at this point.
- 43:37Speaker 3: I'll do the additions. He didn't write that, right. I'm
- 43:42Speaker 3: not worried about Christian Wilkins is the only loss. Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 3: Jerome Baker is a good player. They replaced him.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Xavian Howard's old Zavion Howard hasn't been the same guy
- 43:51Speaker 4: last couple of years. But as much as I love
- 43:53Speaker 4: Mike McDaniel the offensive coordinator, I wonder about.
- 43:57Speaker 3: Mike McDaniel the head coach a little bit. Those teams
- 44:01Speaker 3: have I worry about late season. Yeah, it seems like
- 44:03Speaker 3: the offense is great for three months and then it
- 44:05Speaker 3: kind of goes a wall. Yeah, down the stretch when
- 44:08Speaker 3: maybe teams figure out what they're doing.
- 44:10Speaker 4: And a lot of coaches, offensive coaches in particular, that
- 44:13Speaker 4: that's true for Like, it's notoriously true for Cliff Kingsbury,
- 44:16Speaker 4: like whether it's college or the pros. His team's flame
- 44:18Speaker 4: out after Thanksgiving, Andy Reid for a while.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Another one.
- 44:22Speaker 4: That's just like in the lab all summer and then
- 44:24Speaker 4: you get through September and October and then everybody starts
- 44:27Speaker 4: to catch up to him. Obviously not anymore with Patrick.
- 44:30Speaker 3: Don't happen Andy Reid, But yeah, it did.
- 44:33Speaker 4: Used to happen, like you know, Philly, you know times
- 44:36Speaker 4: and stuff. So a lot of offensive guys.
- 44:38Speaker 2: That happens, Logan and Myrtle Beach. Do you guys think
- 44:42Speaker 2: you'd get a better package of talent by drafting a
- 44:45Speaker 2: wide receiver in the top of the draft and then
- 44:47Speaker 2: a tackle in the second round of this year's draft
- 44:49Speaker 2: or vice versa. I think they will end up taking
- 44:52Speaker 2: a quarterback at one of those picks now that they
- 44:54Speaker 2: traded Mac, but thought it was a possibility to try
- 44:57Speaker 2: to surround him before they ultimately traded him. His comments
- 45:01Speaker 2: on Jack's social were funny. Did anybody see that I did.
- 45:05Speaker 2: It's Mac and I wish he would have been more
- 45:08Speaker 2: out there when he was with us, instead of trying
- 45:10Speaker 2: to be serious all the time like most of New
- 45:12Speaker 2: England's players seem to be. Well, there's a reason for that.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Do you think now that Bill and Brady are both gone,
- 45:17Speaker 2: some players will be more themselves with the media.
- 45:20Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, Judom was kind of himself
- 45:22Speaker 3: even even with Bill.
- 45:24Speaker 2: There's very few players that had the gravitas to do that,
- 45:27Speaker 2: like Bronk was you know, so there was you know,
- 45:32Speaker 2: kind of a fear of you know, going over the line, uh,
- 45:36Speaker 2: you know, being too goofy. But but Mac revealed that
- 45:39Speaker 2: he likes to wrap.
- 45:40Speaker 5: Yeah, you know it's I mean, I I just, uh,
- 45:43Speaker 5: we've seen that side of him.
- 45:44Speaker 4: I don't know, I think that's we've seen that side
- 45:46Speaker 4: of him for sure. And look, when things were going bad,
- 45:49Speaker 4: he's not going to be on our TikTok right like
- 45:51Speaker 4: it's it's just it's just not we're about here. But
- 45:55Speaker 4: he's been on some of those videos before.
- 45:57Speaker 3: I I mean, I almost feel like him joking with
- 45:59Speaker 3: you about being the offensive coordinator was.
- 46:01Speaker 5: A little you know a little bit of that of him,
- 46:04Speaker 5: you know, being a little bit loose.
- 46:05Speaker 4: But yeah, that's when we had hope.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Uh Jeff in Canada. I don't care if we stick
- 46:11Speaker 2: and pick or trade and accumulate more picks. My main
- 46:13Speaker 2: concern is by the time the draft ends, the Patriots
- 46:17Speaker 2: must have at least one star player on offense. I'm
- 46:20Speaker 2: with Fred, I can't go another year of being easy
- 46:23Speaker 2: to defend.
- 46:24Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I think that's I think that's everything. I mean,
- 46:26Speaker 5: it starts with a quarterback. And you know we've said
- 46:28Speaker 5: many times I think Drake May is worth missing on.
- 46:31Speaker 5: But you know, there's still, like as I said earlier,
- 46:34Speaker 5: those early second round receivers, like there are guys out
- 46:36Speaker 5: there that will get you excited, you know, to bring
- 46:39Speaker 5: them in. And that's those are the two pieces. It's
- 46:42Speaker 5: just it's hard to spread the needle with all three
- 46:45Speaker 5: of the biggest needs. So again, I think they're gonna
- 46:46Speaker 5: have to, you know, figure it out. Maybe after the
- 46:48Speaker 5: draft they make some acquisitions. I just I mean, I
- 46:51Speaker 5: want to see wonder if if do you think there's
- 46:52Speaker 5: any chance Doug Or gets traded.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Maybe? I don't know, I mean if they, if they
- 46:59Speaker 2: if he comes back here, he's going to be under
- 47:01Speaker 2: the tag, which is like thirteen million or something like that.
- 47:05Speaker 2: You know, so I guess a team could trade and
- 47:07Speaker 2: then redo his contract, right you don't have to stick
- 47:10Speaker 2: with the tag if you trade him, right.
- 47:12Speaker 3: Right, they he hasn't signed it. Well, he could sign it,
- 47:14Speaker 3: but then you could sign an extension after July before.
- 47:17Speaker 4: That's a tricky trade, yeah, because like it's not like
- 47:20Speaker 4: he's franchise tagged. So I don't know. I think that
- 47:24Speaker 4: why would a team give up assets if they could
- 47:26Speaker 4: just sign him to an offer sheet, right and then
- 47:30Speaker 4: just take them for nothing.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Yeah, So I don't know.
- 47:34Speaker 5: He just seems like one of the few assets. And
- 47:35Speaker 5: I mean, I've seen some of the scuttle butt there.
- 47:38Speaker 2: I think I think the only player that they could
- 47:40Speaker 2: trade to get something decent for would be Jude On.
- 47:43Speaker 2: The team that's close. They need somebody on the edge
- 47:46Speaker 2: just you know, for a year or two. Yeah, and
- 47:48Speaker 2: they're willing to give up you know, maybe a second round.
- 47:51Speaker 4: I would trade dude On. I don't think they will
- 47:53Speaker 4: because of his gravitas and his energy that he brings
- 47:56Speaker 4: to the locker room I think is important. Like they
- 47:58Speaker 4: talk so much about their guys and you know, changing
- 48:02Speaker 4: the locker room culture, and I think he's part of that.
- 48:04Speaker 4: So they probably won't. But in terms of what you
- 48:06Speaker 4: could get back in a trade, if you could get
- 48:09Speaker 4: a Day two pick back for jude On, I would
- 48:11Speaker 4: definitely do that.
- 48:12Speaker 5: I wonder about Judon just because you know, we heard
- 48:14Speaker 5: rumblings that he doesn't really come to OTA stuff like
- 48:17Speaker 5: he did Mandatory. He's here, but I wonder if that stuff. Yeah,
- 48:21Speaker 5: but I wonder, I mean, he might have the country
- 48:22Speaker 5: m R. So I just I wonder if that's going
- 48:26Speaker 5: to change this year. And you know, it's Evan's point.
- 48:28Speaker 5: I mean I agree generally that he's you know that guy,
- 48:31Speaker 5: but also too, like if you're a new regime and
- 48:35Speaker 5: you know they're going to start up here, what next Monday.
- 48:37Speaker 5: I want Matthew Judon here. It's a new you know,
- 48:39Speaker 5: this is a new this is a whole new thing.
- 48:41Speaker 5: We need you here. And if he's not here that
- 48:44Speaker 5: that would start to signal to me. And I don't
- 48:45Speaker 5: even know how we'll really even know is going to
- 48:48Speaker 5: be here.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Yeah. I know you can't force players because it's voluntary,
- 48:50Speaker 2: but I wonder if like, you know, hey, matt yeah,
- 48:54Speaker 2: if you can make it, it would be really good.
- 48:57Speaker 4: So he did an interview with uh Kadlick already and
- 49:02Speaker 4: and told Mike that he's gonna be here.
- 49:03Speaker 2: O good.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, So that's that's that's good news.
- 49:06Speaker 5: I mean, I think that would point in the right direction.
- 49:08Speaker 5: I mean, we talk about what they can do with
- 49:09Speaker 5: the cap space they have. I think him Barmore, those
- 49:11Speaker 5: are those are probably the two biggest pieces.
- 49:13Speaker 4: That was another thing that came up. Sorry, Paul, that's fine.
- 49:16Speaker 4: The are any of you bothered by the fact that
- 49:19Speaker 4: they delayed the start? That's exactly what I know, because
- 49:23Speaker 4: like this is like becoming like a big subject that
- 49:25Speaker 4: I see on Paul shows.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Yeah and oh yeah, stuff like that.
- 49:29Speaker 4: And I'm just like really surprised about it's one week
- 49:31Speaker 4: in the spring without pads, Like I'm I'm losing I
- 49:35Speaker 4: don't understand.
- 49:35Speaker 2: But we're told us this is the We're told it's
- 49:38Speaker 2: really important. Every week is important, every practice is important,
- 49:41Speaker 2: every day is important. And yet they're giving up a
- 49:45Speaker 2: much like and I'm only saying the Devil's Advocate are.
- 49:49Speaker 3: Argument much like most things. I look at it a
- 49:51Speaker 3: little different, and I am not bothered by the fact
- 49:54Speaker 3: that they had a chance to get two extra weeks
- 49:55Speaker 3: and only took one. Like the on field part. And
- 50:00Speaker 3: I'm sort of extrapolating from what Jerrodd said when he
- 50:03Speaker 3: was asked about it. Why what do he say.
- 50:06Speaker 2: They want to make sure that they're on the same
- 50:08Speaker 2: page coach where they bring in the players.
- 50:10Speaker 3: I read that as they weren't ready. I do too
- 50:13Speaker 3: that that that's a concern for him. That was his
- 50:17Speaker 3: take on.
- 50:17Speaker 2: There, like that they're still you know, they're still working
- 50:20Speaker 2: things out.
- 50:22Speaker 3: I don't know if I'm surprised, but I'm disappointed. Again,
- 50:25Speaker 3: it's not because oh my god, no team's ever had
- 50:28Speaker 3: a new head coach and forfeited a week of OTAs
- 50:31Speaker 3: and no. But like, but what do we do it?
- 50:35Speaker 2: I have no problem with the head coach coming to
- 50:37Speaker 2: the Really I need an extra week. I mean, I'd
- 50:41Speaker 2: rather have him do that than like, you know, like
- 50:44Speaker 2: convince himself that he doesn't if he does.
- 50:47Speaker 3: You know, I think I'm talking about the fact that
- 50:50Speaker 3: he needs I'm taking him at face value. He needs
- 50:52Speaker 3: another week, and I agree, So I'm saying that's not good.
- 50:57Speaker 2: I'd rather, like I said, I'd rather have him admit
- 50:59Speaker 2: that at and take the week and be ready then,
- 51:03Speaker 2: you know, you know, try to convince yourself that you're
- 51:06Speaker 2: ready if you're not.
- 51:07Speaker 4: I read it to you because he it was, you know.
- 51:09Speaker 4: The quote continued and he mentioned about how they've been
- 51:12Speaker 4: focused so much on the draft and scouting and the
- 51:16Speaker 4: coaching staff has been at all these pro days. So
- 51:18Speaker 4: Girodmeo A VP McAdoo, T McCartney, these guys have all
- 51:25Speaker 4: been scouting, Drake May and Jayden Daniels for the last
- 51:28Speaker 4: month and a half, you know, probably since the Combine.
- 51:30Speaker 4: They were all at the Combine too, So I think
- 51:33Speaker 4: a lot of the focus of the organization right now
- 51:35Speaker 4: is what are we doing with the third overall pick,
- 51:38Speaker 4: and maybe some of this type of stuff that Paul
- 51:40Speaker 4: is referring to with the coaching side of it has
- 51:43Speaker 4: fallen behind because they are all on the scouting trail
- 51:46Speaker 4: right now.
- 51:47Speaker 3: Nine guys at pro days, and we're not ready to
- 51:51Speaker 3: start OTAs. As a result being collaborative.
- 51:53Speaker 5: I would just say it is it is a giant
- 51:55Speaker 5: new coaching staff and the amount of concerns coaching staff
- 51:58Speaker 5: dysfunction that I've seen over the last two seasons, if
- 52:01Speaker 5: they need a little extra time to work it out
- 52:03Speaker 5: and make sure that everybody's on the same page.
- 52:05Speaker 3: I'm I'm okay with that.
- 52:06Speaker 5: Like I I've seen enough of guys running between position
- 52:10Speaker 5: groups and teams and positions not knowing what they were doing.
- 52:12Speaker 3: So I don't know, it's a bunch of new guys,
- 52:14Speaker 3: I don't I don't really.
- 52:15Speaker 2: Put now after two weeks when everyone else is back,
- 52:18Speaker 2: if you're still not ready. Okay, a week up.
- 52:20Speaker 5: Sure, But I mean we've seen like what it's like
- 52:22Speaker 5: running in the bubble, you know, like that's like what
- 52:24Speaker 5: they one is like.
- 52:25Speaker 3: That's why it has nothing to do with anything that's
- 52:27Speaker 3: happening on the field. It's the classroom stuff. Like I'm
- 52:31Speaker 3: not My concern is that they're not they feel they're
- 52:34Speaker 3: not ready to do whatever it is they do with
- 52:36Speaker 3: this time of year. They feel like they're not ready
- 52:39Speaker 3: to do it. They're not ready to be in front
- 52:40Speaker 3: of the team yet as a coaching staff. According to Gerard, yeah,
- 52:44Speaker 3: I don't know. That's my concern, not that they're missing,
- 52:47Speaker 3: like the lack of running in the Yeah, bubble isn't
- 52:50Speaker 3: going to prevent you from going.
- 52:51Speaker 5: I hear what you're saying, but I just I think
- 52:53Speaker 5: this is a giant new head coaching staff, brand new
- 52:56Speaker 5: head coach.
- 52:57Speaker 3: They allow you, as a new head coach, the extra time,
- 53:00Speaker 3: so they'll take They'll still get extra time though. One.
- 53:02Speaker 2: But it's not that they're not here, you know, the coaches.
- 53:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just talking about their preparation.
- 53:08Speaker 2: But it's not like the coaches aren't here. They're they're here.
- 53:11Speaker 3: I understand that.
- 53:12Speaker 2: You know, I players don't have to come into it.
- 53:16Speaker 3: I would have felt better if you said, I don't
- 53:17Speaker 3: feel like we need that, And I just think that's added,
- 53:20Speaker 3: you know, wear and tear. We're just gonna wait. He
- 53:23Speaker 3: get killed for that too, he might, but it would
- 53:26Speaker 3: make me feel better to know that they were ready
- 53:29Speaker 3: to do it, they just chose not to. Bill Will's
- 53:32Speaker 3: done that many times.
- 53:33Speaker 4: What's more important though, them nailing the number three overall
- 53:36Speaker 4: pick or the having an extra week of So if
- 53:38Speaker 4: the if them nailing the pick was all these guys
- 53:42Speaker 4: scouting these quarterbacks instead of you know, maybe putting together
- 53:46Speaker 4: the playbook or whatever the heck it is that they do,
- 53:49Speaker 4: then it's I take the extra time.
- 53:52Speaker 5: I just think too, It's like, you know, this is
- 53:53Speaker 5: a first time head coach, so they're gonna be maybe mistakes,
- 53:56Speaker 5: They're gonna be growing pains. There's gonna be things that
- 53:58Speaker 5: he does right and wrong that you know, we we
- 54:00Speaker 5: need to have a little bit of understanding that you know,
- 54:02Speaker 5: this is a whole operation that he has to run.
- 54:04Speaker 2: Now it's the first time head head coach. And correct
- 54:08Speaker 2: me if I'm wrong. Has Elliott wolf ever had like
- 54:11Speaker 2: the control he has right now? No. So basically it's
- 54:14Speaker 2: the first time GM too.
- 54:16Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, you know, so the first time coaches that
- 54:18Speaker 3: are doing OTAs. Now that's okay though it's teach.
- 54:23Speaker 5: Their own I mean, you know, like I find you know,
- 54:26Speaker 5: I don't know this. I mean this feels to me
- 54:29Speaker 5: like you can be concerned about it if you want.
- 54:30Speaker 3: I understand why you why you're saying I'm not up
- 54:32Speaker 3: at night.
- 54:33Speaker 2: Well no, no, I.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Understand, just but it's odd that they didn't feel like
- 54:37Speaker 3: they were ready to be in front of the team yet.
- 54:38Speaker 3: I just think that was an odd way of putting
- 54:41Speaker 3: It didn't strike me what do they do with that? Odd? Like,
- 54:43Speaker 3: what have they been doing for the last six weeks
- 54:45Speaker 3: that they don't feel like they're the quarterback to have?
- 54:48Speaker 3: But again, again, why do we have all the coaches
- 54:51Speaker 3: doing that? Because I think that we had nineteen scouts
- 54:54Speaker 3: there too.
- 54:54Speaker 4: To be honest with you, I think that they that
- 54:57Speaker 4: a VP in mcadoo's opinion on these quarterbacks weighs heavier
- 55:01Speaker 4: than a lot of the scouts do, because they're the
- 55:03Speaker 4: ones that understand that. Like Mayo will fat out admit
- 55:06Speaker 4: he knows nothing about quarterbacks.
- 55:09Speaker 3: He'll say that fact doesn't bother me at all. The
- 55:15Speaker 3: the a VP and Ben McAdoo pot frightens the crap
- 55:18Speaker 3: out of me. I don't guys that might not be
- 55:20Speaker 3: here in three years are going to be the ones
- 55:22Speaker 3: deciding what's gonna happen.
- 55:23Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's still their reputation.
- 55:25Speaker 4: They actually have a great track record, especially Macado.
- 55:28Speaker 2: I know, but Paul, it's just going to be a
- 55:31Speaker 2: disaster then, I mean.
- 55:32Speaker 3: I understand what he's saying.
- 55:33Speaker 4: But Macadoo in particular, like his his quarterback track record
- 55:37Speaker 4: is phenomenal.
- 55:38Speaker 3: You know, like I'll pretend nothing bothers me. That'll make
- 55:41Speaker 3: you feel better.
- 55:42Speaker 2: I mean, like, you know, everything is wrong, it's a disaster.
- 55:45Speaker 3: I said nothing about disasters or debacles, so you just
- 55:49Speaker 3: put words in my mouth that I didn't say.
- 55:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but like nothing nothing like all.
- 55:53Speaker 3: The other first time coaches all were able to have
- 55:57Speaker 3: ot as when they were allowed to have them. In
- 55:59Speaker 3: some how that's deemed to be bad. Well, like it's
- 56:02Speaker 3: better that they recognized that they weren't ready to do that.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Like I said, this is Elliott Wolf's first go around
- 56:07Speaker 2: with this too. Is that the case with those first
- 56:10Speaker 2: time head coaches?
- 56:11Speaker 3: I don't know, Okay, So I don't know. I'll just
- 56:13Speaker 3: pretend it's great. Maybe it is Elliott Wolf have to
- 56:15Speaker 3: do with o TA. I don't know if it's great
- 56:17Speaker 3: or bad. But I'm not willing to point at that
- 56:19Speaker 3: and say, see, see it's not gonna work. I didn't
- 56:22Speaker 3: say that. Now again, you can you can go all.
- 56:26Speaker 3: You can go all and pretend I said things that
- 56:28Speaker 3: I didn't say.
- 56:29Speaker 2: That's fine, he's filled his ours Jews, that's it.
- 56:31Speaker 3: We'll just pretend everything's great.
- 56:32Speaker 2: It's a sign of what's to come.
- 56:34Speaker 3: We'll pretend everything is the Lego movie. Well, everything is awesome.
- 56:38Speaker 3: It's great. I did like Morris's speech.
- 56:40Speaker 2: You know, you can also look at it. You know.
- 56:43Speaker 2: I like the idea of a coach admitting that.
- 56:46Speaker 3: I but I don't. I don't like the idea that
- 56:48Speaker 3: my coach is openly admitting he's not ready to be
- 56:51Speaker 3: in front of his team. Why do I have to
- 56:53Speaker 3: pretend that I like.
- 56:54Speaker 4: That he just needs to talk less, like he's just.
- 56:57Speaker 3: A little in that.
- 56:58Speaker 4: I don't think what we really and it's not just
- 57:01Speaker 4: the fact that they're different personalities, is just Bill had
- 57:04Speaker 4: been doing it for so long that he was so
- 57:06Speaker 4: polished at everything, and he hardly ever slipped up and
- 57:10Speaker 4: like said something it gave away something that he shouldn't
- 57:13Speaker 4: and he was so just rehearsed with all of this,
- 57:16Speaker 4: and Girodd's just not there yet, like give it given
- 57:20Speaker 4: a non answer, no question, I don't.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Know if it's a good thing or not. Like, but
- 57:24Speaker 2: I'm not, like, you know, I'm open to like what's
- 57:27Speaker 2: going on. I'm not immediately saying that's bad, that's a
- 57:30Speaker 2: bad thing.
- 57:31Speaker 3: No, I mean, I don't think that's what I say. No,
- 57:33Speaker 3: I think Paul I said it was a disaster. You
- 57:36Speaker 3: weren't listening. You weren't listening. No, I mean to listen
- 57:39Speaker 3: to No, that's that's that's why it's good.
- 57:40Speaker 5: I mean, I think that's why we have, you know,
- 57:42Speaker 5: good debate, and that's why Paul's radar goes up on
- 57:45Speaker 5: those little things. And you know, I think I think
- 57:47Speaker 5: to like to Evan's point that you know, we're so
- 57:49Speaker 5: used to Bill being so buttoned up that like you
- 57:51Speaker 5: had to really dive deep to try to get like
- 57:53Speaker 5: these kind of things, whereas Girod's kind of handed to
- 57:56Speaker 5: you on a silver platter. And now it's with art,
- 57:58Speaker 5: especially with the media. Die damic that exists in this
- 58:01Speaker 5: town where it's like, dude, you know you burn cash
- 58:03Speaker 5: like they're going that is going to blow up and
- 58:05Speaker 5: that's going to be held against you and everything that's
- 58:08Speaker 5: been said over the last two months.
- 58:10Speaker 2: And we don't know the facts. We don't know the facts.
- 58:13Speaker 2: We only know what Gerada said. But like we know
- 58:16Speaker 2: that there's a lot of construction going on down there.
- 58:19Speaker 2: You know, maybe that's not ready yet.
- 58:21Speaker 3: I can say that. You know, if you if if
- 58:25Speaker 3: all the crafts have the construction going on, they can't
- 58:27Speaker 3: even start on time. If current one, if everything ready,
- 58:35Speaker 3: really really you'd rather you'd rather your coach tell you
- 58:38Speaker 3: he's not ready. Then we're making some changes and they're
- 58:42Speaker 3: not quite set to go yet. Sure, well that just
- 58:44Speaker 3: sounds like trivial, you know, right, one's trivial and one's football.
- 58:48Speaker 3: But still I'm much more concerned as a fan about
- 58:51Speaker 3: trivial I mean football.
- 58:52Speaker 5: But I don't see that much difference between the two.
- 58:54Speaker 5: It's it's all just like getting everything changed over and
- 58:58Speaker 5: play a.
- 58:58Speaker 3: Huge difference between the two with them. One of them
- 59:01Speaker 3: has nothing to do with your preparation.
- 59:03Speaker 5: No, but but again, preparation is getting everything in order
- 59:06Speaker 5: for what you want to do. So, by the way,
- 59:08Speaker 5: a lot of different ways, would you have them jump
- 59:10Speaker 5: right into it?
- 59:11Speaker 3: And we don't really know what we're doing, but we
- 59:12Speaker 3: got to start this day. Yes, you know, yes, what
- 59:15Speaker 3: I would even know that would help them get the
- 59:18Speaker 3: experience that they need. Yes, I think that would be
- 59:21Speaker 3: at and the other thing.
- 59:22Speaker 2: You know a lot of other teams that have that
- 59:24Speaker 2: first year head coach, you know, it might have been
- 59:28Speaker 2: four years before they had to make it.
- 59:31Speaker 3: We've had the same head coach.
- 59:33Speaker 2: For twenty three years, you know. I mean, that's a
- 59:37Speaker 2: that's a big seismic, that's a big shape.
- 59:40Speaker 3: I don't know what else I'll tell you. I'll pretend
- 59:41Speaker 3: that it didn't bother me. No, A good debate now
- 59:45Speaker 3: that we've that, we've come up with seventeen hypotheticals as
- 59:48Speaker 3: to why it's a good thing. I like the good
- 59:51Speaker 3: and instruction wise, like they wouldn't just go in the
- 59:53Speaker 3: bubble and do itever.
- 59:54Speaker 2: I'm not necessarily saying it's a good thing. I'm just
- 59:57Speaker 2: saying it's not necessarily a bad thing. That's all I'm saying.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Oh, it's really simple, but ared's the one that asked
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: the question. I think at the owner's meetings, what would
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: Bill have said, we're doing what we think is best
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: for the team, right, well, why is that best for
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: the team?
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: Bill? Because I said so?
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: Because I said so, boom done.
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: Now you don't open your can of worms to like
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: all these different things. But it wouldn't have been asked because,
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: I mean, I understand what you're saying hypothetically. Hypothetically, if
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: they decided Bill would never have not done it. It's
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: so funny bring that up.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: All the time.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: No, I'm talking about what individual days like he give them,
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: like the third day of mini camp or something like that,
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: because we're ready. And he got criticized for that because
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: we're ready. But he got but he did he not
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: get Quitts was we're not going to do it because
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: we're not read.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Did he not get criticized for doing that? Bill's being
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: easy on it. He's letting them off early.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: Yep, he did.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: You can't win.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: He did get. No, you can win. You can win
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: six super Bowls. And I'll sit there and say, yes,
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: that was what was the B six super Bowl? You
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. You go to you win football games,
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: and I'll say, yeah, he made the right choice. Like
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: I am not I was going to take a cheap shot.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: I Am not like some people who will never budge
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: off of their spot. If they go out and they're
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: completely ready to go, and they show like they're well
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: buttoned up team and the coaching looks great and they're
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: winning games, I'm going to sit there and say, Wow,
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: I spent five minutes worried about the fact that they
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: weren't ready to go when the season started. For nothing,
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: Because they showed that they were ready to go. I'm
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: not going to sit there and say, imagine if they
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: had actually fulfilled, they would have won it all if
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: they had just I'm not gonna do that. If they're
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: if they're well coached, they look organized, and everything is
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: buttoned up and ready to go, I'll say that that
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: was me worried about nothing.
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: Okay, I think Evan, you're that's what's best for the team.
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: I mean that was Bill's go to and all these situations.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: Why is it best for the team?
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: Bill, there's some logistical things that we still have to
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: work out, like that could mean it, that could mean
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: Red's construction thing, that could mean literally anything, and that
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: way there, you're not telling them Paul's thing of we're
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: not ready to go.
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: No, I know, And that's that's why Bill avoided Paul's
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: it like superpower, which is to find that little thing
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: and be like, wait a second, I caught that, you know, and.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Then you know, you know, I'd had the superpower with Bill,
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: but it was harder for you. But you're right, it
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: would be that's the answer that Bill would have given.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: But isn't that, like, how can I possibly criticize that right?
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: It's up to his discretion rights exactly. Now, maybe I
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: might say Bill didn't feel like it because he said
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: he wasn't really like, there's no But I'm sorry, I
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: know you have nine thousand different ulterior motives, he he,
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: I have the no you do like you're trying to
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: tell me it's construction related. I don't know. You don't
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: know what I'm telling you. If it was any of
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: these other reasons I'm trying to tell you, we all
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: don't know. But what I'm telling you is, if it
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: was any other reason other than what he said, he
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: wouldn't have said what he said because that paints him
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: in the worst possible light.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Well, what is not ready mean like you know, we're not.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: Ready to be in front of the team, means the
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: coaches aren't ready to teach.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: But why like what it like Evan said there might
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: be a legitimate reason for that. Not because they're all incompetent,
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: which is what you're thinking.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: What I'm saying is and admit that.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Admit that absolutely?
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: Okay? Is this like a heart like jeez, I'm really
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: I'm really veiled in my concern. My concern, Fred, again
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: is that.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: They're not Dady, is that they are incompetent.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: I didn't say that. You just did. No, I didn't.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: I said, admit it, I said, I will.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: I said my concern is they're not ready. Because they're
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: not ready why, I don't know. He didn't say why.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: Always went around his circles here.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: No, Fred, you just continue to try to put words
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: in my mouth and tell you I think this.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: Is you're putting your own words in your mouth.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: I'm not doing anything. All I'm telling you is there's
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: no human being that would say we're not having and
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: go ta is because of any other reason that has
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: nothing to do with coaching. And I'm going to say
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: it's coaching what do you mean?
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: It's coaching?
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: My coaches aren't ready to be in front of them.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: Okay, that's different than that's what he said. But but
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: I asked you why you said I don't know why.
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: It makes no sense to say anything if it was
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: anything other than it's on the coaches, right, it makes
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: not the it's on him or he said, I feel
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: like we were ready as a coaching stad that's what
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: he said. Okay, but like sorry, I don't believe that
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: it's anything else. That's the worst possible thing. But why
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: on him?
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: But why aren't they ready to have the players in
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: the building?
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: I think that they're not. I think they're I don't
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: know either, But it's coaching related. It's not some other
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: outside factor.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: What do you mean by that though? Coaching related? Like
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: they're not good coaches or.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: They don't have heard yet. That's what he said. They're
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: not on the same page. Yet they're not all on
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: the same page. He wants to make sure everybody's on
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: the same page.
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: I think that I think that they're not on the
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: same page in his mind because they've all been all
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: over the place on the scouting trail at these prote
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: So what he what he said at the at the
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: owner's meetings was that I want to give us some
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: time to get back in the building together and make
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: sure that we're all on the same page before we
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: bring the players.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: I don't see like that could be an explanation. I
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: don't see what you know. Like how that points to
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: these guys aren't good. They don't know what they're doing.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: To me, that's a sign of Hey, I'm going to
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: be pragmatic about this.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: Admit this said we're not ready.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: That's fine, But you're saying not ready means they're not good,
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: they don't have their.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: It worries me that they're not ready. I mean, I'm
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: sorry again that if that, I don't think it's great
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: that they're I know, but if if Evan is I'll
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: change next Tuesday, I'll be I'll be very excited because
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: they'll be ready for the startup.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: If Evan is accurate, like they've been out of the building,
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: them be on the scouting trail. If that's true, would
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: that be a good excuse to say, hey, we need
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: an AX.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: Would worry me? Why? Because I would worry why they
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: felt that was more important than getting the team prepared.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: This isn't about getting the team.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: They're coming in. It's voluntary workouts. They're coming in.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: You lift and run. I feel like I'm coming upaul
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: side of the street a little bit. I'll tell you
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: on Tuesday, I'll be excited. No, because evidently that's the control.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Let me let me can I jump in?
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: Because you kind of would hope that Alex van Pelt
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: in this offense, would know exactly what they wanted and
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: they were going to come in and there's a plan,
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: and they had the playbook already and that that's in
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: place and that you know, like so I don't know,
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: I'm kind of playing.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: I apologize for getting you, but you just those are
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: kind of some of the things. No, some of the
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: things that you know, you would be concerned about. That.
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: All right, we're gonna have the guys in, you know,
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: are we are? We got the playbook right, but they're
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: not going over plays. This is when you start to
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: get stuff. I think, my big you get the extra
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: two weeks because it's a new system.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: I don't even think they're allowed to interact right now
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: with the players, right yeah, yeah, they are talking in
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: the class like on the field, they know they can't
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: they can't do.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: It right yet, not yet. But this is when they
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: install the systems. That's why you get the extra two
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: weeks with a new staff.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Okay, well listen.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: It's all irrelevant. I get it. I'll be psyched on
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: Tuesdays they've all been on the road. No, actually, I'm
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: going to be pissed on Tuesday because they're wasting their
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: time talking to the players.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: If they've all been on.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: The the way you're supposed to do it.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: If they've all been on the road, then maybe they
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: haven't had a chance to do it the way you
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: know completely.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: And I would argue, why are they all on the
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: road instead of doing that that that's more important.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: That's my concern. I think that they're on the road.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: Now we have three concerns.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: I think no, because this has been my concern all
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: along with this, I'm not is that why you brought
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: it up in the you can tell the truth.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: My concern with it is that I don't think the
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: head coach knows the difference between this quarterback and that quarterback,
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: so he has to bring his offensive coaches wish him.
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: Ellie to tell him different. Patrick Stewart and Cameron Williams.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: It's different the cast of other it's a different thing.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: It's almost like it's a different brain though. Like they're
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: looking at traits. They're looking at how big is he?
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: How how far can he throw? What's his arm strength?
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: What's his mobility? What? What are the traits that he
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: brings to Pelton? Ben McAdoo have to be on site, yes,
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: to figure these I think they did because BeO doesn't know. No, no, no,
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: that's what I'm telling you. I think that the sculpture there,
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: they should know. If they don't know, they should all
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: be out of a job. They know.
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: I think that they know that this quarterback is good,
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: it has these traits and is good at X, Y
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: and Z based off the film. But I think a
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: VP and McAdoo know those details exactly.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: But you need to be on site to do that.
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: I obviously feel like you just watch the film, I
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: think And also.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: I mean that's a good question, but I think they
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: made the decision. We need to be there. We need to,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: you know, lay eyes on this guy, talk to this guy.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: We need to be talking together.
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: I'll give you, I'll give you no, I mean a
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: legitimate example. L this week you didn't need to talk
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: to Michael Panics. This week we get eyes.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: On everything interested and we do need to.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know Contra when they were. Whatever
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: they do, it's got to be right when they were
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: when they were. Not for me, I just told you
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: to help. If they're all buttoned up and ready to go,
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: I'll sit there and say I was worried about nothing.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: But that'll be great. Okay. I didn't tell you that
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: Bill Belichick doesn't prepare for seasons properly. You show me,
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: I hope not. You showed me when I said that
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: that was one of his. So you're saying that everything
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: I said has to be wrong.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: No, I'm saying everything that you think they've seen.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: Listen, I've I've only been really around one guy too, really,
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: but only one year for Carol. I've seen it done
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: a certain way. This is different. This is totally different.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: So forgive me for being a little skeptical of I
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: doesn't mean it won't work. I gotta say.
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: I I like the fact of having Macadoo a VP.
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: They're all right there, they're all seeing it in real
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: time together and communicating. And if there are these issues
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: of trying to put together what exactly we're looking for.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: I'd much rather have them all there seeing it in person.
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: This is such an important pick.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: And by the way, don't rule, you know, don't discount
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: the owner in all of this. The owner keeps saying
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: the same thing, and if if you say the same
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: thing over and over again, it's probably true collaboration, right.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: This is gonna be a collaborative choice. This this third
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: round pick. I mean, this, this number three pick. He's
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: not putting. He's not giving the final, you know thing
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: to Elliott. This isn't gonna be Elliott Wolf's pick. This
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: is gonna be This is gonna be this is he'll
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: have the final say. But this is going to be
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: an organizational decision. And in order to do that, I
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: think maybe the owner's saying, you all have to be
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: involved in this in this pick, meaning if it means
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: being all there at the pro day, you'll all have
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: to be there because everyone's opinion has to be inputed
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: for this, and you didn't bring in Ben McAdoo not
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: to have his opinion, especially with picking a quarterback.
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: I mean, I'll end this and let it go because
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: obviously I'm never gonna win, but I don't understand why
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: Ben mcadow can't have input without being there.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Maybe he wanted to be there. Maybe I don't know.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: I don't know. That's my point.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: I don't know, you know, Yeah, I don't know. I'm assuming.
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: I'm assuming that this show.
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: I'm assuming the teams get different camera angles of these
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: pro days, maybe from the schools themselves. But when you're
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: at the mercy of the angle that NFL Network is
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: giving you on a guy, it's very different than being
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: able to watch the guy in person. But I just
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: the one thing that Drake may said when we talked
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: to him after his pro day was that a VP
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: was quizzing him on the offense. And I think that's
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: why a VP was there is because Gerd Mayo is
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: not going to quiz him on a VP's playbook. It's
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: going to have to be a VP quizzing him on
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: the playbook. And when we did the draft thing, Patrick
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: Chung told a great story about an interaction that he
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: had with the was in Manti Austin fort I think
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: at the time that he mentioned at the Senior Bowl,
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: and he he said that Mante Austin fort On one
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: day drew like a play on a sheet and said
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: just just remember this.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: Then twenty four hours later, came up to Patrick CHUNGK
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: and say draw what I told you yesterday, like do
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: you remember it? And Patrick Chung said, yeah, you know
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: this this whatever, and he drew it up and then
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Manty Austinford just said thanks, walked away, didn't say anything else.
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: And so I think that a lot of these things,
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: it does come down to, you know, trying to see
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: their memory and teach them the playbook and then see
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: what they learned and what they absorbed. Or maybe they
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: give them plays at the pro day and then they
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: have them in for the private workout and they see
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: if they remember the plays from the pro day.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: You know, that time could be any of those things,
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: or none of those things, or something else we haven't
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: even thought of.
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: I just don't think they're throwing away a week because
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: you know they're incompetent. I think it was, you know,
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: a decision that we need another week together as coaches
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: before we bring in players.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: And well, yeah, I mean, we don't have to drag
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: it out anymore.
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: But I promised i'd let it go. But I never
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: say anyone was a competent for the fifteenth time.
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: No, it's it's there's there was a line before and
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: competent and it's just you know, you'd hope that not
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: everything is in line and get you're chugging towards this
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: and you're going to maximize your time. I mean, I
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: don't you know, it's it's I don't know, that is
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: what it is.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Okay, all right, Paul's foods here.
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: He's hungry.

- 1:15:08Speaker 3: What's up, everybody?
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: The Patriots Draft Countdown, presented by bud Light, dropped its
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: latest episode yesterday.
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: Let's listen. To a snippet from that episode.
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: And we're back, guys, just a little over three weeks
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: to go to the draft. We've rifled through a lot
- 1:15:20Speaker 5: of prospect videos, and we're here just to kick off
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: this show talking about some of the latest draft news.
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: I think we're kind of settling into silly season. Paul
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: feels like this is when people start to you know,
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: you hear things like what that doesn't make sense? They
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: love that guy, most notably with Tony Pauline's report yesterday
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: that Elliott Wolf enamored with JJ McCarthy, the hot new
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: name here on the on the mock draft circuit. So
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: what do you take away from that anything?
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: I don't take much in terms of what it means
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: directly to the Patriots. I think that Elliott Wolf and
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: the you know, the cast of thousands that he's evidently
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: been traveling with while you know, going on to watch
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: all these guys. I think McCarthy's an interesting prospect only
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: because of what I've been saying all along. I just
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: think he has the most unknown because I just haven't
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: seen him be able to do all the things that
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: all the other guys had to do for their teams
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: in college. So I think there's a skill set there.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: You know. I think he's got, you know, good enough size.
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: I think he runs tough. I think he's pretty athletic.
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: I think he's shown that he can move around and
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: make plays outside the pocket. But like I said, I
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: just haven't seen him be able to, you know, put
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: a team on his back and have to throw the
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: ball thirty five forty forty five times to ensure victory.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: I've seen all the other guys have to do that
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: from time to time.
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: Evan, I'm gonna tee up. And the last episode we
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: showed a film breakdown, you did a McCarthy. You know,
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: we talked so much about guys like Mac Jones and
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: Joe Burrow and these guys that come from LSU and
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: Alabama that have superstar casts around them, and maybe not
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: quite the case with JJ McCarthy.
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: Do you think he's getting downgraded before?
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: You know, think if he was playing on one of
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: those teams, Yeah, I'd be talking a little bit higher
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: about it.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: Well, that's what a lot of people that like JJ
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: McCarthy will tell you. I'll just say this along the
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: same lines as Paul. Last week, it was that the
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: commanders are Namor with JJ McCarthy. This week, it's now
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: the Patriots that are enamored with JJ McCarthy. So I
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: think that people are just trying to figure out where
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: to put JJ McCarthy. Like, obviously, he's a guy that's
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: going to go a little bit higher than maybe we
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: thought a couple months ago. He's going to probably go
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: in the top half of the first round. But is
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: it going to be as early as two or three
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: or are we more talking about in that mac Jones
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: can he Pickett range in the teens? I would just
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: say that proceed with caution this time of year. This
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: time last year, Will Levis was a top ten pick
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: in twenty twenty one, Mac Jones was a San Francisco
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: forty nine er at number three overall. Then we get
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: to the draft and they end up finding their level
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: and they end up going in a more comfortable range
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: for their skill set. I think that there's a lot
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: to like about JJ McCarthy in terms of the talent
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: and just the ball of clay that he is. You know,
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: he does have the ability, like Paul said, to move
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: get outside the pocket. He's elusive in the pocket. Put
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: down a fantastic three cone time. So he's got that
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: agility and that jitter bugness about him in the pocket,
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: and he's got a plus arm. I wouldn't say it's
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: an elite arm, but it's a better than average NFL
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: arm as well, So you have some things to work with.
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: But there's a lot of things I think in this
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: game that needs seasoning, a post snap decision making probably
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: being the biggest one, but also accuracy in terms of
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: ball placement down the field too. So I'm not a
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: JJ McCarthy guy. Everybody knows that, but I'm trying to
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: open my mind and not be as critical about it
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: because clearly there are people in the league that have
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: a lot of love for him.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: J McCarthy not at all.
- 1:18:31Speaker 8: I think it's smoke screen season and I think it's
- 1:18:33Speaker 8: a very risky pick to take him. I don't think
- 1:18:36Speaker 8: he's better than the other three guys. I think it's
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: risky to take him at three, and I think it's
- 1:18:39Speaker 8: gounda be pretty funny when it just goes Caleb Jaden
- 1:18:42Speaker 8: Drake and sing.
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: It is boring, but sometimes it's what has to happen.
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: But that's how that's how I want it to go.
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: And you know, I put out my latest mock draft,
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: So yeah, Drake May my guy, you know, I'd love
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: them to go with him. And we've got coming up
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: next here on Draft Countdown, we have a full film
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: segment where Evan breaks down Drake May as well, just
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: like he did with McCarthy.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: So, guys, let's just kind of hash out.
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: These two a little bit right now, because it's like
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: the more things change, the more they say the same Paul,
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: you said it a couple of shows ago, you know,
- 1:19:08Speaker 5: on Unfiltered, we've been talking about the same stuff. Ultimately,
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: does it just kind of still boil down to date
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: Daniels or May?
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: I think it does, And I think that particular thing,
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: I think boils down to your particular taste. And I
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: think that there's a lot to like about both guys.
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: And that's why I said some nice things about McCarthy too,
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: because Evan's right, just because we don't necessarily look at
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: McCarthy in that light doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: be talked about, you know like that. So I like
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: the idea of May because I just feel like there's
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: so much upside there. Now you can make an argument that,
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: you know, the opposite is not what you're looking for.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: If it doesn't work out, you don't really have much
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: to fall back on. I just feel like he had
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: to do a lot of things for that team last year,
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: and I want that. I want a guy who sort
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: of had to be the guy and how to have
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: it all on his shoulders. And you know, I don't
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: think it was great. But when you're talking about you know,
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: well he failed, Well, what was North Carolina last year,
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: like like eight and four or something like. It's not
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: like they went, you know, two and twelve. You know
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: when when it was all on his shoulders, he still
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: won some games, didn't win as many as a lot
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: of people thought he might. So you know, that's how
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: it works. I like may I think a lot of them,
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: But certainly I understand the upside with with Daniels too.
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: I know evn't got a chance to see him both
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: up close and personal. But yeah, we'll talk about the prodays.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: You were down there, Yeah, tour the South, So yeah, right,
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: it was a fun time.
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: I think the biggest thing with Jaden Daniels is that
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: you are really banking on his athleticism and his running
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: ability being his superpower, because what I saw from him
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: throwing the football was okay. I wasn't blown away, though.
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: I didn't look at him and say, Wow, this arm
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: talent is just fantastic. He's got a really big arm
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: and he can kind of just flick the wrists and
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: generate velocity and this that the other I kind of
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: felt like it was an NFL arm. We go out
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: to training camp and stuff like that, and we see
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: guys throw all the time, and I didn't look at
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: his arm talent and sit there and say this is
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: so much better than Mac Jones or this is so
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: much better than Bailey ZAPPI maybe a little bit more
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: control on the ball than those guys at times, but
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: not blown away. Whereas with Drake May he just has
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: a handcannon.
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: I mean, that guy.
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: Off platform, off one leg, rolling to his left, rolling
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: to his right. It doesn't make a difference. He can
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: just flick it sixty five yards in the air. And
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: I was standing right there when he dropped it in
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: to tes Walker on the sideline sixty five yards on
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: a dime too, and I was just like, man, this
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: is just that's different. That that's a different trait. And
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: if you were looking, if you still are of the
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: of the mind that you need to win with your
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: arm in this league, and eventually all of the running
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: and off platform stuff is all great, well and good,
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: But the person that's gonna sit in the pocket and
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: be able to pick a part of defense is guy
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: that's going to hold the trophy at the end of
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: the day. I just look at Drake May and think
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: that that is an easier path for him to get
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: to that point. With Daniels, I think you're really counting
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: on the whole package, the running ability, the arm and
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: it all coming together at this level for that ability
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: to go on a season like he had last year
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: at LSU.
- 1:22:19Speaker 8: First, I want to hear more about Tess Walker, but
- 1:22:21Speaker 8: I think Jaden Daniels I don't think we're ready for him.
- 1:22:25Speaker 8: I think I know Evan's mentioned this before, he had
- 1:22:28Speaker 8: Molik Neighbors, he had Brian Thomas, like I think he
- 1:22:30Speaker 8: needs a bit more structure, and I think, honestly, the
- 1:22:33Speaker 8: Commanders have a more set offense right now for him
- 1:22:35Speaker 8: than the Pats would. And Drake May, just as I said,
- 1:22:38Speaker 8: you can SI for a while. He has the trades.
- 1:22:40Speaker 8: He has an absolute cannon. So I think Mays the guy,
- 1:22:43Speaker 8: and I really hope he ends up here.
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: Yeah, when it comes to elevating the players around them,
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: I think that Jaden Daniels could distribute the ball to
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: good receivers no problem. But when it comes to actually
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: taking that an offense that maybe doesn't have great receivers
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: yet and elevating it to be on what it is,
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: I just I think Drake may brings more to the
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: table in that respect.
- 1:23:02Speaker 9: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, no
- 1:23:07Speaker 9: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:23:11Speaker 9: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx. Where
- 1:23:15Speaker 9: now it's next for residential delivery.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Only and now great moments in.
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: History. Our lads have mac Herron. They don't do the
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: proper research either.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: I like Pat Paul says, our lads, what is it called?
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: It's called our lads, not our lads.
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: I thought it was our lads.
- 1:23:37Speaker 5: Our hour.
- 1:23:38Speaker 8: You are our Oh you are?
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: Oh you are is once cill owned owned. No, it's
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: our No, it's not our hour.
- 1:23:49Speaker 8: It's like yours mine and our ours.
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: Mine and ours. Yes, this this is the kind of
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: nonsense we're gonna get.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: It's our lads.
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: How do you say? Aar correct.
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: How do you say aar are?
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: It's the same. It's it's not ours. Looking up in
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: the dictionary. It's not too syllable. Our is not too syllables.
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: R and R they're not the same thing, R pronounced R.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: It's not our.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: God, that's another great moment.
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: I don't have to give out the uh ace ticket
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: outline because the phones are down. Yeah, there you go,
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: but I will say, if you're doing a little spring cleaning,

- 1:25:02Speaker 5: Well, it was my seventeenth anniversary and you know they
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: have like the traditional things, and it was furniture like that,
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: like that's kind of usually it's like copper or a metal.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: It seems like very specific. So what are you guys
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: gonna do for twenty that's coming out I don't know.
- 1:25:16Speaker 3: I'll have to check.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: Get your wife a golden toilet I use, I'd use
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: it more than her. So well, maybe maybe they're not
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: ready downstairs because they're waiting for their furniture shipment. Maybe
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: it could be they don't have anywhere to sit supply chain,
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: so you know, change should be every time I hear
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: those those highlights though from the COVID shows, you can
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: tell like, oh my god, I'm doing those from Michel.
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: But you sound great though, were you here? Maybe you
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: were here or something. Probably can't keep away.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: Let's see web radio at Patriots dot com is the
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: email address, Matt writes in Given it's been a while
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: since we've been in the draft position to take a quarterback,
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: I'd love to hear Paul compare Drake May coming out
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: of college as a prospect to Drew Bledsoe when he
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: was coming out of college. What similarities and variances do
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: you guys see? Hopefully Paul doesn't get too emotional on
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: us by asking him to talk about his lover boy, and.
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: Well, I would say there's similar size in arm strength,
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: but Drake May is a far better athlete mobility wise, runner,
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: all that stuff and I thought Drew was more accurate
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: coming out of college than Drake May. That's good.
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: I think that in a lot of ways, Drake May
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: is kind of like the evolution of Drew Bledsoe and
- 1:26:30Speaker 4: Andrew could run.
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: Yeah, like that.
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: That's now an added element to these guys. You know,
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: he's very much the prototypical Drew Bledsoe type of quarterback.
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: But now all these guys can move.
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: But I would but I would say at the time
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: Drew Bledsoe was a higher prospect than Drake May is today.
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, well it was myer's right, but he's
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: a better no question. He was a better passer coming
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: out of school.
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: But he was you know, I think the whole myrat thing.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: I know, he got picked right afterwards, but like it was,
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: Drew Bledsoe was the consensus overall.
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, number one, right, No, I mean I remember now,
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: I mean some people like Myra, but Bill Walsh it
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: was insistent that Meyra was another Joe Montana. Yeah.
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: Think part of it was because a notre dame of
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: it all in Washington State.
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: Probably. I just take these guys like, you know, I
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: make fun of Felger all the time, but it's they're
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: wrong a lot. It's it's there's a lot of misevaluations.
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: But I think that Parcels thought Bledsoe was the guy.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: I think he thought he was bigger in Northeast and
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: would be able to play in the elements, which that
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: kind of sold me on him. As I remember watching
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: a game because you know, it was apparent it was
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: very similar to this year was a parent you were
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: going to be in position, and he threw for like
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: three hundred yards in the snow game, and I was like, Okay,
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: this guy can throw. You know, because I didn't know,
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: I wasn't watching Washington State games, I didn't know much
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: about him.
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that, you know, the part about being
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: to be able to throw in the elements is that's
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: That's another thing that I think Drake May has that
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: maybe a Jaden Daniels doesn't quite have. It's I don't
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: know if I would draft a quarterback simply because of that.
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: No, I wouldn't, but.
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: Especially after watching you know what we've watched the last
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: couple of years, and you can see when it's windy,
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: when it's stormy, like this is not gonna be a
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: day you're going to throw it forty times, you know, uh.
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: Not one of my concerns before. Yeah, oh with it
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: with the MAC.
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: From now on, with mccor, I'm trusting Paul's instincts on
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: these things.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: Myself, Mike and Charlotte says Paul, don't waste your time.
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: Fred has been in spin mode ever since the coaching
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: change was made. I guess your opinion doesn't matter anymore unless,
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: of course you agree with Fred.
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: So I'm going to be a bait, right, I'm going
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: to defend Fred a little bit because that was what
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: kind of surprised me so much and got me into
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: the argument. Was I don't think you've done that, certainly
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: as much over the last year, but even even since
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: Gerard got hired, I don't think you've been just like
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: it was the only choice and this is is a
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: no brainer. This here where we go. I don't think
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: you've been like that.
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: I'm not a little like that today, though I don't
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: know what it's like. I don't know if Jon Mayo
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: is going to be a good head coach. How the
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: hell would I know. I also don't know if he's
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: going to be a bad one.
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't I don't think that you've been over
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: the top spin mode. I don't. And I'm not saying
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: that because you know, no, we're trying to make up
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: after a fight.
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: I would just say first, speaking for myself, it's it's
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: just hard because you because you like Mayo personally, like
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: you just have gotten to talk to him, you know,
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: so I want him to us right right, But it's
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: it's you know, you you just generally I like the guy,
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: and so it's you know, you are kind of of
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: course with rooting for him to succeed, but you know,
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: knowing him a little bit personally and having talked to
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: him a few times over the last few years, it's,
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: you know, it is a little bit different where you know,
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: I kind of appreciated the detachment from you know, Bill,
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: like we never really I never, I mean I asked
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: him a couple of questions here and there, but we
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: never saw him, heard from him, didn't, you know. And
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: I felt, you know, I didn't feel bad when it
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: started to turn and it's like, oh my god, you
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: know this team has been bad now three.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: Years in a row, and guess what that's That's kind of.
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: Why I I think with Girard, but he's green, like
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: he's just he's new to it. And I think what
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: worries me with with it is just Bill had such
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: all encompassing knowledge of football where every single phase of
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: the game and element of the team, he not only
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: was a part of it, but he had a right
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: to be a part of it. Yeah, you know, And
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: I think what worries me with with Girard is that
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: the offense is really going to be in a VP
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: in mcadoo's hands, to the point where their input on
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: who they drafted three overall might be even more than
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: the head coach.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: I mean, like, you know, when when McDaniels had his
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: first go around in Denver, when Patricia went over to
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: the Lions, what were they criticized for trying to be Bill?
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: Trying to be Bill? And I think might be the
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: other way, trying to go so far the other way,
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: Like I'm not going to be like Bill, even though
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: that's who I learned under. I'm going to try to
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: be not Bill and try to be myself and then
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: so doing you know, like EVI said, sometimes just say
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: so much.
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: Right, But I would agree that they got criticized for
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: trying to be like Bill. But do you think they
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: would have continued to be criticized if they had won.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: I think that happened on day one with Patricia.
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: I just said that, Yeah, I literally just said, I
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: agree that they were criticized for trying to be Bill.
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: I said, do you think that would have continued if
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: they had?
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: Obviously, if you start winning, then everything you're doing.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: Is right right.
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: But I think the hard part for me is like
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: the players were turned off by it, and it didn't
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: feel from a place.
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: But I know what I would I would have, but
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: I would absolutely not want the coach to try to
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: be like Bill. I don't want that because you can't
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: fake that. You need to have one. Yeah, you don't
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: have the gravitas to do it.
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: That's the positive side of what I was saying was
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: just Okay, he's not an offensive expert, so he's letting
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: the offensive experts deal with the offense, and he's going
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: to deal with the defense, and you know, so on
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: and so forth. I just somebody the head coach to
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: me is like the CEO that comes in and make
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: sure that everything's buttoned up the way it needs to be,
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: and you just worry about whether or not he has
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: just the football cachet to be able to sit down
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: and say, well, offensively, why did we do that? Like
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: why why do were we running these set of plays?
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: Or why were we running the ball so much instead
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: of doing this or whatever? And I just I think
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: that it's he's kind of removing himself from that side
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: of the ball a little bit.
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: That's something I would hope for Mayo though, is that
- 1:32:30Speaker 5: he tries to learn that stuff because if he is
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: going to be a head coach here for a long time,
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: he needs to have a sense of the offense.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: He needs to have input on that, you know.
- 1:32:38Speaker 5: And that it's because, like you know, as we talked
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: about with offensive coordinators and stuff like, if it is successful,
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: like Alex van Pelt might get a chance to be
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: a head coach somewhere, you need Mayo, I think, to
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: start to have a little bit more input on those.
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: Kinds of things. So hopefully that's an area he can
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: he can grow.
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: Well, you know, let's look at Andy Reid. How much
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: input do you think he has on the defense or
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: does he give that to you know, spectacle.
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: That's a good question, right, And I think but Spagnola's
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: earned it, sure, you know, not that a VP is
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: a terrible higher not to like do that whole thing,
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: but Spagnola is one of the best defensive coordinators maybe
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: in the history of the league. I mean, this is
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: the guy that's taken multiple defenses and won Super Bowls
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: with multiple teams.
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: Can he have a boat with rings on it since
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: he's only been one Super Bowls as a coordinator or
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: is that Okay?
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: No, he's got to be silly.
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: Barton Poland writes in to the trade down, no matter
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: what crowd, is there a trade down?
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: No matter what.
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: I have heard the people, you can't get a quarterback
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: everything I've heard that, right, Isn't there a crowd that's
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: saying that Tom Cowen wants to trade down?
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: Yeah, he wants to trade down, but I don't think
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: he's like no matter.
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: But isn't there the crowd that says you can't take
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: a quarterback until you've built up around him.
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: Sure, yes, okay, so.
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: That's that would be a trade down or at least
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: take of Marvin Harrison or something. Right, So anyway, to
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: this crowd he says that you cannot take a quarterback.
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: Congrats you are the Bengals and Texans and you passed
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: up on Joe Burrow and c. J. Stroud. If you
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: love the quarterback, take them. So I don't know if
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: the Bengals and Texans were in the place that the
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: Patriots are when CJ. Stroud was sitting there or when
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: Joe Burrow was sitting.
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: There, the Bengals Bengals were worse. So then he's right
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: the Texans. How do you know that those guys are
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: Joe Burrow and c J. Stroud? If I knew that,
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: then it's not a decision, right.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: But but I think his point is, you know, if
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: the Bengals were that bad, they didn't let the fact
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: their roster. We keep them forgetting Joe Burrow.
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: The Bengals, I agree with that. The Texans had two
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: full off seasons of Casario before they drafted c. J.
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: Stroud. He had two full drafts.
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: And going into those picks though that last I mean,
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: we felt like his job was on the line with
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: how things were kind of going.
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: Yeah, So I just think that their situation when you
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: look at the Texans, I think everybody, look, they are
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: on your rebuild. Look how fastest came.
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: No gets pretty close, I really do.
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: I think they were really more like a two or
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: three year rebuilt like some of those drafts that they
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: had before this draft, like Nico Collins didn't come from
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: this draft that was that.
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: Was Nico Collins was a Jag until c. J. Stroud
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: got drafted.
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: No, I'm not saying that the quarterback didn't change the
- 1:35:17Speaker 4: equation for them. He obviously did. I'm just saying that
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: that roster was you know, they slowly built up that
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: roster over the course of a couple of years. I
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: mean Cazario took the job and didn't draft Strout until
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: his third draft. That's just a fact.
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I know we went over this on Tuesday his
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: first draft. He didn't know he wasn't for sure going
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: not have Watson, and he still drafted the guy in
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: the second round, which a lot of people want to
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: do with the Patriots like, So it's not like he
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: just said, you know, we're gonna wait and build the team.
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: That's just the way it worked out. I don't think
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: this was like a design Oh that might be the
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: design plan. That might be the case, but I'm still
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: had Watson when he had his first draft.
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: That you're you're probably right that it wasn't by design
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: that that was the plan. But that is how it
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: ended up working out.
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: And then they ended up making the move because Watson
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: forced their hand and you know, for some other hands
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: to Ah good, Mike good before I believe, but and
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: I should know better. Joke still stand? Sorry my bad?
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: Mike in South Carolina. I do not see what the
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: hype around Drake May is. He gives me mac Jones
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: two point zero vibes.
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: Really, I just don't know how you can watch that
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: guy throw the ball and I don't know how I
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: see that. My only question would be email back in
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: and tell me what do you think is similar between
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: the two players. I mean, I've heard a lot of that.
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: He's just looking at mat Jones.
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: I guess because they look at him the way he looks,
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: maybe like his face.
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: I don't do anything similar. One's big, one small, one runs.
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: One can't. One can throw it through a wall, One can't,
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: like get it through the wind.
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: Like.
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: I don't really know this. There's not really a single
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: single larity other than the fact that they both play
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: quarterback and they're white. I'll just say it.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: Tom in England, if Fred's policy of taking the quarterback
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: you believe in be damned as true, should the Patriots
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: consider trading up to two to ensure they take May
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: if he's their guy, and what would it cost to
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: make it happen?
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: Why are the commanders trading the pick?
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: Yeah, like I could see that the commanders taking like
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: a huge haul from someone if they're not, you know,
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: convinced on a quarterback. But if if they.
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: Want May, why.
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: Are they giving you the chance to take May? Right?
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: The commanders aren't trading the pick?
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: No, do you understand what I'm saying, If you want
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: to move up to two so you ensure that you
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: get May, why would Washington trade May if they want him?
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: But in this case they don't want him or necessarily
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: want them that bad. But the Patriots think somebody else does.
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: Or do they say, hey, Patriots, the.
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: Commanders are willing to trade with the Patriots, they'd be
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: willing to trade with somebody else too, And the Patriots
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: don't want to risk.
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: What I'm saying, they wouldn't, But I'm saying if they
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: wanted May, they would take them. They wouldn't trade them
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: to anybody.
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: Commanders wouldn't.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: Basically, what he's saying is like, if this is a
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: Jason Tatum situation where they actually want Jaden Daniels, so
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: they open up the auction for the number two pick
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: and they end up trading it to the Patriots and
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: still drafting Jaden Daniels.
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't think there's much chance of that
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: me neither.
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: But Adam Scheffer did say on one of his shows
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: that he's the winds are blowing towards them taking the commanders.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: Tell me, but isn't isn't there a scenario where the
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: Patriots get win that there's another giants trading beating down
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: the commander's door, right because they want Drake May and
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: they don't want the Patriots to pick them. And the
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: commanders are like, yeah, neither of these guys, and they're
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: willing to trade out like it.
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: I don't know, Well, they'd have to be neither of
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: these guys, because right, I mean, then it would be
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: they're not gonna.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: Get it, not gonna get either they trade out, right, But.
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: You know it's I mean for the commanders that they
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: really wanted.
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: I mean, it would just be kind of them fleecing
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: the Patriots and taking their pick and then still getting
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: their guys exactly the.
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: Jason Tatum like that's that that would be. The only
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: way is if they they do that, which I just
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: don't see why they would that. That would be as
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: anario like the commanders are taking a quarterback in two.
- 1:39:22Speaker 4: That that's I don't know why we keep going back
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: and forth on what the commanders are going to do.
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: It's just a matter of which quarterback they're picking.
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: Yeap. The only trade up would be if you wanted
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: to do whatever it took to get your pick of
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: the litter. Yeah, it's got to Chicago.
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: That would be to go to one, right, Tim writs
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: And Drake May is the odds on favorite to go
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: to the commanders. If you're Elliott Wolf, are you taking Daniels?
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: I still take Daniels. I do, but I don't feel
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: as good about it as I would.
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: I feel like we did this to each other, like
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: we we've talked ourselves out of this.
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: I know what I thought that.
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: Wait a minute, he's saying that Drake May is the
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: odds on favorite to go to the commanders? Is that true?
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: Do not adam the other way?
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: It's changed a lot over the last weeks, but I
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: think that most people today feel like Daniel's two.
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: You know, like if you go back to like two
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: weeks ago, coming out of the like directly out of
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: the owner's meetings, there was a huge thing that people
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: were saying that Adam Peters was a namor with JJ McCarthy.
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. And then the other day it
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: was the Patriots are now at amor or.
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: Whatever is that how you pronounce his name, Pauline. I
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: think so he's now says that Elliot Wolfe is a
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: namor with JJ McCarthy.
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: Everybody's somebody is trying, you get J McCarthy making this
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: I don't want.
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he's making a strong push for j strong push.
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: I believe that was the first telling you this is
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: all Jim Harbaugh. Jim Harbaugh is trying whoever the Chargers
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: want at five, that's not a quarterback he is doing.
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: He's put in this JJ McCarthy stuff out there to
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: get him to go top four.
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: So someone comes up and gets him, which somebody takes
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: four out of you know, the top four picks. Neighbors
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: they get.
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: And they get whoever Hirison do that right.
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: They got to take one of the receivers, whoever it
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: is that they're losing Allen and Williams. They need a.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: Receiver, zaying from New Jersey. I'm sorry, but if we
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: roll with Brissett, who's on a one year deal, in
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: a mid round quarterback, we really don't have hope. Uh
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: what are we doing?
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: But when hope?
- 1:41:30Speaker 7: For?
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: When? Right?
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: We'd be in QB purgatory for the foreseeable future. The
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: approach makes zero sense to me. I don't think the
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: idea of taking Brissette means were rolling with Brissette?
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: Well, just what do you think you know? And I'm
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: asking a retorical question, obviously to an emailer who can't
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: answer it, But like, what do you think that their
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: record would be if they wrote it with Brissette for
- 1:41:52Speaker 3: a whole year? So like, I don't understand why that.
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: My guess is that you don't think it would be
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: very good. Based on the tenor of your email, I agree,
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: But why does that put you in quarterback purgatory? No,
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: you'd be back because now I'm back with the top
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: ten pick, and you've got and sensibly I have a tackle, now,
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: I have a wide receiver now, and maybe I don't
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: need as many things and I can put more of
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: my resources devoted to finding a way to get the quarterback.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: I don't want to do that plan because I think
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: you're at the third pick now. I'm just trying to
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: give Devil's advocate. Just because Brisset plays and you take
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: a quarterback, say on Day two or three, doesn't mean
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: that you're never going to get a quarterback. You're not
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: in quarterback purgatory. You're in quarterback purgatory. If you take
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: him and he fails, you take somebody else and he fails,
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: like a lot of teams like the Jets, the Jets,
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: the Dolphins before too.
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: I would just say the one thing though, I would
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: say about like the trading down and then taking the
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: quarterback later, Like if you really do hit on those
- 1:42:51Speaker 4: two first round picks that you get from Minnesota, and
- 1:42:54Speaker 4: it's Pennis at thirty four, it's bo Nick's at thirty four,
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: then they don't have to do as much heavy lifting,
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: Like they don't have to put the whole offense on
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: their back because they're going to have a stud receiver
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: and they're going to have a franchise tackle, and they're
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: going to have these pieces around them to do the
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: whole net neutral brock Purty type of thing. Yeah, So
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: I don't just because the quarterback in that scenario wouldn't
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: be the quote unquote game changer. You're hoping that the
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: supporting cast is going to be the game changer. I'm
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: not saying I would do it. I'm just saying that
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: you're given the other side.
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: Yeah, al Ceciliano says, I can't believe you guys like domes.
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: The league is turning football into a pussy sport, and
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: so are you.
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: Let's not forget that you don't hit people because inside
- 1:43:38Speaker 3: I don't do.
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: By the way, let's not forget the snowball was the
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: start to something awesome, never to be duplicated.
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: I mean that doesn't just because it was the start
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: of something. No, the only reason why I the only
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: reason why I like domes is because, as somebody that
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: covers the games, it's much more enjoyable experience to be
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: inside than it is to be in three degrees.
- 1:43:59Speaker 5: And you can't even see the other end zone with
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: the snow.
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: That's it. That's all through. That's it's selfish, and I don't.
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: I don't love domes though, I that's not I don't
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: like when weather determines the op that's that's that's.
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: That's it for me when it's you look back at
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: the game and you're like, yeah, they won, but it
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: was in a rain storm or like you know Lamar
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: Jackson game and what twenty twenty, you know, like those
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: games it was like and the heavens just opened up
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: as the as the Ravens were driving.
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: That's against the Patriots. Sure, that game in Cincinnati that year,
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: that random game that when all of a sudden, Brady
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: gets it back for a last drive and it's like
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: the rain just it was like Noah's ark yep, yeah.
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: No, And that's just you just want a straight up
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: game that you feel like the better team won. It
- 1:44:42Speaker 5: wasn't affected because all of a sudden, at the perfect time,
- 1:44:45Speaker 5: the weather became a huge.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: Issue exactly, Johnny writes in Johnny wanted to say thank
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: you for the last two episodes. It was well needed.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: Okay, what do we do?
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: I don't know. If you are the Chargers and you
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: really want JJ, do you trade Herbert to the Vikings
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: for two picks? Now, as the Chargers, you would have
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: three first round picks. You get your quarterback and receiver. Now,
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: if you were the Vikings, would you do it?
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: Yes? If I were the Vikings, I would do it,
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: but I don't know why the Chargers would do Justin Herbert.
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: Honestly, though, when it comes to all this JJ McCarthy love,
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: I do kind of want to be like, do you
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: want Jim Harbaugh? If he's that great, take them, take them,
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: have them take them kill because he's so much better
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: than Justin Herbert, who's already amazing.
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: So I just think that would be an amazingly dumb risk, right,
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: And then I go down with that ship. I know
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: I have a guy that I can win with. I'm
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: going to trade him for a guy that I think
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: I can win in college.
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: Just because he's the KAI coached in college.
- 1:45:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: And then Herbert goes to some other team and continues
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: to light it up.
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: And I blame Jim Harbaugh for all of this.
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: Your theory is no, I only blame for one thing,
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: the JJ McCarthy. But but it's plausible. Your theory is
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: plausible that he's trying to bump him up so much
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: to try to make sure that all four of those
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: picks are used on quarterbacks.
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: That's what happens because these college coaches give input to
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: these teams, and now he's in. You know, he's leaking
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: this stuff to the media.
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: J J.
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: McCarthy killed his interviews. J J McCarthy his pro day,
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: best pro day I've ever seen, all these other things
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: like that, this is what we just keep doing with
- 1:46:19Speaker 4: this kid.
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: And all of a sudden, yes, he's had time to
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: do all of those smoke screens. Yet still start o
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: t as chess. I'm not. I gave the first right,
- 1:46:32Speaker 3: that's the fair warning. The fair warning. We don't have
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: to get back into it. But I'm going to just
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: toss there Horrorwitz, right Howitz?
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: I think so it's not to LESCo anymore. He got
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: he got first first time coach. How about that right
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: on time? No, I actually don't know who the GM is.
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: Something if you would put a gun to my heads
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: with the raiders horts, I think it's like Hoitz, you
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: got from Baltimore. Yeah, now I know who it is. Yeah,
- 1:47:03Speaker 3: it is the first time, first time GM for a bunch.
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: Of liars, and they're putting on a Hollywood movie about
- 1:47:09Speaker 4: JJ McCarthy over there.
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: It's unbelievable.
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: What do you think he goes really like realistically like
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: number pick I'm going to say twenty like I think
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: he's in mid round first mid first round.
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the question is to who McCarthy will
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: take them. I don't know. I'm where. If I'm the
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: he's going in the top ten.
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: If I'm the Vikings and like that's your let's say
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: that that's your guy, I would just I would roll
- 1:47:31Speaker 4: the dice that he's there at eleven. Yeah, I wouldn't.
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: I wouldn't trade all my the picks. I just got
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: to just move up to four when I didn't didn't
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: take them because you take didn't take them.
- 1:47:43Speaker 3: Doesn't it just make sense that they made that trade.
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: Everybody says they made that trade so they could move up. Well,
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: maybe they just want to. Maybe they just made that
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: trade so they didn't have to only take a quarterback, right,
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: they could take a quarterback and something else.
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why they required because they need a lot
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: of help on defense to the Vikings.
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see Will Wrights in. If we planned on
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: running a backup quarterback like Jacoby, and we traded Mac
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: as a backup, why pay Jacoby just to trade Mac
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: to be a backup for six rounder. If they did
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: not plan to draft a quarterback, I think they should
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: have kept him. I believe the writing is on the
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: wall and we are going quarterback at three overall. If not,
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: then why not give Jones a chance?
- 1:48:23Speaker 5: With young talents, It's Max not Apple Staples.
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: I think they had to get him out. I think
- 1:48:28Speaker 3: they definitely are going to take a quarterback. I think
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: the Brissette signing told us that. But I agree with Mike.
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: It's not like, oh, I'd rather have Brissett than Mac
- 1:48:38Speaker 3: Jones or I mean, I understand they wanted they needed
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: him to go out. I think he wanted out. I
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: think they thought that was best for him and them.
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: Will Wrights in.
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: I hear a lot of people saying draft Marvin Harrison
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: at three, but I don't see the point in that.
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: If you can trade that pick for Jay jettis what
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: is I don't know.
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: Justin Justin justin Jeffers Jets, Jets, is that what they
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: call him?
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: That's what he called three, pick.
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: Eleven and maybe pick twenty three. I get they would
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: have to pay Jefferson a lot, but I definitely think
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: that's the better option. Yet, with that being said, I
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: still think you take the quarterback you want if he's
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: there at three instead of trading down. Do you think
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: receiver second and fourth round and tackle third round would
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: be a good draft. I think we should trade future
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: picks to acquire another second round and get two second
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: round receivers and then a tackle in the third. But
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: we may have to give up too much. Just want
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: to I don't want to do all that.
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: I don't need to have everything done in this draft.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: No.
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: I think they have, you know, high picks in those rounds.
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: They need to make good picks. I don't think they
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: need to be sacrificing future picks to get additional picks.
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: I just think they need to do a good job
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: with this draft. I'm not telling you this is like
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: a make or break draft. I know a lot of
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: people have been very you know, sky is falling with
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: this draft. If they don't nail this, this is gonna
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: put Now there's there's pressure on these picks. They need
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: to find some good players, especially on offense.
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: Yeah, just stay the course, Stay the course.
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: I think the Marvin Harrison Junior people have quieted down
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: a little bit, just a little bit. I haven't I
- 1:50:19Speaker 4: haven't like as we get closer, I haven't heard like
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: that was really popular at the beginning of this whole thing. Yeah, now,
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: I you know, on all of our shows, I don't.
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: I feel like we don't hear it.
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: In my coach chamber. To me, what's surprising. But Marvin
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: Harrison is like two months ago, he was illy, he
- 1:50:33Speaker 2: was head and shoulders. There's no wide receiver close. He's generational.
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: And now the other two neighbors in Romadoozi are like
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: right there.
- 1:50:43Speaker 4: I agree, Yeah, yeah, I think you know, we've talked
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: about it, at least I have with Deuce. It's it's
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: a little bit like a would you rather DeVante Adams
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: or Tyreek Hill with Neighbors in him? Where it's just
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: kind of like what style of receiver would you prefer?
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: You know, Neighbors is the game breaker, He's the explosive
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: of you know, three level speed, whereas Marvin Harrison is
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: just this well rounded you know AJ Green and Davante Adams.
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: Julio Jones like, this is perfect prospect. So which one
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: would you rather game plan against? As a defensive coach?
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: Like?
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: Who scares you more? As a defensive coordinator? I think
- 1:51:17Speaker 4: a lot of people convince themselves at the speed and
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: the big playability of Neighbors is more you know, tantalizing
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: and well freight, it's scary for a defense to prepare for,
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: like Tyreek Hill versus Adams, Who's awesome, but you know,
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: are you really up at night thinking like, you know,
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: what are we going to do against Adams all week long?
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: Whereas with Hill it's it changes the entire complexion of
- 1:51:39Speaker 4: your game.
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: Plans, single play And I'm not going to tell you
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: that it'll never happen, you know, with the whole Minnesota thing.
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: But I've said, you know since the trade, and I
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: kind of keeping the same thing with Jefferson. I just
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: don't see why they would trade them, Like they're going
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: to try to get a quarter based of the franchise
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: right now, and wouldn't you want to do whatever you
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: could to keep that guy so you get a good
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: evaluation of your quarterback.
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: I don't think that they have any intentions really of
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: trading him. Yeah, I mean Ques said flat out like,
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: I don't know where this is coming from, but we're
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: not trading justin Jefferson. I know gms say that all
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: the time, But.
- 1:52:14Speaker 3: Like the Buffalo thing, you know, like Mike and I
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: keep going back to it because you were like one
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: of the first ones I heard talk about it. You
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: understand where that was headed. I don't really hear a
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: lot of that With Jefferson. His contract is up and
- 1:52:27Speaker 3: they're going to have to pay him a lot of
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: money to keep them. I think they probably want to
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: keep them. And how do you do that. You can
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: put a good quarterback on the field and show him
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: like it doesn't have to be Kirk Cousins. I get
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: this guy too when he's.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Going to get you the ball.
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: Jj McCarthy, Sam Darnold, you know whoever. Jim McCarthy. Literally,
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: just my point is if I'm Minnesota, I want to
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: do whatever I can to keep this guy because he
- 1:52:55Speaker 3: is a generational talent. Yeah, no doubt.
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: I mean I think the biggest thing with him is
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: the contract, obviously, and they just drafted Jordan Addison, who
- 1:53:02Speaker 4: had a really good rookie year. You look at the
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: receiver class, you look at the talent that keeps entering
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: the league with the wide receivers, and maybe you think
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: it's more cost effective to do it. But they don't
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: have you know, we talked about this as the Bills
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: and the Chiefs, they don't have the luxury of the
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: quarterback like gust teams, and.
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: Maybe he's bitching behind closed doors and we don't know.
- 1:53:19Speaker 3: Maybe he's told him, you know, your guys can keep me,
- 1:53:21Speaker 3: but I ain't resigning him no matter what. And then
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: you know he's forcing the hand. And if that happens,
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: that's why I say, I'm not going to be stunned
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: if I just don't see it right now. But if
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: those things are going on and we don't know about.
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: Them, James writes in He's in the UK, All this
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: talk of trading down this year to collect picks for
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: weapons has me thinking why not do that next year?
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: With what looks like a much stronger quarterback class in
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: this draft compared to twenty twenty five. Get your guy
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: at three. But, as Fred says, only if you love him,
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: you could then trade down next year with what will
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: likely be a top five pick and grab some talent
- 1:53:58Speaker 2: that way.
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: Couch.
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: Using this method in theory, you could have a quarterback
- 1:54:01Speaker 2: in place who looks good, which could then make New
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: England a more desirable destination for free agents, while adding
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: talent around him in the twenty twenty five draft.
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I don't know, It's just it's a lot.
- 1:54:12Speaker 5: I'm not really worried about making making this a more Uh,
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: it's a lot like taking a quarterback.
- 1:54:20Speaker 3: Like I don't think you can approach team building.
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: We're just trying to make this a more attractive place,
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: like just draft well and win games and that all that.
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: Stuff takes care of itself.
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: And you know, trying to get this point. If you
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: got the next Joe Burrow in place, that will make
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: it more. And that's justin Jefferson.
- 1:54:35Speaker 5: That's why I just again, I keep going back to
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: you're at three. Overall, if Drake May is there, he's
- 1:54:40Speaker 5: worth missing on. He's worth taking that chance on. He's
- 1:54:42Speaker 5: got all the skill that you you could ask, He's
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: got that high ceiling that you need to say. I
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: could imagine this guy someday taking on Josh Allen and
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: leading a team you know, consistently over him or you know,
- 1:54:54Speaker 5: any I'm not even to say homes yeah, because that's a.
- 1:54:56Speaker 3: Whole nother level.
- 1:54:57Speaker 5: But you know that's what you have to be able
- 1:54:59Speaker 5: to convince yoursel that this guy can take you past
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: those teams. And you know it's a hard even when
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: you get past them, to J. J. McCarthy and Michael Pennix,
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: to think.
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: Yeah, this is the guy.
- 1:55:07Speaker 5: You know, It's just I mean, maybe they are, and
- 1:55:09Speaker 5: but it'll be you know, one of those shot in
- 1:55:11Speaker 5: the moon, you know, shot in the dark kind of
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: things where he just randomly.
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: Kind of the're talented with with Drake May is so
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: immense that if he's there, so immense and at number three,
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: I just I don't know how you pass on it,
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: like I just and maybe maybe the flaws don't end
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: up being ironed out, that he doesn't get the footwork
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: down and his mechanics down, that it's perfect, but it's
- 1:55:34Speaker 4: such a a worthwhile swing because the ceiling is just
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: so high that if it if it does work out,
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: then you do have a Josh Allen, you do have
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: one of those guys.
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: Joe and Washington State first time emailer love the show.
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: Just want to get Fred on record how long he
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: will be grading the first time head coach and GM
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: on a curve? Is it for the duration of year one?
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: Two years? On record? We need to know when we
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: will be allowed to point out things that are shoes
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: without hearing the response, Well, he's a first time head
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: coach week four.
- 1:56:04Speaker 3: Before you're giving him a month. I love how he
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: has a number of the top week four. I was
- 1:56:11Speaker 3: gonna say and two.
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: And this, to a lesser extent, can be directed as Mike.
- 1:56:15Speaker 3: As well, Oh what happened to Uh, he's got the
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: sneaky negative that he's got the first out of nowhere.
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: I just I swayed him on that argument. I don't
- 1:56:26Speaker 3: know how I did.
- 1:56:28Speaker 7: No.
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: I think, you know, without kidding around, I think you know,
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: if you see like two three games into the season
- 1:56:35Speaker 2: and like they don't, you know you can. We made
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: fun of coaches who didn't know what they were doing
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: in a game.
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: Well, if he looks like Nathaniel Hackett.
- 1:56:43Speaker 2: Or I used to make fun of Chuck because he
- 1:56:49Speaker 2: I was thinking pretty good, I had the Bills on
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: my brain.
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: That was good, you know, like fake punt. Aside, Chuckgono
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: won some games with a very average team.
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: I don't care. He was a bad coach.
- 1:57:00Speaker 3: He was terrible.
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: Well, I think it was the same kind of question
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: that we were asking about Bill post Brady. How long
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: you know, how long before you can legitimately judge Bill?
- 1:57:07Speaker 3: And you know, I think we all give Bill.
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: I mean, Bill had a huge resume that bought him
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: some time. But I don't know how you can't give
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: Mail the first year with you know, you can't be
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: screaming from the mom tops.
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: But I'm just like his question, when would I start worrying.
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: Worrying, you know, like if I stopped grading him on
- 1:57:25Speaker 3: a curve? Yeah, it's what the question if?
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: It's if it's like you know, Keystone cops during games
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: and they're making you know, questionable decisions, and I'm worried.
- 1:57:33Speaker 5: Worried Now, that's that's I mean, I think it would
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: really have to be extreme by week four. But I
- 1:57:37Speaker 5: mean I think midway through the season you kind of
- 1:57:38Speaker 5: get a sense of what the team's identity is, and
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: you know what kind of job they did in the
- 1:57:43Speaker 5: draft and how these prospects are kind of coming along.
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: But I mean, I would just say, generally speaking, I
- 1:57:47Speaker 5: don't I think, you.
- 1:57:48Speaker 3: Know, if they take a you know, a guard in
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: the first round this year, I'm worried.
- 1:57:53Speaker 5: You know, right, I mean, if Drake May is there
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: and they trade down and end up with you know,
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: the third best tackle and then they take one of
- 1:58:00Speaker 5: their you know, they take key On Coleman, you know,
- 1:58:03Speaker 5: and Evan's like pulling his hair out, you know, just
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: the guys.
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: They take Joe Milton with the number three Joe Milton.
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: I just I can't do another draft like that. They
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: don't play a cornerback who's played ninety seven percent of.
- 1:58:14Speaker 5: The right right, I'm worried, right right, Like take the layups.
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: I mean, none of these things worried anybody at the
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: time when they actually happened.
- 1:58:21Speaker 5: Well, if you heard Evans reaction to cold Stream, he
- 1:58:23Speaker 5: wasn't here.
- 1:58:24Speaker 3: I would not have reacted if I was here like that.
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: I did.
- 1:58:29Speaker 5: No, No, I mean, I mean, yeah, yes, I had
- 1:58:30Speaker 5: him as a Day three guy, but I mean I
- 1:58:32Speaker 5: like the aggressiveness that he you know, he's a real
- 1:58:35Speaker 5: maler there.
- 1:58:36Speaker 3: He puts a defensive coach in his offensive corner.
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: I'm wearing.
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: Again, none of these things actually worried about at the time.
- 1:58:45Speaker 3: Now I learned he told Patricia was going to work.
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: I did. He's a human being, I did. I still
- 1:58:54Speaker 2: say that I will die on that hill. He deserves
- 1:58:58Speaker 2: our thanks. All right, that's gonna be for this edition
