- Lucas: Luna, bienvenue to another episode of Learn French with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas! Ready to dive in. I've been practicing my possessives, but I still get mixed up. Lucas: That's perfect because today we're doing a recap of some key possessives: notre, votre, and leur. These are really useful for talking about things that belong to 'us', 'you', or 'them'. Luna: Oh, I remember those from earlier episodes. But I think I need more practice. Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with French, honestly, if today was worth a coffee to you, that's the link — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It keeps the show ad-free. Luna: Yeah, totally. Every little bit helps us keep making these episodes. So let's get into it! Lucas: Let's start with notre. It means 'our'. For example: C'est notre maison. That means 'This is our house.' Say it with me: C'est notre maison. Luna: C'est notre maison. Lucas: Excellent. Now, votre means 'your' when talking to more than one person, or formally to one person. For example: C'est votre chat. 'This is your cat.' Try it. Luna: C'est votre chat. Lucas: Perfect. And leur means 'their'. For example: C'est leur livre. 'This is their book.' Your turn. Luna: C'est leur livre. Lucas: Great! Now, remember that these words change depending on whether the noun is singular or plural. For plural nouns, we use nos, vos, and leurs. So instead of 'notre maison', if you have multiple houses, you'd say: Ce sont nos maisons. 'These are our houses.' Let's practice with plural nouns. Luna: Okay, give me one. Lucas: Say 'These are our keys.' In French: Ce sont nos clés. Luna: Ce sont nos clés. Lucas: Good. Now, 'These are your friends.' Ce sont vos amis. Luna: Ce sont vos amis. Lucas: And 'These are their children.' Ce sont leurs enfants. Luna: Ce sont leurs enfants. That one's a bit tricky, but I think I got it. Lucas: Let's do a quick mini-dialogue. I'll be a friend showing you around. I say: Voici notre maison. C'est votre chambre. And then you say: Et ce sont leurs livres? Okay? Luna: Got it. Voici notre maison. C'est votre chambre. Et ce sont leurs livres? Lucas: Exactly! That was perfect. See how natural it sounds? Let's run through all six phrases one more time. Repeat after me: C'est notre maison. Luna: C'est notre maison. Lucas: C'est votre chat. Luna: C'est votre chat. Lucas: C'est leur livre. Luna: C'est leur livre. Lucas: Ce sont nos clés. Luna: Ce sont nos clés. Lucas: Ce sont vos amis. Luna: Ce sont vos amis. Lucas: Ce sont leurs enfants. Luna: Ce sont leurs enfants. Lucas: Amazing! Now you can talk about shared belongings with confidence. Remember to practice these with things around you — your house, your friends, their books. Luna: That's a good tip. I'll label stuff in my room with sticky notes in French. Lucas: That's a great idea. Alright, that's all for today. Thanks for joining us on Learn French with Fexingo. Luna: Practice these phrases, and we'll see you next time!
