- 0:04Speaker 1: It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 0:07Speaker 1: Texas Longhorns and Hall of Vane Broadcasting Craig Way.
- 0:18Speaker 2: All thanks again to Jean Watson joining us. Fuck some
- 0:23Speaker 2: winter meetings, baseball going on? All right, I want to
- 0:26Speaker 2: get back to some football and hero a little more
- 0:31Speaker 2: from Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkisian.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Uh.
- 0:34Speaker 3: First of all, some talk about.
- 0:40Speaker 2: How does he feel about the team from an energy
- 0:44Speaker 2: and health standpoint, because he's got a lot of guys
- 0:47Speaker 2: banged up and that's why they're taking a few days lost.
- 0:49Speaker 3: So how does sort feel about all that?
- 0:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think we'd all want to be
- 0:53Speaker 4: healthier than we are, right we're we're not one, you know,
- 0:57Speaker 4: and then that, but I don't know who is Indie.
- 1:00Speaker 4: You know, this is just the nature of the beast
- 1:04Speaker 4: right now. But I sure would like to get healthier
- 1:06Speaker 4: this week. I sure would like to get some guys
- 1:09Speaker 4: closer to one hundred percent than where they were over
- 1:12Speaker 4: the last few weeks. And I think mentally, you know
- 1:16Speaker 4: that you know, there was it was the emotional month,
- 1:18Speaker 4: you know, we had to we had to kind of
- 1:22Speaker 4: go back into Arkansas kind of the scene of the
- 1:24Speaker 4: crime from year one. I know that was a lot
- 1:26Speaker 4: on our players plates. We had Senior Day, which that's
- 1:29Speaker 4: always a lot on your veteran players on Senior Day.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Then we had going to A and M and going
- 1:35Speaker 4: back to Kyle Field after a thirteen year hiatus, and
- 1:37Speaker 4: all the emotions that went into that ball game when
- 1:40Speaker 4: that was like and then to turn around and go
- 1:42Speaker 4: back this week to play Georgia again in Atlanta for
- 1:46Speaker 4: an SEC championship game and go all the way into
- 1:48Speaker 4: overtime and all that that was.
- 1:50Speaker 5: And so we need to we need to recharge. We
- 1:53Speaker 5: need to you know, refresh our batteries.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Our guys need a few days and they need a
- 1:57Speaker 4: few days to get you know, get themselves back physically,
- 2:00Speaker 4: but also I think mentally and not that we're in
- 2:02Speaker 4: great spirits, and I think guys are all excited about
- 2:06Speaker 4: the opportunity that we have in front of us, but
- 2:09Speaker 4: they need a little bit of a break, you know,
- 2:11Speaker 4: because it's been one week after the next of high stress,
- 2:15Speaker 4: high level stuff that's going on, and so we need
- 2:18Speaker 4: to give them a chance to step away for a
- 2:20Speaker 4: minute and then so when they come back, they're really
- 2:22Speaker 4: wired in and focused with the right intent and the
- 2:25Speaker 4: right sense of urgency needed to go compete here next
- 2:29Speaker 4: Saturday against Clemson.
- 2:30Speaker 2: All right, I want to bring up a couple of
- 2:32Speaker 2: points on a couple of things here on the text line,
- 2:36Speaker 2: because I decided to listen to your show instead of
- 2:37Speaker 2: Fine Bomb.
- 2:38Speaker 3: But I'm sure I'm.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Missing some epic Bama meltdown. There's probably that. And then
- 2:45Speaker 2: somebody else had said Texas could beat Oregon if they
- 2:48Speaker 2: don't give it away like Georgia.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I would just say hold off in the car wash.
- 2:52Speaker 2: They have to win three two games to get to
- 2:56Speaker 2: Oregon in the semifinals, and he says they have the
- 2:58Speaker 2: better defense by far the worst kicker though. I want
- 3:03Speaker 2: to say this because over the last whatever forty eight
- 3:07Speaker 2: hours or so, the two guys who seem to have
- 3:10Speaker 2: gotten the most grief out of the Texas loss are
- 3:14Speaker 2: Burt Auburn and Quinn Eewers, and not in that order either,
- 3:17Speaker 2: by the way, but both of them, Quinn Ewers and
- 3:19Speaker 2: Burt Auburn. Burt missed two field goals. He made three
- 3:25Speaker 2: this season, he said sixty five percent of them. He
- 3:29Speaker 2: hasn't been as sharp as some of the others, but
- 3:31Speaker 2: he's also now the all time leading field goal kicker
- 3:34Speaker 2: at Texas. Now that can fall on the offense not
- 3:37Speaker 2: being able to get the job done to get it
- 3:38Speaker 2: in the end zone as well.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I get that.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I understand that, But I would say Burt's hit some
- 3:43Speaker 2: big field goals and he hit the one to tie
- 3:45Speaker 2: it that they had to have, and he hit the
- 3:47Speaker 2: one to give him the lead in overtime as well.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Of the two he missed, only one is in my opinion,
- 3:52Speaker 2: is one where he goes the forty two yarder, and
- 3:55Speaker 2: that came Remember after he banged home the thirty seven
- 3:58Speaker 2: yarder was waved off due to a false starch, which
- 4:02Speaker 2: nobody could seem to understand how that was called, but
- 4:05Speaker 2: it was called, and then trying again from forty two
- 4:08Speaker 2: he missed it. The other one he missed was a
- 4:10Speaker 2: fifty one yarder. You get beyond fifty, it's a bit
- 4:12Speaker 2: more iffy there. So I would say he's given the
- 4:15Speaker 2: Longhorns a lot more than he has not.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Given them when called on. That's something to think of.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And for those are grumblin about Quinn yours, Sark said
- 4:24Speaker 2: it himself. He had one of his best games. Yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 2: he had a tip pass interception he had another interception
- 4:30Speaker 2: as well, but he also made some fit throws that
- 4:33Speaker 2: were amazing and did some things. He played really well
- 4:37Speaker 2: coming through the injuries that he's had. So a lot
- 4:41Speaker 2: more than quarterback play that goes into a championship game,
- 4:44Speaker 2: win or lose.
- 4:44Speaker 3: But anyway, Sark says, how important.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Was it for him in his opinion, Quinn playing so
- 4:51Speaker 2: well for his confidence since he played so well.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Super gutsy performance from Quinn.
- 4:55Speaker 4: You know he's not one hundred percent, but he battled
- 4:59Speaker 4: and he competed, and like I said, there weren't a
- 5:02Speaker 4: whole lot of just clean pockets.
- 5:04Speaker 5: You know, they do a great job of making it
- 5:06Speaker 5: money for the quarterback.
- 5:07Speaker 4: I thought he did a much better job of stepping
- 5:09Speaker 4: up in the pocket, delivering throws under dress into tight windows,
- 5:15Speaker 4: getting outside the pocket, making plays that way.
- 5:18Speaker 5: So all in all, you know, I was, I was
- 5:21Speaker 5: pleased with that.
- 5:22Speaker 4: You know, I sure wish for him we could have
- 5:24Speaker 4: found a way to dial something up to get somebody
- 5:27Speaker 4: really open for him there when we when we got.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Down there late, just couldn't get that done.
- 5:32Speaker 4: So like I said, you know, I was, I was
- 5:34Speaker 4: really proud of him, and I know he feels good
- 5:36Speaker 4: about having the ability to move around a little bit,
- 5:39Speaker 4: and you know he hasn't been able to hear for
- 5:41Speaker 4: quite some time.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and remember the Long Words had a season high
- 5:44Speaker 2: in drops.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Keep that in mind as well.
- 5:49Speaker 2: How about hosting a playoff game as far as.
- 5:51Speaker 4: The to me, this is one of the bonuses of
- 5:57Speaker 4: playing in the first round, but yet having a home game,
- 5:59Speaker 4: so we get another opportunity at dk R. School's just
- 6:03Speaker 4: going to be wrapping up, looking forward to a great environment.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Like I said yesterday, I appreciate all of Longhorn Nation
- 6:09Speaker 4: and their support in Atlanta yesterday, but we're going to
- 6:12Speaker 4: need one hundred and five thousand strong a week from Saturday,
- 6:16Speaker 4: three o'clock against Clemson inaugural you know, college football playoff game.
- 6:21Speaker 5: And in round one.
- 6:22Speaker 4: And and that's the beauty of this new format that
- 6:24Speaker 4: you get a home game. And so looking forward to
- 6:27Speaker 4: seeing everybody there as we build towards it and appreciate
- 6:31Speaker 4: all that they do and supporting us.
- 6:32Speaker 2: So and finally he was asked if there's anything he
- 6:36Speaker 2: can lean on, having now had some.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Playoff experience in last year's playoff.
- 6:41Speaker 5: As far as the.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Kind of correlation, you know, I think that the difference is,
- 6:47Speaker 4: you know, last year there was so much time off.
- 6:51Speaker 4: It would be as if we had a buy in
- 6:54Speaker 4: this year's in this year's playoff, and so in some aspects, man,
- 6:59Speaker 4: you really want that buy because you want that extended time,
- 7:02Speaker 4: you want that rest. But in the same notion, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 4: I felt like that hurt us a little bit last
- 7:07Speaker 4: year where we we did have the layoff and we
- 7:11Speaker 4: weren't quite as sharp as we could have been there
- 7:13Speaker 4: against Washington. So I kind of like that that it's
- 7:17Speaker 4: almost like a bye week this week, and then we
- 7:19Speaker 4: get to go play next week, and then it kind
- 7:22Speaker 4: of goes under those saying that same cycle of days
- 7:26Speaker 4: leading up to the National Championship. So, but the good
- 7:30Speaker 4: thing is for us, I don't think the moment's going
- 7:32Speaker 4: to be too big for our guys. You know, we've
- 7:33Speaker 4: been in some really big games now over the last
- 7:35Speaker 4: two years, and I think our guys are comfortable in
- 7:38Speaker 4: that environment. And clearly you want to play your best football,
- 7:42Speaker 4: and I think we can and we need to play
- 7:44Speaker 4: better than we played yesterday.
- 7:46Speaker 5: But I don't think the moment will be too big
- 7:48Speaker 5: for us, which I think is a good thing.
- 7:50Speaker 3: All right. There, It is from Sark.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I'll tell you what we're going to hold on with
- 7:52Speaker 2: that other audio that we have from Dabosweeney and bring
- 7:55Speaker 2: it in tomorrow because there's some good stuff he has
- 7:57Speaker 2: to say about Andrew Bakuba and Kay klub Nick returning
- 8:01Speaker 2: to Austin and all that kind of stuff. So we'll
- 8:03Speaker 2: bring that to you tomorrow and we'll be back to
- 8:04Speaker 2: wrap up today's edition of the program on sports Radio
- 8:07Speaker 2: AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
