- 0:15Speaker 1: Attack on Titan is one of my all time favorite
- 0:19Speaker 1: anime and manga series. It's a masterpiece of a series
- 0:23Speaker 1: that somehow draws me in despite how dark it is.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And trust me, I rarely like overly dark series, but
- 0:30Speaker 1: then again, I love Evangelian. Perhaps I just have a
- 0:33Speaker 1: soft spot for Mecca anime or semi Mecca, I suppose,
- 0:37Speaker 1: given Attack on Titans more biological nature regardless, the titular
- 0:42Speaker 1: creatures were one of the biggest mysteries of the entire series,
- 0:46Speaker 1: and there are so many nuggets of information to know
- 0:49Speaker 1: about them. So today, in this little video, I would
- 0:52Speaker 1: like to go over the Titans with you, their origin,
- 0:55Speaker 1: their nature, and why they are the way that they are.
- 0:59Speaker 1: So sit right back and prepare for a history lesson
- 1:01Speaker 1: that even Hanji would blush at. Let's get to it.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Imagi. Before we begin, we publish

- 1:36Speaker 1: our social media help us reach our goal of passing
- 1:39Speaker 1: one hundred thousand followers and all of our accounts by
- 1:41Speaker 1: the end of the year History. The Titans were not
- 1:45Speaker 1: something that always existed, but the power of them was
- 1:48Speaker 1: always present. The creature known as the Source of all
- 1:52Speaker 1: living matter, who some believe to be a god and
- 1:54Speaker 1: others to be a devil, was a creature seemingly similar to,
- 1:58Speaker 1: if not the same, as, the hallucigenia, an extinct type
- 2:02Speaker 1: of worm that don't exist anymore, and if they do,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I'm going to be sure to have one surgically implanted
- 2:07Speaker 1: into my spine. Just pretend you didn't hear that bit.
- 2:10Speaker 1: This creature seems to have complete control over its form,
- 2:13Speaker 1: and given the differences in appearances that it has throughout
- 2:16Speaker 1: the series, it's very possible that it's not actually a
- 2:19Speaker 1: hallucingena at all. And merely took that form. It laid
- 2:22Speaker 1: dormant under a large tree that stood taller than the rest.
- 2:26Speaker 1: It seems this creature affects any living creature, as it
- 2:29Speaker 1: seems to modify even trees. This also would be a
- 2:33Speaker 1: reference to Iigdrasil, the tree in Norse mythology from which
- 2:36Speaker 1: everything in the universe is created. And yes, before you
- 2:40Speaker 1: say it, I know titans are a Greek mythological thing,
- 2:44Speaker 1: but the Japanese use the term kogen, which means giant,
- 2:47Speaker 1: so it's closer to the Norse giants than the Greek Titans.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The English translators just wanted to give it a more
- 2:54Speaker 1: kick ass name. In this mirrored and inverted world, War
- 2:58Speaker 1: still exists and the Marlians were enslaved by the slowly
- 3:01Speaker 1: rising Eldean Empire. Yimir. Technically a Marlian was one of
- 3:05Speaker 1: those who served King Fritz as a slave. When she
- 3:09Speaker 1: accidentally let out a pig that then perished, she was
- 3:12Speaker 1: punished by being freed I said that in air quotes
- 3:15Speaker 1: and used as the fox in a game of horseback hunting.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Struck multiple times by arrows, she ran through the forest,
- 3:23Speaker 1: happening upon a massive tree that she attempted to hide in. However,
- 3:26Speaker 1: unbeknownst to her, there was a hidden aquifer in the
- 3:29Speaker 1: base of the tree, which she fell into. Within that water,
- 3:32Speaker 1: she came into contact with this creature that felt how
- 3:35Speaker 1: truly desperate she was scared of being attacked. The general
- 3:39Speaker 1: law of nature that bigger means better came into play
- 3:42Speaker 1: and she was transformed into the first Titan, what would
- 3:46Speaker 1: later be known as the founding Titan. With her incredible power,
- 3:50Speaker 1: she escaped and survived. So now she was free, but
- 3:53Speaker 1: poor Emir didn't know what to do with it. She
- 3:56Speaker 1: had spent so much time serving others that she didn't
- 3:58Speaker 1: have a purpose, and she had a master to serve,
- 4:01Speaker 1: which drove her back to the king. In return for
- 4:04Speaker 1: serving him, he would accept her back as his slave.
- 4:07Speaker 1: In his name, she built roads, worked the land, and
- 4:10Speaker 1: fought wars. The power of the Titans became a treasured
- 4:13Speaker 1: resource of the elde and Empire, and due to how
- 4:16Speaker 1: well she served them, he decided to bestow a gift
- 4:19Speaker 1: upon her, a forced marriage, because nothing is better than
- 4:23Speaker 1: marrying the guy who tried to have you killed over
- 4:25Speaker 1: a pig and now wishes to marry you because he
- 4:27Speaker 1: wants his babies to replace you when you inevitably die,
- 4:30Speaker 1: but uh Mir has no problem with it. As it
- 4:32Speaker 1: turns out, I'm actually pretty sure that she loved King Fritz,
- 4:35Speaker 1: so it was like a dream come true, except with
- 4:38Speaker 1: all the killing. She bore him. Three daughters, Maria, Rose,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and Sina sound familiar, well it should. Eventually, poor Amir's
- 4:46Speaker 1: conscience gets the better of her, as does her slave mentality.
- 4:49Speaker 1: During an assassination attempt on King Fritz's life, she jumps
- 4:53Speaker 1: in the way and takes the spear. Now, of course,
- 4:55Speaker 1: Samir could have healed herself up just fine, as even
- 4:58Speaker 1: King Fritz says as she's bleeding out at his feet. However,
- 5:01Speaker 1: she refuses this, likely because her conscience is catching up
- 5:04Speaker 1: with her, and she dies out of fear that he
- 5:07Speaker 1: might lose the power of the Titans. King Fritz, well,
- 5:11Speaker 1: let's just say that maybe he fed his daughters some
- 5:13Speaker 1: special tacos made out of long pork. Because of this,
- 5:17Speaker 1: the daughters, who are likely forever warped from cannibalism, gained
- 5:21Speaker 1: the power of the Titans. It's from this action that
- 5:24Speaker 1: the founding Titan gives birth to the other eight, and
- 5:27Speaker 1: from here the Titans were passed down from generation to generation.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But just because you are a descendant of Amir that
- 5:33Speaker 1: never had one of the Nine Titans doesn't mean that
- 5:36Speaker 1: you can't turn into a Titan anyway. Nineteen hundred years
- 5:39Speaker 1: after the Founding Titan was created, the ld And Empire
- 5:42Speaker 1: had all but bred the power of the Titans through them,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and had forced the nations they conquered to give birth
- 5:48Speaker 1: to more subjects of Amr, which in turn allowed the
- 5:51Speaker 1: king to use the Founding Titan to start miniature rumblings
- 5:55Speaker 1: that he would use to destroy his enemies and expand
- 5:57Speaker 1: his empire to the farthest corners of the earth. However,
- 6:01Speaker 1: circa year seven forty three, the Founding Titan fell into
- 6:04Speaker 1: the hands of the benevolent Carl Fritz, who had come
- 6:07Speaker 1: to witness the atrocities of his people and decided to
- 6:10Speaker 1: fake a civil war within the Eldean Empire, which would
- 6:13Speaker 1: lead to his own exile from the Marlian continent, where
- 6:16Speaker 1: he would set up his own kingdom on the island
- 6:19Speaker 1: of Paradise. He would bring with him as many Eldians
- 6:22Speaker 1: as possible and leave the Tiber clan in marl to
- 6:25Speaker 1: help restore autonomy in the nation and rebuild Carl Fritz
- 6:28Speaker 1: would then use the Founding Titan to turn countless numbers
- 6:31Speaker 1: of his people into colossal Titans similar to one of
- 6:34Speaker 1: the Nine, and would cause them to harden and become
- 6:37Speaker 1: the walls around his kingdom. He would set smaller Tutans
- 6:40Speaker 1: outside the wall as guards to protect their kingdom from
- 6:43Speaker 1: the outside. Carl declared that should his people ever be
- 6:47Speaker 1: attacked on the island of Paradise, he would release the
- 6:49Speaker 1: Titans in the walls and would cause a rumbling that
- 6:52Speaker 1: would destroy the entire world. This, however, was an empty promise,
- 6:56Speaker 1: as the king renounced war and instead set a limit
- 6:59Speaker 1: upon the Founding Titan that it could no longer be
- 7:02Speaker 1: used for war, resulting in the inability to command Titans
- 7:05Speaker 1: any further. The Founder continued to be passed down from
- 7:08Speaker 1: generation to generation until it was stolen from free to
- 7:11Speaker 1: Reese by Grisha Yeager and eventually given to his son
- 7:15Speaker 1: Aaron Yeager, who proceeds to do ungodly things with it.
- 7:18Speaker 1: The Titans. The Titans have many quirks about them that
- 7:21Speaker 1: make them quite monstrous. But why do this for a
- 7:25Speaker 1: creature designed to give you whatever you desire in this world,
- 7:27Speaker 1: Why do the Titans created from the Founder turn into
- 7:31Speaker 1: mindless monsters? Well plenty, if not all of the Titans
- 7:34Speaker 1: we see are actually pre programmed, even if accidentally. The
- 7:38Speaker 1: first thing to realize about this is that Emir Fritz
- 7:41Speaker 1: is a slave. This means that both the Founding Titan,
- 7:44Speaker 1: the Nine Titans, and any Titans themselves, including the subjects
- 7:48Speaker 1: of Emir, are faded to be slaves for their entire lives.
- 7:51Speaker 1: When Emir gained the Founding Titan, she was free to
- 7:54Speaker 1: do whatever she wanted with it. She was truly free,
- 7:57Speaker 1: but lacking a purpose, she returned to Elda and proceeded
- 8:01Speaker 1: to indenture herself once more, sentencing herself as well as
- 8:05Speaker 1: her children to a life of slavery. Despite marrying the
- 8:08Speaker 1: king and being counted as a queen, she remained a
- 8:11Speaker 1: slave for at least a slave in her mentality. Anything
- 8:14Speaker 1: asked of her was done quickly and precisely, and she's
- 8:18Speaker 1: still like this as well, as proven when she met
- 8:20Speaker 1: with Zeke in the Paths. While there, Zeke spoke with
- 8:24Speaker 1: the Founder and actually managed to rescind all restrictions that
- 8:27Speaker 1: Carl Fritz had put on the Founder through his vow
- 8:30Speaker 1: renouncing war. Yeah, Zeke undid that the moment he and
- 8:34Speaker 1: Aaron touched for the first time. Zeke technically could have
- 8:37Speaker 1: just eaten Erin and used the Founder all on his own.
- 8:40Speaker 1: But Zeke is a pure boy, ah puerish boy, all right.
- 8:44Speaker 1: He kills people, but not Aaron. He loves little brother.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But anyway, when Amir died, two things happened, the beginning
- 8:51Speaker 1: of the rules that were written to determine how Titans
- 8:53Speaker 1: would act after obtaining the power of the Titans. Emir
- 8:56Speaker 1: Fritz lasted thirteen years as a slave until she eventually
- 9:00Speaker 1: cited enough was enough and let herself die. This is
- 9:03Speaker 1: what came to be known as the Curse of Amir,
- 9:05Speaker 1: in which a holder of one of the nine Titans
- 9:07Speaker 1: can only live for thirteen years before perishing. After Amir's passing, though,
- 9:12Speaker 1: King Fritz wished that the power of the Titans be
- 9:14Speaker 1: passed down to his children, so he forced his daughters
- 9:17Speaker 1: to eat their mother. This caused the Founder to recognize
- 9:20Speaker 1: Emir's daughters as the next holders of the power of
- 9:23Speaker 1: the Titans. Their decision to eat their mother is what
- 9:26Speaker 1: caused the Founder to register the method of transference to
- 9:29Speaker 1: pass the power on one must eat the previous holder.
- 9:32Speaker 1: We know that it was this act that did so,
- 9:35Speaker 1: as we witness a mir into Paths after her body
- 9:38Speaker 1: is devoured by her daughters. Three branches on the illuminescent
- 9:41Speaker 1: tree in the center of the dimension are spawned. Normally,
- 9:44Speaker 1: a new subject of Amir is born and is automatically
- 9:47Speaker 1: a branch in the tree, but this tree only grew
- 9:50Speaker 1: a new branch when the Founder was devoured, which set
- 9:53Speaker 1: two rules at once, the first rule being the Founder
- 9:56Speaker 1: and all other Titan powers can only be claimed if devoured.
- 10:00Speaker 1: The second rule was that King Fritz wanted the powers
- 10:02Speaker 1: to remain even after the death of Emir, and so
- 10:05Speaker 1: any child born with EMUs genetics could automatically be a
- 10:08Speaker 1: part of the Paths, and should one of the Titans
- 10:10Speaker 1: die without being devoured, the Titan itself would automatically transfer
- 10:14Speaker 1: to a random ld and to keep the powers alive.
- 10:16Speaker 1: This simple brutal act is what gave the command for
- 10:19Speaker 1: the most adaptable creature in the world to only transfer
- 10:22Speaker 1: itself in one of two ways. Due to this, any
- 10:25Speaker 1: person could turn into a Titan so long as they
- 10:27Speaker 1: ingested the proper fluids. That is what created the pure Titans.
- 10:32Speaker 1: While not as powerful as the Founder or as noble
- 10:35Speaker 1: as the Nine, they still possess that power. However, given
- 10:39Speaker 1: the pre established rules that what is most important to
- 10:42Speaker 1: the King is the Titan and not the person, the
- 10:44Speaker 1: person within the pure Titan finds themselves unable to escape
- 10:47Speaker 1: their Titan and must forever live within going mad. Now,
- 10:51Speaker 1: the second question you may ask is why can Titans
- 10:54Speaker 1: only be killed by slicing their nape. The answer to
- 10:57Speaker 1: that has to do with the spine. The spine is
- 10:59Speaker 1: home to the central nervous system. The reason why, however,
- 11:03Speaker 1: has to do with where a Titan shifter goes when
- 11:06Speaker 1: they transform. When a person transforms into a Titan, be
- 11:09Speaker 1: it a pure Titan or one of the Nine, their
- 11:11Speaker 1: body goes into the nape. Because when Emir became the
- 11:14Speaker 1: founding Titan, the glowing worm attached to her spine. It's
- 11:18Speaker 1: because of this that the Titan shifters go where the
- 11:20Speaker 1: spine of the Titan is. By slicing the nape, you
- 11:23Speaker 1: not only sever these shifter's connection to their Titan, but
- 11:26Speaker 1: also kill the shifter too. However, it's unexplained how this
- 11:30Speaker 1: is done, but according to and displayed by Rhiner Braun.
- 11:34Speaker 1: A shifter whose nape is about to receive critical damage
- 11:37Speaker 1: can survive destruction if they pull their consciousness from their
- 11:40Speaker 1: own brain and place it in the brain of their titan.
- 11:43Speaker 1: In that way, a Titan shifter may survive, though their
- 11:46Speaker 1: body will be crippled. However, if they have not exerted
- 11:49Speaker 1: themselves too much, they may regenerate their body. How this
- 11:52Speaker 1: happens is unclear, as Reiner never explained where the ability
- 11:55Speaker 1: came from. I theorize that it may have something to
- 11:58Speaker 1: do with the nines connect to each other the paths,
- 12:01Speaker 1: as well as the Warhammer Titan, whose second ability is
- 12:05Speaker 1: that its shifter can be anywhere within or without the body,
- 12:08Speaker 1: so long as it is attached. The next question you
- 12:11Speaker 1: may have is why do titans smile? Well, the obvious
- 12:14Speaker 1: reason is so they come across creepy as hell. I mean,
- 12:18Speaker 1: who wouldn't find it creepy to have a massive nude
- 12:20Speaker 1: Nicholas Cage smiling at you from a hole in the wall.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Fun fact Isiyama also drew many of his pure Titans
- 12:26Speaker 1: to look like his friends, family, and various actors he liked.
- 12:29Speaker 1: So when I say there's a Nicholas Cage Titan, I'm
- 12:32Speaker 1: serious from in universe. However, the reason why a Titan
- 12:36Speaker 1: smiles is explained because they're in terrible anguish. Emir not Fritz,
- 12:41Speaker 1: the one in the Cadet corpse who ate Marcel. She
- 12:44Speaker 1: said that being a peer Titan was living hell, and
- 12:47Speaker 1: that it was also like a waking nightmare. We're even
- 12:50Speaker 1: treated to a nice time lapse of amirs depressed Titan
- 12:53Speaker 1: taking a dirt nap for the next fifty years until
- 12:55Speaker 1: Marcel sets up camp on top of her. But the
- 12:57Speaker 1: reason they smile isn't just because they've lost their sanity.
- 13:00Speaker 1: They also display happy movements, particularly when the walls are
- 13:04Speaker 1: torn down, in which they rush toward their enemies in
- 13:07Speaker 1: a silly, if not dancing way. This is because they're
- 13:10Speaker 1: happy that they have the chance to possibly eat a
- 13:12Speaker 1: shifter and return to human form. This is also why
- 13:16Speaker 1: few of the abariant Titans also don't smile, and instead
- 13:19Speaker 1: display a face of pure focus and determination. This is
- 13:23Speaker 1: also your answer for why Titans always throw up. The
- 13:26Speaker 1: reason for that is while they do have digestive systems,
- 13:29Speaker 1: those systems don't actually function, and thus they can't digest anything.
- 13:33Speaker 1: They eat. They merely eat humans hoping to get lucky,
- 13:36Speaker 1: as if they eat a shifter they will transform back
- 13:39Speaker 1: into a human, which is likely a euphemism for how
- 13:42Speaker 1: Emir felt that the Titans made her a slave in
- 13:44Speaker 1: a different way and sought to be free. If a
- 13:47Speaker 1: Titan eats a shifter, regardless of whether they can digest them,
- 13:50Speaker 1: it counts. So why did Erin get eaten and Santa
- 13:53Speaker 1: Titan didn't turn human again? The answer to this is
- 13:56Speaker 1: that Erin wasn't actually dead, nor was his spine comp
- 14:00Speaker 1: In other words, if Santa Titan was careful to actually
- 14:03Speaker 1: chew instead of just swallowing him, he would have turned
- 14:06Speaker 1: back into a human and survived the day. Why can
- 14:09Speaker 1: Zeke control Titans? This answer actually has very little to
- 14:12Speaker 1: do with the Beast Titan, as it was stated that
- 14:14Speaker 1: no other Beast Titan in the past could do it,
- 14:17Speaker 1: but instead only Zeke, who was basically like a second
- 14:20Speaker 1: founding Titan. The reason was purely because he was a
- 14:23Speaker 1: royal with the power of the Titans, which essentially made
- 14:26Speaker 1: him a founding Titan by default. If Astoria Reese had
- 14:29Speaker 1: eaten Zeke, as was the plan, she too could have
- 14:31Speaker 1: commanded Titans just like him. It's even a personal theory
- 14:35Speaker 1: of mind that had there been any other Titans near
- 14:37Speaker 1: rod Reese's pure Titan form, he could have commanded them too.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So long as someone with royal blood had access to
- 14:43Speaker 1: the power of the Titans, they can tap into the
- 14:46Speaker 1: founding Titan's power with or without actually being the Founder.
- 14:50Speaker 1: What the heck's up with the Akerman clan? Well, the
- 14:52Speaker 1: Akkerman clan is a unique clan in that they possess
- 14:55Speaker 1: the power of the Titans, but can't actually turn into
- 14:58Speaker 1: Titans themselves, which is part of the reason why Levi's
- 15:01Speaker 1: so bad ass and considered a human Titan despite not
- 15:05Speaker 1: actually being one. The secret is that Carl Fritz wanted
- 15:08Speaker 1: a clan to protect him, so he took the Akerman
- 15:10Speaker 1: clan and made them immune to the Founder's influence. Due
- 15:14Speaker 1: to this, they cannot actually transform into Titans even if
- 15:17Speaker 1: injected with Titan serum. Had Kenny decided to try and
- 15:20Speaker 1: become a Titan after being burned, nothing would have happened
- 15:23Speaker 1: and they would have lost the last of the Titan
- 15:25Speaker 1: fluid and Arman would have died. But the secret about
- 15:28Speaker 1: the Ackerman plan is that while unable to turn into Titans,
- 15:31Speaker 1: they still can use its power. They gain incredible strength
- 15:35Speaker 1: from trauma, similar to the concept of hysterical strength, and
- 15:38Speaker 1: they can further gain incredible knowledge of how to fight
- 15:41Speaker 1: due to the same power that allows Titan shifters to
- 15:44Speaker 1: pass memories forward to their next users. Essentially, what was
- 15:48Speaker 1: muscle memory for one Ackerman becomes muscle memory for all
- 15:51Speaker 1: of them, which means that Levi and Mikassa have thousands
- 15:54Speaker 1: of years of battle data stored in their subconscious which
- 15:57Speaker 1: is why they are so freaking deadly. But I can't
- 16:00Speaker 1: think of any more questions right now. If you have
- 16:02Speaker 1: more attack on Titan questions, drop them in the comments
- 16:05Speaker 1: below and maybe I'll explain them in a future video. Anyway,
