- 0:25SPEAKER_02: Welcome back, loyal ones.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: To Not Gonna Hold Back.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: This is an episode about money orders and going to Sam's Club and going to Albertsons.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Because dun dun dun money orders for passports specifically.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: You can start this.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: Do better Western Alliance.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: Is it Western Alliance?
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: The the money order place?
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: Western Union.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Western Union.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, Western Alliance.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: It's Western Union.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: Uh, I recently had to renew my passport this summer when we returned from vacation, and I went to a grocery store.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Not my standard grocery store to get the money order.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna tell you people, I'm very accurate in my my time.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: I think it was about 11 a.m.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: I bought a money order for$190, which is what it cost me to renew my passport steal.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: Great, great rate.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: So I brought the money order home.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: I was signing all of the paperwork, the application, and filling it out, and I got my photos and had all the necessary stuff.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: I don't know what I was thinking.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: It was just 100% my fault.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: I made the passport out to the processing center, passport processing center instead of the U.S.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: Department of State.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know what I was thinking.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: It is not the first time I've renewed a passport.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: And I was like, oh no, as I was copying the docs, I was like, I made it out to the wrong person.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: So I said to him, I gotta go back to to the grocery store.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: So I go back two hours later, yes, couldn't have been more than two hours, and I go up to the the customer service, and there was a lady there.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: The same lady, the same lady that I purchased the money order from two hours ago.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: Again, two hours ago.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: I had the original money order, the receipt, my receipt that came out of the printer.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Obviously, my ID, my phone number, email hadn't changed in two hours.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: So I go up to her and I explained to her that I just made a mistake, wasn't paying attention, and I filled the money order, made it payable to the wrong person, and I had requested her to void it, issue me a new one.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I found out it doesn't work like that.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: I was like, what?
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: She said, Oh, you've already wrote on there who it's payable to.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: I'm like, so what?
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: I made a mistake.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: I lady go pull the freaking camera.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: You just you she recognized me.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Was it like and she made her sign in this book?
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Like they have a book.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: I can sign again, showing you it's the same signature.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: Anyway, she tells me, people, heads up, don't fill out that money order unless you know 100% who's getting it.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: She says to me, Oh, you've already filled it out, made it payable to somebody.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: We can't do anything with it.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: I was I was like, What?
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: And you should have seen how pissed we got.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: What?
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: And I said to her, I was just here two hours ago.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: I bought the money order.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: I know, but we can't do anything about it.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, well, what am I supposed to do with it?
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: Now, and that's$190.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: That's a lot of money, right?
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: She says, Well, you make it payable to yourself or deposit it in your bank.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: And so I'm like, Oh, okay, whatever.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Pain in the butt, but I'm gonna go do it.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: So I scratch it out, make it payable to myself, and I take it to Chase Bank again on my shit list.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: Make it payable to Chase Bank, and I say to the girl, or make it payable to me at Chase Bank, and I give it to the teller and I say, Hey, and I have all the receipts, the original receipt, the other part of it, da-da-da.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Can you fill it out with the purchaser, right?
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: This is what I don't get.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: You fill it out with the purchaser information.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Me, I have my ID, matches the address, the signature, my name on the money order.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: So I give it to the lady at Chase and I say, Can I deposit this in my account?
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: And she's like, as if I'm trying to pull a fast one.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: She says, Oh no.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: No, no, this has been altered.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: She said, if we deposit this into your account, they're gonna freeze your bank account.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: I looked in her like, what?
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: What?
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Just give it here.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: So now I'm pissed at the lady at the grocery store, Smith's.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: I'm pissed at Chase Bank, and I'm thinking, that's$190.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: That's a lot of money.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Now we're going to Alvertson's so we can get a fresh money order.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: So I look it up and I'm like, how do I get a refund on this?
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: So I figure it out.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: I go to Albertsons, I get a new money order.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Love you, Albertsons.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Go to Albertson's, get a new money order, send it off, make it payable to the U.S.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: Department of State.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: So now this$190 passport is a cost me$380, right?
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: Not fun.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: So I mail it off and then I fill out this form, which Western Union, you do make it.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: It is very user-friendly.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: They ask me for the receipt information where I bought it, the date, the amount.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: And of course, I had all of that stuff, right?
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: So I filled it out.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: So I get a response from them three days later.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Again, easy.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: They are willing to refund my$190 because I made a mistake, simple mistake, made it payable to the wrong person.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Should have been paying more attention because that mistake, people$15.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: Didn't the Western Union charged me a$15 fee to get my own money back?
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: Isn't that a god dang sham?
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: Air that said out.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right?
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: We're gonna air this out right now, Western Union.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Shame on you.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Shame on you for charging me$15.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: It cost you nothing to refund my money, yet$15.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: And people, not only that, will they refund it for$15?
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I had to wait five days and then go to a Western Union dealer provider spot, did not go to Smith's, should have to get the money back.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: So I went to Albertson's and they gave me the$175 back.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: So I had to go out of my way to pick up my own money and pay them a$15 fee.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: Isn't that crap?
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's a very shame.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: Western union shame.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: And we air that shit out on this podcast.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: I don't like money orders.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: I don't I remember growing up with my mom.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: I don't think you have had two, because this your generation doesn't, I don't even know if you know what a money order is at this point.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: But we didn't really, we use them all the time.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: Like I remember my mom used to go get them all the time.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: And I think when I was like 20 something, I used to get them at like 711 because I didn't have a bank account then, but you're in a different situation.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: So I remember using money ours and I've never had any trouble like that.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: But like the one time you make a small mistake, it's gonna cost you$15 if you're dealing with Western Union.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: So that's my passport.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: But however, I did get my passport.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: She did get her passport back.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: Did I tell you guys the crazy story about how they had to fly to Colorado to get my passport done?
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're right.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: We did with yours.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Because it was during pandemic, COVID-19.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, we love that.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: At the end, yeah.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: At the end, the government was still not working in Vegas for some odd.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: No, they were busy.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: Remember, everybody was probably like, we can travel again.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: We're gonna like flood that passport system.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so everybody in Vegas was busy, so and we checked LA.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we couldn't get an appointment there, and we couldn't get an appointment in Arizona.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: So dad was doing his master's up at Colorado.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we decided we were gonna go up there and shout out to the beautiful lady who does the passports at the U.S.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: Post Office in Loveland, Colorado.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: She was great.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: She was great.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: She got it done, and I think I got my passport back in like two weeks.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: And I don't know if I like the new passports.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: Remember the old passports, how they had the just the standard sheet, and then your picture was in color.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: But now that the new passports, if anybody's gotten them within the last three, four years, maybe they're that hard, like plastic.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: It makes you look like sort of like a government employee, if you will.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: I just got one of those.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Not a government employee picture.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Still looks like this.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: Not a government employee either.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: But yes, we used to be able to have our pictures in color.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: But some pictures, some passports, I don't know if you guys do out there.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: They tell us not to smile in Vegas, but no, no, you're not allowed to smile.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: That's across the board.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: Do not smile in your passport picture.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: They do not want you to look like you're enjoying yourself and taking a vacation, about to go on vacation.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: It's not gonna happen.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: It is a government document.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: You are not allowed to smile.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: You're not allowed to smile on your driver's license either.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: I think you are on your driver's license.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: No, the lady told me when I got my per when I got my driver's license, don't you smile.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: And it was your first driver's license.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: That should have been something to smile about.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: That was my first driver's license.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: I got that during pandemic too, people.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, you did.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: That's correct.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: That's the only one you've had.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: I'll tell you something about my driver's license, and they do that here this year in in Las Vegas.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: And I don't know if they do it everywhere else.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: But my driver's license picture.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: And I'm not kidding, not exaggerating.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: The last time I took a picture, I think in my driver's license picture, I am probably 40 years old.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: You haven't had a new driver's license?
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: No, they don't make me come in.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: They just use the picture that they have.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: There are a few less wrinkles on that, on that photo, I might add.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: But I'm sure they'll make I'm sure they'll make all of us start coming in when like they did for grandpa.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: He was 94.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: I know, and they still gave him the license for four freaking years.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Do you remember?
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my father-in-law, who passed away last year at almost 95, went to renew his driver's license here in Las Vegas at 93.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: 93, just on it right before his 93rd birthday.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: People, let's stop the nonsense, right?
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, first of all, I'm gonna say this about him because he's passed away and it doesn't matter.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: He at 92 was driving, and I said to him, Listen, I'm available.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: I want to keep the safe, the street safe.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: I will come get you.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Like I will pick you up.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Call me anytime.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: And if I can't do it right then and there, I will, I will do it shortly, right?
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Like I'm not gonna, I will be there for you.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: And he said, Oh no, I don't take the freeway and then I drive in the slow lane and I hype myself up.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: He goes, he didn't say he didn't use that phrase, but he goes, I tell myself, stay in the slow lane, stay in the slow lane.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: It's 35, it's 35, you're doing good.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: And I said to him, sir, if you have to hype yourself up for a drive to the grocery store, should you be driving?
- 13:00unknown: No.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: No is the answer to that.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: And then when his driver's license expired, he went in at 93 years old.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: This is not a joke.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Not only did they agree they renew his driver's license, but they renewed it for four years.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: Can we all agree that like the DMV needs to do better?
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Because what?
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Let's say it's 75.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: And yes, it would be an inconvenience and maybe earlier than 75, but once you reach that age where your driving becomes questionable, then you should have to go every year and they should only renew it a year at a time.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: I told my husband, I was so mad when I found out that they renewed his driver's license for four years.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: 98, nobody 98 years old needs to be driving.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: I said that when he calls us at an accident on the road, that young lady who renewed his driver's license should be held liable, not him.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: And she gave him, she was very nice to him.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: She gave him patience.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she gave him lots of grace.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: He said, Oh, we were we were surprised that he passed the eye exam.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: And he told us that she gave him several chances to have passed the eye exam.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: If you can't pass the eye exam on the first time, maybe you should not get your license at that age anymore.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you should try it again next time.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: Like reschedule another appointment.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Maybe your eyes are having a better day, right?
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: She gave her gave him several tries.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Several.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's true.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: She did.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: He was rather excited about it, too.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: But then he wasn't doing so well.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: He he fell a couple times at his house, and we moved him into assisted living.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: And then he still had his good license, and this man sold his car.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: He did.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: No, he really yeah, he realized he wasn't using it.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: So that was good for everybody on the streets.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: But he did six months later.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: He drove his car over there.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: And then six months later he said, Sell my car, I'm not using it.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Which is good.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Good and safe for the road community, but not necessarily for me because I had to tote him around all the time.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: But that was okay.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we spent our time together.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: He's he's all right.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: So rest in peace.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: So that was pretty funny.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: But no driver's license for four years after the age of 70, 75.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think we can all agree upon that, right?
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Yes, we can.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Well, thanks for tuning in to another amazing episode of Not Gonna Hold Back.
