Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello, everybody, and welcome to Foul Territory. I'm your host today,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Alana Rizzo, taking over for Scott Braun. Here with Eric
- 0:11Speaker 1: Kratz and Todd Frazier. Guys, you can check out our
- 0:13Speaker 1: coverage from the Philly and Braves Game 3 last night
- 0:16Speaker 1: on YouTube. And please press subscribe for us, please, on

- 0:21Speaker 2: It's easy.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's free to do. We appreciate it very much. Check
- 0:23Speaker 1: out all of the fresh merch designs as well, including
- 0:26Speaker 1: player-licensed gear at FoulTerritoryShop.com. All right, guys, now which playoff
- 0:33Speaker 1: series are we the most excited about? Let's take a
- 0:36Speaker 1: look at the remaining playoff bracket, shall we? All right,
- 0:42Speaker 1: so we know now that the Atlanta Braves have advanced,
- 0:45Speaker 1: having beat the Phillies yesterday. We talked about it last night.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Go to that YouTube show and check it out. Sox
- 0:50Speaker 1: and Guardians, of course, an AL Central matchup, Yankees and Rays,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and then, of course, San Diego and the Brewers. All right, Eric,
- 0:58Speaker 1: we'll start with you. What are you looking forward to?
- 1:01Speaker 3: I mean, I got to go to Miwok A, the
- 1:04Speaker 3: best team in baseball record-wise, the best pitcher in baseball,
- 1:09Speaker 3: Jacob Mizorowski, going against the hottest lineup in baseball. So
- 1:14Speaker 3: we don't even have to wait. We don't have to
- 1:16Speaker 3: wait for game two for the best pitcher to be
- 1:18Speaker 3: thrown out there, Guardians. I want to see the Padres
- 1:22Speaker 3: taking on the Brewers and see that clash.
- 1:26Speaker 2: That is a very, very good pick.
- 1:29Speaker 3: I am.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Listen, there's some big games going on, but I am
- 1:33Speaker 4: more intrigued to see this White Sox team, man, to
- 1:36Speaker 4: see if they can ride this wave against the Guardians.
- 1:40Speaker 4: I just want to see another champagne celebration and just
- 1:43Speaker 4: hear the boys in there go crazy. I mean, the
- 1:47Speaker 4: stuff they've been saying, just absolutely comical. I would like
- 1:51Speaker 4: to see this squad kind of finish what they're starting
- 1:53Speaker 4: here right now. And I just think they have, The tools,
- 1:57Speaker 4: they're not afraid of anything. And they are just a
- 1:59Speaker 4: team that's just going to go play no matter who
- 2:01Speaker 4: they play. So Guardians need to be where I think
- 2:03Speaker 4: that's very intriguing. That's the game I'm very intrigued to watch.
- 2:08Speaker 4: I think that series is going to be very, very special.
- 2:10Speaker 1: All right, I'm going to talk to Murakami. Always a
- 2:13Speaker 1: good soundbite. He is a funny guy. And congratulations to
- 2:16Speaker 1: Will Venable. Many thinking he is the AL Manager of
- 2:20Speaker 1: the Year. Okay, guys, lots to get to. Let's charge
- 2:23Speaker 1: them out.
- 2:28Speaker 3: All right.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Braves and Dodgers. A big series, of course, coming up
- 2:32Speaker 1: in the National League. The Dodgers have been waiting, having
- 2:34Speaker 1: watch parties, waiting to see who they were going to face.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And now they know. It's the Atlanta Braves. Congratulations to
- 2:40Speaker 1: Walt Weiss and his crew. Eric, what do you like
- 2:43Speaker 1: about this series? What will you be looking for? I
- 2:45Speaker 1: know you said Padres Brewers intrigued you, but when we're
- 2:47Speaker 1: talking Braves and Dodgers, what do you like?
- 2:51Speaker 3: I mean, just the absolute depth of this team from
- 2:54Speaker 3: lineup to rotation. I like the fact that the Dodgers,
- 3:00Speaker 3: while it was never really in question, it got close
- 3:03Speaker 3: at some point that, you know what, if they don't
- 3:06Speaker 3: get this by how does this team's, you know, health
- 3:10Speaker 3: in their lineup string out to me, to me, I
- 3:12Speaker 3: don't think like the guys that struggled in September or
- 3:16Speaker 3: the guys that were struggling in August were like just
- 3:19Speaker 3: aging during the season. I just think they played a
- 3:21Speaker 3: lot of games, and I think these days off helps
- 3:25Speaker 3: this team get locked in, ready to go. I'm excited
- 3:28Speaker 3: to see how much damage they can do against a
- 3:33Speaker 3: little bit more tired Atlanta Braves rotation and decently used
- 3:40Speaker 3: bullpen in the last series.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Fraze, I want your opinion on this because there seems
- 3:44Speaker 1: to be a little bit of a budding rivalry between
- 3:47Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves. I mean,
- 3:49Speaker 1: these are teams that are perennially, at least in the
- 3:51Speaker 1: postseason picture of the conversation, but through playoff meetings, um,
- 3:55Speaker 1: they've had some interesting times. So in 2018, a Dodgers
- 3:58Speaker 1: NLDS win 2020, a memorable Dodgers comeback from that three
- 4:02Speaker 1: games to one deficit. Of course, they ended up winning
- 4:04Speaker 1: the world series against the Rays that year. Um, Mookie Betts,
- 4:08Speaker 1: the great catch in 2020. And then in 2021, a
- 4:11Speaker 1: Braves NLCS upset en route to their most recent World
- 4:16Speaker 1: Series title. So there's a lot to talk about when
- 4:18Speaker 1: these two teams go head to head. Is there something
- 4:21Speaker 1: in particular you're going to watch for?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Scooble is one.
- 4:28Speaker 4: He's on a different team and he's rearing back ready
- 4:34Speaker 4: to fire. I mean, he's one of those guys that
- 4:37Speaker 4: You know, with the Tigers, he's their number one. Now
- 4:39Speaker 4: you come to the Dodgers. I'm not saying he's not,
- 4:41Speaker 4: but this is a different kind of atmosphere that he
- 4:44Speaker 4: has to really go into.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And for him, yeah. Do things change? No, not necessarily.
- 4:50Speaker 4: But you're playing against a team that has beaten you
- 4:52Speaker 4: five straight times. And that's coming in here. That has
- 4:55Speaker 4: got a little fire up their rear end, for lack
- 4:57Speaker 4: of better words.
- 4:58Speaker 2: They're ready to go. They're not afraid to go to L.A.
- 5:01Speaker 4: They are not afraid to face these big giants.
- 5:03Speaker 2: The Dodgers have had a lot of injuries. But guess what?
- 5:06Speaker 4: When the Dodgers, all of a sudden the playoffs come,
- 5:09Speaker 4: the tick meter goes up, and all of a sudden
- 5:11Speaker 4: the pressure goes on everybody else.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I need to see Ronald Acuna Jr. get going here
- 5:15Speaker 2: a little bit. That's another guy.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I need to see him get fired up, whether he's
- 5:19Speaker 4: leading off, batting second, whatever. He needs to set the
- 5:22Speaker 4: tone for this Braves team. Enough of the two hits
- 5:25Speaker 4: and busts here in this last series. The other guys
- 5:28Speaker 4: carried him a little bit. It's time for him to
- 5:30Speaker 4: step up, get going, and just ride that wave. If
- 5:34Speaker 4: he goes, the Braves are going to have a really
- 5:35Speaker 4: good time playing this team, but ultimately you got to
- 5:39Speaker 4: go up on this Dodger team and you got to
- 5:40Speaker 4: stay up on this team because they have a lot
- 5:43Speaker 4: of firepower.
- 5:44Speaker 1: If you're looking at just starting rotations, EK, you obviously,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I would think you'd go with the Dodgers, but the
- 5:48Speaker 1: braid is certainly a formidable club in terms of offense
- 5:51Speaker 1: is concerned. And for age mentioned Tarek Scooble. I love
- 5:54Speaker 1: the love affair between Tarek Scooble and Blake Snell. That's
- 5:57Speaker 1: something for another time, but you look at Scooble and
- 6:00Speaker 1: he had a quote with Bill Shakin, who covers baseball
- 6:04Speaker 1: for the LA times. Now the California Post, I guess.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But he's saying that if he does not get a championship,
- 6:12Speaker 1: he will consider it to be a bit of a
- 6:15Speaker 1: disappointment as far as his career is concerned. You can
- 6:18Speaker 1: see the quote there. He said, yes, I think winning
- 6:20Speaker 1: is the most important thing. So I think it's fair
- 6:23Speaker 1: to say if I retire and don't have one. that
- 6:25Speaker 1: will definitely be something that I don't know when I
- 6:27Speaker 1: will live down. This is the best chance he has
- 6:30Speaker 1: to get it right as a Dodger in the moment.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Obviously the tiger is not even in the, the post-season
- 6:36Speaker 1: picture where he goes from here. We don't know, but
- 6:39Speaker 1: a good opportunity for Scooble to get that championship.
- 6:43Speaker 3: It might, it might piss people off, but if they don't,
- 6:45Speaker 3: if the Dodgers don't win the championship this year, I mean,
- 6:49Speaker 3: maybe Tarek might go chasing it again with the Dodgers
- 6:52Speaker 3: for next year. You know, obviously it's, We got a
- 6:55Speaker 3: lot of time to discuss that in the offseason. But
- 6:58Speaker 3: this is refreshing to me because the game of baseball
- 7:01Speaker 3: rarely are people willing to put themselves out there like, well,
- 7:05Speaker 3: this would actually diminish my career a little bit if
- 7:08Speaker 3: I didn't win a championship. Football, I mean, you base
- 7:12Speaker 3: the greats at the quarterback position because of a championship.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Like different guys at different positions, you're like, well, did
- 7:19Speaker 3: he win a championship? That's a little bit. of a diminished,
- 7:23Speaker 3: you know, value basketball all the time. They're always judging
- 7:27Speaker 3: the greats on championships. So I love that Scooble who
- 7:30Speaker 3: wants to be one of the greats wants to be
- 7:32Speaker 3: judged whether he wins a championship or not. And I
- 7:35Speaker 3: think it's, I think it's his own words and it
- 7:38Speaker 3: just shows it's a glimpse of how he thinks and
- 7:41Speaker 3: how he goes about his work every day.
- 7:43Speaker 1: All right. With the LA times guys, I wanted to
- 7:46Speaker 1: make that correction phrase. Let's talk about the offense for
- 7:48Speaker 1: a hot second. Um, The Dodgers, no better offense in
- 7:52Speaker 1: the majors during the first half of the season than them.
- 7:54Speaker 1: But they've really scuffled the last couple of months coming
- 7:57Speaker 1: into this into the postseason, really down the stretch. How
- 8:01Speaker 1: much does that matter? Do they flip that switch that
- 8:04Speaker 1: you talked about?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Oh, of course. I don't think it matters at all.
- 8:08Speaker 4: I mean, you take, you know, for an example, Austin
- 8:12Speaker 4: Wells struggled this year and all of a sudden he's
- 8:13Speaker 4: starting to take off a little bit in the playoffs.
- 8:15Speaker 4: It doesn't matter what you do in the regular season.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Everybody starts at zero, as we all know. Mookie Betts,
- 8:21Speaker 4: Freddie Freeman. When you hear these names and you see
- 8:24Speaker 4: these guys get up, and I'm not even talking about
- 8:27Speaker 4: the big dog, as we all know, with Shohei, but
- 8:30Speaker 4: these guys have been there before.
- 8:31Speaker 2: These guys understand it.
- 8:32Speaker 4: They could take these young guys by the side and say, yo,
- 8:35Speaker 4: relax a little bit. Tarek Skubal gets out of hand pitching.
- 8:39Speaker 4: He gets a little erratic. All of a sudden, hey,
- 8:42Speaker 4: we got guys glassing out. Guys can settle each other down.
- 8:45Speaker 4: I think that's the camaraderie they have, the culture that
- 8:47Speaker 4: they have. It starts with Dave Roberts. And I think
- 8:51Speaker 4: what they do best is they build off each other.
- 8:54Speaker 4: You know, the old adage, hitting is contagious. Yeah, when
- 8:57Speaker 4: Mookie gets going, Freddie gets rocking, everybody else wants a
- 9:01Speaker 4: little love too. So, yeah, watch out for this squad.
- 9:04Speaker 4: I'll be honest with you. I had them winning from
- 9:08Speaker 4: day one. I just– You know, the Brewers team is
- 9:12Speaker 4: really good, but ultimately this team has everything you need
- 9:17Speaker 4: and more.
- 9:18Speaker 2: So just watch out.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Watch the first inning and see how Mookie gets going
- 9:23Speaker 4: and Shohei and everybody else and the crowd.
- 9:25Speaker 2: The crowd plays a huge factor in L.A.
- 9:28Speaker 1: If you're just going off the regular season stats, which
- 9:30Speaker 1: we're not for the postseason, the Braves certainly better. 5-1
- 9:34Speaker 1: in terms of head-to-head matchups in the regular season.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I can't really answer that question.
- 9:42Speaker 1: We haven't played the games for next year or anything else.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Each year is so different than the year before.
- 9:49Speaker 5: I don't know. I can't really answer that question. You know,
- 9:52Speaker 5: we haven't played the games for next year or anything else.
- 9:55Speaker 5: So each year is so different than the year before.
- 9:57Speaker 5: So I don't really put stock into years before what
- 10:02Speaker 5: happened or anything else. You know, this was a brand
- 10:05Speaker 5: new team. Obviously, we had the guys that are part
- 10:08Speaker 5: of that core group.
- 10:09Speaker 3: That we are.
- 10:11Speaker 5: I'd imagine this team is going to look a lot
- 10:12Speaker 5: different next year. The guys that are kind of leaving
- 10:14Speaker 5: this clubhouse. So we'll see.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Guys, Ken Rosenthal, who's going to join our show in
- 10:21Speaker 1: a little bit, had an article recently in The Athletic
- 10:23Speaker 1: that said the Phillies need to have everybody on the
- 10:26Speaker 1: table in terms of trades, including Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. EK,
- 10:31Speaker 1: what do you make of Bryce Harper's comments there that
- 10:35Speaker 1: this team is going to look very differently? Because once again,
- 10:38Speaker 1: an early exit for the Phillies.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I mean, yeah. Any team, if I count down here
- 10:45Speaker 3: of names that people know, Jose Alvarado, Brooks Raley, Edmundo Sosa,
- 10:49Speaker 3: Adolis Garcia, Alec Baum, Luis, Luis arise. Like that's a
- 10:54Speaker 3: significant Tim Mesa was one of the only bullpen pieces
- 10:57Speaker 3: outside of Duran use. So yeah, like they're going to
- 11:01Speaker 3: look different. Are they built like everybody, you know, everybody
- 11:05Speaker 3: on the next day after the Phillies lose, they're going
- 11:07Speaker 3: to be like, Oh, burn this team down. Get rid
- 11:10Speaker 3: of Mattingly. Get rid of Turner. Get rid of Schwarber.
- 11:14Speaker 3: If you can't like, that's not what, That's not what
- 11:17Speaker 3: Ken's saying in his article. Ken's saying there needs to
- 11:20Speaker 3: be some type of shift and move. And I think
- 11:23Speaker 3: Dombrowski was this close before the Mets panic signed and
- 11:27Speaker 3: got Bo Bichette. Where does that contract– where did that
- 11:31Speaker 3: contract fit in? Well, it's not there. What does it
- 11:34Speaker 3: look like for next year? Does Aiden Miller come up?
- 11:36Speaker 3: There's a lot of stuff that the Phillies can do
- 11:38Speaker 3: to make this team look a lot different, and I
- 11:40Speaker 3: don't think it means– break it down, cut it down,
- 11:44Speaker 3: make it, you know, they're going to make moves. Maybe
- 11:46Speaker 3: Trey Turner might play center field. Maybe somebody steps in
- 11:50Speaker 3: and then shortstop. Maybe they make a move for that
- 11:52Speaker 3: third base position, all things that are possible for next year.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 4: And I, I think that Louisa rise injury really hurt them, man.
- 12:00Speaker 4: That's a staple. That's a dude that doesn't strike out
- 12:03Speaker 4: a lot. He puts the ball in play. He's a
- 12:05Speaker 4: menace when it comes to hitting him, getting on base
- 12:08Speaker 4: for some of the big dogs coming up next there.
- 12:10Speaker 4: I mean, Nothing against Trey Turner, but Louisa Rice is
- 12:14Speaker 4: absolute dynamite when it comes to taking pitches, making the
- 12:18Speaker 4: pitcher work a little bit.
- 12:21Speaker 2: All right, guys.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So far this postseason, this from Sarah Langs, the great
- 12:24Speaker 1: Sarah Langs on X. Teams to score first, they are 8-1.
- 12:28Speaker 1: That makes sense. Teams to out-homer opponents are 6-1. 49.3%
- 12:33Speaker 1: of runs have been scored via the long ball, so
- 12:35Speaker 1: almost half of the runs coming via the home run.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Not surprising there as well. What do you make of that?
- 12:42Speaker 1: Does that seem pretty standard to you, Todd?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess so. I mean, there's a lot.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Actually, Scott's the best stats ever out there.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yeah, there's been a home run. I've heard a lot
- 12:55Speaker 2: about that.
- 12:56Speaker 4: The home run, guys that hit more home runs usually
- 12:58Speaker 4: are the ones that win the games.
- 13:01Speaker 2: The scoring first, that's unique to me.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Eight and one scoring first, usually there's maybe a hiccup
- 13:07Speaker 4: but it seems like the teams that do score first
- 13:09Speaker 4: score in bunches so it makes it hard for them
- 13:12Speaker 4: to come back but um yeah 50 50 on the
- 13:15Speaker 4: home runs that that that that's a big one right
- 13:17Speaker 4: there so the long ball is in play so brewers
- 13:21Speaker 4: long ball time let's go show me something.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Or just give up less homers like you don't have
- 13:28Speaker 3: to hit so many if you don't give too many
- 13:30Speaker 3: up and this is This is straight into, as much
- 13:33Speaker 3: as we talk about Wilson Contreras' comments about too much analytics,
- 13:38Speaker 3: these numbers, I bet it's not just this postseason. I
- 13:41Speaker 3: love that it's up here right now, but teams to
- 13:44Speaker 3: score first. Well, why is that? Because the best hitters
- 13:47Speaker 3: are hitting at the top of the order, so most
- 13:48Speaker 3: likely that's what's going to happen. So what do teams do?
- 13:51Speaker 3: I don't know. This guy's not the best matchup. We're
- 13:54Speaker 3: going to go with the dude that throws fuel and
- 13:56Speaker 3: usually throws the seventh, eighth inning for us. So that's
- 14:00Speaker 3: where the opener comes from. Everybody's got to swing for
- 14:02Speaker 3: the fences. That's where this home run stats come from.
- 14:05Speaker 3: That's what's going to be the most interesting one thing
- 14:09Speaker 3: to watch in this entire postseason. How do the Brewers
- 14:14Speaker 3: have success when these are the numbers that we see?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I think, I mean, how much
- 14:23Speaker 1: of it in the postseason, though, comes out to fundamental baseball,
- 14:28Speaker 1: catching the ball. defending the ball, you know, more than
- 14:31Speaker 1: the offense. I mean, all things being equal, you have
- 14:34Speaker 1: to play the game in the field the right way, no?
- 14:37Speaker 4: Yeah, and not to jump over you, Kratzy, I mean,
- 14:40Speaker 4: look at what Spencer Jones did on a missed strike three.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Absolutely kick-started that inning. He beat the ball to first.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Wilson Contreras, he wasn't in the right position to catch
- 14:50Speaker 4: the ball. His foot was probably even off the bag.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Guys, check out our merch at FoulTerritoryShop.com. Always cool stuff there.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You can see it all over the place. FoulTerritoryShop.com. Celebrate us.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Celebrate the show. Celebrate the network. And we appreciate your
- 15:06Speaker 1: support very much. All right, guys. Tuesday's Game 1 between
- 15:09Speaker 1: the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees averaged
- 15:13Speaker 1: 7.3 million viewers across NBC and Peacock, making it the
- 15:17Speaker 1: most watched Game 1 of any Major League Baseball playoff
- 15:21Speaker 1: series in the wildcard or division round. since 2006. That's
- 15:26Speaker 1: pretty impressive. Todd, is it because it was the two teams?
- 15:30Speaker 1: You know, just that long-time rivalry, in your opinion? Or
- 15:34Speaker 1: just the popularity of the game that we love so
- 15:36Speaker 1: much in general?
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's a little bit of both.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Kratz is funny. I think it has to deal with
- 15:43Speaker 4: who is playing for sure. Two big marketable cities. I
- 15:48Speaker 4: think the Cam Schlittler talk with him and the back-and-forth
- 15:53Speaker 4: battle between You know, the people in the New England
- 15:57Speaker 4: area letting him know that he doesn't care. I mean,
- 15:59Speaker 4: Sonny Gray letting people know that he didn't like playing
- 16:02Speaker 4: in New York. It made for some good little, I guess,
- 16:06Speaker 4: comedic value towards the games. But, you know, anything that
- 16:11Speaker 4: deals with Yankees, it seems to go a little bigger. L.A.,
- 16:14Speaker 4: you know, there's some big marketable cities. So Boston-Yankee rivalry
- 16:19Speaker 4: up here on the East Coast. goes long ways and
- 16:22Speaker 4: there's a lot of people that used to live in
- 16:23Speaker 4: the east coast that live down south they are going
- 16:26Speaker 4: to warmer weather that are definitely still going to be
- 16:28Speaker 4: watching these games so it's all over it's all over
- 16:31Speaker 4: the world for sure so i think a little bit
- 16:33Speaker 4: of both but you know i think the camp schlittler
- 16:36Speaker 4: thing plays plays big part in that too.
- 16:40Speaker 3: A little drama a little drama for your mama is
- 16:43Speaker 3: that what you're saying like no look the game is
- 16:46Speaker 3: broken We need to have a cap because the game
- 16:49Speaker 3: is broken. It's never been more, wait a minute. No,
- 16:53Speaker 3: 20 years. It's the largest viewership in 20 years. Like,
- 17:00Speaker 3: let's continue this on. Let's keep it going. I don't
- 17:02Speaker 3: care if it was Red Sox, Yankees. It's not even like,
- 17:06Speaker 3: like that doesn't, that doesn't matter. People wanted to tune
- 17:08Speaker 3: in because the game is at such a great place
- 17:11Speaker 3: and it's a great product to watch right now.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Let's see how you guys did yesterday. We're starting at
- 17:23Speaker 1: zero in the season. Looks like everybody hit. Good job.
- 17:28Speaker 5: Nice.
- 17:28Speaker 3: It was crazy that we all had the same line.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Most of you, yeah, except for Pap, right?
- 17:35Speaker 3: That's good. Pap and Pap is in fuego right now. Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Yeah. He's always out on his own. He's constantly rogue.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Where are we going today? What are you guys doing
- 17:46Speaker 1: in terms of who you're picking?
- 17:50Speaker 2: Go ahead, Crotty.
- 17:52Speaker 3: I am taking the Rays tomorrow. The Rays' first five
- 17:56Speaker 3: innings to be up by a run. I think the
- 17:59Speaker 3: Rays are going to jump out on top of the Yankees.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Garrett Cole, I think it's going to be a low-scoring game.
- 18:05Speaker 3: I think Drew Rasmussen is– nasty and he's going to
- 18:08Speaker 3: be in there for the first five so I'm going
- 18:10Speaker 3: first five the Rays are going to be winning by
- 18:13Speaker 3: a run or more and that's paying minus 102 okay so.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That would get out of the red if you will
- 18:23Speaker 1: if you win today um all right what about.
- 18:26Speaker 4: You you can have that first five I think Cole
- 18:30Speaker 4: Garrett Cole with a little more day's rest And the
- 18:33Speaker 4: guy throws a lot better.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I've seen it before.
- 18:36Speaker 4: I think they're going to beat the Tampa Bay Rays. And, again,
- 18:39Speaker 4: I agree, low-scoring game. I think both guys are going
- 18:42Speaker 4: to go into the seventh inning, and we're going to
- 18:45Speaker 4: see which bullpen can take care of business. I think
- 18:47Speaker 4: the Yankees are going to find a way to win
- 18:49Speaker 4: a close one, 2-1, 2-0, 3-2, that kind of game.
- 18:54Speaker 4: So give me the Yankees to steal game one going
- 18:58Speaker 4: up 1-0.
- 18:59Speaker 1: All right, so you guys are sticking with the AL
- 19:01Speaker 1: in terms of that series, Yankees-Rays. I'm going National League, Padres,
- 19:05Speaker 1: Milwaukee Brewers. I'm taking Padres on the money line just
- 19:07Speaker 1: straight up to win game one on Saturday. That's plus 180.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Any game, any play this postseason, guys, use the Parlay
- 19:16Speaker 1: Boost token this weekend on postseason MLB action. Score a
- 19:20Speaker 1: bigger payout if your Parlay wins. Gambling problem or concern?
- 19:24Speaker 1: Call 1-800-GAMBLER. We're coming right back. Stay with us. It
- 19:33Speaker 1: is time now for In the Weeds. It is Yankees.
- 19:37Speaker 1: It is Tampa Bay. Cole over Carlos Rodon in game
- 19:40Speaker 1: one for the ALDS. Chris Kirshner rather tweeted, the Yankees
- 19:46Speaker 1: are generally get criticized for being too analytical, but this
- 19:49Speaker 1: is a decision that plainly goes against the numbers. Todd,
- 19:52Speaker 1: you're a Yankee guy. What do you make of it?
- 19:55Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a hard decision because of how good
- 19:58Speaker 4: Carlos Rodon has been and what he did to the
- 20:02Speaker 4: Rays the last time he faced them. The dude, 16 starts,
- 20:06Speaker 4: three runs or less. In 16 straight? I mean, you
- 20:11Speaker 4: can't really be better than that. And that was the
- 20:13Speaker 4: decision even in the wild card. Does Carlos Rodon get
- 20:16Speaker 4: one of these starts? No, the Yankees are going to
- 20:18Speaker 4: stick to their guns. They're going to get Garrett Cole
- 20:20Speaker 4: game one and then still kind of unsure. I'm sure
- 20:24Speaker 4: it will be Schlittler, if I'm not mistaking. I mean,
- 20:27Speaker 4: I don't know why you wouldn't go Schlittler game two
- 20:29Speaker 4: so he can come back and get game five if needed. Yeah,
- 20:35Speaker 4: it's a tough one, but They have all the riches.
- 20:38Speaker 4: It's a great thing to have. I don't mind Carlos
- 20:40Speaker 4: Rodon in the bullpen. I don't mind Will Warren in
- 20:42Speaker 4: the bullpen. What happens if, you know, one of these
- 20:45Speaker 4: guys can't get through three innings? Then you have a
- 20:48Speaker 4: Carlos Rodon, but he deserves it. Rodon deserves to get
- 20:51Speaker 4: one of these starts.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Will he get it?
- 20:54Speaker 4: I don't think so, but, you know, they carried, what,
- 20:59Speaker 4: 10 pitchers in the wild card and 16 position players.
- 21:01Speaker 4: That will definitely turn. Two guys are going to be
- 21:04Speaker 4: left off, so... position-wise, in my opinion.
- 21:09Speaker 2: We'll see. We'll see.
- 21:10Speaker 4: But it's Cole's time. From what I'm hearing and what
- 21:14Speaker 4: I'm seeing, this was always the game plan of them
- 21:17Speaker 4: moving forward.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it looks like Schlittler in game two, Max Fried
- 21:21Speaker 1: will go in game three. I mean, that's an embarrassment
- 21:23Speaker 1: of riches as far as a starting rotation is concerned.
- 21:25Speaker 1: The Yankees are stacked. EK, does it surprise you considering
- 21:29Speaker 1: game one is such a momentum game, such a statement game?
- 21:34Speaker 3: No, I mean, if you're leaning on Carlos Rodon because
- 21:39Speaker 3: he's left-handed, I don't think the Yankees feel like they're
- 21:42Speaker 3: putting their best team out there overall. I don't think
- 21:46Speaker 3: they're going to throw Garrett Cole out of the bullpen
- 21:49Speaker 3: after he missed the entire season last year. So I
- 21:54Speaker 3: think there's part of that. I also think like, man,
- 21:59Speaker 3: what an embarrassment of riches to be able to say– Yeah,
- 22:03Speaker 3: you know what? Rodon might be a better matchup, but
- 22:06Speaker 3: Cole is... To me, you're going Garrett Cole. I'm going
- 22:09Speaker 3: Garrett Cole every time. I don't care what... It's like
- 22:11Speaker 3: one of those things when you look at a scouting
- 22:13Speaker 3: report and you go, this guy really hits sliders. Well,
- 22:16Speaker 3: I throw 80% sliders, so am I not throwing a slider?
- 22:20Speaker 3: You got to go your best versus their best, and
- 22:24Speaker 3: Garrett Cole is up there. He's proved he's earned this spot.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Not that Carlos Rodon hasn't, but Man, this is why
- 22:32Speaker 3: you signed this guy. This is why Cashman said it
- 22:36Speaker 3: was his white whale when he signed him. And this
- 22:41Speaker 3: is his spot. I think there's more value for the
- 22:43Speaker 3: entire Yankees team to have him start and Rodon available
- 22:48Speaker 3: in case something happens, when something happens, whatever it is.
- 22:54Speaker 1: The extra day off, guys, allows you to bring your
- 22:57Speaker 1: game one starter back for game four if need be.
- 22:59Speaker 1: So that's part of the decision-making process, I'm sure. But
- 23:02Speaker 1: what a weapon it would be to have Rodon coming
- 23:04Speaker 1: out of the bullpen. Obviously not what he's used to doing,
- 23:08Speaker 1: but obviously still a very good pitcher. All right, so...
- 23:11Speaker 1: we may not see Aaron judge in the, in the DS. Uh,
- 23:14Speaker 1: Jeff Paston had an article that dropped earlier that his
- 23:16Speaker 1: status is up in the air. Um, and it's unlikely
- 23:19Speaker 1: to be decided until shortly before the series begins on Saturday.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So some of the, some in the organization want him
- 23:25Speaker 1: to play others wary of him, wary of him further
- 23:28Speaker 1: aggravating the injury. Um, I mean, this is getting, uh, it's,
- 23:33Speaker 1: he's your best bat and if he can go, don't
- 23:36Speaker 1: you have to let him go?
- 23:37Speaker 2: For sure. Um, Most definitely.
- 23:42Speaker 4: And now this is, excuse me, not only him, you
- 23:46Speaker 4: got the big G as well, Stanton. I know he
- 23:48Speaker 4: was on the roster in the wild card. Is he
- 23:51Speaker 4: a guy that gets moved off the roster knowing that
- 23:54Speaker 4: there's other guys that can play better defense? Their decisions
- 23:59Speaker 4: are so hard because you have a lot of great
- 24:01Speaker 4: guys you can pick from. Yeah, if Aaron Judge is 60%
- 24:06Speaker 4: or even 50%, I think he's a dude that you,
- 24:11Speaker 4: that you put in there. I know calf strains are
- 24:13Speaker 4: a pain in the butt. I know when Mike Trout
- 24:15Speaker 4: went through, whatever the grade they gave him, I don't
- 24:18Speaker 4: even think they even came out and gave it. I
- 24:19Speaker 4: think it should have said a mild strain or whatever
- 24:21Speaker 4: it is. If he says he can go, I'm putting
- 24:25Speaker 4: him out there and being cautious with him. I DH him.
- 24:28Speaker 4: You might have to move Ben Rice, you know, back
- 24:30Speaker 4: to first base and somebody else might, you know, like
- 24:32Speaker 4: Garcia might have to wait his turn a little bit. Goldsmith,
- 24:38Speaker 4: same thing. So, This is a tough one. I know
- 24:40Speaker 4: Aaron Judge wants to be out there. He's talked about it.
- 24:42Speaker 4: He wanted to be out there in the wild card.
- 24:43Speaker 2: He thought he could.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Another week off, if they can find a way to win,
- 24:48Speaker 4: I think that would be huge too. So if he's on,
- 24:51Speaker 4: it changes everything for this team. If he's not, then
- 24:55Speaker 4: Stanton probably stays on there again. So we'll see moving forward.
- 25:00Speaker 3: How much of a disconnect is there? Because I love
- 25:02Speaker 3: watching interviews, what guys are saying, what Booney says, and
- 25:07Speaker 3: they're just not meeting eye to eye. But the reality
- 25:10Speaker 3: is I think everybody in each situation is saying exactly
- 25:13Speaker 3: what they're supposed to say. If you have a player
- 25:14Speaker 3: who's like, don't know if I can go, and they're
- 25:18Speaker 3: like 70%, then what kind of player is that? And
- 25:22Speaker 3: if an organization's like, run him out there. I don't
- 25:25Speaker 3: care how hurt he is. We play hurt in this organization.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Then what kind of organization is it? So everybody's saying
- 25:32Speaker 3: the right thing for the Yankees. I guess the focus,
- 25:37Speaker 3: because they said it, they said, They don't want to
- 25:40Speaker 3: aggravate it more. The focus is we're planning on doing
- 25:44Speaker 3: big things. We're planning on making it to the ALCS.
- 25:47Speaker 3: We're planning on making it to the World Series, and
- 25:49Speaker 3: we want him. Do they make it without him? Do
- 25:52Speaker 3: they get by the best team in the American League
- 25:54Speaker 3: without him? I don't know, and that's why I'm not
- 26:00Speaker 3: sure it's good to sit him out. To me, he
- 26:04Speaker 3: was disappointed he came out of the first game he
- 26:06Speaker 3: played after his 80-whatever, 81- day rehab that he had
- 26:11Speaker 3: for his rib. Like it is a, it is like,
- 26:16Speaker 3: they're not, they're not seeing eye to eye on these
- 26:19Speaker 3: injuries and what he feels like he can play and
- 26:22Speaker 3: what the organization feels like is the best team to
- 26:25Speaker 3: put out there.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Isn't that the point though, that the Rays are not
- 26:29Speaker 1: the Red Sox phrase that this is going to be
- 26:31Speaker 1: a lot harder than the wild card round was for
- 26:34Speaker 1: these Yankees. And if Aaron judge is a 50% Aaron
- 26:36Speaker 1: judge or a 60% Aaron judge, I'm putting them in there.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Yeah, agreed.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I mean, you think about the three-headed monsters of the
- 26:45Speaker 4: Rays who they have there. I mean, starting out with
- 26:48Speaker 4: Diaz and, you know, moving forward with the group that
- 26:51Speaker 4: they got. It's hard to get by them one time,
- 26:56Speaker 4: two times, three times in a game without one or
- 26:59Speaker 4: two of those guys doing some damage.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Aranda, I mean.
- 27:04Speaker 4: These– it's just– They are so quietly good. It's like
- 27:09Speaker 4: disturbing sometimes just how you sit back. How is this
- 27:12Speaker 4: team doing it? Well, they got great culture. They got
- 27:15Speaker 4: good camaraderie. And I think they just play the game
- 27:18Speaker 4: the right way. So, yeah, it's just it's hard to
- 27:22Speaker 4: figure out when they get on base. They cause so
- 27:24Speaker 4: much havoc and they will take the extra base and
- 27:27Speaker 4: they will do the little things, get the bunt down
- 27:29Speaker 4: and actually score and maybe leak out a bunt.
- 27:32Speaker 2: That was a sack bunt and a hit. seen it
- 27:34Speaker 2: done before.
- 27:35Speaker 4: They are very baseball savvy team and they're quietly taking
- 27:39Speaker 4: the AL by storm.
- 27:40Speaker 1: All right, guys. Um, I tell you, it's going to
- 27:43Speaker 1: be an interesting, uh, I guess I should have kind
- 27:46Speaker 1: of circled this one too, as far as a series
- 27:48Speaker 1: that I'm interested in saying, because it is going to be, um,
- 27:52Speaker 1: all right, your last hot take for this one, the
- 27:54Speaker 1: Rays and Eric, we'll start with you, the Rays and
- 27:56Speaker 1: the Yanks. What's your, what's your, what's your hot, what's
- 27:58Speaker 1: your X factor, I guess.
- 28:01Speaker 3: My X Factor? I got crushed because my X Factor
- 28:04Speaker 3: was somebody and they were like, that's not an X Factor.
- 28:07Speaker 3: So my hot take for this series, my hot take
- 28:12Speaker 3: is it's going to come down to a Spencer Jones
- 28:16Speaker 3: at bat or play in the field. That's going to
- 28:18Speaker 3: decide the series.
- 28:21Speaker 2: I'm sticking with Ben Rice.
- 28:23Speaker 4: If Ben Rice stays hot and Bellinger can find a
- 28:27Speaker 4: way to stay kind of even keeled, this Yankee team
- 28:30Speaker 4: will find a way to win this five-game series for sure.
- 28:34Speaker 1: All right. Are you taking them in five, or do
- 28:36Speaker 1: you think they get it done sooner than that?
- 28:42Speaker 2: It's hard.
- 28:42Speaker 4: I think they do win the series. I think they're
- 28:45Speaker 4: going to squeak one out in Tampa, and I could
- 28:47Speaker 4: see them winning in.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Four at home.
- 28:57Speaker 1: It is time for all smiles presented by Lorraine Co.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Those smiles. You guys are so beautiful when you show
- 29:02Speaker 1: your pearly whites. Look at that. Look at phrase. Great,
- 29:04Speaker 1: great smile. All the chiclets in a straight line. I
- 29:07Speaker 1: tell you who is smiling kids. That is Tori Lovello,
- 29:10Speaker 1: the skipper with the Arizona Diamondbacks. It has just been
- 29:13Speaker 1: announced that he is going to return. as the manager
- 29:16Speaker 1: of the Snakes on a two-year deal. So, Todd, we'll
- 29:19Speaker 1: start with you. Good for Torrey. He's a guy I
- 29:23Speaker 1: admire a lot in this game. Looks like he's coming
- 29:26Speaker 1: back for at least two more.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yeah, this is great.
- 29:29Speaker 4: You always want to reward good people. I like Torrey, too,
- 29:33Speaker 4: whenever I played against him or saw him around. Always
- 29:36Speaker 4: a great guy to talk to. I've heard nothing but
- 29:38Speaker 4: good things about the guy. This Diamondbacks team's got to
- 29:43Speaker 4: find a way they'll get going. I mean, listen, Marte,
- 29:46Speaker 4: where would they be if Marte, you know, absolutely or
- 29:50Speaker 4: just played some of those games, you know what I mean?
- 29:52Speaker 4: So not to take it out of that being the
- 29:55Speaker 4: only reason why they didn't make the playoffs. I think
- 29:58Speaker 4: it's going to be Devon. I think Torrey's going to
- 29:59Speaker 4: find a way to get these guys going and get
- 30:02Speaker 4: a little more jolt into them. I know that West
- 30:04Speaker 4: out there is tough with the Dodgers and the Padres.
- 30:09Speaker 4: So we'll see what they can do, what they can
- 30:11Speaker 4: come up with and try and make that wild card
- 30:13Speaker 4: next year. But congratulations to him and his staff. This
- 30:17Speaker 4: is really cool. Big reward again.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think he deserved it. I think
- 30:23Speaker 3: the opening and some of the rumors about him possibly
- 30:27Speaker 3: getting a job somewhere else, Seattle, there's an opening there.
- 30:30Speaker 3: You know, most likely Philly, there's going to be opening. So,
- 30:34Speaker 3: you know what? It's always nicer when you go to
- 30:37Speaker 3: contract negotiations to say, well, I could go here. How
- 30:42Speaker 3: much did you like me? And ironically, it all really
- 30:45Speaker 3: just runs parallel with Mike Hazen's contract, which I think
- 30:49Speaker 3: he signed before last season. And, So they're there together.
- 30:55Speaker 3: We know how great of friends they are. We know
- 30:57Speaker 3: the things they've been through in their life together. It's
- 31:00Speaker 3: well documented. And to me, I thought Torrey Lavella with
- 31:04Speaker 3: the stuff that he had to deal with, the fact
- 31:06Speaker 3: that he was in the West, had this team made
- 31:09Speaker 3: the playoffs, had they beaten the Phillies out, manager of
- 31:13Speaker 3: the year in the NL would have been a tough
- 31:16Speaker 3: competition between him and Pat Murphy because the Cattell Marte stuff,
- 31:21Speaker 3: I disagree with Todd. I think it did affect this team.
- 31:24Speaker 3: And I think it is on Cattell Marte to come
- 31:27Speaker 3: back next year and be like, you know what? I
- 31:30Speaker 3: got to change some things. Because I think Torrey Lavelle
- 31:32Speaker 3: did so many things to try to keep that together,
- 31:35Speaker 3: to try to keep the other 25 guys on the
- 31:37Speaker 3: roster saying, why are you spending so much time on
- 31:41Speaker 3: this guy? I know he's our superstar, but... And so, yeah,
- 31:45Speaker 3: good for the Diamondbacks for bringing him back. Good for
- 31:47Speaker 3: Torrey Lavelle for not saying, you know what? I'll just
- 31:50Speaker 3: take whatever you guys got. I'm sure there's some Good
- 31:53Speaker 3: negotiations till this finally got taken care of.
- 31:57Speaker 1: You're way nicer than me. I know that he's their superstar.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I know he has money tied up, but I would
- 32:01Speaker 1: cut bait with Cattell Marte and move forward without him
- 32:04Speaker 1: because there's 26 men in that clubhouse. It shouldn't all
- 32:07Speaker 1: be the focus on one guy just because he's your superstar.
- 32:10Speaker 1: This is not the first time Cattell Marte has pulled
- 32:13Speaker 1: these types of shenanigans. So Dan Wilson is gone. Joe Espada,
- 32:17Speaker 1: for all intents and purposes, is gone as well. But
- 32:21Speaker 1: it doesn't look like Torrey Lovello or the Diamondbacks need
- 32:25Speaker 1: to be looking for a new manager anytime soon. Yesterday,
- 32:28Speaker 1: Torrey spoke to the media about how he decompressed once
- 32:31Speaker 1: the season ended.
- 32:33Speaker 6: I took Monday, Tuesday, and part of Wednesday to just
- 32:37Speaker 6: answer zero questions. I mean, I had people in this
- 32:39Speaker 6: room text me. I apologize for not texting you back.
- 32:42Speaker 6: I just went radio silent. I just told myself I
- 32:44Speaker 6: had to, I had to emotionally unplug a little bit.
- 32:48Speaker 6: And I wanted, I wanted to just take time for
- 32:51Speaker 6: myself and my wife. We watched Ted Lasso first episode
- 32:56Speaker 6: to the last episode in two and a half days.
- 32:58Speaker 3: So that's where I was.
- 33:00Speaker 6: And when it came time to discuss it, you know,
- 33:03Speaker 6: I opened up the discussion with Mike and To me,
- 33:06Speaker 6: it was a situation that I wanted to be back here.
- 33:10Speaker 6: And both parties were interested in that, and I just
- 33:12Speaker 6: felt like it was the right thing to do. I
- 33:15Speaker 6: had a lot of emotion leading up to that last game.
- 33:18Speaker 6: I had a lot of thoughts leading up to that
- 33:19Speaker 6: last game. You guys can probably only imagine what it
- 33:22Speaker 6: had been like for me personally. Even though it wasn't
- 33:25Speaker 6: a personal situation, I wanted to make sure I made
- 33:27Speaker 6: it about the team.
- 33:30Speaker 3: I mean, it just shows how exhausted he was, in
- 33:32Speaker 3: my opinion.
- 33:33Speaker 2: We talked about it yesterday.
- 33:36Speaker 3: We talk about the travel. Oh, travel in the postseason
- 33:38Speaker 3: is so tough. Never have I ever met anybody who's like, oh,
- 33:42Speaker 3: I'm so exhausted in the postseason. You're running on this
- 33:46Speaker 3: natural adrenaline high that only gets exasperated, multiplied when you
- 33:52Speaker 3: get to the stadium. And then when the game starts,
- 33:55Speaker 3: you just start just– everything is just bubbling at a
- 33:58Speaker 3: different level. Think about that in Torrey's case where he
- 34:03Speaker 3: had to deal with all of this crap It would
- 34:06Speaker 3: have been exhausting if he had to deal with the
- 34:08Speaker 3: Quetel Marte stuff if they were losing, if they were
- 34:13Speaker 3: not a good team. They were trying to make the players.
- 34:15Speaker 3: They were pushing. Every game, he's like, who do I
- 34:20Speaker 3: need up here? Who's ready? He's definitely a very intentional manager.
- 34:24Speaker 3: That's why he's good at what he does. That's why
- 34:26Speaker 3: he gets a lot out of his roster. When you're
- 34:28Speaker 3: intentional and you put your emotions out there and you
- 34:32Speaker 3: invest in people, it's draining when you don't always feel
- 34:35Speaker 3: it come back to you. So good for him. Go,
- 34:38Speaker 3: go watch some Ted Lasso, maybe just the original series.
- 34:42Speaker 3: You know, I'll save my, I'll save my critiques for
- 34:47Speaker 3: another show on the last season, but tremendous. Ted Lasso
- 34:53Speaker 3: is actually a really, really good show to watch. If
- 34:56Speaker 3: you want to know how to be a coach of,
- 34:59Speaker 3: of men, of women, of, You know, kids, whatever it is,
- 35:04Speaker 3: because it's not about the X's and O's as much
- 35:06Speaker 3: as it's about the relationships.
- 35:09Speaker 1: It's all about managing personalities. And that's what you have
- 35:11Speaker 1: to do in part of the X's and O's and
- 35:14Speaker 1: putting together a lineup and those types of things. You
- 35:16Speaker 1: have to be a psychologist as well. And I think
- 35:18Speaker 1: Lovello is one of the best at doing that. You
- 35:20Speaker 1: talk to guys that have played for him. Todd, you
- 35:22Speaker 1: mentioned playing against him. They love the way that he communicates.
- 35:26Speaker 1: He's a straight shooter. And Tori Lavello, I just think,
- 35:29Speaker 1: is a good baseball guy. But you're right, Eric. They
- 35:32Speaker 1: do need to get past the hump and get further
- 35:35Speaker 1: into the season. All right, guys, baseball fans, it is
- 35:38Speaker 1: time to lock in. Lorraine Co. re-mineralizing pouches are nicotine-free.
- 35:42Speaker 1: They are made with powerful nootropics to keep you mentally sharp.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, while supporting your teeth, go to buylorraineco.com
- 35:52Speaker 1: and use FT10. at checkout for 10% off. We'll be
- 35:57Speaker 1: right back. It is time now to slap hands. Fabian Ardaia,
- 36:16Speaker 1: who writes for The Athletic, covers the Dodgers in conjunction
- 36:19Speaker 1: with our friend Katie Wu. The Dodgers will start Tarek
- 36:22Speaker 1: Skubal in game one of the NLDS. Multiple sources with
- 36:27Speaker 1: knowledge of the situation have told The Athletic. I have
- 36:30Speaker 1: heard this as well. So this is a choice. Carrick Scoble, obviously,
- 36:34Speaker 1: in game one. It looks like it's going to be
- 36:36Speaker 1: Blake Snell in game two. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Todd Frazier, in
- 36:40Speaker 1: game three. Do you like this? Do you like the
- 36:43Speaker 1: rotation if it is set up this way?
- 36:46Speaker 4: I thought you were going like his whole name, Yoshinobu Yamamoto,
- 36:49Speaker 4: Todd Frazier.
- 36:50Speaker 2: That would be a really cool name. Listen, what's your name?
- 36:55Speaker 4: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Todd Frazier. That just rolls off the tongue.
- 37:01Speaker 4: I don't care who they throw, honestly. They could throw Yoshimoto,
- 37:05Speaker 4: Todd Frazier, and I think they're still going to be fine.
- 37:07Speaker 4: This team is set for anything. They have, like you said,
- 37:12Speaker 4: embarrassment of riches. Their staff is really good. I love
- 37:15Speaker 4: Blake Snell. I absolutely love him on the mound. I
- 37:18Speaker 4: want him to be healthy. I think Skubal's the right
- 37:21Speaker 4: play here. See what he does. Get 12 to 15
- 37:24Speaker 4: strikeouts every game. What say you, Kratzy? Yeah, what say you? Dodgers,
- 37:30Speaker 4: watch out. This team gets hot at the right time,
- 37:33Speaker 4: and it's usually– wait, hold on.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Tomorrow. Okay. Ready to go.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Again, is Blake Snell the better choice over Yamamoto? Does
- 37:45Speaker 3: it line up better for rest? How is that? Tarek Skubal, 100%.
- 37:51Speaker 3: And for every team who's at home, every team who
- 37:54Speaker 3: has a struggle with their starting– Pitching in the postseason,
- 37:58Speaker 3: just everybody needs to know that Tarek Scuba was available
- 38:01Speaker 3: to all, to all this season in July. You knew
- 38:06Speaker 3: where you were in July. It's not like an off-season
- 38:08Speaker 3: acquisition where you had to pay him the full $ 30 million.
- 38:11Speaker 3: It's not like, you know, you had to give up
- 38:13Speaker 3: some of your prospects. But you know what? The best
- 38:16Speaker 3: team who everybody's all, wah, wah, the Dodgers, they went
- 38:20Speaker 3: and got him, and now he's their best pitcher. That's
- 38:22Speaker 3: why you throw game one. You throw your best pitcher.
- 38:24Speaker 3: That's why I'm confused. why Yamamoto is not out there
- 38:27Speaker 3: in game two, but hey, in Dave Roberts, you trust.
- 38:30Speaker 1: You would take Tarek Scoble over Yamamoto just in general
- 38:34Speaker 1: on principle, or you do think Scoble is better than
- 38:37Speaker 1: Yama overall?
- 38:41Speaker 3: Oh, man. I mean, I guess they've both shown that
- 38:48Speaker 3: they have, that, that, that they have, you know, given
- 38:52Speaker 3: up runs in the post season. I don't know. I can't,
- 38:55Speaker 3: I hate sitting on the fence, so I need to
- 38:58Speaker 3: have an answer.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah, get off. Scoop was better. I think Scoop was better. Why?
- 39:03Speaker 3: I'm going to say Yamamoto is better because he has
- 39:07Speaker 3: done it longer, but Yamamoto did give it up against
- 39:11Speaker 3: the Phillies last year in his one bad postseason start,
- 39:14Speaker 3: but I'm still going Yamamoto.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but he also posts every fifth or sixth day
- 39:18Speaker 1: and was going to come out of the bullpen in
- 39:20Speaker 1: the 18 inning game. And was the World Series MVP.
- 39:27Speaker 3: I mean, I chose, I don't know.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Easy, easy.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Homer. No, I'm just saying. He chose Scooble. You got real,
- 39:35Speaker 3: you put your.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Hair to the side. Hey, hey, did you see the
- 39:38Speaker 2: face that just came out of his mouth? Oh my God.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Sheesh, you got really angry, Alana. I don't know what happened.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Scott never gets this mad at me.
- 39:48Speaker 2: I love it.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Because his Mets are never in the postseason anymore. So
- 39:51Speaker 1: how could Scott get mad at you for this?
- 39:53Speaker 6: All right.
- 39:55Speaker 3: What? What?
- 39:56Speaker 1: What phrase?
- 39:57Speaker 4: What?
- 39:57Speaker 2: To button it up.
- 39:58Speaker 4: I saw Skubal live in Cleveland a year ago and
- 40:03Speaker 4: just blew me away. And I think he had, what,
- 40:06Speaker 4: 14 strikeouts. And it was just with no offense. Honestly,
- 40:10Speaker 4: now he has offense. That's why I give him the
- 40:12Speaker 4: upper hand of being mad. But listen, it's 1A, 1B,
- 40:15Speaker 4: and it's 1A, 1A. I don't care who throws first
- 40:18Speaker 4: for them. I would just– and, you know, what Lizardo
- 40:22Speaker 4: did to the Braves in five innings or whatever it was,
- 40:26Speaker 4: shut them down.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Another lefty that throws hard.
- 40:28Speaker 4: So I like Skubal starting game one.
- 40:31Speaker 2: I think that played a factor too. Not a big one,
- 40:34Speaker 2: but a little one.
- 40:35Speaker 1: This rotation is disgusting. I mean, it's good no matter
- 40:38Speaker 1: who you throw out there. I think it's going to
- 40:40Speaker 1: be good. Moving on, Joey Ortiz is progressing in the
- 40:42Speaker 1: right direction. Pat Murphy said he's still dealing with some pain.
- 40:46Speaker 1: This is from Kurt Hogue. But the Brewers are planning
- 40:50Speaker 1: on him being available. That would be a good thing, correct, gentlemen?
- 40:54Speaker 1: You want this guy?
- 40:58Speaker 3: He doesn't start every game. So, yes, you want him, but,
- 41:02Speaker 3: I mean, he's not going to– He's not going to
- 41:05Speaker 3: be out because you're going to have Cooper Pratt out
- 41:07Speaker 3: at second, Ortiz at third. But you know what? Yeah,
- 41:14Speaker 3: obviously you need him. I think the Brewers' superpower here,
- 41:19Speaker 3: the fact that they're the best team in the National
- 41:21Speaker 3: League statistically-wise, is their depth. So if their depth is
- 41:27Speaker 3: not intact, how do they run the best team out
- 41:32Speaker 3: there for all nine innings, all five games?
- 41:36Speaker 2: Spot on. Spot on.
- 41:37Speaker 4: You got to spend there, though, like camaraderie. You need
- 41:41Speaker 4: that type of dude in the bench, too. So, yes,
- 41:43Speaker 4: for sure.
- 41:44Speaker 2: All right.
- 41:44Speaker 1: This did not age well. John Clark, reporter for NBCS Philly,
- 41:48Speaker 1: tweeted this. Wouldn't see this many empty seats in Philadelphia
- 41:51Speaker 1: talking about the recent wild card matchup between the Braves
- 41:54Speaker 1: and the Titans. How about this? Ben Taylor had this
- 42:00Speaker 1: to say. You will this weekend.
- 42:02Speaker 3: I mean, tremendous.
- 42:06Speaker 4: Hey, Kratzy, I said it, though. I was watching this game.
- 42:10Speaker 4: I said it out loud to my son. I'm like, man,
- 42:13Speaker 4: there's just– I wasn't saying it demeaning, but I was
- 42:15Speaker 4: just like, there's nobody at these day games here. I
- 42:18Speaker 4: guess everybody's working.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah, somebody's got to make the money to pay for
- 42:22Speaker 1: the tickets. Goodness sakes.
- 42:25Speaker 2: For goodness– for John Golly gee, yeah, for sure.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Tell you what. Two o'clock games are not that easy
- 42:33Speaker 3: to get to. Come on, like, I don't care if
- 42:35Speaker 3: it's Atlanta– Philly, people were like, oh, we'll take a
- 42:38Speaker 3: day off, like all that stuff. I get it.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Different fan base.
- 42:42Speaker 3: But it's definitely different. Atlanta fans have seen a lot
- 42:45Speaker 3: of postseason. Atlanta fans will show up. Don't worry about it.
- 42:50Speaker 3: They'll be there.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Just like the Houston fans, they said. They're a little entitled, right?
- 42:55Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I tell you– That did surprise me a
- 42:58Speaker 1: little bit. I get it's an earlier game. I completely
- 43:00Speaker 1: get it. But Dykin Park had a lot of empty seats.
- 43:02Speaker 1: And I know people say it all the time about
- 43:04Speaker 1: Dodger Stadium. I get it. That stadium is an absolute
- 43:06Speaker 1: bitch to get in and out of, though, and the
- 43:08Speaker 1: traffic in L.A. is crazy. So I do get it.
- 43:11Speaker 3: They are at the Dodgers game. You just can't get
- 43:15Speaker 3: into your seat right from the start of the game.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Something is holding you up.
- 43:21Speaker 2: You've got to know Alana Rizzo. If you don't know Alana,
- 43:23Speaker 2: you ain't getting in, dawg.
- 43:25Speaker 1: It is insane. It is a very difficult park to
- 43:27Speaker 1: get in and out of. Guys, remember to check out
- 43:29Speaker 1: our White Sox merch, including our Celebrate for T-shirts. What
- 43:35Speaker 1: the hell? For Sean shirts.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Celebrate for Sean.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Thank you. Yeah, okay. Wow. Good thing I know how
- 43:43Speaker 1: to read. Sell a bit for Sean's shirts and all

- 43:50Speaker 1: merch all post-season long. Check it out. There's a ton
- 43:54Speaker 1: of really cool designs and new things there. So check
- 43:57Speaker 1: it out, FoulTerritoryShop.com. All right, Eric, it is time now
- 44:01Speaker 1: to see what you are wearing on your head.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Nice.
- 44:07Speaker 3: A little bit of, as AJ called it yesterday, Tom
- 44:11Speaker 3: Brady hat. This black hat. This black Rays, Tampa Bay
- 44:16Speaker 3: Rays hat, for everybody listening, it's so sick. It's got
- 44:19Speaker 3: a black ray rolling across the bottom. This series, in
- 44:23Speaker 3: my opinion, is going to be electric between the Yankees
- 44:27Speaker 3: and the Rays.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I agree. That's a nice hat.
- 44:29Speaker 2: I like it.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Not necessarily 312, but I do like that hat. Oh, yes,
- 44:35Speaker 1: of course.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Shocking. Shocking.
- 44:38Speaker 4: I just happened to find it. I just found this.
- 44:41Speaker 4: just crawling across the ground. I'm like, well, I might
- 44:43Speaker 4: as well wear it.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 44:45Speaker 1: That's pretty sick too, though. That's a nice hat. Let's
- 44:48Speaker 1: does a good job. I'm digging these hats.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. For sure.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Well, happy DS weekend, everybody. Enjoy all the different series.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Looking forward to seeing what happens over the course of
- 45:00Speaker 1: Saturday and Sunday. I believe Scott is back on Monday.
- 45:04Speaker 1: So for everybody here at foul territory, obviously Todd Frazier
- 45:08Speaker 1: or Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Todd Frazier, Eric Kratz, and our entire
- 45:13Speaker 1: Foul Territory crew. I'm Alana Rizzo. Have a great weekend, guys.
- 45:16Speaker 1: We'll see you on Monday. Take good care.
- 45:18Speaker 3: See you.
