- 0:17have other disabilities that make it difficult to read printed material.
- 0:24New bookmobile and new look attracts library patrons. By Jane
- 0:28Reid Kline, November fifth, twenty twenty five. A new book
- 0:32Mobil hit the streets of Washington County in July. But
- 0:35the mobile library has a new look that the library
- 0:38brings books the communities across the country. Washington County Public
- 0:42Library or WGPO director Sean Whitacre said the new book
- 0:47moll Bill was ordered last January and arrived in early July.
- 0:51Whitaker said that once the selection of books was loaded
- 0:54and organized, the bookmall Bill made its maiden voyage on
- 0:57July twenty third. Last week, a special run rapp was
- 1:00put on the book Mobil, giving it a fresh, inviting look.
- 1:04The wrap was designed by Matt Anderson of Lexington and
- 1:07applied by Monster Color. Whydaker said that the library saved
- 1:11money from the taxes received to purchase the new Book Mobil. Quote.
- 1:15We are focused on utilizing our funds for the community
- 1:18for a better library and better services, he said. Ken
- 1:22Ward is wcpl's outreach coordinator, better known as the Bookmobil Librarian.
- 1:27He selects the books and they are or regularly updated quote,
- 1:31especially the children's books which are in high demand and
- 1:34of quote. He said. The new book Mobil is stocks
- 1:37with over five hundred and fifty books to choose from.
- 1:40The WCPO Bookmobil travels to Willisburg and Maxville, along with
- 1:44stops in Springfield at Stansbury's Care Center, Springfield Nursing and
- 1:48Rehab head Start in Mommy Lynn's Daycare. Ward said he
- 1:53has reached out to a couple of locations in Frederickstown
- 1:56about adding a stop there, but has received no response. Quote.
- 2:00I would love to have a stop in the Burg
- 2:02end of quote, he said. Ward said stops for the
- 2:05Bookmobile must have ample parking for both the Bookmobile and
- 2:09those visiting the mobile library. Driving around Springfield by Jane
- 2:15Reid Climbs, November fifth, twenty twenty five, Love Them or
- 2:19Hate Them? The three roundabouts on Highway five fifty five
- 2:22in Springfield are here to stay. Since the installation of
- 2:26the roundabouts, area residents have expressed a variety of opinions
- 2:29and thoughts on the subject. The one most often voiced,
- 2:33especially early on, was how much we quote hate them.
- 2:36Residents also voice concerns about the safety of the roundabouts.
- 2:40Those feelings were loudly voiced as the plane was being
- 2:43developed and local residents were envisioning small roundabouts like that
- 2:47at Saint Catherine, or chaotic, difficult to navigate ones like
- 2:51driving around the courthouse in Bardstown. The Springfield roundabouts and
- 2:55those being installed in Lebanon aren't either. They are large,
- 2:58one lane and easy to traverse as long as everyone
- 3:00knows the vehicle in the circle has the right of
- 3:02way and those entering the circle must field. Now, the
- 3:06sentiment is changing as drivers get more comfortable and familiar
- 3:10with driving the roundabouts. Some area residents have even requested
- 3:14additional roundabouts at other hazardous intersections. As to the safety factor,
- 3:19there is no question. Prior to the installation of the roundabouts,
- 3:22when those three intersections were controlled with traffic lights. Danny Crouch,
- 3:27director of the nine to one to one Dispatch Center,
- 3:29said the county averaged about one point five reports of
- 3:32injury accidents per month, along with several non injury accidents.
- 3:37In the first year following the installation of the first
- 3:40two roundabouts, there have been no injury accidents at those intersections.
- 3:45Crowds said there have been some minor, non injury fender benders,
- 3:48but even those have decreased as drivers are becoming more
- 3:52familiar with driving the roundabouts. Central Kentucky Community Action Council
- 3:59Incorporated start Early Headstart will remain open with a line
- 4:03of credit from local bank. By Jane Recline November fifth,
- 4:07twenty twenty five. Central Kentucky Community Action Headstart and the
- 4:12Early Headstart www dot cky hs Dorg serves four hundred
- 4:21children and families across six Kentucky counties, including Harden, LaRue, Marion, Mead, Nelson,
- 4:29and Washington. KYHS is a federally funded preschool program, and
- 4:34the funding for operations ends October thirty one, twenty twenty five.
- 4:39With the federal government currently shut down, there are no
- 4:42funds being awarded or released from the federal government for
- 4:45KYAHS to cover expenses. Beginning November one, twenty twenty five,
- 4:50at a special call meeting of the Central Kentucky Community
- 4:53Action Council Board of Directors on October twenty seventh, the
- 4:57board unanimously voted to allow the agency to FI pursue
- 5:00a line of credit to keep normal Headstart and Early
- 5:04head Start operations until November twenty first. Central Kentucky Community
- 5:08Action Council is deeply thankful to Bobby Miles and People's
- 5:12Bank of Lebanon for stepping up to support our agency
- 5:16in this time of need. While this is welcome news
- 5:19for the children and families of Central Kentucky, this is
- 5:22not a permanent solution. If funding is not restored by
- 5:25November twenty first, it is very unlikely that Central Kentucky
- 5:29Community Action Council Headstart and Early Headstart programming will continue.
- 5:34Our sincere hope is that the federal government reopens soon
- 5:38so we can continue to fully support the children and
- 5:41families of Central Kentucky. WCS collaborates with UK next Gen
- 5:49to advance vision and mission work by Jane Reclimb November fifth,
- 5:54twenty twenty five. Educators and administrators from across the district
- 5:58came together on October third, a scheduled professional development day
- 6:02before the fall break, to engage in developing school based
- 6:06vision and mission statements in a session facilitated by University
- 6:09of Kentucky's Center for Next Generation Leadership representatives doctor Karen Perry,
- 6:15who serves as executive Director, and Susan Dougal, who handles
- 6:18Leadership Development. UK next Gen is a network of students, teachers,
- 6:23leaders and communities quote committed to upgrading educational systems to
- 6:28reimagine the learner experience of every student end of quote.
- 6:32According to its website, the network offers academies and programs,
- 6:37professional development, and other opportunities. Quote. In twenty twenty two,
- 6:42Washington County Schools launched a comprehensive strategic plan that included
- 6:46revisiting and refining the district's vision and mission, said Holly Elmore,
- 6:51who serves as a district's Chief Academic Officer. Quote. This
- 6:55process strengthened our collaboration and deepened our shared commitment to
- 6:58serving the community by proving an exceptional educational experience while
- 7:03commanding excellence for all. Now, entering the third year of
- 7:06our plan, we are partnering with schools across the district
- 7:09to craft individual vision and mission statements that reflect their
- 7:13unique communities. End of quotes. Quote. Building upon this foundational
- 7:17work of the Strategic Plan L three ILN and individualization
- 7:22for students, our schools are now developing site specific visions
- 7:25and missions that reflect their unique student populations. Will stay
- 7:29rooted in the shared values of cultivate, commit, and collaborate
- 7:33end of quote, said WCS Superintendent Doctor Robin Cochran. Quote.
- 7:38This grassroots effort ensures that every school community has a
- 7:41voice in shaking the educational experience and outcomes for thesis students.
- 7:45At the heart of this work is the Commander Ready Profile,
- 7:48which outlines five essential competencies that every Washington County student
- 7:52should master. One effective communication, two academic and intellectual engagement.
- 7:59Three community and civic responsibility for lawness and self advocacy.
- 8:04Five goal setting and achievement. End of quote. Cochrane continued, quote,
- 8:10This mission and vision development and refinement process is more
- 8:13than a symbolic exercise. It is a recommitment to the
- 8:17district's values and an investment in the future of Washington
- 8:19County students. Through this collaborative effort, schools are creating a
- 8:23clear and actionable pass forward that aligns with the Commander
- 8:27Ready Profile and responds to the evolving needs of both
- 8:30students and the community, while keeping our families at the
- 8:33center of our work. As this work continues, Washington County
- 8:36Schools remains focused on developing students who are not only
- 8:39ready for graduation, but for success in college careers and citizenship.
- 8:44End of quotes. Elmore said each school will continue to
- 8:48work with shareholders to establish a mission and vision that
- 8:51reflects their core beliefs and values for student learning. Quote
- 8:55this gives the school a silter by which it can
- 8:57make decisions that reflect a common goal, help tight by
- 9:00all end of quote. She said, State championship not the
- 9:07end for the marching Commander by Jane Lee Klein November fifth,
- 9:13twenty twenty five. They marched to the beat of talented drummers.
- 9:17At least that is what the judges say. In twenty
- 9:20twenty five band competition. The Washington County High School marching
- 9:25band has excelled this year and yet they have won
- 9:28multiple awards for best Percussion. But the awards and accolades
- 9:31didn't stop there. The band has been awarded Best color Guard,
- 9:35Best in Class, Best Overall, and many other awards throughout
- 9:39the season. Quote. This is the most decorated group I've
- 9:42worked with. End of quote, said band director Scottie Burns.
- 9:46The Marching Commander started the season by hosting a band
- 9:48competition for the very first time in many years. The
- 9:51host band does not compete in the competition they are hosting,
- 9:54but the experience set the stage for a great season
- 9:57of marching band competitions leading up to the Class one
- 10:00A State Championship. Competing against bans of all sizes from
- 10:04across the States, the Commanders have excelled the season. On
- 10:07September twenty at the band took home first place for
- 10:10Class one A at the Garrett County Competition. They followed
- 10:14that on September twenty seventh at the Taylor County Invitational,
- 10:17where WHS took top honors as Grand champions. Two weeks later,
- 10:21the Commanders were named reserve Grand Champions at the Barron
- 10:24County Invitational. October eighteenth was the regional competition, where the
- 10:28Commanders earned the Class one A Regional Championship. The next
- 10:32stop was the state competition, where the Commanders prevailed for
- 10:35the third time in four years, being awarded the Class
- 10:38one A State Championship. Quote. This year has been the
- 10:41smoothest I had said Burns because of the level of
- 10:45maturity of the group and of quote, the maturity level
- 10:48of these students and the leadership of our seniors and
- 10:51juniors has been second to non. Burn said, they are
- 10:53great top to bottom. I've never had to ask them
- 10:56to do anything. They've just taken on. This is the
- 10:59most student led group ire scene, and they not only
- 11:01push themselves, sometimes they push me. End of quotes. The
- 11:05band will be losing ten singiors at the end of
- 11:08the season, and Burn said he hates to see them go. Quote.
- 11:11Every year is a different set of players. He said,
- 11:14every kid is irreplaceable, but each season we are reloading.
- 11:18End of quotes. The season isn't quite over for the
- 11:21Marching Commanders. They competed in the Mid States Qualifying competition
- 11:25on Saturday, November first, and will be competing in Ohio

- 23:40The Bardstown Hot Tigers Call Up the Commanders by Jenna

- 23:53and five just couldn't get ahead of the Bardstown Tigers
- 23:56seven and three Friday night, with a final score of
- 23:59forty eight to seven for the game. The game started
- 24:02rather sluggish for both teams, yet before the first quarter
- 24:05could wrap, the Tigers were up fourteen to nothing. There
- 24:08were some strong plays from the Commanders, however, they just
- 24:11weren't able to get that leg up on the opposing
- 24:13team this time around. Rapidly succeeding into the following stanza,
- 24:18Bardstown pushed themselves further into the lead with a solid
