Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talks be follow
- 0:12Speaker 1: this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
- 0:16Speaker 2: A small myth busting exercise for you. The smalling things
- 0:19Speaker 2: aren't as bad as you might think. Business sales I'm
- 0:22Speaker 2: reading about those over the weekend are small and medium businesses.
- 0:25Speaker 2: The business sales are up, and they're up quite a lot,
- 0:27Speaker 2: twenty one percent. In fact, why would you buy a
- 0:30Speaker 2: business at a time like this? Eh? You know why?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Because life goes on and people have dreams, and those
- 0:36Speaker 2: dreams don't get buffeted about by fiscal uncertainty. There were
- 0:39Speaker 2: twenty seven thousand confidentiality agreement signed in the past year.
- 0:43Speaker 2: That's a lot of agreements for an average of eight
- 0:45Speaker 2: hundred thousand dollars. You can buy your dream. Values are up,
- 0:49Speaker 2: listings are up, demand is up. Demand is up more
- 0:52Speaker 2: than listing, so prices are holding and the returns multiple
- 0:54Speaker 2: is up as well. So a lot of people are
- 0:56Speaker 2: doing fine, Thank you very much. This is a nation,
- 0:59Speaker 2: of course, built on small businesses. And all these numbers
- 1:01Speaker 2: show is nothing's going to change it. Not a war,
- 1:04Speaker 2: not petrol, not an election, not the weather. If you
- 1:07Speaker 2: ran a pole and asked is it a good time
- 1:09Speaker 2: to buy a business, Like they ask is it a
- 1:11Speaker 2: good time to buy a major household item? You know
- 1:13Speaker 2: what the answer, You know what the answer would be,
- 1:15Speaker 2: and yet life goes on. Now for all the New
- 1:19Speaker 2: Zealand first supporters about to text me and say, oh,
- 1:21Speaker 2: it's all the Indians, save your twenty cents. It isn't
- 1:24Speaker 2: another myth busted. Nine point seven percent are Indians, fifteen
- 1:29Speaker 2: percent are Asians, So Chinese Koreans may be Filipinos, which
- 1:33Speaker 2: leaves sixty seven percent identifying as European. So the idea
- 1:38Speaker 2: that this is all about migrants buying jobs is not
- 1:40Speaker 2: the tsunami you thought it might be. These stats, I
- 1:42Speaker 2: think are a microcosm, or a small example of the
- 1:45Speaker 2: disconnect between study surveys, polls, politics and news headlines and
- 1:48Speaker 2: what's really going on. The rhythm of New Zealand. Life
- 1:52Speaker 2: gets buffeted about buy issues of the day, the petrol price,
- 1:54Speaker 2: the war, the spin you know who's spending here is?
- 1:57Speaker 2: I mean, why wouldn't it? But if you believe the
- 1:59Speaker 2: poles and the stats and the national conversation as driven
- 2:02Speaker 2: by the headlines, you'd think we're at home huddled up
- 2:04Speaker 2: in a corner, waiting for the end of the world,
- 2:05Speaker 2: and yet we are not. We are buying businesses, planning
- 2:08Speaker 2: the future, taking the risks, and God forbid, having a
- 2:12Speaker 2: good time. What a shock.
