- 0:56Speaker 2: us each day as Richard shares from God's Word notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 2: and stories, along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 2: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 2: his compassion for us never fails, and that he has
- 1:08Speaker 2: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 2: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 2: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 2: program anytime online at TalkNetworkRadio.com. Well now, here's Richard with
- 1:22Speaker 2: today's reflection.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I have been crucified with Christ. That is, in Him
- 1:30Speaker 3: I have shared His crucifixion. It is no longer I
- 1:34Speaker 3: who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I
- 1:39Speaker 3: now live in the body I live by faith, by
- 1:43Speaker 3: adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting in the Son
- 1:48Speaker 3: of God who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
- 1:55Speaker 3: That is from Galatians chapter 2 in verse 20 from
- 2:01Speaker 3: the Amplified Bible. Paul has made a statement in Galatians
- 2:11Speaker 3: that is very profound. What he is actually stating is
- 2:19Speaker 3: that he is living, but he is also crucified. How
- 2:26Speaker 3: does this happen? Well, he explained in the letter to
- 2:31Speaker 3: the church at Rome what it was that he meant
- 2:35Speaker 3: when he referred to being crucified, dead, and buried, and
- 2:41Speaker 3: then resurrected with the living Lord. But here he is
- 2:47Speaker 3: making a very strong statement. He basically is letting us
- 2:53Speaker 3: know that he is living but he is living a
- 2:59Speaker 3: life that no longer is based on what this world
- 3:07Speaker 3: or this life has to offer him. He is living
- 3:13Speaker 3: the life by faith, by adhering to, relying on, and
- 3:18Speaker 3: completely trusting in the Son of God, who loved me
- 3:25Speaker 3: and gave himself, up for me. This is a very
- 3:34Speaker 3: definitive statement, and we should look at it closely. This
- 3:42Speaker 3: is an element that we want to be able to discuss.
- 3:48Speaker 3: You know, we have looked in many cases where we
- 3:54Speaker 3: have already discussed some of the manifestations of the fullness
- 4:02Speaker 3: of the Spirit. As we have looked, we have seen
- 4:08Speaker 3: all of the representative gifts of the Spirit. And we
- 4:14Speaker 3: have also mentioned the fruit of the Spirit. A life
- 4:20Speaker 3: that is completely surrendered to the Holy Spirit will bear fruit. Now,
- 4:27Speaker 3: what we are referring to here is it will bear
- 4:32Speaker 3: those that have come to Jesus because of our being
- 4:39Speaker 3: used of him to draw others. And this, of course,
- 4:45Speaker 3: is what our primary focus is remaining on this earth.
- 4:53Speaker 3: In many cases, we are faced with whether or not
- 4:59Speaker 3: we are to continue here on this earthly plane. Paul
- 5:04Speaker 3: even stated himself that he would prefer to die, meaning
- 5:12Speaker 3: to go on to be with the Lord in its eternity.
- 5:17Speaker 3: He wanted to be able to address that, but he
- 5:20Speaker 3: said that it is better for him to remain here
- 5:26Speaker 3: in the body of so that he could continue to
- 5:29Speaker 3: be used of God to be able to teach and
- 5:34Speaker 3: to help others grow in Christ Jesus. I want us
- 5:40Speaker 3: to read in the book of Galatians something that is
- 5:45Speaker 3: very little taught within the present body of Christ. I
- 5:53Speaker 3: don't want us to miss that this is a parallel
- 6:00Speaker 3: position in Scripture. He is actually describing what is taking
- 6:08Speaker 3: place when the Spirit of God deals with the old
- 6:15Speaker 3: nature of man. And he says in the fifth chapter
- 6:23Speaker 3: of Galatians, I say then, beginning with the 16th verse,
- 6:31Speaker 3: Walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out
- 6:35Speaker 3: the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires what
- 6:40Speaker 3: is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is
- 6:44Speaker 3: against the flesh. These are opposed to each other, so
- 6:49Speaker 3: that you don't do what you want. But if you
- 6:53Speaker 3: are led by the Spirit, You are not under the law. Now,
- 7:00Speaker 3: I don't want us to get into the issue of
- 7:04Speaker 3: how he is speaking to Jews that would come to
- 7:07Speaker 3: know the Messiah, although this has a great deal of meaning,
- 7:12Speaker 3: but the thing that he is addressing here is what
- 7:17Speaker 3: we have been delivered from because we are crucified with
- 7:25Speaker 3: Christ Jesus, we now live a life by faith of
- 7:31Speaker 3: the Son of God who gave himself for us. But
- 7:37Speaker 3: he does spell out the works of the old nature.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And what he says beginning in the 19th verse is
- 7:46Speaker 3: the works of the flesh are obvious. And he names
- 7:51Speaker 3: them sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy,
- 8:05Speaker 3: outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing,
- 8:14Speaker 3: and anything similar, about which I tell you in advance,
- 8:19Speaker 3: as I told you before, that those feelings who practice
- 8:24Speaker 3: such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Now,
- 8:32Speaker 3: the reason that I'm bringing this into this particular study
- 8:38Speaker 3: is that it is important for us to know what
- 8:43Speaker 3: we have crucified. Because if we continue in these things
- 8:51Speaker 3: and remember, These are the works of the old nature.
- 8:57Speaker 3: This is what we have been delivered from, even though
- 9:02Speaker 3: there is a continual battle that is going on because
- 9:08Speaker 3: the Holy Spirit wants us to be free completely from
- 9:16Speaker 3: all of the subject of the flesh. Our old nature,
- 9:22Speaker 3: described as the flesh, is the leading that takes us astray.
- 9:31Speaker 3: It drives us into these things, sexual immorality. And I
- 9:38Speaker 3: want us to think today where these things are evident,
- 9:45Speaker 3: because the world is becoming very, very promiscuous. If you
- 9:51Speaker 3: look at everything that is showing here, it's saying these
- 9:56Speaker 3: are the works of the flesh, the old nature. the
- 10:00Speaker 3: unredeemed nature of man. Sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy,
- 10:14Speaker 3: outburst of anger, selfish ambitions are dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing,
- 10:23Speaker 3: and anything similar about which I tell you in advance
- 10:29Speaker 3: as I told you before that those who practice such
- 10:35Speaker 3: things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Now, in
- 10:43Speaker 3: our culture where we have been given much grace in
- 10:50Speaker 3: that we have been loved into a kingdom message that
- 10:58Speaker 3: in some ways does not preach deliverance from our own
- 11:06Speaker 3: old nature. Now, that's not to say that we're not taught,
- 11:12Speaker 3: but how is it applied? How do we continue to
- 11:18Speaker 3: surrender to the Holy Spirit daily? We must do that.
- 11:26Speaker 3: If we recognize that the desire to do the things
- 11:33Speaker 3: mentioned earlier is still evident, then we must confess that
- 11:42Speaker 3: and we must bring those thoughts back into subjection, into surrender,
- 11:51Speaker 3: if you will, to the Lord Jesus. The Holy Spirit
- 11:57Speaker 3: has been provided so that He will lead and guide
- 12:01Speaker 3: us into all truth. The Word of God is truth.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Jesus said, I am the truth. But He said, I'm
- 12:12Speaker 3: the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes
- 12:18Speaker 3: to the Father except through me. And so we have
- 12:23Speaker 3: this comparison. If we are looking at the works of
- 12:29Speaker 3: the flesh or the old nature, and they are evident
- 12:34Speaker 3: in our life, then an examination must take place. We
- 12:40Speaker 3: need to know, are we under the control of the
- 12:44Speaker 3: Holy Spirit? Or are we under our own control? You see, believer,
- 12:52Speaker 3: these are not just the things that are the influence
- 12:57Speaker 3: of the devil. There is an inner enemy. It is
- 13:03Speaker 3: our old nature. Our old nature is in many ways
- 13:09Speaker 3: stronger than that of the external influences of that can
- 13:14Speaker 3: be brought against us. Because it's difficult to die to
- 13:21Speaker 3: that old nature. We have a tendency to rationalize and
- 13:27Speaker 3: to justify the actions that we take. Because we can
- 13:34Speaker 3: even be deluded into thinking that we are actually doing
- 13:41Speaker 3: these things to glorify God. How can that be? Well,
- 13:46Speaker 3: let me give you an example. Earlier in my business career,
- 13:53Speaker 3: I was very strongly led to be used of God,
- 13:58Speaker 3: and I wanted to count for what He desired. And
- 14:05Speaker 3: I felt that He was going to give me great
- 14:09Speaker 3: opportunities to be used of Him. In the business world,
- 14:15Speaker 3: I thought that this meant that I would become a leader,
- 14:21Speaker 3: a achiever, one who could be looked up to. And
- 14:26Speaker 3: in many ways, this actually became the pattern of my
- 14:32Speaker 3: early business career. Because I was looking at the world system, thinking,
- 14:43Speaker 3: that God would honor it. And now I have to
- 14:48Speaker 3: explain the difference. I illustrate it in my own experience.
- 14:55Speaker 3: God is not interested in what we can do for Him. Listen, believer.
- 15:05Speaker 3: He is only interested in what He can do through us.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 15:15Speaker 2: But if you just joined us, you've been listening to

- 15:50Speaker 2: is Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread and printed by
- 15:53Speaker 2: Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard to wrap up
- 15:57Speaker 2: today's message.
- 16:01Speaker 3: You see, there's nothing we can do that will gain
- 16:05Speaker 3: any privilege with God. I'm not speaking of eternal rewards,
- 16:11Speaker 3: and I'm not thinking of what we would claim to
- 16:15Speaker 3: be those things that we have achieved as the works
- 16:20Speaker 3: in the body. I'm talking about doing things our way
- 16:26Speaker 3: to please God. That is a very tough spot, and
- 16:32Speaker 3: how do we find ourselves in the grips of the
- 16:37Speaker 3: work of the flesh. This is not something that we
- 16:43Speaker 3: can cover in one segment, but I want us to
- 16:47Speaker 3: understand there is a statement made that is very difficult
- 16:56Speaker 3: for many in this culture to receive. And that is,
- 17:02Speaker 3: he is stating that as he told them Now, that
- 17:08Speaker 3: is tough because we have been told that it is
- 17:10Speaker 3: not by works. It is by grace and through faith
- 17:36Speaker 3: in God that we are saved, and that is true.
- 17:41Speaker 3: We cannot work our way into heaven, but believer, we
- 17:46Speaker 3: cannot continue in the works of the old nature and
- 17:51Speaker 3: expect a heavenly reward. You need to understand, as I
- 17:58Speaker 3: need to understand, that if we exhibit Those things that
- 18:04Speaker 3: are described. Now, I'm not saying that we're sexually immoral.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I'm not saying that we aren't. I'm just saying that
- 18:12Speaker 3: that does not have to be the focus. But let's
- 18:15Speaker 3: look at what it says about selfish ambitions. What is that?
- 18:20Speaker 3: What are selfish ambitions if not wanting to exalt ourselves
- 18:27Speaker 3: so that God can be pleased? That's dangerous ground, believer.
- 18:34Speaker 3: And we will discuss more of that in tomorrow's segment.
- 18:39Speaker 3: And that is today's Reflection on the Word.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 18:47Speaker 2: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 18:50Speaker 2: Richard Kaye. For Richard and the entire team, this is

- 18:56Speaker 2: Reflections on the Word.

- 19:16Speaker 1: born unto me.
