- 1:40Speaker 7: one one.
- 1:40Speaker 2: University Drive in front of audio video.
- 1:43Speaker 8: Hey, welcome back to this portion of the program has
- 1:45Speaker 8: brought to you by the Dollar Floor Store. We're joined
- 1:48Speaker 8: in studio by Rusty Berson. I've been out of uh
- 1:53Speaker 8: uh contact, but not with Rusty uh. We we have
- 1:59Speaker 8: been in content contact over the weeks that I've been gone.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It hasn't been a great four weeks, Rusty, it's not
- 2:07Speaker 2: a great four weeks. It hasn't been a great days.
- 2:10Speaker 8: I don't know if you're listening, but I said before
- 2:13Speaker 8: we went to break, I thought they played really good
- 2:16Speaker 8: baseball against Tampa. Tampa's a really good baseball team, and
- 2:19Speaker 8: and I think they played really good baseball, and they.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Had a chance to win all three all three games,
- 2:24Speaker 4: and they know they won the first game, and then the.
- 2:27Speaker 8: Second was just and I thought that was the I
- 2:29Speaker 8: thought that that started the downfall because they remember, Tampa
- 2:34Speaker 8: made two incredible catches, every weird bounced break, every call
- 2:40Speaker 8: that happened was just like on the edge.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And that's that's again. But that's the difference in a.
- 2:47Speaker 8: Playoff team and not a playoff team at least right now,
- 2:50Speaker 8: because Tampa. You get those breaks, right, and Tampa made
- 2:54Speaker 8: a couple of those breaks. And I thought Tampa played good,
- 2:57Speaker 8: but I thought Texas played good baseball say that this weekend.
- 3:01Speaker 2: No, they didn't play in baseball this weekend. Uh, Saturday
- 3:05Speaker 2: night was okay.
- 3:05Speaker 4: But anyway, So what I think about that series is
- 3:08Speaker 4: the kind of the most bizarre game. The final game,
- 3:12Speaker 4: in the afternoon game, So mckimseiy's doors on the mount,
- 3:15Speaker 4: he gives up three hits.
- 3:16Speaker 2: That's it.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, three hits the whole game. Homberg double homer, homer,
- 3:21Speaker 4: double home, three to nothing first inning, a no hitter, right,
- 3:26Speaker 4: And did you know this. I don't know if you
- 3:28Speaker 4: heard this, but the Rangers had four doubles. So yes,
- 3:31Speaker 4: so so the Rangers had four doubles, no singles in
- 3:34Speaker 4: the game for the first time since twenty twelve. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 4: no singles. Crazy game both teams. I mean, what are
- 3:40Speaker 4: the odds of that that?
- 3:42Speaker 2: They are very slim?
- 3:43Speaker 4: And you know, the Rangers had chances late in that
- 3:45Speaker 4: game and they lost the one run game. But yet,
- 3:48Speaker 4: so what what's dis pointed about Houston was the way
- 3:51Speaker 4: evolved into gromd pitch, no doubt, because they.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Set it up. They did, they set they set it
- 3:57Speaker 2: up quite frankly, I.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Thought Rocker was pretty decent yesterday was yeah, I mean
- 4:01Speaker 4: he got doesn't have any defensive help.
- 4:04Speaker 2: No, no, not at all. I mean but cole Win,
- 4:07Speaker 2: my gosh, that guy just driving me crazy. Did you
- 4:09Speaker 2: see what he just was watching Burger make that play? Yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you're not. You might want to cover a slow roll.
- 4:19Speaker 4: And break Yesterday, like every single break, Evan Carter crushes
- 4:26Speaker 4: a ball right and they make a great catch. Taylor
- 4:31Speaker 4: Tremail makes a great catch.
- 4:33Speaker 8: Was it Osuna who made the play that brought the
- 4:35Speaker 8: ball back over the wall on Saturday?
- 4:38Speaker 2: That was Saturday?
- 4:38Speaker 8: That was That was a unbelievable play. All should have
- 4:43Speaker 8: won the game, actually unbelievable.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Cole Win has the wild pitch and Jordan give jord
- 4:49Speaker 4: On all the credit in the world for breaking on
- 4:51Speaker 4: there and scoring on a wild pitch that.
- 4:54Speaker 2: You can get every Yes, he did.
- 4:56Speaker 8: But I just I don't understand why they keep rolling
- 5:00Speaker 8: the baseball to your done.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I don't need a chip.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I don't said, I don't get that, but my hope
- 5:05Speaker 4: and I don't care what the same situation is.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I don't care if he's leading off at in it.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I was screaming Saturday night. All the fans around me,
- 5:13Speaker 2: walk him, walk him. They were laughing. I don't do it.
- 5:16Speaker 2: They didn't do it, So I don't get it. I
- 5:19Speaker 2: don't get it either.
- 5:19Speaker 4: You know what I'm gonna, I'm gonna make up of
- 5:21Speaker 4: comparisons to him. I'm and throw it out at you, okay,
- 5:23Speaker 4: because I mean, you've got more baseball experience than me.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Could you got a couple of years on me?
- 5:28Speaker 4: Right, I got a couple So in my lifetime, I'm
- 5:32Speaker 4: gonna throw out a few names I've seen on this
- 5:35Speaker 4: incredible streak, right, Okay, see what you think about this
- 5:38Speaker 4: Miguel Cabrera when he was absolutely in his rushing, just
- 5:43Speaker 4: almost couldn't get him out bonds, I mean, walk him,
- 5:49Speaker 4: get him out.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I mean, and he could keep a.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Ball in play that was like nearest chest right, he
- 5:54Speaker 4: could throw at him and he's still keep the ball.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Yeah, He's hit everything.
- 5:59Speaker 4: And then may maybe nowadays, I don't know, if you
- 6:02Speaker 4: throw Tommy in there, but it's too soon.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Maybe, I don't know.
- 6:06Speaker 4: I mean he's special, right, I mean he can do
- 6:08Speaker 4: some very us even if he never pitches again.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yes, I think he's just a real He's incredible. Yeah.
- 6:15Speaker 8: The role that that you're done is on is it's amazing.
- 6:19Speaker 4: So even Reggie Jackson would strike out a lot, right,
- 6:22Speaker 4: he would in those days strikeouts that you know, nobody
- 6:26Speaker 4: cared about it. Actually in those days they did well,
- 6:28Speaker 4: but you're right they did. But like Reggie Jackson was
- 6:31Speaker 4: a strikeout. He was an all or nothing. He wasn't
- 6:33Speaker 4: all or nothing guy. He killed the Rangers. He rose
- 6:37Speaker 4: was an incredible hitter, but he wasn't going to hit
- 6:40Speaker 4: for power very often.
- 6:41Speaker 8: I tell you, uh that I've told you this before.
- 6:44Speaker 8: The best hitter I ever saw was Tony Quinn. His
- 6:50Speaker 8: statistics just on on contact, walking, striking out or just
- 6:57Speaker 8: other worldly. He had the best and I coordination. I
- 7:01Speaker 8: guess you know.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I never.
- 7:06Speaker 8: I never got to see uh Boston Red Sox.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I'm going Ted. I never got to see Ted Williams.
- 7:15Speaker 8: I'm told that his hand eye coordination was unlike anyone
- 7:18Speaker 8: that's ever played together. Right, I think Tony gwyn was
- 7:22Speaker 8: right there. If you were gone would win the triple
- 7:24Speaker 8: crowd off.
- 7:25Speaker 2: The season ended today and Meggie was the last guy
- 7:27Speaker 2: to do it. I think. Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 4: So, I mean he's he is right now like Miggie
- 7:33Speaker 4: in his prime. And you know what another guy, since
- 7:37Speaker 4: you brought Tony Gwynn up, Luisa Rise, has that approach.
- 7:41Speaker 4: And I'm not saying he's anywhere near Tony, but I
- 7:44Speaker 4: love his approach.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I'm gonna get the battle of the ball. I'm gonna
- 7:47Speaker 2: put the ball in play. I'm not gonna overswing anything.
- 7:50Speaker 8: It's a It's so since you brought this up. What
- 7:54Speaker 8: we were praising the Rangers for just a week ago
- 7:57Speaker 8: was situational.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Hitting, right, and they were they were great.
- 8:02Speaker 8: They they did every in that homestand they did everything,
- 8:05Speaker 8: and they didn't.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Win all the games, but it took three out of
- 8:09Speaker 4: fourth Mariners. Yeah, and I mean they lost tow out
- 8:11Speaker 4: three White Sox, but I got you, Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 8: That that Mariners series, they were the best they've been
- 8:16Speaker 8: all year in my opinion, in situational hitting. And and
- 8:21Speaker 8: now as the pressure ratchets up they lose that one
- 8:26Speaker 8: game in Tampa, then I just feel like they've been
- 8:30Speaker 8: just hacking since.
- 8:31Speaker 2: The Burger is probably the worst of it. Yes, I
- 8:33Speaker 2: mean he's gone.
- 8:34Speaker 8: From like and and and you know, I know Siegar
- 8:37Speaker 8: had a couple of hits.
- 8:38Speaker 4: He had a couple struckouts, Yes, but he did, and
- 8:41Speaker 4: they're just wild strikeouts.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah, so left against him. He was swinging out, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 2: just chasing. He was looking to do something that he
- 8:51Speaker 2: wanted to put the team on his back instead of
- 8:53Speaker 2: getting the base hit and give it to the nice guy.
- 8:55Speaker 2: But he's capable of doing that. Yeah.
- 8:57Speaker 4: And Peterson had a bad day too yesterday, although he's
- 9:01Speaker 4: been pretty darmed.
- 9:02Speaker 8: I think I think they have given the chance Peterson
- 9:06Speaker 8: may have done something yesterday.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Why why are.
- 9:10Speaker 8: They questioning calls in the first four innings and running
- 9:14Speaker 8: out of.
- 9:15Speaker 4: That that's a good chance, good call, I mean, it's
- 9:17Speaker 4: a it's a good question from you because that was
- 9:20Speaker 4: a key moment. Then there's a huge moment, huge and
- 9:23Speaker 4: Nikki Lopez clearly took a ball. He did, but you're
- 9:27Speaker 4: out of challenges and you're out of town. Why skip
- 9:30Speaker 4: got tossed? Being there, my son filmed the whole thing.
- 9:35Speaker 4: He took a pause for God bless America. At least
- 9:39Speaker 4: he showed respect, and then he came right back out
- 9:43Speaker 4: and just was ripping on himself. Yeah, you can't you've
- 9:47Speaker 4: got to be careful of those those abs challenges, and
- 9:50Speaker 4: especially not to use them so early in the game,
- 9:52Speaker 4: because that's what I've.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Seen him used in the first inning before.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I have to and there's nothing on the line, nothing,
- 9:58Speaker 4: so it's like, well, you take it, bad call.
- 10:01Speaker 2: On the first so let me ask you it.
- 10:05Speaker 8: As much as I can tell, the managers have pretty
- 10:09Speaker 8: much given players free reign catchers.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I think they've cats.
- 10:16Speaker 4: I think they've got to pulled that back from I
- 10:19Speaker 4: think the Batters still have pretty much free rain, but
- 10:22Speaker 4: I think they've taken it away from the pictures for
- 10:23Speaker 4: the most part.
- 10:24Speaker 2: The pictures are the worst at it. Yeah, and so
- 10:27Speaker 2: they except for the kid from Boston last night. Oh yeah,
- 10:30Speaker 2: that was just that was crazy. He's terrible.
- 10:36Speaker 8: It was just down the middle and he's tapping his
- 10:40Speaker 8: eye never mightys go what are you doing?
- 10:43Speaker 2: It was just nuts.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Actually, So yesterday, to make a real long story is you.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Were you were at both games. You were at game
- 10:53Speaker 2: Saturday night.
- 10:54Speaker 4: And so we spent the night Saturday night because I
- 10:56Speaker 4: didn't want to drive back and then turn right back
- 10:58Speaker 4: around for an afternoon.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:00Speaker 4: So he went to game with some friends on Saturday night,
- 11:03Speaker 4: stayed the night and then my son and my daughter
- 11:07Speaker 4: in law met us at the game for Sunday afternoon.
- 11:11Speaker 4: So we get food through the game.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Four o'clock.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Well, my daughter and son in law were flying in
- 11:16Speaker 4: from a wedding internationally into inter continents.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Okay, so flight over there are supposed to come in
- 11:23Speaker 2: five feet.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Well they have to go through customs and then so
- 11:26Speaker 4: it's like six forty five and we get them and
- 11:29Speaker 4: then my son they wanted to meet my son and
- 11:32Speaker 4: daughter in.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Law a restaurant in Houston. So it just a long,
- 11:37Speaker 2: long day.
- 11:38Speaker 4: It would have been better at that to what Yes,
- 11:40Speaker 4: And so I walk into a restaurant in Houston, and
- 11:44Speaker 4: you know, of course they've got every one of the
- 11:46Speaker 4: waitresses wearing an Astros jerseys and they're like.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Hey, how'd the game go to that? Yeah, you just
- 11:52Speaker 2: lost your tip.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Anyway, Hey, I can't say anything like I said, I
- 11:59Speaker 4: texted my friend with a white flagged last night.
- 12:01Speaker 2: It's like, hey, nothing you can say.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Yeah, But like you said at the start, there is
- 12:08Speaker 4: I have no reason to really like hope that it's
- 12:12Speaker 4: going to change, but there's also no reason for it
- 12:14Speaker 4: not to.
- 12:15Speaker 2: In this division, So that's the thing I'm just going
- 12:18Speaker 2: to see.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I want to see what happens when they get Cody
- 12:20Speaker 4: Bradford back where they use him. Man, who is calc
- 12:24Speaker 4: Quintreill pitching to night? He's okay, Yeah, I like him
- 12:28Speaker 4: in long relief. But what happens if you get Jordan
- 12:32Speaker 4: Montgomery back, and you get Cody Bradford back, and then
- 12:36Speaker 4: a little ways down the road, if you get Jack Lyder.
- 12:39Speaker 4: You can use those guys in the bullpen and alleviate
- 12:42Speaker 4: some of those really bad leaders.
- 12:43Speaker 8: You can Sayider coming back would be a really big deal.
- 12:47Speaker 2: It would be.
- 12:47Speaker 8: But but you here's the thing. After guys have been
- 12:50Speaker 8: on the I L and especially long time back, it
- 12:54Speaker 8: takes time, you know. And it's Josh Well, look at
- 12:58Speaker 8: Josh Young. He was playing really good Bay. You know,
- 13:00Speaker 8: he was hitting everything. Well, now he's been out and
- 13:03Speaker 8: he's going to be out apparently according to the manager,
- 13:06Speaker 8: for a little while longer right on that calf issue. Man, Yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 8: I know, but you I can't expect him to come
- 13:13Speaker 8: back and just pick up where he left off.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Although it was kind of cool, you know, singer's hitting
- 13:18Speaker 2: what a buck eighty.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Two singer in his first that bat though, you know
- 13:21Speaker 4: Friday night, Yes, I had two hits on Saturday and
- 13:25Speaker 4: he did. I was like, so, I mean he's not
- 13:27Speaker 4: hitting for power yet, but I mean you're getting some
- 13:31Speaker 4: decent that bat.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I'll tell you what. Nicky Lopez has been a great,
- 13:35Speaker 2: fun unbelievable, I mean unbelievable.
- 13:38Speaker 4: He's been a really clutch performer for him, talk about
- 13:41Speaker 4: bat on ball.
- 13:42Speaker 2: So they got another relief. They got a reliever today
- 13:44Speaker 2: right from Toronto Maco. Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Right, and he's got five years of I mean club,
- 13:50Speaker 4: I mean they control him for five years. Yeah, whereas
- 13:53Speaker 4: Josh Smith probably needed a new start somewhere.
- 13:56Speaker 8: Yeah, and now you know, like he was really good
- 13:59Speaker 8: the last couple of years and surprisingly good.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Uh.
- 14:04Speaker 8: I hate how the how it ended. He got mendigitis.
- 14:07Speaker 8: For goodness sakes, I know, he was really sick.
- 14:10Speaker 2: That's a horrible thing.
- 14:12Speaker 8: And and never he wasn't real good before that, and
- 14:16Speaker 8: obviously coming out of that, you know, he couldn't hit.
- 14:19Speaker 2: The Rangers still won that trade.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Head up Joey Gallowa Joel Gallo for Ezekiel Duram. Yes,
- 14:24Speaker 4: I mean duran.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Is is in my mind behind Lats. The team MVP
- 14:30Speaker 2: that I'm with you there, Yeah, totally.
- 14:32Speaker 8: Yeah, he's been he's been phenomenally. He's played like seven positions.
- 14:36Speaker 2: He's the thirteen catchers. Yeah, I mean he's he's been
- 14:40Speaker 2: really good. Yeah, I mean he does some clutch things defensively.
- 14:43Speaker 2: You know, he's been good on both sides.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Faces were loaded yesterday. I think he made a really
- 14:49Speaker 4: nice play third, you know.
- 14:52Speaker 8: And yeah, no, he's he's been good. But like I said,
- 14:55Speaker 8: besides lats, he's he's the team MVP.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know what, Qui rang, I'm really glad
- 15:02Speaker 4: they didn't trade last because you you don't get anything
- 15:04Speaker 4: for a reliever. Let's see breaking news.
- 15:12Speaker 8: Yes, but I gotta I've got to educate standing with
- 15:15Speaker 8: a breaking news sounders.
- 15:16Speaker 2: That's okay, I will do that. Uh.
- 15:19Speaker 4: The Padres have acquired Casey Mice from the Tigers.
- 15:23Speaker 9: Wow.
- 15:24Speaker 2: The Tigers are just.
- 15:26Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 15:27Speaker 8: And that's the other thing that I said today, Rusty,
- 15:30Speaker 8: you don't just because it's a trading deadline, that don't
- 15:33Speaker 8: mean that you have to trade people.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I think that's a great point.
- 15:36Speaker 4: The Rangers made a fairly good trade last year, not
- 15:38Speaker 4: altering life altering by any means, but to get Demo
- 15:42Speaker 4: for sim In was a good trade for the Rangers. Yes,
- 15:45Speaker 4: And you can do that in the off season. You're
- 15:47Speaker 4: typically you get more value in the off season right
- 15:50Speaker 4: now than you do.
- 15:51Speaker 2: It's trade, I'll tell you what.
- 15:52Speaker 8: And I continue to go back to this, because the
- 15:55Speaker 8: Rangers defensively have not been clean. All your block and
- 15:59Speaker 8: and and and a lot of that is at at
- 16:04Speaker 8: second base. Yeah, you gave up. You gave up a
- 16:08Speaker 8: lot of defense, a gold Glove defender right for for
- 16:12Speaker 8: more offense and apparently for a really good presence in
- 16:15Speaker 8: the clubhouse. You know, Nemo, Cubs highly regarded.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Simon was very reserved. He was, he was, but man,
- 16:24Speaker 2: he was a great fielder. He was. And that's you know,
- 16:28Speaker 2: you've had a hole.
- 16:28Speaker 8: But you mentioned Lopez, who's been steady.
- 16:31Speaker 2: You know he has. It's just they haven't.
- 16:34Speaker 8: Played Cleanton baseball, among other things. And when you're five
- 16:37Speaker 8: hundred or right there and everybody's five hundred, you're talking
- 16:42Speaker 8: about some you know, wins and losses that are going
- 16:47Speaker 8: to be a really thin margin.
- 16:48Speaker 2: And I think Burger has been a liability for the
- 16:50Speaker 2: most part, no.
- 16:50Speaker 8: Doubt, he's been a big liability at first.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I mean he's a big gay with power, streaky hitter,
- 16:55Speaker 4: but he's not very versatile. No, he's not doesn't make
- 16:59Speaker 4: a lot of eight plays. I mean I thought Nathaniel
- 17:02Speaker 4: Lowe was a lot better defend he was, and he
- 17:04Speaker 4: didn't come in as a very good defender.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Right, but he he may work pretty good.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and he was pretty good defender twenty twenty three,
- 17:11Speaker 4: twenty twenty four. But you know, I mean obviously, like
- 17:14Speaker 4: we talked about earlier, he had the career year in
- 17:15Speaker 4: twenty twenty three.
- 17:17Speaker 8: So when you have Evaldi and and de gram who
- 17:22Speaker 8: who still have really good stuff, I don't you have
- 17:30Speaker 8: to keep them or are or get something you can
- 17:33Speaker 8: kind of get a starter from me.
- 17:35Speaker 2: You have to get and how do you do that? Yeah?
- 17:37Speaker 4: I think you have to go to the off season
- 17:38Speaker 4: see if you can get a starter the guy who
- 17:40Speaker 4: has the really good stuff. To me, it just so
- 17:43Speaker 4: frustrated Kinsey Gore. I mean, because like we talked about earlier,
- 17:46Speaker 4: he can throw it, he can throw it, and then
- 17:47Speaker 4: one inning, basically every single game, he has one inning
- 17:52Speaker 4: where he just goes loopy.
- 17:54Speaker 8: Like you know, I think Lighter has really good Rocker
- 17:58Speaker 8: does too. And Rocker has good stuff.
- 18:00Speaker 4: It's just getting the mover of the hump. And I
- 18:02Speaker 4: think Rockers made a lot of progress.
- 18:05Speaker 8: He's made a lot of progress this month. Okay, Racers
- 18:09Speaker 8: is not going to he'll drive you crazy.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Yeah he will. But he pitch pretty well.
- 18:13Speaker 8: I mean, he's made no problem with his last few starts.
- 18:16Speaker 4: He managed some difficult situations because the Astro's got some
- 18:21Speaker 4: really cheap hits yesterday, Yes, and he managed it and
- 18:25Speaker 4: nothing flusters him. It's one thing I like about him is,
- 18:28Speaker 4: you know, you see the emotions with Vivaldi and you
- 18:30Speaker 4: see a lighter Rockers like. He's pretty even so even yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 4: nothing seems so.
- 18:38Speaker 8: This is the second year that the Graham has really
- 18:42Speaker 8: not had a lot of issues, right right, I mean,
- 18:46Speaker 8: which is remarkable given his history. And I'm and they've
- 18:51Speaker 8: gotten innings from him, yep, you know.
- 18:53Speaker 2: They've gotten innings on Saturday Night.
- 18:55Speaker 8: But this year he's just given up long palls two really.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Especially in the first inning. It's just been so ridiculous.
- 19:05Speaker 4: I mean there, I don't think he still has it.
- 19:09Speaker 4: But for a while, like eighteen games into the season
- 19:13Speaker 4: at home, he had a nine ERA in the first inning.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Well I know that means you're giving up a run
- 19:19Speaker 2: like every other game. It's like, geez, I don't know,
- 19:25Speaker 2: and most of our home runs.
- 19:27Speaker 8: So the other thing I've I've read and I don't
- 19:30Speaker 8: disagree with when you see now what the Dodgers have
- 19:33Speaker 8: done again was scuball.
- 19:36Speaker 2: You pay five hundred money.
- 19:38Speaker 8: You're going to get a five hundred team, right. Yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 8: they's not forty million off the payroll this year, right,
- 19:45Speaker 8: and it shows I realized last year they weren't very
- 19:50Speaker 8: very good either.
- 19:51Speaker 2: No, they were eighty one and eighty one. Yeah, I
- 19:53Speaker 2: mean it's a five hundred team.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you're you're exactly right. It goes back
- 19:58Speaker 4: to you often you get what you pay for, not always.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Look what the Mets paid for continually. Yeah, and then
- 20:05Speaker 4: they just their fire sale today, right.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:08Speaker 4: So they're the Mets and they do that. And you know,
- 20:11Speaker 4: the the Yankees have spent a lot before and have
- 20:14Speaker 4: done well.
- 20:15Speaker 2: They have.
- 20:16Speaker 4: The Angels have spent more than anybody, and they have
- 20:19Speaker 4: like they sold today to they don't have any pieces left.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But right this old Soriano today who had a starter.
- 20:26Speaker 4: You know, it was a really good starter for them.
- 20:30Speaker 4: But yeah, most of the cases that means to me,
- 20:33Speaker 4: what amazes me about the Dodgers is that how they've
- 20:36Speaker 4: developed so many prospects drafting the late Yes, right, yes, because.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I don't envy. That's a good point. I don't dislike
- 20:44Speaker 2: the Dodgers because they got all this thing. I don't either.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I don't.
- 20:47Speaker 4: I don't hate it all because I salute them for
- 20:50Speaker 4: for evaluating.
- 20:52Speaker 2: And I just said, look, the people that are mad
- 20:55Speaker 2: write a check. Oh, we don't have the money. We're
- 20:58Speaker 2: not in that market.
- 20:59Speaker 8: I'm gonna pull everybody's got money because the TV, you know,
- 21:03Speaker 8: everyone has a stack of chips to play with us.
- 21:06Speaker 2: What are you going to do with them?
- 21:08Speaker 8: And the Dodgers have obviously what well, they've outspin everybody. Well,
- 21:12Speaker 8: you know what, so did the Mets, as you mentioned,
- 21:14Speaker 8: so of the Yankees, as you mentioned.
- 21:16Speaker 2: That doesn't buy you titles.
- 21:19Speaker 8: You've you've you've got to develop, you've got to manage,
- 21:22Speaker 8: You've got to create, uh some some clubhouse chemistry.
- 21:27Speaker 2: And I realized that and you got to be creative.
- 21:29Speaker 2: You have to be creative. The whole thing is so creative.
- 21:33Speaker 4: With a contract that did Yeah, and then again, so
- 21:36Speaker 4: like I remember when Walker Bruhler was their number one prospect, untouchable.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yes, well they let him go after after he'd done
- 21:43Speaker 2: his time. Seeger was untouchable earlier. Well, they didn't resign
- 21:46Speaker 2: him because they didn't need because they had the prospects
- 21:48Speaker 2: coming up.
- 21:49Speaker 4: And that's the way you build them. He's like, so
- 21:52Speaker 4: the Astros built a dynasty with great draft picks.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Yes, they did.
- 21:56Speaker 4: They haven't been able to keep them. Now, they're still
- 21:58Speaker 4: pretty good team. They haven't fallen off tremendously. But the
- 22:03Speaker 4: windows closing, I mean, they weren't able to retain all
- 22:07Speaker 4: those guys, the Tuckers and the Springers, the guys that
- 22:10Speaker 4: made them that twenty seventeen and twenty two teams that
- 22:14Speaker 4: were so dominant.
- 22:15Speaker 8: I just saw And it may have been Evan Grant
- 22:19Speaker 8: who wrote this, but this happens every year. When a
- 22:22Speaker 8: team wins, the price goes up, Right, when a team
- 22:28Speaker 8: wins a lot, then the price of the players goes
- 22:32Speaker 8: up and he goes for whatever reason, owners he don't
- 22:39Speaker 8: like it, right, and it's like, well, are you building
- 22:43Speaker 8: a team to win or you're not building a team
- 22:45Speaker 8: to win? Because the Dodgers payroll is outrageous, right, yeah
- 22:49Speaker 8: it is.
- 22:49Speaker 2: But they structured it.
- 22:52Speaker 8: But not only they structured it, but they as you mentioned,
- 22:57Speaker 8: they've developed around the core, continuing, they continue to bring
- 23:02Speaker 8: players in and they continue to be successful. And again,
- 23:06Speaker 8: if all it took was to write a check, then
- 23:10Speaker 8: somebody would have challenged them by now, because people are
- 23:14Speaker 8: spending money.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and to a degree, the Rangers philosophy when they
- 23:19Speaker 4: went in to build that twenty twenty three World Series
- 23:21Speaker 4: is I'm gonna go spend a lot of money.
- 23:22Speaker 2: On course, eager Marcus Simmons, Jacob and.
- 23:25Speaker 4: They did, and they did, and we're gonna hope some
- 23:27Speaker 4: of these young pieces Adules Garcia around, Jonah him, you know,
- 23:32Speaker 4: the guys we've already talked about, Nathaniel Lowe.
- 23:35Speaker 2: We hope that they come back in Leodi Tavers, those
- 23:38Speaker 2: kind of guys. Leodi had a great year that year.
- 23:39Speaker 4: That was the only year did But I mean in
- 23:43Speaker 4: like all the little pieces that came together.
- 23:46Speaker 8: Did you see the lineup I sent you from twenty twelve, Yeah, and.
- 23:50Speaker 4: You know what I almost sent you back though. That
- 23:52Speaker 4: one was an incredible lineup. It was I think is
- 23:55Speaker 4: as good as Nice seven ninety nine.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Those team.
- 24:00Speaker 4: One of those guys like Kevin Elster was batting three
- 24:03Speaker 4: hundred and number nine.
- 24:04Speaker 8: I can go back to some teams in the seventies
- 24:08Speaker 8: were losing ninety games, and you're going, how did this
- 24:11Speaker 8: team lose like that?
- 24:12Speaker 2: They were unbelievable.
- 24:14Speaker 4: I heard an interesting stat about Rangers leadoff hitters.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Okay, so you've been around the Rangers a long time.
- 24:22Speaker 4: So Jock Peterson has more leadoff home runs for the
- 24:25Speaker 4: Rangers this year than anybody since. To be big towel, no,
- 24:31Speaker 4: that's a good guess. You have to go further back,
- 24:33Speaker 4: further back than not to be big down a guy
- 24:35Speaker 4: who was in his rookie year, Oh, good gosh, leadoff, leadoff. Yeah,
- 24:42Speaker 4: he didn't stay leadoff. Mickey Rivers, he didn't stay lead off. Now,
- 24:47Speaker 4: Mike Hargrove, no way, seriously, the human reign delay, human
- 24:51Speaker 4: reiin delay battle leadoff during his rookie year and he
- 24:54Speaker 4: had he had seven leadoff home runs that year.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I think Peterson's got six this year or something like that.
- 25:01Speaker 4: But yeah, good gosh, not your traditional leadoff hitter, ain't
- 25:05Speaker 4: gonna steal you any bases.
- 25:07Speaker 2: But hey, Jack.
- 25:09Speaker 8: Peterson is not your traditional leadoff hitter.
- 25:11Speaker 2: No, he's not. I mean there's no speed. Hargrove and
- 25:15Speaker 2: Peterson had about the same speed, didn't that.
- 25:17Speaker 4: And that's the other thing you know there this You
- 25:21Speaker 4: you look at Burger, you look at Peterson and a
- 25:23Speaker 4: couple of these guys and and just athletically it doesn't
- 25:30Speaker 4: look right. Yeah, well one of those guys is gonna
- 25:33Speaker 4: be first base pretty much every night. And it's just
- 25:36Speaker 4: not there's not a lot of athleticism over there.
- 25:39Speaker 8: And they they have gotten production, I will say this,
- 25:44Speaker 8: you know they they in terms of runs produced. RBI's
- 25:50Speaker 8: some pop from the from that position.
- 25:52Speaker 4: I'll tell you another They've been very fortunate with another
- 25:55Speaker 4: guy at least Diaz.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Oh, that guy has been really good.
- 25:58Speaker 8: But he's the one that did that the too early abs.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Yes he did.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I'm mad at him for that.
- 26:04Speaker 4: He's been pretty good except for but he is and
- 26:07Speaker 4: he hasn't been real good on on those abs.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Is either, I will say this, not as good as
- 26:13Speaker 2: Higgy was. He was really good at those And he's hurt, right, Yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 2: he's hurt. Is he out? I don't think he's out permanently.
- 26:20Speaker 4: But here's a question, is like they traded for o'hoppy
- 26:25Speaker 4: and they still got Austin Wins.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I don't understand why they got.
- 26:29Speaker 8: Wedgs and Wedgs is in the lineup again to not No.
- 26:32Speaker 8: Ninety one, he's in the lineup. They've already posted the lineup.
- 26:35Speaker 8: But but what was significant about that? Evan posted the
- 26:38Speaker 8: lineup and I realized that it could change. But the
- 26:43Speaker 8: bottom line is all all the guys that you're hearing
- 26:46Speaker 8: that could be, you know, quote traded, they're all in
- 26:50Speaker 8: the lineup tonight against San Francisco. So that that tells
- 26:54Speaker 8: me that unless something really weird happens. And the trade deadline,
- 26:59Speaker 8: by the way, ended twenty five minutes ago, but that
- 27:01Speaker 8: doesn't mean there there aren't trades that haven't been announced
- 27:05Speaker 8: or haven't been made usually.
- 27:06Speaker 2: For like an hour after at least at least all Right,
- 27:09Speaker 2: we're going to take a break.
- 27:11Speaker 8: Rusty person is here, presented by Intech on Mondays uh Se.

- 32:02Speaker 8: This Monday edition with Rusty Urson is brought to you
- 32:06Speaker 8: by in Tech. We thank you for being with us
- 32:09Speaker 8: on this Monday. Uh Bucky Ball had took its game
- 32:14Speaker 8: to the Bahamas for a few days.
- 32:17Speaker 2: I don't understand all these rules.
- 32:18Speaker 8: I know they open it up for summer stuff and
- 32:21Speaker 8: you can I don't know if you can only do
- 32:23Speaker 8: that once every so many years, Rusty.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I can't keep up. I can't.
- 32:28Speaker 8: I can't either keep up with all the rules.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I remember Bill Kennedy took some teams over to Europe.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Remember that?
- 32:34Speaker 4: And uh yeah, ever so often I think you can
- 32:36Speaker 4: do that maybe once every three years.
- 32:39Speaker 8: Okay, I mean it's a good place this second. They're
- 32:42Speaker 8: making two trips with Bahamas this year.
- 32:44Speaker 4: Yeah, or within iil we can just afford to take
- 32:46Speaker 4: their own provice, yets, I mean can't they.
- 32:50Speaker 2: I don't know if they're getting paid that much. PJ.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Haggerty is making more than Lebron James, that's all that.
- 32:56Speaker 4: I didn't see that, Like, are you serious that. I
- 33:00Speaker 4: don't know if it's factual, but I saw the statistic
- 33:03Speaker 4: of all these college players who were going to be
- 33:05Speaker 4: making more because Lebron took like such a reduced inkame
- 33:08Speaker 4: to go to Philly, right, No, because.
- 33:10Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Yes, go to Philly. Yeah, it's been the winner in Philly. Yeah,
- 33:14Speaker 4: no thanks, But anyway, there's a number of college players
- 33:17Speaker 4: who were making more than Lebron this year.
- 33:19Speaker 8: Well, he scored sixteen today. Yeah, he's going to score
- 33:23Speaker 8: the ball.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Good? Yeah, how many minutes played? Nineteen minutes?
- 33:28Speaker 4: Sixteen points in nineteen minutes? No, no, I beg your pardon.
- 33:32Speaker 4: He played more minutes than anybody. He played twenty five
- 33:35Speaker 4: minutes today. Okay, he was oh for three from three
- 33:39Speaker 4: point land they were seven for twenty three from three. Okay,
- 33:45Speaker 4: uh not just horrible, not great.
- 33:48Speaker 2: And they played Duke, right, they did not play Duke.
- 33:54Speaker 8: They played they played Victoria.
- 33:58Speaker 4: That's not Victoria Texas, says Victoria, British Columbia.
- 34:02Speaker 8: That's correct, that's not Victoria Texas.
- 34:04Speaker 2: But it could have been Victoria High.
- 34:07Speaker 8: Let's see Victoria if they had a big score. They
- 34:11Speaker 8: got a goat at nineteen. So they had.
- 34:16Speaker 2: One, two, three, four, five.
- 34:18Speaker 8: Six, seven players in double figures today. Now Haggarty Inbacco,
- 34:24Speaker 8: how do you do? Imbaco was the leading score was
- 34:27Speaker 8: seventeen points. He had four rebounds, two of them offensive rebounds.
- 34:35Speaker 8: A and M out rebounded the Victoria Colonials.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I don't know what they are.
- 34:41Speaker 8: Forte twenty six offensive rebounds. So that's good. So Imbaco
- 34:51Speaker 8: went seventeen. Haggarty had sixteen. Nico Mundy I don't know him.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I don't know him either, well, he had fourteen points.
- 35:04Speaker 2: I haven't I need to look him up. Absolutely the rest.
- 35:08Speaker 2: I've heard of.
- 35:09Speaker 8: Jamie Vincent, who was a great get from Texas by
- 35:12Speaker 8: the way, showed.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Flashes last year. He's athletic. You can't coach tall.
- 35:16Speaker 4: You cannot teach six or ten or eleven. He's long, yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 4: and athletic and athletic.
- 35:22Speaker 2: He had thirteen with five boards. That's good. Zach Clementz
- 35:27Speaker 2: had thirteen. He's he needs to be right in that
- 35:31Speaker 2: range every game. Yeah, with four boards.
- 35:34Speaker 8: They had twenty four assists, just ten turnovers.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Have about Shelley, No, it's not Shelley.
- 35:46Speaker 8: Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait, I'm getting there.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Jalen Reese, Yes, Reese. Jalen Reese had no points. He
- 35:55Speaker 2: was zero for four.
- 35:58Speaker 8: He had a rebound and five assists and one turnover.
- 36:04Speaker 8: So you'll take that five assystemsracial every time, right with
- 36:09Speaker 8: your point guard.
- 36:10Speaker 2: He's a past first guy. Correct. He played twenty minutes. Okay,
- 36:16Speaker 2: I like you. How about I like you too? Shelley,
- 36:19Speaker 2: very athletic kid from Dallas.
- 36:21Speaker 4: Correct had twelve with four boards to assists, but four turnovers.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Okay, A and M had eleven.
- 36:31Speaker 8: Steals and they turned over Victoria twenty four times. So
- 36:40Speaker 8: you know, I mean they were ahead comfortably the whole way.
- 36:43Speaker 8: They were head, you know, by twenty fourth to half.
- 36:47Speaker 4: The second half the second half they tied fifty two
- 36:53Speaker 4: to fifty two. That's some points being scored, right, yeah,
- 36:58Speaker 4: I mean that's that's some points ped he likes to score.
- 37:03Speaker 2: He does now tomorrow.
- 37:06Speaker 8: It's the Toros del Vallier from Colombia, the Colombia Cartels.
- 37:13Speaker 2: No, no, it's.
- 37:17Speaker 4: That's you make Columbia Missouri. It's not Columbia Missouri. Okay,
- 37:21Speaker 4: it is not Columbia Missouri. But you can watch the game.
- 37:27Speaker 2: On follow Amazon on Amazon Prime on the floor of
- 37:32Speaker 2: flow sports Live. See, I think you gotta pay for that. Yeah,
- 37:36Speaker 2: I'm sure you do.
- 37:37Speaker 4: So I did the flow sports for baseball remember oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yes,
- 37:41Speaker 4: I remember when you did that. They played up in
- 37:44Speaker 4: Orleans and yeah, and I got to watch and play UCLA.
- 37:47Speaker 2: I got to watch him.
- 37:48Speaker 4: So I played, and you paid for that. It was
- 37:50Speaker 4: like basically it was like twelve bucks a game.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Wow, that seems so well.
- 37:56Speaker 4: I mean it was cost me a lot less than
- 37:58Speaker 4: actually driving up there going down.
- 38:00Speaker 2: He games like, you know, no doubt.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Buy beers and stuff like that. So I did it,
- 38:06Speaker 4: and then they tried to charge me for the next month.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Did you eat at Mendon made at diekon yesterday? I
- 38:12Speaker 2: did not. You know what.
- 38:13Speaker 4: We went to a little uh, we went to a
- 38:16Speaker 4: really nice place, okay, something that Irma's Southwest.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah, outside the stadium. Oh yeah, Saturday, and then we.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Had breakfast at our hotel. Okay, on Sunday we had
- 38:27Speaker 4: a late breakfast. Okay, so I just didn't want it, really, yeah,
- 38:31Speaker 4: I got it, didn't I did?
- 38:32Speaker 2: Hermas has come as well recommended. Was it good? It
- 38:35Speaker 2: was good. We both got like shrimp tacos. It was good. Okay.
- 38:38Speaker 2: They were not cheap. Yeah, I wouldn't expect them to be.
- 38:41Speaker 9: Now.
- 38:41Speaker 4: We sat at the bar because you had to have
- 38:43Speaker 4: a reservation to sit inside. Wow, okay, otherwise you could
- 38:46Speaker 4: sit outside before the game.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah. It was like we got over there early. I
- 38:51Speaker 2: mean okay, we got over there five o'clock and so okay,
- 38:55Speaker 2: they had a spot for us at the bar. All right.
- 38:57Speaker 2: We enjoyed it nice, Okay. That was the best about
- 39:00Speaker 2: the whole trip, the shrip tacos. Yes.
- 39:04Speaker 8: Yeah, Well, so tomorrow's four o'clock matchup, and I'm sure
- 39:10Speaker 8: we'll get They have live you know, scoring.
- 39:13Speaker 2: And all of that stuff.
- 39:14Speaker 8: So I think you can do two four, six, eight, ten, twelve,
- 39:21Speaker 8: fourteen players played.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Today. Good, that's what these games are.
- 39:26Speaker 8: Four four Chris McDermott got five minutes in the score.
- 39:31Speaker 8: He got four points and two boards.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Good for Chris. So there you go. Yeah, good for Chris.
- 39:38Speaker 2: I don't know who Nico Monday is.
- 39:40Speaker 8: I gotta looked at it. I got to figure that out.
- 39:43Speaker 8: You need to look that at our.

- 40:01Speaker 8: on him, because I don't know anything about relationships not
- 40:07Speaker 8: spelled to same. And he didn't apparently rip the American flag.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Away from anybody, punched them exactly. Heye, did you see
- 40:18Speaker 2: the Mexican League run down?
- 40:20Speaker 4: No? Oh, it was awl So he tagged him too
- 40:25Speaker 4: hard during a rundown.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Wasn't that hard, But the guy the rundown just turned
- 40:28Speaker 2: around and slugged the he had like a rookie odor
- 40:32Speaker 2: third base. Oh, it was every bit as good as
- 40:34Speaker 2: rukie n in between third base and home plate. So
- 40:40Speaker 2: he took exception to the tag. He didn't want me
- 40:43Speaker 2: tagged down.
- 40:46Speaker 8: And a brawl no fans came out.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Okay, I'll find that guardians and somebody.

- 42:27Speaker 3: It was a rough weekend for the Texas Rangers as
- 42:29Speaker 3: they were swept by the Houston Astros, with the latest
- 42:32Speaker 3: being a seven to three defeat yesterday. The Astros jumped
- 42:35Speaker 3: out quickly with the run of the third, followed by
- 42:37Speaker 3: two and the fourth for a three to nothing advantage,
- 42:39Speaker 3: but Texas did battle back, playing two in the fifth
- 42:42Speaker 3: and tying the game in the seventh with the Brandon
- 42:44Speaker 3: Neimo home run.
- 42:46Speaker 7: And here's a ball driven deep to right field, Brandonnimo,
- 42:49Speaker 7: did you Yes, you did, second deck for Brandon Nimmo.
- 42:55Speaker 7: His eleventh home run of the season, ties this game
- 42:58Speaker 7: of three.
- 42:59Speaker 3: The tie that would be short lived, as the Oustros
- 43:01Speaker 3: responded for four runs of their own in the bottom

- 44:10Speaker 2: Well, the Eggies are playing, though they are.
- 44:11Speaker 8: Playing six y three freshmen out of Washington, d C.
- 44:17Speaker 8: From Prince George's Christian Academy. Last year averaged twenty one
- 44:23Speaker 8: a game, shot forty four percent from the field forty
- 44:26Speaker 8: percent from three point range, A three four star prospect,
- 44:35Speaker 8: sixty three one eighty five twenty one point seven points,
- 44:39Speaker 8: three rebounds, one point two steals per game.
- 44:44Speaker 2: So there you go, there you go.
- 44:47Speaker 8: Uh and today I was looking at he was two
- 44:52Speaker 8: for three from the three.
- 44:54Speaker 2: All right, So there you go.
- 44:55Speaker 4: I'll take it if he If he can hit sixty
- 44:59Speaker 4: six percent of his three point shots this year, that's
- 45:01Speaker 4: your what high school math there, Richardson, Richardson, not that, Okay,
- 45:06Speaker 4: I'm telling you. If he can shoot sixty six percent
- 45:09Speaker 4: from three point land, I think.
- 45:12Speaker 2: I think they're gonna be pretty good. He can play.
- 45:14Speaker 2: I think he can play.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Yeah, especially since they're playing Duke today, So well, what's.
- 45:19Speaker 2: It, Duke.
- 45:20Speaker 8: Don't get confused. It's just Victoria. But hey, they're playing yep,
- 45:24Speaker 8: they're playing football starts this week.
- 45:28Speaker 2: They report, Oh wow, yeah, oh so you know what
- 45:31Speaker 2: I got. I gotta tell you this.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Because you're a radio guy, you'll appreciate this. I listened
- 45:36Speaker 4: occasionally to the Dallas for or sports radio. Yes, well,
- 45:40Speaker 4: I mean there's several of them, but I listened to one, O, five, three, Okay,
- 45:43Speaker 4: I listened to him throughout.
- 45:45Speaker 2: It's kind of hack. That's the flagship for the Rangers, right.
- 45:48Speaker 4: So I have it on a lot of times background
- 45:50Speaker 4: while I'm working doing stuff, you know. So it's like
- 45:52Speaker 4: a lot of time to do it, building website stuff,
- 45:54Speaker 4: and so I don't really have to be totally focused in.
- 45:57Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Yeah, so I always have it in. So I think
- 46:00Speaker 4: I heard the worst radio segment I ever heard today.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Uh oh, So the Cowboys had their first padded practice today. Yes,
- 46:07Speaker 4: and they had two guys out there commenting on the
- 46:11Speaker 4: plays like it was almost play by play for practice.
- 46:14Speaker 2: But you understand this is Dallas, right, Yes, and I'm like,
- 46:18Speaker 2: it's driving me crazy. It's the trade now. They did
- 46:20Speaker 2: a lot of trade deadline to talk today. Yeah. But
- 46:23Speaker 2: it's always amazing to me.
- 46:24Speaker 4: It's like the Cowboys are have not been to a
- 46:28Speaker 4: super Bowl in thirty years, and they haven't won more
- 46:32Speaker 4: than one playoff game in thirty years, and it doesn't matter.
- 46:37Speaker 2: I mean, so two days they're out theres comenty live
- 46:40Speaker 2: on this thing.
- 46:41Speaker 8: CNN is doing a show called Decades and Sports, So
- 46:47Speaker 8: they had the last night was the seventies. I went
- 46:51Speaker 8: back and watched the sixties. So what was what was
- 46:55Speaker 8: interesting about that is they they did the major sports
- 46:59Speaker 8: high lights for those decades, right when it was Olympics
- 47:03Speaker 8: didn't matter the sports, just things that stood out. So
- 47:07Speaker 8: you said you watched the sixties. I watched the sixties
- 47:09Speaker 8: and the seventies. There are an hour long shows. So
- 47:13Speaker 8: what stood out. One of the things that that stood
- 47:17Speaker 8: out was the Steelers, you know, playing the Cowboys, and
- 47:22Speaker 8: they had Drew Pearson commenting and and it was just
- 47:27Speaker 8: it was painful to watch, yep, because those were the
- 47:31Speaker 8: days I was living and dying with the Cowboys and
- 47:35Speaker 8: watching to.
- 47:37Speaker 2: The Cowboys leads me too.
- 47:39Speaker 8: Oh my god, that that still Jackson Ice the Ice Bowl. Yeah,
- 47:46Speaker 8: well that was those Steelers in seventy five game, right.
- 47:49Speaker 2: No, actually that was the next one. That was the
- 47:51Speaker 2: next one.
- 47:52Speaker 4: Okay, So Super Bowl ten was the one where the
- 47:54Speaker 4: lyn Swan, the lyn Swan one.
- 47:56Speaker 2: That was the.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Game.
- 47:58Speaker 8: Yea, yeah, Lynch Lynch Swan game.
- 48:01Speaker 2: That was an AstroTurf that was in Miami, Miami. That
- 48:05Speaker 2: was in Miami. Yeah, uh, it was. It was brutal
- 48:08Speaker 2: to watch. Benny Barnes and Cliff Harris still can't break
- 48:11Speaker 2: that up. You know what nobody could.
- 48:14Speaker 8: I mean, that was just and Drew Pearson just said,
- 48:17Speaker 8: you know, it was just he beat us, you know,
- 48:20Speaker 8: he just he beat us. And and and it was
- 48:23Speaker 8: like Bradshaw's throwing it up and he's just going and
- 48:27Speaker 8: getting it and it didn't matter. People were hanging on
- 48:30Speaker 8: him and and and he made it look so elegant,
- 48:36Speaker 8: you know, just this and these hands and this how
- 48:40Speaker 8: he torqued his body.
- 48:41Speaker 2: And it was just the.
- 48:43Speaker 4: Steelers had the intimidation factor to Jack Lambert was a
- 48:46Speaker 4: Lambert guy.
- 48:48Speaker 8: Mean, Joe Green he was well, but men, Joe Green
- 48:51Speaker 8: wasn't that mean right?
- 48:54Speaker 2: You're right? He was on the field, he was, he was.
- 48:57Speaker 4: But I mean Jack Lambert with a toothless like scow
- 49:00Speaker 4: at you. I mean those guys, Oh yeah, they were bad.
- 49:04Speaker 4: They were something of the Steel curtain.
- 49:05Speaker 11: Man.
- 49:06Speaker 2: They were bad men. They were really really intimidating that
- 49:09Speaker 2: they were.
- 49:10Speaker 8: They won, They won four and six years.
- 49:12Speaker 4: I remember watching them play the Vikings in the Super
- 49:15Speaker 4: Bowl and that was in Houston.
- 49:17Speaker 2: They wasn't that the game in Houston at Rice Stadium? Yeah? Yeah,
- 49:21Speaker 2: I just drove by there last week.
- 49:23Speaker 8: I was at a doctor's visit and I told my wife,
- 49:27Speaker 8: I said, man, I'm miss coming to Rice Stadium, you know,
- 49:29Speaker 8: because it was it was an old fashioned stadium in
- 49:33Speaker 8: the best sense of the word. They had great sight lines.
- 49:36Speaker 8: I called games from there. I covered games, you know, A, A,
- 49:40Speaker 8: and M would be there. I went as a fan there.
- 49:44Speaker 8: I love that stadium. I said, can you believe that
- 49:46Speaker 8: stadium hosted a Super Bowl?
- 49:48Speaker 2: Because there's no parking. It's right in the middle of Houston,
- 49:52Speaker 2: right in the middle of the Rice campus.
- 49:54Speaker 4: And I said, can you believe that this stadium hosted
- 49:57Speaker 4: a Super Bowl? I covered a several high school games there. Yeah,
- 50:01Speaker 4: in that monstrous stadium. Yeah, and you had like two
- 50:04Speaker 4: thousand people studded Rice, right.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Yeah. You had the mob band and that's about it.
- 50:09Speaker 8: I love the mob band. I just loved the mom
- 50:13Speaker 8: they were created.
- 50:14Speaker 4: They were so good, they were very very they were
- 50:17Speaker 4: just back to your seventies.
- 50:19Speaker 2: So the Steelers.
- 50:20Speaker 8: So the Steelers, you know that that kind of stood
- 50:23Speaker 8: out as a team that had been terrible for fifty
- 50:27Speaker 8: years and then won four Super Bowls and you know
- 50:29Speaker 8: six years uh, those were you know, not not great memories.
- 50:34Speaker 8: The immaculate reception against Oakland. I remember exactly where I
- 50:39Speaker 8: was at my grandmother's house, you know, because it was
- 50:42Speaker 8: it was right before Christmas.
- 50:44Speaker 2: I believe.
- 50:46Speaker 8: Uh. The sixties, of course they had the Ice Bowl,
- 50:50Speaker 8: and they always talk about the Ice Bowl, you know,
- 50:54Speaker 8: but what they don't talk about it was a much
- 50:57Speaker 8: better game in the Cotton Bowl. You know that that
- 51:01Speaker 8: thirty four to twenty seven game was just heartbreaking.
- 51:08Speaker 2: It was heartbreaking, you know. So our ears are a
- 51:11Speaker 2: little different.
- 51:12Speaker 4: So the seventies I remember very well, and I remember,
- 51:16Speaker 4: of course, I remember the Cowboys beating the Broncos and
- 51:18Speaker 4: that was a huge deal in my lifetime.
- 51:20Speaker 2: In seventy seven, yeah, yeah, so it was a year
- 51:23Speaker 2: after they lost to Steelers and they in.
- 51:26Speaker 4: An Orange crush and Harvey Martin was I still see
- 51:29Speaker 4: him hitting Craig Morton, you know. And so Harvey Martin
- 51:33Speaker 4: and had Too Tall Jones were co MVPs that day.
- 51:37Speaker 4: But what broke my heart was the eighties and how
- 51:41Speaker 4: close they were three years in a row. It's like
- 51:45Speaker 4: the Eagles, the Redskins, and of course the Niners.
- 51:48Speaker 2: I mean Niners was the killer.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Oh Drew Pearson was so close to breaking the tackle
- 51:54Speaker 4: at the end after Dwight Clark's catch right, yes, I mean,
- 51:58Speaker 4: so it just if you had.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Oh, he was so close, the guy gotten by the jersey.
- 52:02Speaker 8: Andy White was that close to being up one of
- 52:05Speaker 8: the legendary cowboy quarterbacks, a hero, and you know.
- 52:09Speaker 2: He didn't play well against the Redskins. Great great punter
- 52:13Speaker 2: by the way, Oh fantastic, I mean, and a really
- 52:17Speaker 2: good guy.
- 52:18Speaker 4: Yeah he you know, three years in a row they're
- 52:21Speaker 4: in an NFC title game, and the course after that
- 52:23Speaker 4: they disappeared, and then they had the nineties, which I
- 52:27Speaker 4: was still really into. So I was too the Jimmy
- 52:31Speaker 4: Johnson the era, you know when they came back, and
- 52:34Speaker 4: you know, I was really interested in watching jim I
- 52:37Speaker 4: remember the first year of Jimmy.
- 52:39Speaker 2: It was pretty hard to watch, right.
- 52:40Speaker 4: You can get over there on your asthma fields, right,
- 52:43Speaker 4: get over there and have your asthma.
- 52:46Speaker 2: But you know when they got the thing rolling, like
- 52:49Speaker 2: Mike Leach with Craig james Son.
- 52:50Speaker 4: Yes, yes, And so once they got that thing rolling though,
- 52:54Speaker 4: and the trades they made, the heirschel Walker trade. Will
- 52:57Speaker 4: never forget just all the players they got him and had.
- 53:01Speaker 4: Jerry just left it alone, just not gotten, so drunk
- 53:05Speaker 4: that he couldn't handle Jimmy getting more attention. That team
- 53:10Speaker 4: would have won at least they won more. Yeah, I
- 53:13Speaker 4: think that they would have lost. They lost one in.
- 53:16Speaker 8: The transition, but it made Switzer.
- 53:18Speaker 2: No, Switzer won. Switzer won one.
- 53:21Speaker 4: He beat the Steelers, right, but that team beat the
- 53:25Speaker 4: Steelers right well yeah, yeah, oh yeah, I think that
- 53:28Speaker 4: they could have won like at least maybe they might
- 53:30Speaker 4: have won five.
- 53:31Speaker 2: It really good. Oh, they were so good in those.
- 53:34Speaker 8: Days before all of the cap stuff and all all that.
- 53:37Speaker 8: Their second team could have won a super Bowl exactly.
- 53:40Speaker 8: They were just loaded.
- 53:43Speaker 2: But Jerry just got his ego just had to get
- 53:46Speaker 2: in the way.
- 53:47Speaker 8: Going back to the sixties real quick, is those those
- 53:53Speaker 8: two games that they lost to Green Bay. And they
- 53:55Speaker 8: talked about the merger right during the sixties. By the way,
- 53:59Speaker 8: today is Lance Allwards eighty sixth birthday, Bambie Arkansas's best,
- 54:06Speaker 8: the great Lance alwork.
- 54:08Speaker 2: He was phenomenal.
- 54:09Speaker 8: Anyway, I digress, But they talked about the Super Bowl.
- 54:12Speaker 8: They had Lamar Hunt up there. They talked about the merger.
- 54:15Speaker 8: They talked about Joe Willie of course, and and winning
- 54:20Speaker 8: that Super Bowl when when everybody thought because the first
- 54:25Speaker 8: two years the Packers just you know, they crunched Kansas City.
- 54:29Speaker 8: That was a really good Kansas City team that ended
- 54:31Speaker 8: up winning a Super Bowl, right, and they crunched Oakland,
- 54:34Speaker 8: and everybody goes, well, that's what we thought was going
- 54:36Speaker 8: to happen, you know, because the AFL was quote that
- 54:39Speaker 8: was an inferior league, right, right. But then Joe Willie
- 54:43Speaker 8: comes along at Beach Baltimore, you know, and that and
- 54:48Speaker 8: everything changed.
- 54:49Speaker 2: Everything changed is Super Bowl three.
- 54:51Speaker 4: So, speaking of which, I got one book. I want
- 54:54Speaker 4: to throw it out, okay out to you. So it's
- 54:56Speaker 4: called The King of Diamonds. It's about the diamond thief
- 55:00Speaker 4: in Dallas in the fifties and sixties, robbing like high profile,
- 55:07Speaker 4: like the Nemon Marcus really, Clinton Murchison really, Oh, I
- 55:11Speaker 4: think you would love this. Is it new, it's relatively new.
- 55:15Speaker 4: It's Rena Peterson, who was a I know that name.
- 55:19Speaker 4: She was a reporter, Yes, at the Dallas Times, Yes,
- 55:22Speaker 4: And I know that name. The King of Diamonds is
- 55:25Speaker 4: one way. Okay, I read that recently. I thought, Okay,
- 55:28Speaker 4: Chip would love this.
- 55:29Speaker 8: I'm reading a book on Larry McMurtry right now, which
- 55:32Speaker 8: is really interesting.
- 55:34Speaker 2: I bet i'd be really interesting. But I just think
- 55:36Speaker 2: you would love that.
- 55:38Speaker 4: That sounds like a book because you would know basically
- 55:40Speaker 4: everybody they're talking about, all the neighborhoods in Dallas, Yes,
- 55:45Speaker 4: and this guy would was on the inside.
- 55:47Speaker 2: They never found it seriously seriously, and so he was
- 55:50Speaker 2: so on the inside.
- 55:51Speaker 4: He would know where the parties were and he would
- 55:55Speaker 4: rob the folks who were going.
- 55:56Speaker 2: To the party while they were gone.
- 55:58Speaker 4: And he must have been one to an athlete because
- 56:01Speaker 4: he was climbing in windows.
- 56:03Speaker 2: He was like the pink panther burglar very much. So
- 56:06Speaker 2: look it up. Look it up. I'll send you a
- 56:08Speaker 2: link to it.
- 56:09Speaker 4: All right, I'm back for a while. Thanks, thanks for
- 56:13Speaker 4: holding down the fort.
- 56:15Speaker 2: You bet, Nico Monday.
