- 6:24by Pastor Naomi feeling weak and poor. The saying let
- 6:29the week say I am strong comes from Joel three ten.
- 6:33Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears.
- 6:38Let the week say I am strong. This verse is
- 6:41part of a prophecy where God calls the nations to
- 6:44prepare for a great battle. The Book of Joel primarily
- 6:48focuses on God's judgment and restoration. In chapter three, God
- 6:52speaks about gathering the nations for judgment in the Valley
- 6:55of Jehosephad. The call to turn farming tools into weapons
- 7:00signifies an impending war. When God says, let the weak
- 7:04say I am strong. It's an encouragement for those who
- 7:07feel powerless to rise with courage, though weak in the
- 7:10natural sense, there being strengthened by God's purpose spiritually. This
- 7:15verse has been used to encourage believers to proclaim strength
- 7:19even when they feel weak. It aligns with New Testament
- 7:22teachings such as Corinthians twelve nine through ten, where Paul says,
- 7:27and he said, unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee.
- 7:30For my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly.
- 7:34Therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the
- 7:38power of Christ may rest upon me. This means that
- 7:41when believers acknowledge their weakness, they can rely on God's
- 7:45strength to sustain them. Understanding the saying let the poor
- 7:48say I am rich unlike let the weak say I
- 7:52am strong. The phrase let the poor say I am
- 7:54rich does not appear verbatim in the King James version
- 7:58of the Bible. However, its messages reflected in several scriptures,
- 8:02particularly in Second Corinthians eight nine. For ye know the
- 8:07grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich,
- 8:10yet for your sakes he became poor. That Ye, through
- 8:13his poverty, might be rich. This verse highlights the spiritual
- 8:18riches that believers receive through Christ. Though Jesus was rich
- 8:22in divine glory, he humbled himself and became poor, taking
- 8:26on human form and suffering, so that through his sacrifice
- 8:29believers could inherit the riches of his grace. What great
- 8:34encouragement your strength and riches lie, and the tender mercies
- 8:37and loving kindness of God that has bestowed upon you
- 8:40every morning you are not walking life alone. Colossians three
- 8:45sixteen and seventeen says, Let the Word of Christ dwell
- 8:49in you richly, in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another,
- 8:53in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace
- 8:57in your heart to the Lord. And whatsoever you do
- 9:00in word or deed, do all in the name of
- 9:02the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father
- 9:05by him. What great strength you will find as you
- 9:10search out the rich word of God. Yes, in every task,
- 9:13every step, every decision, every situation, every dream, Let the
- 9:17rich Word of God strengthen you, for to day it
- 9:20will be your rich strength in all you do or say.
- 9:23As you do it all in the name of the
- 9:25Lord Jesus Amen, So be it. Life on the Old
- 9:30Dirt Road by Bobby Thorpe The Big Snows. Growing up
- 9:37in the seventies, eighties and nineties, I saw several huge snowstorms.
- 9:41I can remember coming home from school on some days
- 9:43and taking a nap. By the time I woke up,
- 9:45we would have several inches of snow on the ground. Immediately,
- 9:51my brother and I would call up some family and
- 9:53friends and go sledding, intertubing and igloo building. If there
- 9:58weren't enough sleds and inter tubes to go around, we
- 10:00would find an old cardboard box and instantly we had
- 10:02another sled. In my childhood, our crew would make snow angels,
- 10:06and if they were made at night, while the snow
- 10:08was still falling, one could look into the sky and
- 10:10it was like flying through the stars. When the snow
- 10:14would cause the electricity to go off, we could set
- 10:17the milk and some of the frozen foods out on
- 10:19the back porch and cover them with snow to keep
- 10:21them cold so they wouldn't thaw and spoil. The best
- 10:24part was when my parents would go outside and get
- 10:27a bowl of snow and make snow cream. I recently
- 10:30found a recipe online for the delicious snow treat. Some
- 10:34memorable snows I recall were the blizzard of nineteen ninety three,
- 10:37or more than two feet of snow fell, heavy winds
- 10:40and thirty below zero wind chills which paralyzed eastern Kentucky,
- 10:44and the snow storm of January nineteen ninety four, where
- 10:47eighteen inches of snow fell along with sub zero temperatures.
- 10:52Nearly twenty years went by before we would see heavy
- 10:54accumulation of snow again. This was in the last five years,
- 10:58and around fifteen inches of snow fell followed by sub
- 11:02zero temperatures. This winter weather brings back many memories of
- 11:06growing up on the old dirt road. Bobby's recipe for
- 11:10snow cream is four cups of fresh snow, one cup
- 11:14of milk or cream, one quarter cup of sugar, and
- 11:17one teaspoon vanilla extract. Revisiting canoe in the Middle Fork Valley.
- 11:24The head waters of the Middle Fork originates at the
- 11:27base of Pine Mountain in Leslie County. As it meanders
- 11:31in a northwestern direction through Leslie County, its tributaries and
- 11:35communities bear such names as Hell for Certain, Greasy Creek,
- 11:39Thousand Sticks, Cut Shin Size, Rock Cinda Confluence, Hyden, Toulouse,
- 11:46and Wendover. As it continues on north, it touches into
- 11:50Perry County near Buckhorn, where during the nineteen fifties its
- 11:54turbulent waters were checked by a huge earthen dam that
- 11:57has harnessed its potential for flooding, as it did in
- 12:00the historic flood of nineteen fifty seven. As it enters
- 12:04Breathett County near Buckhorn, its major streams and communities bear
- 12:08such names as Long's Creek, named for the famous Kentucky
- 12:11long Hunters who perished there, Crockettsville named for Davy Crockett,
- 12:16who allegedly visited there, Turners Creek after Revolutionary War veteran
- 12:20Roger Turner Canoe, an Indian canoe was found in its
- 12:23mouth Old Buck, Turkey Creek, Bryant's Creek, Lower Twin Creek, Oakdale,
- 12:30and Chenawee, And as it entered Lee County at atholl
- 12:34In Saint Helens, where it merges with the Kentucky River
- 12:37at Beatyville Canoe Creek. The place of my birth is
- 12:40about two miles long. Its main tributaries are the Joe
- 12:44Little Fork, Middle Creek, Onion Pen Branch, Stamper's Fork, and
- 12:48Buzzard Fork. During my childhood, Canoe Creek was infanously, infamously
- 12:53noted for drinking gambly and prone to acts of violence.
- 12:57Your writer could name a dozen or more who were
- 12:59friends or neighbors who met an untimely and violent death.
- 13:03During this period, Canoe Creek was heavily populated, requiring two schools,
- 13:09Canoe in Arawood that had almost as many students enrolled
- 13:12as Highland Turner, which encompasses all of the Breathett County
- 13:15portion of the Middle Fork Valley today. Today, only the
- 13:18Joe Little Fork of Canoe is thickly populated. Missus Patsy Turner,
- 13:24the daughter of former Virginia slave owner, came as a
- 13:28Presbyterian missionary worker and spent over sixty years at the
- 13:31Canoe Presbyterian Church, where a Christian boarding school, a clinic
- 13:35that offered medical care, and a good Will clothing store
- 13:39for the needy was established. Her profound impact and influence
- 13:43reached across three generations, not only at Canoe, but also
- 13:46across the entire Middle Fork area. She reached the unbelievable
- 13:51age of one to five before passing away. The missions
- 13:56and schools established by Confederate Civil War veteran Edward o'gerrant
- 14:01at Buckhorn, Highland, Canoe and Morris Fork and other mission
- 14:05outreach programs had a profound influence on the lives of
- 14:08all whom they touched. Unfortunately, today, the void left by
- 14:11the demise of such dedicated leaders and their institutions as
- 14:15Harvey Murdoch of Buckhorn, the Vandermeres of Morris Fork, Missus
- 14:20Patsy Turner of Canoe, and Cowa's other dedicated mission workers
- 14:23has left the Middle Fork Valley diminished in many respects.
- 14:27Only at Oakdale does the Methodist ministry of the last
- 14:30Elizabeth E. O'Connor continued to be implemented. Some of the
- 14:34early settlers of Breathitt County in the Middle Fork Valley,
- 14:38where the Turners, Heralds, Spicers, Jets, Arrowoods, Sebastians, Comb's, Macintoshes,
- 14:45Deetons and Stampers. Many were motivated to move through the
- 14:48Cumberland and Pound gaps due to the Revolutionary War, either
- 14:51obtaining military land grants or for being persecuted for signing
- 14:55with the British being the case with the Deatons, who
- 14:57were known as Storries. Many had Indian blood coursing through
- 15:02their veins and disappeared into the Kentucky Wilderness from North Carolina, Tennessee,
- 15:07and Georgia in fear of the Indian Removal Act of
- 15:10the eighteen thirties, other under President Andrew Jackson. Over the years,
- 15:14they intermarried into the white population. Hundreds of Breathitt Countians,
- 15:18including your writer and his wife, are part Indian. Over
- 15:22the decades, the Middle Fork area has produced disproportionate numbers
- 15:25of county officials, educators, and many other colorful and unique individuals,
- 15:30such as World War One Congressional Medal of Honor recipient
- 15:34Willie Sandlin, who was born on the Freedman Fork of
- 15:37Long's Creek. His military feats of capturing three German machine
- 15:41gun positions and killing twenty German defenders in the process
- 15:45as virtually unparalleled in the military history of our nation.
- 15:49The legendary John Schell lived in Leslie County. His claim
- 15:52of being the world's oldest man at one hundred and
- 15:55thirty four years old made him a celebrity throughout the
- 15:57state of Kentucky. His claim of being born in seventeen
- 16:01eighty eight, during the period of George Washington and Daniel Boone,
- 16:04created wide interest and much disbelief. He died in nineteen
- 16:08twenty two. However, his longevity could never be authenticated. On
- 16:14the music Trail with Cathy by Kathy bays Alberts, the
- 16:19second artist we saw at the Appalachian Arena in Pikeville
- 16:23on Friday November fourteenth, twenty twenty five was the extremely
- 16:27talented gospel singer Crowder. I'll give you a brief history
- 16:30of him and continue with his solo artist's career. He
- 16:34was born David Wallace Crowder on November twenty ninth, nineteen
- 16:38seventy one. He's fifty four in Texas. After college, he
- 16:42formed the David Crowder Band in nineteen ninety seven till
- 16:45they disbanded in twenty twelve. They released numerous albums. Their
- 16:49final album debuted at number one on the Billboard Christian
- 16:52Album's Charts and number two on the Billboard two hundred chart.
- 16:56In twenty thirteen, he began his solo career simply as Crowder.
- 17:00He's done five solo albums, Neon Steeple with the lead
- 17:03single I Am in twenty fourteen. He released his second album,
- 17:07American Prodigal in twenty sixteen, with the first single being
- 17:11Run Devil Run. He released his third album I Know
- 17:14a Ghost with the two singles Red Letters and Wildfire.
- 17:18His fourth album, Milk and Honey was released in twenty
- 17:21twenty one, with the first three singles Good God, Almighty,
- 17:25in the House, God Really Loves Me. He released his
- 17:28fifth album, Exile in twenty twenty four after dropping a
- 17:31new single dash. My favorite song was on the twenty
- 17:35fifteen album and the name of it is Come as
- 17:37You Are. He's won three out of twenty nominations for
- 17:41the Gospel Music Association DOUB Awards, the highest honor a
- 17:45gospel musician can achieve. He's done five music videos, written
- 17:49two books, and is super talented. He can play any
- 17:52instrument from keyboards to the banjo. If you ever have
- 17:55the opportunity to see him, by all means do he
- 17:57won't be disappointed. Next week Week You'll finish up with
- 18:01Zach Williams on the Music Trail Recipes with Kathy. Here
- 18:06was a traditional Christmas dish at our house. Sweet potato casserole.
- 18:11One large can of sweet potatoes, one half steak of
- 18:15margarine softened two eggs, one half teaspoon cinnamon, one cup
- 18:20evaporated milk, three quarter cup light brown sugar. First, cream
- 18:26together ingredients and make it three hundred and fifty degrees
- 18:28for twenty minutes. For the topping, you'll need one cup
- 18:32of Graham cracker crumbs, one half cup light brown sugar,
- 18:36one half cup pecans chopped, one half stack of margarine
- 18:40softened cream. Together the topping ingredients and then spread over
- 18:44the baked potato mixture. Bake for an additional ten to
- 18:47fifteen minutes from the councilor's desk. By Randy Cloth. Finding
- 18:56joy and meaning during the Holidays Practical guidance for a
- 19:00fulfilling season. The holidays can be a wonderful time of year,
- 19:04but they can also be challenging. Think of ways to
- 19:06make things less stressful and hectic. Take time to visit
- 19:10family and friends, go shopping, attend church activities, decorate and cook,
- 19:14but try not to overdo it. While engaging in these things,
- 19:18try to live in and enjoy the moment. While some
- 19:21may be overly busy with the holidays, others withdraw and
- 19:24isolate themselves. If that's true, visit family or friends or
- 19:28call them. You may be surprised how meaningful this will
- 19:31be for you and for them. Think of ways to
- 19:34help or do something nice for someone. This is a
- 19:38sad time for some because loved ones are no longer
- 19:40with us. That's understandable, so take time to grieve and
- 19:43share memories with others. Try not to be overwhelmed with
- 19:46grief and sadness. Strive to find joy and happiness, even
- 19:50though it may not be easy. It seemed that our
- 19:52loved ones would want to be remembered, but do they
- 19:55want us to be miserable. Other ideas for less stressful
- 19:58holidays include sticking to a reasonable budget, avoiding over indulging
- 20:02in sweets and alcohol, exercising, and getting plenty of sleep.
- 20:07I never promised these things would be easy, but they're
- 20:09worth the effort. Focus on the meaning of these holidays,
- 20:13including being thankful, engaging with family and friends, giving and
- 20:17helping others. Of course, the greatest Christmas message is the
- 20:20birth of Jesus Christ. He left the glories of heaven
- 20:23so he could show us a better way to be
- 20:26the Lord and savior in a lost and fallen world.
- 20:29Take time to read the story for yourself in the
- 20:31Bible Luke chapter two. Please read it with your family
- 20:35or share it with others. If you or someone you
- 20:38know as dealing with severe emotional distress, hopelessness, and thoughts
- 20:41of suicide, please remember that professional help is always available.

- 21:16Ways to add herbs to your Holidays by Gianna Headecks Wiseman.
- 21:22The buzz of the holidays is upon us. Some of
- 21:25us look forward to the season, while others feel a
- 21:27little overwhelmed. There are a few small steps that you
- 21:30can take to make a difference in how you experience
- 21:32the holidays and how joyful you feel when the celebrations arrive.
- 21:36None of us can feel good if we're not properly nourished.
- 21:39Our bodies need extra support and pampering during the winter months.
- 21:43Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water for nutrition. Don't
- 21:47underestimate the power of soup. Healing herbs and spices can
- 21:51be added to your favorite recipes. Soups can be very
- 21:54nourishing and comforting, warming us from the inside out. Preparation
- 21:58for the holidays may be exhausting. Make an effort to
- 22:01set aside time and slow things down. Start a daily routine,
- 22:05such as a warming foot bath full of herbs. Some
- 22:08herbs to consider adding to the warm water are peppermint, leaf, rose, petals, camimeal,
- 22:13or lavender. Plan a time when you can sit quietly
- 22:16for an extended period of time. I like to do
- 22:19this in the evening while sipping tea or reading a book.
- 22:23Drinking warm tea throughout the day is a way to
- 22:25calm your nervous system in lower stress levels. There are
- 22:28endless tea blends. Find a tea that pleases your taste
- 22:31buds and provide healing properties for use specific needs. Sip
- 22:35it from your favorite mug and enjoy the warmth it
- 22:38provides while making your Christmas gift list, consider giving homemade
- 22:42herbal gifts. Blending your own herbal tea and putting in
- 22:45in a festive jars a special way to show love.
- 22:48Other examples or gift ideas are sugar scrubs for bath time,
- 22:52seasoning mixes for dips, or dried potpourries. Hand Crafted gifts
- 22:56are an affordable and heartfelt way to share the Christmas spirit.
- 23:00These timeless practices will help you stay healthy, relaxed, and
- 23:03stress free. Learn to really experience the magic of the

- 23:17we decided to make the long trip to Louisville and
- 23:19attend the state Fair. A lot of our members fell
- 23:21asleep on the way up, so they were ready to
- 23:23enjoy the fair with a bit of sleep. We parked
- 23:26the van and headed towards the entrance. It was senior Day,
- 23:29so we got in free. We felt good about having
- 23:32that benefit and yet a little sad knowing we are
- 23:35getting much older. You can smell the fairs we approached
- 23:38the gates. Popcorn, candy, corn, hot dogs, music and games
- 23:42filled the air. We all headed off in different directions.
- 23:45Some wanted to go see all the animals smell included.
- 23:49Others wanted to see all the items that had been
- 23:51hand made and see who won the gold ribbons or
- 23:53first place. You name it and somebody made it. Then
- 23:58there were all the booths. They seem to have no end,
- 24:01and everybody wants to sell you something that will change
- 24:03your life. If you pass by and not buy an item,
- 24:06you'll never be the same. This one's America worker that

- 24:17Taste buds will be exploding, and you'll wonder how you
- 24:20ever existed without this product. Then there was the medical section.
- 24:24One could see the large and small intestines and see
- 24:26the cancer forming on one's stomach. Makes one feel better already.
- 24:31Now let's go to the animal section of the fair.
- 24:33Get ready, because it doesn't matter how much they clean
- 24:36those cows and others, the smell is always there. I
- 24:39have a hard time believing someone will take that much
- 24:41time to groom and grow such a beautiful animal. I'm
- 24:44proud of each and every one of them for what
- 24:46they do to enter the contest and try and win
- 24:48first place. Then there's the talent contest, tractor pull, entertainment,
- 24:54and of course, don't let me leave out the competition
- 24:56dealing with all the horse events. There were other events
- 24:59all over the fair grounds, and each year it's advertised
- 25:02bigger and better. Let us just leave it at that.
- 25:06Our time was up, so we headed back to the
- 25:08van to go home. All of us were so hungry
- 25:11we couldn't wait to pull into Cracker Barrel's parking lot
- 25:13and have a feast. All of us got our order
- 25:17in and waited patiently for the food. Finally began to arrive,
- 25:20and we couldn't decide what we wanted to eat first.
- 25:23We were so hungry. We finished our meal and we
- 25:25went out to the front porch just to relax a bit.
- 25:29Van drivers Tom Collins and Ted Edmonds sounded the call
- 25:32to load up. We headed home. We arrived late in
- 25:35the evening evening, worn out but smiling from ear to ear.
- 25:39We'd had a good time for sure. My apologies for
- 25:42a late article, but I've been busy and some health problems. Anyways,
- 25:46Please consider coming to our Center and have some fun.
- 25:49You'll enjoy our trips, the fellowship and the places we
- 25:52stopped eat, continue on in the faith and God speak
- 25:55to all, and finally, back to our game of who.
