- 0:02Speaker 1: FT Live. Let's go, Kratz Polar, I'm brawn.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey did you see how the Brewers are going up
- 0:10Speaker 2: against the gauntlet? Kp Do you know what the real
- 0:13Speaker 2: cy Young Gauntlet is? It's only been done one other
- 0:16Speaker 2: time in back to back games, I guess in history
- 0:19Speaker 2: according to people that have looked it up, and then,
- 0:22Speaker 2: it's never happened in back to back days, Si Young.
- 0:25Speaker 3: I'm assuming they're facing the Cy Young Award winners from
- 0:29Speaker 3: last year, correct, and back to back days.
- 0:34Speaker 4: It has definitely been done. I faced the starting pitcher
- 0:39Speaker 4: from the National League All Star Game, Matt Harvey, and
- 0:43Speaker 4: the starting pitcher from the American League All Star Team,
- 0:46Speaker 4: Max Scherzer, in my only two starts in seventeen days.
- 0:50Speaker 4: So where that one? Okay, I've done it. Go get
- 0:52Speaker 4: them Brewers.
- 0:53Speaker 2: That's a weird gauntlet that was in a seventeen day span. Yeah,
- 1:00Speaker 2: crats don't play for weeks. Okay, here's this next guy
- 1:03Speaker 2: who is really good.
- 1:05Speaker 4: They started literally, it was right after the All Star break.
- 1:08Speaker 4: It was the two guys who started the All Star Game,
- 1:11Speaker 4: and I got to face them both. I was like,
- 1:13Speaker 4: what the heck, our bullpen catcher comes up to me,
- 1:16Speaker 4: He's like, man, you got no shot. They do not
- 1:19Speaker 4: want you to get any hits. I was like, well
- 1:20Speaker 4: I obliged. I didn't get any hits.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Feels like he was sabotaged, KP.
- 1:26Speaker 3: It's weird. Sometimes it just works out that way. When
- 1:28Speaker 3: you're a bench guy at platung Glea and then they
- 1:31Speaker 3: decide to throw you a bone and get you a
- 1:32Speaker 3: start against abriety. It's usually the other team's best picture.
- 1:37Speaker 2: It's like, oh, we give her catcher the option to
- 1:39Speaker 2: take whichever day off he wants.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Oh, it happens to be this day.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Hey, did that ever happen in your career?
- 1:46Speaker 1: Cratsy?
- 1:46Speaker 3: Like that you knew of Like the manager came and
- 1:49Speaker 3: talked to the starting catcher and said, hey, I'm gonna
- 1:51Speaker 3: give you a day off one of these three days,
- 1:54Speaker 3: take which one you want, and he just threw you
- 1:56Speaker 3: to the He just threw you to the sharks out
- 1:58Speaker 3: there and said, oh yeah, by the way, way, I
- 2:00Speaker 3: heard Matt Harvey Stern game to go get him, Crassy.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Not a chance. Every starting cat I was almost gonna
- 2:08Speaker 4: Every starting catcher I ever played with was like, no shot.
- 2:11Speaker 4: I never won a day off, and most of them
- 2:13Speaker 4: were like, no way, you're gonna put him out there
- 2:15Speaker 4: against you know, somebody nasty. But I mean that's how
- 2:19Speaker 4: I got some cool homers too, is because they slide
- 2:22Speaker 4: me into that eight spot in the lineup. The really
- 2:25Speaker 4: good pictures are like, whatever, eight spot just gonna go
- 2:28Speaker 4: right after him and whack danger. Hey remember me now,
- 2:31Speaker 4: I won't play against you again, but remember me now?
- 2:37Speaker 1: All right? That was fun. Let's charge.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Kratz is our guy reporting live from the scene always,
- 2:47Speaker 2: and the Phillies are in a struggle bus right now
- 2:50Speaker 2: and they're trying to get out of it, so they're
- 2:52Speaker 2: kicking Taiwan Walker off the bus. Krats, can you tell
- 2:56Speaker 2: us about the really entire kind of mess that's been
- 2:59Speaker 2: create aided here for the team? Walker though, four year,
- 3:03Speaker 2: seventy two million bucks, really well like nice guy in
- 3:05Speaker 2: the industry for a while. He's had some success in
- 3:07Speaker 2: the past with the Mets, Diamondbacks, et cetera, but it
- 3:10Speaker 2: really did not work out for him and Krats. What
- 3:13Speaker 2: happens is in a city that is very demanding and
- 3:17Speaker 2: very vocal, you will see fans tend to grasp a
- 3:22Speaker 2: certain player or two as their scapegoat.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Is it the right scapegoat well partially.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I mean he was losing them a game once a week,
- 3:31Speaker 2: but you got to score runs to win games. Your
- 3:34Speaker 2: thoughts on how this unfolded going back for a couple
- 3:38Speaker 2: of years now, where some people wanted him out, you know,
- 3:40Speaker 2: a year or two ago.
- 3:42Speaker 4: And he ate up a lot of really good innings.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Last year for him, I think he had just above
- 3:47Speaker 4: a four ERA last year, after the year before, I
- 3:50Speaker 4: think he had a seven plus ERA. That's pretty much
- 3:53Speaker 4: when the ire of Philly fans kind of hit Taiwan Walker.
- 4:00Speaker 4: I think kind of his the look that it looks
- 4:02Speaker 4: like it's nonchalant, I think right out of the gate
- 4:07Speaker 4: was something that Philly fans were like, he doesn't even
- 4:08Speaker 4: look like he's trying. And I'm like, pump the brakes.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Go back and watched this dude when he was in
- 4:14Speaker 4: Seattle pumping ninety four to ninety nine. He didn't look
- 4:17Speaker 4: like he was trying very hard. His velocity went down. Like,
- 4:20Speaker 4: just because you don't look like you're trying hard doesn't
- 4:22Speaker 4: mean that you don't well. In a city like Philly,
- 4:24Speaker 4: when that's the perception, then all of a sudden, you
- 4:30Speaker 4: have a bad half a year a bad stretch, and
- 4:33Speaker 4: he did. He had a bad His second year of
- 4:35Speaker 4: the contract was awful and they wanted him released. Fans
- 4:38Speaker 4: wanted him released before then. He ate up a lot
- 4:41Speaker 4: of really good innings. I don't know how many he
- 4:43Speaker 4: had last year twenty five, he made twenty one starts.
- 4:47Speaker 4: He ate up one hundred and twenty three innings at
- 4:49Speaker 4: a four era. Okay, that's valuable. I think this release
- 4:54Speaker 4: was happening regardless of what his outcome was. Obviously, you know,
- 4:59Speaker 4: if he as a two era, I think they keep
- 5:01Speaker 4: him around. But I don't think Taiwan Walker is at
- 5:04Speaker 4: the point in his career where he could have a
- 5:07Speaker 4: two era. And I think some of it was, you know,
- 5:10Speaker 4: there's just age catches up to some guys. But my opinion,
- 5:14Speaker 4: when you watch him throw, feels like he's throwing through
- 5:17Speaker 4: things too. It feels like he's not one hundred percent,
- 5:20Speaker 4: and yet he's still going out there and taking the ball.
- 5:23Speaker 4: The only time you ever heard him complain was when
- 5:25Speaker 4: he didn't get the pitch when he wasn't on the
- 5:27Speaker 4: roster in the twenty the run in twenty two. That's
- 5:32Speaker 4: the only time. But Philly fans through an eight game
- 5:36Speaker 4: road road skid here or eight game game eight game
- 5:39Speaker 4: losing skid that they have. Tywan Walker ain't the problem.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Let's put it that way.
- 5:46Speaker 2: There are more than seventy thousand events listed on the
- 5:50Speaker 2: sea geek app, So if you're looking to do basically
- 5:53Speaker 2: anything this spring or summer, there's one place to go.
- 5:55Speaker 1: No.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Sea geek has all the concerts, baseball games, World Cup tickets.
- 5:59Speaker 5: What you need is on seke Trust me, I'm gonna
- 6:02Speaker 5: be hitting some concerts and some festivals this summer. I'm
- 6:05Speaker 5: gonna be looking for seek.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I can't wait to see aj g adding the best
- 6:10Speaker 2: tickets he can for concerts and festivals.
- 6:12Speaker 1: We'll get plenty of pictures there.
- 6:14Speaker 2: But also when he's looking, what he does is he
- 6:16Speaker 2: looks for when he's going to, say an arena for
- 6:18Speaker 2: a concert, a green dot meaning he's got a good
- 6:20Speaker 2: deal in a good spot. That's where Seekek helps you out.
- 6:23Speaker 2: With over thirty five million downloads, Seekeek is the number
- 6:26Speaker 2: one rated ticketing app. And of course we have the
- 6:28Speaker 2: code for the FT network Territory ten for ten percent
- 6:32Speaker 2: off your next set of tickets at sea Geek. That's
- 6:35Speaker 2: ten percent off any tickets with the promo code Territory
- 6:38Speaker 2: one zero. Make sure you click the link in the
- 6:40Speaker 2: description to download the app and have the code automatically
- 6:43Speaker 2: added to your account.
- 6:44Speaker 1: So you can use it later. Props to see geek.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you you you mentioned something Scott about
- 6:52Speaker 3: him being the scapegoad. I don't think this has anything
- 6:54Speaker 3: to do with the Phillies organization, you know, trying to
- 6:57Speaker 3: point blame at someone for their res and struggles. I
- 7:00Speaker 3: just think his time had come. You know, he really
- 7:04Speaker 3: didn't kind of live up to the contract. He did
- 7:06Speaker 3: have some decent moments with the team. He had some
- 7:08Speaker 3: valuable moments as Cratsy kind of appointed it to, you know,
- 7:12Speaker 3: eating up innings. But he just isn't off to a
- 7:15Speaker 3: really good spot this year. And unfortunately, the game is
- 7:18Speaker 3: kind of evolved. Typically a guy like this would be
- 7:20Speaker 3: a guy you would move to the bullpen and kind
- 7:22Speaker 3: of that long reliever role. That role doesn't really exist anymore.
- 7:26Speaker 3: And unfortunately for him, the type of pitcher he is,
- 7:28Speaker 3: you can't just take him out of the starting role
- 7:30Speaker 3: and put him in the bullpen and his stuff plays up.
- 7:33Speaker 3: He you know, the last couple of years, he's lost
- 7:35Speaker 3: kind of the velocity on his fastball a little bit,
- 7:37Speaker 3: so you know, he's not a heart thrower who can
- 7:40Speaker 3: get away with just going out there and let it
- 7:42Speaker 3: letting it rip for one inning. I think it's just
- 7:45Speaker 3: his time has come. Maybe another team gives him an opportunity.
- 7:49Speaker 3: But I also like what Kratsey said too. You know,
- 7:50Speaker 3: he was a teammate of mine the year in New
- 7:54Speaker 3: York leading up to him signing that deal in Philadelphia,
- 7:57Speaker 3: and he just hasn't really looked the same. It does
- 7:59Speaker 3: look like he's pitching through something. I know he kind
- 8:02Speaker 3: of gets, you know, a reputation as a guy who
- 8:04Speaker 3: doesn't care. As his teammate, he cares a lot. He
- 8:07Speaker 3: works really hard, but when you watch him pitch, he
- 8:11Speaker 3: just doesn't look physically right. And you know, maybe he
- 8:14Speaker 3: gets a little bit of time off, goes back home,
- 8:17Speaker 3: spend some time with his family, kind of reevaluates where
- 8:20Speaker 3: he's at. Maybe a team gives him an opportunity, you know,
- 8:24Speaker 3: a month from now, two months from now. You know,
- 8:26Speaker 3: we saw with Lucas Giolito that you can and Patrick Corbin,
- 8:30Speaker 3: you could be sitting at home and if you've got
- 8:32Speaker 3: major league experience and know how to get out. You know,
- 8:35Speaker 3: the phone's going to ring at some point. It's up
- 8:37Speaker 3: to him if he decides to go on and play.
- 8:40Speaker 3: If he doesn't, he had a really nice career.
- 8:43Speaker 1: KP.
- 8:44Speaker 2: What do you think is wrong with the Phillies on offense?
- 8:46Speaker 2: I mean, this is a team that you look at
- 8:48Speaker 2: and say, hey, this is a pretty complete team on paper.
- 8:51Speaker 2: There's some really notable names starting pitching wise, bullpen. I
- 8:55Speaker 2: know Duran's out right now, but they've invested in each
- 8:58Speaker 2: part of their team and it's not clicking early on
- 9:00Speaker 2: in the season. I'll throw a nugget out there. For example,
- 9:04Speaker 2: they're zero to nine against left handed starting pitchers this year,
- 9:07Speaker 2: excluding openers. So what are your thoughts on what's happening here?
- 9:12Speaker 3: You know what, who's you know, whose thoughts? I really
- 9:14Speaker 3: want to get as our first guest because he's very
- 9:17Speaker 3: you know, you know, in tune with with that division,
- 9:21Speaker 3: you know, falling in the Yankees a ton. He loves talking, hitting,
- 9:24Speaker 3: he loves talking approach. Some things just can't be explained.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I mean the left handed thing. And you know I've
- 9:31Speaker 3: pounded this table for teams going out and and employing
- 9:35Speaker 3: you know, guys like myself who were known for hitting
- 9:37Speaker 3: left handed pitching and not you know, paying them pennies
- 9:40Speaker 3: on the dollar. And maybe that's an area of an
- 9:42Speaker 3: improvement that they needed to have guys that hit from
- 9:44Speaker 3: the right side that could platune with some of the
- 9:46Speaker 3: outfields and not kind of scraping the bottom of the
- 9:49Speaker 3: barrel for guys to face some of these lefties, because
- 9:52Speaker 3: as we've seen in the game, you know, the arguably
- 9:55Speaker 3: some of the you know, majority of the top ten
- 9:57Speaker 3: pitchers in the game are left handed. So you're gonna
- 9:59Speaker 3: run into some really nasty left handed pitching. But I
- 10:03Speaker 3: don't know if it's just you know, and I hate
- 10:04Speaker 3: saying this, because he's one of the best in the game,
- 10:07Speaker 3: if you know, ever in terms of most respected hitting
- 10:11Speaker 3: coaches in the game. But sometimes you keep a group
- 10:14Speaker 3: together for a long time and it's the same voice
- 10:16Speaker 3: and the same tweaks and the same fixes and the
- 10:19Speaker 3: same you know, trying to figure things out in the
- 10:22Speaker 3: batting cage, you know, the whole Phillies sort of core.
- 10:27Speaker 3: It may be time to kind of shake things up there.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and you're talking about Daniel Murphy, who is going
- 10:32Speaker 2: to join us in about five minutes. I mean, Kevin
- 10:35Speaker 2: Long changed Murph's career. It's like the prime example there
- 10:40Speaker 2: of someone who was able to make a huge impact
- 10:43Speaker 2: on a player who already had some midman's skill sets
- 10:47Speaker 2: and he was able to take him to the next level.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I mean, we'll ask Murph about this coming up in
- 10:50Speaker 2: a moment, but Kevin Long's got to be one of
- 10:53Speaker 2: his guys.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And I hate even like I'm not even suggesting it.
- 10:57Speaker 3: I'm just saying, sometimes you're around the same people, it's
- 11:01Speaker 3: kind of the same core group of players. I don't
- 11:04Speaker 3: know what it is. Some things are just explainable in
- 11:06Speaker 3: this game, because when you look at that lineup on paper,
- 11:09Speaker 3: you wouldn't think they would be one of the worst
- 11:12Speaker 3: statistically offensive in baseball right now. And I don't know, Crassy,
- 11:16Speaker 3: what do you think you're you're the local PA guy.
- 11:20Speaker 3: What do you got.
- 11:22Speaker 4: I mean, it's it is just if you watch them consistently.
- 11:28Speaker 4: And I think that's what Philly fans are pissed about,
- 11:31Speaker 4: is you watch this team consistency consistently, and it's very
- 11:36Speaker 4: short at bats, it's weaker contact. Now, yesterday, I think
- 11:41Speaker 4: they had better at bats against Matthew Boyd. I think
- 11:44Speaker 4: they had, you know, but then you say, okay, they
- 11:46Speaker 4: have better at bats against a lefty just coming off
- 11:50Speaker 4: the il, but they didn't string those runs together. It's
- 11:54Speaker 4: all felt. It's all well and good. If you're cutting
- 11:56Speaker 4: down strikeouts, that's awesome. If it's at the expense of
- 12:01Speaker 4: that's not awesome. And you have to be able to
- 12:03Speaker 4: drive the ball, and they're just they are in a
- 12:05Speaker 4: serious funk right now.
- 12:06Speaker 1: But I think so.
- 12:08Speaker 4: One of our people behind the scene put together a
- 12:12Speaker 4: you know, our production meeting, and one of the stats
- 12:14Speaker 4: that was put in there at Mundososa was hitting one
- 12:16Speaker 4: seventy four against lefties. Entering the game. He got two hits,
- 12:21Speaker 4: he got a double on a single, he's hitting two
- 12:24Speaker 4: forty now. It's just a prime example of one game
- 12:30Speaker 4: can change some of these numbers around. One game can
- 12:34Speaker 4: change you know, what guys are hitting against lefties or
- 12:37Speaker 4: guys who have historically hit against lefties can change these
- 12:40Speaker 4: numbers around. The issue is everybody's going through it. Schwarber
- 12:45Speaker 4: hit a homer against Chota the other day, and you know,
- 12:49Speaker 4: it just seemed like, yeah, bats didn't really change until
- 12:53Speaker 4: the ninth inning when they got a few guys on
- 12:56Speaker 4: so you sit here and you go, is it just
- 12:58Speaker 4: going to be Schwarber and Harper? Is the whole team
- 13:01Speaker 4: cooked at the same time. No, I don't think either
- 13:04Speaker 4: of those is true. And so I think it's time
- 13:07Speaker 4: to start betting high on the Phillies because I don't
- 13:12Speaker 4: see them doing this the whole year. Have they dug
- 13:15Speaker 4: themselves a big enough hole that they can't make the playoffs?
- 13:19Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yeah, That's what's crazy is you look at some of
- 13:23Speaker 2: the teams that have started off slow and it's not like, oh,
- 13:26Speaker 2: there's only two or three guys that are doing their thing.
- 13:28Speaker 2: It's like, no, there's really nobody doing their thing at
- 13:31Speaker 2: a normal level. I'll just give one quick example, because
- 13:33Speaker 2: I'm trying to watch more Reds games lately. It's Elie
- 13:36Speaker 2: de la Cruz, It's Sal Stewart, and then it's like,
- 13:41Speaker 2: and they're winning games. Why they can pitch, But they
- 13:44Speaker 2: also have two guys that are starring and that's enough
- 13:46Speaker 2: for now. Some others will hopefully come around for them.
- 13:48Speaker 2: But that's how much of a difference it can make.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I mean, you've got two guys that are doing their
- 13:52Speaker 2: thing and the team looks great, and then you've got
- 13:55Speaker 2: really zero or one on a team like the Phillies
- 13:57Speaker 2: with the Mets, who will talk more about coming up
- 14:00Speaker 2: and they can't string winds together. Support for today's episode
- 14:05Speaker 2: comes from Square, and they've got big news. During squares
- 14:07Speaker 2: biannual Releases event, they launched a wave of innovative new
- 14:10Speaker 2: tools to help local businesses run faster, smarter, and more profitably.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Square is awesome. Around Orlando, where AJ and I live,
- 14:17Speaker 2: we go to the farmers' markets around town. I go
- 14:20Speaker 2: to the one near Lake Iola. It's awesome. I use
- 14:22Speaker 2: Square to pay with my phone. I get the receipt
- 14:24Speaker 2: right away.
- 14:25Speaker 1: It's great.
- 14:25Speaker 5: And so many businesses, not just small businesses, uses. So
- 14:28Speaker 5: many restaurants and businesses I walk into, not only in Orlando,
- 14:31Speaker 5: but all over the country have these and you just
- 14:34Speaker 5: use your credit card, pops out a receipt, emails it
- 14:37Speaker 5: right to you. It's so fast, it's so efficient, it's
- 14:40Speaker 5: so hassle free. It's one of the great things that
- 14:42Speaker 5: you have going.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Square launched its most powerful tools yet, designed to give
- 14:46Speaker 2: local businesses a competitive edge without the complexity. If you're
- 14:49Speaker 2: ready to sell smarter, run faster, and stress less right now,

- 14:57Speaker 2: Square dot Com slash go slash fou. Well run your
- 15:00Speaker 2: business smarter with Square get started today. All right, we
- 15:12Speaker 2: have Papa Bon and Plar to help us guide through
- 15:15Speaker 2: the two pitchers standing out in the La area, Anaheim
- 15:19Speaker 2: for one with Jose Soriano and Sho Heeo Tani for
- 15:22Speaker 2: the Dodgers.
- 15:23Speaker 1: So here are the updated numbers for you.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Pap Jose Soriano, who has I don't want to say
- 15:28Speaker 2: come out of nowhere. I mean, he's been good if
- 15:30Speaker 2: you've watched in the last couple of years, but he
- 15:31Speaker 2: has clearly taking his game to another level this year.
- 15:34Speaker 1: He's on fire.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So after five more shutout innings and when he's at
- 15:39Speaker 2: thirty seven and two thirds one run and two to
- 15:42Speaker 2: four earned run average, is the first pitcher going back
- 15:46Speaker 2: to when they were recording this stuff since nineteen hundred,
- 15:48Speaker 2: to allow one or fewer total runs through six starts
- 15:52Speaker 2: to begin a season. That's excluding openers. There it is
- 15:55Speaker 2: for Sarah Langs also posting lowest era and the pictures
- 15:58Speaker 2: first six starts of a season and earned runs became
- 16:01Speaker 2: official in both leagues in nineteen thirteen, so he's racking
- 16:04Speaker 2: all kinds of records. And then Otani here real quick
- 16:07Speaker 2: after six shutdown innings for him is now at an
- 16:10Speaker 2: three to eight clip one ear and run in twenty
- 16:12Speaker 2: four innings. What are you seeing from both of these guys?
- 16:15Speaker 2: Obviously Otani's got to do his hitting thing too, but yeah,
- 16:18Speaker 2: I would love to get your thoughts on what you're
- 16:20Speaker 2: seeing from both of these pitchers who look like two.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Of the top five so far in the first month
- 16:24Speaker 1: of the season.
- 16:26Speaker 6: Well, for me with Jose Soriano, and first of all,
- 16:31Speaker 6: I made the mistake of betting.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I bet against him earlier in the season.
- 16:36Speaker 6: But for me, what I've seen is this fastball command
- 16:40Speaker 6: is unparallel.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Man.
- 16:43Speaker 6: He's able to use his fastball in all four quadrants.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Of the zone.
- 16:48Speaker 6: And when you're a pitcher and you're able to do that,
- 16:52Speaker 6: God just sets up so much. It opens up so
- 16:54Speaker 6: many doors for you. And another thing that's really surprised
- 16:59Speaker 6: me is is he's able to get hitters in the
- 17:03Speaker 6: zone and then out of the zone very quickly, and
- 17:05Speaker 6: especially with this ab yes man, because I believe there's
- 17:09Speaker 6: some pitchers out there with abs that tend to leak
- 17:13Speaker 6: over the middle of the plate a little bit more
- 17:14Speaker 6: than they should be because they're worried about nibbling. Like
- 17:18Speaker 6: Ranger Suarez. I had a great conversation about Ranger sore
- 17:22Speaker 6: As while I was up in Boston. He leaves a
- 17:24Speaker 6: lot of balls over middle heart of the plate because
- 17:27Speaker 6: he doesn't have that ninety five plus to blow it
- 17:30Speaker 6: by you when the hitter and everybody else in the
- 17:32Speaker 6: ballpark knows that a fastball is coming and you have
- 17:36Speaker 6: to throw that fastball. And so I think with Soriano,
- 17:40Speaker 6: his ability to challenge all quadrants of the zone and
- 17:43Speaker 6: be able to stay on those edges without losing it
- 17:47Speaker 6: to an ABS challenge has been really key for him.
- 17:52Speaker 6: And then you know, he throws his off speed and
- 17:54Speaker 6: he makes it come off of his fastball and the
- 17:57Speaker 6: off speed is out of the zone and he's getting
- 18:00Speaker 6: the last swing and miss off of that. So to
- 18:02Speaker 6: me as a pitcher, that's that's what I see most
- 18:04Speaker 6: of him and the reason why he's being so effective.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I watched him yesterday because I was covering the
- 18:10Speaker 3: Blue Jays game, and you know, to throw out another
- 18:14Speaker 3: stat going into yesterday's game, the last seventy five batters
- 18:18Speaker 3: he had faced, he's given up one extra base hit.
- 18:20Speaker 3: He dig up seven hits yesterday, no extra base hits.
- 18:23Speaker 3: It's been a ridiculous start to him. I got a
- 18:26Speaker 3: chance to play with him two years ago when he
- 18:28Speaker 3: was just a young pup coming up, and you could
- 18:31Speaker 3: see he had the stuff to be an absolute superstar
- 18:34Speaker 3: in this game. It has taken him some time to
- 18:37Speaker 3: kind of figure out and tweak his arsenal. And I
- 18:39Speaker 3: think you just have to give a lot of credit
- 18:41Speaker 3: to a guy like Mike Maddocks who's been in this
- 18:42Speaker 3: game for ever and is known as one of the
- 18:45Speaker 3: best pitching coaches in the game. Him coming over to Anaheim,
- 18:49Speaker 3: and I think they talked about on the broadcast yesterday.
- 18:51Speaker 3: He's utilizing his best pitch, which is his curveball the least,
- 18:56Speaker 3: so he's not showing it is often. I think that
- 18:58Speaker 3: was a problem early in his career, even though it
- 19:01Speaker 3: was filthy, he was using his curveball a lot. So
- 19:04Speaker 3: over the course of the second and third time you
- 19:06Speaker 3: saw him, hitters saw that curveball a lot. He's implemented
- 19:09Speaker 3: the forcing fastball at the top of the zone to
- 19:12Speaker 3: change the eye level. He obviously has one of the
- 19:14Speaker 3: best sinkers in the game, a high velocity sinker. But
- 19:17Speaker 3: the fact he's not showing his outpitch in his curveball
- 19:20Speaker 3: and his split finger, I think has really this allowed
- 19:24Speaker 3: him to take his game to the next level.
- 19:26Speaker 6: You know that, man, because Mike Maddox I had Mike
- 19:29Speaker 6: Maddicks as well, Polar and Mike maddox is huge on
- 19:32Speaker 6: being able to throw your off speed for a strike
- 19:35Speaker 6: and your off speed for Chase.
- 19:36Speaker 1: That's a great point, man, And pap what about Otani?
- 19:43Speaker 1: Uh Unicorn?
- 19:44Speaker 5: Dude?
- 19:45Speaker 3: Shit?
- 19:46Speaker 6: Man, Like you could say, I'm a loss.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Of words for this dude.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Man, I really.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Don't know what to say, Like how is he doing this?
- 19:55Speaker 6: You know I expected him to do it for you know,
- 19:59Speaker 6: a year or two and kind of phase into one
- 20:02Speaker 6: or the other and you know, let me just be
- 20:05Speaker 6: a pitcher, now, let me just be But this dude
- 20:08Speaker 6: just keeps doing it and doing it, and you know,
- 20:12Speaker 6: I would love to just try to follow him for
- 20:15Speaker 6: a week and see what kind of team that he
- 20:18Speaker 6: has around him, because you don't do these types of
- 20:22Speaker 6: things without a great team behind you, whether it's a
- 20:25Speaker 6: training staff, coaching staff, interpreters the whole nine yards. This
- 20:33Speaker 6: guy just night in and night out proves that he's
- 20:36Speaker 6: on a different level, and they're making up new rules
- 20:39Speaker 6: for him to where he doesn't count against a hitter
- 20:43Speaker 6: and a pitcher in the in.
- 20:45Speaker 1: The in the in the roster move.
- 20:48Speaker 6: So I mean, it's to me in innate ability to
- 20:52Speaker 6: to be able to switch, to switch from a hitter
- 20:56Speaker 6: to a position player or a d h which is
- 20:59Speaker 6: to me a still position player a hitter, and be
- 21:03Speaker 6: able to do this, and his uncanny ability to eke
- 21:07Speaker 6: people deep, like that's what gets me is right right.
- 21:11Speaker 6: Not only could he he maybe just be a hitter
- 21:14Speaker 6: that hits for average or gets guys over, but the
- 21:18Speaker 6: dude can take you deep. And to me, that's that's uncanny.
- 21:22Speaker 6: I've never seen nothing like it before, and I never
- 21:27Speaker 6: I used to doubt like this could continue, but I'm
- 21:30Speaker 6: not doubting it anymore, that's for sure.
- 21:34Speaker 2: People, life is expensive, so you should start looking at
- 21:37Speaker 2: things that are unnecessarily expensive, like your phone bill, and say,
- 21:42Speaker 2: is there a better option?
- 21:44Speaker 5: Men, mobile is a better option than if you have
- 21:45Speaker 5: other companies, especially when you have kids like me, and
- 21:47Speaker 5: you have everybody and their brother on your family plan.
- 21:51Speaker 5: Men Mobile give you a cheaper option with the same coverage.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yes, and some wireless bills are crazy with the bogus

- 22:33Speaker 1: See mint mobile for details.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, as I'm sitting here look at the number,
- 22:38Speaker 3: I don't really have much to say. It's in some
- 22:41Speaker 3: ways it's still, you know, his ability as a DH
- 22:45Speaker 3: and what he does on the offensive side still kind
- 22:47Speaker 3: of overshadows this, And I don't even know how that's possible.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I think I think we're living in a time where
- 22:53Speaker 3: we're seeing something that we've never seen before. And it's
- 22:56Speaker 3: so amazing that I think we're starting to get a
- 22:59Speaker 3: little number to it, because I can't even imagine. I mean,
- 23:03Speaker 3: if you took this name off the top of the
- 23:05Speaker 3: screen and you showed these numbers, you would be blown away.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Your mouth would be wide open. You'd be like, who
- 23:12Speaker 3: is this guy? This guy's the greatest picture of all time?
- 23:14Speaker 3: And then you see it showy Atani and you're like, wait,
- 23:17Speaker 3: isn't that the guy who also his bomb steals bases
- 23:20Speaker 3: is the best offensive player in the league. Like it's
- 23:22Speaker 3: hard to even put into words what he's doing this year.
- 23:27Speaker 3: It's amazing that he can, you know, And I think
- 23:30Speaker 3: I think him coming back from the TJ too, It's
- 23:33Speaker 3: taken him a little time to get to this form,
- 23:35Speaker 3: and I think he's all the way back. And I mean,
- 23:38Speaker 3: are we looking at a guy who could potentially win
- 23:41Speaker 3: the m v P and the cy Young in the
- 23:43Speaker 3: same year.
- 23:47Speaker 6: So, like like as a hit, as a position player,
- 23:51Speaker 6: as a hitter, like preparation, right, So preparation is such
- 23:55Speaker 6: a big thing, like to me, like I want to.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Know, like what's his prep?
- 24:02Speaker 3: I don't even know how he has enough time to
- 24:04Speaker 3: do everything right, because we're at the field a long
- 24:08Speaker 3: time as as baseball players, probably too long before a game.
- 24:11Speaker 3: But you know, when you consider, you gotta you know,
- 24:14Speaker 3: do your treatment. You gotta work out, and you gotta
- 24:17Speaker 3: get your body ready. You have these meetings and then
- 24:19Speaker 3: I want to get my swings in the cage and
- 24:21Speaker 3: it's bp, you know, and then I want to relax
- 24:23Speaker 3: a little bit. Then I gotta ramp it back up
- 24:26Speaker 3: to go play a game. Right. He has to mix
- 24:28Speaker 3: in pitching and his bullpens, his arm care, all the
- 24:32Speaker 3: different things that he has to do. He has to
- 24:34Speaker 3: be ready as a hitter, you know. Then he has
- 24:36Speaker 3: to figure out ways that throws bullpen. Then he has
- 24:38Speaker 3: to go start. And then by the way, the day
- 24:40Speaker 3: he starts, he's also hitting too. It's like I'm not
- 24:43Speaker 3: gonna lost word. It's it's like one.
- 24:45Speaker 5: Day you sit down and eat.
- 24:48Speaker 3: I have no idea. But you know, the too is
- 24:51Speaker 3: we know he sleeps. He sleeps like, you know, fifteen
- 24:54Speaker 3: hours day too. So he's getting it done in like
- 24:57Speaker 3: a shorter amount of time than most people.
- 24:59Speaker 1: So, I mean, it's it's insane.
- 25:02Speaker 2: He's sleeping ten twelve hours a night on most nights.
- 25:05Speaker 2: If he can ten to twelve hours.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I mean plenty of players. Yeah, how many did you log?
- 25:13Speaker 6: PAP six I was lucky on a day game to
- 25:16Speaker 6: get four or five.
- 25:17Speaker 1: A night, exactly.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah, this guy is I mean, that's why it can
- 25:23Speaker 2: be a little bit mysterious. You just don't get a
- 25:25Speaker 2: lot of access to him sometimes because during the season
- 25:27Speaker 2: he's freaking busy, and even his teammates will be like,
- 25:30Speaker 2: the most time and the fun time they get to
- 25:32Speaker 2: spend with him is often during the game because then
- 25:34Speaker 2: during the game, you know, if he's dhing, he's in
- 25:36Speaker 2: the dugout, whatever, you get to spend more time with him.
- 25:39Speaker 2: And maybe that's why, you know, he finally had an
- 25:41Speaker 2: off night. He had an on base streak that was
- 25:43Speaker 2: at fifty three games and it ended fifty three games,
- 25:47Speaker 2: and he finally went oh for four on a day
- 25:49Speaker 2: that he pitched and ken he win a cy young
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yes that we talked about the innings, but you know,
- 25:53Speaker 2: writers ser obsessed with wins above replacement, especially the newer ones,
- 25:57Speaker 2: and right now for National League pitchers, he has the
- 26:00Speaker 2: top runs what is it ri nine to war for fangrafts,
- 26:04Speaker 2: which is one of the most popular ones that writers
- 26:06Speaker 2: go off of. He has the tops number in the
- 26:09Speaker 2: National League. Soriano is way ahead of everyone else, and
- 26:11Speaker 2: there's a few other American League pitchers, but he has
- 26:14Speaker 2: tops of.
- 26:14Speaker 1: The National League.
- 26:15Speaker 2: So even if he pitches once a week, if those
- 26:16Speaker 2: innings are like this and he ends up with like
- 26:18Speaker 2: a one and a half RA, he can win the
- 26:21Speaker 2: freaking award. That's crazy, and he might then he might yeah,
- 26:25Speaker 2: very well. Yeah, yeah, I mean, hey, if he stays
- 26:28Speaker 2: healthy and keeps doing this, even if he ends up
- 26:30Speaker 2: with whatever, twenty five starts versus somebody who had thirty
- 26:33Speaker 2: or even less than that, twenty three or four starts
- 26:36Speaker 2: versus somebody who had thirty, he can win the award.
- 26:38Speaker 2: So we'll keep an eye on it. Obviously it's super early,
- 26:41Speaker 2: but Pat, thanks for the extra time today, dude.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Good to see it.
- 26:43Speaker 6: Yeah, man, I enjoyed a nice event. Finally meet you,
- 26:46Speaker 6: Kevin and keep it sexy, Scottie.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Oh will, that's all I can do, thank you.
- 26:52Speaker 7: That's yeah, all right, let's try to finish with a
- 27:06Speaker 7: sexy little play from O'Neill Cruz off of the top
- 27:11Speaker 7: of the foul pole.
- 27:13Speaker 1: It was good call to They're like if this is fair.
- 27:15Speaker 1: This is going to be ridiculous. It is off the
- 27:18Speaker 1: top of the foul pole.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I mean, he is a video game looking guy in
- 27:23Speaker 2: terms of not just the size, but also like the
- 27:26Speaker 2: exit velocity, all of that, the speed, everything that he does,
- 27:29Speaker 2: and you've been waiting for it to come together. This
- 27:31Speaker 2: right now is a career year beginning to his season.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I had two thoughts on it. I think the foul
- 27:37Speaker 3: pool ruined it or the foul pool added to it,
- 27:40Speaker 3: because where with this ball would have landed if it
- 27:43Speaker 3: didn't hit the foul pool. But it also adds a
- 27:45Speaker 3: really cool element the fact that he hit it off
- 27:47Speaker 3: the top of the foul pool. If you would have
- 27:49Speaker 3: hit over it, it would have been like, Wow, it's
- 27:51Speaker 3: a bomb. But then you actually really get to put
- 27:53Speaker 3: into context how high that foul pole is and he
- 27:56Speaker 3: hit the top of it. I mean I watched it
- 27:58Speaker 3: probably five or six times night laying in bed before
- 28:01Speaker 3: I flew home this morning. And it's crazy that there's
- 28:05Speaker 3: athletes like this that possessed this type of power batspeed
- 28:10Speaker 3: ability on the baseball field. I was very fortunate to
- 28:12Speaker 3: play for a long time, and I wasn't that type
- 28:14Speaker 3: of athlete so you know, that's a little feather in
- 28:17Speaker 3: my cap.
- 28:18Speaker 2: But dude, to me, this is the X factor right
- 28:21Speaker 2: now for why the Pirates are in a good spot.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I know they added some pieces in the offseason, but really,
- 28:26Speaker 2: to me, I mean, O'Neil Cruz has been loosing with
- 28:28Speaker 2: potential for years. He's put up some decent numbers league
- 28:31Speaker 2: adjusted stats over the course of his career, but then
- 28:34Speaker 2: last year was super down. I mean, he was a
- 28:36Speaker 2: below league average hitter by ops plus, he was at
- 28:39Speaker 2: eighty six. He was running a lot, which he's doing now.
- 28:42Speaker 2: But now, I mean the first month of the season,
- 28:44Speaker 2: he's two eighty six, three fifty two on base, five
- 28:47Speaker 2: point fifty one slug, seven homers, ten stolen bases, and
- 28:51Speaker 2: he's hitting left handed pitching really for the first time
- 28:53Speaker 2: in his career. So when you add all of that up,
- 28:55Speaker 2: all of a sudden, you have a player who's playing
- 28:57Speaker 2: like an All Star. And when you add that to
- 28:59Speaker 2: the three for other guys that they brought to the lineup,
- 29:02Speaker 2: it's serious.
- 29:03Speaker 1: It's a different team.
- 29:03Speaker 3: So I love I love seeing it because I love
- 29:06Speaker 3: you know, we we've been tough on the Pirates, even
- 29:08Speaker 3: on this show going into free agency and they finally
- 29:11Speaker 3: went out and actually made some moves. So I'm really
- 29:14Speaker 3: glad that the Pirates are off to a get start.
- 29:16Speaker 3: They're a team that every time they're on and I'm
- 29:19Speaker 3: watching them, I'm rooting for them because I think it's
- 29:22Speaker 3: good for baseball when a team has a guy like
- 29:25Speaker 3: O'Neal Cruz in their lineup, they have the pitching staff
- 29:28Speaker 3: led by Paul Skins. At some point, you got to
- 29:30Speaker 3: put your chips in. And that doesn't mean they have
- 29:33Speaker 3: to go out and sign guys for you know, one
- 29:36Speaker 3: hundred million dollars, two hundred million dollars, but go out
- 29:38Speaker 3: and make some effort to try to improve your team.
- 29:40Speaker 3: And I think that's what they did this offseason. So
- 29:42Speaker 3: I'm rooting for them. I hope they go out and
- 29:44Speaker 3: they're a playoff team because how exciting would it be
- 29:47Speaker 3: to have this version of O'Neal Cruise and Paul skiings
- 29:51Speaker 3: in the postseason.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Paul Skins has been prepping for this moment, even on
- 29:56Speaker 2: the first couple of years when they're not making the playoffs,
- 29:58Speaker 2: getting ready for October baseball, hoping that he'll be able
- 30:02Speaker 2: to do that someday and I would say, right now,
- 30:04Speaker 2: they're in a good spot.
- 30:05Speaker 1: There's a long long way to go.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we can show the other play real quick
- 30:09Speaker 2: on the way out. I know we've been doing some
- 30:11Speaker 2: bonus time here Logan Gilbert. Luckily he didn't get too hurt.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I mean, he said he's got a good bruise, but
- 30:17Speaker 2: this could have been much worse. I was one of
- 30:19Speaker 2: the most unique players I've ever seen.
- 30:21Speaker 1: KP was. It was almost like a Savannah Banana's catch.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I've never I don't think I've ever seen that before.
- 30:28Speaker 3: You know, you see it sometimes get stuck under the
- 30:31Speaker 3: catcher's equipment and stuff like that. But to have a comebacker,
- 30:35Speaker 3: you know, either deflect off the glove a little bit
- 30:37Speaker 3: or just hit him square in the chest. He was
- 30:39Speaker 3: kind of looking all over the ball and then ends
- 30:41Speaker 3: up in his jersey. I don't think I've ever seen
- 30:43Speaker 3: that before.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yeah, me, neither.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:46Speaker 2: It looked like, you know, goes in the jersey and
- 30:48Speaker 2: then kind of like loops around. It looked like something
- 30:52Speaker 2: that was coordinated. It was very much not coordinated.
- 30:55Speaker 3: And we're gonna see this and guess who's going to
- 30:57Speaker 3: probably try to master it. It's those savanna of bananas.
- 31:00Speaker 3: That's gonna be like logan givert play right, It's give
- 31:04Speaker 3: it a couple of weeks, someone's going to master it.
- 31:06Speaker 2: At the very least, there'll be a pitcher ready for
- 31:09Speaker 2: a comebacker and he'll flip it into his shirt and
- 31:12Speaker 2: it'll spin around. So all right, good stuff today, fun show,
- 31:16Speaker 2: really good guests. Thanks to everyone for checking it out.
- 31:18Speaker 2: We'll see you on Friday. Ross Stripling, Todd Frazier and
- 31:22Speaker 2: myself see you. Then you'll get yourself in any sport
- 31:28Speaker 2: Odds BOUST token if you find one in the bet

- 31:35Speaker 2: Obviously there's no football right now, so really basketball hockey playoffs.
- 31:39Speaker 1: You could combine that with.

- 31:43Speaker 2: betslip activate the token. If you win your wager that
