- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to the land of windmills, waffles and wheel to
- 0:04Speaker 1: wheel warfare, because the Cathedral of speed well and truly
- 0:09Speaker 1: delivered in Acden for around eleven of the twenty twenty
- 0:11Speaker 1: five Motor GP World Championship, Mark Marquez is marching towards
- 0:15Speaker 1: the title like a man on a mission. But it's
- 0:18Speaker 1: a prillier stealing the headlines for two very different reasons.
- 0:22Speaker 1: As always, this episode of Pittalk is proudly brought to
- 0:25Speaker 1: you by Shannon's Insurance. I'm your host, Ronita vmullen, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: joining me is the man who is as reliable as
- 0:31Speaker 1: a Dutch bike and equationally just as squeaky, the one
- 0:34Speaker 1: and only mister Matt Clayton. Matt had to get a
- 0:37Speaker 1: few little dutchisms in there, but we have to start
- 0:41Speaker 1: this podcast by talking about Joge Martin and a prillier,
- 0:45Speaker 1: because once again Jai Martin's in the headlines and not
- 0:48Speaker 1: for racing on track. No.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I did get a little distracted with waffles halfway through
- 0:52Speaker 2: the intro there because I thought, oh, I haven't had
- 0:54Speaker 2: one of those for while. Let it go quite nicely,
- 0:55Speaker 2: but yeah, isn't it funny? We're what ten rounds into
- 0:59Speaker 2: Motor GP season and Jorge Martin has done thirteen racing
- 1:02Speaker 2: laps in a Grand Prix and here we are leading
- 1:04Speaker 2: a podcast talking about him again and it's for the
- 1:07Speaker 2: same story that won't go away, but for a completely
- 1:11Speaker 2: different reason, because things escalated over the course of the
- 1:14Speaker 2: as and weekend. And before I go too deep on this,
- 1:17Speaker 2: you were in that paddock over the weekend and it
- 1:20Speaker 2: just seemed like the story just kept escalating and escalating
- 1:23Speaker 2: to a point where you were almost prepared to believe
- 1:25Speaker 2: anything the longer the race weekend went. Take our listeners
- 1:29Speaker 2: on the inside for that, because you were privy to
- 1:31Speaker 2: all of these conversations that were going on behind the scenes,
- 1:34Speaker 2: and it just felt like it really ramped up from
- 1:36Speaker 2: attention point of view, didn't it.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Yeah, So obviously on track, you know, we had a
- 1:40Speaker 1: lot of crashes this weekend and which we'll dive into
- 1:43Speaker 1: with track temperature and everything. But sitting in the media
- 1:46Speaker 1: center working, all of a sudden, you see something that's
- 1:49Speaker 1: popped up on social media from Jogeey, Martin's manager saying,
- 1:53Speaker 1: how you know, we're looking at other options for next year.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Next minute, all the journalists are running around to each
- 1:58Speaker 1: other when the writers are in for media scrums, you know,
- 2:01Speaker 1: they're asking them on their opinions or what's going on.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Then we have Albeldo Puge from Honda because there was
- 2:08Speaker 1: a mention of possibility of Honda coming into Joge Martin's sphere.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Next minute, everything's going on from there. And then as
- 2:15Speaker 1: it's starting to really escalate, really escalate, I'm hearing talks
- 2:19Speaker 1: from Matt Burjack Appleyard, these guys saying about you know
- 2:22Speaker 1: what they're going to speak to them on air about
- 2:24Speaker 1: are they getting questions? Then it's Carlos Espeletta, the CEO
- 2:30Speaker 1: of Moto GP. He's then put out a statement as well.
- 2:35Speaker 1: The drama that happened off track in aison was just
- 2:39Speaker 1: as exciting as the drama that was happening on track.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And I don't know about you, Matt, My biggest takeaway
- 2:46Speaker 1: from all of this is Joge Martin's reputation right now.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think for him, he's having to put his trust
- 2:55Speaker 1: into his manager and he's believing his manager's doing the
- 2:58Speaker 1: right thing. For those who have been in following Retogipi
- 3:01Speaker 1: for a long time, you would know that his manager
- 3:03Speaker 1: does have quite a reputation for doing stuff like that.
- 3:06Speaker 1: We know Jgey Martin doesn't have a good relationship with
- 3:08Speaker 1: other manufacturers in the paddock, but I think that for
- 3:13Speaker 1: now Joege Martin, people are starting to not look at
- 3:17Speaker 1: him so well portrayed. We know he suffered with those
- 3:20Speaker 1: injuries and what happened in guitar you wouldn't wish on anyone.
- 3:24Speaker 1: But now it's starting to get to that next point
- 3:27Speaker 1: where it's like you're kind of starting to burn your bridges,
- 3:30Speaker 1: like you're not gonna have any more options. And we
- 3:32Speaker 1: know the type of writer Jogey Martin is, and I
- 3:35Speaker 1: truly believe if he was there on the Apilia now
- 3:38Speaker 1: fit and healthy, I think that would be he wouldn't
- 3:42Speaker 1: be fighting for the championship, but I think he'd be
- 3:43Speaker 1: challenging for podiums and really putting up a good fight
- 3:46Speaker 1: so far this season. But now it's none of that,
- 3:49Speaker 1: that's all out the window. You almost forget that he
- 3:52Speaker 1: is the world champion for former world championship and put
- 3:55Speaker 1: up that fight to Pego Banyaya, and now you're just
- 3:58Speaker 1: seeing all these headlines and showing side of Jujae Martin.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I don't think is going to help him in the future.
- 4:04Speaker 2: No, we were talking about this off here before and
- 4:06Speaker 2: I wrote this for Fox Sports dot com dot Au
- 4:08Speaker 2: today Wednesday here in Australia, I think at the start
- 4:12Speaker 2: of the year, with all of the injuries that he
- 4:14Speaker 2: had had from two accidents on the apillia and then
- 4:16Speaker 2: that one accident you had when he was training on
- 4:18Speaker 2: the supermotobike back in Andorra, there was a lot of
- 4:23Speaker 2: sympathy for what he was going through because he clearly
- 4:25Speaker 2: had a lot of horrible injuries. He was legitimately beaten up.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It was a great shame that we didn't get to
- 4:30Speaker 2: see that great theater of the number one on an
- 4:33Speaker 2: aprillia that he had earned with another manufacturer going against
- 4:36Speaker 2: the manufacturer that he had left. We didn't really get
- 4:39Speaker 2: to see that obviously until Katar and then a horrendous
- 4:41Speaker 2: accident there the incredibly bad luck being hit by the
- 4:44Speaker 2: jan Antonio stuck in the hospital for two weeks because
- 4:47Speaker 2: he couldn't fly with the lung injury and the broken ribs.
- 4:49Speaker 2: There was a lot of sympathy for everything that he
- 4:51Speaker 2: was going to going through rather but then you get
- 4:55Speaker 2: to this situation after well, just around the time the
- 4:58Speaker 2: French Grand Prix, where he he made it clear to
- 5:00Speaker 2: a Prillier that he wasn't willing to stay because there
- 5:03Speaker 2: was a clause in the contract that said he was
- 5:04Speaker 2: free to go elsewhere if he was not in the
- 5:06Speaker 2: top three the championship at a certain point of the season.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And you can look at it and go, well, yes,
- 5:11Speaker 2: that's true by the letter of the law. The reason
- 5:14Speaker 2: you're not anywhere near the top three in the World
- 5:15Speaker 2: Championship is because you haven't raced. And we've seen this
- 5:20Speaker 2: using clauses with context before, where he's got it out
- 5:23Speaker 2: of situations that he didn't want to be in. And
- 5:25Speaker 2: we talked about this in a podcast a while ago,
- 5:27Speaker 2: but a lot of people may not know this. He
- 5:29Speaker 2: was supposed to come to Motor GP with KTM in
- 5:31Speaker 2: twenty twenty one, and there was a clause in that
- 5:34Speaker 2: contract in twenty twenty when he was still in Moto
- 5:37Speaker 2: two if there was not a KTM rider in the
- 5:39Speaker 2: top ten of the championship by July one of that season,
- 5:41Speaker 2: then he was free to look elsewhere. Now, what didn't
- 5:44Speaker 2: happen until well after July one in twenty twenty There
- 5:46Speaker 2: was no racing because there was a pandemic, and so
- 5:50Speaker 2: the season didn't even start until Spain until towards the
- 5:53Speaker 2: end of July. We forget how late that was. While
- 5:56Speaker 2: that's a round, will always remember for other reasons. I
- 5:58Speaker 2: Mark Marquez falling off and started udding this run of
- 6:01Speaker 2: years where he was either injured or recovering from injuries.
- 6:05Speaker 2: That was the clause that he used to break a
- 6:07Speaker 2: KTM contract. So again, by the letter of the law,
- 6:10Speaker 2: fine in terms of is that the right moral play
- 6:14Speaker 2: to rely on a one in one hundred year pandemic
- 6:16Speaker 2: to get yourself out of something you don't want to do.
- 6:19Speaker 2: It didn't pass the smell test, and so by that situation.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Because of that situation, he's burned KTM. We know that
- 6:26Speaker 2: after things didn't go the way he wanted it to Catty,
- 6:28Speaker 2: he pretty much rage quit them and signed with a
- 6:30Speaker 2: Prillier in about twenty four hours, which you know, the
- 6:32Speaker 2: more we go into this, now that looks like a
- 6:34Speaker 2: contract that was signed in twenty four hours, because there's
- 6:36Speaker 2: clearly a lot of conjecture about what it should be said.
- 6:38Speaker 2: So he's escaped going to KTM. He's rage quick to Catti.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Now he's looking to leave a Prillier. There's only five
- 6:45Speaker 2: manufacturers in MotoGP and I'm not brilliant at Mathaditta, but
- 6:48Speaker 2: that only leaves two. And Yamaha has already got the
- 6:51Speaker 2: situation where they've got five riders of four bikes. They
- 6:53Speaker 2: don't need anybody else in the mix. They've already got
- 6:55Speaker 2: too many riders for the bikes that they have. So,
- 6:58Speaker 2: to my mind, when he came out and said that
- 7:00Speaker 2: he wanted to escape this a Prillier contract, he clearly
- 7:03Speaker 2: had Honda in mindus a destination he wanted to go to.
- 7:06Speaker 2: We know that Luca Marini's out of contract with the
- 7:08Speaker 2: factory team there. But what was really interesting for me
- 7:11Speaker 2: and why personally I reckon this blew up at Asen.
- 7:15Speaker 2: After he had made that statement that he wanted to
- 7:17Speaker 2: leave a Prillier, Aprillia came out with this press release
- 7:20Speaker 2: Silverston you may remember, and it was basically, like the
- 7:22Speaker 2: writer's under contract. It would be wrong for other manufacturers
- 7:25Speaker 2: to talk to a contract and writer while he's under contract.
- 7:28Speaker 2: We've got nothing else to say. And I looked back
- 7:31Speaker 2: when that was released, that was a twenty second of
- 7:33Speaker 2: may so going back a fair while right, And so
- 7:36Speaker 2: that's how long ago this was and there'd been crickets
- 7:38Speaker 2: from a prelier since then, they had said nothing, and
- 7:41Speaker 2: I think because the story had stalled out and Martine
- 7:45Speaker 2: still you know, he's getting closer to returning, but he's
- 7:47Speaker 2: still not back. I think that was pretty deliberate by
- 7:50Speaker 2: management over the weekend to let's get this thing back
- 7:52Speaker 2: out there and look, Honda's an option we're considering. And
- 7:56Speaker 2: Albert Valaria did an interview with Jack Appleyard on the
- 7:58Speaker 2: Motor GP Live Fee, which you probably were there while
- 8:01Speaker 2: it was going on, and I certainly heard it, and
- 8:04Speaker 2: that was the stone that got thrown in the pond
- 8:06Speaker 2: that started this ripple effect of all of these other
- 8:08Speaker 2: reactions to that particular interview. What was interesting for me
- 8:13Speaker 2: was that Carmello espeletter from Dawner came out and said, look,
- 8:16Speaker 2: you know, we're not going to allow unless this is resolved.
- 8:19Speaker 2: We're not going to allow this for him to compete
- 8:21Speaker 2: for a manufacturer when there's not been an appropriate severance
- 8:24Speaker 2: of contract with a prillier in this case. And off
- 8:27Speaker 2: the back of that, Masama Rivella from a Prillier got
- 8:29Speaker 2: quite punchy on Sunday at Asen and basically said, look,
- 8:33Speaker 2: there's two options here. We can either sit around the
- 8:35Speaker 2: table and have a sensible discussion as to what's an
- 8:37Speaker 2: amicable parting if that's going to be the way it goes,
- 8:40Speaker 2: or we can go to court. It's up to you.
- 8:42Speaker 2: And I don't know about you, but I can't see
- 8:46Speaker 2: I find it bizarre to think that Martin's attempted to
- 8:48Speaker 2: come back to race for a Prillier at some point,
- 8:50Speaker 2: you know, perhaps as early as Czech Republic in two
- 8:52Speaker 2: rounds of time. That seems bizarre to me that they
- 8:54Speaker 2: could even go and work together while this contract is
- 8:57Speaker 2: still active. I have no doubt that Jem's going to
- 9:00Speaker 2: be on a Honda next year. The only question now
- 9:02Speaker 2: is how much is it going to cost? Because all
- 9:06Speaker 2: of these contracts can be settled, there'll be and as
- 9:08Speaker 2: they like to call it, a for an undisclosed sum,
- 9:11Speaker 2: or there'll be some sort of fine print where they
- 9:12Speaker 2: can't reveal it. How much is he going to have
- 9:15Speaker 2: to pay to get himself out of a contract where
- 9:18Speaker 2: he's got a clear case of buyer's remorse. But you know, look,
- 9:22Speaker 2: he's probably got lots of money he can afford these
- 9:23Speaker 2: sorts of things. The lawyers will get rich because that's
- 9:25Speaker 2: what lawyers do. But the point that you made at
- 9:28Speaker 2: the beginning of this, the damage reputationally to a writer
- 9:32Speaker 2: that had all of the sympathy in his quarter because
- 9:35Speaker 2: of how broken he was because of all these accidents,
- 9:37Speaker 2: I reckon that's completely shifted now, and there's a lot
- 9:40Speaker 2: of people that are saying, well, he's not actually given
- 9:43Speaker 2: a Prillier a chance here. And as you said at
- 9:46Speaker 2: the start of this, isn't it bizarre He came out
- 9:49Speaker 2: before Silverstone and made the comment that he wanted to
- 9:51Speaker 2: break and then Berzeki wins at Silverstone. All this blows
- 9:54Speaker 2: up at Assen on the weekend, and then Berzeki finished
- 9:57Speaker 2: the second in the Grand Prix, and you know, if
- 9:58Speaker 2: it wasn't Mark Marquez ahead of it, probably would have
- 10:01Speaker 2: won it because I think he would have beaten any
- 10:02Speaker 2: other rider. Just when Aprilia is getting dragged into these
- 10:05Speaker 2: really uncomfortable situations, up pops Marco Bozeki, who's also new
- 10:09Speaker 2: to Aprillia this year and gets a fantastic result. So
- 10:13Speaker 2: I can't help but think Bozeki is a very good
- 10:15Speaker 2: motor GP rider. He's not a world champion he's not
- 10:17Speaker 2: a fully fit Jogey Martin. The Aprillia right now, you
- 10:21Speaker 2: could argue the second best bike in motor GP. What
- 10:24Speaker 2: could a fully fit Jogey Martin do if he's motivated
- 10:27Speaker 2: on an Aprillier I reckon that would add another fantastic
- 10:30Speaker 2: element into the World Championship fight, But sadly we're probably
- 10:33Speaker 2: never gonna know AOI.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Well, that leads me to think, why would Jorge Martin,
- 10:40Speaker 1: who is a World Championship champion and we know the
- 10:42Speaker 1: caliber of writer that he is, want to go to Honda?
- 10:45Speaker 1: Why we know Honda at the moments not the best manufacturer. Okay,
- 10:50Speaker 1: the new rules are coming in twenty twenty seven, but
- 10:52Speaker 1: there's still no guarantee that Honda are going to make
- 10:55Speaker 1: this huge jump in twenty twenty seven. So why Lind,
- 10:59Speaker 1: like you said, the potentially second best manufacturer of right now.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Obviously we don't know what's happening with KTM, but why
- 11:06Speaker 1: leave them right now to go to a IF button? Maybe?
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see the logic in that if you're
- 11:13Speaker 2: looking at twenty twenty seven as a blank sheet of paper,
- 11:15Speaker 2: which it is to a degree, because these bikes are
- 11:17Speaker 2: going to be so different eight fifties, none of the
- 11:19Speaker 2: right height devices, none of the arrow on them. You
- 11:22Speaker 2: would put more faith in Honda being able to design
- 11:26Speaker 2: a better bike from a clean sheet of paper than
- 11:28Speaker 2: a Prillier. And that's no slight on a Prillier. But
- 11:31Speaker 2: it comes down to racing pedigree. We know that Honda
- 11:33Speaker 2: has huge pedigree in this sport hasn't been what it
- 11:36Speaker 2: was in the recent past, but you go back longer
- 11:39Speaker 2: than that, and it's just this. You know who's who
- 11:42Speaker 2: of motor GP, of one's titles on Hondas, and you
- 11:45Speaker 2: also have to imagine the resource both in terms of
- 11:48Speaker 2: manpower and budget at Honda is going to be ten, fifteen,
- 11:51Speaker 2: twenty five times what a Prillier can throw it at.
- 11:53Speaker 2: It's a completely different kettle of fish in that regard.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So you can see the logic in that if we're
- 11:58Speaker 2: all starting from the same start point here, then perhaps
- 12:01Speaker 2: the Honda is a better bet. And that's part of it.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I think if this rule set that we're in right
- 12:05Speaker 2: now is continuing for another three to five years, then
- 12:08Speaker 2: you would argue that Honda is not the better bet
- 12:11Speaker 2: because ever since Mark Marquez left Honda, it's been pretty
- 12:14Speaker 2: bleak if had the odd win here and there. Obviously
- 12:16Speaker 2: Zarco this year at Lamont. But so I think the
- 12:18Speaker 2: timing of it is part of it, Like can you
- 12:20Speaker 2: get in there in twenty six and then be around
- 12:23Speaker 2: for twenty seven If and that's a small word with
- 12:26Speaker 2: big consequences. If if Honda can actually get it right,
- 12:30Speaker 2: you'd probably see the logic in that. But in the
- 12:33Speaker 2: short term you just have to wonder how many more
- 12:37Speaker 2: bridges could you burn? As you said before, And look,
- 12:41Speaker 2: maybe he doesn't care less about the reputation, and you
- 12:44Speaker 2: know what people think about the way he's going about this,
- 12:47Speaker 2: there's going to be a sporting reason for him to
- 12:49Speaker 2: want to go that he's prepared to take a risk on.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Maybe that's an easier decision you can make. If you've
- 12:55Speaker 2: already won a world championship, you can sort of say, well,
- 12:57Speaker 2: who cares, I've already won one of these things, so
- 12:59Speaker 2: maybe I can take it of a gamble. But you
- 13:01Speaker 2: just have to look at the way. I think a
- 13:04Speaker 2: Prilliad is almost the best emotor GP at doing the
- 13:07Speaker 2: most with the least, and that's I'm not dissing a
- 13:10Speaker 2: Prilliam in that sense, but in terms of the resource
- 13:12Speaker 2: and the budget. You know, they are a small using
- 13:14Speaker 2: air quotes, small manufacturer relative to something as big as
- 13:17Speaker 2: Yabaha or as big as Hondo or even Ducati It
- 13:20Speaker 2: Prilli does a really great job with what they have.
- 13:23Speaker 2: But man, it's tough, isn't it. Like you said, you
- 13:25Speaker 2: are putting so much reputationally, You're betting so much on
- 13:30Speaker 2: something that is still an unknown and yet it might
- 13:33Speaker 2: have more of a chance from twenty twenty seven onwards.
- 13:35Speaker 2: But there's no guarantees in all of this, And you
- 13:38Speaker 2: only have to look at some of the writers that
- 13:39Speaker 2: have been on Hondas in the last few years, Like
- 13:41Speaker 2: I'm sure if you ask Juan Mira, like, well, how
- 13:43Speaker 2: do you fancy writing you know, a Repsol Honda or
- 13:45Speaker 2: a factory Honda, he would have said, fantastic, let's do that.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Look at what's happened to him since he went there
- 13:50Speaker 2: after Suzuki folded. He's basically broken himself into a million
- 13:53Speaker 2: pieces and doesn't even finish on podiums anymore and just
- 13:57Speaker 2: looks a shadow of what he was. And he's world
- 14:00Speaker 2: champion five years ago. So you can put a lot
- 14:03Speaker 2: in these moves based on the reputation of a company
- 14:06Speaker 2: and it can fall over for you. He's living proof
- 14:08Speaker 2: of that. There's proof of other guys that have gone
- 14:11Speaker 2: you know, the right way at the right time as well.
- 14:13Speaker 2: But it's a serious gamble my Martine at this point.
- 14:16Speaker 1: But it's not only Martin who's potentially looking for the
- 14:20Speaker 1: next place, you know, thinking about it as Pedro Acosta,
- 14:22Speaker 1: the guy that we thought was going to out before
- 14:25Speaker 1: Mark Marquez straightaway. Then we have that whole KTM debacle,
- 14:28Speaker 1: and I hear rumors about Valentino Rossi's still looking at Pedro.
- 14:32Speaker 1: But then in the back of my mind, I'm going, Okay, well,
- 14:35Speaker 1: do you Cadi's set? They're pretty good. Obviously we have
- 14:38Speaker 1: the old Prilier thing, Katm's folding, yamaha. We know we've
- 14:42Speaker 1: got multiple writers. Where's Pedro going to go next? So
- 14:45Speaker 1: that's when I'm starting to think all this silly Season
- 14:47Speaker 1: four next year in twenty twenty seven. I don't think
- 14:51Speaker 1: it's as clear as what I think Joge Martin's managers
- 14:54Speaker 1: hoping for well.
- 14:56Speaker 2: And also the other thing here is that what about
- 14:58Speaker 2: the precedent that if Martine's able to riggle his way
- 15:01Speaker 2: out of this contract that he doesn't want to be in.
- 15:03Speaker 2: What does that do for future contracts with other riders.
- 15:07Speaker 2: It's like if a contract is literally worthless and it
- 15:10Speaker 2: can just be broken at the whim of one of
- 15:12Speaker 2: the two parties, like fine, we don't want you to
- 15:14Speaker 2: be here anymore, of I don't want to be here anymore.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Then what's the point of having a contract in the
- 15:18Speaker 2: first place if you're just going to have your head
- 15:19Speaker 2: turned by the next, you know, the next thing that
- 15:21Speaker 2: comes along. It is like, oh, look at this, I
- 15:23Speaker 2: think I'd like to have a crack at this. But
- 15:26Speaker 2: all that sounds like to me is that you mentioned
- 15:28Speaker 2: all of these other manufacturers that there's chaos going on
- 15:30Speaker 2: here or underresourced here, or writers that don't want to
- 15:33Speaker 2: be there. And meanwhile, do Katty just keep rolling along
- 15:36Speaker 2: and doing dcatty things? And yeah, they had a rider
- 15:40Speaker 2: win at Asen on a weekend where I don't think
- 15:43Speaker 2: at any point he was actually the fastest rider, Mark Marquez,
- 15:46Speaker 2: but thirty seven points. Again, we've said this a few times, haven't.
- 15:50Speaker 1: We, honestly, So the off track was kind of taking
- 15:54Speaker 1: away from the on track, But it was the occasions
- 15:57Speaker 1: where you look up at the screen or you hear
- 15:59Speaker 1: someone in the media center. Oh, and we just had
- 16:02Speaker 1: crashes and crashes and crashes this weekend, all throughout all
- 16:05Speaker 1: the crotches sessions qualifying, which I was talking to Senna
- 16:09Speaker 1: and I'm going, what is going on with this? And
- 16:11Speaker 1: he said, oh, you know track temperature that tires like,
- 16:13Speaker 1: he goes, we're struggling. Well the parrellis, he goes, The
- 16:15Speaker 1: fronts on the Perellis are really good. But in Moto
- 16:17Speaker 1: GP they're definitely struggling with the fronts on the the Michelins.
- 16:21Speaker 1: But Mark marquees okay, phenomenal weekend if you looked at it,
- 16:27Speaker 1: like from the podium positions for him. But then early
- 16:30Speaker 1: in that weekend, that high side that he had in
- 16:33Speaker 1: that practice session and watching him and it was funny
- 16:37Speaker 1: because I wasn't gonna say this, Matt, but you bought
- 16:39Speaker 1: it up earlier. You said, watching Mark Marquez get up
- 16:43Speaker 1: is like watching me try and get out of bed.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Now we know you're only like twenty one, Matt, so
- 16:47Speaker 1: it's not too bad. But Mark Marquez, you mentioned this,
- 16:51Speaker 1: he is the aller of the oldest writers on the
- 16:53Speaker 1: grid now and he's not bouncing like he used to write.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I heard on the TNT broadcast he said to them,
- 17:01Speaker 1: adrenaline is my painkiller, but honestly, I don't know if
- 17:05Speaker 1: I can race. He said, he's destroyed. And for Mark
- 17:09Speaker 1: Marqus to say that, you think he never lets anyone
- 17:12Speaker 1: know when he's down, or he's out, or he's weak.
- 17:16Speaker 1: But how does Mark markus This is my question is
- 17:19Speaker 1: how does Mark Marquez then go from from that that
- 17:22Speaker 1: mentality saying those words struggling to just go and dominate
- 17:26Speaker 1: once again?
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's a guy who he loves an
- 17:30Speaker 2: external force to motivate him. Right, So you don't go
- 17:33Speaker 2: into these weekends going well, if I get hurt, I'll
- 17:35Speaker 2: show everybody how good I am and how strong mentally
- 17:38Speaker 2: I am. And there was a second accident for me
- 17:42Speaker 2: when he slid along his front at the end of
- 17:45Speaker 2: FP two, and every male watching him get up from
- 17:49Speaker 2: that accident just winced because that was only that was
- 17:51Speaker 2: a pain. Only half of the listeners he can probably understand.
- 17:54Speaker 2: But you mentioned before, and it's true, like he's thirty
- 17:58Speaker 2: two years old now and one of the things about
- 18:00Speaker 2: him when he was younger is that he would always
- 18:02Speaker 2: go past the limit. Do all these crazy saves and
- 18:05Speaker 2: save the front end and everything else. But when he crashed,
- 18:07Speaker 2: they were generally pretty big, and he generally has got
- 18:09Speaker 2: up because he was young and bouncy. He's you know what,
- 18:12Speaker 2: I think he's the second oldest rider behind Zaco now,
- 18:14Speaker 2: so you know, there's only so many times you can
- 18:17Speaker 2: fall with these things. And he gets up like an
- 18:19Speaker 2: older man out of these accidents these days, and he
- 18:21Speaker 2: looks pretty beaten up and pretty sore. But to my mind,
- 18:24Speaker 2: you look at the two margins over the weekend he
- 18:26Speaker 2: won that. He won the Grand Prix by six tenths
- 18:28Speaker 2: of a second, he won the sprint by about two
- 18:30Speaker 2: tens so there's nothing in it, really, And I just
- 18:33Speaker 2: thought it was so interesting that since he's had all
- 18:36Speaker 2: the right arm operations, he has always been better in
- 18:39Speaker 2: left handed corners and antiqulockwise tracks anyway, but on right
- 18:42Speaker 2: handed corners it was never a massive strength and now
- 18:45Speaker 2: it definitely is it a strength. He can definitely see
- 18:47Speaker 2: him suffering through there. And in the sprint he had
- 18:49Speaker 2: Alex Marquez right behind him, He had Bozeki behind him
- 18:52Speaker 2: for pretty much the last two thirds of the Grand Prix.
- 18:55Speaker 2: There was that section as you come out of the
- 18:57Speaker 2: last hap him with that, there's a succession of right
- 18:59Speaker 2: hand quarters before you come back to the chicag there
- 19:02Speaker 2: at Assen, and you could have probably drawn two chalk
- 19:05Speaker 2: lines on the track about ten centimeters apart, and I
- 19:08Speaker 2: reckon he hit the same piece of track for thirty
- 19:10Speaker 2: nine straight laps over the course of two straight days.
- 19:13Speaker 2: He knew that was the only place that someone could
- 19:15Speaker 2: get a run on him to pass him, and he
- 19:17Speaker 2: got those four corners right lap after lap after lap.
- 19:21Speaker 2: And no, I don't think he was the fastest, but yes,
- 19:23Speaker 2: I do think he was the smartest. And that's a
- 19:26Speaker 2: different level of rider when with that amount of pressure
- 19:29Speaker 2: on you, you do not make one mistake. If you
- 19:32Speaker 2: make one mistake, that becomes one place, becomes two places,
- 19:34Speaker 2: becomes three places. He was so metronomically perfect and it's
- 19:40Speaker 2: so interesting to see him win races in different ways. Now. Yes,
- 19:43Speaker 2: he goes to Aragon and just absolutely blust everybody because
- 19:46Speaker 2: we expect that. But he's had a couple of rounds
- 19:49Speaker 2: this year where he's had to do things like entire
- 19:52Speaker 2: Land when they miscalculated the entire pressure he had to
- 19:54Speaker 2: on the fly. Go oh, I need to change tactics
- 19:57Speaker 2: here and sit behind my my brother for the part
- 20:00Speaker 2: of the race, get the tire pressure up, and then
- 20:02Speaker 2: I'll pass him in the last three laps and win.
- 20:03Speaker 2: So that's Mark thinking on his feet. But what he
- 20:06Speaker 2: did on the weekend, given the physical juriss that he
- 20:09Speaker 2: was under, and he knew he wasn't the fastest rider,
- 20:11Speaker 2: and this has not been a Mark track in the past,
- 20:15Speaker 2: hugely hugely impressive. And you couple that with the misfortune
- 20:19Speaker 2: for his brother and the Grand Prix, and all of
- 20:21Speaker 2: a sudden we're looking at a sixty eight point championship lead.
- 20:23Speaker 2: But to my mind, that's kind of what it feels
- 20:26Speaker 2: like in terms of what the margin should be between
- 20:29Speaker 2: him and whoever it is that's coming second, because he's
- 20:31Speaker 2: been that much better than everybody in this first half
- 20:34Speaker 2: of the season. I reckon you.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Mentioned then knowing this is not a Mark track. I
- 20:39Speaker 1: don't know about you, Matt, but for me going into
- 20:42Speaker 1: this weekend, always the hype around Usen is Ppeco Brannyaya
- 20:46Speaker 1: like he has it tattooed on him. We know he
- 20:48Speaker 1: loves this place. But then you're going, also, Mark wasn't
- 20:51Speaker 1: the fastestless weekend. No, who was a lot faster than
- 20:55Speaker 1: him in Saturday's sprint. His brother, Alex Marquez. And there's
- 20:58Speaker 1: all this talk that's happening now. I'm sure you've heard
- 21:01Speaker 1: it and listeners. I don't know if you're reading the
- 21:04Speaker 1: articles and what that's coming out, but people that are saying, oh,
- 21:07Speaker 1: Alex isn't challenging Mark because it's his brother. Now, I
- 21:13Speaker 1: feel like if I know anything about races, having grown
- 21:16Speaker 1: up with one a lot, YEP, they're gonna challenge each other.
- 21:20Speaker 1: But I think for me, I think Mark just has
- 21:24Speaker 1: that little edge over Alex. And we've said this before.
- 21:27Speaker 1: You know, Alex is like a diesel truck and Mark's
- 21:29Speaker 1: like a supercar. There's just that little differences in them.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I think Alex is trying to challenge Mark as much
- 21:36Speaker 1: as he can, and he's pushing him in the way
- 21:38Speaker 1: that he can. But it's Mark Marquez. He's gonna find
- 21:42Speaker 1: those little one percenters that you don't even know exist,
- 21:44Speaker 1: and that's how I think he's getting the better of him.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a bit different when you say he's not
- 21:49Speaker 2: challenging his brother. The content needs to be he's maybe
- 21:51Speaker 2: not challenging his brother the way you would like, Oh,
- 21:53Speaker 2: by the way, who just happens to be one of
- 21:55Speaker 2: the best writers in the history of the World Championship.
- 21:57Speaker 2: It's not just any old sibling that you're challenging here.
- 22:00Speaker 2: But you know, it was interesting about this because this
- 22:02Speaker 2: sort of came up at Magello quite a bit, because
- 22:04Speaker 2: obviously they were run one two in the sprint there
- 22:06Speaker 2: and in the Grand Prix, and Peco actually had an
- 22:10Speaker 2: interesting comment about this where he said, well, you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: it's kind of natural to a degree, because maybe I
- 22:15Speaker 2: race the academy guys a little bit differently than i'd
- 22:17Speaker 2: raise some of the other guys, because you know, for
- 22:19Speaker 2: all intents and purposes, Morbidelli and Buzeki and Luca Marini
- 22:22Speaker 2: they're kind of brothers in inverted commas because they hang
- 22:25Speaker 2: out so much. It's kind of natural to a degree.
- 22:28Speaker 2: But I always look at the role reversal in this,
- 22:30Speaker 2: and we'll probably see this at some point this year.
- 22:34Speaker 2: You look at all these times the Marquez brothers have
- 22:35Speaker 2: finished one and two, and it's been Mark first and
- 22:37Speaker 2: Alex second, with the exception of the sprint at Silveston,
- 22:40Speaker 2: where we know Alex is really good at Silveston, a
- 22:42Speaker 2: lot of right handed courters. Not a great Mark track,
- 22:44Speaker 2: I guess, But I do wonder if you're going to
- 22:47Speaker 2: have a situation where you're going to have a fair
- 22:49Speaker 2: fight between the two of them on a track where
- 22:51Speaker 2: Mark feels pretty comfortable and Mark's coming second in that race.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I don't think there's going to be any questions as
- 22:56Speaker 2: to how hard Mark will race Alex, because I think
- 22:58Speaker 2: Mark will race everybody very, very hard, because that's how
- 23:00Speaker 2: Mark races so super interesting in that regard, I think
- 23:05Speaker 2: the disappointing part for Alex over the course of the
- 23:08Speaker 2: ass and weekend he's been he's actually really pleasantly surprised
- 23:14Speaker 2: me this year because like he's in his sixth Motor
- 23:17Speaker 2: GP season. You would think after five years, there's enough
- 23:19Speaker 2: of a body of work, we go, all right, this
- 23:21Speaker 2: guy's pretty quick. He has certain circuits that he's good at.
- 23:23Speaker 2: He'll get one or two podiums a year, and he's
- 23:26Speaker 2: probably going to finish somewhere between sixth and tenth and
- 23:28Speaker 2: the World Championship. And that's who this guy is. And
- 23:30Speaker 2: he's one Motor three and Motor two on the way through,
- 23:33Speaker 2: And if he had a different surname, we'd probably think
- 23:35Speaker 2: of him a bit differently. But I've always felt that
- 23:37Speaker 2: the Alex Marquez sort of story was kind of written.
- 23:40Speaker 2: It's really unusual for a guy who's twenty nine years
- 23:43Speaker 2: old to completely change the perception of how good you
- 23:45Speaker 2: think he's been. He has been really, really good this year. Yes,
- 23:48Speaker 2: he's got a really good bike, but he's achieved a
- 23:51Speaker 2: level of consistency that I didn't think that he had
- 23:53Speaker 2: in him to have this championship deficit balloon through an
- 23:58Speaker 2: accident that I don't know about you. I thought he
- 24:00Speaker 2: was very lucky to only get away with the injury
- 24:03Speaker 2: that he did, because that thing went so fast and
- 24:06Speaker 2: he basically fell on his face. He was lucky to
- 24:08Speaker 2: escape with a broken finger that looked bad in the moment,
- 24:12Speaker 2: and you know, so he's lucky to escape with that,
- 24:14Speaker 2: and it's you know, he'll try and come back and
- 24:16Speaker 2: do Germany, although given how good Mark is in Germany,
- 24:18Speaker 2: he probably should take that one off and stay home,
- 24:20Speaker 2: to be honest. But it's just a shame that this
- 24:22Speaker 2: amazing run of consistency was brought to an end through
- 24:26Speaker 2: something that was like a fifty to fifty you know,
- 24:29Speaker 2: just Unfortunately two riders into one place didn't really work out.
- 24:33Speaker 2: It's a shame that that amazing run that that was
- 24:35Speaker 2: sort of brought down by something like that, as opposed
- 24:37Speaker 2: to him genuinely making an error.
- 24:40Speaker 1: So my question to you is do you think he
- 24:44Speaker 1: is well and truly out of the title fight. I'm
- 24:48Speaker 1: saying that in inverted commas because of we can see
- 24:51Speaker 1: unless something happens again to Mark, I feel like he's
- 24:55Speaker 1: going to run away with this title. Whether you're a
- 24:56Speaker 1: Mark Fannier or not, you have to admit it. But
- 24:58Speaker 1: out of the title fight, are we going to start
- 25:01Speaker 1: to see if Peco Bna can get his little issues
- 25:05Speaker 1: fixed because he's still on about these issues and the
- 25:08Speaker 1: feeling and whatnot. With this injury for Alex, do you
- 25:11Speaker 1: think he's now out of it and Peco's going to
- 25:13Speaker 1: eventually jump back up to second.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I'm not actually sure that Alex was even in it
- 25:17Speaker 2: at any point. Mathematically he was in it. It was made
- 25:19Speaker 2: to look a lot closer with Mark than it was
- 25:21Speaker 2: because Mark had thrown away win at Kota, and he
- 25:24Speaker 2: crashed early at Harath and he'd given away some points there.
- 25:27Speaker 2: We've said this a few times the only person that
- 25:29Speaker 2: can beat Mark for the championship is Mark. I think
- 25:31Speaker 2: the more likely fight you're going to see as the
- 25:34Speaker 2: season progresses from here is the gap between Alex Marquez
- 25:37Speaker 2: and Bagnoay, it's probably going to narrow, and I know
- 25:40Speaker 2: there's still quite a big deficit there. But if I
- 25:42Speaker 2: had to put money on who was going to finish
- 25:44Speaker 2: second in the World Championship this year, I think it's
- 25:45Speaker 2: going to be Pecko just finishing second in the World Championship.
- 25:48Speaker 2: But as far as first goes, I just think Mark's
- 25:52Speaker 2: in a position now the points actually reflect the level
- 25:54Speaker 2: of dominance now where I don't reckon they did before.
- 25:57Speaker 2: He's been so unbelievable. Mean, he's won nine hour of
- 26:00Speaker 2: ten sprints. You know that in itself is crazy. I
- 26:02Speaker 2: think I worked it out the other day. Is one
- 26:04Speaker 2: ninety seven percent of the points you could actually win
- 26:06Speaker 2: in sprints like that. It's pretty hard to beat someone when
- 26:07Speaker 2: they're doing something like that. And like you said, like
- 26:10Speaker 2: him or dislike him, you have to admire the way
- 26:15Speaker 2: he has gone about this sort of late career chance
- 26:18Speaker 2: to rewrite his story because it's been so long and
- 26:23Speaker 2: you know it's you think about, yes, he's won those
- 26:25Speaker 2: six world titles. It's six years ago since he won
- 26:28Speaker 2: a world title. Six years you know, in anyone's life
- 26:31Speaker 2: is a long time in the life of a motorcycle rate,
- 26:33Speaker 2: so that's almost a career for a lot of guys.
- 26:35Speaker 2: So to see him doing this at this age and
- 26:37Speaker 2: given what he's gone through, it's massively, massively impressive. It's
- 26:42Speaker 2: made me rethink how I feel about Banyaia in that
- 26:47Speaker 2: I think Peco, in the right situation, with the right
- 26:50Speaker 2: bike and everything the way he wants it, is an
- 26:52Speaker 2: incredibly good motor GP rider. But maybe this is exposed
- 26:55Speaker 2: him for not being maybe as sort of versatile or
- 26:59Speaker 2: improvisation or of the other really good guys. And I
- 27:02Speaker 2: made the analogy. I think I made it. I think
- 27:05Speaker 2: I made it on this podcast. I've definitely written it.
- 27:08Speaker 2: If Mark is this generation's Casey Stoner, then Peko is
- 27:11Speaker 2: this generation Sauhala Nzo in that if everything's absolutely right
- 27:16Speaker 2: at the right time. To my mind, Pecko can be
- 27:19Speaker 2: absolutely unbeatable, as Jorge was when you'd have those weekends
- 27:22Speaker 2: where he'd qualify on pole and need you'd forget he
- 27:24Speaker 2: was in the race until they showed him crossing the
- 27:26Speaker 2: finishing line six seconds ahead of everybody. He would demoralize
- 27:30Speaker 2: everybody when everything was right. But we remember Casey. Casey
- 27:34Speaker 2: took a Jucati that no one could even ride to
- 27:37Speaker 2: a world championship in two thousand and seven, and he
- 27:39Speaker 2: was the master at just ragging bikes around and getting
- 27:43Speaker 2: wins where you know, guy's on the equivalent machinery probably couldn't.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And that's the analogy.
- 27:47Speaker 1: To me.
- 27:48Speaker 2: It's almost like we've seen this story before, but we've
- 27:50Speaker 2: just got two different people coming at it from different
- 27:52Speaker 2: angles this time.
- 27:54Speaker 1: It actually reminded me of a quote Peco Banyaya said
- 27:58Speaker 1: of when I think he won his first title with
- 28:00Speaker 1: Chikadi and he goes, yeah, I won the title, but
- 28:03Speaker 1: Mark Marquez isn't like chasing me. If Mark Marquez was
- 28:08Speaker 1: on the same bike, and I'm fully butchering this this quote,
- 28:10Speaker 1: but if Mark Marquez was on the same bike and
- 28:13Speaker 1: then I won the title, then I'd be much happier. Yeah,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I think we're kind of seeing that now. Well.
- 28:18Speaker 2: I mean, I think if you are able to be
- 28:20Speaker 2: That's why I think, in retrospect I massively rate what
- 28:24Speaker 2: Andre de Vizioso did against Mark for many years, because
- 28:27Speaker 2: there were some of those years where Mark was on
- 28:29Speaker 2: the Hounter that was the best bike, and there were
- 28:30Speaker 2: some years where it wasn't. But the fact that Davizioso,
- 28:33Speaker 2: who we never really thought of being someone who was
- 28:35Speaker 2: a real title contender until late Inny's career, he went
- 28:38Speaker 2: toe to toe with Mark for a number of years
- 28:40Speaker 2: and it was super close, and it was super tense,
- 28:43Speaker 2: and he didn't back out of fights, and he beat
- 28:45Speaker 2: him in the last battles quite a lot. And I
- 28:48Speaker 2: think Davizioso reached a level that at the time was impressive,
- 28:51Speaker 2: but I think you look back at it now, it's like, man,
- 28:52Speaker 2: that guy had a really really good career up against
- 28:56Speaker 2: a force of nature like Mark is. And you know,
- 28:59Speaker 2: in terms of Pecky think this is not the final
- 29:02Speaker 2: sort of story or destination for Pecko. I still think that,
- 29:05Speaker 2: you know, writers can still grow. We're seeing that with
- 29:07Speaker 2: some of these older guys now they keep adding things.
- 29:10Speaker 2: But I don't know, even in his worst nightmares, that
- 29:13Speaker 2: he would have expected to have had Mark come into
- 29:15Speaker 2: his team and do to him what he has done
- 29:17Speaker 2: to him over the first half of this season. And yes,
- 29:20Speaker 2: we know that Acaddy has a major advantage, but I
- 29:22Speaker 2: think reputationally, what banit does for these last what are
- 29:26Speaker 2: we looking at now? Twelve rounds is going to be
- 29:28Speaker 2: pretty significant, not just for this year but twenty six.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I sort of see twenty five and twenty six being
- 29:34Speaker 2: like one gigantic season with a Christmas break in the
- 29:36Speaker 2: middle of it, because there's not a hell of a
- 29:37Speaker 2: lot of change technically going on year on year. I
- 29:40Speaker 2: think Pecko can start his twenty twenty six season sort
- 29:43Speaker 2: of now, and he can really put some building blocks
- 29:47Speaker 2: in place to try and make twenty twenty six the
- 29:49Speaker 2: fight that we hoped that twenty five would be.
- 29:52Speaker 1: It's funny that you said that when you're just talking
- 29:54Speaker 1: about how thinking for the future. I went into a
- 29:58Speaker 1: Prilliers garage over the weekend. A darter guy used to
- 30:02Speaker 1: work with my brother now works for a Prillier. So
- 30:05Speaker 1: I went in there and he actually was meant to
- 30:07Speaker 1: work with Wallhe Martin this year. It now works with
- 30:09Speaker 1: Lorenzo Savagori, and I was asking, Okay, so Lorenzo's kind
- 30:13Speaker 1: of now a full time Moroto GP writer, which wasn't
- 30:17Speaker 1: expecting this year. I said, what does his weekends look
- 30:20Speaker 1: like because he is still a test writer and he goes,
- 30:22Speaker 1: you know what, he is still testing all the time.
- 30:25Speaker 1: He's coming into these race weekends just testing. The cool
- 30:28Speaker 1: thing is what they're doing. And this was this was
- 30:32Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon that I went in there, right before the sprint.
- 30:35Speaker 1: He goes, oh, this morning, Lorenzo was trying these new
- 30:38Speaker 1: side winglets and he really liked them. Now we're going
- 30:42Speaker 1: to put them on Marco's bike and let's see how
- 30:44Speaker 1: he goes this afternoon. What does he do? Goes and
- 30:47Speaker 1: gets on the podium, right, So I think that is
- 30:52Speaker 1: constantly you're constantly trying to approve improve Sorry, maybe this
- 30:57Speaker 1: is where Aprilia is starting to benefit from it because
- 30:59Speaker 1: they are testing all weekend. It's not like they've got
- 31:02Speaker 1: two factory riders in there who are having to go
- 31:05Speaker 1: out straight away. They've got Lorenzo there who can test
- 31:07Speaker 1: parts and grew. Yeah, this is working out this track.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Chuck that on hopefully try and get some point in
- 31:12Speaker 1: a podium place.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, as like the ultimate test laboratory. If you
- 31:16Speaker 2: want to find out if something really works, take it
- 31:18Speaker 2: out in Q one and write it as hard as
- 31:20Speaker 2: you possibly can, or put yourself in a sprint on
- 31:22Speaker 2: a Saturday or do a twenty six lap Grand Prix
- 31:24Speaker 2: on a Sunday. In some respects, as much as I'm
- 31:27Speaker 2: sure this is not what Savadori signed up for it,
- 31:30Speaker 2: I hope he's been compensated for it. Give it all
- 31:31Speaker 2: the extra work that he's doing. It might have accelerated
- 31:34Speaker 2: their improvement a little bit because you've got a guy
- 31:36Speaker 2: who's very technically adept, trying things in the heat of
- 31:42Speaker 2: a race weekend, and we know he's not out there
- 31:43Speaker 2: to finish top tens and try and get podiums and
- 31:45Speaker 2: what have you. But what he brings to the project
- 31:48Speaker 2: and sort of kicks it up the line to Bizeki
- 31:50Speaker 2: and you know, you look at what I mean. Ralph
- 31:52Speaker 2: Anders has had a couple of really strong Grand Prix
- 31:54Speaker 2: in a row, which is not something you've ever heard
- 31:57Speaker 2: me say on this podcast. But he's been really good
- 31:59Speaker 2: the last couple of weekends at Magello and at Assen,
- 32:02Speaker 2: so that a Priori a project as a whole seems
- 32:04Speaker 2: to be growing and it's impressive. And yeah, you'd have
- 32:06Speaker 2: to say internally, I'm sure Savadori's impact on this is
- 32:11Speaker 2: being recognized, but it comes back to where we started
- 32:14Speaker 2: this podcast. I would just love to see a fully
- 32:16Speaker 2: fit and fully motivated Jorge Martin on a pretty good
- 32:19Speaker 2: aprillia that's improving, because that would just give us something
- 32:22Speaker 2: something different, something something different that we haven't seen this
- 32:25Speaker 2: year at the front of some of these Grand Prix
- 32:27Speaker 2: where it does become can anyone split the de Catties
- 32:30Speaker 2: in the answers? Usually no. I would have loved to
- 32:32Speaker 2: have seen Martin on that, but I guess we'll just
- 32:35Speaker 2: have to wait for Honda to get good. Huh.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I love that you just said something different there, and
- 32:39Speaker 1: I thought that's the best segue I can go into
- 32:41Speaker 1: the next part of something different. That wasn't on my
- 32:44Speaker 1: twenty twenty five bingo card for Moto GP was the
- 32:47Speaker 1: fact of Pedro Acosta Alex Marquez collidning. We know Alex
- 32:50Speaker 1: crashing out, we understand that. But was the fact of
- 32:52Speaker 1: Pedro Acosta getting rushed to hospital directly after the races
- 32:56Speaker 1: he got sung by a bee and turns out his
- 32:59Speaker 1: highly allergic to beastings. MM.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Now I'm gonna slightly correct you here. I'm going to
- 33:04Speaker 2: slightly correct you on your insects. I heard it was
- 33:06Speaker 2: a wasp, these wasps. I don't know what they call
- 33:09Speaker 2: him in Holland, who knows, but regardless, that thing hurts.
- 33:13Speaker 2: And you think of the way these riders are so
- 33:16Speaker 2: covered up with all of the safety equipment. There's always
- 33:18Speaker 2: I find it bizarre, there's always that little gap between
- 33:21Speaker 2: the top of the leather suit and the bottom of
- 33:23Speaker 2: the helmet. And I remember, God, where was I think
- 33:26Speaker 2: it might have been Malaysia. I had to crush Low
- 33:28Speaker 2: many years ago, and he actually stopped and because this
- 33:31Speaker 2: thing was just stinging him every time he turned into
- 33:34Speaker 2: a corner, and he actually stopped and unzipped the suit,
- 33:37Speaker 2: and you saw this thing just fly out. And as
- 33:40Speaker 2: someone who is allergic to that sort of thing myself,
- 33:43Speaker 2: when I heard what had happened to a Costra on
- 33:45Speaker 2: the weekend, imagine riding one of these things around in
- 33:48Speaker 2: the heat of battle of a Grand Prix and getting
- 33:50Speaker 2: stung by something you're allergic to. He did better than me.
- 33:53Speaker 2: I wouldn't have got to the checker flag. I'd be
- 33:55Speaker 2: out of there, quite frankly. But that was horrible. But
- 33:59Speaker 2: you had the bizarre situation on Sunday where I'm sure
- 34:02Speaker 2: all the media we're talking about this in the press room.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Everyone wanted to talk to Alex Marquez to find out
- 34:06Speaker 2: what had happened in the incident with a Costa. He
- 34:08Speaker 2: was off to Madrid to get his finger fixed after
- 34:10Speaker 2: eating me had broken that finger, and then a Costa
- 34:12Speaker 2: was off in the hospital getting shot up with antihistamines
- 34:15Speaker 2: because he was allergic to wasps. So no one actually
- 34:18Speaker 2: got to speak to the two protagonists in this accident.
- 34:20Speaker 2: That's kind of changed the shape at the front of
- 34:22Speaker 2: the World Chairbyship. So I guess we'll have to wait
- 34:24Speaker 2: till Saxon rigged to hear from both of them.
- 34:26Speaker 1: It's funny that that happened. Everyone's talking about it because
- 34:29Speaker 1: I actually saw Jake Dixon before Magello and they were
- 34:33Speaker 1: testing Momoto too in Catalogna directly after where were we
- 34:38Speaker 1: before Aragon? And so he goes look at my back
- 34:42Speaker 1: and there's just Weltz, like what happened? Same thing. A
- 34:46Speaker 1: beer or a mosc or whatever got down his leather
- 34:49Speaker 1: suit as well, and I don't know, you guys can
- 34:51Speaker 1: see it at home when you're watching, like these suits
- 34:54Speaker 1: are tight, they've got inners on underneath, like there's not
- 34:57Speaker 1: much in there. So you know how pesky. There's all
- 34:59Speaker 1: insects be somehow they're making their way into riders suits
- 35:02Speaker 1: as well, which is not what you want when you're
- 35:05Speaker 1: out on track doing god knows what speed. But the
- 35:08Speaker 1: other news, let's talk about Fabera Cordorraro also taking pole,
- 35:12Speaker 1: which I saw a Marco Bezzeki celebrating, going, yeah, give
- 35:16Speaker 1: it to the jew caddies. We don't want to know
- 35:18Speaker 1: the jew caddi pole. So but then hearing what Jack
- 35:22Speaker 1: was saying post race and looking at Fabio Fabruao, he's
- 35:26Speaker 1: mastering this one lap random pulling something out of a hat.
- 35:30Speaker 1: But then the Yamahas are just struggling still.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, it's two things with the Yamaha. It doesn't
- 35:36Speaker 2: get off the line fantastically and it struggles to pass
- 35:40Speaker 2: other bikes still. So you know, unless you're on a
- 35:42Speaker 2: circuit where you can get a half decent getaway and
- 35:44Speaker 2: block for the best part of a lap, which you
- 35:46Speaker 2: definitely can't do it acc't. His Q two laps are
- 35:50Speaker 2: almost the most fun thing in motor GP right now,
- 35:52Speaker 2: because you know he's so far over the limit. You
- 35:54Speaker 2: look at where all the other other Yamahas are. But
- 35:56Speaker 2: then you're almost not surprised anymore what he pulls one
- 35:59Speaker 2: of these out, because if it was anyone else, you'd say,
- 36:01Speaker 2: that's remarkable, what an absolutely ridiculous lap. And when he
- 36:05Speaker 2: does it, we will just look at each other and say, well,
- 36:07Speaker 2: that's just Fabio Couaturero, because to my mind he is
- 36:10Speaker 2: the second best rider in Murder GP. We just don't
- 36:12Speaker 2: get to see it because of what he's actually riding.
- 36:14Speaker 2: But it's a good one lap qualifying bike in the
- 36:17Speaker 2: right hands, but it still can't race, and that's the
- 36:20Speaker 2: issue with that bike at the moment. It was pretty telling.
- 36:23Speaker 2: I thought that Miguel Olivera was out early in the
- 36:25Speaker 2: Grand Prix because he had some accident damage from the
- 36:27Speaker 2: first lap. But the Amahas basically Quaturo fell out of
- 36:31Speaker 2: the top ten and then they just ran around in line.
- 36:33Speaker 2: At the back end of the top ten, they're all
- 36:35Speaker 2: together and they could sort of scrap with each other.
- 36:37Speaker 2: They couldn't pas anybody else, and they just ran around
- 36:40Speaker 2: and finished a sort of sad tenth, twelve and thirteen
- 36:43Speaker 2: or whatever it was. In the end they were kind
- 36:45Speaker 2: of nowhere. So it was a bit of a track
- 36:47Speaker 2: that exposed the race pace and overtaking problems that they have,
- 36:51Speaker 2: but in as a one lap bike in Quataurero's hands,
- 36:55Speaker 2: it's pretty electrifying. The only sad part about it for me,
- 36:58Speaker 2: I got to say when they were trunkling around at
- 36:59Speaker 2: the back into the top ten and so we didn't
- 37:01Speaker 2: get too many TV shots at that awesome livery that
- 37:03Speaker 2: they ran at essence, because that thing was absolutely beautiful.
- 37:06Speaker 2: We just had to rely on still photos or social
- 37:08Speaker 2: media to look at it.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Oh Honestly, that was one thing I was going to
- 37:11Speaker 1: bring up next. I'm glad you did. Is you know
- 37:13Speaker 1: we saw the livery that a lot of the Italian
- 37:16Speaker 1: teams had in Michello and it's like, okay, I see
- 37:19Speaker 1: the thought like especially do Caddie with the renaissance and
- 37:22Speaker 1: all that. Then you see the retro, the retro Yamahas
- 37:27Speaker 1: and everyone was just going, no one does it like
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yamaha with that retro white and red the color scheme. Oh.
- 37:35Speaker 1: I got to go and see the bike up close,
- 37:37Speaker 1: and I took some quick social video for Fox Motorsport
- 37:41Speaker 1: on their socials and seeing it in person. Then when
- 37:44Speaker 1: you see the boys come out in their leather suits
- 37:46Speaker 1: and even Fabio had like the old school, like early
- 37:49Speaker 1: two thousand sunnies, like they were really trying to throw
- 37:52Speaker 1: it back. This weekend it was Yamaha do it well
- 37:55Speaker 1: with their retro liveries. I'm thinking back Silverstone last year
- 37:58Speaker 1: at the Yeah.
- 37:59Speaker 2: That's exactly I was about to say, Yeah, they've got
- 38:02Speaker 2: the history, They've got a successful history. There's something about
- 38:05Speaker 2: just the purity of that white livery like these some
- 38:07Speaker 2: of these liveries are so cluttered and convoluted these days.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Some of the ones in Italy by the Italian teams
- 38:14Speaker 2: were honestly like nice idea, but there was the execution thing,
- 38:19Speaker 2: and you've got Picko Mark playing chess and I don't
- 38:21Speaker 2: know there was I don't know what was going on.
- 38:24Speaker 2: It was a bit of a mess, quite frankly. And
- 38:25Speaker 2: the VR forty six ones looked like someone had just
- 38:27Speaker 2: tipped a bunch of paint cans over and rolled the
- 38:29Speaker 2: bikes in it. They were pretty revolting. But yeah, the
- 38:31Speaker 2: classy classic Yamaha livery. If if only it was as
- 38:35Speaker 2: fast as it as it looks good But anyway, beautiful
- 38:38Speaker 2: livery just not very fast.
- 38:40Speaker 1: At assen No, they're trying to make headlines elsewhere at
- 38:43Speaker 1: the moment, which I think is good on them. They're trying.
- 38:46Speaker 1: But Jack is also now off to Japan for the
- 38:49Speaker 1: Suzuka eight Hour that is coming up soon. I know
- 38:52Speaker 1: all your listeners if you're interested, that that is going
- 38:55Speaker 1: to be on Fox Sports and KO. So I'll keep
- 38:57Speaker 1: you up today with all the news that comes from
- 38:59Speaker 1: the Suzuka eight Hours. Now. I mentioned earlier this weekend
- 39:03Speaker 1: the amount of crashes at Assen and how was that
- 39:07Speaker 1: crash in Moto three. I think it was for a start,
- 39:09Speaker 1: I got run over in the end or how he
- 39:12Speaker 1: walked away from that. If you haven't seen it, I
- 39:14Speaker 1: highly recommend going watching it because Okay, we don't want
- 39:17Speaker 1: to promote crashes, but this this was like Jack Miller
- 39:20Speaker 1: Malaysia last year style crash.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Yeah, major and anytime, I mean Moto three, you could
- 39:25Speaker 2: throw a blanket over the top ten most races, at
- 39:28Speaker 2: most tracks. There's something about that last sequence, the last
- 39:31Speaker 2: sector at Acid and that chicane, the GT chicane at
- 39:35Speaker 2: the end of the lap. It's just a magnet for
- 39:37Speaker 2: things happening like this. And the thing that was I
- 39:39Speaker 2: was surprised about was they eventually red flag that race,
- 39:42Speaker 2: but not until the field was almost in the chicade
- 39:44Speaker 2: on the last lap. Like that was a little bit
- 39:46Speaker 2: on that questionable side. But I think Luca Lenetto, if
- 39:49Speaker 2: I remember rightly, is broken a tibia, so he's going
- 39:51Speaker 2: to clearly be out for a while. But that was
- 39:53Speaker 2: a nasty, nasty accident. But Moto three and Assen it's
- 39:57Speaker 2: almost to be expected.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I think, well, that's the thing. I did a track
- 40:01Speaker 1: walk with Snags our Aussie and Moto two just to
- 40:04Speaker 1: take me through a lap of acid because this circuit
- 40:06Speaker 1: is so interesting in the fact that it's old school.
- 40:09Speaker 1: There's a lot of on and off camber, which he
- 40:11Speaker 1: called one of the corners like NASCAR now, it's not
- 40:14Speaker 1: quite on the same lean angle, but he goes it
- 40:16Speaker 1: feels like it. So if you're wondering why this track
- 40:19Speaker 1: is like that and often provides some of the best racing,
- 40:23Speaker 1: it's because of the track layout and how it is
- 40:26Speaker 1: and now it's it's definitely changed a lot over the years.
- 40:28Speaker 1: But if you're interested in that track walk that is
- 40:30Speaker 1: on our YouTube channel, you can head to YouTube dot
- 40:33Speaker 1: com slash Fox Sports Australia and you'll be able to
- 40:36Speaker 1: find that but yeah, let's look about the Moto III
- 40:39Speaker 1: results for our Aussie's. We know that Jack Miller on Sunday,
- 40:42Speaker 1: he was p. Fourteen in the end, so not the
- 40:45Speaker 1: results that he was after. But like I said, Jack's
- 40:48Speaker 1: on his way to Suzuka anyway for the Suzuka eight Hours,
- 40:53Speaker 1: which is an endurance race, totally different style of racing.
- 40:57Speaker 1: But in Moto two we had Diego Morrera take his
- 41:00Speaker 1: is a first win, so that's like the first Brazilian
- 41:03Speaker 1: I think, to take a Moto two win in Emma
- 41:06Speaker 1: in the history. Soa ag is not the top ten
- 41:09Speaker 1: performance for Center. Now we caught up with him as well, Matt,
- 41:11Speaker 1: You've written an article that's gonna come out by the
- 41:14Speaker 1: time this is ed on Center and where he's going.
- 41:17Speaker 1: What's your thoughts on the Aussie youngster this year. It
- 41:20Speaker 1: seems like he's made a big jump from his rookie
- 41:24Speaker 1: year now in his second year.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. I mean he's already scored more points this
- 41:28Speaker 2: season than he scored the whole of his rookie season,
- 41:30Speaker 2: which we're not even at the halfway point. So that's
- 41:32Speaker 2: impressive enough in itself, and obviously the headliner of that
- 41:35Speaker 2: is the mad last couple of quarters at Silverston that
- 41:38Speaker 2: I think you were at a stairwell had missed, but
- 41:40Speaker 2: Obvio certainly at the TV back here. But he's he's
- 41:44Speaker 2: maturing pretty quickly, and a lot of the sort of
- 41:49Speaker 2: standard rookie things, inconsistency and you know, not being able
- 41:52Speaker 2: to put together entire weekends. He's so much better than
- 41:55Speaker 2: that now. I think the key thing for me, I
- 41:57Speaker 2: was crunching some numbers before. He's only had one race
- 41:59Speaker 2: this season where he has a scored points, so he's
- 42:01Speaker 2: always there and for him to be sixth in the
- 42:04Speaker 2: championship at the moment looking he's obviously got the world
- 42:06Speaker 2: championship leader as his teammate. This is Mado Gonzalez's fourth
- 42:10Speaker 2: year in Moto two, so he's got double the experience,
- 42:13Speaker 2: and that team's clearly got a good bike and they're
- 42:15Speaker 2: operating well. But I think as that team has got
- 42:17Speaker 2: better in the bike has got better, Senn has risen
- 42:19Speaker 2: with that. I think that's a really good sign. If
- 42:22Speaker 2: you look at the potential of what he's got underneath him,
- 42:24Speaker 2: he's living up to that potential. He's doing really really well.
- 42:28Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of optimism as to I
- 42:31Speaker 2: don't think he's anywhere near as good as he's going
- 42:33Speaker 2: to be. I think that's the interesting part for the
- 42:35Speaker 2: Australian fans in that, Yeah, there's a lot of promise there,
- 42:37Speaker 2: but it feels like his Sea leagu's quite high. So yeah,
- 42:40Speaker 2: having a really really solid season. And yes, when I
- 42:43Speaker 2: get round to finishing this story, everyone else could actually
- 42:45Speaker 2: read it as well.
- 42:47Speaker 1: And let's go to our Aussies in Moto through. We've
- 42:50Speaker 1: got Joel Kelso who crossed the line in p nine
- 42:52Speaker 1: and Jacob Rilestone in at twelfth as well. So I
- 42:56Speaker 1: didn't get much of a chance to catch up with
- 42:58Speaker 1: Joel this weekend. But if you haven't watched that Moto
- 43:01Speaker 1: three race, I highly recommend it purely just because it's
- 43:04Speaker 1: normally we see that big group of Moto three writers
- 43:07Speaker 1: like that top ten, top fifteen, but for whatever reason, Asen,
- 43:11Speaker 1: it just gives the whole pack together the whole entire time,
- 43:14Speaker 1: and it's just like a little swarm of bees. What
- 43:16Speaker 1: is it with bees?
- 43:16Speaker 2: As we can But yeah, I know it's funny, isn't it,
- 43:19Speaker 2: Like Moto three at Asen, like they're all in the
- 43:21Speaker 2: same TV shot in the last five laps, which is
- 43:23Speaker 2: completely insane when you think of the field spread, like
- 43:25Speaker 2: they're basically all in the same frame on the TV.
- 43:28Speaker 2: But it's funny, isn't it. Like as chaotic and as
- 43:31Speaker 2: mad cap as those Moto three races are, and then
- 43:33Speaker 2: the same guy ends up winning most of them in
- 43:35Speaker 2: Jose Antonio Rueda, who's just putting together this awesome season
- 43:38Speaker 2: of winning races. When you look at it and think, oh,
- 43:40Speaker 2: he's seventh, he might be in a bit of trouble here.
- 43:42Speaker 2: He just works this way through. There's a bit of
- 43:44Speaker 2: a David Alonzo going on there with him this year,
- 43:46Speaker 2: isn't there? There?
- 43:47Speaker 1: Definitely is. I think we're going to see a lot
- 43:50Speaker 1: from Rueida in the future. But another writer who I
- 43:53Speaker 1: hope that we get to see a bit more of
- 43:55Speaker 1: in the future is our Aussie Carter Thompson, who Matt
- 43:58Speaker 1: you wrote an article about on Fox sports dot com
- 44:02Speaker 1: or a four slash Motorsport, And I caught up with
- 44:04Speaker 1: him in Migello because we haven't caught up since Michello
- 44:06Speaker 1: either as well. And let's talk about Carter real quick.
- 44:11Speaker 1: So if those who haven't heard Carter, I think you
- 44:13Speaker 1: should definitely keep an eye on him because the o
- 44:15Speaker 1: a youngster competing in at the Red Bull Rookies Cup,
- 44:18Speaker 1: but at the same time he's doing the World Supersport
- 44:21Speaker 1: three hundred. So this kid's riding in two different championships
- 44:24Speaker 1: on two different, completely different bikes, and he's a race
- 44:29Speaker 1: winner in both, which I think is just phenomenal for
- 44:31Speaker 1: this young teenager who just seems to be When I
- 44:35Speaker 1: spoke to him, he's just happy, friendly, just just loving it.
- 44:38Speaker 1: And talking to the head of the Red Bull Rookies
- 44:40Speaker 1: there he goes, Oh, Carter is just making waves this year.
- 44:43Speaker 1: He's really getting that consistency and putting his way through.
- 44:47Speaker 1: But what's your thoughts on Carter so far this year, Matt.
- 44:50Speaker 2: I think there's the word to use with him is uncomplicated,
- 44:55Speaker 2: and that's that's that's actually a really high I think
- 44:57Speaker 2: you mentioned that he's riding two really different vibes in
- 45:00Speaker 2: two really different series. Obviously, the goal is to get
- 45:02Speaker 2: into the World Championship, and we've seen that Redbel Rookies
- 45:05Speaker 2: is this pathway to get into Moto three and then
- 45:07Speaker 2: we go from there. But you know, it's a pretty
- 45:10Speaker 2: full plate that he's got with these different different bikes
- 45:13Speaker 2: in different parts.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Of the world.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Every single weekend he's doing something different, but he's very
- 45:17Speaker 2: sort of matter of fact and methodical about it, and
- 45:20Speaker 2: there's like a maturity to him that you have to remember,
- 45:22Speaker 2: you're listening to a seventeen year old, You're not listening
- 45:24Speaker 2: to a twenty three year old. So maybe that just
- 45:27Speaker 2: comes from being so far away from home and out
- 45:29Speaker 2: of your comfort zone and all those sorts of things.
- 45:30Speaker 2: But he's just really well put together. He know what
- 45:33Speaker 2: he wants. He's very uncomplicated about everything, and you'd have
- 45:36Speaker 2: to say, I mean, look, Red Bull rookies can be
- 45:39Speaker 2: rebel rookies, makes Moto three look tame sometimes because those
- 45:42Speaker 2: races are absolutely mental half the time. No better place
- 45:47Speaker 2: to showcase what you've got than under the nose of
- 45:50Speaker 2: the World Championship. Paddick as a support race category at
- 45:52Speaker 2: some of these weekends in Europe, So you've got to say,
- 45:55Speaker 2: given how far he's come from and what it is
- 45:57Speaker 2: that he's riding, and you would have got a sense
- 45:58Speaker 2: of this when you spoke to him, just a sense
- 46:00Speaker 2: of sort of calm about the way that he does it,
- 46:02Speaker 2: which I think is super impressive.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Yes, what I mean, he seems really put together. Yeah,
- 46:08Speaker 1: but he is an ozzie teenager at the same time,
- 46:10Speaker 1: which is so cool to see. His mum was there
- 46:13Speaker 1: as well. She's traveling with him. Dad's back home and
- 46:15Speaker 1: I was working, you know, to help support his racing career,
- 46:19Speaker 1: and it's cool to see you forget you know, you
- 46:22Speaker 1: see Jack, and you see Senna and these guys who
- 46:24Speaker 1: are in the World Championship and they're on the big screen.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Then you see Carter and what his family are doing.
- 46:30Speaker 1: And Red Bull Rookies O. We definitely don't give it
- 46:33Speaker 1: enough talk because there's obviously so much always happening in
- 46:36Speaker 1: the Moto GP paddock. But if you guys haven't watched
- 46:38Speaker 1: a Red Bull Rookies race, you can watch it. It's
- 46:40Speaker 1: on KO I believe it's on Fox Sports as well,
- 46:43Speaker 1: so do check it out and keep your eye on
- 46:45Speaker 1: Carter Thompson because I think he's going to be our
- 46:47Speaker 1: next Moto three, hopefully race winner and world champion in
- 46:52Speaker 1: the future. But Matt, I think that pretty much wraps
- 46:56Speaker 1: up our big catch up from post Magello and obviously
- 46:59Speaker 1: the as in Grand Prix, we have a little weekend
- 47:02Speaker 1: off where we have the Silverstone f one or your
- 47:04Speaker 1: four wheel fans. You have more racing, then we will
- 47:08Speaker 1: be back with the Saxon Ring. And I am just
- 47:11Speaker 1: going to call it now the King of the Ring.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Mark Marquez is for sure going to return to Saxon Ring.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Right as soon as you said Saxon Ring, I just
- 47:19Speaker 2: started leaning left because I think I'm just going to
- 47:21Speaker 2: be turning left and more left and more left. For
- 47:23Speaker 2: what is it, ten out of the thirteen corners turn left.
- 47:26Speaker 2: It is a really ridiculous racetrack for Motor GP and
- 47:29Speaker 2: I'm glad there's not more than one of them, but
- 47:31Speaker 2: as an outlier in a twenty two round season, I
- 47:34Speaker 2: do quite enjoy it because it's something very very different.
- 47:37Speaker 2: But something's very very different will be anyone other than
- 47:40Speaker 2: Mark Marquez winning there because a track that's got undulation
- 47:43Speaker 2: and turns left a lot that's almost like He's absolute Nirvana,
- 47:46Speaker 2: isn't it?
- 47:47Speaker 1: Mark Marquez is a form of Heaven, I guess. But guys,
- 47:51Speaker 1: you can catch all the Motor GP action and if
- 47:54Speaker 1: you want to watch Formula One you can do so
- 47:56Speaker 1: on Fox Sports and KO. This podcast, as always, is
- 47:59Speaker 1: brought to you by Shannon's Insurance and I know we've
- 48:02Speaker 1: mentioned a lot of Matt's articles. If you want to
- 48:04Speaker 1: read those, they are on foxsports dot com dot au, Forward,
- 48:07Speaker 1: Slash Motorsport, and you can keep up to date with
- 48:10Speaker 1: all the latest on our socials as well at Fox
- 48:13Speaker 1: Motorsport on all the platforms. I've taken you guys behind
- 48:15Speaker 1: the scenes as much as I can during this European adventure.
- 48:19Speaker 1: But Matt, thank you so much for chatting with me
- 48:21Speaker 1: about MotoGP and guys, we're going to be back real
- 48:24Speaker 1: soon with more Moto GP pit talk.
