- 0:00Speaker 1: Mr.
- 0:00Speaker 2: New York.
- 0:01Speaker 3: Here's more Mark Simone on 710WOR. Well, hey, we'll get
- 0:09Speaker 3: to that crazy Ed Sheeran.
- 0:11Speaker 2: We'll get to AI. We'll get to the White House
- 0:14Speaker 2: and the press. And we'll get to Mamdani and the
- 0:17Speaker 2: UN and a whole lot more. It's Monday. Final full
- 0:21Speaker 2: day of summer. Autumn begins tomorrow night. 8 p.m it
- 0:26Speaker 2: officially is autumn it's going to be in the 60s
- 0:29Speaker 2: the rest of the week uh president trump coming to
- 0:32Speaker 2: new york he'll be here about four o'clock uh it's
- 0:36Speaker 2: going to be a traffic nightmare first stop is gracie
- 0:39Speaker 2: mansion so uh it's a holiday today and it's also
- 0:42Speaker 2: a monday where most people don't come into the office
- 0:44Speaker 2: so it's a lighter traffic day anyway but uh he's
- 0:49Speaker 2: going to be coming in uh from the airport and
- 0:52Speaker 2: he'll come to the Upper East Side, Gracie Mansion in
- 0:54Speaker 2: the 80s on the east side. That will completely close
- 0:58Speaker 2: up streets around there. Then he meets with President Macron
- 1:03Speaker 2: of France. Then he comes down towards Midtown for six
- 1:10Speaker 2: o'clock tonight is a RNC donor meeting reception, 150,000 a
- 1:15Speaker 2: ticket and up. Then from there he goes to the
- 1:20Speaker 2: big MAGA Inc. dinner. Big gala dinner tonight. Spend the
- 1:27Speaker 2: night in New York. And then tomorrow he's going to
- 1:31Speaker 2: try to meet with Zelensky. He's going to try to
- 1:33Speaker 2: meet with other leaders at the U.N. It's the big U.N.
- 1:37Speaker 2: General Assembly all week. Street closures. Absolute nightmare. Hey, this
- 1:43Speaker 2: crazy Ed Sheeran, you know, he's the nicest guy, Ed Sheeran.
- 1:47Speaker 2: When it comes to the music world, nobody nicer than
- 1:49Speaker 2: Ed Sheeran. I don't know. He got himself into this mess.
- 1:52Speaker 2: He picks this crazy anti-Semite Macklemore to be the opening act.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Everybody's blaming the promoter, saying it wasn't Ed Sheeran. It
- 2:01Speaker 2: was the promoter. He got stuck with this. Ed Sheeran's
- 2:04Speaker 2: a pretty big guy. He can decide who his opening
- 2:07Speaker 2: act is. But Macklemore, terrible anti-Semite. He's been seen dressed
- 2:13Speaker 2: in Nazi costumes. Remember that time he dressed as an
- 2:16Speaker 2: Orthodox rabbi? Horrible anti-Semitic looking costume. So Macklemore's off the
- 2:24Speaker 2: tour because the stadium owners, Robert Kraft and others, wouldn't
- 2:27Speaker 2: let him appear there. So they had to drop him
- 2:28Speaker 2: from the tour. Ed Sheeran getting all kinds of flack
- 2:31Speaker 2: in Ireland. They stopped playing his music on the radio.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Fans returned tickets. He's all upset. So big headline today.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Ed Sheeran says his family abandoned him. He's coming out
- 2:47Speaker 2: on stage talking about how he lost his family, his friends.
- 2:50Speaker 2: He comes out on stage crying. He's got to stop this.
- 2:55Speaker 2: He looks ridiculous. Stop whining and crying. He needs the
- 3:00Speaker 2: Godfather to slap him and say, you can act like
- 3:03Speaker 2: a man. Stop crying. Stop apologizing. Look at Bill Maher.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Let me play this again. I'm going to play this
- 3:11Speaker 2: every hour. This is Bill Maher's Friday night.
- 3:14Speaker 4: I think Macklemore spoke for all clueless celebrities when he said,
- 3:18Speaker 4: I know enough to know this is a genocide.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Actually, you don't know s * * t.
- 3:22Speaker 1: It's not.
- 3:24Speaker 2: It's not a genocide.
- 3:26Speaker 4: It's a counterattack in a war, a war that's been
- 3:29Speaker 4: waged on Israel since 1948 based on the ridiculous premise
- 3:33Speaker 4: that Jews don't belong in the one place on earth
- 3:36Speaker 4: they are indigenous and indisputably their ancestral homeland. Hey, geniuses,
- 3:41Speaker 4: they're the Indians in this scenario.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Ed Sheeran, either say nothing or say that. But
- 3:50Speaker 2: he comes out on stage. Now he becomes anti-Semitic. He
- 3:53Speaker 2: starts spewing this anti-Semitic nonsense about Israel. And then he
- 3:57Speaker 2: starts crying. Listen to Ed Sheeran.
- 3:59Speaker 5: This wasn't the easy option tonight.
- 4:01Speaker 6: I didn't know what was going to happen. I heard
- 4:03Speaker 6: all sorts of things were going to happen. I didn't
- 4:06Speaker 6: know whether I'd be safe or you'd be safe or
- 4:10Speaker 6: things would be.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Thrown at me, people would boo.
- 4:13Speaker 4: And I walked it.
- 4:14Speaker 6: I felt so much love from you guys.
- 4:18Speaker 5: And I'm so grateful.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Okay, okay, that's good. That part's good. But then, I
- 4:30Speaker 2: don't know what happened to this guy. He starts getting
- 4:32Speaker 2: into all this stuff. I'm trying to find, oh, here
- 4:35Speaker 2: it is. Here's more.
- 4:36Speaker 6: My concerts have always been a safe space for everyone,
- 4:40Speaker 6: and that matters hugely to me. Honoring my commitment to
- 4:44Speaker 6: my fans is also.
- 4:45Speaker 2: See, the other thing, he has a British accent. You
- 4:47Speaker 2: always sound like a genius with a British accent. I mean,
- 4:50Speaker 2: it's Ed Sheeran. I mean, this is not Einstein. But
- 4:53Speaker 2: you sound like a genius with a British accent.
- 4:55Speaker 6: Completely central to who I am. And that is why
- 4:58Speaker 6: I'm here tonight on my own and continuing my current tour.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Okay, that's good. That's very good. But then.
- 5:10Speaker 6: What happened in Israel and at the Nova Music Festival
- 5:13Speaker 6: on October 7th was horrific and compounded centuries of Jewish pain.
- 5:18Speaker 6: What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate.
- 5:25Speaker 6: My heart has been broken by the scale of devastation
- 5:28Speaker 6: and loss of civilians' lives, of children's lives.
- 5:32Speaker 2: All right, that's where you lose everybody, Ed Sheeran. It's unjustified.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It's a counterattack. It's unjustified. Israel is not running around
- 5:41Speaker 2: raping women and killing babies, as Hamas did. That's where
- 5:46Speaker 2: he loses everybody.
- 5:47Speaker 6: I have tried in my career not to be a
- 5:49Speaker 6: political commentator of any kind.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Well, this might be a good time to continue that policy.
- 5:54Speaker 6: Because I want my music and shows to be about unity,
- 5:57Speaker 6: not division. About humanity, not politics.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah, well.
- 6:02Speaker 6: I don't want to disappoint fans, and I've never wanted
- 6:05Speaker 6: to be an activist musician, but this has put me
- 6:07Speaker 6: in the middle of an important and passionate argument about
- 6:10Speaker 6: freedom of speech and the most complex political issue on
- 6:13Speaker 6: the planet.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why you should stay the hell out of it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: First of all, you... He has no idea where Israel is.
- 6:18Speaker 2: He couldn't find it on a map. He knows nothing
- 6:19Speaker 2: about Gaza, Hamas. He's just trying to worm his way
- 6:24Speaker 2: out of this and doesn't know how to do it.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Ed Sheeran interviewed later. He said, it's been horrific. It's
- 6:31Speaker 2: been awful. I've lost friends. I've lost family. That's everybody.
- 6:36Speaker 2: That's everybody when it comes to Trump, when it comes
- 6:38Speaker 2: to Israel. Everybody's lost friends over it. That's why I
- 6:42Speaker 2: always tell you, do not ever talk about politics with anybody. Ever.
- 6:48Speaker 2: There's no reason to. You love politics? Listen to shows
- 6:52Speaker 2: like this. Listen to whatever you listen to. Read whatever.
- 6:55Speaker 2: You don't have to discuss it with people in a bar.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Don't discuss it over a dinner table. Don't discuss it
- 7:01Speaker 2: at a party. Don't discuss it. It's just going to
- 7:04Speaker 2: cause you trouble. There's nothing to gain from it. You
- 7:08Speaker 2: don't need every idiot's opinion on everything. Just stay the
- 7:12Speaker 2: hell away from it. But Ed Sheeran, we'll see. I
- 7:18Speaker 2: think he recovers from this. You know what? Just sing.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Put out great records. Put out a new album. Have
- 7:25Speaker 2: it be a big success. And you'll do just fine. Hey,
- 7:29Speaker 2: President Trump, you know, he wants to build that big
- 7:33Speaker 2: arch in Washington, D.C. It's actually a pretty good idea.
- 7:36Speaker 2: It would dominate a good chunk of the D.C. skyline.
- 7:40Speaker 2: When they say skyline, they're talking about three, four stories.
- 7:43Speaker 2: But it would look great. I know, he wants to
- 7:47Speaker 2: put his name on it. All right, that's not so great.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Keep your name off it. Just build the arch. But
- 7:54Speaker 2: just because it's him, if it were Obama, if it
- 7:56Speaker 2: were Biden, Democrats would love this arch. They would be donating.
- 8:00Speaker 2: They would be pushing for it. They would be hailing
- 8:03Speaker 2: him as a genius for coming up with the arch.
- 8:05Speaker 2: But it's Trump, so they're all opposed to it. And
- 8:08Speaker 2: President Trump says now it will double as a top-grade
- 8:11Speaker 2: military complex. It will house, store drones, snipers, both on
- 8:18Speaker 2: the roof and plaza areas. It'll hold large quantities of
- 8:21Speaker 2: sniper ammunition in storage. You know, he keeps falling back
- 8:28Speaker 2: on the same excuse. Well, we have military. You can't
- 8:31Speaker 2: keep saying everything's also going to be military. That excuse
- 8:35Speaker 2: doesn't work. If you need to store large amounts of ammunition,
- 8:39Speaker 2: there's like 700,000 other buildings in Washington, D.C. And it's
- 8:46Speaker 2: the home of the U.S. military, the Pentagon, every, I'm
- 8:48Speaker 2: sure they got places right now where they can store
- 8:50Speaker 2: all the ammunition. Right now, the ammunition is being stored somewhere.
- 8:54Speaker 2: And why would you put it in an arch? It's
- 8:55Speaker 2: going to be a big tourist thing. A million tourists
- 8:58Speaker 2: will be around that arch. So the last place you
- 9:00Speaker 2: want to have to go to get your ammunition out.
- 9:02Speaker 2: So that part doesn't make much sense. Ukraine, largest attack
- 9:07Speaker 2: ever on Moscow. A thousand drones hit Moscow. One thousand drones. Now,
- 9:14Speaker 2: you remember Ukraine begging us for drones, begging us for missiles. Well,
- 9:20Speaker 2: over the last two years, they built their own drone factories.
- 9:22Speaker 2: They are now the biggest drone manufacturer in the world.
- 9:26Speaker 2: They're turning out the biggest, most powerful drones in their
- 9:28Speaker 2: own factories worldwide. So they got an endless supply. So
- 9:32Speaker 2: in this attack, this is right in Moscow, right in
- 9:34Speaker 2: the middle of Moscow, 1,000 drones hit Moscow. 1,000 drones. Now,
- 9:42Speaker 2: on the other hand, it killed two people. In the
- 9:43Speaker 2: middle of a major city, 1,000 drones and they only
- 9:46Speaker 2: killed two people. But they went all over the country
- 9:50Speaker 2: and they went all over Moscow. The mayor of Moscow
- 9:54Speaker 2: said 450 of the drones had been destroyed, shot down
- 9:58Speaker 2: en route. Okay, that's possible. He said the unprecedented attack
- 10:03Speaker 2: on the capital was to disrupt their elections. They were
- 10:05Speaker 2: having an election. Of course, there's no opposition there. When
- 10:10Speaker 2: you're Putin or whoever and you run, there's no opposition.
- 10:13Speaker 2: So it's not the most crucial election in the world. Uh,
- 10:18Speaker 2: Obama bashing Trump for, uh, uh, not doing enough about AI.
- 10:23Speaker 2: You know, he's big on it. He's, he's the one
- 10:25Speaker 2: quietly behind the scenes that orchestrated this whole AI thing.
- 10:28Speaker 2: They think it's going to be a big thing for
- 10:30Speaker 2: the midterms. Climate change isn't working. Uh, they've been polling it,
- 10:34Speaker 2: focus grouping it. Climate change isn't scaring anybody anymore. It's
- 10:38Speaker 2: just not working. So they came up with this whole
- 10:40Speaker 2: AI thing and it was all orchestrated carefully. Obama was
- 10:45Speaker 2: the one running around from one meeting to another. getting
- 10:49Speaker 2: this done. The four big AI companies, they're all very
- 10:52Speaker 2: close to Obama, very close, have been for years. So
- 10:57Speaker 2: they came up with a bunch of incidents of how
- 11:00Speaker 2: the AI was escaping from their control and taking over.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And they brought out these four incidents to scare everybody.
- 11:09Speaker 2: But now there's all sides of insiders and whistleblowers within
- 11:13Speaker 2: these AI companies who are coming forward and saying these
- 11:16Speaker 2: incidents have been ridiculously oversold. The one they talked about
- 11:21Speaker 2: where it broke out of the sandbox, they create a
- 11:23Speaker 2: sandbox around the AI so it can't get out. The
- 11:27Speaker 2: one where it got out, whistleblowers are now saying they
- 11:29Speaker 2: deliberately didn't build the sandbox correctly. They deliberately left holes
- 11:34Speaker 2: in it so the AI could escape it. And they're
- 11:36Speaker 2: doing this for the other incidents. Remember the first whistleblower
- 11:40Speaker 2: that the AI guys had? Turned out he'd only worked
- 11:43Speaker 2: there like four weeks. But these guys have been there forever,
- 11:47Speaker 2: these whistleblowers now. They're coming forward and saying these incidents
- 11:53Speaker 2: they've described were actually set up. They were engineered so
- 11:57Speaker 2: that it would happen. And they could use them. Now,
- 12:00Speaker 2: to say that President Trump's doing nothing about AI. Nothing
- 12:04Speaker 2: about AI.
- 12:05Speaker 5: You just can't come to the White House press briefings anymore.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Oh, that's another one. Forget that. We'll get to that
- 12:12Speaker 2: in a minute.
- 12:12Speaker 5: But.
- 12:15Speaker 2: President Trump did set up something called AI Force, and
- 12:19Speaker 2: he created an AI czar on Saturday to keep the
- 12:22Speaker 2: industry from engaging in bad practices. AI Force will patrol
- 12:26Speaker 2: the whole thing. As I mentioned before, Anthropic and these
- 12:30Speaker 2: other companies have set up super PACs to hand out
- 12:34Speaker 2: tons of money to politicians. They need the Democrats, Bernie Sanders,
- 12:38Speaker 2: all these guys to play along with this. So 40
- 12:43Speaker 2: million has been doled out to them very quickly over
- 12:45Speaker 2: the weekend and more money is coming. So it'll be interesting.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 2: There was Obama talking about president Trump banning CNN, MSNBC
- 12:57Speaker 2: and Politico from the white house.
- 12:59Speaker 5: You just can't come to the white house press briefings
- 13:03Speaker 5: anymore because you're giving the current president unfavorable coverage. I'm
- 13:09Speaker 5: trying to think what would have happened if I had said,
- 13:12Speaker 5: you know what, Fox News, you're out of here. It's unimaginable.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Well, he forgot to mention that he did that. Yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 2: they tried to ban Fox News. Now, the difference is
- 13:23Speaker 2: Obama backed down. There was tremendous flack. But it's interesting.
- 13:27Speaker 2: If you go to my Twitter, you can see the
- 13:29Speaker 2: video of all this. CNN was pushing for Fox to
- 13:32Speaker 2: be banned. MSNBC was pushing for Fox to be banned
- 13:37Speaker 2: from the White House. And Obama tried to do it,
- 13:42Speaker 2: but he backed down. This is the difference. You know,
- 13:44Speaker 2: Trump is like, Trump's like a maniac. He never backs down.
- 13:47Speaker 2: It doesn't matter what kind of opposition he'll keep going.
- 13:50Speaker 2: And remember Joe Biden blocked 440 reporters. He took their
- 13:55Speaker 2: credentials away. 440 reporters he didn't like. Biden took the
- 13:59Speaker 2: credentials away. And you're going to hear if you watch
- 14:03Speaker 2: CNN or MSNBC, this story is false. They simply did
- 14:07Speaker 2: not reapply for their, yeah, well, they didn't think they
- 14:10Speaker 2: had a chance, so they didn't reapply. Trump administration did
- 14:14Speaker 2: block a couple of news organizations in the first term.
- 14:18Speaker 2: First term, they blocked the BBC, Politico, New York Times
- 14:21Speaker 2: from attending certain briefings. Pentagon has blocked reporters from certain areas.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Trump administration restricted and blocked Associated Press a while back.
- 14:33Speaker 2: They're still in court fighting that. They're not getting anywhere
- 14:36Speaker 2: on that. During Trump's first term, he took away the
- 14:39Speaker 2: press credentials of Jim Acosta. Remember that ugly, rude, nasty
- 14:44Speaker 2: CNN guy? He went to court, later got it back.
- 14:48Speaker 2: He got his press pass back. The president said at
- 14:51Speaker 2: the time he wanted to make a point, regardless of
- 14:53Speaker 2: whether the ban held up in court. And that may
- 14:56Speaker 2: be the same thing here that he's doing. So the
- 14:59Speaker 2: AP lawsuit is still stuck in court. They're still banned.
- 15:03Speaker 2: They're not getting anywhere.
- 15:05Speaker 1: But.
- 15:06Speaker 2: We'll see. Now, the other thing is just don't let
- 15:09Speaker 2: them in the Oval Office. You could do what they
- 15:13Speaker 2: do at the Pentagon. Just restrict them to certain areas
- 15:17Speaker 2: and nowhere else. Hey, we'll take some calls next. 800-321-0710
- 15:19Speaker 2: is the number.
- 15:20Speaker 1: 800-321-0710.
- 15:20Speaker 2: The Mark Simone Show. Now nine till noon weekdays.
- 15:23Speaker 1: On 710WOR.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Hey, we'll take some calls. 800-321-0710 is the number. If
- 15:43Speaker 2: you're a Democrat, cover your ears. Oil is down again.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Down $ 5 a barrel right now. Down to $ 95. Anyway,
- 15:50Speaker 2: let's take some calls. Let's go to John in, is
- 15:55Speaker 2: it Greenridge, New Jersey?
- 15:57Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Greenridge, New Jersey.
- 15:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Where do you people come up with these names in
- 16:02Speaker 2: New Jersey?
- 16:02Speaker 1: I know. Well. It's a beautiful area. Yeah, the reason
- 16:07Speaker 1: I'm calling is that I was concerned that during the
- 16:12Speaker 1: collapse of the United States, USSR, they lost track of
- 16:18Speaker 1: 88 nuclear suitcase weapons.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but you have nothing to worry about. Nothing to
- 16:25Speaker 2: worry about. The material in those nuclear suitcases is totally
- 16:29Speaker 2: expired and doesn't work anymore.
- 16:32Speaker 5: Sure.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Yes. Positive. Every scientific scientist, nuclear expert said there's a
- 16:36Speaker 2: shelf life on that material in there. It doesn't work anymore.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. I'm glad to hear.
- 16:42Speaker 2: All right. Yeah. They used to scare everybody with that
- 16:44Speaker 2: when they lost the suitcase. It's called a suitcase nuke.
- 16:48Speaker 2: You can carry it on your back and it's a
- 16:50Speaker 2: small nuclear weapon. The material in them is degraded though.
- 16:54Speaker 2: And it was also believed at the time that anybody
- 16:58Speaker 2: trying to use one would end up blowing themselves up
- 17:00Speaker 2: or radiating themselves to death. You've got to know how.
- 17:03Speaker 2: You've got to be really trained to handle one of those.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Let's go to Mara in Nevada. Mara, how are you doing?
- 17:10Speaker 7: So good. Thank you, God. Mark, I'm talking about First Amendment.
- 17:14Speaker 7: You can say what you want. No fire in a theater. However,
- 17:18Speaker 7: Ed Sheeran even said he wanted to keep a safe
- 17:22Speaker 7: space in his concerts, and then Macklemore can shout, Free Palestine?
- 17:28Speaker 7: Creating problems and threats in the theater? No, you can't
- 17:32Speaker 7: just say no fire, no free Palestine, no Kilmandani, none
- 17:36Speaker 7: of that stuff in the crowded theater. What do you think?
- 17:39Speaker 2: I agree. I agree. In fact, first of all, your insurance,
- 17:41Speaker 2: shut the hell up. Nobody cares what you think about
- 17:43Speaker 2: any of this. But thanks for calling. Hey, where are
- 17:46Speaker 2: all the calls? Nobody's calling today. Is it the holiday?
- 17:50Speaker 2: Is it UN week? I don't know. There's open lines. 800-321-
- 17:56Speaker 2: 0-7-10 is the number.
- 17:57Speaker 1: 800-321-0710.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Hey, speaking of movie theaters yelling fire, it's aggravating in
- 18:05Speaker 2: a movie theater when somebody's on their phone. But this
- 18:09Speaker 2: guy's in the movie theater, and the guy in the
- 18:11Speaker 2: next row in front of him is on the phone,
- 18:14Speaker 2: but he's not talking. He's just looking at his phone,
- 18:17Speaker 2: and apparently he had the screen brightness turned down a
- 18:21Speaker 2: little bit. but he was looking at his phone and
- 18:23Speaker 2: this other guy kept telling him to turn it off,
- 18:25Speaker 2: kept yelling at him to turn it off. And the
- 18:27Speaker 2: guy wouldn't turn it off. So this guy finally took
- 18:31Speaker 2: out pepper spray and sprayed the guy pepper spray in
- 18:36Speaker 2: a middle of a movie theater while, while the movie
- 18:38Speaker 2: is on. So, you know, this pepper spray is pretty
- 18:41Speaker 2: ugly stuff. So everybody got up and it couldn't take
- 18:45Speaker 2: the smell and it was, it's bad for people. And
- 18:47Speaker 2: they kept running out of the movie theater, uh, They
- 18:51Speaker 2: all saw the guy that did it. They saw him
- 18:54Speaker 2: spray the guy. And the guy was smart enough to
- 18:57Speaker 2: run away. But police eventually, witnesses came forward. Police caught him.
- 19:02Speaker 2: He's now in custody, arrested and booked. This is in Burbank, California.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Misdemeanor battery. The theater offered to refund everybody's money. Let's
- 19:12Speaker 2: take some calls. Let's go to line one. How you doing?
- 19:16Speaker 2: Who is this? Hey, Mark, it's Steve Manhattan, baby. Oh,
- 19:21Speaker 2: it's the same guy.
- 19:22Speaker 1: What do we want to.
- 19:23Speaker 5: Find that got arrested on 9-11?
- 19:24Speaker 1: Who supported that?
- 19:25Speaker 2: I know. Go Buchanan or whatever it is. Let's go
- 19:28Speaker 2: to line four. How you doing? Yes, hi.
- 19:32Speaker 1: This is Mike from Queens.
- 19:33Speaker 8: I am not horrified by the gasoline prices in New
- 19:36Speaker 8: York City, and I'm a yellow cab.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Driver, and I think it's a huge hype job.
- 19:40Speaker 3: There's a lot of real in it, but I think
- 19:42Speaker 3: it's grossly overrated.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yeah, well, gas prices are high right now, but they're
- 19:47Speaker 2: not as high as the Joe Biden days. They're nowhere near. that.
- 19:51Speaker 2: But it's a big, big thing to get Trump with
- 19:54Speaker 2: and try to hurt Republicans in the midterms. So it's
- 19:58Speaker 2: all you read about the gas prices, the gas prices,
- 20:00Speaker 2: the gas prices. You notice that story came out today.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Americans are making more money now. Average American income is
- 20:07Speaker 2: at the highest level ever. They don't report that. poverty level,
- 20:12Speaker 2: lowest rate ever. They don't report that. They just keep
- 20:15Speaker 2: yelling about gas prices just to affect the midterms. Let's
- 20:18Speaker 2: go to Dave, Mahwah, New Jersey. Dave, how you doing?
- 20:22Speaker 1: Good, Mark.
- 20:23Speaker 9: Thank you. I just wanted to let you know, because
- 20:26Speaker 9: I haven't really heard this one out there, but I
- 20:28Speaker 9: saw Mellencamp about a month ago, and he had a
- 20:31Speaker 9: lot of political rants during the show. As a matter
- 20:33Speaker 9: of fact, the first song he sang was, was a
- 20:36Speaker 9: new song about the Trump administration, you know, against the
- 20:40Speaker 9: Trump administration. So I just want it to be known
- 20:42Speaker 9: that Mellencamp is also one of these.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a bunch of these idiots, Bruce Springsteen and
- 20:47Speaker 2: the other ones. First of all, nobody... Who would want
- 20:51Speaker 2: their opinion on any political issue? You know, Mellencamp, if
- 20:55Speaker 2: you needed advice on who makes the best guitar pick,
- 21:00Speaker 2: I would ask Mellencamp. If I wanted to know about
- 21:02Speaker 2: which guitar to get, I'd ask Bruce Springsteen. If I
- 21:04Speaker 2: wanted to know about... Foreign policy, I don't think I'd
- 21:07Speaker 2: turn to Bruce Springsteen for that. Let's go to Joe, Colonia,
- 21:11Speaker 2: New Jersey. Joe, how are you doing?
- 21:14Speaker 1: Hey, Mark, I'm doing great. First, I just want to
- 21:16Speaker 1: let you know that thanks to you, I no longer
- 21:18Speaker 1: squeeze my teabags.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that's very important. Everybody dunks the teabag for
- 21:23Speaker 2: a couple minutes. Then at the end, they take the
- 21:25Speaker 2: spoon and they press the teabag and squeeze out what
- 21:28Speaker 2: the experts say that's the worst thing you can do.
- 21:32Speaker 2: It brings out the bitter stuff. There's stuff in the
- 21:34Speaker 2: teabag that tastes great. That's what you want in the tea.
- 21:37Speaker 2: There's also stuff in there that tastes awful. It's bitter.
- 21:40Speaker 2: You don't want that. If you squeeze it, that stuff
- 21:42Speaker 2: starts coming out. And you've noticed a difference?
- 21:46Speaker 4: I've got to be honest.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I don't notice a difference, but I just don't.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I don't really either. I don't really either.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I put all that extra stuff in there,
- 21:56Speaker 1: like you said.
- 21:56Speaker 2: It does something to help the flow of it, to
- 21:59Speaker 2: help the other stuff flow out. but it's made to
- 22:02Speaker 2: stay in the teabag while the other stuff flows out.
- 22:04Speaker 2: If you squeeze the teabag, the bad stuff starts to
- 22:08Speaker 2: flow out. One more call. Let's go to Neil in Brooklyn. Neil,
- 22:11Speaker 2: how are you doing?
- 22:12Speaker 5: Thank you, thank you.
- 22:13Speaker 8: Yeah, what irked me about the press is, like, during
- 22:21Speaker 8: Trump's first term, like, there would be, early in the day,
- 22:24Speaker 8: it would be reported that Hispanic businessmen from all over
- 22:27Speaker 8: the world.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Neil, there's a lot of preamble here. What's the point
- 22:29Speaker 2: you want to make?
- 22:30Speaker 8: Okay, the point I want to make is sometimes I'll
- 22:34Speaker 8: see a story earlier in the day, and you figure
- 22:36Speaker 8: it's going to be on the 630 news.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Is there any point? We don't have much time here.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Is there a point you want to make?
- 22:45Speaker 8: Yes, the point is they ignore stories, that's all.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yeah, well, that's as we say. Again, story comes out
- 22:52Speaker 2: this week, lowest poverty rate ever, highest income ever for
- 22:56Speaker 2: the average American. They don't report it. There's a lot
- 22:58Speaker 2: of stuff they just don't report. Oh, when we come back,
- 23:02Speaker 2: the best columnist in America, Michael Goodwin. He'll be with
- 23:06Speaker 2: us next on 710WOR.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Well, Michael Goodwin, the best columnist in America.
- 23:21Speaker 2: You can read him every Sunday and every Wednesday in
- 23:24Speaker 2: the New York Post. All of his columns are up
- 23:26Speaker 2: on the New York Post website if you missed anything.
- 23:29Speaker 2: And we got two columns for the price of one
- 23:31Speaker 2: this week. And it's great to have him with us.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Michael Goodwin, how you doing?
- 23:36Speaker 1: Good morning, Mark. Thank you.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Hey, first of all, the UN, General Assembly, all these
- 23:42Speaker 2: world leaders here, Iran will be here. What should the
- 23:45Speaker 2: president do with all this?
- 23:48Speaker 1: Well, sort of a feast of unappetizing food, right? But look,
- 23:55Speaker 1: I do think the president... is eager to get the
- 23:59Speaker 1: Iran situation off the front pages and out of the
- 24:04Speaker 1: polls for the midterms. And so he's going to be
- 24:08Speaker 1: in New York, and the Iranian leaders are both here
- 24:12Speaker 1: on State Department visas for the UN. And the president
- 24:17Speaker 1: has never met either of those two Iranians. And I
- 24:22Speaker 1: would be shocked if there isn't some way that they
- 24:26Speaker 1: do manage to get together. He's also meeting with our
- 24:30Speaker 1: Gulf allies, the Gulf of Arabia allies. And so I
- 24:37Speaker 1: think that this is a moment that could turn out
- 24:41Speaker 1: to be very significant. Now, there's no guarantee of that,
- 24:45Speaker 1: of course. Iran has shown no inclination to end the
- 24:50Speaker 1: war in anything close to America's terms. which of course
- 24:54Speaker 1: have to do with nuclear proliferation primarily, along with funding
- 25:00Speaker 1: of Hezbollah and Hamas and groups like that, and getting
- 25:04Speaker 1: rid of its long-range missiles. So we've seen no signs
- 25:11Speaker 1: that the Iranians are ready for that. But the two
- 25:14Speaker 1: people coming to the UN, they are not of the
- 25:19Speaker 1: ruling mullah class. These are basically professional westernized leaders. But
- 25:27Speaker 1: we will see if they have any power to actually
- 25:30Speaker 1: make a deal. That's one of the mysteries about who
- 25:33Speaker 1: is really running the Iranian government, such as it is.
- 25:38Speaker 1: And it seems to be the hardliners, the mullahs, the killers,
- 25:42Speaker 1: the corrupt ones. So if there's a deal to be made,
- 25:46Speaker 1: the UN meeting would be a great place for it. Yeah.
- 25:50Speaker 2: But what's the point? They never, ever, ever, ever stick
- 25:53Speaker 2: to an agreement. As people say, Iran has never won
- 25:55Speaker 2: a war and never lost an agreement because they just
- 25:58Speaker 2: don't follow it. So what's the point? Why even bother?
- 26:03Speaker 1: They've gotten away with it, right? I mean, 50 years almost,
- 26:07Speaker 1: this is how they've conducted themselves. And part of it
- 26:11Speaker 1: is everybody's afraid of their militaries and how they activate,
- 26:16Speaker 1: like pushing a button and and Hezbollah or Hamas or
- 26:20Speaker 1: the Houthis come out of the ground and kill you.
- 26:24Speaker 1: That's how the Iranians have gotten away with it on
- 26:26Speaker 1: the foreign policy stage, and there's been no real credible
- 26:31Speaker 1: threat against them domestically for those five decades. So that
- 26:37Speaker 1: has been the conundrum for everybody dealing with Iran. You
- 26:41Speaker 1: can't trust them, you can't trust their motives, and they
- 26:45Speaker 1: never live up to any agreement. This is a real problem,
- 26:49Speaker 1: and it's how we ended up in the war in
- 26:52Speaker 1: the first place.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Hey, Michael Goodwin, you also wrote a great column
- 26:57Speaker 2: about the New York Times, which you used to work
- 27:01Speaker 2: there back when it was really the New York Times.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I mean, the real New York Times. Yeah. Do you
- 27:08Speaker 2: even recognize the place today when you see it?
- 27:11Speaker 1: No, it's really something entirely different. It's like a different species.
- 27:16Speaker 2: From what it was.
- 27:18Speaker 1: It should have had a transgender operation or something. But look,
- 27:24Speaker 1: the piece I focused on this time, Mark, had to
- 27:28Speaker 1: do with the national poverty rate. And it held steady
- 27:33Speaker 1: last year. And this very much upset the New York
- 27:37Speaker 1: Times because they thought and predicted it would soar because
- 27:43Speaker 1: of Donald Trump's cuts to what it calls a social
- 27:46Speaker 1: safety net. And not only that, the median family income rose,
- 27:52Speaker 1: and it's the highest ever. So these two things together
- 27:57Speaker 1: were bad news for the New York Times. They want suffering,
- 28:03Speaker 1: human suffering, to prove that they're right and Donald Trump
- 28:08Speaker 1: is wrong. Here you get the news doesn't comport to
- 28:13Speaker 1: their politics. And so there's this kind of mournful tone
- 28:18Speaker 1: about the poverty rate not getting higher and the fact
- 28:23Speaker 1: that median family incomes have set a new record. This
- 28:28Speaker 1: was the New York Times. This is all bad news.
- 28:31Speaker 1: In reality, of course, of the Americans involved and the
- 28:35Speaker 1: country as a whole, it's very good news. But the
- 28:39Speaker 1: New York Times hates good news if it makes Trump
- 28:44Speaker 1: look good. They can't have that.
- 28:47Speaker 2: So, Michael Goodwin, when you used to work there, that's
- 28:49Speaker 2: when they had the great leadership. Was it Abe Rosenthal
- 28:52Speaker 2: and Arthur Gelb and those kind of people?
- 28:54Speaker 1: Correct, yeah. Yeah. Well, you've got Drake. The thing is, Mark,
- 29:00Speaker 1: that the leader sets the tone and the rules. And
- 29:04Speaker 1: so everybody... had to follow the basic rules, which is,
- 29:09Speaker 1: if you're a reporter or an editor, we don't care
- 29:12Speaker 1: about your opinions. Keep them to yourself. What we put
- 29:16Speaker 1: in the paper are the facts, the news, and we're
- 29:21Speaker 1: not taking sides with every story. We're not here pushing
- 29:25Speaker 1: an agenda. We're here to deliver facts and news and
- 29:30Speaker 1: opinion on in a kind of secularized area where it's
- 29:35Speaker 1: roped off from the news. But that roping off has
- 29:40Speaker 1: has bled now to where every article is an opinion,
- 29:44Speaker 1: such as the one we're just discussing. It's the opinion
- 29:48Speaker 1: that always comes clear. You read the New York Times.
- 29:52Speaker 1: It's not the facts. It's how the Times interpret and interpret.
- 29:57Speaker 1: those facts and what it wants the facts to be.
- 30:01Speaker 1: That's a corruption that I think that we double the
- 30:04Speaker 1: times and we'll continue to until somebody blows the whistle there,
- 30:09Speaker 1: the owner, presumably, and says, look, we're going back to
- 30:15Speaker 1: the good old days. We're going back to standards of
- 30:17Speaker 1: fairness and we're not going to run every story with
- 30:22Speaker 1: an opinion.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Yeah, but the other argument is they were going broke.
- 30:27Speaker 2: The Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim had to come bail him out,
- 30:30Speaker 2: keep him afloat. And then Trump comes along, and there's
- 30:33Speaker 2: an incredible business model here. You just bash Trump all
- 30:36Speaker 2: day and night, and there's an audience for that. And
- 30:38Speaker 2: you suddenly make a fortune. So with that going on,
- 30:42Speaker 2: who's ever going to go back to the old model?
- 30:46Speaker 1: That's a very good point, Mark, and I've considered that.
- 30:49Speaker 1: And I don't have the answer, as you say. One
- 30:53Speaker 1: of the shames is that this business model has been
- 30:57Speaker 1: successful in a time of changing media landscapes and all that.
- 31:03Speaker 1: If you ever go and read the readers' responses to
- 31:09Speaker 1: an article, which you can see online a lot, many
- 31:15Speaker 1: of the readers are crazier than the reporters.
- 31:18Speaker 4: I mean.
- 31:19Speaker 1: They want the Times to kill Trump. The Times is
- 31:22Speaker 1: too soft on Trump. They're too soft on the Republic.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I don't know where you'll find these people, but what's
- 31:29Speaker 1: been nourishing their hatred so long? But the Times is
- 31:33Speaker 1: now kind of trapped by feeding the beast a little bit.
- 31:38Speaker 1: The beast is demanding more and more. So the Times
- 31:42Speaker 1: is kind of trapped in this cycle on which its
- 31:45Speaker 1: finances are now dependent.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Yeah, wow. Well, everybody go read his. It's two Michael
- 31:51Speaker 2: Goodwin columns you want to read. The one about the
- 31:52Speaker 2: New York Times and the one about Iran and the
- 31:55Speaker 2: UN and Trump. And it's all up on the New
- 31:57Speaker 2: York Post website. Great stuff. Michael Goodwin, thanks for being
- 32:01Speaker 2: with us.
- 32:02Speaker 1: My pleasure, Mark. Thank you.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Take care. Yeah, and don't forget, it's UN week all
- 32:08Speaker 2: this week. It's gridlock all week. Street closures all over
- 32:13Speaker 2: the place. Don't drive into Manhattan this week. It's going
- 32:15Speaker 2: to be an absolute nightmare. Today's a Of course, Yom Kippur,
- 32:19Speaker 2: it's a holiday. And it's Monday, which is the day
- 32:23Speaker 2: most people don't come into the office. So you won't
- 32:25Speaker 2: really feel it as much today. But, oh, tomorrow you'll
- 32:28Speaker 2: really feel it. Remember, the president comes into Manhattan tonight. Actually,
- 32:33Speaker 2: this afternoon, 4 o'clock, Gracie Mansion. And then he comes
- 32:37Speaker 2: into Midtown. It's going to be a lot of gridlock
- 32:40Speaker 2: everywhere tonight. It's going to be a mess tonight. So
- 32:44Speaker 2: stay out of Manhattan if you're driving. A lot to
- 32:46Speaker 2: get to. Don't forget at noon, Buck Saxton and Clay
- 32:49Speaker 2: Travis with a great show. Then at 3 o'clock, the
- 32:52Speaker 2: most listened to radio show in America, Sean Hannity. Got
- 32:56Speaker 2: Jesse Kelly at 6. You got the very funny Jimmy
- 33:01Speaker 2: Fela every night at 9 here on 710WOR.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Now 9 till noon weekdays.
- 33:08Speaker 5: Mark Simone. Only on 710WOR.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Well, hey, it's the final day of summer. Autumn begins
- 33:19Speaker 2: officially tomorrow night, 8 o'clock. So it'll be 71 today.
- 33:24Speaker 2: That's the high. Rest of the week in the 60s, mid-60s.
- 33:28Speaker 2: That's the high for the rest of the week. So
- 33:31Speaker 2: summer is over. Tomorrow at 8 o'clock, it's officially over.
- 33:36Speaker 2: But then you got Halloween, and you got Thanksgiving, and
- 33:40Speaker 2: you got Christmas, and you got... What do they do
- 33:43Speaker 2: in the fall? You got the beautiful leaves everywhere. All right.
- 33:45Speaker 2: That lasts for about two weeks. But don't worry. Then
- 33:49Speaker 2: it'll be winter. That's bad. But then it'll be spring again.
- 33:51Speaker 2: It just keeps moving along. A lot to get to
- 33:55Speaker 2: in the next hour. What do the polls really say?
- 33:57Speaker 2: We'll get to that and more coming up on 710WOR.
