Transcript
- Lucas: Velkommen til episode 153 af Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Lucas, I went to the supermarket yesterday and tried out some phrases from last episode. It actually went pretty well. Lucas: That's great, Luna! What did you manage to say? Luna: I said 'Jeg vil gerne have et kilo æbler.' And I paid with my card. They understood me! Lucas: Perfect! That's exactly what we learned. Today, let's build on that. What if you also wanted milk and bread? Luna: Oh, I did need milk! But I didn't know how to say it. Luna: En liter mælk. Lucas: Good. Now, to ask for it, you say: 'Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk.' Let's practice that. Luna: Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk. Lucas: Exactly. Now, bread is 'brød'. But a common Danish bread is 'rugbrød', which is rye bread. So if you want a rye bread, you say 'et rugbrød'. Luna: Et rugbrød. Lucas: And to ask for it: 'Jeg vil gerne have et rugbrød.' Try it. Luna: Jeg vil gerne have et rugbrød. Lucas: Great. Now, what if you want both? You use the word 'og', which means 'and'. Luna: Og. Lucas: Yes. So you can say: 'Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk og et rugbrød.' That's 'I would like a liter of milk and a rye bread'. Luna: Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk og et rugbrød. Lucas: Perfect! Now, let's imagine you're at the counter. You say that, and the cashier might ask 'Noget mere?' which means 'Anything else?'. Luna: Noget mere? What would I say? Maybe just 'Nej tak.'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Nej tak' is 'No thanks'. And then you can pay. If today was actually useful to you, the way these stay ad-free is listener support. You can buy me a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps keep the show going without ads. So if you can, please consider it. Lucas: Now, back to shopping. Let's practice the whole exchange. You walk up and say... Luna: Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk og et rugbrød. Lucas: And the cashier says 'Det bliver 35 kroner.' That's 'That will be 35 kroner.' Then you can say 'Kan jeg betale med kort?' Luna: Kan jeg betale med kort? Yes, I remember that from last episode. Lucas: Excellent. So let's do a quick roleplay. I'm the cashier. You're the customer. Luna: Okay. Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk og et rugbrød. Lucas: Det bliver 35 kroner. Luna: Kan jeg betale med kort? Lucas: Ja, du kan betale med kort. Luna: Great! That felt natural. Lucas: You did it. Now, let's repeat the key phrases one more time. First: 'Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk.' Say it with me. Luna: Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk. Lucas: And: 'Jeg vil gerne have et rugbrød.' Luna: Jeg vil gerne have et rugbrød. Lucas: And together: 'Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk og et rugbrød.' Luna: Jeg vil gerne have en liter mælk og et rugbrød. Lucas: Wonderful. And remember 'og' means 'and'. Practice these and try them out next time you're at the supermarket. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to our listeners. We'll see you next time on Learn Danish with Fexingo. Lucas: Farvel for nu. Bye for now.
