- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Carlin and Nate Reyes it.
- 0:11All starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:17presented by Seek Geek. This is episode 402.
- 0:22I'll be your host, Kyle Corn, and I'm here with my Co host,
- 0:24Nate Reyes and Nate. Four O 2 Four O 2 Our second
- 0:35episode post end of season. Fully into the off season, and
- 0:44let me tell you, I hate it. But before we get into that, are
- 0:48you're a you're a Spotify guy, right?
- 0:50Oh no, you're Apple Music. You're.
- 0:52One of those people I switched. I switched like year and a half
- 0:56ago. Two years ago, Paige made me
- 0:57switch. And I regret the switch.
- 1:00I'm going to be honest with you. I I regret it.
- 1:03I had like a true Apple Music fan.
- 1:05I. Had like 2500 songs in on my
- 1:09apple like just Oh yeah, it's not a.
- 1:14Ton of music that I just don't remember now.
- 1:17I can't remember what it was like, who the band was, like,
- 1:21what the name of the song was. And I can't find it again.
- 1:23And it's just gone. What it's not though, It doesn't
- 1:26go away like Spotify. You Spotify both of these.
- 1:30You have access to the music. I can't find what I have.
- 1:33This isn't like iTunes, no dude circa 2007 where you have to
- 1:37like buy them and if you I have like reset your iPhone iPod, it
- 1:40goes by. 5 or 600 songs that I don't remember what I had on
- 1:45Apple. It's not like this song pops
- 1:48into my head. It's just like it's gone.
- 1:50I don't remember what it was. But I do remember that I had
- 1:54more songs than Apple than I do now.
- 1:56Yeah, but you know what they say.
- 1:57It's like when you're trying to remember something, you can't
- 1:59remember it. Well, it must have not been that
- 2:01important. Like, no, you're going to
- 2:03remember your bangers, like your go to your repeat, your gym
- 2:07music, your commute music. The other stuff is, it kind of
- 2:11just falls by the wayside. I don't like change and it was a
- 2:13big change for me and I regret it, so, well, I'm gonna.
- 2:18People stand strong. Don't listen to this.
- 2:20I want to force you to sit in this regret a little longer.
- 2:25Do Are you familiar with the Spotify wrapped?
- 2:29I think so, yeah. I don't know how to access it or
- 2:31where you see that, but Oh well, this is, this is good.
- 2:34So this is, like, completely new to you then.
- 2:36All right, so. Basically, take your phone, take
- 2:38your phone, 'cause I I'm. Curious.
- 2:40I don't listen to my podcast on Spotify, though.
- 2:43That's fine. We're not here to do.
- 2:44We're not. Here for I thought you were
- 2:46going to do that same stuff. All right.
- 2:48No, I just go to Spotify. I just wanted to see.
- 2:51You don't have to go into details.
- 2:53I know certain people are like. Oh, wrapped.
- 2:55I see it up there private about their music, but I'm just.
- 2:57Curious if there's yeah, click it but turn it down though,
- 3:00because I'm not trying to get flagged for any music playing.
- 3:04Do the your 2023 wrapped or your 2023 top songs?
- 3:11No. So go to your homepage.
- 3:12Go to the top. Yeah, at the very top it'll say
- 3:15like, all music, podcast, audiobook.
- 3:17Scroll to the right, you'll see a little.
- 3:19Wrapped right? Then when I hit click that and
- 3:22then there should be a a a big box that says you're 2023
- 3:26wrapped. OK.
- 3:28All right. So turn it down because I don't
- 3:29want to be flagged all. Right, Turn it down.
- 3:31All right, So click it. OK.
- 3:36We don't have to go through the whole thing.
- 3:38I'm just curious. I want to see if there's
- 3:40anything that. Pops Morgan Wallen's going to be
- 3:45up there for sure, I think. OK, all right, I got hit.
- 3:50Somebody said I. It said I listened to like 89
- 3:53genres of music. There's no, there's not even 89
- 3:56genres of music. I would, I would argue that
- 3:59there's maybe not even 12 genres of music.
- 4:02What are 889? Come on.
- 4:05Do I get to see like the list? Yeah, so I just clicked through
- 4:09all this nonsense. So tap a few in.
- 4:10How how many minutes did you listen to?
- 4:14Oh, I'll go back. I listened to 13130 songs.
- 4:28Who's your top artist? That's what I really want to
- 4:31know. Listen to 896 artists this year.
- 4:42Yeah, Morgan Wallin called it. Well done #2 Zac Brown Band man.
- 4:56Just full on full on country mode this.
- 4:59Year #3 Luke Combs OK full on country mode.
- 5:03By the way, I think I'm going to Luke Combs in May.
- 5:05That guy's the freaking man. Can't wait for that side note.
- 5:09Yeah, this probably could have waited off here, but you're
- 5:11talking about going to see somebody.
- 5:14Did I mention going to see brigatzi?
- 5:16Are you? In February?
- 5:18He's coming to the freaking Patriot Center.
- 5:21I should have taken advantage of it when he was here.
- 5:23I knew I should have done that. I'm so jealous, Nate.
- 5:26Brigatzi's the man, too. He's like 15 minutes down the
- 5:29road. It's going to be sweet.
- 5:30Anyway, I'm. Going to drop a name?
- 5:32People don't know #4 Nikko Moon. You know Nikko Moon?
- 5:38I do. I think he does a He does a
- 5:40song. He's more like he's like a he's
- 5:44more like a it's not like traditional country at all.
- 5:48Yeah, it's like an island boating kind of kind of country.
- 5:53Yeah. He does a song with who's who
- 6:00does the song. Good time.
- 6:02Yeah, with he does that. With somebody.
- 6:05I thought is that it's not Luke. I think that's just him.
- 6:10This was somebody else anyway. I just wanted to see.
- 6:15I just want to get a a rough feel for where you're at. #5
- 6:18Zach, Bryan This is a clean sweep country.
- 6:22Top five for me. Well, we we only really need to
- 6:27talk about the one. It's NFNF every year.
- 6:29Like back-to-back now? I knew that that I have been.
- 6:34I listen to more than just country, by the way.
- 6:36The top percent I got, I got hit with an e-mail from Spotify,
- 6:41said your Spotify for podcasters available.
- 6:44So I pulled some screen grabs from that about the the pod,
- 6:48about the three O take the show that you are currently listening
- 6:51to. It said our top episode was as
- 7:03you would expect, the hot takes and predictions episode for
- 7:052023. And it was really interesting
- 7:08because it said a a good percentage of people start, the
- 7:12good percentage of the new listener started with that.
- 7:15They went back to hot takes and that's where they yeah, they
- 7:19were like, all right this is where we're going to hop on
- 7:20board And then they just wrote it out.
- 7:24It said our said we are streamed in 18 countries, 86% of those
- 7:32streams coming from the US. Shout out, shout out America, 18
- 7:36countries that couldn't tell you who it is.
- 7:39I would imagine Canada so sick. We know Australia.
- 7:43Mexico's maybe maybe we got a little Mexico action going in
- 7:47Mexico. I thought it was funny.
- 7:49It said our top our listeners, top podcast genres were sports,
- 7:52comedy and news, which is so like it's it's such a perfect
- 7:59representation of sports fans. I feel like in order to get away
- 8:04from the messiness and just the crap that life throws your way,
- 8:08you're going to look for a distraction.
- 8:10And naturally, our listeners are going to sports first and
- 8:13foremost. Right.
- 8:15And then they go to comedy. For sure, for a little, little
- 8:21Comic Relief. And then they're like, all
- 8:24right, well, if I don't once. Once those two things are out of
- 8:27picture, then I guess I'll turn to the news.
- 8:30So shout out for you guys. For.
- 8:32Stick your head in the sand. So I think what that tells me is
- 8:36that our our listeners are extremely intelligent and tapped
- 8:40in. Speaking of Tapped In, it said
- 8:43our top fans listened, which I feel like the people that listen
- 8:48know who they are. Like I've had people messaging
- 8:52me today with this whole Spotify rap thing.
- 8:53They've tagged us in the stories tagging like the Top Five
- 8:56podcast. Love that, by the way.
- 8:57That gets me hyped. You know who you are, says our
- 9:00top fans listen to the pod 3.4 times more than the other
- 9:07listeners. So.
- 9:08Wow. Shout out you guys.
- 9:10Love you guys. Love you guys.
- 9:13Let's go. That's dope.
- 9:18Big fan of that. Switching Gears of baseball,
- 9:22though, What I'm not a fan of. And you and I were talking about
- 9:26it briefly before we hopped on this whole this whole state of
- 9:32the offseason that we're in. Just everything about it.
- 9:35Everything about it. The let's let's just run through
- 9:38the list here. The national reporters that fuel
- 9:42all of this, the people on social media that just eat every
- 9:49bit of it up instead of choosing to do something productive with
- 9:53their day, they're buying into all these reports that are
- 9:57conflicting, by the way. Yep, just the overall
- 10:06inactivity. I saw a meme the other day where
- 10:09it was a, in fact, I may have even post it to our Facebook.
- 10:15It was a meme of like those two Doge dogs and it's like you know
- 10:21it's like the big jacked one and then the one that's like over in
- 10:24the corner crying and it's the one on the the the jacked one is
- 10:28the NFL the NBA and it's about free agency.
- 10:32It says all our big free agents signed first day no time for
- 10:35rumors you've already signed Bob.
- 10:38And then over in the corner it's just the the dog crying in the
- 10:41corner with the MLB logo on it says we might wait until March
- 10:44to sign this team is interested but so are 15 other teams.
- 10:48Heyman says yes. Ken says no.
- 10:50Bob doesn't know pass and hasn't tweeted in two months.
- 10:54I. Hate this part of the year dude.
- 10:58And I I especially cannot stand these reporters who if you know
- 11:05anything about what's going on with social media you you will
- 11:09know that a lot of these platforms now couple of them for
- 11:13a while but X or Twitter especially, and I'm not saying
- 11:18that this is across the board but this is more for like the
- 11:21the middle tier not not the big name reporters.
- 11:23I don't think they, they couldn't care less, but Twitter
- 11:27X specifically has the premium service now.
- 11:31It's where you can sign up. You get the blue check mark
- 11:33verification and if you reach a certain impressions threshold,
- 11:37you then enter in what they call the ad revenue sharing, you
- 11:44know, program, process, whatever, and do.
- 11:47You get a cut each month and it's completely flipped upside
- 11:53down. Journalism coverage, news.
- 11:56Just about clicks. It's all about clicks.
- 11:59It's even outside of sports. It's just posting the most
- 12:04erroneous sensationalist things you can think of just to drive
- 12:09clicks, just to drive impressions.
- 12:10And there's so many of these reporters on I use reporters in
- 12:14quotes. There's like mid, no name people
- 12:17that are like, Yep, I can confirm this.
- 12:20My sources tell me that this is this is that.
- 12:23This is this. Yeah, nobody knows what they're
- 12:26talking about. And I'm just tired of people
- 12:28eating it up and like, they're pulling, they're pulling hair
- 12:30because like, Oh my God, my my team's not going to get this guy
- 12:34because Johnny No Nuts said that his sources confirmed it.
- 12:42Just wait until March. The people that fall for this
- 12:47are the people that just are like they refuse to create their
- 12:51own opinion. Refuse.
- 12:54And it's one thing if you listen to podcasts or if you read
- 12:57articles and your opinion changes.
- 13:02It's another thing if you can't even create your own opinion, or
- 13:06if it just falls in line with whatever you're reading that
- 13:09day. It's just like, have an original
- 13:11thought. So This is why social media
- 13:13sucks. Social media is the worst.
- 13:16Dude. I hate it.
- 13:20Would that be so bad? Yeah, Dwight, It would have a
- 13:23thought. Have an original thought.
- 13:27I saw a tweet today. I I need to pull it up.
- 13:30It's it's this. He doesn't have Tourette's, by
- 13:32the way. Guys, that's just an office
- 13:34quote. Any newbies Just an office get.
- 13:36Used to it, yeah. I'm not.
- 13:39I'm not like schizophrenic. I'm not talking to people that
- 13:42aren't here. It's just I recognize that it's
- 13:44just Nate and myself. This right here, it actually
- 13:48can't it. It was posted today perfectly
- 13:51summarizes the state of modern journalism Andy Martino, who's
- 13:57been getting a lot of love recently.
- 13:59Mets guy, right? Mets guy says.
- 14:04And I quote the Mets are active. In fact, they are close to
- 14:09acquiring a player, not star level.
- 14:11But I don't have the name at present.
- 14:16I think any, any TN reporter could tweet that at any moment
- 14:21right now and be correct. That's what that's what I'm
- 14:27saying it's it's just throwing stuff at the wall, seeing what
- 14:31sticks. And if it lands, then you look
- 14:35like a genius. But even at this point, it's so
- 14:40watered down that you really don't.
- 14:43So do you just have people throwing stuff at the wall?
- 14:48So these cliques, do these reporters like get paid from X
- 14:55technically if they have like their premium account?
- 14:59That's why I was saying I I'm I'm not necessarily talking
- 15:01about guys like passing like, I don't know because they're legit
- 15:05guys in the industry. I don't know if there's like a a
- 15:08higher tier where that I honestly, I just don't know how
- 15:12it works entirely. But I'm saying like if if first
- 15:20thing off the top of my head, if a Red Sox fan with 1000
- 15:23followers decide he he wakes up tomorrow and goes, you know
- 15:27what, I want to get in on this rumor about Shohei possibly
- 15:32coming to Boston. I'm going to sign up for X and
- 15:36then he gets on there, gets the verification badge, and then he
- 15:41goes out and tweets sources close to me indicate that Shohei
- 15:46was seen in Boston. You you can just throw out the
- 15:50most, like unbearable things. Just say.
- 15:54Straight up Lie Shohei was seen by a bystander in Logan Airport.
- 16:02Sources confirm that a deal is possible, the most arbitrary
- 16:10vague nonsense you've ever heard in your life.
- 16:13And people are eating it up. And then they get the clicks,
- 16:15they get the the, the repost, the likes, and then just blows
- 16:19up. And then people lose their minds
- 16:21over it. And it's just idiots arguing
- 16:24with each other in the comment section, Just driving the
- 16:28numbers up. And then you get a freaking an
- 16:33Angels fan with 1000 followers that also woke up that same day
- 16:38and decided no, I'm going to start pushing this narrative
- 16:40that Shohei is coming back to the Angels.
- 16:43And then he puts out a tweet that says sources confirm that
- 16:48no, no imminent deal to Boston has been confirmed and and is
- 16:55rather unlikely. I saw, I saw a post today that
- 16:59John Hayman literally went on the Bleacher Report stream like
- 17:02we did a number of months back, and he was talking about how
- 17:08show hey to Boston is a possibility.
- 17:11And this this came four hours after a report was circulating
- 17:16on Twitter talking about how the Red Sox were out on show.
- 17:21Hey, I know I keep going in circles here and I I'm just
- 17:25beating a dead horse. But I'm.
- 17:27I'm just so tired of it, dude. I'm tired of seeing.
- 17:29I don't think I've ever had an offseason where I've.
- 17:31I've read the words eyeing more than I have this offseason.
- 17:36Team X is eyeing Player Y. What does that even mean?
- 17:40All, of course. Every every one of the 30 teams
- 17:45in Major League Baseball, at some degree at some level, is
- 17:49eyeing a player. Whether that means they're
- 17:51looking to acquire them via trade, via free agency signing,
- 17:55or they're eyeing one of their own players to push away, to
- 17:59push out of the organization because they're punting on
- 18:022024-2025. And so on and so forth.
- 18:07So you telling me that a team is looking at a player that means
- 18:12absolutely nothing to me. And like I, like I put out
- 18:15today, National Baseball reporters at one point or
- 18:19another told us that Aaron Judge was a Giant, Carlos Correa was a
- 18:23Giant, Carlos Correa was a Met, Max Scherzer was a Padre, and
- 18:27Michael Brantley was a Blue Jay. So forgive me if I'm not eating
- 18:34every last word up before pen has been put to paper.
- 18:38That's all. That's all I'm going to say.
- 18:39I'm done with with my rant, so. Feel better?
- 18:44No. Still still pissed, but it's all
- 18:49right. Let me ask you a question.
- 18:51Do you miss the days of being a football fan?
- 18:58I mean, I'm, I'm, I'm watching football, like, rather casually.
- 19:03But sure, I'm not like. Like an actual fan.
- 19:07Like fantasy football type fan. Like enough to where you'd be
- 19:12into it to play fantasy football.
- 19:15Because I tell you what, if we're talking about from this
- 19:18perspective, Absolutely. Because.
- 19:20That's what I'm saying. I don't care ESPN they talk
- 19:24about or they talk about football on ESPN and pretty much
- 19:28every other platform, literally year round.
- 19:30And there's no fluff. There's no, like, well, let's
- 19:33just get to this point in the year and then it really picks
- 19:36up. It's all year.
- 19:38Baseball doesn't have that luxury.
- 19:40No, it doesn't. But what I was going to say is I
- 19:43don't care. I'm not reading rumors.
- 19:46I'm not paying attention to anything.
- 19:48I'm not falling for this. This Yankees are talking Soto
- 19:53package. I'm not falling for it.
- 19:56I think it's because of football.
- 19:58I'm like, I'm dialed in by the way, I won that survivor pool.
- 20:03No big deal. 62 people with a $25 buy in.
- 20:09You do the math. I won that puppy.
- 20:12The survivor pool. Yeah, you pick one winner each
- 20:15week and you can't pick the same team twice, OK?
- 20:20So your boy went 12 and O. Well done, Sir.
- 20:24Yeah, good chunk of change. Good chunk of change.
- 20:28Yeah, fantasy teams in second place.
- 20:30It's nice. All I'm saying is that it's nice
- 20:32to have that an outlet to your outlet.
- 20:36That's kind of nice. That's a good point, you.
- 20:38Make you need fishing, skateboarding, knitting, You big
- 20:46knitter. Crochet, actually.
- 20:50OK, get some of that going. I need.
- 20:54Yeah, I think you're right. Honestly, this is like the
- 20:57premier football time for me. I really, I mean football fans
- 21:01too. But like, especially me because
- 21:03I typically don't really tune into football until the start of
- 21:09December because I want to. I want to get caught up on like
- 21:14you know where the the storylines heading into the into
- 21:17the playoffs and then obviously I watched the playoffs Super
- 21:19Bowl and all that but and then college football too.
- 21:22Like I'm I'm big into the college football scene.
- 21:24So it's this is. I think the timing of this has
- 21:27worked out just great because I am at absolute wit's end with.
- 21:31Yeah, I believe I can tell baseball.
- 21:33I can tell I'm just done with it.
- 21:36It's also I I don't have access to MLB Network right now because
- 21:41I have. YouTube TV and part of me is
- 21:46just like just super. It's kind of nice being super
- 21:49unplugged from baseball. I've told you you can access MLB
- 21:52Network through the through the MLB app.
- 21:58Anymore. We used to be able to.
- 22:02I don't. Oh, like on the app, I can do it
- 22:11on my phone, but I can't do it on my iPad.
- 22:13Oh, oh, OK. I can't do it on my desktop or
- 22:15anything. Any access.
- 22:16I was like, no, you can at least do it on your phone.
- 22:18Yeah, but like, who watches something on their phone?
- 22:22You do all the time. I'm I can't I multitask?
- 22:26I need my phone to multitask to what I'm watching.
- 22:29Yeah, they do. The little picture in picture
- 22:31thing, it turns into like a small TV on your screen.
- 22:33You can slide it around wherever you want.
- 22:36That's fair. Let me see.
- 22:39Anyway, I'm I'm just, I'm done with it.
- 22:42I'm. I'm really only interested in
- 22:44talking about the things that have happened, and I'm really
- 22:48only interested in speculating on things that are of interest
- 22:51to me, not for the sake of trying to be the first to report
- 22:58something or get this. See, there you go.
- 23:01There's MLB Network. Ken Burns's baseball.
- 23:04Hey, there you go. Yeah, that right there.
- 23:07That's the state of baseball, right?
- 23:09Now that's what I'm saying. Hen burns baseball on MLB
- 23:13Network right now, that's all you need.
- 23:15You couldn't pay me to sit through that in one sitting.
- 23:18I'm sorry, but yeah, anyway, like there there is a a part at
- 23:26the end here I'm hoping that we can get to where we, you know
- 23:29maybe spit ball some some spots we'd like to see you guys land
- 23:34at. But I'm not going to sit here
- 23:35and pretend like I've got the inside scoop because nobody has
- 23:40the inside scoop. The only thing you hear from
- 23:43people are reports that are then sent or or details rather of
- 23:47contracts that are then sent to them to which they then push
- 23:51out. I mean, what are we really
- 23:54talking about here? All these people are
- 23:56legitimately claiming fake sources.
- 23:59They don't have sources. Not everybody, but a lot of
- 24:02these people who are pretending to be like like beat reporters,
- 24:08you just have 1000 followers and you're wearing a team's hat in
- 24:12your profile picture. That's it.
- 24:15All right, I'm done. But yeah, let's talk about the
- 24:18things that have happened this week.
- 24:22We saw Sonny Gray sign a three-year, $75 million contract
- 24:26with the Cardinals. How do you, how do you feel
- 24:27about this? As a former Sonny Gray watcher,
- 24:36I'll, I'll, I'll limit you to that.
- 24:38Yeah, I thought you were going to say admirer couldn't go that
- 24:41high. I wasn't going to slap you with
- 24:44the label of fan because I I know that that would have been
- 24:46pushing too far. But you you did, at one point in
- 24:49your baseball watching career, watch Sonny Grey.
- 24:54Yeah, kind of rooted for him for a SEC.
- 24:57I I think, to be honest with you, the, I mean the Cardinals
- 25:03needed this, like, more than needed this.
- 25:07I couldn't think of a more dire starting pitching need as far as
- 25:13teams go than the Cardinals. So absolutely makes sense to me.
- 25:18I think it's kind of a best of both worlds for Sonny Grey.
- 25:22Like I I think we everybody can agree he's not necessarily a
- 25:26spotlight guy. He's kind of like a grinky, just
- 25:30doesn't doesn't love being in like the big market situation
- 25:34constant eyes on you. So I think that's why we saw so
- 25:38much success in Oakland, non success the New York.
- 25:45Why am I forgetting where he was in the middle before Minnesota?
- 25:50Oh, the Reds. The Reds, yeah, fell off the
- 25:54radar. Twins, You basically fell off
- 25:56the radar, but the only reason you were talked about is because
- 25:59you were so good this year and the Twins managed to sneak into
- 26:03the post season. I think this is the best of both
- 26:06worlds. You get a a successful team, a
- 26:09storied team, a good fan base, a strong fan base.
- 26:14I wouldn't say necessarily. I would say one of the least
- 26:17hostile fan bases. Yeah, that's fair.
- 26:23All right, say what you will about them they They may leave
- 26:25early from playoff games, but they're not hostile.
- 26:29So I think that's a good thing for Sunny.
- 26:33Pause. Let me interject here, just as a
- 26:35heads up, my sister-in-law texted me.
- 26:38They do trivia. Her, her and my brother-in-law
- 26:42do trivia every Wednesday. And they always have an MLB
- 26:47round. Yeah.
- 26:48Do we need to speed this up so we can get an answer done in
- 26:50time or did they already? She just said it's coming up, so
- 26:54I just want to let you know in case I OK.
- 26:56Let's do it. Pause.
- 26:57We can then answer. But my thing with that is like,
- 27:00why you would say, well, just Google it.
- 27:03I mean, isn't. Reaching a baseball fan?
- 27:06Yeah, what do we? Yeah.
- 27:08Are we better than Google? I hope so.
- 27:10I I want to nail this thing. I mean I'm like I'm like 4 for
- 27:13four. A lot of that questions he's
- 27:16reached out to. Good for you.
- 27:18I'm gonna have to. I'm gonna have to address that
- 27:20when they're home for. Christmas.
- 27:22I would. I don't, I think.
- 27:23Legit trivia. You probably shouldn't have
- 27:25access to your phone. Yes, some.
- 27:27If you're winning, money need to be answered.
- 27:30Yeah, any who's. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:34Give me sunny Gray in there. I like it.
- 27:38Yeah, I mean, it could be the the deal could end up being
- 27:45worth 100 million over 4 years because he's got the team
- 27:50option. Yeah, I just don't know.
- 27:58My, I don't want to say my disappointment, but my thoughts
- 28:01on the the move aren't necessarily directed towards
- 28:04Sonny Gray. I think Sonny Gray obviously
- 28:06came off a a great year, finished second in the Cy Young
- 28:10race. It's more about the Cardinals in
- 28:16their rush to fill their rotation with guys that I just
- 28:24don't think that's going to. That was kind of my next point.
- 28:27I don't. I no matter how good of a year
- 28:30Sonny Graves had, I don't see somebody as an ace.
- 28:33I don't think other teams right now.
- 28:36Yeah, So I don't think they're done.
- 28:39What's my thought? I mean the.
- 28:42They have been in conversations with with Blake Snow, according
- 28:45to these. Stupid.
- 28:47Yeah, they've been 29 other teams.
- 28:49I agree, I agree. But what I'm saying is that
- 28:52there's a need for it. I I I think there's possibly a
- 28:56little bit of AI think this is Olli Marmos last year.
- 29:03I I I don't if he even gets through the year.
- 29:07So I think there has to be a little bit of a.
- 29:13You got to make this somewhat attractive for for hiring a new
- 29:16manager. So I could see I could, I could
- 29:21see a Blake Snell and and slot Sonny in the two spot.
- 29:26I could see it. I could see the trade for Glass
- 29:30now. I could, Yeah, that one I could
- 29:33see. I don't see Blake Snell in in
- 29:36Saint Louis. Apparently it can't, which you
- 29:39would probably be more familiar with it.
- 29:41You may have even have seen it live.
- 29:43But Mike Tirico mentioned whether he was supposed to or
- 29:49not. Mentioned apparently that Blake
- 29:52Snell had had made it known that he would love to pitch for the
- 29:59Mariners, which are his hometown team.
- 30:01Yeah, and he made he commented that on was that.
- 30:04I guess it was Sunday Night Football.
- 30:06Yeah, One of the two. Yeah, I wanted to.
- 30:09Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:10So I'm like that's that's a little interesting that that
- 30:14sentiment became known publicly. Yeah.
- 30:19And I think if you're, Yeah, that kind of opens up because
- 30:24there were conversations with the Cardinals, with Logan
- 30:28Gilbert a little bit. Weren't there some maybes mixed
- 30:33in during the year? I don't know if I heard that
- 30:35one. Maybe I'm thinking of somewhere
- 30:38else. I don't know.
- 30:41Either way I I don't think they're done.
- 30:44I don't think they're done. And there there is a little bit
- 30:48of AI. Think you're in a little bit of
- 30:51a sweet spot where you're in a win now mode.
- 30:54You get a lot of money tied up on the corners.
- 30:58You have a mixture of young studs that are starting to enter
- 31:02the scene. But you need pitching.
- 31:07Bad, bad, bad. Going back to the Ollie Marmot
- 31:14thing, I don't if if they start off sluggish through like June,
- 31:20May or June, I could see them shipping them out of there
- 31:24because the Saint Louis Cardinals of all teams, I don't
- 31:28think are going to be very accepting of having back-to-back
- 31:33flops. Yeah, like some other teams
- 31:38around the league would be OK with it.
- 31:39But you know, like, we're just in a little bit of a lull.
- 31:42We'll retool, we'll rebuild. But the Cardinals are going to
- 31:44look at this and be like this isn't.
- 31:47This isn't the way we do things. Especially especially in a in a
- 31:50division that's up for grabs every year, especially with
- 31:54Craig Counsel out of out of Milwaukee, this division is up
- 31:58for grabs. Well, I mean, he's staying in
- 32:01division, but. For sure, But I think Milwaukee
- 32:05most likely going to take a step back.
- 32:06And when you're the Cardinals, it's like, are you really going
- 32:09to let the Cubs just step in? What if they go get one of these
- 32:13Otani's or Yamamoto's? Or you know what if they get one
- 32:16of these and the new freaking top three manager like they're
- 32:21making strides? You're Cardinals.
- 32:24You have to keep up, especially when you have two potential Hall
- 32:29of Farmers. In the middle of your order that
- 32:32you're not building or supporting, go get pitching.
- 32:37Go make trades, Get a glass now get a Logan Gilbert.
- 32:43Give Ollie Marmo all the in my mind.
- 32:45Like, if you're going to get rid of a manager, I think you have
- 32:48to give him all of your efforts. Yeah, he deserves that.
- 32:52I agree, right? As an organization, you owe him
- 32:55that. Exactly.
- 32:56You can't tie one hand behind his back, so give him whatever
- 32:58he needs. This roster is close.
- 33:01It needs a lot, needs some love. So give that to Ollie.
- 33:06And like you said, if it's a slow start, you've already
- 33:09pushed chips in the middle of the table.
- 33:11You got to fill that position with somebody like a Yachti
- 33:13Molina Kenta Maeda, 2 year, 24 mil with deal with the Tigers.
- 33:28This is just a a rather bland move.
- 33:33I don't think we'd even be talking about this if if it
- 33:36wasn't November 29th, correct. But this is where we are, so
- 33:41we're going to talk. About Inning Eater Yeah.
- 33:47Yeah. I mean, when he's healthy.
- 33:49Healthy, I'll get up. I don't.
- 33:53I don't know, man. The Tigers are just in such a
- 33:56weird, weird spot. Hold on, we got to pause.
- 33:59All right, what do we got? True or false?
- 34:02This year's ALCS was the first to feature two teams from the
- 34:06same state. Was it the first?
- 34:10That's. First ALCS.
- 34:18All right. Well, let's think of the same
- 34:19states, same state team. So California, Florida, right
- 34:23away. OK.
- 34:24So you would have to have. Angels and A's?
- 34:30You'd have to have Giants or Dodgers.
- 34:34That's a That's NL. This is ALCS only.
- 34:36So what is that? There's a literally that's only
- 34:41A's angels, right? Yeah, that's it.
- 34:46I don't think that would. That sounds like an ALDS match
- 34:49up. Which wouldn't work.
- 34:53My gut says yes. Florida No, because it's just
- 34:57the race. No, it's just the race, Texas
- 35:01or. Yeah.
- 35:01Pennsylvania. No NL.
- 35:09I'd hate to say yes, but I think it's true.
- 35:15I'm gonna put. I think it's true because of the
- 35:18fact that, like, the Asher has switched within the last 15
- 35:22years. Oh, true.
- 35:24Yeah, Yeah, yeah. Oh.
- 35:25Yeah, It wasn't even thinking about that.
- 35:27Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just going to say true with
- 35:32the question. Why do I feel like we're
- 35:33blanking on other states? I'm like as I like scramble for
- 35:43the sake of speed. In my scrambled thinking I can't
- 35:46think of any other. You told it true.
- 35:51You told him true, right? Yeah.
- 35:53All right, hold on. I need to confirm here.
- 36:07Yeah, A's Angels. Not Ohio, Not Indiana.
- 36:21I mean Illinois. Sorry, that's literally it,
- 36:25dude. It's Texas and California.
- 36:28Perfect. Yeah, that's.
- 36:31Angels A's, Angels A's, Angels A's that's.
- 36:36Why am I picturing like hold on who was in?
- 36:40The early 2000s, Yeah. What was the what was their
- 36:43World Series run? ALCS. 03 No, it was O2.
- 36:50The A's Yeah. World Series O2.
- 36:54The Angels. Division Series, Division Series
- 36:57in O3 is for us, right? Or no.
- 37:01O 4. Go ahead, keep going.
- 37:06No, I was just figuring out. I was seeing who they, who they
- 37:09beat the ALCS in O2 in the World Series run.
- 37:12It was the twins. I think we're good.
- 37:15I mean, I think we're like way, way back in the day, but who
- 37:18knows? The angels were more like, oh,
- 37:22they were good in like. When they go the World Series,
- 37:2406 angels, yeah, no, it's O2. That's what I said.
- 37:30That's the year they won. Oh, I was talking about the A's
- 37:32when you when you said O2. Oh no, no.
- 37:36I was talking with the Angels, 'cause that's what I was looking
- 37:38up. The A's?
- 37:40They didn't face the A's in that in that O2 season, right?
- 37:43So in the in the postseason run. Yeah, that's what I was that
- 37:49thought. That's what we were looking up.
- 37:52Well, the only thing we're looking up is the ALCS and I
- 37:54just said it was a twins. Oh, I didn't hear that part O2
- 38:04with like, oh oh, let's play a fun game.
- 38:10Give me David Eckstein. Give me Tim Salmon.
- 38:13Wait, hold on, hold on. Now why is it saying that the AL
- 38:18Division series in O2? Oh right, no, sorry.
- 38:24I know. Yeah, it was a twins and A's
- 38:26individual. Jim Edmonds Maybe not Jim
- 38:33Edmonds. Old Jimmy could have been in
- 38:36Saint Louis around that time. Jose Molina Benji.
- 38:48Benji. Oh, Jose was on the team.
- 38:51OK, he was. He was also on the team.
- 38:53Cool, cool, cool, cool. Who was the pitcher?
- 39:06Who was the pitcher? John Lackey.
- 39:12John Lackey was on the team, yes.
- 39:14All right, I'm running. I'm running low here.
- 39:25Oh, I know one of these outfielders.
- 39:29You know one of these outfielders feel.
- 39:33Like I got Garrett, Anderson. Anderson already, right?
- 39:36Oh, you did? Yeah, that's what I was thinking
- 39:37of. Yeah.
- 39:38Yeah. Kind of feel like he was slept
- 39:39on, man. Yeah, I liked.
- 39:41I liked his swing a lot. Darren Urstadt.
- 39:44Erstadt. Dang it.
- 39:45I knew that you got. There's one more picture I
- 39:49should know, isn't there? Is Gonye?
- 39:57I don't think he was ever with the Angels.
- 39:58I thought it was just the Dodgers.
- 40:01I swore Kanye was an Angel. No, no, you.
- 40:05I think you're right, man. We're really going off the trail
- 40:08here. We're really going with some
- 40:11recall. Nah, he was just for the
- 40:17Dodgers, Dodgers and Rangers and.
- 40:19Then Boston. Then Milwaukee.
- 40:21Yeah, Dang. It was the closer I'm thinking
- 40:26of then. OK, Rod.
- 40:31Yeah, I knew there's a big, big closer there.
- 40:35All right, Troy. Troy Glaus, you've run out of.
- 40:38Time. I'm going to just read off some
- 40:39of these Troy Glaus, Troy Percival, Troy Percival, Jared
- 40:43Washburn, Yeah. Scott Shields, Yeah.
- 40:50Adam Kennedy, Scott Spezio. Oh, Scott, Spezio.
- 40:55Tim. Salmon.
- 40:55Craziest little goatee thing. Little That thing was wild.
- 41:01Tim Salmon. Brad Falmer I got salmon.
- 41:07Sean Figgins. That's a name I even heard.
- 41:10Yeah, I could have got that one if I sat on that a little
- 41:14longer. Wait a minute, Clay Bellinger.
- 41:19That's not. Yeah, that's Dad.
- 41:21Is it really? Yeah.
- 41:23Dad was a Yankee in like 98, I think. 99 Two 1099 2001 Yeah,
- 41:32there's with the Angels and O2. Yeah, a two time World Series
- 41:36champ and he played for. Yeah, barely.
- 41:41How many games this guy play. He played 183 games and won two
- 41:46World Series. That's a wow.
- 41:49That's a baby. That's a story to dive into on
- 41:52another day, anyway, we, I think it's a firefighter out here, by
- 41:55the way. No kidding.
- 41:57Yeah, Paige went to the same school, same high school.
- 42:03Nice, Billy. Anyway, back to the Tigers.
- 42:09Yes, the Yeah man, I don't know that.
- 42:16Every, every couple years here it it's the same cycle.
- 42:19I I do what I can to give the benefit of the doubt.
- 42:22I try to get high on a couple of these teams, try to give him,
- 42:26give him a little bit of a push, little bit of a bump and then
- 42:28they just let me down. And the Tigers were that team
- 42:32for me coming out of the Ali. Holy crap, I forgot you even
- 42:35backed them. I forgot you were even.
- 42:37I really did when I when they brought Hinch over.
- 42:42Torkelson got me excited. And not to say that some of
- 42:45these guys aren't worth getting excited over, but I think
- 42:48Torkelson will find success. Yeah, I see that coming
- 42:54eventually. Give him a couple more years.
- 42:56And who? Knows.
- 42:57Like maybe, maybe it's not to say that they're going to do
- 43:00anything of note this year, but I I I may have to.
- 43:04I think I maybe should have suspended my support for them
- 43:08until they cut ties with Miggy, because I think.
- 43:11I think you're gonna see a new Tigers culture now that we've
- 43:16kind of parted ways with Miggy. I mean nothing but respect for
- 43:20Miggy. But we need to, we need to.
- 43:22That needed to happen. We need to move on now.
- 43:25So, I mean, who knows, maybe maybe they'll, they'll spark up
- 43:31a little buzz again. That needed to happen.
- 43:34Yeah, and you guys need to, like, pan out more.
- 43:38Yeah, they need you guys to show up.
- 43:41I'll have to say Maeda, I I think a a good pick up, but it's
- 43:45not it's not really rocking the boat here.
- 43:47It's not really moving the needle but when he's when he's
- 43:50good he's he's on but not a innings either the way I thought
- 43:55he was. Yeah, didn't play last year in
- 44:01his age, 33 season. In 20/21, he had 21 starts.
- 44:06Year before he had 11, but that's 2020, so that doesn't
- 44:09count. He's 35 this year.
- 44:18He's. Yeah, this is tough.
- 44:24Just eat innings, dude. Just stay healthy and eat
- 44:27innings. That's what this team needs
- 44:29someone to stay healthy. Let me I was curious because
- 44:32when I saw that number I was like 24 mil.
- 44:35I'm it's not earth shattering. But I wondered.
- 44:41I wanted to see what he's earned to this point in his career
- 44:44because that seemed like, seemed like a good chunk of change.
- 44:47You know, for two years. Yeah, 24 mil. 24 mil That's an
- 44:55overpay. That's Hey, we're Detroit.
- 44:58And we're nothing near competitive overpay.
- 45:02Can you please come here and pitch which?
- 45:03Is the only way to explain, or it's the only reason that
- 45:08explains why he would have signed this early?
- 45:10Like, yeah, exactly. Why would you want to go to
- 45:13Detroit? Yeah, someone someone was smart,
- 45:16I think it over in Detroit and just been like, let's offer him
- 45:20now and give him a top dollar now.
- 45:24Who knows man, Maybe E Rod got in his ear and was like, hey
- 45:27man. I I turned down going to LA for
- 45:30this place. Let me tell you why you need to
- 45:33come. Let me tell you about D Town.
- 45:37Kenta Maeda, to this point in his career, has earned He's only
- 45:47been around. He's only been around six years,
- 45:50seven years. He didn't start pitching the big
- 45:54leagues till he's 28. He made 25 mil with the Dodgers
- 46:03contract. Well, that's over.
- 46:06Oh, Yikes. Never mind that's that's over 8
- 46:08years. Oh, interesting.
- 46:15Yeah, I I was just curious. I didn't know what it how it
- 46:17compared to his. Any idea what the rest of that
- 46:19rotation looks like? Is Casey Ma is still a thing?
- 46:23You know, I looked at, I was trying to do a little more
- 46:26research into. When his like expected return is
- 46:30and and some of the reports I was reading his name wasn't even
- 46:33mentioned. But then I, I dug a little more
- 46:35and said that he's resuming. I think back in September he
- 46:39started resuming or he got ramped up a little bit with the
- 46:46throwing program. So I mean usually the throwing
- 46:50program, you're not, you're on the right track, you're not too
- 46:53far out. So I mean.
- 46:56At some point, I would imagine, but as of right now, Tariq
- 47:01Scooble, Matt Manning, Reese Olson, So what?
- 47:09Nothing to get excited about. I don't even, Yeah.
- 47:16And the Tigers at this point, are not in a place to be like,
- 47:19whoa, go out and get a, go out and get a.
- 47:23Well, sure, he's not throwing, but you know.
- 47:26Go out and get a Yamamoto. That's not.
- 47:28I know that. I know you're done with the old,
- 47:34the whole Astros thing, and I won't pick on this too much.
- 47:38I know you're over it. I know that we really wish that
- 47:45there was a some kind of consequence that Astros players
- 47:51felt for what they did. Dude, I think AJ Hinch is like,
- 48:01kind of in, like, baseball purgatory, dude.
- 48:03Like, he absolutely got handed a tough, you know, like, hey,
- 48:11you'll still be in baseball, but.
- 48:16Hope you like Detroit, Buddy. Place stinks, you know what I
- 48:21mean? Like, I think that there's
- 48:23there's some some nice justice that's happening for AJ Hinch
- 48:30and I don't even dislike the guy that much.
- 48:32I don't even think he's. I think he's a good manager,
- 48:35but. Hey, it's a pretty city when it
- 48:37snows, but that's that's about all I got going for him because
- 48:41the Lions are good this year. Yeah, that and I got Eminem.
- 48:45So yeah, not all bad, but yeah, not not a great place to be if
- 48:52you're Hinch. Like I said, especially at this
- 48:54point, I would have thought that they would have sniffed some
- 48:56level of I know. Success at this point, but guys
- 49:00need to start showing up. Javi Baez like OK, you and
- 49:06Giancarlo Stanton need to get together and go to therapy on
- 49:08like accepting change and try something new.
- 49:13Did you see, Speaking of Javi Baez, did you see that, that
- 49:17trade proposal floating around? One for one Trevor Story, Javi
- 49:22Baez? That's where we're at.
- 49:27To revisit my rant at the beginning, that's where we're
- 49:30at. In baseball is we're floating
- 49:32around trade proposals that involve only not as pieces, only
- 49:38Javi Baez and Trevor Story. That's where we're at.
- 49:42If that happened, you you would have to be so pissed if that
- 49:45happened, right? Really.
- 49:50No, I would absolutely be pissed.
- 49:52But like I, I've learned pissed. I'd much rather have Trevor
- 49:57Stewart. Oh, absolutely.
- 49:58No, no, no. But I'm just saying I've, I've,
- 50:00I've had to force myself to get to a point, to just.
- 50:04Roll with the punches. Because what?
- 50:06What good is that? I'm telling you, man, that would
- 50:10make me happy. That Xander ordeal that nearly
- 50:14broke me. So if I hear that, I can.
- 50:17Bounce back from that, sign Tommy Pham.
- 50:20Sign Manny Machado. Sign.
- 50:22Sign all these guys and I'm like eh, about.
- 50:24I'm going to be honest. I'm Marcus Stroman.
- 50:26Whatever. This is like when, like Jeter
- 50:29kind of had like, his woes in the in the late like 2000s, You
- 50:37know what I mean? Like preteens, late 2000s, where
- 50:40like just a little bit of questionable rumors and stuff.
- 50:45He might go elsewhere, if that. If Jeter went somewhere else, I
- 50:50think it's equivalent to this. I think it's equivalent to
- 50:54Xander leaving where he was. He should have spent the rest of
- 50:58his career. He should have been a lifer.
- 51:00He should have his number retired there.
- 51:03I get it. I see why it hurts.
- 51:06Trust me, I enjoy the hurt in my own selfish, sick ways.
- 51:13I'm enjoying this. But at the same time I'm also
- 51:19miserable so. That's the thing I just miss
- 51:24feeling that, like genuine hatred for another team.
- 51:26I just I'm. Yeah, I'm just kind of numb at
- 51:29this point and this offseason is not really helping, but it's
- 51:32getting older. It's still early, though.
- 51:34That's going to be a part of it too.
- 51:36I don't know. Speaking of Speaking of the
- 51:42Yankees, now former Yankee Luis Severino, just within hours of
- 51:53us hopping on. It was announced that he is
- 51:56heading to the Mets on a one year, $13 million deal.
- 52:00It's only 29, and he will be joining the Mets, who have
- 52:07already announced that they're not competing in 2024, which if
- 52:14you're doing the math at home, is the season that Severino will
- 52:18be pitching for them. So.
- 52:20Really just a move to fill a slot in the rotation at this
- 52:26point, because you've already told you, you've already made it
- 52:31known to your fan base that none of this matters.
- 52:34So really this is just an opportunity for him to bet on
- 52:37himself a little bit maybe. Yeah, get that payday that he's
- 52:41looking for on the other side of it.
- 52:42But big time. Big time.
- 52:46I'm so there's a list of players.
- 52:48There's a list of like former Yankees that are just dead to
- 52:52me. You know what I mean?
- 52:55Like Josh Donaldson, like Jacoby Ellsberry, You know what I'm
- 53:03saying? Like those those types, Joey
- 53:05Gallo, those types of players, they're just dead to me.
- 53:09I'd I I've blacked out on the fact that you were ever a
- 53:12Yankee, right? You don't have a soft spot in
- 53:15your heart for Joey Gallo. I don't, no.
- 53:19Tough. No, because it it's just it
- 53:22never should have happened. I don't blame him.
- 53:24I'm just like, you're like, whatever.
- 53:26I don't even that's out of my brain.
- 53:29I'm going to grow old and I'm going to forget that you were
- 53:33ever a Yankee. Luis Severino is absolutely not
- 53:39on that list. Luisa, I can't.
- 53:42I hope he does well. I'm rooting for that guy.
- 53:45I really want to do. Quite a turn of events, I was
- 53:47not. I didn't think you're going
- 53:49this, you like that. I really, really, really like
- 53:52him. I think he's awesome.
- 53:54And I think it was a it was a mutual things equivalent of an A
- 53:59mutual breakup. Both parties know exactly, hey,
- 54:04I need to go my separate way, and Luisa Everino couldn't stay
- 54:08healthy, but when he when he when he was healthy, that dude's
- 54:12good, That guy's good, that guy's got juice, and if you can
- 54:18go figure some stuff out, I think he will get a payday.
- 54:23And I love this. You stay in New York, you stay
- 54:27relevant enough. You're still on the map, right?
- 54:30You're not off the map. For a team that has no pressure,
- 54:38it's a perfect. It's a perfect fit.
- 54:40I love it. I'm rooting for him.
- 54:42I hope he does well. I hope he doesn't let too much
- 54:48met on him, if that makes sense, because I think he'll he could
- 54:54be. Who knows, dude.
- 54:55This is the kind of guy like if he stays healthy and catches
- 54:58heat, a contender will absolutely trade for him next
- 55:03year, will absolutely slot him in.
- 55:06If that guy is moving well and doing his thing and slots right
- 55:11in as A34 starter, he's going to contender.
- 55:16If he's if he's well. So I hope he is and I hope he
- 55:21goes in and gets what he deserves.
- 55:24The Yankees, you know, couldn't keep him healthy as much as he
- 55:26couldn't stay healthy. I think there's a lot of the
- 55:28Yankees not being able to keep him healthy.
- 55:31I hate our training staff. Obviously there no clue what's
- 55:35going on. Breaking news, The Mets and Joey
- 55:43Wendell are in agreement on a contract.
- 55:47Cool. Anyway, the the name that I want
- 55:56to just talk briefly about, because I mean one of the top
- 56:00names out there. But really, not much to discuss
- 56:03as we've alluded to already. But Yamamoto?
- 56:09Things we do know about Yamamoto.
- 56:11He was just named the MVP over there in Japan.
- 56:17Won it for the third time. Third.
- 56:19Third straight actually. Little note here, It joins
- 56:23Ichiro Suzuki and Hisashi Yamada as the only players to win the
- 56:28MVP three years in a row. So correct?
- 56:34Yes, that's worth noting. Went 16 and six with a 121 and
- 56:40then a WHIP of .884 and 23. When you read it out loud, it
- 56:45just hits different. You know, I'm it.
- 56:53It's worth, It's worth. Reminding the listeners, 'cause
- 56:57I believe I've said this before. I think I'm at a place now where
- 57:01the whole overseas thing does not bother me anymore.
- 57:04Now that we've gotten Shohei and I know we've crossed this
- 57:07bridge. Yeah, yeah, Shohei.
- 57:09Is certainly Unicorn. I understand that.
- 57:12But for the longest time, I just really struggled to wrap my head
- 57:16around the fact that a guy could come over from Japan or
- 57:21elsewhere, mostly typically Japan.
- 57:25And succeed the way that they were projected to.
- 57:29I was just like, it's just a different world over here, but
- 57:32we've seen as of late that guys can come over here and and
- 57:37settle in just fine. So aside from the fact that we
- 57:41know that this guy is just unreal and dices over there, I'm
- 57:47genuinely excited to see where he ends up.
- 57:50And I am too. A little biased 'cause I know
- 57:52the socks are in on the mix a little bit, but I know the Yanks
- 57:55are in too, so I'm about it as well.
- 57:58Oh, well, I was gonna. I'm glad you brought that up
- 58:01because I saw the report that said.
- 58:04And please tell me that you didn't fall for this.
- 58:08I saw the report that the Yankees were, quote saving #18
- 58:16Oh yeah, Yamamoto for over the last year.
- 58:19My question to you is, Nate, do you by chance remember an
- 58:27individual name? Andrew Benintendi.
- 58:31I do. I do remember do.
- 58:33You by chance remember what number he was?
- 58:35I remember him wearing 18. Yeah.
- 58:38And do you by chance remember the fact that the Yankees last
- 58:43free agency, which was a year ago, right?
- 58:49Offered him a four year contract to presumably wear #18 for the
- 58:57Yankees, but I'm being told that they've been saving this for
- 59:00over a year even though they offered him him Andrew
- 59:06Benintendi, a four year contract last offseason.
- 59:09So is this or is this not the worst attempt at PR?
- 59:17We've ever seen. I need to confirm.
- 59:26Yeah, he's 23 now. OK, I was just curious.
- 59:34It's a bad attempt. It's it's a bad attempt.
- 59:37It's horrendous. It's what it is.
- 59:39It's tough. I could see not over a year and
- 59:43a half. I could see this being an in
- 59:45season decision when you started seeing guys come up and you know
- 59:51like names that are probably going to be a piece of the
- 59:54future, like an Austin Wells. I could see that being a
- 59:58situation where they were like, yes, sorry, we're going to save
- 1:00:02it because Cashman was over there.
- 1:00:06He watched Yamamoto throw no hitter.
- 1:00:09Yeah. No, I.
- 1:00:10So he was like he was there. So I I think the scouting has
- 1:00:14been there. But I'm not buying into the to
- 1:00:17the number thing. You could try this as much as
- 1:00:19you want. I thrive on those stories.
- 1:00:23I thrive on GM's going to players Thanksgiving dinner to
- 1:00:30try and get him to sign. I eat that stuff up and it's old
- 1:00:34school. And that's the stuff we grew up
- 1:00:36here in. That's what Theo did with Curt
- 1:00:38Schilling Old School to his house on Thanksgiving in Wild.
- 1:00:42That's what I'm saying. I thrive on those stories.
- 1:00:45I freaking love those. I'll eat those up any chance I
- 1:00:48get. As much as this is trying to be
- 1:00:50one of those stories, it's not so nice try.
- 1:00:56But this is what the Yankees are at now.
- 1:00:58This is what we have to do. You can't just be the Yankees.
- 1:01:02You have to come up with this cute little crap and try to make
- 1:01:06it seem romantic. Yeah, I just want to touch on it
- 1:01:11briefly because like I said, there's everybody and their
- 1:01:15mother is in on this guy. So I'm not going to sit here and
- 1:01:18and speculate about contract projections and where the best
- 1:01:25fit is. But I did want to ask you
- 1:01:27though, maybe him and maybe a few other names.
- 1:01:32Where would outside of New York, where do you think he would be a
- 1:01:37great fit at? Probably San Francisco.
- 1:01:42I think that's the the biggest fit for me.
- 1:01:47I think San Francisco is. We've said this before, like
- 1:01:50obviously they were right there with Aaron Judge.
- 1:01:54They were right there with Correa, like they are thirsty to
- 1:02:00switch things up. They are absolutely thirsty,
- 1:02:03almost desperate. So I very much could see that
- 1:02:08happening. Yeah, Then it makes sense.
- 1:02:15Yeah, I did. I I saw a report this week,
- 1:02:17whether or not you want to believe it.
- 1:02:19I probably don't. I don't even remember who put it
- 1:02:24out there. But it was him, Shohei.
- 1:02:27And was it belly? Was it Snell?
- 1:02:35It said that it may have been Heyman.
- 1:02:39I think it was Heyman. That the Giants are getting one
- 1:02:43of them? No, that there were that we
- 1:02:46should expect them to get two of them, which I'm like, OK.
- 1:02:54I don't see the Ohtani thing. It's not a hitter friendly
- 1:02:58ballpark. It's cold, it's windy, but I
- 1:03:02just don't see that. I don't see him.
- 1:03:06I don't. They're talking about rumors of
- 1:03:08him playing in the outfield. I don't see him playing that
- 1:03:10outfield. Too big, too much going on.
- 1:03:15I did watch that show. Hey Doc, do.
- 1:03:17You like it? Very very strong.
- 1:03:19I really highly recommend. Yeah, I I was thinking about
- 1:03:23this the second you brought this up, it came into my head.
- 1:03:27I you you're a Family Guy, right?
- 1:03:30Family Guy. Guy.
- 1:03:32Family Guy. Guy.
- 1:03:33Yeah, Yeah. Well, I think it was Peter that
- 1:03:39went to a game. And he's like, he like sits down
- 1:03:41with like a hot dog and a beer and he's like nothing more
- 1:03:45American than sitting here and watching 9 Latinos on the field
- 1:03:48or whatever, right? Yeah.
- 1:03:51I think the word what Otani has done could get us to the point
- 1:03:58where like Asians and like Asian baseball could step in as like
- 1:04:02the next generation of like. Running Major League Baseball.
- 1:04:06Like having a huge. Yeah.
- 1:04:08Like a new Latino present. Exactly.
- 1:04:12Yeah. Like there.
- 1:04:14I think it could be that way. So I agree with you.
- 1:04:18I think you said it like the first statement you said was,
- 1:04:21you know, guys coming from Japan or Korea, like don't really make
- 1:04:25me nervous anymore as far as like can they translate over
- 1:04:29into the MLBI. Agree.
- 1:04:32I think that's over. And I think, like Ohtani being
- 1:04:35good, just being so good. And of course you have those
- 1:04:39other legends. Of course you have Ichiro, of
- 1:04:41course you have Hadaki, Matsui, Hideya, Nomo, Like, of course
- 1:04:45you have these names you can touch on.
- 1:04:47But I think now more than ever, it's like, oh, this is what it
- 1:04:51takes to be at the top of baseball.
- 1:04:54And everyone knows his name. It's doing a lot for that
- 1:04:59culture. It's doing a lot for guys like
- 1:05:01this so. I'm pumped.
- 1:05:03I think it's going to be, it's going to be, it's going to be
- 1:05:06fun to sit back and just watch this guy pitch and do his thing.
- 1:05:12Speaking of Shohei, one of the other reports, whether or not
- 1:05:16you want to believe it, said that he possibly could make a
- 1:05:19decision by the winter meetings, which honestly.
- 1:05:25That was my prediction. I thought about it and I'm like,
- 1:05:28if there was a guy that wasn't going to necessarily play the
- 1:05:33politics and and wait it. Out and I I I think you were and
- 1:05:39I think I gave you credit when you brought that point up.
- 1:05:41I think it's a very valid point where he's going to just want to
- 1:05:43get settled in, assuming it's a place he's going to be locked
- 1:05:47into for 8 plus years. I think he's just want to he's
- 1:05:53going to want to get settled in and he's not going to want to
- 1:05:55have to do a whole bunch of waiting around because you know
- 1:05:58he's already being. He's already being sought after.
- 1:06:03Like, it's not like a it's not a matter of that.
- 1:06:06It's just a matter of where do you want to play, how much money
- 1:06:09do you want to earn with this contract?
- 1:06:12Yeah, and let's go. That's really all I could.
- 1:06:14See, I never. I haven't asked you yet.
- 1:06:16How big of a fan are you about the whole?
- 1:06:18Like, hey, if you leak news about our meetings, it's going
- 1:06:22to count against you. Oh, I love it.
- 1:06:25Because I love that all these people on Facebook who clearly
- 1:06:29know nothing about Shohei Ohtani, they're like, what kind
- 1:06:34of arrogance is that to think that, like, you can control your
- 1:06:37narrative? I'm like, you know nothing about
- 1:06:40Shohei Ohtani. This has nothing to do with,
- 1:06:43like, trying to keep an upper hand.
- 1:06:46It's it's more about discretion. Discretion.
- 1:06:50Exactly. And and the ways in which you
- 1:06:54can the parties can respect one another and be like. 100% if
- 1:06:58you're willing to do this for me, to kind of keep it under
- 1:07:01wraps out of respect for me, my family, my agent, so on and so.
- 1:07:05Forth, I love it. Then I'll return the favor and
- 1:07:08do and offer you everything I can as a baseball player.
- 1:07:12It has nothing to do with arrogance.
- 1:07:14Get out of here with that narrative.
- 1:07:16That's a bunch of nonsense. I I I'm all about.
- 1:07:19I couldn't love this more. I couldn't love it more.
- 1:07:22I even got scared. I saw, even though I think the
- 1:07:25Yankees are out and I'm pretty sure this was most likely like
- 1:07:28Photoshopped or whatever, I saw this picture that it was like,
- 1:07:32you can tell it's obviously like a cell phone that took a picture
- 1:07:35of the big screen, like the scoreboard in Yankee Stadium and
- 1:07:39it had like Welcome Show hey on it.
- 1:07:42And it had Show Han and Yankee like uniform.
- 1:07:45And I knew that I was like, if that was true, that would be all
- 1:07:48over the place and way bigger. It was a small little account,
- 1:07:53had to be photoshopped. But what I'm saying is that what
- 1:07:57I'm saying is that I saw it and I got nervous.
- 1:08:00That's how much I'm bought into this thing.
- 1:08:02Because that this student means something.
- 1:08:04When he says it, he means it. No, I'm.
- 1:08:07So to answer your question, I'm all in.
- 1:08:09And I love. I love watching people have a
- 1:08:11field day with it. They're like sources confirm
- 1:08:14that Shohei was walking out of Tony's Pizza on 54th Ave. in the
- 1:08:19Bronx. Like, dude, just the.
- 1:08:22Just doing whatever they can to get something fake to blow up.
- 1:08:28Yeah, I'm all about it. I like it.
- 1:08:31I'm a fan. I Yeah, good for Shohei.
- 1:08:35If not either of our teams. Where do you want to see him end
- 1:08:39up? Shohei.
- 1:08:40For the sake of his career? For the sake of baseball?
- 1:08:45For the sake of entertainment? Where would you want to see him
- 1:08:47end up? Seattle Wow.
- 1:08:50OK. Oh, I think you've maybe you've
- 1:08:52hinted at that before. That would be if I got to
- 1:08:54choose. It would be Seattle.
- 1:08:56Yeah. If he wasn't a Yankee.
- 1:08:58Obviously I would freaking kill. And I I don't think they're in
- 1:09:01anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
- 1:09:04I would, I would say Seattle. I just, I understand like the
- 1:09:08shadow of Ichiro or whatever. But just like it's just they're
- 1:09:11in the right place. It's a perfect ballpark for
- 1:09:14them. I it just it checks so many
- 1:09:17boxes. You don't say Texas all I no no
- 1:09:26show hey in Texas. Although show hey, doing Texas
- 1:09:29would be awesome. I would watch that show any day
- 1:09:32of the week and he's like chicken and waffles like that
- 1:09:36would be show. Hey in cowboy boots.
- 1:09:38Need it, need it. Biscuits and gravy.
- 1:09:42What is this Shohei does? Biscuits and gravy.
- 1:09:45I would eat that up, dude. If that was a YouTube channel
- 1:09:49I'd watch oh, I can already see the don't mess with Shohei Texas
- 1:09:53themed shirts coming out. Dang, I'm kind of, I'm kind of
- 1:09:56getting hyped about it. I'm kind of, I'm kind of about
- 1:09:59it. No.
- 1:10:00But I what I will say is if we wait this whole time, because
- 1:10:04you got to remember, we went through this whole deadline
- 1:10:07business about is he going to get dealt?
- 1:10:09We've waited for a year plus knowing that this free agency
- 1:10:14was imminent. We've waited a year plus.
- 1:10:16And if it ends up being that he goes to the Dodgers, I may just
- 1:10:21walk away from baseball together because I'm I'm already at a
- 1:10:24pretty weak point with this sport right now.
- 1:10:27If show, hey of all people winds up with the Dodgers, I'm going
- 1:10:31to lose it. I'm going.
- 1:10:33To see that was going to be my answer if you if you asked me
- 1:10:36who I think. Versus who I want, I want
- 1:10:42Seattle. I think Lai think he's.
- 1:10:46I think he's going to be a Dodger.
- 1:10:52It's just a desperate organization right now.
- 1:10:58Show hey in Hollywood, think of like the whole media thing.
- 1:11:01Think of like outside of baseball.
- 1:11:03It's like the next. It's like then when we talked
- 1:11:06about making a show about him, dude, Like, think about show.
- 1:11:09Hey, in Hollywood, this is like the next Kelsey T Swift crap.
- 1:11:13That's what's going to We're going to get it shoved down our
- 1:11:15throat. We don't need it.
- 1:11:16No. But what was interesting and
- 1:11:18this all I'll say about the doc I don't want.
- 1:11:19To dating show Hey, That's the next show.
- 1:11:22Dating show Hey, no, the only thing I'll say about the doc
- 1:11:25because like I said, don't want to spoil it, but they they
- 1:11:27there's a bit in there asking him or like talking about why he
- 1:11:31chose the angels and nobody could figure it out.
- 1:11:33Why? Like his agent didn't even
- 1:11:36really know. There was just a lot of
- 1:11:38confusion on speculation. Well yeah, hindsight.
- 1:11:43But it really made me wonder. I'm like, is there something to
- 1:11:46show his game that he recognizes that the attention is going to
- 1:11:50be there regardless, but it's how much he wants to bring that
- 1:11:55on himself And and sure, I know it's still like LA, Anaheim,
- 1:12:00whatever. But that's certainly different
- 1:12:03than going to the Dodgers, where you've got guys like Mookie
- 1:12:06Betts there. Like, it's it's a whole, it's a
- 1:12:08whole different world in in in Dodger.
- 1:12:11Town What about What about Chicago?
- 1:12:16That's what I'm saying is like, I don't know how much.
- 1:12:19Craig counsel's like a low key guy.
- 1:12:22He's like a low key, quiet guy. I bet him and show he would hit
- 1:12:26it off. They have like the same
- 1:12:27demeanor. I could see Chicago I like.
- 1:12:31I like Seattle too. That's a good fit.
- 1:12:33I don't know. There's just not really a team
- 1:12:35that's like, really Scream. I mean, I agree.
- 1:12:38I I guess by I. Can go Dodgers.
- 1:12:41I can close my eyes and see a Yu, though.
- 1:12:45I can see it. I can picture it.
- 1:12:47I could picture him in at Fenway.
- 1:12:50Bring. You know what?
- 1:12:51Bring him over. We've already got Yoshida.
- 1:12:55Bring over Yamamoto. Let's just let's just make.
- 1:12:58The know if him and Yoshida are are boys.
- 1:13:01Yeah, they were on, They were on.
- 1:13:03They're on the WBC, right? Yeah, they they, yeah, back in
- 1:13:08back in March all. Right, so they are boys, dude.
- 1:13:11If you got both, that would flip the script for you real fast,
- 1:13:15wouldn't it dude? We could get for the Verdugo.
- 1:13:19For the record, I'm already on board with the socks.
- 1:13:21So on the off channel I want to, I want to clarify that because
- 1:13:25if by chance they signed one of one of these two guys or both,
- 1:13:30you know, or both. I don't want people being like,
- 1:13:33oh, it's interesting how we just sat the bench last year.
- 1:13:36No, no, no. I had.
- 1:13:38I had. Many new listeners.
- 1:13:41He did not sit the bench. This guy was miserable, and so
- 1:13:43am I I had good reason, but I'm on board as it stands right now,
- 1:13:48just because we got Haim out of there.
- 1:13:49So, Craig Breslow, let's ride. I don't do what you got to do.
- 1:13:54Let's go get Shohei. Go get Yamamoto.
- 1:13:56Let's ride. OK, that should bring us to a
- 1:14:04close here. Is there anything else you
- 1:14:06wanted to touch on? Because.
- 1:14:08And we can. We could speculate about
- 1:14:10destinations till we're blue in the face.
- 1:14:12But. We sure could have no interest
- 1:14:14in doing that. So I would imagine by the next
- 1:14:18time that you hear from us, one of these names at minimum will
- 1:14:23have come off the board. So we'll be sure to get into
- 1:14:26that. We've got a possible interview
- 1:14:29coming up next week, haven't haven't confirmed, but I think I
- 1:14:37think you guys will like this one.
- 1:14:39It's going to be going to be good if it works out, but we may
- 1:14:42sneak a three O change up in there between now and then and
- 1:14:46we'll see. Yeah, but yeah, keep keep an eye
- 1:14:50out. Keep an eye out for a possible
- 1:14:53interview next week, but other than that, you got anything
- 1:14:57else? Negatory.
- 1:15:01Negatory. Oh, I oh, last thing.
- 1:15:04Last thing. Go go hinting also next week at
- 1:15:10the start of a possible little segment idea that we are kicking
- 1:15:13around. We are looking for something to
- 1:15:17to, yeah, have in our back pocket for these offseason
- 1:15:22episodes, especially when things are a little slow like kind of
- 1:15:25like they are right now. And we I threw out the idea to
- 1:15:32you. You were on board with it and
- 1:15:34then you kind of added added a possible element to it.
- 1:15:38We'll we'll have to workshop it a little bit.
- 1:15:40But I threw out the idea of diving into some unbreakable
- 1:15:45records, some more noteworthy than others.
- 1:15:48You know like you've got your your Cal Ripken consecutive game
- 1:15:51streak but some others that are maybe not AS talks about such as
- 1:15:58a Bobby Cox ejection record career record some things like
- 1:16:03that. So we may pick, we may do like a
- 1:16:07little randomizer, little pick each week and.
- 1:16:14We'll we'll we'll preface it for the the week to come but might
- 1:16:21be something we we start off with next week we'll see but
- 1:16:24just want to get that on your radar.
- 1:16:26Love it. What were you going to say?
- 1:16:28Go ahead. Seems so small now.
- 1:16:32I was going to say we should by next year.
- 1:16:35Let's try to come up with three O take ornaments for the tree.
- 1:16:42That'd be cool. I do have a Charlie Brown tree.
- 1:16:45I might pop that up right there. Take away my tinfoil hat.
- 1:16:49I got the Christmas lights up behind me.
- 1:16:51So my conspiracy hat. That's what I'm working with
- 1:16:55right now. Let's do a change up episode
- 1:16:57soon. What do you say you want to you
- 1:17:02want to let people know what it what we're doing.
- 1:17:05We haven't even talked about it. But you want to.
- 1:17:07You just want to pick one right here, right now.
- 1:17:09Let's just pick one. I like that.
- 1:17:11You know, honestly, I mentioned it and I think you were on board
- 1:17:14with it and I would love to do it.
- 1:17:15I think it's, it just works for both of us.
- 1:17:17You want to do flying. You want the next one we do to
- 1:17:20be flying. I do.
- 1:17:22I do. There we go.
- 1:17:23That's our next change up. We're going to be talking about
- 1:17:26the experience of flying and all that comes with it.
- 1:17:28So whether or not you, if you don't, I'm going to be negative.
- 1:17:32I'm going to be a negative Nancy on that one, so just buckle up.
- 1:17:36If you don't travel, you'll get a a a little peek behind the
- 1:17:40curtain as to what it's like if you do travel.
- 1:17:43You can. You can sympathize.
- 1:17:46Empathize with our misery as people who who travel from time
- 1:17:50to time, but you more so than me.
- 1:17:52But I hate it a time or two. And I hate it.
- 1:17:55I hate it more every time I do it.
- 1:17:58It's quite an experience. So yeah, that'll be our next
- 1:18:01change up topic. Let's keep an eye out for that
- 1:18:03one. But other than that, that will
- 1:18:07do it. Don't go chasing curveballs.
- 1:18:10We love you all. And as always, looking forward
- 1:18:12to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:18:13Until next time, stay filthy.
