- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three O take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes it.
- 0:11All. Starts right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the three O take presented by C geek.
- 0:17This is episode 436. I'll be your host, Kyle Corn,
- 0:20and I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:26Nate, how about it? A bet's a bet.
- 0:39Oh man, you look like a like a middle school PE teacher.
- 0:45I kind of look like AD 2 football coach if I'm being
- 0:49honest. Tell me I don't look like AD 2
- 0:54football coach. I I think you look like a high
- 0:58school JV softball first base coach.
- 1:04I mean, I was trying to to, you know, humble myself a little bit
- 1:10by saying I was D2, I wasn't going to go all the way D1.
- 1:12I'm missing, I'm missing that degree of of swag.
- 1:15But you're going to take me. You're going to drop me all the
- 1:17way down to first base coach of AJV softball team.
- 1:20That's. Great, great.
- 1:23Fit the top button too, huh? Yeah, I'm going classy.
- 1:27I I opted for the classy route. I mean, we'll see.
- 1:32We'll see how things go. Maybe if things get, maybe if
- 1:34things get loose, I might, I might undo it.
- 1:36We'll see. I was going to say but your your
- 1:38AC isn't working right now, so maybe you got to let it let the
- 1:42chest go, let it breathe, breathe a little bit.
- 1:44Let breathe a little bit. How?
- 1:49How does it feel? Is it?
- 1:50Is it itchy? Is it?
- 1:52Breathable, I said before we, before we hopped on, actually
- 1:56hold on. I need to.
- 1:57I need to put the tweet out to let the folks know that the gold
- 2:00the gold pillow has arrived. Yeah, and if you're not
- 2:02watching, either stream or or subscribe to YouTube.
- 2:08There's never been a better time.
- 2:09Let's just get that done now and witness what I'm looking at
- 2:15right now. The visor too.
- 2:19You look like Steve Spurrier's long lost step cousin if.
- 2:26Steve Spurrier's long lost step cousin was AD 2 football coach.
- 2:31Yeah. So some some thoughts here on on
- 2:34the on the gold polo. First of all, I wish.
- 2:40I wish it was the the mic was on the other side.
- 2:43You know, we we can make that. Adjustment.
- 2:45There we go. Let's let's make the adjustment
- 2:47here just for the time being all right, so everything is iron
- 2:52like iron press. I don't I'm supposed to wear
- 2:54this for I think we said 14 episodes.
- 2:57I I'll be honest with you, I don't know if it's going to make
- 2:59it to 14 episodes. I might just be wearing a
- 3:01generic gold polo and it we're not going to have any context as
- 3:05a why I'm wearing it because that's perfect.
- 3:07This may be gone that I mean that's classic as fashion.
- 3:11This might this it it could fall this episode.
- 3:16It could fall off, if I'm being honest.
- 3:17And then the A's logo on the side the the the patch it, it's
- 3:24hard to see, but like it's it's almost coming off.
- 3:27Sure, I don't know if you can see it there, but it's it's not
- 3:30looking good. Well, you got an iron, right?
- 3:36I get yeah, but I don't, I don't even know if that's going to fix
- 3:39it. Well, we'll see, but look a.
- 3:41Lot of uniforms get ironed, you know it's.
- 3:46Professionalism, this is this is majestic too, so I don't know
- 3:49what's going on. I I expected a little bit better
- 3:52from. Probably 15 years old.
- 3:54That's what I'm guessing. I can't.
- 3:56I want to know, did you communicate with the guy at all
- 4:00off of eBay? Like how stoked was this man?
- 4:03Oh, you know that this had been sitting in his closet.
- 4:06He he had this listing was probably on eBay for at least
- 4:11five years. Yeah, His wife was just like,
- 4:13can we please just throw it away?
- 4:16No. He was like, he was probably
- 4:18like, he's probably like, all right, we'll get rid of it
- 4:21today. Let me just log into my eBay
- 4:23real quick and then I'll take it out to the trash.
- 4:25And sure enough, there is a notification letting him know
- 4:28that a young gentleman out in Virginia had just purchased it.
- 4:33Because that makes sense. Oh yes.
- 4:37Unbelievable. So we have somebody in that we
- 4:39got somebody in the chat asking if we're giants fans know.
- 4:42So last I, I feel like I've explained the bet enough times
- 4:47already. This will be the last one I
- 4:48promise. But now that the, now that the
- 4:51merch has arrived, if like put a bow on it, the bet was I guess
- 4:57what, 2-3 weeks ago at this point, I was, I was real high on
- 5:02the A's and you were challenging me on it so much so that you,
- 5:05you presented a bet and you said, all right, if the A we'll
- 5:08see how the next two weeks go. It was like 14, a 14 game span.
- 5:12And we decided that if the A's went, if, if the A's played 500
- 5:17ball or better, that I would win the bet.
- 5:22And if they were under 500 that you would win the bet.
- 5:28And they and and I had mentioned certain statistics on here that
- 5:34like more certainly validated my thoughts on the A's at that
- 5:39point in time. I had no statistics.
- 5:41The offense was rolling Mason the the the hyper on Mason
- 5:44Miller could not have been higher.
- 5:48I was going off numbers. Nate was going off gut.
- 5:50And then they proceeded to go, I think like two and two and.
- 5:55Seven. I think they were two and eight,
- 5:57two and eight in the 10 game stretch.
- 5:59We didn't even need to go to 14. You immediately lost.
- 6:03Yeah, so the the bet or the the wager, the final determining the
- 6:09wager there was that the loser was going to have to wear this
- 6:14merch, this get up this Billy Bean looking get up every
- 6:20episode until the All Star break.
- 6:22So it is here and it shall stay until mid-july.
- 6:27So, so good. A bet's a bet.
- 6:30I, I'll be honest with you, I, I, I toyed with the idea of
- 6:34skipping tonight as punishment to you for robbing me of our
- 6:42fantasy match up because you're not going to feel any sort of
- 6:46impact on that. So this was my old, this was my
- 6:50one chance as I go, OK, maybe I'll make an executive decision
- 6:53here and opt to not wear the A's merch the first night that it
- 6:57it's available. But you know, I'm, I'm man of
- 7:01integrity. I, I said I'd give you 14
- 7:03episodes and I'm going to give you 14 episodes with this.
- 7:05So it's. Absolutely delightful.
- 7:08It's incredible. Did the bill come in curve that
- 7:10way or did you? It did.
- 7:11It did. Fresh out of the bath.
- 7:13In fact, I think I may may have just taken out-of-the-box like
- 7:16yesterday so. Excellent.
- 7:17The Velcro strap on the back I hope.
- 7:19Oh it's it's it says one-size-fits-all.
- 7:22It is on the last bit of Velcro. I got a big old head.
- 7:27You do have a big melon so I was hoping it it actually looks
- 7:32better than I had drawn up in in.
- 7:34My, I'm telling you man, with the headset, I'm looking.
- 7:37You look good in yellow. It looks good on camera, I'm not
- 7:41going to lie. Nice backdrop.
- 7:44It really pops. So, you know, I, I think the
- 7:47people were right when they were saying it when I, when we had
- 7:49tweeted out the, the outfit, they were like, whoever has to
- 7:55wear that actually might be the winner at the end of the day.
- 7:58And I, I looking at this, the way this looks right now, I, I
- 8:03got to give it to him. I think they may have been on to
- 8:05something there because I think I'm going to enjoy wearing this
- 8:07for the next couple months. Silver Linings, I should have
- 8:09put in a clause. I should have put in something
- 8:12of like if they didn't, even if if they couldn't get to five
- 8:16wins or something, you wouldn't have been able to wash it.
- 8:19Something like that. I, I going back, I would have
- 8:22done it over. I would have done something
- 8:24differently. It's, I mean I I think given
- 8:30the. Time's the blow.
- 8:32Yeah, Spencer in the chat says the outfit makes the Acuna news
- 8:35less crappy. Love it.
- 8:36I I think given the time that we had to decide because we had to
- 8:40start the wager like I think it was that night or I think they
- 8:44had it was like an off day. We had to decide by the next
- 8:46night or something. I think with the time allotted,
- 8:48I I think we made it work. We.
- 8:50Were on a time crunch for sure and if you'd like we can we can
- 8:54maybe come up with a another bet post All Star game and see if
- 9:00you can get even you know. Oh, we're going to I, I like the
- 9:04bet. We're this is going to be like a
- 9:05new thing. We're just going to, there's
- 9:07going to be a constant bet. It's going to be a rolling bet
- 9:11incrementally. We'll, we'll be, we'll be doing
- 9:14stupid things like this. So while I say stupid, I'm not
- 9:17going to lie, look pretty good so.
- 9:18I need you to get a chain. I'm just being honest outside of
- 9:21the collar. Can you do that for me?
- 9:24I mean, I have like my my black one that I always wear here.
- 9:27I don't know if that's going to America going to look like even
- 9:29more. No this.
- 9:30Is what this is what the kids do nowadays?
- 9:32Is this really what they do? They wear it outside the outside
- 9:35the collar, especially in the football, in the football
- 9:42community. Oh, yeah.
- 9:43No, no, no, outside. It's got to go under the collar.
- 9:45Like oh, oh, oh, yeah. Oh yeah, yeah, I know what?
- 9:49You're talking about. That's delightful.
- 9:53There we go. There we go.
- 9:57Hang it up in the rafters, baby. That's going to be excellent.
- 10:01Oh. Yeah.
- 10:02Oh, baby. I feel good now, man.
- 10:07All right, let's get into it. Does it?
- 10:09Well, I'll. I'll give you the final.
- 10:11The final. Say this was your this was your
- 10:13bet to win. You want it?
- 10:14Is there anything else you any closing remarks before this
- 10:17penalty begins officially? No clothes, just extremely
- 10:23grateful for this opportunity. I'd like to thank the way my gut
- 10:31in here tells me certain things about baseball bets, and I don't
- 10:37hit many, but this one hit and I'm proud of it.
- 10:44Well, I mean, they're in the they're they're just all over.
- 10:46They're in the chat. Just saying it looks great.
- 10:48Kyle. He looks great.
- 10:50He I knew Kyle look outstanding. The Golden Green By the end of
- 10:54this episode, I very well may be on a flight out to Oakland to.
- 10:58That's great. Let's let's talk 6-7 episodes in
- 11:02and see if the sentiment stays the same.
- 11:04You. Know it'll be there.
- 11:06Ace fan for life. Let's talk about Ronald Cooney
- 11:11junior. We got we got some bad news to
- 11:14talk there. We got to talk red sweep and the
- 11:17dodgers. We got to talk guardians win
- 11:19streak. We're going to talk Mets just
- 11:26doing what the Mets do, and we're going to talk some more
- 11:30City connects because it seems like we do that every episode
- 11:33now, so. I can't wait until we're done.
- 11:37We got to be close, right? I mean, I think we did, yeah.
- 11:40There's only like 2 more. No, I'm talking like this year
- 11:44though, like we got to because like because they do like the
- 11:46annual schedule. This has to be it.
- 11:48Well, no, I think you're right. I think the list all together we
- 11:51got to be, we got to be getting some real close.
- 11:56I hope so. But going back to the top, let's
- 12:00talk some Ronald Kuni junior brutal news coming out of Braves
- 12:04camp. Out for the season.
- 12:09Out for the season, which I, to be honest with you, I did not
- 12:12see coming because he walked off on his own power, or at least
- 12:17like 8090% his power from what I could tell.
- 12:22I knew it right away. Did you really?
- 12:25Yeah, the, the ACL you can still move around pretty good.
- 12:30And that's, I, I had a feeling that it was the ACL cause like
- 12:34the way that the knee went and the way the leg went and the,
- 12:40you can kind of feel, you know, when there's something in there
- 12:44that goes and yeah, I, I had a feeling the sick and he started
- 12:48moving around. I was like, I don't think we're
- 12:50in the clear yet. I think it is, I think it is the
- 12:53ACL. Sure enough, not happy about it,
- 12:57not happy about it at all. I, I do feel bad, man.
- 13:01I think it sucks. Yeah, it's it's a well, unique's
- 13:07not the right word, but it's I'm just trying to find silver
- 13:11lining for brace fans. It's at least comforting is not
- 13:20the right word either. I'm just I'm trying to find the
- 13:22positive here. I like I know what I'm trying to
- 13:23say at at at least the way the 2024 season was going for Kunia,
- 13:30at least you're not sitting there wondering like what if,
- 13:34because if he started off like if he's leading the league at
- 13:36home runs, if he's racking up stolen bases the way he did in
- 13:392023, you're going are we looking at a a back-to-back MVP
- 13:46run here? But he started off.
- 13:49So not to say that the the season was lost for him by any
- 13:52stretch. I'm not I'm I'm not writing him
- 13:54off that way, but at least you can you can look at it going,
- 14:01OK, We're not like, yeah, you're losing one of the best players
- 14:05in the game, but at least we're not losing him where he was at
- 14:09the peak of his game at this stage in the season.
- 14:12And again, I know it's early, but they've they've done just
- 14:16fine without Akuni before. Let's not forget the last World
- 14:20Series run for the Braves. So.
- 14:24Here's the silver lining. There's a good chance to win
- 14:27Comeback Player of the Year next year that doesn't that doesn't
- 14:33do anything. I don't know if I don't know if
- 14:35they, I don't know if they care about that.
- 14:37Yeah, I don't think about that. Probably not.
- 14:40It's a big blow. It's definitely a big blow.
- 14:43I think the unfortunate side of it was like, I think everyone in
- 14:48baseball outside of Braves fans were like, was like, you know,
- 14:51when, when, when is he going to turn it on?
- 14:53Like, you know, it's coming. You know, he hasn't clicked
- 14:56quite yet this year. Like, when is he going to turn
- 14:59it on? We're going to see typical Kunia
- 15:01numbers and then this, this happens.
- 15:04And it's tough because it's like the Strider news.
- 15:16And then this. It's like, I don't, I don't
- 15:19know, man. Like I don't know if the Braves
- 15:23are able to overcome. They're still a great team,
- 15:27don't get me wrong, and there's still plenty of teams that would
- 15:30kill to have this roster minus those two guys, but those are
- 15:36like legitimate look at odds every year.
- 15:40Cy Young and MVP favourites. Not even candidates like they
- 15:47are considered somewhat favourites.
- 15:51Top three. Top three.
- 15:53You don't replace that. You know there isn't, there
- 15:56isn't another right fielder you can go get to to replace this.
- 16:00Yes, for Cunha for sure. But regarding Strider, obviously
- 16:08a big blow there. But for me at least that I I
- 16:10feel like it happened so early in the season where it's like he
- 16:14may have just gotten surgery in the offseason for all for all we
- 16:17care or for all that matter, like because you had so little
- 16:20of them where you're like, oh, well, we're not going to have
- 16:22Strider this year. He may have tripped, he could
- 16:27have tripped on a curb and stubbed his toe and been out for
- 16:292024 back in like December And it it would essentially been the
- 16:33same thing. You you would certainly love to
- 16:35have a Spencer Schreider in your rotation.
- 16:38But for me, again, it goes back to the the sample size, like
- 16:41Acuna, you feel it a little bit more, albeit he wasn't having a
- 16:45great year, like I said it, or at least for his standards,
- 16:47wasn't have the hot wasn't having the hottest start to his
- 16:49year. But with Spencer Schreider, it's
- 16:51like, all right, Spencer Schreider, top three favorite
- 16:54for the Cy Young. This is going to be a a big year
- 16:57for him. The sample size you got out of
- 16:58him this year, so small where it's by by the middle of the
- 17:02season by all by the All Star break, you're going to go, Oh
- 17:05yeah, that's right. Spencer Schreider pitched for
- 17:07the Braves this season. But it by that point, you will
- 17:10have already had to have figured out a, a workaround because it,
- 17:16it will have been months at that point that you, that you've been
- 17:19out with him. So yeah, man, Braves fans having
- 17:23a tough go of it. I, I, I gotta say.
- 17:26But like I said, they, they've done it before.
- 17:32They've they've made, they've made doom before without a guy
- 17:36like Acuna. Although combined, like you said
- 17:40with Strider, I don't know, that's tough.
- 17:42It was 2021, the World Series. Yeah.
- 17:46The first time he did it right. Yeah.
- 17:48Yeah, that was their World Series run.
- 17:50We played 82 games. There's only 49 games into the
- 17:55season. The scary thing is, the scary
- 18:01thing is that this is like this is a part of his game.
- 18:06You know what I mean? Like it's, it's a part of his
- 18:08style of play. And that's a big reason why he
- 18:12is who he is and why he's capable of doing what he does is
- 18:15because like the speed and agility factor to the way he
- 18:20plays the outfield, to the way he runs bases, to the way he
- 18:23swipes bags, to the way he turns, you know, a single into a
- 18:28double or, or is able to get to 1st the third.
- 18:30Like the the unfortunate and scary thing is, is that like,
- 18:35what if we start to lose that aspect of his game?
- 18:40And you could have had to assume it's going to come like there's
- 18:43going to be a a drop off. Well, it not just a drop off, I
- 18:48think there's going to be a a, a decision made, a conversation
- 18:52had where it's like we're going to dial, we're going to have to
- 18:55dial this back. And you could apply that line.
- 18:58Didn't mean to cut you off. But what I was going to say was
- 19:00you could apply that line of thinking to a lot of these guys
- 19:03that I mean, the, the conversation I think has already
- 19:05been had with a guy like Mike Trout that that probably
- 19:08happened seasons ago at this point.
- 19:11But I wonder if that conversation is going to be had
- 19:14with a guy like Ronald Cunha junior now.
- 19:15And you're going to see some of these other young stars where
- 19:18now they're OK. Like at this stage in their
- 19:20career, it's early, they're OK. But once they get up to once
- 19:24they acquire the, the tenure that a guy like Acuna has, the
- 19:31conversations are going to be getting a little more difficult
- 19:33where it's like we have we have examples around the league of
- 19:36MVP winning, MVP caliber guys who similar to you like, and
- 19:42this is just you can fill in the blank with whoever is being
- 19:46talked to like a, a Bobby Witt, for example, Bobby Witt's going
- 19:50to get to an age where they're going to talk about be like,
- 19:52Hey, Ronnie Trout, similar, similar styles of play, like
- 19:59the, the full package there. We love you Bobby, but you might
- 20:04not be any different than those guys in that regard.
- 20:06So in order to avoid that, maybe now that you're.
- 20:11Fill in the blank age. We're going to start dialing it
- 20:13back a little bit because we can't.
- 20:15We can't be losing you for for seasons at a time because you're
- 20:18too valuable of this team for us to lose the full package.
- 20:22Instead, we're just going to we're going to dial back one
- 20:25facet of that package back. Well, that and I mean like think
- 20:29of the ripple effect of moving forward.
- 20:32So moving forward like there is going to be that natural get him
- 20:38into ADH role more often. What does that do with Azuna?
- 20:46Like how how does the roster look moving forward in the
- 20:50construction there? You almost have to guarantee you
- 20:56got to carry 5 outfielders on your bench when he's back next
- 21:00year. What does this do to his
- 21:03paycheck when he does hit free agency again in a few years?
- 21:09Like there's like this big ripple effect to a lot of of
- 21:13this and it's, it sucks. And someone I saw a tweet that
- 21:17was like you and I aren't like huge basketball fans, but
- 21:21everyone like understands the reference of like, what if
- 21:24Acunia becomes like the D Rose, the Derrick Rose of of baseball?
- 21:31And it's a valid it's like it's a valid argument.
- 21:34It's a valid conversation of like we had greatness and
- 21:41Griffey for a while before the issues started coming.
- 21:45Same with Trout, almost like we've had greatness for a long
- 21:48enough stretch. The stretch hasn't been long
- 21:50enough for Acuna. Like it?
- 21:52It just hasn't been long enough. And that, that D rose comp isn't
- 21:56something you think about after one ACL, but after the second
- 21:59one happens, you're going whoa, like all of a sudden that's a
- 22:02very, very real possibility. And you would just hate to see
- 22:07that. But you mentioned the contract
- 22:09and that's that's another thing that I, I haven't seen enough
- 22:13conversation about is that, look, I think we can all look at
- 22:17the contract that he's on right now and go Braves kind of got
- 22:24away with one there, right? But let's let's let's wait it
- 22:29out. He's going to get his bag soon
- 22:31enough. If stuff like this keeps
- 22:33happening, man his he's not going to have a strong he's not
- 22:36going to have a strong enough case to to command the kind of
- 22:40money he's looking for. Because all it's going to take,
- 22:42all it's all it's going to take is for these teams that are
- 22:45interested, whether it's the Braves or, or elsewhere around
- 22:48the league to appoint his medical history and go, why
- 22:52would we give you that money? We're not like we've seen enough
- 22:55of these contracts just completely fail, right?
- 23:00So why would we, why would we commit any sort of money to you
- 23:06if you're not even going to be able to give us the full package
- 23:09that that was once promised? And I agree and I fully, fully
- 23:14agree. And it sucks 'cause it's like
- 23:18there's just certain names that you're so like, doesn't matter,
- 23:22you're fandom doesn't matter. You know?
- 23:25Like overall, if you, if you appreciate baseball more than
- 23:30you're fandom of your specific team, which I would argue most
- 23:35baseball fans are like that. You love baseball first.
- 23:38We fall in love with the game first.
- 23:40It sucks to be able to not see him continue on this.
- 23:45As far as contract goes, I just wanted a little refresher.
- 23:48He's owed 17A year. He is currently 26.
- 23:56There is a club option in 2027 age 29 year, another club option
- 24:07in 2028 age 30 year and then he's set to be an unrestricted
- 24:11free agent in 2029 at 31 years old, which is still a lot of
- 24:16baseball left at 31 years old. Let's remember that.
- 24:22It's weird because it's, I guess that's a silver lining.
- 24:27Like you got to assume the Braves are going to pick that
- 24:31up. You know what I mean?
- 24:33At 17, that's, that's a, that's still a budget deal.
- 24:37That's still a great deal. They're probably going to pick
- 24:39up both of those. I mean, I would, I would, I
- 24:45would pick up both. No matter what, yeah.
- 24:49He's been with the club. You know what he's cable
- 24:52providing you and it's at a it's at a budgetary deal or like a
- 24:59level like why not? It The, the concern for me would
- 25:05would come from elsewhere around the league because at least with
- 25:07Acuna, if if you're the Braves, you're in, he's in house, you
- 25:12know, the, you know, the medical records, you know the history,
- 25:15you know, like what's what's at stake there, how it's trending,
- 25:19But elsewhere around the league, that's, that would be a much
- 25:21bigger risk, especially during the remaining life of this
- 25:25contract. If so, God forbid, if something
- 25:27else happened that only further drops down his his case for
- 25:32demand for commanding the contract.
- 25:35I would imagine he won. So it's it's that's a tough,
- 25:39that's a tough spot to be in for Acuna and for the Braves, but
- 25:46that's the. Left ACL, right left knee.
- 25:50Yes, 'cause I think the first one was the right one, so it was
- 25:54the, IT was the other, yeah, this most recent one was the
- 25:57left, yeah. It's scary dude, 'cause that's
- 26:03like plant side, that's your firm side as a hitter.
- 26:08That's a side where your hips still have to open up without
- 26:12the knee moving. Man it did.
- 26:16Could you tell if he was wearing spikes?
- 26:18I didn't watch closely enough. I don't know, I wonder.
- 26:22It made me curious if like maybe he moved to molds after the
- 26:26first one. Yeah, I think that's something
- 26:28I've seen more of. A lot of guys wear molds now for
- 26:32sure. Let.
- 26:34Me see what I can. Find because it it it definitely
- 26:36had the appearance that like a spike got caught during that
- 26:40that secondary slash delayed steal attempt slash get back to
- 26:47the bag attempt. Super unfortunate dude.
- 26:51Super super scary to have happen as well.
- 26:58Done it before, it's not fun. Yeah, I let me see here.
- 27:04No, it's look like. It's hard to tell.
- 27:08It is hard to tell. Yeah, I don't.
- 27:12Know I want to say spikes, but that's yeah, I think those are
- 27:16spikes. I I think those are spikes.
- 27:19Yeah, it's just going to get weird moving forward, man.
- 27:21Like the again, like the ripple effect of like how often is he
- 27:24going to need to DH? This isn't the same argument as
- 27:28Griffey or Trout. Like being a full time center
- 27:30fielder. He is a full time right fielder,
- 27:33but you could argue that speed is more of a factor of his game
- 27:36than either of those guys. And what does that do with their
- 27:41roster configuration? Like how, how do you how do you
- 27:45commit to an MVP guy knowing that whatever other guy you have
- 27:51floating with the DH spot is going to have to either miss
- 27:54time or figure out a a way to get him into the field.
- 27:57And I don't think as soon as that guy like we, they, we've
- 28:00seen that as soon as a mess then left field like it's not the
- 28:04move. An absolute liability.
- 28:06So you got it like now you're constricting yourself of like,
- 28:09who'd you sign that is OK playing the field half the week,
- 28:13OK being DH half the week, assuming that Acunia is going to
- 28:17be, you know, needing that moving forward.
- 28:21It's it's very strange. And roster configuration, I
- 28:24think is going to start to change because we've heard
- 28:26rumors of like MLB wanting to limit the amount of of
- 28:33relievers, putting more emphasis on starters.
- 28:37So does that mean that like another bench spot opens up
- 28:41offensively? There's a lot of, there's a lot
- 28:44of things going on here, but I don't know.
- 28:47We'll see. Me too.
- 28:54Michael said he's only watching to see my fit.
- 28:56I mean, I I agree. This is so good.
- 29:04I'm all about it. The the feedback on the fit.
- 29:07I I appreciate all of you. I love all of you.
- 29:10I like the salt and pepper picking up picking up by the
- 29:13way. Hey, you like that?
- 29:14Yeah, man, I'm 30 and I feel like I'm 70, but you know.
- 29:18That's fair. At least you don't have to.
- 29:21We ride on. Yeah.
- 29:24Let's talk any other thoughts on the kunya before we move on.
- 29:32There I I would expect an Eddie Rosario or something like that
- 29:36to be added at the deadline. Someone to come in, you got to
- 29:39like, if you're going to miss all of an MVP, they're going to
- 29:43have to have two guys that can have the production of him.
- 29:46So someone that's familiar with that spot who doesn't fold under
- 29:49pressure. Eddie Rosario makes sense.
- 29:52Fans love them. I could see that being a thing
- 29:58and I think he, I don't know, I haven't looked at numbers, but
- 30:00gut feel like feel like he's doing OK with Washington.
- 30:04He was there for a a stretch. He was atrocious, but I he.
- 30:07Yeah. But that's he did like.
- 30:09Over the weekend, but. I think that's what he does.
- 30:11That's just that's what he is. Yeah.
- 30:14But the Braves are OK with that. I think the organization, the
- 30:16fans, like they're used to that. So I I could see something
- 30:20there. A lot of pressure on Kalanick to
- 30:21like really become what he's supposed to be.
- 30:25The rest of the line up just has to like Austin Riley needs
- 30:28what's going on there. Austin Riley needs to show up.
- 30:31Matt Olson, keep doing Matt Olson things.
- 30:33You know that he does. It's just everything needs to be
- 30:36picked up, especially offensively.
- 30:39But they'll figure it out. A A A is a genius and I still
- 30:44expect them to go deep into a postseason.
- 30:50They'll be all right. They'll be all right.
- 30:53Let's talk red sweeping. The Dodgers sort of a a dual
- 30:57pronged topic here. You got the Reds, who for all
- 31:02intents and purposes had a a pretty, I mean, that's a
- 31:07statement series if I've ever seen one.
- 31:09But then on the flip side, you get the Dodgers who get this are
- 31:16in the midst of their longest losing streak.
- 31:18Well. Since they dropped six in a row
- 31:23from April 8th to the 13th, 2019.
- 31:26So this is their longest losing streak in five years.
- 31:33Whoa. And they've only lost five in a
- 31:35row that that speaks to the state of the Dodgers for the
- 31:40last, let's just call it, decade.
- 31:43Better part of a decade. Seriously.
- 31:46But. Even even then, even knowing
- 31:49that the Dodgers are in a little bit of a skid, much to the the
- 31:56rejoicing of, I would imagine fans of teams elsewhere around
- 32:00the league, including Braves fans, Dodgers were outscored 29
- 32:08or have been outscored 29 to 11 during this skid, which that's,
- 32:15I understand that, that you can be streaky as a team.
- 32:20You're going to have your UPS, you're going to have your downs,
- 32:22you're going to have your eyes, you're going to have your lows.
- 32:24But this is the 2024 Dodgers we're talking about, and you're
- 32:28only scoring. You're only putting up 11 over
- 32:31the course of five games. That's pretty bad.
- 32:38Yeah, that's pretty bad. It's hard to imagine like when
- 32:45you know, when you like run through your mind of what that
- 32:48line up is. It's hard to imagine.
- 32:50It's pretty absurd. As far as giving up though, I
- 32:53don't know. I didn't really watch.
- 32:55I haven't watched this stretch of of Dodger games, but I I
- 33:01think the bullpen still the biggest issue there.
- 33:03Yeah, I think that's the biggest hole.
- 33:07And I don't, I'm curious to see like how many runs starters
- 33:10versus bullpen during the stretch.
- 33:13What's funny though, I said this two weeks ago and I was just a
- 33:17couple series premature, but the Reds face the Dodgers in LA for
- 33:24a four-game set two weeks ago and we did our our weekend
- 33:28series to watch and I chose that one and I said this is your
- 33:33momentum shifter. Since you pull this off, you can
- 33:37flip the script of what this first quarter of the season has
- 33:40been like. So I didn't realize that I was
- 33:44just, you know, a couple weeks early on that prediction.
- 33:47And as far as the NL Central goes, like it's always going to
- 33:50be up for grabs. They're in last place.
- 33:53They're six games under 500 at the moment and they're 7 1/2
- 33:57games back. If if this whole division can
- 34:03stay single digit games back, who knows?
- 34:07Who knows any of it's possible and that's what the Reds need to
- 34:11do is play good enough ball to become somewhat of like a buyer
- 34:15position come deadline. If they're within five games
- 34:21back at the at the division or excuse me, at the deadline, five
- 34:27games back at the division. I I could see them adding and
- 34:31being in the hunt and that's all you need in the central.
- 34:38You mentioned it being a possible turning point, David
- 34:41Bell, manager of the Reds, was quoted after after the sweep
- 34:45saying. Hopefully this is the shift we
- 34:47needed. So it's it's what?
- 34:52It takes man like that's a big and then now there's this
- 34:56stretch of going against the division.
- 34:58They won game one today of the three-game set against the
- 35:01Cardinals. Then they follow up the end of
- 35:05May and beginning of June with the Cubs.
- 35:10And then you see Cubs again a, a, a series right after the
- 35:15Rockies won. I mean, like, it's within it's
- 35:20within striking distance. And there's a lot of people,
- 35:24including myself, that expected the Reds to, like, handle this
- 35:29division, not not run away, but like.
- 35:32Be the hold their own. Yeah, be the stronger team in
- 35:35there. So I think they've
- 35:36underperformed at this point. But games long baby.
- 35:40It's it's a, it's a marathon. So.
- 35:44While I was confirming that quote, I know you mentioned
- 35:47their standing in the division. So I may have I, I may be
- 35:49repeating a little bit of what you said, but I did have a note
- 35:51here that said the Reds on April 24th, which was the highest mark
- 35:58of their season at four games over 500.
- 36:00They're 14 and 10 at that point. Following that, they went nine
- 36:04and 20 in their next 29 games against teams that included
- 36:09Phillies, Rangers, Padres, OSD backs, Giants and Dodgers.
- 36:13So pretty grueling stretch there.
- 36:16But at, given that, as you mentioned, they're only seven
- 36:21games or they're seven games under 500 at 23 and 30 and
- 36:27they're at the bottom of the central.
- 36:28But I, I, I think there's something there that, you know,
- 36:36we, that could lead us to having a different conversation, maybe
- 36:40sooner rather than later about that division specifically
- 36:43looking at the Reds, because I, I, I, I think they have enough
- 36:48to, again, to use the phrase I just, I just shared to hold
- 36:52their own Like I it in a division that is flimsy, fluky,
- 37:01lacking dominance at times. More times than not, if you're
- 37:05the Reds, you got to, you got to use this as a, as a catapult
- 37:10into, into hopefully some sort of run.
- 37:15I mean, you don't have to run the table over the next 1520
- 37:19games, but you know, if you can, if you can go seven and three,
- 37:25you know, 17 and three, if you could put put together A-17 and
- 37:33three stretch over your next 20, then we're talking about
- 37:35something completely different. But you don't even have to do
- 37:37you don't have to play that good a ball, But you know, let's you
- 37:41you've you've put the the gauntlet as it were, hopefully
- 37:45behind you, you it wasn't pretty, but hopefully you can
- 37:49you can breathe a little bit now and use this use this sweep as a
- 37:55as a jumping forward point. Yeah, and I was, I was gonna say
- 38:03why am I looking? Where am I looking for it?
- 38:06The hunter green start, trying to go back to what day that was.
- 38:15The hunter green start really impressed me because of the fact
- 38:18that like you could tell he got in a jam early.
- 38:22I watched the first couple innings and I think the Dodgers
- 38:26had bases loaded, one out, and he wiggled out of it and you
- 38:33could tell that like his command wasn't really there.
- 38:36It didn't look like it was all there.
- 38:39I think it was Saturday, Sunday anyway.
- 38:43I don't think it matters that much.
- 38:44But either way, you could tell that like his ace stuff wasn't
- 38:48there and he still managed to get through it.
- 38:52And I think it was like this. And to be fair, like, I don't
- 38:56know how much credit we can give the Reds versus the like the
- 39:00little bit of a, you know, slump that the Dodgers offense is in.
- 39:05But you could tell that it was like this.
- 39:08Good ball clubs figure out how to win when when not all things
- 39:13are going right. Like I'm not impressed with a
- 39:17ball club on a, on a 12/2 victory where, you know, bats
- 39:21just lit it up and and shut down starting off starting pitching
- 39:26and then bullpen comes in and close it down.
- 39:28Like that's a great day. But overall, how many times do
- 39:32you get that in the length of a season?
- 39:34It's super rare. So for you to be like, all
- 39:37right, it's ace day, should be win day and you're immediately
- 39:43in a jam. I don't remember if it was the
- 39:44first or second inning, but he was bases loaded and like
- 39:47struggling and he, I think he had two walks to make that
- 39:51happen. And you just watched him figure
- 39:54it out and, and get out of this jam.
- 39:56And like, I know it's such a small moment, but for a ball
- 40:00club that's struggling, for a guy that you're looking at to be
- 40:03your number one, to slowly see him mature into this role, like
- 40:09that's something that like can really get momentum going.
- 40:13That's something that you can feel A-Team like work around and
- 40:17and figured out. And it's just cool to see when
- 40:19like you're not on your a stuff and you still get out of it,
- 40:23pull out a dub against a really good team against a really good
- 40:27line up. So Dave Bill's right man.
- 40:32This is like, hey, let's hope get it going.
- 40:35And since he. Speaking of getting it going,
- 40:40the Guardians, well, despite losing today and snapping their
- 40:43streak prior to today, had won nine in a row, three straight
- 40:47series sweeps, which by the way, was their long the the
- 40:53franchise's longest streak since back in 2017.
- 40:58If you recall If you recall that stretch, they won 22 in a row.
- 41:02I remember that. That was big.
- 41:05Their 36 wins through 53 games tied for the most in franchise
- 41:10history, which get. This was also done in 19/20/1954
- 41:21and 1995, three seasons in which they made the World Series.
- 41:31So do with that what you will. Love me some ESPN Nuggets baby.
- 41:36That's so good. But the I think the thing that
- 41:40has impressed me is, is over this streak.
- 41:43I mean, it's not, it's not worth writing home about necessarily.
- 41:48But for the Guardians, I feel like it's it's a good take away
- 41:52from that nine game streak. They had thirteen home runs over
- 41:56that win streak. So you're manufacturing runs as
- 42:00you usually do, but you're also put a little charge in the ball
- 42:03from time to time. They outscored during that nine
- 42:07game stretch. They outscored their opponents
- 42:0854 to 29. So not only were you
- 42:10manufacturing runs, you're holding the opposition at Bay on
- 42:15the mounds. And in addition to that, you're
- 42:18winning close ball games. Of those nine games, four of
- 42:22them were one run games. And obviously if you go, if
- 42:26you're 9 and no one those nine games, that means you want all
- 42:28of them. So you're taking advantage of
- 42:30those opportunities to close out, close games.
- 42:33Those are the games, as we know, that often times rear their head
- 42:39in September and October when you're fighting to to either
- 42:43maintain a lead heading into October or you're trying to claw
- 42:50back into the conversation heading into October.
- 42:53And if you can, those one run games, especially they may seem
- 42:57insignificant here in May, but if if, if like you were talking
- 43:02about Nate, if you can find ways to win games, then you're going
- 43:09to set yourself up in a much better position.
- 43:11And I think with the way the Guardians are playing, they're
- 43:14already playing fantastic. Even if they would have dropped
- 43:16those one run games at the Guardians.
- 43:18I'm not, I'm not worried about them that they're fine, but they
- 43:21found a way to win those games. And I think that's going to
- 43:25that's going to pay dividends come later in the year.
- 43:30Not to mention on the season, not only they win in one run
- 43:36games, they're playing great on the road.
- 43:39They're 18 and 11 on the road. Their staff has a collectively
- 43:45has an ERA of 331 well entering entering Monday, which is third
- 43:50in the in the AL. So they're in they're in good
- 43:55shape right now. They are in very, very good
- 43:57shape. No, Bieber.
- 44:01And there's still this. They do this every year, I'm
- 44:06telling you. Like they there's, there's just
- 44:08talent that figures it out. Definitely helps having the
- 44:16dominance of Class A on the back end and Scott Barlow this
- 44:22offseason as well. Like bullpen is good, gives
- 44:26gives it gives the staff comfort.
- 44:30Knowing that that's back there gives the staff comfort when
- 44:34your lineup is never really out of it.
- 44:37Like they just scrap. I think I said this before, I
- 44:42think D backs last year that postseason run like it's just
- 44:50this scrappiness sound baseball offensively, hit behind runners,
- 44:57take extra 90 fight pitch counts, all that good stuff
- 45:02dude. It's like, I know it's not sexy
- 45:04baseball for all of the way we define enjoyable highlight reel
- 45:12Sunday night type baseball that we all, you know, love right
- 45:17now. But this is real baseball and
- 45:22it's like, oh, that's complete. It's good to watch.
- 45:27It's really fun to watch. Yeah, but I mean, how scrappy is
- 45:32it if you've got your star player out here saying that he
- 45:35is better than Barry Bonds? Like, are we going to talk about
- 45:39this? I saw it look.
- 45:42I I, I say that, you know, knowing that I'm, I'm like 99%
- 45:48sure that was tongue in cheek, you know, just little, little
- 45:51bit of J Ram in jest, if you will.
- 45:56It was in response if you have, if you don't know what I'm
- 45:58talking about. He it was when he was pitched
- 46:01around with the bases loaded in Sunday's game.
- 46:07Yeah, Sunday's game. And then I think somebody
- 46:12mentioned or just like in pass and was like, oh, I got the
- 46:14Barry Bonds treatment and he responds back and says I'm
- 46:17better than Barry Bonds. I couldn't tell you how to take
- 46:21that. All I know is this quote has
- 46:22already been blown way out of proportion.
- 46:26Assuming that he doesn't legitimately believe this and
- 46:29that he probably, I think it was actually over text that he he
- 46:35sent those remarks, assuming he sent those with a a grin on his
- 46:39face. When I saw that, when I saw that
- 46:42notification drop, I'm like, oh baby, the the content creators
- 46:46are going to run with this one. The baseball mainstream media is
- 46:49going to run with this one. Well, yeah, I mean, that's you
- 46:55want to talk about scrappy. That's what that's what your
- 46:57star is is claiming. So I don't know how scrappy you
- 47:00can call him if if you've got Barry Bonds two point O on the
- 47:03team. I think I could be wrong, but I
- 47:05mean he is tied for league lead in home runs right there.
- 47:10I think I saw 17. So he's Tucker got. 18.
- 47:15I don't know if Tucker is Tucker did.
- 47:17Did he get to 18? I think no, I think you're
- 47:22right. I think last I saw he was at 17
- 47:24so. He 17, right?
- 47:25Yeah, I think he is right there. I.
- 47:29Don't know man, it's such a bold thing to say.
- 47:32Look, you and. I, oh Tucker did get to 18.
- 47:34Sorry. Yeah.
- 47:36Oh no, Jay. Room's got 15.
- 47:37Azuna's got 15. Judge has got 17.
- 47:40Henderson's got 17. Now he he's tied for fourth
- 47:44though, so I mean he he's right there in the mix.
- 47:47Doesn't take away from your point.
- 47:49Yeah, either way, he's in the mix.
- 47:50Yeah, do what you got to do, dawg.
- 47:55Put that chip on your shoulder. I mean this is a guy that had a
- 47:58chain with his face on it in the medallion.
- 48:04Yeah, you know, maybe we've been looking at J Ram all wrong, man.
- 48:07Maybe it's just been right there staring at us in our face this
- 48:10whole time and we're just, oh, look at a cute little, little
- 48:13little guy over there in Cleveland.
- 48:16I think everybody. Loves Jay Ram.
- 48:18That's like the typical assumption, like, oh, you're in
- 48:20Cleveland. Like, you're just, you're a
- 48:22sweet, humble guy. Maybe not.
- 48:25Hey, that guy's feisty. Speaking of which, did you see
- 48:28Bonds got into the Pirates Hall of Fame?
- 48:31I did. Interesting there.
- 48:34Look, you and I don't hide it. I don't we're not on board with
- 48:39with bonds, steroids, cheating stuff.
- 48:41But well. Let's clap it up.
- 48:42Let's clap it up for bonds. Let's clap it up for bonds.
- 48:46OK, it's good chirps, good chirps there.
- 48:55So anyway, J Ram. Yep, better than Barry Bonds.
- 49:00Maybe he really does think he's better than Barry Bonds.
- 49:02Like I said, maybe, maybe we've been, we've been misreading this
- 49:06guy this whole time. What did I I had a, what did I
- 49:09say last week? I had a name that I was like,
- 49:12maybe they go get this guy. Was it a bat?
- 49:23It was a bat. I don't remember who I said but
- 49:27it was like Dang that seems. Oh, it's not when we're talking.
- 49:32Was it Vladdy? We were talking about Vladdy,
- 49:33and Bo wasn't one of those. Guys, Bo, it was Bo.
- 49:38Was it Bo? Yeah, it was Bo.
- 49:40I could see that, dude. I don't think they do.
- 49:43It oh, it was Bo. You're right.
- 49:44It was Bo. I now remember that
- 49:46conversation. Yeah, you're right.
- 49:48Yeah, 'cause it's like the because every hitter seems like
- 49:50they use every part of the park in Cleveland.
- 49:53I think the delightful surprise if you're a Guardians fan is
- 49:57Josh Naylor. I mean, he's at thirteen home
- 50:00runs and like established threat in that line up.
- 50:05They still need more stuff, though.
- 50:07They still need to add. Still impressive.
- 50:15You know, it's not impressive, The New York Mets, the New York
- 50:25Mets, 10 and 20 in their last thirty.
- 50:29I'm so glad that their game got rained out today because I
- 50:34didn't want any sort of good juju bleeding into this segment.
- 50:42They are 10 and 20, as I said, 10 and 20 in the last 30.
- 50:46They're three and seven in their last 10.
- 50:50I want to pose the question to Mets fans, though, 'cause I'm,
- 50:52I'm at this, at this point of the season, I'm genuinely
- 50:56curious. And it's still early, I know.
- 50:58But are our Mets fans are you, are you so fed up with your club
- 51:05that you're happier when games get rained out more than having
- 51:12to actually watch them? Like, do you get more joy from
- 51:20the notification that the Mets game has been rained out, then
- 51:26the notification that says Mets game starting now tune in?
- 51:31Which one brings you more joy? At this point?
- 51:33I think I know the answer, but I don't want to speak on behalf
- 51:37because, you know, it's a sick twisted fan base over there.
- 51:42I I don't know what's. I don't know what you all do to
- 51:46help yourself sleep at night having to watch this clown show,
- 51:50but man. I so I was working Saturday from
- 51:55home and I just threw like I, I just threw games on on mute.
- 52:00And this was I think one of the only day games that was going
- 52:05did I put on and it was, I wanted to pull it back up.
- 52:08It was the Giants series. Beatty had hit a home run in the
- 52:17bottom of the 7th to break up A11 tie.
- 52:20It's just a single shot. So they went up to one and then
- 52:24in the 9th the giants figured out how to how to tie it up.
- 52:30And I remember watching I was on, it was on mute.
- 52:32I didn't turn anything on. I wasn't listening.
- 52:34And I look over and I watched like Mets fans in the ninth
- 52:41after the game got tied up, I saw like this group of family,
- 52:44they're like, Yep, let's go. And it was like they were like 3
- 52:47rows back, like right behind the dugout.
- 52:49They were like, Yep, let's roll. And I was like, Dang, dude, like
- 52:53no faith. Like no faith.
- 52:57They lost the game seven to two so.
- 53:05Oh man. At one point I was like, really
- 53:09like you, stuck around like you, maybe you'll catch a walk off.
- 53:12No, I think they knew they. Knew they knew.
- 53:18Golly, man. At what point do you just start
- 53:20to feel? I mean, I don't just still are
- 53:22on the record. I don't feel bad for Mets fans.
- 53:24But at what point does the average person start to feel bad
- 53:27for Mets fans? Because like, like we always
- 53:30say, you need you need a punching bag in baseball.
- 53:35And the Mets have been the punching bag for oh so long.
- 53:39But how much longer do they do they need to endure this?
- 53:43Because I know it's it's it's not about the players.
- 53:46Like I couldn't care less. The Mets could lose out and I
- 53:50would be. I would be just fine it.
- 53:52Would be incredible. Because the the the team itself,
- 53:55I can't stand the players. I'm out on the fans though.
- 53:59I'm like, I that's tough, man. Baseball fan to baseball fan
- 54:05like you, you got to you. You'll look a Mets fans in the
- 54:08eyes and you're like, you've seen some stuff.
- 54:12Yeah. You've you've, you've gone
- 54:15through war and it's May. That's, that's where we're at.
- 54:21And I, I tell you what, man, it's, it's fun to watch.
- 54:26I'll say that. I was looking, I saw this, the
- 54:30Steve, the Steve Cohen tweets. Dude, did you see what they were
- 54:36saying on air? Well, I was talking to Gary
- 54:40Cohen. Sorry, but go ahead.
- 54:42What did What did? Steve Cohen.
- 54:43Say so. This just tells you the shape
- 54:45they're in three days ago. He goes.
- 54:47Looking forward to our 10 game home stand starting tonight.
- 54:51LGM, we are experimenting with our new artist series giveaway
- 54:56tomorrow. Enjoy the Joel Messler created
- 54:59tote bag. Feedback appreciated.
- 55:04Meanwhile we have my guy in Baltimore out in the splash zone
- 55:10and Steve's out here talking about a tote bag.
- 55:13Then then two days ago he tweets.
- 55:15What a stretch. Mind bogggling.
- 55:17I know how disheartening this is for our fans.
- 55:20Thank you for caring so much. Yeah, that's a great point.
- 55:25Let's just go ahead the little segue here or little tangent.
- 55:31Sorry, Stevie, you had a good run as like what we thought was
- 55:35best best owner in baseball that that title could not be more
- 55:39out. That belongs to David
- 55:42Rubenstein, my friend out in Baltimore.
- 55:44I don't know if you watched the game today, you probably didn't.
- 55:46It was Sox OS was. He throwing the hats.
- 55:48You throwing the hats to fans in the splash zone, just like a
- 55:51garbage bag full of hats. You get It was like the Oprah
- 55:54GIF. You get a hat, you get a hat,
- 55:56you get a hat. And it was, I, I don't know, I,
- 55:58I'm guessing it was like after every extra base hit and boy,
- 56:02did they hit a lot of them. There was one inning where I'm
- 56:05pretty sure there was like six or seven straight extra base
- 56:08hit. So my man probably had to go
- 56:10back for refills on the free on the free hats.
- 56:13So, you know, shout out to shout out to David.
- 56:18Shout out to David. Crazy what winning can do, but.
- 56:21You're you're done. That title has been removed,
- 56:25stripped. It's been stripped for some time
- 56:27now, but. Unbelievable.
- 56:30But yeah, no, the broadcast though, dude, they were talking
- 56:33about on the broadcast, they said they they were going into
- 56:38full like end of World mode. And again, it's May, but they
- 56:43were saying Keith Hernandez said, boy, oh, boy, it was
- 56:47after. What was the play?
- 56:53Was it, I think it was like a double or something, like an RBI
- 56:57or something from whoever they're playing at the, the this
- 57:00weekend. Was it the Giants?
- 57:01Were they playing the Giants this weekend?
- 57:03Yeah. And Keith Hernandez goes, boy,
- 57:07oh, boy, it feels like the sky is falling.
- 57:09And then Gary Cohen chimes in and says, it's felt like that
- 57:13virtually every day for the last month.
- 57:16And then Ron Darling chimes in and says, there's losing, and
- 57:20then there's what's happening here.
- 57:25And not to mention you, you got all that.
- 57:27And then Gary Cohen signs off. Saturdays get Sundays.
- 57:31Sunday, they got the win. So it wasn't doom and gloom on
- 57:34Sunday. But after that game on Saturday,
- 57:37Gary Cohen signs off saying, remember, this was a real quote.
- 57:41Gary Cohen signed off and said, remember, the sun will come up
- 57:44tomorrow. As difficult as that may be to
- 57:47realize, that's the state of the Mets.
- 57:56They're they're having to remind each other that the sun is going
- 58:01to come up tomorrow and it's May.
- 58:05Damn. I can't imagine what it's like
- 58:10being associated in any regard to that organization that I
- 58:16mean, it. Does it get worse than that?
- 58:22Oh my goodness. Oh, blow it up, blow it up.
- 58:28To be fair, they still got a shot at the division.
- 58:31They're they're only 15 games back, so hold on to that's.
- 58:36Not even June. Hold on to that silver lining,
- 58:39Mets fans. Speaking of, I mean, they got
- 58:42it. They're when it's all said and
- 58:43done, they got to be like 35 games back at the Division.
- 58:47It's going to be, it's going to be large.
- 58:54OK. Phillies if, if you put the
- 58:56Phillies in a generous hundred wins, that basically means that
- 59:04the the Mets are going to lose close to 100 games if they're 35
- 59:10games back. But I don't think that's crazy.
- 59:13I don't think that's a crazy figure.
- 59:17Yeah, I mean, they're going to sell.
- 59:19They're gonna get worse. Oh yeah, you could be looking at
- 59:22anywhere between 30 and 40 games back in the division when it's
- 59:26all said and done. Believable.
- 59:29I mean, at the Phillies, at the Phillies maintain this pace,
- 59:33that discrepancy is going to look ugly.
- 59:38Hey, Speaking of ugly, what are your thoughts on these Blue Jay
- 59:40City connects unis the league? You nailed it.
- 59:43You nailed it. No, that was just a transition.
- 59:47I I wasn't necessarily. I just can't do it anymore.
- 59:52I'm sure people can. We just copy and paste what I
- 59:56said about the last five. Yep, you just plug that in for
- 1:00:03me. What's what's what's funny?
- 1:00:07Let me see. I'm trying to find that.
- 1:00:10What's that? What's that account again?
- 1:00:15Like the the image Oh baseball images that precede proceed
- 1:00:22unfortunate events. They posted a screenshot of the.
- 1:00:27Account, by the way, if you're not following that, that's a
- 1:00:29great. Account baseball images that
- 1:00:31precede unfortunate events. They posted a screenshot an hour
- 1:00:34ago of the the Blue Jays tweet that said bright vibrant
- 1:00:39Toronto. Our city connects are unveiled
- 1:00:41in four days and assuming we get this, assuming this leak is what
- 1:00:47it's position to be because as we've said there, I don't think
- 1:00:52we've had a leak be incorrect at this stage of the game.
- 1:00:56I I think every leak that's come out and I don't know if that's
- 1:00:58intentional at this point. I mean what what are the odds of
- 1:01:01every leak that's come out has ended up being the UNI It it
- 1:01:08goes back to that whole thing where we're talking about the
- 1:01:13city connect. Suppose intending to capture the
- 1:01:17vibrancy and the brightness of these cities.
- 1:01:19And yet we're just churning out yet another black jersey and
- 1:01:25people and people like, Oh my goodness, I got into it in the
- 1:01:28comments with some guy over some post a number of weeks ago at
- 1:01:33this point. But it was it was, I think I may
- 1:01:38have even mentioned on here, but it was the IT was a screenshot
- 1:01:42of the post that had all of the recent Gray jerseys.
- 1:01:47And it was like this. This jersey celebrates the
- 1:01:49diversity of Vibrance and unique culture of the city.
- 1:01:52And then it says the city or the jersey.
- 1:01:54And then it just shows all four of like the grave slash black
- 1:01:58jerseys, showing that that that line is a crock of crap like
- 1:02:04Vibrance. Every city vibrant and colorful.
- 1:02:07Like what's what's? Let's find some new description
- 1:02:09here. Even if they are like don't give
- 1:02:11me, don't give me black and Gray and charcoal.
- 1:02:15And some guy was like, don't you like, you're missing the point.
- 1:02:18Don't you see like the vibrant accents?
- 1:02:20I'm like, yeah, if you squint. I shouldn't have to squint if
- 1:02:24I'm looking at these. So you're missing the whole
- 1:02:26point. It's just that the, the, the
- 1:02:28Nike and Fanatics decided they just they became infatuated with
- 1:02:32churning out these black and Gray jerseys.
- 1:02:34They're like, oh, you're telling us that we can do this for every
- 1:02:37city connect. Well, we're going to just go
- 1:02:40ahead and do that. And that's what they've done.
- 1:02:42And if these Toronto ones are in fact the city connect, add
- 1:02:45another to the list because I'm looking at it right now.
- 1:02:49You can you can Google search it or look it up on Twitter.
- 1:02:53You'll see what I'm talking about.
- 1:02:54If you haven't seen it already. In fact, I think I actually
- 1:02:56posted it so you can check it out on the account.
- 1:02:58It's, I don't know, I mean, it's it's not my least favorite.
- 1:03:05I'll I'll say that I'm just, I'm just tired of everybody
- 1:03:10pretending that this concept is still a good idea.
- 1:03:13This whole city connecting like I'm so I'm just so done with
- 1:03:18this. You connect.
- 1:03:19If you zoomed out and, like, lost focus, it could be a
- 1:03:24Marlins jersey. Yeah, yeah, You know what I
- 1:03:27mean? It absolutely could.
- 1:03:28What's the what's to do with like the bright yellow and
- 1:03:31orange swoosh from Nike? What?
- 1:03:36Yeah, I don't. What is that supposed to be?
- 1:03:38I don't know if that was the camera work, if that was just
- 1:03:41like a weird, I don't know what's going on there.
- 1:03:43I don't know if it's actually yellow or orange or red or
- 1:03:46whatever. I'm sure there's some.
- 1:03:48I don't know if that's supposed to represent the moon or
- 1:03:51something on that skyline that you've got there across the
- 1:03:54chest. I don't know.
- 1:03:55Here's the thing, you have all of Canada to play with.
- 1:04:02There's no other teams. Every other team has to fight
- 1:04:07against like other cities. You have an entire country to
- 1:04:11work with and this is what you come out with.
- 1:04:15You have plenty of reference to go anywhere Canadian, anything
- 1:04:21Canadian, and this is what we get.
- 1:04:27Here's what I will say though. The color black is what
- 1:04:32slimming. What team needs to look more
- 1:04:36slim than the Toronto Blue Jays? That's right.
- 1:04:42That's a valid point. That's a very valid point.
- 1:04:45Yeah, maybe they're slip these. Boys down a little bit.
- 1:04:48We get on Nike and and fanatics a lot of times for not thinking
- 1:04:52these things through there. I let's give them credit.
- 1:04:55There may have been some intentionality there with that,
- 1:04:57with that uniform color choice. So maybe I should I should pull
- 1:05:02back on the criticism of going with black because it sounds
- 1:05:04like maybe they need it. I don't know.
- 1:05:06You said it, not me. So if we catch in the heat,
- 1:05:09that's on you my friend. I That's fine.
- 1:05:11I can't, can't back you on that one.
- 1:05:13They're fat. They're all fat.
- 1:05:16I didn't say that just on record.
- 1:05:21If it was recorded that I said that, I would like that stricken
- 1:05:24from the record. What was I going to say?
- 1:05:31City Connect Black. Some kind of transition here?
- 1:05:37No, it wasn't transition. I had just like a closing
- 1:05:39thought on the uniform. Oh, the first thing I thought of
- 1:05:45when I saw this when I saw this uniform and and it happens for
- 1:05:49some of the other ones as well, but more So what happened with
- 1:05:51this one, which is weird because I just said that it's not like
- 1:05:54my least favorite. I don't I don't hate the jersey
- 1:05:56necessarily. It's all right.
- 1:05:59And it it does match the leaked hat that we saw just the other
- 1:06:04day. So I'm like 99% sure this is it.
- 1:06:08But my first thought when I saw this was was you and I'm sure
- 1:06:14you've seen, although with you it may be different though,
- 1:06:16because I don't know how how Yankees merch works.
- 1:06:19Like I don't know if if like knock off Yankees merch even
- 1:06:22really exists because they try to push the pinstripes and
- 1:06:25everything so hard and that brand.
- 1:06:27But like with other teams, if you're in like a department
- 1:06:31store or if you're in like a not officially licensed store that's
- 1:06:37selling merch for that team or that city or whatever, you see
- 1:06:41some pretty like great value Walmart off brand looking stuff.
- 1:06:48Heck, even Walmart, you see a lot of in Walmart where it's
- 1:06:50not, it's not officially team license where it is, but it you,
- 1:06:53it's a noticeable drop off from the stuff you get in the actual
- 1:06:56team store. This is kind of what I feel like
- 1:06:59I would find in ATJ Maxx in Canada if they have those, don't
- 1:07:05know if they have TJ Maxx in Canada, but I feel like this is
- 1:07:08something I would find on a rack and I'd look at the price tag
- 1:07:10and it would say 1999 compared to 7999 and you go wow, what a.
- 1:07:16Sticker, like the stickers on there.
- 1:07:18Yeah, it's like now 1999, yeah, just like an impulse buy near
- 1:07:25the Tim horton's register. Yeah, you're like.
- 1:07:28It's not, you know, it's not like a the official team merge,
- 1:07:31but like I can at least Rep the team and people will hopefully
- 1:07:35know what team I'm repping. That's kind of the vibe I get
- 1:07:37here. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:07:39This is where, like, when you're a kid and you're like, you know,
- 1:07:42you're putting a Christmas wish list together and grandma's
- 1:07:47like, oh, I'll get the jersey. Exactly.
- 1:07:50She ends up getting this one, you know?
- 1:07:52Exactly. And you open it and you're like,
- 1:07:55oh, thanks, Grandma. Yeah.
- 1:07:59Yeah. And like, if you've never had
- 1:08:00that experience as a baseball fan, you've probably had the
- 1:08:04experience where it's like, Grandma, I've really been
- 1:08:08looking at this like PS5, any chance you can get that for me
- 1:08:13for Christmas? She's like, I've got you and you
- 1:08:15open it up on Christmas and it's like.
- 1:08:18It's a Game Cube. It's.
- 1:08:19It no, it's not even that. It's called like Game Station
- 1:08:22and it's from Kohl's and it was like 2999 or something.
- 1:08:26And she just thinks she hit it out of the park, bless her soul,
- 1:08:28but it's just not. It's not what you were thinking.
- 1:08:31It's not what you're hoping for. That's kind of it's kind of the
- 1:08:34vibe we're getting here. That's, that's that's my
- 1:08:40thoughts. Those are my thoughts.
- 1:08:42I'm done talking about done talking about city connect.
- 1:08:46How about another shout out for the fit?
- 1:08:47How? How about that?
- 1:08:48Yeah, I know a lot of love. A lot of love in the chat chat.
- 1:08:53I appreciate you. I you know.
- 1:08:55I love the chat. The longer this this wager or
- 1:09:00the longer this losing end of the bet goes on.
- 1:09:04Now that this is the first episode and I guess we have like
- 1:09:0713 or so more where I got to wear this.
- 1:09:08The longer this goes on, the more I'm going to like it.
- 1:09:11I think the more the chats going to like it.
- 1:09:14This may even catch on. You know, I may end up wearing
- 1:09:16this for the rest of the year. Who knows?
- 1:09:19I I want you to wear it to work one day.
- 1:09:21That's right. I don't know if I can do that.
- 1:09:23But you know, hey, if the feedback's strong enough, I may,
- 1:09:27I may just wear. It to work.
- 1:09:28You might get a raise, you might get a raise, get a raise.
- 1:09:32May not have to have to buy your own soda anymore.
- 1:09:36How about that last thing here before we get out?
- 1:09:40I actually did have a green light for us today.
- 1:09:42I do too. I do too.
- 1:09:43You go first. All right, my, my green light.
- 1:09:48And if you're not familiar, if that's a new segment to you, if
- 1:09:50you just join us recently, it's something we introduced I think
- 1:09:54earlier this month, maybe last month.
- 1:09:57Sure, just a little little chance for us to address
- 1:10:00something or maybe you share a little rant or just some
- 1:10:03thoughts on something that maybe we didn't get to during the
- 1:10:06episode. Maybe it wasn't relevant or we
- 1:10:08just didn't have time to squeeze it into one of the predetermined
- 1:10:12segments. My my green light for today.
- 1:10:21And I would venture to say I would.
- 1:10:23I would venture to say every baseball fan agrees with me when
- 1:10:25I say this. All thirty Major League Baseball
- 1:10:29teams should be playing on national holidays.
- 1:10:34That's not a far fetched idea. That should be something that
- 1:10:40happens on every national holiday.
- 1:10:43What are we doing? It's a missed opportunity to
- 1:10:47market the game. It you don't spare me the
- 1:10:51scheduling logistics. You don't have that married
- 1:10:53couple that was doing it for like 2530 years anymore.
- 1:10:57You have systems in place to make these things happen.
- 1:11:02Like, you can look, I can look ahead.
- 1:11:05You know what? In fact, I'm going to do it
- 1:11:07right now. And don't, don't tell me that
- 1:11:09it's because, oh, well, Memorial Day stuck up on us this year.
- 1:11:12I'm going to go to, I'm going to go to 20.
- 1:11:17Tell me when to stop, say stop, stop, stop.
- 1:11:22I'm in the year 2242. I'm looking at the month of May.
- 1:11:27I can tell you right now that Labor Day is going to be, Yep,
- 1:11:34on a Monday at the end of the month, Memorial Day.
- 1:11:38That's what I said you. Said Labor.
- 1:11:41Oh, did I say Labor Day? Memorial Day is going to be on
- 1:11:45the 30th that year 2242. Apple calendars hasn't even
- 1:11:52gotten to add in that in yet, but I can just go ahead and save
- 1:11:54you the time right now. Labor Day will be May 30th in
- 1:11:58the year 20 2020 242. So don't tell, like spare me the
- 1:12:04whole, well, it's tough to squeeze it in.
- 1:12:06You know when Memorial Day is going to be.
- 1:12:08You know when the 4th of July is going to be.
- 1:12:09Every team should be playing that it's everybody is going to.
- 1:12:18If you're a baseball fan, you have the day off, you're more
- 1:12:20than likely going to want to tune in to watch your team.
- 1:12:22But there was, I think eight teams that were scheduled off
- 1:12:28today and then one of them, one of the games, one or maybe even
- 1:12:32two of the games got postponed today.
- 1:12:34So you're missing a third of the league.
- 1:12:39You're missing a third of the league playing on a day where
- 1:12:42majority of Americans have the day off and they're at home
- 1:12:46grilling and. The man when the when like they
- 1:12:50bring out the big flag when the national anthem just hits
- 1:12:56different on days like this. You're right.
- 1:12:59It's a big mess. It's a good green light.
- 1:13:02It's a good green light. Mine seems under underwhelming
- 1:13:05now. I think I've said it before
- 1:13:07though, so but like I don't I don't know.
- 1:13:13Also you'll you'll start to notice a trend here that my
- 1:13:15green lights will typically go along with like what I saw in
- 1:13:20Yankees games. So if you're paying attention,
- 1:13:25don't recognize that, but I think Fernando Tatis is the best
- 1:13:35outfielder in baseball. And I and I genuinely, genuinely
- 1:13:41believe that it is insane to watch.
- 1:13:48Like, it is truly impressive to see the athleticism and like,
- 1:13:56understanding of a shortstop to just be moved into the outfield.
- 1:14:04But the timing, the ability to throw from different angles,
- 1:14:08like it, we can be off balance. We don't have to be in this
- 1:14:12perfect position. I think he's the best outfielder
- 1:14:18in baseball and it's still pretty new to him.
- 1:14:25I mean, you already know that I'm my, the gears are turning in
- 1:14:29my mind about how I'm going to chop that up for a clip for
- 1:14:32social. Are you prepared to like, stand
- 1:14:34behind that? I'll catch some heat and that's
- 1:14:36OK, but all I'm saying is that like if you actually just watch
- 1:14:41and ignore numbers, ignore stats, ignore DRS, ignore D
- 1:14:46wore, just watch. I think he's the best outfit in
- 1:14:51baseball I've I've. I feel like I just didn't
- 1:15:02recognize it until watching him. This.
- 1:15:05Weekend. Was it the Platinum Glove last
- 1:15:07year or am I? Am I way off there?
- 1:15:11He definitely got a Gold Glove. He got a glove.
- 1:15:13Hold on. I hold the hold the phone here.
- 1:15:17Why? Why did I think he got a
- 1:15:19Platinum Glove last year? Yeah, he got the Platinum Glove
- 1:15:252023. All right, well, there you go.
- 1:15:28Throw some more hate on me. I've got some evidence now.
- 1:15:30I didn't even know that. Yeah, that's that's my green
- 1:15:35light. I just it's, it's absurd to
- 1:15:41watch him play. I don't hate that.
- 1:15:44I'll, I'll be honest with you. I mean, I, I, I'm kind of right
- 1:15:47there. I, I wouldn't maybe necessarily
- 1:15:49say he's the the best outfielder in baseball, but I'm, I'm like,
- 1:15:55I'm in that line of thinking because I've, I watch him too.
- 1:15:58And I'm like, this guy is just an athlete.
- 1:16:01And it's it's a guy that you can plug and play just about
- 1:16:04anywhere. Yeah, yeah, I think, I think if
- 1:16:08they really wanted to mess around and like put him in
- 1:16:11center or put him in left or slide him back into the infield
- 1:16:15randomly, like athletically he could do whatever he wants
- 1:16:19defensively. And I know that like the
- 1:16:22shortstop be like we, you know, we didn't love it, but I I think
- 1:16:28he's well above average in the outfield and it's still like
- 1:16:34he's only going to get better. So yeah, I'm just going to go
- 1:16:38and sit here and say not like overall, I'm, I'm strictly
- 1:16:42talking defensively, OK. Because like hitter wise Judge
- 1:16:47Soto, there's Trout. Like there's plenty of names
- 1:16:51that are better hitters, but defensively I think he's the
- 1:16:55best outfielder in baseball. I'm.
- 1:17:03And I won't be reading the comments for a while.
- 1:17:08Well, you, you deleted social there for for a bit.
- 1:17:12So you probably you may benefit from this.
- 1:17:14And I, I think by default, maybe I will have to I'll have to
- 1:17:17check out of the comments there for a while too.
- 1:17:19Yes. That's all right.
- 1:17:20I can't. We were.
- 1:17:21Putting out all these fires. I mean, I just said he's coming
- 1:17:26off a Platinum glove. So to say, like to say, to put
- 1:17:30it simply and say that you're like an idiot.
- 1:17:32That's just wrong because you had like he he showed us that he
- 1:17:38is more than capable of holding his own in the outfield and then
- 1:17:42he did it at a Platinum glove level.
- 1:17:44So anybody that's coming out and calling you an idiot, like they
- 1:17:48may disagree with you and that's fine, but you have the backing
- 1:17:53of a of him coming off of. A you know, you know, that like
- 1:17:58moment where man on second ball gets through the infield and
- 1:18:02it's like this like heart stops anticipation of like, oh, this
- 1:18:10is a play at the plate. We're going to see an all out,
- 1:18:15you know, janitor throw from the outfielder, Bang Bang play at
- 1:18:20home. I I can't imagine being more
- 1:18:26excited to see those opportunities than once is in
- 1:18:30right field. And you're going to know that
- 1:18:31there's a play even like a first and 1st to 3rd, even a first to
- 1:18:36third situation, a ball in the corner trying to stretch it into
- 1:18:42a double situation. It's he's absurd.
- 1:18:46He's so good to watch. I don't think he gets enough
- 1:18:48respect. I really don't.
- 1:18:53You got the you got the juices flowing a little bit.
- 1:18:55I was looking for the clip. It like went viral a couple
- 1:18:59years ago at this point. It was back when he was at short
- 1:19:01Silk. But it was the clip where it was
- 1:19:03like literally anytime Fernando Tatis does anything.
- 1:19:07And it was like it was a splice video.
- 1:19:09It was a video of somebody just hitting like the softest line
- 1:19:14drive like a little floater and he caught it.
- 1:19:16And Donald's like Fernando, that's just, that's a little.
- 1:19:22That's like what I think of anytime he makes it, anytime he
- 1:19:25makes a play of like this guy is a yeah, that's a special,
- 1:19:29special athlete. I know.
- 1:19:32All right, let's let's wrap it up.
- 1:19:34You got anything else for that's?
- 1:19:35It. That's it.
- 1:19:36And that's spicy enough. That's all I've got.
- 1:19:39Yeah, sorry. Sorry for the Monday recording
- 1:19:43again. I know there for a while we've
- 1:19:44been doing Sunday, Wednesdays, but you know with it being a
- 1:19:47long weekend and everything, logistically it made more sense
- 1:19:51for us to do tonight. So if all goes according to
- 1:19:55plan, we should be back later this week, hopefully here in a
- 1:19:58couple days and we'll keep it moving right along.
- 1:20:02Yeah, God bless anyone that knows or has family or friends
- 1:20:08that have fallen for our for our country.
- 1:20:11God bless all those that have sacrificed their lives.
- 1:20:14Amazing, amazing, amazing blessings that we have to be
- 1:20:18able to do what we do every day and the freedoms that we have
- 1:20:20for all of those people. So happy Memorial Day, Remember
- 1:20:25what it's about. Don't go chasing curveballs.
- 1:20:29Love y'all and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 1:20:31baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
