- 0:00Speaker 1: Smalsy, now on KISS Hi, it's Louis Tomlinson, taking over
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Smalsy show KISS Hello mate, how you doing?
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm good, how are you buddy?
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm alright lad, I'm alright, long time no speak.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Absolutely, where are you right now? You look like you,
- 0:15Speaker 2: have you just done some gymming or what's the story?
- 0:19Speaker 1: Do I strike you as a gym guy? Have I
- 0:21Speaker 1: ever struck you as a gym guy?
- 0:22Speaker 2: No, but it looks like you have been No, you
- 0:25Speaker 2: do look like you've been slightly active though this morning
- 0:27Speaker 2: Am I right or wrong?
- 0:29Speaker 1: I've only just woke up, to be fair. I'm still
- 0:31Speaker 1: sleeping out my eyes. But yeah, I'm all right. I'm
- 0:33Speaker 1: all right. Okay, good, good.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Well, it's wonderful to see you.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Nice to see you too, lad. Nice to see you too. Yeah,
- 0:38Speaker 1: I look forward to coming over.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Oh, we can't wait to have you. And so I
- 0:41Speaker 2: guess we should get it straight out of the way.
- 0:43Speaker 2: You're looking for an opening act.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I am, yeah. Yeah, really excited about that. Something we've
- 0:49Speaker 1: done for the last couple of tours while I've been
- 0:50Speaker 1: over there. And yeah, something I always like to do.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It's always a bit of fun. So yeah, it should
- 0:55Speaker 1: be nice.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Let me quickly go through it. So the tour, which
- 0:58Speaker 2: is going to be, how did we get here? Uh,
- 1:00Speaker 2: it's kicking off in a couple of weeks. Uh, you're
- 1:02Speaker 2: looking for an Aussie band or, or solo artist.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Either or to open up in, uh, each of, uh, Melbourne,
- 1:11Speaker 2: Sydney and Brisbane. Now this bunch of aspiring musicians who
- 1:15Speaker 2: are listening right now, who are like, Oh my God, shit,
- 1:17Speaker 2: this is my chance. This is my, this is my moment.
- 1:20Speaker 2: What are you looking for? What do you want?
- 1:23Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I'd like, you know, I,
- 1:25Speaker 1: I've got my own festival. So it reminds me of, uh,
- 1:29Speaker 1: similar to that. I mean, what would, what I'm looking for?
- 1:31Speaker 1: Just someone who's fun. Who's going to, who's going to
- 1:33Speaker 1: be brave and put on a good fun live show. Um,
- 1:37Speaker 1: but also, you know, from a point of like artistry,
- 1:39Speaker 1: someone who's a little bit different, a little bit interesting. Yeah. Um,
- 1:42Speaker 1: that's always fun for me to kind of watch, you know,
- 1:45Speaker 1: stuff that maybe isn't as down the middle. And so
- 1:47Speaker 1: then a little bit more alternative, watch my fans reaction
- 1:49Speaker 1: to that sort of stuff. So, uh, Yeah, I'm excited
- 1:52Speaker 1: to see what it is. Nice.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I don't know about you, but if I was you,
- 1:56Speaker 2: you want to look for someone who's good, but not
- 1:59Speaker 2: too good because you're the main act, right? Like everyone's
- 2:03Speaker 2: here to see me. So be good, but don't be
- 2:06Speaker 2: too good.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, a good support or warm them up though, lad.
- 2:09Speaker 1: That would be good for me.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yeah, true, true, true, true. while we're talking about what
- 2:12Speaker 2: you're looking for for re uh uh like a support
- 2:16Speaker 2: act i guess you know as someone who's got a
- 2:19Speaker 2: as a career artist like yourself what's your big advice
- 2:22Speaker 2: to a young developing artist or someone who's trying to
- 2:26Speaker 2: have a crack for the first time i think i.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Think you know when you're at the start of your
- 2:30Speaker 1: career um it can sometimes be quite challenging to say
- 2:34Speaker 1: no especially you know when there's people around you who
- 2:36Speaker 1: maybe have opinions and might be encouraging you to encouraging
- 2:40Speaker 1: you to do a certain kind of thing or kind
- 2:42Speaker 1: of music or whatever. I think at that stage, it's
- 2:45Speaker 1: mostly important of just really kind of being brave and
- 2:48Speaker 1: kind of stick to who you are as an artist
- 2:51Speaker 1: and as a person. Because everyone's just trying to guess right, really,
- 2:56Speaker 1: in that situation. So I think you know yourself best.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And I think, yeah, being brave, put yourself front and
- 3:03Speaker 1: center and be original.
- 3:05Speaker 2: No, I like that. Because there is only one you.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Am I right? Like you can't be someone else. There's
- 3:10Speaker 2: only you, right? There's only one version in the world
- 3:13Speaker 2: of you. And that's what makes you different to everybody else.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Absolutely that, yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 2: But I guess also too, like, I don't know about you,
- 3:19Speaker 2: but sometimes I shit myself. I'm like, am I worthy? Like,
- 3:22Speaker 2: you know, like when you're trying to break through, you're like,
- 3:24Speaker 2: hang on, am I good enough? Do you want me
- 3:26Speaker 2: or do you want another version of me? Because everyone,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I guess, has that imposter syndrome a little bit into
- 3:31Speaker 2: your song.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. And again, yeah, I think it's just about
- 3:35Speaker 1: being brave. You know, when you are inexperienced, there's many
- 3:37Speaker 1: experienced people around you telling you what you should do.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Just trust in your own gut.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. Hey, how was your summer? What did you
- 3:46Speaker 2: get up to? Did you do anything fun?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Summer was good, yeah. Mostly touring. I think that for
- 3:52Speaker 1: the last, like, three or four weeks, I've just been
- 3:55Speaker 1: chilling out, to be honest. I've been kind of taking
- 3:57Speaker 1: some time post that part of the tour, which was nice.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So it was great throughout the summer. You know, as
- 4:03Speaker 1: I always say, it's one of my favourite things to do.
- 4:05Speaker 1: So really love those shows, really cherish them. But excited
- 4:10Speaker 1: for us now, man. Really, really excited.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Hey, can I just quickly say, I'm not sure where
- 4:15Speaker 2: you are, but that backyard is spectacular.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd love to take claim. I'm actually at a rental,
- 4:22Speaker 1: but it's posh in there.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It is the poshest backyard. I was about to say,
- 4:27Speaker 2: has Louis Tomlinson got a green thumb, and has he
- 4:30Speaker 2: been doing that himself? That is very nice. I see
- 4:36Speaker 2: how it is. That's a very nice rental you've got there.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Hey, while I've got you, can we feed the
- 4:45Speaker 2: fans a little bit? Because I see you on TikTok
- 4:47Speaker 2: feeding the fans. So I think it's only.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I know. I never thought I'd be a TikToker, you know,
- 4:52Speaker 1: but here I am.
- 4:53Speaker 2: What happened to you? Is it one of those things
- 4:56Speaker 2: where you do it one time and then before you
- 4:58Speaker 2: know it, it's like four hours have gone past and
- 5:01Speaker 2: you're like scrolling aimlessly and you're like, damn.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Yeah. It was like one of those things that like
- 5:06Speaker 1: I was trying to deny for the longest time. It
- 5:07Speaker 1: just kept getting bigger and bigger. And then, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 1: it gets to a point where you just look stupid
- 5:12Speaker 1: for not being on it. So I think I got
- 5:13Speaker 1: to that kind of territory. Would I say it's fun?
- 5:16Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. It feels like a
- 5:19Speaker 1: whole different world, that TikTok shit, to be fair. But
- 5:22Speaker 1: it keeps the fans entertained, you know.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Okay. Well, let me quickly, I've got to ask about you.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Back in July, the 1D16 year anniversary happened, and you
- 5:30Speaker 2: went on a full ham, complete breakdown of the One
- 5:34Speaker 2: Direction Greatest Hits. And I don't know if you've spoken
- 5:37Speaker 2: about this.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I think that's the most I've ever posted on social
- 5:40Speaker 1: media in one day ever, to be fair.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Your story, it's just line, line, line, line, line, line, line.
- 5:46Speaker 2: It's like either he was very bored or he got
- 5:48Speaker 2: into a real rhythm here and thought, I'm just going
- 5:51Speaker 2: to go for days. Questions for you, including but not
- 5:55Speaker 2: limited to Infinity. You alluded– okay. You asked the question, did.
- 6:01Speaker 1: We make a video clip for this?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Full world, mate, full world. You made a video clip
- 6:06Speaker 2: for that song, right?
- 6:07Speaker 1: We did, actually, yeah. Yeah, it turns out we did, yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I actually spoke to the director who did that after
- 6:13Speaker 1: I spoke about that just to confirm. And, yeah, there
- 6:16Speaker 1: is something out there. There is something out there.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Because I heard the story was, and the only reason
- 6:20Speaker 2: anyone knows that a video clip for that song was
- 6:23Speaker 2: ever made was that a girl broke into the soundstage
- 6:27Speaker 2: and filmed you And then she leaked that on the internet,
- 6:31Speaker 2: but then no one ever saw the video.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Right. Okay. That's how people know. Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 2: What about this one? Na, na, na, na, na from
- 6:42Speaker 2: the Up All Night album, peak lyricism. There was some
- 6:45Speaker 2: quality words there.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Listen, there is genuinely some good lyrics across
- 6:50Speaker 1: some of our songs. That's just not one of them.
- 6:52Speaker 1: That is that.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Did you, did you enjoy, did you listen to, sorry,
- 6:57Speaker 2: did you listen to every record in full or did
- 7:00Speaker 2: you just go through and pick some tracks?
- 7:02Speaker 1: Um, no, I think I'm pretty, do you know what's funny?
- 7:05Speaker 1: And this feels like I've really got it in for
- 7:08Speaker 1: this song. I've been speaking bad about it recently, but
- 7:10Speaker 1: I think the only song I didn't listen to is
- 7:11Speaker 1: what makes you beautiful only because I've heard it so
- 7:14Speaker 1: many times, you know? Uh, but no, I listen, I
- 7:16Speaker 1: listen fully top to bottom and it's been, it's been
- 7:19Speaker 1: years since I've done anything like that. So, I woke up,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I felt like a good time to kind of celebrate.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I didn't realise until the day that I'd woken up
- 7:28Speaker 1: that it was an anniversary. And then I just thought,
- 7:31Speaker 1: you know, I'm fully in mood for it. So literally
- 7:33Speaker 1: all day, the band, everyone I worked with, they had
- 7:37Speaker 1: to listen to One Direction for like four hours straight.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I was loving it. Because I would imagine, though, when
- 7:42Speaker 2: you're living it, right, you would have forgotten a whole
- 7:44Speaker 2: bunch of the stuff that happened because it was just
- 7:47Speaker 2: pandemonium crazy.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Oh, definitely, yeah. Some of those songs that I literally, yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 1: if I hadn't heard them, like, recently, I'd completely forgot
- 7:53Speaker 1: they'd existed, to be honest. So, yeah, it was cool.
- 7:55Speaker 1: It was nice.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Did the words come back to you or you were like,
- 7:58Speaker 2: I do not know what happens next year? Like, I
- 8:00Speaker 2: would have to have a lyric sheet if I was
- 8:02Speaker 2: to ever sing it again.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Bit of both, bit of both. Yeah, some that would
- 8:06Speaker 1: kind of catch me by surprise that I still know
- 8:07Speaker 1: the words and others that I literally would never be
- 8:09Speaker 1: able to sing it again unless I had lyrics in
- 8:11Speaker 1: front of me. But I've got a few of the
- 8:12Speaker 1: songs I had to sing.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Well, we are very much looking forward to having you here.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's only a couple of weeks away now. we're looking
- 8:19Speaker 2: for an Aussie act to support you, a different one
- 8:23Speaker 2: for Melbourne, a different one for Sydney, a different one
- 8:25Speaker 2: for Brisbane. This is your chance to shine. It's not
- 8:28Speaker 2: very often you get like a hyper, hugely passionate fan base.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Together in one place, some Aussie artist listening right now
- 8:36Speaker 2: will be able to ride your coattails to success and fame.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Good on them, and they can go and enter right now, yes?
- 8:43Speaker 1: Yes, I'm excited.
