- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: So the last few episodes we've been talking about the front seven for the 2020s NFL draft.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: Today we're going to kick off with the secondary, and we're going to talk a little bit about the cornerbacks in the 2026 NFL draft class joining us for today's episode is coach Smith and Anthony Testino, gentlemen, how are we doing?
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: a doing well guys, glad to be here talking to you guys.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking forward to talking about these cornerbacks today.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: This was a, you know, obviously I'm going to be a position to need for the dolphins as we continue through the offsies in here.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: But this position group as far as the draft goes was one that the first couple of guys that I watched, I'm like, I, you know, wasn't real thrilled with this group, but the more that I watched them, like, there's not for me a ton of like,
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: high top 10 type guys, but when you start looking at the depth of this group, there's a lot of quality players here that we're gonna talk about today.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Hey guys doing, thanks for having me on, and yeah, I concur.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: This was a cloud.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: This was a group that really excited me once they started to get into a couple of guys.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: There were one or two randomly just kind of started picking apart who I was going to watch.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was actually, you know, Chandler Rivers was the one that kind of got me going and then I felt like I got out on a good streak and said, I like these guys.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm happy to have you to be here.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: After sure, thanks for coming on today Anthony, we'll go ahead and talk about Jeff Halfleys.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: cornerbacks and secondary starting off on what he actually values in his philosophy.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: He actually calls it vision and break match zone where the cornerbacks have to read two to one where they have to break downhill instantly in the run game.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: they have to be able to tackle in space.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: They have to be good pressmen corners that can survive because he likes his corn backs to play physical and really disrupt opposing wide receivers and tight ends, timing and first step just right out of the bat once the ball in snap.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: And we're not really talking about the safeties in today's episode, but in the next episode,
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: when they go downhill or when they're rallying to the ball.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty much for anyone in the secondary, the ball has to feel unsafe in the air.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_02]: Once the ball is in the players hand, everyone needs to rally like it's a moving target and tackle that opposing offensive player.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that when we, we look at these Jeff Hathley defenses that we've seen in Green Bay and even going back to his college days at Boston College, definitely seems to value those guys that can play in man coverage, I think the most defensive coordinator is going to value that as well, but there does seem to be a priority on guys that are willing to.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: come up and contribute in the run game guys that can do multiple things right and guys that are always looking to get involved right so not not the not so much the guy that just wants to be out there and coverage and then you know if it's not if it's not near him then the hell with it right it's the guys that want to be involved so definitely looking forward to talking about some of those guys that we have on the list today.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah and I think you know going into this draft now that
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: full control over kind of what goes on in the defensive side of the ball in the draft.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when you look at what he was working with last year at corner specifically, like it was Carrington Valentine, which again is not your typical household name.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: Kishon Nixon, who I know is kind of somebody that, you know, they.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: didn't know if he was an outside guy and inside guy wears his home, you know, because he doesn't super excel at anywhere else.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then they did spend some money on Nate Hobbs in, you know, in, in, in free agency.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: But he was banged up.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I think, you know, he's got to be salivating, looking at this class and kind of figure and like, where, you know, where's my bread and butter going to be?
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: What kind of guys am I really going to get this thing going with?
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: where John Eric Sullivan comes with his philosophy from and what Jeff Hathley really likes, you really need to recalibrate your expectations because cornerbacks come in all shapes and sizes and so starting off with the height around 71.4 inches.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: So that's around you know six feet they're going to be around a hundred and ninety five pounds just under two hundred pounds usually these guys right after the draft.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: put on an extra 5 may be 8 to 10 pounds of muscle as well in the offseason program.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: Just under 32 inch arms, but these guys are actually really fast in the back field.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: 4.4 240, 1.5 4 10-yard splint, although that 10-yard split is actually below average athletic testing for cornerbacks that have been drafted through Green Bay's pipeline for sure.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: at the 3 cone drill 6.85 shuttle 4.14 and vertical just hitting 37 inches.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: So pretty much a sub 4.4540s referred.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: 31 to maybe 32 inch arms are phenomenal as they can really contest those balls up in the air.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: They can really get physical and press against opposing water
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: The core backs have to have a clean change of direction rather than just having pure straight line speed, because they need to be able to rally to the ball.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: They need to be outmaneuver if they get caught and a bad leverage situation.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, they have to be able to wrap up in tackle.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that tackling part is going to be one of those things that separates a lot of the corners we'll talk about today.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: There are corners that can cover really well.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: There's cornerbacks that can tackle really well.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's, you know, the guys that can do both of them, that's going to be a big key for the ones that we look at here.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think in terms of the, you know, the prototype we talked about I think that is probably going to be similar to what you look at across the league.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you kind of build a corner back in the lab, you know, maybe a little bit taller for talking
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: corner back, but in terms of the athletic testing, always going to be better to be more athletic as a corner back, and the change of direction stuff really helps when you're both in man and zone coverage.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Right if you're in man coverage particularly in the slot, you got to be able to mirror that receiver change direction with him, and then in zone coverage as receivers are passing through zones and you have to adjust, you got to be able to change directions there.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: as well.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: So certainly things that, you know, most, most defensive secondary is going to be value and pretty high.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, just thinking about what we already have on the roster, I'm somebody that actually likes Jason Marshall.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Good, you know, a good bit.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be really excited to see what he can do, you know, in this kind of defense.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm hoping that halfly sees it
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: maybe his home is that safety, you know, again, we have to kind of get into, I know we're on corners today, but I do feel like it's kind of irrelevant topic and then it's an interesting topic, you know, just pre-draft stuff, you know, they had talked about how friends had maybe some safety,
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: in him.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, and it kind of stinks to at the same time on the other side of it is, you know, you look at guys like the Angela Ponds and some of the smaller guys and you're like, maybe they don't necessarily fit, but they're such good, you know, fun players that, you know, you wish like, hey, can you make an exception?
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's a damn good football player over there.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, before we get into this, these draft prospects, we have to contextualize
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: the current offense corner back room and right now they have a very thin list of people who can actually you know make the roster you know the final 53 man roster right now.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: First off, you know, Anthony spoke about Jason Marshall.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: Junior, you know, he's got the length, the pressability.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: He did have injuries last season, and there were some consistency issues, and he's not really proven to be a bona fide, you know, number one or number two guy that can play the outside or the inside on a consistent, down by, down basis.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that when you look at this corner back room as a whole, there's things that each of them do well, but there's nobody that does everything well across the board, you know, you look at Jason Marshall Jr. that has the inconsistent ball production right still very young to be expected from a fifth round pick who was kind of pushed into action as a rookie.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: You got Storm Duck who is recovering from an injury, did not have the top end speed to begin with, right?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, Caterco who kind of a smaller corner, also coming back from an injury.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: So there's some solid core players, I guess, I would describe them as, but lack of top talent in the room with what is left there.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: And you also don't know if the dolphins are going to recign resoul Douglas and Jack Jones, even though you know, I do think they could recign resoul Douglas.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: He did catch on later on part of this season was also part of Green Bay before Jeff Haffley was there where John Eric Sullivan was also there as the director of scouting and then you have developmental guys like Ethan Robinson, AJ Green, the third and Isaiah Johnson.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm a big resoul Douglas fan.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: I was personally hoping to see him back this year as long as it comes at, you know, I'd...
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: a friendly deal as far as he probably made himself some money last year with the way he played as the problem.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: And then, yes, first Jason Marshall goes, you know, I think we kind of all know and saw he had a tough, you know, he had a tough go of it, but he was getting moved around and throw it, you know, thrown into the fire, you know, the entire year it seemed like I'd be really, really excited to see him get a full off season and, you know, all the
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: training camp and all that stuff just at the boundary position and let him truly develop because they do think that was where he was at as best and there were some really good moments for him.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so the reality is pretty much in there where the dolphins are going to need a boundary starter, you know, a future.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: corner back one, you know, they're going to need insurance at that necusfies, well, that necusfies body is really boring for Jeff Hathley, like that's their disruptor.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: That's their to a forced guy in the defense.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then also long-term stability, opposite whoever is going to be playing, you know, that CB1 position as well.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: So this draft class, if the dolphins do up to, you know, double
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: into the corner back class is going to be super, super important.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we're going to get into the archetypes of some of these players and we're going to go line by line.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, the first one is going to be, you know, those vision and break drivers that are a complete system fits and Jeff Hathley's defense.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: The second one is going to be the boundary of disruptor that is their main press guy that can play a press that can get physical that can be a potential CB2 and be that locked down.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_02]: The third one is a balanced guy that can work in zone, that can work in man, but does not necessarily have all the top end traits that can make them a number one or a number two guy starting off the bat.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: Then obviously, your nickel hybrid enforcer and then your developmental guys who you're gonna bet your traits on.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: The first one, and I think most of us can agree within the structure driver archetype is going to be a one-sword delay in out of LSU.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely, but, you know, how some UI and, uh,
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Eric all had him is our number one guy.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's probably in the same boat.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's well, this guy is sticky in man coverage.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: He can fall receivers into the slot, but then do it at time, but this is the type of guy that can shadow receiver all over the field.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that he, I have some questions about his contributions in the run game, but
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: like the way that he plays both in man and zone coverage feel like when he's playing in zone.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: He does a good job keeping his eyes forward while still being able to stay with the receiver.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he will contest at the catch point without committing penalties.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a little bit more of that pure coverage guy, but he's so good at it.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, he's he's clearly around one corner in the conversation there.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: at number 11 in, you know, I think that when you get a guy like delaying, that's the kind of guy that you could put into line up from day one and then kind of let the other side sort it out if you don't find the guys that you want in the second and third round.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like when you're talking about the the juju-brands, the Jason Marshall Geniors, those type of guys, let them battle it out to compliment delaying on the other side, but delaying is a
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally agree.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's got CB1 written all over him just has the look about him.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: I love his feet.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: He just he never looks like he's like ever worried or panicky.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: He just like he's like he's always one step ahead, you know.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: Any time there's switch releases or anything like that, you know, where maybe an aggressive corner back and they're trying to, you know, do something and maybe, you know, get them to take the cheese like he's just, he's unfazed by it just always looks like he's in, you know, top notch position.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Um, again, you said it very sticky and coverage will play through the hands, uh, you know, feisty, just, uh, yeah, all of it, man, he checks all the boxes and I agree.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: The, the one thing, and it usually is, right, for every corner, it's kind of like the tight end conversation, right?
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: Can you block?
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: Well, with corners, it's kind of like, well, Kenny Tackle, right?
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's always like the
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: the one and from what I've seen so far he seems willing, you know, I've seen him even kind of fight off, you know, like Somebody coming out where you're trying to basically set the edge and force it back inside a little bit You know again still early, you know in in watching the tape I've only gone through a you know a couple games But yeah again nothing nothing alarming there
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we had an elite man defense grade from PFF, which was an A9.1, less than 30 QBR allowed in man in zone coverage, less than 40% catch rate as one has a career interception that this isn't a elite vision corner and a guy who can elevate Jeff Halfly scheme.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: The second guy, while he's not number two in our quarterback rake in rankings, he is the second guy in that, you know, structure driver archetype is avion terrell at a Clemson 511 180 pounds projected to run a sub 4.4 40 is the brother of Atlanta Falcons player AJ Terrell.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of heavy man covered with some zoned match flexibility.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's actually got the best eyes in the class.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: Can pattern match a lot of things.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't necessarily see him as a lock down boundary guy.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: He can actually switch between inside and out.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, he is feisty though.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: I will say so he even though with his frame his size, you know, less than 190 pounds pretty feisty and you know, if you can rotate your guys like, you know, Jeff Haffley sometimes does with his cornerbacks.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be at not a lot.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: You can move him into the nickel and those third down packages, blitz him a little bit and help out and run defense, but
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about his tackle form and run defense obviously, you know, that's the biggest question mark with him.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like, are you going to ask him to play downhill into the box as, you know, your nickel guy, like 20 snaps a game.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like, are you going to purely utilize him as a nickel?
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: Are you going to make him move around or is he just an outside guy?
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: You know,
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: He can't create turnovers, he's a ball punch technician and has around eight force fumbles.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Last season, I believe.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, eight force fumbles.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: Last season, I clumsy.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, so Terrell is a guy that I'm kind of conflicted on, right?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: You talked about the size of an inch shorter and 10 pounds later than Delane, so definitely a different build there can get pushed around a little bit by the bigger receivers, but he is scrappy, he's feisty, right?
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's a type of guy that, you know, kind of cater co-style that on those screens, he's going to fly up and not be afraid of contact to make the play.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: not afraid to come off the edge.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: You talked about the peanut type punching where they have in my notes that he plays with physicality to dislodge the ball, competes through the ground.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I like him.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just not sure that we talk about delaying and being that guy that can step in is essentially a number one quarter from day one.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure I see that with Tourettele and like in this one, like I,
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: a note that I have that I feel like I might just kind of be making up right is I feel like he's always like just on the edge of getting beat right he's there he's making plays in college but he's like just on the edge of disaster and that kind of concerns me when we project that to the NFL and you're playing against the top end talent every week um
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: But again, I love his play style as attitude, just have a few questions with him that would worry, you know, take it in too high and like you said a song, right?
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: This is the type of guy that you need to kind of have a plan for.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: You can't kind of set it and forget it.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: You got to be able to move him around to maximize his abilities there.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he was actually when I spoke earlier about one of the guys that got me excited.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: He was one where early on from the tape that I was watching, yeah, he kind of got me going because again, I like the guys that play with that edge man, that feistyness, that nastiness, like it's like they have, you know, the little guys syndrome almost right, like they feel like they got a puffed their chest out a little bit when they're out there.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: They're never short on confidence, it's hard to break them.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then, honestly, I would piggyback most of what you guys have already touched on with him.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: Just yeah, I was a fan as well.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think he can be sticky and coverage at times, drives on the ball very well.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I don't want to be a broken record, but I do have a little bit more work to do on some of these guys.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: So again, I don't want to make up things that I haven't seen yet.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the next guy on the list, who was actually the final guy on the list for, you know, the structure driver archetype is Davison Ignoson.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: Now, he's not top 10 in our list just on a pure talent wise, but fit wise for Jeff Hathley.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think if you can get a guy like this.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, at the back end of the third or early fourth, depending on how, you know, the picks start falling in the first and second round for cornerbacks, I think this is a guy you could work towards 6292 pounds is projected to run a 4.3 40 32 and 7 8.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: inches for his arms.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's more so of a man guy, he's a pressed disruptor, he's physical.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's got elite recovery speed, but he needs some work in his own coverage, as well.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: 81 zone QBR for opposing.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: quarterbacks less than a 40 QBR in man coverage and in the man catch rate less than 13% of wider severs were able to catch a ball up against Davis and Equinox.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: So this is one of those guys that when I you know says the top of the show about the depth of this group this is the kind of guy that with all the guys that I have with
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: round two-ish grades, some of them are going to get pushed down, and that could be what happens with an egg benocin or somebody else.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about Tarrell and lacking the size, and one of those things that egg benocin does not lack at all, you know, six foot two kind of had a reputation of being grabby early in his career, which led to some penalties.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: I like the way that he comes up.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: and we'll play in the run game, he'll play in the box a little bit when you need to.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously not something we want him doing a lot.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: The biggest downfall for him for me is he's strictly a boundary type guy.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: Don't feel like he has the smoothest hips when he's changing directions, but once he does get the hips around he has good acceleration.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a little it's
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: a smooth transition, but it's not quite that quick twitch that you see with the shorter quicker corners like that.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like he's also
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: The way I described it as a kind of a high variation player, that may need some splash place early in his career to kind of earn some of that leniency.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: We see some of these corners that come out and they get penalties early in the career and kind of develop that reputation and then never recover from it.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I could see that being Ignosin, but at the same time, I could also see him being the type of player that comes out, can get his hands on the ball a few times early in his
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: and kind of earns that leniency from the rest where he's allowed to play a little more physical.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: If he can find that groove, then I think there's a lot to like here, but I think that kind of the reputation that he earns early in his career could go a long way towards determining what type of player he is.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's very, very important that Miami themselves would have to establish themselves as a physical defense
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: with a Jeff Halfley's team showing up, you know, the refs kind of concater to that a little bit, not that it's special treatment right, but they do seemingly, you know, pay attention to kind of what you are right and then can call the game accordingly.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: And so I agree, you know, with that, yeah, it's 16 penalties in 2024, you know, he had a bunch through every year of college.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Did clean it up more last year from the size perspective?
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you know, it's a big time fit athletic traits profile speed.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: All that stuff is awesome.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: I was personally not a huge fan though, just did not like, you know,
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: It was one that was bothering me when you get to use the grabbing and it can be an issue.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, like I said, it's cleaned up.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's still had six or something like that.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: It was still like a decent number.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, again, all the traits in the world, probably exactly what you're kind of looking for when you talk about that prototype, right, but not really for me.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: Again, but I
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: disclaimer, I do have to go back and watch more.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm hoping that I do have a change of opinion, but so far, you know, not not not my style guy.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now we're going to head over to the next tier, which is our boundary press disruptors.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: We actually have two players on this list.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: The first one is
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: when Jermon McCoy had his ACL tear so he was thrusted into that starting corner back line up six foot 180 pounds is projected to run around a 4.4 40 less than 32 inch arms it's around maybe 31 and a half.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: The reason why I have him more so in that boundary press tier is because he
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: better in man coverage than he is in zone coverage.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's press man first, but he's not just a press only guy.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: The talent is there for him as well, but in Jeff Hathley's scheme, I wouldn't really rank him within the top five just because of the scheme.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_02]: Now, yes, he's, you know, battle tested in the, in the SEC, he's held TET McMillan to 30 at yards two years ago.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_02]: He's getting a lot of senior bullbuzz natural press technician.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: his own man.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: We know Jeff Hathley likes to play a lot of Zones.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_02]: Within the cover 3 family, within the cover 2 family as well, and mixes in 4 and 6.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: We know you played more man in 2023, but he mixed it up in 2024 when he did not have that.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: good of a talent level.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: Right now, I don't think this Dolphins quarterback in secondary will have that good of a talent level that the 2023 Packers secondary have.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: You have a lot of unanswered questions.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_02]: You can't take that risk as well in that secondary just yet because the Dolphins don't really have a good enough front seven to rush for.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_02]: So having a guy like
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's talented, but is the juice worth this squeeze within the first year or two of having him?
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, this is a guy that's bounced around to a good bit three years through school displayed at Auburn, Colorado, and Tennessee.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, very good in man coverage has some, you know, knees develop a little more in terms of zone coverage.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think the physical skills are there.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: but could take some time to catch up.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then I have on my notes that it's a guy that's willing to come up in the run defense, but not a great tackler, right?
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: So we're at this point almost talking about a one-trick pony in terms of, you know, zone, man, run defense.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: It, you know, he's more of a
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: has some stuff that needs to be developed to really be confident in putting him in the system.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just just real quickly.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: He was another one that I have to go back and take more of a look at because surface level was not in love with him the way that I liked a lot of the other guys thought just the way he played certain things from a technique issue.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: or sorry perspective, I just, again, not really for me, but again, I have to look at it through what Jeff Halfley's going to do.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: So again, maybe second round, you know, he'll impress me.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's getting a lot of first-round mocks as well and is like,
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: getting picked around the 16th, 7th pick.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: All right, the next guy is Julian Neal out of Arkansas, not necessarily first round pick, maybe not second round either, but you could look at an early day, three pick within the back end of the third round, maybe fourth or fifth round.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: Again, depending on how the board falls, but I actually really like his fit.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_02]: uh, in Miami, uh, 62002 pounds, um, projected to be a 4.640, but again, elite straight line speed is not the name of the game.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's about can you move in space?
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: Can you have that change of direction?
- 30:59[SPEAKER_02]: And he does, and what I actually wrote down is he lacks a vertical recovery speed, but has good change of direction because of his size.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's a press-size weapon he can defend in the red zone, he can be an edge-setter in the run game as well.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's actually a scheme fit for mine, even though he can line up in press, pretty well just because of his size and length.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff Haffley kind of ran something similar to that in San Francisco with Richard Sherman.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: You had those big 6162 guys that were lengthy had good arms, not necessarily elite recovery speed, but can match up and be physical and play more so cover a three cover one when it's needed on those third downs again.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_02]: Julian Neil has that, you know, zone third defender, make up in him, but I don't necessarily see him as, you know, quarterback one, a guy that can work the island like Richard Sherman used to do and he does need work tackling has a 9% mistalkery.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, at the risk of, you know, not wanting to be repetitive, if we go back to the conversation that we just had about Davis and Ignanos, and I'm going to say that a lot of the same exact things regarding Julian Mealy here, right, maybe a notch below it a little bit in terms of the coverage and stuff like that.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: He is willing to get involved in the run game and.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we'll just take his nose in there.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: But the tackling in the open field is a question for me.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not a willingness, right?
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: But the form in the open field scares me a little bit on the edge.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: But like I said, a lot of the same notes as Ignos and they're just kind of a tear down from there for me.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I actually liked Chris Johnson.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I think when you brought up the Richard Sherman,
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know point the way he moves in like his body and and that's kind of what I see I always try to you know make NFL Comps like who does he look like who does he move like and he kind of does have that Just that longer like it's smooth but it's different because he's bigger You know, I was a fan so yeah, I definitely think he's on the radar for you know as to be at Miami Dolphin day two
- 33:34[SPEAKER_02]: All right, before we head to our next or archetypes, we are gonna take a quick break with a message from our sponsor, Factor Meals.

- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: and we're back.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: All right, the next archetype is gonna be your match zone guys who are perfect schematic fits and Jeff Hathley's defense.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: The first one we're gonna talk about is Chris Johnson out of San Diego State and Anthony.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's got
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: really good zone coverage skills, he's an advanced zone processor, less than a 50% category, which you can say is not necessarily elite, but it can be good enough because within zone coverage, you're not necessarily up on your man, you're on a part of the field, and at some point, within the NFL, when you're playing zone coverage, you tend to give up a little
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: the opposing receivers running back some tight ends can make those catches.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: He's got almost a 92 PFF grade in zone and opposing quarterbacks.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: I have a QBR of less than 20.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I apologize.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: I was locked into Chris Johnson on the last guy you were talking about.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: So you're sorry for that.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: But getting back on track, yeah, man.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like I again, I agree with what you're saying though.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: I love the way moves and that's why I was kind of talking about Richard Sherman.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because Sherman was locked down.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't move from that side.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he didn't do.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: didn't do anything, you know, too much other than play that cover three man and press, you know, I'm pressure with his long arms and beat you up there and make you work for every yard you got.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: But, um,
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Johnson not saying he is that or exactly that you know or has even the same playstyle but I just I love the movement and the length and the size and all that to me yeah I think I'm a big fan of him.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: Coach I think you're a much bigger fan of Arizona State's Keith Abney.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead and talk about him a little bit.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah so you know Keith Abney
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: Good size, right, six foot 190 high energy guy does not offer a lot in the run game support and it's not that he's not afraid of getting involved.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't think he's a very good tackle.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: Right, whether it's in traffic or in the open field, I have questions about his tackling.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: ability.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing with him is that he has very good ball skills, right, competing at the catch point.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: He plays bigger than his size in coverage.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so I like the all around game,
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: of some of these other guys like Malik Muhammad, even Ignosin.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: I like them better than Abni is all around players, but cornerbacks, number one job is to cover.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I just love what Abni does as a coverage corner.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: Unless that's not to say that he doesn't have some faults that would keep him from being around one pick for me, but when we start to get into outside of round one and we're trying to find
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: not necessarily guys that do everything well right but you're trying to find guys that do something well that you can work with and a corner that can cover is something that you can always work with.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah and I think you know you talked about Malik Muhammad and I'll touch up on him as well.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: He might not be the most flashy guy and you know initially I saw him more so not as a
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to see it through Jeff Hathley's lens, a little bit, because I think he might be one of the more important guys that are structurally sound within Jeff Hathley's scheme.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he can be a boundary guy, he can be a match zone guy, he can also play the nickel like Keith Abney can as well.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: Six foot, doesn't have the same weight where he is 190, but he is 183.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: long harms 32 inch arms and is projected to run a 4.4 40.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: Now let's go over the stats right here.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_02]: He's not can he's not super elite in man coverage.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_02]: He allows almost a 48 to 50% catch rate 54.3 QBR allowed.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_02]: But this is against SEC level talent, right?
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: Colton, how do we talk about SEC level talent, your modern employee?
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: We talk about SEC level talent as well.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_02]: Not the best, but you gotta think about.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_02]: He was most of the balls weren't necessarily thrown his way as well.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_02]: So when he did get thrown his way, it was pretty much a coin flip.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not like he was getting thrown out, you know, passes were being thrown more than five, six times a game.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_02]: It was like maybe two or three against him.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: Zone coverage 61.8 QBR, not elite but middle of the pack.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: He's not statistically dominant.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's not an eraser.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: And he's not that chaotic guy like to roll.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_02]: But quarterbacks kind of throw a little bit away from Malik Muhammad.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: And that's kind of what you want in your quarterback, in your quarterback, you want a guy that can shut down your opposing why receiver one that the quarterback does not actually look at him and limits the explosives.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just quick for me on Muhammad.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: I have him sandwiched between Abni and Ignanose and on my board.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think he is a better all around player than either of those guys and as far as, you know, what he can do on the field, all I'm gonna say is, you know, go turn on the Ohio State game and watch him stand up to the challenge of Jeremiah Smith and Cardinal Tate.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: You'll like him.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: I absolutely agree.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: He's I think he's more battle tested than compared to Davis and Ignosin and Colton Hood.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was a fan of Malik as well, and you know, just going through these names, you know, it's a
- 41:39[SPEAKER_01]: You can't not, you know, be excited for what's going to be available, you know, in round two and round three waiting for you.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: I really think mine can come out with, you know, a couple guys here in this draft and get this defense turn around.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we'll move on to our next archetype, which is the nickel enforcers.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'd actually really, really like this guy out of Miami, Count A Scott.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we saw what he did in the playoffs, coming out of that injury.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God, he played inside that nickel and could play just a little bit of safety, in the nickel and dime sets as well, but 70% slot alignment.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_02]: Five sex.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_02]: for he does tend to miss tackles over a good chunk rate.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'll say that.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, County Scott, right, the games that I watched he played almost exclusively in the slot and I don't, I don't know that was a knock against, County Scott because he is very effective in there, right, he is physical enough to play in the box, he's smart enough to rotate to save you when you need to, he in the run game, he's able to slip blocks effectively.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think he anticipates well has good eyes and zone coverage.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's a dependable tackler, which is something that we, you know, have said is an issue with some of these other guys.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I, you know, I do, there is a little bit of curiosity is the why he was only played in the slot when I watched him.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to see him more on the boundary.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I do think that
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: In the NFL, he's going to be the guy that you put into the slot.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: My question with him is, is this a starting caliber player that can also play on the boundary and your base defense, or is this a guy that is very role specific?
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I do like him.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_00]: He has a lot of value in any system.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, is he a every down player?
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's the biggest question I have with Giante Scott.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm a fan as well.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_01]: And if I'm not mistaken, I do think he played a little bit more boundary at his previous spot wherever that was off the top of my head.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's all right, right.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I know that there is some experience there.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: I've been envisioning him in the slot in the box, that kind of thing what he did do at Miami.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: And again, just applying that through the Dolphins lens, is this a guy that can go back and play safety
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: you know, for anywhere from five to ten snaps a game and kind of, you know, fill that javon bullard roll, or, or, you know, do they just play more of your typical nickel rather than a big nickel and can't they just got, you know, as maybe just your nickel player.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: So these are just the kind of conversations, you know, that you end up having inside your own head when you're going through these guys and, you know, if they fit or not, but again,
- 44:43[SPEAKER_02]: outside of Jeff Haffley and John Eric Sullivan's thresholds.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: Just a little.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: No pun intended.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: Just a little on intended.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: And it's actually national championship.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: He's got national championship, pedigree, d'Angelo Ponds.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: Five nine tadbit under 175
- 45:07[SPEAKER_02]: and easy fast.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_02]: He's super fast.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's got that quick trigger.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's got the ball production.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we saw him against mine.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he can't, Carson Beck could not throw to any receiver that was playing against the actual pawns.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: Although I, I give a little bit of benefit of doubt because
- 45:27[SPEAKER_02]: Carson Beck was particularly not really that good in that game, but back to pawns.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, less than nine yards per catch given up 87 man grade, I think and NFL just pure Nick for sure.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_02]: Just pure Nick, I don't feel super comfortable with the guy with his frame.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_02]: trying to lock down a guy like Cache on Boote, trying to lock down a guy like DK Matt Caffe, if somehow the dolphins play the steeplears, again, whether it be in the playoffs.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of these AFC wide receivers as well.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to take pause first.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: I was just gonna say, the one guy that I keep coming back to is like, can he be DJ Reed?
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: Another guy that is small, five, nine, really fast,
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: Um, feisty, you know, but he, he primarily plays boundary, right?
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: So that is the question and obviously, you know, a son kind of just touched on that.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'm not sure yet, but I want to get to that point where I do think he can be a boundary guy.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I definitely want to believe in him because he is so, you know, feisty and confident.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: And again, one of those guys that he's going to stick his chest out, like, you know, he's there just because he's small, man.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: You better, you better bring it because it's not, you know, you can punch in the mouth.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to see him like a bobby McCain type of guy and bobby like bobby McCain played a little bit boundary.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right, go ahead there.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, no, the comparison that I have in there in his style of play or a little faster than this player, but Caterco who, right, same type of mentality there with the Angelopons, if he was 6 foot 190 pounds, he'd be a clear round one guy, but, you know, the size is a legitimate question, right?
- 47:23[SPEAKER_00]: We talk about, um,
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: John Eric Sullivan talking about, you know, in bad weather that big doesn't get small, right?
- 47:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he's small and he's always going to be small.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that when you look at his projection to the NFL, it probably is as a slot defender first until he's able to get in there and to prove he's able to compete.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: Right, and maybe in year two or three if he is excelling in the slot, right, then maybe you can have the confidence to put them out there, right, because he does play much bigger than that five foot nine 180 frame, but being able to be confident in doing that from day one in the NFL is something that most teams are probably going to be hesitant with doing.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we will move on to our final archetype, and it's more so developmental guys in Jeff Hathley system that are not fit that are kind of square pegs in round holes.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, take that what I'm saying with the grain of salt, like they can work, but it's going to be super inconsistent.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: The first guy I have on the list is Brandon CC.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's actually rated six on my board just because of talent, but in half Lee system
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: He's just more so of just a generic press guy.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: He flashes, he's not consistent and Jeff Haffley's quarterbacks, they have to be consistent.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's a bit more volatile because he can give up those explosives.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, he's got the speed, he can recover, he's aggressive, he's got the physical tools.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: But he can bite on the misdirection on the motions.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: He loses that route, layering.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: He drifts in space.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_02]: And he can't do that.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: He can't drift in zone coverage that much.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: And a Jeff Haffley's vision and break system drifting pretty much equals explosives in the past again.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a guy that seems to be climbing on some draft boards.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't see it.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I see it in the talent, right?
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: because he's got good size, is willing to come up and contribute in the run game.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's willing to come up and set an edge in the run game.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_00]: The problem is he's just not a good tachler.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: And he'll come out there and he will try to punch the ball out and gets his hands on the ball frequently.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_00]: But it just is not a good tachler, a little bit grabby.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like he's going to,
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: have to change the way that he plays when he gets into the NFL.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I just I feel like there's a lot of volatility here in terms of of what you can get.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: Not sure that this is a player that you can
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: roll out there day one and have him playing a high percentage of snaps feels like it's more of a player that you draft is a developmental guy and get him in there a few plays here and there and you know build up that technique build up that confidence and maybe eventually you have a a really good player with this talent but not not something that I'm willing to give that trust to right away.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just real quick, one thing to add.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: I found interesting was, I listen, you know, I'm sure we all kind of do what we all have our avenues for trying to collect information, gather different opinions, that kind of thing, you know, I listened to Todd McShay.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: He actually, you know, he said, he got a text from like an NFL exact.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: and said, hey, go watch, you know, Brandon says again, and he brought up CB1 in that conversation, which kind of blew my mind.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_01]: So just yeah, I agree.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see it either at a surface level, but, um,
- 51:21[SPEAKER_01]: Again, just food for thought, something to keep in mind that this is how different things, you know, different opinions can really be on players.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_01]: So, as far as drafting, think maybe a guy is going to go here in this range.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: It could be completely different.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because you don't know what the staff has in mind and we definitely don't know.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_02]: We're just projecting based on, you know,
- 51:45[SPEAKER_02]: you know historical notes, events, and trends, not what's coming up in the future.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_02]: Anthony talk about Chandler Rivers a little bit because we see him as a developmental upside guy in Miami if he's drafted in Jeff Hathley's system.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_01]: I like him a lot obviously we'll start there but you know what he he kind of reminds me a little bit of the avion to row right from just the same kind of player where he wants to get up in your face and he can press place feisty place Through the ball you know rakes the hands you know tackles aggressively when the opportunities there not afraid of contact
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: seeing him kind of play in between zones when he's falling back, you know, taking care of, you know, and cover two responsibilities and other things where, you know, he's got a shift and take care of one, but, you know, covering the back side, and he's gotten a couple picks that way by putting himself an excellent position.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: I do look at it, you know, from a profile, his athletic profile perspective, and I do kind of lean towards the fact that he probably will have to come inside the nickel.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_01]: Where, you know, I actually have a little bit more confidence that ponds or, you know, somebody, you know, somebody like that could play outside where rivers is really giving me nickel vibes.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: But as a player, yeah, man, you can sign me up for that and hopefully, you know, he's somebody there maybe in round four, round three, you know, something like that.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, he's probably.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be comfortable if he was maybe the second or the third corner take and not my obviously waiting in the draft and making him the first corner taken, but I am a big fan.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I got a lot of similar notes to you there Anthony on him, you know, I feel like he's a very smart player.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think he plays very well and zone covered with his, you know, eyes towards the quarterback.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I do have questions about obviously his size, right?
- 53:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's another one of those five nine's round 185 pound guy doesn't have the elite change of direction with the other smaller guys have.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: But willing to come up in the run game, I think that the slot is a good place for my going to expect him to test overly well at the combine, have him as a day three guy as well, but like you said there, Anthony, like this is, you can get something out of him, but if you trot him out there and he is the premier player that you have,
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: As a corner back, and that's going to be a problem, but if you have two solid corners around him and you're filling in with a guy like this, then you know, I think you could you could have something here with him.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well said.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_00]: You're muted or something.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm back.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm back coach, did you watch Devon Moore out of Florida money chance?
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Moore, I do not have him on my list.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_02]: Anthony.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: I did a little bit, again, surface level, apologies for being a little bit repetitive there with that, but I've seen a lot of good notes on him from people, I didn't see it to be honest.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_01]: I saw a couple things that I liked, but I was so brief and I was turned off by it fairly early on that not anything that grabbed my attention at least.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_02]: Well, here's one thing where I feel like if Chris Greer was still here, if you'd like to have been more would be one of those guys where he would draft him maybe in the third or fourth ground.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_02]: 6-3.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's got real size, real length.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_02]: He makes quarterbacks that are high risk balls.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's a straight up boundary guy, comfortable in cover one, cover three.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_02]: He's got the strength to play press man.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_02]: He dictates through receivers.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_02]: Physically, he can set the edges.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he wraps up
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: But talk about shoulder surgeries, talk about back issues, concussion history, like these are not minor things, like these are like actual, real medical red flags.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_02]: And he's only really got one full season of consistent production with Jeff Halfway and John Eric Sullivan,
- 56:22[SPEAKER_02]: availability really does matter for every single player at every single position.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_02]: And with the dolphins corner back room last season, they already had a lot of injury concerns.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_02]: If they do tend to keep cater co-hoo and storm duck, you already have guys who are coming off of, you know, you know,
- 56:45[SPEAKER_02]: like heavy injuries like ACL, you know, heal issues, knee issues as well, and you don't have that much experience either with a guy like Devon Moore.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_02]: With Chris Gear, it would more so be a projection over resume, but with John Eric Sullivan, it's resume and production
- 57:12[SPEAKER_02]: So what, you know, at the end of this podcast, pretty much you want guys who can play, who play big and who are not, you know, chaoticly explosive or give up, you know, big runs, big passes.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_02]: You want guys who are stable and consistent.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you want guys that can just really stabilize the secondary room.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, some of these guys, I mean, I think it's, uh, to Cario Davis, I put him kind of in the same boat, but he has some injury issues as well that, you know, my, basically X him off the board, but, you know, kind of as a general statement is, you know, I close out my part here.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: Is I think this is going to be a good position to look at the dolphins to, to double down, right?
- 58:01[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe one of the first or second round, then circle back again, another one as well.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_00]: there's a lot of good prospects in this draft of the corner position and it's going to be kind of hard to go wrong with kind of a two or three of these guys.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would concur totally, you know, expect them to take two just because again some, you know,
- 58:23[SPEAKER_01]: talked about how bare it really is at the beginning of the podcast, but with that said, I will say with what's there, Jason Marshall and Judeo-Brens, like there is some intrigue there, you know, it's not like it's just Ethan Bonner and Storm Duck, you know, so at least we have that going for us.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I am, I'm excited about this position as far as the offseason to draft and
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and again, Jeff Halfley's a guy that typically runs the defense through the secondary.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, that's awesome.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really excited about what the DBs and just all of that, what that ends up looking like.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, if the dolphins can come away with a guy like,
- 59:14[SPEAKER_02]: you know, Malik Mohammed, you know, in the second round and in Davis and it been no sin in the fourth round.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's really, really a good value and can really solidify your corner back room with there.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_02]: That they at least need one player from two archetypes that can at least stabilize this room.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: All right, and that's it for us on today's episode.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_02]: If you guys have not already, make sure you are subscribed to only Finns, thank you guys for listening on scouting.
