Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Roman Harper on Alabama Football, Tennessee Rivalry & SEC Predictions
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Jim Dunaway, Lance Taylor, Ryan Brown, live. The next round
- 0:11Speaker 1: is on now. As you would imagine, we will get
- 0:17Speaker 1: to a ton of college football today coming up, including
- 0:22Speaker 1: massive injury reports that came out in college football yesterday
- 0:26Speaker 1: with impactful players everywhere. We've got a big NFL game tonight,
- 0:30Speaker 1: Seahawks and Broncos we'll jump into. In the city we
- 0:33Speaker 1: live in, UAB plays a football game on a Thursday
- 0:36Speaker 1: night on national TV tonight. We'll talk about that. But
- 0:40Speaker 1: it occasionally dawns on me because of the way we
- 0:44Speaker 1: do this show now for almost 18 years that people
- 0:49Speaker 1: are still, I guess we're such, we set the bar
- 0:54Speaker 1: so low on this show that that people are always
- 0:57Speaker 1: amazed that we occasionally are okay broadcasters. Again, we set
- 1:03Speaker 1: the bar so low here for four hours a day
- 1:06Speaker 1: that when we jump on to do an exhibition basketball
- 1:08Speaker 1: game on YouTube last night, people are like, hey, you know,
- 1:11Speaker 1: you guys are pretty good. I got a lot of
- 1:13Speaker 1: good feedback. That was the feedback I got last night.
- 1:15Speaker 1: For those that missed it, we called the Auburn-Florida State game,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and they were like.
- 1:19Speaker 2: You guys are actually pretty good. I did not have
- 1:21Speaker 2: one person tell me anything. Oh, good or bad. It's
- 1:24Speaker 2: all on social media. I got a lot of compliments
- 1:26Speaker 2: on you.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Don't worry. I'm glad you guys are getting it. No, no, no.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You were part of it. You got compliments.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I mean, you guys, the only play-by-play I've done, and
- 1:35Speaker 2: I've done a lot of it, is baseball. And baseball,
- 1:38Speaker 2: some people say, is the most difficult game. Some people
- 1:41Speaker 2: say it's easier, you know, because it just depends on
- 1:43Speaker 2: if you're able to do the rapid action. But you
- 1:46Speaker 2: guys have both done basketball before. Brown does a great job.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I've never really heard you do basketball at all.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It's actually what I'm best at.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sitting there on the bench in what
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'm best at. I suck at football. We've been asked
- 1:59Speaker 1: to do another game. It's a regular season game for
- 2:01Speaker 1: the SEC Network. Do you want to do play-by-play on
- 2:03Speaker 1: that one? We're doing an SEC Network. No, no, no.
- 2:06Speaker 1: We've been asked. SEC Network Plus. We've been asked, but
- 2:09Speaker 1: it is true. It's fun. I might let you two
- 2:12Speaker 1: have this one. Yeah, I'm just saying if you want
- 2:14Speaker 1: to do play-by-play, I'll do color. Well, I'll need to
- 2:17Speaker 1: know who's involved. You saw one of the teams last night.
- 2:22Speaker 1: We're going to Tallahassee?
- 2:26Speaker 2: Anyway, with all that said, it's more difficult than people
- 2:30Speaker 2: think because if you do this, Let's say that who
- 2:35Speaker 2: are some of the best broadcasters week in, week out
- 2:39Speaker 2: in college basketball?
- 2:40Speaker 1: College basketball? I do like Dan Shulman. I think he
- 2:43Speaker 1: and Billis are a good team. Tom Hart does a
- 2:45Speaker 1: good job. I was going to say, I enjoy Tom Hart.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Tom's good at everything he does.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Doing it all the time, you get familiar, just like
- 2:51Speaker 2: we get familiar watching college basketball throughout the year. And
- 2:54Speaker 2: we know with Transfer Portal and just I mean, you
- 2:58Speaker 2: brought this up last night. Only 5% of the offensive
- 3:01Speaker 2: production returned for Luke Laux and Florida State in year two.
- 3:04Speaker 3: That's right.
- 3:05Speaker 1: So you've got to completely.
- 3:07Speaker 3: you.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Know revamp this roster and at the same time we've
- 3:10Speaker 2: got to go through all of these bios and and
- 3:12Speaker 2: go through all of these numbers and it's just it's
- 3:14Speaker 2: a lot of work for one call yeah but you
- 3:16Speaker 2: know once you get into the season and you've seen
- 3:18Speaker 2: these team multiple times it gets a little easier but
- 3:20Speaker 2: i mean to do it you know once a year
- 3:23Speaker 2: one time going in with all this information it's a lot.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah and i tell brown you know me i overanalyze
- 3:28Speaker 1: everything i thought i got a lot better the final
- 3:31Speaker 1: 30 minutes of the game than I did the first
- 3:33Speaker 1: 10 minutes. I was very quiet the first 10 minutes.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I couldn't jump in.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Like Brown probably told you, I have no idea. It
- 3:39Speaker 2: seemed like the whole broadcast was about the same.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you did a wonderful job early on filling in
- 3:45Speaker 1: when I was afraid to talk, and then I jumped in.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I mean, I enjoy doing the play-by-play. I really do
- 3:50Speaker 1: enjoy that. Somebody asked me today, a golf buddy of mine,
- 3:54Speaker 1: was like, why do you not do that more?
- 3:56Speaker 3: And I'm like, I don't.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Know that i'm any good at it number one and
- 4:00Speaker 1: number two there just aren't opportunities i mean where am
- 4:02Speaker 1: i supposed to go i did back in the early
- 4:05Speaker 1: when i was in my 20s um i did the
- 4:08Speaker 1: super six you guys the super six for those that
- 4:11Speaker 1: don't know is the high school football championship games back
- 4:13Speaker 1: in the day here in birmingham you're sure with herb
- 4:15Speaker 1: right i did i did it with herb and matt
- 4:16Speaker 1: coulter and people like that was on radio no it's
- 4:19Speaker 1: tv they had tv when you were in your 20s
- 4:23Speaker 1: You're getting older. It's an old joke. And I did it,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and one of the directors was a guy they brought in.
- 4:30Speaker 1: They spent a lot of money, and they brought him in.
- 4:31Speaker 1: He did ESPN games, and he was like, hey, have
- 4:32Speaker 1: you ever thought about doing play-by-play? I was like, I
- 4:34Speaker 1: enjoy doing it.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 4:35Speaker 1: He goes, well, man, I could get you some ESPN games.
- 4:38Speaker 1: He goes, now, I'm just going to be blunt with you.
- 4:40Speaker 1: They're not going to pay you. He said, I'm just
- 4:42Speaker 1: going to be blunt with you. He said, you could
- 4:44Speaker 1: work all fall next year. I can get you all
- 4:46Speaker 1: fall next year. He said, but you're going to have
- 4:47Speaker 1: to do the bottom-of-the-barrel games probably for two or three years,
- 4:50Speaker 1: but I think you can climb the ladder. And that
- 4:53Speaker 1: just sounded miserable, like spending every college football Saturday. That's
- 4:57Speaker 1: what would get me. I would love doing basketball because
- 5:00Speaker 1: it's basketball season. You don't feel like you're missing everything.
- 5:02Speaker 1: That's right, but I couldn't miss a college football Saturday.
- 5:05Speaker 1: No offense, but if I was stuck doing... Well, I
- 5:08Speaker 1: was about to. I shouldn't name a school, but I will.
- 5:11Speaker 1: If I had to do all of a sudden I'll
- 5:16Speaker 1: say La Tech playing FIU, it'd be nice to be
- 5:20Speaker 1: at the beach in Boca, but Well, I mean, I
- 5:23Speaker 1: would hate to be doing that while Alabama and Tennessee
- 5:26Speaker 1: and Texas and Florida are playing on the other channel.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I went home and talked to Jennifer and I'm like, I'm,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you know, I'll talk to this guy, but we'd be going,
- 5:33Speaker 1: I'd be going every weekend. And then she's like, well,
- 5:35Speaker 1: like where? And I'm like, you know, Monroe, Louisiana, for instance.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And then I started naming all these cities and I'm like, God,
- 5:41Speaker 1: that sounds miserable.
- 5:42Speaker 2: You know, if you want it to be the next
- 5:44Speaker 2: Tom Hart, then that's the path you got to take.
- 5:46Speaker 2: You talked about David Pollack and his journey and to
- 5:48Speaker 2: get into broadcasting, he was taking $ 1, 200 a month. I mean,
- 5:51Speaker 2: if that's what you ultimately want to do, but that
- 5:53Speaker 2: was just going to be kind of a side hustle
- 5:55Speaker 2: for you, and that does seem like a grind. I
- 5:58Speaker 2: love the fact that night 80 gave us an opportunity
- 6:00Speaker 2: to do it. It was a great atmosphere. It was
- 6:01Speaker 2: a lot of fun. Auburn fans should be excited about
- 6:05Speaker 2: the team they've got if Tahad doesn't shoot you out
- 6:07Speaker 2: of games night in, night out.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I did a poor job of expressing my feelings
- 6:14Speaker 1: near the end of that game, but he had 20 points,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and I was like, Florida State won the game, by
- 6:18Speaker 1: the way, if you didn't pay attention. They beat Auburn
- 6:20Speaker 1: last night pretty easily when it was all said and done.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Tahad led all scorers. Pettiford did with 20. And I
- 6:28Speaker 1: was trying to tell Forrester, and I tried to say
- 6:29Speaker 1: it on the broadcast last night, it's like 20 points
- 6:36Speaker 1: in space. It's like it didn't impact the game.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Well, because it took him 18 shots to score 20 points,
- 6:44Speaker 2: and that is an inefficient.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Line right there. That's how Florida State's big ends up
- 6:48Speaker 1: with 21 boards. I'm with Lance. It was like 20 points, yeah,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but they were empty calories. That's what it felt like.
- 6:58Speaker 1: They were empty calories. We'll jump into the state of
- 7:01Speaker 1: Auburn basketball coming up in the second half of our show,
- 7:04Speaker 1: the next round. You can get that if you're watching
- 7:07Speaker 1: us on only the sport and state platforms today. then
- 7:11Speaker 1: you can get that later on, the final two hours
- 7:13Speaker 1: of our show, at Next Round Live on YouTube. Go
- 7:16Speaker 1: like and subscribe over there and all the social platforms
- 7:19Speaker 1: at Next Round Live. And we appreciate thumbs-ups and subscriptions.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That helps us in our little small business that we
- 7:25Speaker 1: have in Birmingham, Alabama. We jump in, though, to what's
- 7:29Speaker 1: going on on a national scale. First with the NFL tonight.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Very interesting dynamic. Seahawks-Broncos, 7-15 on prime. where the Broncos
- 7:41Speaker 1: at Hard Rock Bet I have as a two-and-a-half point
- 7:43Speaker 1: favorite in this game. I've seen it as high as three-and-a-half.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I guess depending on where you're shopping it, hopefully you're
- 7:49Speaker 2: shopping it right there at Hard Rock Bet. But if
- 7:51Speaker 2: they've got it at two-and-a-half, yeah, I have seen it
- 7:54Speaker 2: drop to two-and-a-half now.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So two-and-a-half in a game where, to me, the Broncos offense,
- 8:01Speaker 1: with Sean Payton calling plays again, is still searching for
- 8:05Speaker 1: itself with Bo Nix. Is that offense an offense you
- 8:08Speaker 1: can trust? on any given Sunday or, in this case, Thursday?
- 8:12Speaker 1: Real quick, you said the Broncos are favored 2.5. Seattle's
- 8:14Speaker 1: favored 2.5.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Yeah, Seattle's.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I wrote that down. So Seattle's favored 2.5.
- 8:19Speaker 2: To answer your question, after coming off the win in
- 8:22Speaker 2: SoFi against the Chargers this week, 223 yards of total
- 8:26Speaker 2: offense for this Broncos offense. You saw the Rams shut
- 8:29Speaker 2: them out in a first half a couple of Sunday
- 8:31Speaker 2: nights ago. They were able to come back and win
- 8:33Speaker 2: that game. Pick six really helped that out. Denver is
- 8:37Speaker 2: really good at forcing the turnovers. I will tell you, Seattle,
- 8:41Speaker 2: they've been so uneven as far as turning the football over.
- 8:43Speaker 2: 3-0 when they don't turn it over, and their two losses,
- 8:47Speaker 2: seven turnovers. Four against the Commanders, three this past weekend,
- 8:51Speaker 2: or three against the Commanders, four this past weekend against
- 8:53Speaker 2: the 49ers. When Seattle plays clean football, everything's great. When
- 8:57Speaker 2: they turn it over, like most teams in the NFL,
- 8:59Speaker 2: they have a serious problem. And you've got a new
- 9:01Speaker 2: offensive coordinator in Brian Flory. He's starting to get the
- 9:04Speaker 2: heat Ryan Grubb got a couple of years ago. Because
- 9:07Speaker 2: Seattle ran the ball so effectively last year with Kenneth Walker,
- 9:10Speaker 2: they can't run it right now. Look, Jadarian Price is
- 9:13Speaker 2: already on IR. They don't have the personnel they had
- 9:17Speaker 2: in the past, but they're just not running the football.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And when they don't run the football, it puts a
- 9:20Speaker 1: lot more pressure on Darnold. No Patrick Sertan for Denver, right?
- 9:26Speaker 1: He's out, so that opens.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Up one corner.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Hufanga's out, too, the guy that had the pick six
- 9:30Speaker 2: against the Rams.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's an interesting play tonight. Brownie Seahawks-Broncos tonight.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I mean, when you're a two-and-a-half-point road favorite in the NFL,
- 9:41Speaker 1: you're probably a two-and-a-half-road favorite. 200-point road favorite for a reason.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I think I probably like Seattle in this situation. Broncos
- 9:48Speaker 1: are my play. Are they? I think the interesting thing
- 9:51Speaker 1: on this game, do you guys like Sean Payton? I
- 9:54Speaker 1: do not like Sean Payton. I knew you didn't. Where
- 9:56Speaker 1: are you on Sean Payton? I like Sean Payton. Of
- 9:58Speaker 1: course you do. I've liked him ever since he waved
- 10:02Speaker 1: at me while he was riding a bike down on
- 10:03Speaker 1: 38 one time. That's all it took, huh? Oh, there's
- 10:05Speaker 1: Sean Payton on a bike.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I waved, he waved back. I was like, I like
- 10:08Speaker 2: that guy. He's a pretentious dick. So Lance is not
- 10:12Speaker 2: a fan.
- 10:12Speaker 4: He is.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I mean, I think anybody that knows Sean Payton would
- 10:15Speaker 1: tell you that. So am I. So that's maybe why
- 10:17Speaker 1: I like him. So you would say you hope it
- 10:21Speaker 1: is a complete disaster for Bonex tonight. Nope, not necessarily,
- 10:24Speaker 1: depending on which side I've got. I forgot about that.
- 10:26Speaker 1: If you could remove yourself from that, though, if you
- 10:28Speaker 1: don't like Sean Payton and he takes over play calling,
- 10:31Speaker 1: you're like, I.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Hope it's a total disaster. Yeah, I mean, against, you know,
- 10:34Speaker 2: one of the AFC West rivals. But, I mean, they're playing–
- 10:38Speaker 2: doesn't matter what side I've got tonight, I'm pulling for
- 10:40Speaker 2: Denver because if Seattle loses, they're 3-3.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. You've got too much skin in this game
- 10:45Speaker 1: to answer my question. I know what your point is.
- 10:47Speaker 1: If you don't like Sean Payton, I'm the smartest guy.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I let my guy call plays, and boy, he did
- 10:54Speaker 1: so bad in four games. He's done with it, or
- 10:56Speaker 1: five games, whatever it is. He's done with it. I'm
- 10:58Speaker 1: calling plays now. I'm taking it back over. I gave
- 11:00Speaker 1: him a month to do it. He couldn't get it done.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm taking it back over. You want him to fail
- 11:03Speaker 1: if you don't like him, right? Because you want Sean
- 11:05Speaker 1: Payton to realize, buddy, you're not the genius you think
- 11:09Speaker 1: you are. Now, I happen to think Sean Payton's Can
- 11:13Speaker 1: be an offensive genius at times. Made Drew Brees a
- 11:16Speaker 1: Hall of Famer. Yeah, and if Bo Nix doesn't break
- 11:18Speaker 1: his foot, his ankle, whatever he did in the playoffs
- 11:21Speaker 1: last year, they beat New England in the AFC Championship.
- 11:24Speaker 1: They're in the Super Bowl, yes. They're in the Super Bowl.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They get whipped just like New England did. Probably so.
- 11:29Speaker 1: They're there.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I would have liked Denver's defense a little bit better
- 11:34Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl than I did New England's last year.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I don't know anything about Davis Webb other than the
- 11:39Speaker 1: fact that people think he's going to be an NFL
- 11:41Speaker 1: head coach one day, so he's probably going to be okay.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I just kind of feel bad for him because... I mean,
- 11:47Speaker 1: you try to put yourself in his position to be
- 11:49Speaker 1: an offensive play caller in the NFL. That's a life
- 11:53Speaker 1: ambition for that guy, probably, once he started coaching. And
- 11:55Speaker 1: a path to being a head coach. And a path
- 11:57Speaker 1: to being a head coach. When you're successful, you get it.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And almost everybody to the man, the moment you got it,
- 12:02Speaker 1: is like, yeah, let's see how long that lasts. Not
- 12:04Speaker 1: because they thought he was going to suck, but because
- 12:06Speaker 1: they thought his head coach could never stop calling plays.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and you knew if you're Davis Webb, it's a
- 12:11Speaker 2: great opportunity. But at the same time, you knew more
- 12:14Speaker 2: than likely.
- 12:15Speaker 3: If.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Anything went south... The minute we struggle. Yeah, that's going
- 12:19Speaker 1: to get revoked. Yeah, and I kind of feel bad
- 12:21Speaker 1: for Davis Webb for that. Don't know, Davis Webb could
- 12:24Speaker 1: be just as unlikable as Sean Payton. I have no
- 12:26Speaker 1: earthly idea. But given that opportunity, and it's like you
- 12:29Speaker 1: get a month to do it, and you knew this
- 12:32Speaker 1: was going to happen. Everybody, I mean, it's been a
- 12:34Speaker 1: running joke with us and Brock for two or three weeks,
- 12:36Speaker 1: like how long is Sean Payton not going to call plays?
- 12:38Speaker 1: I mean, everybody knew this was going to happen. So
- 12:41Speaker 1: that's the NFL tonight. Really interesting. I got a pro
- 12:45Speaker 1: football-focused mock draft I may bring up a little bit
- 12:48Speaker 1: later in the show or tomorrow. Interesting. Already looking ahead
- 12:52Speaker 1: to the college seniors and draft-eligible guys into the draft
- 12:56Speaker 1: next year. A little something has happened in the quarterback market.
- 12:59Speaker 1: We'll talk about that at some point today or tomorrow.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Before we get to another amazing thing that's happening in sports,
- 13:05Speaker 1: by the way, Roman Harper, the great Saints Super Bowl champion,
- 13:10Speaker 1: Saints Hall of Famer, Alabama player, will be on our
- 13:13Speaker 1: show in the next segment. Roman will be with us
- 13:15Speaker 1: to talk college football. That's when we'll jump into college football.
- 13:18Speaker 1: But something else is happening in sports, so we've got

- 14:36Speaker 1: move that game up to 12 noon. Is that 12 Eastern?
- 14:41Speaker 1: 11 Central? Check that for me. I've got it right here.
- 14:47Speaker 1: It's 12 Central. 12 Central. 1 Eastern, 12 Central today.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Tampa Bay and Cleveland. Tampa Bay a plus 108 favorite,
- 14:54Speaker 1: so a virtual pick here in a very important Game
- 14:57Speaker 1: 3 series.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Is even 1-1.
- 14:59Speaker 1: The amazing thing that's going on in sports, they play
- 15:03Speaker 1: game four tonight out in Los Angeles, prime time on FS1.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Milwaukee's a plus 130 favorite in this one. And the
- 15:12Speaker 1: Dodgers are down LT three games to zero. The Brewers
- 15:18Speaker 1: went again last night. And we're talking about payroll discrepancy,
- 15:23Speaker 1: Dodgers gap, some other teams gap, and then you eventually
- 15:28Speaker 1: get down to the Brewers and everybody else. What's happening
- 15:31Speaker 1: to the Dodgers going for that rare three-peat is pretty
- 15:34Speaker 1: amazing that they could get swept out of this thing
- 15:37Speaker 1: in the NLCS.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Well, the last time they were down 3-0 in a
- 15:40Speaker 2: seven-game series, a 1966 World Series against.
- 15:42Speaker 1: The Orioles, they got swept out there. Look, they're not
- 15:45Speaker 1: going to win this series.
- 15:46Speaker 2: If there is any team equipped to win a seven-game
- 15:50Speaker 2: series down 0-3, it would be the Dodgers just because
- 15:52Speaker 2: you have so many Cy Youngs, another one that Gave
- 15:55Speaker 2: up back-to-back home runs for the first time in his career.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Tom Green's little brother, Blake Snell. God, he pitched so
- 16:01Speaker 2: well after giving up that leadoff home run all the
- 16:04Speaker 2: way into the seventh. But they do have the front-line starters.
- 16:07Speaker 2: They've obviously got the offense, but it just hasn't been there.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Max Muncy was asked after the game, you know, What's
- 16:12Speaker 2: going on? He was like, well, we're playing like shit,
- 16:14Speaker 2: and they're playing well. I mean, it's pretty obvious, but
- 16:16Speaker 2: the Brewers had the better record. They had the better
- 16:19Speaker 2: season splits against the Dodgers. They're the better team right now.
- 16:23Speaker 2: I mean, there's just no denying it. Baseball's a weird sport.
- 16:26Speaker 2: You guys know this. It seems like every other year
- 16:29Speaker 2: we have a wild card that gets in. They make
- 16:31Speaker 2: this incredible run. They win a World Series, and I
- 16:33Speaker 2: know the Dodgers have done it back-to-back, but the Brewers
- 16:35Speaker 2: are just a better team.
- 16:36Speaker 1: The angriest the Braves fans have ever been at Dunaway.
- 16:39Speaker 1: was that Dodgers come back on Atlanta that was 3-1
- 16:41Speaker 1: though right that wasn't 3-0 that was 3-1 yeah it
- 16:46Speaker 1: was 3-1 okay I'm just trying I mean yeah coming
- 16:49Speaker 1: out of a 3-0 I mean I asked Lance last
- 16:51Speaker 1: night it was after the basketball game we grabbed the
- 16:53Speaker 1: bike to eat after you left and He's like, man,
- 16:56Speaker 1: the Dodgers are going to lose again. I was like,
- 16:57Speaker 1: it's over, right? He's like, oh, it's over. I mean,
- 16:59Speaker 1: you just don't come out of a 3-0.
- 17:01Speaker 3: You can't.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I don't care how good you are.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And I love that everybody will bring up the Red
- 17:05Speaker 2: Sox and the Yankees because it's the one time we've
- 17:06Speaker 2: seen it.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I mean, that's the one time ever, right? Yeah, that's it.
- 17:09Speaker 1: And they do documentaries on that. Yeah, there's a reason
- 17:11Speaker 1: you do a documentary on that because it never happens. Yeah,
- 17:14Speaker 1: and the Brewers.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I mean, baseball is a weird sport, but you can
- 17:17Speaker 2: get a feel on when a team's coming together. And
- 17:20Speaker 2: there's just something magical about this Brewers run. I think
- 17:23Speaker 2: they're going to win the whole thing. I don't think
- 17:24Speaker 2: there's any doubt.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I mean, if you beat the Dodgers, you're the best
- 17:28Speaker 1: team at that point. But, you know, I've said here
- 17:31Speaker 1: with Tampa Bay and they've got to take care of Cleveland.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But my wish was, man, if somebody can knock off
- 17:36Speaker 1: the Dodgers, there's a path there to maybe Tampa Bay
- 17:38Speaker 1: could win the World Series. Do you really want the Brewers?
- 17:40Speaker 1: And now all of a sudden, and to his point,
- 17:42Speaker 1: the Brewers had home field advantage because they had the
- 17:44Speaker 1: best record in the National League. which gave him the
- 17:47Speaker 1: best record in all of baseball over Tampa Bay.
- 17:49Speaker 2: But if you're Dave Roberts, it really is like Tyler
- 17:52Speaker 2: Glass now, a guy that's been in this situation a
- 17:54Speaker 2: million times.
- 17:54Speaker 1: He's on the Hill tonight.
- 17:56Speaker 2: So you get one, and then you get to the weekend,
- 17:59Speaker 2: and maybe you get game five, and then it goes
- 18:02Speaker 2: back to Milwaukee, where I wouldn't be surprised if it
- 18:05Speaker 2: goes back to Milwaukee for game six. Milwaukee's going to
- 18:08Speaker 2: win one of those two games. I don't think there's
- 18:10Speaker 2: any way it gets to a seventh game, but I
- 18:12Speaker 2: wouldn't be surprised if the Dodgers grab these next two.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 2: But I also wouldn't be surprised if Glass now pitches
- 18:18Speaker 2: well tonight. The Dodgers lose 2-1.
- 18:20Speaker 1: They just can't swing it right now. But that's the
- 18:23Speaker 1: way the Red Sox came back is they won one game,
- 18:28Speaker 1: and then they won that second one. Then all of
- 18:29Speaker 1: a sudden, when you're up 3-0, and then all of
- 18:32Speaker 1: a sudden it's 3-2 again, the pressure– is on the
- 18:34Speaker 1: other team at that point. We need to finish it
- 18:36Speaker 1: here in game six because if it goes game seven,
- 18:39Speaker 1: we don't want that to happen. You don't want to
- 18:42Speaker 1: start looking in the mirror like, are we collapsing? You
- 18:44Speaker 1: don't even want that to enter your mind.
- 18:45Speaker 2: It's just wild that the Dodgers can be so good
- 18:48Speaker 2: offensively at certain times. I know Tani's hurt, but he
- 18:51Speaker 2: was one for two, so now he's four of 22.
- 18:54Speaker 1: In this postseason.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Will Smith, who was incredible in the NLCS and World
- 18:59Speaker 2: Series last year, is one of 25 this postseason. I mean,
- 19:02Speaker 2: these are just insane numbers that are going the opposite direction.
- 19:06Speaker 3: For the Dodgers.
- 19:07Speaker 1: All right, a lot of fun things to get to.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Roman Harper in our next segment. Brown is going to
- 19:12Speaker 1: give us in the commercial break six games, and we're
- 19:15Speaker 1: going to rank them confidence level one through six on
- 19:19Speaker 1: picking to win that game. All you got to do
- 19:22Speaker 1: is pick the winner. The one we're most confident at one,
- 19:24Speaker 1: the least confident at six of six of the biggest
- 19:27Speaker 1: games on this massive college football weekend. We'll dry erase
- 19:30Speaker 1: board that here on this Thursday. That's coming up. The
- 19:34Speaker 1: Righteous Gemstones are back. 6-1 week one of the Righteous Gemstones.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Last week, 1-6. That makes you 7-7 on the year.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I've got 10 locks today that I told Brown I
- 19:48Speaker 1: think I can go 10-0 on. okay you know yeah
- 19:51Speaker 1: that's right you know these aren't just winners these are
- 19:54Speaker 1: uh you know yardage and things like that seems very
- 19:57Speaker 1: probable so seven and seven I'll fire some stat-based winners
- 20:03Speaker 1: coming up. And how did you come up with your
- 20:05Speaker 1: prop numbers? Well, that's the problem. If I used real
- 20:08Speaker 1: prop numbers, I think I'd be almost perfect. I'd throw
- 20:12Speaker 1: out some outrageous numbers. I will just give a tip
- 20:14Speaker 1: to everybody out there listening. When he throws his numbers out.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 20:17Speaker 2: What you do is write down what he likes and
- 20:19Speaker 2: then wait until the actual number comes out on these
- 20:21Speaker 2: props to see how far off he is.
- 20:23Speaker 1: That's true. That's a good way to play that. I'm
- 20:25Speaker 1: just saying I'm good up until a certain point is
- 20:28Speaker 1: what I like to say. So a quick break here.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Roman Harper on the other side. It's the next round
- 20:32Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sport and State. Here's
- 20:35Speaker 1: my favorite thing. When I was young, there was this
- 20:39Speaker 1: thing called radio, and they used to play music on radio.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And you could have a DJ call up, and they'd
- 20:45Speaker 1: play your favorite song. right before you could have your
- 20:47Speaker 1: favorite song on your phone. That's right. And I told
- 20:50Speaker 1: Brown earlier this week, I was like, man, we hadn't
- 20:53Speaker 1: had Roman Harper on. I want Roman Harper on. And
- 20:56Speaker 1: it was like total request live. You got Roman Harper
- 21:00Speaker 1: on for me, and I appreciate it. Yeah, this one
- 21:02Speaker 1: goes out to Jim in Alabaster, Alabama. Roman Harper with us.
- 21:06Speaker 1: What's up, Harp?
- 21:06Speaker 4: How are you? What's up? I appreciate the radio voice
- 21:11Speaker 4: right there.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:12Speaker 4: I appreciate that.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I can throw that on. How you been, man? Everything good?
- 21:17Speaker 4: Everything's been good.
- 21:19Speaker 5: Just dad my ass off over here. The grind don't stop.
- 21:24Speaker 5: Whenever I'm not on TV, I'm just grinding over here.
- 21:27Speaker 5: So yeah, but it's been good though, man. I've really
- 21:32Speaker 5: enjoyed this season so far. A new cast on SEC Nation,
- 21:36Speaker 5: but the vibes have been high. The guys have been really,
- 21:40Speaker 5: really good and it's been fun. It's been energetic and
- 21:43Speaker 5: The crowds have been really good so far as well.
- 21:45Speaker 4: So and we're just talking ball. So it's been good.
- 21:48Speaker 1: What's what's the kids ages now? All your kids.
- 21:52Speaker 5: My daughters are 14 and 12, 14 year old. She's
- 21:56Speaker 5: still just so loving and so nice and so sweet.
- 21:59Speaker 5: Boys are starting to become a situation, but she's not
- 22:02Speaker 5: really that interested.
- 22:03Speaker 4: But they're definitely interested. So, you know.
- 22:06Speaker 5: You know, it's like Martin Lawrence, Will Smith all over
- 22:09Speaker 5: again in Bad Boys. You know, it's like, you know
- 22:11Speaker 5: what I mean? It's like, bro, it's a thing. My 12-year-old,
- 22:14Speaker 5: she's doing great. She's probably my best athlete, even though
- 22:18Speaker 5: her care factor is kind of low. And all of
- 22:23Speaker 5: a sudden, she's also the tallest woman in the house, too.
- 22:25Speaker 4: So that became a thing this year, too.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Wow.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 22:30Speaker 5: And then my sons are 10 and 6, and my oldest,
- 22:35Speaker 5: he's ball all the time.
- 22:36Speaker 4: He's 100%. He's all boy all the time.
- 22:40Speaker 5: He doesn't really think a lot, which is kind of bad,
- 22:42Speaker 5: but it's kind of like, kind of comes with the territory.
- 22:45Speaker 4: And it's not like boys are dumb.
- 22:49Speaker 5: They just make whatever the easiest answer is. They just like, oh,
- 22:53Speaker 5: I didn't think about B or C. It was just like,
- 22:55Speaker 5: A showed up. It was like, dude, I'm doing A.
- 22:57Speaker 4: That's just what it is. And it's consistent. I'm kind
- 23:03Speaker 4: of the same way. I look up and I'm like, yeah,
- 23:05Speaker 4: I kind of get that.
- 23:07Speaker 1: We've been doing that since the caveman, man. I'll just
- 23:10Speaker 1: live in this hole right here.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I'm cool.
- 23:15Speaker 4: I don't think I need to upgrade until my wife
- 23:17Speaker 4: is like, dude, what are we doing? I like this.
- 23:22Speaker 4: I like the cave.
- 23:23Speaker 1: That's right.
- 23:23Speaker 4: No, I don't like the cave.
- 23:26Speaker 1: So, Harp, I know you've got to be excited about
- 23:29Speaker 1: your Tide.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I know they're coming off a loss, but they're 5-1,
- 23:32Speaker 2: and they look to be one of the maybe elite
- 23:34Speaker 2: teams in college football. We were talking about this secondary
- 23:37Speaker 2: in the past defense, and it's kind of interesting because
- 23:39Speaker 2: they're 12th in the SEC right now. and they're giving
- 23:42Speaker 2: up 236-plus yards per game through the air, but they're
- 23:47Speaker 2: forcing turnovers, nine interceptions, four pick sixes. Where are you
- 23:50Speaker 2: right now on the secondary that's had a couple of
- 23:52Speaker 2: miscues here and there, but they still have a ton
- 23:55Speaker 2: of talent?
- 23:56Speaker 4: You know, talent's not an issue.
- 23:58Speaker 5: Talent's not an issue at a lot of schools.
- 24:00Speaker 4: And I also wouldn't use the word excited.
- 24:03Speaker 5: I think this past Saturday was a great opportunity for
- 24:06Speaker 5: this Alabama team as far as, like, like a measuring stick.
- 24:11Speaker 5: Whether you win or lose the game, you could still
- 24:14Speaker 5: end up out of the playoffs regardless.
- 24:16Speaker 4: But it was a good performance overall.
- 24:19Speaker 5: And if I charted 68 plays for this Alabama defense,
- 24:23Speaker 5: I think 59 of them were damn good.
- 24:26Speaker 4: The effort was there.
- 24:27Speaker 5: The run fits, the intensity, like winning football, 59 plays.
- 24:32Speaker 5: But those other nine plays, you got to find ways
- 24:34Speaker 5: to fit runs better. You've got to be able to
- 24:36Speaker 5: get off blocks. We got to not overrun a wide receiver,
- 24:39Speaker 5: Bray Hubbard, and give up a big explosive play right
- 24:42Speaker 5: down the middle of the field early on in that game.
- 24:45Speaker 5: It's those plays that continue to hinder this secondary and
- 24:49Speaker 5: this defense from being all that they can be. I
- 24:53Speaker 5: would also say a couple times Gunnar Stockton just looked
- 24:55Speaker 5: up and said, where's Dijon Lee at? I'm throwing it
- 24:57Speaker 5: his way because he's either going to PI the wide receiver,
- 25:00Speaker 5: or I think I got a chance on a one-on-one
- 25:02Speaker 5: pass play. And so understanding that if you're Dijon Lee,
- 25:07Speaker 5: he was in great position on both of them. He's
- 25:09Speaker 5: just got to not panic on one of the pass
- 25:11Speaker 5: interference and the other one. He looks back shoulder when
- 25:14Speaker 5: all the tendencies of the wide receiver telling you that
- 25:16Speaker 5: it's over the top. And so you got to play
- 25:19Speaker 5: your technique all the way through and through. And I'm
- 25:21Speaker 5: telling you right now, until you fix the leak, people
- 25:24Speaker 5: are going to continue to try and do it. And
- 25:26Speaker 5: so he has to be able to stand up and
- 25:28Speaker 5: make these plays and say, I'm good enough to be here.
- 25:31Speaker 5: believe in himself and go make the plays. I think
- 25:33Speaker 5: that's what it's all about. And you got to give
- 25:34Speaker 5: Georgia and Gunner Stockton and that receiving group and not
- 25:38Speaker 5: just receivers, but.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Tight ends as well.
- 25:40Speaker 5: They made every tough catch in that game in one-on-one situations.
- 25:45Speaker 5: They deserve a lot of credit for that because they
- 25:46Speaker 5: own scholarship too.
- 25:48Speaker 4: And so.
- 25:50Speaker 5: Tough throws under tough duress and tough, tight windows.
- 25:54Speaker 4: They made them.
- 25:55Speaker 5: They made every single one of those plays. And so
- 25:57Speaker 5: if you're Alabama, you got to find a way to
- 25:59Speaker 5: make some.
- 25:59Speaker 4: Of those plays.
- 26:00Speaker 5: And the next time, if you have to match up
- 26:02Speaker 5: with a team. of Georgia's stature. And ultimately, that's what
- 26:05Speaker 5: the game came down to. Oh, and besides the play
- 26:08Speaker 5: we're not supposed.
- 26:09Speaker 4: To talk about, right? Because we're not penalty vultures over here.
- 26:11Speaker 5: So, you can't talk about that play like it didn't
- 26:14Speaker 5: affect the end of the game.
- 26:15Speaker 4: But, you know, other than that, it was a great game.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And I agree with you on that. The Dijon Lee
- 26:22Speaker 1: thing and... The penalty at the end will never happen again.
- 26:25Speaker 1: So I never think about that. But the actual playing
- 26:28Speaker 1: of the position, I love the way you talked about that.
- 26:31Speaker 1: If I remember correctly, Terry and Arnold was that guy
- 26:35Speaker 1: at one point in his career that they targeted and
- 26:38Speaker 1: then he grew into a first round draft pick. So
- 26:40Speaker 1: how does that transition happen for Dijon? Is it a
- 26:45Speaker 1: growth thing? Is it a rep thing? What happens to
- 26:48Speaker 1: where you're the target one year and by the time
- 26:50Speaker 1: you're leaving Alabama, you're a first round draft pick? How
- 26:53Speaker 1: does that transformation happen?
- 26:56Speaker 4: It's all of those things. It's growth. It's trial and error.
- 26:59Speaker 5: It's messing up a lot and learning from your mistakes, ultimately. Like,
- 27:04Speaker 5: the reason why I was able to play football for
- 27:06Speaker 5: as long as I was because I messed up a lot,
- 27:09Speaker 5: but I wasn't a repeat offender. Like, if you beat
- 27:12Speaker 5: me on something once, you had to beat me on
- 27:13Speaker 5: something else the next time. Like, that's constantly evolving, changing
- 27:17Speaker 5: your game, learning what teams are doing against you. And
- 27:20Speaker 5: so I can counteract that. And so here we go.
- 27:23Speaker 5: I'm going a little quick teaching lesson. And so what
- 27:25Speaker 5: do I mean by, you know, he's looking back shoulder
- 27:27Speaker 5: versus over the top. And so when you're covering guys
- 27:30Speaker 5: in one on one situations and I'm in phase, which
- 27:33Speaker 5: means I can reach out and touch it with my hand.
- 27:35Speaker 5: That means I can play the ball now. If I'm
- 27:37Speaker 5: out of phase and I can't touch him, I just
- 27:38Speaker 5: got to get in phase.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:40Speaker 5: I'm just running to get in phase. He was in
- 27:42Speaker 5: phase in every single one of these plays, which means
- 27:44Speaker 5: he can touch the receiver. So now you're allowed to
- 27:47Speaker 5: play the ball. Well, what indicators give you to where
- 27:49Speaker 5: you can play the ball?
- 27:51Speaker 4: It's hands.
- 27:51Speaker 5: If a wide receiver shows you his hands, play the hands.
- 27:54Speaker 5: Like that's the first indicator, hands. If his hands show,
- 27:57Speaker 5: play the hands.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Next one is his eyes.
- 28:00Speaker 5: For you who have not been in that position, you're
- 28:01Speaker 5: 40 yards down the field. You're looking at the wide receiver,
- 28:04Speaker 5: his eyes start to get big. That means the ball's coming. Like,
- 28:08Speaker 5: it just happens. Your eyes start to get big. So
- 28:11Speaker 5: now you're ready.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Okay. His eyes are telling me the ball is coming.
- 28:15Speaker 5: And then the last one is the V of the net,
- 28:17Speaker 5: which means if I'm looking this way, the ball's coming
- 28:20Speaker 5: from this angle.
- 28:21Speaker 4: If I look this way, the ball's coming back shoulder.
- 28:24Speaker 5: So it's a difference between when the V of the
- 28:27Speaker 5: neck's telling you back shoulder, where I got to play here,
- 28:29Speaker 5: or it's coming over the top.
- 28:31Speaker 4: And now I got to be ready to play the
- 28:32Speaker 4: ball over the top as well.
- 28:34Speaker 5: And so the one that he made the catch on,
- 28:36Speaker 5: the wide receiver made the catch on, was Dijon Lee
- 28:38Speaker 5: was in great position.
- 28:39Speaker 4: He turned it like it was going back shoulder when.
- 28:42Speaker 5: The wide receiver's clearly telling you it's coming over the
- 28:45Speaker 5: top because of the V of his neck. And so, like,
- 28:47Speaker 5: these are the little things that I'm like, ah, it's like, you.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Got to trust yourself. Don't panic.
- 28:53Speaker 5: Just what are we teaching you and use those techniques.
- 28:56Speaker 5: And you got to trust it. And ultimately, you can't
- 28:59Speaker 5: be afraid of the blind spot, which is just like
- 29:01Speaker 5: sometimes you lose a receiver and you just got to
- 29:03Speaker 5: play the tendencies. And it's OK. Like all of these
- 29:05Speaker 5: things happen. And so that's what I mean by that.
- 29:09Speaker 5: Like if he just does those things, you're going to
- 29:11Speaker 5: knock one of these passes down. Then they're not going
- 29:13Speaker 5: to throw it at you next time.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Dude, you can read eyeballs and V's of necks and
- 29:18Speaker 1: run at the same time. That's amazing. You got to
- 29:20Speaker 1: have that. And we go backwards.
- 29:22Speaker 4: And we go backwards.
- 29:23Speaker 1: That's amazing, man.
- 29:24Speaker 4: So it's like, yes.
- 29:25Speaker 5: But these are the little intricate details. I'm telling you,
- 29:29Speaker 5: when you're playing for as long as I was able to,
- 29:31Speaker 5: when you're running with guys, the ball placement in the
- 29:34Speaker 5: NFL is so good. You have to have like, these
- 29:37Speaker 5: little details. Because how am I gonna know when the
- 29:39Speaker 5: dude's going back shoulder versus over the top? It's like, oh, well,
- 29:43Speaker 5: you look at how his body, what his body language
- 29:45Speaker 5: telling you.
- 29:45Speaker 4: If the eyes start to get big, oh, no, the
- 29:47Speaker 4: ball's coming. So what do I need to do?
- 29:50Speaker 5: And I don't need to panic and grab him, because
- 29:52Speaker 5: you can't touch anybody in the NFL after five yards.
- 29:55Speaker 5: So you read the eyes and the V of the neck. Like,
- 29:57Speaker 5: all those things is like, oh... That's how you know
- 30:00Speaker 5: it's going back shoulder because his head told you. So
- 30:02Speaker 5: you play it here versus it's going here. So now
- 30:05Speaker 5: I need to be ready to play the hands.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Over the top.
- 30:07Speaker 5: It's simple to me, but I understand where you guys
- 30:11Speaker 5: are coming from.
- 30:12Speaker 1: You see Roman Harper on the SEC Network and ESPN.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Let me ask you, when a player takes a chewing
- 30:19Speaker 1: like that, like he did and all national TV saw it,
- 30:22Speaker 1: but sometimes the TVs don't see it, right? When a
- 30:24Speaker 1: player takes a chewing like that, once the emotions have settled,
- 30:27Speaker 1: what is that meeting like? next time with the head
- 30:31Speaker 1: coach or the defensive coordinator or whoever it is emotions
- 30:33Speaker 1: are aside now we got to move forward what's that
- 30:36Speaker 1: first discussion like you think.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Uh i hope it's you know calm at the end
- 30:41Speaker 5: of the day understanding like it's the biggest thing is
- 30:45Speaker 5: is out of all most of my leaders like i
- 30:47Speaker 5: don't want to and i hope the board i know
- 30:50Speaker 5: the board he'd probably say this is like he's not
- 30:52Speaker 5: here to attack people i'm here to attack problems And
- 30:55Speaker 5: so the penalty is a problem. I don't care who
- 30:57Speaker 5: did it. You just happened to do it this time.
- 31:00Speaker 5: But I got to attack the problem, make sure it
- 31:01Speaker 5: does not happen again. Like, that is what we're here
- 31:04Speaker 5: to do. And that's winning football. Like, the penalty is terrible.
- 31:09Speaker 5: The timing of it, even worse. And so I'm yelling
- 31:13Speaker 5: because the ferocity and... the urgency of the moment must
- 31:19Speaker 5: be met by the right emotions.
- 31:20Speaker 4: And so I thought that part was correct.
- 31:23Speaker 5: And so, you know, I understand Dijon Lee is defeated
- 31:26Speaker 5: right there, was kind of walking off, doesn't want to
- 31:28Speaker 5: hear anything. But ultimately, you got to sit there and
- 31:31Speaker 5: you got to take that chewing. And then you got
- 31:33Speaker 5: to come back and say, guys, I messed that up. Like,
- 31:36Speaker 5: I cost us an opportunity, which I think the game
- 31:38Speaker 5: was still over.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I agree. I agree.
- 31:40Speaker 4: Yeah, the game, like, it's not, that play didn't cost
- 31:44Speaker 4: the team. It did not.
- 31:46Speaker 5: But is it a play or an opportunity where now
- 31:48Speaker 5: we can sit up and say, hey, these are something
- 31:51Speaker 5: that we can improve on and we can get better at.
- 31:55Speaker 5: And if we do these things, guys, this is what's
- 31:58Speaker 5: holding us back. We got to get these things cleaned up.
- 32:00Speaker 5: That's one of those nine plays that I'm talking about.
- 32:03Speaker 5: And so that's all you can do. And so I
- 32:09Speaker 5: think it was totally fine. And I applaud HaHa, Clint
- 32:12Speaker 5: Dix for understanding it too. And like, hey, dude, coach
- 32:14Speaker 5: is addressing, just sit here for a second, take the
- 32:17Speaker 5: butt chew and then move on. Like, you know what
- 32:19Speaker 5: I mean? Just like do that and move on. It's
- 32:20Speaker 5: four seconds of your life.
- 32:21Speaker 1: You know, like HaHa had gotten them from the best
- 32:23Speaker 1: butt chewer in the history of football. So like, he
- 32:27Speaker 1: knew like, this is pretty mild, son. You just sit
- 32:29Speaker 1: here and get this one.
- 32:29Speaker 4: Yeah, dude, it's fine. It's four seconds, dude. Sit here. Uh-huh, uh-huh. Okay. Yes, sir.
- 32:34Speaker 4: And just go on.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:35Speaker 4: It's nothing like that. Coach just.
- 32:38Speaker 5: He's got to go on to the next play, bro.
- 32:39Speaker 4: He ain't got time to chase you down the sideline.
- 32:41Speaker 4: He's on to the next one. So, it's okay.
- 32:45Speaker 5: And, you know, ultimately, like I said, Dijon Lee, who
- 32:48Speaker 5: I thought had struggled early in this year with confidence,
- 32:52Speaker 5: and all of a sudden now... working his way back
- 32:56Speaker 5: to where he is. I think he's just got to
- 32:58Speaker 5: keep playing, man. Just keep playing and everything will be
- 33:02Speaker 5: just fine.
- 33:02Speaker 2: We want to get into some of these games, the
- 33:04Speaker 2: other games with you, but I want to talk about
- 33:05Speaker 2: the Alabama program as a whole. We're all watching the
- 33:07Speaker 2: Saban doc. I'm through four episodes. I think Brown's through four.
- 33:10Speaker 2: I think Dunaway's through three. I don't know if you've
- 33:12Speaker 2: seen any of it, Harp.
- 33:14Speaker 3: I haven't.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Okay.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Well, you know, it is about a lot of different
- 33:18Speaker 2: things with Saban, obviously, but it shows how he built
- 33:21Speaker 2: the LSU program and how he built the Alabama program.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Where Kalen DeBoer is in year three, there is no
- 33:26Speaker 2: denying from year one to year two, there was growth.
- 33:28Speaker 2: From year two to year three, it looks like serious growth.
- 33:32Speaker 2: And such a difficult transition coming off the greatest ever
- 33:35Speaker 2: do it, going from Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer. But
- 33:38Speaker 2: right now, how different is the internal culture? And is
- 33:43Speaker 2: it 100% DeBoer's program finally in year three?
- 33:47Speaker 4: I think so.
- 33:49Speaker 5: But I think ultimately, it's still Alabama. So, like, you
- 33:53Speaker 5: have to live with that. Like, it doesn't matter the traditions. Like,
- 33:57Speaker 5: I'll never forget, Alabama hadn't won a national championship since
- 34:00Speaker 5: 92 when they were recruiting me.
- 34:02Speaker 4: But when we go there on.
- 34:04Speaker 5: Campus, my dad, when I left, he was like, I
- 34:07Speaker 5: don't know how you gonna turn this down.
- 34:08Speaker 4: It's a lot of tradition. It's a lot of pageantry.
- 34:10Speaker 4: It's just.
- 34:11Speaker 5: It still feels different and it still feels bigger than
- 34:13Speaker 5: what it is because it's still Alabama. You still have
- 34:16Speaker 5: to live up to that standard. And so that part
- 34:20Speaker 5: will forever be there. I think it was the perfect
- 34:22Speaker 5: marriage to get Nick Saban to come there at the
- 34:24Speaker 5: right time, as desperate as Alabama was, to get something
- 34:27Speaker 5: right as far as football was and giving him all
- 34:29Speaker 5: the resources. And then he's able to recruit at the
- 34:32Speaker 5: high clip he was. He gets that one recruiting class
- 34:34Speaker 5: with Julio, Mark Ingram, Mark Barron, all those guys that
- 34:37Speaker 5: are now funneling in. And then, boom, you got magic there.
- 34:40Speaker 5: You know, you got to hit some things right. And ultimately,
- 34:44Speaker 5: I do feel like this is Kalen's team. And everything
- 34:47Speaker 5: that they built up to this point, it's kind of
- 34:49Speaker 5: led to this. And they got their quarterback. They got
- 34:52Speaker 5: their players. It's a good team right now. Really, really
- 34:57Speaker 5: good team with a lot of potential.
- 34:59Speaker 1: After Georgia and Alabama, who's really good in the SEC? Like,
- 35:03Speaker 1: for a moment, I thought, man, this Florida team's going
- 35:05Speaker 1: to look good.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I thought Texas for a second.
- 35:08Speaker 5: Well, Florida, Florida can only win on their terms, right?
- 35:11Speaker 5: Where they're up, they're running the football. It's on their
- 35:14Speaker 5: terms without VB three, total different operation offensively and defensively.
- 35:18Speaker 5: They've kind of been exposed that they haven't been that great.
- 35:21Speaker 5: They've just been able to play with the lead all year.
- 35:23Speaker 5: So like that helps.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Them, uh, Texas.
- 35:25Speaker 5: I think Texas has somewhat been underwhelming all year long,
- 35:29Speaker 5: especially on the offensive side of the football. Um, and
- 35:32Speaker 5: I also believe, and I, and I, I say this
- 35:34Speaker 5: with all due respect because I think he could win
- 35:37Speaker 5: a national championship there, but Steve Sarkeesian is a lot
- 35:40Speaker 5: like Ryan day, right? It's like in these big games,
- 35:43Speaker 5: these big moments, sometimes things happen. You're like, what was
- 35:46Speaker 5: that coach? Uh, Ryan day's got a national championship. I
- 35:49Speaker 5: think Steve Sarkeesian could win one at Texas, but that
- 35:51Speaker 5: doesn't mean they're not the same. Like they will blow
- 35:54Speaker 5: a lead or something will happen in these games where
- 35:56Speaker 5: you just, you just don't understand it. Um, So I
- 36:00Speaker 5: think Missouri, in my honest opinion, as crazy as that.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Sounds, Missouri is my....
- 36:08Speaker 5: 3A, 3B, the third to fourth best team out there, Missouri.
- 36:13Speaker 5: And that's because of the way they play football. Defensively,
- 36:16Speaker 5: they're better than what everybody anticipated. Eli Drinkwitz knew he
- 36:20Speaker 5: had a good salty front up front. They've been really
- 36:22Speaker 5: good up there in what they've been doing that front
- 36:25Speaker 5: on the defensive line. And then offensively, still been able
- 36:28Speaker 5: to run the football with Jamal Roberts in this zone
- 36:31Speaker 5: run scheme where Coach Shanahan, for years ran wreck shop
- 36:36Speaker 5: in the NFL with three or four different thousand yard
- 36:38Speaker 5: running backs in.
- 36:39Speaker 4: Denver because of the zone run scheme. It's the scheme.
- 36:43Speaker 5: They do it extremely well down there in Missouri, up
- 36:45Speaker 5: in Missouri as well. But this year is different because
- 36:47Speaker 5: they got the quarterback in Austin Simmons. that is throwing
- 36:50Speaker 5: the football all over the ballpark. Missouri's a pass-first team,
- 36:54Speaker 5: so teams and defenses adjust, so they spread them out
- 36:57Speaker 5: to then be able to run it, and it takes
- 36:59Speaker 5: more guys out of the box, and it's allowing Jamal
- 37:01Speaker 5: Roberts to have a really big year.
- 37:03Speaker 1: The problem for Missouri is, and I don't disagree with you,
- 37:05Speaker 1: I think they're obviously really good, but this is life
- 37:08Speaker 1: in the SEC. They have absolutely got their hands full
- 37:11Speaker 1: Saturday and could take their second conference loss at Ole Miss.
- 37:14Speaker 1: I mean, that's just life in the SEC. I mean,
- 37:16Speaker 1: they could be out of this thing by Saturday. Yeah,
- 37:19Speaker 1: and not only that, but Ole Miss could be out
- 37:21Speaker 1: of it, too. That's right.
- 37:22Speaker 4: Because Ole Miss plays no.
- 37:24Speaker 5: All right, so Ole Miss was worst defense in a
- 37:28Speaker 5: whole bunch of categories. They played Vanderbilt. They got to, like, 12, okay?
- 37:32Speaker 5: So they moved up a little bit. If Missouri's able
- 37:35Speaker 5: to play this game on their terms and stop Kiwan Lacy,
- 37:40Speaker 5: make Ole Miss one-dimensional, if.
- 37:41Speaker 4: They take care of the football... Missouri could be a
- 37:45Speaker 4: lot of problems for Ole Miss.
- 37:46Speaker 5: Just the way that Missouri plays, like their style, could
- 37:49Speaker 5: be a big problem for Ole Miss. So that's going
- 37:52Speaker 5: to be a dynamite matchup as well. And Ole Miss
- 37:55Speaker 5: is really good. And this may be the first game
- 37:58Speaker 5: if Ole Miss loses, people at Ole Miss are going
- 38:02Speaker 5: to be questioning is Pete Golding as well. So this
- 38:04Speaker 5: would be a great test for not only Ole Miss,
- 38:06Speaker 5: but for Pete Golding, his coaching style.
- 38:08Speaker 2: You've got to love the Will Stein attitude. I mean,
- 38:10Speaker 2: they're 15th right now nationally. The one lost to Alabama.
- 38:13Speaker 2: They played a really bad second half. Alabama dominated in Lexington.
- 38:17Speaker 2: The wins now don't look as great for Kentucky, and
- 38:20Speaker 2: Will Stein said as much at his press conference. But
- 38:22Speaker 2: just the attitude of this team, believing week in, week out.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Right now, where are you on Kentucky in year one
- 38:27Speaker 2: under Stein?
- 38:30Speaker 4: Look, confidence is real, you know?
- 38:33Speaker 5: It's something to be said about a guy that runs
- 38:35Speaker 5: a four or five, but believes he runs a four
- 38:38Speaker 5: or three. That means he's probably going to run closer
- 38:40Speaker 5: to a four, four. And so that's what Kentucky is
- 38:43Speaker 5: right now. I was also shout out me because I
- 38:45Speaker 5: was the only one that picked him in all of
- 38:47Speaker 5: ESPN last week. So just want to, you know, I
- 38:50Speaker 5: like being right. So shout out to them as well.
- 38:53Speaker 5: And it's something about feeling a bit disrespected as well.
- 38:58Speaker 5: I mean, you go on the road, you still won
- 39:00Speaker 5: at South Carolina and you fall out of the top 25.
- 39:02Speaker 5: I think motivation was a big factor last week versus LSU.
- 39:06Speaker 5: And LSU, you can't just throw the ball out there
- 39:08Speaker 5: and think, oh, we're just going to show up and
- 39:10Speaker 5: beat teams. You're not better than everybody, especially in year
- 39:13Speaker 5: one of putting together this operation where You paid a
- 39:16Speaker 5: lot of money, everybody's told you how talented you are,
- 39:19Speaker 5: but you're missing Trey Des Green, you're missing Wick Weeks
- 39:21Speaker 5: on defense, really big players, and the depth is not there.
- 39:25Speaker 5: And your quarterback continues to find and create ways to
- 39:28Speaker 5: turn the football over.
- 39:29Speaker 4: That's going to keep a lot of teams in games.
- 39:32Speaker 4: And it's just a really good way.
- 39:34Speaker 5: And I applaud Kentucky because they continue to fight for
- 39:37Speaker 5: this coach. And they are finding creative ways. And Kenny Mintz,
- 39:40Speaker 5: he's a smart quarterback. And he's not turning the ball over.
- 39:44Speaker 1: I have said this for a long time. Since we're
- 39:45Speaker 1: talking about Will Stein, it's applicable here. If I've got
- 39:48Speaker 1: the ball second in the first overtime, I'm going for
- 39:51Speaker 1: two every single time. Because in the next overtime, Harp,
- 39:54Speaker 1: you've got to run your best two-point play. Why not
- 39:56Speaker 1: do it when I can walk off? At what point
- 39:59Speaker 1: do you think you'll see coaches that get the ball
- 40:01Speaker 1: first start going for two? Like, not even risk it. Like,
- 40:04Speaker 1: I can't kick the extra point. Never do you think
- 40:06Speaker 1: they'll always kick the point.
- 40:07Speaker 5: No, it's just not in the coach's manual to do it. Like,
- 40:10Speaker 5: unless you're the most secure coach of all time and
- 40:12Speaker 5: you're ready to, like, If anybody questions anything, you're going to, like,
- 40:16Speaker 5: cuss them out and tell them to go F off.
- 40:18Speaker 5: They don't know what they're talking about. If you're ready
- 40:20Speaker 5: to be that guy, then you do it first.
- 40:23Speaker 4: But ultimately, you don't. And the funny thing is, we
- 40:26Speaker 4: talked to Will Stein this.
- 40:27Speaker 5: Week on Read Rack, Cole Kublik and I did.
- 40:29Speaker 4: And that wasn't even a quarterback draw. It was not
- 40:31Speaker 4: even a call.
- 40:32Speaker 5: Like, it was actually option right, like stick odds, like
- 40:36Speaker 5: a stick nod option concept on the right. And Kenny
- 40:40Speaker 5: Menchie got out there and they spread them out. and
- 40:42Speaker 5: there was nobody in the paint. So he just took
- 40:45Speaker 5: the ball, the rush came, and then he just took
- 40:47Speaker 5: off running. It was all the quarterback. He was like, dude,
- 40:49Speaker 5: that was not the call. But, you know, when you're
- 40:52Speaker 5: living right, you know.
- 40:54Speaker 1: It looked like the call. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it
- 40:57Speaker 1: was the Red Sea.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Yeah, you're over talking about perfect call. I was like, dude,
- 41:01Speaker 4: that was not even the call. That was not even
- 41:03Speaker 4: the call. So sometimes, man, when you're.
- 41:06Speaker 5: Living right and things just are happening for you, like
- 41:09Speaker 5: I said, when you're hot, You know, I've been on
- 41:13Speaker 5: two teams in the NFL. One was 13-0. The other
- 41:15Speaker 5: one started 14-0. And in between those 13 games, dude,
- 41:20Speaker 5: you win a couple games. We're like, there was no
- 41:22Speaker 5: way you're supposed to win it. We're at Washington. We're
- 41:24Speaker 5: supposed to lose. They missed a 27-yard kick. We come down, score. Like, boom,
- 41:28Speaker 5: we win a game. And when you win games, like,
- 41:31Speaker 5: that you're not supposed to win, dude, you're going to
- 41:33Speaker 5: win another game later on in the season that you, like,
- 41:36Speaker 5: Because you just have this ultimate belief like we got it.
- 41:39Speaker 5: Like we're going to turn the ship around. That's what happens.
- 41:43Speaker 5: And that's what I see out of this Kentucky team,
- 41:45Speaker 5: even this weekend.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Well, we were talking about Sean Payton earlier. You obviously
- 41:49Speaker 2: played for him. You got a ring with him with
- 41:51Speaker 2: the Saints back in the day. We were talking about
- 41:54Speaker 2: this situation with Davis Webb calling plays for the Broncos.
- 41:57Speaker 2: He's taking that back over. I mean, is he one
- 42:00Speaker 2: of the most controlling coaches you've ever played for?
- 42:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:04Speaker 5: No, his offense stinks, and he's a talented caller, play caller.
- 42:09Speaker 5: They're struggling right now. And you know what? Sean has ego,
- 42:14Speaker 5: all right? Sean has ego. And I can totally see Sean,
- 42:18Speaker 5: you know, his teams are struggling. Last week when they're
- 42:20Speaker 5: playing the 49ers and that linebacker cusses him out after
- 42:24Speaker 5: the game and his offense can't score.
- 42:26Speaker 4: Sean's probably like, you know what? Like, F this, bro.
- 42:29Speaker 5: Like, if I'm calling plays, I know I could get 20,
- 42:32Speaker 5: you know? And so I think that plays a role
- 42:36Speaker 5: in it. And ultimately, the only reason Davis Webb is
- 42:38Speaker 5: calling plays is because somebody else wanted him to be
- 42:41Speaker 5: an OC. And Sean said, you know what? I'll let
- 42:43Speaker 5: you call plays here. And it hasn't worked well. And
- 42:48Speaker 5: so he just did it just to appease so he
- 42:50Speaker 5: would get him to stay because he likes him and
- 42:52Speaker 5: he wants him to.
- 42:53Speaker 4: He thinks he's a good coach. But, you know, if...
- 42:56Speaker 4: You know, if it's not doing the job well and, like,
- 42:59Speaker 4: you only get.
- 42:59Speaker 5: One season and the team changes and he knows if
- 43:01Speaker 5: you don't win, somebody's going to get fired because that's
- 43:04Speaker 5: how the NFL rolls. It may not be Sean, but
- 43:06Speaker 5: something has to change and shift up. And so you
- 43:10Speaker 5: got to try and give it your best effort.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Was that everything you wanted it to be? That's it, man.
- 43:14Speaker 3: Great.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, the eyeball v-neck, man. I'm going to
- 43:18Speaker 1: go home and practice that. You're going to go practice?
- 43:22Speaker 4: I mean, sorry, I can teach you out of phase,
- 43:25Speaker 4: in phase.
- 43:26Speaker 1: No.
- 43:27Speaker 5: And I try not to use too much football terms
- 43:29Speaker 5: because I can get really deep on some of this stuff.
- 43:32Speaker 5: You know, this is what happens when you're my son, right?
- 43:34Speaker 5: You get to hear all of this when you're like.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Hey, I'm like, dude, you're not playing the hands. Yeah,
- 43:38Speaker 1: our audience will eat that up. They'll eat that up.
- 43:40Speaker 1: That explanation, they'll eat it up.
- 43:42Speaker 2: And just one more, because you respect really good receivers.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Is Jeremiah Smith the best college receiver we've ever seen?
- 43:49Speaker 5: Uh, yes, he'll have to win the Heisman this year
- 43:52Speaker 5: to be totally like secure that.
- 43:54Speaker 4: But yes, I think he's the complete cheat code.
- 43:56Speaker 5: I don't even know how good Ohio state and Julian
- 43:58Speaker 5: saying are because they just throw it up to Jeremiah Smith.
- 44:01Speaker 5: And like he, I don't even know what the big
- 44:03Speaker 5: 10 D coordinators are doing. The fact that you continue
- 44:06Speaker 5: to allow this guy be one-on-one with anybody. I would
- 44:09Speaker 5: play with nine other guys. Cause two of them are
- 44:11Speaker 5: going to be on him the whole game. And I
- 44:14Speaker 5: get in the low red zone, I'm doing punt coverage
- 44:17Speaker 5: where I'm jamming him. I'm putting two jammers up there
- 44:19Speaker 5: like you do on punt coverage. That's what I'm doing.
- 44:22Speaker 5: And he's already had one D coordinator fired this year,
- 44:26Speaker 5: Jeremiah Smith has. So, I mean, just keep racking him up.
- 44:29Speaker 5: The dude is a cheat code. He's so good.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Another wide receiver who a lot.
- 44:33Speaker 5: Of people are sleeping on, Anthony Evans III out of
- 44:36Speaker 5: Mississippi State. Really big fan of his as well. And
- 44:39Speaker 5: if that quarterback is healthy, watch out. Mississippi State has
- 44:43Speaker 5: a good chance this weekend versus the LSU team that's
- 44:46Speaker 5: kind of beat up, who needs to kind of figure
- 44:48Speaker 5: out who they are, and they need some home cooking
- 44:50Speaker 5: at home. And everybody in Louisiana is pissed off because
- 44:53Speaker 5: the Saints suck right now, and LSU ain't helping either.
- 44:56Speaker 4: So the weekends are just all messed up.
- 44:58Speaker 1: All right, Harp, go read some next, man. Go read
- 45:01Speaker 1: some next.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Thanks, guys. Appreciate it. And I don't do that anymore,
- 45:05Speaker 4: but if I need to, I could still get out
- 45:07Speaker 4: there and give.
- 45:07Speaker 3: You a couple of plays.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Oh, I know you could.
- 45:08Speaker 4: Hands, eyes, and V of the neck in that order, guys. Hands, eyes,
- 45:12Speaker 4: V of the neck. Got it.
- 45:13Speaker 2: We're in.
- 45:13Speaker 4: We're in.
- 45:14Speaker 1: You ever read the V of the neck in a
- 45:15Speaker 1: bar before back in your single days?
- 45:18Speaker 4: Of course I have.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Where to kiss?
- 45:20Speaker 3: Where to touch?
- 45:20Speaker 4: Where's the angle? Of course I have.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Hey, Ray Charles, when he was blind, it was all
- 45:24Speaker 1: about the size of the wrist, remember? I do.
- 45:27Speaker 5: Man, hey, look, everybody's got their thing, you know? You
- 45:30Speaker 5: guys have known me for long enough. You guys, I've
- 45:32Speaker 5: been on this show since Single Days, so yes.
- 45:34Speaker 3: That's right, that's right.
- 45:35Speaker 4: Thank you, Hart.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Be good, buddy. All right, fellas, bye. All right, we'll
- 45:38Speaker 1: see you. Jennifer Say found at XXXY, national champion gymnast,
- 45:42Speaker 1: former Levi's brand president. But she walked away from that
- 45:45Speaker 1: job at Levi's rather than say something she didn't believe in,
- 45:48Speaker 1: starting XXXY Athletics instead. It was the team that launched

- 45:58Speaker 1: This is real stuff, man. Performance tops, tanks, sports bras, leggings, shorts,
- 46:02Speaker 1: training sets, hoodies, hats, graphic tees. This is worn by

- 46:28Speaker 1: of the biggest games, the ones we're most confident and

- 47:19Speaker 1: families of fallen service members or those injured veterans and
- 47:23Speaker 1: first responders. Good coffee, made in America, doing some good, CrockettCoffee.com. Okay,
- 47:28Speaker 1: Brownie gave us six games. Our most confident pick, this
- 47:31Speaker 1: is just money line, it's straight up, straight up. Most
- 47:35Speaker 1: confident is one, least confident is six of these six games.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Start us off, Lance. You want me to give them
- 47:42Speaker 1: the game so everybody knows what we're doing here?
- 47:43Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 47:44Speaker 1: We're doing Ohio State at Indiana. Okay. The third Saturday
- 47:47Speaker 1: in October, Alabama at Tennessee. Missouri at Ole Miss. Notre
- 47:51Speaker 1: Dame at BYU. Wisconsin at UCLA. And Kentucky at Oklahoma. Uh,
- 47:56Speaker 1: number one for me is going to be Alabama. Oh man.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Look, I know they're coming off a difficult physical loss.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I just don't think George McIntyre will be able to
- 48:05Speaker 2: do anything offensively against this defense. I know Alabama's lost
- 48:09Speaker 2: back-to-back games in Neyland, but Alabama running the football, limiting
- 48:13Speaker 2: what Deshaun Bishop does on the ground. I really liked
- 48:16Speaker 2: the tide there. Notre Dame has got two games on
- 48:19Speaker 2: their schedule. They have known this in the entire season.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Now they're rolling into Provo. The atmosphere is going to
- 48:24Speaker 2: be incredible. but Notre Dame has found their run game.
- 48:27Speaker 2: CJ Carr, one of the best quarterbacks in football, but
- 48:30Speaker 2: Jonas Walton, the true freshman, over 300 yards the last
- 48:33Speaker 2: couple of games on the ground. Notre Dame as a team,
- 48:35Speaker 2: over 600 yards. on the ground the last two games.
- 48:38Speaker 2: I think running the football will be key to victory
- 48:41Speaker 2: for Notre Dame. Oklahoma, defense way too much for this
- 48:43Speaker 2: Kentucky offense. I know it's been a great story. Oklahoma's
- 48:47Speaker 2: offense scares me to death. They have not gone more
- 48:49Speaker 2: than 400 yards on a power four offense since week
- 48:52Speaker 2: two of the 2025 season. So that is still a concern,
- 48:56Speaker 2: but Oklahoma will get it done defensively. Wisconsin, Luke Fickle's
- 48:59Speaker 2: got this team four and one. Now you're going against
- 49:02Speaker 2: a backup quarterback. This Wisconsin defense has held three straight
- 49:05Speaker 2: opponents to under 250 total yards of offense.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I'm surprised you have them that low on this.
- 49:12Speaker 2: It's just hard to doubt Bob Chesney right now and
- 49:14Speaker 2: Wayne Knight's ability to run the football. Ole Miss, uh
- 49:17Speaker 2: the defense scares me to death I think it'll be
- 49:19Speaker 2: a hell of a game but I'm gonna favor the
- 49:20Speaker 2: home team here and then uh finally Indiana the last
- 49:24Speaker 2: time they lost you guys remember when I went to
- 49:26Speaker 2: see the Rams play the Jets that was that weekend
- 49:28Speaker 2: good lord yeah so it's literally.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Almost been uh 23 months.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Since the last time they lost a game Brownie what
- 49:36Speaker 2: do you have I've got Alabama number one.
- 49:40Speaker 3: Confidence.
- 49:41Speaker 1: It's high going against George McIntyre making his second start.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Before anybody turns the show off, I do not have
- 49:46Speaker 1: Alabama number one.
- 49:48Speaker 4: Oklahoma.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Lance and I are fairly aligned with them. Our biggest
- 49:52Speaker 1: difference is Notre Dame. I'll get to that in a moment.
- 49:54Speaker 1: I think Ohio State beats Indiana. They are the better team.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Indiana's due a loss. For the record, all these are
- 49:59Speaker 1: tough games. That's why we picked them. They are tough games.
- 50:02Speaker 1: This is why ranking them on your confidence level is difficult.
- 50:06Speaker 1: I do think Wisconsin upsets UCLA, but boy, if you
- 50:08Speaker 1: think I am going to give a ton of faith
- 50:10Speaker 1: in a Wisconsin team coached by Luke Fickle, come on now. Yeah,
- 50:12Speaker 1: and if we're 3-3 on Wisconsin, I might flip back
- 50:14Speaker 1: around the other way. Yeah, really. Get ready, brother. Stand tight.
- 50:19Speaker 1: I mean, to me, this might have been the most difficult.
- 50:23Speaker 1: These two were the most difficult for me, obviously, because
- 50:25Speaker 1: I got confidence points. But the most difficult to pick
- 50:27Speaker 1: a winner, if this makes sense, even though I have
- 50:29Speaker 1: on number six, Ole Miss-Missouri is.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Such a tight game.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 1: You almost switched because of Roman saying such nice things
- 50:35Speaker 1: about Missouri. I mean, I don't disagree with him on Missouri.
- 50:36Speaker 1: It's just a tough spot for them.
- 50:38Speaker 2: But it does feel like the best game of that
- 50:41Speaker 2: window for sure in the SEC.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Yeah. And it's on the SEC network.
- 50:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:46Speaker 1: And then Notre Dame. Look, I just think Notre Dame
- 50:48Speaker 1: has been untested. And this will be a difficult environment.
- 50:51Speaker 1: That environment, Provo night time. It's a tough time to
- 50:55Speaker 1: play him. You've got him sixth. He's got him number two.
- 50:57Speaker 1: I know.
- 50:57Speaker 2: That's why I'm saying that was our biggest departure. I
- 50:59Speaker 2: like BYU. They could get dick kicked here.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Uh-oh.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I mean, not having their running back is huge. It's huge.
- 51:08Speaker 1: For BYU. Yeah, huge. LJ Martin, right?
- 51:10Speaker 2: Yeah, LJ Martin is going to be out the next
- 51:12Speaker 2: couple of games at least. And, look, he was kind
- 51:15Speaker 2: of the engine that drove that train. And I do
- 51:17Speaker 2: believe Bear Bachmeier will try to single-handedly get this thing done,
- 51:20Speaker 2: but I don't think he can do it.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Against Notre Dame's defense.
- 51:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:23Speaker 1: No LJ Martin, no chance for me. Notre Dame's my
- 51:26Speaker 1: most confident team. Oh, it's your most confident.
- 51:28Speaker 2: By the way, the biggest number on all these two,
- 51:30Speaker 2: Notre Dame's 10.5 point favorite for a reason.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Wisconsin is next for me. This Wisconsin team, who played
- 51:36Speaker 1: Notre Dame really well for a half, I liked them
- 51:38Speaker 1: at UCLA because of the quarterback situation. But I've got
- 51:43Speaker 1: more coming up in the Righteous Jimson on this. I
- 51:45Speaker 1: don't expect that to be a high-scoring game. Easier to
- 51:47Speaker 1: pick the winner for me than a point spreader. Yeah,
- 51:49Speaker 1: I don't think you're going to get a lot of
- 51:50Speaker 1: great quarterback play from either side. Curtis Joseph's not going
- 51:53Speaker 1: to tear it up for the Badgers. Don't turn this
- 51:55Speaker 1: on too much. People throw it all over the field.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Iowa fans will watch that and be like, if we
- 51:59Speaker 1: put either one of these teams in black and gold,
- 52:01Speaker 1: they look familiar. I go Alabama third. I'm not number
- 52:04Speaker 1: one confidence level there. I go Ohio State fourth. All
- 52:07Speaker 1: due respect to Indiana. I just feel like their team
- 52:11Speaker 1: is not Ohio State.
- 52:12Speaker 2: And I kind of agree what Harp said, though. Ohio
- 52:14Speaker 2: State's not whole right now. They are missing two key
- 52:18Speaker 2: starters on the offensive line. Whether or not those guys
- 52:20Speaker 2: will play this weekend, I don't know. I think two
- 52:22Speaker 2: are out and one other one's questionable. What is their identity?
- 52:25Speaker 2: Bo Jackson's good, but it's just more been about Jeremiah
- 52:27Speaker 2: Smith and nothing else.
- 52:28Speaker 1: And I'm like you, Brown. I didn't know which team
- 52:30Speaker 1: to pick here, Ole Miss and Missouri. Tough game, man.
- 52:32Speaker 1: And I went with the Sooners down here, but with
- 52:34Speaker 1: their offense, I'm not confident. And there does seem something
- 52:38Speaker 1: magical going on with Kentucky. So I went with the
- 52:41Speaker 1: Sooners least here, Notre Dame my most confident. We'd love
- 52:45Speaker 1: to see where you guys are at confidence level in
- 52:47Speaker 1: the chat room. Real quick, which of the two Ohio
- 52:49Speaker 1: State running backs, what are their names?
- 52:51Speaker 2: Bo Jackson and– No, not– I'm sorry, offensive lineman that
- 52:54Speaker 2: you're worried about.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Oh. Well, they've got two that are listed out. I
- 52:58Speaker 1: don't know which two you're talking about, though. Jackson Powell
- 53:01Speaker 1: is out, and Austin Searfield is out.
- 53:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Austin is the starter. Okay, so he's out.
- 53:06Speaker 3: He's out.
- 53:07Speaker 1: He's out on the injury report, so he's not playing
- 53:09Speaker 1: against Indiana. And they've got a couple of other starters
- 53:11Speaker 1: that are banged up. I don't know if they're on
- 53:12Speaker 1: the injury report. Dante Armstrong is another offensive lineman. He
- 53:15Speaker 1: is questionable. So, yeah, they've got some injury issues up front.
- 53:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:21Speaker 1: We'll get into that injury report coming up a little
- 53:24Speaker 1: bit later on in the show. In fact, we'll do
- 53:26Speaker 1: it in part of the next segment along with our
- 53:28Speaker 1: righteous gemstone picks. But those are not against the spread
- 53:32Speaker 1: if you're watching now. That's not the hard rock bet
- 53:34Speaker 1: spread picks. Those are the just money line, confidence level, Alabama, Alabama,
- 53:41Speaker 1: number one for those two, number three for me. And
- 53:43Speaker 1: then we're all over the board on Notre Dame and BYU.
- 53:46Speaker 4: Yeah, we really are.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I'm probably wrong on that then. Notre Dame and BYU,
- 53:50Speaker 1: a fun weekend coming up. We'll also look at that
- 53:55Speaker 1: pro football mock draft coming up in the next segment
- 53:57Speaker 1: before we do the Righteous Gym Zone. Interesting where the
- 54:00Speaker 1: quarterback class has flipped. And maybe one of the guys
- 54:04Speaker 1: that's hard to pick a winner now showing up as
- 54:06Speaker 1: a first-round quarterback. That's when we come back on Sport
- 54:10Speaker 1: and State. This is the next round presented by Hard
- 54:12Speaker 1: Rock Bet. Hour number two of the next round here
- 54:16Speaker 1: on Sport and State presented by our friends at Hard
- 54:18Speaker 1: Rock Bet. I'll tell you about Hard Rock Bet in
- 54:20Speaker 1: a moment, but... Listen, I butchered the lines early on
- 54:24Speaker 1: in the start of the segment, rushed from our outing
- 54:27Speaker 1: last night. East Carolina in town to play UAB. I
- 54:30Speaker 1: have ECU as a five-and-a-half point favorite on the road
- 54:33Speaker 1: at UAB tonight, 630 ESPN, hard rock bet if you
- 54:37Speaker 1: want to play that. The Seahawks in the NFL game,
- 54:39Speaker 1: two-and-a-half Seahawks in Denver against the Broncos. I had wrong
- 54:43Speaker 1: team favorite there, 715. Wrong team favorite. Actually, if I'm
- 54:46Speaker 1: playing at hard rock bet, I do take the Broncos
- 54:50Speaker 1: in that one. Probably Moneyline, that thing, too. So you
- 54:52Speaker 1: think they went out right at home?
- 54:54Speaker 3: I do.
- 54:54Speaker 1: They have moved the Tampa Bay Rays-Cleveland Guardian game up,
- 54:57Speaker 1: game three, to 12 Central, 1 Eastern, because of weather
- 55:03Speaker 1: that's moving into Cleveland Outdoor Stadium. I said Tampa Bay
- 55:06Speaker 1: was the favorite. That's absolutely wrong. Cleveland's the minus-130 favorite.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:11Speaker 1: Minus 130. Gavin Williams on the hill led the AL
- 55:14Speaker 1: in strikeouts. Tampa on the road is a favorite. Seemed
- 55:16Speaker 1: reasonable in the ALCS.
- 55:17Speaker 4: Sure.
- 55:18Speaker 1: And then Brewers-Dodgers game four tonight. Brewers up 3-0, 7
- 55:22Speaker 1: o'clock FS1. I said the Brewers were a plus 130 favorite. Jim,
- 55:25Speaker 1: it's plus 130. That's not the favorite. It's the Dodgers
- 55:28Speaker 1: that are favored, minus 157. How's your morning going? It's
- 55:32Speaker 1: going great. Thanks to Crockett Coffee. You had this morning
- 55:36Speaker 1: last Thursday, didn't you? I did, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 55:38Speaker 1: I was the butt of the joke last Thursday. I'm
- 55:40Speaker 1: going to give you some grace, though, Jim. Yeah, well,
- 55:42Speaker 1: I appreciate that. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate that.
- 55:46Speaker 1: All right, so here are some injury report news. I
- 55:49Speaker 1: guess the biggest news is the Mississippi State-LSU game, the
- 55:54Speaker 1: most impactful injury. They're still not committing all the way
- 55:57Speaker 1: to Kamario Taylor being out of this game. Influx is
- 56:01Speaker 1: the way people are having it. He is listed as questionable,
- 56:04Speaker 1: as is Fluff Bothwell, the big running back. If neither
- 56:08Speaker 1: one of those guys play, path to victory for Mississippi
- 56:11Speaker 1: State seems to be zero. Yeah, it really does.
- 56:13Speaker 2: And look, there wasn't this kind of expectation with Mississippi State.
- 56:18Speaker 2: When Kamario Taylor was playing like he was in September,
- 56:21Speaker 2: the expectations went a different way. But for LSU, the expectation...
- 56:24Speaker 2: has been the expectation since Lane Kiffin was hired, and
- 56:28Speaker 2: this would be a devastating loss. I will stick with it.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Kamario Taylor will not play in this game.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I will eat crow if he does. I will be
- 56:34Speaker 1: absolutely shocked if he plays in this game. Can I
- 56:36Speaker 1: just say, though, real quick, Levy did not have him
- 56:39Speaker 1: on the availability report as questionable, doubtful, or anything going
- 56:42Speaker 1: into the Alabama game, and he clearly was not 100%
- 56:46Speaker 1: going into that game. So I'm not quite certain how
- 56:49Speaker 1: legitimate Mississippi State's availability reports are. And I've had State fans,
- 56:54Speaker 1: when I brought that up, say, it's an availability report.
- 56:56Speaker 1: He was available. They only call it an availability report
- 56:59Speaker 1: because you have to include suspended players on there as well.
- 57:02Speaker 1: So it's not just.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Strictly an injury report. Brown brought this up last night
- 57:04Speaker 2: in the car. I was looking at something because of
- 57:07Speaker 2: the broadcast last night. I was like, damn, these Mississippi
- 57:10Speaker 2: State fans, because I don't check Twitter that much. I
- 57:12Speaker 2: was like, they are coming after me. I know Brooks
- 57:14Speaker 2: is really good at pushing buttons and getting things out
- 57:16Speaker 2: there that are going to get clicks. So, boy, they're
- 57:19Speaker 2: coming after me like, you don't know what you're talking about.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Camario's not hurt. There wasn't any kind of procedure. Just
- 57:27Speaker 2: wait and see.
- 57:28Speaker 1: If I'm completely wrong on this, I'll own it. Okay,
- 57:30Speaker 1: back to that injury report. If you can show me
- 57:32Speaker 1: Mississippi State, LSU one more time, Forrester. The LSU part
- 57:35Speaker 1: of that, though, is concerning to me as well. Out
- 57:38Speaker 1: is Whit Weeks again and Tredez Green out again. Tredez
- 57:42Speaker 1: is such a big part of their passing game, and
- 57:44Speaker 1: Leavitt is struggling throwing the football to the right jerseys
- 57:47Speaker 1: right now. If they do get anything from Camario Taylor,
- 57:51Speaker 1: that is another possible loss for LSU there.
- 57:54Speaker 2: Oh, if Camario was playing, if he was playing and
- 57:58Speaker 2: he was healthy, Mississippi State would have every opportunity. By
- 58:02Speaker 2: the way, this number would only be like 6.5 or 7.
- 58:03Speaker 2: There's a reason it's 13.5 right now. I actually got
- 58:09Speaker 2: a text from Vegas yesterday. Hey, Camario's going to be
- 58:12Speaker 2: out in this game, right?
- 58:13Speaker 1: Wow. Lance Taylor, purveyor of Mississippi State information.
- 58:19Speaker 2: No, I think the knowledge is like, and it's not
- 58:21Speaker 2: like Levy can try to hide this all he wants.
- 58:23Speaker 1: LSU knows. Vegas knows. Yeah, good point. And Lance knows. Missouri,
- 58:29Speaker 1: we don't know if Forrester says he doesn't know if
- 58:31Speaker 1: Missouri's taking the availability report seriously or not. Forrester, what
- 58:35Speaker 1: does theirs look like today, man? There's a couple of names.
- 58:38Speaker 1: That's their roster. So really it's like who's not on
- 58:42Speaker 1: their availability report. Now it is the initial report, and
- 58:46Speaker 1: that would get pared down. This is probably punishment for
- 58:49Speaker 1: a grad assistant. Probable, questionable, and out. Got a campus situation.
- 58:54Speaker 1: I mean, that is just a ton of names there.
- 58:57Speaker 1: But some serious names around the league quickly before we
- 58:59Speaker 1: get to the righteous gemstones, the locks coming up for
- 59:02Speaker 1: this weekend. We mentioned Mississippi State LSU. In that Florida game,
- 59:06Speaker 1: Philo is questionable. Vernell Brown questionable. Oof. quarterback and best
- 59:11Speaker 1: wide receiver yeah Trammell Jones is apparently at least in
- 59:15Speaker 1: the discussion to be making his first start as a
- 59:17Speaker 1: Florida Gator and you're gonna have to do it on
- 59:20Speaker 1: the road against that Texas defense good.
- 59:22Speaker 2: Luck with Bob really struggling and Vernell Brown you know
- 59:25Speaker 2: possibly not playing again you know your best offensive weapon
- 59:28Speaker 2: at least on the perimeter Hey, look, Trammell Jones might
- 59:30Speaker 2: be the next best, the next great quarterback.
- 59:32Speaker 1: This is a tough spot for any quarterback.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Yeah, really, really difficult spot, and Florida just is trending
- 59:37Speaker 2: in the wrong direction. For Georgia, Chauncey Bowens is out,
- 59:40Speaker 2: and they're starting to talk about he may be out
- 59:42Speaker 2: in an extended period of time, maybe even the season.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Nate Frazier not on the availability report, which means he
- 59:48Speaker 2: is available and could be back and running the football
- 59:52Speaker 2: for Georgia this week as they play host to Auburn.
- 59:54Speaker 1: And I had a lot of Georgia fans, you know, like,
- 59:56Speaker 1: make sure you mention that– Frazier didn't play about it.
- 59:59Speaker 1: And I'm like, guys, I don't think it would have
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: been any different. Like, I don't think, I mean, Georgia
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: ran for 220. I don't think with Frazier playing, they
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: were going to run for much more than 220. They've
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: got depth at running back.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: But it still is impressive when you're down to your
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: third string guy.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: And look, Frazier is obviously their alpha.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: You know, he tried to play against Vanderbilt a couple
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: of carries with the sore ribs and couldn't go. But
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: for Dwight Phillips to be able to just step in
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: and go 120 on the ground against that defense.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: And I'm not diminishing that. I'm just saying there's like
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: this school of thought that if Frazier had played that
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: the game would have been a blowout. I'm like, no,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: the score is no different with Frazier in there. I
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: don't disagree with that. He's just got the yard somebody
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: else had. One more SEC game. Kentucky at Oklahoma. Kentucky's
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: great running back, C.J.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: Baxter.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Questionable for the game after getting banged up a little
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: bit in the LSU contest.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's, you know, look, we're going to know
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: about Kenny Menchie this week because you're playing an elite
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: defense and you're doing it on the road. And if
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: they can continue to score in the 30s and win
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: these types of games, watch out. Like, this will be
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: the moment for me with Kentucky. I know it should
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: have been last week, but it was against LSU. Again,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: there's a lot of things internally going on with the injuries.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Now it's a road game against a great defense.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and so this would be another big statement for
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Will Stein.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Outside of the SEC. Oregon, Dante out again. Dante Moore
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: not playing.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: I love the drama, though, because Raiola, as good as
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: he was in relief in the Coliseum and just playing
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: flawless football, he was awful with the three turnovers before.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: He got benched last week. Got benched, though.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: But he is going to get the start in this
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: against his former team. So we got a lot of
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: drama here, and we'll see how well he plays.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: And the best receiver he has, Evan Stewart, questionable in
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: this game as well, too, for Oregon. So they're a
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: little banged up there. We mentioned Ohio State's offensive lineman
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: that is out, one of their starters, and some others
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: that are injured. In the upset alert news for Brooks
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: and I, Cal, I'll let Lance say it, but JKS
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: is not on the availability report. He looks like he's
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: back this week. Sagapula Telly. Yep, so it looks like
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: he's back. That's big for Cal as underdogs at home
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: this week. Duke. No Nate Shepard, at least right now,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: he's questionable for the big game for Duke against UNC. Yeah, look,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: and UNC's.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Got a legitimate defense, and they're coming off a nice
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: win against Pittsburgh where they completely dominated. Holden Gerner was
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: terrible in the second half against that defense, but no
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: Nate Shepard, this offense doesn't run.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: And then Georgia Tech, which has struggled offensively, especially to
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: run the football, Justice Haynes, doubtful in this game now.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Not even questionable. He's doubtful for this game. Just with him,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: I don't know the... reason he left Michigan and ended
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: up at Georgia Tech, but boy, is he just to
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: have such a good start for his career at Alabama
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: and then go to Michigan. I mean, his, the end
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: of his career is just, it's off Broadway.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: You know, they're two and three. So Georgia Tech's under
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: the radar. Nobody's talking about it, but he hasn't, I mean,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: he's on pace for over a thousand yards. He's averaging
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: over five yards carry. So he hadn't been bad.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: It's just the offense. The defense has been terrible.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: The fourth worst scoring defense right now. in the ACC.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: So the defense has been bad. The offense hasn't been good,
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: but he hasn't been bad.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: He's just kind of off the radar. That's my point.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: Yeah. All right.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: We'll get to that pro football mock draft, pro football
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: focused mock draft a little bit later on, either in
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: this show or in the next show. But right now,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: let me tell you about all the great plays and

- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Let's do some righteous gemstone locks. Hit the organ, man.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Let's do it. Welcome to the choir room.
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: How did we do last week? Do we have a record?
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: We were one and six last week.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: That's the old bounce back.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Coming off six and one, though. That's right. So that
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: makes us seven and seven on the year. We're 500.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: You know you weren't supposed to do segments more than
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: one time, though.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: That's right. This is episode three.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: You should have buried it after one. It was so
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: good the first week. I like it. I want to
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: keep it. Don't worry about the record. We are rolling.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: Pipe that organ up a little bit. Pretend it's the
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: rim mic from our broadcast last night. Turn that organ up.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: I'm almost talking over it. Got some complaints about that.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: I don't know about you. I got three plays in
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: one game here. You ready?
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Of my ten threes in one game, Utah, Colorado, righteous
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Jim Stone Locke. Take Utah, minus nine and a half
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: in the first half. There are reasons why. Because Wayshon
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Parker is going to run his tail off. I don't
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: know if you can bet on this anywhere, but I've
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: got Wayshon Parker with two touchdown runs over 30 yards
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: on those touchdown runs. So one touchdown, 30-plus run from scrimmage.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Another touchdown run, 30-plus yard from scrimmage. Long running touchdowns
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: from Wayshon Parker. That would never be a prop, but
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: that's getting out there. That's a good one, though. I
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: like it. Let's keep up with it. And then, listen,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Utah beat Colorado last year, Deion's worst touchdown. Margin of
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: victory ever, 46 points. Deion keeps it under the 46.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: They lose by only 45 or 44. It's a beatdown,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: but it won't be as bad as last year. So
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: a little positive for Deion there. They'll lose by less
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: than 46.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: They have gone 15 games against Power Fours without scoring
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: more than 24 points.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: How do you do that in college football? That's a
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: great question. Ohio State and Indiana. I don't know what
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: the lines are in any of this, right? But if
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: you can bet stacks here, Ohio State right now, 109th
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: in sack rate. They're not sacking the quarterbacks like they
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: were last year. They come back this week. I've got
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Ohio State over two and a half sacks. I don't
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: know if you can bet on this anywhere. You probably
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: could on that one, right? Probably.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: I mean, again, there's just so many college games, but
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: that is the marquee game.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: You like that one? I like that one. Over two
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: and a half sacks for Ohio State. They're 109th in
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: sack rate. Welcome back, Ohio State's past rushes. BYU, Notre Dame. BYU,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: by the way, 23-9 Kalani and Satake against the spread.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: They're really a covering machine. BYU is. Ten and a
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: half this week. I don't know who covers what in
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: this one, but I don't think BYU can go over
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: 17.5 their team total. So give me BYU under their
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: team total 17.5. I don't think they score a lot
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: of points against Notre Dame.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Man, Satake has just done such a good job with
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: this program. They're 28-4 of their last 32.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Games straight up. Pump that music. He's jamming. Pump it up.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Just let it ride. Let it eat. Wisconsin-UCLA. This is
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: going to be such bad offensive football. I'm going to
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: take under one and a half total offensive touchdowns in
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: this game. Combine both teams. You'll get one offensive touchdown.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: The whole game? The whole game. Both teams combined. Under
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: one and a half. That's a prop that you won't
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: be able to get either. Well, you just bet the
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: under at that point, right? What is the total in
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: that game? I think it's still in the 40s. I'll
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: tell you here in one sec. Florida, by the way.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Getting ready to play who? Florida's playing Texas. They're choosing Texas.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Florida and Texas. Five times they were sacked last week.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Two interceptions. Uh-huh.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: I'm trying to see.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Was Florida that had the five sacks and the two interceptions?
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Who did Florida play last week? Last week, Florida got
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: beat by South Carolina.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: They gave up the five sacks. It was Arch that
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: gave up five sacks and two interceptions. That's correct. Arch
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: gets sacked zero times this week. Oh, I would agree
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: with that one. Over, under a half.
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Arch, zero sacks.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: Take the under.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: Florida's defense is on a historically bad trend right now. Yeah,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: these are so wild, I'll stop writing them down. No sacks. Arch,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: no sacks this week.
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: Malachi Toney, back on the main stage. Miami against Florida State.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: Malachi Toney, I'm good with him up to 199 and
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: a half yards 200 more or more receiving yards for
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Malachi Tony I don't know what the prop is I
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: don't know what the total is man I'm taking Malachi
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Tony over 200 so last week against Maryland And this
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: was a big deal.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: I was listening to the V-CIN guys, and I think
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: Jeremiah Smith's prop was like 140 receiving yards against Maryland.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: They were like, that is massive. But, like, you don't
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: want to play under. Malachi Tony at 200. Well, Jim's
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: got it at 199.5. I'm good to 199.5. So anywhere
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: at 199.5, play the over because I'm good 200-plus. I
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: kind of like that play, to be honest with you.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: I mean, Florida State's defense last week against Louisville was terrible.
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: I've got two more, and then I'll recap for you.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I've got an Alabama-Tennessee this week. Deshaun Bishop averaging 113
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: yards rushing. Yep. Last week, Georgia's number, I'll point it
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: out for the Georgia folks, number three running back, number
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: four running back, ran through Alabama like you know what
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: through a 10 horn.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: Deshaun Bishop under 100 yards rushing in the Alabama game.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Whatever the prop is, I'm good up to 99.5 of
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: playing the under rushing yards for Deshaun Bishop. He's averaging
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: 113 the game. Deshaun Bishop under 100. And then the
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: last one of the righteous... That'll be a blowout, by
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: the way.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: If Deshaun Bishop is under 100 yards, Alabama will win
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: by double digits going away.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: The last one involves Mississippi State hosting LSU. Your thoughts
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: on the Mississippi State quarterback situation? I think we will
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: see a guy that we've never seen before. He came
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: in against Alabama, the Puckett kid. Good bologna sandwich in Franklin, Nashville.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: Not a good quarterback in Starkville at Puckett's. I take
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: LSU's defense. Combination, if you put the sacks and the interceptions.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Put them together. Combination. I'm good all the way up
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: to nine and a half in that one. Ten combination
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: sacks and interceptions for LSU in this game. Combination sacks
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: and interceptions. Ten or more for LSU. My God.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: That's a righteous Jim Stone lock.
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: Interceptions and sacks.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Giving them away like a Pez machine in Starkville this weekend.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Those are the righteous Jim Stone locks. If you stopped
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: writing them down.
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: For any reason.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: They got absurd, he said. I can't even read them anymore.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: That's your righteous Jim Stone locks for the week. We
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: talked to Clay Travis when we come back and the
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: choir said amen.
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: Amen.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: We're back in a moment right here. All your friends
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: at Hard Rock Bet, hardrock.bet backslash clay right there. This
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: is the next round on Sporting State. Back with you
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on

- 1:11:57Speaker 1: And we'll have Clay pop on with us in a second.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: But I wanted to remind you that the show is
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: brought to you in part by Clay Travis Law. Yeah,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: and accidents do not wait for a good time. One
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: bad moment, a wreck, a fall, a doctor wasn't paying attention.

- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Where were you the last time Indiana lost a football game?
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: I was in New York. It was Christmastime. It was
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: actually the college football playoffs. They lost to Notre Dame
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: on the road. It was the last time they lost
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: a football game.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: So they're on an unbelievable streak.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Indiana.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: This record, they've researched it back 50 years. It was 2024,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: by the way. Yeah, 50 years they've researched. I don't
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: know if we didn't have point spreads before 50 years
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: ago or what, but they've gone back 50 years. Indiana's
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: the first home dog in 50 years to have a
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: 20-game win streak or more and be a home dog
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: while still in the middle of that win streak. And
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: this should tell you, Everything you need to know. I
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: cannot believe you've got Indiana written on that board right there.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: I can't believe you would go against Cignetti. It's Ohio
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: freaking State. But has Ohio State impressed you this year? No,
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: but they're Ohio State. And that's why they're favored. That's
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: the only reason they're favored. That's not the only reason.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: That is the only reason they're favored.
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: Favorite.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: The only reason that Vegas has Ohio state favorite is
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: because the name Ohio state Vegas does not look at that.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: And so you, I mean, look, they've got a ton
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: of talent, no doubt, but I'm just saying if it
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: was anybody else, it's because it is that brand.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: When you say has Ohio state impressed you this year?
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: Ohio State's had one bad quarter all year, basically. I mean,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: they have not blown me away. I'm not saying that, but...
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: I mean, they were pretty mid in those first three quarters.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: They built a nice lead, but Texas is very vanilla, too.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: They are, but Ohio State, who else have they played
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: other than Texas? Well, they played Illinois, who's not any good.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: At Iowa, to me, that was much more impressive... I
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: shouldn't say much more impressive. Just the way they dominated Iowa.
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: They won, what, 31-14? 31-14. And that was in Iowa City,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: so that's a difficult game.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: That's a good win. Yeah, it's a very good win.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: The Texas loss, though. That was one bad quarter. It
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: was a terrible quarter. It was a terrible quarter. I
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: don't disagree with that. To Lance's point, Indiana brings the,
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: how can I say this, the most consistent, talented offense.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: They've played so far, Ohio State.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Because Iowa doesn't have a consistent offense. Texas definitely doesn't
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: have a consistent offense. So as far as consistency with talent,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Indiana is the biggest. They did not show consistency last
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: week against Nebraska. And that's why I was going to
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: bring this up, though.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: I wonder, and not that you want to play with fire,
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: because they were down 17-6 in that fourth quarter, but
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: it's almost like when I was watching them, I was
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: blown away with how bad the offense was for the
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: first three quarters. Like, how vanilla were they? Were they
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: maybe looking ahead already? It almost bit them in the ass.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: As you know, I picked Nebraska, and that's part of
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: why I did, because I thought they would struggle looking
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: ahead to the Ohio State game. That was part of
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: what factored into me picking Nebraska to win that game. Now,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: I can't say, Lance, if that was for certain or
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: if maybe their offense just isn't as good as it
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: was last year. And that's certainly a possibility. Look, they
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: got two great receivers. Josh Hoover hasn't been what I
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: thought he would be, but he's been really good. But
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: I mean, still, if.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: This was anybody else not following Mendoza, he has completed
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: over 68% of his passes. For over 1,300 yards, 17 touchdowns,
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: and zero turnovers.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know what else you want.
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: It hasn't looked aesthetically like we saw last year with
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: the guy that won the Heisman Trophy. But I think
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh could have big games against
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: this Ohio State defense. And I do think this is
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: the moment for Josh Hoover. This is why we paid
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: you a lot of money to come in and be
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: our quarterback. And not just the win streak of Indiana.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: There's another streak of college football going on right now
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: happening this weekend. Kansas State, in that rivalry game with Kansas,
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: has won 17 straight in the rivalry game.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Did you know that?
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: Kansas has had some good moments here recently. I did
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: not know it had gotten that bad. So the Sunflower,
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: is it the Sunflower Showdown?
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: The Sunflower Showdown, the 124th edition coming up. But yeah,
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: 17 straight.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: That's crazy. 17 straight.
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: Ron Prince was the coach of Kansas State the last
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: time they won. But more importantly, the Marvel movie series,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Marvel Comics, only had two movies in the Marvel Universe
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: the last time that Kansas won this game. The iPad
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: did not exist the last time that Kansas won this game.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: Let's see what else. I got one for you.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: OK, just to put in college football terms, Colin Klein,
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: the head coach at Kansas State, was a redshirt freshman
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: the last time.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: A redshirt freshman quarterback. George W. Bush was the president. GTA.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: It was GTA four had come out the last time.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: What is it, six now? Yeah, GTA 4 looks old, too,
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: if you.
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: Go back and look at that.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: That was the last time Kansas won. Breaking Bad was
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: in its first season when Kansas won this game last.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Long time ago. Nobody had even met Gus Fring. Steph
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Curry was still in college the last time Kansas. I'm
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: going to show this to Brown, but I'm not going
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: to say it out loud. I'll show it to you.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: That's true. That is true. It's facts. Instagram didn't exist
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: the last time Kansas won this game. And Dark Knight
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: was the highest grossing movie in the theaters the last
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: time Kansas won this rivalry. It's been a while. They
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: got a shot here, but I don't feel good about it.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: Who do you think owns the– real quick.
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: Who do you think owns the– series oh Kansas lifetime
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: oh really yeah because Kansas State used to be one
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: of the worst teams ever what is Kansas yeah it's
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: pretty close I saw it it's pretty close 64 54
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: and 5 Kansas does have a 10 game advantage.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: There Kansas State was always one of those teams in
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: my dad's playboy that the football edition that would come
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: out before the season that I would only read for
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: the football articles would have the 10 worst teams in
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: college football and kansas state was always until bill snyder
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: woke him up yeah all right clay travis joins us
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: now founder of sport and state you see him on
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: fox sports uh big nude kick clay and buck coming
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: up right after we are finished here on sport and
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: state what is up clay how are you today I'm
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: doing well.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: How are y'all?
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: We're doing fantastic. Thanks a lot. Let's start with your
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: Tennessee volunteers. They take on Alabama this week. George McIntyre,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: reported by Chris Lowe, among others, is going to start
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: this game, his second start. You watched him against Arkansas.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: How do you feel about McIntyre starting against the Tide
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: in Knoxville?
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: Well, if he turns the ball over three times, Tennessee's
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: going to be in trouble, and that's what he did
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: at Arkansas. But on the positive side, he made a
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: lot of really good throws, I thought. Now, It was
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: against Arkansas. And my standard for play in the SEC
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: is pretty low after how bad Faison Brandon was to
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: start the game against Texas. And then, frankly, Tennessee was
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: almost unable to throw the ball at all in the
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: game against Auburn, which I'm sure a lot of people watched.
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: I think this Tennessee team is not that dissimilar from
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: the 2024 Tennessee team when Nico was a first-year starter
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: and the defense led the way. Uh, I think defensively
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: Tennessee is pretty good. You know, one of the three
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: or four best defenses, I think in the sec, uh,
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: if at quarterback, they can just get game manager style play,
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: which is what Nico did. Uh, then I think they
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: can beat a lot of people. Um, if they turn
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: the ball over, uh, then I think they can lose
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: to a lot of people. So I still say, look,
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: I think it's unfortunate for Tennessee. If Joey Aguilar were
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: back this year, uh, I think Tennessee would almost certainly
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: be a playoff team. And I think they'd be undefeated
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: right now because mediocre quarterback play against Texas would have
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: gotten Tennessee the win a couple of weeks ago in
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: Neyland for that game. And so I think if Tennessee
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: is going to have a chance to win, then this
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: will be a low-scoring, defensive-style game, not that much different
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: than what we saw in the Georgia game, and not
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: that much different than what we saw in Neyland a
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: couple of years ago. And so that's kind of the
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: way I'm on the under in this game. I think
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: Tennessee's defense will have some success. And I think Tennessee's
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: offense will struggle. And if you told me one team
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: is going to get to 28, I would feel pretty
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: good about that team's chances to win. Even 24, I
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: think could be a winnable number in this game.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Clay, I agree.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: If Joey Aguilar was your starting quarterback, Tennessee probably would
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: be undefeated. But I still think Aguilar is a C-plus quarterback.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: I never thought he was great. Last season, he was solid.
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: With all that said, go back to Joe Milton. You've
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: got to go to Hendon Hooker the last time Josh
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: Heupel had an elite quarterback. It's just strange because there's
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: so many elite quarterbacks, or really, really good quarterbacks, I
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: shouldn't say elite, that are coming through college football. You've
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: got one of those guys at Missouri right now. I'm
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: just blown away that Josh Heupel hasn't really gotten quarterback right.
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: Yeah, you're correct. And not only, remember, he got Hendon
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: Hooker wrong because Joe Milton won the job that year.
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: And then Joe Milton came out and performed poorly. Hendon
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: Hooker came in, played the rest of that year, and
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: then obviously was very, very good in 2022. And so
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: it certainly is unexpected that Tennessee would be as good
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: defensively as they have often been over the past several years.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: And as, you know, middle of the road as they
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: have been offensively, considering Heupel was supposed to be an
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: offensive guy when he got this job. And I think
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: it's also the case that I think it's five straight
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: years Josh Heupel has had a new quarterback. There's been
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: no continuity at all. And I think that factors in
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: quite a bit. Hendon Hooker in 2022 was the last
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: time Tennessee had a returning quarterback who started the year before.
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: So you're talking about 23, 24, 25, 26, and then
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: obviously in 22, five different quarterbacks basically in five different years.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: Listen, nobody likes to be told what to do, Clay.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: But the ACC, the Big 12, the Big 10, everybody
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: lets us listen to replay now. You're very tight with
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: the commissioner and the SEC offices. Do you think there's
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: any movement on allowing us to listen to instant replay,
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: like why there was no targeting called on Ryan Coleman
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: Williams this past weekend against Georgia? And then what about
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: some kind of statement or availability of the white hat
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: in postgame? like occasionally happens in the NFL, do you
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: think that is something that is needed in college football?
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: I think anytime you can provide more honest, real-time audio
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: and or video... the better it is because that helps
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: to tamp down on the idea that there's some sort
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: of fix in. I think what generally happens is humans
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: are imperfect and they screw up. You know, the back
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: judge missed that call on the pass interference. Dunaway, you
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: and I ref the a day game, I don't know, seven, eight,
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: 10 years ago, whatever it's been now. Uh, and you
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: remember that I missed a pretty egregious pass interference call.
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: I wasn't, you know, in the tank for the, the,
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: the red team or the white team in the a
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: day game. I just screwed it up. Right. And, um,
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: to me, that is a part of the game. I,
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: I do think, uh, the targeting question, I still think
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: Alabama intercepted the ball. You know, at the 24 early
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: in the third quarter, if I remember correctly, you guys
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: probably remember the exact time in the game better than
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: I do. But I don't know how you had incontrovertible
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: evidence to overturn that call, given what was made on
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: the field either. So I thought a couple of those
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: calls went against Alabama. And and I do think the
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: more you can shine a light on how those decisions
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: are made and the better it is in general. Now,
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: you guys remember the SEC got into a really punitive
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: era back when Mike Slive was there and started suspending
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: officials for errors that they made in the game. And
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: I think the general consensus was that actually made things worse.
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: because the officials felt like they were getting singled out.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: It made a multi-day story out of officiating errors. I
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, Greg
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: Sankey is a good friend, but every commissioner that I've
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: ever met in big games, they say they only root
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: for one group, the officials, because They don't want to
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: have to deal with the controversy that comes out of
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: a call that should or should not have been made.
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: A game that's decided by the players and the coaches
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: on the field is what every commissioner wants beyond a
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: shadow of a doubt.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: Because I've always said, look, officials, I don't know why
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: they can't face the media just like coaches and players
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: have to, right? I know they're not getting paid the
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: same amount and all that, but if the head official
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: did a press conference after every game, I've never understood
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: why that's an issue. I really don't.
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: I think sometimes it's a fear of.
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: A lot of people are not used to getting grilled
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: by media. And who's going to watch that? Nobody's going
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: to watch it, but you don't think the Alabama media
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: that covers Alabama would have wanted to ask the head official,
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: can you explain to us why the penalty wasn't called?
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: It should almost be like a White House pool.
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they would have been grilled. I actually
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: think what would be better is if they just put
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: out a statement. Um, and, uh, I don't know that
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: the questions being asked necessarily is necessary. It's pretty clear
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: after every game, you know, you could have one guy, uh,
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: from each team who is deputized to say, Hey, you
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: get to ask two questions of the official. Um, it's
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: pretty clear at the end of the game, the questions
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: that might be asked. Um, and, uh, I think you
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: could allow a written response to it, um, as opposed
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: to requiring somebody, I mean, The officials aren't necessarily skilled
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: in the art of PR. They might not answer the
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: question exactly as you want it to be answered. So
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: I understand on some level that's also incredibly intimidating. And
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: to your point, I mean, I don't know what the
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: average SEC official makes in a year, but I bet
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: it's 75 or 80K. And I might be a little
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: bit wrong. Maybe it's 120 or something like that relative
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: to the amount of pressure they're under. I'm not sure
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: there are very many people in America who make less
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: and are judged more harshly than college football officials. And certainly, look,
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: I mean, I have argued this for a long time.
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: I think that giving coaches the ability to challenge non-calls
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: is actually a good thing to add, right? I mean,
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: I've been on this for a long time. I lost,
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: you guys may remember $ 30, 000 on the Rams non or
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: the Rams pass interference call that they got away with
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: against the saints. I'm sure LT still celebrating it. You know,
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: I lost $ 30, 000 on that game. So you know, in
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: a gambling era, I do think the pressure is ratcheted
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: up because in addition to the number of fans out
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: there that are big adherents of a particular team, there's
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: a lot of money swinging one way or the other.
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: I mean, I was on Alabama and the over, if
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: that pass interference call gets made correctly, I think at
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: a minimum, we may well have gone to overtime. Right.
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: And you start talking about how much money was wagered
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: on that game. That flag not being thrown could have swung,
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: I don't know, a hundred million dollars in different directions
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: based on, based on the outcome. So, Again, in general,
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: I'm in favor of trying to be as transparent and
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: open as you can be. People will still be upset
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: because humans are imperfect. But I think when you're as
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: honest and open as you can be, you tend to
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: tamp down on some of the nastier conspiracy theories out there.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: That NFC Championship game eight years ago, and you could
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: probably find $ 30, 000 in your couch right now.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: So Lance does not feel bad for you. Different moment
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: in time for you.
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: Hey, have you seen Saban, any of the docuseries right
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: now on ESPN?
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: I've only seen the clips. I saw the clip. I
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: haven't had time. In fact, I'm sitting with my 12-year-old
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: right now. We should watch that documentary this weekend. Maybe
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: we can watch it tonight or tomorrow.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: The reason I bring it up, Clay, look, you're obviously
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: well-versed in politics. You talk about it every day with Buck.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: You talk about it right here on Sport and State.
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: But the more I watch Saban just do his thing,
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: I mean, he could have been a president, right? I mean,
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: I know that sounds crazy, but there is no doubt
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: that he could run– any and all fortune 500 companies
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: uh would you have any doubt that he could have
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: been an effective president have you seen some.
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: Of them no no i mean i've said this before
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: i mean i the joke i made is um i
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: think the joke i made is what if abraham lincoln
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: had been like a college football coach instead of a
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: president wouldn't wouldn't you feel like we kind of wasted
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: him you know uh I think in some way, I mean,
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: it's great that Nick Saban won six national championships. And,
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: you know, I mean, for Alabama, University of Alabama and
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: the state of Alabama, I mean, he's obviously been very impactful.
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: But I do think his skill set is such that
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: it could have translated into something more. I don't disagree
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: with you, LT. I think his skill set is something
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: that it could have translated into. into using those talents
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: in a way that benefited more people than maybe just
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: becoming an expert in how to run a college football program.
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: And I do wonder, I'd like to see Nick Saban
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: ask that question on some level. I mean, I know
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: he's hyper-competitive, and obviously he's been interacting with Trump quite
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: a lot on the Protect College Sports Act and trying
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: to solve some of those issues. I think Saban's answer
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: probably and I don't know him personally at all, but
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: I think his answer probably would be that he doesn't
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: have time to suffer the fools that you have to
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: suffer to be a political figure in America. Like he
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: knows what the right answer is and he's just going
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: to do it. And the fact that you have to
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: go out and sell the public on, hey, this is
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: what we have to do. This is why we have
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: to move things. I think Saban would be a great
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: benevolent dictator. I'm not sure that he is somebody who
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: wants to be you know, kind of calling senators and
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: cajoling them to to support something that he knows is
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: a no brainer, basic common sense move that would make
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: the country better.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: Yeah, his Saban's head would explode. The inefficiency in our government,
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: the inefficiency you have to deal with in our government.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: It'd be an incredible reality show.
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: One of my favorite stories, I was talking to a
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: big Alabama booster right after Saban got hired. And they
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: were flying on a plane. You guys may have heard
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: this guy's story, too. These are guys that give crazy
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: amounts of money to the university. They're used to being glad,
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: glad handled, you know, chatting, chatted up everything else. Saban
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: gets on the plane, private plane going to an event,
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: shake hands with everybody, immediately puts on his headset and
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: starts looking at game film. was just not going to
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: waste the one-hour plane flight just chatting up the guys
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: who make all the money and donate all the money
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: to the university. He's like, I got a job to do.
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: My time is limited. I'm not wasting this hour when
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: I could be getting better at what my job is.
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: And I thought that was kind of a perfect Saban story.
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: And I do think on some level his talents, while...
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: really incredible in what he accomplished in college football could
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: have been used in a way that would have maybe
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: made the country better as opposed to a football team better.
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: In your scenario, would Abe Lincoln have stayed in the
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: land of Lincoln and coached the Illini?
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, maybe he would have been the John
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: Wooden of Illinois, but it is just kind of a
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: funny question, right? Like, skill sets are relatively rare, like Saban's.
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: You know, it's a reason why CEOs get paid as
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: much as they do, because that's a difficult job and
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: most people can't do it well. Same thing is true,
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: by the way, of college football coaches, lots of different
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: jobs out there that have to have a unique skill
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: set that isn't readily common. But I do think it's
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: kind of kind of funny to to put it in
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: that context, because I do think And I don't even
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: know what Saban's politics are. I just think he would
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: make rational, common sense choices that would benefit the majority
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: of Americans.
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: But, you know, President Reagan, Ronald Reagan never enters politics.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: He entered politics because his movie career was in decline.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: Like he had to find something else to do. We
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: never would have known that, though. He's a great actor.
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: I asked President Trump if he had bought an NFL
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: franchise like he flirted with doing for a long time.
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: Do you think he ever would have entered politics? I
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: don't think I asked him this in public, but he
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: was like, probably not. You know, I mean, but I mean,
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: you know, Jerry Jones is a good example of that.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: I remember Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys for 140 million 1989.
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: Everybody said he was crazy. And now the Cowboys probably
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: worth 15 or 20 billion dollars. But there's probably an
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: alternative multiverse where Jerry Jones doesn't buy the Cowboys. has
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: the same sort of garrulous energy and chutzpah, right, and
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: ends up running for political office in Texas or Oklahoma
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: or Arkansas. And I don't think it's crazy to think
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: that Jerry Jones could have been a high-level politician in
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: a totally different world.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Yeah, here's the crazy one. When President Obama was running
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: for Senate for the first time in Illinois— his Republican
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: opponent got caught in some sort of sex scandal. It's
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: some sort of crazy sex scandal and had to drop
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: out of the race. Clay, do you remember who the
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: Republicans thought they had to replace him?
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: Who?
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: Mike Ditka.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: Apparently Ditko was like, he went up to like the
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: 11th hour considering running as the Republican. He would have
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: wiped the floor with President Obama.
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: Well, I mean, that's very funny. Remember, Obama lost his
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: congressional campaign. Everybody forgets it. He ran in a Chicago
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: inner city district and got crushed, smoked, ended up going,
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: you know, being a state senator. And to your point,
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: I mean, much of politics... is being in the right
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: place at the right time and, you know, catching the
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: wave of your political career, being in the right place
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: to catch that wave.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: If I remember correctly, President Trump had all the money
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: he needed to own an NFL team when he owned
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: the New Jersey Generals. They just would never, the owners
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: never would have approved him to buy a team, right?
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: He wanted to buy one. They wouldn't, nobody would sell
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: him the team.
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: Yeah, there was some element of that. There was also,
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: I mean, the truth of the matter is, NFL franchise,
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: pro sports franchises in general. This is the president and
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: I were talking about this actually. the other day when
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: he called me, as one does, all about how much
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: professional sports franchises had increased. I had a segment on
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: my sports show on FS1 that he had seen. I mean,
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: he's a monster sports fan. He wanted to call and
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: talk about it. And the whole thing was, my thesis is,
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: and I think it's true, that people keep trying to
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: value pro sports teams on their earnings and what the
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: multiple of the earnings are and all those things. But
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: the reality is pro sports franchises are just really expensive
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: paintings and they aren't necessarily pegged to any realistic value. Uh,
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: you know, how do you justify somebody paying for a
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: Van Gogh or somebody paying for, uh, a Da Vinci
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: or any of these crazy expensive, uh, portraits that people
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: choose to hang on their wall. A lot of it
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: is just super rich guys decide that they want an
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: asset that is a trophy so that other people can
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: see that they have the ability to do it. And
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: so in many ways, pro sports franchises are just super
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: expensive paintings that rich guys can hang on their wall
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: and say like, hey, This is my team. And check
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: it out. And that's why they're not necessarily pegged to
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: any particular valuation relative to the earnings. Most of these
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: teams don't make that much money in terms of comparing
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: them to big business. But obviously the cachet and the
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: social capital of owning a franchise like this is something
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: that attracts super rich guys.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: All right, Clay Travis, you'll see him on Big New Kick,
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: see him on Fox. And Clay and Buck, follow us
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: right here on Sport and State.
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: And by the way, you guys have a cool show.
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: We're kind of cross-pollinating some tomorrow, right?
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: In Gatlinburg at the Tennessee Shine Company Tasting Room. It's
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: right there on the main strip in Gatlinburg. And Withrow
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: is out of town, so Lance and I are going
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: to be up there. We're going to co-host a little
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: bit with Hutton on the early show. and then do
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: some Friday work with him as well, previewing Alabama-Tennessee. So, yeah,
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: we'll be there.
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: And by the way, for anybody who is going to
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: that game, always be selling, right? You get $ 500. You
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: can gamble on the Hard Rock Bet app. If you
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: bet $ 5, you get $ 500 in bonus apps. If you
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: go to hardrock.bet.com, as soon as you cross the state line...
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: You can thank me. You can get $ 500 in your
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: gambling account when you bet $ 5, which I'm sure most
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: Bama fans will be betting on Tennessee.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: I didn't think about that. So if you're an Alabama
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: fan driving to the game, going to the game, as
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: soon as you cross into Tennessee, you can download hardrock.bet
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: backslash clay, and you bet five dollars and you get
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: up to five hundred dollars in no sweat bets you
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: got new copy points the next two days yeah.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: Look for new users and i bet there's a lot
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: of people in alabama who haven't downloaded that app so
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: there you go you can have some fun gambling on
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: college football in the nfl while you're in my home
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: state for the weekend There you go.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: It's going to be football weather up there, too. Nice
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: and cold in the 40s.
- 1:38:48Speaker 3: It should be awesome. I'm excited. Alabama in their reds,
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: Tennessee in their oranges. It hasn't happened since the 1970s,
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: I think, if I'm correct, in Neyland. Both teams get
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: to wear the home uniform, so it should be a
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: pretty awesome sort of spectacle on Saturday afternoon in Neyland.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: All right, Clay, thank you. Have a great weekend.
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: Hey, y'all too. Appreciate it.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: All right, buddy. Clay Travis with us on Sporting State.
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: I didn't think about that. I mean, you bet five,
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: you get 500. We'll just burn through that while you're
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: there for the weekend.
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Why not?
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: Before you come back home.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: What could go wrong?
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: I mean, just make the righteous gemstone. You just got
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: 10 picks right there. It's no sweat. That's right.
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: $ 50.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: If I do my math right, I went to Jacksonville State.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: Help me out here. 10 plays. Righteous Gemstones, that's $ 50
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: per play. Some of these are just outrageous predictions. They're
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: not actual bets. Some of them are. I don't know
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: if he can find it. He's going to 10-team parlay
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: this thing. One more segment to go when we come back.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: This is the next round on Sporting State. Final few
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: minutes of the show here on Sporting State, the next round.

- 1:41:25Speaker 1: Final six minutes of the show here. I think you
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: have Ohio State's marching band from this past weekend for
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: the Ohio State folks. No music here, but it's all
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: sped up in 60 seconds. I love when bands do this.
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: It was a tribute to Batman. Watch the marching band here.
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: They do the Batman symbol. There goes the Batmobile with
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: some flames there. Uh, the bat signal, bam, pow, bang.
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: I thought that was pretty cool. Very impressive.
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: I can honestly say, I don't think in the history
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: of all the games I've gone to, I've ever sat
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: and watched the band.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: I generally don't either. I just cannot imagine the amount
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: of work it takes to watch this. When they do
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: a bat signal, it'll come out here.
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: Look at that. Boom.
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: Pretty cool.
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: Like I think, you know, back in the day when
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: there wasn't any entertainment, I think there was the crowd
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: that probably did watch a lot of the band activity.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: I don't know how many people watch it now. Well,
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: some people, you know, the lines and the bathroom lines
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: and concession lines get so big that you stay in
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: your seats there. Good for them. That's the marching band
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: at Ohio State. Another thing, from the Dodgers, outfielder Alex Call.
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: Did you see what he did? I did. He tweeted
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: at Fox, at NBC, at all the broadcast partners and
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: Major League Baseball to basically dial back The adult content commercials,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: advertisers during the playoffs, it's America's pastime. He's like, my
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: son wants to watch baseball with Dada and we can't
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: I can't let him watch it because and he calls
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: out the two we talked about on the show. Megan
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: Fox row commercial and the gambling app for Sidney Sweeney's
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: like they're naked or half naked girls on there. And
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: I don't want my son exposed to that. Uh, we,
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: we should do better.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: I don't know what you do about that. I really don't.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: I mean, I get it. Yeah.
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: I can understand from a parent's standpoint, but you know, I,
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: I don't know what you do.
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: And I'm not telling him how to parent. I'm just saying,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: and I raised daughters, not sons.
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: So, you know, far be it for me to give
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: anyone advice on raising a sign. I would just say
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: the way I would approach that as a parent, having
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: raised two children is use it as a teaching moment. Like,
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: I don't think you can reasonably expect it's going to disappear.
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: Right. I mean, it's not.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: And understand that as they live their life, they're more
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: and more going to be exposed to that without you
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: around to help them through it. So I use it
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: as a teaching moment and whatever message you want to
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: send them in relation.
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: To that thing.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: Yeah, but I don't know. Like, what are you trying?
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: Like, what are you educating them on what the product
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: is or like this is a hot half dress girl?
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: Like probably both. I would say at that point, I mean,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: you know, whatever it is that you think. Or you
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: just break out the birds and the bee book at
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: that point. I mean, depending on the age. I don't
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: know how old his son is. If he's calling him Dada,
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: probably pretty young. Yeah, but I guess you don't want
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: to be forced to early birds and bees while you're
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: trying to watch game three of a championship series.
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a tough time to have that. Yeah, well,
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: I get that. And then birds and the bees to
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: Megan Fox. What's she promoting?
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: Yeah, not the birds or the bees. Yeah, the birds
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: get old, son.
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: I've seen a lot of complaints about the prevalence of
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: horror movie commercials during.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: The games as well. I mean, to some degree, I
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: understand it all. But to the people that broadcast the
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: games trying to make money, I understand their side of
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: it too. It's a tough balance. And again, I would
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: just say as a parent, if I were to give
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: parental advice, it's irrational to think that your child is
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: not going to be exposed to absolutely everything this world
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: has to offer. It's on you as a parent to
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: educate them on how you think they should make those choices.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: Final 90 seconds of the show, TV ratings this past week.
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: Monster game, second most watched game of the year, Georgia
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: and Alabama. 12.24 million people watched Georgia and Alabama. That's
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: behind only Texas, Ohio State. You know, I told you,
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: and I'm not going to be, yeah, probably so. I
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: told you I was going to have the number to
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: compare that to last year's game because you're fearing that
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: TV numbers are dropping. We'll do that in the next show.
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: By the time we start the second half here, I'll
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: have that number. Second most watched game of the season. Texas-Oklahoma,
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: by the way, very healthy, 9.82 million people. The third
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: was Indiana-Nebraska, 6.73. Those numbers seem to be a little
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: more healthier than what we saw last year. The two
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: previous weeks were barely 6 million people were my concern,
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: and some of them were big-name games. So a very
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: healthy number, though, for Georgia and Alabama, the first of
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: what I would imagine Alabama fans hope for at least
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: two meetings with the Georgia Bulldogs coming up this year.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: All right, when we come back on the other side,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: if you're sticking with us on the next round on
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: all of our platforms, we will get into Alabama basketball
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: tonight with an exhibition game against Ole Miss in Birmingham.
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: What we expect from them, how concerned should you be
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: if you're an Auburn basketball fan. We'll talk about filling
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: the hole of Ryan Coleman-Williams, who is out this weekend
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: for Alabama, and what is a step forward for Auburn
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: football if winning is off the table this weekend. What
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: are you looking for for Auburn at Georgia? That's all
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: coming up on the next round's second half. But for
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: those of you on Sporting State, y'all have a great day.
