- 0:36Welcome to drive thru episode number 32.
- 0:40This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive
- 0:43motorsport and random car adjacent news.
- 0:45Now, let's pull up to window number one.
- 0:48For some news, just news.
- 0:51Oh shoot, that's left over from season 3.
- 0:53We're in season 4 now, can you believe that?
- 0:56Season 40?
- 0:56Yeah, it feels like season.
- 0:58Feels like season 40 for sure.
- 0:59You know what else it feels like?
- 1:00Like I'm having one of these macho man, Randy Savage kind of.
- 1:04Season four.
- 1:05So I'm like, yeah, brother, Ric Flair in this thing.
- 1:09Like, we really got to come into season four with a bang.
- 1:11Like, right.
- 1:12I mean, God, you feel, you get the energy.
- 1:14I feel it.
- 1:15It's welling up inside me.
- 1:16We've got to get this news out to people in an exciting way.
- 1:19You know, I feel some energy to the energy.
- 1:21I feel is more like NPR.
- 1:23Welcome to drive through episode 32.
- 1:27Tanya's over there.
- 1:28Like, there's just a disturbance in the force.
- 1:31No, these are always like.
- 1:32As my bedtime approaches, so my energy level is not high.
- 1:36You asked way too much for the hour of the day.
- 1:39She's used to being an hour behind in Texas, so she had an extra hour.
- 1:43I know, so nice.
- 1:45That was life changing.
- 1:48Well, let's snap into a drive thru, brother!
- 1:51Jesus Christ.
- 1:52Let's tap into our inner WWE, shall we?
- 1:55Back in my day, it was an F, not an E.
- 1:57But that being said, this month's showcase, we're gonna talk about
- 2:01one of our favorite brands.
- 2:02Probably for the first time as an actual showcase, rather than The next in line,
- 2:07BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche.
- 2:12Is it Porsche or Porsche?
- 2:13There's different schools of thought on that.
- 2:15I've heard the cars of Porsche and the family is Porsche, but I could be wrong.
- 2:20Is that one of those things where you have to own one to know how to pronounce it?
- 2:23Yeah.
- 2:24There's a secret handshake too, because in that case you should know.
- 2:27It's like the in and out menu, right?
- 2:29There's all these secret things about being a Porsche owner.
- 2:31But you know what?
- 2:32Isn't a secret.
- 2:32We talked about this before scout as in international scout, international
- 2:37harvester, which we all thought belonged to Ford forever was bought by Volkswagen.
- 2:41They own all that.
- 2:42And they're coming out with the scout again, but as an EV.
- 2:46So apparently scouts backed by Volkswagen is 2 billion factory.
- 2:52In South Carolina, where did they come up with all this money?
- 2:56Didn't they lose more than that?
- 2:58Like 15 billion during diesel gate?
- 3:00How did they make it all back?
- 3:01How many billions did you get from diesel gate?
- 3:03Cause you had a few of those.
- 3:04Uh, I don't believe it was billions.
- 3:07How many hundreds did you get?
- 3:10I mean, if we counted it in kilobytes, then maybe it was
- 3:13billions, you know what I mean?
- 3:14You count it in yuan or whatever, in Chinese, dirty yin.
- 3:19Two billion pesos.
- 3:21There's a follow on article to this article from TechCrunch from Hagerty.
- 3:25Volkswagen is obviously talking about the Scout plant and what they're investing
- 3:29in it and they're really bullish on bringing this vehicle back and, you know,
- 3:33how it's going to sell in the States because of nostalgia and everything else.
- 3:36But they also talked about how there's this, let's call it gold rush in
- 3:40America right now to build factories, especially for EBS in the United States.
- 3:45And so I'm like, really, where are we building all these factories?
- 3:49Exactly.
- 3:50South Carolina and North Carolina.
- 3:51Not densely populated cities, the whole Eastern seaboard compared to like the
- 3:55Midwest, obviously the big three were building all their factories, like in
- 3:59Ohio and Illinois and places like that.
- 4:01Why not move back to those areas where they almost need it more?
- 4:05Like, I feel like building another plant alongside of BMW and Mercedes
- 4:09and everybody else that's in the Carolinas to include NASCAR.
- 4:13Does that make sense?
- 4:14I mean, it depends on how attractive the local establishment is making
- 4:19it for these companies to come and build these facilities.
- 4:23I mean, in the article here, it says that South Carolina Governor
- 4:25Henry McMaster, classic name, by the way, he's making it a priority
- 4:29to make his state an EV epicenter.
- 4:32And I guarantee you having worked for quasi government agency and being in
- 4:37the business of providing business loans and commercial loans to businesses using
- 4:43state and public funding, there's a ton of incentives to be had out there.
- 4:47It all depends on what the agenda is.
- 4:49Of the local municipality and what they want to do.
- 4:51He's making it an EV epicenter, making that a priority.
- 4:54Then he's going to prioritize state funding, incentivizing
- 4:57companies to come to his state.
- 4:58I'm just curious, the drawbacks to, you know, building a factory, what's
- 5:02the green initiative look like there?
- 5:03How clean is the factory, right?
- 5:05Because it takes certain machinery and tooling and things that already
- 5:08exist today to create these, let's call them quote unquote, clean vehicles.
- 5:12So there's sort of a give and take there.
- 5:13I'm very curious.
- 5:14To see how this pans out.
- 5:16They're claiming 200, 000 EVs a year coming out of the new scout plant.
- 5:20That's exciting because I think it's a cool idea.
- 5:23I love to see these on the road.
- 5:25They're also talking about potentially competing with the Rivians of
- 5:29the world and the Broncos and the Wranglers and things like that.
- 5:31So the price point of this scout is.
- 5:34TBD at this point, I'm hoping they don't price the enthusiasts out of the vehicle.
- 5:39If it's competing in those markets, it's going to be in the 40, 50, 60 range.
- 5:43Yeah.
- 5:43The Rivian, I think is on the higher end of that.
- 5:45So that's the scary part.
- 5:46Like, hopefully they don't reach for that level and they
- 5:49keep it somewhere in between.
- 5:50Yeah.
- 5:51They'll have different levels.
- 5:52I'm sure.
- 5:52And they'll have different sized versions.
- 5:54I'm sure too.
- 5:54They'll probably have like an equivalent to the Bronco sport
- 5:58as well as the actual Bronco.
- 6:00I'm excited.
- 6:01I, I'm all for more off road capable vehicles.
- 6:03You think this is going to be off road capable?
- 6:05That's what it's supposed to be.
- 6:06It's supposed to be rugged.
- 6:08US market with a rugged, oh, electric view.
- 6:10Don't they all say they're rugged?
- 6:12Until you actually take them off the mall parking lot.
- 6:14Yes.
- 6:15So it depends.
- 6:16The Broncos are capable.
- 6:17Wranglers have been proven for decades to be capable.
- 6:20Yes.
- 6:21I believe that if that's the market that they're going for
- 6:23it, Dan will better be rugged.
- 6:24Absolutely.
- 6:25Well, switching gears, maybe they're paying for all this with the new
- 6:28Porsche 911 GT3 RS tribute package.
- 6:33Supposedly honoring the iconic 1973 Carrera RS.
- 6:37What do you guys think?
- 6:38I hate the frunk.
- 6:40Thank you.
- 6:40The frunk lid.
- 6:41Even just the regular base 911.
- 6:44I hate The little grill or whatever.
- 6:46I mean, I'm sure they're functional, the hood vents or the frunk vents.
- 6:49It looks like a Bajoran nose.
- 6:51Oh!
- 6:53There is something really wrong with that hood.
- 6:56I agree with you that scaffolding across the bridge of its nose does remind me
- 7:00now of a Bajoran now that you say that.
- 7:02The bottom half of the bumper.
- 7:03Is reminiscent of the Taycan.
- 7:05It's kind of odd from the front.
- 7:07The rest of the car, I like the livery.
- 7:09I love the green, white, and black.
- 7:11It looks really cool.
- 7:11I do like the green and white, yeah.
- 7:13I don't know how I feel about the spoilers around the wheels.
- 7:16Oh, the canards?
- 7:17Yeah, front and back.
- 7:18Those are interesting.
- 7:20I mean, obviously they're there for a reason.
- 7:22They don't take away and they don't add, because of the other black
- 7:25accents, I don't even notice them right away, and then you pointed
- 7:28them out and obviously they're there.
- 7:29I mean, what's more ostentatious is that rear wing.
- 7:33I mean, good lord, if you couldn't feed a family of twelve on that thing.
- 7:36It is huge!
- 7:38And the weird fender arch, too.
- 7:40The weird cutout.
- 7:41Fender arch thing or whatever.
- 7:43I don't know.
- 7:43It's okay.
- 7:44What I think they're doing is they're borrowing from the IMSA 9 11 in
- 7:48that respect, where it has that sort of cut rear fender and the way
- 7:51the bumpers come off on those cars.
- 7:53So it reminds me of the legitimate GT three cars.
- 7:56So I don't hate it.
- 7:57Right.
- 7:58Does that mean it's mid engine?
- 7:59Uh, you know, but you know what it is manual.
- 8:03It comes with a manual transmission.
- 8:05Oh, so you won't see it on any racetracks then because they
- 8:08don't use manual cars and races.
- 8:10Yeah, I know.
- 8:11Tanya discovered that much to her chagrin.
- 8:13You know what else is disappointing?
- 8:15You might be able to get two of these bargain at 314, 000 after
- 8:20delivery and destination charges.
- 8:22It comes with a watch.
- 8:24So you can tell how quickly you're wasting your money.
- 8:26So the watch is 300, 000 and then the car is 15, 000.
- 8:30The magnesium watch.
- 8:32So yeah, that stuff is all super cool.
- 8:36If you're in the market for that, God bless you.
- 8:38I'm going to be jealous from afar and live vicariously through every lap.
- 8:41You turn at Watkins Glen with one of these things is coming to an HOD event near you.
- 8:45It is cool.
- 8:46Except for that hood in the further down pictures.
- 8:49The car that has the color matched hood, it still looks like a
- 8:52Bajoran, but it's not as hateful.
- 8:55It looks better though.
- 8:56If they would make, just make it all white.
- 8:57Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 8:58It would look nicer.
- 8:59In order to drive your 911 GT3 RS on track, you need to put petrol
- 9:03in it because it's not an EV.
- 9:05And Porsche's got a plan for that, too.
- 9:07Well, what you would put it, it eventually is Porsche's plan to make
- 9:11their own e fuels, whatever that means in terms of it being their own.
- 9:16I mean, hopefully, obviously, if they're partnering with major oil and
- 9:20gas companies to fund, I guess, the process to make the e fuels, I mean,
- 9:24hopefully it's not just a Porsche exclusive or something like that.
- 9:27Right.
- 9:27But there's also other.
- 9:28News that the European Union is looking to legalize e fuels
- 9:32as an alternative to electric.
- 9:33I don't even know what that means because e fuel is still gasoline.
- 9:37So gasoline's legal.
- 9:38Why wouldn't Yeah, it's an oxymoron, right?
- 9:41E fuel be legal.
- 9:42I mean, it becomes an e fuel in the way it's manufactured is far allegedly
- 9:48greener than Um, regular conventional gasoline, the point Eric was making about
- 9:53the EV plants and manufacturing these factories, building EVs isn't necessarily
- 9:59environmentally safe to begin with.
- 10:02I think the point is to be carbon neutral from start to finish, I guess.
- 10:06So whatever they damage, they do, they make up for it on the
- 10:09back end or something like that.
- 10:11I think it's, well, part of it with the plants too is.
- 10:13You need power to run them, the power that you run your plants could
- 10:18also be from sustainable means.
- 10:20So whether that's wind, solar, nuclear, they said that the plant itself is being
- 10:26run by like a single wind turbine or something like that right now, because
- 10:30the E fuel plant is still sort of in the building stages versus, you know, where
- 10:34they claim it's going to be in the future.
- 10:36Yeah, I mean, if they're doing a pilot scale.
- 10:38Plant.
- 10:39They're not making huge quantities of it.
- 10:41I'm sure they could probably have enough power generated
- 10:43from a single wind turbine.
- 10:45And I think part of the real Porsche announcement about them being successful
- 10:49and I think their pilot plant, they're doing it down in South America in
- 10:52an area that's very, very windy.
- 10:54And they chose that on purpose, which is interesting because
- 10:56that area is very, very.
- 10:58Touristy, let's say can be, cause it's like the hub point to
- 11:02some really big major hikes and beautiful landscape and area.
- 11:07So part of me is like, yes, this is very cool.
- 11:09We need to do this.
- 11:10And the other part of me is like, why are you doing it in such a beautiful place?
- 11:15Nobody wants that in their backyard.
- 11:16Right.
- 11:17Which is a classic thing with.
- 11:19You know, all oil refineries and things like that to everybody wants their oil,
- 11:22but they don't want it in their backyard.
- 11:23But I did find it funny as you scroll through this article and they show
- 11:27some of the shots of the beginnings of the plant and one in particular,
- 11:31there's one of the tankers there, but if you pay close attention to the
- 11:34background of the building, you see the Porsche logo, you see Siemens.
- 11:38ExxonMobil, Enel, and a couple other companies on there.
- 11:42And I'm like, there's some big names, obviously putting their logos on
- 11:45the side of this building that are involved in this entire process of
- 11:48creating this quote unquote e fuel.
- 11:50ExxonMobil and Porsche partnered with this already several years ago.
- 11:53They've been in the process of working together to develop this.
- 11:56That's not news.
- 11:57The process that they're using to do it isn't new.
- 12:00I mean, it might be new to the general masses, but it's old tech technically.
- 12:05So good on them if they're able to scale it in a more affordable way now
- 12:09than versus, you know, decades ago, you know, the question is how much will
- 12:13this fuel end up costing you at the end of the day as the consumer, because
- 12:18talked about this in other places, gasoline and diesel are at this point
- 12:22by products of the refining process.
- 12:24It's not.
- 12:24That refineries are just solely making gasoline.
- 12:27You make a ton of different chemicals, if you will, from the process, two of
- 12:32which go into our cars every day or in our planes or the lubricants that go
- 12:37into your engine oils and all that stuff.
- 12:39The asphalt that you drive on the road to the pen that you may or may not use, if
- 12:43you still use paper, all these plastics and stuff in our daily lives are all.
- 12:47Byproducts out of the refining process, you can destroy gasoline molecules
- 12:50down further and use them to do something else, but that's expensive.
- 12:53And most of the equipment on the ground today isn't designed to do that.
- 12:57To go in and retrofit or redesign is very costly.
- 13:01So you get to a certain point where you can only do so much and then
- 13:03suddenly you're spending tons of money.
- 13:05to solve a problem, you know, and that's going to just translate
- 13:09into the cost of things.
- 13:10So what they're doing here as well, they're going about it a different
- 13:13route, but is it cost effective?
- 13:15And we won't know until they start scaling it up.
- 13:18It's great.
- 13:18And we should be looking for alternative means and more.
- 13:22Carbon neutral or greener, whatever you want to call it.
- 13:24Gasoline right now is, I don't know, depending where you are, 3 to 4 a gallon.
- 13:28People are upset about that.
- 13:29Well, what if they come around?
- 13:30They're like, we can have your e fuel.
- 13:31It's 12 a gallon.
- 13:32I don't think anybody's going to go buy it.
- 13:35I mean, not saying that it's going to cost that much.
- 13:37But it's not going to be 12 cents a gallon because it's, Oh, it's green.
- 13:41Right?
- 13:42Well, not only that, if you read this article, the way it's exactly written,
- 13:45it's only designed for nine 11s for more than 700, 000 nine 11s alone.
- 13:50We just completely disenfranchised.
- 13:52Every other Porsche owner on the planet, they are not allowed to have this
- 13:55fuel specially formulated only for the 911, which made me wonder when does
- 14:00Ferrari come out with their fuel and is it going to burn a little hotter?
- 14:04It's going to make the car a little faster, or is it just
- 14:06going to end in disappointment?
- 14:07Like every F1 race, they're going to call it Porosangue.
- 14:10You're going to string along carbon molecules to make octane.
- 14:13It's going to be the same.
- 14:15SSDB, right?
- 14:16Same ship, different bottle.
- 14:18Is that what we're talking about here?
- 14:19Well, and that's.
- 14:20What I'm wondering, Porsche slaps their name on it.
- 14:23Kind of like the formula car they were building.
- 14:25Are you going to get an upcharge for that?
- 14:27I don't know.
- 14:28That's why I'm like, they can't be just for them.
- 14:31They're linking carbon molecules together to make octane.
- 14:33Octane's octane at the end of the day.
- 14:35And beyond that, then everybody puts their additives in this, that, and the other.
- 14:38Shelby power.
- 14:40blah, blah, blah, all that stuff.
- 14:41Right.
- 14:41So are they going to make their own additives too that make it
- 14:44especially Porsche, especially racy?
- 14:47I don't know.
- 14:47Cause I thought it said it will work.
- 14:49It doesn't matter.
- 14:49You don't need a different motor or anything.
- 14:51It's just going to work.
- 14:52Yes.
- 14:53Cause it's octane.
- 14:54The motor doesn't pair as long as it's getting it.
- 14:57If I pour it into my four cylinder turbo and it suddenly sounds like a flat.
- 15:02That's that Porsche ness additive that they add in there.
- 15:04I mean, maybe.
- 15:06I mean, it's great.
- 15:06I love new technology.
- 15:08I love them trying new things.
- 15:09It's just a matter of can it be as affordable as what they're doing now.
- 15:14Since you like new technology so much, I think you have
- 15:17something you'd like to share.
- 15:18Since retro's in still, I think it's still in right?
- 15:21It's still in retro?
- 15:22I think so.
- 15:23Yeah, I think so.
- 15:23I don't think we've moved out of that phase yet.
- 15:25So to continue riding that train, Volkswagen has said that their ID two all
- 15:33model, their names are a little confusing, but the ID two all, which I don't
- 15:37think is coming to the United States.
- 15:39But that electric vehicle that they're going to have in Europe
- 15:43is going to have retro gauge options in the instrument cluster.
- 15:47So you could hearken back to a Mark 1 instrument cluster or a vintage Beetle
- 15:53instrument cluster digitally in your car.
- 15:56There's good and there's bad here.
- 15:58The goods.
- 15:59I don't know if they necessarily outweigh the bads yet.
- 16:01So let's go over the goods.
- 16:03I love the fact that you can have like classic rabbit, Chiraco dashboard.
- 16:08And I'm hoping it has like the weird vacuum buzzer and the shift
- 16:12up light, even though this thing doesn't even basically have a
- 16:14transmission, you know, stuff like that.
- 16:16I think it's all super neat.
- 16:17I believe Ford was doing some of this too with the Mach E.
- 16:19Like you change the dashboard and all that kind of stuff.
- 16:21I think it's a really neat idea.
- 16:23But when you get to the radio, That's where you start to lose me.
- 16:26That was hilarious.
- 16:28The cassette drop in cassette.
- 16:31I'm like, I would have that.
- 16:32Okay.
- 16:32That is cool.
- 16:341930s Beatle radio.
- 16:36Not a fan of that at all, but it all makes me wonder.
- 16:40How reliable it is, how good it's going to be.
- 16:43It's completely touched.
- 16:44There are no buttons.
- 16:46And I've had some bad experiences with these sorts of things in the past.
- 16:50Yeah, you don't need the buttons.
- 16:52You don't need to worry about that if it's your instrument cluster, because
- 16:55you generally never touch that.
- 16:56Yeah, there's like the pegs to reset mileage or to time clock,
- 17:00but we can do that differently now.
- 17:02But the radio and all that stuff being just a iPad.
- 17:06Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that.
- 17:07And I think neither are some other manufacturers that we're going to
- 17:10get into later, but it was Hyundai.
- 17:11So they're not a fan of it either.
- 17:12Cause they said they want to keep going with the tactile buttons and
- 17:17all that stuff, because it's unsafe to be floundering around trying to
- 17:21figure out what your touchscreen is doing and doesn't touch because it's.
- 17:24Not sensitive enough or oversensitive and you're scrolling through 10 pages
- 17:28just to turn your radio station window.
- 17:30But the Volkswagen has the drop in cassette and the sticky notes and stuff.
- 17:34How cool is that?
- 17:35I would have the drop in cassette.
- 17:37I actually really like the sticky note.
- 17:39I don't know why, but I thought the little post it note and the added detail
- 17:42of the scotch tape was really cute.
- 17:44I don't know, but I agree with Hyundai.
- 17:46I am all for the buttons and it's one of the things I enjoy the most
- 17:52about the center console on my Jeep.
- 17:53The Uconnect for years was rated as one of the best MFI touchscreen systems,
- 17:58but it has complete button backups.
- 18:01So you don't.
- 18:02Have to touch the screen if you don't want to, to make everything work.
- 18:05And so I love the idea of the customizability of these setups, but it
- 18:11just scares me when something breaks, then it's 75,000 degrees outside and
- 18:15you can't turn on the air conditioning.
- 18:16So what if it goes obsolete and they're not patching it
- 18:19anymore and there's no update.
- 18:21Now you're stuck.
- 18:22It got stuck on the VW Beetle 1967
- 18:26Well, it better radio still.
- 18:27It's like your iPad and it says.
- 18:29Apple no longer supports this operating system.
- 18:31We're uninstalling all your apps.
- 18:32You're left with nothing.
- 18:34Let's talk about the ID two for a second.
- 18:36You said it might not be coming to the United States.
- 18:38Well, the ID to all either way.
- 18:41I like it.
- 18:42It's what the golf should be.
- 18:45It's sort of bigger than the polo, but not as big as the limousine
- 18:48that we got that is the golf.
- 18:50Now it's sort of reminds me of like a Mark four sized.
- 18:53Volkswagen, and it's very well proportioned.
- 18:55It looks good.
- 18:56This interior is cool that they're partnering with it, but bring us that car.
- 19:00I think that's the neat thing to have.
- 19:02And they probably won't bring it to us.
- 19:04Never forget it.
- 19:05I feel like if they brought that it would sell better than the golf.
- 19:08The golf's too big.
- 19:09Going the way the American market has gone with the crossovers and the Honda HRV and
- 19:14the Toyota thing that's smaller than a RAV4, it's basically a golf that's lifted.
- 19:18That's perfect for what the U S market wants.
- 19:21I mean, I'm going to put on my great car neck hat and you know, the whole Johnny
- 19:24Carson bit now, and I'm going to tell you that the ninth generation GTI is actually
- 19:28a Tiguan, but that's where we're going.
- 19:30I mean, to your point, Brad, right.
- 19:31They just keep getting bigger and taller.
- 19:33And I feel like the days of the classic hatchback are numbered.
- 19:36Every time I see a Mark 8 on the road, I'm like, when did it get so big?
- 19:40Not on the inside though.
- 19:41How does that work?
- 19:42Ah, whatever.
- 19:43It's funny.
- 19:44Cause they say the performance of this is on par with a GTI.
- 19:47Really?
- 19:48Obviously not fuel economy.
- 19:49It only has like a two 80 mile range.
- 19:51I imagine the GTI does a little bit better than that.
- 19:54Probably not much.
- 19:55It's probably in the three hundreds, honestly.
- 19:56But if you're getting the same, maybe horsepower zero to 60 that people
- 20:00love, that's pretty good for 25, 000.
- 20:03Even though we're not getting the ID two, there's a current collaboration
- 20:07for another EV coming out and it's a partnership between Volkswagen and Ford.
- 20:12It's the Explorer SUV that's going to be built off the VW MEB platform.
- 20:17It sort of looks like an ID four, which is obviously the platform that it's built
- 20:21on top of, but I kind of like it better.
- 20:23It's better proportion.
- 20:24It doesn't look like a bad.
- 20:27Facelift, you know what I mean?
- 20:28Where they take your face and they try to stretch it back to your ears.
- 20:30It's just that the ID four has got a weird front end to it that I don't
- 20:34understand, but the Explorer being a little bit more blocky, I like the way
- 20:38it looks, I'm wondering what Ford is bringing to the table on this particular
- 20:42build outside of the aesthetics and the brand, but it's interesting to see two
- 20:47of the bigger players coming together.
- 20:49And the question is why are they trying to take some market share away from Toyota?
- 20:54Are they worried about Tesla?
- 20:55What's going on here?
- 20:56Why all of a sudden, is there a partnership between Volkswagen and Ford?
- 20:59Well, cause Ford in Europe, because this SUV is going to be in Europe.
- 21:02It's not going to be the Explorer that eventually comes here.
- 21:05Right.
- 21:05So it has to be smaller because so far Europeans are still trending smaller, even
- 21:11though their cars are getting bigger too.
- 21:12Ford in Europe has always.
- 21:14sort of had a big presence and a different presence than Ford in America.
- 21:18And Ford in America has been very much focused on Merc, the Lightning,
- 21:22which is a non suitable platform.
- 21:26Yeah, that makes sense.
- 21:26For a small SUV.
- 21:28And so if they're looking to be quick and get into the market
- 21:30fast, then it makes sense.
- 21:33I don't know what the relationship is that makes it easy for them to
- 21:35partner, but it probably is a very.
- 21:38Easy way for them to quickly pump out a small SUV on a chassis that already exists
- 21:44versus them spending the time doing it.
- 21:46Makes sense.
- 21:46Curious to see how that pans out.
- 21:48Unfortunately, that might be another vehicle we just never get here.
- 21:51Maybe on our next European vacation.
- 21:53Right.
- 21:54Well, you know, it can't all be sunshine and roses for
- 21:57Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi.
- 21:59There's some wah wah moments this month.
- 22:02Should we give our loyal audience a teaser into what to expect later, maybe
- 22:06in Florida Man and Lowered Expectations?
- 22:09Sure.
- 22:09I love the one that's going to piss everybody off.
- 22:12Oh, well, which one's that one?
- 22:14Well, I think the title of the article is a little misleading, but
- 22:17it says Volkswagen wouldn't help cops find car with abducted child until
- 22:21the GPS subscription was restored.
- 22:24Now it really wasn't Volkswagen.
- 22:26It was a third party vendor that Volkswagen contracts with called Carnet.
- 22:30Because they do the vehicle tracking service for the Volkswagen GPS system.
- 22:35So Carnet refused to give the information to the police until they
- 22:40renewed the subscription for the GPS.
- 22:42And how much was that renewal by the way, for a GPS?
- 22:4650, which when a child's life is on the line, I would have whipped
- 22:50out my personal credit card and been like, let's get this going.
- 22:52It depends on the kid and then reported it as a fraudulent charge.
- 22:56No, I'm just exactly, you put it on the corporate card and it's
- 23:00really funny because there's different ways to look at this.
- 23:02I mean.
- 23:03Nobody wants to get fired from their job.
- 23:05This person's just doing what they're supposed to.
- 23:06It's what the script says, blah, blah, blah.
- 23:08How can they verify that, you know, this is actually happening?
- 23:12I mean, unless the cop is there, you know, that kind of stuff.
- 23:14There's a bunch of ways to look at this, justify this, et cetera.
- 23:17But then on the other side, it's like, why is the GPS?
- 23:20Subscription's so expensive.
- 23:22Again, why is it a subscription?
- 23:24Why is this even a thing?
- 23:25I feel like if this was OnStar in an emergency like this, especially
- 23:30dealing with a child, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
- 23:33They probably would have just done it.
- 23:35Obviously, they're a nationally recognized brand.
- 23:37They don't want this to be put out into the public like this.
- 23:40Any sort of backlash.
- 23:41But then I'm kind of thinking to myself, you know, for 25 bucks, you
- 23:45could put an air tag in your car.
- 23:47It's not just Volkswagen and whoever Volkswagen is using to partner.
- 23:51I don't know what OnStar would do or not do because they're a
- 23:54whole other party entity, right?
- 23:56Because Toyota behaves the same way.
- 23:58So I know someone who had their car stolen.
- 24:00They had just recently within a month or two.
- 24:04The GPS subscription had lapsed or whatever.
- 24:06And they had called Toyota asking, can I get it reestablished
- 24:10so that I can find my car?
- 24:11And they said, no, they would not.
- 24:12They refused.
- 24:13I don't know how hard the person tried because I would have
- 24:15been like trying really hard.
- 24:17I mean, he offered to pay, they still refuse.
- 24:19So I don't know how OnStar would react, but it's something in
- 24:22the script for these companies.
- 24:23And to your point, how do they know someone's not just.
- 24:27Bullshitting my car stolen.
- 24:28They're standing outside some Rando's car, hoping that they get the one
- 24:31person to unlock the doors remotely.
- 24:33It needs to be like when Picard would put in the override code, Picard, alpha
- 24:38beta Oh three, seven, you know, whatever.
- 24:40And then they go, Oh, okay.
- 24:41That's the unlock code.
- 24:42We're good.
- 24:42Like the cops need to have that in a situation like that, get
- 24:45your law enforcement involved.
- 24:46And maybe they can override.
- 24:48These companies and script be damned.
- 24:50The bigger concern here is a child was involved kidnapping.
- 24:53It's like, come on guys, you're slowing the process down.
- 24:56I've had the solution.
- 24:57They need to FAA.
- 24:59So they needed to like FAA, the police send them a special
- 25:02code that they typed in.
- 25:03So they knew it was the police.
- 25:05And then unlocked it and been like, just send me an invoice.
- 25:09Exactly.
- 25:10You are a problem solver.
- 25:11Excellent work.
- 25:12Ah, 150 bucks for GPS.
- 25:14Why is it a subscription to begin with?
- 25:16I don't understand.
- 25:16Why do you need a subscription for heated seats?
- 25:19Exactly.
- 25:19Why do you need a subscription for any of this bullshit?
- 25:21Volkswagen has not stooped to that level yet.
- 25:24Yet.
- 25:24That is a BMW.
- 25:25But they did with the GPS right here.
- 25:27Do you know what day is coming up?
- 25:28420?
- 25:284 1.
- 25:30And what usually happens on 4 1?
- 25:31Oh, no, no.
- 25:33We get an update on the Corvette SUV.
- 25:35No, they're gonna change the name to Volt Wagon again or whatever.
- 25:39Oh, we're just kidding.
- 25:40We're just kidding.
- 25:41We don't know what it'll be this year.
- 25:42It'll be exciting.
- 25:43We should be on the lookout.
- 25:44We'll post that in Discord.
- 25:45So if somebody finds out before we do.
- 25:47It'll be Volkscription.
- 25:49Well, this next one I think is Borderline Florida, man.
- 25:52Because.
- 25:53I don't get the lifestyle, guys.
- 25:55VW Golf slammed so low it can't refuel without taking a wheel off.
- 26:00Come on.
- 26:01I don't understand the lifestyle either.
- 26:03I don't understand how the car moves.
- 26:06Well, it doesn't.
- 26:07It doesn't have any fuel.
- 26:08Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
- 26:09Ha!
- 26:09Ha!
- 26:10Ha!
- 26:10Ha!
- 26:10That's fair.
- 26:11That's fair.
- 26:12But at least this one in this particular picture, I mean, it looks
- 26:14like it's riding on the, the rim.
- 26:16I mean, they're so stanced.
- 26:18It's like, are you even a millimeter of tread and you're just
- 26:21scraping the rim the whole way?
- 26:22Like, how does the car even move?
- 26:24Dude, that car is parked hard.
- 26:27Hard.
- 26:27You hit a cigarette button, what?
- 26:29I don't know, it's the end of the world?
- 26:30You bust a tooth?
- 26:31The folks that do it, I don't want to say they do it right, but the way I've seen
- 26:35it done is the car is on bags and they can lift it back up so it drives normally.
- 26:41It'll still have some stance.
- 26:42No, I've read that like, bag life is something different.
- 26:45You don't cross the two, I think.
- 26:47Bag life is posing.
- 26:48Parking hard, baby.
- 26:49My question is, how do you get negative 40 degrees of camber like this guy has?
- 26:54I mean, where's the shock tower in this car?
- 26:56That's what I want to know.
- 26:57What's spring perch and shock tower?
- 26:59What are these like foreign car parts that you're talking about?
- 27:05They don't exist.
- 27:06It's just welded to the inside of the fender.
- 27:08Basically.
- 27:09Yeah, it's just a straight axle.
- 27:11Well, I do love the subtitle for this stance can be good until
- 27:16it compromises basic safety.
- 27:18Yeah.
- 27:18Basic safety.
- 27:19Any of that.
- 27:20Over camber, any of that is compromising safety when you're on a street road.
- 27:26Like, I'm sorry, you're not at the track that you need to have
- 27:28the camber through the turns.
- 27:30But even there, nobody runs this kind of camber.
- 27:33No, because you would skid off the track!
- 27:35No tractions!
- 27:36No grip!
- 27:38Them skidder cars.
- 27:39Could you imagine the amount of sus Flexion, you would have if you
- 27:43had to have this amount of camber.
- 27:45Imagine going into the carousel.
- 27:49You'd probably obliterate into pieces.
- 27:52You would just stop right on it.
- 27:54Like it was like a sandbar or something.
- 27:56Like it just would beach itself there.
- 27:58There's no way you wouldn't make it out of the pit with that kind of stance.
- 28:02There's just the funny part is though.
- 28:04On this article, I read through some of the commentary.
- 28:08That's always the best.
- 28:09Oh, it's wonderful.
- 28:10So one thing I learned is that the rest of us who don't stance are known as static.
- 28:16So it's static struggles that we have.
- 28:19What?
- 28:20Do you want to like go for it?
- 28:21Because my static struggles are going to win.
- 28:25Every time.
- 28:26The first off ramp and this guy's done.
- 28:29I don't have struggles.
- 28:31I don't know what that means.
- 28:32The other great comment was this guy defending, apparently he's got a shop
- 28:35and so he does a lot of stance work and fixing people's cars and all that stuff.
- 28:39Because I assume these cars break down all the time, but nonetheless, like,
- 28:42seeing someone admit to this, and I quote, Hell, I have one myself that I literally
- 28:47replace my subframe every three months.
- 28:51What?
- 28:53Can you imagine?
- 28:54No.
- 28:55You're effing up your subframe and having to replace it?
- 28:59Every three months.
- 29:00I want more information.
- 29:01Like is this you drove it three times?
- 29:03You drove it every day?
- 29:05You drove it once?
- 29:06That is beyond comprehension.
- 29:08Let me continue because this guy it's all about the love and doing what
- 29:12you have to get the look you want.
- 29:14It's funny.
- 29:15Some people think they only do this for show then raise their car back up.
- 29:19That's what airbags are for.
- 29:21See?
- 29:22See?
- 29:22The whole reason of being static is quote, driving it like you park it.
- 29:27Oh yeah, I have a slam Chevy Aveo with negative 14 front
- 29:31and negative 20 rear camber.
- 29:33So us static people just want to drive it like we're parking it.
- 29:36No, I want to drive it like I can drive it.
- 29:41So if that's the static life, I am 150, 000 percent hashtag static.
- 29:46We need some t shirts.
- 29:47Hashtag static.
- 29:48That's a good idea.
- 29:49Static struggles aren't real.
- 29:51I'd love somebody to educate me on stance life.
- 29:54I'd love to see one of these cars up close, how they're built.
- 29:57I can only speculate on the type of engineering involved
- 30:00to make this successful.
- 30:02You mean buffoonery?
- 30:03Well, duct tape was used on this car as the fuel cap.
- 30:08Because we know duct tape is not impacted by something
- 30:12like gasoline splashing on it.
- 30:14But you know, hey, we spent money to have our rear calipers powder coated pink.
- 30:18But not The money to have our gas tank filler relocated.
- 30:21All jokes aside, I've seen plenty of show cars where things like the
- 30:26filler neck are hidden or relocated, but a lot of thought is put into
- 30:30those hot rods to make that happen.
- 30:33I know one in particular open the trunk and the filler neck is on the inside.
- 30:36Yeah, maybe not the best thing with fumes or whatever, but it's a show car.
- 30:40It gets trailered to most places, you know.
- 30:42It's also parked hard.
- 30:44It's super low.
- 30:45It's not stanced out like this, but the extra thought was put
- 30:48into, Wait, I gotta put gas in it.
- 30:51Cause I do have to move it every once in a while.
- 30:53I think I know the car you're talking about.
- 30:55So say like, this wasn't just a stance show car.
- 30:58How would you even pull this on a trailer?
- 31:00That's what the bags are for.
- 31:02Oh, wait, nevermind.
- 31:03But apparently not.
- 31:03Hey, you know who doesn't have these struggles?
- 31:06Static.
- 31:07Static life.
- 31:0799 problems and static life ain't one.
- 31:11We're living the good life over here, static town.
- 31:13High life.
- 31:14We need some racing stickers made.
- 31:16Who's your sponsor?
- 31:17Static.
- 31:18Is that stasis?
- 31:19No, static.
- 31:20Static Motorsports.
- 31:22We're renaming the team now.
- 31:24Well, folks, we have to move on from Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche
- 31:27news on to our domestic segment sponsored by AmericanMuscle.
- 31:32com, your source for OEM and performance, Chevy, Ford, and Mopar parts.
- 31:38So we kick off with van life.
- 31:40Did you see how much camber this van has?
- 31:42This thing's wild.
- 31:44Maybe three degrees.
- 31:48Wait, they didn't put negative 20 on the rear?
- 31:50How's it go so fast then?
- 31:51I would love to see that GTI go up Pike's Peak like this.
- 31:561973 horsepower Ford super van did is now the record holding
- 32:01fastest van on the planet.
- 32:02Fastest van.
- 32:03Yes.
- 32:04Yes.
- 32:04As Clarkson Hammond and May used to say on Top Gear, what's
- 32:07the fastest car in Europe?
- 32:08A Ford Transit van.
- 32:09Well, you know what?
- 32:10Alice is the fastest van at Pike's Peak.
- 32:12You know what's a shame?
- 32:14And the first thing I thought of was that we will never see this on the
- 32:18Nurburgring driven by Sabine Schmidt.
- 32:22She would have had a field day with almost 2000 horsepower.
- 32:25Can you imagine this thing coming up in your rearview mirror?
- 32:28Yeah.
- 32:29The hell.
- 32:30Out of the way, you wouldn't see it by the time you saw it behind you.
- 32:33It would already be in front of you Dude, this thing is incredible.
- 32:36I mean, I love stuff like this.
- 32:38This is awesome It's a little skittish looking though It looks like a
- 32:42ford gt the back end the with the cutouts for aerodynamics and stuff.
- 32:46It's awesome I'm in the market for a van.
- 32:48This looks pretty awesome.
- 32:49The video is fantastic.
- 32:50No, it looks cool But like watching the goodwood video i'm like Man,
- 32:55it felt like it was, like, on the cusp of being wildly unstable.
- 32:59That's how Eric likes to drive.
- 33:00Well, here's the best part.
- 33:01This is a legitimate run up the peak.
- 33:03It set the record for, obviously, its class.
- 33:06It was driven by a three time Le Mans winner who also currently
- 33:09holds the Pikes Peak record.
- 33:11From 2018 in the Volkswagen IDR.
- 33:15It's not like this was just like, Oh, publicity stunt.
- 33:17Like this is legit.
- 33:18So basically if you want a world record at Pike's peak, you just
- 33:22hire this driver to do it for you.
- 33:23And do it in a van sliding doors, sliding doors.
- 33:28I haven't seen an SUV run up Pike's Peak.
- 33:30I want to see the Tesla Semi do it.
- 33:33Well, you're going to be waiting a while.
- 33:34Okay.
- 33:35So it's going to cost you your down payment on your cyber truck.
- 33:38I agree with Tanya though.
- 33:39It looks very on the cusp of going into the wall.
- 33:43Let me put it in perspective for you.
- 33:44I know it's not the same company.
- 33:46Paint it black and then put a red stripe all the way up to the tail.
- 33:51Tell me this isn't the new 18 van.
- 33:55It's awesome.
- 33:56It's awesome.
- 33:57All I request from turn 10 is that this van be put in forza next forza game.
- 34:03Turn 10.
- 34:04If you're listening, I know you're listening.
- 34:05Please, please put this in there.
- 34:07Well, you know what else they need to add to the next four is a game.
- 34:10And I don't say this often about trucks, but this 2023 GMC
- 34:16cyclone that they're proposing.
- 34:18Come on, Tanya.
- 34:19You don't like trucks.
- 34:20This is hot.
- 34:21Super cool.
- 34:23I don't like the hood.
- 34:24What?!
- 34:25There's a lot happening on the front.
- 34:28Very, very gaudy.
- 34:30I hate the hood.
- 34:30I feel like y'all just farted in church.
- 34:32Like, what are you talking about?
- 34:34This thing is incredible!
- 34:36This is one of those, like, if I do this I'm like, yeah, I love the rear, the
- 34:41tailgate, and the fender flaring there.
- 34:43Solid, very boxy, so it's very like old school.
- 34:46And then the front, if I did this, and I'm holding up my hand covering the front
- 34:51half and now I'm covering up the back half, the front I'm like it's any other
- 34:54GMC and there's just a lot of grill there and a lot of hood scooping for no reason.
- 35:00Presumably look at that front on shot.
- 35:03It's like the fourth or fifth picture down the one just before they have
- 35:06the picture of like the autumn leaves and all that kind of stuff.
- 35:09Look at that front end.
- 35:11It looks just like a happy little Rottweiler.
- 35:14It wants to see you.
- 35:15It wants to nuzzle you like this truck is.
- 35:18Just aggressive, but sort of docile at the same time.
- 35:21Like I would drive this truck.
- 35:22I would drive the hell out of this truck.
- 35:24How can you not say that this is cool?
- 35:26I like it from every angle, but the first Brad, come on, Brad.
- 35:30You know, in my long term plan is to build a sport truck like this, but.
- 35:34It's going to be a lot more understated.
- 35:36I do dig the fender flares.
- 35:38I like the wide body ness.
- 35:40I just don't like that hood.
- 35:41I've never been a fan of like the hood scoops on that from the
- 35:44GTO to this, to the Trans Am.
- 35:46I just, I'm not a fan.
- 35:47That's Ram Air, dude.
- 35:49Ram Air.
- 35:49I understand.
- 35:50I understand.
- 35:51Personally, I just don't like it aesthetically.
- 35:53If it's any consolation, the front of the original Cyclone is
- 35:56nothing to write home about either.
- 35:57It's pretty boring.
- 35:58It's an S10, basically, whatever it is, GMC Sonoma.
- 36:01We can't have this truck.
- 36:03You know why?
- 36:03It's way too static.
- 36:04I love it.
- 36:08It looks like a 400 higher in the back of that thing.
- 36:10Do we know how much it's going to be?
- 36:1275, 000.
- 36:13That's a bargain.
- 36:14It's not actually for sale.
- 36:16I don't think that's the price.
- 36:17They're not actually building it, are they?
- 36:19It's proposed.
- 36:20It's a teaser, whatever.
- 36:22They're saying zero to 60 in three seconds.
- 36:25What's up twin turbos, all sorts of fantasy things that will
- 36:29probably never come to fruition.
- 36:31But again, make this.
- 36:33Take my money!
- 36:34Take it now!
- 36:35Wow.
- 36:35Awesome.
- 36:36You can keep all your Zs and all that other stuff.
- 36:38This is cool.
- 36:39You heard it here first, folks.
- 36:40I am voting for a truck.
- 36:42All right.
- 36:42On that note, you know, we talked about the lap record at Pike's
- 36:46Peak with the Ford Supervan.
- 36:48Well, Chevy's setting some records too.
- 36:50They did a new lightning lap in the Z06.
- 36:53It currently holds the LL3 class record.
- 36:56Yay.
- 36:57What?
- 36:57Okay, cool.
- 36:58This is the whole thing with car and driver, right?
- 37:01They have their test track.
- 37:02It's sort of the equivalent to the top gear.
- 37:05You know, lightning lap that they would do.
- 37:07So car drivers kind of trying to pick up the torch and do the same thing.
- 37:10Like, Oh, where does this next car end up on the list?
- 37:13You know, that kind of thing.
- 37:14Do we go by old lady's house and you know, all that stuff that they were doing.
- 37:17I mean, the new Z06 is a phenomenal car.
- 37:19It makes a jillion horsepower.
- 37:20It's, you know, a watered down version of the race car.
- 37:22Okay.
- 37:23I didn't expect it to not beat pretty much everything else.
- 37:26That's out.
- 37:27But you look at some of the things that are on the list and I'm like, okay, the
- 37:30Nissan GTR, they stopped making that how long ago the Dodge Viper SRT 10 ACR.
- 37:36Well, we know those are still for sale new at every Chrysler dealership that Brad
- 37:39looks into, but that's in the same class.
- 37:41They stopped making that car seven years ago.
- 37:43Oh my God.
- 37:44A Mosler.
- 37:45Like how old is that?
- 37:46This class is sort of weird in the sense that it's like, great.
- 37:50The Corvette now has the record against a bunch of cars that are like 10 years.
- 37:54It's senior.
- 37:55In order to get power into that proposed GMC Cyclone, which we know
- 38:00is never coming, GM confirms that a new small block V8 is coming.
- 38:05And again, here we go.
- 38:06We're talking about electrification, electrification, electrification, and GM's
- 38:10working on a sixth generation small block.
- 38:13I don't even know what to say.
- 38:14I guess maybe I'm like a proud papa.
- 38:16Yeah, GM, you go.
- 38:17Because we know that Stellantis has bowed out.
- 38:20We're not building any more muscle cars.
- 38:22Although the electric charger is coming.
- 38:24So now GM steps into their role and says, move out of the way, guys, we're
- 38:29going to bring you another three 50.
- 38:31Well, somebody needs to make internal combustion engines to run those e fuels.
- 38:34Will this run on the Porsche fuel?
- 38:36Will it be compatible?
- 38:37I don't see why not.
- 38:37Well, if that wasn't enough, Chevy also unleashed a 1, 004 horsepower Copo
- 38:43Camaro listed as a 136, 000 drag racing.
- 38:48Weapon.
- 38:49I keep seeing that as COPD Camaro.
- 38:51You know, what bugs me about this is the same thing we've talked about before.
- 38:55632 cubic inches.
- 38:56If anybody wants to do the mental gymnastics on that and convert
- 38:59it to the metric system, it's 10.
- 39:024 liters out of a naturally aspirated V8.
- 39:04I think to myself, 10.
- 39:074 liter V8, and it.
- 39:08Only makes a thousand horsepower.
- 39:10Well, in the case, when it comes to like trucks and stuff like that, and
- 39:13they've got these big motors and they're not producing as much power as a BMW or
- 39:18Mercedes with a motor, half the size, I think it's due to, I guess, the longevity
- 39:22of the motor and they're tuned in the compression is as such to make it.
- 39:25So the vehicles last.
- 39:27A long time.
- 39:28They're not wind out completely, but this is a drag car.
- 39:31The whole point of this thing is to go as fast as possible
- 39:34on a short amount of time.
- 39:35Why can't they get more power out of it?
- 39:37It doesn't make any sense.
- 39:38There's that too.
- 39:39And is it just a numbers game to say that they have what three
- 39:42more horsepower than the demon and they did it without a blower?
- 39:46What are you talking about without a blower?
- 39:47There's a blower on this thing?
- 39:49It says naturally aspirated.
- 39:50That's not a Roots type blower on the top.
- 39:52It's a Magnuson blower, isn't it?
- 39:53No, it says no blow.
- 39:55There's something on the top of that motor.
- 39:56Is that just air intake?
- 39:58Well, then they lied in this article, because it says naturally aspirated.
- 40:01So that makes it worse.
- 40:02We got to get down to the bottom of this.
- 40:04We got to put our sleuthing hats on, because my eyes are telling me that that
- 40:07is a fucking supercharger on the top.
- 40:09If that's the case That's even worse.
- 40:11Yes, you're right.
- 40:12The picture does say Magnuson and that probably is a supercharger on top there.
- 40:17Although I don't see a way to actuate that.
- 40:19I just see a throttle body and an, and a Ram intake.
- 40:22So that might just be a Magnuson intake.
- 40:24Yeah, maybe.
- 40:25Let's say it was supercharged, which the article, I don't think it is.
- 40:29That's not great either.
- 40:30And you're only making three more horsepower out of this V8.
- 40:33And the Hemi is so much smaller in the Demon.
- 40:36And even there it's like, okay, great.
- 40:38But GM, here you go again, five years too late.
- 40:41Dodge already did this.
- 40:42Why do we even care?
- 40:43Yeah.
- 40:43I don't know much about car scoops, but pretty sure that they should not have
- 40:48used, unless that's a picture from the old Copo Camaro, they might've just
- 40:53taken a picture and thrown it up there.
- 40:55You never know.
- 40:55Okay.
- 40:56Well then if they're going to be in the car industry and they're
- 40:59going to write articles about cars.
- 41:00So, okay.
- 41:01I'm looking at the pictures.
- 41:03There's one without a supercharger and then there's one with a supercharger
- 41:06and then there's one with a carburetor.
- 41:08So what is this?
- 41:10What are you doing?
- 41:11None of it really matters because as Tanya is going to tell us.
- 41:15GM's doing the hokey pokey with the Camaro anyway.
- 41:17So all of this is moot.
- 41:19We've all heard that the sales aren't great.
- 41:21And so they're going to discontinue it.
- 41:23And so that sounds like it's official that it will be gone after 2024.
- 41:27But a successor is already in the works.
- 41:29This is quote, not the end of Camaro's story.
- 41:33Is the Camaro going away or not?
- 41:35How can it be axed, but still have a story?
- 41:37What's the sequel here?
- 41:38Is it the Camaro blazer?
- 41:40Are we going to badge an SUV with the Camaro name like Mustang?
- 41:43Is that going to be the next Camaro?
- 41:46Yes.
- 41:47I think I just threw up in the back of my throat.
- 41:49Why?
- 41:49No, this is just like the Corvette SUV thing.
- 41:53I'm like, no.
- 41:55Badge engineering.
- 41:56I mean, why don't we just say we're not going to have 2025.
- 42:01model your Camaro, let it be like, we're not making a new one.
- 42:05And then eventually in five, 10 years, we'll bring it back because
- 42:09what's old is new again, right?
- 42:10And the Camaro will be hot as again, what it is, is the pony wars are
- 42:14over usher in the donkey trials.
- 42:17Cause that's where we're going to end up with a bunch of mules.
- 42:20Horrible.
- 42:22Well, look for your Camaro SUV starting in 2025.
- 42:25Bye bye Camaro in 2025, but the 2024 model year technically starts
- 42:31in August, September timeframe.
- 42:33So does the Camaro disappear this summer at the turn of the new year?
- 42:38Or do we get a whole nother year, a whole nother summer out of the sixth
- 42:42gen Camaro before it finally goes away?
- 42:44Honestly, I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a Camaro on the road.
- 42:47That's true.
- 42:47You don't see them that often.
- 42:49Maybe everybody's holding onto them.
- 42:50They've all turned into garage Queens.
- 42:52Who knows?
- 42:52Maybe if they are hiding in garages, Ford has an answer to that, especially
- 42:56if you don't make your payments, they have patented a self repossessing
- 43:00car technology to have their cars drive themselves away, taking another
- 43:06job away from hardworking people.
- 43:08Alternatively, also the car could drive itself to a junkyard.
- 43:12If it costs too much to be repossessed.
- 43:13No, are you serious?
- 43:15I mean, I guess they could drive it anywhere they want off a cliff.
- 43:18I mean, they're not saying that they're going to do this or install
- 43:23this software, but apparently they've come up with the technology.
- 43:26And so of course they've thrown their patents on it to
- 43:28block other people from this.
- 43:30I mean, it's inevitable, right?
- 43:31Like everything's remotely controlled.
- 43:33Well, I know Tesla did this where you could call the car to come to you kind
- 43:37of thing, which was reminiscent of 1988 Batman, where he summons the Batmobile
- 43:41and it just drives to him wherever he was.
- 43:43Well, the Ram does something similar.
- 43:45It's got stalker mode and the truck will follow behind you like a puppy.
- 43:49Are you serious?
- 43:50No, I'm serious.
- 43:51Yeah.
- 43:51Yeah.
- 43:51I learned something new every time we get together.
- 43:53I forget what it's called.
- 43:54I'm making fun that it's called stalker mode.
- 43:56It's something akin to that.
- 43:58And it's literally because they expect us to be a construction
- 44:00site vehicle, the new Ram EV.
- 44:02And so while you're out walking across the site, you can set the
- 44:06truck to follow you at a slow speed and hope it doesn't run you over.
- 44:11I was going to say, what happens if you trip and fall?
- 44:13Does it just plow over top of you?
- 44:15If you're going across the construction site and you want your truck to
- 44:18go with you, why don't you just.
- 44:21We're too good for that now Brad.
- 44:22Nobody drives anymore.
- 44:23We're like dinosaurs.
- 44:25We actually touch our steering wheels I'm gonna spend 80, 000 for
- 44:28a truck to have it follow behind me.
- 44:31What sense does that make in fairness?
- 44:33They could be doing a walk down of something where they need to
- 44:36be closer to the equipment But the car could be following down the
- 44:40path and meet them the other end.
- 44:42You know, what else would work?
- 44:44If you park your 85, 000 truck in a safe location where it might not get
- 44:49damaged and use the golf cart that's on the construction site to go wherever
- 44:54you're going, can you train the truck to roll over and sit and stay too?
- 45:00If you're that Hummer driver from last month, you could roll
- 45:02it right off on a bankment.
- 45:05Yeah, you can teach it to roll over.
- 45:06Sorry.
- 45:06I digress on Ford's patent to repossess your car remotely.
- 45:10Because none of that matters.
- 45:11What boggles my mind is that we're wasting the thought energy on this kind
- 45:16of shenanigans versus putting it towards.
- 45:19It's something else that would be more beneficial to the automotive industry.
- 45:22How to protect ourselves from AI.
- 45:24That's what we need to do.
- 45:25Robot revolution is coming.
- 45:27What if you're in the car while it's being repossessed?
- 45:30Yeah, I didn't think about that.
- 45:32I guess you're going on a joy ride.
- 45:35Are you like locked in there?
- 45:36Babe, let me out.
- 45:37It's like.
- 45:38Kid when it would lock the doors and go into pursuit mode, right?
- 45:41It's like, boom, done.
- 45:42You better pay your bills, people.
- 45:44That's all I got to say.
- 45:45You can see that follow behind option being good for the cops.
- 45:48You know, when they're chasing the guys in Florida on foot on their
- 45:51lawnmowers, then the police car could just follow behind the officer
- 45:54until they're ready to detain them.
- 45:55And then they don't have to walk them all the way back in a drunken stupor
- 45:59to the backseat of their Explorer.
- 46:01See the trickle effect of this technology?
- 46:03It's a lot better to have the car follow them than to just drive it.
- 46:07Well, we're going to switch to Asian domestic news, as we like
- 46:10to call it, that encompasses our Japanese brands, Koreans, and others.
- 46:15I thought this next bit was pretty shocking, if I do say so myself.
- 46:19It's a bit of a turn.
- 46:21So it says Toyota CEO says that quote, silent majority of auto
- 46:25industry is doubting EV only future.
- 46:29Which is interesting because Porsche said it's not abandoning its ice engines.
- 46:32Right.
- 46:32And they're sticking their money where their mouth is because they're
- 46:35developing e fuels and partnering with left, right, and center to do that.
- 46:38But I also thought I read something recently that BMW has turned about face
- 46:43and said that they are going to also keep investing in internal combustion engines.
- 46:49So the pendulum is swinging back to some degree because it's not the panacea
- 46:55we all thought it was going to be.
- 46:57Maybe just maybe if only the governments would get on board with reality.
- 47:02Yeah, no, they're too busy trying to ban state by state, the sale of new
- 47:05petrol cars and craziness like that.
- 47:07And coming from Toyota, this could be a misleading headline
- 47:11because we're taking it.
- 47:12We're assuming, Oh, EV only future.
- 47:15You don't believe that.
- 47:15So that means.
- 47:16Ice engine.
- 47:17Well, Toyota has hybrids.
- 47:18Toyota has hydrogen engines, right?
- 47:21Those are all non EV only.
- 47:23So what are they really talking about here?
- 47:25Are they just talking about a future where you have multiple options and
- 47:28a mixed bag and you have proper use cases for For the different technology,
- 47:33which I think is appropriate.
- 47:34There's no one size fits all, and there's no one solution for everybody.
- 47:38Think you need different types for different markets.
- 47:42I agree.
- 47:42If you look at Toyota's lineup right now, do they actually have a.
- 47:47Full EV or is it mostly hybrids?
- 47:50They're all hybrid.
- 47:51I don't think they have a full EV at all.
- 47:53It doesn't sound like they even plan on producing one.
- 47:55No, because the BZ4X I believe is all electric and that's kind of like RAV4 ish.
- 48:03So another one of these compact crossover mini SUV thingies.
- 48:06I guess we'll see how it all plays out.
- 48:08Maybe that about face that you're talking about, Tanya, which we've all sort of
- 48:12suspected at the end of the day was probably going to happen anyway, when
- 48:15they can't harvest any more lithium or whatever else, maybe it is a stall tactic
- 48:20to develop a synthetic fuel to come up with an alternative hybrid to come up with
- 48:24hydrogen that's stable at room temperature and, you know, non volatile and God knows
- 48:28what else, you know, all these things that are being developed out there and somebody
- 48:31has got to be first to market right now.
- 48:33I think the easy button is EV.
- 48:36And I've been thinking that for a while, right?
- 48:37It's like, Oh, well, it's like a remote control car.
- 48:39Throw some batteries in it, runs till they run out, puts new batteries in it.
- 48:42Keep running it.
- 48:43If it was that simple.
- 48:44Yes, but these other technologies are still being developed.
- 48:48There are a lot longer term, more positive solution, especially some of the
- 48:52hydrogen solutions that are out there.
- 48:54I think I'm with the silent majority on this one.
- 48:56I don't think EV only is the future.
- 48:59I think.
- 49:00Like you've said many times before, there is room for all
- 49:03different types of drivetrains and power plants in this ecosystem.
- 49:07It's just a matter of which one you're more comfortable
- 49:10with at the end of the day.
- 49:11I think you'll like this one since you were so excited about the The N75?
- 49:15N74.
- 49:17Vision!
- 49:17No, but even the other end, the EV6 end or whatever.
- 49:20Oh, the Saab?
- 49:21The car shows, like the Encona, were super cool.
- 49:24Well, everyone liked the Ioniq 5.
- 49:27Oh, no, don't tell me.
- 49:29Won't you like an Ioniq 5N even better?
- 49:32Yes, I would.
- 49:33That's Awesome.
- 49:36So it's still in camo mode, so they haven't fully released kind
- 49:39of how they'll tweak the body and all that stuff, but apparently
- 49:42it's going to have like drift mode.
- 49:44That's awesome.
- 49:45Now the question becomes, when is Terry Neuville going to drive one of these
- 49:49and complain about it on the WRC stage?
- 49:51They don't have a lot of information on it though, because it's
- 49:54still kind of in development.
- 49:56They are saying it should be around 600 horsepower.
- 49:59What?
- 50:00That's awesome.
- 50:02That'll be really interesting to see how that all lines out.
- 50:06Now since we're talking about the Ioniq 5, I shared a photo with you
- 50:09guys in our JDM channel on Discord.
- 50:13Is that actually the way the rear hatch of the Ioniq opens.
- 50:18Please tell me that's actually a broken car.
- 50:20I've never seen the trunk open on one of those.
- 50:23I was not aware that it slides up over the roof.
- 50:27That is bizarre.
- 50:29This is a question I have, like, why reinvent the wheel?
- 50:32I mean, what was wrong with two little air shocks and a hinge?
- 50:35Now you're making the rear hatch slide up over a glass roof?
- 50:39I mean, it could still be a hinge mechanism that lifts and unfolds.
- 50:45The arms back down on itself and then come to a stopping point on the roof.
- 50:48I guess it's hard to tell what the mechanism is from the photo, but yes, at
- 50:53the end of the day, we don't need laser beams for windshield wipers case in point.
- 50:57Okay.
- 50:57But let's just say I'm the type of person that likes to have like a tool roof rack.
- 51:03And I want to put some extra camping gear in there because not everything
- 51:06fits in my Ioniq 5 because I have two extra passengers with me.
- 51:10How exactly does one get to the beer cooler in the trunk
- 51:14with the tool roof rack on?
- 51:16You don't.
- 51:17Oh, okay.
- 51:18But I also believe that there's something bizarre about that photo because I think
- 51:23in a quick search of Ioniq 5 trunk.
- 51:26They all live normally.
- 51:27So I do not know what the heck that person maybe modified it.
- 51:32Oh, I see.
- 51:32We get the static version.
- 51:34That's the trunk that opens normally.
- 51:36That's a stance trunk right there.
- 51:38When you, when you put 27 degrees of camber on that thing, you need
- 51:42the trunk to go up over the roof.
- 51:44So that's special.
- 51:45Well, speaking of.
- 51:47Not understanding.
- 51:48I feel like the EV market is constantly changing.
- 51:52Every time we turn around, they're talking about shifting the dates
- 51:56as to when petrol cars be banned.
- 51:58States are talking about banning on a local level, whether or not
- 52:01petrol cars can even be sold.
- 52:03How does this affect the used car market?
- 52:04We know the prices on bring a trailer are already astronomical.
- 52:07It's absolutely insane.
- 52:09But there might be a little bit of hope for all of us.
- 52:12There was a new bill introduced in the U.
- 52:13S.
- 52:14House of Representatives to prevent The ban of ICE powered vehicles.
- 52:19It's headed up by Pennsylvania Republican John Joyce.
- 52:23He introduced House of Representatives Bill 1435, and it's titled Preserving
- 52:28the Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act.
- 52:31And the bill is designed to protect Americans rights to choose the technology
- 52:34that powers their motor vehicles.
- 52:36It was introduced in response to the CARB, or the California Air Resources
- 52:40Board's plan to ban the sale of new internal combustion engines by 2035.
- 52:45And there's a lot of other states that are following suit.
- 52:47I say right on!
- 52:48I don't see why the government should be dictating what kind of cars we buy.
- 52:53You vote with your wallet.
- 52:54As people say, if you want to buy EV, buy an EV.
- 52:56If you want to buy a carbureted car, buy a carbureted car.
- 52:59I don't have a problem with it, but I'm glad that somebody's doing something
- 53:02about it and you can learn more about it.
- 53:04On the performance racing industry's website in conjunction with SEMA.
- 53:09So you can get a performance racing.
- 53:11com to check it out or check the link in our show notes to learn
- 53:14more about this new bill that hit the house floor on March the 14th.
- 53:18What did you learn about the insurance companies and
- 53:21electric vehicles there, Tanya?
- 53:23Well, it sounds kind of scary because they're basically saying
- 53:26some pretty minor vendor vendors.
- 53:28Can basically just total your car.
- 53:30Meaning what would have been minor and repairable on a traditional
- 53:35powered vehicle is suddenly a big issue because you do not fully
- 53:39understand whether or not the batteries have been compromised in any way.
- 53:44Which is obviously very dangerous because you don't want a situation
- 53:47where suddenly they burst into flames or another small impact creates an issue.
- 53:51So that's a problem.
- 53:53These cars getting into fender benders and then just basically being written
- 53:56off and ending up in scrap yards.
- 53:57And now this toll was supposed to be super good and helpful to the environment.
- 54:02And you got all this waste.
- 54:04Not to say that ice engines don't end up as waste in junkyards too, but
- 54:08there's far less precious metals that were harvested and put into them.
- 54:13The more disturbing thing reading through this was around the, in general,
- 54:17insurance and premiums and things like that, because it sounded like, well,
- 54:21here's another reason why the rest of us have higher insurance premiums is because
- 54:26there's people driving around in EVs that nobody knows what to do with them.
- 54:31Nobody knows really how the insurance breakdowns work.
- 54:34And are they really being scrapped when they shouldn't be?
- 54:37And it.
- 54:38That's just higher cost and this, that, and the other.
- 54:40I'm like, you know what?
- 54:41Then I'm glad Tesla has its own insurance.
- 54:42Y'all go figure that out yourselves and don't make me pay more
- 54:46just because you have an EV.
- 54:47It goes back to sort of the legislation part of the conversation.
- 54:50What I'd like to see happen is maybe some legislation passed to force the insurance
- 54:56companies to separate the rates between the ICE folks and the EV folks, because
- 55:01I don't want to pay for their issues.
- 55:05Because I'm still driving an ice car and I get it.
- 55:08If you get a small scratch on these batteries and you got to total the car,
- 55:11it's like the clamshell on a Lotus Elise.
- 55:13You get the slightest ding in it and they total the whole car
- 55:17because of the way it's made.
- 55:18And we shouldn't be beholden to that.
- 55:20I get it.
- 55:21The bills are high.
- 55:22You know, you've got to write off an 85, 000 EV.
- 55:25Well, something's got to give here.
- 55:26That's not my fault.
- 55:27I didn't make you go buy that 85, 000 car.
- 55:29Exactly.
- 55:30But then again, why are these?
- 55:32Things 85, 000.
- 55:33Like you've created this whole weird ecosystem, but then it's all
- 55:38disproportionate now because what happens when the Tesla hits me and
- 55:42weighs five, 6, 000 pounds and comes at my less than 3000 pound Volkswagen,
- 55:48like a torpedo and crushes it.
- 55:50I'm not going to get Jack.
- 55:52They're going to end up totaling the Tesla because of unforeseen damage to
- 55:55the batteries and all that kind of thing.
- 55:56But I walk away with what my premiums are not commiserate.
- 56:00To the type of payout that they're going to receive.
- 56:02So in my mind, it's like you total my car.
- 56:05You're going to give me 50 bucks.
- 56:06It's always been that way.
- 56:07I don't ever see it as fair.
- 56:09We pay all this money into these insurance systems.
- 56:12You're actually need the money, which is supposed to help you
- 56:15either fix or buy a new car.
- 56:17They're like, You can't have your money.
- 56:19What are you talking?
- 56:20We're not going to give you anything.
- 56:21You're going to give me 50 bucks.
- 56:22You know, I don't know.
- 56:23It's like legal thievery.
- 56:24The other part of the article, I found there's just a snippet in there that
- 56:28was like, well, you know, but really, this is really a small percentage of
- 56:31the ZBs that are ending up in this manner because ZBs are generally.
- 56:36Safer than ice, they are involved in fewer accidents because of all this technology.
- 56:41I'm like, really?
- 56:42Because as far as I know, the technology is forward facing.
- 56:44So if some person comes barreling at you from behind or side swipes, you don't
- 56:50think the nannies do a damn thing for you.
- 56:53They're equally able to be in an accident as anybody else.
- 56:56Yeah, they're vulnerable just like anything else.
- 56:58Yeah.
- 56:58Yeah.
- 56:58And people can turn those nannies off.
- 57:01So if they're driving it like anything else, then they're as
- 57:03vulnerable as anything else.
- 57:04So don't give me that excuse.
- 57:06Oh, well, this is really not brr, like, okay, sure.
- 57:09And that's the other thing I wonder about all these sensors and LIDAR and
- 57:14radar and all this stuff that they're using on these cars, especially in
- 57:17traffic, to your point, all those sensors on the front of the car.
- 57:20So when does it switch over?
- 57:22To the point where now you're liable as the ice driver, because maybe
- 57:28you changed lanes too closely to the autonomous self driving level
- 57:3215 torpedo that just hit you.
- 57:35And now it's your fault because it used to be like in the old days,
- 57:38if you got rear ended nine times out of 10, the other driver was at.
- 57:41Just because of, you know, you needed to be paying attention, stopping distances,
- 57:45all like some things can't be overcome.
- 57:47But in this case, they can be like, well, the data from the sensor shows
- 57:51that you were six inches closer than is recommended when you change
- 57:55lanes in front of that vehicle.
- 57:56I wonder how all that's going to play out, how the technology is going to be
- 58:00manipulated by the insurance companies.
- 58:03The further we go along with all this stuff.
- 58:05What a hot mess.
- 58:06Like I don't envy the actuaries or whoever it is that is in charge of
- 58:09figuring out these insurance tables.
- 58:11all this stuff because I'm sure it can't be fun, but please
- 58:14don't pass the price down to us.
- 58:17But fun fact, since you mentioned LIDAR.
- 58:20Oh, so I had an interesting revelation last night, actually, as I was
- 58:24driving home in the evening hour.
- 58:26So it was dark outside.
- 58:27I was on three lane divided highway, cruise control, minimum business, very
- 58:30light traffic, handful of us on the road.
- 58:32I had a radar detector in the car.
- 58:35It was on and all of a sudden it started going off laser and it's a
- 58:41very shrill noise when that happens.
- 58:43And so it was going off like bells and whistles I like to say
- 58:46because that's what it sounds like.
- 58:47I didn't really need to slow down because I wasn't doing anything offensive, right?
- 58:51I wasn't worried but obviously I was looking around and
- 58:54okay I don't see anybody.
- 58:55Laser works, it has to be targeted at you.
- 58:58So normally the guy's got the gun and he's pointing it at you and
- 59:02that's when the laser registers.
- 59:03So I'm looking around, it goes off again.
- 59:05It goes off again.
- 59:06And I'm like, what in the world?
- 59:08There's nobody around by now I should have passed somebody or should have
- 59:11seen taillights up ahead, you know, blah, blah, blah, you know, one car
- 59:15in front of me, there's a car behind me, and I recognize it right away
- 59:18because of the shape of the headlights.
- 59:19It was a lucid air.
- 59:20Oh, and I was like, Oh, interesting.
- 59:22There's a lucid behind me, you know, oh, cool.
- 59:24And as I'm freaking lasers going off over and over again,
- 59:28and he's slowly creeping thing.
- 59:29Transcribed Closer and closer behind me, and then he gets over,
- 59:32changes lanes, goes around me.
- 59:34It all stops.
- 59:35He goes in front of me, it's all gone, and I went, oh my goodness,
- 59:38he was self driving or something.
- 59:41It's using some sort of nanny, and the laser was beaming at me, and the radar
- 59:45detector was incessantly picking it up because he was shooting lidar at me.
- 59:50And then I realized all the times that it's going off on K band, which it does
- 59:55in the most random places when you're on the highway, which makes no sense because
- 59:59there's absolutely no one around and no reason for it to be going off, a lot of
- 1:00:02the other nannies of the self driving and the automatic cruise control and all that
- 1:00:06stuff and all these EVs are operating off of K bands and things like that.
- 1:00:10It's all being picked up by a radar detector.
- 1:00:13So what you're saying is now the radar detector has a dual purpose,
- 1:00:17a picking up B for T justice hiding in the bushes, but also the Tesla
- 1:00:21that's stalking you in traffic, that's not actually driving their car.
- 1:00:25Exactly.
- 1:00:26So now that torpedo coming at you, you have an early warning.
- 1:00:30Oh, it's like a submarine.
- 1:00:31It's like torpedoing.
- 1:00:32Oh God, get out of the way.
- 1:00:36Let me translate it for you.
- 1:00:40That's okay.
- 1:00:40Cause the steering wheels are falling off the model wise.
- 1:00:42They wouldn't be able to hit you anyway.
- 1:00:43When I realized what happened at Lucid Air, I wanted to get back in front of
- 1:00:46him and see if it was to confirm and be like, yes, it's going off again.
- 1:00:50It's definitely his LIDAR, but I wasn't going to accelerate in case
- 1:00:54there was a real threat out there.
- 1:00:56Well, you did some textbook research to verify it.
- 1:00:59So it's all good.
- 1:01:00Well, before we get into Tesla gate, let's hit up Brad's favorite section,
- 1:01:05lost and found, where he scours the internet looking for the newest old
- 1:01:08car available on dealership lots.
- 1:01:10Please tell me that Cadillac is still out there.
- 1:01:12Yes, the Cadillac.
- 1:01:13Gray Chevrolet.
- 1:01:15We need to get them as a sponsor.
- 1:01:16I mean, how much free airtime have we given gray Chevrolet at this point?
- 1:01:20Apparently none, because no one's buying that car.
- 1:01:23They're not getting any business from us.
- 1:01:25Don Wieberg, if you're listening, there is 88 to fill with your name on it.
- 1:01:29It's not an allante.
- 1:01:30He's not interested.
- 1:01:31That's true.
- 1:01:32He's not interested.
- 1:01:32That Ford GT is still out there at the low, low, low price of 450, 000.
- 1:01:38I swear it's come down.
- 1:01:40Every time we talk about that car, the price has come down.
- 1:01:43Nope.
- 1:01:43415.
- 1:01:44That's it.
- 1:01:44The only thing new on here, new, new to the list is a 2004 Nissan
- 1:01:49Xterra XE V6 at Beck and Mastin Kia.
- 1:01:53None of that was exciting.
- 1:01:55Not at all.
- 1:01:55There's a couple of Dodge Avengers, a Fiat 500.
- 1:01:58No Dodge darts.
- 1:01:59All right.
- 1:02:00Well, whatever.
- 1:02:01Maybe in April, as we get all our showers in preparation for
- 1:02:05our May flowers, something will blossom in the used car market.
- 1:02:08I wonder where you were going with that.
- 1:02:10Maybe somebody will buy that Cadillac after all.
- 1:02:13But it's time, you know what time it is?
- 1:02:15Teslagate time!
- 1:02:16Oh,
- 1:02:19we would be remiss.
- 1:02:21That's what time it is.
- 1:02:22Teslagate.
- 1:02:23Wait, what?
- 1:02:24How dare you?
- 1:02:25They've never had to recall a single vehicle ever.
- 1:02:27I think this finally counts as a recall.
- 1:02:29This has to.
- 1:02:29I mean, come on.
- 1:02:30I'm sorry.
- 1:02:31They don't want to count any of the software because it's software.
- 1:02:34They don't want to count any of the other stuff as recalls.
- 1:02:37But I think this is definitely.
- 1:02:40A recall.
- 1:02:41When you forget to put the steering wheel lock pin bolt in, and so
- 1:02:45your steering wheel comes off.
- 1:02:46I don't think a software over the air patch fixes this one.
- 1:02:50Nope.
- 1:02:50Is it a recall if the owners all die?
- 1:02:52Well, I don't think anyone was severely injured.
- 1:02:55Witch Isle.
- 1:02:57and bin at Home Depot, do I get the lock pin for the steering wheel?
- 1:03:01Their local Home Depot was sold out.
- 1:03:04aisle 12.
- 1:03:05It's somewhere between the cabinet knobs and the schlage locks.
- 1:03:09You'll find the lock pin for the steering wheel.
- 1:03:11But yes, in fact, Model Ys have a reported defect of over 120, 000 models.
- 1:03:16That have been sold?
- 1:03:17Wait, they sold that many, apparently.
- 1:03:19Wow.
- 1:03:20But yes, there is a defect because the steering wheel is
- 1:03:22basically held on via friction.
- 1:03:25So a hard enough pull force will disengage it from where it should be To
- 1:03:30Tesla's credit, we know somebody that went on track in a Miata that had a
- 1:03:35similar setup and survived Watkins Glen.
- 1:03:37So I'm just gonna leave it.
- 1:03:38Right where it is.
- 1:03:39It's doable.
- 1:03:40Flip the car really quickly into autopilot or, you know, whatever self driving.
- 1:03:44I mean, the steering wheel doesn't need to be attached.
- 1:03:46If you're not, doesn't need to be attached for it to drive itself.
- 1:03:49I would imagine.
- 1:03:50Exactly.
- 1:03:51Exactly.
- 1:03:52Well, last time we talked about Tesla gate.
- 1:03:55We were on the precipice of Investor's Day.
- 1:03:59Yes, we were.
- 1:04:00So what came of Investor's Day?
- 1:04:02What is Brad going to buy?
- 1:04:03How much more dogecoin is he going to spend?
- 1:04:06Apparently they're saying that they're going to release a 20, 000 Tesla.
- 1:04:10I've heard this before.
- 1:04:11Yes, it's the 30, 000 one, but now they can do it for 20, 000, I
- 1:04:15think because they made it smaller.
- 1:04:17Oh, they cut the rear end off of it.
- 1:04:18It actually looks like they cut it where the rear door should be and then just
- 1:04:22push the front and the rear together.
- 1:04:24Tell me you don't think that what I just described is not that photo.
- 1:04:27Oh, that's different than the other one that they showed.
- 1:04:30Who knows?
- 1:04:30They're all like weird spy photos.
- 1:04:32Yes.
- 1:04:32The original one was like this weird golf ish thing with four door.
- 1:04:38This next photo is like missing the rear doors and it looks like chopped together.
- 1:04:43I mean, this one would make more sense for the 20, 000 mark.
- 1:04:47All in.
- 1:04:48They're all ugly.
- 1:04:49The red one that they showed from autocar.
- 1:04:52co.
- 1:04:52uk is much better looking than the one that you're showing us.
- 1:04:55But either way, I'm not a fan of any of this.
- 1:04:58And again, I don't believe any of it because here we go.
- 1:05:0020, 000 Tesla.
- 1:05:02I just, we haven't seen that yet.
- 1:05:03Wow.
- 1:05:04Tesla owners are in for a big shock.
- 1:05:06Well, um, maybe, I guess it was weird the way the article was written.
- 1:05:11It was like, Hey, no big thing.
- 1:05:12It's all good.
- 1:05:13Okay, but you're losing a 7, 500 tax credit to make your car cheaper,
- 1:05:17but somehow it's like, no big thing.
- 1:05:18It's fine.
- 1:05:19It's all good.
- 1:05:19Like, okay, apparently that's happening because the legislation
- 1:05:22or the rules or the tax credits are available if everything is made in
- 1:05:27the country and the batteries are coming out of China manufacturing.
- 1:05:30And so at least the Model 3 and I guess the Y can no longer
- 1:05:34fly for this 7, 500 credit.
- 1:05:37So what you're saying is Anybody looking at a Tesla, it just
- 1:05:40got 7, 500 more expensive.
- 1:05:42I would think so.
- 1:05:43But then they keep saying that they've been lowering their
- 1:05:45prices too at the same time.
- 1:05:46Like another thousand here, a thousand there.
- 1:05:48I'm like, okay, hokey pokey.
- 1:05:50Didn't they just raise their prices though?
- 1:05:51It's like the Christmas time specials where they raise the prices
- 1:05:55in October by like 10 percent and then they give you 5 percent off.
- 1:05:59So they're still 5 percent ahead.
- 1:06:01You gotta wonder sometimes.
- 1:06:02It's like it's on sale for the regular price.
- 1:06:04Yay!
- 1:06:04Many times it's been said that Musk is following the Apple model and
- 1:06:08we joke about it, but it's true.
- 1:06:10Think about it.
- 1:06:10The iPhone blah, blah, blah just came out and it's 93 million.
- 1:06:15And then next week on Verizon, it's like trade in your old phone for a 360 credit.
- 1:06:19We'll give you a new iPhone 14 for the low, low price of 499.
- 1:06:23Well, how much does it really cost?
- 1:06:24Is it 1, 200 or is it 499 plus my trade in?
- 1:06:29If they're following that kind of chicanery, none of this surprises me.
- 1:06:33This whole month is just sort of disappointing.
- 1:06:35Maybe it's because it's the end of winter, spring has just arrived, it's still cold,
- 1:06:41it's still whatever, I'm just like blah.
- 1:06:43All the news is blah.
- 1:06:45We're kind of in the mid year slump if you think about it.
- 1:06:47If all new cars in the U.
- 1:06:48S.
- 1:06:48come out August, September, we're at the mid year mark.
- 1:06:51We're cresting it and now we get to ride the rollercoaster
- 1:06:54through the rest of the summer.
- 1:06:55So I feel like my expectations are pretty low right now.
- 1:06:58Lower expectation, oh, this means it gets worse.
- 1:07:03Depends on your point of view.
- 1:07:04Some people might think this event is good, this one didn't
- 1:07:07make collector car guides.
- 1:07:09List of events that Brad talks about every month.
- 1:07:11It really should have.
- 1:07:13I swear I would go to this event.
- 1:07:15Would you really go to this event?
- 1:07:17The thought of this scares me.
- 1:07:18Think about the people that go to car shows.
- 1:07:21Right.
- 1:07:22Think about them like this.
- 1:07:24Stereotypes aside, this isn't even static problems.
- 1:07:27This isn't even stance problems.
- 1:07:29Okay.
- 1:07:30The annual, meaning it happens more than once, but only once a year.
- 1:07:34The annual nude, as in naked, nude.
- 1:07:41We're not talking about the cars being nude.
- 1:07:44Nope.
- 1:07:45Talking about the people.
- 1:07:47The best part is this is Wisconsin.
- 1:07:49Would you have said if someone just told you there's an annual nude car
- 1:07:51show going on in August, somewhere in the United States, would you have
- 1:07:54been like, yeah, it must be Wisconsin?
- 1:07:56No, no, Florida, man.
- 1:07:57It gets better.
- 1:08:00You got to read into the event.
- 1:08:02Not that I want to see pictures from previous events or anything like that.
- 1:08:05The Valley View Recreation Club hosts the annual nude car show.
- 1:08:10We're not one beautiful summer afternoon where you can gaze upon
- 1:08:15the Mustangs and the Ferraris and everything else that accompanies them.
- 1:08:19No, not one, not two, four days of fabulous buns, guns, and TARS.
- 1:08:28in the sun.
- 1:08:28Can you imagine?
- 1:08:29There must be other activities, because what could you possibly do for four days?
- 1:08:32Stop, stop, because this is going to go off the rails.
- 1:08:35Other activities?
- 1:08:36We playing cornhole?
- 1:08:39Hide the salami.
- 1:08:41Wisconsin's known for cheese.
- 1:08:43The naked car wash.
- 1:08:44This cheese stands alone, let me tell you.
- 1:08:47Anyway, well, if you're interested folks, August 12th, 2023, this year.
- 1:08:52Find it in a small village in Wisconsin, Valley View Recreational Club.
- 1:08:56Just don't forget that annual spelt with two N's.
- 1:08:58When you Google that.
- 1:09:00Two N's and you.
- 1:09:04Every once in a while, we got to go there.
- 1:09:07And this month we got some rich people thangs.
- 1:09:10This is like, not even rich people thangs.
- 1:09:13Like this is.
- 1:09:13Florida, man.
- 1:09:14I mean, it's also lower than expectations.
- 1:09:16It checks all the boxes.
- 1:09:18I mean, I feel bad for this person.
- 1:09:21She's so proud.
- 1:09:23That's why I feel bad.
- 1:09:24Cause I'm like, I'm sorry that you've been failed in life.
- 1:09:27I know the used car market is insane.
- 1:09:31I'm impressed that this car didn't show up on Brad's lost and found list.
- 1:09:34Let me paint a picture for you.
- 1:09:35It is this.
- 1:09:36Beautiful, late 90s, sea green, you know, sort of metallic.
- 1:09:43You're not really sure what color to call it.
- 1:09:46It's a Ford product.
- 1:09:47You know, one of those quality Fords from the late 90s.
- 1:09:51But it's not a Contour or like a Taurus SHO or even a Mustang.
- 1:09:55No, no, no.
- 1:09:56This new proud owner picked herself up a 1998 Ford Escort for the
- 1:10:02low, low price of 289 a month.
- 1:10:05And how long is this loan for, Brad?
- 1:10:07Seven years.
- 1:10:08Can you imagine?
- 1:10:09Did this car even make it another seven years?
- 1:10:1284 months at 289 a month.
- 1:10:15To put that in real numbers, 24, 276 for a 1998 Ford Escort.
- 1:10:22This thing was worth like 500.
- 1:10:24I would have rather gone on a long term loan agreement with Hertz.
- 1:10:30And just rented a car every month for this kind of money.
- 1:10:32It's sad is what it is.
- 1:10:34And it's criminal.
- 1:10:35Exactly.
- 1:10:36It's just predatory lending.
- 1:10:37Sure.
- 1:10:37Yeah.
- 1:10:38Sign right here.
- 1:10:39You're not a robot, right?
- 1:10:40You got to check that box.
- 1:10:40Almost like payday level scam on this car.
- 1:10:44This person got so taken advantage of.
- 1:10:46It's.
- 1:10:47Disgusting.
- 1:10:47Hey, but they went viral on the interwebs and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:10:51So you don't want to go viral or infamous.
- 1:10:55Look for 289 a month.
- 1:10:56They even put a big red bow on the hood.
- 1:11:00You're damn right.
- 1:11:00They did.
- 1:11:01And look at those hubcaps.
- 1:11:02Those look new.
- 1:11:03That has got to be worth something.
- 1:11:05Those bows aren't cheap.
- 1:11:06289 a month cheap.
- 1:11:08It's a good 300 for that bow, yes, but those people were
- 1:11:11laughing all the way to the bank.
- 1:11:13It makes me angry how taken advantage of this woman was.
- 1:11:17I mean, wherever she bought this from, like the piece of crap human being
- 1:11:20that was like, yeah, let's do this.
- 1:11:23Only in Florida, right?
- 1:11:24Because now it's time we move south and talk about alligators and bear.
- 1:11:42You know what?
- 1:11:43It's kind of a disappointing month for Florida Man and I think it is the weather.
- 1:11:48There's a lot of news about alligators right now.
- 1:11:51Alligators knocking on people's doors.
- 1:11:53People standing in the water feeding a pork loin sandwich to an alligator.
- 1:11:58Why would you do that?
- 1:11:59That sounds like you don't want your arm or the rest of you.
- 1:12:03I'm thinking like it's getting warmer and the seasons are changing.
- 1:12:07I mean, it's always the same temperature in Florida, but I guess the alligators
- 1:12:10also have seasons probably, you know, maybe they're coming out.
- 1:12:13And so the Florida man is emerging also.
- 1:12:17So we don't have as much out of Florida right now, unfortunately.
- 1:12:21But there's some good ones here though.
- 1:12:22And I don't recall if this one was Florida or not.
- 1:12:25Probably is.
- 1:12:26This picture is unreal.
- 1:12:28It's one of those pictures, a thousand words, and it's a pick em up truck.
- 1:12:32I don't know what kind of pickup truck this is.
- 1:12:33That's a Ford.
- 1:12:34That's a Ford.
- 1:12:34The Ford F 150.
- 1:12:36Division, error, they're all the same.
- 1:12:37Ford pickup truck.
- 1:12:38I don't even know what he's got in the back, but it's an SUV of some sort.
- 1:12:41Mosaic Tesla.
- 1:12:42And it's sideways.
- 1:12:44And it's in truck bed, roped around that truck bed.
- 1:12:47I'm impressed.
- 1:12:48I am too, because the rear springs are taking all that weight, and the
- 1:12:51front end is still on the ground.
- 1:12:53He's going somewhere.
- 1:12:54He's going somewhere.
- 1:12:55He's on the move.
- 1:12:56Yeah, he's going places.
- 1:12:58As Brad always likes to say, if it fits, he sits, right?
- 1:13:01In this case, if it fits, it ships.
- 1:13:04UPS ain't got nothing on this guy.
- 1:13:06There's so many questions here.
- 1:13:07How did they load it this way?
- 1:13:09Who thought this was a good idea?
- 1:13:10How long are those straps?
- 1:13:12What's the tensile strength of those straps?
- 1:13:14What happens the first time he goes on the highway and takes an off ramp?
- 1:13:17What is the side of that vehicle that's now resting on its side look like?
- 1:13:22Are there fluids still in the engine?
- 1:13:24Are they still in the engine?
- 1:13:27I feel like this is a movie, and they're filming Transport of Florida.
- 1:13:31I want to understand, I really Because this car, this vehicle,
- 1:13:34this SUV looks in good condition.
- 1:13:36Was.
- 1:13:36From the visible body panels.
- 1:13:39But I can't imagine it sitting on its side, that that looks good anymore.
- 1:13:43It's a 1 1 scale Hot Wheels.
- 1:13:45It could be Photoshopped.
- 1:13:47Could be.
- 1:13:47But I don't think so.
- 1:13:48Probably not.
- 1:13:49This is insane.
- 1:13:50This is like a candid camera shot too.
- 1:13:52So like someone was like running and be like, get my phone out.
- 1:13:54He was on his lawnmower on the shoulder.
- 1:13:56So it was okay.
- 1:13:58Wow.
- 1:13:59Well, this next one hits close to home.
- 1:14:01We haven't had a, had a Maryland person in a while.
- 1:14:03Maryland man, or ever.
- 1:14:05Maybe this is the first Maryland man.
- 1:14:06I'm not sure.
- 1:14:07But I think it might be.
- 1:14:08It might be the first, and what a way.
- 1:14:10To come in with a bang because this Maryland man who ran
- 1:14:14out of gas on an interstate.
- 1:14:15I'd like to know which one.
- 1:14:16695 where all the shit happens.
- 1:14:19Oh man, Jesus Christ.
- 1:14:21Everything happens on 695.
- 1:14:23Okay.
- 1:14:23So you ran out of gas, pulled over as you should.
- 1:14:25And he's on the shoulder.
- 1:14:27Obviously.
- 1:14:27I don't know.
- 1:14:27He's waiting for somebody.
- 1:14:28What do you, what do you do in that situation?
- 1:14:30Do you just merely wait in your car?
- 1:14:31I mean, no, you probably shouldn't.
- 1:14:33You should exit your vehicle and safely get on the other side of hopefully a
- 1:14:36barrier or guardrail because you never know when an errant driver will just.
- 1:14:40Rear end you and that would be catastrophic.
- 1:14:42So at least he did step one.
- 1:14:43He got out of his vehicle.
- 1:14:44However, he sat behind his vehicle, assembled his drum set, and just
- 1:14:49began banging on them drums.
- 1:14:51I love the comment block on this.
- 1:14:53It's so hashtag dad jokes.
- 1:14:55And it's like.
- 1:14:56That's what I call a traffic jam.
- 1:14:59What possesses people to do stuff like this?
- 1:15:03Did he want to be a meme?
- 1:15:05Is that what it is?
- 1:15:06I mean, I would have loved to have passed that on 695.
- 1:15:09I don't know what I would have been.
- 1:15:10It would have been one of those double take moments.
- 1:15:12Did I just see that?
- 1:15:14No one would have believed you too.
- 1:15:16I would have been like, guys, you know what I just saw?
- 1:15:18I was on 695 and dude was drumming.
- 1:15:21He was on the shoulder with drums.
- 1:15:22Y'all been like, nah, you don't know what you saw.
- 1:15:25Uh huh.
- 1:15:26Uh huh.
- 1:15:26That right there?
- 1:15:27Right there?
- 1:15:28So this last one, we actually haven't gone across the ocean in a while.
- 1:15:32Ooh.
- 1:15:33So we're hopping the pond and we're going to Italy.
- 1:15:36Oh, is this our first Italian man?
- 1:15:38Well, no.
- 1:15:39So this isn't an Italian man.
- 1:15:40This is an American man.
- 1:15:42In Italy.
- 1:15:44What did they do to that poor fiat?
- 1:15:46Because you can bring the man out of Florida, but you can't bring the Florida.
- 1:15:52I'm not saying he was from Florida, but I'm not saying he wasn't from Florida.
- 1:15:55Oh, geez.
- 1:15:57Do not know where he's from.
- 1:15:58However, he, I guess, rented a Ferrari.
- 1:16:01Okay.
- 1:16:01As I'm sure you can do and decided in Florence, he was just going to
- 1:16:05like drive it out into a piazza.
- 1:16:08A piazza that cars don't go into.
- 1:16:10They just like park it, because obviously he's entitled.
- 1:16:12So That's a bold move, Cotton.
- 1:16:15They only gave him a 500 ticket.
- 1:16:17I mean, that's getting off pretty good.
- 1:16:19If you've ever dealt with European parking and how much it costs,
- 1:16:22that was probably a bargain.
- 1:16:23They made a big deal that it was a historic piazza.
- 1:16:25I'm like, everything in Italy is historic.
- 1:16:27So like, okay, next.
- 1:16:28Yeah, it's all ancient, right?
- 1:16:29I mean, come on.
- 1:16:30Be on the lookout.
- 1:16:31Aaron's Ferrari is driving into piazzas in Italy.
- 1:16:34You know what?
- 1:16:35He listened to our show.
- 1:16:37He heard about that other fool that drove down the Spanish steps and he
- 1:16:41got lost trying to find them because he wanted to drive the Ferrari down the
- 1:16:44Spanish steps like the other idiot did.
- 1:16:46He said, you know what?
- 1:16:47Screw it.
- 1:16:47There's a nice cafe bistro over here.
- 1:16:50I'm just going to grab lunch.
- 1:16:51Forget this noise.
- 1:16:52But that isn't it for Florida Man.
- 1:16:53So, breaking news for those of you Netflix subscribers out there.
- 1:16:57A limited series is coming on April 13th of this year.
- 1:17:00Yes, that's just a mere, what, two, three weeks away.
- 1:17:03And that series is Florida Man.
- 1:17:06No!
- 1:17:07It's not Tiger King rebadged, is it?
- 1:17:09No, so It looks like from the synopsis and from the preview, it actually has
- 1:17:16a plot line and the main character and it's taking place in Florida.
- 1:17:21And they're somehow going to bring in a lot of Florida man
- 1:17:24elements into what's going on.
- 1:17:26And how?
- 1:17:27You ask how?
- 1:17:28One of the shots in this trailer Was this woman that I think had like a cigarette
- 1:17:34lighter in her hairspray can and she turned it into a blowtorch and she
- 1:17:37was trying to scare this raccoon away.
- 1:17:40And the raccoon like was just sitting there.
- 1:17:42It was like, what you doing?
- 1:17:44They're bringing like crazy stuff in like that.
- 1:17:46I don't know.
- 1:17:47There's gotta be alligators.
- 1:17:48I don't know.
- 1:17:49It could be interesting.
- 1:17:51Too much like a reboot or continuation of that show.
- 1:17:55What was it called?
- 1:17:56My name is Earl.
- 1:17:57Do you remember that one?
- 1:18:00That's, that's what I'm feeling here.
- 1:18:01This is like ex cop.
- 1:18:02Who's now like in trouble with gambling.
- 1:18:05And so there's some sort of like mob thing going on.
- 1:18:08He's trying to get his life back on track and all this stuff.
- 1:18:10And he has got to go back to Florida and then the shit ensues.
- 1:18:15It's like the Florida man version of Magnum PI.
- 1:18:18What is this?
- 1:18:19I don't know what this is.
- 1:18:20But you know what?
- 1:18:21Our goal is to watch it before the next drive thru so we can talk about it.
- 1:18:24We will report back on Florida Man.
- 1:18:27The Netflix series.
- 1:18:28Maybe it has better luck than any of these Formula One shows
- 1:18:31they've been coming up with.
- 1:18:32Speaking of which, it's time we go behind the pit wall and
- 1:18:37talk about Motorsports News.
- 1:18:39As we noted the last time, Kimi is back with Trackhouse Racing to
- 1:18:43go drive a Chevy, which doesn't exist next year, in NASCAR.
- 1:18:47And then there's Jensen Button.
- 1:18:49And he's signed up to race three NASCAR Cup Series races this year.
- 1:18:53And I just kept wondering myself, is he already that bored with retirement?
- 1:18:57Yes.
- 1:18:58He's done a lot, right?
- 1:18:59He hasn't done this.
- 1:19:00Sure.
- 1:19:00Well, I mean, sports car, whatever.
- 1:19:02I have my biases.
- 1:19:03Good for him.
- 1:19:04I mean, there's been plenty of other Formula One drivers, Juan Pablo Montoya
- 1:19:07and others that have gone to NASCAR.
- 1:19:09So let's see what Button can do.
- 1:19:11He's got to pay for those old Nigel Mansell era race cars at some point.
- 1:19:15So, you know, whatever.
- 1:19:16They're not cheap.
- 1:19:17Meanwhile, in the glorious drama filled world of Formula U, the
- 1:19:21season is officially underway, right?
- 1:19:23We're two races in and it's not looking good.
- 1:19:27Oh, geez.
- 1:19:28What now?
- 1:19:29Not looking good if your name isn't Red Bull.
- 1:19:32Although I will say, Ashton Martin's doing pretty well.
- 1:19:36That's for sure.
- 1:19:37Alonzo has podium twice now this season for Aston Martin he switched
- 1:19:42over teams he left Alpine last season got the ride in Aston Martin the
- 1:19:46first race it was hilarious because in Bahrain I was dying when it was like
- 1:19:54turn two and stroll nearly took him out And I was like, here we go again.
- 1:20:01He rear ended him a little bit.
- 1:20:02He didn't even know they I, I think they probably purposely didn't tell
- 1:20:06him who did it 'cause he had no idea.
- 1:20:07I think they like told him at the end of the race 'cause he
- 1:20:09probably would've blown a gasket.
- 1:20:12No damage.
- 1:20:12Something like that.
- 1:20:13They kept going.
- 1:20:13He finished third in that race.
- 1:20:15He finished third in Juda, red Bull one two.
- 1:20:18The big shakeup was Perez beating out.
- 1:20:22Verstappen taking his, I think, fifth Formula One first place podium.
- 1:20:27A little drama there with the teams because Max had some
- 1:20:30issues during qualifying.
- 1:20:31Something broke or something or other.
- 1:20:33So he ended up like starting 15th, had to make his way back up through the crowd.
- 1:20:36He made it into second.
- 1:20:38There wasn't quite enough time to really challenge Perez and come in first.
- 1:20:42However, there were team orders to maintain pace and Verstappen
- 1:20:45was like, F that noise.
- 1:20:47I'm getting fastest lap so I can get that extra point.
- 1:20:49And be number one in the championship points, two races in.
- 1:20:53And that's exactly what happened.
- 1:20:55They actually gave orders to Perez.
- 1:20:56You're fine.
- 1:20:57Just keep your pace.
- 1:20:58And yeah, he was a little bit pissed about that.
- 1:21:01So some interesting team orders across all the teams too.
- 1:21:04There were lots of miscommunications.
- 1:21:06There was the penalty thing that happened with Alonso on this one.
- 1:21:09He.
- 1:21:10Started on the grid box slightly left.
- 1:21:12And so that was kind of a false start infringement and he had
- 1:21:15a five second penalty to serve.
- 1:21:17Served it under the full course yellow, which the rule book is just
- 1:21:21all sorts of all over the place on if that was legal or not or not.
- 1:21:25And so he finished third and then they took it away and then they reread the
- 1:21:28rules and somebody probably got paid.
- 1:21:30And so they put him back on the podium.
- 1:21:32So Mercedes didn't get a podium.
- 1:21:34And so there you go.
- 1:21:35He got his hundredth.
- 1:21:36Podium.
- 1:21:36He's in the century club on that one in his career.
- 1:21:39And there you go.
- 1:21:40Four or five Mercedes and Ferrari was somewhere right behind them in six, seven,
- 1:21:46they finished and they didn't catch fire.
- 1:21:48That's important.
- 1:21:49Those are two things this time, unlike in Bahrain, where Leclerc
- 1:21:54did suffer a mechanical failure and was not able to finish the race.
- 1:21:57So this is progress.
- 1:21:59Both cars did finish.
- 1:22:00They were once again in the top 10.
- 1:22:02So that is good news.
- 1:22:03No, for last time, we really dove deep into formula one, the
- 1:22:08tail end of last year, we had good news to share about Haas.
- 1:22:12You know, they picked up some new sponsors.
- 1:22:14Now they're allegedly sponsored by money.
- 1:22:16Graham, you know, there's a whole episode we devoted to that, but
- 1:22:19they picked up another sponsor and no, it's not gray Chevrolet.
- 1:22:23And if you're listening, we would like to be sponsored by you.
- 1:22:25Acai.
- 1:22:26Like, I didn't know you could be sponsored by fruit pulp that you
- 1:22:30put in a smoothie at Smoothie King.
- 1:22:32Acai is whatever.
- 1:22:34I don't know.
- 1:22:35They offer money.
- 1:22:35Is that how you pronounce it, by the way?
- 1:22:37Well, how did you want to pronounce it?
- 1:22:39I don't know.
- 1:22:39I'm just, I have no idea.
- 1:22:41I believe it's acai.
- 1:22:42It is acai.
- 1:22:44All seriousness, the parent company, Oakberry, becomes
- 1:22:47the official acai partner.
- 1:22:50Alongside of MoneyGram to the Haas Formula One team.
- 1:22:52And I'm like, good for them.
- 1:22:53You guys are picking up the weirdest sponsors you could possibly find.
- 1:22:57I mean, who's next?
- 1:22:58Maybe Charmin Toilet Paper will sponsor Haas.
- 1:23:01Not Rich Energy.
- 1:23:03Anybody but.
- 1:23:04I didn't even know Oakberry was a.
- 1:23:06I don't even know where their stores are.
- 1:23:09Maybe they just produce acai for, you know, Smoothie King
- 1:23:13or some of these other places.
- 1:23:15I mean, I don't know.
- 1:23:15There's a whole list of their official sponsors at the bottom.
- 1:23:19I mean, the ones you expect, Pirelli because of the tires and
- 1:23:21Alpine Star because of the driving suits and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:23:24There's some other weird Did you know that they're sponsored by Chipotle?
- 1:23:28No.
- 1:23:29The McDonald's.
- 1:23:30Right?
- 1:23:31I'm not really sure who the Palm Angels are or Open Seas or Hentik Markets.
- 1:23:36Like these are some really like random sponsors.
- 1:23:39I mean, I'm sure every team has like majors and minor sponsors, but I kind
- 1:23:42of just look at the size of the logos, especially on this press release.
- 1:23:46And like the MoneyGram one is just like.
- 1:23:48Ah, it's huge.
- 1:23:49But the rest of these, I don't know.
- 1:23:51I mean, if someone's giving you money, you don't turn your hand, right?
- 1:23:53Never bite the hand that feeds you, except if you're also trying to make
- 1:23:57money selling stuff to the Russians.
- 1:23:59Hmm.
- 1:24:00Hasan, a little bit of trouble.
- 1:24:02Granted, at the time they were selling stuff to the Russians.
- 1:24:07But they also had Russian sponsorship and a Russian driver
- 1:24:09and it was all before the war.
- 1:24:11And they're very adamant about delineating the timeline.
- 1:24:15As soon as the war happened, then they cut ties and got rid of the contract and
- 1:24:18got rid of the driver and everything and stopped selling equipment to the Russians.
- 1:24:23Do you really believe it?
- 1:24:24I do.
- 1:24:24I feel, I feel like this is, I feel like they're just grasping at headlines.
- 1:24:28To just get more notoriety and pick up some other obscure sponsor?
- 1:24:31Yeah.
- 1:24:33Speaking of notoriety.
- 1:24:34Yeah.
- 1:24:34Speaking of notoriety, yeah.
- 1:24:36There's an untold rivalry in Formula One that people want to bring to light.
- 1:24:40They wanna educate us on the battle between Gillsville, niv, and Peroni.
- 1:24:46Did you guys know this was a thing?
- 1:24:47I, I mean, I was a little young at the time that they were racing
- 1:24:51each other, so no, I wouldn't have appreciated it was a thing.
- 1:24:53I wasn't born.
- 1:24:56Yeah, but like, nobody even talks about this.
- 1:24:58It feels like the quietest rivalry nobody ever heard of.
- 1:25:02Are we just, again, to Brad's point, are we sort of grasping for Formula
- 1:25:06One drama to paint a picture of two guys that aren't even alive anymore?
- 1:25:10Yeah, I believe this is what they call a slow news cycle.
- 1:25:13Ah, that makes way more sense.
- 1:25:16Well, they're going to make a documentary about it.
- 1:25:18And when it comes out, why don't we take a look at it?
- 1:25:20Well, it's out already.
- 1:25:21The problem is it's not out in this country.
- 1:25:23So the question would be is if they will put it on the service that we could watch.
- 1:25:28Cause right now it's on a UK based service.
- 1:25:31I bet motorsport.
- 1:25:32tv will carry it or something like that, but you got to pay a premium for it.
- 1:25:35Popular in Formula One has always been very high everywhere outside of
- 1:25:39the United States, essentially, or at least in Europe, very high, right?
- 1:25:42So there's more.
- 1:25:43Like even then, maybe the popularity is even growing, right?
- 1:25:46So yes, there's probably to some extent people are trying to take
- 1:25:49advantage of the F1 train and making more of these documentaries.
- 1:25:52But on the other hand, like, why not?
- 1:25:54I mean, this is interesting stuff.
- 1:25:55It's a documentary, so a lot of it is real footage put together
- 1:25:58and that's kind of neat to see.
- 1:26:00The history and how it was back then and all that for sure.
- 1:26:03I mean, there's always opportunities to learn more things.
- 1:26:06And that's sort of the point of the show too, is it's those untold
- 1:26:09stories, bringing them to the surface.
- 1:26:11Everybody has a story.
- 1:26:12I am curious to dive further into this.
- 1:26:14It's sort of one of those, like.
- 1:26:15Uh, didn't really know that was a thing.
- 1:26:17So let's regroup on this at a later date and share it with our audience
- 1:26:21and see what we thought about the Villeneuve Perroni rivalry.
- 1:26:25I mean, I can't imagine it's up there with Hunt and Lauda or Proust and Senna.
- 1:26:30Fun facts.
- 1:26:31Apparently Didier Perroni's son, who.
- 1:26:35I believe he died before he was born.
- 1:26:38I don't think they were married, but his partner, whatever, named
- 1:26:41him Gilles in honor of Villeneuve.
- 1:26:44And he works on Mercedes as an engineer on Mercedes F1 team.
- 1:26:48So full circle in that family.
- 1:26:50Speaking of Formula One, I came across, admittedly, not listened to F1 Beyond
- 1:26:54the Grid podcast, but apparently they've done an interview with Alain Prost, which
- 1:27:01I don't know how often he does these.
- 1:27:03But pretty long podcast, cause it's almost an hour and I was scrolling
- 1:27:06through some of the other podcasts, which are much shorter, I have it in my
- 1:27:09download list at some point I will listen to it cause I'm kind of interested to
- 1:27:13see what they're going to talk about.
- 1:27:15I mean, when you have the professor on your show, I think you just let them talk.
- 1:27:20Your 30 minute format goes out the window when you have a celebrity
- 1:27:24of that caliber on the show.
- 1:27:25Yeah.
- 1:27:26I'm curious too.
- 1:27:27I hate to say morbid curiosity.
- 1:27:29I side on the SENA side of that rivalry.
- 1:27:32I don't know.
- 1:27:32Maybe we'll learn.
- 1:27:33thing or two.
- 1:27:34Brad, your charter this year has been to keep up with WRC news.
- 1:27:39So round three, Mexico just concluded.
- 1:27:43What do you think?
- 1:27:44I'm having a hard time staying interested if I'm going to be
- 1:27:49completely honest with you, as I've said numerous times, it's the coverage.
- 1:27:53I can't see enough of something to really bind somebody to
- 1:27:57like to root for or anything.
- 1:28:00It's, I don't know.
- 1:28:00I did think it was funny on, you know, what happened to
- 1:28:03the Fords on Friday though.
- 1:28:04Oh my god.
- 1:28:05And the cars pulling into Mexico, driving through that little
- 1:28:09city tunnel and everything.
- 1:28:10That was super cool.
- 1:28:12But I think the only way I'm really gonna find a way to get
- 1:28:15invested in Rally is going to one.
- 1:28:17That's a good option.
- 1:28:18I like that.
- 1:28:19You know, we've been talking about going to Pikes Peak.
- 1:28:21That's on the docket for next year at this point.
- 1:28:24It's not quite the same as the World Rally stages, but I'm telling you right now,
- 1:28:29if you were to actually watch the full coverage of a rally, you'd be so much
- 1:28:34more bored than just watching the recaps.
- 1:28:36And that's not because it isn't exciting.
- 1:28:38It's just overwhelming.
- 1:28:40And you would just be like, Oh my God, make this three days worth of content.
- 1:28:44Stop.
- 1:28:45That's why I was surprised.
- 1:28:46Mexico was so action packed, especially since.
- 1:28:49It hasn't been on the schedule in three years.
- 1:28:51And when they set the stage, they took us back to 2020 and they
- 1:28:54showed Oittanik's crash where he literally put his Fiesta underwater.
- 1:28:59And you just watch it sinking from the onboard GoPros.
- 1:29:03I'm like, this is.
- 1:29:04Beautiful.
- 1:29:05Like it was so awesome for me.
- 1:29:07And this is, again, this is just my personal opinion.
- 1:29:10I feel like it's the equivalent of coming into Grey's Anatomy now and missing the
- 1:29:17entire first 200 seasons of the show.
- 1:29:20That's what it feels like to me.
- 1:29:22I have no frame of reference.
- 1:29:23I have no historical knowledge or background on any of these drivers
- 1:29:27or anything or rally itself.
- 1:29:28I don't know what's going on.
- 1:29:30Completely lost.
- 1:29:31And I'm trying so hard.
- 1:29:33The coverage of the cars racing and stuff is cool.
- 1:29:35But as far as understanding what's going on, I have no idea.
- 1:29:39Just go with it.
- 1:29:40Just embrace it.
- 1:29:40Right.
- 1:29:41And maybe it's one of those things.
- 1:29:42If I just watch enough of it, it'll eventually click.
- 1:29:44And Mexico was interesting.
- 1:29:46It's very difficult.
- 1:29:47As you saw, it was Sebogier's.
- 1:29:50Race to lose, he's like, what, six time WRC Mexico winner, whatever
- 1:29:56he was going for, like, one more to like, really, you know, set him over
- 1:29:59the top, all this kind of thing.
- 1:30:00And like we talked about, he skipped the last one altogether.
- 1:30:02He's like, I don't even need to bother with that.
- 1:30:04So Seb was back.
- 1:30:06To your point, the Fords were having a terrible Friday.
- 1:30:09I mean, I love the commentator.
- 1:30:11There's a stage called El Choate and he goes, El Choate, the
- 1:30:15stage where the Pumas melted.
- 1:30:17And I was just like, it's so true, because every one of them had a failure
- 1:30:22of some catastrophic sort or another, some they could fix, you know, whatever.
- 1:30:27Yeah.
- 1:30:27The first one was that the, one of the turbo pipes, right?
- 1:30:29Oh yeah.
- 1:30:30Oix car.
- 1:30:31Just, just that the turbo just stopped working.
- 1:30:33He picked a terrible place to stop, by the way.
- 1:30:35I mean, right there with, with the dust, he's, he's like basically
- 1:30:39two or three feet off the circuit and nobody can see him.
- 1:30:42Yeah, it was terrible.
- 1:30:44I felt so bad for him.
- 1:30:45By the end of Friday, he was like seven and a half minutes behind.
- 1:30:49There is no coming back from that.
- 1:30:51There's literally WRC two cars that are finishing in front of you.
- 1:30:56Like that's how far back you are.
- 1:30:58And I felt bad for him, but then.
- 1:31:00Here we go.
- 1:31:01Crash it again.
- 1:31:02Takamoto.
- 1:31:03Did you see the role?
- 1:31:04He rolled the Yaris again.
- 1:31:06Again, this is like the second time in three races.
- 1:31:09At least he stopped driving this time.
- 1:31:11A hundred percent.
- 1:31:11Yeah.
- 1:31:12He didn't try to go while he was upside down.
- 1:31:13I don't know if it's bad luck or that just, he's more of like a rookie
- 1:31:17still or whatever, but I'm just like.
- 1:31:19Bro, I can't wait to see him roll it again.
- 1:31:21I mean, Yari Matalopoulos has got to be like pulling the, what's
- 1:31:24left of his hair out of his head because these cars aren't cheap.
- 1:31:27And for this guy to like destroy one, trying to remember his
- 1:31:30name now, he was like a Scotsman and he would do the same thing.
- 1:31:34Every time he came out, he would destroy a Citroen.
- 1:31:37Finally, after like six rounds, they cut him loose.
- 1:31:40Because they couldn't afford to keep replacing the cars and they brought in
- 1:31:42another driver and all this kind of stuff.
- 1:31:44And I'm like, here we go again.
- 1:31:46Takamoto, if he doesn't get this car on four wheels consistently,
- 1:31:50it's not going to end well for him this year, that's for sure.
- 1:31:53And then you got Esa Pekka Lappi.
- 1:31:54You're telling me that you can't get into it.
- 1:31:56A goddamn telephone pole landed on him.
- 1:32:00That wreck was out of control.
- 1:32:02Like, it happened so fast.
- 1:32:04And it knocked out the power in the area too.
- 1:32:06They literally had to red flag the rally.
- 1:32:08I mean, that's how bad it was because he's in the middle of the
- 1:32:10road with a U shape in his roof.
- 1:32:13Basically, the roll cage is holding this electrical telephone post from
- 1:32:17decapitating him in the navigator.
- 1:32:19But again, it happened so fast and it was so unexpected.
- 1:32:22He lost the back end of the car and he literally just
- 1:32:24backed into it at full speed.
- 1:32:26And that was all she wrote.
- 1:32:27It was just nuts.
- 1:32:28Absolutely nuts.
- 1:32:29So on top of that, the SCOTAs are still kicking butt in WRC2 and
- 1:32:33whoopie doo, because there were so many retirements, you know, and
- 1:32:36breakdowns and failures in this race.
- 1:32:39Seb won overall in Tierneyville podium.
- 1:32:41It's like, Whoa, okay, great.
- 1:32:43I felt like it was like y'all won by default and hopefully
- 1:32:46next time it gets better.
- 1:32:48I mean, I can't deny that the coverage is exciting, but as far as
- 1:32:51the championships and the drivers and stuff like that, I don't care
- 1:32:54about any, there's no Volkswagen.
- 1:32:56Well, that's the Skoda.
- 1:32:57That's in WRC2.
- 1:32:58I'm rooting for Hyundai right now.
- 1:33:01They are plagued with some issues because of the new hybrid system, but
- 1:33:05they were really strong last year.
- 1:33:07And Ford's got a new car.
- 1:33:09And M Sport has generally dominated.
- 1:33:11And I want to see them dethroned and Toyota is always the wild card.
- 1:33:15Like they're super consistent.
- 1:33:16They've had the same car forever.
- 1:33:18They're under new management, but the gazoo racing team knows how
- 1:33:20to put together a good race car.
- 1:33:22So it's a good fight between them, but I am rooting for the underdog.
- 1:33:26I am rooting for the Hyundai's in this case.
- 1:33:28I just want to see Terry Neuville get out of his own head and stop blaming the car
- 1:33:32and get back to driving kind of thing.
- 1:33:33But as a pack of lappy, as long as he stays away from telephone
- 1:33:36poles, he might be okay.
- 1:33:38By the way, folks, he walked away from that wreck.
- 1:33:40So amazing engineering in those cars to keep those drivers safe, that's for sure.
- 1:33:44Moving on to IMSA and WEC, really quick, I just wanna highlight
- 1:33:49something really, really important.
- 1:33:51You know, LeMans is about two months away.
- 1:33:54There are abouts, there are 16 hypercar in the LeMans field.
- 1:34:00Right now.
- 1:34:01That's pretty awesome.
- 1:34:02But you know, who's not going to be there.
- 1:34:05Acura and BMW.
- 1:34:07No, I'm rather disappointed in that.
- 1:34:09And I wonder if it has to do with their performance at Rolex.
- 1:34:13And, you know, obviously throughout the season so far, BMW was definitely
- 1:34:16lagging behind as we talked about and things like that, but all the other
- 1:34:20major players are coming Peugeot.
- 1:34:22Ferrari with the new four nine nine P Porsche with the nine 63.
- 1:34:26There's going to be some fantastic cars running out there.
- 1:34:29And again, my whole thing about this is I want to see Toyota dethroned,
- 1:34:35but it's anybody's game, right?
- 1:34:36It's anybody's game.
- 1:34:37And we saw some real promise out of Ferrari at the Sebring 12 hours.
- 1:34:42What did you guys think of that race?
- 1:34:44So I didn't watch the whole thing.
- 1:34:45I did tune in like right.
- 1:34:47After the lead Acura, one that was under all those penalties for
- 1:34:53alleged tire error, deflate gate, whatever you want to call it, issues
- 1:34:57at Daytona, that car lost a wheel.
- 1:35:00Whoopsies.
- 1:35:01So unfortunately they were out.
- 1:35:03But then what later happened in like the last basically 18 minutes of the
- 1:35:07race was left was just like carnage.
- 1:35:10Absolute carnage.
- 1:35:12And there's a short YouTube video that captures the three minute
- 1:35:16moment, if you will, and took out like six cars off the lead lap.
- 1:35:20It was insane.
- 1:35:21It was basically like all the lead cars got wiped out in the last
- 1:35:25remaining few laps of the race.
- 1:35:27It looked like one of our virtual racing leagues back in the day.
- 1:35:30Like it's like such a Forza move to do what they did.
- 1:35:33Was it a racing incident?
- 1:35:35The guy swerved from one side to the other thinking he was going to take the outside
- 1:35:39line, pass everybody on the outside.
- 1:35:42That inner car was moving over.
- 1:35:44One could argue to set up his turn to set up his turn, to be where he was.
- 1:35:49One minute, the dudes on his right, two cars away, it's nighttime.
- 1:35:53There's headlights.
- 1:35:53There were a bunch of cars right there, and the next second,
- 1:35:56dude's on his left, and the gap is closing to the grass, he goes off.
- 1:36:00He was done.
- 1:36:00There was no way.
- 1:36:01Like, I don't think he tried to be a torpedo.
- 1:36:04He wasn't stopping.
- 1:36:06But the best part, it looked like a video game, because it was like, all
- 1:36:09that stuff happened, and the double bump, and the guy's in the grass, and
- 1:36:12suddenly he ends up hitting him anyway.
- 1:36:14So you thought you got away from him, and nope, here he comes and broadsides you.
- 1:36:18Yeah, and you're not expecting that either, so that guy was like, probably
- 1:36:20like, the F just happened to me.
- 1:36:23Because he comes shooting through the grass, onto the track, over
- 1:36:27the track and just T bones him off the other side of the track.
- 1:36:29It looked like a Forza round.
- 1:36:31I'm telling you, it was just, I couldn't believe it.
- 1:36:33I watched it so many times.
- 1:36:34I was like, this is unreal.
- 1:36:36But the only camera angle that really showed What happened was luckily the
- 1:36:41helicopter view because all the other ones were super deceiving as to what
- 1:36:45it made it look like some BS stuff was happening where it was intentional and
- 1:36:49all this, but like the helicopter view was like, pretty clear where it was like,
- 1:36:53this was an unfortunate racing incident.
- 1:36:55I don't think.
- 1:36:56That guy intended to cause an accident.
- 1:36:59And what was funny is the commentators climbing all over it.
- 1:37:02They finally were like, all right, we, we got to backpedal.
- 1:37:08We got to retract like everything we just said, because we
- 1:37:10just saw the helicopter view.
- 1:37:12Uh, so sorry.
- 1:37:13It looked really bad from like in car, like track level footage, but
- 1:37:17from the helicopter footage, it was like, Oh damn, this was really just an
- 1:37:20unfortunate accident that created a.
- 1:37:24That's sort of the funny part about those commentators.
- 1:37:26It's sort of like, look before you leap on that one.
- 1:37:28They were taken by surprise.
- 1:37:30They're going to have a delay and when they're getting the footage too.
- 1:37:32Yeah.
- 1:37:33Well, there's one more bit of motor sports news to share with you.
- 1:37:37And that is the 2023.
- 1:37:39Cardboard classic.
- 1:37:41If you've never seen this before, I cannot recommend these videos enough.
- 1:37:45I got to thank one of our Patreon supporters, Sean, for sending this
- 1:37:49to us every year, because I tend to forget about it, but then when it
- 1:37:53comes full circle, I just love it.
- 1:37:55And I got to say, there's one part of this video I think is epic.
- 1:37:58I want to see the build out on this cardboard vehicle and
- 1:38:01it's at the minute 21 mark.
- 1:38:03These guys built a full.
- 1:38:05back to the future DeLorean and send it down this ice luge, shoot,
- 1:38:10whatever you want to call it.
- 1:38:11That DeLorean was epic.
- 1:38:12That guy spent a lot of time on that.
- 1:38:14It looked good.
- 1:38:14I'd hate to send it down and crash down the ski slope thingy.
- 1:38:18And you didn't even get to see it run.
- 1:38:19You only sort of got to see it.
- 1:38:21I did love the working Gullwing doors.
- 1:38:23That was so awesome.
- 1:38:24I'm like the amount of detail he put into that to run it down and basically.
- 1:38:27Hopefully not obliterate it before it got to the end.
- 1:38:30You got to transport something like that in an enclosed trailer.
- 1:38:33How are you going to put that back on an open closed trailer?
- 1:38:34Put it sideways on the back of an F 150.
- 1:38:37That's how you transport it.
- 1:38:38It's cardboard.
- 1:38:38Don't weigh that much.
- 1:38:39Exactly.
- 1:38:40Don't blow away at 60 miles an hour.
- 1:38:44perpendicular out the back of a Malibu or something, you know, it's all good.
- 1:38:48If you've never seen these before, I mean, they range from mundane to insane
- 1:38:53on the scale of these cardboard creations.
- 1:38:55And they send all sorts of people down on these things.
- 1:38:58It's just nuts.
- 1:38:59Where does this happen?
- 1:39:00Poconos.
- 1:39:01We should totally do this.
- 1:39:02Yeah, we should go there.
- 1:39:03I don't, I don't think I want to participate.
- 1:39:05No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:39:06We should compete.
- 1:39:07With what?
- 1:39:07You build a cardboard 914.
- 1:39:11See how that only fits two people.
- 1:39:13They got, some of these, they got like a school bus of people going down.
- 1:39:16Yeah.
- 1:39:16And then on the other guy, it looks like he's just going down on a sled.
- 1:39:19Those did the best.
- 1:39:20So there was one where it was like 30 people, a flat sheet of cardboard.
- 1:39:25It's like all that weight, real stable.
- 1:39:28So you guys are winning.
- 1:39:30This reminds me of the Red Bull fluke talk.
- 1:39:33Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:39:35And to Tanya's point, there's something to be said about simplicity and design.
- 1:39:38You know what I mean?
- 1:39:39That flat sheet of cardboard.
- 1:39:41But yes, the Flutog, I missed the Flutog.
- 1:39:43It's another reason to watch Red Bull TV.
- 1:39:45I think GTM needs to commission a vehicle for this.
- 1:39:48I think we should do it.
- 1:39:49I'm going to get project motoring on this.
- 1:39:51I got it.
- 1:39:52I know exactly what we're going to build.
- 1:39:53Pontiac Aztec.
- 1:39:54Oh yeah.
- 1:39:55Oh yeah.
- 1:39:56Cardboard Pontiac Aztec.
- 1:39:57It's even the right color.
- 1:39:59It's like middle aged beige.
- 1:40:03Greige.
- 1:40:04Just like Heisenberg.
- 1:40:05Yes.
- 1:40:06On that, we should probably wrap up with some local news and events.
- 1:40:10Upcoming local news and events brought to us by CollectorCarGuide.
- 1:40:14net, the ultimate reference for car enthusiasts.
- 1:40:17So let's see what's coming up for April.

- 1:40:58And tons more events like this and all their details are available
- 1:41:02over at CollectorCarGuide.
- 1:41:04net.
- 1:41:04That's right, and now it's time for our HPDJunkie.
- 1:41:07com Trackside Report.
- 1:41:08So what's coming out here early spring?
- 1:41:11Well, the track season has begun.
- 1:41:13It started as early as the beginning of March here on the East Coast.
- 1:41:17The time trialers over at EMRA, the Eastern Motor Racing Association,
- 1:41:21kick off their time trial season at Lime Rock Park on the 1st of April.
- 1:41:26They've switched up.
- 1:41:27Their season this year, they're predominantly running at Lime Rock
- 1:41:30and Pocono kind of alternating between the two locations for an
- 1:41:33action packed time trial season.
- 1:41:35Meanwhile, the Washington DC region of SCCA kicks off their series of
- 1:41:40autocross schools on April the 1st with others peppered throughout the year.
- 1:41:44So it's not just a one time autocross school.
- 1:41:46If you want to get involved in that, not only that BMW car club of America
- 1:41:50is also kicking off their series of autocross schools on the 15th of April.
- 1:41:55So check out both of their websites.
- 1:41:57To see how you can get involved in that discipline of motorsport.
- 1:42:00As Brad mentioned, the IMRRC is holding their eighth annual model
- 1:42:04car show after the green Grand Prix.
- 1:42:06And the green Grand Prix is in its 18th year and will be held on
- 1:42:11April the 14th, which is a Friday at Watkins Glenn international.
- 1:42:15I will be personally participating in it with my alternative fuel vehicle,
- 1:42:20and I'll be live streaming from the track and throughout the event.
- 1:42:25So tune into our Twitch channel, twitch.
- 1:42:27tv forward slash grand touring motorsports for live coverage of the green Grand Prix.
- 1:42:33We talked about legislation earlier, the performance racing industry, PRI
- 1:42:39in conjunction with SEMA and others is working to pass legislation.
- 1:42:43That's one step closer to law in West Virginia, especially at
- 1:42:47our home track of Summit Point.
- 1:42:49Virginia lawmakers are working to support a PRI supported legislation that
- 1:42:54was established called the Motorsports Responsibility Act, which would define
- 1:42:58areas of responsibility and assumed risks by participants for recreational
- 1:43:02and commercial motorsports facilities.
- 1:43:04What this really means is it's going to reduce.
- 1:43:07The liability insurance premiums allowing racing venues to invest the savings that
- 1:43:14they're getting for promotional purposes, you know, tourism, other things like that.
- 1:43:18Hopefully this will translate into cheaper track day weekends, not only
- 1:43:23for the organizers of track day events, but then the trickle down effect is that
- 1:43:29because the tracks insurance is cheaper by proxy, the organizers insurance
- 1:43:33should also be commiserate to that.
- 1:43:36Again, hopefully making track day weekends a little bit more affordable since the
- 1:43:40prices have gone up over the last couple of seasons due to COVID and other things.
- 1:43:45So to learn more about that, you can check out performance racing.
- 1:43:48com for all the details, or check out our show notes for the link.
- 1:43:51We talk a lot about EVs on this show and in the HPD and club racing
- 1:43:56world, we wonder all the time, are we going to see more EVs at
- 1:44:00the track every once in a while?
- 1:44:02There's a guy with a Tesla, you know, they get about 20 minutes
- 1:44:05and then they got to find a charger and all this kinds of thing.
- 1:44:07And they have a hard time being out there with the rest of us.
- 1:44:10Ice powered folks.
- 1:44:11Well, there's three tracks in this country right now that are taking
- 1:44:14a major push into making EVs.
- 1:44:17More accepted at the racetracks, two of which we've run at many times at
- 1:44:21the past VIR, Virginia International Raceway and Lime Rock have made the list
- 1:44:27along with Button Willow being at the pointy end of the progress here to make
- 1:44:31sure that the tracks have more chargers available to folks that want to come
- 1:44:36and enjoy their EVs on the racetrack.
- 1:44:38So look forward to more enhancements in the future coming from those locations
- 1:44:42and hopefully more as we move forward with EVs in racing in the future.
- 1:44:46The next HOD Southeast event is Thursday, April the 6th at Sebring.
- 1:44:51While Hooked on Driving Northeast will be at New Jersey Motorsports
- 1:44:53Park on Saturday, April the 8th.
