- 0:11Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. Appreciate a little wrap up of the picks
- 0:16Speaker 1: for the Patriots. Yeah that says it all, doesn't it?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Right there the big side. Do you think if they
- 0:22Speaker 1: took Jimmy Johnson people would have said, well, they must
- 0:24Speaker 1: not have liked them that much because they didn't trade
- 0:26Speaker 1: up to get him. Angry little dudes. Yeah, he was angry.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Angry dude. That's my favorite dues. I don't know about
- 0:30Speaker 1: anybody else. Well, don't put me in the box of
- 0:32Speaker 1: like I'm just the whole. Every graph was great, Like,
- 0:35Speaker 1: let me, can I come at you for a second.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Come on? Maybe two months looking at draft boards and
- 0:39Speaker 1: starting to feel like, you know how things should You're
- 0:43Speaker 1: all right, you don't have to be that mad about it. Fred,
- 0:47Speaker 1: excuse me for a defensive line guy, but he was
- 0:50Speaker 1: their quarterback of Houston and Miami. Oh boy, Oh, put
- 0:55Speaker 1: down the cigarettes. Paul Paulo's home. He's a chain smoker,
- 0:57Speaker 1: just like one after another. Can a guy get all value?
- 1:02Speaker 1: I'd rather fight than switch. This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled
- 1:07Speaker 1: by Duncan. All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is
- 1:12Speaker 1: Thursday here at Gillett's Stadium, and the gang's all here
- 1:16Speaker 1: for the next two hours talking Patriots. Mike, Eric, Paul, Me, Mike,
- 1:21Speaker 1: Matt and the booth. Deuce you don't like going by Mike, Ronnie,
- 1:25Speaker 1: It's fine, Ricky and Mike. I prefer to be Deuce
- 1:30Speaker 1: de tran School. Yeah, sexual desault great one. Never never
- 1:36Speaker 1: really caught on for Sson. I'm sure I would like you,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I would deuce. But there's there's a music video in
- 1:47Speaker 1: there somewhere, Mike. They call me sexual dessault. Do they will?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Would be like my first album titled like you know
- 1:53Speaker 1: Mike do so it's a sexual dessault. You know me
- 1:55Speaker 1: kind of like looking looking sexy on the front right,
- 1:58Speaker 1: like Keith Sweat over there. It's exactly exactly, that's perfect.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Mike's idea of being sexy is having his card agant
- 2:06Speaker 1: sweater on, button, a little little chest hair. You know.
- 2:11Speaker 1: This is the fastest remember going. All right, but we're
- 2:15Speaker 1: still in the after glow of the draft. Glow for
- 2:20Speaker 1: some people, not so much a glow as a burn.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Maybe but I think you just settle in that these
- 2:25Speaker 1: are the guys you got, and you start, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 1: over analyzing who went where and when, and these are
- 2:31Speaker 1: the players that you want to see next month when
- 2:32Speaker 1: you get out at OTAs to to get a glimpse of,
- 2:35Speaker 1: you know, where they line up. I mean last year
- 2:37Speaker 1: it was great getting to see Mac. I think that
- 2:39Speaker 1: was just a highlight to see a rookie quarterback in
- 2:41Speaker 1: training camp. I don't know if it gets any better
- 2:43Speaker 1: than that, but it'll be uh, they know it'll be interesting,
- 2:46Speaker 1: especially Thornton. I mean it's hard to say with like
- 2:48Speaker 1: strange um, you know, in OTAs you're not really going
- 2:52Speaker 1: to get much kind of insight into into how he's doing.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But I just I'm excited to see Thornton run and
- 2:58Speaker 1: that looks like on the field, Like like exactly what
- 3:01Speaker 1: what does that look like? Because we haven't seen that
- 3:03Speaker 1: in a while. Yeah, tall guy, Yeah, skinny drinker. Not
- 3:07Speaker 1: to play Matt grows side of the fence here, But
- 3:10Speaker 1: that's the whole thing. You Like, we've been clamoring for
- 3:13Speaker 1: fast guys. Yeah, let's see what fast guys look like. Strong,
- 3:16Speaker 1: strong Jones. You know who's back, who's who's back doing
- 3:20Speaker 1: the returning? What does what does that look like? From Jones?
- 3:22Speaker 1: And so there'll be something seen, some things to say
- 3:26Speaker 1: to see. Absolutely, we'll get a chance in a few weeks, right, yeah, yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 1: end of the month, end of the month, beginning of
- 3:33Speaker 1: next month. Yeah, he's made twenty seventh and then in
- 3:36Speaker 1: the Mini camp and so I think we get like
- 3:38Speaker 1: we get about about a half dozen. Yeah, sometimes they
- 3:41Speaker 1: cut that last one off. Sometimes they don't. It's last
- 3:44Speaker 1: year they didn't, which was unfortunate. Now yeah, a half
- 3:47Speaker 1: dozen or so. Yeah, Yeah, that's gonna That was what
- 3:49Speaker 1: I was going to ask. I'm having trouble talking to
- 3:51Speaker 1: day Uh because it was seemed weird to me. I
- 3:54Speaker 1: thought always that the Mini camp was the rap, but
- 3:55Speaker 1: then that was like that lingering. Last weeks been a
- 4:00Speaker 1: wrap around week where I don't know if if they
- 4:03Speaker 1: change the timing, but yeah, we've had Mini Camp and
- 4:07Speaker 1: then like another round of OTAs. Yeah. The only thing
- 4:10Speaker 1: that couple year, the only thing I can figure is
- 4:12Speaker 1: maybe in the past, like you're right, in the past,
- 4:13Speaker 1: it was Mini Camp and that was the mandatory part,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and as soon as that was over, sometimes they'd even
- 4:18Speaker 1: chop that short like it would be two days and
- 4:21Speaker 1: they'd be like, oh, we did what we came to do.
- 4:23Speaker 1: We're gonna, you know, call it a day, and then
- 4:25Speaker 1: they'd be off for the summer. I wonder if if
- 4:29Speaker 1: particularly Bill wanted a chance to if Mini Camp doesn't
- 4:33Speaker 1: go the way he wants, he still has another like
- 4:36Speaker 1: in his back pocket, like we've still got a couple
- 4:38Speaker 1: more days we can clean things up. Also, during the
- 4:42Speaker 1: time where Mini Camp was the last thing, wasn't it
- 4:44Speaker 1: a little later in June, Like yeah, mid June, and
- 4:47Speaker 1: now Mini Camp is earlier. Yeah, you know, yeah, yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 1: I don't You might be right. I don't have the
- 4:51Speaker 1: exact dates, but I think that they're all the same,
- 4:55Speaker 1: Like the Mini Camp is the same as OTAs. It's
- 4:57Speaker 1: just oh yeah, there's just there's just three days that
- 5:00Speaker 1: they have to be the only reason why it's known
- 5:03Speaker 1: as something different, right, they're all the same. Yeah, it's
- 5:05Speaker 1: same type of practice. It's just mandatory for everybody, and
- 5:08Speaker 1: it's all part of a program that it it increases,
- 5:12Speaker 1: you know, as it goes. So for whatever reason, they
- 5:16Speaker 1: have an OTA session after Mini Camp. Now, I think
- 5:19Speaker 1: it might be with the I don't know this for sure,
- 5:23Speaker 1: but the CBA when the most recent one was done,
- 5:26Speaker 1: may have changed the timing of when you can start.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And based on all of that, there's you know more
- 5:32Speaker 1: and you know more time to do it. I don't
- 5:34Speaker 1: know why they don't just have the mandatory mini camp last,
- 5:37Speaker 1: because they could do that if they wanted to. That's
- 5:39Speaker 1: how they used to do it. So I don't I
- 5:40Speaker 1: don't know exactly why it's it's done that way. But
- 5:45Speaker 1: Bill always says that you know, all of the you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: teaching teaching camps not but he always says it's all
- 5:51Speaker 1: part of the process. It's part of the Do you
- 5:53Speaker 1: think Bill's thinking is if I make the last thing mandatory,
- 5:57Speaker 1: that's what people will show up for, or if I
- 6:00Speaker 1: make like that, if I make the second the last
- 6:03Speaker 1: thing mandatory, well but you have to come to this,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you might as well stay for the dessert. Yeah. I
- 6:08Speaker 1: like that. They could be Yeah, it could be interesting
- 6:11Speaker 1: to see who shows up. And you know which of
- 6:13Speaker 1: the injured guys that ended the season on IRRE. You
- 6:18Speaker 1: know it's James White out there. I mean, I know,
- 6:21Speaker 1: actually Cameron mcgrowan, Josh Blood, so those guys both practiced
- 6:23Speaker 1: towards the end though they didn't activate mcgrown. No, but
- 6:25Speaker 1: they did practice for the But you know, like even
- 6:28Speaker 1: like remember Dalton Keene last year, it was like he's
- 6:30Speaker 1: just just on the bike. Kind of a sign of
- 6:33Speaker 1: things to come. Guys like that, Yeah, get a health
- 6:36Speaker 1: status on on like ray Kuan McMillan. I know, I
- 6:39Speaker 1: did a little list of guys to look for. Run
- 6:41Speaker 1: it down, terres Hall, James White, Wow, terres Hall, we
- 6:44Speaker 1: need to do it. We didn't see him a health
- 6:46Speaker 1: check on him? Is he even around? I mean I
- 6:48Speaker 1: wouldn't even recognize him. Henry Anderson, Jonathan Jones, Longi, Dalton Keene,
- 6:53Speaker 1: Ray Kuan McMillan, Jennings Coward, Jabrill Peppers problem, what did
- 6:58Speaker 1: you go up towards the end of the season forgot
- 7:00Speaker 1: what he? I think he was okay to come back.
- 7:01Speaker 1: They just didn't activate them. Maybe he's not one, but
- 7:05Speaker 1: you know, Jabrill Pepper's coming off an ACL. I mean
- 7:07Speaker 1: that's a significant one to kind of keep an eye on.
- 7:10Speaker 1: All right, and other news. May twelfth, a week from today,
- 7:15Speaker 1: schedule will be coming out. Oh yeah, Eric, I'm very happy.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I'm I like, I like when the schedule comes out,
- 7:21Speaker 1: it's it's my thing. Okay, it's my thing, but well
- 7:23Speaker 1: it's I do. I like to find out how many
- 7:26Speaker 1: night games, and you know how they spread it out
- 7:28Speaker 1: where we're going, that kind of stuff, when we're going,
- 7:30Speaker 1: and and well, the preseason schedule come out earlier. I
- 7:32Speaker 1: was talking to Paul in the past. It usually came
- 7:35Speaker 1: a little before, right, I expect that early next week.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Usually it comes out before, but sometimes sometimes after. Well,
- 7:41Speaker 1: sometimes you'll get the opponents and not the time because
- 7:45Speaker 1: they're still negotiating what time, you know, and how much
- 7:49Speaker 1: input did the teams have on the preseason games. It's
- 7:52Speaker 1: opponents quite quite a bit some Yeah, as opposed to
- 7:55Speaker 1: the actual regular season. Yeah, they do have input because
- 7:59Speaker 1: a lot of it is like you've got your your
- 8:01Speaker 1: your familiarity thing like the Jets, I mean, excuse me,
- 8:04Speaker 1: the Giants and the Patriots. They always want to be
- 8:07Speaker 1: the last for each other because that's the shortest road
- 8:09Speaker 1: trip for both of them. It's just it's an easy thing.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So they want to coordinate with coaches who know each other,
- 8:16Speaker 1: who want to do the joint practices, that kind of thing. So,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and then I don't think the league like grants every
- 8:22Speaker 1: single request. That's given, but I think they try to
- 8:24Speaker 1: accommodate as many of them as possible. Yea, and everybody
- 8:26Speaker 1: wants to stay pretty close to each other, right, do
- 8:28Speaker 1: you want to limit the hassle? I mean it's like, yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 1: I remember back in the day, like playing Green Bay
- 8:34Speaker 1: in the preseason, the Patriots would go to green Bay.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Like I even thought that was like a little like, wow,
- 8:39Speaker 1: that's kind of weird, like they're going all the way
- 8:40Speaker 1: out to green Bay for the preseason. San Francisco even
- 8:44Speaker 1: was that when Parcels was here, think, you know what,
- 8:49Speaker 1: that's I had didn't think of that. Yeah, that's probably
- 8:53Speaker 1: that's probably the reason, having quite a show sharp sh
- 9:00Speaker 1: he knows sure, but that's probably exactly why went to
- 9:03Speaker 1: to Lambeau because of his relationship with um ron Wolf
- 9:07Speaker 1: and he also I remember he used to say, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 1: even in the preseason, Lambo is a different environment and
- 9:12Speaker 1: he had a young team that he's trying to build,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and that was part of his mentality. But I'm sure
- 9:17Speaker 1: ron Wolf was a big part of that made it easier,
- 9:19Speaker 1: just you know, working together, and we heard rumors of
- 9:23Speaker 1: some joint practices this year. Caroline, Caroline, that's that's still
- 9:28Speaker 1: hasn't been expanded upon from that, I think it was
- 9:30Speaker 1: it was a Joe person that wrote that. Well, it
- 9:33Speaker 1: was what's his name? The coach rule mentioned it at
- 9:36Speaker 1: the owners meeting last monster yea, excuse me in March
- 9:40Speaker 1: now that I forgot exactly how he said it, but
- 9:43Speaker 1: he basically said, you know, we're working on having a
- 9:45Speaker 1: joint press. Still don't know if they're going to be
- 9:47Speaker 1: The practices will be here or in Charlotte, right yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I think it was a giant stadium, right yeah, with
- 9:54Speaker 1: Dable that I would make sense to do. Last year
- 9:58Speaker 1: where what was it last year they practice there, so
- 10:04Speaker 1: they be to be the opposite. Yeah, we'll practice there.
- 10:07Speaker 1: You know right now, you know we're already down to
- 10:09Speaker 1: three preseason games. I can guarantee you we're gonna go
- 10:12Speaker 1: up to eight teen regular season games and we'll go
- 10:15Speaker 1: down to two preseason games. And when that happens, I
- 10:19Speaker 1: think you'll see even more joint practices during the summer
- 10:23Speaker 1: for all teams. I would even make up for that.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I would venture to say that it would be almost mandatory,
- 10:29Speaker 1: like you kind of have to, like the coaches are
- 10:31Speaker 1: going to be like, look, if you only give us
- 10:32Speaker 1: two games. We have to do more than just play
- 10:34Speaker 1: the two games you have to give them. We have
- 10:36Speaker 1: to do more than just playing against ourselves. But if
- 10:38Speaker 1: they do too, like they if they've done two for
- 10:41Speaker 1: the most part, um, do you mean how many more?
- 10:44Speaker 1: And that's what they'll do. I'm just we have, but
- 10:46Speaker 1: not every team does. I'm talking about. I think it'll
- 10:50Speaker 1: be common practice for every team, agree, you know, Yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 1: I mean, would you just practice with a team and
- 10:54Speaker 1: not play them in a preseason game? I mean that's
- 10:56Speaker 1: easy enough with the Giants being close. If you're not
- 10:59Speaker 1: even gonna play each they're just to practice. There's a
- 11:02Speaker 1: lot of stuff you just want to do, yeah, internally,
- 11:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Yeah, so yeah, you need
- 11:07Speaker 1: you need that private time. I think it makes sense
- 11:09Speaker 1: for the week of the preseason game though, to like
- 11:12Speaker 1: work with the team, you know, because it's kind of
- 11:14Speaker 1: like and and and glorified practice for the fans too. Yeah, totally.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It's the best for the fans, especially here where everything's free,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, the parking, the admission. I think I think
- 11:23Speaker 1: if they've practiced with the Giants again, I'm just gonna
- 11:25Speaker 1: be watching Joe Judge the whole time to see what
- 11:27Speaker 1: that awkwardness is all about throughout the field everywhere does
- 11:31Speaker 1: he just stand like opposite end, doesn't interact with it.
- 11:34Speaker 1: It's just has that ever happened? Really? Like a guy
- 11:37Speaker 1: right after he gets fired is then and then you
- 11:40Speaker 1: not just coaching against them. It's like joint practices. There's
- 11:42Speaker 1: some right mingling. There's well, the Giants did it when
- 11:45Speaker 1: they hired Um Garrett is their offensive coordinator, so he
- 11:49Speaker 1: faced the Cowboys well in the game. But yeah, like
- 11:53Speaker 1: a joint practice where familiar you know, you know there's
- 11:56Speaker 1: some you know, glad handing before the practice, people walking around, Hey,
- 11:59Speaker 1: how you know slap off the top of my head.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I can't either. No, it's kind of random, but that
- 12:05Speaker 1: that would be interesting. We'll be up on our perch
- 12:08Speaker 1: and just to do the judge cam. Maybe that just
- 12:11Speaker 1: followed him, like we never had a joint practice against
- 12:13Speaker 1: Denver when Josh was back, or you know, I'm trying
- 12:16Speaker 1: to think of people who left and then came back
- 12:19Speaker 1: like that or not even was here, just left their
- 12:23Speaker 1: team and then was on this team. And then we
- 12:25Speaker 1: had yeah, I mean we had Patricia come from Detroit,
- 12:28Speaker 1: but we didn't you know, we had the joint practice
- 12:30Speaker 1: with Detroit, but then he came back here and they
- 12:32Speaker 1: didn't go right. Detroit's right, right, that would have been
- 12:35Speaker 1: an example if we had right. He's just standing next
- 12:37Speaker 1: to Dable being like, I know, I know, this is
- 12:38Speaker 1: what I was dealing with. I told I think, look
- 12:42Speaker 1: with all due respected Christmas. That's what got we look
- 12:46Speaker 1: out for two to see if we're on Christmas Day. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 1: that that's one thing that could happen. Then we talked
- 12:53Speaker 1: about the you know to West Coast, you know in
- 12:58Speaker 1: Vegas to you know, lumped those together and they spend
- 13:01Speaker 1: a week out the desert southwest desert, southwest souse. You
- 13:05Speaker 1: got it from me, Thank you, Deuce. It's contagious, yeah, desert.
- 13:08Speaker 1: So there's you know, there's some things to keep our
- 13:10Speaker 1: eyes on when the schedule comes out. Yeah, that Vegas
- 13:13Speaker 1: game is gonna be a popular one. Now. Oh yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I'm sure our marketing uh department has already planned out
- 13:19Speaker 1: a junkt to that one. So that's it. Yeah, I
- 13:22Speaker 1: mean I wonder if they will do that, you know,
- 13:25Speaker 1: match up Arizona in Vegas. Now, how I'm gonna imagine
- 13:29Speaker 1: teams ask for that kind of stuff do. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:31Speaker 1: they did. Now that stuff is definitely not always honored.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I know there was a team last year that specifically
- 13:38Speaker 1: asked for something, it didn't get it, and they were
- 13:40Speaker 1: pissy about it. I figured who it was. There was
- 13:42Speaker 1: actually you remember, no Way du you weren't here yet.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Obviously it was on the West Coast and I had
- 13:46Speaker 1: that year. We had the four game four times, right,
- 13:50Speaker 1: you remember this, Fred, We had the four West Coast
- 13:51Speaker 1: to go to all four, No I was I went
- 13:54Speaker 1: to you went to San Diego and Seattle. Right, I
- 13:56Speaker 1: went to San Diego and Seattle. I didn't go to
- 13:58Speaker 1: it to the Raiders and then forty nine. But the
- 14:00Speaker 1: schedule comes out. We already knew, I mean, we knew
- 14:03Speaker 1: the opponents and we asked for let's just say that
- 14:07Speaker 1: the Patriots asked for those two to be back to
- 14:10Speaker 1: back in separate. So we had one in October and
- 14:12Speaker 1: one in December. And I think like everybody in the
- 14:15Speaker 1: AFC East had that same opponent's schedule. So other teams
- 14:20Speaker 1: like the Jets had four West Coast games two didn't
- 14:23Speaker 1: think to ask, I guess or whatever, and had all
- 14:26Speaker 1: four theirs at different times, so they had to do
- 14:28Speaker 1: the four trips. They complained to the league, and then
- 14:32Speaker 1: the next year or the year after, the league made
- 14:34Speaker 1: a change to the schedules, saying, so like, we were
- 14:37Speaker 1: supposed to have played Kansas City, I believe in the
- 14:40Speaker 1: Monday night game where that the Shoemaker quarterback came in.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Not Mike Kafka, but there was some it was a
- 14:46Speaker 1: Monday night game over here, Tyler Palco, thank you. We
- 14:50Speaker 1: were supposed to play that game, I believe in Kansas City.
- 14:53Speaker 1: But because there was it was a rule now if
- 14:55Speaker 1: you have more than three West Coast games, you have
- 14:57Speaker 1: to change whatever. So because the Jets it's bitched about
- 15:00Speaker 1: not being able to do what we did, it got
- 15:03Speaker 1: changed and everything. So but I think they've remembering all
- 15:06Speaker 1: the Kyler Palco, I remember. Yeah, I have no knowledge
- 15:11Speaker 1: recollection of anything. Well, but you just said other than
- 15:13Speaker 1: the fact that we played two sets of West Coast
- 15:17Speaker 1: games you o wait, oh wait, oh wait o wait. Yeah,
- 15:20Speaker 1: that's the only part of that. In fairness, I write
- 15:22Speaker 1: the schedule analysis every year, so that's part of what
- 15:26Speaker 1: I had to write about. Was because my job that
- 15:27Speaker 1: was the story of that. I like to keep that up.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I will keep it up? I like doing you keep
- 15:32Speaker 1: that up? I do? It's I mean it's something like
- 15:35Speaker 1: analyzing a schedule other than when like the Felgren mask,
- 15:39Speaker 1: think win, why don't do that? But well, as a fan,
- 15:43Speaker 1: I was looking at it for, especially as a fan
- 15:46Speaker 1: in the West Coast, what games can I make? Um?
- 15:48Speaker 1: And now it's about what games am I staying up
- 15:51Speaker 1: late for? Where the short turnarounds? Where's the like Sunday
- 15:54Speaker 1: late night followed by a Thursday game? Like what are
- 15:56Speaker 1: the what are the grind parts? Oh? Yeah? Yeah? When
- 15:59Speaker 1: the first thing we look for all the time, right,
- 16:00Speaker 1: how many night games do we have? Any games? And
- 16:02Speaker 1: how they coincide with anything that I might have to do? No,
- 16:06Speaker 1: but no, but yeah, you know, and you never know.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I and people don't care about our personal lives, but
- 16:14Speaker 1: like there are different games and whatnot from my kids
- 16:16Speaker 1: that I want to make sure that I'm around for
- 16:18Speaker 1: and yeah, depending like you know, if you had a
- 16:21Speaker 1: like a you know, like a Thursday night game and
- 16:24Speaker 1: then there's a Friday game the next day, Like you know,
- 16:27Speaker 1: it's not not ideal, as they say, it's not ideal, sure,
- 16:30Speaker 1: stuff like that. You always want to look and see
- 16:32Speaker 1: how those all coincide. Another little content teas are related
- 16:35Speaker 1: to the schedule. Um, I'm gonna be doing a uh
- 16:39Speaker 1: top to bottom ranking of all the road trips in
- 16:42Speaker 1: the NFL. Okay, so that'll be we'll release that sometime,
- 16:47Speaker 1: maybe a day or two after my to bring out
- 16:49Speaker 1: the comments on that one. Yeah, you can do that
- 16:51Speaker 1: to see what I don't agree with. You probably won't
- 16:53Speaker 1: agree with most of it. Now, you won't be able
- 16:55Speaker 1: to do Vegas because we've never had a trip to Vegas,
- 16:58Speaker 1: but I have been too Vegue. You've been into Bay, right,
- 17:00Speaker 1: So I include all of them, including Los Angeles because
- 17:03Speaker 1: even though I've never been to Los Angeles, everybody knows,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you know, LA is like you've never been to us.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I've never been to Los Angeles. But all thirty two,
- 17:11Speaker 1: and I include the international venues in there, so wow, wow, Yeah,
- 17:16Speaker 1: you've been to Germany. Those were announced, by the way,
- 17:19Speaker 1: were announced. So it's gonna be Seattle and Tampa Bay
- 17:24Speaker 1: in Mune and Munich. How does the organization feel about
- 17:27Speaker 1: Tom Brady getting the first game there when that's our
- 17:29Speaker 1: home territory. It's Tampa Bay's too. Yeah, I just hate
- 17:37Speaker 1: so much deces back it's you know, did you guys
- 17:41Speaker 1: have Brady put a TikTok out today? I'm sorry, what
- 17:44Speaker 1: TikTok okay? Oh, I'm pretty sure that the first one.
- 17:49Speaker 1: It's one of these TikTok trends where it's you know,
- 17:51Speaker 1: safe bulging, tell like the truth or tell the truth
- 17:54Speaker 1: about something. And Brady kind of looks, he looks over
- 17:56Speaker 1: his shoulder and he goes, it might have been a fumble.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Oh oh, troll troll troll. And then I saw poor
- 18:04Speaker 1: Amy Trash getting getting tagged with that on Twitter, like,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know, because she's still so passionate and great about it.
- 18:10Speaker 1: So that's good little bit content. At least he has
- 18:12Speaker 1: a sense of humor about things, right? Was that a shot? Eric?
- 18:17Speaker 1: I don't get humor. Speaking of not having humor, there's
- 18:19Speaker 1: a thread going on on Reddit our long time listeners strippers.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Yeah us, Yeah, I was gonna say, where's he taps
- 18:29Speaker 1: out in the off season? Well, you know, he's busy,
- 18:31Speaker 1: you know, I think he taps out period. I don't
- 18:33Speaker 1: think listen, yeah, probably since he was he was he
- 18:36Speaker 1: liked and he was U but he was known for
- 18:39Speaker 1: like we would mention something and be like, when was
- 18:42Speaker 1: that Paul, when was that? And like two seconds later
- 18:44Speaker 1: he'd email us with like a web search link like
- 18:47Speaker 1: here it is answer Like he was like almost as
- 18:50Speaker 1: quick as our boy Jamie used to be. Remember Jamie
- 18:52Speaker 1: how quick he used to be on the Google search.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Jamie was the best Googler in the history of Google. Yeah,
- 18:58Speaker 1: but interesting threat. So it was you go ahead and
- 19:04Speaker 1: try sometime when you look at with something specific. He
- 19:06Speaker 1: was Taekwon Thornton fast when he came to Google. Yes,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I would say, anyone that wants to us, go on
- 19:12Speaker 1: there and input what you think of us. You know,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you don't have to back us up. Yes, you can
- 19:18Speaker 1: tell us that you don't like us. No, which no,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you know, no, only only good things and then Fred
- 19:24Speaker 1: will hunt you down. Freedom of speech, say whatever you want. Friends.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Took offense to all the people that called him a homer. No,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I just thought it was interesting that I'm a homer.
- 19:31Speaker 1: But the show was negative because they're three of us.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I think there and somebody has to be anybody listen
- 19:37Speaker 1: to this show and says it's negative, it doesn't really
- 19:39Speaker 1: listen to the show. It's not only negative. So some
- 19:41Speaker 1: people like fighting, some people don't like fighting and I
- 19:44Speaker 1: and I would be in the category of enjoying a
- 19:46Speaker 1: good little The one thing, the one thing that I
- 19:49Speaker 1: would agree with is talking over each other. I think
- 19:52Speaker 1: we do do that and it's unlistenable. He said no,
- 19:57Speaker 1: But I mean when you're listening to radio, you can't
- 19:59Speaker 1: understand what people are saying. Yeah, you know, so we
- 20:02Speaker 1: need to watch that. There's a there's a time for it.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I know I did it over the draft week and
- 20:05Speaker 1: when when Paul was, you know, raking me over the coals, um,
- 20:08Speaker 1: but you know I was raking you over you guys
- 20:13Speaker 1: the other day. There was But sometimes you have a
- 20:15Speaker 1: little explosion I think is you're tin of yelling over
- 20:18Speaker 1: each other for a second, Like that seems like happening
- 20:21Speaker 1: when it happens, you know what happens. But when you're
- 20:24Speaker 1: both trying to make points that are real points in discussion,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I think that's when it's Andy was He was terrible
- 20:30Speaker 1: at that. Like you you know, he didn't you'd want to,
- 20:34Speaker 1: you'd want to argue with him, but he just literally
- 20:36Speaker 1: wouldn't let you speak. Yeah, it was a bullying you know,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and that was his tactic. And it's like, well, we're
- 20:43Speaker 1: gonna Are we gonna talk about this or not? You know? Yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 1: it was very Eric just broke on a sweat. I
- 20:55Speaker 1: heard he's doing a new podcast now with Fitzy Andy,
- 20:59Speaker 1: and see, really Shim is al right now it's Fitzy.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I just found out who Shim was last show and
- 21:06Speaker 1: now he's out. Go get your shine box. I said
- 21:10Speaker 1: that last show, he's saw my joke? Were you Dan
- 21:13Speaker 1: over here? Joke? I think it's the good Fellas joke?
- 21:16Speaker 1: Dane Cook? You like that reference right there? All right?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Eight five five past five hundred is the eight ticket
- 21:23Speaker 1: hut line? Eight five five pass five hundred. Um? Anything
- 21:26Speaker 1: you want to throw out there before we open it
- 21:28Speaker 1: up to the listeners. No, I mean we're starting to
- 21:32Speaker 1: we're starting to unleash our draft profiles. Were just overlooking
- 21:35Speaker 1: the transactions of the week. I mean Patriots, Oh Divino
- 21:39Speaker 1: Zigbo yeah or Divine Yeah, they let him go, No
- 21:42Speaker 1: divine intervention. There draft two running backs. Someone had to
- 21:45Speaker 1: go you're out, You're out, Tom, You're out. Yeah. I
- 21:48Speaker 1: think that's about it. What about this quarterback that they
- 21:51Speaker 1: sign undrafted free agent who says, you know, he thinks
- 21:55Speaker 1: they're going to use him in a lot of different positions,
- 21:57Speaker 1: but king, Yeah, yeah, it won't be a quarterback, right, yeah,
- 22:02Speaker 1: be running back, ride receiver. Thanks for listening to return.
- 22:05Speaker 1: It was a quarter you were on it, weren't. Yeah
- 22:07Speaker 1: he was. He's a first of Houston and he was
- 22:09Speaker 1: a pretty good he's a pretty good receiver. The coaches
- 22:12Speaker 1: really liked I was on it, but maybe some of
- 22:14Speaker 1: our listeners weren't listening. The face you just gave me
- 22:17Speaker 1: the best face. Oh yeah, but he did play, he
- 22:21Speaker 1: did play significant amount of receiver earlier, early in his career. Um,
- 22:26Speaker 1: and watched a little of that yesterday. It's okay, what's
- 22:28Speaker 1: his measurables? Five eight? Yeah, he's five eight? Yeah, I
- 22:32Speaker 1: mean he's he's not Edelman. It was like a fire hydrant. No,
- 22:35Speaker 1: and I mean you know, and the thing about Edelman
- 22:36Speaker 1: two was he had that that three cone time that
- 22:38Speaker 1: you Connor were like, well, he's he's got some elite quickness.
- 22:41Speaker 1: He doesn't. He doesn't doesn't have so, um, there's not
- 22:44Speaker 1: really a me. Don't do that anymore? To do what
- 22:47Speaker 1: three is not important anymore? Mac Row new sheriff in Towns.
- 22:52Speaker 1: An interesting thing though, was combined there weren't a lot
- 22:54Speaker 1: of great three cones. Anyway, it's just just an interesting
- 22:57Speaker 1: kind of that's because we were ahead of the curve
- 22:59Speaker 1: on that. Yeah, just straight everybody's looking at right, that's why.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Well that was I mean that's all. The running backs
- 23:06Speaker 1: didn't run any of they I think some did the forty,
- 23:10Speaker 1: but they didn't do any of these. The shuttles, yeah,
- 23:13Speaker 1: corners too, they're not running backs. I guess everybody kind
- 23:17Speaker 1: of just held hands and said, we're not doing it together.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And but yeah, I mean certainly Derek King could be
- 23:24Speaker 1: you know, a guy that makes a transition from a
- 23:26Speaker 1: college quarterback to a receiver. We've seen it happen a
- 23:29Speaker 1: lot um. I just want to caution like the chances
- 23:32Speaker 1: of it being you know, Edelman. I mean, it's disrespectful
- 23:38Speaker 1: to Edelman. I say this this solid time, like when
- 23:40Speaker 1: we just think that the next guy who has that
- 23:42Speaker 1: kind of profile will be the next Edelman or the
- 23:45Speaker 1: next Welker, Like those guys were really great players. I mean,
- 23:48Speaker 1: Troy Brown is an all time Patriot, and to just
- 23:52Speaker 1: suggest the next guy that comes along will be the
- 23:54Speaker 1: next guy like him, Yeah, sooner they're not you know, unicorns.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Sooner or later someone will be like that. But I
- 24:00Speaker 1: just I'm not going to assume that someone's like that
- 24:02Speaker 1: just because he played college quarterback and it's five foot nothing.
- 24:06Speaker 1: That's just a start night. Like I mean, like I said,
- 24:08Speaker 1: Edelman had at least that three cone time that you
- 24:10Speaker 1: that you had some intrigue statistically coming in that he
- 24:13Speaker 1: would have some quickness and be able to ditch guys
- 24:16Speaker 1: and get away and get open. I know, I don't.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I don't think there's really much that stands out about
- 24:20Speaker 1: King to me, um, but I thought, I mean, I
- 24:23Speaker 1: was kind of digging a little bit on on some
- 24:24Speaker 1: of these undrafted guys. I thought the Brendan Schooler guy,
- 24:27Speaker 1: he's a you know, was a receiver then was a
- 24:29Speaker 1: safety at Texas and a big special teams guy. So
- 24:32Speaker 1: if you want to talk about somebody who might might
- 24:34Speaker 1: make it good profile on that, yeah, he's yeah, athletic,
- 24:37Speaker 1: interesting guy and he's got long here for ye oh,
- 24:40Speaker 1: I cut him then, all right? Eight five five past
- 24:44Speaker 1: five hundred is the eighth ticket outline. Eight five five
- 24:47Speaker 1: pass five hundred. Web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 24:50Speaker 1: the email address. Uh, let's get to the phones. Start
- 24:54Speaker 1: with Todd, North Carolina. Hey, Todd, Todd Todd Todd, He's gone,
- 25:00Speaker 1: oh wow, Wow, Let's go to Patty and agawam. What's
- 25:04Speaker 1: up Patty dude? Hey, hey, I got a couple questions.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Second one, I'll be quick, but the first one's kind
- 25:13Speaker 1: of a weird hypothetical question, and it's regarding how they
- 25:18Speaker 1: traded up to take the Kwan Thornton and just your
- 25:21Speaker 1: guy's opinions. I'd like to hear the opinions considering like
- 25:26Speaker 1: his place, well not really his place style, but like
- 25:28Speaker 1: his measurables, the fact that he the program that he
- 25:34Speaker 1: came from, and the fact that he played gunner. Do
- 25:37Speaker 1: you guys think that Jamison Williams was either like at
- 25:41Speaker 1: the top or like the top guy on the Patriots
- 25:44Speaker 1: board going into the draft. M I mean it's possible,
- 25:48Speaker 1: like you know, we we are pretty sure based on
- 25:52Speaker 1: some sources that last year, if Wattle was available and
- 25:57Speaker 1: the other receiver, they would have taken him. Waddle. I
- 26:01Speaker 1: think Waddle is the guy they love. Yeah, and so
- 26:04Speaker 1: that's that's my opinion. That's not a fact. No, no,
- 26:06Speaker 1: it's not a fact. But I think, you know, maybe
- 26:10Speaker 1: they would have taken Williams if they had a higher
- 26:13Speaker 1: draft pick, you know, and he was available or if
- 26:15Speaker 1: he dropped to them, they would have jumped at him.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And maybe they wanted that type of receiver and they
- 26:21Speaker 1: thought that this guy was a poor man Williams and
- 26:24Speaker 1: we can coach him up. And you know, maybe that's
- 26:26Speaker 1: why they moved up to get him, because you know,
- 26:28Speaker 1: they thought maybe Pittsburgh was gonna grab him, but they
- 26:31Speaker 1: wanted that type of guy. Yeah, they definitely have similar files,
- 26:35Speaker 1: just as far as height and you know, body type
- 26:38Speaker 1: and speed. Clearly speed, that's that's the thing. So I
- 26:42Speaker 1: mean he did it at Alabama, but yeah, it's a
- 26:45Speaker 1: good question. I don't know. I do know though, I
- 26:47Speaker 1: saw the pictures of Jamison Williams being introduced by the Lions,
- 26:50Speaker 1: and he looked like depressed, like you did, like the
- 26:53Speaker 1: most straight face, like I'm like, whoa, you're getting introduced.
- 26:56Speaker 1: He's right next to who is the top chin Hutches
- 27:00Speaker 1: has got the big smile on. Jamison Williams just kind
- 27:03Speaker 1: of looked dour. I don't know, but again, comportment, if
- 27:06Speaker 1: you had to catch passes from Jared Goffin, he'd be
- 27:09Speaker 1: doing back back flips. Either. I can't do back FLI
- 27:12Speaker 1: and real quick. Do you guys have any interest in
- 27:14Speaker 1: James Bradberry if the Giants released him. I'm not really
- 27:16Speaker 1: familiar with the players. Oh, he's a good player. Yeah,
- 27:19Speaker 1: I don't know if we'd be able to afford him.
- 27:22Speaker 1: But not familiar with good player. James Bradberry, former Panther
- 27:27Speaker 1: went to the Giant just supposed to be the prepared
- 27:28Speaker 1: one in this podcast. Didn't you read the reddit thread? No,
- 27:33Speaker 1: you read a reddit thread. Yeah, it was short. Um,
- 27:38Speaker 1: he's a he's a pretty solid corner. Uh. Yeah, I
- 27:41Speaker 1: would be interested in him, Patty, if they could, they
- 27:44Speaker 1: could bring him in. Um, I think he would. He
- 27:46Speaker 1: would slot in as a starter. I would feel really
- 27:49Speaker 1: good about him being one of my two starting corners. Absolutely, thanks, Patty,
- 27:54Speaker 1: appreciate it. James Bradberry, he's just not thinking. Yeah, probably
- 27:58Speaker 1: no serious, Like I know dou said. I know that
- 28:01Speaker 1: he knows who that is. He's just not thinking right now,
- 28:03Speaker 1: all right, and we don't pay no mind. Yeah, he
- 28:07Speaker 1: was on the Panthers there out of out of college,
- 28:10Speaker 1: and then he signed a free agent deal with the
- 28:11Speaker 1: Giants and supposedly he's supposedly, as they say, he's he's
- 28:16Speaker 1: on the way out Eldred's in North Carolina. What's what's up? Eldred?
- 28:23Speaker 1: Hey fellows, how y'all doing good? Hey Fred? Yeah, one
- 28:28Speaker 1: durn thing about this show man. I love it all right,
- 28:30Speaker 1: thank you. I love what y'all know each other. I
- 28:33Speaker 1: love it and you had me chuckling over here. But
- 28:36Speaker 1: I find myself lately agreeing more with Paul. Paul mean
- 28:40Speaker 1: you mean you used to argue a lot. I like
- 28:41Speaker 1: to love that more than anything, but we don't argue
- 28:43Speaker 1: it right now. We're coming everything. Well, you both hate
- 28:46Speaker 1: the Patriots. You see what he does, see what he
- 28:51Speaker 1: does there. But yeah, I'm getting to come to your
- 28:58Speaker 1: side a little bit about Thornton because I saw some
- 29:02Speaker 1: highlight then NFL talking NFL Network talking about especially Bucky
- 29:07Speaker 1: Brooks and that other guy you know. See it might
- 29:10Speaker 1: be a sleeper all the pens. You know how how
- 29:13Speaker 1: New England used him, but he was a burning and everything.
- 29:16Speaker 1: But my thing is, I know, like I said, I
- 29:21Speaker 1: look at the way Nick the Cereal draft. I looked
- 29:24Speaker 1: at the way but Josh did when he left. I
- 29:27Speaker 1: knew he had to put some input with the GM.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Then I look at Dabo, how they how they draft
- 29:32Speaker 1: and I mean they went after the guy just and
- 29:35Speaker 1: know they under Bill Free and I'm like most I
- 29:38Speaker 1: think Nick got got the guys the Bill won't it.
- 29:41Speaker 1: He jumped the head and got him like MITCHI and
- 29:44Speaker 1: I think the corner somebody else, yeah, you know, and
- 29:48Speaker 1: then he he kept picking. I'm like, drn you know,
- 29:50Speaker 1: but I like the way they draft, and I'm just wondering.
- 29:54Speaker 1: You know, they took something from Bill, but they didn't.
- 29:57Speaker 1: They didn't take the drafting part. They did a little
- 29:59Speaker 1: bit what the team need it. And that's my problem
- 30:01Speaker 1: with Bill. You know, I understand get what the team need,
- 30:04Speaker 1: but try to get the right playoffs, you know, the
- 30:07Speaker 1: ones that you do know that can do the big
- 30:09Speaker 1: name schools or whatever. If you can't get them, I understand.
- 30:12Speaker 1: But a couple of those guys, like I said, they
- 30:14Speaker 1: would sit there. We just didn't get him. Yeah, that's
- 30:17Speaker 1: that's my right, yeah right, yeah, but I hope they
- 30:20Speaker 1: didn't come in and Bradsberry. Oh he's a good guy.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind having him as the corner instead of
- 30:27Speaker 1: two five eight guys we got. I really have him. Yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 1: I just look a second round pick um, you know,
- 30:34Speaker 1: with the Panthers and he's been so I mean, I'm
- 30:36Speaker 1: not trying to make him up to be Rivers or
- 30:38Speaker 1: anything like that, but um, I think he would be
- 30:40Speaker 1: an upgrade. I think he'd immediately be your best corner.
- 30:43Speaker 1: On the radio this morning, Paul, two of your guys,
- 30:46Speaker 1: the Bankroll boys, they were having a big argument about
- 30:50Speaker 1: the Patriots draft and so on, and you know who's
- 30:52Speaker 1: I mean, guess who's in Fish Lift shots loved it. No,
- 30:56Speaker 1: But I think what the point that they were kind
- 30:58Speaker 1: of both making, but they were still arguing, is you know,
- 31:01Speaker 1: you choose to you choose to believe the sources that
- 31:05Speaker 1: back up your opinion. No doubt that's a good point,
- 31:08Speaker 1: you know. But but something that um the Murray is
- 31:12Speaker 1: it Murray? It's Joe Murray and Dan Lift Like he
- 31:14Speaker 1: was insisting on that last year Dave Ziegler ran the
- 31:17Speaker 1: draft and leaderships kept saying, how do you who says says?
- 31:22Speaker 1: Who you know? And that's a good point, Like, like
- 31:26Speaker 1: I'll tell you, like even NAT's coming out now, people
- 31:29Speaker 1: are starting to talk about Mac. This is clearly like
- 31:33Speaker 1: I think our buddy Mike Giardi right had a tweet
- 31:35Speaker 1: about this from an AFC guy with Patriots ties. It
- 31:40Speaker 1: was a vague kind of description, but clearly all the
- 31:43Speaker 1: earmarks of a Matt Matt grow draft because of the
- 31:46Speaker 1: guys they picked and not necessarily profiling guys that Bill
- 31:50Speaker 1: would be I'm sorry, it's to me, it's it's it's Bill.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Now it's Bill. Then it has always been, always will
- 31:57Speaker 1: always right. It's always the way it shall be in
- 32:00Speaker 1: my opinion, until he decides to agree. I agree, But
- 32:03Speaker 1: I also wonder how much of it is how it's
- 32:06Speaker 1: presented to him, because he's not doing all the heavy lifting.
- 32:09Speaker 1: At the end of the there's probably some sort of meeting,
- 32:12Speaker 1: many meetings, probably where it's either Ziegler or Macro or
- 32:16Speaker 1: somebody presenting to him this is who we like. Well,
- 32:19Speaker 1: that's a good point he picks out of those guys.
- 32:23Speaker 1: But I still think that there's a little bit of
- 32:25Speaker 1: a you know, a sieve I guess is what, but
- 32:28Speaker 1: you know, a buffer before him of what they're presenting
- 32:31Speaker 1: to him. Um, because he's not in the way, are
- 32:37Speaker 1: they kind of managing up so like they're giving him
- 32:41Speaker 1: three options let's say at cornerback, but it's the options
- 32:45Speaker 1: that they give him, so he's deciding but it's based
- 32:48Speaker 1: on what the information he's getting to make that decision. Yeah,
- 32:52Speaker 1: and I think that he also is instructing them to
- 32:55Speaker 1: look for these guys. Not sure not Mike do so,
- 32:58Speaker 1: but type guy who do A, B and C. This
- 33:01Speaker 1: is what as an organization, this is what is important
- 33:04Speaker 1: to us overall as a as a person, then as
- 33:09Speaker 1: a player, and then at that position. Yeah, they have
- 33:12Speaker 1: the season wrap up meeting where they go through everything,
- 33:15Speaker 1: they evaluate all the players on the roster, and then
- 33:18Speaker 1: they have that kind of discussion of this is the
- 33:21Speaker 1: direction we feel like we need to go. Clearly, speed
- 33:24Speaker 1: was probably part of that conversation based on toughness what
- 33:26Speaker 1: they said and picked. I feel like toughness always was,
- 33:28Speaker 1: but I don't always feel like speedball. But I think
- 33:31Speaker 1: those teams around a lot, you know, those teams that
- 33:33Speaker 1: they look for guys that that will fold like they're
- 33:36Speaker 1: not gonna I love those kinds of things to guys. Now,
- 33:40Speaker 1: you want to tell me like Bill looks for guys
- 33:42Speaker 1: that have a certain like intangible kind of profile of
- 33:46Speaker 1: football being important. Yeah, um, you know, cerebral kind of players. Yeah.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I would absolutely say that those are traits that Bill
- 33:52Speaker 1: looks for that. I don't think all teams are necessarily
- 33:55Speaker 1: enamored with you know that, you know, other teams aren't
- 33:58Speaker 1: looking for guys that don't like football, But it's not
- 34:00Speaker 1: as important, right of a factor, And I think it
- 34:03Speaker 1: is very important for Bill to get guys that clearly
- 34:06Speaker 1: show that they like foot. But I would like to
- 34:08Speaker 1: ask Bill or even Matt grow, what's your definition of tough? Like?
- 34:13Speaker 1: Is it playing through injuries? Is it, you know, dealing
- 34:16Speaker 1: with adversity, is it not listening to the noise? Is
- 34:20Speaker 1: it it's probably all yeah, but like what what's your
- 34:23Speaker 1: definition a tough you know, because we think the first
- 34:26Speaker 1: thing you think is, oh, he's strong and you know,
- 34:29Speaker 1: but there's other things to that. Yeah. I just I mean,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I think generally most football players getting to this level
- 34:34Speaker 1: have an element of toughness to them. And there's certainly guys,
- 34:38Speaker 1: you know a little bit like like Trevor Penning who's
- 34:41Speaker 1: a pain in the ass, who who's like a step
- 34:42Speaker 1: on a guy after, you know, put him to the ground.
- 34:44Speaker 1: And you know, I think Strange has a little bit
- 34:46Speaker 1: of I think Mankins was was was great at that
- 34:48Speaker 1: he was nasty when had a nastiness to him. But
- 34:51Speaker 1: I don't think that that's the only way to be tough.
- 34:53Speaker 1: I think I think just being healthy and being available
- 34:56Speaker 1: is a form of toughness, of being able to survive
- 34:59Speaker 1: the grinding you're out and playing lots of lots of snaps,
- 35:02Speaker 1: mentally tough. But I think Paul Paul, I really like
- 35:04Speaker 1: Paul's point because I think that sorry, pauls a good point, um.
- 35:11Speaker 1: But I think some of the misses are because of that,
- 35:14Speaker 1: are because they fell more in love with this is
- 35:16Speaker 1: just a great, great kid. And I think the first
- 35:18Speaker 1: guy that comes to mind is Jordan Richards, who you know, perfect,
- 35:22Speaker 1: perfect guy example, but couldn't really good play, you know.
- 35:25Speaker 1: And I think when you look at some of those
- 35:28Speaker 1: I know, no and and and you know, a special teamer,
- 35:30Speaker 1: but based on where they drafted him, not really. You know,
- 35:33Speaker 1: we talked about value, um, but I think that there's
- 35:36Speaker 1: an element of that, and some of the draft miss
- 35:38Speaker 1: is where we may be overvalued what kind of person
- 35:41Speaker 1: they were a little bit more than can they really play?
- 35:44Speaker 1: You know, at the end of the day, I know
- 35:45Speaker 1: then they opposite in the spectrum is a guy who's
- 35:48Speaker 1: got character problems but is awesome and running for two
- 35:52Speaker 1: forties and three and all that you know, has all
- 35:54Speaker 1: the measurables. UM, so interesting. I mean, I think there
- 35:58Speaker 1: are subtle shifts in the draft a little bit this year,
- 36:00Speaker 1: but you know, generally, I don't. I think there's always
- 36:03Speaker 1: some kind of toughness that you're looking at, and it's
- 36:05Speaker 1: I think it's hard to it's kind of a nebulous
- 36:07Speaker 1: term of like, there's all kinds of different tough guys.
- 36:10Speaker 1: There's guys who are nasty, they're guys who are consistent
- 36:12Speaker 1: and able to play um. But but like so Ziegler
- 36:16Speaker 1: and Wolf right, Elliott Wolf both of them got asked
- 36:20Speaker 1: to do interviews and didn't they say no? To Wolf
- 36:23Speaker 1: they turned interviews for other jobs. I mean, okay, okay,
- 36:29Speaker 1: I thought that they might have said no, no, they
- 36:32Speaker 1: allowed okay, yeah, okay, he just didn't get the jobs.
- 36:35Speaker 1: But part of that, you know, when we talk about,
- 36:37Speaker 1: you know, some of the subtle differences they probably are
- 36:39Speaker 1: because if you look at the last three years, you've
- 36:41Speaker 1: had Casserio, then you had Ziegler, and now you have
- 36:44Speaker 1: grow Montias and four those three guys probably do have
- 36:50Speaker 1: a different opinion on what Bill has asked them to
- 36:54Speaker 1: go and sure scour, yeah, you know, and you know
- 36:57Speaker 1: they might not come out with the same players. That's true.
- 36:59Speaker 1: How I do think this particular year there was something
- 37:03Speaker 1: more the way that everybody's talking like Taekwon Thornton is
- 37:07Speaker 1: not a guy they would have gravitated to it, straight linespeed,
- 37:10Speaker 1: lousy three cone time, you know, and some other things
- 37:13Speaker 1: that that maybe they used to really focus on, you know,
- 37:17Speaker 1: not not as polished, uh you know, a product. But
- 37:21Speaker 1: maybe Bill is stepped back and said, hey, you know,
- 37:24Speaker 1: we need to change the way we look at that
- 37:25Speaker 1: position because we haven't had success with it. And maybe
- 37:28Speaker 1: that was you know, part of that too, you know,
- 37:30Speaker 1: and Bill, I just can't imagine that Bill just said, oh, yeah, Matt,
- 37:34Speaker 1: whatever you want at that position, I can't do it.
- 37:38Speaker 1: So whatever you want. I think it was an organizational
- 37:42Speaker 1: and Bill must say to them, you know, not just
- 37:45Speaker 1: this year, but in past years. Don't don't be afraid
- 37:48Speaker 1: to look at the sub schools, you know, the FBS schools.
- 37:52Speaker 1: They've never been afraid of that. Yeah, don't be afraid.
- 37:54Speaker 1: You know. No. The thing I wonder is Bill gives
- 37:57Speaker 1: the directive of you know this is these are the
- 38:00Speaker 1: parameters criteria I'm looking for it, go go at it.
- 38:03Speaker 1: And I wonder how many of them are willing to
- 38:05Speaker 1: come back and say, Okay, I'll give you a handful
- 38:08Speaker 1: of the ones you're looking for, but I also think
- 38:10Speaker 1: you should look at this guy. Yeah, I like the
- 38:12Speaker 1: way this guy does this or that, and why don't
- 38:15Speaker 1: you consider this Bill. I wonder how many of them
- 38:16Speaker 1: are willing to or brave enough to say, and you know,
- 38:19Speaker 1: I'm going to submit some of these names for you.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I think they all do. And I think that was
- 38:23Speaker 1: much more prevalent when a guy like Peoli was there
- 38:25Speaker 1: and had in Thomas Dimitrov and those guys, because they
- 38:28Speaker 1: had a little bit more standing yeah with Bill from
- 38:31Speaker 1: years of experience be with him. And I think more
- 38:34Speaker 1: recently there's probably been less pushback than that, and that
- 38:38Speaker 1: might have something to do with, you know, sort of
- 38:40Speaker 1: the inconsistencies of late I hope there's more, though, because
- 38:43Speaker 1: I think that's where you really find the good ones.
- 38:45Speaker 1: You know, if if you have a young scout who
- 38:47Speaker 1: really believes in a player, I would want that, you know,
- 38:50Speaker 1: even if I don't see it, I would want if
- 38:52Speaker 1: I'm Bill and this guy is somebody, a young guy
- 38:55Speaker 1: and he's willing to speak up to me. Then if
- 38:59Speaker 1: I'm Bill, I'm like, he must really believe in him,
- 39:01Speaker 1: So I should look at him, you know, like he's
- 39:04Speaker 1: got the you know, um, he got the stones up
- 39:08Speaker 1: to talk back to me on this guy. Okay, I should.
- 39:11Speaker 1: I should give him a second thought. And I think
- 39:12Speaker 1: that's how, you know, the team stays fresh. And I mean,
- 39:15Speaker 1: I know, as any coach gets older, there's questions of
- 39:18Speaker 1: you know, at what point do they do they get
- 39:20Speaker 1: does the game pass them by? That kind of thing?
- 39:22Speaker 1: And the way to avoid that, I think is by
- 39:25Speaker 1: embracing that that the new people and the new voices
- 39:27Speaker 1: and um, you know clearly with Elliot Wolf coming in now,
- 39:30Speaker 1: I think it's his titles director of Scouting, I believe
- 39:32Speaker 1: is what he is now. So you know, that's that's
- 39:35Speaker 1: another new voice that that they seem to respect and
- 39:38Speaker 1: are including now in this process. So we'll see how
- 39:41Speaker 1: this class turns out. I mean, it's it's it's every year.
- 39:43Speaker 1: It's exciting to see who they get, how it turns out. Yeah,
- 39:47Speaker 1: back to the phones, we go. Rashad's in Baltimore. Hey, Rashad, Hey, Hey, Um,
- 39:55Speaker 1: I guess I got a couple of things on the build.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Thing is one isn't bigger than the team? No? I
- 40:04Speaker 1: think I think sometimes, you know, Bill should be held
- 40:08Speaker 1: accountable for his actions. And I'm not even talking about
- 40:12Speaker 1: this draft, for it could be other actions that he's
- 40:15Speaker 1: done as a GM, like in the past, Like and
- 40:20Speaker 1: it's like, you know, Bill's gonna be stuck. He's gonna
- 40:23Speaker 1: do what did he do? And he's gonna think how
- 40:25Speaker 1: he thinks. But if that's not helping the team, and
- 40:28Speaker 1: if it's detrimental to the team, then shouldn't he help
- 40:31Speaker 1: shouldn't be held accountable in some sort of way? Sure? Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: well would wouldn't you say that? Like the owner saying
- 40:38Speaker 1: that he needs to do a better job in the
- 40:40Speaker 1: draft is holding him accountable? I mean I would say that,
- 40:44Speaker 1: but it's but I'm I guess what I'm just really
- 40:47Speaker 1: saying is like it's it's like worst coming to worst
- 40:51Speaker 1: if it doesn't you know, if we do bad, you
- 40:53Speaker 1: know this year, is he gonna follow through? Like maybe
- 40:56Speaker 1: he'll say, you know, take a step down to GM,
- 40:58Speaker 1: you know and just be head co which or something
- 41:00Speaker 1: like that. I don't think do you want him to
- 41:02Speaker 1: continue to be the coach. That's okay, he doesn't have
- 41:11Speaker 1: to think, he doesn't have to think like y now
- 41:14Speaker 1: because I mean just I mean, because he's really be
- 41:16Speaker 1: the only coach I've you know, I've known my whole life. Yeah,
- 41:21Speaker 1: it's hard, but like when it comes to the team,
- 41:24Speaker 1: you know, it comes to the team. It's not about
- 41:26Speaker 1: a player or coach, right, and that that needs to
- 41:28Speaker 1: be your determining factor. Do you think he's the best
- 41:31Speaker 1: and the best man for the job for your team?
- 41:34Speaker 1: And I still think the answer is yes, Yes, I
- 41:37Speaker 1: gotta say yes. And I think it's hard to say, Okay, Bill,
- 41:40Speaker 1: you can keep coaching this team, but you're no longer
- 41:42Speaker 1: allowed to pick the players. Yeah, I don't think that works.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I think he'd wave goodbye, right, I don't. I don't think.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I don't think that he would go for that. You know.
- 41:52Speaker 1: The best I think you could hope for is maybe
- 41:54Speaker 1: some of these people that are talking now about a
- 41:56Speaker 1: more collaborative effort, that that's been a sort of a
- 42:00Speaker 1: compromise on Bill's part. I don't necessarily buy it, but
- 42:03Speaker 1: if it's true when it has happened, maybe Bill has,
- 42:06Speaker 1: you know, sort of made a concession and now it's
- 42:10Speaker 1: he's more willing to sort of wigh the opinions of
- 42:13Speaker 1: all if I'm Robert craft a way to get around that,
- 42:16Speaker 1: you know, like not officially saying, Okay, you're no longer
- 42:19Speaker 1: the GM, but I say to Bill, and I say
- 42:21Speaker 1: to mac Grow or whoever um Bill, you no longer
- 42:25Speaker 1: have the ability to fire Matt Grow. So matc Grow
- 42:30Speaker 1: now has a little bit more. He doesn't have to
- 42:32Speaker 1: worry about Bill firing him. So now mac Row is
- 42:36Speaker 1: my guy if I'm but what is the fear of
- 42:38Speaker 1: what you think? Mac Row doesn't give his opinions because
- 42:40Speaker 1: he's a phrase, he's gonna get fired. I'm just I'm
- 42:42Speaker 1: just saying, like, now mac Row is kind of my employee.
- 42:46Speaker 1: He's not bills, you know, I see what you're saying.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I just think that the bigger problem is that I
- 42:51Speaker 1: think that some of these guys are you know, lilimitated. Yeah.
- 42:56Speaker 1: I think I mean it's the greatest coach of all time. Yeah,
- 42:58Speaker 1: but you're gonna tell him, But why are they intimidated?
- 43:01Speaker 1: Because he's great? Ye right, he's great, but you could
- 43:03Speaker 1: also lose your job. But I think you can't help
- 43:06Speaker 1: but say, well, you know, I'm wrong, yes, right, yeah,
- 43:10Speaker 1: some spill right if oh yeah, that's part he should
- 43:13Speaker 1: be like, exactly, you should I sit here and argue
- 43:16Speaker 1: with you about random minutia. Do you think I'm gonna
- 43:19Speaker 1: do that with Bill? Right? No, you should. You should
- 43:22Speaker 1: respect his knowledge and experience. But if you have the conviction,
- 43:26Speaker 1: if you really believe in a guy, you should also
- 43:29Speaker 1: feel like you can fight back. Not a lot of
- 43:32Speaker 1: people have the conviction to do that, right. I think
- 43:34Speaker 1: that's what separated the first part of the dynasty. I
- 43:38Speaker 1: think Pioli did that. I think Dimotrov did that. Yeah. Yeah,
- 43:41Speaker 1: and I think there's been less of that. Yeah, I
- 43:43Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, but to Robert and Jonathan, they
- 43:46Speaker 1: have it. They know, they know how it's run, right,
- 43:49Speaker 1: they know who's making the decisions and how much like
- 43:51Speaker 1: like sure they're they're in the draft room, right, I
- 43:53Speaker 1: mean it's they probably have I mean, clearly a better
- 43:56Speaker 1: sense than we do here. I would hope, but but
- 44:00Speaker 1: but I would think that they would know if if
- 44:02Speaker 1: the coach was just kind of a billion doesn't go
- 44:04Speaker 1: as far as it, no idea, what's going there? Like
- 44:06Speaker 1: I don't know, mac Row just told him who he wanted,
- 44:08Speaker 1: and then he went off in the corner insult and
- 44:09Speaker 1: Bill picked his guy like, I mean, I think they
- 44:11Speaker 1: would think they would see that, you know, so, I
- 44:13Speaker 1: just I think they have a sense of you know,
- 44:15Speaker 1: what the power dynamic is and how much input people are,
- 44:18Speaker 1: I mean, and you know that kind of thing. Yeah,
- 44:21Speaker 1: but that stuff has been than in the past, exactly
- 44:24Speaker 1: what you talked about. I can think of Russi Dowling
- 44:26Speaker 1: off the top of my head as being a guy
- 44:28Speaker 1: that was widely widely reported. Again doesn't mean it's true,
- 44:33Speaker 1: but it was widely portrayed as that was a way
- 44:36Speaker 1: outside the box. Pick that Bill just said. I'm making
- 44:38Speaker 1: this back. Yep. Todd's in North Carolina. Hey Todd, Hey,
- 44:44Speaker 1: it worked this time. I didn't get hung up on
- 44:46Speaker 1: I'll like it. I don't hang up at anybody, fat fingers.
- 44:50Speaker 1: It's user error. Anyway. I was thinking about Paul the
- 44:55Speaker 1: other day because I went to the home of pepsi
- 44:57Speaker 1: where it was invented. There's a pharmacy in a place
- 44:59Speaker 1: called New Burn that's like Mecca. The smell of the
- 45:05Speaker 1: pepsi just emanates from the fact that, oh, they've got
- 45:09Speaker 1: all these old bottles and everything. It's really really cool.
- 45:12Speaker 1: So I got a very two things. The first thing
- 45:14Speaker 1: is who scared Tomorrow off? I thought she was coming
- 45:16Speaker 1: in to be a regular Well, she's working through some things,
- 45:19Speaker 1: and but once your schedule freeze up, she'll be here
- 45:23Speaker 1: more regularly. Well I just thought maybe this, you know,
- 45:26Speaker 1: the accent off and all the other stuff, and you know,
- 45:29Speaker 1: talking about it or you guys didn't put her in
- 45:31Speaker 1: Andy's chair or anything mean like that, right, No, she
- 45:34Speaker 1: she got I'm in Andy's chair now and she got
- 45:36Speaker 1: on the hot corner where I was when I started.
- 45:39Speaker 1: I think that's the new in between me and Eric.
- 45:40Speaker 1: It's like it's like the tryout for all these OTAs
- 45:46Speaker 1: and voluntary stuff. There's no this is not when the
- 45:49Speaker 1: fans can come watch. You gotta wait till training. That's correct. Now,
- 45:53Speaker 1: it's just us, but we'll make sure to get all
- 45:54Speaker 1: the stats for you. Yeah, oh yeah, well no, that's
- 45:57Speaker 1: my next question. How much media gets to go to this?
- 45:59Speaker 1: Like do you guys get to go yeah, yeah, yeah, limited, No, no,
- 46:02Speaker 1: we get to actually we get to see all of
- 46:04Speaker 1: the practices that were allowed to see. We don't get
- 46:06Speaker 1: to see every practice, but there's a certain number of
- 46:09Speaker 1: them and whichever ones were allowed to see, we're allowed
- 46:11Speaker 1: to watch all of them. I thought we got a
- 46:13Speaker 1: little extra um over the last few years than the
- 46:16Speaker 1: regular media. First, yeah, we got we got to watch Yeah,
- 46:20Speaker 1: I think it was that was COVID from that, but
- 46:23Speaker 1: that was training camp because because the entire the entirety
- 46:26Speaker 1: of the offseason was all virtual, right right. That was
- 46:29Speaker 1: the last question is who do you what what position
- 46:33Speaker 1: do you think you really really miss in this draft?
- 46:36Speaker 1: For mine, it was a fatty for the D line.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I really wanted one of Deuce's guys for us. Yeah,
- 46:41Speaker 1: that's who I feel like us. Who do you guys
- 46:44Speaker 1: think that yet? I was hoping for speed, a linebacker,
- 46:47Speaker 1: yeah yeah, edge, edge, or a big, big D tackle
- 46:51Speaker 1: probably more so edged. Just a guy that could impact
- 46:53Speaker 1: three downs. I would have liked Germaine or you know,
- 46:57Speaker 1: there's quite a couple options. Josh Josh Pascal from can
- 47:00Speaker 1: He was the second round guy that I thought, you
- 47:02Speaker 1: know fit pretty well. Um, it's just you know, it's
- 47:05Speaker 1: the same group. It's the same group up front. Essentially.
- 47:07Speaker 1: He added Sam Roberts and you got an undrafted rookie there.
- 47:10Speaker 1: You also added an undrafted rookie to Marcus Mitchell, who's
- 47:13Speaker 1: probably an outside linebacker, but otherwisier young guys and an
- 47:17Speaker 1: old guy, you know, young guys who were unproven and
- 47:19Speaker 1: veterans who were here last year. Uh web radio at
- 47:23Speaker 1: Patriots dot com is the email address Mike and Marilyn.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Uh wonders if there is an easter egg in the
- 47:30Speaker 1: video that came out from the draft room. Maybe, he says,
- 47:34Speaker 1: I saw the video where they start the trade with
- 47:36Speaker 1: Kansas City. Bill says we're two out, and Matt Grove
- 47:40Speaker 1: gets up and Robert turns around, perhaps a little puzzled.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Maybe didn't know him personally, or I'd be mailing him
- 47:47Speaker 1: instead of you. The pick just before was Trailing Burks
- 47:50Speaker 1: from Arkansas. Do you think they wanted him and scrambled back? Oh?
- 47:54Speaker 1: You would have been happy with that, right, Yeah, I
- 47:56Speaker 1: would have liked trailing Burks. Could be, yeah, could be.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I don't rule anything out, you know, with that kind
- 48:01Speaker 1: of stuff. And I don't see him completely as Taekwon Thornton,
- 48:03Speaker 1: but I think he's that outside I mean, and he
- 48:07Speaker 1: has some versatility too. But I liked him. I would
- 48:10Speaker 1: have been so so his His key here is Robert
- 48:13Speaker 1: turning around looking a little puzzled, like I thought we
- 48:17Speaker 1: were going to do something else or you know. Yeah,
- 48:20Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. I wouldn't read too
- 48:22Speaker 1: much into that, And that could have been about a
- 48:24Speaker 1: million different things that Robert could have had on his mind.
- 48:27Speaker 1: But I don't rule out the fact that somebody got
- 48:30Speaker 1: taken in a pick or so around, you know, in
- 48:34Speaker 1: a group that the Patriots were really in that kind
- 48:36Speaker 1: of tipped the scales and said, okay, let's move down,
- 48:39Speaker 1: you know, because I'm not sure they would have taken
- 48:41Speaker 1: Strange at twenty one. No. Well, I mean, I hope
- 48:44Speaker 1: they put it. Bill said they might have. Bill said
- 48:46Speaker 1: they might have. Yeah, but I don't. I think I
- 48:50Speaker 1: don't think it's a foregone conclusion. Right, I agree, right? Uh.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Jake writes in I hope you're all recover No no,
- 49:00Speaker 1: but he is from Australia. I hope you're all recovered
- 49:03Speaker 1: post draft and are ready for all the fun and
- 49:06Speaker 1: watching the new batch of rookies come through to earn
- 49:09Speaker 1: their stripes. I'm keen to see all the camps and
- 49:11Speaker 1: training camp uh and get back into full swing. Let's
- 49:15Speaker 1: see how all this needed speed Goes got a couple
- 49:19Speaker 1: of questions in relation to the draft. How long have
- 49:22Speaker 1: mocked drafts been around? And why are their grades when
- 49:26Speaker 1: the draft is done? So it was the grading after
- 49:29Speaker 1: the draft is done is absurd. Yeah, I will say
- 49:32Speaker 1: that mock drafts have been done since I've been following, Yeah,
- 49:36Speaker 1: which is when I don't remember a time when there
- 49:38Speaker 1: weren't mock drafts. I don't either, but that was Now
- 49:40Speaker 1: there's way more two in the like Sports Illustrated and
- 49:44Speaker 1: the newspapers. Yeah, yeah, I think that's where I first
- 49:47Speaker 1: saw them. Was was Yeah, like in Will McDonough for years,
- 49:51Speaker 1: did it? Yeah, And that's why I said, like, I
- 49:52Speaker 1: don't ever remember a time without mock draft. Hey, Matt,
- 49:55Speaker 1: why don't you look up when was the first mocked draft? Yeah,
- 49:59Speaker 1: NFL mock draft. Maybe we'll call Jamie, he'll do it.
- 50:03Speaker 1: He also says, being so used to the Australian rules
- 50:06Speaker 1: uh football draft, the NFL draft seems so crazy. The
- 50:10Speaker 1: AFL strollers football usually has the first five top prospects
- 50:16Speaker 1: in the limelight, but that's it. Anyone after that. You
- 50:19Speaker 1: watch their highlights after they're drafted and hope they can perform. Also,
- 50:23Speaker 1: no grading on our drafts either how many? How many
- 50:25Speaker 1: teams are there? Oh in that league? Well, let's face it,
- 50:29Speaker 1: like all the even the pro sports in America, there's
- 50:32Speaker 1: no draft like the NFL draft. You know, hockey you're
- 50:35Speaker 1: drafting for the future. NBA like, only the first ten
- 50:39Speaker 1: guys matter, you know, it's really only like the first two. Yeah,
- 50:42Speaker 1: in the NBA. But you're right that there's nothing like
- 50:45Speaker 1: the NFL draft. Baseball, you're drafting into the miners schools. Yeah,
- 50:49Speaker 1: round one hundred we pick high school gets drafted. But
- 50:52Speaker 1: that's why, like baseball and hockey, you're drafting high school kids.
- 50:56Speaker 1: You know, kids that that they're either gonna sign with
- 50:58Speaker 1: you right away, they're gonna stay would play juniors, or
- 51:01Speaker 1: they're gonna go and play in college. Yep, you know,
- 51:04Speaker 1: And that's both baseball and hockey. Basketball is the closest.
- 51:09Speaker 1: But there aren't that many. There's only a handful of
- 51:11Speaker 1: guys that you know, right, would you say ten? Yeah?
- 51:14Speaker 1: I think ten's probably generous. Yeah, guys that are actually
- 51:17Speaker 1: gonna play big roles. Right, all right, we're gonna take
- 51:20Speaker 1: a break. A lot of emails coming in, we got
- 51:22Speaker 1: lost to talk about. We'll be right back after this.

- 1:01:20Speaker 1: of me. I have one upstairs. You don't have one.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Print it out. We have this thing called the internet.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: You know, look it up. Don't take my word for it, Matt,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: go ahead, look it up. How many syllables in the
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: word oh you are? Hey? What are you saying? One? One?
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: He's saying that the word are and oh you are
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: are pronounced exactly the same one. One. There you go,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: and there it is Paul, and there it is Paul's
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: try technology right now? Our who's saying that somebody from
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: China dicks scenary the dictionary pronunciation? You told me to
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: look it up. I looked it up in the dictionary
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: and it has the pronunciation. How many audibles hour? Our?
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: He just said one? Well, I just I'm just playing
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I'm not listening to the passage. Let me see that hour.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Let me see it. So Fred's picking up the phone.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Now it has the little it has the little pronunciation.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: You guy, how you pronounced it? Do you hear how
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: it was pronounced? It's one. I don't how many syllables
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: it is. It's pronounced our, Yeah, hour, it is not our.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: That's another great moment from Hey, I don't know how
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: I put up with this. Do you never notice like
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: how many times Deuce has these odd ways of saying
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: things like you you say our, I say engine and no,
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: but you say our are and Eric and I say
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: our hour. Deuce had this other thing that was like totally.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: It was like Chanceler, like, I don't know what. Don't
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: bring that candel how dare you? There's a certain magic though,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: when somebody pushes their mic away and is yelling, yeah,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: there is You're right, I agree. It's like I thought
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: that was gonna be one where you had About ten
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: minutes later, thanks for calling our show, Bill and DC.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: I went back and listened to mac grow and his
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: pre draft press conference, and he made it pretty clear
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: that they were going to make it a priority to
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: go after speed at wide receiver. I don't know if
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: he said that position, but all right, I think he
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: mentioned receiver, like he mentioned receiver in relation to speed. Okay,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: and the day one starter on the offensive line, and
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: then when they did exactly that, all hell broke loose.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Unlike all the fans who are draft experts, I'll admit
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: I know nothing, but it seems pretty clear that for
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: better or worse, the Patriots had a plan going into
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: the draft and executed it to a t. Time will
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: tell if they were right, but I'm willing to reserve
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: judgment until I see these kids on the field. Question
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: from the back of the room, Paul, I don't think
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: anybody has a problem with the positions that they chose.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: I don't think anybody is surprised even a little bit
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: with the positions that they chose. Some people, myself included,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: wonder if they chose the right guys. That's all. Yeah. Like,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I'm not surprised that they targeted a wide receiver in
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Day two. Mike and I talked about it for six weeks.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I'm not surprised they targeted an offensive lineman. It was
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: a major need. I just don't know if they got
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: the right guys, right, could you just rejigger it and
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: take a wide receiver first and a guard second, or
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: you know, or an edge guy like you know, a
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: highly rated player at the you know, in the first round.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: You know, Fred's been on this. Fred thinks they may
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: have been trying to trade down again from twenty nine.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: I think maybe that was true. I don't know. My
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: guess is somebody got taken between twenty one and twenty
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: nine that they liked. Interesting, That's my guess, and that's
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: why they were probably trying to trade down. Uh Tony
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: writes in anyone find it a bit concerning that the
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Baylor wide receiver has great speed hig Bethel how the
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: career work out, but has a three cone shuttle which
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: both Welker and Edelman obliterated. So are the Patriots gonna
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: just tell him go long wave to him? No longer?
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Keep going? Is that the type of Joey Galloway or
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I mean wide receiver we're looking at here. We don't
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: want Joey Galloway's. We don't want special players like that.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Is that what Mac needs? What matches his skills as
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: a quarterback? If this guy turns out to be Joey Galloway.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: I will sit here and tell you how wrong I
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: watch just not Patriots Rights. Yeah that I mean, it's
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: they're they're totally different players, different roles, and but I mean,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: I don't I don't think that Thornton is necessarily just
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: a guy who runs goes and comebacks. And he certainly
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: does run those. But I think he's got a little
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: wiggled to him. I think he's willing to go over
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: the middle of the field. I think he blocks okay,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: but we'll see how they him. Just different different guys,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: though different guys. Jeff in California says, I'm kind of
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: surprised how many people have said we haven't had four
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: two speed in a long time. People seem to forget
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Paul's guy demere Bird, who was a four two five guy.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Cooks and Dorset were both four three three forty guys. Yeah,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: du Assett was not that on the fields. I'll tell
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: you that. Yeah. Yeah, But it's a great cautionary tale
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: of a guy who has a first round grade and
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: runs great. It doesn't it doesn't mean that that translates
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: to the playfield. And I think that's what you know
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: with Thornton is as much as he ran, Well, you
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: got to see him play in games, and as we've said,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: I think you got to see a translate to the field.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: How does he look on the field against NFL players
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: and is he able to process and get to where
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: he needs to be. But yeah, I mean I think
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: that's a great example and something like Cooks this one.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: And we talked about Cooks I think during the draft weekend.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: I think that the question was when was the last
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: time we drafted a guy like that? I think? But
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: but I don't think du Assett was that kind of speed.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I know when he came out of college with but
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: he didn't play like that. That was one of Duce's
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: favorite guys to beat up on. Mike did not like
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Philip to a set all that much. But Cooks absolutely
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: played to the speed. He's dynamic guy. Oh yeah, look
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: at all the penalties he drew. And you know he
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: was here for one year. What do you have nine
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: hundred yards? Yeah that thou hundred yards. Didn't like he
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: It catches up on you, you know, but it was like, yeah,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: he really did produce. He had a good year. He
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: had one thousand and eighty two. Yeah. Yeah, it's just
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: that moment to have a guy that he gets a
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: step on the secondary and the secondary is like, oh crap,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: like we gotta chase that. That's I mean, he had
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: some big catches that year too, like, yeah, game winning touchdown.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: He also had seven touchdowns, which was second on the
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: team to Gross eight. Yeah, and how many pis did
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: he draw? I don't have that, but he had quite
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: a few that were Yeah. How did they flip him?
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: I mean, I don't want to get into Mount Cooks again,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: but everybody flips him, you know, Yeah, it's kind of
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: his He's been flipped a lot of value thing. You know.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: They like him on on their terms, and then they
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: feel like they want to cut beat Tim and Connecticut.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: I see this draft as a huge letdown. I don't
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: claim to know every player or how to evaluate a guard,
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: but it seems like thirty one teams were aligned with
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: the consensus boards and Bill misread the entire board. Maybe
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Strange turns into Logan Makons, but I see Thornton as
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: another track guy who doesn't pan out in the NFL,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: like Bethel Johnson. Marcus Jones reminds me of Ellis Hobbs.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: And the last thing I remember about him is the
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Plexico Burris catch in the Super Bowl. Jack Jones looks
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: like Terrence Wheatley, Pierre Strong looks like c J. Spiller.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: It seems like Bill misred free agent Billow. It seems
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: like Bill misred free agency last year with massive contracts
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: and he again misread the draft. Wow, that's certainly as
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: bad a scenario as you could paint right there, like
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Ellis Hobbs. Yeah, Bethel Johnson, you know, but I will say,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: if Peter Strong turns out to be c J. Spiller,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I'll be thrilled. C J. Spiller was a good player,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: but the rest of it, I wouldn't be so excited.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: And I never really thought about the Ellis Hobbs thing,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: But there's a profile there, great great kick returner, small
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: had you know, kind of struggled as a as a
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: regular full time corner and played outside corner too. So
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: if they are they going to play him at outside cornerline,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: He's still my favorite draft pick out of the ten.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: I by far and away. The way I feel the
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: best about is Marcus Jones. Me too, and then I
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: feel confident about him at least contributing immediately. Obviously strange
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: is what strange is. But I think Thornton is just
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: the the unknown. That's the like for me. If he
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: kind of has he had the biggest upside of all
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: the picks, well, I think the upside would have to
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: be Thornton. Oh, I'm sorry, I thought we were still
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: talking about Jones. Yeah, Thornton, I think so. I mean,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: I think I think you asked the question last show
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: about is that is he like what I forget how
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: you put it? Does he divide divide the draft? Something
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: like that? But I think you know what to kind
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: of expect from a lot of those high round guys,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: and you know, you don't really expect much from the
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: low round guys. I mean, if if they emerge and
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: you get something great, but there's no like wow, we
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: really need Andrew Stubert to come in and you know,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: be the right tackle. But I think if Jones is
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: the if Thornton is the kind of guy that that
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: you think he can be with the height and the
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: speed on the outside, which you know, at the very
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: least you put him outside and run down the field
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: and it's somebody to account for. But again, you know, Aglaura,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: I don't think is you know slow. I mean, I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: think he's he's okay, but you know, but but he's not. Wow.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: That guy burns on the field like it's it's not NFL.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: He looks at a fine NFL speed. Yeah, I would
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: say he's fast. I wouldn't say he's like that. I
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: agree with you. And does Thornton have that gear that
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: we're like, whoa this is? This is something we'll find
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: out later in the month. Andre Andrea, New Jersey. I
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: predicted it. I emailed in a month ago and said
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: the Patriots will not take an off ball linebacker this year.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: They are going to play the young guys. Now, what
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: kind of an ugly looking reach of a draft is?
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: This explained to me? The reason for two running backs,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: which is so unnecessary. How about a quarterback in the
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: fourth round when they could have gotten a guy undrafted
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: in free agency like EJ. Perry that they were high on.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: I'll save the first round guard for other callers and emails,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: but the team keeps finding ways to piss me off.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Of strongly worded letter to follow. I hope those guys
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: proved me wrong, but this could be as bad as
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: the twenty nineteen class. I hope they work Outre's not happy.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: I know, I don't. I mean, we can't explain what
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: they were picking. I mean, well, I mean, I'm not
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: that surprised they thought they had to draft a running
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: back at least one. I mean, you could be a
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: little surprised they drafted too. But yeah, I thought that
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: was in need. I thought they had to draft cornerbacks
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: they did. I thought they I really wanted a wide
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: receiver on Day two they did, you know. I mean,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: we can talk about did they get the right players,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: but I think they got the right positions for the
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: most part. And there's some debate. Certainly, we just said
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: edge defensive tackle. I just like the running back. I'm
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: with you because we both agreed on that. We thought
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: they would take a running back the corners. I don't
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: feel like we're a like. I don't think you can
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: take guys in the middle rounds and think that you
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: addressed a position that that that's a major position of need. Um.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: That's why I kind of thought wide receiver would be
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: on the after the Davante Parker trade. Wide receiver sort
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: of slid a little bit with me. But if they
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: really liked this guy and this guy ends up being
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: really good, then you know they'll have been proven correct.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Like you know what that guy who you know, I
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: know he was talking about Joey Galloway is the Patriot.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: But Joey Galloway was as dynamic and electric for a
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: little while in the league as any. I remember being
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: excited when they when they brought him in as he
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: was just one hundred and ten years old, way right
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: here right. I think he was pretty much set in
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: his way as he was part of that old nine
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: team that just did it did just didn't work. Yeah,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: he played a lot more though than a lot of
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: those especial just decided you didn't want to play anymore,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: like in training camp, like Joey Galloway was part of
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: the team into September, but that team was Mike. You
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: would have like you would have been Apple Party team.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: There was some oddities with the personalities in that locker room.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Sean Springs and Joey Galloway had played at Ohio State together.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: There was a little bit of yeah we would college teammates,
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: but I'm not sure that they really liked each other
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: all that much. Galloway, you know, like he would say things,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: you know, he was like my little brother, and then
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: like later you'd be like, oh, I'm taking that in
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: a little different way now, Like based on some things,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: it was an odd mix that just didn't work, that
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: the personalities didn't all mesh. It seemed like it seems
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: especially hard to manage that in professional sports, as you know,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: like I think in college you kind of get a
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: you know, if your college coach or you know, you
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: kind of sense, but pro players you gotta get certain guys,
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: but you just never know who's no, you know. Especially
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: credit to Bill, I don't really think they've had a
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: situation in the locker room at all. That was the
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: glaring one. That was the one that stands out above
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: all all the others. I think there have been some
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: minor problems here and there, but that was like credit
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: to him for being around for twenty plus years and
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: not having locker rooms that you look back on and
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: say that that team people. Yeah, I mean, we haven't
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: been in the locker room in two years. And I
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: mean I remember what open media access was like for
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: the one season I was here. I mean, how much
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: of a sense do you get to those things when
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: you're just you know, hanging out waiting for somebody to talk.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I mean, do you do you get any kind of insight?
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Very little? Is it more about like after games, it's
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: it's well, it's after the fact period when you start
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: to see, like what do you think went wrong? You know,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: when you start talking in the offseason with maybe you know,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: certain players and things like that, and you start hearing
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: some things. But I have to be honest, like while
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: that was happening, I never once I don't think we
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: had shows Fred and if you remember, but I don't
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: think we had shows during that season like this isn't
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: just this isn't mixing well, you know, this doesn't seem
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: like a Dallas Thomas is the same guy that he was.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Now they had the famous incident where the four players
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: were late for practice that day. Yeah, and that was that,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: you know, that was a major thing. It would be
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: the Jetsons. Yeah, yeah, I just I can't I can't
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: rule that out completely over the last couple of seasons,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: just based on how the season. So I think there
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: were problems last year, yes, you know, and again and
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: I said this before the show, where it's just it
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: didn't they didn't have they didn't come together and play
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: better than some of the parts they kind of fell
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: apart and played individual football and they got run over.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Didn't did we? Uh? Didn't? We get indications during the
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Boogeyman season that some deep guys in defense didn't really
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, yeah, Mike's right about that's what you said.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: The last the last couple of years, there was that,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: I mean last year with there were a couple of
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: quotes last year that stood out to me. One was
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: the Slater quote about, you know, when they were hitting
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: that losing streak, you know, we could go one of
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: two ways, and we have to decide which one we
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: want to be. And then was it Van Noy on
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: somebody's podcast talking about how, you know, Jude on getting
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: to do whatever he wants to do with one. You know,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: I think, you know, there were many times that I
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: think mccordy made references to you know and yep, yeah,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: confusion and whatnot. I just think I'm forgiving in September.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: I kind of want to see what happens, you know,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: if the offensive line doesn't play great in September, or
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: they come out flat, they have a bad game in
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: September and early October, I get it, but I my
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: expectation is and I would say this probably about any
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: team or sport, is that when you come to the
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: end of the season and you've been practicing together and
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: you've been you know, building to this crescendo of the
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: end of season, and you can talk about after Thanksgiving
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: they played their best football, all that kind of stuff,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: and when they teams play their worst football, it's just
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: a it's a big red flag. And I'm not I'm
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: not as forgiving of it. And you know, as Bill said,
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: I guess we'll find out next season when we start
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: playing again if that was a bad night or if
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: that's who we are. But I hope that you know,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: strides have been taken it. The day after day after
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: the Buffalo loss, when he talked about last year, I
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: remember that, remember those days yesterday, let's go back to
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: the phones, Sean said, Vancouver, what's up, Sean? Hey everyone? Yeah,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: I was really disappointed on Sunday with the draft, and
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I didn't ex especially since the draft wasn't on Sunday.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: He said on Sunday he was disappointing them. It's kind
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: of the it's kind of the argue about the joke,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: because he's the antithesis of you what's gonna argue about
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: this after the draft he was disappointed you. By the
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: time the draft is over, you bring you you wrap
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: yourself back around. We'll spin it a little bit. Okay,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: that's exactly what I meant. There's no spin go ahead
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: shots in the factory. I didn't exercise where I ducked
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: with Patriots original picks, and I just went through the
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: draft and took players that I thought or were projected
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: to go at at good spots and people I thought
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: the Patriots needs. Like for example, at twenty one, I
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: took trend A Duffy for Travis Jones, eighty five Leo
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Channel one, twenty seven guards Zach tom one to the
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: eight wide receiver Kyle Phillips. Yeah, so you get the pictures.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: I'm looking at at these picks and like, Okay, maybe
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: they're they're good, they're going to be great. I don't know.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: But whether I don't see on it is I don't
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: see the speed. So this is this is what the Patriots,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: like you said, what they were really focused on. They
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: were looking for fast players and that's what they went for.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: And when we look back on this staff, so we're
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: going to be seeing something you know, like two thousand
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: and five. I know, obviously, um, I don't expect Strange
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: to be Mankins, but are we going to get some players,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: like maybe even five players who who played fifteen games
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: in the NFL. So let's let's see what happens. I'm
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: gonna be looking back at these picks and see how
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: they do in comparison. Absolutely all right, Thanks Sean. Sean
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: calling in from the past. What it sounds like. Do
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: you think of the Patriots had drafted Slade Bolden in
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: the fourth round, there'd be like us significant subset of
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: people are like it was, I mean, they got Slay
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: Bolden though in the fourth I don't think you. I
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: don't think you'd be prepared for the amount of negativity
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: that would have come if they had drafted. No, correctly,
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. No, but I think that most people,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: like most most people would have been apoplectic if they
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: took that guy. I know. It's just it just shows
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: like how people value certain players and everybody Slay Bolden
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: or we Riot, like, you know, people tweeting that at
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: me and I'm like, he's not even gonna get drafted,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: Like what so, where did your guy Phillips end up
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: Tennessee and that was the other thing they were arguing
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: about today, Paul on your show. Um, you know, like
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: how how my show has even started? The draft is
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: the draft is about everybody being wrong, like even the experts,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: and even that I kind of disagree. I mean, they
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: don't get the exact player for every team, but for
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: the most part, they're in the neighborhood of where everybody
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: goes from the most part. And that's what I hate,
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: Like the and again this is the this year we're
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: doing this. Yeah, like who's grading the graders? You know,
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: like no one ever wondered, like who was grading mel
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Kiper's grade when they were getting a's. Now that that
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: he gave him a C plus, everybody's you know, wants
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: to know what his credentials are, Like who's this guy? Right?
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: I just look at it and said, if you thought
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen it was an A and that draft,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: which is which he did, right, I can only imagine
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: how bad he thinks this draft is that he thought
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: it was a C plus, Right, That's how I look
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: at it. Yeah, Like I just you can tell me
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: that you like some of these guys more than some
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: of the draft experts, and that's fine. Like everybody has
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: their opinions. I think Mike likes Taekwon Thornton more than
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: I do. I think we both in agreement that we
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: both really like Marcus Jones. I'm not telling you that
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: this is a wipeout. I like Cole Strange the player.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: I think he was drafted a little too high, but
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: I don't I don't have to go and like take
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: all of the national guys and rip them apart because
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: they gave my team a bad draft grade. I think
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: draft grades is silly. But but in in defense of me,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I thought they were silly when they were getting nas
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: every year, Yeah, without ever having played a down. And
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: I don't think this is any more silly than that.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: But these draft people, they do put in the time,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: the Dan Jeremiah's and the Dane Bruglers and the melk
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: kiper and no one doesn't with the intention of getting
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: every pick in the slot that they're taking. No, that's
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: not the that's not the goals, right, it's it's you know,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: who are the top guys? You know, you know, you try,
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: you try to say who might make sense for this team.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Some guys just ranked the players. They don't even do it,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: you know, based on who picking, yeah, you know, like
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: the first round, right, Like, like, let's just say, for
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: arguments sake, that Kenny Pickett was the twentieth best player
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: in this draft. He's not, but let's just say he was,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: and they would just put him twentieth, right, whether maybe
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: the Patriots were picking twenty if there's no way they
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: would have taken Kenny Pickett, right, Some guys that do
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: these mock rats, they're not. Their goal isn't to get
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: it right. The goal is to rank the players. Other
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: guys try to slot the teams with the players. But
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: you made the point, almost all of these guys have
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: a vast I think we ended up with like twenty
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: six and we don't even know we're doing. We did
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: it in like ten minutes, like but you know, between
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: filling up you know with gas. Uh, Like Mike and
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I seriously did not spend a whole lot of time
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: doing a mock draft. We got almost all of the
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: first round picks taken in the first round, right right, that,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: I mean, that's all. Like I just hate the the
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: the wild Andy Hart swing from the corner because I'm
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: back into a corner because my team was was criticized
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: and I have to just rip everybody that that maybe
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: had something negative to say. Uh, let's get back to
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: the phones. Cody's in Cincinnati. Hey Cody, Oh boy, what's
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: what's going on the phone talking to your Yes we can,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: we can hear you, but you're not a good kick out.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Uh okay, Well I'll just say the short then I'm
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: from the moon. Yeah, it's like, yeah, the International Space Station.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Maybe I got my ways. He's a guy that we're
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: all sort of looking forward to seeing. Sorry, Cody, it's
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: a tough connection. Yeah. I think it's not your fault.
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: I think the phone has let you down. I think
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: that Tae Kwon Thornton is a guy that we're all
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: sort of anxious, intrigued, intrigued. I'm not going to tell
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: you that he's gonna step in and be Randy Moss
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: or anything like that, but I'm intrigued. Well, you mentioned it, like,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: is it possible to say that everybody's draft, not just
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: the Patriots, there's one guy that defines that draft good
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: or bad, you know. So last year it was probably
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Matt Jones. He defined the twoy twenty one draft agreed.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: You know who would it be this year? You know
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: who will be hard? Good or bad? Yeah? Harder, harder
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: to say. But I think that Thornton's a good choice
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: because I don't think like even the two corners, like,
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I'm not expecting either of them and this is not
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: a good thing, but expecting them to be a starting
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: on the team. You took a wide receiver in the
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: second round, and you needed a fast wide receiver. But
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: I think that in this you're gonna make fun of me.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: I know, but that's okay, Okay, you're gonna look at this.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: You're gonna look at this as a negative take. I
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: think this draft is going to be defined by the
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: guys that they passed on between twenty one and twenty nine,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: and the three wide receivers that got taken right after Thornton.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: If those guys are really if Trent McDuffie's a really
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: good corner and George Pickens or Alec Peters, you a
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: guy is a really good wide receiver and your guys
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: are just average right look out below. But that's the point.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: If Thornton's really good, we don't care about all that
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: other guys are better. But well, if they're a little better,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: but if Thornton's producing for our team, we'll be fine
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: with that. Well, I have to see what the other
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: guys are doing. That's why I think it's gonna be defined.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: Like if Alec Pierce goes on to be like a
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: six time All Pro and your guy is just okay,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: he's just you know, another receiver, I think you're gonna
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: look at it and say, we blew it. Yeah, if
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: he's that much better, you'll be saying That's why I
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: think it's gonna be defined. Again, I get it. It's
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: a kind of a negative look at it. I don't
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: mean it that way, but this is so those first
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: two picks were so outside of where those guys were
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: supposed to go. You can't help but look at the
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: guys that were taken. And then yeah, in the vicinity
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: the guys that you pass. So those two guys and
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: you better hope the other guys aren't great. Yeah, it's
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: it's a two part equation, that's what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: like your guy being good in someone else's guy being
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: an All Pro. You missed the All Pro. And it's
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: a really high ceiling for strange to like for him
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: to live up. He almost but he see I look
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: at the opposite, it's almost impossible for him to be
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: so bad. I guess that too. I think if you
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: ask if you asked a hundred Patriots fans about Isaiah
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Wynn right now, they would tell you he's fine when
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: he plays. Yeah, that's why, even though he hasn't been,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: they'll tell you he's fine when he plays. That's why
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: I don't think it will be defined by the first
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: round pick. I think it's I agree with you, guys
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: on Thornton. I think he's more of a referendum right
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: on the class itself because a guard is too high.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: You went with a fast wide receiver at a smaller school,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: from a smaller school. Yeah, I agree with you. You know, yeah, Um,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Justin's in Virginia, Hey Justin. Yeah, that's it going you guys.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: I want to kind of continue on with the conversation
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: you just said. Is it overly nitpicky to say that,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: like even if Pole Strange is like a pro Bowl guard,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: to say, well, damn, Like when you took shot ball
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: in the middle of the draft, you still got a
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Pro Bowl guard, right, And I don't. I don't have
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: anything against the player. But the action of taking a guard.
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: That's why I say what Trent mcduffio Jamaine Johnson does
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: is good because those are harder. You're not You're not
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: those are harder to get. Like the guard. Jack Mason
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: was a Pro Bowl caliber guard. I mean some of
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: those analytics sites had him the best Patriot last year. Well,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: even if you were gonna reach I think a guy
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: like high year Elam, you look at him and say,
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: he might reach that the cornerback depth chart, he might
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: be a number one or two guy on the cornerback
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: that start. Then that knocks everyone else down and you
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: just look at that position differently. Yeah, I think we
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: could have gotten like a guard and like so like
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: three interior linemen between like the fourth and seventh pick,
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: and we would have still kind of looked at the
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: guard position similarly. Honestly. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, and that's
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: the point of a lot of people with that real
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: quick think. I would feel better if they took a
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: guard like a round or two later. Yeah, Like I
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: have no listen, they had to get it. They had
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: to get a guard, they had to get a guy
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: that they had to be a candidate to start. I
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: get it, they had to do it. I just would
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: feel better if we could have gotten something else in
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: the first round. Do you think, though, that there's something
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: we said and that this is a team in a
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: position right now where they just need to hit doubles
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: and they don't need to swing for the fences because
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: they need players who can come in and play solid
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: more than like Strange. Strange definitely falls into that. But
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Thorton for the fences. Yeah, well, and I think the
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: two I think the two Jones boys are swinging for
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: the fences too. Those guys might be really good, and
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: they might be out of the league in two years.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Like if for Marcus Jones in particular, you know, I'm
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: really high on him. He might just be too small. Yeah,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: that could happen, but that's to me, that's a swing
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: for the fence. Thorton, especially, Thorton's a guy who could fly,
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: who most people thought was like a fifth round pick.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: You take him up, you trade up to get him
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: in the second round. I mean, I guess just focusing
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: on Strange, that's I keep going back to. If like
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: Strange as that guy, I certainly would take Strange over
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Sony Michelle. I'd certainly take Strange over Ni kill Harry.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: You know some of the other whisps you would now, yeah, yeah,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: but I don't know, but yeah, but I know it's
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: it's yeah, you have the benefit of hindsight right with them.
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: But but we we weren't all sitting here like what
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: when when when Nikki Harry got picked, We're like, Okay,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: Now I hated because of the position. I'm very consistent,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: but not because I thought Sony Michelle couldn't play. I
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: thought he was really good. I didn't know the Nie
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: stuff at the time until we drafted. Let's go to
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: Nelson in La Hey Nelson today? Hey, yes, uh can
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: you hear? Yeah? Ad and Claire you've had you have
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: you get the award for best connection so far? Yep? Yeah?
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: All right, yeah, talking about how about we like messed
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: up on the draft? What about we get these though?
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: What about it don't matter about what dar player you got.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: What about he comes at work every week, does his job,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: doesn't get injured. He's not gonna get a lot of
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: yards or nothing like that. But as long as we
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: get that w I'm good with the draft pick this week.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: This week? Yeah, what if we don't get the w
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: who is this strange? Whoever? Whoever? As long as they win,
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: you're good. Yeah, And I agree, who's gonna argue if
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: they win? If they go seventeen and oh, great draft?
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: I think they got three great draft picks last and
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: what happened? And what happens if they go seven and ten?
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: But that's the thing. I mean, it's you know, Nelson, Nelson,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: you know. The thing is like, you can't win unless
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: you have strong drafts consistently, and you can't have you know. Yeah,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: So if you're getting w's, you've been drafting. Well day yesterday, nice,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: happy birthday, Nelson. You sorry, Matt, I'm jealous, Paul, thanks,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: thanks Nelson from me, you don't even like Star Wars.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: I get everything from you either that Feld or bass
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: Ramone and Tampa. My take on the show, this show,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: and forgive my writing skills. I love it and tune in.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: It's changed in the ten plus years i've been listening.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: Paul seems to have become someone else slightly after Andy left,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: similarly to Eric, but you guys are still loved. The
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: only thing I change is better. You mean, I don't know.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: I'll give you the biggest difference between me now and
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: me when Andy was here. Yeah, I only argue with
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: Fred now. I used to argue with Andy Ann fresh
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: your blood pressure. We gotta get Brian Morey bad. Oh god,
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: now that was I mean, no one, No one get
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: under my skin like Fred never gets under my skin
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: like Brian Morey did. I No, he I can see that. Brian,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: I don't even know. I know, I know enough I
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: can see his like how he epitome of Brian Moorey
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: is let me tell you why you're wrong, which which
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: drives this one nuts. Let me let me tell you
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: why you don't know what you're talking about. Uh, he says.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: The things he change are less talking over each other.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: That's good, more new blood emails and callers that I
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: am I wholeheartedly agree with. But that's up to you, guys,
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: that's up to the list. You know what's funny, like
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: not that we want to copy what is going on
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: and Paul shows, but how many shows does he have?
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: But on all my Felgren mad But on all those shows,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: it does seem like the same callers sometimes get that
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: literally all this it's been around longer, right us, Right,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: that's right, Fred, you should have seen some of the
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: battles Fred used to have with Felger. Felger used to
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: do a show on ESPN Radio and he had a
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: Patriots Friday and he would come into here, into our
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: studio to do it, and players would come in periodically
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: and we would do a crossover because we would set
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: it up. Remember it was on Patriots dot com, right,
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: so we would set it up and they would do
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: a crossover. And you think, you know me, I've never
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: backed up. I was a shrinking violin compared to the
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: way Felger and Fred would just go at it. Oh screaming.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: He called me a liar and oh yeah, and they
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: would like five minutes, right, and they would be finished,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: and then it was just good job, good jobs, Fred,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: leave it go have a good show. How much has
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: Felger refined his his game over over the years, I
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: mean was he did he come in, he was in
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the paper. He's more polished in terms of like ins
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: and outs and running a show. He used to be,
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: you know, just sort of a guy who had opinions
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: and was good when he was giving his opinions, but
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: wasn't necessarily getting in and out of topics or break
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: He's more more polished. I would say, I don't think
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: his any question about it, but but he got friends,
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: not lying, he got everything from I mean, like that
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: that all started here, That started right here in this ship,
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: right here, in this studio. It was like you talk
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: about Radio Gold, we're going back to like go four five. Yeah,
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: you know, a long time there was nothing to argue about,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: but we would. I mean we were fourteen and two
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: every year, but we found a way to yell at
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: each other. It was I mean, like knocked down, drag
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: out fights three games. That's gonna cost you in the
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: AC Championship game when you're on the road. Like literally,
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: we'd have a half hour on that. But the thing
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: I like to tease Felger about it. I haven't talked
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: to him in a long time, but you know, he
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: used to be the beat writer here and when he was,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: you think Mike Reese is in their pocket or you know,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: and I say, Mike really isn't. He's just factual, But
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: Felger was in the pocket. To the point when Robert
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: had his fortieth anniversary, it was me, Felger and Scott
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: Pioli at a table. So that's how he was, like
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: in you know him and Rabel used to go out
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: a little bit too well. Rabel went out with everybody.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: He was the best. Yeah, Rabel would bust anyone's ball
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: like I'd walk in like he busted Teddy Bruski's balls
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: for having a stroke. I know, I read about it.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: I'd walk in with like a like a brown dress
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: shirt on going with the fall colors today? What what
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: the fraud TV show you're gonna be on today? Ball
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: like like, hey, Mike, Hey, good to see you. You know,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: I didn't realize we were doing that, but okay, Yeah,
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: he's got a friend like that. I love I love him,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: but I would fight him that there. I've got a
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: couple of friends like that. Oh I love you. He's
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: one of those guys. He's one of those guys. And
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: then you know, God forbid, you're out with it for
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: a beer or something. He's not that I was ever
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: out for a beer with Mike Rabel, but I could
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: imagine he's He's the guy that you always had a babysit. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: you know, do you ever have that because he's got
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: a smart mouth. Oh yeah, you ever have that friend
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: that you got a couple in him? And all of
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: a sudden, you gotta put like five guys around your
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: friend to make sure everybody gets out of the barrow.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: Kevin Gates, if you're listening, you I can only imagine
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: if Paul wasn't that guy I was. I swear to god,
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: I was nothing even close to that guy. Oh my god,
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: Ramone writes it. So he told us the things he
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: wants us to get A one more cut calls that
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: drag quicker. I listen, I have a new name on
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: the call, the call right now. I give him a chance.
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: Uh he says. Now about the team, I really don't
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: know what to think about where we are. I don't
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: feel strong about the players coaching chances next year. Objectively,
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: I hope Robert has told Bill that he has two
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: years to do something meaningful. But if this year is
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: just underwhelming, uh um. But if this year is just underwhelming,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: he goes Alec Baldwin on him, put that coffee down,
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: coffees for closers only. It may sound unfair, but nostalgia
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: and mediocrity doesn't get us where we all want to be.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: ABC right always be. That was from the Alec Baldwin
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: side in the last sketch where he pretended to be
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: the head elf and it's a good one. Look at
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: Glen Garry. Glenn Rose was Ross Ross What Ross There
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: was a great movie, great movie, great actors places. He
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: had a lot of good late eighties, early nineties. Um
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: I caught him forget it. And there was one thriller
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: he did that I where he was like a doctor.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: I'm a yeah that was the name of Yah Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: god complex. Yeah. He also had a really a disturbing
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: crime movie where he was like a criminal. It was
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: like Blue Moon or something like that, where like he
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: cuts off his own fingers, like yeah, he's it's really good.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: I mean he could as like a dark evil guy
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: and it's And then those guys when they actually have
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: a sense of humor are really funny too. Yeah humor
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: canteen boy, you ever say that one with that? I'm
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: standing run that's a good one too. Morell knows all right, Um,
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: what was I gonna do? Oh? Take go back to
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: the phone, because is that the same Saturday Live that
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: he was the Pete Schwady that maybe? I mean he's
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: but he's like how many that nine times? Did he?
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: Hope it? I don't know. Unfilled yeah, sweaty balls, like
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: it's a problem men suffer from what um is that
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: Parlo's disease. That's a little person. That's the crooked the
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: bent Carrott. Yeah what wow? I thought you would just
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: call him be fat? No? No, what get okay? Now,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: I don't I thought you spoke fred I do. That's true.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: Dropped the ball was in Paul had a bent appendage? Yes,
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: I think he was. He was. It's called yeah the
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: dog leg left. The commercial they showed the ben you
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: gonna get a quick night this afternoon saw there. I'm
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: gonna say, you know, like I'm no prude, all right,
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: like I don't get offended, blah blah blah. But some
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: of these commercials now, especially like the channels of my
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: wife watches like we and Start or whatever, like they're
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: really really grad It's like, you know, um, erectile function. Yeah,
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: panties that don't leak and this and that, and it's
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: like it's really graphic, like we're twenty years ago, like
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: it wouldn't allow that stuff on. You know, it's a
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: different world we're living. So there's a lot of odd
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: commercials on. I will say that it's just two ed commercials. Well,
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: that's a graphic and she'll like it too, Thomas. Yeah,
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: and she's like eugenics, Yeah, a joke. We're leaving nothing
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: to the imagination. No, you know, well, I think it
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: always tells you something about yourself based on what ads
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: are being fed into the show, right, why you know
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: what they think? Right, you're like looking down speaking of Yeah,
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: I saw the yeah, speaking of I saw the finale
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: of Mozark. Oh yeah, and uh, your scoutter report, I
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: know not. I know you didn't see it because you
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: don't want to show you said that. You just a messenger.
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: You heard it was excellent. It was not excellent. Oh really, Oh,
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: sorry to hear that. No, it was it was a letter.
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: I thought. The last the last seven, you know, it
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: was like a half season. They did it. They dropped
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: the season four was dropped in two seven part episodes,
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: and the last the last seven. We're not good. The
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: trailer for a House of Dragons is out the prequel
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: to the Game of Thrones, and then it looks good.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: If you can't make your trailer look good, forget about
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: the show. You know. Of course, it looked good, it
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: looked great. I enjoyed Game of Thrones. It was what
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: it was as far as the ending. But I don't.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: I think I'm out. I don't. I don't know. I
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: come down. I think like I can't invest, and like
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: I hear that about the Targarians, that's that's a big
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: fred is him. I don't have time. I hear that,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: though I hear that, it's it's a lot. Is is
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: Martin never gonna finish the books? He's I don't know,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: didn't he not? He keeps like dripping things out like this,
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: what's really gonna be long? Hey man, flight attend I know,
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: what's the point. Well, you can do your previous look
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: too weird for me. I don't think I'm gonna watch
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: season two. I watched, like I think we saw the
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: first two episodes, but I haven't seen one in a while.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: I'm just was curious if you were watching Flight Attendant.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: I can't. I can't figure out if she's good looking
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: or not. Like sometimes she's like a two faces. The
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: answer is yes, Sometimes it's she looks good and sometimes
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: she does hundred percent. Can't get it, can't pin her down,
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: Not sure. Sometimes yes, sometimes I think she's pretty odd. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: I don't make me a creepy old man. I don't know.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: She's just a famous actress. I think. Is that okay,
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: famous actress? It's okay, yeah, yeah. The fact that she's like,
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: you know, probably could go out with will. I think
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: she's older. Actually, no, she was on Big Banks. There's
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: actually I think she's in a like late thirties or forties,
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: late thirties. I thought you should look up Kayley quoko
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: A pretty sure she's my age. Oh, thirties. I don't
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: feel as creepy. I thought she was in her thirties.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: Two guy, I can say that. I don't know. Wasn't
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: she on some other show too? Eight Simple Rules Dating?
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: Oh right, that's thirty six thirty six, it's not it's
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: not that creepy. Yeah. Uh. Let's go back to the phone.
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: It's in Connecticut. What's up on that swan? Actually it's
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: one man okay, banish for John Okay. I have two
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: quick questions for you guys. Uh, I want to hear
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: your thoughts. Uh. My first question is, do you guys
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: see a potential Marcus Jones being a Tyrek Hill type receiver,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: maybe beat from up a little bit. What are your
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: thoughts on that? No, well, he'd have to change. They've
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: talked about pay I know he played offense. I'm not
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: I know that, but I think they I think they
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: drafted him as a corner. No, yeah, I think so
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: return around, I would be my guess. I think will
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: you'd be surprised if you see him take some rel
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: And that's why I don't dismiss it, right, I think
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: one I think one's question is legit. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: don't know if he's that quick though, Is he like
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: not Tyreek Hill quick? Is he? Oh? No? No? No,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: But I mean I think there's maybe a world where
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: you're thinking about him covering Tyreek Hill or you know,
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: try and wad. Yeah, you know, well that was somebody
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: brought up the point with what's going on, particularly in Miami.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: Do you think that that was their thing? Like, we
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: just need guys. Step one is to keep up with them,
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: all right, Then the technique is the second part. But
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: you know, we have at least have to be in
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: the vicinity of these technique. Won't matter if you're three
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: or four yards behind him, right, And that's I mean,
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: but I think the thing that stands out Marcus Jones,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: not like quickness, really just fluidity and athleticism to match.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: You know that that's the thing, that that's you know,
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: one particular play I watched with him where he just
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: like flipped his hips and was right with a guy
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: who who you know, suddenly changed direction. Um, not so
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: much with Jack Jones, but I think he's he's just feisty.
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: You know, he's a feisty player who seems to make
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: plays on the ball. So I think there is some
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: response there to what the Dolphins and other teams of
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: time anything else. Long since you're a new caller and
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: we had a new we had a call for new callers,
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: and then I know it's too soon to tell, but
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: the undrafted free agent Devin Davin halford Um, I don't
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: know if you guys seen any tape on him, but
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: he seemed like a heavy hitter and like lots of
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: room leader. So I was just curious. Have you guys
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: got a chance to see any of his tape? Who
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: is that Devin Halfer? Oh Halfer? Yeah, Yeah, I watched
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: a little of him. I mean, he was a captain.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: I think he was the player of the year in
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: his in his conference. He's I think he's been there
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: a while. I think he's a little older. Um, not big.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: I mean I was kind of curious if he might
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: have some outside it's corner potential, but he seemed okay,
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: it's tough with the level of competition, But yeah, I
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: dug a little bit on him. I think he's probably
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: just you know, kind of camp depth. I don't really
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: have a lot of intrigue with him. But thanks one Jude.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: Can I ask you, I know that you wrote the
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: story on the undrafted guys. Is there a guy with
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: the profile of maybe like was a potential second or
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: third round pick who did something in college and went
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: undrafted as a result, or you know, like a jac Jackson. No, no, no,
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: because those are the guys I look for, um, you know,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: for you want to be an impact, Like Malcolm Butler
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: went to West Alabama, he had some trouble in college,
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: you know, kind of you know, had some red flags again.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: J C. Jackson obviously had the thing at Florida, ended
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: up at Maryland. These are guys, you know. Jackson in
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: particular was a guy who was thought of as a
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: Day two pick and then he goes undrafted. Yeah. I
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: think that for the most part, the undrafted free agents
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: aren't really like I know that this like this long streak,
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: most of them really aren't these great I mean, you
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: get offensive and defensive lineman once on David Andrews, terrific,
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: undrafted or you know, free agent, Um, that's that's what
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: you're looking for. But in terms of like impact skill guys,
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: and if there's not a situation like that, I'd be no. No.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: I think the only guy that maybe then intrigued me
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: a tiny bit was was DeMarcus Mitchell from Purdue, who
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: played across from karloftis so um, you know, and we said, like, man,
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: why didn't they add an edge? And so finally getting
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: a chance, he worked out for the Patriots. They came
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: to his pro day. Um. You know, he was literally
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: quoted as saying, you know, Patriots told me I'm an
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: outside linebacker in their system. Um. But you know, I
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: like the idea of him. Once I started watching him,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: he didn't really seem like a dynamic, powerful type athlete.
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: He seemed like a fine college player. Um. You know,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: I know some of the other guys had injury issues,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: like the Lebryan Ray from Alabama. You know, Alabama a
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: great pedigree, But um, just couldn't couldn't stay on the field,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: couldn't start stringing it together. So uh and Russy at
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: the center, he's interesting. He's just small, he's like six
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: feet tall, but he had like thirty eight reps or
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: something crazy on the bench. So yeah, exactly, exactly right,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: exactly so uh not not a ton of intrigue. I
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: did bring up Brendon school or just as like a
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: special teams type guy who played offense and defense and
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: has some good size and has some good athleticism. But
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: all the guys Paul going through them, they're all listed
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: in like either one of the last couple profiles or
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: best of the rest undrafted groups. Right, Okay, let's go
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: to Adam and Idaho. What's up Adam, It says Aaron, Hey,
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: that's my fault that this time it was my fault.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: I'm just a walk with my daughter and beautiful Idaho yesterday,
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: North or South Idaho, because I'm familiar with both Eastern
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: Eastern Okay, so by the Washington Hole Okay, yeah, very nice,
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: Yeah towards that way. Um, I just had two questions.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: I was gonna sat, look, yeah, what do you guys think, Um,
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: they'll think maybe a little gunshot from taking the sexually
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: and obvious big name pick. And that's why maybe he
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: has his own draft board. He doesn't even look at
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: anything else or what do you think is going on there?
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean last year has seemed pretty
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: on point for where I mean Mac at fifteen, Barmore
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: kind of fell a little bit. They went up, I
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: mean the top fifteen, you know, so you know, you
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: don't really get a chance at those. Yeah, yeah, I mean,
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: who knows what really goes through Bill's mind when you
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: know he's saying this is the guy. It's I'd love
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: to know, you know, what really gets them going, you know.
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: I mean I think Paul's point earlier about just the character,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: the personality, the durability, you know, those and again to
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: bring it back to that like growing up at Navy
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: and one of these Navy guys who will run into
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: a wall for you in or you know, just really
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: really good people and those are always the ones that
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: that stand out. But I think this year there was
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: more on the more on the measurable end of the things,
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: more on the speed numbers in the you know, it's
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: almost like if I have two comparable guys at comparable talent.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: One guys at a small school, one guy's at Ohio State.
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: If I draft a guy at a small school, he'll
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: be more beholden to me and come in with more
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: of a chip on his shoulder and you know, prove
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: it type of guy. Then, you know, I don't know.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: I don't know. I've heard of that a lot, do you.
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: You don't really believe that. I have no idea. I
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: don't believe it. I mean, I've heard that. I've heard that.
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: I've heard him. People say that a lot, that they
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: want guys that they think it'll be easier to sign
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: them on their second contract. Oh well, you know, they'll
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: they'll be beholden to them, they'll be more loyal, Like
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: I really like, don't think this even less than one
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: percent chance. I would hope that they're not looking that
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: far ahead to the second contract and I'm worried about
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: what he does. They're not looking at anything other than
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: finding good players that can help your team. Yeah, thanks, Aaron. Uh,
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: let's go to Henry and Leeds. What's up? Henry? Who leads? Hi? Guys?
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: Just just quick Eric? Yeah, getting a punking? You get wait?
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: Hold on now? Yeah, leads leads better stay in the
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: Premier League. I don't know, manp Socer. I thought it
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: was literally like, oh, he's gonna go into Eric right now.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: This is gonna guys are on the brink. Fine, um,
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: quick question, I'll take off line. Um. Still the same
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: is pretty much everyone else the dropped the thing very defloyed.
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: Don't mind some of the players, don't any of the pick.
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: My question is, how do we think Mac feels about
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: all this when he was watching it Thursday night and
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: we're you know, some good players lost on the board.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Was he excited when they took a guard? Same with
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: a receiver? Thought, and yeah, he was excited about him.
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: I'll find you guys, all right, thanks Henry. I found Mac.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: I got a guard, and I got a speedy receiver.
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: Let's go, and you got let's go. And I got
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: all those guys from last and throw Parker run in
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: the mix too. And you know if I backs and
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: let's go, I got a much easier time looking at
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: the offense and saying, you know, maybe they can they
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: can pull something out out of this. Now, it's not
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: like a guarantee. There's isn't you know, a proven one
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: A receiver or running back on the team. But I
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: think they got a lot of really good guys, and
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: I think based on how the competition goes this summer
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: that you know, there really could be something there. You
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: want to talk about the defensive side of the ball,
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: that's a little bit more of a you know, of
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: a stretch, trying to see how that that's going to
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: come together. But I think Mac has to be happy
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: they've given them coming off last season. Two things. On
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: the offense, are they gonna be harder to defend? Because
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: I've heard that I heard that too much. They're easy
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: to defend. I've never heard that before of a Patriots offense.
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: That that startled me. So are they gonna be a
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: little bit more difficult to defend? And on defense? Can
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: they force a punt? That's if here's that line, But
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: that's just a little bit disrespect. That's how the season ended.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: So we gotta we gotta move on from there. But
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: I'll be encouraged to see everybody out there in a
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: few weeks. If he's got all, if he's got born
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: in Agalore and Henry and Smith and the new guys
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: and everybody is here and they're all working together. Then
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: you know, it's just it's a new kind of dynamic.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: You're here. Everybody's killing the Patriots they had the worst draft.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: The Jets surpassed them. They didn't force a punt. I mean,
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: it's it's them against the world this season, you know.
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: And on offense, if you look at it, they've got
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: pieces they do. They've got they got to play, they
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: got to execute, and Mac needs to take a step
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: and be able to deal with the ups and the
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: downs and really take control of the offense and you know,
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: spread it around. But I think they've they've got the
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: elements to be a good offense that can move the ball.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: I don't know how good they mean, even offensive line.
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: If Trent Brown is healthy, you've got your right tackle.
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: If when is healthy, you got a left tackle. You've
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: got good out of there. Yeah, I think they're good.
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: I think they're good. You've got David Andrews, who's solid
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: in the middle. You've got this your first round pick,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: a guard you know, maybe, I don't know, and when
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: you maybe yeah, yeah, And so on offense, you've got
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: the elements to have a good offense. I'm less worried
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: about the like in last years you know, Paul, last
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: year's like when everyone was saying defense, I would say, no,
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: I'm worried about the offense. I'm now I'm switching. Yeah,
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: I'm back to now worrying about the defense. I'm still
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: worried equally about both. I agree with everything you're saying
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: about the defense, but I just think I have my concern.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: I think the difference, too, though, is that we're used
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: to seeing is this going to be a great offense?
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: That was the bar. Well, we want to get back.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: You certainly want to get back to that. But I
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: think you know, when you say good, it has to
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: be good. It's good. You know, it's not like, Wow,
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: this is going to be an all time offense. Like
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: I'm not going to tell you that. But I think
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: that they can be better than they were last year.
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: I think they had the pieces to be better than
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: last year. They've you know, brought in Parkers, a legitimate
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: NFL receiver. Thornton's got some speed, You've got a couple
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: of running backs to pad the depth when you got
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: you know, I mean during that like losing streak, you're
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: missing a couple of the running backs. You know, you
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: had Stevenson in you had Harrison. You kind of were
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: rotating those guys, so you got some more depth there.
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: You have Brandon Bolden, who God bless him, did a
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: great job. But now I know we're not going to
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: have a fullback, you know, but I mean I'd be
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: able to get over that. The biggest thing to me
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: for improvement is that you have to hope the guys
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: that came in last year are better this year. Yes,
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: because I think there's more than likely that Cole strangers
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: You're the only guy that's going to play on offense
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: that you didn't have last year. I don't think the
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: running backs will play much. I don't think Thornton will
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: play much as rookies. So you have to hope that
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: Henry and Smith are better. You have to hope that
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: born in Agalo are better, and you have to hope
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: that Mac is better. Yea. And Parker gives you something
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: a Parker and strange. Yes, Parker. I forgot about Parker.
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: Ye I'm not as hiring him as others, but he
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: will play ye unless something you know, because listen, I'm
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: not healthy. Yeah, but I think the depths a part
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: of it too. And last year I think that you know,
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: the guys you named off that they had when they
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: didn't have one of them or you know, it's a
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: big drop off. I think they've got some depth, some
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: pieces to work with that, you know, maybe give you
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: something new, they get a chance. They less depth on
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: the offensive line, proven yeah, I mean they lost two
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: starters in the offensive line, so you have less depth
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: than you had last year. Yaha, yep. Yeah, I mean
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: if Trent Brown goes down, you're in trouble just like
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: you were last year. You know. Yeah, I mean, I
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: I'm just talking about the guys that they have. I'm
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: not assuming that guys are going to get hurt. Yeah,
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: I think that your your offensive line isn't as good
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: as it was last year, even if no one gets hurt,
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: like you're you're replacing two starters with one guy in
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: the draft. No, I know, but I think Cole Strange
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: is going to be better than Ted Carris. Okay, even
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: if he is a when you wasn't better than Ted
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: Carres and now he's got to start, Yeah, and cars
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: when you wasn't better than Shaq Mason is what you
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: want to say. He wasn't better than Carris either, or
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: he would have played over him. Yeah, Carris played pretty
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: well when he came into No Listen, I love me
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: Ted Carris, but cole Strange better be better better. I'm
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: willing to give you that. Yeah. I don't know that
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: that will be the case. I don't know that I'm
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: but I'm willing to give you that. Yeah, but they're
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: not as good as they were. They lost two guys
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: that played over A when you Ye, so I can't
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: just pencil lawhen you when it's being better than that. Well,
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: he got a chance to play and lost the job. Yeah,
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: but sometimes they like Eric, We've talked about it before.
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: Sometimes they like to keep things as consistent as possible
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: rather than move guys around. Right, make a few changes, yeah,
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: I think, which to me is more glaring that they
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: took a when You out because they do like that.
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: They liked the cohesion, but they didn't like the way
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: he was playing, so they made a change. Yeah. I
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: want to see him when you a right guard too,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: that's his natural position, that's where he played in college. Yeah,
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: that's part of the equation too, of right, you know,
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: is he a better could be a position? I will
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: just tell I'm gonna make this prediction, right, now the
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: answer to that will be yes, he will be better
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: than Shack. Oh oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: you get. Jeff's in Texas. What's up, Jeff? Yeah, Hi guys,
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: Uh hey, I want to talk about the Uh well,
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: first of all, I'd like to show it today. It's
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: it's definitely more positive. Kind of felt like Tuesday was
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: was kind of a bummer, I mean, less positive, like
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: after the weekend, you know, we're kind of thinking over
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: the picks and then you know, listening and end just
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: be hearing, you know, not expecting guys to sugarcoat anything,
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: and they think it's just kind of maybe it was
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: more of a reality check, you know, just a lot
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: of question marks. Right well, listen, I, like I said,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: I they didn't do what I wanted him to do.
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna, you know, say, now, oh that's great,
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: but I don't I'm not saying it was a subpart
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: of draft either, because I don't know, but they I
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: know they didn't do what I wanted. Yeah, And I mean, Jeff,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: I hope you think I hope you want us to
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: be honest. I hope you don't want us to just
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: be you know, Pollyanna all the time like everything's great,
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: every nothing to see here. You know, if there are
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: days when we have to be a little pessimistic, then
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: so be it. You know, I hope that's how you feel. Yeah,
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: And I mean, and before I get to my point,
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: and then like when when I heard Paul say he
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: despied the draft, I was like, oh my god, that's
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: a good line. Anyway, Um, the point I want to
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: get to and you guys already talked about this a
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: little bit during the show today that you didn't really
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: talk about on Tuesday, But I want to talk about Craft. Um.
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: So when Craft came out at the owners meeting and said,
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: you know, um that you know, we're not happy. We
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: haven't won a playoff game in three years. You know,
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: we're not happy, and we have to do better in
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: the draft. We have to build through the draft. So
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: that was like exclamation point that you know, we have
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: to have a great draft. And then you know, so
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: my question is like, you know, what, what do you
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: think Craft thinks? I mean? And do you think he
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: looks around to see what some of the analysts are
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: saying I mean, or did he just go by you
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: know what Craft and everybody what Belichick and and grow
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: tell them. I mean I think, yeah, I think you
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: listen to all of it. I think he hears everything.
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: How can you not if you want, I mean just
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: on L Network or ESPN any day. I mean, don't
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: you think he's disappointed or a little upset maybe with
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: I think he has a lot of faith in Belichick
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: and he leaves the football to Belichick. But yes, I
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: think he's He's watching. We're all frustrated. He's watching. It's
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: keeping he's keeping track. He's a fan and a businessman, correct,
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: you know. I mean, I don't know how any Patriot
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: fan can't at least be a little bit frustrated. How
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: the last you know, few years have gone, and I
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: think there's an element of understanding that Brady left and
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: it wasn't going to immediately be perfect, But expectations are high.
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: People love sports here. They want to win. They're they're
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: fired up. They don't want this to just all of
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: a sudden fall in this. I think I'm more I
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: seem to be more patient than most of the fans
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: on this show. You know, like I me too, because
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: I have fun with the process a team, right, you
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: you're having fun? Yeah? This is fun for dues. All right, thanks,
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: but everything is fun for Duce. Yeah. I just want
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: to be as happy as he was in life, not
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: for one day, not filling up one of those all right,
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: Well you're only coming from Sharon. I know nothing. You
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: could walk here, Yeah, you can ride your bike. I
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: was starting to walk down the road and making a
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: joke about going in to fill up, you know, to
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: pay inside, you know. But yeah, right, I took the offer.
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: Rampai that Yeah, using a lot of highway metaphors there,
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: I'm just driving. All right. That's gonna be it for
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: this edition of Patriots. I'm sheltered. Um. I hope everyone
