- 1:06Speaker 1: podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome to Disgraceland. The
- 1:11Speaker 1: after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode, a little
- 1:28Speaker 1: thing we like to call the after party. This is
- 1:31Speaker 1: the show after the show, the party after the party,
- 1:33Speaker 1: the bridge to get you from one full episode of
- 1:35Speaker 1: Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig into the dirt.
- 1:38Speaker 1: On this episode, we are talking about the conclusion of
- 1:42Speaker 1: our two part Peter Tosh story, with part two in
- 1:44Speaker 1: your Disgraceland feeds right now. Conspiracy theories, some of them
- 1:47Speaker 1: involving Peter Tosh's assassination, and of course your voicemails, text,
- 1:51Speaker 1: dms and more, and as always, a whole lot of rosy.
- 1:55Speaker 1: All right, disc goes, let's get into it, all right.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Conspiracy theories they're a tough hang for me. They are
- 2:14Speaker 1: a useless wormhole in my opinion. On the one hand,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I don't really believe it actually in conspiracy theories. Let
- 2:21Speaker 1: me explain. In the world out there, of course, on
- 2:23Speaker 1: the Internet and elsewhere, there are of course conspiracy theories.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I acknowledge that they do exist. I believe that those
- 2:29Speaker 1: are a thing, Yes, of course I do. But what
- 2:32Speaker 1: I don't believe in most of the time anyways, is
- 2:34Speaker 1: that these secret cabals, these powerful elements of society, the
- 2:38Speaker 1: Illuminati or whatever. I don't believe that they band together
- 2:40Speaker 1: in secret to come up with some sort of master
- 2:42Speaker 1: plan to pull off that results in people being killed
- 2:45Speaker 1: or subjugated or whatever. What I do believe happens more
- 2:49Speaker 1: often than not is that powerful forces are unleashed for
- 2:53Speaker 1: whatever reason, but usually by happenstance, sometimes by willful ignorance,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and very rarely in conjunction with one another. And these
- 2:59Speaker 1: four does affect this super dramatic result. Sure, I will
- 3:04Speaker 1: admit that, so in retrospect, after say, I don't know
- 3:08Speaker 1: the President of the United States gets shot in Dallas
- 3:10Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty three, or Jeffrey Epstein kills himself in
- 3:13Speaker 1: his jail cell, or whatever. It's easy for armchair internet
- 3:17Speaker 1: sluse modern day tinfoil hat wearers to piece together these
- 3:22Speaker 1: grand narratives to help explain what can be seen as
- 3:26Speaker 1: either a super complex storyline that is highly compelling in
- 3:29Speaker 1: the case of the JFK assassination, or a super obvious explanation,
- 3:33Speaker 1: as is the case with Jeffrey Epstein's death. The conspiracy
- 3:37Speaker 1: theory is just the way to explain the unexplainable. Does
- 3:40Speaker 1: that make sense? It makes sense to me anyways. The conspiracy,
- 3:44Speaker 1: the theory behind the conspiracy is not the motivating factor,
- 3:47Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. The CIA did not hold
- 3:50Speaker 1: meetings with the Mafia and Lyndon Baines Johnson to plot
- 3:52Speaker 1: out how to murder John F. Kennedy. Bill Clinton did
- 3:55Speaker 1: not Venmo Prince Andrew five grand to hire a convict
- 3:57Speaker 1: to make Jeffrey Epstein's murder look like a suicide. No,
- 4:01Speaker 1: what happened was JFK was a handsome, spoiled rich kid
- 4:04Speaker 1: who was used to getting whatever the hell he wanted
- 4:07Speaker 1: and making his way through the world on his rich
- 4:08Speaker 1: daddy's dime and his own considerable charm, and in an
- 4:11Speaker 1: extreme act of hubrist despite however well meeting it might
- 4:14Speaker 1: have been, he managed to betray and threaten the existence
- 4:17Speaker 1: of two of the most powerful institutions in the world
- 4:19Speaker 1: at the same time, the CIA and the Mafia. No
- 4:23Speaker 1: conspiracy was needed. The writing was plain as day, and
- 4:27Speaker 1: it was right there on the wall. El Prez had
- 4:30Speaker 1: to go. And in the case of Epstein, the reason
- 4:33Speaker 1: behind his death barely requires any further discussion, so I'm
- 4:36Speaker 1: not even gonna touch it, but to say just that
- 4:38Speaker 1: there was no conspiracy. It was just decided he had
- 4:41Speaker 1: to go. And if it wasn't put into motion by
- 4:43Speaker 1: one powerful player who Epstein had compromising info on, it
- 4:46Speaker 1: eventually would have been put into motion by another. Again,
- 4:49Speaker 1: Bill Hillary, jay Z, Danny DeVito, Cara Toop, whoever the
- 4:52Speaker 1: fuck else was on Epstein's list did not hold conspiratorial
- 4:56Speaker 1: meetings to determine how to kill the man. It was
- 4:58Speaker 1: just gonna happen. He knew too much about two many people.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Someone was eventually going to step up, and they did.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And no one empower is interested in the truth ever
- 5:05Speaker 1: coming out, so it won't. On the other hand, the
- 5:07Speaker 1: world is flat, cocaine is a wonder drug, the g
- 5:11Speaker 1: spot is real, Lebron James is the greatest basketball player
- 5:14Speaker 1: of all time. If you disagreed with any of these
- 5:16Speaker 1: things at one point or another throughout the course of
- 5:18Speaker 1: our shared history, then you were considered a conspiracy theorist.
- 5:21Speaker 1: So what the fuck do I know? Well? I do
- 5:25Speaker 1: know how Peter Tosh died. He was murdered by some
- 5:28Speaker 1: shit heel Xicon who added out for him for reasons
- 5:30Speaker 1: you'll have to listen to. In the recent episode of Disgraceland.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna take a quick break and I'll be back
- 5:34Speaker 1: on the other side to discuss some of the sources
- 5:37Speaker 1: that helped us tell this story of Peter Tosh's death.
- 6:02Speaker 1: All Right, we talked a little about the sources that
- 6:04Speaker 1: we used for the first Peter Tosh episode in the
- 6:05Speaker 1: last week's after Party. I'm not going to rehash those here,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but I did want to talk about some really interesting
- 6:09Speaker 1: stuff that we dug up that didn't exactly make it
- 6:11Speaker 1: into the episode. In a way it did, but not
- 6:14Speaker 1: really in a deep dive kind of way. One of
- 6:16Speaker 1: the other books that we used that I haven't mentioned
- 6:18Speaker 1: yet was This Is Reggae, The Story of Jamaican Music
- 6:21Speaker 1: by Lloyd Bradley, which came in really handy, not so
- 6:25Speaker 1: much about Peter Tosh himself, but about the world reggae
- 6:27Speaker 1: music and Jamaican culture and all that. There's a lot
- 6:29Speaker 1: of violence in these episodes, these two Peter Tosh episodes
- 6:32Speaker 1: that we did, because this is a lot of violence
- 6:34Speaker 1: going on in that world in general. It's like if
- 6:37Speaker 1: Martin Scorsese made a movie about the music industry. Okay,
- 6:40Speaker 1: political violence, class violence. The music scene in Jamaica at
- 6:43Speaker 1: the time was corrupt, but the music side of it
- 6:46Speaker 1: was healthy. There was huge sound systems which I touched
- 6:49Speaker 1: upon briefly in this episode. These trucks or wagons, whatever
- 6:52Speaker 1: you want to call them, outfitted with big, huge speakers
- 6:54Speaker 1: and amplifiers that made the music portable and home to present.
- 6:57Speaker 1: These systems traveled all over the island. These sounds. Was
- 7:00Speaker 1: it parked on a street corner. They were spinning the
- 7:02Speaker 1: best vinyl for people, the latest singles that were coming
- 7:05Speaker 1: out of Jamaica, the latest American and British releases as
- 7:07Speaker 1: well old favorites. It was fucking great. That sounds amazing
- 7:10Speaker 1: to me, just like in America of Britain, though nothing new.
- 7:13Speaker 1: As all this music is being played over and over
- 7:15Speaker 1: again all over the place. The one is making all
- 7:17Speaker 1: the money with the record companies and the studio owners.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Crime bosses went hand in hand during this time with
- 7:22Speaker 1: the studios, with the record companies, loan sharks making high
- 7:25Speaker 1: interest loans. It went unpaid. It led to some really
- 7:27Speaker 1: brutal consequences if you didn't pay up. And then there's
- 7:31Speaker 1: the music royalties which are supposed to be paid out
- 7:33Speaker 1: to the artists, but of course they're not, so that
- 7:35Speaker 1: in turn leads to the studios and the car is
- 7:37Speaker 1: getting tortured is paid back. A lot of violence, a
- 7:38Speaker 1: lot of drama. Very interesting. So if you want any
- 7:41Speaker 1: of that, go to This is Reggae The Story of
- 7:42Speaker 1: Jamaican Music by Lloyd Bradley. You're gonna get a lot
- 7:44Speaker 1: of it. And if you're a Jamaican musician back of
- 7:47Speaker 1: the day at Peter Tosh, someone like Peter Tosh, if
- 7:49Speaker 1: you're gonna rock the boat too much, you're gonna get
- 7:51Speaker 1: a target on your back. Peter Tosh, as you heard
- 7:54Speaker 1: in this episode, did a lot of rocking the boat,
- 7:58Speaker 1: including you know it's funny and the Bob Marley episode.
- 8:02Speaker 1: We talked about Bob Marley, strong army DJs, Peter Tosh
- 8:06Speaker 1: just trying to buy the fucking radio station. Okay, it
- 8:11Speaker 1: wasn't so much to get his music out as it
- 8:13Speaker 1: was his message. And you know, the theory, the conspiracy theory,
- 8:17Speaker 1: I hate that word phrase, I mean, was that there
- 8:21Speaker 1: was a target on his back because of it, and
- 8:23Speaker 1: it just we're forced to ask because of all this,
- 8:27Speaker 1: because it's out there, it's in the ether, it's very
- 8:29Speaker 1: much part of this story. We're forced to ask, why
- 8:31Speaker 1: was Peter Tosh murdered? He was shot and killed by
- 8:34Speaker 1: a criminal. Of course, we talked about this someone he
- 8:36Speaker 1: had pissed off. We talked about the reason why. But
- 8:39Speaker 1: that answer is not good enough for most people. Most
- 8:42Speaker 1: people think there is more. I did this little Peter
- 8:45Speaker 1: Tosh story on part of these episodes where Key takes
- 8:50Speaker 1: over Keith Richard's home and Keith comes to kick him out,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and I did this in like ninety seconds over on TikTok,
- 8:57Speaker 1: and this whole thing erupts, and the comments about how
- 9:02Speaker 1: Peter Tosh was murdered and who murdered him, why, and YadA,
- 9:05Speaker 1: YadA YadA. For some reason, with some people, these theories
- 9:08Speaker 1: just do not go away. So when we do these episodes,
- 9:11Speaker 1: we are forced to reckon with them, even if we
- 9:12Speaker 1: don't necessarily believe them, believe that it was a conspiracy.
- 9:15Speaker 1: That is to say, so we did. We got into it,
- 9:17Speaker 1: and I think we presented it in a compelling and
- 9:19Speaker 1: interesting way. But I want to know what you think. Okay,
- 9:22Speaker 1: this is not TikTok, this is not Instagram. I have
- 9:27Speaker 1: time to get into this a little more fully, to
- 9:28Speaker 1: get into your thoughts on this in a way that
- 9:32Speaker 1: is perhaps a little bit more comprehensive and a little
- 9:34Speaker 1: more compelling for us. I want to know what you
- 9:36Speaker 1: thought about Peter Tosh in his death. Was he murdered
- 9:39Speaker 1: for some other reason than just criminal revenge or wounded pride?
- 9:44Speaker 1: Was this something deeper than that? Do you believe that anyways?
- 9:47Speaker 1: I obviously don't. Do you think it was powerful forces
- 9:50Speaker 1: to be either from the US government or working with
- 9:53Speaker 1: Jamaican politicians or the Jamaican government, or with the CIA.
- 9:57Speaker 1: What is it? What's your theory? I want to know?
- 9:59Speaker 1: Hit me up six one seven nine oh six six
- 10:02Speaker 1: six three eight and while we're at it, And this
- 10:04Speaker 1: is not a conspiracy theory. I just believe it's the
- 10:06Speaker 1: truth hiding in plain sight. Let me know what you
- 10:09Speaker 1: think of the vengeance that was distributed to Bob Marley's assassins. Okay,
- 10:14Speaker 1: the seven assassins or would be assassins, I should say,
- 10:17Speaker 1: who tried to kill Bob Marley? As we discuss in
- 10:20Speaker 1: the Bob Marley episode of Disgrace Land, which is a
- 10:22Speaker 1: kin of course, and in conversation with the Peter Tosh episode,
- 10:25Speaker 1: we discuss how all seven of those assassins wind it
- 10:29Speaker 1: up dying violent, brutally violent deaths. One was fucking buried alive. Okay,
- 10:35Speaker 1: Before we get to those deaths, we talk about Bob
- 10:38Speaker 1: Marley and the violence that is part of his history.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I alluded to it earlier when I talked about Bob
- 10:42Speaker 1: Marley strong arming that DJ But of course there's another
- 10:45Speaker 1: story about Bob Marley finding out that his manager was
- 10:48Speaker 1: stealing from him, and to force a confession out of
- 10:50Speaker 1: his manager, he has two of his friends his bodyguards
- 10:53Speaker 1: hold his manager outside of a seventh story window upside down,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and then Bob himself, if you're to believe this story,
- 11:00Speaker 1: holds a gun to his head. So we paint this picture. Obviously,
- 11:03Speaker 1: that violence was definitely part of Bob Marley's backstory, So
- 11:06Speaker 1: when all of his assassins wind up dead, it's not
- 11:10Speaker 1: out of the realm of possibility that Bob had something
- 11:13Speaker 1: to do with it. Perhaps, what do you think I
- 11:15Speaker 1: want to know? Six one seven nine oh six six
- 11:19Speaker 1: six three eight. You can send me a text you
- 11:21Speaker 1: can send me a voicemail just like Johnny from the
- 11:23Speaker 1: six to one seven.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yo, what's up Jacobs? Johnny Vinyl from the six one
- 11:28Speaker 2: seven here in Boston my band to shelve our album,
- 11:32Speaker 2: I would demand five million dollars because I would take
- 11:36Speaker 2: a lot of that five million, right. I would buy
- 11:39Speaker 2: my way out of the contract, take the album to
- 11:41Speaker 2: a different label that believes in US and would release
- 11:44Speaker 2: the album, and we would pocket change.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Johnny Vinel appreciate the voicemail man, Johnny's calling in on
- 11:49Speaker 1: the question of how much money would you take or
- 11:51Speaker 1: would you take excuse me, a million dollars to shelve
- 11:54Speaker 1: a piece of work that you created, that you love,
- 11:57Speaker 1: that you wanted to put out into the world, but
- 11:59Speaker 1: the powers that be to that it wasn't good enough,
- 12:01Speaker 1: so they would offer you a million dollars not to
- 12:03Speaker 1: put it out. That is, of course, from the story
- 12:04Speaker 1: of Inexcess and their record kick Johnny calling in. Johnny
- 12:09Speaker 1: taking a different approach, and I like it being entrepreneurial here.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You know, give me the five million, and you know
- 12:16Speaker 1: I'll take what I can million plus two maybe three,
- 12:19Speaker 1: buy my way out of the contract, go to another
- 12:21Speaker 1: label that believes in me and release the record there
- 12:24Speaker 1: and if there's anything left over, you know, I'll put
- 12:26Speaker 1: it in my pocket, buy myself some new records, maybe
- 12:28Speaker 1: kick up a couple of shekels to some charity or something.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I don't know, put a little extra in the basket
- 12:34Speaker 1: on Sunday masks. Maybe Johnny who Knows eight one six
- 12:37Speaker 1: writes in hey found you on Instagram. Love watching Disgrace
- 12:41Speaker 1: Land on YouTube. My thing to binge, my new thing
- 12:44Speaker 1: to binge. I'm having trouble finding your Kurt Cobing and
- 12:45Speaker 1: suicide episode years ago. I watched Soaked in Bleach and
- 12:49Speaker 1: believe that both Cobing and Epstein didn't kill them. So
- 12:52Speaker 1: here we go. Wanted to know your opinion. Also, I
- 12:55Speaker 1: almost believed that the sixties, San Francisco and LSD would
- 12:58Speaker 1: keep you busy for the next here. Thank you again
- 13:00Speaker 1: for your content. Yeah, yeah, eight one six. Okay, let's
