- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: What's up everybody, welcome on in, soon as on a side softball show.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: And we have a ton to break down, right?
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: Chapman here alongside the Great Ryan.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: A-Bird, Mr. A-Bird have we recovered from a busy weekend in Norman America.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, making it, luckily, y'all held down the fort on football.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I just had to worry about softball and some women's gymnastics, but it was definitely a busy, eventful weekend in Norman and with the sooners.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can go all the way back.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: The last time we got together here on the softball show, we were previewing Bedlam, coming up a big Texas series victory for Oklahoma.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: And in OU land, you've had Bedlam on Wednesday night.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Bedlam on Tuesday night as well, but as far as like this stuff, we were covering in-person Oklahoma City or in Norman.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: Bedlam Wednesday night rolled into Heineke Day, which we both were at Bedlam.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: You were Heineke Day as well.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: then that rolled into a massive, massive top A, depending on where you're looking, series against Arkansas.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it was a week about finding out, I think, about what this team has inside of them.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Wednesday night, they go out.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like we had talked about that was a game that was much more meaningful for Oklahoma State than Oklahoma.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: We had previewed that
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: OSU was probably going to ride Ruby Mailin to either victory or run her into the ground before a bigger.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: So in a series it was certainly a victory for Oklahoma State and they're able to take two of three.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: So good for them, Oklahoma, we knew this was going to be the, and I get it.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: I understand when fans get frustrated, but it's the process over product at times that Patty Gassah has and in that process has led to championship upon championship upon championship, but it was about
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: How do you roll 7,000 pictures in there?
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: Do we see players that like Kirsten Deal?
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: Why do we still need to see her?
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: She's pitching Oklahoma City.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: She's pitched in Bedlam.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what you're learning there, but we knew that with Shane Yo, Alyssa Parker Berkeley's okay.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: We're all in the table.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I thought we'd see a city version.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't get that, but Oklahoma Falls and Bedlam responds in that Friday game.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: We can talk and saw them falls again.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then some days about a big response.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: What do you feel like we learned about this team, the leadership, and all that throughout the last seven days?
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think, first of all, like you said, it was more about process than any one game, especially when you look at Wednesday.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was clearly not that Patty Gassard didn't want to win and certainly wasn't very disappointed that they didn't, and you can break down some individual performances in there that led to it, but
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: especially with the way that the pitching was lined up.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: It was much more about getting some pitchers into that environment.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you learned some stuff about pitchers not named Kirsten Deal out there and just getting acclimated to playing Oklahoma City playing in these big-time games.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I think the way that they responded Sunday was was really big because there was obviously a lot of disappointments Saturday after that loss and Patty gaso talked about really challenging her team to approach it differently.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: to, hey, not just go through the motions and sort of sleepwalk out there, which show you can sleepwalk and still beat, you know, almost everybody in the country, but when you're talking about the SEC, when you're talking about Oklahoma State, you can't really sleepwalk and do that.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: I've let the approach was much better on Sunday.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: which you think would be good for the future, but I think also we've got to see the sustained growth and sustained offensive approach that they were able to take Sunday and make it a long-term thing and not just, hey, we proved ourselves and let's go back to doing the same thing that sort of bit us this week.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: Can we nitpick real quick, is that, is that permissible will everyone be on with us as a fantastic offense?
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: They're setting records all that stuff.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: Let's nitpick for two seconds.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody forgot.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen this at times, and again, you're battling a taking Kavan in Austin.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: She's an excellent pitcher.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: You still put up three runs in that first game and six runs in that second game.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like you got no production, but I think that the pendulum has swung wildly between home run, mass evading, and then just strike out, strike out, strike out, and if you're leaving people on base, I don't think that makes anyone feel any better.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: two years ago, if you remember when Oklahoma kind of hit that little bit of that rot where they lose the Texas series, they lost that.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it was a Thursday game to Ilana Agbiani's BYU.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: They lose the bedroom series, then everybody to at least rally on that Sunday game, and it that propelled them through the post season.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: But that was an issue of
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: 10 runners left on base 11 runners left on base and I don't think Petty Gas would quite knew it to say because she's like we know that that team was a clutch team.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: They showed it in the biggest moments.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how you do that.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right now it's like it's not the runners left on base.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like it's just either the inning is all or nothing.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Either you look up and the inning took 10 seconds and you're done or you come back and that's kind of like Petty Gas will talk about on Saturday against Arkansas.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: They lose three two and Petty Gas was not very
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: She basically said that she felt like they wasted the first three innings of that entire game and she's like you can't waste half a game and some of these big games and so I do think the challenge for Oklahoma and the good news is they're it's a legitimate challenge.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have Arkansas pineapple up on Tuesday.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: When it's playing it's best, it's swinging free, it's aggressive, it's attacking early, it's looking for the exact pitch that they want and crushing hammer and punishing mistakes.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: The only issue with that is when it's not working, that ends in like seven pitch innings,
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: three up, three down, things like that.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where I think Patty Gasso kind of identified.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: This is maybe an experience gap that you may want to go up there and say, I'm sitting on this and I want to hammer it first pitch.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: But if I'm
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: Cassie Pickering, and I see, maybe it's the bad example.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's Cassie's super experience.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: But if I'm Cassie Pickering, and I go up there, and I see the three batteries ahead of me get out on like six pitches or stuff like that, I need to shift what I want to do, and I need to maybe take this pitcher, a little bit deeper into the count and run that pitch count up so that maybe people behind me can feast things like that.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just,
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's an interesting given take and and it's one of those things that when it looks great it looks incredible when it looks bad you get four things for you like where's the offense guy it's kind of not a puzzle but I can see how that's a tough
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think you've, you've got a nitpick with things and there's a reason why Oklahoma's bar has been set so high.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's because they pay attention to the details and the details, especially on Saturday, but through really this four-game stretch where they drop three of them had been
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of really quick at bats and yes you can be aggressive and swing early in the count but you better be getting the pitch that you want to hit and you'll pick out one that you can really drive is not always going to need to hit no but more often than not it's going to give you good results I think the problem is
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: they've been, you know, getting overly aggressive, swinging it the first or second pitch and popping it up on the infield or, you know, just a little wheat ground ball, things like that, and patty gaso talked about that and needing one to be, have her hitters be a little bit more situationally aware and be able to say like you were saying, hey,
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: There's one pitch at bat.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe take a couple and give us a little bit of a chance to breathe before we send our pitcher back out there.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: But also give the pitcher opportunities to make mistakes, too.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whether that's inside the zone or outside the zone give you something to hit and and don't just to go up their flail and just to just to swing Which I think we've seen some of that.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's another reminder of how young this lineup is overall.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's easy to look at the numbers that they put up and they're just gargantuan, but
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: When you think about, you know, a lineup that includes a kind minor and kind of wells and lexinic dandel a lot of the times and, I mean, hence, Sidney Barker still fairly young as a, as a hitter and then, you know, you throw in some of the others there, it's
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's they need to have time to sort of learn some of those lessons that, you know, we've seen Ella Parker, for instance, learn.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen Cassidy Pickering and Gabby Garcia learn and not that all of Oklahoma's problems over the last few games have come.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: from the really young players, but on balance, you know, the older players can adjust a little bit quicker to that.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we saw them change some things up on Sunday.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: They were patient drew some walks.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what they drew three walks had one hit by pitch and three of those four runners from those wound up coming around a score and then they went 11 to one and it's, you know, always right with the world.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: So they've got to get back to doing that and doing it consistently and that's not to say that, you know, they're not going to keep swinging it at first pitches when they're there, but they've got to learn to, you know, if you're going to look for something early in the count, it better be your pitch.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: And that is why it's nitpicking, because you look back this five game sample.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: And we had talked about Sunday and Texas, but I think it takes on maybe a little bit different energy when you get the four games after that, but you look at that stretch, that Sunday game against Texas, Oklahoma scored six runs that's usually enough to win.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: Oklahoma State that Bethlehem game or use scores four runs typically enough to win and then you get to the the one that I just really had an issue with Offensively was that Saturday game and there were absolutely waste moments wasted moments in Bethlehem on Wednesday night wasted moments against Texas on Sunday But I thought that Saturday night game was the one that it really came to ahead and that's where I think you know You and I were both in that press conference and if you missed it just
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: Head to John to YouTube page, John Hoover Media, listen back, sorry about the audio.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: We asked multiple times for some audio dampening to clean that up for everybody, but work what we work with.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: But you look at it.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that was maybe where on Wednesday night in Bedlam, I don't think that Patty Gasso was happy with the way Oklahoma took the field.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: She mentioned that, Abby Dayton confirmed that.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: She said there was
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're going to come out here at seven park.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: We win.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's Bedlam.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: We win.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to go through the motions and we're going to win a big game and it's on to the weekend.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: And in a way, I think that can be a little bit forgiven when you look at just the emotional toll and we had kind of talked with us last Monday.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: The emotional toll of you're playing a rivalry series.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: Then you've got a rivalry midweek.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: Then you've got a massive game that
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: has even more juiced in a normal top eight series of love spilled because DJ GASO is there and that's always whether they talk about it or not going to mean a little bit more like at some point I think that there was going to be a let down spot for Oklahoma maybe that was Wednesday but sorry tonight that's where Patty GASO was like
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: We, it's the same lessons they need to be learned like it was basically like a, I'm done.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: Let's fire it up.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get this thing going.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see what it looks like on Sunday.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: And certainly I think she got whatever the message was from her JT Castle, Jim Rocha, the leadership, whoever was the messenger, it sounds like it was received from Saturday night into Sunday.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no doubt about it.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, heck, you just look at the sort of play by play from Saturday's game and you can see it.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: They were one of nine on it bats that were two pitches or less.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: One to have nine at bats of two pitches or less is pretty eye-popping in and of itself, but to go one of nine, the only hit that they had in that situation was Isabella Emberling's home run, but, you know, the first inning, what was it, kind of minor grounds out on her second pitch that she faced.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: Ella Parker grounds out on her second.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: And just a lot of really quick at bats.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, heck, I think it was a sub two-hour game was right at, yeah, 156 there.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: But then you look at the same thing on Sunday and you had Ella Parker,
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: work along it back to walk.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: Kendall Wells gets up there, has a, you know, as good of it at bat, as you can have that ends in a strikeout.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: She had, she, she found a couple away and really sort of fought through that.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: Immerling hits a home run on the first pitch because that's what Isabella Immerling does recently and then they come back Gabby Garcia works what was it one two three four five six seven seven pitch walk Alyssa Parker strikes out but has gets it needs nine pitches to do it so the approach was clearly different on Sunday and
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they clearly listened to whether it was Patty Gasseau, what she had to say, what some of the other players had to say after Saturdays because this wasn't most of time when we go talk to Patty Gasseau after a loss, it's, you know, hey, there's things we got to clean up and we're not really happy about it, but loss has happened.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's softball.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: You can't win them all.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, we always talk about, oh, you fans being, you know, a little bit, uh,
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: spoiled by those things, but you could tell that this one was different after Saturday and the way that Patigasa was talking how frustrated she was and how much she basically said, hey, this is a chance to be a turning point for this team and they better learn something from it.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: And the short-term benefits were what we saw on Sunday.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we'll see this week as they place a really good Georgia team.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if that's able to continue.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think everyone knows Patty is one of the most fierce competitors, one of the most competitive people I'd like ever met, but that always comes with, I think the thing that's always lost and maybe it's lost because so often they learn these lessons is she's not going to freak out over one loss as long as that loss, it's the old thing, right?
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a mistake if you learn from it.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think what she was so frustrated with on Saturday is
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of the things that she went through in the Bethlehem game, not necessarily the, I thought we were last lack of days of cool or La Tharjica, I think it's the way that she actually used.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: But talking about we're fighting from behind, we're down, 0212, and then we're wasting things, we're wasting that back.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think she thought that popped up again on Saturday, and that's where if you watched her enough, when you start to get in, it's the second or third time in a eight-day span that you've had the same things pop up, that is where she came out very firm.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: these women need to start learning from me.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: We know what the lessons are or that we've identified the issue.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Let's fix it.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: They certainly did on Sunday.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: This is what I'd like to put in a nice little reminder.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: On average, I had to do this story in the 2024 season when they won their fourth national title in a row.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: The average non-Okloma national champion in the last 20 years has 8.2 losses per season.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, Texas, coming out of the super sized SEC, won the national title with 12 losses.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that for the most part, everyone's got their head screwed on right.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: For the most part, it's one of the things I've like,
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, there are, we, I think we know the issues that are going to be the ones they have to solve in Oklahoma City.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: Can you get pitching debt super consistently behind on July?
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: Can you avoid these things?
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm not saying they're a nail-to-end.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to want to ask the championship.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I think anyone chicken little in this thing, I think it's where you look around and go.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: All right, it's all steady and it's a reminder that again, we talked about the start of the stretch.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to play a four straight conference series against top 16 teams, plus a top 20 ish, depending on where you look, Bedlam thrown in there.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was not going to be a 12-0 stretch for Oklahoma and certainly getting two of three, two of three, that's allowed Alabama to level in the SEC standings.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: I went through some preliminary tiebreaker stuff today.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: If Oklahoma and Alabama match over the final six games, I believe Oklahoma would take the tiebreaker for at least the ones they might just hand them both regular season titles, but there's no head to head.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: They have the exact same record against common opponents, but
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oklahoma has only played two of the bottom three teams in the SEC.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: Alabama is going to have played all three of the bottom three in the SEC.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the opponent, conference record, yada yada stuff would technically be a one-seed Oklahoma in Lexington way too much softball to still worry about that.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're just curious about it,
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: We've got that.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's dive into some of the individual performances.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about his villain, Emily.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about Kindle Wells here in a second.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: I actually want to start with another freshman though.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Someone who over these last five games, we've seen her get valuable experience in very different ways.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: Alyssa Parker got a little bit of that taste in Austin and then she got into that bedlam game Ryan.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: There was a little bit of a moment where you went, okay,
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Loads up the bases with no outs because that is the moment in a midweek in adding as a list for let's see what this freshman's made up only the one out.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: It was on a fielder choice, which I think if I recall correctly that was one that she wrote up to I want to I believe Yeah, only the one out or only the one Ron excuse me
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: out of that basis loaded no out situation she then gets to come in into a eight five the time game in the top of the seventh on Friday night against Arkansas to try and close that out if I've got my numbers correctly and then she gets the ball on Sunday and was phenomenal through the five innings Ryan you asked a little supporter about what this experience has mean for her both on Wednesday then you guys did you get to talk to her yesterday if I'm
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: So you guys got to talk.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: I was with those guys.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it was a, uh, a really, really, I think important week for the Separca, especially as Patty gas.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was now minted.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: She started the season with we have an Audrey Lowery.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: Then it's been, we have Lowery and we have Mileywood Chandel.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think she's put Sid Burzon in there and we'll talk about Burzon in a little bit.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: Seems like Patty gasso has like established that we have a group of four that we really, a power four in that pitching step that
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she did, and then she talked about Berkeley's decay and how close she thinks Berkeley's decay is to breaking into that.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: But let's start off with Alyssa Parker, and then we'll talk a little bit about the others.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: I thought,
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: a big week of growth for her like you mentioned going through bedlam and it wasn't perfect but I thought she was able to work out of you know some of those situations and really learn from it, grow from it through some big pitches.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, yesterday on Sunday, I thought the change up was working really well for her.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: She was able to keep Arkansas hitters off balance, pulled the string on that a couple of times in big situations and was able to come up with some big outs and it wasn't, you know, overwhelming, but that's not the picture that Alyssa Parker is.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: She generally, you know, let's balls get in play more often than not.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: And trust her defense behind her and you're not going to hit a lot of, uh, get a lot of really solid contact offer.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: And, and I thought that that was really big, uh, to to get those, uh, you know, situational, uh, that situational work in.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: In Bedlam, and then to come back with a big time started on Sunday through what was at 107 pitches, which was the most that she thrown all year, sort of thought that maybe they'd pull her after the fourth.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: After she, you know, one of those pull the string moments to get out of the jam and the fourth, strikes out a big time arc, it saw a hitter that had hurt them the day before.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then Patty Gesso, the center out there and the fifth with the run rule on the line and she was gave up one run but still got through that and I thought that was another big time ending for her just to learn how to manage these things she talked about.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: managing her emotions.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: She was asked about her relationship with Kind of Wells and also the way that she works through when, you know, close calls go against her.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: There was a couple of those on Sunday and I thought the way that she was able to bounce back from those moments.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: And it doesn't even matter whether their strikes or whether their balls, but the way that she was able to to navigate those things, I think, is something that's going to be really big for her moving forward.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, one, if you can use a list of Parker, that means you can, you know, not have,
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: you know you've got another bat in the order and you can do things like we saw what she did what Paddingessa did on Sunday which has had Sydney Barker playing third base but not in the batting order which is about the you know the perfect scenario for the sooner's right now so I think if Alyssa Parker continues to grow she's gone but it's somebody who's going to be really really valuable
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: for them to have in the postseason and then you know sort of teasing toward tomorrow's game against Arkansas Pine Bluff
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: Patty Gasso talked a lot about Berkeley's decay and how she saw her fitting into that pitching hierarchy there and said that they might try out some different things on Tuesday to try to see if they can one get Berkeley's decay in there as the fifth of that group.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: But to just try to figure out some other things so they can start lining things out for the postseason, especially with this being their last midweek game.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have access to some of the high level stats.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: I've been trying to acquire that all morning, actually, but it just visually Ryan feels like a list of Parker's change up.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: has gone to another level since Jim Roach returned and there are a thousand reasons why Jim Roach coming back for Oklahoma this year was going to be really important.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: A the way that she can just call a game and the way that she sets up not just seven innings but a whole series and all the experience that she has.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think that it like the work.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, like in practice, in bullpen sessions that isn't, we don't get to see it isn't valuable, but I thought that that was going to be huge for Berkeley's decay in a list of parkour to make sure that they get a full full full full full four years work with her.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have any like it's just anecdotal for me Ryan, but it just looks like she's hitting her spots and the way in which she's using it, the spots as she's using it look almost like a different thing and it's kind of like we've not seen a little Parker for a little bit.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was pretty good before that.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: But I think, you know, and this is probably as much about Jen Rocher returning as anything else, where they choose to use it, I think has improved and, you know, really be intentional about when when they give that call and they'll also the way she's able to place it in those situations.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think has gotten a lot better, you know, I said when Jen Rocher returned that I thought that
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Alyssa Parker would benefit as much as anybody else, just because she hadn't had that time to really dive in to the deep end on working with Jen Rocha during the season versus, you know, say in the fall, and then, you know, Sydney Burzon as well, which I think we've seen her steadily improve and sort of turn.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: into the picture that, you know, a lot of us expected her to be from, you know, when she arrived here from LSU, especially after seeing her last year against the Senators, which I talk about seemingly every time I bring her up her name, excuse me.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: But Jen Rocha has no doubt made an impact and a big impact, and that's not taking anything away from Carly Keene, which I feel like we have to
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yo, Jen Rocher is
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: the best or one of the two best pitching coaches in the country and getting her back has made a massive difference and I think it's, you know, the way that it's the reason that they've been able to even stay in some of these games where their offense hasn't been, you know, clicking on all cylinders and that's something that they're going to have to have as the postseason rolls around.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: You're not just going to be able to, you know, bash everybody over the
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: You're gonna have to win in some different ways and they've started to prove that they can do that a little bit.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like this is gonna become one of those things that when we talk about the spring game, where we'd be like, I know it's the spring game or when we talk about like,
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: at the flashing disclaimer, yeah, or like we talked about, hey, Oklahoma and Illinois state plans, I know it was just a Illinois state, but it's like Carly Keaney did a fantastic job, I think, but I think everyone can recognize the difference between decades of experience, the rings that Jin Rocha has forgotten about the multiple assistant coach of the year staff versus someone who was
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: a GA for one year and then was stepping up late into being a pitching coach for the part like one of those things.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I think to one of the unsung, I actually, who I felt worse for this week was Sidney Burzon because I thought she did a fantastic job on Saturday, patting out so to talk about this, that maybe with Chania was just having a little bit of control issues, what a luxury to be like, hey, you're
- 27:53[SPEAKER_00]: sophomore coming in transfer has a little control issues against one of the best types of the country.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: What does pull out all Sydney Burrsan and she comes through and it was basically a it was literally a two-pitch sequence.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: She plunked one batter.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: The next pitch was a two-run shot.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: That was it as far as the the treacherous waters for Sydney Burrsan and if she had gotten the run support that Oklahoma has been able to throw out there for.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: most of the season and all these games around in this five game thing, then suddenly Sidney Burzans, the conquering hero of settling things in, giving the offense, buying time, all that stuff.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm really, really excited to see what role Sidney Burzans is able to play the rest of the way, just because she's not quite built into that just she's going on Sunday type things, but they're using different spots to use her in and I'm really, really interested to see
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: Elsewhere rhyme, I want to go to into the lineup if you will allow me to.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: Can I just do a quick
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Friday night Lexi McDaniel steps in and a pinched opportunity doubles basically at the top of the wall or three fourths of the way up the wall.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: We want to be technical about that.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: She gets that opportunity on Saturday.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't come back through, but I just think that like, and we're going to talk about this building here in a second because her season that she's had has continued to be phenomenal.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: But the fact that Lexi McDaniel has stepped up in a way that
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: Patigasso continues to try to find spots to give her starts and to give her pinched opportunities, even if it's not specifically emirling for McDane or McDane for emirling stuff like that.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that can't go understated that you had a senior that has come back found something within her with that competition with Kindle Wells to have a career year.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: And yet Lexi McDane, it's not every single day but it's still,
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: been clutching up for Patty Gasson and Jay to get us to want to continue to put her.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's massive.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, we've talked about this since the first the year, but, you know, the things I said about Alyssa Parker in in large part also applied to, uh, likes to McDaniel in a little bit different way, just because,
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: She gives them one, another hitter that they can trust.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: Throwing out there in the order.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: She didn't give up much in the way of defense, even though a Sydney Barker is phenomenal at third base, as we've seen.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: But we're not going to be able to do that.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: less than what Daniel can you know it's shown that she can produce when she's in the starting lineup but as much as anything as shown that she can produce coming off the bench and in those pitch-in situations which you know I think sometimes get overlooked a little bit the ability to come off the bench cold go up there deliver a big time hit she's done it repeatedly throughout the course of the season really from the start
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a talent to be able to do that, to be able to stay locked in and, you know, I think adjust to pitchers during the game without having those at bats and, you know, talk to the other hitters who are hitting before you and try to, you know, work out and approach like that.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Lex and McDaniel,
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: for, you know, all we talk about all the other freshmen in there, they've been phenomenal.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: Lexington, they know, probably gets overlooked because of Kindle Wells, Kymeiner, Alyssa Parker.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: But...
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: She's a very, very valuable piece, and I think one that as we go into the post season, when those games tighten up and you get those late game at bats that are really, really critical, I think you could see Lexymic Daniel be used several times in the post season as a penchitter in situations where she's got to come up big, and I think to this point, she's proven that she's able to do that.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: should be a ton of fun to continue to see her development.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then one of the stories of the weekend and one of the stories of the year for Oklahoma has been Isabella Immerling.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: Her weekend was fantastic.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: That was what five, four, eight at the plate for her.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: Three home runs, one in each game, including a grand slam on Friday, which, oh, by the way, that grand slam is the ninth of her career, which is tied now for third all time.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: The first place is 11, so it would take a heck of a finish for Isabella and really to catch
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: Sarah Marrow is one of those and I looked it up on Friday and it is a skate my mind.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'll go back in and find that here while Abar speaks, but just the, again, it was another day.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: I asked her on Friday about what is it about the grand slam or the basis of the opportunities it's led to so many grand slams and she's like, in a weird way, I feel less pressure.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: With runners on, then with not because I know that if I can just dribble something through the right side or even if I roll into something if there's not two outs, then that's probably a run coming across now hand up.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: The season.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I've ever seen Isabelle and really shorten her swing.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: She feels like she goes home running out then.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: No kidding, but just her continued development.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I know that we talked about it a bunch, but it's one thing to the first like 25 games of the season grind to have this big jump and to be tracking to hit all these career marks and all that stuff.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's another thing to get to game 48.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: You're the other side of it.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: We're in the big SEC series.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: And she's had big moments in Austin.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: Three big moments against Arkansas.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: She's been clutch up and down this year.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: She's went to RBI's away from tying her career high.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: There's seven regular season games left and a whole post season to rattle through.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: It just, I don't think it could be set enough.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: I know we've said it, but she could have transferred.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone else could have transferred.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: Instead, Patty Gasseau has almost in a way replicated the 2021 Lindsey Elum and Kinsey Hansen.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, if you're not catching, you might be over at first type situation.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing, too, is I think she's been a huge defensive anchor at first, too.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: The number of times that she's had
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: throws that pull her off the bag and she's able to adjust her body, make the catch, swipe through and make the tag anyway and wipe away what could have been an error or something like that.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what else you could have asked for in that kind of response from Isabel and Emily going into her senior year.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's been phenomenal and you know, Petty Gas, so really talked about this after Sunday's game when she honoured for the, you know, a third
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, everybody saw in the fall how good Kindle Wells was going to be and, you know, we, we wrote about, we talked about everything, just the, the power, everything about the way that she's approached the games and it became clear that Kindle Wells was going to be their number one option at catcher.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: And Isabella Immerling, not only recognized that and chose to stay, but came to Patty Gasseau and said, hey, I get that this is happening.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like you've got to play kind of wells behind the plate.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: What can I do to get more at bats and to find a role on this team that's bigger than just being the backup catcher?
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: And she said, hey, gotta learn out of play another position
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: She said Isabella Immerling started running toward third base.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to go to the other corner.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to play first.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: And wouldn't sure what she would get from Isabella Immerling at first.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: But she's been fantastic in the field, which is given her a chance to be in the order.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: And when you're hitting the way that she is, and all the things that we talked about that were the aggressiveness of OU that makes them as good as they are when they're at their peak offensively.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we see out of Isabella Emmerling.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: She jumped on a couple of first pitches this weekend and really made Arkansas pay for that.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: But it's not the boomer bust that we have seen from her throughout her career, but especially last year,
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: She had a, you know, a blue RBI single in yesterday's game that was really big as well helped them, you know, really start stretching that lead out.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: And we're just saying a much more mature approach from her.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: at the plate, yes, but also just, you know, softball and life in general, and I think that's something that Patty Gasso, as much pride as she takes in developing players, she takes much more pride in developing people, and Isabella Emreling has developed as much as anybody in this program over the last year.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's been really fun to watch, and
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: And by, oh, sorry, I was going to add, by the way, DJ Sanders, Louisiana and Oregon is the other Grant Slam career record holder.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you have that up.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: Do you see a familiar name that is well, it really is currently tied with who may be played in a couple of different spots.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see, we had the Christy Orgeron,
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that, excuse me, Reagan Walsh has eight.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: Christy Orzeron and Francesca Nia, nine each.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if Coach O's looking at Izmir, I might be looking at the thing.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's all, you never, yes, but you wouldn't be able to understand him.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, go talk to us.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's been really, really fun.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_00]: Just kind of watch that dynamic in, I mean, Kind of Wells.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: number 33 on Saturday that one seemed like a when you compare it to what she did on Sunday that one seemed like it barely stuck over and it went far on Saturday you know you've got a hold of it when the left fielders first step is back toward the plate when they're playing deep anyway that when it comes off the bat and the outfields just like
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's just get positioned for the next AB.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's when you know for Kindle Wells.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: That was Homer number 34, which has her level with Jocelyn Allows pair of 34 home run seasons.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: She's now the next one she hits will be Oklahoma's program record.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_00]: She's two away from Titan Carly Spade Miamiville, Ohio from 2024 as second all-time.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that 37th Bob, it's coming.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: It might come tomorrow, who is to say, really, honestly, my only question is, does Kinda Wells get the day off, or does she play?
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: If she plays, I think that on top of all the stuff that Patty has said, if you're going to want to be there for the pitching, I think that you might be there to celebrate Oklahoma's single season homerun record if she gets even to it back to get the pipeline.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd sort of be surprised if she didn't play.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, now could she be like, could they use her at DP or something like that sure, but at the same time, I think.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: with the pitching comes with the need to pair them with the catcher that they're probably going to have behind the plate in these clutch situations.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I think Kindle Wells has proven that she's been able to hold up over the course of the season to this point.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to surprise me if she's not behind the plate, not that she, you know, might not be behind the plate for the entire game, but yeah, Arkansas Pine Bluff is a team is probably not going to challenge you imagine it's going to be a five inning game and that's going to, you know, give Kindle Wells at least a handful of chances at that it's sort of going to surprise me if it doesn't happen tomorrow, honestly, well,
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see, put an asker as next to that and talk about the weather conditions.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what where the winds blow in because that always makes a massive difference, although kind of wells is certainly proven that she can overcome that quite a bit as well, but it's just unbelievable.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: the job that she continues to do and just the sheer power, but also the fact that she's able to go through a weekend where she's only going to get a couple of pitches to hit.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: And yet she's still able to punish those mistakes and you know, hit them 260 plus feet in it's just unreal and it's gotten to be so sort of not boring but expected that didn't even get a Kindle Wells question yesterday until the very end when I was just like, hey, we got to ask about Kindle not exactly sure what to ask, but hey, she's good right.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of well, it's hot.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's a, we had kind of joking with this, like behind the scenes that this is peeling it back.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: We get to like the fifth or sixth inning and usually his name is Brock.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's a sports iteration director.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't fantastic job.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of walks around the press box and just like, hey, we usually get coached to players.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have any preferences on player requests and stuff like that?
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: And there have been a couple of times this year, like when she sets the SEC record that we all look around and go,
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: Twenty-seven's great.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: She's a handful away from the freshman record.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: She's another handful away after that from Jocelyn's record We're gonna be talking to kind of wells about records a lot.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: It don't you know that you're good when when you hit conference mark So we're just like, yeah, we'd rather talk to the pitcher.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: So you know what I mean?
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: It becomes a Really really weird spot, but that is the greatness of kind of wells as she puts people in weird spots as a true fresh rid Which is just spectacular
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you know, what you said happen is exactly what happened yesterday in the press box Brock sitting right next to him and he brought it up.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_01]: I said, you know, hey, you know, he said he was going to bring Gabby Garcia, which is fantastic.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, who else?
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: throughout a couple of names and Alyssa Parker was one of them I said, you know, sort of love to talk to Kindle always, but the fact is we're going to be wanting to talk to her probably on Tuesday night when she breaks the record.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: So let's table that one for right now.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: get a chance to talk to Alyssa Parker and then Kindle also had some TV interview obligations yesterday.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're like, yeah, we can get the audio from there and be okay.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: But also, it's you know, great to ask her teammates about Kindle Wells and the the job that she's done, Patigasso gave a really good answer.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yesterday talking about it and it's just, you know,
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: become so much of a given that she's going to break some of these records and there's no doubt that she's going to be the, you know, single season home run queen by the time this is all said and done.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: But a big part of that is the way that she's approached it and one of the things that they did this weekend was have a big throne.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: As you entered love's field that had crowns and
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: We saw Lauren Chamberlain be out there.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Jocelyn was there this weekend.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: She's a little bit busy taking care of a newborn.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: But Patty Gassas said, hey, Kindle Wells isn't the kind of person who's going to, at least during her career, go sit on that throne quite yet.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: She's just going to put her head down, get to work.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: She's done that, and so far the results have been phenomenal.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of so energetic in a chatterbox anyway, I don't know if she's sitting on anything thrown bitch like just sitting for two seconds to put her shin pad like I don't think that that's really happening because she is all over the place I've had the pleasure of While you've been covering the games in the press box I've been in the photo while it's getting to shoot which I always like because you just kind of get a different vibe of
- 44:24[SPEAKER_00]: What are the interactions like at first?
- 44:25[SPEAKER_00]: What is patty gas so shadding down from the third base box at bedlim or stuff like that?
- 44:31[SPEAKER_00]: And you just see that Kindle Wells is all over the place.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: Active, active member of that Oklahoma dug out.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_00]: It was even other outstanding or performance of the weekend that we need to cover here because so much happened.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: It felt like we were spinning all over the place all weekend long.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the only other thing that really jumps out to me is Ella Parker's game on Sunday.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: She had really been scuffling at the plate, and hadn't had much success and was looking sort of out of sorts, but yesterday, I thought she was able to really bounce back in a big way, just got the one hit, which was a double right down the line,
- 45:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, played big because she was able to come in and score a little bit later, but score three runs took a hit by a pitch, worked a walk in a really crucial at bat early in the game, and I thought
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: you know we'll see but it feels like maybe this is one of those like unlock the door type of moments for her where she's able to get back on one of her really good runs we'll see if it leads to that but I I really like her approach on Sunday you know as much as anybody in the lineup
- 45:56[SPEAKER_00]: blanket statement, Abbey Dayton, fun, good at softball, really enjoy this final season from Abbey Dayton.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take a little bit, looking ahead here, Ryan.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: Georgia coming in this weekend, kind of, if you want to do some advanced scouting, I know that we're recording some Monday, so small wind of opportunity, if you happen to be watching Monday, all that stuff.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: But Monday night, the Monday night, the Saturday Sunday Monday series, this week, Texas and Georgia, headed to a rubber batch.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: Game three rubber game.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: Was it Georgia took the first one or lost the first one then took game two might have that mixed up either way it'll be a good chance to look at the bulldogs that are coming in which the thing that stands out to me about them is they don't have one singular like
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: 20 plus, but they don't have like a Katie store or a reset would, but you look at Kirsten Roos has got 12.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_00]: Sarah Gordon's got nine.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: Tyler Ellison's got a couple with seven in Jaden Godwin and Gabby Novakos.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of like,
- 46:57[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have the juice numbers on the high end of what an Oklahoma lineup does, but they've got speed and power from one through nine, which that's if you have a You know control issue like Patty Gassel labeled by Lochandio with on Saturday, which said she's not super worried about that these things happen that kind of thing like this is the kind of lineup.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: Once like a lot of these, it's going to really test you one through nine and make sure that you're either playing great defense, not issuing walks, not hitting batters, things like that because if you do, there are multiple options to punish you at different spots in the order.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, there was it fourth in the SEC right now offensively hitting 357 and like you said it's not, you know, one or two hitters that just really jump off the page at you, it's one through nine and it's, you know,
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: not as as much pop as what Oklahoma has although really nobody does but you know 60 home runs they've got a little bit of it but the the biggest thing for them is that they're aggressive offensively generally
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: not going to draw a lot of walks.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think there are walk numbers or there's just a couple of teams in the SEC who have drawn fewer walks than Georgia to this point.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: But if you miss in the zone, they're going to be able to punish you.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is going to be another big time test for Oklahoma's pitching staff.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: And they're offense.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: They're pitching on the Georgia side isn't among the elite in this conference, but it's still pretty dang good at 316 ERA.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: So the OU hitters are going to have to be disciplined and going to have to continue some of the really good things that we saw from them on Sunday.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: They don't issue a ton of walks on the other side as well, so they're going to have to be some patients, but also attacking when warranted.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: Just excited to see that I think this is what Patty Gastos probably going to be looking for, which is just I think she wants to see this if you're just listening out of it's steady all week in line, I don't think she wants the hot the highest highs of the eight runs like on Friday and then you were grass back to two runs off of it was it two solo shots, everyone in wells and then back to the level it's like okay could we just get six runs all game or you know across all three or something like that so.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: It should be really exciting, the race and the SEC continues to heat up and as always, Oklahoma Studios on SI.com is the place to be able to be in the house on Tuesday.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be trading off duties all throughout the week in Friday's Saturday.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_00]: Sunday, and it should be very, very good as we get to crunch time here.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's crazy, Ryan, that feels like we wait all off season, wait all off season, it gets here.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: We're in it.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to look up and you're like, how the heck are there only
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: Seven regular season games remaining before everyone ships out to Lexington and Sponkers.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it goes by fast, but it goes by fast when it's interesting, fun, whatever you want to call it, and this season certainly has been for a lot of reasons, but there's still a lot of saltball remaining to be played even if the regular season is, you know, just about done, but it seems like the older I get the quicker those seasons, you know, roll through every year and this is, you know, no different than that.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_00]: Before we dip out, there was some other SEC softball news around SEC announced it was reported locally in Madison, Alabama and in Huntsville, Alabama that the SEC softball tournament after this season is going to be done touring the SEC.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: for at least four years, they're headed out to Toyota field, which is where the trash pandas play, one of the absolute just peak pinnacle moments of minor league baseball.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was very interesting.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: I saw a ton of back and forth and two in fro.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_00]: I 100% understand the reaction from a lot of the former players.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, why are we having to play at a baseball stadium, things like that?
- 51:11[SPEAKER_00]: If the trash pandas and the ground screen everybody are going to commit to this and really turn this thing over.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think it could be a pretty cool setup.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't really don't know if the S.C. tournaments ever going to come to Oklahoma City.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_00]: The big 12 thought pretty hard to ink Hall of Fame stadium, Devon Park, all that stuff for a little bit longer.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I think in some ways trying like lock the S.C. out of the market in ways and things like that.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: But.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: I like the touring model personally, but if you're saying that my biggest thing is, if you can guarantee that the surface, the playing surface is going to be as steady as any of the actual softball fields because we know this when you're having to grass over and shorten the in field and change up the dimensions that
- 52:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a guarantee that the surface is it might look okay, but there might be bumps and bobbles and all that stuff.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: If you can tell me the playing surface is going to be top notch and you can get a bunch of fans in there.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's going to be great, but that's just something that I'm not there in the Huntsville and Madison all the time.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know if I could guarantee that either way.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll see how it turns out.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think to me, that's the biggest thing.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: I know that there are a lot of softball fans who bristle about to be played at a baseball stadium, and I get that.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's some validity to that, especially with the questions over the field conditions.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_01]: But also, let's remember that when
- 52:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the college world series comes around, they're, they're playing on drawn-in fences, temporary fences that are set up for the world series, temporary bleachers that are set up for the world series.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not that much different as long as
- 53:00[SPEAKER_01]: The dirt place true as long as the grass doesn't, you know, create mainly injury problems is what we're talking about with the conversion of, you know, grass surfaces and the addition of grass surfaces.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be fascinating to see exactly how they do it.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: But I think if they're able to do it well, this could be a really good thing for the SEC.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_01]: Do I like the touring model?
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but I think it's also nice to have, you know, what we saw from Oklahoma City for a long time in big, 12 baseball and big eight baseball back in the day.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: what we saw with softball, what we've seen it saw up all with the big 12 softball tournament.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's nice to have that central location.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_01]: The problem with softball is there's only a very few facilities that can support that.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that if they're able to pull this one off and make it work well, I think it can be an event that's bigger,
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: than what we've seen from the, you know, the traveling model of the tournament because unless you're going to, well, really unless you're going to owe your Alabama, maybe Arkansas in the SEC, you're going to more, more smaller venues, not that George the last year wasn't great, but, you know, there's not a whole lot of visiting fans coming there, and I think you could start seeing more people make this a destination to go to with the, the neutral site.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_00]: And took it me wrong.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_00]: We both love it more.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: It would be the best thing in the world.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_00]: If it was an Oklahoma City, we've benefited for many, many years from the big 12 tournament, just be like, yeah, it's just hopped through, 132A, easy, simple.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: And my bum did not see like the whole SEC tournament at it loves field.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_00]: at some point a hundred percent because I was going to be asking for those days off and just going and hanging out in the press box all day long.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_00]: I get it.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was scheduled for what was it 29 was scheduled for last year.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_00]: It got it got added pretty quickly.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was able to the SEC women's tennis tournament was that the heading to Family tennis center and was able to double dip and really enjoyed that.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think the touring model works, but I think that from the SEC side of things, I think they're probably
- 55:21[SPEAKER_00]: is an event.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_00]: People know it.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: They know when the dates are, they go to the same place.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_00]: Much like when everybody goes up to Omaha or when for us, everyone here for the Women's College World Series, Oklahoma, Oklahoma state to become fixtures, Texas has become fixtures, but it's like for the longest time Alabama fans, UCLA fans that made the track date went to the same places, things like that.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_00]: Again, if there was a softball stadium that held 10,000 that was
- 55:50[SPEAKER_00]: T-Op, I get it, and I, I, I, I absolutely understand that, but I, I think, I, can we just see how this goes before we like burn it down.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_00]: Can we see how this is that is that an option?
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I, I think, good luck getting that out of a lot of SEC fans, but I think that's the right approach to have.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's take a breath.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_01]: Let's, you know, see how it goes and then if it doesn't go well.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: rip it to shreds, but if it goes well, then I think it can be a bone to, you know, yes, it's a bummer not to have the tournament here, or say in Fayetteville, or, you know, easily accessible places, but I think it can be a really cool deal for the health of the sport, especially in the, the southeast and part of the country, to have that be a destination.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_00]: And we're certainly making trips, Oklahoma City in June.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that anyone's too overly concerned about that.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the good news.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: One of my best friends in the whole world, Listen to Huntsville.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, Keaton, get your couch ready.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: Because I'll be coming for straight years.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: Just book it.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: Don't give the couch away to anybody else.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: All right, that'll do it for us today.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be back on the full sooner or so on a side pod on Wednesday, break it down.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_00]: Everything spring game, further thoughts there.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: The sooner men and women have both been adding in the transfer portal, Porter Moser and Jeannie Baronshek
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: If anything, massive mega note where the happens tomorrow night, Tuesday night is pine blood, we'll have that baseball sweeps Missouri there at the big log gym at ten and eight in the SEC with like 7,000 other teams.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: So that's good.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_00]: All of that and more will be coming to your feed on Wednesday.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_00]: We appreciate everything you do found along and thank you.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_00]: It beer.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: If you like the show the best thing you do is tell a friend who really appreciate that if you hate the show That's cool to not gonna please everybody, but that'll do it for us today.
