- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. It is so good to be back at the mic. Lucas: Today we are going into the kitchen again. Last time we talked about some basics. Luna: Right. But this time we are focusing on the specific tools we hold in our hands. Lucas: Exactly. We have five key words today. Let us start with one that sounds simple. Luna: Oh, I know this one. It is paper, right? Lucas: Yes. In Swahili, paper is karatasi. Luna: Karatasi. Lucas: Try it again. Karatasi. Luna: Karatasi. Okay, that feels easy. Lucas: It is. Now, let us look at a spoon. The word for spoon is sifa. Luna: Sifa. Lucas: Listen closely. Sifa. Luna: Sifa. Like the fabric we saw last time? Lucas: Very similar. But remember, sifa is the spoon. Karatasi is paper. Sifa is spoon. Luna: Got it. Paper and spoon. Karatasi. Sifa. Lucas: Perfect. Now, what do we use to chop vegetables? Luna: A knife? Or maybe a cleaver? Lucas: In Swahili, a knife or a small blade is kisu. Luna: Kisu. Lucas: Say it with me. Kisu. Luna: Kisu. That is sharp. Lucas: Be careful with it. And finally, what do we put the food on? Luna: A plate? Lucas: Yes. A plate is sahani. Luna: Sahani. Lucas: Sahani. Good. And the large chopping tool? Luna: Is that fuku? Lucas: Yes. Fuku. A heavy chopper or cleaver. Fuku. Luna: Fuku. Okay, let me try to put them together. Lucas: Go ahead. Luna: Karatasi, sifa, fuku, kisu, sahani. Lucas: That was excellent. You remembered all five. Luna: I feel like I can cook now. Well, at least set the table. Lucas: You can definitely set the table. Say sahani again. Luna: Sahani. Lucas: And kisu. Luna: Kisu. Lucas: Let us practice a little scene. Imagine you are making lunch. Luna: Okay. I need the karatasi first. Lucas: Why? Luna: To wrap the leftovers later. Then I take the kisu. Lucas: Good. To cut the ingredients. Luna: Yes. And then I use the sifa to eat. Lucas: Or the fuku if you are chopping hard vegetables. Luna: Right. Finally, I put it all on the sahani. Lucas: Perfect sequence. Karatasi, kisu, sifa, fuku, sahani. Luna: It flows nicely. Lucas: It does. Let us say them one more time slowly. Luna: Karatasi. Lucas: Sifa. Luna: Fuku. Lucas: Kisu. Luna: Sahani. Lucas: Excellent work. Before we go, I want to mention something important. Luna: What is that? Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, your support matters. Luna: It really does keep the episodes coming. Lucas: A couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo — that's F. E. X. I. N. G. O. Luna: Yeah. It helps us keep making these for free. Lucas: Thank you for listening. Let us get back to the kitchen. Luna: Right. So, where did I put the fuku? Lucas: Next to the kisu. On the counter. Luna: Ah, there it is. The fuku. Lucas: Careful. Do not drop the kisu. Luna: I won't. I will just grab the sifa instead. Lucas: That is safe. A spoon is always useful. Luna: True. Especially with the sahani ready. Lucas: We are getting good at this. Luna: I think so too. Karatasi, sifa, fuku, kisu, sahani. Lucas: Repeat that one last time for practice. Luna: Karatasi, sifa, fuku, kisu, sahani. Lucas: Perfect. See you next time.
