- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Man, the Jesus is not a way.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: He's not part of the way.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: He is the only way.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: And if you put on your good deeds or you put on your works, you put on self-righteousness, you put on religion, you know, this is not God threatening us.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: This is God saying, hey, I'm offering you a free way in that came at the cost of my son Jesus.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: He purchased the outfit, he made available the clothes.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: All you have to do is put them on.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: And if not, the option is if you can't get in the presence of God, you're going to be removed from the presence of God.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Hey, welcome back to the XMile Podcast again.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: My name is Steve Husky, lead pastor of Faith Church.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: One more week in a row.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: This is Quad.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Quattro.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Final week of God's box off.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Let's keep it rolling.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: So Pastor Ty Beckman is back around the table.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We had a great conversation this past Sunday.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It was probably one of my favorites, and here's why it's important as a communicator, as a preacher, and every everybody who teaches the Bible should strive for this is to contextualize the scripture, is to take what is ancient, to take what is holy, to take what is constant, to take what is eternal, and to make it matter in the moment to people that are alive now in this nation.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And so that's what it means to contextualize.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And so I think we should always be working towards making the gospel practical.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: But man, God did the heavy lifting in this conversation.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: We talked about not really the movie The Devil Works Prada, but kind of the fashion industry.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And the comment I made out of the gate was that when you look at scripture, um, throughout scripture, salvation is a clothing conversation because over 40 times throughout the scriptures, you find these references that, you know, God's conversation for salvation, God's conversation for spiritual transformation and growth, God uses clothing conversations.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: He wraps us in robes of righteousness.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: So to me, man, it was a fun conversation, very easy to contextualize and make matter.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So I love, man.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I love the way we ended the series and uh ended strong.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: So what what you got any thoughts on maybe this week or just an overview of the whole series?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, uh, God of the Box Office every single year is it's kind of interesting to see like the ebb and flow of people coming in, you know, the interest in the movies, the characters in the lobbies, the builds, and I think people are intrigued by it.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Uh but this year it was so interesting to see the up upswing.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: You know, sometimes it it kind of falls off towards the end, like, oh, we get it.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: But uh man, I think people being so intrigued by the the conversations getting to see VIPs and people return to the house.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh, it was really cool.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: But I think everybody, whether or not you'd like to admit it or not, everybody likes to express themselves with fashion to some degree.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: And uh, Pastor, you always, you know, you throw a fit on.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Um, I would say that our our church, we we try to keep it trendy, you know, everybody's you know, wearing what they want to.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Again, not everybody's in the pleated pants and the button-down shirts.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, we got a wide variety of people that like to express themselves.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: So I think this conversation was so interesting because there is one type of fashion that will only work um to lead to eternal life.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: And you're talking about putting on Christ.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: So, man, it's just a great conversation.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: You know, I love uh I just gotta say this real quick.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Frankie Guerra.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Come on, man.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Shout out to Frankie if he's watching the biceps and the thyceps were out.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: He was uh he was working it as Odysseus, so he was dressed as Odysseus, you know, the the main character.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Was he modest?
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: We we don't care.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Uh he's looking good.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: You know, here's the thing is it was funny, is uh we had him a sword and a shield because you know he is this warrior Odysseus, and uh he took lots of pictures holding the sword, but there's some pictures I've seen of him, and he said, Act like I'm cutting off your head.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I you know, I'm I think the realism is uh you know gone to the next level.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: But he had a lot of fun, man.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Frankie, for doing it.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Again, just as a church, making the uh making the gospel practical.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: And some people have a problem with us doing this, but it really never entered the worship center.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: It didn't impact our worship, it didn't impact the message.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: It was just used as a talking point, man, to really leverage spiritual principles.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And again, so the conversation this past week was this idea that, man, from Genesis all the way through Revelation, um, God has conversations about us being dressed.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And I said, you know, the the first one we find is the first fashion faux pas, which means clothing mistake.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: You know, it's um there's a standard of how you should wear something and you know what you should wear.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: I know uh I was responsible when our girls were young.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Uh Shauna had to be at work early, so it was my job to get them up and get them dressed.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And let me just say, I just don't have the uh I don't have quite the touch my wife has for dressing keys.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: But Shauna, she can put it together.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: She can.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: But I'll never forget I sent uh I think it was Kayla, maybe Lauren, but one of them, or maybe it could have been both of them.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: I put their outfit on backwards, and it looked great to me, but it was on backwards.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: That is a fashion football.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Pretty bad.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: So we find this though in the in the book of Genesis, right?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: We know that Adam and Eve are naked, and um God tells them he can eat of any tree in the garden except this tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And Eve is deceived by Satan, and when she eats of this, and then we know Adam does the same thing.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: The Bible says their eyes are open and they realize, man, they're they're naked and they're ashamed, they try to hide themselves, and they try to do what?
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Try to hide, try to hide because they they want cover.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And so they cover themselves in leaves and then the forest.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: But we find that really the first hint of the gospel is the Bible tells us in Genesis that God steps in and takes the skin of animals and properly clothes or covers.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Again, it's not really about this this physical outfit, it was about covering their shame.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Come on, man.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: They they were now in sin, and sin brought shame, and they needed a covering for their shame.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: So to me, the first picture of clothing in scripture, Genesis chapter three, is you know, you can't dress yourself.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: You can you can cause sin, you can create sin, but you can't cover sin.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Only God can do that.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: And man, you see the goodness of God while he brings judgment because of the sin.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Man, we see the goodness of God immediately.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: He covers Adam and Eve, and uh that's the goodness of God, man.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: We get to celebrate out of the gate.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think um, you know, it's it's not a parallel story by any means, but you know, one of the stories that's very famous in scripture people know about is the story of Lazarus.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, uh the story is is one of those that's you know, heightened emotion.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: We can kind of insert ourselves in that story.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Maybe we feel like Mary, maybe we feel like Martha.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're all Lazarus, we're all, you know, that's right, headed towards death.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: And, you know, you see that moment that he's actually laid to death.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, Jesus comes up, he says, Hey, let's let's move the stone out of the way.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: And he calls Lazarus out.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: But what does he say to all the people around?
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: He's like, hey, man, take those grave clothes off.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: And it's almost like, you know, God in the very beginning, he's like, Hey, that right there is not gonna do that type of covering, the the grass and the leaves, that's not gonna do.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna cover you with something that that is a picture of life.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: That's why Jesus said, you know, I'm I'm the resurrection and the life.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: And uh some of us we're walking around here again in church, or maybe we're around and we we we love um you know, attending, but you know, some of us still got some grave clothes on.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: And I think we need to take some of those things off.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: And again, like you've been urging us, you know, it's a gospel center uh conversation, it's about salvation, it's putting on Christ.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: He's the one that can only offer life and life to the full.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, it's putting on, and you said it there our journey is consecration, um, you know, and that's that's dealing with man issues in our heart.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: And so, man, we want to put on the right stuff and take off the wrong stuff.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, I said, man, that that uh that consecration is a clothing clean out, closet cleanup, you know, that you got to look at your life and say, what doesn't fit my life?
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: And man, I think there's a lot of believers that they start coming to church, they hear the gospel, they respond, they give their life to Christ, and they start putting on, they start maybe getting involved in serving and giving, and but they don't take enough stuff off.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: And it's it's the stuff that you need to take off that can hinder your spiritual journey as much as the stuff that you put on moves you forward.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: And so, man, I just would encourage people watching this, you know, what is it maybe in your life that you're still living in, tolerating, practicing, participating in that that really you know doesn't honor the Lord?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: And uh man, the way the apostle Paul would say it, he says it this way in Romans 13, 12, he says, uh, so remove the dark deeds like dirty clothes.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Whoo! I don't know, you know, that's a that's a brand name right there, the dark deeds, uh dirty clothes.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, I can be honest, man, there's there's times in my life that uh that I tolerated um dark clothes and dirty deeds way too long.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: And uh man, the challenge of the Apostle Paul and the scriptures are, man, take those things off, man, get them out of your life.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: And that's synonymous with re with uh repentance.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think our our closets get jam-packed, you know, and what maybe worked in a previous season, you know, we it starts, you know, getting stockpiled in our closets and things that used to fit, you know, don't fit.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: I know you've you've covered this before about you know just removing some of the things that no longer should be a part of your wardrobe, should be a part of your closet, uh, things you're you're kind of tolerating.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: And I think uh all of us could I could identify, even as Christfallers, there are things that we just need to get out of the closet.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: You know, there's a documentary I watched, you know, years ago, and I'm not like inundated with all the information about it, but it's about minimalism.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: It's like if you look in your closets, man, we are people that just pile it in, we got sentiment to it or whatever it might be, but they say that our brains are affected.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Whenever we look into a closet, everything's jam-packed together.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: That's why whenever you go into high-end places to shop, I mean, there's just one or two things on the rack and it it draws us in.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: It's it's so clear.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Like, here's the option.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: But whenever there's uh a plethora of different options, or there's a plethora of different traits, there's a plethora of different things we're attached to in life.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: It's important to offload those things that no longer should be fitting into your wardrobe.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: You know, the challenges, man, to hear the voice of the Lord and figure out what those are.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: I want to back up, man, and you know, rehit this conversation.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Jesus tells a parable in Matthew 22, and just real quick fly by.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: There's a there's a king that's throwing a party for his son, the prince, who's about to get married.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: And it's something that happened in those days that when your son got married, it was the job of the father of the groom to throw a seven-day party.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: And it's a picture of us celebrating our bridegroom in heaven, the marriage supper of the lamb.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: But the premise of the story is again putting on Christ that you can't get into God's presence, you can't get into heaven, you can't get into the right side of eternity, covering yourself in man-made leaves.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: You have to be covered in the blood, covered in the in the innocent animal, the Passover lamb, Jesus Christ.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: So, but there's a there's a statement that he says here again.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: So the king's walking through looking at all the guests, and this guy stands out and he's got on his own outfit.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: And the king calls him out and says, Hey, like, how did you get in here?
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: You should you should have been given clothes coming through the door.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no doubt.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: And that is who Jesus is.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: He gives us his son Christ.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: We need to put on Christ.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: But here's what I want to point out in in Matthew 22, when he finds this guy not wearing the proper clothes.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: So again, there are there are proper clothes.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: We've got a, you know, acceptance is dependent on apparel.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: You've got to have on the right fit, and that's Jesus.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: But he says this, he says, Um, hey, how did you get in here without without the wedding clothes, without Christ?
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: And it says the man had no reply.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Then the king said to his aides, bind his hands and his feet and throw them into outer darkness where there's weeping and gnashing of teeth.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And, you know, when you become familiar with that phrase, he's talking about hell.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no doubt.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: And we don't like to hear this, but man, the Jesus is not a way, he's not part of the way, he is the only way.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: And if you put on your good deeds or you put on your works, you put on self-righteousness, you put on religion, yes, you know, this is not God threatening us.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: This is God saying, Hey, I'm offering you a free way in that came at the cost of my son Jesus.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: He purchased the outfit, he made available the clothes, all you have to do is put them on.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: And if not, the option is if you can't get in the presence of God, you're gonna be you're gonna be removed from the presence of God, which that's what hell is.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: What makes hell so horrible is we're absent from the source of life and joy and peace and everything that God is.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: And so the way that Jesus ends that, I think should just open our eyes, like, hey, this is not really an option.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: You know, it's not like you know, when you become a certain age, you get to wear whatever you want, you know, you get to pick your options.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: But Jesus saying there's there's only one outfit.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's right.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: It's a one size fits all fits all.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: One size fits all, yeah.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Which I like.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: But uh, you know, I I think just understanding the seriousness of how Jesus ends that conversation to say, hey, if you've not put on Christ and you have on anything else, you need to put on the Lord Jesus.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: I think this is just so different because a lot of us, again, we like expressing ourselves.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: You know, there's there's some people that dress more modestly, there's people that dress more conservatively.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Um, there's people that, you know, are really boisterous and loud, and you've got people like us that, hey, black is slimming, you know, we're throwing it on.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think that reminder that there's only one thing that you can wear that's gonna be acceptable.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: Again, you know, this conversation from Genesis chapter three, the first time there's clothing taking place uh where God clothed clothes mankind.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: There's a picture in the very last chapter in Revelation chapter 22 where it's saying that that the groom is coming, but the bride that's gonna be accepted is the one whose clothes are washed.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: So it's not like this was early on, or there's just some, you know, again, like as you said before, quippy statements, there's not just these like funny parallels.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Like, no, God is coming back.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Jesus is coming back for a pure bride, and it's only those that have have been washed.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: So it's it's too late.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know about you, but whenever I get a stain on something, like there's a timeline for the oxyclean to get onto the shirt.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: If you're waiting to start cleaning up, it's too late.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: You know, I love it that uh, you know, the Bible says, though your sins be like scarlet, they'll be as white as snow.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Like, man, that God has the ability, no matter how deep the stain of your sin is.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Um you know, you think, man, that's you know, I had an abortion or I cheated on my spouse, or whatever, whatever thing we do, man, as as human beings, we're we're we're fallible, we we miss the mark, and we're rebellious against our creator.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: And sometimes the enemy wants to say, your stain has been set, like it's it's set in.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: And I just want you to know, man, the the power of the blood of Jesus can take out any stain.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: And um, that is what it means to put on the Lord Jesus is to cover our filthy rags with his righteousness.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: And man, it's just uh it's humbling.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: But again, man, such a powerful conversation.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: It's so simple.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: We are we're all clothing people, man.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: We all are identified by the clothing we wear, man.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Here God's like, he's bringing it home.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Um, so the other conversation we had was this idea of dressing for success.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Yep, yeah.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: And, you know, man, I put on the spiritual armor, which is you know, one of those conversations, man, you cut stuff out in Sunday school and it's easy to make it like it's almost a joke, but man, yeah.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: He's saying you need to understand you're in a real spiritual fight.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: And if you go into the fight not dressed for the fight, you're gonna lose.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: You may not lose your salvation, but you're gonna lose the battle you're in, which could be the battle for your family, could be the battle for your peace, could be the battle for your kids.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: And man, dressing for success.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Again, it's a catchy phrase, but it means something.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: The uh, you know, a couple weeks ago, you shared for real, uh, one of the most timely, powerful um staff meeting talks we've had in a long time, just about David.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, just that picture of him going into battle.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: It's one that we're all familiar with.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Again, it can almost be a Sunday school, you know, Bible story, but its relevance in our lives is it's brought all the way back to spiritual armor.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: You know, David, he had an opportunity to go face off a one-on-one monoimano battle for the captivity of people.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Either we're we're gonna enslave y'all and we're gonna take back what the enemy's stolen, or we're gonna be enslaved ourselves.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: And he went to go fight.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: And what was he offered?
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: He was offered Saul's armor.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but he said there's even there might be an even greater armor than the king's armor.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: It's the king of kings armor that he he he allows me to walk in.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: I'm not I'm walking my own anointing.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: That's the covering I have.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I have God's provision in my past that I'm relying on.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I'm not, I'm not looking to a king's provision.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: I'm not looking to the strength that we see with our natural eyes.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: It makes sense for us to have chain mail and you know, big old armor, even if it don't fit.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: But David knew I'm not going to be successful unless I trust the Lord.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: And so there's a lot of people out there that you need to move from just being covered with the blood to cover with the oil.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: You're covered with the oil of uh of uh anointing from the Lord.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: And I think a lot of us, we we think that success is just getting okay.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: And don't get me wrong, it is the initial step.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Success starts in the kingdom whenever you submit your life to Christ, you receive the blood of Christ.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: But um, I know that your heart is you want to see people mobilized, you want them succeeding in battles.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: And um, yeah, I don't know if you just want to share it.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Well, we say it we say it here at Faith Church that salvation is it's um it's not a step, it's a journey.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Like it's it's not like you're there, like you've arrived.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: That's just the first step in a lifelong journey of constant consecration, sanctification, figuring out your call.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: And so good, yeah, man.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: David, um, what I love what you pointed out, and I forgot I mentioned this again.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: David wasn't just fighting for his own victory.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: When he walked onto that battlefield, every single man, woman, and child of the nation of Israel, their future hinged on his success or defeat.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: And I just don't think, man, we really understand as people generally, but especially as dads, as fathers, um, as people in the workplace, man, you're fighting for the freedom of your coworkers.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Because if, man, if we're willing to really walk out the gospel, we're gonna see them get to celebrate or walk in the victory that we're walking in.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: And man, we just go along and we don't we don't take off the dirty deeds.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Um, man, we're we're not gonna be the light we're called to be.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: And man, people are gonna remain enslaved to a spiritual enemy.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: So, man, the battle's bigger than ourselves.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Yes, sir.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: So don't just dress for your success, dress for the success of your household, of your community, of our culture.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, man, David did it.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: We need to get back, man, to dressing for people more than just ourselves.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: And we're on the extra mile podcast.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: And so I think, you know, uh this might be one of the last things we have time to share about.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: But um, I was just thinking about this uh because you've referenced this story a couple of times.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: But again, you can just read through stories and you can go quick, but you always encourage everybody to slow down, you know, really sense the gravity and and the depth of mean scripture.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: You said like every single word is there on purpose.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Every name, that's right, every detail is there for a reason.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: And I think back about the call of Elisha.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: He didn't just get like a call, you know, that's what the heading is in my Bible, but he doesn't just receive a call.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Elijah doesn't even go up and say anything to him.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: What does he do?
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: He walks out in the field, he takes his cloak off, that's right, and he can feel the anointing, he can feel the call in that moment.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: And he just says this think about what I've done to you.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: You know, it's that weight, you know.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: I talk to our students about this all the time.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Like whenever God has anointed you, he he he steps you into a season.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: There might be people listening to this podcast that you feel that weight, but what is your your response going to be?
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Are you just gonna go home?
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: Or are you gonna go and say, hey, I'm I'm forsaking all this stuff where I've been at?
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: I feel the weight, right?
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I believe believe uh Elijah's cloak, sweaty and marred up with leather and hair and all the things that it would have been this picture of weight.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, I wonder if we are we are opening up ourselves to that weight every single day, to the call that we have.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: The call to be a stay-at-home mom, to be a CEO, to be a business leader, yeah, be a parent, teacher, coach, whatever it might be that God has you positioned in right now.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Are you feeling the weight of that?
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: You know, Loger said, think about what I've done.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: I uh man, I I would close with just with just one one uh little side note that I heard that there's a um there's a clothing brand, and to work at their store, you have to wear their clothes.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: And the reason they do that in the manual, they say it's because it's they're guarding their brand.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: And I thought, well, what does that mean?
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: And here I've missed some further reading.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: And the goal is they figure if you're wearing, if you're trying to sell brand X, but you're wearing at work brand Y, like what are you really selling?
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: And um, what they found was when they started making sure that their people on the floor were wearing the clothes that were on the dummies on the mannequins, like clothing sales went up.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Because I don't care what it looks like on a mannequin.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: I want to see what does it look like in real life.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: And so good, you know, I started thinking about that and I thought churches are man, a lot of churches are mannequin churches.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: We stand up and talk about what it looks like and you know, show off what it looks and read about what it looks like, but then we leave and we're wearing the other brand.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: And the reason we're not winning our brothers and sisters of Christ, the reason we're not impacting our community is because we're talking about one clothing brand and we're wearing a different one.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: And um, we got to guard the brand.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: We got to guard the brand, you know, of the kingdom, man.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: There's there's a dress code for the kingdom of God, and it starts with dressing ourselves in Christ, being clothed in his righteousness.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: And then it goes with, man, taking off no longer clothes that fit our old lifestyle, dress for success for spiritual battles, and man, guard guard the brand.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: So good.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: Are you guarding the brand?
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: And so great challenge.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Just would encourage you, man.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Whatever clothes you're wearing today, let it be a reminder.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Maybe tomorrow morning when you wake up and you're ironing your clothes or you're getting something ready to wear to school or to work, to maybe give some consideration about your spiritual clothing.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: Are you covered in Christ?
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Are you taking off the old clothes that no longer belong?
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: And are you dressed for success?
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: So good, Pastor.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Well, Pastor Ty, thanks for joining us one more time for the extra mile.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: We'll see you guys next week.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: God bless you guys, man.
